This little gem is in the heart of downtown Salem. I was referred here by a friend and I was very happy with what I found. Everything is handmade with love. I know it sound lame but it's so true. It's not a big place but the kitchen is, you can see everything they use to make the wonderful food. I ordered a Club on a croissant. It's a huge sandwich, not a little croissant. Large croissant filled with ham, turkey, bacon, Swiss & cheddar cheeses. Also has lettuce, tomato along with a house sauce with a pickle spear on the side. I didn't try the house sauce. You can watch as they make you sandwich right in front of you. The menu is full of homemade goodies. I also enjoyed Baked from scratch in-house big cookie with M&M's. Let me tell you what this huge cookie. I have already been back, I'm also looking forward to trying a breakfast sandwich.

Had a decent breakfast sandwich here the other day, so I came in for soup today. Ordered the chicken n dumplings. However there weren't any pieces of chicken or dumpling. When I called to give them this feedback, they said I should ask for a sample first next time to avoid any confusion. Also to wait for lunch time? Then they explained that the pieces are tiny and the name is likely misleading. That was pretty much the end of the conversation. I'm not returning here. This kind of practice is what hurts business long term. I'm suggesting to coworkers and my college students to go elsewhere.

This is simply the worst croissant I have ever had! Old, dry and heavy :-(....I can't believe they even use this in their name if they can't bake a decent croissant. Go to another bakery in the area, there are plenty of them.

Came here on a thursday late afternoon. none of the restaurants surrounding this place seem to be open until 5-5:30.young gal at the cashier seemed to be in slow motion and seemed very sleepy or in her own world.took quite some time to spoon out 2 small containers of pasta salad.hadn't been here since summer 2011 and in my opinion I wouldn't really care to come back based on service and food from past and present visits.

Wanted four plain croissants. They are a croissant company that won't sell plain croissants. Are their croissants really so bad they won't risk letting customers eat them plain?!!

I have had multiple great experiences here. It is a superb place for lunch, they are quick efficient and make one heck of a sandwich. I was impressed with their service when I ordered food for an event, which I picked up near closing time, and all of the sudden realized more guests were expected. I called croissant and co in a hurry and luckily was met with kind and understanding staff. Even though I called 10 minutes to close they quickly whipped up a few more sandwiches with smiles on their faces. This is a great locally owned business that is great for a quick lunch if you live/work in salem or are just passing through.

I remember first coming to The Croissant and Co. as a teenager when my father had an office upstairs in an adjacent building. After school I'd walk over and stop in. After grabbing my cream cheese Danish and two coffees, one for me and one for my father, I'd spend the afternoon doing homework. These were good memories for me. Over the next decade and a half I've steadily come back less and less. Mostly due to moving out of state for extended periods, not living local when I did return to Oregon, and a variety of other factors. When I have been able to though, I still get the same great quality I remember. The shop is still small and does not have a lot of seating, the counters and prep areas taking up the majority of the square footage. Lunch time is still a mad rush to get your order in and bagged before you have to run back to work. Hot soups, pastries, Danishes, cookies, and all sorts of other goodies are still made fresh daily right in the shop. Staff smile and yell back and forth at each other getting orders right, working together in a seamless flow. About a month ago I was walking around downtown and decided that it was still early enough to chance in and hope that a pastry or two remained to be eaten. If you get there too late in the afternoon you risk a distinct lack of sweets, as they will have all been bought or eaten. I was not disappointed, as I walked away with a raspberry and cream cheese Danish. That evening I enjoyed my Danish and I look forward to the next random event that has me enjoying another of the Croissant and Co.'s delicacies.

I was in Salem for work and had an hour and a half lunch most days. Decided to try this little place out for lunch. It was good enough to go back a second time. Its really small joint, so you will be lucky to get a seat at lunch time. I ordered sandwich on Croissant and it was pretty good. Wished I would have stopped by for breakfast, as the bagels looked great. They had a nice little pastry window. Also a plus.. good looking, friendly female staff.

Inside, the place has some room to walk (yet not totally cavernous), with a few tables for patrons to sit at. A specials board is placed outside, with two smaller notices inside. I came in and ordered around 7:45 a.m. I got to see the 8 a.m. rush, with people working downtown stopping in for their morning coffee and snack. Since part of the place's name says "croissant," I went with the breakfast sandwich on a croissant ($6.50), adding ham and pepperjack cheese with a scrambled egg. There is also a cheaper bagel option (by about a couple bucks), if one prefers that over a croissant. The croissant was cool to the touch, but it retained a bit of flakiness, so I'd say it was prepared earlier that morning -- and done very well. It merely looked like a couple slices of regular packaged cold-cut deli ham, but the freshly cooked egg and gooey melted cheese left me with mostly positive memories. Their coffee tastes standard, with no real gourmet essence to write home about. I failed to ask about it, but I also thought it was on the watery side. Twelve ounces of that stuff is $1.25, OK by me. They have espresso options that I'd probably try next time. Being a self-confessed cinnaholic, I was very tempted to buy one of their substantial cinnamon rolls ($2.50), but when I saw some samples on the counter, I just went with one of those pieces this time. Very good and still fairly soft, but again, it had been probably been sitting out for a little while. The glaze or icing on the top had hardened into a sugary shell. Overall, balancing the price and the size of the roll, I'd say it's worth getting. Their large chocolate chip cookie ($2) measures about five and a half inches in diameter. It unfortunately broke in half on the walk home, but was just awesome. Soft and chewy, a comfort snack at its finest. Very high quality. A darn good deal here. Seeing all those chocolate chips peek through the surface made me a giddy panda! I'd seriously go back just for more cookies. Panda cookie monster! This was an experience with more highs than lows. Croissant & Co. is a very good option if you're in the area, but it's just not the first place I'd head to for breakfast or a snack. Probably one of those times where it was really just an OK experience, but that cookie pulled a Superman to save the day.

The croissant I ordered was wonderful, after they made it a second time cause they accidentally gave it to someone else. It's a bit pricey for just a sandwich, but tasted good. They did microwave the bacon for the sandwich which I found to be definitely not as good as fresh.

I had a meeting here but the person didn't show, so I decided to make the most of the situation with their croissant club sandwich. Pretty good, but not necessarily anything spectacular. What did look great was the daily special, scalloped potatoes and sausage with a side salad. I should've gone for that but I was lured in by the croissant. An extra star for the platter of pastry scraps/samples by the register--fantastic.

Food is reasonably prices for its quality. Mostly, I appreciate the catering they've been able to provide for a few events at the nearby College--they have a good variety of meals that are cheap and tasty. The place itself is small and hints of being a French cafe (probably due to the lace window-dressings).

I have been here a handful of times. The food is okay. They do not make anything I can't make myself. I would say the main problem is the staff. They are rude and always "too busy" even if you are the only one there. They got two stars just for the cinnamon roll. Very tasty.

When I worked next to Croissant I would visit them just about every day for their DELICIOUS bagels and pastries. I kid you not, these are the best bagels in Salem, hands-down. They are made fresh every day. They also have great blueberry coffeecake, cinnamon rolls, croissants, and various other pastries. I would also often go for lunch (they are not open for dinner). They have a variety of pasta salads, which are pretty tasty. They make excellent garden salads and their sandwiches are typical cafe-style. There is a different soup selection every day. They also offer strawberry lemonaid, which was my personal favorite. They offer coffee and espresso drinks, but as much as I love them, the coffee was not my favorite. Both indoor/outdoor seating and they always have a lovely sample tray at the register. Staff is very friendly and the owner is a great lady. You can also find them at the Salem Saturday Market. A hidden little downtown gem, located next to the Elsinore Theater on the corner of High and Ferry streets. Enjoy!
