Worst Chipotle I've been to. Steak was soggy and sitting in liquid an inch high. Of the 6 employees working not one had a smile. When asking for more lettuce I was met with another frown, followed by the young girl begrudgingly accepting my request. As if her job depends on the profitability of lettuce. The highlight of my trip would be that I got a double steak bowl for the price of regular steak. The employee who put the lid on the bowl evidently couldn't tell that there was not two scoops of steak...and I wasn't about to correct her after my experience there.

I love chipotle- like sterotypical white girl - "chipotle is my life" love. That being said, this is one of the worst chipotles I have ever been to. The food is always hit and miss, the service always sucks. Either everyone in the store has just had Botox each time I go or not smiling is actually a required attribute at this location. To top it all off they have one of the worst parking lots. Super small with narrow spaces that soccer moms try to cram their Denali's in. Twice I have had my car scraped down the side in this parking lot and the other person has driven off. They are opening another location at Keizer station and I'm hoping its run by different people but, I'm not holding my breath. You gotta go to Portland or at least as far as lake Oswego for decent chipotle and a service experience that doesn't feel like a prison cafeteria line.

When: Friday June 13th, around 7:00 pm Being from Hawaii, this was our first visit ever to a Chipotle Mexican Grill. The place was packed, which gave us time to decide on what to order. After going through the "Subway" like line and ordering, our order was prepared rather quickly. After heading back to our hotel room to eat, the Grilled Chicken Salad and Tacos was very good....We definitelly will be back...

Best food anywhere!!!!! Love that it's non gmo and all natural. So yummy and great prices. The kids meals are wonderful and my kids love the variety. The beans are spicy though!!

One day I was flying around in my jet pack when all of a sudden my stomach needed food. I lowered myself upon a great Mexican food place. Sure the line was long, but that's what I get for going on a Sunday after church. The parking lot is pretty small but that's not really their problem, people need to suck it up, sorry they're making you walk an extra 50 ft. You had to park on the street? Life must be hard. First world problems. Rant over. The food was amazing. The servers were very professional and even put on new gloves for a gluten free girl. Was awesome. I left very satisfied. The price is a tad high but honestly, it's worth it. I love this place. I left with a smile on my face as I put on my jetpack and flew out of there. Watchng all the people walk to there now 50 whole feet away parked nice cars. # lifestoughbutfoodsgreat Until next time friends.

Tried Chipotle for the first time. Actually annoyed enough to type this in the restaurant. Meh burrito. The guac is decent, which saved them a star but thr chips are far too salty. This is not an $11 meal (burrito, chips and guacamole, small soda). I won't be back. Not to mention I came at 2:00 on a Monday and couldn't find a parking spot, yet the restaurant was not at all busy. If I'm near Lancaster Mall and want decent fast food Mexican, I'll stick with Baja Fresh. If I want to build a burrito, I'll go to Taco Del Mar.

Good stuff I recommend a a steak burrito with black beans and extra cheeses its good stuff. I have been to this location several times and every time the staff always welcomes me at the door its very nice.

  • Robert D.

Agree with everything above. It's a more expensive, less flavorful, and far less varied version of Qdoba (which, unfortunately, we don't have in Salem).

Fresh as it gets food, the guacamole is amazing, and the burritos would fill an elephant! Come here for some great mexican style food.

I can't say anything unique...love their food. Criticism: why do they not have a changing table in the restroom?

  • Nancy N.

Very similar layout as Taco Del Mar... minus the surfer theme. A subway for burritos that also offers "bowls" and "tacos" that you build. Their art is cool. Seating appears uncomfortable and more like artwork, however it was deceiving, pretty comfy afterall. Chicken was a bit over cooked... rice had a great taste as well as the black beans and the guacamole (which is added as an extra with a $1.75 additional charge). Outdoors was pretty with nice landscaping and a pretty waterfall. Parking was easy with plenty of access and right across the street from Lancaster Mall.

Great food, fast friendly service. Fresh tasting. Prices are great for the amount of food you get, which is always more than I can eat.

First let me say that we really like Chipolte. This was our first time eating from the location in Salem. Absolutely terrible. The chicken in my burrito was dry and blah and everything else in there was equally unseasoned and gross. The burrito itself was incredibly sloppy, as it was overstuffed and the worst rolled burrito I've ever had. Seriously, there was SO much extra tortilla on one side of the burrito and not enough on the other side. Not only was it bland in flavor, I could not eat it without having chunks of all the nasty fillings falling all over the table. I have had some unpleasant burritos but I've never had a burrito that was not folded properly--just made this disgusting thing even worse. My fiance got the burrito bowl and it was equally awful. I don't know how this place is still open. Do yourself a favor and go to one of the many other mexican places in the area for a better burrito that is at least properly seasoned and rolled.

You'd better be desperate to eat here but having said that it's not horrible. Just not memorable vegetarian burritos.

  • Eric E.

I really HATE the parking lot here. It's always full and overflowing so you have to park on the street. They designed it with a way too small of a parking lot. The service has always been fine, but nothing special. The food is pretty good though. I just prefer Baja Fresh across the street which doesn't have the parking issue and is just as good if not better imo.

amazingly bad. been 3 times now, all due to others i know loving this place. being a vegetarian, i'm stuck with quesadillas or burritos. first time i got a burrito, it was absolutely horrid. too much rice! next two times i stuck to their cheese quesadillas. their OK but way overpriced. my hubby also despises this place beyond imagine. this location is always busy and so you have to wait on top of it, to get crappy food. oh my!

Chipotle is amazing. Let's not kid ourselves. That said, is there one thing that you should expect to get at Chipotle Restaurant? Beans? Sure. Tortillas? Of course. Chipotle Sauce? Without question. I ordered and received my burrito, filled my beverage cup, and sought that magical sauce. Guess what? "sorry we are out of chipotle". Huh? I need the chipotle. I need it so bad. Love your spot Chipotle and get your act together. There is no reason I can possibly think of that you'd be out of chipotle. Order 1000s of bottles. It doesn't go bad. Store it. Awesome burrito. Awesomer with chipotle. It's your namesake. Straighten up.

This has become our go to place for a quick gluten-free meal. The employees a very accommodating and don't make me feel like I am a bother. They go out of their way to make sure I have food safe from cross contamination. Thank you!

Why do I experience so much self loathing after eating here?? Because its so damned expensive for what it is, and their service is awful ... you'd get more personality from a line of robots. And has anyone else noticed that they barely put ANY meat in your bowl?! They craftily cover up this fact by dumping tons of rice, beans, and other crap in there, making it look like you're getting a ton of choices and a bunch of good stuff, sneaky bastards.

    (2)
  • G'Anna D.

Burrito ok but not as good as across the street.

    (3)
  • Rica H.

Food tasted good, it was fresh, but honestly these were the most poorly-rolled burritos I've ever encountered. More like tortillas loosely gathered around the filling. Have forks and napkins ready.

I tried the kool aid and I didn't like it. First off, before I get to the food, ordering it was a pain in the arse. My first experience was to get myself and 2 co-workers lunch. Now, I may have had a couple of picky orders, and not knowing how to order there was intimidating. It's like a nascar pit station. The problem is, what if you are clueless how to order? I felt the angry glare and hot breath of the 75 people dying to get their fix from behind me. God forbid I forgot to order chips at the designated "chip time"... Or forgot to tell them I wanted a large soft drink. Chipotle people need to simmer down. Employees and diners. Now the food. Meh, sss'ok. I don't see why people act so manic about it. I would actually prefer Baja Fresh if I am going to drive on to SlamCaster. I don't get the hype. I agree with Chuck B, I would much rather go to La Hacienda Real and have some Jalisco style food. YUMMERS.

  • Sophie B.

This has been one of my favorite places for Mexican food, however I am pretty sure they are using frozen avocado or a mix of frozen and fresh for their guac. I would love to be wrong but every time I eat guacamole that had been frozen, I get bad tummy grumbles and pain. Can eat avocado and guac all day long when fresh. Last three times I have gone, I have got the dreaded tummy problems. Twice I have asked and they have told me its fresh. I guess I should be specific and say, " did you cut and seed the avocado yourself, today?" I will probably go again, just not the vegetarian bowl... Chips are the bomb!

    (4)
  • Jordan S.

Really don't understand the hype about this place, just another fast food chain with mediocre tasting food with employees that just hate being there with a burning passion, and both times I've been there my food has been cold, will not be returning.

    (2)
  • Eric S.

I have loved Chipotle, I wrote to them pleading to them to bring a restaurant to Salem, I unfortunately don't get to eat there very often. I think the menu is lacking in choices (if you don't like guac or tomatoes, your choices are VERY limited!) but the one thing that is making me NOT go back, is I've gotten sick TWICE (vomiting) after two subsequent visits. I won't go back to this one for a LONG time!

    (1)
  • Bill B.

Typical Chipotle fare (which I like) but they need to get the parking situation squared away. They're losing business especially since the Baja Fresh across the street (where I'm writing this review) has ample parking.

  • Josh A.

My favorite place to get a delicious steak burrito. Lately it seems the portions are ant size when certain people are working some of the girls try to be scientific about their portions and give not enough to taste. it is very inconsistent, I don't go to Chipotle to get an ants portion of food. Chipotle needs to learn that people don't go to their restaurant to have people give them small portions. If I wanted small portions i would say so, the amount of money is the same no matter who serves the food, the past months when certain individuals are working it feels like your getting ripped off.

The WORST Chipotle ever, and I've eaten at a LOT of Chipotles! There was something frozen - was it the pico de gallo? The guac? It threw off the entire bowl and just made it gross. C'mon peeps - you can do better than that!! So much for a handy road trip stop between Portland and Eugene.

    (1)
  • Nicole M.

I typically love Chipotle. Their ingredients are fresh and the meat is flavored wonderfully. Generally a quick lunch when they keep the line moving. This location however, ran out of pico de gallo one day recently and didn't tell their patrons until we were already half-way through ordering. How do you run out of pico at a Mexican Grill?... and not mention it to anyone!?!

Horrible horrible customer service.. I was so excited to try this restaurant after I saw that they were a healthier place near my work.. And I was sorely disappointed.. I'm a Barista and I know what good customer service looks like..and they do not have it.. I told them I'd never been here before so wanted to know more about my burrito options and was rudely rushed along and snapped at instead. I've never reviewed a place or thought about complaining.. But seriously dude after a long day at work getting treated like that by a fellow service worker just sucks... All I can say is the food is really not worth the horrible service.. And Marcos tacos across the street in the mall are WAY better and they are all so nice! Super bummed!

  • Janet G.

Great food. The burritos are HUGE! All the ingredients taste fresh. Plus they sell beer, including a few local varieties. My only complaint is that the line was a bit long. But once you made it up to order the staff was quick and polite. This company is moving towards non-GMO and organic ingredients, which I support. I guess the line was so long because the food was so good! Worth the wait. I will take my family there again for lunch.

    (4)
  • Matt R.

I'm surprised that 1) this is rated so low 2) that a review hasn't been completed in a while. I cruised through the line for a takeout meal. In and out in about 8 minutes, even with a line which is always nice with kids at home. It was like a well oiled machine. The burritos were huge and tasted very good. Nothing truly bad to report. I completely understand its a glorified fast food restaurant, but in certain situations, I don't mind that. As far as one detractor, I was placing three separate orders. The staff was takin my desires in shifts - one doing wrap&rice, one doing meat&salsa, and one doing veggies&checkout. They were definitely not in sync and at one point I had each of the three asking me what I wanted on each of my three orders- at literally the same time! Brain explosion! Someone wait for me finish, jeez! Anyways, I foun the food to be good and the service friendly enough but not exactly patient. It's a Chipotle! Go in with that frame of mind and you should be OK.

Chipotle is an outstanding chain, and this location is great. I love their carnita and barbacoa burritos, and their guacamole is the best I have had anywhere.

I LOVE Chipotle!! First off it makes me happy to know that not only do they use organic foods, but they try to use local sources as much as possible. The food is just amazing, and they also give you a good size portion. They offer burritos, burrito bowls, salad, tacos (both soft and hard), and yummy chips and salsa. I have eaten at Baja Fresh and can't really even compare the two, they are just totally different. The first time I ate Baja Fresh I loved it, but the two times I went recently the portions were much smaller, prices higher, and slow service, but to each his own. They offer choice of cilantro-lime rice or brown rice, pinto or vegetarian black beans, meat (braised carnitas or barbacoa, adobo-marinated and grilled chicken or steak) or guacamole, lettuce, salsa and cheese or sour cream. It is just yummy goodness! I have eaten here for years and will continue to eat here. The only thing that stinks about Chipotle is it is loud (weird, loud music), but you can sit outside, and their parking lots nototriously suck, but even those things would not prevent me from eating here : )

This location was the same as all the other locations I've been to. The girls working were very nice, and let me sample some before deciding if I wanted it in my burrito. Either you love chipotle, or you don't. It's fast food that won't kill you, and I appreciate that they use nicer raised meats, and some local ingredients.

So, we have dined at Chipotle in the past (not this location) and always enjoyed the food.. last night we stopped in for a bite and we discovered that the portions are now about 60% of what they used to be. Don't get me wrong, the portions that I recall from our more frequent visits in years past were huge - however that's part of the gig in my opinion. Not only have the portions shrunk wildly but the construction of the burrito was ridiculous, I could've (and have) done better in a drunken stooper - the only cheese to be found was at the bottom of the burrito and the chicken was absent from the first half dozen bites. I say pass on this location and perhaps the chain in general.

I don't know about everyone else, but I grew out of cafeteria style dining establishments well before highschool. My man and I stopped in here for lunch and found that the menu was pretty simple: pick your meat. Then decide if you want that in the form of a taco, a burrito, a tostada, or fajitas. Uh... burrito please. Then they cram it with 9 pounds of rice (your choice of white or mexican) so you have to tell them to hold back. And then they proceed to put whatever they want in it, and stop only to ask if you want salsa. If you ask for guacamole, that'll be .75 extra. Fine. Then you sit down to eat the most unflavorful burrito of your life. All I tasted was rice, and not good rice at that. It was like wet stew in a giant tortilla as well. What gives Chipotle? And is it ChipoLte, or ChipotLe? Don't eat here.

I don't go to Chipotle Mexican Grill very often but when I do, I really look forward to it. The food is really quite tasty. Granted, it is still fast food so it's not going to be the healthiest choice (even if you choose a vegetarian route) but they do provide a nutritional menu online. If you are worried about your diet, take a glace at that before you go. It'll also save you time when you order because you'll already have an idea of what you want. How it goes is you walk in and order "cafeteria style." They have all their food in trays and you can see what you are selecting to put in your tortillas, tacos or burritos. Then you can choose to dine-in or take-out and pay. I will say the prices are a bit high for a fast food restaurant but the quality of the food and nice staff make up for this. My only complaint is when I finally get up there to order, it's too loud. I don't have the best hearing to begin with but the mix of the noise from various fans and machines running is almost too much and I find myself asking "What?" every time they ask me a question. I don't know if anyone else has this problem but I thought it was worth mentioning. Of course, I'm not going to let this small thing stop me from eating here. It all comes down to the fact that I really like the food and no matter how many times they have to repeat themselves for me, they have been patient and very nice to me.

Fast food that's not your typical fast food. Whenever I'm in an unfamiliar area with very limited healthy food choices, I always try to look for a Chipotle as a second choice. I haven't had typical fast food in over 10 years due to the trans fats, MSG, high carb and sugar content, etc. and the fact that its not real food. Chipotle has none of that. Their meats are hormone and antibiotic free, no MSG, and there are some viable (non soy) vegetarian alternatives. I personally like the salads. The food is as good as it looks on their website and you wont break the bank.

The only reason I decided to come to Chipotle tonight was that Baja Fresh was only accepting cash due to their network being down. I wish I had gone to the bank and returned. I only have been to a Chipotle once (Monterey, CA) in 2007 and had memories that it was ok. Tonight I had the steak burrito, basically pre-cooked bits of steak and a subway style way of adding a few options. The burrito itself was not consistent at all and was very wet. For this type of meal, Baja Fresh hands down makes a better burrito, plus they don't charge you extreme for some avocado and you don't have to pay to get some chips. I had the hot salsa, it had heat, but lacked in flavor. . . kind of watered down. Maybe I'm picky but I really don't understand the hype of this chain and why the company trades so ridiculously high on the stock market for the type of boring, overrated meal / preparation style you get here. Hasn't anyone sitting in that place had better to see the difference?

U know for fast food, pretty good stuff. Located on the BUSIEST street in all of Salem it seems, but was close to the kids soccer game and provided a air conditioned rest spot on a 100 degree day.

Let me start by saying I love Chipotle. But as a frequent Chipotle eater, I know there are some things that come with the territory. For example, the chicken gets overcooked (burnt) quite often. But not at this location. As many times as I have frequented it, the food has always been great. Great carnitas (when available). Great steak. Great chicken. I would love to award five stars on consistency alone (and I haven't even mentioned that the service is quite good, too), but the parking is a nightmare. If you drive a clown car or a mini, please ignore this; you'll be fine. Anything larger than a Nissan Leaf, though, and you'll swear whoever designed the parking lot has a part-time job as an auto insurance adjuster. Parking in the back is okay, but try along the street next to KFC. Easy in, easy out.

  • Michael G.

Could there be a Chipotle with worse parking? Maybe the Lloyd Center location in Portland but this one is right there at the top of the list. There are about 25 total spots front and back and good luck if you have anything bigger than a Prius, which appears to be the official car of Chipotle. I ordered my usual, with white rice only, chicken, and cheese with some lettuce on top. It comes in at a very nice 460 calories. A great filling lunch for very few calories. The chicken was a bit over cooked this time and pretty hard. The rice was perfect with just the right amount of cilantro in it. Awesome tasting, but grab the free toothpicks and use the mirror in your car before going back to work. They get you thru the line pretty quickly. Today was good, the line was all the way to the end of the half wall, but moved quickly. Every time I am here there are service men and women dining. Maybe because it is Salem, the state capitol. The tables seem to be cleaned regularly, and the outside was open today.

I always try to find chipotle whatever I am when I'm looking for fast food Mexican this is my new Taco Bell, it cost a little tiny bit more but it is so fresh and healthy that's good for you and this location is really nice because of the seating either indoor or outdoor by the little waterfall that is always the subject of much attention by any kid who's nearby in fact the last time I was there about a month ago I saw a family who had 10 kids and everyone of them was around that waterfall Lol. A pretty entertaining lunch indeed!

Staff was unbelievably rude. The girl who made my food had the worst case of stank-face I've seen in a while. And the cashier was even worse. Never again. I'll drive further just to avoid this place.

Food was just ok. Steak was rubber. Dining area was filthy. Floor had food on it throughout. As many dirty tables as clean tables.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
