The menu is extensive and if I was reviewing from one time it would be a two star at best. I had the rib eye steak the first time and it was awful. Breakfast, however, is a different animal entirely. They do a great job with the breakfast menu and since it is next to a truck stop, we will be back again. Very clean and pleasing interior.

"best pie in Oregon says the sign".....But I can't really rate on that since I didn't try any. I was in the area for the Tractor Show @ the Antique Powerland (good ol' Whitey dad needed his tractor fix). So here we are at the Chalet...which appears to be a log cabin on the outside but plastered with drywall on the inside...kinda a bummer for those looking for a authentic lodge feel but were here for the food not the decor right? Well decor aside the Restaurant is fairly new & clean. My review is purely based on my BISCUITS AND GRAVY breakfast which was pretty delicious and came with two juicy/crispy sausage links, YUM! I usually don't eat much dinner/American breakfast food but when I do I love places like this that serve it up fresh. I would definitely recommend this as a roadside stop over the numerous fast-food joints along 1-5.

The Chalet is right next to the Pilot truck stop right near exit 263 on I-5 in between Salem and Woodburn Oregon. As I truck driver, I have friends and family who often mention popular myth that "Truck stops sure have pretty good food, huh?" That might have been true once, but today, most truck stops either offer franchise fast food, or the equivalent of Denny's with a buffet. Thank God for the Chalet. Great menu, with real ingredients. No frozen fish-sticks or boneless buffalo wings here. I had the mushroom and feta omelette which was great, and the marion berry jam served with my toast was outstanding. I also had a slice of the strawberry rhubarb pie, which made my daycomplete. I highly recommend this place if you're on the road, and need to treat yourself!

If there was a strong dislike button this would be pushed now. After leaving Portland my boyfriend and I decided to stop for a quick bite. I ordered a salad with soup, a steak and my boy ordered a burger, when our food came the burger was good, but the steak was less than a 1/4 inch thick, I asked for medium and got a well done, tough, horrible steak. I did not eat but one bite. When I told my waitress that my food was over cooked and terrible she told me that "Jose" was the only one who could fix it. So I waited for Jose. he came over picked up my steak with his fingers, cut off a corner and said, look that is medium, yes it is, but I ordered a whole steak that was medium, not 1 square inch medium and the rest overcooked. He proceeded to tell me that he would take $6 off my meal, I said that was not enough. I was not going to pay for something that was not edible. As I went to leave I told the waitress who was very nice, I am sorry and I am not going to pay for that. I paid for the rest of the bill and left. When i left back to Salem, we pulled onto the side of the road to switch driver, and as I exited my vehicle, i hear Jose screaming obscenities at me from the front of the Chalet, and this is supposed to be the manager? Horrible and the fact that he touched my steak with his fingers? Gross. I will never return and plan on telling everyone that I know to stay away, the management is horrible and Jose should be out of a job. That is no way to treat good paying customers. The service was great but the food, you could get a better steak at MC Donald's. Over priced, over cooked terrible management. If I could take this a step further I sure would. .I strongly suggest that you stay away as Jose is still working there and their philosophy is the customer is always WRONG and Jose is always right. If that is how you wish to spend your $ that is fine, but I strongly suggest that you do not!

Been here twice. Once for dinner and another time for breakfast. I say just go for breakfast. The service was good. The food is a bit better than Denny's.

I was Northbound on I-5 when my "hunger alarm" reminded me I'd overlooked breakfast and was about to skip lunch - never a good idea - so I eased off the Interstate at Exit 263 and revisited The Chalet Restaurant. I was promptly seated and greeted and, as in the past, my lunch was quickly prepared and served; I enjoyed every bite. My turkey sandwich and vegetable soup was tasty and reasonably priced. The coffee was off the mark; more expensive than Starbucks and not a fraction as flavorful, but that's a minor criticism. The apple pie was delicious! With thanks to server, Michelle, for her professionalism. Access to northbound I-5 (a quarter-mile to the east) was uncomplicated, and I pressed on.

Nice clean restaurant, and extremely fast and friendly service account for the two stars that I gave. Unfortunately, those don't help much if the food sucks. Probably the worst Denver omelette I've had in a long time. Not sure if the used frozen veggies or what the problem was, but there was a definite "off" flavor, like maybe they had soaked all night in a wet dishrag. Their world famous pancakes were mediocre as well. I'd be willing to try again in case it was just an off day, but not a good first impression.

It was horrible. I am always looking for a family place to get dinner instead of the chains. The place was dead and yelp said stay away. But I wanted to give them my money over the subway next door. They got my money but never again. I got the Special. Over cooked spaghetti with a sauce that was so obviously from a can. I took two bites and left. Service was fine. You can see from my reviews that I am usually not negative.

Stopped in late one evening and was surprised out how good the food was. Everything was hot and fresh and cooked in a timely manner. It was a little understaffed but it was late so I can't say it was horrible. I'd definitely stop in again.

I wanted to try this place I have driven by it so many times I thought why not. I now know why the parking lot is empty. I had a friend recommend the Chalet in Newport she said it was delightful I thought maybe they were the same owner, but my guess that they aren't connected. We got there around 5:30pm the start of dinner. We were the only customers in the dining area a couple outside and maybe one or two in the bar. The waitress was not very knowledgeable about the specials or old standbys off the menu. In fact the waitress had to relay multiply questions to the kitchen and back. The decor is cute and with such a large space I expected more people. The waitress rudely began to vacuum the floor was already super clean. So here we are trying to have a conversation with this loud vacuum going on in the background. Not to mention the dust the vacuum bag threw up when she pulled it out. My friend added a salad to her meal and for the price it isn't worth it. You could buy a bag salad that looked better. I added fruit to my meal instead of french fries, the fruit was slimy and the honeydew had mold on it eww. My chicken was cold in the middle and hot on the outside as if it was microwaved. After our meals we thought maybe the famous pies might fill us up. The pies were good, but not super great. The peanut butter pie my friend had was frozen solid as if it was one from a box the whip topping fell off like a rock. My coconut cream pie was good, the crust was spot on and the filling wasn't lumpy and the portion was a good size it just meh like I could have a cheaper piece of pie at Sherry's with the same taste. Sad to say I won't be going back, and I really like the decor inside it was clean and open.

I've driven by here many times but have never stopped. If I'd read the reviews before going in, I would have thought I was in the wrong place because my experience at this restaurant was nothing like the poor reviews it's gotten. I ordered the Veggie Breakfast Burrito and I have to say, it's right up there as one of the most tastiest breakfast burritos I've ever had. Stuffed full of broccoli, artichokes, potatoes, cheddar cheese, eggs and other veggies like tomatoes, I'm now very stuffed full myself. It comes with sides of salsa and sour cream - the burrito was yummy and filling! I love my coffee and I usually have to "doctor up" diner coffee to make it go down my throat but the coffee I was served today was fine the way it came out of the pot - hot and dark. The service was swift and good - my coffee cup was delivered almost immediately and was never empty. Even though others have had negative experiences, perhaps they're old news and/or isolated incidents because my experience was such a good one that I will definitely be coming back here! In fact, I hear some pie calling my name :)

My husband is a truck driver, and I was fortunate enough to be able to go with him on this last run. We were tired of eating Taco Bell and subway which is all the pilot truck stop has to offer, so despite the reviews this place has received we decided to try it out, since everyone is different and has different expectations. I have to say it was better than eating fast food, though we weren't impressed. I had a blt which the bacon was like eating jerky, the fries were like the one's I would buy at a grocery store for those lazy nights where you just don't feel like cooking. My husband had a burger which he said he wasn't impressed. Like I told him though it was better than eating fast food, and I've had worse. The wait staff was super friendly. Not sure if i would go back, I guess it all depends on how desperate I was.

Typical diner in the middle of nowhere it seems. Filled with gaggles of old chatting ladies. There is an odd arcade to the right as you walk in -- I believe for online or game gambling? Deer heads adorn the walls. Prices are okay. The breakfast was standard. OH! The multigrain homemade pancakes are to die for!! YUM yum yum. My friend Luci and I could not stop eating them. The pies also looked amazing.

A decent rural diner in the grandest tradition of the highway pit stop. In some respects, their menu exceeds their grasp. For instance, the nachos are disappointingly roughshod. Decent burger, better than average soup, good pies. Prices are a tad high, though some items are a better value. Avoid the kids menu --better value in the adult entrees.

Nice comfortable, home style restaurant with a country decor. A little on the pricey side, plan on about $15 for breakfast with tip but, the food is very good & plentiful.

The kids were hungry and we wanted to have a meal on our way to Grandmas house. since this was on the way and promised to be as good family restaurant, thought we could give it a try. Boy was I wrong. The atmosphere was ok, about what I expect for a truck stop. Now I don't think twice about spending $15 to $20 a person for good food but for what we got I was rather disappointed. The special was a "Meat lover Scramble" for $9.95. being a carnivore I thought that sounded good. What I got was a plate of overcooked crunchy deep fried potatoes with a little bit of small cubed ham smothered in cheddar cheese and two eggs on top. Even simple food can be good food. this was not good at all. To replace it I ordered an eggs Benedict. Figured it was hard to mess up this simple dish. Boy was I wrong. Would have been ok if the Hollandaise sauce was not on it. Very little ham and smothered in a powder and water goo that was very hard to stomach. To top it off the coffee was very weak and burnt. It is times like these that I have considered protesting paying the bill. The one thing I do remember from when there was a Chalet in Salem was that they had good deserts. I may give them another shot for that.

Food was terrible! I am NOT a food snob. This place was just bad! There were a decent amount of people dining, and couldn't figure out how within a couple of minutes, literally, we got our food. I can understand prepping food to ensure a faster delivery time, but we got our plates faster than it takes to cook a piece of bacon. My hashbrowns could have replaced a frisbee. I could chew through a piece of jerky faster than their bacon. The Hollandaise sauce looked like nacho cheese and was terrible. That sat on top of two THINLY sliced pieces of deli ham and a burnt English muffin. How long had this food been sitting in the kitchen under a heat lamp?!? Buffet food has this beat many times. The only thing this place has going for them are their waitresses and nice bathrooms. I am in the food industry. This is unacceptable. I'd wait for a decent meal before having a crappy one to fill my empty stomach. Especially after paying over $10 per breakfast plate. Should have gone to McDonalds.

Slow service and horrible food. I don't think anything that was served to me and my family was actually cooked from scratch in the kitchen. The gravy tasted like it came from a can, and the veggies were obviously quick frozen. Huge disappointment! Don't be tempted by the warm looking building. No matter how hungry you are keep driving.
