If this review was based on food alone, I would've given it 4 1/2 stars, but the waitress was not attentive and/or friendly at all. It's a shame because the food was sooooo delicious. We ordered the Chateau Classique vegetarian sandwich with rosemary garlic fries and Turkey Jalapeño Melt the with salad. The fries are those big fat steak fries although we didn't taste/ see any rosemary, there were little garlic flecks all over. So good. I am a meat eater but that was such a good vegetarian sandwich that you didn't need meat. Like I said, so bummed that the waitress wasn't better. I really wanted to give them a better review.

So the brick has awesome food and terrible service..... we asked for iced tea and when they brought it out it tasted just like coffee.... when we told the girl she had an awful attitude about it and then later came back and said "Yeah we don't wash the coffee pot before we make iced tea"..... excuse me!?! That's so gross! Especially for a popular restaurant in Salem.....

I have to say I only recommend the beer. They have good deals and typical bar food but not my favorite. Good location and good beer.

We've been here several times. The service is always fast, the food is great, and the price is right.

Horrible cocktails. Do not order the Pom-tini or Asian Pear martini. Cough syrup in alcoholic form. Service was nice though...

BEST. WINGS. EVER. I'm not even a fan of wings but I found myself drooling over the wings that my husband ordered. Perfect amount of crispness and Tabasco sauce! I had the shrimp Alfredo stuffed potato and it was also very nearly to die for! I didn't really like the tomato basil mushroom soup though. It was nice and chunky but smelled and tasted like canned tomatoes. It needed more attention and love. The atmosphere is big and open, kid friendly and kind of loud and echoey but I like that kind of thing. The service is on the slow side but I enjoyed that because it was a time to relax and enjoy time with family, and just take our time. Totally my speed... We were not in a hurry and the waitress was always at our table before my beer was empty so it was perfect! I will DEFINITELY be back.

If you can get by the dirty dingy bar this isn't too bad of a place. The food is something you might want to stay away from unless your hungry but the drink prices are pretty good and there is plenty of seating for a large group.

We went here late at night because their kitchen was still open and we were hungry. The food was very greasy and underwhelming. The grease smell sort of permeates the entire place, for that reason alone I won't be going back. The service was fine abs the prices ok. The drinks were also just fine, though their beer selection sort of sucked. Many better options, though I wish more places kept their kitchens open late.

It is never a good sign when you walk into an establishment looking for service and everyone stares at you without saying a word. Our group of bridesmaids were staying at the Grand Hotel and needed a quick bite to eat, so we stopped by Brick for dinner. It was a very pleasant evening, so we wanted to sit outside, but when we went inside for service, everyone just stared. We decided to seat ourselves at one of the outdoor tables and a waitress finally made her way to our table about 20 minutes later. I ended up ordering a French Dip, which is usually pretty difficult to mess up. I received a greasy, limp sandwich. The meat closely resembled rubber. I could have found a grocery store and quickly thrown together something much more appetizing for half the price. If you are staying at the Grand, stick to the hotel restaurant.

This bar is only in business due to the great location. The bar has terrible cocktails, poor beer selection, lousy service, and some of the worst bar food I have ever experienced in Salem. It just goes to show you how much location matters, because based on the cleanliness and quality of food and drink, the owner could not care any less about his customers. I look forward to the day this bar closes and turns into something that this town can actually be proud of.

It was "Dad's Choice" of lunch destinations. Having been in here one or two times for Happy Hour years ago, but never tried any of the food, I was willing to give it a shot. Mostly because I'm willing to give anything a shot. Right upon seating I was asked for my I.D. and told that minors had to sit in a different area towards the rear. My father found this to be gut busting funny and had to smother outright laughter behind a fit of coughing l because I'm thirty-something (though I fully admit to looking no where close to my actual age). I think the waitress was actually embarrassed when she looked at my birth date. I ordered a standard bacon cheeseburger with fries, my dad ordered some odd stir-fry concoction that looked rather shady, but he insisted it was pretty good. Unfortunately I cannot say the same for my poor burger. It was very, very juicy and heavily laden with magic sauce of some sort. This combination proceeded to turn my bun into a soggy marshland of sesame seeds and goo. After two attempts at actually holding my burger up to my mouth for a bite, I switched to a fork. I lamented my special sauce covered hands until the end of the meal when I was able to wash them properly. Once I was able to scrape the gelatinous mass off the majority of my meat and bacon, it was palatable. That's about all I can say. The fries were average. The saving grace of the afternoon luncheon was the coffee. I was pleasantly surprised that it was hot, fresh, and really good.

Top of the line dishes, great atmosphere for meeting up with friends for happy hour. I think we will be regulars.

Don't go! Service was beyond horrible! We were attending a conference just down the street and decided to have lunch here so we could sit outside. It took over an hour after ordering to get served. After 30 minutes, and seeing people get served that had arrived after us, we checked with our waitress and were told our food would be right out. After another 10 minutes we checked again and were told it would be another 10 minutes. Another 20 minutes went by before our food arrived, and 2 of the 4 orders were not done correctly and had to go back. A lady did come out and offer each of us a $10 gift certificate for our next visit. Since a couple of us do not live local and wouldn't have an opportunity to come back and use them at a later date, we asked if we could use them today, but were told no. Since we had no use for them, and wouldn't come back anyway, we gave them back. I've never experienced service that was so bad. They didn't acknowledge the reason for the wait, or why many parties came after us and were done eating before we were even served. Although the waitress did acknowledge she noticed that was happening and was herself wondering why...

Burger tasted like the grill hadn't been cleaned...ever. Unable to take more than 2 bites even though I was hungry. Slow inattentive service, had to ask 2 to 3 times for things. Take a few more steps to go to browns town for better food and service.

We were visiting salem and ran across it on our own. The atmosphere is pretty good the service was a little slow but very friendly. I had the chicken parmesean with alfredo pasta and it was delicious!!!

We came in as a group of 4, were not greeted when came in so sat ourselves as a table. Staff was friendly enough but disappointed to hear that they didn't give free refis on sodas. The real frustration was the wait for our food, way too long and without a word of apology from our server. A friendly "sorry for the wait folks, appreciate your patience" would have gone a long way, instead I felt we were being a bit avoided. They were not crazy busy and don't know if they had just one cook? Food was ok but not great. Agree with another's review, burger tasted like cooked on unclean grill. I would recommend customers being pre-warned that the food may take awhile. I recommend eating somewhere else.

The place definitely needs a good cleaning. Seams like some of the dust has been there for decades. Besides that the good is great. I ordered the Philly cheesesteak and that was amazing. I was very impressed with that sandwich. I definitely walked out happy.

I was a regular at this place when I lived in Salem. It's a great happy hour spot. There specials include chicken dishes, nachos, quesadillas and a veggie plate so there is something for everyone. I'm not a beer drinker so if you are looking for the craft beer selection I can't say much. If you are looking for a good mixed drink or shot...they got you covered!! I moved away 3 years ago but find myself back in Salem monthly. Fortunately they let me keep my "regular" status. The crowd does change from happy hour to late night but it always stays pretty laid back. Plenty of televisions to watch sports too. I've never thought downtown Salem had a lot to offer. I'm glad The Brick is there. It's a great mix of everything.

My buddy and I were hankering for some grub and a cold one, we were passing through downtown and decided to drop in here, and here are my findings... AMBIENCE: It doesn't appear they are going after a theme, and I am fine with that - it looks like what you would expect out of a decent bar, long bartop with room for plenty of folks to belly-up and some semi-private seating arrangements on the floor that are condusive to groups. Overall clean and standard issue - if you take the time to look around, there is a bit if charm from the old building hidden throughout. BEER/LIQUOR: The selection is adequate, there are a few good local micro options that appear to be rotating given the current options are seasonal runs for the breweries offered (ninkasi and Lagunitas). They offer a full bevy of liquor options, full bar for sure. FOOD: The options are pretty good here, there are some original sandwich creations, burritos, and burgers - I opted for the bacon cheesburger and garlic fries - thumbs up, there was good flavor and it was prepared with some care. SERVICE: We sat at the bar and we were served by the owner, she was very nice and attentive. There was one other woman serving tables and it seemed she was taking good care of them. ALL-IN-ALL: If you want a cold beer and a cheeseburger in downtown salem, this is a good option.

I am just not a fan of this place. I have gone here several times due to friends wanting to go here and I dread it each time. The food isn't bad but the service is hellish. You wait and wait and wait and then when someone finally takes you order they act like you are bothering them. Don't go unless you are forced to. Just sayin.

This bar seems to be full of regulars who know each other. I was happy with my beer and the service was good. I think it would be more fun if I knew everyone!

We came here for lunch on a sunny afternoon. We shared 2 meals and the Terrific waitress brought us our meals already split up for us! The wet burrito was good and the Italian Philly sandwich was moist and delicious!

As long as your expectations are in line with what this place delivers, you'll have a good time here! Nice downtown location, a lot of outdoor seating, a dive-bar interior. This is the kind of place you order a beer or a jack & coke, nothing fancier (unless you want it to taste like sh*t). The food is the same...i'm guessing that 75% of ingredients are frozen, so order accordingly and you'll be fine.

I had been there before for happy hour and it seemed ok so I tried it for lunch....twice. Both lunch attempts netted me cold and chewy french fries. The second trip I ordered a soda for $2.25. The soda came as a cup of ice garnished with soda. After pounding through the first soda I asked for a refill. "No refills." $8.50 for a frozen burger patty and chewy fries and $4.50 for maybe one full glass of coke. How has this place stayed in business for so long?

Great Place to see a game. Burgers are as good as any. Get extra napkins. They are a little juicy. Don't like the giant steak fries. If you want any kind of mustard other than the yellow kind for corn dogs forget it. Service was great. Looks like they are working on a better beer selection but still alot of yellow fizzy stuff. Looks like the same owner have been here a while. It has if it is not broken don't fix it vibe. Need to update the menu. Poor and few happy hour choices. Too many items on the menu and not enough imagination. I am not buying a steak or having pan fried oysters at a sports bar, sorry. This is not The Outback. They have a couple of tables that needs replacing. Thought I was going to break the one I was sitting at.

come here to have a drink with working class Salem. Staff was very friendly and cute. I would recommend to anyone staying at the Grand Hotel or downtown to swing by for a drink.

Brick Bar has the lucky fortune of being situated in the heart of Salem's downtown area, where it is bound to attract locals and tourists alike. The only problem is that its spendy for Salem standards, the food is comparable to just about any bar food with other establishments, and the service has been mediocre over the past couple of years. It can be pretty crowded at times, but thats only because the place is smaller than it looks. There are many better options in Salem, recommended that this place become a "come if desperate" location.

The only reason I ever go to this place is because I am invited by a group of guy friends that want to get in bed with the wait staff. Their only real selling point is .75 cent tacos on Tuesday nights, if your stomach can handle the grade D beef, hot sauce and sour cream with your beverage. It has a great corner location with a lot of windows and the atmosphere isn't bad, but the food is terrible and the drinks are below average. It's different every time. Sometimes I get a glass of cran with a drop of vodka, and other times a glass of vodka with a drop of cran. Not sure which one is better. I ordered a chicken wrap there once and it tasted like the wrap was made of cardboard and had been sitting out for a while. The waitresses come up and talk to the men first and provide no real service at all other than shuttling my drink from the bar to my table. They don't smile, they aren't polite, and they don't seem to go the extra mile., or even A mile. For pros, it's a good place to meet with a group because they've got plenty of available bar stools and cheap food and drinks if you're on a budget. The location is nice too, right downtown and walking distance to a lot of other good spots.

This is kind of the bar I think of when I want to do some serious drinking. I don't particularly like it, but it seems like the right place to get around some shots. The food is pretty crappy, and the drinks could be cheaper, but you can certainly pick up some other drunk singles if you're looking. A place for bad decisions.

Just another bar. The food is nothing special. The decor consists of your typical juvenile beer commercial paraphanilia plastered everywhere, and I mean everywhere. Even the tabletops are covered in advertising. This place really is just for frat boys past their prime. There are better places in Salem.

  • Heather I.

The food is not impressive. Their drinks are like any other closely measured drinks. Fairly priced. Generally busy, and if you like waiting for a drink, by all means wait. I have never had a really poor or great experience here. However, it is downtown, and it is where the bulk of my friends start off their night. I always seemed to get sucked in, and hoping for something new. At the end of the day, its a bar with ok service. Frankly the most concerning part is when one of the owners is drunk sitting around. If I owned a bar, I most certainly wouldnt be caught drunk in my bar. Seems very unprofessional. That being said, I feel uneasy drinking when that is taking place.

The location and building are great but that is where it ends! I was at the Capital speaking today and went there for lunch! DO NOT GO. the portions were to small to even say that you ate! The food quality was horrible too! This is NOT even good BAR food! Service was good if you call just filling up water glasses.....I am sorry but this is a MUST GO SOMEWHERE ELSE place!

If you're a frat boy (or have a frat boy mentality), then this is your place. See also: The Ram. If you're not a frat boy, there are plenty of other places to hang out, have a beer and/or burger, and watch the game.

Great food, amazingly strong drinks, good prices and outstanding service. We highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a good clean comfortable place to unwind in downtown Salem. I live about an hour away but would drive to Salem just to come back to this place.

We were visiting the area and walked out of the place across the street (Gayle's Italian Market. Service) to try this location. It was a great decision - good food and the service was outstanding - they kept checking to be sure all was ok. (I found out that when the TV show Northern Exposure was being filmed in Washington - the crew stopped by since the show also has a restaurant named the Brick). Bar looks clean and friendly and - the best part was - they know how to make s Rueben sandwich - it was made correctly with NO questions as to how I want it. Comes with salad or soup and I chose the Potato salad. I thought it was on the bland side but wife liked it. What I didn't like was - in my opinion the overcharge for soft drinks - Diet coke $2.50 with $1.00 for refills . Thought the refill cost was high.

First of all, I will say that Brick's has 4 very good things going for it. 1) The location is stellar, for Salem Oregon. 2) The decor and vibe are pretty nice, for Salem Oregon 3) The food is good 4) it's one of the only places that you are going to go to look at some good looking girls, however, the customer service is going down hill big time. I will say that Salem is a whole town riddled with bad customer service. I don't know what it is but it's almost like it is bred in their DNA to be cold, never smile, not want to help people, horrible. In the past I have had some pretty decent times here though, some nice conversations at the bar and with the waitresses or bar tenders, but this last time I went is exactly that, my LAST. I ordered a Rock Star energy drink and a chicken sandwich and proceeded to talk to the guy next to me for the next hour or so. During that hour I ate my sandwich and tried to get the bartender's attention and it became apparent to me that she was intentionally ignoring me. I asked one of the waitresses who I had talked to before several times, if I could take a pic of her holding a food tray for my Twitter review to my 70,000 followers so they could see how cool this place was and how good looking the waitresses are because, well, lets be honest, it will bring guys in out of the rain in a town where pretty girls are few and far between. She made a snide remark to me like I was some desperate loser who wanted to take a pic of her to tell people that she was my new "Friend or I was hooking up with her," as if I would tell people something that stupid, when she is obviously a waitress, hello! So she asks the other waitress who looks at me, gives me a dirty look and turns around and walks off shaking her head no, like a serious bitch, and she wasn't even the all that. It was the other one that would have brought the guys. Obviously I am sitting there sober as can be thinking, "is there something horribly wrong with me for wanting to help a local business in my mom's town out?" Could they have handled it different? YES! They could have done something called customer service and politely said something like "I am really sorry but waitresses are not allowed to take pics, or I would love to but I just do not wish to be exposed publicly, I am a private person," ya know? There is a courteous way of doing things. Management, you have done a wonderful job of hiring some pretty girls, so I hand it to you on that, but you really need to have some seminars or something on how to smile, and be friendly. Oh, and the bartender who also never smiles; I ended up being there about 3 hours, needed another Rock Star for 2 hours and never got one. She was more concerned with talking to some guy she knew and the other waitresses than she was with weather the paying customer needed something.
