From beginning to end Amadeus was amazing! Great local food that is fresh and delicious. Good drinks. Friendly atmosphere and very friendly staff. This was our first time and definitely won't be our last. Chips and hummus = great Food = great (presentation) Food = great (taste) Drinks = great Desert = great Service = great "Everything was great down to the pen I was given to sign the receipt," says the copilot. Serious food for a delightful evening! Thanks!

Out for a quick dinner date with the hubby we decided that "somewhere downtown" was were we would enjoy our two hours of baby-free time. That was about as far as our decision making had gotten us. As we sat in our car now parked "downtown" for a moment contemplating exactly were we should eat, I scanned the closest establishments on Yelp. Amadeus was a solid choice, the menu had a little bit of something that pleased both me and my more meat and potatoes husband. I ordered a brown beer to start with and it arrived with swiftness. Either it was the beer itself that was excellent, or the fact that I had no beer for the past 9 months, but either way - yum. My pesto-alfredo shrimp (sub'd for extra shrimp and no scallops) was nice and creamy, no complaints. My husband's hamburger was "alright" although he said something on it tasted like honey, but wasn't sure what. Service was handled very well between the only two servers working that night, who had the entire restaurant to cover, plus outside seating. Kudos to those two, they worked well as a pair. The tab was a bit pricey, but it went with the overall feel of the slightly upper scale experience.

Awful! Don't do it! We waited forever to sit down. Waited forever for WATER. Waited forever for our food! Communication as poor. One person in our party waited longer for his pizza and all they said was the fuse blew on the oven. He asked if he could get comped and was told, "with another WATER." It was so rude. Then they didn't include green beans on my dish and was told I got cabbage instead. Worst experience ever! Don't eat here!

I enjoy Amadeus and probably have lunch here once a month. The burgers are incredibly tasty and they cook them exactly the way you want. Medium is really medium here and that's hard to find anywhere. I love the rosemary and parmesan shoestring fries. I had the chicken and mushrooms dish yesterday for lunch and it was super tasty. Served over spinach so it is not too heavy. If you go at dinner: order the brisket! Seriously. You can order it at lunch inside a quesadilla but the dinner brisket dish is incredible. Great cocktails, too!

Outstanding dinner of wild Coho Salmon topped with half avocado on a bed of sautéed onions, cabbage and baby spinach. Side of fresh broccoli. Chips & other tasty sauces. Arlie Riesling wine. Fettichini Alfredo with scallops and shrimp. Chardony wine. Expert taster reported it also was excellent. 4 glasses of wine + meals = $75.00

Food was great. Happy hour was great. 2 alcoholic beverages and three appetizers were so filling for two people. Service not so great. Except for the food runner who was hustling and made me feel like a valued customer. The other wait staff no...catered to the older distinguished crowd, not the entry level crowd. Will not be going back. It was like pulling teeth to ask where the bathroom was from the bartender.

I've been here two different times and both were for special occasions. I was here once for a bridal shower luncheon and another time for 30th birthday party. I think my fun times at those two events kind of swayed my view of the restaurant. The food is okay. Both times it was neither bad nor good but overall it was pretty unimpressive. The restaurant itself is really cute and the service is always decent but I don't think that this would be somewhere I would choose to go without there being a special event.

Giving them one star is generous. Rotten iced tea. Horrifically slow service. Burger? Haha I took one bite and could not continue. Meat was rock hard. How hard? I could bite through it. Half way through my bite mayonnaise squirted all over the table.

I wanted to like this place, but just couldn't. Went here for lunch last week. My husband ordered the Harissa Chicken Skewers, and I opted for the Lamb Wrap. His chicken skewers may have been good, but I couldn't taste it, for I had taken one bite of the lamb wrap and felt my blood pressure rise immediately rise. I don't know how they got that much salt on the plate without draining the Dead Sea. I would qualify the food as inedible, but I was starved from shopping and had paid $12 for the thing, and was not about to give up. I'm just not that type of girl. The service was prompt, but with food this bad, I cannot recommend Amadeus to any unsuspecting Yelper.

Went on a Saturday night and granted they were VERY busy. The food was delicious!!! I got the Le Mac with bacon crumbles. It came out broiling. With that said we didn't receive the drinks we ordered upon arrival for about 45 mins and our great food 90 mins in. My water was refilled one time. For the service it seemed overpriced, with my entree about $16. The server was nice and got us a tiny portion of hummus and literally like 4 chips for a table of 4, a nice gesture but really just aggravated our hunger. Overall I would go again but maybe for lunch or on a less busy night.

This is one of the best restaurants in Salem! Owner Diana Ramallo and daughter Alena Stewart are fantastic! They've hired great staff and food is consistently top notch and drinks are fantastic

We reserved a table for six at Noon on Sunday, May 11th. Amadeus Cafe was advertising a Mother's Day buffet / brunch from 10:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. The consisted of a pastry station with muffins, danishes, scones and rolls. A salad station with couscous and caesar salad. A traditional breakfast station with eggs, bacon, sausage and grilled tomatoes. A meat station with baked salmon, prime rib, bone-in ham, roasted potatoes and grilled asparagus. And a desert station. The buffet was $25.00 per person, with a 20-percent gratuity automatically added to each check. Coffee and cokes are $2.95, with refills. We were disappointed with the buffet. I understood from our server, Melanie, that this was the first time Amadeus had done a buffet. The owner, Deanna, made no provision for keeping the food hot, so everything served on trays on the buffet tables had cooled, from the fried eggs to the salmon to the roasted potatoes and prim rib. We all agreed it would have been better to order off the menu. I wish we had been there at 10:00 A.M., and feel very sorry for the people who there at 2:00 P.M. The restaurant is a beautiful space, and Melanie provided excellent service. Two stars for the buffet, three stars for the ambiance, and four stars for the service.

Great food, happy hour, and wine selection. Dependably poor service. You can pretty much bet that you will not get your drinks and appetizers in a timely or even comprehensible fashion. Last time we went, the server said "I'll bring you water, if I can." (...?!) He never did come back. My advice is to order drinks as soon as you are seated. It is your best, sometimes only, chance of getting your drink before your meal, especially if you sit outside (where you should prepare to be forgotten each step of the way). Even so, the food is worth suffering through the service.

New location, same lousy service. We walk in and waitress says she'll be right back. We wait five minutes and she ignores us three times and just disappears and doesn't return. There were open tables. So we left and gave our business to another restaurant instead. Their geography has improved, but their service hasn't. Won't be back since this was going to be our "Give them a second chance dinner."

Trendy new location in down town. Pretty much the same menu. Lots of variety, all good. I would like to try their happy hour. We had good service and were able to get in and out on a lunch hour

What a experience! Started off with artichoke and black truffle hot dip, "this stuff was to die for!" Then proceeded onto bacon shrimp risotto. This combination of flavor paired with a perfectly cooked risotto was like sex in a bowl, to put it mildly. The wait staff were attentive and very friendly without being that " over the top fake friendly." Looking forward to future return to try other menu items. These guys do it right!

I went to Amadeus on a date night with my hubby. It was a beautiful and delicious evening. I got the sweet potato that was covered with tasty pork and pineapple salsa. It was exploding with flavor. The atmosphere was classic and romantic. We will be back frequently.

So disappointed in this place. I love the hummus they sell at Lifesource so we decided to go for lunch. Our server was nice but only checked on us to get our menu and give us our bill. My friend got a wrap it looked tasty until I she got down to last bite and sticking out was a straight eyelash. I had the poluet poluet which was delicious, moist, and flavorful. As soon as I saw the eyelash in my friends wrap I was done for the meal. She only got half off because she ate most of it, but most likely that restaurant was ruined for the both of us.

The small plate I had was decent, but forgetable and I'm in no hurry to go back but thats because despite the fact they have WIFI, they don't let the customers use it. I asked and was told that customers aren't allowed access. Not having WIFI is one thing, but denying use to a patron at the bar seems odd to me. The building was intersting, probably what I enjoyed most about my time there. I'll look for a place that is more welcoming in the future. I'm not inclined to patronize a business that has WIFI, but restricts their customers from it.

There are two cardinal rules of the restaurant trade: Keep the water glasses full and don't make the guests wait on their cocktails. Amadeus broke them both. I had 'discovered' this place while I was walking to another place one day. I poked my head in to see what it was and grabbed a card. I researched them online and liked their offerings, so last night I had opportunity to sample their fare. As I mentioned above, there are two cardinal rules of the restaurant trade. Water and Cocktails - keep both full! However, Amadeus doesn't follow these rules. We were seated promptly and given menus. Our waiter, Alexander, stopped by to explain the steak of the day. Before he left though we had to ask for water, and we ordered our cocktails and an appetizer (The Brie en Poof). We then sat there chatting for ten minutes waiting for our water and cocktails. We weren't far from the bar, so we could see the bartender NOT making drinks. He would come our from behind the bar and chat with customers then go back and stand around. After about 15 minutes our water and Brie arrived, Still no cocktails. The Brie was wrapped in phyllo dough and baked nicely. The three small pieces of bread were not enough to serve the brie on though. It did have a nice flavor. Our drinks finally arrived and Alexander took our diner order, My partner chose the Jumbo Scallops and I opted for the Painted Hills Brisket. We had finished our appetizer and Alexander brought out a small plate with hummus and colored chips. The hummus was served at room temp as it should be and had a good unique flavor. My partner, having finished his cocktail, flagged Alexander over so he could order another. Alexander put the order in, and again we waited as the bartender did anything but make drinks. Our meals arrived about ten minutes after the drink order was in, and we were halfway through our meals when I flagged Alexander over to ask about my partner's cocktail. He left to check on it and disappeared into the room behind the bar. Another five minutes of watching the bartender do nothing and then he finally made the drink. Oh yeah, we had to ask for a water refill twice during the meal. So onto the food, I mean, that is one of the reasons you are yelping in the first place. My partner reported that the Scallops were rubbery and not cooked properly. His exact words: "The Chef doesn't seem to understand how to pan sear." My Painted Hills Brisket was more painted hills than brisket. When it arrived, I had a hard time finding any bits of brisket. I did eventually locate three small morsels. The reduction and polenta was tasty, but I would have liked more brisket and less hills. Over all my initial impression and expectations were not fulfilled upon patronizing the establishment, Alexander, while friendly and engaging, wasn't very attentive to our needs as diners. The food was overpriced for what was delivered, and the palate was good but not great. Amadeus seems to be trying too hard to impress with appearance and not enough with the food. I believe in second chances, and we will go back again to sample their lunch offerings. But at this time, the only thing we may go there for is a drink we don't mind waiting for.

Very friendly service and good prices. The guy who started this cafe is from Greece and knows what he's doing. I've had the dinner salad, soup, and gyro. All of them were good.

So.....I have been a long time patron of Amadeus. Tonight was by far the worst experience. My dinner partner arrived first and asked for a table but in turn was asked if she had a reservation. She said no but asked if we could still be seated. Then they took a very long time to determine if it was possible. Once at the table she ordered a cocktail but was never offered a chance to order an appetizer while she waited (the rest of the party was unexpectedly delayed). Then the rest of us arrived and noticed that the happy hour time listed on the menu was different then the one online and we had based out plans on the online info. When I asked about it we were told that they were aware the website was not up to date as the time had changed three weeks ago but that they would not honor the times listed on the site. That was fine. We decided to stay and eat since it had been an eventful afternoon. What was not fine was that the service for getting cocktails and food ordered was slow despite arriving before the rush. Then the food arrived out of order - entrees before the salads and appetizers despite the fact the entrees were ordered much later. The final insult was the automatic inclusion of the gratuity to the bill. Gratuity is usually only added for tables of 6 or more per their menu and our party was smaller than that. I politely informed the waitress that had the gratuity not been added her tip would've been larger. My usual minimum tip is better than the gratuity they added to our bill. The food was good but since all our courses arrived at once and our table was never once pre-bused the impression that out business was unwanted was very strong. My dinner companions, who had never been to Amadeus before, stated this would be their last experience there. No use in spending your money where it's not wanted. I would have to say I agree.

Really good food. Definite Mediterranean influences throughout the menu: Italian, Greek, Lebanese. The tabbouleh was almost entirely bulgur wheat. The side salad was entirely greens - no tomatoes, or veggies. Tasty but a bit boring. The beef medallions were served perfectly - could've used some more green brand, sauce was delicious, potatoes were perfect but the beef were a bit less than great. Some gristle, chewy, not butter- soft as I'd hoped. Dinner for two with cocktails was about $95 with tip so it's definitely not a daily eatery but we'd probably go back.

Exceptional food and service. Had one of the best lunches I've ever had today and I'm a tough critic. My daughter was difficult so they brought her crayons and paper and then an iPad to play with. Very impressed with this place. I would highly recommend it

I have been to Amadeus two times now and both times the food was AWESOME. I mean, AWESOME. Yay. The first time the service was great, everyone was super nice. The second time...not so much. Can't figure out why wait staff can be unpleasant. Are you not in the business of customer service?!?!? No matter...I will try them again cause the food is AWESOME! If the wait staff is unpleasant than that will be the last time I partake...even if the food is awesome, your wait staff can bring you down a few notches!

Salem is fortunate to have Amadeus Cafe in their downtown. This is a very welcoming eatery with friendly and competent service, fine list of wines by the glass and by the bottle, and the food! OMG... Outstanding!!!! My only regret is I live 2,500 miles away,

Very nice place. The wait staff was very nice and checked on us often to make sure we had what we needed. The food was very good, I had the lamb sandwich and my wife had the Kobe beef hamburger. The only down side was there was a longer wait then I would expect for our food. Over all I would most certainly go there again.

Quick: Good food, good ambiance, attentive service. Full story: I had lunch here and ordered the Lamb Sandwich. It was served on a ciabatta roll with greens, feta, and tzatziki sauce. The lamb was well cooked and seasoned, the roll had a crisp crust and nice chewy center. The sauce and feta were a nice compliment to the sandwich. It was served with sweet potato fries; they were ok not the best I've had but certainly not the worst. The ambiance of the restaurant is nice, lots of big artwork, the bar is beautiful, and you can hear everyone at your table during a busy lunch. The price was reasonable at $13 for the lamb sandwich with sweet potato fries. I will definitely be coming again to try the rest of the menu.

Fresh and gorgeous! I've had lunch and drinks here so far. Both were fabulous. Drinks with a girlfriend were shortly after they opened. We tried a few of their signature cocktails and loved them. We also had a work lunch there. It was great! I had the California Guacamole and Brie melt. Ah-mazing. Next is getting the hubs to take me there for dinner!

Third time here, and came to try out the happy hour. On Tuesdays they have happy hour all night! ! We ordered lots of good food, but I was stuffed. I had half of my bruschetta pizza left, and I asked for a box. Sad news: they don't allow any happy hour food to be taken home. I paid for my food, so why can't I take it? Also, service has always been sloooooowwww... Expect to be waiting for-ehh-vuuhhhrrr.

We love this place but yesterday we went there for a 5:30 reservation to find that we were not on the list and they were getting ready for 2 large groups of 20 people. The person was very short with us and said we should have confirmed our reservation. We will think twice before going back. We went to Bentleys and had a great dinner.

2nd time here! The food is awesome, just takes a while so make sure you have time because it isn't quick. But it is all hot when they bring it out so that was good!

I had the special - flank steak? with onion mashed potatoes and mole sauce, my better half the lamby pie. Brie en poof was tough and not cooked long enough - had to cut with fork an knife. My steak surprise was flavorful, but lamby pie was salty and crust was hardly thin - in my opinion. I would never say a cut of steak has been "cooked to death" but tonight's special was definitely cooked to death... Cute and charming place, good service, maybe we ordered wrong dishes? The hummus and chips were awesome.

I have to say my dinner was by far the best I've had in ages anywhere. The cocktails, dinner and dessert were wonderful. My only complaint is we were kept waiting for our cocktails both times we ordered.

    (4)
  • Elaine E.

Great atmosphere and service was ok. I was unable to eat the mushroom risotto. It was under cooked and the feta cheese was overpowering. It would have been a more enjoyable dish with a traditional cheese. Waitress absolutely did not respond to my comments... Just took my plate away and delivered a check for the full price even though I left most of it behind.

What a beautiful interior. That's really the only thing nice to say about it. The food is boring. The food is also poorly made. I didn't have a cocktail, but the members of my table kept commenting on the glacial pace of delivery. Perhaps the place is so new that things aren't coming together yet. I hope it does soon. It is too lovely inside to waste on that pathetic food. Maybe they could rent out the tables and people can bring their own food...

Just had the most amazing happy hour at this great restaurant. Ive been to the new location three times and love it. The staff is very friendly and informative. They are aware of the menu and will readily make suggestions if you're unsure. Tonight we had new to the menu the pork belly stuffed jalapenos. Absolutely AMAZING on so many levels! Then we had "The Cobbler" turkey sliders on pretzel rolls, sliced mushrooms in this rich, to die for sauce, bacon and shrimp risotto, bruschetta, and finally the Mediterranean plate. You cant go wrong with anything on the menu here. If there is a complaint to be had with Amadeus it would be they are slow to bring out your order...we were the second people in. We placed our orders and waited a good half hour. Maybe if we asked for them to come out one at a time would've been better. We'll try that nect time. Either way.....its so worth the wait! I'll come back again and again.

Fellow vegetarians: Try the spinach salad at Amadeus! Truly the best in town. Caramelized onions, nuts, feta, mushrooms. The chef is amenable to substitutions, and the staff are attentive. Great restaurant!

This is defiantly the new "Best" restaurant in Salem; the atmosphere is very open and comfortable, completely remodeled and updated from the grunge coffee house that haunted this location for the past several years. There is now a very cozy full bar just to the left as you enter with a creative cocktail selection. The original wood floors have been brought back to life and there are hints of old Salem history all around for the curious or observant. They have only been open for about a month but we could not wait to see the new location. We had the special last night Brazed Short Ribs with White Cheddar Spoon Bread and Balsamic Onion Demi-Glace; in a word...... Outstanding!! They don't display the amazing desserts that they are so well known for from their last location; but make sure that you have something. We had the Irish Car Bomb cake; it was a very moist chocolate cake with Guinness and Jamison that just somehow works really well together. We will be back very soon!

This place is phenomenal, I can't say enough great things. We had a large New Year's Eve dinner with friends and it worked wonderful for a fancy event. But I've also used it for business lunches and happy hour (although the happy hour menu is very limited and not cheap). It can be pricey, so it's not your every day spot but a wonderful addition to the Salem restaurant scene. They also have a great back room for rent in the back.

Best place to get dinner in Salem right now. Not a lot of competition admittedly though. Great food both times I have gone, and the menu changes regularly, good drinks, nice ambience, all around great spot to enjoy friends, and have a meal.

The good news - Amadeus recently acquired a top level bartender in Rob. This man is an alchemist converting mere alcohol into experiences. He is a master of his craft. The ok news - The physical plant needs some help. For a new restaurant the chairs are tired, I would guess much of it was purchased used, and without style. The bar area is largely finished in salvaged lumber and looks awesome, but the rest if the place seems largely devoid of thought. The bad news - The food, while head and shoulders above an Applebee's or other chain, seems to be like an American Car of the 1970's. Designed and planed well enough, but assembled and taken through production with a disregard for quality. Plates are cold and chilled the food. Sauces jellied. French bread was chewy. The flan was curdled. Finish is lacking across the board and as a result flavors fall flat. You can see where they are going, they just don't get there. We had a table with several appetizers and entrees and the best thing on the table was a decent, but not exceptional César Salad. Again, not a bad place, but far from its potential.

Its just not the same as it was out south. The Ciopinno was over horribly over cooked, wasnt fresh and tasted low grade. The dry aged steak was just a normal steak that was actually very chewy.
