The great thing about the WWD is that you can buy wine and drink it there with no corkage fee. The price on the bottle is what you pay, whether you take it home or drink it there. Awesome. And wifi, if you care.

It's been awhile since I was here but I can report that it's the same as it ever was. I got my good old #4 on a baguette. It's always a great time to have my avacado shoot out of my sammy while eating and go skidding across my plate. Pro Tip- don't order the #4 on a baguette if you are on a date. Showing amazing strength, I did NOT order a slice of 7th heaven cake. Truth Time- I have so much holiday crap at home, I'm already halfway to a sugar coma. One thing, though. Where were the side dishes? Their usual space was empty. Hopefully, it's just temporary as I love their somen salad. As far as I know, this remains the only place on the boulevard that you can get a better-than-grocery-store bottle of wine. I really hope New Seasons does not kill this place off. Except for 2 women with small children, ours was the only party of people under 60 in here. That kind of demographic does not bode well.

We came here on a Friday night for a wine tasting. We had heard good things. I think they underestimated the crowd that night because the pours were very small. Not a bad tasting though. Deli looks good but it was closed when we got there. We'll have to come back and check it out again some time

This is a pretty sleepy little place with a large selections of wines and beer. We ate there last night showing up not too long before they closed. They were very accommodating despite the last minute order. My sandwich was excellent on a fresh baguette with salami, tomato, provolone and topped with shredded lettuce. My only real complaint was the house wine. I have the taste of a peasant when it comes to wine however it was not especially good to serve even to a peasant. Prices seem fair, the space is wide open and the selection is decent.

I'm writing as a follow-up on my visit last year. As a Reed Alum, I walked past this place too often but since visiting, I came back again for lunch. My husband and I came in a Thursday afternoon. The space is huge yet I'm surprised it wasn't more crowded. Good stuff: Sandwiches! Delicious cake! Both their wine and beer selections are amazing. Lots of unique and 'hard to find' items here folks. Bad stuff: The service. Two workers outside smoking right next to us. They clearly don't have any courtesy to non-Smokers. My husband swears the male worker was either intoxicated or a drug user. A couple working together? (Such a shame) Overall experience: Compared to my last experience, it was less impressive. If it wasn't for the poor customer service by these aloof kids, I probably would have given this 4 stars.

Awesome lunch spot. Quick, friendly, lots of space, and great sandwiches! You have so many choices. If you enjoy a good sandwich they will make it for you. The soups are also great. They usually have chili and a soup of the day. Amazing wines to buy and take home. Also, great prices on beer and wine by the glass.

Friday night tasting from 6-9, totally worth it! Good mom n pop vibe and great wine, do it.

I really want to like this place, but I just can't. The sandwiches are just kinda bland. Whether it's old turkey or chunky avocado bits, there's always something off with these sandwiches. And the sandwiches are massive. Seriously just a fourth of these sandwiches would serve as lunch and dinner for the same day, and the next one. But the wine collection is massive. Not my favorite place to get wine, but if your close to her and love wine, than this is your place. Overall, I wouldn't come here again. Crowded and distasteful sandwiches. Nah, there's way better deli shops in Portland.

Not a wine drinker, but can always find a good bottle for a gift with the help of the knowledgeable staff. I go here for the mushroom pate alone. There's nothing like it. Try it; your life will never be the same!

For a cheap and decent noontime sandwich, Woodstock Wine & Deli fills the bill. This is a very likeable, and apparently, family-run business. My order was taken and prepared by a friendly fresh-faced young man. I was rung up by another young girl and a gentleman that could have been her grandfather. Obviously wine is the emphasis here. The things that run through my mind - just how many fluid ounces are there in one of those big wine bottles they have in a row atop the big cabinet? They have a number of good beers in their fridge too. I don't necessarily want to issue an edict against baguettes because Woodstock W&D offers several types of bread in addition to baguettes. But baguettes have a tough and chewy crust and one overeager bite might send half the sandwich's contents flying. Just pick one of the other breads. I ordered a salami and Swiss cheese sandwich. You can get either mild or spicy salami. I played it safe and went with mild salami. I know it was just mayo and mustard the young guy added to my sandwich, but it was very good mayo and mustard spread in a skillful way. So aside from the idiosyncrasy of baguette bread, for $6,25, this was a good and filling sandwich. Plenty of snack items to select from to go along with your sandwich. Plus one for selling non-MSG Kettle chips. Yes to the Backyard Barbeque potato chips! They also have a number of fancy-shmancy cakes in their case. I opted for a piece of "Seventh Heaven" cake, which is made with seven different kinds of chocolate. Made with a (I think) butter frosting, it was pretty good. I thought it was interesting that they have a big huge chalkboard above the deli counter listing in rather crooked script their nine or so sandwiches. Underneath this chalkboard was a whiteboard menu listing identically what is on the chalkboard. I wonder why they had the two menus. Plenty of tables up front if you want to munch on your meal here.

Woodstock Wine & Deli is a happy place. I tend to use the "deli" part more than the wine part, but they have a large and varied collection. I've been walking up the hill from Reed College since I was a student in the early 90s and was pleased to find that they still serve large and delicious sandwiches. My favorite is turkey, avocado, tomato and sprouts. One sandwich could easily serve as lunch and dinner. The service is really friendly and I'm glad to see the business doing well.

This is one of our favorite places to come for a Saturday lunch. Great choice of wine, great sandwiches and salads. But, most of all it's just a nice neighborhood place. The owner is a wonderful gentleman who still comes in and tends to the register and customers even though he has problems standing for periods of time due to age related issues.

Friday night wine tastings are the best! Completely pretention-free wine spot (can't speak to the deli), affordable wines and informative, approachable staff! It's just a mellow, comfortable place to hang out.

Charming and homey and oh my god - PACKED. I never would have gone to this place, considering that it's across town from my home in North Portland, but a friend was pouring with one of the wineries participating in Woodstock Wine & Deli's regular wine-tastings. So, being the sucker that I am for cheap/free booze, I hightailed it down to Woodstock and, after circling for parking, made my way inside. Seriously, packed. Apparently these are rather large events that draw a substantial and regular crowd. The wineries were lined up along the right side of the room, while the back and left side were occupied by four breweries and long tables with oysters, pulled pork sandwiches, hand-rolled sushi, and bread/cheese for purchase. I'll try to focus less on the event itself and more on the space. It has a comfortable, lived-in feel. Like someone said - almost like you're walking into someone's pantry or amateur wine cellar. But I liked the feel of it immediately and all the patrons, despite being unable to move without accidentally elbowing someone, were all friendly and cheerful (which might have had something to do with the occasionally heavy pours!). This was their 24th anniversary, I believe, and the owner got up to say a few words at the end of the event. He seemed committed to the business and his customers, down to earth, and a genuinely nice guy. He also poured us glasses of free champagne. I talked a bit with one of the other employees and got, overall, a great sense of community and openness. Prices on the bottles seemed decent and I noticed some vegan options on their deli menu! I can't see myself ever coming down here for anything other than another wine tasting (and only if my friend is pouring at it) but it's a cute space with a great staff.

Woodstock Wine & Deli has the most delicious sandwiches- well worth the price. If you're looking for something cheaper and with more of a selection of things to go on your sandwich, there's a Subway about two blocks East. Moving on, they have a great selection of wines and beers (that you can enjoy there or take home), sandwiches (like I already stated), cheeses (my favorite food!), coffees, cakes, truffles, etc. Basically, this place has everything and at a pretty reasonable price. The employees are also extremely helpful and knowledgeable and quite friendly. The interior is pretty large, clean, and bright with high ceilings which gives Woodstock Wine and Deli it's friendly and relaxing environment.

I come here often. There are standard sandwiches that are made to order with quite a few different types of bread to choose from. The Cheese bar, as well, has a good selection. Every time I have had a cake, I have really enjoyed it. The wine selection is great and ranges from $-$$$. If you have any questions, the staff would be happy to help out. Come on a Friday and enjoy a wine tasting. Most of the time it costs about $10.00.

I have recently started drinking wine (as opposed to liquor or beer) within the past few years. I was afraid to drink wine simply due to bumping into or having to converse with the stereotypical "wine snob." I know some people think they are connoisseurs of wine and that it is an art, but so is beer! And pastries... And then I discovered Woodstock Wine & Deli. Don't be fooled by the preppy-sweater-wearing and pashmina-draped clientele--they are barely noticeable once you have a few glasses! The staff behind the wine counter are very knowledgeable, not pretentious in any way (another reason I had been avoiding the wine scene), and don't belittle you for not knowing very much about wine. They stayed open late on this particular Friday, and they handed us a schedule of wine tastings on the way out. The tastings are usually only a $10 cover, which I think is totally reasonable. The space is open and with high ceilings, and even if you brought a large group there, you would still be able to hear one another talk (I hate that about going to busy restaurants--sometimes you can't even talk to the people you're sitting with because the place is too loud!). There is no corkage fee to buy and drink the wine there. I'm not sure how their sandwiches were (my friend ordered one and said it was good). Some other reviewers mentioned the slow service, but I thought my friend's sandwich arrived in good time. We also had cake afterward, and while the gal behind the counter was a bit clueless about the pairing of wine and cake, we just guessed and it ended up a decent pairing (lemon cake and a malbec). The cake was really good. Oh- and they also have beer (on tap and in bottles) and it doesn't seem like they'll scoff at you for wanting beer instead. Will totally return and probably often (since it is very close to my house).

HUGE wine selection. Great sandwhiches and a lot of events. Wine tasting every saturday afternoon. Music most Friday and Saturday nights. Case of the month for a special price. Its a little out of the city, but if you're having a party or wine tasting soon, totally worth the trip.

If you love wine and you hate pretense, this is your place. The wine guy is amazing. We love to stop in before we make dinner and describe the kind of experience we're looking for. Every time, the wine he matches has been wonderful and priced right. I would also recommend you try the wine tastings on Friday nights. Again, don't come here if you're looking for a "scene", but don't be surprised if they have live music. I suggest getting a cheese plate during the tasting. A gem of the neighborhood.

I love the Friday night wine tastings. They're informative and interesting. Plus, there's good wine. We go whenever we can. The summer BBQs are a blast, too. I actually haven't had much from the deli, except for some excellent cheese. The prices on wine are pretty good, with a variety of more budget-friendly wines up to some expensive stuff. My favorite part is when I'm looking for a gift or just a treat, I can just pick a bottle off the shelf with confidence that it will be good.

Ehhh, this place is OK. My husband and I are not wine drinkers so I cannot comment on that but I will say that they had a fairly large selection of wines there. We went in to quickly grab a sandwich and although the sandwiches were good the service was not that great. I also found the sandwiches a bit overpriced for what you got. I got the Vegetarian on wheat which came with the choice of two cheeses, avocado, olives, tomatoes, sprouts & lettuce. Now, I hate avocado with a passion so I asked for extra veggies. This seemed to annoy the sandwich maker although I am not quite sure why. I did like that they had a fairly large selection of breads and cheeses to choose from, that was cool. My sandwich was good but they seemed to skimp on the ingredients. I hate that, especially for a place that is called a 'deli.' I cannot for the life of me recall what my husband got but I do remember him saying that it was good. I will update the review after I ask him. They had a very small selection of salads but we were there at the end of the day so they may have had more of a selection at lunch time. I was also annoyed because the dude making our sandwiches didn't ask us if we wanted anything else and seemed pretty annoyed that we were there at the end up the day. Overall....fairly poor service, good sandwiches, and from the looks of it, a fairly large wine selection. 3.5 stars and if the service was better I would have gone up to four. Oh, there were lots of folks sitting around having wine, it seemed to be a popular place for that.

The service was BAD - I mean BAD, it took them maybe 5 - 7 min to make the sandwich (alright not bad at all mom & pop shop so OK fine happy to support the locals & I'm looking for quality so I'm happy to wait a reasonable time). Then it took me more than 10 MINUTES to pay for it - the dim witted girl making coffee & spending way too much time pulling up her way too low & too tights pants couldn't ring up my food & wait for coffee to brew, and I am SO NOT KIDDING. - Did ya know you need to watch the coffee to make sure it brews, I had no idea! Now the sandwich was just OK the soda was over priced ($1.25 for a 8 oz fountain soda claims to be 12 oz) The beer was good at a fair price. This place is miss-able - unless the wine selection makes up for all that how you ask ... by being filled with gold & the fountain of youth cuz who knows how long it would take to get the bottle opened WITH glasses.

I don't go here as much as I'd like, because It's a little on the spendy side, but the sandwiches are delicious. I can really take my time eating them. Fluffy bread and lots of fillings. really good. Everyone who works here is pleasant and its a good place to come when you wanna dine low-key. I don't know much about wine or care, but I'm sure wine enthusiasts would be pretty blown away by the selection. They have a pretty cute selection of drinks in the cooler to go along with the sandwiches too. I don't remember the interior being anything special, but something about this place makes it up there on my favorites list. yum!

Woodstock Wine and Deli is a good bet for finding something decent to eat in the Reed/Woodstock/Westmoreland area, and clearly they have plenty of wine and beer, too. In addition to a great variety of libations, they serve deli sandwiches, desserts and coffee. The quality of the deli is good, and I know some Westmoreland families who couldn't live without this place.

What can I say about Woodstock Wine & Deli? They make great sandwiches. They have a strong beer selection. They have a very good wine selection. They are a neighborhood staple. Check them out.

Love this place! The deli options are great for a light lunch or dinner and the wine options seem endless. I've been here just to have a quick bite to eat and for a wine tasting. Both times I had a great time. I know I can come here to get help picking a unique wine for a party or just learn something new about types of wines I've never tried. The Friday night tastings are great and the staff are always helpful and knowledgeable!

WWD is a Portland institution. It's been family owned and operated for over twenty years and counting. When you visit, chances are you're dealing with Greg, the owner, or his father (and although Nate is not family, he's awesome - knows his wine AND brews). If you drive by around the holidays and see someone standing on a ladder, stringing Christmas lights out front -- that's Greg. Greg has a real affinity for interesting, high quality, often hard-to-find wine, beer, cheese, pate, oysters and -- most recently -- barbeque (he's taken to entering his own barbeque in competions and been quite successful). I've been at tastings where, later in the evening, the discussion will hit on something that stirs Greg's memory and he'll disappear for 5 or 10 minutes, then return with an old dusty bottle of something he had hidden in back, waiting for just the right moment. I love that about this place. Greg has also been extremely loyal to Oregon wineries and craft breweries. You can see it by the products on the shelves, and the number of wine makers and brewers who show up at the WWD annual celebration each December. Is there room for improvement? Honestly, it may be time for a little remodeling (carpeting, restroom, etc.), it may be beneficial have a little supplemental training to ensure that some of the folks behind the sandwich counter are treating the customers right, it's definitely time to get the website sorted out and -- to me this is most important -- it's time to renew WWD's commitment to being one of Portland's go-to wine shops (I could be mistaken but the new release offerings don't seem to be quite as comprehensive as in years past). But I still give Woodstock Wine and Deli the highest rating Yelp allows -- FIVE STARS.

This place has an extensive wine selection, a decent beer selection, several sakes, a dessert counter and a fair number of tables for snacking from the deli. Why don't they have good cheeses? Their sandwiches are pretty average, although their meatloaf sandwich can be great. They usually have a soup and the chili, but both are decidedly average, meaning it tastes like it was canned. The dessert counter chocolates taste pretty ordinary; they should probably get a better chocolatier. The stuff they have in the deli window can be varied, but their potato salad is always there getting hairy. They do a lot of pasta salads for some reason, but maybe that's changed. Sometimes during the summer they bbq ribs outside, which is probably the best time to go. The ribs can be pretty delectable, but since they're not usually on the menu maybe they don't want to be known as a bbq joint, though they probably should put them on anyway. When it's sunny, it's not a bad place to have a bottle of wine and some nice cheese but wait, they don't have any premium cheeses. If this place had some good raw milk cheeses and better deli selections, they would've gotten 5 stars. Since they haven't realized that as extensive a wine selection as they've got, they need an equally extensive cheese selection, this place gets 3 stars for that and their mediocrity in other areas.
