what can i say, i work next door and for $5 i can get a tasty meal and drink! service is always very quick and sweet. all of the ingredients are fresh. double corn tortillas are a must. surprisingly, the chicken is my favorite (i'm more of a carnitas girl) the seasoning is great and it's never dry. and the salsas are great! don't forget cash only!

Well, their prices went up yet AGAIN. I went there today to find that the chicken burrito that I always order is now a whopping $8. Ridiculous. It's good, but it's still just a burrito. It used to be $5.50, then $6, then $7, and now $8. Nice going ownership, you greedy morons. I was willing to overlook the fact that (1) you don't take credit cards, and (2) your workers would oftentimes not ring in the order so you can keep down the gross income showing on your receipts (i.e., tax fraud). But with this latest greedy price increase, you just lost a loyal downtown regular customer. I'll be eating my Mexican lunches elsewhere; namely, Laughing Planet down at 17th and Jefferson. Great food with much more reasonable prices. And I'll be encouraging my colleagues here at work to do likewise.

So the little side shop to West Cafe now houses a taco shop along with their espresso machine. How awesome! The more burrito options near work, the better. The place is small, like 10-12 people small. If you're standing around getting food to go, good luck not being in the way. It's virtually impossible. The menu is typical. Burritos, tacos, enchiladas, tortas. Choose your protein--asada, pollo asado, carnitas, adovada, lengua, etc. Add a side of rice and beans or posole soup. They have typical Mexican drinks, beer included. Prices are a little higher than average--$6 burritos/enchiladas, $1.50 tacos. Every day they have a $10 special, none of which seemed worthy of your $10. Service is impeccably slow considering this is Mexican food. There is a dude working the kitchen along with the woman who takes your order. After she takes an order or two, she heads back to the kitchen to help cook. You will not see her again until those orders are done. This leads to frustrated people waiting in line to order food. It also leads to frustrated people waiting for to-go food who are about to miss a meeting. 15 minutes for a carne asada burrito seemed a little much. But it was a good burrito. Typical for Portland--rice, beans, pico de gallo, and some tender grilled beef. Cheese is extra, FYI. I didn't see any mention of avocado anywhere. Sad. If you get the burrito to go, they cut it in half for you. I love that. It makes burrito blowout a lot less likely. The green sauce is decent, but no real texture. The red sauce is similar in texture and tastes like straight up ground chilies. That's not my thing. I'll stick to the green sauce. The enchilada plate looked to be the shining star of the place. Several people had them, and they looked good. The posole portions were plentiful, too. Four-star food held back by the wait and the fact that they're switching to cash only on 3/21/11. Thankfully, I could still use my card. The digital age is being thwarted by all these cash-only businesses. It drives me insane. However, if I have cash in my pocket, you can bet your ass I'll be avoiding Steamers, Spicy Pickle, and Subway in favor of some enchiladas.

$3.50 for two really good tacos, and one with camarones even. They were packed up very nicely to go with lime wedges and a tiny cup each of red and green hot sauce. Excellent fresh corn tortillas that were not doubled, which is a thing - tortilla-doubling - I do not prefer. I was the only one in there at 1:30 on a Wednesday, and my order was ready in like four minutes. Pretty awesome.

Everything is delicious! They have Aguas Frescas for $1.25, and your average taco is $1.50 I love to stop by for a quick lunch anytime that I'm in the area. This is a cash only place so don't forget to stop at the ATM!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
