This was always one of my favorite places in Portland. Great Balkan food at good prices, and you can walk to the buckle arcade afterwards!

Hum... I've heard good things about 2 Bros... My family is Croatian and was excited to give it a try.. I see some high marks on Yelp, but I don't understand why. I was disappointed. I guess I was spoiled growing up because it was authentic and although I thought this was, it wasn't good....Maybe I hit it on a bad day?.....Maybe I'll give it another try..

Meat. Polish sausage. Chevapi. Pork loin. Chicken skewers. The first time my boyfriend and I came here, we couldn't decide what to get. Easy solution: we ordered the mixed meat platter. We could try everything, figure out the best one, and keep that in mind for next time. But when all was said and done (or, when all was consumed and enjoyed), there was still one problem: all of the meat was equally delicious. How could I choose just one next time? I've been to Two Brothers quite a number of times since then. Sometimes I'll just order one of the meats, but then I find myself craving the others as well. Sometimes I'll try the non-meat-specific items, which just aren't as good. Last night we ordered the mixed meat platter again, and suddenly everything was right with the world. Mmm. Meat.

I ate alone,so I was focused. The tomato soup was a solid memory of great home cooking. The corn bread was a nice touch. I was truly suprised by Sudzuka. It is a sausage that looks and taste like no other. Try this: step 1 a bite of sudzuka. Step 2 dip the wonderful thick pita bread into Ajvar( a red pepper/eggplant relish) and step 3 a sip of Croatian beer. The salad and fries were not needed. More of step one through three. The atmosphere was not as majestic as the Dalmatian Coast, but the service was good. It's been two weeks and I'm still thinkin' about the meal. Next time I want to " Balkan Up " I 'm at Two Brothers Cafe and Grill.

I went to "Two Brothers" a couple of times so far and I have to say that this place is amazing! They serve great Serbian/Croatian/Bosnian food. You must order chevapi! Or the mixed-grill plate so you get a little bit of everything... or order both just as we always do! :)

This place doesn't look like much from the outside but the food is amazing! Chevapi is my favorite thing to eat, but the soups and salads are wonderful too. All of the food is very tasty and authentic. We eat here at least once a month!

Went in for a late lunch on a whim & wow, the food here is incredible! The service takes a bit getting used to, we're spoiled & pampered on the west coast. Here eastern European hospitality is the name of the game. No unnecessary conversation, to us they seem rude, but they are just matter of fact people. I started a conversation with the owners about their food, asked origin questions & the ice was broken! There were smiles & good conversation. I highly recommend this place. The food rocks!

I've been craving Bosnian food ever since my sister's friend fed me some. So I was really excited to find that in my new neighborhood there was a Bosnian place close by. Granted I didn't really know what to order, I was hung over and really needed something nice in solid in my belly. Not too overpowering, but full of bread and meaty goodness. I ordered the spinach cream soup which sucked, it was pretty taste less and a bit too thick, I added salt and pepper but it was just blah. I really don't recommend it. The Chevapi was delicious, I mean how can you go wrong with sausage, and the best damned pita you can ever have? It's like a sausage burger/hotdog- but waaay better! The ''pita" is slightly chewy(in a great way), thicker than the norm and I'm sure warmed on a nice grill with a little olive oil or something- it was like crack. I was trying to stop myself from shoving my face too fast. I would go back just for the pita its that good.

Serbian/Bosnian food. Done quite well. As a veg I had the Bosnian Pitta, which is a big rolled philo pastry full of spinach & cheese rolled in to a spiral. The meat-eaters had (and raved about) the cavatapi. Salads were also large and good. Don't be in a hurry, though; service is Eastern-European paced.

Fresh, well prepared and clean. Plus I love their chevapi sausages.

This place is great. I went there for the first time tonight, and had the Bosnian Pita with beef. It was delicious! Our waitress said her favorite is the spinach and cheese one, so I'll be trying that next time. The baklava wasn't crispy like I like it, pretty soggy actually, but still very good. Looking forward to going back.

Came here during a visit to Portland. Just returned from a trip to Croatia where we got to sample the food of the Balkans. Gotta say this place is pretty good. Had the chevapi and it was authentic. The place is family-owned and very casual. Worth trying for something different.

I found this place online when I was looking for some food from home. This is the only Balkan food restaurant I could find in Portland area, and a pretty good one at that. I took 4 of my coworkers with me (3 American and a Bulgarian), and they all liked the food as well. We are all into meat, so it was a good choice for all of us. We ordered different dishes to share, and they were all very tasty, I could not pick the best one. I recommend cevapcici, pljeskavica (Serbian burger), and a mixed meat platter. The appetizers were also good. What really impressed me is the bread. I will definitely buy some next time to take home. The service was good too, very friendly and pleasant. The prices are decent for food which you can't get anywhere else, about $11-12 for plates, and $25 for the mixed meat platter, which is plenty for 2 people. I strongly recommend this place to anyone who likes to try new things. You will not go wrong.

Every time I drive past this place I think to myself, "I should eat there more often." Admittedly, the atmosphere isn't great being that it is in an old fast-food joint (I think it was a MacDonalds back in the day, it has those weird wood grain looking brown tile floors) and it is also at the intersection of two busy streets with a bus stop right outside the window but the food is really good. The stuffed peppers are quite good; taste and texture are excellent and the serving size is generous. I also like the pita but the small is more than give enough as the only vegetarian version is cheese and spinach with a lot more of the former than the latter. This isn't a place to eat if you're watching your waistline unless you like to see it expand. What's more, I feel this type of food is best suited to cold weather but it is great all the time. Last time I went I took my little sister who had just returned from three months in Prague and she said all the of the food was familiar but probably better than what she ate while in the Czech Republic and she attended a gourmet food festival. If you've been wondering about this place I encourage you to take the plunge, you'll probably enjoy yourself.

This place is the BOMB - its Bosnian / Croatian / Serbian - which is very Mediterranean - kind of like greek food but with all their own versions of things... delicious sausages and meat rolls, lots of veggie options, the BEST pita you've ever had, the pita is totally different from any Ive ever had, thick, chewy, charred, just delicious, I could have just eaten it plain, just fantastic. Nice selection of native beers. Family owned, delicious, reasonable, unique, highly recommended

Woah! Balkan food! I must try this! I ordered the half portion of goulash which was kind of expensive for $8. The lunch price is normally $12.50 and the dinner price is $13.50. It was okay and I liked they gave you brown rice when you asked for rice (you may also get mashed potatoes or french fries). The goulash was lukewarm and though savory, the beef was a little overcooked. I surprised the waitress though when I also ordered a chevapi (small portion) which was five little sausages in a fluffy thick pita. They also give you some onions, roasted red pepper paste and sour cream to add to the "sandwich." The roasted red pepper sauce reminded me of the jarred stuff I get from Trader Joe's. We stopped in this restaurant since they claimed to serve Balkan food though the decor didn't really seem "ethnic." They were nice though and the restaurant was very clean. Kind of of an upscale diner. I'd come back to try more things like the cabbage rolls or various soups.

Oh, Two Brothers, I hereby forgive you your offenses against the yeeps that have bitched about you. Whatever you did to them, the wonderous things you've supplied me with must by now far outweigh any wrongs you might have committed in the past. The beau and I live a close walk from this place and tend to have to go when one of us needs to scratch a deep-seated meaty itch. I usually like to start out with the spinach creme soup. Calling it soup might actually be doing it a disservice. This is a thick and creamy concoction with almost the consistency of risotto. It's very soothing and mild in that chicken noodle soup kind-of-way but has a much more interesting mouth feel. The rice in it is served as plump as can be, holding the maximum amount of cream and stock possible. It's a mere $3.50 and comes with a sizeable freebie piece of cornbread. Score. Pair that with a big ole (splittable!) super-light and super-refreshing Croatian beer and you're already well on your way. We generally like to keep things on the cheaps and split a large chevapi ($11). These are basically spicy hamburger-consistency yet sausage-shaped grilled little gems of meat. The large comes with ten of these little gems. You're instantly chevapi rich! They come served inside of this deliciously fluffy and fresh homemade bread that they refer to as pita but is actually a Serbian style flat bread called lepinja. And it totally kicks pita's ass. To dress this wonderful sandwich they provide sour cream, onions, and ajvar. Sweet, sweet ajvar (pronounced eye-ar), which is a blend of red bell pepper, eggplant, and garlic. The beau and I tend to have an almost-fight as we try to divide the condiments perfectly in half, cause neither of us are about to forfeit even the tiniest smidgeon of precious ajvar. It's greedy meaty greasy grilled goodness. Finishing up with some Turkish coffee, served in a fancy brass coffee set usually brings us back into the world of the living with a bang. Punctuate that with another freebie of rose-flavored Turkish delight and you'll leave the joint floating six inches off the ground. Sure the decor screams that it has no personality, but the food speaks volumes (and in the interesting language of Bosnian). Come on, don't get the goulash--branch out, be brave, and perhaps you'll find yourself rewarded with freebies.

I've been to Two Brothers several times, trying different things each time, and every visit is like finding a new comfort food I never knew existed. Most recently, the Balkan sandwich has taken over as my favorite. Sausages, tomato, cucumber, and a warm coleslaw-ish concoction in pita. The wonderful thing is that the sausages, coleslaw, and pita are all just a bit different from what you'll find anywhere else. Together, they make a great combination. The decor here is nothing special, but the food is something that seems like it should be bringing back memories of childhood. Imaging discovering mac & cheese if you had never had it (or heard of it) until middle age.... that's what I find at 2 Brothers.

If money grew on tree's, I'd suggest that two brothers would move to a new location and/or revamp their atmosphere. It might be the fact that the location is kind of off the grid as far as belmont terms go, or the fact that the atmosphere is just a little bit unwelcoming, too quiet, a hard place to have a conversation because everyone can hear you. Due to one or both of these factors, they don't seem to get that much business, at least, not according to the time I went there and the many times I've walked by. And, given the lack of business, the prices are all a little bit higher then I think they should be. It almost seems like their caught up in a resteraunt catch 22. So, with that being said, I IMPLORE you to go check this place out, the food is great. I got the sandwich that is photographed on the outside of the building, the meat almost had a nostalgic taste to it, it reminded me of my Grandmother's meatloaf, which I LOVED about it. Everything about that sandwich was amazing except the price tag. I can't wait to go try the goulosh.

I went there once and they refused to honor a promotion they were featuring. I'd overlook the experience as the food was adequate, but the owner was sitting a table away and was a jerk about it (refused to even address the issue). My server was very nice (but clearly embarrassed by the owner's stance on the situation). The issue could have been easily resolved but having me return as a customer was clearly not a priority. Business must be good! Booo!

People, what the ef? Why do you hate Two Brothers? Maybe it's because I grew up on this stuff, but I was more than satisfied with this place! By the time we got there I was starving...physically for food, and emotionally for home!:) We ordered the fish stew, the small order of chevapi, and the cabbage rolls...LOTS of leftovers!! I'm not gonna lie, I pigged out!!! The chevapi was very much like I remember them from back home, and I really liked the onions, sour cream, and red pepper sauce that came with it. And the "pita" bread was fluffy and soft and flavorful; definitely homemade! The cabbage rolls were delicious and filling! Back home they would be served with kraut, but here they had mashed potatoes, which my culinary palate feels were real, not flakes! And the sauce was delicious, just like home! The fish stew was thick, savory, and hearty, and came with some cornbread on the side. Tasted slightly of tomato paste, which I'm not a huge fan, but it was still tasty and the portion was very generous. I dunno, maybe I'm just unable to criticize the food of my heritage, but I have to say that I'm really happy that Two Brothers exists, and I'll definitely be back for more!

  • Kitt J.

This place fills a pretty unique niche in Portland, so I hate to say that I'm not a huge fan. The food was pretty good, and the service was just fine -- which puts it solidly in decent territory, if nothing else. However, it is a bit pricey, and I'm looking for a bit more than meat, bread and some garnish. The majority of the menu seems to revolve around this, so it's just not for me.

    (3)
  • Glen P.

The owner forces ridiculous process on patrons (have you ever been similarly harassed taking a leak?!?), beer (bottle only) is warm, and the food is" ho-hum" - and that is honestly being modest in my criticisms. Don't Go, you will regret it!

  • Caitlin W.

Pretty dang tasty. I live blocks away from Two Brothers and it took me five months to finally go try it. Somehow I just never new that i was craving Balkan food. Both of the dishes we tried out were great, and hearty portions. The ajvar, which seems to come with every meal, was tasty and the small child hiding in a cupboard was good entertainment (seriously. child in cupboard.) I'll definitely be back for more. I want to try out their vegetable dishes and am looking forward to some late-night ajvar and homemade pita.

Oh my meat lovers you have got to go here! I had never had goulash before and I am now a fan...also had a sausage dish call Cevepi...yum. The meat is very tender and well seasoned. I did not have but saw on the menu a meat lovers platter with a selection of at least four meats and a serving big enough for probably three for about 25$. I'm sure about beer and wine selections because I went for lunch...and well it wasn't that kinda of lunch, but I promise I will make it back and check out the Balkan wines!

I have to feel good that some time has passed since the first review of this place was written and when I went. I've been to this place twice and they seem to keep adjusting the tone of the restaurant as time passes. If the other two reviews that were written were any indication i think the cleanliness factor has been dealt with as well. It's in an odd corner location on 39th and Belmont and is just plain hard to turn in from the street, but they do have a small parking lot for drivers and are immediately on the bus line for non-drivers. Ambience, the lighting is dimmed and the tables have changed twice so i can't say that the next time i go back it won't be more cozy but my only complaint was that it was a little cold. Other than that, the building they took over has been so many things i have lost count. The last was a teriyaki bar. I know, i'm making excuses, but that's because I have a real affection for this place and i'm being a tiny bit defensive. OK, so the food. It's Balkan. Meat, sausage, sandwiches with fun thick bread and red pepper compotes. There is also Borscht and some other Balkan Faves. it's not flashy food, but it's tasty for what it is. Go looking to fill your plate with meat. The odd Czeck beer is actually light and refreshing. As for the coffee, it's quite good if you just get a standard espresso. i don't know about the rest of them, i didn't try. but if you don't like the price, ask what it is. You may be surprised. We don't have may (if any other) Balkan restaurants in Portland, so it's a learning experience for all for what to expect. My other half had one dish last time, the Goulash (yes, they have goulash) and it was a touch on the bland side, but not bad. Stick with the sausage based dishes, and you'll be happy. if you don' like sausage, well, try going down the street.

The food here is amazing. Awesome Serbian, Balkan, Bosnian dishes. The Bosnian sandwich is to die for. Come try the goulash. Mom and pop; very charming. Great service. This is the real deal!

  • LYNSEY L.

I highly recommend trying Two Brothers. The food is great and Balkan cuisine is hard to come by. Service and prices are good and the menu is quite large, not to mention there is always a great special to be had. They also offer a wide variety of eastern European beers, yay!

  • Lindsey W.

Reading those terrible/sarcastic reviews from 2007 one might hesitate at first to try this place. But I must recommend you to disregard those comments because I love this place. I have tried many of the dishes served and I have absolutely loved each and every one of them! The service is always friendly and prompt. The nutella crepes are amazing for dessert! Its pathetic when "reviewers" downrate a great place such as this just for a few laughs at their witty display of sarcasm and humor. :P

  • David S.

This place is absolutely delicious. The meat! Oh, the meat! It is exceedingly tender and tasty. We got the Mixed Grill which was a giant plate of fries, sausages, chops, and feta cheese salad. The sausages are amazing. There's a sandwich that's entirely made of them. Get that.

  • Chris P.

Truly homemade Bosnian/Croatian dishes. I could eat the burek for every meal. If you haven't been here, schedule some time to experience the warmth of the Mediterranean in the heart of Portland. Hvala!

  • Ethan D.

Ok odd as this may seem occasionally my wife and I crave cabbage rolls and Two Brothers ROCKS the Cabbage Roll. They rock a lot of other things too, but the CABBAGE ROLLS, man!!! YUM! Two Brothers would make a great alternative to Portland's onslaught on Lebanese restaurants. Baltic food is sort of like the love child of Mediterranean and Eastern European cuisines. You'll find stuff like, well, cabbage rolls beside, say, a gyro on the menu. The interior is definitely more "cafe" than "grill." It feels more like a place you'd have lunch at than dinner, if that makes sense. The prices aren't bad but they aren't necessarily great either. Expect to pay between $8-15 for your meal. Are there better restaurants out there? Yes, of course. Are there better BALTIC restaurants out there? Probably not! (I think this is the ONLY Baltic restaurant in town, in fact). If you're looking for something ethnic and different and VERY delicious, I'd highly recommend trying Two Brothers.

We picked the wrong night to dine here. We were going to Peacock Lane for some Christmas lights viewing actions and since Two Brothers is right by where we were going, we decided to tried it out. Well, apparently other people were thinking the same thing. The place was packed with families with their kiddos and because of that the service was slllloooww. The owner and servers seemed overwhelmed with how busy the place was. We shared the Creamy Spinach soup for appetizer and it wasn't good. It was really bland. I put more salt and pepper in it to make it better. I love the Black Stallion wine that I got. It was strong, but very smooth. We loved our entrees. My Chevapi was delicious. I love the sausage and everything tasted good. We spent about 1.5 hours just for dinner and for casual place, that was a long time. If we are coming back here, we are going to make sure that it's not during holiday season because dining with tons of kids around made us feel like we were at Chuckee Cheese.

Somehow we the only diners in this place on a recent warm Friday night. No matter, the food was delicious and freshly prepared. The cornbread appetizer - well, I could see myself just ordering that for takeout in the future. It was warm and salty-sweet, with honey and sour cream to slather all over it. I had two giant slabs before dinner came out! The greek salad was a nice second starter, with plenty of feta and salty olives. My husband had the chevapi - yes it's as good as other reviewers have said. And the pillowy, buttery pita bread was a nice surprise. I had the Polish sausage plate and everything was good there too - we both loved the red pepper relish. I was dipping my fries and everything else on the plate in it. Top it all off with an authentic Turkish coffee and you'll have a full happy belly too. I can't wait to go back and try some of their vegetarian options!

My fav food is the chevapi as they say in Willamette week the burgers of Bosnia. I also like the pita this place is awesome it is a great family place. Great service the waiter is very nice . They only have two workers but it is worth the wait the food is great . I will be back for sure . I would recommend this place if you don't go that is your lose

I used to stop in here every friday night on my way home. Sadly my schedule changed and I cannot do this anymore. Their special rolled apetizer was AMAZING. Sometimes I think about driving over anyways, but it's hard to get there before it's all gone with traffic. too bad.

The hubby and I stopped here after we had skipped lunch - we were ravenous - at about 2:00. Usually when we are very hungry, we try to stick with places we know, but I really was in the mood for something different. Boy did we come to the right place! We were in a little bit of a hurry, so we didn't have time for an appetizer or dessert, but what we did have was excellent. I had the Chevapi - little handmade sausages, made of (I think) beef and lamb. Oh dear FSM, it was soooo good. I ordered the small size, which came with delicious bread, 5 sausages, onions, sour cream, and a red pepper relish, whose name I have forgotten. If I'd known how good it was going to be, I probably would have gotten the large size (10 sausages). Hubby had the gyros - fresh sliced lamb, in a toasty pita with lettuce, tomato, shredded (yay) cucumbers and tzatziki sauce. He couldn't stop raving about how good it was. We will definitely be back!

  • Ashley S.

Chevapi is definitely worth trying. We order it every time, the flat bread that comes with it is delicious! They have a great cheese filled bread dish that is on special, it is amazing if they aren't sold out, since they have to make them in advance I can't remember what its called but the owner knows exactly what you're talking about if you try to explain it.

I researched some restaurants before going to Portland. This one had some great reviews.first time having this kind of food. We were not disappointed. The waiter was nice and explained the menu. We got the Mixed Grill. It was amazing. Plenty of food for two. The only down side was the small parking lot but it was not a huge issue.

  • Ahlam A.

Food was amazing and they have the best pita bread. I give it 5 stars because of the service especially. Waiter was really nice and the the food was worth it's price! I will definitely come back again!

I used to live in Serbia and have traveled throughout the Balkans, and was excited to see this restaurant and share it with some friends. It's been awhile, but thought the food was just as I remembered, and my friends, who'd never had anything similar, really enjoyed it. The ambience and service speed are pretty authentic too- it's not fast food, so don't go when you're in a rush. We particularly enjoyed the burek and the baklava.

    (5)
  • Kate R.

The service was good and the corn bread and pita bread were tasty. I may not be able to appreciate this food since I don't eat meat. They have vegetarian options, but they are limited. I would recommend the corn bread.

  • Melanie T.

What a disappointment. We wanted to go here for so long but just kept passing at 5. We finally had a chance to come in tonight and we're disappointed because we didn't see any baked goods. For some reason I thought that's what they would have. But everything was to be ordered from the menu

The food was delicious!! I had the 1/2 size goulash and the beef was so tender!! My partner in crime that night had the chevapi and it was so tasty!! The pita bread was fluffy, the red pepper sauce was great and the sausages had great spice!! I'm excited to go back for some cabbage rolls after reading the other reviews!

  • Gabe S.

Delicious Bosnian/Yugoslavian food!! The pita (stuffed phyllo dough, savoury) was good but could be crispier. The mixed grilled meats were phenomenal. Ask for the lepinye bread (excellent, homemade) rather than pogacha (that comes with it and is "only" very very good). Their Baklava is literally to DIE FOR. Homemade deliciousness that reminded me of the one my poor grandma from Sarajevo used to make. Then the turkish coffee is also very good served the traditional Bosnian way. I will be back many times with lots of friends! The wine and beer selection (from the former Yugoslavia) was also very good. Service was family style...flawless

Terrible service. Waited patient for close to 15 minutes to only have menus handed to us. A couple walked in ten minutes after we had already been sitting there and were already given menus and even asked what they wanted to drink. WHAT?! It's not like we couldn't be seen, there were very few tables and a small dinner crowd. SMALL. We ended up walking out after a total of 20 minutes without being helped.

Fyi: Parking in neighborhood was extremely easy. Our dinner was wonderful! Had very delicious dinner of the meat combo platter, greek salad and baklava with turkish coffee. Platter comes with a small salad but hey, we like our greens. Meats were great and well cooked, salad was very fresh and the baklava was amazing. I normally hate baklava but this type is steeped throughout with a moist honey liquid and bothchopped and ground walnuts. Perfect with coffee. Ask to purchase pita bread to take home. Doesn't come with the dinner we bought but it was seriously one of the best pitas I have ever had. I say buy more and have for home use! These people are obvious pita wizards.

  • Paige L.

Because this is the only place like this that I know of in town, I give it a 3 out of 5. Service was okay, and the gyro was a little better than I expected. They have the most amazing pita bread! I could eat it all day. Not so much for the roasted red pepper salad, though. A little different than I wanted. Overall, it's about average for me.

  • Ash V.

The food is amazing. You can't go wrong here, anything you order will not disappoint! Lots of veggie options and meat dishes. The owners are friendly and sweet as well, everything is cooked with love, and reasonably priced. One of portland's best restaurants!!

  • B. C.

I will not claim to have any experience with this cuisine. My friend knew what she was doing when she was ordering and said that the food was good. I personally thought the food was overpriced for what they served, but then again, I do not know much about the food and what all goes into its preparation. FYI: It's a tricky place to park, being at the corner of Cesar Chavez and Hawthorne.

  • Matthew T.

Been twice and both times left very full and very happy. I tried the Chevapi and the burek, which was the special at the time. Both dishes were extremely delicious and obviously home made. Next time I would like to try the goulash and the turkish coffee. I have no idea why this place is not packed full of patrons. The food is excellent, home made, and reasonably priced. Check it out, you don't have to eat out of a cart all the time Portland.

Two Brothers is an excellent Balkan cafe. The food here is delicious and every time my wife and I want a taste of home (she's Croatian and I lived there for 3 years) we make the drive from Vancouver. The cevapcici are excellent and the lepinje (the bread) is out of this world. My wife loves the sarma (cabbage rolls) and the baklava is a delicious dessert. I highly recommend this place to anyone curious about Balkan foods. Though it might be helpful to have someone with you that has some experience with it to help explain things, anyone with a sense of culinary adventure will find this place a welcome treat.

Two Brothers is a corner restaurant on SE Belmont. After reading the reviews, I decided to start with the tomato soup, and shared a meat plate with my beau. The meat was great. The bread was kind of disappointing. The ambiance...well, there wasn't any. But the gal who was managing the floor was kind of like being served by family, which was homey and nice. She was a little terse but with a good sense of humor. The soup was not as amazing as I had expected it to be based on reviews, but eh, we all have different palates. Net: I wouldn't drive across town for this. If I lived near it, I'd go back from time to time. Intriguing menu, lots of options that held appeal.

I have visited Bosnia twice and grew to love chevapi while I was there, so I was anxious to try out Two Brothers and see if there was any comparison. The good news: the sausages and bread were delicious and tasted very similar to what I had in Bosnia. The bad news: no kajmak! The lady serving us was pleasant enough, though not particularly friendly. A group of Serbo-Croatian speakers came in about 10 minutes after we'd arrived and she greeted them much more enthusiastically than she had us, but I suppose that's understandable. She was quick to refill our water cups so major bonus points for that. Overall the ambiance was a little bleh. It was quite dark (my friend and I weren't even sure if it was open at first when we drove past) and the interior decoration is nothing special, making it an ideal stop for a casual lunch though certainly not a nice dinner date. But a tasty plate of chevapi sausages and some delightful ajvar was more than enough to ensure another visit from me again in the future.

Excellent food, very authentic. Feels like you're in eastern Europe... transported right there. If you don't know what Bosnian food is, don't post a negative review on Yelp. Grow up, ask questions, find out what you're eating first before you just post a nasty review. I don't work for this restaurant nor do I know the people. I'm just sick and tired of people putting negative reviews on Yelp because they heard someone banging trash cans. Can't believe some of the stupid things people post. Yelp really needs to have better guidelines because this restaurant deserves good reviews.

Just got home from the Balkans this food took me right back!! Very authentic and delicious. Important to note the bread served with the chevapi is house made and perfect! Crisp crust, fluffy airy center, fantastic!

Absolutely authentic Bosnian food!! I lived in Bosnia for two years and I can tell you if you want a taste of authentic Sarajevo - style cevapi (rolled meat spiced hamburger sausages) with homemade pita (puffy flat bread rounds), and pita filled with meat or spinach or cheese are totally authentic. I love it, crave it like comfort food. We've tried other items too such as the goulash but I keep coming back to the cevapi!! Finish with a nice Bosnian coffee (don't drink the coffee grounds at the bottom)!

Karolovochka, Lasko, and other Serbian/Bosnian/Croatian beers? Why yes, thank you very much. If you eat one thing, be sure to get the Chevapi. It has tender little tasty sausages with a great pan fried bread, pepper sauce, sour cream and onion. Excellent sandwich fixins that kept me full for a very long time. Typically I only get these at the annual Polish festival, but am happy to know that I can get them here as well. I will definitely be back.

Really good chevapcici! Wish the bread was a little softer, but it was Sarajevo version of it. Ajvar and kajmak (sour cream) make it taste even better. Don't expect great service, just great food, but who cares...at least the server wasn't rude-just nice enough. Will definitely come again, because it so hard to find Bosnian food (what I grew up with) around here!

Don't be dissuaded by the unfortunate location on an isolated corner - the interior is very friendly, and the food delicious! I shared a meat plate with a friend and got a few beers. I can't quite remember what the amazing tomato-y chutney was made of or called, but it was incredible. The meats were greasy but that's really what we wanted. Great for a casual dinner with a friend, but nothing fancier than that.

I was really hopeful. Came in with little expectations because I wanted to love the place. I LOVE Balkan and Mediterranean so I was really excited about finding "The place" The food was awful and the service truly unprofessional.

Went here on the way to see the great Christmas lights on Peacock lane. I was a little concerned because I thought it might be too crowed as it is rated a 4 star restaurant. Well..... It was half full....whew... But we found out that half full is more than they can handle. I think we waited 10-15 min to take our order, then about 30+ minutes to get our food. Now that would be ok if the food is wow...but it was not. We had the spinach special and one of the sausage plates. The spinach was not that tasty and a little limp (it was like a philo pastry). A good filler but .... The sausages are good. Hey... I never met a sausage that I did not like. But I think for a 4 star place it should be great. And it was not. To top that off there were two families with little kids running around, screaming, and crying, like they just finished eating a bunch of candy. It was just hard to have a good meal there. We decided that with all the great places in Portland that we will not go back

I've been a couple times now and can say it is solid. We got a chevapi (little sausages) plate to share the first time and some Croatian beers. Ajvar is the best! The beers were nice crisp lagers, and different from the usual. I also went with my dad and others, and it was a good amount of good food for a good price. We had the mixed grill which was all great, the soups also good, and the waitress recommended a nice bottle of Balkan wine. We will be back. Reminds me I gotta get my friend Dan in there.

I had amaaaaaaaaaaaaaazing tomato soup there. I crave it all the time. And that stuff youre supposed to dip your fries into, is so good. It makes my mouth water just thinking about it. I love that place.

I really love this place! Be patient with the service, there is often only one or two people manning the shop. However, the food is worth the wait. Be sure to try a Balkan wine or beer with your meal, and a little Turkish coffee served on a beautiful copper tray. I love the chevapi, and there are some solid vegetarian choices as well.

It was just that good. I had a simple sausage dish with the homemade flatbread and it was just that good. How good? So good that the only words I have are that it was just that good. I always love it when i get to try new food and so I enjoyed the unusual spicy of the sausage, but was really impressed by the imported Croatian version of coke...I can't remember what it was called exactly, something like cokora. What was probably best about that were it was caffeine free and high fructose corn syrup free. Anyway, I would say just go! Lovely staff/owners, nice atmosphere, great smells, quiet, cosy, clean bathrooms, and CHEAP!
