Have to have the tatter torts with cheese sour cream and bacon also try the Pirate Bill rum drink. We are not regulars we go every couple of weeks but the wait staff is cool they act like they remember us whenever we come in

My band and I played here last month and the bartenders working that night were so incredibly nice. They were all so friendly, it was great. I was also very impressed by the cleanliness of their bathrooms.

I've never been here at night, but for the morning & afternoon I LOVE this place. It feels like a secret, which also adds to the allure. The best part about it: awesome and cheap bloody marys- they make their own mix and they are strong and delicious. Breakfasts are pretty standard but tasty, and they have veggie sausage, which surprised me. The servers have a ton of personality and aren't afraid to talk to you. This place isn't fancy, but it's fun.

It figures that the one establishment I really, really need to drink at wouldn't even serve me. If you had gazed upon the band with the lead singer who, as Randy might parrot, had major pitchy problems going on, you would have required a hoppy cold beverage or five. If you had gazed upon the band in the bizarre live show set-up, which situates the performance on one end of a checkered hall eerily reminiscent of The Shining with the audience on the end of the hall - and inside the hall shall no one stand - you would have been perplexed and needed a beer to wrap your head around the strangeness. If you had stepped outside to behold the night traffic on Powell, you would have ducked inside and headed straight for the bar. But if you happen to be me, you'd be treated not to beer but to a long, increasingly irritating wait where not one but two bartenders continuously pass you over and serve other people without so much as a nod or an exchange of eyes. Did I do something wrong? Maybe I should have waved my arms around, hollered, "Serve me damnit!" and then had a seizure? I could try again. Or I could go to a bar that actually provides me with libations. I think I'll do that.

Nice pub. funny layout, though it works. Came here to see some live music and had a blast! I didn't try the food nor did i see it. It seems like it would be a great place for a cheap breakfast. i'll be back

Close to where I live, its a great place for a hangover cure! A little dissapointed they changed their menu due to New owners, but the food was good as well as the drinks. I've always had a good experience and will continue to go!

Ordered the "Hay Stack", it was a pile of breakfast comforts that was huge. Multiple layers of breakfast favorites. Starting with a layer of fresh baked biscuits, then crispy hash browns, then sausage gravy, then a blend of shredded cheese, then a piece of thick chicken fried stake, then scrambled eggs, then more sausage gravy, and finally topped off with more shredded cheese blend. Added Tabasco to taste and accompanied by a cup of coffee. Either I was hungry or it was just damn good I don't know. I was able to tackle half of it before I had to toss in the towel. All in all, if your in the neighborhood and looking for a good big breakfast for the buck I would recommend it. Nap time!

One of the best new venues in PDX! The food is exceptional, service is outstanding and the "vibe" is so genuine it feels like home almost immediately! The shows seem to get better and better! The sound guy rocks! The Promoter finds awesome local and touring bands. And the prices are crazy affordable! It all makes perfect sense when you learn that the guys behind this spot are the same ones that own Gils Speakeasy on SE Taylor! Check it out you won't be disappointed! While you are there, try the 50/50 burger; 50% organic beef, 50% ground bacon, tilamook cheddar, fried egg, lettuce, pickles, tomato and their house sauce. Damn!! Amazing!

I was previously unfamiliar with the Twilight Cafe and Bar, and not sure what to expect when I went to meet up with some friends for charity night drinks. Turns out I felt completely at home here. Comfortable booths, lots of open space, a nice stage, and some good looking bar food on the menu. Tater tots. TVs showing the Blazer game AND "not the Blazer game," off-street parking and clean restrooms too, hooray! I will come back again to check out one of the shows--punk, hard rock and metal looks to be this venue's specialty--and hope to update this review after spending a little more time there. Kudos to these folks for hosting events that give back to the community.

This place used to be fun. Then it sucked for a while. Now it doesn't suck again and everything's ok. You should go there. The bartender will hook you right up.

Sitting at a barbecue deep in Milwaukie, my friend asks "Want to go for a drink before heading home? There's a place right by your house I've been wanting to check out". That place was the Twilight Cafe. I've lived down the street from the Twilight for 12 or 13 years and always wanted to drop in but never had anyone with me who was interested so tonight was my opportunity. Once inside and seated at the bar, we got to chatting up the bartender, who also happens to be one of the new owners. He told us about removing the low diner counter to make for a much nicer bar. Thy were also in the promise of making a few other aesthetic changes. He said the previous owner had discontinued breakfast - which the diner was known for - so they were in the process of bringing it back. He had me at "Breakfast"; my favorite meal of the day. He also said they make a mean burger and Reuben sandwich. We'd already eaten, so I was going to take his word for it, because the fryer smells coming from the kitchen sounded scrumptious. They also had a DJ, who was taking requests and played us some 80's tunes while we had our cocktails. All in all, it is a work in progress for them to get it back into the lively place it once was - but I have every confidence these new guys can do it because of the great service we received. I'll be back as soon as breakfast is added to the menu - which I'm told should be within the next month.

The Twilight Cafe is a bit difficult to find but once you get there, it's worth the effort. Two friends and I came here last month to catch a show featuring FOUR bands and NO cover. The bartenders are attentive and quick. The stage view is a bit obscured if you're sitting at the bar so get there early if you want a booth. We will be back next week for another show and the stellar staff!

Twilight recently changed to new ownership and management and is great now. Bartender is a cool and professional dude who's dedicated a lot of time and energy into sprucing the place up, making the live music/stage area of the bar nicer and making the place welcoming to both regulars and newcomers alike. They have a great selection of beers on tap, jello shots (always a fav of mine), a good but simple selection of food on the menu, and a bunch of big TVs to watch the Blazer games. Overall the place is really rockin now and should definitely be checked out if you haven't been in there in awhile. They also brought back pinball machines, which is a super plus for me and they have a pool table. Very cool place overall.

If your breakfast consists of cheap bloody maries, then this place is for you. If your breakfast is something huge, never mind the quality of the ingredients and the flavor, again this place is for you. If your breakfast requires heaping sides of that horrible misogynistic 80's cock rock music, then I don't even know why you're still at home reading this. But, if you like your eggs to taste like eggs, potatoes to taste like potatoes and have that nice slight crisp to them, and the stuff in or alongside the eggs to be flavorful and not taste like it fell out the back of an Food Services of America truck en route to an army barracks, steer clear.

Best post-drunk-pre-hangover Breakfast ever. Who orders a 6 egg omelette? I'd like to meet the man who has finished one.

Used to live nearby, would stop in for some breakfast but I started dating a non-smoker and the place was a smoke-pit! Years went by and I got a job where this place was the halfway point on my afternoon nightmare commute, so I'd stop in, but the place was different and the food was the worst. Some time went by and I hear a cool bartender I'd enjoyed being served by at The Speakeasy had taken over and made some changes. Change is good. (end story time) A lot has changed for the Twilight, as anyone who comes around every now and then might have noticed. The bar was moved to the venue area and now it's back but not so inexplicably shaped, and the checkered linoleum is a more spartan, bare cement look. With the new management has come a new commitment to good shows and good bar food, which is why I'm here. Dang that food got good. Breakfast isn't back on the menu yet, though I hear that is in the works. Until then, there's other fantastic diner fare, like a burger that has bacon ground into it, very good hot wings, a heart-attack-alicious gravy/fries combination, and a good reuben. Actually, it's the best damn reuben you might find for 6 bucks considering how consistently tender that meat is. So often a dive bar reuben is going to have tough or dry meat, but not here. And getting it with the fries for an additional dollar makes it definitely filling enough for 2 regular sized people. Oh yeah, and the fries are good. Good place to watch The Walking Dead on Sundays, too. Overall, this is a great place for some cheap drinks, free pool, a couple games of pinball, good juke box, inexpensive food, and a blazer game. Seems the old management got this place a damn bad rep, so enjoy being the first to know about this open secret while you can.

FREE billiards! Went to listen to a friend play a set...in a skinny alley of a venue. The bartender was friendly.

As this is quite far away from the part of town i live in i have only been on occasions that my boyfriend's band is playing there. They seem to host live music shows at least once a week. It is a really wide, strange selection of music. Genre-wise the acts that play here usually fit loosely within the confines of "rock" (and blues/blues rock) but it is kind of a crapshoot...sometimes the bands are great but i have also heard some really terrible music here, too. This is definitely an odd place...it is kind of a sketchy dive with some weird neighborhood regulars and the food ain't great either...but i have a real soft spot in my heart for this place! The owner and the bartenders are some of the friendliest people you will ever meet. Their service is usually pretty great, not always spot-on perfect, but they are really kind and if you ask nicely for something they usually go out of their way to make it for you. They really are total sweethearts. The main male bartender is my favorite, he is usually dressed a little like a biker, but don't let looks deceive, he is one of the friendliest bartenders you will ever meet. He is super prompt and makes his mixed drinks strong...on the one occasion he forgot about me he was super sweet and gave me a couple of free PBRs to make up for it. While the food isn't exciting the PEOPLE really make this place for me...that and the cheap strong drinks. What i love about the employees here is how much they seem to appreciate the musicians who play here...in a city unfortunately rife with awful "pay to play" venues they were one of the first places to PAY my BF's band (albeit a small amount). They were so enthusiastic about his music that they asked for a sticker to put up on their wall! I noticed a couple of other stickers from local bands up too, but not a huge amount. This is a great place to try to book a show at if you are a Portland band just starting out. Their sound board isn't super great, and the acoustics in the space are a little wonky, but it is a really friendly environment due to the bunch of people running it.

New owner = new food, they got rid of everything we loved about twilight, the new food is not bad but they took many breakfast items away. Including the haystack and their Mexican inspired items and hash browns. It was very clear that no one was happy about this. In addition, they don't carry aardvark anymore. I do not understand who this new owner thinks he/she is is, Twilight was a place where regulars went with particular expectations. It is not a place you go for groumet cooking, it WAS just a small dive with secret breakfast and no lines.

Having been back to this place several times since- at first I admit somewhat kicking and screaming - I am convinced that the horrible experience I had was somewhat of a fluke. I am changing my rating because I have to say that since that ire-inspiring night I have had only positive interactions with every single person who works here. The service might not be spectacular, but the personalities are - so Twilight I apologize for my haste in judging you. And your jello shots aren't bad at all.

It was hard to get a good read on this place. We went for a music show on a weeknight, and on the one hand it was cute, the bartender was really nice, and it was fun to see the band in such an intimate setting. On the other hand, it was in kind of a sketchy place, it was hard to locate the bartender most of the time, and it was pretty worn down. Overall we had a nice time though. It seems like a good place for late night food.

Sometimes having the bad ass stache is a good thing... There are certain places where the more mature and "dangerous" look evokes a better reception then my previous clean shaven, hair spiked boy band look. And this was certainly one of them. Trying to escape the sweltering August heat on a Friday after work, the TLB and I met up with Lizzie for a quick beer and dialog. The Twilight provided a good in-between meeting place, and most importantly provided the cool soothing fingers of air conditioning. Something the Muddy Rudder didn't, which is why left our new favorite diggs. For my tastes, the Twilight would be considered a dive bar, which isn't a bad thing at all. Complete with smokey atmosphere, a "butter" bartender and an interesting collection of regulars sporting plenty of tattoos, greasy hair and attitude. No Portensious hipsters here, which is a nice change of pace from some of the other Portland bars we frequent. Since we were just here for a quick brew (somewhat limited selection), I can't speak to the quality or selection of food. From our limited time here, my guess would be that the Twilight would have all the required necessities of a next morning, hangover busting, breakfast establishment.

Saturday morning. We're only one of two tables. Drunk (tweeking?) guy at bar dancing for us and randomly yelling at us: "There's pingpong!" "I'm playing shuffle board on the counter!" "Do you have a nickle?!" I think the waitress was dating him, she didn't seem to want to stop him. I finally had to ask him to leave us alone and then we had to listen to him talk crap about us with the waitress. Coffee tasted like burnt popcorn. My "scramble" consisted of a pile of veggies under a sheet of flat egg. You know, like the flat egg they serve you at burger king? My husband had some chicken fried steak that was coated in fish batter and fried. It tasted like fish :-( Although we have never done this before, we told the waitress we were leaving. She threw up her hands and said "whatever! Have a nice day" in a snide voice. My husband told me I was never allowed to pick out another restaurant again.
