When Danni D said the southeast gang would be at the Richmond my first thought was Streets of Fire. Fortunately no sledgehammer duels broke out while we were here. It's a cool bar. Apparently some fancy sausage guys have some involvement. Whatevs. The menu is definitely on the fancy pants nonsense side but there's some stuff for regular people to eat, too. The lamb hand pie gets my enthusiastic recommendation, although someone had to save me from those freaky pickled vegetable things. I couldn't even tell what they were. More good news, the french fries aren't really shoestring. They're thicker than that and pretty dang good. The staff seemed cool. They were willing to venture out from behind to bar and not just to recover glassware. There's a helpfully illuminated sign over one side of the bar that indicates you should order there, so don't mob the length of the spot hoping the bartenders see you.

Went here to have some drinks and appetizers while waiting for our table at Pok Pok and was equally impressed with the food and drinks we got here as we were with what we had at Pok Pok. The venison hand pocket was spectacular. If you could turn love into a physical ingredient and bake it, I'm pretty sure it would taste like the crust on that hand pocket. Maybe the sample size of what I've tried is too small to give this place five stars, but I don't give a shit. When someone can make a crust that good, the rest is bound to be good.

Besides it being extremely dark inside, it was a pretty cool little joint. My friends ordered salads; the classic wedge (with ranch instead of bleu cheese) and the London Carpachio. I just got a beer that was on special. It wasn't crowded, but I can see that it could become so on a weekend night. Regardless, the service was good and we enjoyed our time here. This place is pretty non-descript, but there's something very cool about it. I'm just thrilled that my neighborhood has been revamped and places like this have popped up. Friends from Beaverton now drive to my side of town to check out places like the Richmond Bar because they're sick of chains.

staring into my cider wondering how my night could get any better. I am front row d street and the sound system in here is great too. visual and audio- check! while they are playing predictable pop music, it only heightens the paradox that is presented with the vintage feel this place sports. a great place to take your date.

Crafty cocktails and delicious snacks. I'd kill some time here again and twice on Tuesday!

What a horrible bar. The staff is incredibly rude and inept at adequately managing the bar. The food was awful and whomever thought the flavor palette of the olive tapenade was good needs to get their brain checked. The bread provided with it could have broken teeth off it was so hard. I will never ever return. Waste of money and time.

Came here during happy hour and drinks were only around 6/7$. Got the Miss Mary- it was sweet and slightly sour but very refreshing. My friends' drinks were also yummy, and the presentation was also nice. Good place to hang out while waiting for the Pok Pok line!

Small venue. My drink was decent, but everything felt a bit over priced for a small SE bar where you have to order at the bar. Our food we had was good and the drink was good, but just felt like it was priced for a different scene. With all that said, if that's not an issue to you, you won't be disappointed with flavor!

Drank some whisky in a cozy corner leather booth on a rainy night. I like the wallpaper too. The drinks were really good. I'd come back.

Excellent food. Had the blue cheese toast and a kale salad. Also had the vegetable pie which was heavenly.. Have to order at bar when going though, we stood around like dummies for a bit but that was okay.

I feel like I'm writing this review just to spite my friends, but I really was impressed. Sure, it was absolutely hell getting there and finding a place to park (I'm not a SE Portland resident/enthusiast), but I forgot all about that once I sat down. Even the strong hipster vibe couldn't turn me off of this place. The staff here seemed genuinely friendly and wanting to help. They were patient, which is something that is very uncommon at this type of place. The food was equally great. I had a hard time narrowing down what I was going to eat between the fries, the chop salad, the garlic cheeseburger, one of the handpies . . . all I could get myself to take off that list was the garlic cheeseburger, and I want to go back for it. Sure, it wasn't perfect, but it was really good. Oh, the drinks I had were great, as well. The food came out really fast. We left five minutes too late, right after the mob of drunk St. Patrick's Day scavenger hunt partiers came in, but not even that could ruin the experience. If I lived near here, I'd make this a regular place to unwind after work.

They make some tasty drinks here and have AMAZING mac and cheese. I came here for happy hour before dinner and ended up eating too much to be able to go to dinner afterwards. It was totally worth it!

I stumbled into the Richmond with two friends from SF recently. We were waiting for my boyfriend and a friend to finish up record shopping (what a silly thing to say, but I tend to say this much more often that I ever would have imagined in my youth.) It was never our intent to stay for very long, maybe just have a drink and a quick bite to tide us over on the way to anywhere else on Division. Somehow, much to our chagrin, we ended up spending SEVERAL hours drinking, dining, and enjoying ourselves immensely. The details of the night are perhaps a bit fuzzy, but many beers, wines and cocktails were consumed. Several couples joined us over the course of the evening. The food was great-- the mac and cheese, which everyone in this town does with varying degrees of success, was really tasty. The prices didn't seem extravagant, and the vibe was unpretentious. I felt a bit like I was stepping into a bar that could have been used as a stage for the Shining, but I like that about Portland. I would stop by the Richmond anytime.

My experience wasn't bad, it was just meh. I went with two friends and we ordered some beers and food. The beer list is meh. Nothing spectacular. We got some fries - meh. I didn't like the ketchup at all. We also got the lamb meatballs, served with lentils and curry cream. The lentils were cooked to death, the lamb was edible, but not good and the curry cream had too much curry powder. The bartender seemed nice enough and the atmosphere was fine. But again, just meh.

Location: Right next to a thai restaurant, a sex shop, and pok pok the best thai restaurant in the U.S. (lol) Customer Service: Walked right in straight to the bar and the bartendar didn't ignore us despite the busy atmosphere. Warm welcoming and ready to make our drinks. Decor: At night it was very dim inside but the ambiance they have is a more intimate sociable setting which is nice. They also have outdoor seatting (picnic table style seating) Presentation of Food: -drinks How did the food taste?: We just got a brews and I got a bourboun cocktail which was quite tasty actually. Overall Experience: If they had something like this in the bay area I wouldn't mind going to grab drinks and eat small dinners here. It has a good vibe to it! Would I Come Back?: When in Portland and waiting for my name to be called at Pok Pok this is the go to place to drink and wait!

Heard about this place from an Instagramer. It went on my list and went last night. Picked up our son from The Monaco after work and headed over to Division about 11pm. Walked in and the place was empty but my son reminded me how late it was on a Wednesday night. However, as we sat, others walked in for beer, etc. We ordered beers and a burger along with some Mac n Chz and all of it was pretty delicious! I loved the atmosphere and those of you that read me know that that is a big deal to me. How I feel when I walk in to a place is as important to me as the how the food tastes. It's about the whole package and if you are looking for a little bar with some great vibes, a bit historic and cool and some pretty dang good food and drink, Richmond Bar will be that place you need to check out. I recommend The Richmond Bar on Division. Take your friends and visitors to Portland. Everyone will really love it.

I can rarely be convinced to drink mezcal any way other than neat (maybe following a leisurely eaten slice of orange sprinkled with Tajín seasoning to get the salivary glands pumping and with a side of some roasted habas or pepitas to munch on), but I can honestly admit the Richmond Bar makes the absolute best cocktail using mezcal I've ever put past my lips: the 'Sassafras.' It stays honest and true to the soul of the spirit, enhancing (rather than stifling) the smokey earth and cactus flavor of one of my favorite alcohols. A must try for anyone looking for a unique cocktail on SE Division. Not to be missed by any mezcal lover. Beyond that, the bar itself is great, with a friendly and knowledgeable staff, a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere, it's classic/classy and has a weight of timelessness about it, but not pretentious, and a fantastic menu (personal favorites include the burger, the kale/turnip/roast-beef salad, and veggie hand-pie)... pretty much everything a great bar is supposed to be. Oh... did I mention it also has a back patio with plenty of both shaded and sunny seats? (No. I didn't mention that, because I can read my own review.) Well, it does. It also has a cozy fire pit to hang out around, relaxing while sipping on fine cocktails or tasty beer. I also noticed ample heat lamps for when the weather is cooler. The Richmond is also *the* place to come and have a drink while you begin your long wait to be seated for dinner at Pok Pok across the street. The Richmond nails it. Maybe the best bar in Portland if not the entire country. An easy five star rating.

How does a pork cheek hand pie sound right about now? Sounds deeeeeelicious to me. I had one last night and it has awakened my appetite for more manna from this place. Washed it down with one of their rotating beers on tap. So, I guess this review is only about the pork cheek hand pies (which comes with an excellent side of pickled vegetables BTW), but let me tell you the trip over there is worth it for this alone.

Came here recently with a group on a Saturday night for a bachelorette party. This was our first stop of the night and we were having fun but were not being rowdy. The bartenders were rude to us immediately and without warrant. At one point, a girl in our group ordered shots for the group from the male bartender and he actually responded with an angry "Seriously?? You want TEN shots??" When he finished making them, he put them on the opposite side of the bar from where she had ordered them (and was still standing) & then acted totally put out when she asked that they be brought over. Yeah...we left soon after and will probably not be returning.

I went in here thinking about cocktails, hot toddies specifically. I WAS NOT disappointed. I asked if they could do me a pear brandy hot toddy and they did it right! I went back 2 wks later for the same drink, 2 this time. Absolutely delicious and so is there menu. I ordered the fish sandwich as well as the veggie sandwich; both were great. The house made chips and pickles are good too...I wish both of these came in a larger portion. The vibe is SE urban elegance. I upgraded the rating to 4 stars after my delicious evening there during snowpocalypse

In a town and neighborhood overcrowded with gastrobars, it takes a lot to stand out. This lace definitely does. Cozy, dimly-lit intimate atmosphere, attractive and knowledgeable bar staff, solid draft selection, and the food is good. I think the Sassafras may just be the best cocktail that I have ever had, certainly in the top 3. This place rocks for dinner, happy hour, or a late night snack.

The Richmond Bar replaces the Matchbox. They graciously hosted a Portland Cocktail Festival event. Richmond is there with upgraded but reasonably priced food and a well curated regional tap list + one from Germany. Richmond has a full bar and a great individualistic craft cocktail list. Although the odd front door is still there, imagining Spain, the inside is clean and comfortable. Several picnic tables outside on Division and 32nd. Richmond is a great authentic neighborhood hangout!

I would not define this place as a "hipster" bar by any means. If anything it's on the classier end of most Portland bars I've been to. Friendly bartenders, Sarah, among others. I also love that the music is played at a reasonable volume, you can actually hear yourself talk. I give it four stars simply because of how truly tiny it is, and the lack of reasonably priced drinks.

This is a nice little bar in my hood and I enjoy stopping in occasionally for a hand pie and margarita. Their hand pies are the best imaginable. Really delicious and served with the right condiments. I always get the butternut squash flavor. I don't hang out in bars, as a general rule, and I don't drink much, so I'm coming from this perspective. The drinks are good, expertly crafted, yet on the small side, which sucks, considering their price. The other day, I went into the bar and asked for a double margarita. I was told by the bartender that they didn't have any pint or half-pint sized glasses, which was not, at all, true, because they were lined up on the bar behind her. (She picked up a pint glass and filled it with beer as she was telling me they didn't have the right glasses. um... ok.) She said they "don't do doubles." So she did singles, and, of course, I had to pay for two glasses, stand in line twice, tip twice....You get the picture. I walked to the table with my drink. Drank it in about 2 gulps, because that's how small their drinks are....and then I had to walk back to the bar, wait in line and order another. A double would have been much nicer. I had requested a gold tequila in my drink and was told that they had none. What kind of bar doesn't carry gold tequila? The Richmond Bar. That's who doesn't. The other thing is..... I'm not sure what to do when I go in there. Do I sit at a table and someone might stop by to take an order....or do I order at the bar? Nothing is clear. The place can get very loud, too. They might post a sign or something. I ordered drinks for my husband and myself, and our hand pies, and we were seated at a table. Along came a bartender and I asked for the tab. "Clear it out at the register." he barked. So....for a third time since entering the door, I had to stand in line at the bar. Not an efficient way of doing things. Not a clearly defined way of doing things....so it's a mix. (no pun intended.) Great food, tasty but WAY TOO SMALL FOR THE PRICE drinks. The bartenders are friendly....well....the one that worked last Saturday wasn't that friendly, but the guys are very nice and helpful with suggestions. The woman that took our order seemed annoyed, actually....so whatever. Not perfect, but then, nothing is. I'm glad this little bar is in the hood. It has a nice, upbeat atmosphere and is a fun place to go...except for the confusion.

Cute and classy atmosphere. However, limited food selection, but this is a bar and for bar food it gets an A+. I ordered their homemade hand pie with butternut squash and goat cheese. Perfectly crispy crust that flaked off when I bet into it. The creamy goat cheese interior was the best part though! Also great fries and house made malt ketchup! Fantastic and innovative cocktails. I got the Paloma which was similar to a grapefruit margarita on the rocks. It was hard to decide what I wanted to get because the cocktails all had intriguing ingredients and combinations. Honeysuckle was also a very good drink! Male bartender was very friendly, female bartender was maybe distracted... But all in all a good experienced and a welcomed new establishment to one of my favorite areas in Portland. Little bit on the pricey side. Haven't been in for Happy Hour though.

Super loud. Drinks were good weird seating. Overworked bar staff. Won't be back. Pretentious crowd. If you don't have glasses and a wool coat don't bother.

With the recent notoriety and positive reviews we had to take a drive down Division and check out the Richmond Bar...a previous neighborhood and slightly divey bar ,the space has been transformed into a intimate warm inviting bar/restaurant. It's got this neo-Victorian feel whilst maintaining a modern edge... I got a great vibe immediately from the Bartenders( both bearded but the friendliest hipster this side of ummm... Burnside. A nice full bar menu...mix a mean cocktail...love the fact the carry not just Campari but Aperol and Cynar as well for the perfect customized Negroni. A nice short list of beers..from Ol' German to draft IPA...hey! Don't leave without trying the Austrian "squirt" beer...like lemonade with a 2.5 ABV kick... We ordered and shared: The Mac and cheese...world class Wedge Salad- heaping tasty..although the dressing was a bit too Vinegary Fries...very acceptable Burger..with a nice compliment of sliced pickles...it's kind of like a craft-big mac. The only downside if any is that it's self serve.. And the staff(beard tenders) do their best to deliver drinks and the chef seems to be delivering food orders as well. But whatever..that's not a major negative...this is a Cool spot..open Late with a limited late night menu..we will be back.

Great drinks and the mac & cheese is awesome. The decor, atmosphere and friendly bartenders make this one of my favorite places in SE. It's also usually easy to get a table!

Swanky drinks with no pretense or pompous delivery. Inspired interior and the best Manhattan I've ever drank. *authors note: I don't usually like Manhattans. With that in mind, I again say, Richmonds' Manhattan is divine.

Hip yet unpretentious, with all the romantic touches you'd expect if you're a regular at Portland's nicer bars: light bulbs that look like they were crafted by Thomas Edison, contrast-pattern wallpaper and lots of dark finished wood. The cocktails were good (I had the Sassafras, a herbal tequila-mezcal & root concoction; my companion had a gin and beet juice beverage - both were tasty) and we were pleased with their pasty-style hand pies. The only thing amiss was their music (90's alt radio rock) but somehow I doubt it's their typical playlist. I'll certainly return & would return sooner if I lived closer!

It's a nice spot to hang out with a small group of friends. The place is easy on the eyes. Drinks are a little to light for my taste. They jigger/measure their pours. It never looks good when you walk into a bar and they jigger everything. Besides that the place is nice. We ordered fries which were good. We'll eventually be back.

White Cheddar Mac 'n Cheese is really good. Ordered a sazerac it was tasty and well made...had one or two more. You have to order at the bar, which seems to be more and more common these days. Kind of a pain, but the service was really very good. We'll be back I'm sure.

I've finally found the restaurant/bar I've been looking for!! The food was all great and so reasonably priced: $7 mac and cheese that was completely filling? I don't remember the last time I paid $7 for a full meal, even from a food cart. (That may be hyperbole . . . ) Anyway, ambiance is great, seats are super comfortable, drinks are good (they have beer AND wine AND cocktails, not just 2 out of 3), service was fast and pleasant. You do have to order at the bar, but it's not really a burden. It's like two steps away from your table. And the food was goooood. The fries are NOT just like McDonald's. The mac was awesome, very satisfying and rich. The pate board was LARGE, plenty of food for the price. But, above all, they have hand pies. I think any place will win me over with a hand pie, so maybe I'm biased, but GUYS! They have hand pies! I'm comin' back.

Division needs another bar like I need a toothache, so it was with some reservation that my girl and I decided to wrap up the evening with a final cocktail at the Richmond. I'm very glad that we did. The atmosphere is very rustic yet inviting in this tiny bar, and the service is solid. The menu is also very inviting as it has a wide range of specialty cocktails for the discerning palette as well as some very approachable food fare. The cocktails range in base including whiskey/rye, rum, tequila, and even mescal. This makes sense as the bartender comes from Riffle NW, which is consistently rated one of the better bars in PDX. The location was well thought out as it is dead center between Pok Pok and the Whiskey Soda Lounge, so they will no doubt pick up a lot of libation seeking patrons who are waiting the inevitable 2.5 hours to get a table at Pok Pok and who don't want to fight for an hour for a drink at the Whiskey Soda. If The Richmond keeps up their current level of quality, service and ambiance, I see no reason why this little neighborhood bar won't become a long term fixture of the Division landscape.

R.B. has the works - superb cocktails and sumptuous meals make a delightful eating experience. Add to the mix a knowledgeable and friendly barstaff and top it off with vegan options and a happy hour that starts at 4 makes weekly excursions there well worth the price.

I like the vibe here. The cocktails are great, but average around $9. I had a wedge salad, which had mushrooms on it (nice touch), but a bit too much dressing. I'll be back though...

This is a great little addition to Division. The economics of such a small place might be a challenge for the owners, but it's size is wonderful for the customer. Tastefully cozy might describe it. Such ambience is welcome among the cool, industrial chic newcomers to the Division restaurant and bar scene. After we saw a review that the negroni--which I don't even think is a featured cocktail for Richmond--we ordered it straight up. It was done perfectly, with exactly the right balance between the three ingredients. Our friends loved their signature cocktails as well. The Richmond Board selection was excellent, as was the generous portion of shoestring fries. We're only sorry we didn't have time to sample more of Richmond Bar's offerings. We'll be back!

This place is fabulous and a great addition to our neighborhood. The chef is a total artist and the meals are generous. The floor and bar staff are really friendly and professional. Ordering and paying at the bar is a nice English touch. Nate Tilden put his excellent good taste to work on this place (Nate even built the banquettes and booths). The center table is alot of fun for groups and strangers, too.

Nice atmoshphere....but where is the service? There were 4 of us. We ate and drank and gave the place a nice chunk of change. No one EVER came to our table and asked if we needed anything, if food was ok, needed another drink.....not acceptable. It would be ok if things were a bargain and they were short on help. Neither of those seemed to be the case. It would be nice if they showed the customers a bit of appreication thru SERVICE at the table.

They really need to do something about the ventilation in this place. Wow. It stinks like fried food. I tried to sit at the bar, but the smell was so overpowering I had to move. The smell was less pronounced sitting at a table, but still not great. On a positive note, my old fashioned was pretty good and reasonably priced. 4 stars for the drink. 2 for the fried food atmosphere and bar top that was wiped with a sour rag.

Was excited about coming here, not just because of the buzz, but because I loved the Matchbox and was expecting this to be as good if not better. Right away I really liked the ambience of the new place. But I have to say it was downhill from there. The menu was simply OK and I did not like having to order food from the bar, which is fine when not busy but a real pain when it is (especially when it came time to pay). I had high hopes for the garlic burger, but was really disappointed with it. It came cooked perfectly pink, yet had surprisingly little taste and the texture was tough. The burger does come with excellent homemade chips but not many of them. Given the $14 price (when adding the fries, which were just like McDonald's), I'll be going elsewhere for my next burger fix.The beer selection was pretty average, too, but looks like they focus more on cocktails.
