Okay so I remember having really good sandwiches at this place back in the day. That being said,I wouldn't EVER go back again after today. A good way to sum up the customer service is there is none. The woman who works the counter couldn't possibly care any less about anything pertaining to her job. As mentioned by the previous reviewer the turkey sandwich was good but not worth the complete lack of customer service. I am a local business owner and always greet customers with a smile, say thank you and try to let them know that they are important to my business, anything else is just unacceptable. PS I guarantee if they bother to read this (which they won't) they won't care:)

So my friend and I have been traveling up the west coast for 2 weeks and found ourselves in Portland, quite hungry, with a hankering for nice deli sandwiches. Subway would not do, and after poking our heads into the two Tik Tok places (which brought to mind the word 'seedy'--also, they're exactly the same place, why are they both in the same shopping center?) Anyway, so we kept going east on Division. Looking at yelp reviews, we began to lower expectations. Thus, when I found the middling ratings of the Deli Barn, we said, eh, why not? So we pull into the parking lot, only to find an old woman taking up two spaces, sitting in her car smoking. I thought, damn. She shouldn't be smoking. Or taking up two spaces like that. This old woman's a jerk! Then when I got out of the passenger's side, she smiled at me. Then I thought, maybe she's not a jerk. Inside the joint, we were prepared to be ignored by the ladies behind the counter, based on previous reviews. Instead, we were greeted by a friendly woman who waited patiently when I said I needed a moment. I ordered the tuna sandwich. My friend, who I will code name Bartleby, ordered the Hawaiian sandwich. We ordered to go, and sat for a few minutes, watching Rachel Rae which was playing on four flat screen TVs. I sneezed twice, unexpectedly, and the woman behind the counter said Bless You. Very courteous, indeed. This was much unexpected, given previous reviews. I was glad I added a dollar tip when I signed my credit card receipt. When the food came, we decided to eat it there. We were glad we did, because we learned that when you are making pizza, you should use a pizza stone, preheat the stone in the oven, and once the pizza hits the stone, don't push it forward or you will end up with a pizza disaster! (Thank you Rachel Rae and you fat Italian guys!) Overall, the food was pretty good. Bartleby scarfed his down faster than me and was ready to get on the road, leaving me finishing my Doritos in a hurry. He was already outside and I was shoving them in my mouth at the register which is where you turn in the trash, since they don't have a trash can in front. The lady behind the counter smiled at me and said, "You can take them with you." We laughed. And I did. We were initially going to give this 3 stars for the food, but added a star for the courtesy and the informative cooking program. In sum: if you want good daytime television, like the ambient sounds of people gambling, and prefer local restaurants to corporate franchises, this is your spot!

Not a bad place to get a sandwich. The bread was fresh and soft. The meats and veggies had a lot of flavor.

I don't have one good thing to say about this place. Customer service was terrible, Treated me like a second class citizen. I tried to order tacos but didn't see a sign that said it starteed at 5. only saw Fri The soup I ordered was awful. I only took two bites, the crackers were stale. I will never go there again. Not even if i was paid to do so.

Ode to all you people who complain about customer service. You expect 5 star service when paying for a $3.00 meal. If you want someone attending to your every whim go pay $50.00 a plate or stay at moms. This is a video poker deli that happens to have great food at a minimal price. The reason the prices are so low is because they run a minimal crew so your wait will be longer but worth it. The staff is always friendly, the drinks are always strong and the biscuits and gravy are the best in town for only $1.99. The other specials are great and very reasonable. I will be back.

Subway has better service, but not better sandwiches. I took my first trip to Deli Barn for lunch and while I enjoyed the food, they almost lost a customer because the service needs a lot of improvement. Not a great thing for a first time customer to say... I was the only customer at the time. When I arrived, the server/sandwich maker/possible owner was visiting with her friend. She came to help me promptly. However, that was the only time I received prompt service. After I placed my order, she continued to talk to her friend for approx. 5 minutes before she even began making my sandwich. Then, while making my sandwich, she continued to talk to him, so I know it was taking a lot longer to make it than it should have. I was in/out in approx. 15 minutes, which is too long when I am the only customer and am ordering a deli sandwich. When she handed me my sack, I said thank you. She did not. Once again, she was too busy talking to her friend. The food....great sandwich...piled high with turkey, ham, bacon, lettuce, cheese and tomatoes. I love cream cheese on a sandwich, so for this alone, they get an A. I ordered the lunch special, which came with a choice of soup, salad or chips. I am pretty sure the soup (Black Bean and Rice) was homemade, but I didn't ask. It was decent. $6 all in, very reasonable. I do wish I could take back the $1 tip I left her when I signed my credit slip. The decor---very plain. There is a tv as well as beers on tap and Keno, etc. Decorated with Racing tropies, etc. It seemed clean. I will return for the sandwiches, but I will call my order in for pickup. Good sandwiches, but service improvement needed!!

Thought I could get past the service for a good sandwich. When I walked up, the girl was sitting outside smoking and talking on the phone. I went inside thinking there would be another employee. I stood at the counter for a few minutes before another customer came in and stood in line behind me. The girl outside then put out her cigarette and walked behind the counter while still talking on the phone apparently to take my order. Turns out I couldn't get past the service. I just walked out and went somewhere else.

I love the place. I go maybe once a week. The service is slightly slow, but you can watch them make your sandwich. At least you know its fresh. :) I have never been there while a lady was working so maybe I have just been lucky. But the guy that serve me is very nice and keeps talkin to you while he makes your sandwich. The food is awesome. The sandwiches are fresh, and the are not stingy on the meat either. The soup is good, i wouldn't say great since the beer cheddar soup hasn't been made recently but overall food is at a 9.0 from me. The service is at an 8.7 Its very clean and they almost always remember you. Very personal. Give it a try and if a lady is working I guess from reading the other posts don't expect much. But they guy is very prompt. My only complaint would be some of the other costomers. They come for the games and leave there kids in the main area. Its not a baby sitter its a food joint. O my other is that they stopped making Beer Cheddar Soup and I cannot find the right recipe to save my life. I will be going here for lunch for as long as i come.
