I do have a few dishes that are always good here. Have had some bad experiences. One time i brought a friend who ordered orange chicken. When it was brought out it was ice cold. He sent it back. They microwaved and returned it. It was still cold. There was no apology from the staff and when he paid they did not bring back his change forcing him to give them a $5 tip. Their phone also does not seem to work sometimes and even when it does work sometimes no one will answer. So even take out can be tricky. Be careful when paying because twice now they have not given me back my change. I am a tipper. It should be the costumers choice to tip though. They should not be forced by dishonesty

So delicious! I've eaten here a number of times, but finally decided to take the time to write a review. The staff is always friendly, even when you're just dropping in to pick up a take-out order. Prices are fair. Mostly importantly, the Pumpkin Curry is amazing! Just the right marriage of earthy, sweetness from the pumpkin and traditional Thai spices.

Ordered take out and it was reasonably priced and ready before the estimated time. Red curry with tofu was DELICIOUS. Every Thai restaurant I go to I try the red curry first and there tofu was soft and perfectly cooked - not chewy like many other places- and the curry itself was perfectly balanced between sweet and spicy and not lacking flavor. Will definitely be back to try the noodles!

Totally standard and inexpensive Thai fare. On our first day here, after unloading the moving van and after a week of eating only fast food, it was a relief to have a healthy-ish Thai meal. My pad see ew was really tasty and lifted my spirits, and my husband's pad thai was perfectly enjoyable. The lunch prices are really good, and the service was great. There's nothing groundbreaking about the food, but I love that they're open for takeout all the time. My husband and I are both small people, so I feel like one dish would be enough to split between two, as long as both have smaller appetites. I can't wait to be back to try more dishes, and feel like Thai Roses is going to be in our standard takeout rotation.

Came in at 2:00, and they close at 2:30 for lunch, so maybe that's why service was poor? The man who greeted us didn't bother helping me grab a high chair even though I was juggling a toddler and a large diaper bag. Seemed annoyed with any request I made. Food was great--not too salty, with very fresh and well-cooked vegetables. Too bad about the service, likely not coming back.

This is my absolute favorite restaurant and the best thai food I have ever had. I have tried over 50 thai restaurants and even been to Thailand and this is as good as it gets. Friendly staff, wonderful people, delicious food and not expensive!

I showed up for lunch on a weekend. I asked for a suggestion from the server. One of the three suggestions was the prik king. I like prik king but it was very salty... Very, very salty. Not inedible... But not far off. I also ordered sweet rice and mango. Before ordering I asked if the mangos were nice and ripe. The server said yes... It wasn't when I got it. Overall, I was disappointed with my meal. To be fair, I have a friend who says the larb here is the best. Perhaps that is what I should have ordered. This is a one and done place for me.

Great service and food. I took all 3 kids and they were entertained. I lasted over an hour with 2, 4, and 7 year old. Cool saltwater fish tank to entertain and I took coloring along.

I came here a couple years ago and from the reviews it sounds like it hasn't changed. I ordered the cashew chicken and couldn't finish it. It was pretty sloppy and looked like it was just thrown on the plate. I haven't been back and with no intention of returning.

Service was friendly and quick. Got the following: Masaman Curry with Roast Duck and Pad Sew Eww with Beef. The Pad Sew Eww was really good. The Masman Curry was extremely salty. Can't say I would ever want to go back here again.

Barely food, certainly not worth paying for. What you would expect from a truck stop diner but without the friendly service. Too bad because it is walking distance from my house

Hopping off the bus and ready to hike in a frozen state about a half-mile to a job, happened upon Thai Roses. Not only was I frozen and starved, but I was cutting it close to make it to work on time. All of a sudden something bright went off in my mind, like a light bulb in a refrigerator. Holy popsicles, I could have some Thai food to go. So over curb and concrete I went to Thai Roses to complete my mission. As I walked to the front door, I noticed they had what looked like a charming outdoor eating area, with several rustic, hand-carved-looking booths, and tried to imagine what it would be like on a perfect summer day. Me and my imagination couldn't quite get there, so I hurried on into the restaurant. It was so nice and warm, and I started to thaw, and I saw that the restaurant was decorated quite nicely in shades of butterscotch and bittersweet and seemed very harmonious and relaxing. I was greeted immediately at the front desk by a very nice young woman who guessed correctly that I wanted to get a take-out order. I ordered some chicken pad thai (not a particularly original order, but it just sounded so good right then), and while the young woman put my order in, she poured me a glass of ice water, which in spite of the weather outside, I drank straight down - yum. The pad thai arrived quickly, and once I got to work (on time), it was a delicious hot meal I enjoyed a lot on a cold, cold day. I'll go back when i have more time to check out the ambience of the restaurant and try some other dishes than good old reliable pad thai, but the pad thai today gave me a great start to the workday and plenty of energy to keep on going the rest of the day.

It's okay, the atmosphere is awesome! Seating out side, large windows with great landscape inside. This is our first time here, we had the spicy lover and tam kah soup. The spicy lover was great, I'd recommend it for sure, but compared to the same item at pepper tree across the street, I'd rather have pepper trees. I'd rate this place more stars, but the tam kah soup was not very good. It was missing the spices that make tam kah so delicious. The tam kah's coconut milk was curdled as well. I would definitely come back for other entrees, but will never again eat their Tom kah. I recommend this place to try, however, pepper tree across the street is the best Thai I've had in portland.

Service is friendly. Drinks are a little skimpy in quantity. Mango juice iced and watery. FOOD WAS EXCELLENT!! The Khao Soi was absolutely amazing! Order with anything (chicken, beef, shrimp or Tofu). Desert was awesome! Deep fried ice cream with mango sauce

I love Portland but one thing Seattle has over this city is abundance of good Thai food restaurants. That is until I found Thai Roses. It's a little out of the way (3+ miles from downtown) but it is worth the trip. The food is flavorful and against Chef Ramsey's rules, they have a HUGE menu. I thought their prices were very good (especially for menu items such as lamb, prawns and sea bass - which were awesome by the way).

  • Jeff H.

After not being seated for ten minutes and being ignored for another twenty across the street we came to Thai Roses. Awesome service, good food and a good experience. It's a tad more expensive but well worth it.

We decided to give this place the benefit of the doubt and go there for lunch last week. I had been for lunch a couple years ago and was sorely disappointed. This time I came in and sat down. There were two other tables seated and one table seated just after we arrived. After waiting about 7 or so minutes, the waitress (possibly the owner, who was the only employee in the restaurant apparently) finally brought us water. There were two of us. She gave us water but didn't look at us or say hello or anything. We were already to order, and were on a timeline, but she walked away. We sat for several more minutes. During that time I observed a teen trying to get her attention, but she walked away without acknowledging her as well. At that point I looked behind me and the couple that seated after us looked at me bewildered, also having waited awhile. At that point I was raging hungry and decided to leave. I went to a restaurant nearby and was served immediately. This really is unfortunate as I love Thai food and it's the only Thai food place close to my office. :-(

SLOPPY is the KEY Word HERE! Poor excuse for a restaurant. Charging 18% automatic gratuity for 4 adults and 2 children because we were a party of 6?????OK now somebody has to be lying in these reviews, because this place is the worst example of Thai food in PDX. This was the worst restaurant experience we've had in a long time. The bar is set very high for Thai Food in the Portland area, and this place got no where near the bar. Our family met here because our daughter lives in the area and we wanted to find some place close to her house. The service was ok, usually if servers remove used dishes off the table when it's obvious you are finished with them, we had to ask. The worst part is the food, it is obviously not prepared by someone who has a clue what Thai Cuisine should taste like. Mushy sticky overcooked rice, heavy thick way over salted sauces. The salt was so heavy we couldn't finish our food, and left 3/4 of our food on the table. I guess we were charged an automatic gratuity because no one else was in the restaurant except for another family of 4, so I guess we were charged because they had to work? I think we must have eaten old left overs because it tasted like last weeks food. The Tom Yum soup, my most favorite Thai soup, was the worst salty sad situation I've experienced in a long time.

Here is where you should go if you want the most generous portion of Coconut Shrimp, you get 8, while every where else is either 6 or 4. Very tasty too. The sizzling beef is also one their best dish, and one of my Thai favorites. The Thai roast chicken though, the portion is great but not very tasty. Depending on the day, some time service is really fast, but sometime is very slow, and and also few times my dish was overcooked or slightly burned But overall is not so bad at all!

Thai Roses is the absolute best bang for your buck with flavor and quantity. Their curry is outstanding and extremely strong in flavor, to the point where you can easily create 2 - 3 meals out of a single order (with more rice of course). A great deal. In comparison, Thai Herbs is much more mild and delicate - not necessarily better or worse, it just depends on what you prefer - delicate or strong flavor. Personally, I love the flavor intensity and I love that I pay for 1 meal but end up getting 3. Best order suggestion is the Red Curry (#31 I think), and add Pineapple. It's got better flavor than just the pineapple curry listed (#30) and it comes with eggplant, which is thinly sliced so its texture is not that of a soggy sponge. Their slices of bamboo shoots are also thicker, like mini planks of wood, unlike the smaller shreds you'll get at Thai Herbs. Again, a matter of preference. Only giving this one star down because it's slightly more expensive, and because the crab and cream cheese wonton's aren't that good.

good pad thai yum i like coming here for that it's definitely good if you haven't tried salt and peper squid id recommend you to try it here it's very good i don't like how there's no rice serviced with it normally other places service rice with it... anyways the bad thing here is tum yum soup oh my god it tasted like hell aka plain it was like they boiled some water and threw in a couple shrimps and couple i mean about 3 and mushroom piece of tomato and that's it i was so mad and it was luke warm i had to ask them to warm it up what kind of restaurant doesn't serve up hot soup?! lol and the service it's mediocre the waitresses don't understand me and i don't understand them it's kinda quite awkward environment so good and bad i gave this place 3 stars so you know what you're getting into lol

We generally get take out. Pad key maw is a favorite. Always yummy and good portions.

Inedible, flavorless slop. Takeout all went down the drain, what a waste. Tip: slightly better Thai can be found across the street!

Very good pad kee mao. That is all I have tried there but it is delicious. If you like spicy they can really bring the heat. I like spicy food and got hot, and it was a little much for me. Others were crying. Their lunch special is the best deal. I usually get take out but the restaurant has a nice ambiance. Conveniently located on the Beaverton-Hillsdale highway, this is the best thai food I have had in the area.

This is not your 5 star - $$$$$ - Thai infusion - modern and trendy Thai restaurant. Its seating is very family oriented and nothing to write home about. BUT with homemade curries this is consistently good food. A great Thai food restaurant. I primarily do take outs from here. Never had a complaint. Highly recommend. Also try there spicy stir fry's.

The place serves OK Thai Food. Clean, standard food that a fellow American - never been to Thailand - would find palatable. I asked for some hot fish oil sauce, the kind with the peppers cut into it. They hand me something that looked like a traditional american Chinese setting. The one with the thick oily spice sauce. I said, this is not Thai, she said, well we don't have what you are looking for. But we made this today. Hmmmmmmmm - I will look around more. Have been here before 5 times. Not really impressed. Just very standard

Best Thai food in the area. Reasonably priced. Fast service!

I was skeptical about this place after reading some of the negative reviews, which I tend to give more credence than the positive ones. But the pad kao mee was one of the best I've ever had -- far better than the version served by Thai Derm, which is my favorite Thai restaurant. The sauce was rich and flavorful (if you want medium spice, order it "hot"). The chicken was plentiful, the broccoli bright and crunchy, and the bean sprouts garden fresh. My only wish for this soft noodle dish, which applies to all Thai restaurants, is something crispy to accompany it. A single spring roll or fried won ton would be the perfect complement.

  • Perri C.

I visit Thai roses often for their lunch special. It's well-priced and good. They are friendly and polite. We sometimes use the coupons & discounts they offer on a weekend night when we feel like Thai food. Its not always consistent , but its never been bad and some dishes are very good.

Very good Thai food and they deliver. Particularly fond of their noodle soup, salad rolls and pananag curry. Some of the best Thai in pdx.

I love thai, as you can see I have reviewed lots of thai restaurants. Thai Roses is my favorite Thai place in the area. The Thai Salad with the crunchy wontons skins, eggs, carrots, cucumbers, and fabulous peanut dressing is a perfect starter. My other staple favorites are the Salad rolls, green curry with chicken, lemongrass chicken, sizzling garlic lamb, and of course their Pad Thai. Some ass clown I know that is sitting next to me being overly critical of my choice of wording in MY reviews, enjoys the yellow curry. I wish they had T-shirts, I would wear it.

Been there twice. The first time it was 5 stars the second 3. . .so i would say it is inconsistent. Perhaps they had a different chef cooking each time. menu is pretty large, with all the standards.

Thai Roses is my favorite Thai restaurant in SW Portland. I usually get yellow or red curry and pad see ew. Both are delicious, flavorful and come in decent portion sizes. Love Thai Roses!

I thought this was an average thai restaurant which is located in raleigh hills near new seasons grocery store. I went here for dinner wanting a curry fix. I ordered a red curry with coconut milk and veggies including the small eggplant and also some appetizers. The service was good and the waiter was helpful and friendly. The appetizers were brought out right away which was great since I was very hungry going in. After consuming the appetizers which were ok, the entree came out. I really liked the entree especially the eggplant. The last health inspection score was an 87 percent on 3/25/2009. Overall, I liked the food and the atmosphere and may go back again.

This was the first Thai restaurant I visited when I moved to Portland. I had family that lived nearby, and they said it was good. It's just that, good, but not great. The restaurant is decently big, as I recall they have a bar, booths and plenty of tables. It has never been especially crowded in the times I've returned (yes, I have gone back). Parking can be slightly cramped, they do have a lot and it seems to fill up quick. The menu is very standard. Nothing original to be found. If you want green curry, it's there. If you want pad thai, it's there. If you want a house special pumpkin curry with yadda this yadda that, you won't find it on here. This place is very comparable to Bangkok Corner, Thai Orchid, and E-San. Pok Pok and Lemongrass play a whole different ballgame. If I lived out in this area of Southwest, and I had a wife and kids, and they all wanted Thai food, I would take them here. This place does to-go orders. Prices range from $7-12 for dishes.

This has become one of my favorite places for girlfriend lunches/dinners, date night and catering. Their food is amazing, as is the service. I usually eat this chicken, shrimp, broccoli and noodle dish. Save enough room for the banana/coconut dessert "things." No idea what they are called, but they melt in your mouth! I've never had a bad meal there and am never disappointed. When I bring new people, they thank me and when I give a gift certificate it makes my friends happy. Can't go wrong. Just had lunch there again today! Perfect for my children, too.

Another miss on the adventure to find a decent Thai meal in PDX. Flavorless and uninspired.

I decided to try this for delivery as the owner lives on my street. He was very nice when he delivered my food. However - the Tom Kha (which is a cocunut soup) which is normally orange and spicy and yummy was white and had no flavor. The veggies were soggy and the food had no flavor & no spice. I would not recommend this place unless you just want to go in and talk to the owner & the nice staff.

Love this place! It's right down the road from us so we go here often and have never been disappointed. The food is great, hardy thai that is not overpriced. I love curry and this place has a nice selection of curry dishes that are very tasty. The wait staff is always friendly and attentive. If you're in the area, I highly recommend Thai Roses.

Alright I still remember when Thai Roses was a Arctic Circle but it has been a consistent Thai place for a while now. Not really the best, but always a place to get those good standards, curry, pad thai, etc. The soups are always good and they seem to have a list of specials that are worth asking about. We usually just order to go but we have eaten here a few times and the service has been very friendly and speedy. The lunch specials are a good deal.

Just returned from there for Christmas Eve dinner since the family shindig was called off when the old folks didn't want to drive across town in the ice. The food was really good. My husband had the pineapple curry and I had the appetizer sampler as a meal. The menu was extensive! The service was AWFUL. No one came to take our order, so I finally walked up to the counter. I was then asked if I "wanted to place a to-go order." Um, no, but you never came to our table. I then asked her which of the appetizers had chicken in them, since my husband is allergic. She had no idea and gave info that contradicted the menu. We enjoyed the food, but were never given drink refills. After they cleared our plates, we sat at a completely empty table for at least 10 minutes with no bill. We finally had to ask for it. Needless to say, they didn't get a tip from us. We've decided to give it another try because it is very close to where we live and the food was good. If we get crappy service again, we'll move on. EDIT: We've now been back many times. The service can be spotty, but the food is always delicious!

  • C M.

This is my favorite thai place in SW hands down! The best pad se ewe. Great service and they didn't charge me extra when I asked for extra broccoli. This isn't the closest thai place to my house (there are three other places closer) but it is by far the best. and worth the drive.

  • Christian M.

It's good. Well, ok. Their coconut soup doesn't have the kick to it that I like, but they're good enough that my stepdad-in-law and his kid have gone here once a week for so many years, they've lasted longer than management. The kid always gets the pineapple fried rice, and the dad always gets some meaty chicken dish. Last time I got the masuman, I was sorely dissapointed. I love their pad khi mao or "drunken noodles" Service is always prompt.

    (3)
  • E K.

We get take out here every once in a while because it's close. Foods okay until tonight when we started with a piece of hair in the pad thai or massuman curry (things were mixed). A minute later, there was what appeared to be a dried worm. Brought the food back, got a refund. At least they apologized and said they had never had seen something like this before. Oh well. It'll take a while before we get the courage to order from here again.

  • heather m.

this place has some of the best thai food i've had in my life. their sauces and curries are especially wonderful, and the food is almost always served very quickly. the service can be a little erratic, and that's the only reason i don't give them 5 stars. but the food...mmmmm!

    (4)
  • Felipe R.

Super nice staff, very friendly attentive. The restaurant itself is your standard Thai restaurant, décor is pretty standard. Nice Big Aquarium, good little bar. Prices are reasonable and the food is really good. I always get a curry type meal and last night was no different. The only thing I would really advise on is that Medium Spicy meals.. is really, REALLY hot. I don't know for sure if maybe there was a mistake with mine, but it was REALLY up there. I mean it tasted delicious, and I ate it all, but woo that was spicy. t

  • Rob A.

Takeout Tom Yum soup was watery and flavorless. We added Tom Yum paste of our own at home. Service was indifferent, bordering on surly. Kao Pad was adequate. I ate there last fall and that time the service was worse and the food a tiny bit better. I've been eating there for 15 years and have never had a worse meal there than I did today. I wouldn't have gone back after last fall if the prior 15 years hadn't been so good.

After driving by this place multiple times, spurned on by positive Yelp reviews, I stopped in for lunch. The atmosphere is charming and the service was prompt. After ordering egg rolls and pad see eew with tofu, the server was conscientious enough to bring to my attention that the lunch special comes with a soup that is made with chicken broth. As a 20 year vegetarian, I appreciated the info and passed on the soup. My veggie egg rolls arrived quickly and my pad see eew followed shortly. I enjoyed both very much and had more than enough to take home for an additional meal. In total, my lunch came to just about $12.00 before tip. Very reasonable. I look forward to returning to try many of the other enticing items. Bon appetit!

I love this restaurant! I've eaten at just about every Thai restaurant in Portland, from food carts to upscale, and this little gem is still my favorite. I think the recipes are the owner's wife's family recipes. They have the best Salad Rolls anywhere, so I always start with those. They have a couple of salmon dishes which melt in your mouth! I take clients here on a regular basis, and everyone has been really happy with their food. (Except one or two who say they can handle Thai extra hot/spicy, even after the server warned them that Thai "hot" is VERY spicy.) You can choose chicken, tofu, pork, beef, or seafood for almost any dish. They have daily specials which are really exotic and delicious. They do catering, and have a delivery service. It seems like they have as much delivery or take out as they do eat in. Oh, and how could I forget, they have a HUGE saltwater aquarium, maybe 250 gallons, in the middle of the restaurant, which is mesmerizing. There is a real coral "reef" in the middle of it, and colorful fish and sea creatures swim all around. It's worth coming to the restaurant just to see it!!

  • Leslie E.

I used to live near here so I gave it a chance. Twice. Both times i had some of the worst Thai food i have ever had in my life. Bland when i asked for spicy! Vegetables that were soggy and tasted freezer burned. I give it two stars ONLY because the servers are super nice!! Not nice enough to make up for the food though. I know some people love this place, but in general i think you'd be better off crossing the street and going to Pepper Tree Thai!

  • Duane S.

Perfect lunch. Staff very warm, friendly and welcoming. Despite being out of the soup, they replaced with a super delicious, fresh and colorful salad with a peanut dressing. My entree was equally delicious, freshly prepared and beautifully presented. I will be returning again and again
