We have lived in the village for 5 years and have never gone to Thai Herbs because we have heard some mixed reviews. I finally decided that we should try it, but we probably won't go there again. Love supporting local businesses but the food is not that notable...Vegetables were obviously frozen, not fresh. Overall not very impressed and probably won't visit again. However, I did have a very friendly host/server that helped me and had a warm welcoming smile and was very friendly. If I had to recommend a restaraunt, I would not recommend this one.

The food is very good and we had no trouble getting served promptly. I love the patio outside which is dog friendly, it's such a nice meal in a nice town :)

Great local Thai restaurant! Very quick and friendly. Food was a little bland overall but still good enough to go back again and again.

I have always enjoyed my experiences at Thai Herbs. Maybe it's the fact that my boyfriend and I don't eat meat, but it is excellent. From the Tom Yum and Tom Kha soups, to fried rice and panang curry, it is all pretty wonderful. It is fresh and flavorful. The staff are always lovely also. We have always received great and prompt service. We love this joint whether it's for comfort food or we're in a rush.

I am long overdue on this update! We have not tried eating in again, but we have gotten takeout near a dozen times since my last review. The wait time is usually only 15-40 minutes. A huge improvement over the first few times we got takeout. The food is always consistent, and very good. The fresh herbs, high quality vegetables, proteins, grains, and noodles really shine. On top of using excellent ingredients, the dishes are skillfully cooked to near perfection. Thai Herbs is one of our favorite places for takeout.

I like this spot. Its near my house and has a cute South Pacific Island hut kind of vibe to it with an awesome outdoor patio for nice days. The prices are good and their red curry, pad thai and fried rice are all delicious and veggie abundant.

OH MY GAWD! I must totally use my powers to counteract the whiners! These are so the droids you're looking for!! I've been grabbing lunch here for three years! Always grab and go! Never sit down! I came in tonight to enjoy a bite before my kickboxing class! I ordered my current fave of paneng curry with pork! As I waited the ridiculously short 10 minutes for my piping hot delicious meal, I perused past reviews! Haters gonna hate! Makes me ashamed to tell people I'm a yelper! So ashamed! They have consistently the nicest people serving you! The interior atmosphere is calm and eclectic! I love the decor! The patio is cute and inviting! Word is your K9s can sit with you! The food is so good! So fresh! You can hear them working hard in the kitchen to get you your meal fast! I feel truly appreciated as a customer! I love that! I had the most relaxing time eating here tonight!

Fast, friendly service and good food at a decent price. We got the massaman curry with beef and red curry with chicken. Strong coconut milk flavor for both but I wish the red was more spicy ;) Went during a weekday and it wasn't super crowded. Enjoyed a nice, chill lunch with a homey feel - probz because the restaurant is a converted house.

My Son took me here for Lunch after our parent-teacher conference. Of course I paid and we were specifically looking for a place with good soup to help his cold along. Any attempts by me to steer him somewhere else within the greater Multnomah Village area fell on deaf ears. When in Portland, I've come to expect a little funk in my ethnic or other cuisine. Thai Herbs is located in a converted house, and has kind of a retro western vibe. We sat inside in what was probably an old bedroom, but with living room and outdoor options available. The food was certainly delicious and relatively cheap off the lunch menu. I had Pad Thai with Chicken and the Kid had one of the moderately spicy soups (with chicken). There was more than enough food here, of which I gobbled up the Pad Thai (with my Son's help) and took a container of soup to go. I left pleased with our experience and my Son's good taste.

8:50 pm, walked in to this place for the first time, new the the neighborhood, and we were told "to go only" hmmmm, I'm confused your hours say open til 9:30, why on earth would you turn us down when you still have the kitchen open and people who have not been served yet?? If that we're my employee turning business away 40 minutes before I closed I would fire them! Maybe your website should say "closed at 8:30", or "whenever we don't feel like serving" thanks for the experience, I doubt we will be back based on employee morale & behavior! Good luck!

This place is GREAT! The salad rolls were herbal and delicious. I got the drunken noodles and they were good- they had that wok fried taste which you can't always find. I loved the soy sauce on their spice tray- totally elevated the meal :) I think I might have just been super hungry but I felt like the portion was kind of small. The outside seating was really nice. Good neighborhood Thai choice.

I stopped by for take out on the way home from work to treat my self. The staff was very friendly, curtious and professional. The food was really good as usual, although a bit pricey. Fresh, full flavor, light and clean tasting. However as I was waiting for my order to be prepared, I threw back a 2x Jamison, and at the bottom of my drink I noticed not one but 2 insects chillin out.......uh cover your bottles at closing time, or clean your cocktail glasses people. No refund was offered either. For this off experience I will give this establishment 2 stars this time around.

  • Joel L.

Overpriced for portion size and lack of authenticity. Service was good and prompt. Then again, the place was completely empty. Got the shrimp appetizer, and it was good but pedestrian, not very Thai. Bottled sweet chili sauce. Entrees ordered were the Pineapple Fried rice and beef Pad See Eew. Rice was sticky, but it's supposed to be somewhat loose. PSE had broccoli, not gai lan, and lacked the smoky earthy flavour authentic Thai places in LA Hollywood have. This place is the only Thai spot in the area. But if you want better Thai, I'd suggest the e-San food cart ($6 for nearly everything)

Nice spot to eat in the village. The food is always good and so is the service. Open late which is nice.

    (4)
  • Fayaz S.

Absolutely terrible service! This restaurant has too few servers and they make you wait for hours on the table to get food. Even drinks come so late. And it is not that they are too busy it is the attitude of the servers. We have tried it three times and all the times the service was terrible. The food is average so overall ratings will be poor. Never coming back.

We've been there couple times. Each time we ordered different dishes. And satisfaction was guaranteed every time. Best Thai food in SW Portland. Love their patio too.

I've lived in The Village for almost 10 years now, and this place has always been consistent: Amazing Thai food, horrible, ridiculously horrible service. For example, last night we went there and ordered our food and drinks immediately. Our drinks took about ten minutes, our spring rolls 45 minutes, our food 1 hour, fifteen minutes. When our food did arrive, there was no apology, no explanation, indeed, there were no plates or silverware, either. We had to steal some place settings from another table. I've ordered take out from them as well, with no better results. I placed an order by phone, was told it would be would be 45 minutes. I waited an hour to pick it up, and they hadn't even started making it yet. I had to stand and wait another 45 minutes before the order was ready. Again, no apology. The bottom line, the food is really good, and they are local so I'd like to support them, but the service is horrible and they are very understaffed. Don't come here if you are on a schedule.

  • Jennifer N.

*Don't pay attention to past reviews about "slow service" it's NOT true.* But do listen to mine instead. Not sure why everyone was so butt hurt about "how long they had to wait". My boyfriend and I were in and out within 45 minutes, no joke. With ordering two appetizers that came out in a very timely matter, and two entrees that came out at the most perfect time after we had ate the apps. I also ordered a beer that came out speedily as well. May I add that there were about five other full tables in the restaurant. I was also observing if they got their food within a timely matter, and they all did. The food was everything I had hoped for. I get the craziest Thai food cravings at times, and there's only one Thai food place I'm loyal to (and the only one I LOVE) but it's in Milwaukie, and it's quite a drive for me in SW PDX. I noticed that this place was VERY similar to my fav Thai place in Milwaukie called Rice Thai Cookery, from the decor to the taste of the food. And come to find out they were once ran by the same people until RTC was bought out. I was ecstatic when I heard that. Now I have my new fav Thai spot very close to my house!! You have no idea how excited I was. :-D To sum it all up, don't listen to the past reviews. Try it for yourself and just go, and you will be surprised. Food comes out in a very timely matter, service is kind and hard working, and the food is excellent.

Wow, I'm really surprised by all the whiney reviews here. We moved here from NYC a while back and have eaten here a few dozen times and the service has always been fine. The food is exceptional (my wife is asian and a chef and gives it good marks) and the place is cute as well. My honest review would be a 4 star rating but I'm giving an extra star to counter the impatient people who would dock a place several stars because they waited longer than McDonalds. It's a local family place and that kind of thing really hurts business. Seriously. Wendy's , Arby's and Dairy Queen all get 3-4 stars here and this place gets 3? This is the problem with Yelp - it becomes a weapon and not a useful device. So my advice is to ignore the reviews and try the food. It's quite good. Our favorites are the Lime Chicken and the Spicy Garlic but the soups are very good as well.

I really like Thai Herbs. I think that the value is just OK for the $, but the quality is always good! I recommend their mango stir fry dish. :)

  • Will C.

The food, people, and atmosphere are wonderful. I cannot recommend this place enough for either takeout or delivery. I would also recommend the Thai iced coffee as a sweet (but not overly so) finisher for your meal.

  • Brittany S.

I think this place is adorable, but if you're going because you want delicious flavorful Thai food.. I would keep looking. Two stars because again the place is really cute but the food was okay with okay service. We won't be going back.

Good Thai Slow, slow service. Great for take out if you're in the Multnomah/Hillsdale area.

Great Thai food and cool restaurant located in Multnomah Village. From 11-3 they have lunch specials that are a bargain and a good way to explore the menu! Plenty of outdoor seating for when the sun is shining! Bob is great and keeps the place rolling smoothly on the weekdays. I recommend the massaman curry and thai iced tea! Cheers.

I had an hour lunch break and the food came within 15 minutes. Food is very good but it's so spicy for medium! Had to down almost 3 glasses of water. Waiter was courteous and came in to check a few times for water and such.

We met for a early spring dinner, too cool to eat outside but it certainly looked inviting. On a Saturday night at 6:30, we walked right in to this quaint, rustic establishment and were seated. We may have hit them on a off night, as it did take a while to get the food we ordered. BUT..... the food was well worth the wait. The Tom Kha soup was delicious, so flavorful and tasty- packed with veggies. The Pad Kee Mao aka Drunken Noodle is always our stand by and the ruler that we use to measure Thai restaurants. It was not as spicy as most, but the supporting flavors of thai basil and the sweetness of the garlic sauce made for a perfect combination. We loved it. Thai Herbs' Lemongrass Chicken was grilled perfectly, not dry at all. Laid upon a bed of al dente vegetables, the sweet and savory peanut sauce dripped over it all and was amazing with white rice. Not only was the restaurant a great setting for a night with a wonderful date, but also a good spot to meet and hang out on the patio to enjoy the funky neighborhood.

This place is the best. Great vibe. Little expensive but multnomah area is just so on point!

  • Michelle C.

If you're looking for fresh Thai food with amazing flavor in a fun, funky atmosphere, Thai Herbs is the place! The service is great, the food is fresh and the prices are reasonable. There's a great outdoor patio area for the warmer months and the interior has lots of reclaimed wood and a fun, funky vibe. The menu is pretty big so there's lots to choose from. They also serve beer (on tap and bottled) and wine. We'll definitely be back!

  • T M.

Took my family here. Great pricing, awesome outdoor seating and my lil one chowed down! Always a good thing when the lil one packs in the veggies. We all loved our dishes and the service was quick and super friendly. Definitely going to be more of a regular here!

  • Debbie C.

The interior is cute, and the food looked good. But, we waited over an hour for our food. When the food finally arrived, it wasn't even that great. The staff never came by to ask if we wanted more drinks or to even refill my water, until we were done and the check arrived. I was also disappointed in the Thai ice coffee. Too dark. Tastes ok, but again, not the best. Needless to say, we were disappointed in the whole experience and we won't be back.

Have been here twice, both times I had fried rice dishes with tofu. Both were exactly what I was looking for, meaning that the fried rice was very light, not greasy, and not salty. And I liked the way they cooked the tofu. Service was friendly, too. Will go back, for sure.

I wanted to try this place after hearing the food is great here. The first time I went to order a take out. I was a bit disappointed, I was waiting outside in my car. when I went in to pick the food, after 15 minutes, the food was already cold. I had ordered among others, also Pad Thai. It was kind of tasteless, and dried out, and cold. I thought maybe it is because it had waited too long? So I wanted to give it another try but this time I went with a friend and we ate there. I ordered a curry, and again this too, came cold, the meat was kind of touch and tasted as if it had been refrigerated, and it was not much, just 4 pieces of meat, with a lot of onions, more veggies than meat. My friend had Pad Thai, and I had a bite and this time the Pad Thai was not cold neither dry though, so I guess it depends on the day? I have to say, prices here are also quite high. I like the location though. And I have not tried many of the items on the menu. So I guess I will try again and hopefully next time the food will be warm and will taste good!

The basics at this Thai restaurant are very sound. The Pad Thai and Thai Basil Eggplant dishes are very good. Thai Iced Tea is also very good. Servers are prompt, friendly, and attentive. And the locale itself is cute! A good place for a quick evening meal. Basics count for a lot in my book--I give 5 stars.

    (5)
  • Christopher ..

Pretty good traditional Thai American style food. If you're looking for authentic northern, southern or Bangkok street food, this is not your place. Lunch is cheap. Tasty egg drop soup they serve with every dish. People who work there are really wonderful - kind, good hearted, good service. My only issue is that twice now I've gone in for dinner at 830pm and they were closed down. Kind of early, especially when their website and Yelp say 930. Kind of annoying.

  • Ann Q.

I always get their thai herbs rolls and chicken pad kee mao. It's great! The service is always friendly as well.

    (5)
  • M M.

Some great Thai food! Service can be fast or med-slow, but it's always fast for take-out! Tried many things on the menu and everything has been above average or better! Glad they are nearby, they blow away the local competition for service and quality control!

  • Stephanie W.

Popped in for lunch. Ordered mussaman curry from lunch menu. Fail #1, wouldn't substitute egg roll for a Thai basil roll. Fail #2, unwanted egg roll arrives and it's a fried wonton. Fail #3, I ask server if the wonton has seafood in it and he replies no. I take a bite. He comes back to tell me it has shrimp in it. How does server not know this?! The mussaman itself is fine. But I certainly won't be coming back.

I tend to be on the "glass half full" side of life. I have deep patience and understanding for people and situations. I go out of my way to give enthusiastic feedback directly to people and businesses. So, that's a long way of saying that it takes a lot for me to write a negative review. I wish we would have read the reviews that warn of a slow wait. It's no exaggeration. It's S O S L O W. We arrived at 6:20pm. No one brought us menus until 6:35pm. We ordered. And waited. And waited. They didn't bring us the appetizer. They didn't acknowledge us. At 30 minutes mark, we asked how much longer. "We're making it now" they said. At this point, had they been honest and said, "We're actually not really sure" we would have left. At the 45 minute mark, a group who arrived after us started receiving boatloads of food. Understandably frustrated, my partner asked the server why the group that arrived after us was receiving their food. "They placed their order at 4pm" we were told. We waited another 15 minutes - a full hour. At this point, we asked again, "How much longer?" (still no appetizer) and we were told "Yours is next, after another table." We left at 8pm without dinner, and with a tired, hungry 14 month old (who seemed to be in a much better mood than his tired, cranky moms.) If you want to dine in and ensure adequate service. call your order in at 4pm for 6:30pm. Never. Again.

Cute spot! Nice patio seating. Overall, the food was pretty good, but I still found myself craving more flavor. Service was good, a friendly bunch. Spicy levels are on point, there will be no confusion here!

I'd heard some rumor that this wasn't a good restaurant, but we finally had a meal there last night and I have to say that it was a very good experience. Perhaps they had issues in the past, but we didn't experience any problems. Yes, the service is a bit slow, and I would recommend checking-in with the staff before sitting outside. They did seem to prefer knowing that we were selecting a patio table. Service was very courteous and this isn't, after all, fast food! We had spring rolls, vegetarian Spicy Basil, and Pineapple Curry with jasmine rice. All very good. Nice flavor on the curry. Portion size was good for a party of two, with a little bit of leftovers. The price was very reasonable. The outside seating area was very enjoyable with a view of the street scene in Multnomah Village. We will definitely go back again. Note, it doesn't appear that they have a liquor license. I didn't see any note of alcoholic options on their beverage menu.

I came tonight with my dogs. Waited outside without any service for 20min. Then I called and they said they had no outside service. Why have tables, if you have no Table Service. I was very disappointed, and left to find another restaurant that wanted my business. I hope they change their stance on that in the future

Solid Thai take out - fresh, fast, spicy to our exact request, and very nice folks. Perfect for a neighborhood Thai takeout joint.

  • Arika B.

I love Thai food. Probably too much. When I saw that there was a Thai restaurant walking distance from where I live, I was excited to give it a shot. I have ordered in and for take out. The food is just average. I wouldn't say it's terrible but it's nothing super exciting either. I keep coming back hoping that it'll be great and always just end up feeling like it was so so and still craving thai food. Great if your close and want something in the village but average food.

    (3)
  • Carrie S.

Get take out. Its quicker, hotter, and less of a wait. Thai herb rolls are some of the best veggie rolls I have ever had. I usually get the shrimp salad, which I think is very good. Their tom yum soup is also very good.

  • Whit G.

Leery of the mediocre reviews of this place, as well as my girlfriend's experience there, I waited about three months after moving to Multnomah Village to give it a try. Since doing so a couple of weeks ago I have eaten there at least four times. I don't know if they changed their cooks or recipe, but I haven't had anything there that I didn't like, and some of it I loved. Is it my favorite Thai in Portland? No, that honor would go to Thai Peacock downtown. But there's no question that Thai Herbs is a solid option, and I'm really glad that it's an easy walk from my house. Looking forward to my next meal there.

    (4)
  • Christine D.

This used to be my go to place for Thai food. I still love the food but now I only get take out as the service in this place makes me crazy. The "kids" that wait the tables sometimes can't be bother to take your order and when they do it comes out and you never see them again. It is also hard to even get the check. Again, food is great. Just get it to go. That's all I ever do anymore. The seating outside when the weather is nice is good too, however, same problem with the service.

    (3)
  • Lin N.

The majority of the reviews, and my experience at Thai herbs tonight, can be summarized as: decent Thai food for the area, horrendously slow service. Waited an hour, and that was just for the appetizer. The outdoor seating is plentiful, so on a nice day the wait might not be so bad if you've got the time.

    (2)
  • Jonathan G.

This place is ridiculously awesome. I'm big pad thai fan, and theirs is among the best. Nothing here is oily or greasy. Lots of flavor, big portions, and reasonable prices. They even have orange chicken, which isn't usual for a thai menu, but it's great. Light batter and a sweet glaze. Nothing is over fried or chemically tasting. Being located in Multnomah Village is another plus. This is the thai restaurant of choice for my wife and I.

  • Jonathan W.

Nice local zone! Really nice food and super nice to sit outside in the summer.

Tried the Basil Herb BBQ Chicken for lunch and it was fantastic. Half a small chicken definitely worth the $7 bucks. Great flavors.

  • Amanda A.

Need some standard Thai food? This place will hit the spot. Not the most amazing Thai food, not the worst either. If you need a perfectly adequate meal, Thai Herbs can give it to you. Pro-Tip: Their Thai Iced Tea is spot on delish.

    (3)
  • Korin W.

Great go to Thai take out. I have never stayed and eaten inside, but when I go to pick up our take out order there usually seems to be a couple of occupied tables. Food is delicious and much better than any Thai chain restaurant (ahem, Thai Orchid). I will definitely eat on their porch once the nice weather comes back.

    (4)
  • Chloe C.

I am a village local and have tried this place quite a few times over the years since they first opened. The food isn't bad, but as I have also read on other reviews sites, the service is not only bad but kind of offensive. For example: my last visit, after sitting down i gave up and walked up to get my own menu, never got a drink refill once we did receive service, and once finished my date went to the counter to get a to-go box for me and they didn't get the hint that we were done eating and ready for our bill. We eventually gave up and walked up to the counter to pay (this all being during a pleasant date with great conversation, we were by no means being impatient) . Example 2: A co worker of mine was eating lunch in the restaurant and had her waitress go on break and pull a cot out of the closet and take a nap in front of her, talk about an awkward lunch! Bottom line, it's a great place to call in a to-go order, but don't bother sitting down.

  • Al C.

The only reason why I find myself in this mediocre restaurant is because it is the only one in my neighborhood. Similar to their neighbors, Journey, you would think that this place would have amazing food because of its really nice patio, but there is nothing special about this place. The food is OK and the waiters are sometimes friendly. Inside is really nice. I sometimes feel like helping them out by being open about my thoughts. They have potential, but are complacent with serving OK Thai food. I recommend going during lunch because their lunch special is pretty good.

  • Sophie K.

I'll keep this short. We ate her twice during the two years we lived here. Mainly because it's so close to our house. After the second time we decided to NEVER go back again. Main reason, the service was really really slow!! The food was okay; the reason for the 1 star. But beware, this place just got written up in Dirty Dinning with a score of 58 - 70 is passing. Knives and cutting boards used with raw chicken were wiped down with paper towels. Horrible!! kptv.com/dirtydining/ind…

Dinner here on 15 October. Pretty good Thai food but appetizer and entree showed up as same time.

  • Mike K.

For take-out, this place rocks...if you live near Multnomah Village. The herb rolls are my favorite "roll" in any Asian restaurant, and their curries are really good (you might think it's hard to screw up a curry, but I've witnessed it). So why only 3 stars? The dine-in service, that's why. The kids who work here are friendly, but for whatever reason they just can't seem to get it together. I can list numerous examples of this, but I think other reviews do a good enough job...I'll just say timing and correctness are critical in food service. Somehow they've never messed up a take-out order, though. It's great to take the food home, but the place is held out to be a restaurant, not a food cart or take-out-only joint (and the prices reflect that).

    (3)
  • Olivia T.

My family and I came here for lunch on Sunday. The place was not that busy. There were three occupied tables and only one server. Service was really slow and food was just so so... I had the Beef Rad Nah and I asked for spicy, but I got mild. I tried Mac's Pad Se Eew and it was just ok. I think if they gave us better service, this place could get three stars, but since the service was really slow, I think two stars is where Thai Herbs at for me.

  • Casey J.

Every now and then, for my boyfriend's sake, I go to Thai restaurants and I find something I can stand to eat. Putting aside my own negative feelings for the cuisine, I am going to comment on service alone. This is obviously a family business. Here's the thing, the kid, and I mean KID they have as a server just doesn't cut it. And I'm not just basing this off of one trip to Thai Herbs, this happens every time I've been there. There's always at least 3 or 4 staff members just sitting around talking. The server seats you, takes your order, brings you your food, and sometimes brings you a bill. I know that those are the essentials to being a server, but come on. No water glass refills? Even after getting up to ask for a box he didn't bring us our bill. We had to get up again to get the bill. He never came by to check on how we were enjoying our meal. It's like get in and get out you know?

  • Kirsten C.

This is a great little place and offers a good variety to the neighborhood. I agree that take-out is your best bet but have not had any significant problem with service, just plan to have a more leisurely meal. We have done well in the summer taking the kiddo and sitting outside and they have lots of outdoor and indoor seating for all weather. I love their mango sticky rice and curries but agree the herb rolls are likely the best item on the menu.

I wanted a quick lunch, so I figured that Thai would be good for that. My food was brought out quickly; I got mussamun curry. It was decent enough, and it wasn't too expensive. My meal came with some soup and spring roll. I probably should have got a noodle dish because the curry was just all right. I'm willing to go here again to see if their dinner menu is good.

Having lived in the neglected SW for the past two years I feel I should get around to writing a review of my local thai joint. First off I feel like I never got the best that Thai Herbs has to offer, and am thus soured on them overall. To start with I always found their food to be pretty on the bland side, with the flavor potential of most standard thai dishes not even being close to realized. I have gotten food to go and eaten in house, but both times left me feeling like I had ordered food and eaten food, but that the experience was devoid of enjoyment. I will say that Thai Herbs has got a great location right in Multnomah Village and on a sunny day when you are craving thai food, it is probably the best that the SW has to offer. I think I may be judging them a little harsh at three stars, but in this city there is steep competition for good thai food, so be it.

Not a big fan. I eat Thai - a lot of Thai - and the two meals I've had here were both mediocre. The Thai iced tea was all condensed milk and felt like drinking a smoothie. Yucky. The food isn't bad, it just isn't worth a trip to SW. If you have zero other options, sure, why not. Otherwise, head downtown and hit up a food cart for 1/2 the price and twice the fun.

I tried this restaurant for the first time on Saturday night and I was kind of disappointed. The ingredients were fresh but everything lacked the complex flavor profiles typical of Thai cuisine.

Ate here yesterday which was a quiet time of day. We were super impressed with the cute decor and outdoor seating. the service and food was good but nothing too exciting. Will probably go again.

Another pet friendly Village spot. The food is above average and the the ingredients seem very fresh. Having previously lived in Chicago, I was spoiled by the ubiquity of cheap delicious Thai spots. Even the cheap spots in Portland are a bit pricey by comparison and the price at Thai Herbs seems about standard. Any Thai restaurant that does not serve Pad Kee Mao, my old stand-by, is at an immediate disadvantage (Damn you Mai Thai!) but of course Thai Herbs has it and it is very good. The curries are also quite tasty and they will spice to your requested level if you ask. The environment is laid-back and the service is friendly. I have not spent much time inside but the scene outside with the picnic tables and multi-colored umbrellas is cheery and the space is ample. Love a place that I can go with my pooch.

Recently visited with a friend on a friday evening. Had the Tom Yum soup and crab rolls and was pretty pleased with both. There was a constant stream of take-out orders, so I guessed that was a lot of their business. It took a few minutes to get the check, but the wait staff was friendly. I'll be back to try more of the menu.

I like Thai Herbs a lot. Their servers and cooks here are super friendly, and put out some great food. The specials are well worth looking into and if you tell them you like it hot, no really I like it spicy, they will make you happy. Not quite cartoon character smoke out the ears but close. I was very happy. I love the pumpkin and squash curries they do and the soups are wonderful. Fresh ingredients really are noticeable in the dishes. I would be tempted to give them 5 stars but the prices are not Thai prices, just a bit too high and lunch prices are not a deal at all but still I love this place and keep going back.

Let's see...overpriced, incredibly slow, rude, C+ food....oh, and dirty! All I had tonight was the Tom kha soup and a salad roll and now I am suffering with horrible gas and explosive diarrhea. We even called our order in 15 minutes ahead and it had to wait almost half and hour after we got there for the food. They are the only Thai joint in Multnomah Village, but take my advice and go somewhere else.

If you live in the area, and have time for slow service, this is your best Thai option without having to head downtown or several miles out in Beaverton. Cashew nut, spicy basil, spicy beef salad, and orange chicken are all very yummy choices. The outdoor seating is also very nice on a sunny afternoon. The food is pretty Americanized, so if you only like very authentic Thai then you better head elsewhere. The fresh salad rolls are yummy.

Neighborhood restaurants are always worth a shot in my mind. Unfortunately, the food was not good and we won't be returning. The food was not fresh; it tasted like it had been in the fridge. I had the pad thai and threw it away. Would not waste my money here despite the convenience.

When I order "spicy" i want "spicy." I want to be tired from all of the heat I endured. So I ordered "spicy" from Thai Herb - and they failed me. Sure, the Pad Kee Mao was tasty, but it did not live up to the spice level I ordered. UPDATE: This food here made me and my girlfriend sickish. Ouch. Spice levels aside, the food was pretty good. The tofu was cooked perfectly and there were some nice crunchy veggies. The egg rolls were standard. They were playing Jack Johnson in the restaurant, which cracked me up for some reason - I'm not sure why.

Great food, though the entree arrived before the appetizer. Friendly service and great outdoor seating.

I warmed my cold bones yesterday with a healthy spicy portion of Po Hang (combination seafood with lemongrass, basil, bell pepper, onion, and mushroom on Thai curry sauce) for $14.00. The Po Hang was labeled one of the hotter items on the menu and it was a bit was spicy, but not too spicy for my taste. Most of the menu items were $7 - $9 with the speciality items running around $11 - $14. I thought the environment was pretty relaxed and the staff was really friendly. With plenty of tables indoors and outdoors, I'm sure to be frequenting Thai Herbs many times during these chilly months and when we can break out some flip-flops!

"Date Visited: Sunday 5/18/08 (Dinner) My Meetup group had an event just down the street and when a couple decided they were going to have dinner at a Thai place they had seen, they invited some of us to join and we went along. It was a beautiful night, so we sat outside on the picnic benches. They seemed okay and the 4 tables comfortably sat the 8 of us. Menus were like laminated placemats, printed on both sides. The food was laid out in a normal fashion with Rice dishes, Noodle Dishes, Curries, etc. Being outside probably has some disadvantages when it comes to an attentive wait staff. Still, I think they did well to come around and take our drink orders. We needed more time to figure out what we wanted, so our server went away and came back about 10 minutes later. I had ordered the Pad See Ew and I wasn't at all disappointed. The tofu was good and the broccoli wasn't overcooked. Portions were what you'd expect at a Thai restaurant. The food was actually 4-star in my opinion. So what dropped it to 3 stars? You may have read from my other Thai reviews that I really enjoy a good Thai Iced Tea, especially when there are free refills. Well.....Thai Herbs doesn't even offer free refills on their sodas! I just refused to get a drink, which would have made the experience better. Also, it was brought up twice that we'd like separate checks, but it was all lumped onto one check at the end. Oh well.

This place is a perfect little neighborhood Thai place. Their Yellow Curry is to die for. Not too sweet and not too spicy. Their basil fried rice is worth a shot too if you like a spicer meal. Their Pad Thai is awful though - way too much fish sauce. They have outdoor picnic tables too, if you are looking for an outdoor place to eat. Service could be improved - but overall the experience is well worth the food.

I can't comment on the service because I always get carry-out but the food is consistently good. Not the best Thai food in the city, but it is in my neighborhood and the pad kee mao is always spot on with just the right amount of spice. The outdoor seating area looks nice for sunny days though all the comments about slow/poor service make me think I will stick with carry-out as it is usually very fast.

I've added this to my "when in Portland, I must visit..." list. I am a non-hacker when it comes to SPICY! There's a lot on the menu here that keeps me happy and flame-free. I like their Pad Thai a lot. They do a good job with the Herb Rolls. It's not destination dining, but the prices are within reason and the service is good. I like it 3 1/2 stars worth.

We live in Hillsdale, and this is our favorite local place to eat for "date night!" We love Thai and this place has great food every time! Very cute location too! I've eaten here four times and we always sit outside!

I just moved to the area about 8 weeks ago and was excited to see that there was a Thai restaurant nearby. Went there for lunch, and it was not a good experience! There seemed to be only one very young man working there that day. I ordered a dish and was surprised that he didn't ask me how spicy I wanted it... it arrived literally within 2 minutes, so clearly microwaved, and was absolutely bland and tasteless. Not a hint of spice or flavor. The server never came back... I finally went to the front to pay... he came out and was very sulky... for the first time ever, I did not leave a tip and I will never go back

Yeah, I wasn't too impressed. Went here for take out once, since it was in the neighborhood, and tried pad thai, pad kee mao, salad rolls, the usuals. I read the review below and I also thought the spice level was too low for me...I mean, the food actually tasted bland. I've never had Thai food with little flavor, so we won't go back. Plus, they screwed up our order (chicken instead of tofu). They were nice enough, though. I would recommend other Thai restaurants in the area.

Great thai food. Don't be alarmed/apprehensive/scared of the house that Thai Herbs is in, the place has been fixed up and is very nice on the inside. In fact, for having such a nice interior and exterior of the restaraunt, I was surprisd to find the meals were relatively inexpensive. The pad thai was great and they put the perfect amount of heat into my dish when I asked to make it "a little spicier" when I ordered. I like the water/drinks in mason jars, and the service was friendly. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for reasonably priced thai food in a very comfortable and clean atmosphere (but not toooo fancy that you can't wear your Def Leppard t-shirt).

I agree with other reviewers that the wait staff in this restaurant are inattentive. However they are VERY friendly, and do not seem put out by my tendencies to get aggressive about not being waited on. Frankly, the feel to this restaurant is extremely authentic to most of the experiences i had in Thailand. And their food is great! I love the mussaman curry, specifically, but haven't had anything i would not order again. If you want to have a conversation without interruption, bring your own water and enjoy the person you're with!

Set in a converted house in Multnomah Village, Thai Herbs has the ambience of a cheap & cheerful cafe. So probably not the best place for a first date. The food, however, is fantastic - and the Pumpkin Curry is to die for. What else do you need to know? Go!

I'm just a visitor to this little village. And from what I can tell there isn't much diversity in this town. With that being said, the Thai ice tea was yummy (but how can you mess that up) and the appetizers where good too. But the service was a bit unorganized and the meal made my tummy hurt. With that said I probably won't be going back on my next visit, although you could sit outside on picnic tables and the weather was lovely (so I'll add a star for that)

This is actually an update on my original review: I've probably eaten at least another twenty meals from Thai Herbs since my last post, and all of them have been good. But I've added another couple of favorite dishes to my list! My old favorites ares still: 1) Mango Tango 2) Pad Woon Sen and 3) Glass Noodles Pad Thai. My new favorites are 4) Cashew Nut --such a great sauce with sweet thai chili paste, I think -- and it's got those baby corncobs that I adore, lots of crunchy cashews, and I order it with beef, which tastes like it has a great marinade, and is also slightly chewy in this dish, but in a good way 5) Spicy Garlic -- I never thought the description of this one in the menu sounded insteresting (garlic and cabbage? that's it?) -- but my friend ordered it, and I was hooked after one bite. The peppery flavor is incredibly addictive -- the week after I first tried it, I came back and ordered it THREE TIMES! Holy cow, not good for the pocketbook, esp. when I have a perfectly good working stove! The one drawback to this one is that sometimes the beef is a little too tough (and not in a good way, as in the Cashew Nut dish), but when it's good it's INCREDIBLE, like Dinner Crack or something just as irresistible. 6) When it's in season, the sweet sticky rice with fresh mango is even more addictive than the Spicy Garlic Beef. The sweet sticky rice is made with coconut milk and it's -- it's -- I can't even explain it -- it's chewy and nutty and perfectly paired with sweet slippery mango slices. I get so distressed when I realize there's only a couple of bites left because I always eat it too fast! When I was most hooked on this one, I used to go in and get two orders to go, no dinner, just dessert. Ahhhhh, I wish I hadn't thought of it, because it's 4:30 a.m. and they're not open now! :( Anyway, that's the update. I didn't eat here as much over the summer, because I had a huge vegetable garden keeping me busy with my own cooking for several months, but now that the rain's coming down, I'm back to my weekly (at LEAST) take-out. I love Thai Herbs!

i will preclude this by saying that, being a server and dining out at everything from the hole in the wall, funkiest, greasiest spoons to 5*s and counting, even so, i am a bit forgiving. there is still something to be said for atmosphere . . . but first, the food. the veggie appetizer rolls wrapped in rice paper were pretty nice with the dipping sauce and their version of tom kha gai soup was interesting, less mild coconutty and more red spicy. our entrees were decent and plentiful too and the servers and as i noted we were sat at the last empty table in the place, the servers and assistants were steadily refilling water and smiling as they brought to-go boxes, clearly wanting to free up some real estate and not have an open tables. The pleasant enough indie music helped to drown out the loud, jerkish diner who talked loudly behind us (couldn't be helped, i realize). but the one thing that truly irritated me was the lighting. we were seated at a smallish table running down the center and flanked by larger tables, which already makes one feel singled out and a bit uncomfortable. For some reason, our drop spotlight above was focused and beaming down on us like a showroom . . . it was mega-retail Walmart/grocery store level bright, while some of the windows closer to the door and front windows seemed to be in near darkness, or comparitively, better mood-lit. They may benefit from some candles and to take the dimmer down a notch so diners aren't blinded.

Food's OK. But last visit was a nightmare experience, so we wont go back. We were seated next to a smelly restroom. There was a hair in our shrimp. Waiter totally forgot about us and never refilled our water.

Thai Herbs is a mind f*ck. Sometimes they are spot on with timing (as far as TAKE-OUT goes) ...and then you'll have the random TERRIBLE experience. Since my original review, my husband and I ordered take-out and were quoted "50 minutes".. *sigh* okay, good for them, they must be busy. Knowing that they don't have the best reputation for being timely, my husband gave them a full hour before arriving. Sure enough he ended up having to wait an additional 10 minutes before our order was ready! That's 20 minutes over what they had quoted us!! That's the amount of time it probably took for them to prepare the entire order..which is very frustrating..especially since he said there were only three tables of patrons, ALL of which had yet to order.. what do the workers of Thai Herbs do all day? While my husband waited, he got to enjoy the company of other people waiting on their 2 take-out orders; as well as enjoyed the drama of a man who had come in to complain of his credit card being double-charged by them earlier in the week. What a sh*t show. So of course we swear off Thai Herbs after this. Fast forward a month or so when we are feeling weak with cravings for thai and too lazy to seek out anywhere further than Thai Herbs..we decide to give them yet another shot. This time (which was the most recent.. sometime in July) was PERFECT! Our order was piping hot and ready to go upon our pick-up (which was on time with what they had told us) Then we got home to enjoy the surprise of complimentary rolls that we had NEVER been given before..what a treat! So yet again, Thai Herbs won us back over. We were hoping that maybe they had turned a new leaf, and that this will be the new trend..we shall see! To be continued!

having moved from NE portland where fantastic thai restaurants are plentiful, we've been looking for a thai place that rivals that of our former hood. we had high hopes for thai herbs, but were disappointed by our meal. the pad thai was a little heavy on the fish sauce, but was good, overall. the lemongrass chicken had a sauce that was delicious, but the portion of chicken was laughable. not only was it a scant 1/8th inch thick, there were only about 8 skinny slices for the fat price of $9.50. i only wish i was exaggerating. it wasn't enough chicken to feed one adult, let alone share. i would like to think it's because we ordered our food late in the evening and they didn't have any more chicken to spare... but i'm doubtful. we will likely give thai herbs a second chance, but i'll be sure to have an appetizer beforehand.
