Everything was fresh, perfectly cooked and spiced. The service was friendly and attentive. Great to have this in the neighborhood.

My favorite dish Pad Kee Mao has very good flavor (Garlic, basil, and spicy). Texture of the noodle is good. Also, I always get the papaya salads w/o shrimp paste and their appetizer chicken wings (Crispy and a touch of sweetness). Always great service!!!! I haven't given this place a 5 star yet because I haven't tried their other dishes.

Just got carry-out and it's pretty good, I'd give it a 3.5 if I could. I often try the chicken drunken noodles and this one has good broccoli and other veggies in it. I really have trouble finding good broccoli in Thai and Chinese around here so this is a big plus for me. The noodles weren't greasy either but a bit chewy. The chicken was okay but a tad dry. The medium definitely has a kick. Overall, pretty good.

The food is outstanding, and the service is fast and friendly. We had Pad Kee Mao and Spicy Green Beans, and both were spiced just right and seasoned deliciously. Highly recommended.

Papaya salad is great even though its not on the menu. Tom kha soup is great also.

Excellent. Place clean and nicely decorated. Server friendly and helpful. Ordered three dishes all very tasty. Prices very reasonable. We will be back.

Grand Opening, under new ownership. Beautifully remodeled, serving fresh, fast authentic Thai food at great prices with excellent service. Open everyday: Monday - Thursday 11am to 9:30, Friday 11am to 10pm, Saturday 12pm to 10pm, and Sunday 12pm - 9:30pm.

Went in with the boyfriend because we had a groupon. I haven't eaten too much Thai food to have a comparison but I enjoyed my meal very much. Got the Pad See Ew and the veggies were crispy and well seasoned. The service was also great as they were constantly checking on us and refilling our beverages. I'm definitely curious enough to go another time and try something else.

The food here is excellent. A few years ago I had gone to the thai restaurant previously at this location. The food was horrible. I just moved close by and was hoping to find a great neighborhood Thai place and I read that there was a new restaurant at this location. I was amazed to find the food was fantastic and beyond what I had hoped for. I recommend the Thai Basil stir fry and noodles, and the Green Curry. The food is fresh and full of flavor, and the staff is friendly. Highly recommended.

Service was pretty bad when we went: our female, teenaged server didn't seem to understand English very well and after agreeing to our requests (another lime, our bill, etc.) wouldn't show up. We also asked for a mild curry with some pepper sauce on the side and it definitely came out hot (I could barely eat it). The thai iced tea was great and fairly priced, although a bit too sweet. The pad thai was decent, although pretty gloppy and not very many veggies--basically just noodles and chicken. The panang curry was quite tasty, but it was more like a soup with the ratio of sauce to tofu/veggies. Overall, not horrible, but we prefer Pad Thai Kitchen on Belmont or My Thai Bistro a few blocks away.

I've been here multiple times now. The food is consistently delicious; better than all the other Thai restaurants I've been to in Portland, even the more expensive restaurants. Flavors are deep and and the ingredients are fresh. Prices are not cheap, but also reasonable considering how yummy the food is.

We were very impressed with the food here!! Very good!! Also the service was wonderful! The waiter was exceptional!! The food was presented on the plates really beautifully!! We were very impressed! We will bring our whole family next time I'd highly recommend this restaurant to anyone wanting good service and wonderful food!! Highly recommended!!

Great service and delicious Thai fare. It's hard to order deep into the menu only because it's too easy to get hooked on the classics. Decent beer selection too. If Por Que No is too busy across the street, come on over and get the Pad See Ew!

Visiting from out of town. I've had a lot of Thai food over the years. The flavor profiles are on point. Coconut soup was excellent, pad Thai solid. Previous reviews stayed that the chicken satey was really good. I normally find it difficult to say chicken satey is really good, but it was. The chicken was tender and the flavors once again were on point. The menu is a stereotypical Thai menu. No tricks or gimmicks just solid Thai. Oh, the service was excellent.

If you are looking for information on appearance or ambience. Please look at other reviews. I will stick with the food. They offer a typical lunch special menu. All the favorites are there. Kung Po. Cashew Chicken. Etc.etc. You have a choice between chicken. pork shrimp or beef. Nothing out of the ordinary but also what you would expect. Two stars just for being what you say you are. The food came out and it was a great presentation. Seems to be the typical now. Dish on one side and the rice on the other neatly stacked or shaped in this case. It all looked rather pleasing. Plenty of flavor upon the first bite. I ordered the Spinach and Brocoli with Chicken. However there seemed to be something under the initial appearance. That something being water. The sauce was completly watered down. Losing its initial flavor as it went down. Near the end nothing but a watery mess as it seperated more and more fro. its original combination. I will say this. I wanted to give it four stars i really did. The waiter is super friendly fast attentive to every need. Works the entire restaurant himself. as others have noted. but Alas this is about the food. The food needs to stand alone. I am all for a place that looks nice and is clean but there needs to be food that i can say hey i would recommend this to a good friend and here is why. I wouldnt recommend this place with so many other options so close by. I would say if you are hungry and in a hurry for some Thai this place is open and the owner is very nice service will be fast. Sorry other Yelpers i dont seem to agree with you on this one. The food is watered down at best

Riding through this area I remember I hadn't eaten, and it was dinner time, I mean, what's up with that? I scoped them out and read some decent reviews so I locked my bike up and went inside. The vibe is a bit weird, it was an older guy behind the bar taking care of business, and that was about it. He brought me water and silverware fast, was VERY polite, and gave me plenty of time to go over the menu. The dining area appears pretty clean, nothing terribly offensive of note, and the theme was consistent. I decided on a quick snack and selected the spring rolls - which are a bit different than you'd expect - and a side of sticky rice. The waiter checked up on me twice while waiting for my food (really) and was again attentive after I started eating. The rolls were crispy fried and smaller than usual but stuffed with a very tasty mix. Dunked in the orange sauce and mixed with a bit of sticky rice and I was back on my feet in less than a half hour, under $10 and ready to go. I'll try this one again if I'm in the area. I haven't had the chance to try other Thia places in PDX yet so this may be updated.

Everything was very fresh. The vegetables in my stirfry were very fresh and plentiful. The tofu was fresh (you'd be surprised at how this is not the case in all places near here) and flavorful. The service was good too. I asked for brown rice and they were happy to accommodate. The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars (I would give it 4 and a half if I could) is because despite one person in my party ordering "mild" and another ordering a level of spice above that, they tasted about the same... maybe they were hesitant to make it too hot for wimpy Americans? Luckily there was a spice tray so we added some heat.

Wanted a very simple clear broth soup with noodles and chicken for my 3 year old son. Very flavorful and tasty. Also their vegetable egg rolls are delicate and delicious. Service was very hospitable like going to a family member. Go it's great.

This place is awesome! Everything is super fresh and the service is fast. The owner is wonderful and interacts with his customers. The Tom Kha soup was amazing and so was the red curry and pad Thai; all had the perfect amount of spice! The Thai iced tea was also delicious! We will be back again and again!

The owner and cook was a WONDERFUL host, and the food was also dee-LISH-ous. My husband and I were well-dined, served, and made for to feel like we were in a European cafe or restaurant from the manner of the host/owner. The prices, however, were wonderfully accessible. Ka pun ka, Thai Dish.

I recently went here for dinner with my father as he had been here many times and always raves about it. He had the pineapple fried rice and I had the massaman curry, both of which were amazing! I asked if we could have the fried rice without chicken, and if I could just do a vegetable massaman, both of which he was happy to modify. Also, he (I assume the owner?) made us feel like we could stay and drink the wonderful house tea there as long as we would like. I can't wait to come back here soon and try the pad thai :)

Unbeatable thai food! This is my favorite thai restaurant in Portland. Price is reasonable, food is superb, and the owner is extremely friendly. Don't miss this spot.

The owner here is so sweet! He is a wonderful host and his pad thai is the bomb. I suggest their chicken pad thai (shrimp are overcooked and scarce). The flavor is awesome though! Coconut soup is also great for people who can handle a little spice. Very convenient location and lovely ambiance.

Portland is so saturated with Thai restaurants and most of them have let me down at one time or another. However, Thai Dish has been consistently above average. The food is tasty (as an added bonus, the pineapple fried rice comes in a hollowed-out pineapple) and the service is above and beyond. I've typically seen the same guy working there and he is one of the friendliest people I have ever met in the service industry. They're not usually too busy (mostly carryout orders) so there's never a wait on a table and the food comes pretty quickly. It's not the closest Thai restaurant to my house but it's the one I go to the most. It's got seating, great services, great food, and the price is reasonable.

I honestly eat Thai dish about 2 times per week, every week. THIS IS THE BEST THAI FOOD IN PORTLAND. We've tried a variety of dishes and each one kills in its own way. Such a wide variety of flavors and dishes! The man that is working there literally every time I go is one of the friendliest people in the food industry and you can really tell how much he cares about his job. This is hands down my go-to meal!

My husband and I were out celebrating our 3rd year anniversary. We walked down in Hawthorne and decided to try this place. We didn't want to do anything fancy this year just a night out. Owner of this place was so nice he gave us free thai tea. Our food was beyond delicious! We order chicken pad Thai, beef larb and pineapple fried rice!! Thumps up for all 3 dishes!!!

Wow this is the best Thai food in Portland! Plus the customer service was excellent - very nice and friendly servers. I had the salad rolls which had a delicious peanut sauce. I had a spicy noodle dish which was huge and delicious. The thai iced tea was also huge and for a great price. I felt right at home when I sat at a booth - they let me stay and charge my phone there. I was given hot tea and chatted with the owner who was very sweet. Excellent place to grab food and relax!

Thai dish made my Friday a happier, fattier place to be. Pickup was ready within 15 minutes of my order, and the bag weighed a freaking ton (the ultimate takeout pass/fail). Spicy basil noodles were hot and wide, a bit greasy, but popping with tasty tofu and broccoli. The curry fried rice was giant, with bits of crispy fried basil in every other other bite. My girl liked it best, but I thought the chicken was weirdly dry. The summer rolls were like the bastard child of plastic wrap and dashed hopes. Skip that ish. Pro tip: Refry BOTH sets of leftovers together the next night and serve with a glass of poor kid wine. Ladies love it.

Thai Dish prepares food complete with full-bodied flavor. Served with a warm peanut sauce, the salad rolls were delicious and had the perfect balance of mint and other veggies. More sauce would have been nice but overall they are worth an order or two for the table. Chicken Phad Thai was excellent - One of the best I've had in Portland. The Spicy Basil Noodles were good as well. Not too spicy but still a kick. Groupon redemption was easy. If I'm in the area and craving Phad Thai I'll be coming back here. Probably ordering take out though. The dining room only had one other couple in it while we were here for dinner (7:00pm on a Wednesday), but I suspect a majority of their business is take-out which may be explained by the event that took place mentioned below. There was only one really weird thing: From the time we sat down to the time we left there was an employee of the restaurant standing by the kitchen, facing the dining room, and staring at the customers. Every time a water glass would become more than one-third empty she would rush over and fill it up. It was very unnerving and I felt as though I was being watched the whole time. I'm sure this wasn't the case and that the intention of the restaurant was to make sure no one ever ran out of water, but it made for a weird eating experience.

After arriving from San Francisco and heading to our stay in Portland, we walked over to Thai Dish. Very clean restaurant with the sweetest host/waiter. He welcomed us with a very kind demeanor. It was not very loud in the restaurant, which also kept the conversation easy and comfortable. The service was very efficient. We order the egg rolls, Thai iced teas, beef massaman and spicy basil noodle. The servings were very filling and delicious! We love Thai food and have become quite particular about it. This was very good -- the meat was tender, the curry was rich and flavourful. We would definitely recommend this place to friends and would return again.

We tried Thai Dish out on a Saturday evening and didn't need to wait for a booth. We also appreciated the air conditioning during Portland's heat wave. The owner/manager was so very sweet, talkative, and helpful, and the wait staff kept us well-hydrated. Both our dishes were delicious (mine was coconut milk soup with tofu) and affordable. No complaints at all, and if we lived here we'd be back again soon.

I really loved this restaurant! The service was outstanding. I had the chow mein (not typically Thai) with tofu and it was wonderful. Thai Dish makes a great Thai iced tea with coconut milk. Again, the service was great. Make sure to leave a tip.

Quiet, nicely appointed restaurant with owner doing everything on a Wednesday early evening. He gave us lots of time to choose food as we were distracted by our own conversation. Quiet made conversation easy. My dining partner is vegetarian so we made a lovely combination with the superb eggplant stir fry from the specialty menu and asked him to toss in some green beans (in season). Eggplant was delectable Asian eggplant, tender where still stunning bright purple. Delicious. other dish was tofu stir fry with basil and spinach and other yummies. I was travelling with a queasy stomach. from. meds anyway, so we weren't being hot radicals. food was presented artfully and FAST. Rice portion was oddly small and dishes were not generous, but enough. (thus loss of one star), I will go again, as its close to home and prices were within reasonable range, though my son prefers Sivalaya on Stark any day.

I came here with a groupon deal. It wasn't busy when I came and that usually is a red flag, but I tried to ignore it because it was the afternoon. The service was good, the woman was friendly but she would walk away real fast and I wouldn't be quite done talking to her. I got to eat pineapple fried rice out of a pineapple and that was exciting because I love gimmicks like that! I also got pad see ew and enjoyed it. My gf got the pad Thai and thought it was too sweet and mushy. I thought it was different but enjoyed how sweet it was. All the food was pretty average and I give this place a solid three stars.

I love this restaurant and it is my favorite place to eat thai food in the area. You have to try their noodle dishes! Pad Thai is my favorite, it tastes authentic and comes in a large portion with lots of meat, or tofu. Their yellow curry is also delicious. Everything I have eaten here has been enjoyed and tastes like it was made with care. I would also recommend the spring rolls as an appetizer. They also have a good lunch special during weekdays. Friendly and fast service, it is definitely worth checking this place out.

Pros: the service is good and efficient. Prices are reasonable. Their best that I tried was Chicken Satay. cons: not much of flavor. Some ingredients were not fully cooked such as vegetables, eggplant, etc. And we're still firm. Ambience could improve significantly. Overall average to just good.

Thai Dish is one of my favorite places to dine at on Hawthorne, especially when I'm looking for something spicy and filling. The service is always good and they are very attentive, however it pains me to rate it one star because of the quality of food served has dropped along with customer satisfaction. I came here with a big group of people and we've all had Thai food before, so we weren't strangers to the menu. We all ordered the pad kee Mao which is suppose to have wide noodles sautéed in sauce meat and veggies. What arrived at our table of 8 was nothing to be considered noodles. Each one of our dishes, I repeat, EACH ONE looked like a pile of mush and veggies. The noodles weren't even shaped anymore, they were broken in scattered chunks of sogginess and drowned in sauce. You couldn't even pick them up with chopsticks because that's how soggy they were! My friend who ordered the pumpkin curry had his appetite taken. It was overly sweet and didn't really have much pumpkin or substance inside of it (barely any meats) they pretty much served him a bowl of pumpkin juice with a small side of rice for 10$+ When the waitress lady came by and asked how our food was, I mentioned to her in a soft voice that the noodles were overcooked and had asked if she could fix it. She simply just nodded and never came back. She then sent another waiter to our table and he only asked my friends what they thought about their food, they quietly poked at their plates and said it was OK. Since they are so soft spoken compared to me it was hard for them to reply. When it came time to pay I went to the register and again mentioned how dissatisfied I was with the quality, and all the lady said was thank you then nodded sheepishly. I was disappointed. No attempt to adjust our food whatsoever! The water refills came aplenty but that was it. If you're going to dine here I suggest you are very very firm about how you want your food!!! They will take advantage of your shyness for profits!

I left this place pretty happy! Walking down Hawthorne, I was thinking of trying a thai place. I had the pad thai with chicken and no shrimp (what I have at like every thai restaurant). It was a little saucy, but otherwise I thought it was great. I went with my mom and she had the beef curry. I'm not a big fan of the flavor of curry, but she ate it all! We got a complimentary cup of soup in the beginning, delicious. And also the fried egg rolls were pretty good. Only complaint was that there was only 1 waitress (wasn't too busy though) and she went in the back a lot and helped other customers and we had to ask for the bill and stuff. Not that big of a deal, but it was annoying having to get up and ask. I would recommend at least trying this place! The inside is also very beautifully decorated, I liked it. Definitely going back to try it out again.

I didn't catch his name or whether or not he was the owner, but the man who helped us was so friendly and wonderful. Over the top awesome. The coconut curry soup was some of the best thom kah I've ever had, in the states or in Thailand.

We used to come here years ago when it was Thai Thai, and got tired of the mediocre food. When lines were too long at Apizza Scholls, we decided to give Thai Dish a try and were happy on all counts: gracious and friendly service from the manager, seated right away, and above all, really tasty food attractively presented for a reasonable price. Was there with my teen daughter, so couldn't be so adventurous with the menu this time, but enjoyed the veggie salad rolls, pad seeyew, and chicken fried rice. Will be making this our regular neighborhood Thai place!

We came here because we saw the Groupon deal and wanted to give it a try. We got here around closing but had very quick service. Our server checked in regularly and made sure everything was good. I ordered the chicken yellow curry and my girlfriend ordered the cashew chicken. Both dishes were awesome. We got served a big bowl of rice and then our entrees. The curry was pretty spicy but i didn't specify mild so I'm sure they will do that for you. The portions were large enough for to-go boxes. Everything tasted very fresh. I would definitely recommend especially with the Groupon as you could get two entrees for the 10 dollar cost of the certificate.

The service was prompt and pleasant. We had thai ribs, which surprisingly were not served with any rice. They were good, nothing special. Same goes for the Pad Thai. It's typical Thai food. Nothing will knock your socks off, but it's decent food.

Best service of any restaurant in Portland! Had a vegan pad thai that they made special for me and it was delicious. The staff went to great lengths to ask about our dishes and make us feel welcomed. Will definitely be returning soon for some delicious food and great service.

Places like this are kind of a thing of the past. Thai food is better than this, and there's people in Portland doing a better job than this. Spicy basil noodles were not spicy or flavorful (not counting the flavor of carrot) and contained hardly any basil. The chix satay was fried not grilled (??) and peanut sauce was weak and boring. Guys ... people aren't stupid ... if there's 5 people in your restaurant at 12 noon ... there might be a reason. You have to try harder than this. People have choices about where to get food. It's 2015 ... read the press ... look at all the places that are pushing Thai food to the glorious place that it deserves ... not making watered-down quasi-Chinese-American style "traditional" Thai and calling it a day. Maybe I just didn't get the right things but nothing I had would make me come back. The service was warm and great and the prices were reasonable but the food was very MEH. Step it up! :)

When here on Groupon deal and enjoyed pad Thai and pad Kee Mao. Both chicken and tofu dishes were good. It was a slow time which I enjoyed and the service was friendly. I give it five stars because they're really doing a good job with the Thai food. I do have a preference to a slightly different kind of thai food. But this food was hot fresh tasty and had a good level of spice.

We like this but a few other Thai restaurants in SE come to mind before I mark Thai Dish as the place to go for good Thai & service. I've been here a couple times. The first time was top notch which was the reason for my second visit. I'm guessing we came at the wrong time; early evening. We had a larger group & the place was packed. Two young gals were the only two servers on the floor. They were flustered, confused, anxious & not at all prepared for all the customers. It took about 15 minutes just to get a server to take our order & another 30 for our food to arrive. The server didn't know what was what & whose was whose. She looked at us for guidance & then just laid the plates down & walked away. Luckily we knew what ingredients we were expecting in our entrees & could figure it out from there. We asked for rice & she questioned whether we should get rice at all. She guessed we did. Gee, thanks. The presentation of the food was not at all like my first visit. A couple entrees looked like left overs from other customers, scraped onto a new plate, warmed under a heat lamp & given to us because we happened to order the same thing the previous customers didn't finish eating. The pineapple stir fry & lemongrass chicken were room temperature to cold & the veggies were raw. The pad kee mao had only a handful of wide noodles; they were just mushy & unpleasant to eat. I felt bad for suggesting we eat here & hope to have a better experience in the future. I know Thai Dish can be good. Third times a charm.

Better tom kha gai than Pad Thai Kitchen (sorry guys, I still love your drunken noodles!), great creamy, tangy goodness and no overkill on the mushrooms. Cashew nut chicken was great too. Beautiful place and lovely staff. And the cheap wine is seriously cheap! Like $3 if I recall. (I'm always keepin it classy over here). Definitely going back.

It was convenient so we came here for dinner before heading over for a pretty hipster experience at Float On down the street. Chicken Satay - good. Basic, nothing to rave home about. Tom Yum Soup - good, perfect flavors and hit the spot just right. Red Curry w/ Duck - BAD. They put pineapple in this and it warps the taste of this red curry completely. It left such a bad taste in my mouth, I couldn't focus on anything else but this. Overall... if you're going to order anything but the red curry, I think you'll have a great experience. But since we did and this place was not all around great... I can't give this place more than 3 stars.

We came here with a Groupon deal. Service was fantastic, but then again, we got there at 2pm. The lady never missed a beat filling our water and very attentive. Pad Kee Mao with medium spice: Wasn't bad nor was it fantastic. Noodles were a little mushy, kinda clumpy and very greasy, but the flavors were there. Chinese sausage: I don't know why we got this. But super super greasy! But again wasn't bad nor fantastic. I feel like there are other better Thai places in the area but if I go back, I would definitely try the Tom Yum Soup!

We decided to come here instead of Toji across the street. The prices were outrageous and our server was so rude! The food at Thai Dish was good and the prices were right. It's a family establishment and the service was awesome. Our server was attentive and very sweet!

I tried this place on a lark, as I normally order take- out from Phad Thai Kitchen on Belmont. And since PTK wasn't open yet, I stopped into Thai Dish out of desperation. (I was in that "oh, my stars and garters, I'm going to chew my own arm off if I don't eat right now!!" space... It wasn't pretty.) Well, I walk in, and the first thing I see is the friendly face of the woman behind the counter, smiling back at me. As she is walking to one of her few early afternoon tables, she turns to me as she passes, and says "I'll be right with you." Whoa. Mind blown. (If you live in Portland, you know that while we are getting attention on the national stage for our restaurant scene, restaurant staff customer service is a little lagging, if not actually awful in some cases. Anyway, she comes over within a few minutes and I place my order. (To go, I should mention...) I decided to order a glass of white wine while I was waiting, and because it was $3.50 a glass, I suspected I knew what I was in for- cheap, super chilled, and almost to the top of the glass. Well, I was right. And you know what, somehow, it was perfect. Crappy and perfect, after a long, long day. This is when I get a chance to look around, a bit. The place definitely has a "DIY decorated" feel to it- the decorative cut-outs along the ceiling are made of particle board- unpainted, and lined with those plastic tube lights. But it feels cozy and clean, nonetheless. The food came out quickly- I hadn't come close to finishing my wine, but she made a point not to rush me out the door, as she encouraged me to stay and enjoy the rest of my wine. When I got the food home a few minutes later (I live nearby), my BF and I were delighted by our take out- fresh, flavorful phad thai- and PERFECTLY spicy! (BTW, "medium" has a little lip-tingle "kick to it which I find perfect, so if you don't like spiciness (you know Thai food IS SPICY, right?) definitely ask for mild. I have been back a few times since. And while I agree with some other reviewers that the flavors have varied a little- it hasn't tasted exactly the same each time- it's still pretty good for the price (and, for me, location). I came here with a friend the other day, and the phad see ew was YUMMY as well. I should finally go ahead and mention that I have never been in during the dinner rush, only during off-peak times, so I can't speak to a customer's potential experience then. Recap? Good, comfy, no-frills phad thai with good service. Clean atmosphere. Really lovely, attentive, prompt service. We will be back.

I'm going to go ahead and say it's a standard Thai place in Portland. However, listen to the others (as I did not)--this place actually does spice right! I went for hot and got spiced out, but that's almost never the case elsewhere in Portland. That's one thing they do well! Flavors are fine. I agree they're a little shy on protein and have unusual vegetable choices for some of their dishes, but I don't mind variety between places at all. I just wish they included more vegetables and protein in their servings. Portions are all right. Staff is very nice. I ordered to go and the woman taking my order offered me water while I waited. There were maybe three other tables in the restaurant eating (very slow, it was early dinner) but my order took a while. They had probably just opened for dinner. Standard Portland Thai, I could see it being a staple if I tried their other unique offerings. But remember. They are not playing around with their spice levels. For once, a place that actually means hot!

My first visit to Thai Dish was on my way to a class at Mount Tabor. I was in a hurry and had to eat in my car in the parking lot. I always get Pad Thai because a) I'm very new to Thai food, and b) I LOVE IT. I should have been more forward and explicit in my order because I said medium for the spice and it was so hot I thought my lips were melting and I couldn't finish it. I also felt very bad for my classmates who had to deal with my dragon breath. Fast forward about a year and I went again with my roommate after ferreting out the Powell's on Hawthorne. She and I both stressed mild on the spice, and that is exactly what we got. It might be a litle pricey for the portion, but I know it's also the neighborhood. I won't go out of my way for this restaurant, but I do always think about it when I'm in the Hawthorne area.

This is the most variable restaurant I've yet seen: 4-5 stars for good, attentive service without any deficiencies. The regular waitress there is always nice and on top of things. 4 stars for the Pad Woon Sen bean curd noodles with pea pods and chicken; great flavor, noodles were just right 3 stars for the beef salad: lots of fish sauce and iceburg lettuce, but the beef had fantastic flavor and was really tender; a bit spendy for $9 2 stars for the "special" eggplant stirfry: This was the oiliest/greasiest chinese food dish I have ever had! Admittedly, a lot of asian sauces have some kind of oil base to their sauces, but this was essentially all oil, and no sauce, and that's not even including the oil that was absorbed by the eggplant! :-( I actually liked the spices & fried tofu, which is the only saving grace from the dreaded 1-star I was here about a year ago and prices seem to have gone up, but it's still not outrageous. It's still an ok 3-star experience, but given the over dozen other thai places in a 3mi radius, not to mention thai carts, I think they're just average (similar quality to Thai E-San food cart dishes that only run $5-6)

Up the street from Apizza Scholls and JaCiva's Chocolates and down from Por Que No on busy Southeast Hawthorne Boulevard, I'm always baffled that there aren't more people in Thai Dish when I visit. The food and service are always good. The Tom Yum Goong, the shrimp version of the classic hot and sour soup, is among the best I've tasted. The Spicy Basil dish, with chile and garlic, bell pepper, onions and Thai basil, with choice of meat, tofu or added vegetables, is very tasty, as is the kee mao. On a sad note, the Thai barbecue chicken seemed overcooked and dry.

Good food - if they would take down the hideous rope lights, it would be a great setting. Short on staff (I'm seeing a lot of that lately), good size portions... Did I mention the food was good? I had my go-to Panang Curry Chicken - I ordered it "hot" and it was where I was hoping for. I've been to a few places who don't seem to want to believe me when I ask for hot, but they did a great job. Very flavorful, a bit of heat, probably in the top 5 out of the 30-35 places I have tried this over the years. SWMBO had the pad-thai and wow - very tasty, great texture, nicely presented. The boy child had spicy green beans with pork - he asked for "hot" as well, he liked the food but thought it could have been hotter. When I looked at the beans and saw them liberally sprinked with pepper flakes, I was skeptical. I tried some - and while I liked them, they were "hot". (SWMBO stayed away from them as well as the girl) The girl child had the pineapple fried rice - this is quite a production as it is served in a hollowed out pineapple! Very impressive presentation, great tasting. We all felt the portions were larger here than the similarly named restaurant in Canby, the prices were less expensive, the service was maybe a little slower in Portland. The food here is great, I wont shy away from going back - in fact, there are several dishes I need to try to make sure it's as good as I think it is... It might take several visits before I can be confident.... tough work, but someone has to do it.

We came in on a Friday night and were greeted and served right away. We had the Phad Thai, Spicy Basil Noodles, and sticky rice with mango. All were great. The server warned us that some of the dishes are made very spicy so I went with mild for my noodles and it still had a good amount of spice in it, so I'm happy I was warned as I typically order hot. The Phad Thai was not too spicy though. The sticky rice with mango was very good.

Like many other reviewers I purchased a groupon and made a trip to try it out. We were the only ones there at around 2 on a weekday save for a couple of take out orders. The young woman serving us was pleasant and an average amount of attentive. The place is small and clean and has a great photo of the Thai Dish Dodgeball team on the front counter and a very beautiful Thai tapestry on the wall. We both ordered Thai iced tea and salad rolls to start. Tasty. I had the red curry with shrimp and my companion had the 3 flavor fish. Both were good. This is servicable fresh decent food that is nothing special. If I lived in the neighborhood I would probably eat there semi regularly and I would definitely eat there again but I probably wouldn't make a point of it.

I went here a few times with friends for dinner. Every single time, service was good and quick. The food tasted great all the time, and was clearly made in a good way. The place inside is nice, has a good view of Hawthorne if you sit by the windows, and the seats are comfy. Never had problems here, and will visit again.

This is place is authentic, flavorful, and they make it hot if you like it that way. When I was eating there was a guy who wanted to know if certain items were vegan or if their tofu was GMO. The server was confused and so was I. Go here for the real deal, go to the vegan cafe for your next Portlandia episode.

We came here with a Groupon and spent a total of 22.99. We had a leftover balance of $2.99 and the waitress refused our card because the balance was less than $5. She barely explained this and walked away without saying anything else. If she didn't walk away so quick we would have ordered something else to go. That is beyond rude! There are no signs that indicate a $5 balance requirement anywhere that is visible in the restaurant. I'm thinking they did this because of the Groupon. On top of that, the Pad See Ewe was mushy (noodles reminded me of the instant bagged frozen Pad Thai noodles) and portions were a bit on the skimpish side. I had the shrimp and I got three whole pieces. Whoa! Let's not go overboard on the shrimp guys! Wouldn't want to spoil my appetite with more than three pieces of shrimp!! There are too many great thai places in this area to ever go back to this place. The girl with the glasses could use a training on customer service. Go down a couple of blocks to another thai restaurant. You aren't missing out on anything.

Comparable to what I had in Thailand, maybe more like a spectacular home cuisine from southeast Asia. Conveniently located on Hawthorne in the food district, Thai Dish is operated by a kind couple who attends very well to their customer's needs. I enjoy the dining atmosphere--beautiful Thai arts on the walls, comfortable lighting, and somewhat private booths by the windows as you survey the busy street at your causal meal. As mentioned by previous reviewers, their Pad Kee Mao was tangy, spicy, delicious yet not overloaded with greasy and carb, topped with lots of veggies and fragrant fresh basil. Duck fried rice was tasty too. As for the Massaman beef curry, I thought it was a little watery, under-flavored, not quite coconutty enough, and the peanuts were hard. Luckily the beef steak chunks were cooked tenderly to just the right texture. Overall, not bad. Perhaps I'll try other curries next time along with their fantastic noodle dishes. We order Mango sticky rice for dessert every time we go to a Thai restaurant. Here, they had the perfect chewy sticky rice topped with coconut cream milk. The mango unfortunately was not from Thailand and unripened, therefore its flavor couldn't complement the rice like Thai mangoes can.

Bought some dishes, some of them were ok. Nothing special. The portion is small, so it's a little expensive. We ordered ribs... strangely some were hot and the rest were COLD. I meant, REALLY bloody cold like they just took them out of the fridge without being heated. Conclusion: their food is not freshly cooked! Those ribs must have been cooked long before that and stored in the fridge and then reheated in the microwave. EEwwwwwwww We had to ask them to REHEAT the ribs only after they were served less than 10 mins earlier in a HOT PLATE. They did, but my appetite was gone. I gave them to my dogs at home. Will NEVER go back

Thai Dish opened on upper Hawthorne in October, 2010 in the space formerly occupied by Thai Thai. They were closed for a major remodeling, and reopened in February, 2011. I stopped in with a neighbor on the spur of the moment to order takeout for movie night. The couple who owns the restaurant were incredibly hospitable, offering us beverages and a place to sit while we looked at the menu. The wife answered our questions about the specials and took our order, and then we chatted at the bar with the husband while our food was being prepared, mentioning that we both lived nearby and it was our first visit. He seemed genuinely pleased that we'd come in. We ordered Yellow Curry (potatoes, carrots, bell pepper and onions in coconut milk, add chicken), which was peppy and had great flavor; Spicy Green Beans (green beans, kaffir leaves and homemade curry paste, add shrimp)--beans cooked perfectly, and just the right amount of heat; and Pad See Ew (wide noodles, broccoli, bok choy, egg and sweet sauce, add beef), which had a nice texture and was my favorite of the three. There was a special on the board with mangoes and bell peppers that sounded fantastic as well. The food was cooked to order and ready in record time. When we left, the husband said, "I hope you like it. I am sure you will, our food is very good." He was correct. We really enjoyed our meal, and will be back again to try something new, as there were so many delicious sounding items on the menu, we had a hard time choosing just three.

Lunch visit pretty good. Took an out of towner to this place. The food was probably a 4 star. Authentic and good taste. My green curry was a little too sweet but still very yummy. What drops this to a 3 star was the service. My friend asked for a recommendation and the waiter/owner did not offer anything. Also, my friend ordered a 2nd drink (Thai sweet tea) and he really didn't like it. The owner was like sorry. Ha. Anyways, it was alright. Good if you want a cheap lunch, not good if you want good service.

Thai Dish on Hawthorne is my new favorite Thai restaurant surpassing my longtime favorite due to a few things: The service is excellent and attentive & the heat level of the dishes are amazing. When I order a dish Hot, I want it to be hot, they fit the bill. Also in tandem with the former, the quality and freshness of the ingredients are excellent. They also make there own hot peppers condiments that are delicious! Presentation of the food is nice (although not that important to me), the environment is relaxing and it's obvious the return customers coming in know a good secret in town. Go there!

Before you the reader begin I want you to know that the food was ordered to go so it does have a bearing as to the quality of the food. My friend and I are huge fans of Pad Kee Mao. We literally text eachother about new thai restaurants around the Portland area after trying this particular dish. Last week I received a text from him and he tells me about a new restaurant he had just tried and spoke of wonderful things about it. So all weekend I couldn't get the thought of trying a new place for their Pad Kee Mao(drunken noodles) from my head so without further hesitation I make my trek last night to try this dish that I enjoy very much. Upon entering Thai Dish, you will find yourself literally traveling into another country. The decor here is very detailed yet not overly done. It really gives a feel of traveling to another country without your passport. The owner of the restaurant is very friendly and gives you a very warm reception upon entering the restaurant. I told him that I wanted to make a to go order and ordered the Pad Kee Mao and an order of the Beef Larb(Beef Salad) with some sticky rice. The wait was short and the food came out with little to no wait. I was literally salivating at the thought of my feast that I would encounter with this secret rendezvous at my own home to eat at my own pleasure. Once I finally got home, I grab my silverware and began to partake in the meal. The food was neatly plated in these plastic containers as if they would be presented to me at the restaurant. I take my first few bites and the heat was not quite where I wanted but was relatively close for my Pad Kee Mao. The wide noodles were a little overcooked and seemed a little dry for my taste. I really enjoy asian dishes with a lot of sauce and it didn't quite deliver that here. Now this could be a result of it drying up from the drive home because I do live near Gresham and I did pick up the food from the Hawthorne area. One of the positives I did like was the usage of baby bok choy along with the dish. As for the Beef Larb. I enjoyed it but not as much as I could have. They did use an ample amount of beef and unlike the other places I've tried did not use ground beef which is definitely a plus. For my palate, I would of preferred the usage of more lime juice and also more greens. It seemed the like the beef ratio was a bit much. The owner asked how spicy I wanted it and I explained to him that I would prefer its spiciness more oriented toward asian people. I guess I didn't communicate it well enough as it wasn't spicy enough for me on a personal scale. Overall, I will definitely come back again and try some of their other dishes to be able to give you guys a more comprehensive review. Until then there's more restaurants to try and more reviews to be written. Happy Eating Everyone!

After trying Thai Dish, I can't comprehend how it could have an overall rating of 4 stars. The woman serving us was very friendly, no points off there, but the food was bad. Overall it was quite obvious that it was very old and reheated. If I had gone to dinner and then reheated it a week later I would have expected what they served. Brown rice -- crunchy, either undercooked or stale (maybe both.) Pad Thai -- much too sweet. Noodles clumping together in masses that I had to cut through because they would not come apart otherwise. Tofu -- tasted like a refrigerator. Green curry -- vegetables were probably picked some months ago. Such a disappointment when it's the middle of summer and everything is available fresh. I will not be returning! p.s. I heard a woman at the table next to us complaining that something in her dish was "off." The server agreed to bring out something else. I don't know why we were polite, we should have done the same.

One issue with Thai places in Portland is there are so many of them, it's hard to decide which ones to try. In this case, Groupon helped my girlfriend and I to choose. This place can be described as slightly better quality for the price, or slightly better price for the quality. It's not the best Thai I've ever had, but was pretty close. We went when it was surprisingly empty, got great service (attentiveness is implied when we're the only customers, but the waitress was friendly and knowledgeable), the food arrived remarkably fast, and was delicious. Every single ingredient seemed just a shred better than it "needed" to be, so the first few bites of each dish resulted in a pause and smile. Ending on an especially good note, the always delightful sticky rice with mango was probably the best I've had.

Great service, delicious food, reasonable prices. I order the tom yum or tom ka whenever I go and they serve it in the hot pot thing, which is awesome! This is my favorite Thai place on Hawthorne.

My girlfriend and I have eaten here twice now since moving to the neighborhood. Like with most non-vegetarian Thai restaurants, you need to ask questions about your food and ask them to omit certain ingredients if you are vegetarian or vegan. Both times we've eaten here, we've had the tofu salad rolls and veganized pad see ew with mango sticky rice for dessert. Everything is delicious. Service is a little hands off but adequate, and the atmosphere is comfortable and welcoming. I would definitely like to try more menu items at future visits.

I tired this place due to a Groupon I bought a few months ago and loved it! I bought the Groupon as an incentive to get me out of my own neighborhood. They bring you a light rice soup when you sit down which was nice. We started with the salad rolls (yum!) then shared the pineapple shrimp curry (medium spice) which was perfect for lunch. We ended with the Thai Ro-Tee - omg yum. Neither of us had had it before, the awesome waiter (owner?), recommended explained it to us. Kind of like a Thai Baklava.... if you will. He warned of it's sweetness which almost put me off because I'm not a big fan of sweet but I could have eaten six of these if I wasn't already full! It was just the perfect amount of sweet!! Loved it. I also had a Thai iced tea, delicious.

I was so pleased with this restaurant. You never know how good a restaurant is till you try it, but I'm glad I did try it. The waiter and waitress were exceptionally helpful. The food was exceptional. The pineapple fried rice came with fresh pineapple chunks in it, and was served inside of a pineapple (rind). It was so fresh and flavorful - the best pineapple fried rice I've ever had. We also had chicken pad Thai which was great too. Also, if you're vegetarian, they can make anything to your diet. Highly recommend!

Atmosphere: Nurturing staff were always smiling and did anything and everything to make sure we were comfortable and enjoying our dining experience. Food: We ate more than the traditional but I'll comment on that since it's what most people order... Delicious. Pad Thai is an overly ordered Thai dish that you can get anywhere in Portland- but at Thai Dish they make it completely different from all the others and in a magnificent way! The PAD THAI was so good! It was also really light and refreshing- it had great flavors without feeling heavy on your stomach, they used delicious fresh veggies including snap peas- YUM!!! Pricing: Better priced that most especially considering the portion size. Overall: I left smiling and full and happy to have finally experienced dinner out in portland without at least one thing going wrong or being not quite right. Thank you Thai Dish staff! (BTW- I didn't know they had a groupon but when I got there I was glad to pay full price because it was worth it!) Definitely coming back!

What I really like about this restaurant is how friendly the staff are. They didn't have a specific Thai dish listed on the menu that I wanted but the waiter was kind enough to let the cook do a "special order" for me. The food tastes okay for a Thai restaurant. The quality is what I've come to expect at the very least for Thai food. I've only had a few different dishes there but none have yet stood out to me. None of them were great but they also weren't bad. If you live by the area and want a nice place to get Thai food, come here. I should mention that it's a bit pricey for the small portion size. Pad thai is a cheap dish to make but it costs $10 minimum here.

The profit margins here must be out of this world! I ordered the Black Pepper Garlic Seafood. It tasted okay but only included one small shrimp, one mussel and 4 pieces of calimari. If I go back I'll check the contents before I leave with my take-out. Very disappointed here.

Phew, before Thai dish opened I would have had to walk six blocks instead of two to find Thai food. Lifesaver! While Portland might not be hurting for another Thai restaurant, it's never bad to have another option, and I think Thai Dish qualifies in the quality department. My broccoli and bok choy were perfect - still crunchy and fresh tasting. My noodles were perfectly cooked and not too greasy (and don't worry, not too ungreasy). My friend's pad thai was great and my other friend's yellow curry was a peanutty paradise. Our food came extremely quickly, although we were one of only three groups in there. In related news, even if you are one of three groups in a restaurant, it is STILL RUDE to lead a high pitched rendition of "sing a rainbow" with your three toddlers in a public place.

Disclaimers: 1. I'm addicted to Thai food 2. I work right across the street from this place. Despite those 2 things, I'm picky enough that I still feel qualified to review this place. After all, I've been here once or twice a week since they opened. I was pretty skeptical, too because I REALLY liked the previous restaurant that was here, Thai Thai. I've never been disappointed & I've tried most of the menu by now. My fave is probably the cashew nut, but their curries are awesome, & the lad na/rad na is quite good as well. I'm not sure how to spell his name, but Hood (pronounced like food), the manager/server/host guy, is super friendly & he always takes good care of me. Tell him Dr. Keith sent you & I'm sure he'll take great care you, too!

My boyfriend and I regularly crave food with spice levels that exceed the soft pallets of the average Portlander. When most arrive at the "Wow, this is inedible" conclusion, we're singing the praises of the heavy handed chef. One day we wandered into Thai Dish, and my boyfriend was seized by a level of jackhattery that exceeded his previous best. As the waitress took our orders, unnoticed alien entities invaded his mouth and forced him to say, "I want it real spicy, like hot-hot. Not white girl spicy, but THAI MAN spicy." While my brow produced a furrow no botox could correct and my mind tried to recall the backwater bar where I resurrected this redneck without the accent, his eyes communicated pure horror while his overtaken mouth continued to chatter onward, boasting his unique ability to wrangle any pepper combination the kitchen could muster. The waitress froze, her pen unmoving for several seconds before she remembered the symbol they've agreed upon for "destroy this total tool bag". Ten minutes later my curry arrived. It was delicious, with well-prepared tofu and vegetables, with a medium-hot spice level that preserved the individual flavors but provided a sinus-cleansing kick. Twenty minutes later, his food arrived, carried to our table by the manager himself, who said quite dryly: "Here you go. Thai man spicy." My boyfriend ate several mouthfuls without saying a word, assuring me that the intruding force that made him its marionette had been banished. As he continued eating very, very quietly, I asked to try his food, curious as to what "Thai Man Spicy" turned out to be, exactly. Ladies and gentlemen: liquid fire. I'll never have to shave again. The manager then approached to check on the adequacy of the spice level. My boyfriend managed a feeble thumbs up, before he returned to his food purgatory, complete with flushed cheeks, elevated body temperature, and sweat mixed with tears of shame. Since then, this has been our favorite Thai restaurant, and he's managed to hold his tongue.
