High Cholesterol at Whataburger

Calorie intake is the main concern for people with high cholesterol while dining at a fast-food restaurant like Whataburger. Well, you can always try the Lighter & Smaller options from the menu to cut down your fat intake. Opting for grilled sandwich or burgers are preferred compared to double meat or triple meat cheesy burgers which contain high cholesterol.

Foods to Avoid at Whataburger for High Cholesterol

Cut down on your meat intake to control your high cholesterol. You must skip Double Meat Whataburger and Triple Meat Whataburger at all costs. You should also avoid Avocado Bacon Burger and Monterey Melt as both these burgers contain a high amount of fat. Sweat & Spicy Bacon Burger will add extra 1080 calories in your diet so skip that as well. Whatacatch Dinner may sound tempting but the famous fish sandwich is also full of calories and unhealthy fat. Lastly, avoid French Fries and Onion Rings at Whataburger if you are already ordering a burger or any other heavy meal.

Went here on a casual Sunday afternoon. Pretty quiet, a couple guys watching NFL football on the tv above the bar. Like the local beer list. For an appetizer we tried the hot pretzels. Good pretzels, although I didn't love the mustard - might be better with hot cheese. Fiancee got the Tabor burger - excellent. Blue cheese, arugula, and a very fresh brioche roll. Oh yeah - it also had BACON JAM. Delicious. I myself had the pastrami sandwich. The bread crusts were a little heavy but man - delicious, piled high pastrami, arugula, horseradish and excellent pickled onions. Salty, bitter, and sweet all in one. And their fries were quite good. Service was good. We'll go back.

My husband and I were able to check out Tabor Tavern on it's opening night and I must say that if the excitement and number of people there that night is any indication, Tabor Tavern will be a big success. This area of Burnside in the North Tabor has a dearth places to get a beer or cocktail and some good food within a short drive or walk, so I look forward to see how this new establishment does over the course of the next year. Let me say that I was very impressed with service and food for an opening night. If there was any issues for the staff or the kitchen, it was not present in the front of the house. I had a house specialty drink called the Tabor Rita, and it's chipotle infused Tequila and smokey salt rim was spicy kick on my tongue. We both had the spicy Mac and Cheese with kale, chorizo sausage and buttery pretzels that gave it a nice crunch. Very yummy. We were sitting at the bar and were eying the other entrees coming out of the kitchen door and already have our next meal planned: Fish and chips/Lamb burger. The only downside was the noise level. It was very loud!! I am hoping this was just due to opening night excitement, but we shall see. There are 2 TVs with the requisite ESPN on and 4-5 picnic tables out on the side walk. With a parking lot and free street parking, finding a space will not be an issue. I have a feeling that the surrounding neighborhood ( and us neighbors) will be enjoying this new tavern quite nicely.

I decided to give the Tabor Tavern another try, and I'm happy I did. The food is good. The place feels comfortable and the wait staff is friendly. Great happy hour prices. I'm glad the food issues have been worked out, because they're within walking distance from my house. I'll keep coming back for the delicious burger and fries on the happy hour menu!

I was a bit let down with my experience here. I heard so many good things about this place but found nothing special about it. Service was good. Atmosphere is meh and the food was ok. I wouldn't recommend the quiona salad but the brussel sprouts were really good and I snagged some of my friend's fries which were above average . Beer selection was decent. If a buddy wanted to meet there I'd go but I doubt I will return on my own .

Aesthetically, it's an improvement over the Bangkok, for sure, but my impression is that they're going to be a victim of their own short-term success. I give them a two only because the concept has potential. I live within a block of the place. I took my kids there tonight (at their request). The place, theoretically, allows minors until 8:PM. We walked in at 7:20. Someone, I assume the owner, did that Office Space-voice version of "yeah, listen, unfortunately, kids can come in until 8:00 unless they're going to eat... then we have a 7:15 cutoff. It's not us... it's the state..." and then just stared at me. Note there was no "I'm really sorry" or anything of the sort. My kid, who's five, walked out and said "that guy was kinda rude." This "7:15 food cutoff" is a rule I have yet to encounter ever in my years of bringing my kids to places just like that. If you don't want minors in your place, that's totally OK. Don't say they can come in and offer a Kids' Menu. I would guess that what really happened was that he didn't want any kids in there because they don't drink over-priced alcohol, and there were lots of adults available. It's still new and there are still plenty of people trying it out. It's safe to alienate the families in the neighborhood, I guess. And even if it were true, well, you know that prickly bar manager attitude you get at an Applebee's? Yeah. That. That location sucks. His main source of good business would be the people in the neighborhood. There's no good reason on earth to drive to a non-descript tavern on 53rd and Burnside if you don't live around here. That was enough of an experience for us that I'll just get my beer at the Horse Brass or Belmont Station or one of the bazillion other pubs around here. I kind of hope he gets over his temporary stardom and reassesses his place in this universe, but if not... getting a beer in the neighborhood isn't much of a challenge. Otherwise, it'll probably just schlep along as another cookie-cutter pub until he can't service his debt anymore.

Incredible lamb burger. Moist and flavorful! Giant bowl of fries with such good seasoning. Delicious ketchup that Portland's known for...and a Pistachio Vegetable cream soup with curry we would drive miles to get a bowl. Best soup of our life, our trio agreed. Nitro Dark Porter Beer had chocolate flavor and was perfect. Good 'Poire' cocktail, but 'Bollywood' gin one was perfect. We loved the Butterscotch Pudding, thick with deliciousness, and topped by bacon peanut brittle we fought over! Grilled turkey San had cranberry chutney and was very memorable. Only thing two of us didn't like was a very unsweetened fruit crumble.

We were so excited when this place opened fairly close to us. The food has always been mediocre but they have decent drinks and prompt service. We go pretty frequently, when we want a quick burger, etc. Unfortunately something has happened over the last few months (maybe the owner is absent more?). We've had several occasions of terrible, downright rude service. Once we were even asked to leave because one of us didn't have an ID at 8;05, when no one was ordering alcohol. There was no apology from the waitress, or explanation of their policy, instead she literally grabbed the water glass out of my hand, and the menus from the table and said "leave". I'm sad to say we will not be back. With so many delicious options in this city, it doesn't make sense to go to a place with mediocre food and abhorrently rude waitresses.

Just finished eating Sunday brunch here with my better half for the first time. Upon reading other reviews on here, I have to wonder what it takes for some people to give a place five stars. Maybe the food should be free? Anyway, this was a great brunch spot. Great atmosphere, super friendly service (some of the best I've had in Portland). Oh yeah, the food...Delicious. I had the chorizo scramble with eggs and my fiancée had a half order of the biscuits with chorizo gravy. Both were absolutely amazing. Rich in flavor, yet not to heavy for a start of the day. We have just moved back to the neighborhood from out in the burbs and we are thrilled to have tried this place. We will definitely be back! As far as all the raving 4 star reviews, can someone please clarify what would have allowed that fifth star? I truly want to know.

Cool local restaurant, reasonably priced. Good beer, nice service. So glad they came to our neighborhood. The owner is very friendly, his staff is also very friendly which is Great and is much needed in Portland's many snotty wait staffs. Thank goodness for a Place like this.

Tried the somewhat new Tabor Tavern tonight and it was great. Though it sits a bit by itself instead of in the midst of one of the commercial neighborhoods it makes parking and finding it really easy and they do have a small parking lot. The atmosphere is beautiful wood and custom lighting. Gives a very warm feel with lots of windows. They had both booths and table as well as a few tables outside for nice days. We opted for a booth by the window. Because the space has been renovated the windows are new and not drafty at all. The menu had several tasty items that were hard to choose between. Decided to go with the tabor burger. As described on the menu the combination of baby arugula, blue cheese and bacon jam was a great mix of sweet, and salty. The brioche bun was just the right mix of chewy and light bread. The one item I wanted to try but didn't and will go back for is the bacon wrapped blue cheese stuffed dates with lemon marmalade. The beer menu is a show case of some of the great breweries around, but you might just be tempted by the cocktail list too. Unlike some of the joints closer to down town the menu seemed very reasonable priced with items from 8-14. My friend and I both said this was a must come back too. Tabor Tavern, thanks for a great dinner.

Wonderful place, excellent menu, and fun ambiance. We dined for Sunday brunch, which offered a variety of choices, including some yummy veg options. The regular full menu was available as well. Definitely add this one to your list!

This is a follow up review. I think the food quality has improved. However, there was an incident at our most recent visit that I really feel deserves a mention. We ordered a bottle of wine with dinner. We ordered the $22 bottle. Our bottle was delivered with cork removed and placed on the table. We weren't asked to even look at the bottle. Upon inspection, I realized the bottle given to us was the most expensive bottle on the menu and not what we ordered. I told the waitress and she promptly removed it. Here is the strange thing.... She returned with the bottle that we'd ordered. It was a screw cap that had been opened prior to arriving at the table. I had a problem with the corked bottle arriving this way. But a screw cap?!?! This isn't right and even seems shady. Even at the cheapest Chinese restaurant we frequent, they open the bottle in front of us. I'm willing to overlook the corked bottle, but a screw cap? All of us at the table wondered if we were drinking a new bottle and one that we'd actually ordered. I think they really need to fix this if they hope to become a legitimate restaurant.

I was pretty excited when I heard this place was opening up so close to home. Went with my wife for dinner. She ordered the burger and fries and I got the pastrami sandwich with a salad. When my sandwich came out I looked at my wife and said 'this is cute.' (sarcastically of course, I was expecting this giant awesome sandwich). The bread was dry and the sandwich was tiny! The flavor was nothing to write home about. For ten bucks I was expecting a little more. I highly advise the owner to go to 'pause' on interstate, order the pastrami sando and take some notes. I just hate going to a new place and after eating my meal thinking 'I'll never order that again!' I'd rather leave saying 'I can't wait to come back and order another fantastic meal!' My wife loved her burger. But she is pregnant so everything tastes good to her. I'll have to say, the bacon jam is a great twist. The fries were standard. The beer list is wide and diverse. Double mountain beers are always great. The place is a little loud during the rush hours. I will be back mostly due to the location of this place but I'm gonna give it a few months, and I won't order the sandwich again unless the owner hunts me down and tells me he went to pause.

I live three blocks away. I'm not going to try and sway you because this is Portland and this is another decent , clean bar with awesome food, drinks and happy hour. Its quiet, but fun on the weekends. It's good sized too.

I recently transported to Portland from Saint Louis so I've only dined at Tabor Tavern twice but they nailed it both times. Great, simple decor, outdoor patio for myself and pup, friendly service and quality food that won't destroy your savings. Both times had the mussels and brussel sprouts w/ bacon (yes, brussels n' mussels). Sprouts were carmelized perfectly and the broth that the mussels come in is perfect for soaking up w/ the potato bread they serve w/ the dish. Service was friendly both times as well as efficient. Looking forward to trying out TT's entire menu.

We came in again for drinks apps and dinner..we started with the calamari and the grilled baguette with pâté and fig jam.. The calamari was overly greasy I would not order it again.. The baguette plate was ok.. I ordered the hamburger and my husband ordered the fish and chips.. The burger read really well on the menu and I was very excited to try it. I was very disappointed when it arrived the menu says half pound the patty itself seemed very small I had at least an inch or more of bun till I got to the burger the bun itself was burned and I felt like the greens were the most overpowering flavor on the burger. Major disappointment also the French fries were cut so short you almost needed a fork to eat them. The fish had a nice lemon flavor but was very greasy and soggy.. Overall this trip was a major disappointment and I don't think I'll be coming back anytime soon.

Was having dinner and drinks with my friend last night. Right after we paid our bill we were asked if we would be purchasing anything else. We replied with a no so the server next comment was then you will need to leave as they have people waiting. I turned around and only saw one couple waiting. I did ask another service if this is standard after someone buys dinner and drinks, her response was yes as they have a waiting list. I would not recomend this place to anyone the food was ok not great, but after spending over $100 then asked to leave didn't sit to well with me.

Oh how I wanted to like this place. It's walking distance to my house and not much else is. The atmosphere, service, and beer list are all great. But the food is TERRIBLE. I've been three times since they opened six months ago and it was consistently awful. Rubbery, flavorless calamari, almost inedible sandwiches, and fish and chips that were soggy, greasy, and disgusting. Obviously cooked in oil that wasn't hot enough. The only good item is the burger. Don't order it medium rare, though, or the inside will come completely raw. We will never be back. Oddly, this place is always packed. Probably because there isn't much else around. But it's a travesty if this place stays popular. Whatever 12-year old they put in charge in the kitchen needs to be replaced asap.

Food is good, nice beer list, and good cocktails. Unfortunately, the service has been so terrible on numerous occasions we won't be going back. Would encourage them to find some servers that care about giving good service.

Great staff, awesome menu (tabor burger and pastrami sandwiches are great, and every soup I've had is amazing), and the taps are not the usual ones you find around town.

This place is a classic Portland style public house. The thick wood bar and utilitarian bar-stools are just the right amount of Portlandia. The place is not very crowded and there is ample seating. There is a decent beer selection and the cocktails (although pricey) are skillfully prepared. The menu is simple, however, each dish is executed perfectly. The caramelized brussel sprouts were amazing. I had the Tabor burger and it was cooked exactly how I asked for it. The bacon jam was delicious and the french fries were amazing when dipped in the malt vinegar aoili. I will definitely be coming back.

so much good food. we frequent here for brunch and dinner. the Cesar salad, lamb burger and soups are my favorite. My husband had the fish and chips a few weeks back and oh man, biggest order I've ever seen, and so tasty. only thing less than great to say is the whiskey drinks could be improved. I tend to judge bars on their whiskey sours and old fashions and they were just so so. but they have a GREAT selection of beers and cider and everyone who works here is very nice!!!!

I nearly gave 4 stars-but that's not really correct, and I'll explain. I had the biscuits and gravy this Saturday morning. I had never eaten there before at all, but someone told me they had good brunch. The biscuits and gravy -they were phenomenal, and really raised the bar in terms of the B&G scene here in town. It's a chorizo gravy, clearly hand made beautifully browned biscuits, and topped with shaved, pickled red onion. The gravy was uniquely flavored like chorizo, every thing good about the spices and pork, but none of the red, dripping grease. There were delicious, whole pieces of butter in the fluffy, layered biscuit, I've never had biscuits this butter-chunky in Portland. Divine, and the way it should be always. I could picture the human hands gently handling the dough as I bit into it. The shaved onion - whooboy. I, uh, have eaten a lot of biscuits and gravy. I like biscuits and gravy. But where once we were two, me and biscuits and gravy, now we are three. As the richness of each bite became too much, a shot of tart, sweet flavor would shoot through my mouth. As the salt would overwhelm me, the onion would clean my palette. Truly, truly delicious. But the salt. The salt is the weakness of the dish. If it could be backed down 10% or so . . . they might be perfect- real worldbeaters. Champions. They might really win it all, and that's no joke, go taste them your self, and get extra picked onions. But they fall just, just short of that level with the salt level I tasted. Maybe a way to order slightly less salt? Salt or no- I still have to proclaim Tabor Tavern the best around. It's just too dang tasty, that chorizo, and the buttery biscuit, and extra onion . . . I have to wait til Saturday. The best I've tasted in years, and the best I've had in Portland possibly ever. Needs a touch less salt though.

Great neighborhood restaurant. If you are a beer fan they have a decent selection to offer. Service there is friendly and the atmosphere is casual. Great place to hang out with friends. I ordered the shepherd's pie which was very tasty and very rich. Wish they had more entrees to choose from but they also offer lots of sandwich/burger options as well.

We happen to drive by this place on our way across town. We noticed that there were quite a few people sitting outside and thought the place must be good. Later that evening as we were driving back we decided to stop there for dinner. Was quite surprised by the entire place. The drinks were yummy and the food was fabulous. I had the pastrami sandwich which I don't normally order anywhere. It was the best pastrami sandwich I think I have ever had. My boyfriend ordered the Tabor Burger and said it very good as well. There were other things on the menu that we wanted to try so we will definitely be back.

Located in just a great part of town this place will certainly get a second visit. The beer selection was good, and the food too. There is a patio out back, but it was too cool to try it out. Still, it has promise, especially as the interior has an olldddd smell to it, Stick nose over beer, inhale. Repeat. The place was a pharmacy in the way back days so maybe that's the reason for the odd smell. Sayyyyyy, maybe I oughta DRINK the beer instead of just smelling it, Yeah, that's an idear!!

i guess this is a good place to go if your local. lots of kids. the brssel sprouts were particularly yummy. We only had a glass of wine and an appetizer. Not a place I would drive across town to get to but if you live inthe area and don;t mind kids running around then its great.

Soup. Amazing soup. Best soup I've ever tasted (I had cream of corn with tortilla, but I understand there's another marvelous soup every day). Very pleasant staff, surprising menu with choices to suit anybody, and (did I make this clear?) SOUP to sing about.

Okay, not quite my neighborhood, i am near 82nd, but pretty darn close. I have been seeing this place on my way to work, and convinced my partner that we should try it on our way home from the movie. At first when i saw the parking lot, I thought it would be crowded, but there is plenty of street parking so not a problem. Again, because it was one of Portland's rare hot hot days, it was pretty crowded, but the AC was on, and the staff was busy, but kept their cool. I ordered a martini since they had my favorite Aviation gin. I asked for it to be be shaken so it had ice crystals and a twist. It not only had ice crystals, but a thing sheet of ice on the top. My partner ordered the tempura battered fish and chips. Yummy haddock with a flaky tempura crust. I ordered the tabor burger with bacon jam. They were both excellent. The fries were good too Very good sized portions. I topped my meal off with cava and violtte. Not sure if I spelled the violette part right, but that was light and refreshing too. We were seated in the front area and a gentlemen sitting next to me asked me what I thought of the meal, especially the minted peas that were part of the fish and chips. See, i am not a pea girl, and tend to avoid them, he must have heard my partner and me talking about my distaste for peas. These were minted peas and quite tasty. If my mom had made peas this way, instead of cooking them until they lost their round shape and became dented, i would probably be eating them more often. Anyway, it turns out the gentleman was the owner of the pub and wanted to know what I thought of the peas. I told him they were great. For non-meat eaters, they have fried chick peas, calamari, smoked trout, great looking salads (one an argula, and another quoina with smoked tomatoes), and a an interesting white bean and rosemary spread. Everyone was also raving about the gazpacho and other menu items, so i will have to go back, try the happy hour menu, and other things.

Went on a Friday night. It was pretty mellow, so we were able to score a table outside. The service was great! The guy who ran our table was attentive, could make a joke AND take a joke. I started off with a drink I'd never had: A Snakebite (1/2 cider, 1/2 lager and a dash of blackberry syrup). Surprisingly tasty! For food, I ordered the basic burger. BY and FAR the most impressive thing of the night was that they asked me how *I* wanted it cooked. Really? I...I get a choice?! Medium rare! Hallelujah! AND it arrived to me in beautiful medium rare form! The only disappointing thing is that the buns were charred to black because they must have been toasted on the grill. It gave the burger a burned taste that was a turnoff. Hopefully, it was just a snafu. Second drink was a boubon manhattan. Once again, delicious! I thought the drinks were priced comparatively to most of what you find in Portland. I thought the food seemed to be a couple of bucks more than other places. I will definitely go back and try it out again. I love that they have spruced up that little corner of Burnside!

I've started going here since they opened, being happy to get a neighborhood bar/restaurant near my house. They have good service, a nice atmosphere, TVs for sports (but not a sports bar), and good food. Sometimes their food is spot on excellent and a good value for the price. Unfortunately, there is a little inconsistency and other nights my wife has had to return her dishes (usually for being too dry). They retain a 4th star however, because they always compensated her properly by either getting her something else or taking it off our bill. I recommend the lamb burger, it's very tasty. They have a great fancy drink list (a little spendy, but comparative to other places with similar drink menus), plus a great selection of beers on tap. Ultimately, I recommend this place and frequent it myself. It is the perfect addition to our bar-less neighborhood.

I went here for lunch the other day, optimistic that this could be the place to turnaround an unmemorable stretch of Burnside. I understood why I have never seen deep fried chick peas before - they suck bad. If it wasn't for the salt and paprika, I would have preferred a plate of sawdust. We would have ordered the pretzel, but at $7 I couldn't justify the Disneyland price. I ordered the burger w/ cheese for $10 and was disappointed with how wimpy it was. I have so many favorite burgers in this town for that price and this is going on the bottom of my list. My wife ordered hers medium-rare and there was no pink to be found. The service was ok and the interior has that pub vibe but overall not enough to make we want to try it again.

Try the Fish and Chips!!! It is like nothing I have ever had before. Typically all fish & chips are the same with a slightly different taste, but I have to say Tabor Tavern does it in a unique way with a great presenation. Location is also great. One of the few locations in that area with its own parking. Also it is family friendly! Very cool place!

Finally a place eto get great beer and great food. Something that should be easy to find has eluded me for the 6 years I have lived here. I've taken my 85 year old mom and on other visits my man and for a girls night. The lamb burger is not to be missed. Thank you for showing that good beer and food make a great pair.

This place gets five stars because babies and children are welcome. I live in Montavilla near the lovely little restaurants and shops on Stark. Unfortunately, most of these lovely little restaurants do not allow children. If only Tabor Tavern had opened over here! How about you guys open a Tabor Tavern II on Stark. I can guarantee that you would have a ton of business. Many of my friends in the neighborhood have small children and would love to sink our hard earned bucks into a family friendly place with good food and drinks. For now, it's worth the drive or longish walk to the tavern. The service is excellent, the food is good, and the drink/beer menu is lovely. They are also happy to accommodate GF when possible.

It's a new spot in the neighborhood so we thought we would give it a shot! The service was good and everyone was very nice! I did find it to be a little over priced and at the time of day we went it was more like a chuck e. Cheese than a neighborhood pub and grub!

Right now it's my favorite burger. I love this place. There is never a wait, and it's never empty. Big bar with 12ish taps that constantly rotate. Zig's swig is always there and always good. Service is always great. I've had a breakfast 'sandwich' here which is huge and delicious, but not consumable in sandwich form(get your fork, you fucking caveman). But what brings me back. The burger. Coming from Brooklyn, NY I am a burger snob. I went to dumont burger a million times when it had first opened. The quality took a nosedive somewhere in between the burger jumping up $5. I dearly miss the walter foods burger. You're soo good mr walter foods burger. I tried to find a great burger here in town and have went nearly everywhere. The only one that piqued my interest was the bamboo sushi one, and that's got some weird flavors and I can't eat that one regularly. This one. Consistency. I order a burger medium rare, and kinda get bitchy when it's all grey in the middle. The Tabor Burger doesn't let me down. Taste. Toppings are king, it seems, with Portland burgers. This one has a side salad's worth of arugula, crumbly blue cheese, and what makes it is the bacon jam. Adds the sweetness that Dumont has, with a different alluring texture. The bun holds it all together nicely without being over bearing. This is a steakhouse burger. Big and Juicy. If you're not into that type(you like the shake shack type, thin patty overflowing with greasy goodness) you may not like this burger as much. Regardless you will like it. You will say damn, this is good. Been here around 10 times. Have only had the burger(other than the breakfast sandwich once). Never lets me down.

We had the fish and chips, ceasar salad and the mac & cheese, all on the happy hour menu. The portions are generous and yummy! Good wine and beer selection and super service. Just loved it! We will be back. Welcome to the neighborhood Tabor Tavern!

There are those food items that are so perfect that you will always remember them. You will someday be be ninety-nine years old, and rocking on your porch and possessed of absolutely no teeth, but you will still be able to perfectly picture the aforementioned food items: the tastes, the aroma, the general awesomeness. At least, that's my Portland foodie fantasy of old age; let's hope I'm right. Such was the mac 'n' cheese at Tabor Tavern. It was epically awesome, featuring an audacious set of flavors. There was the smoked Gouda, the kale, the corn, the chorizo. There were the pretzel crumbs. Yep. Awesome. Now, my equally mac 'n' cheese mad hubby did not find it to be in his top three, but he's wrong. The heck with him. As for all our other food items, I am sure they were nice (and I know the service and atmosphere were more than nice), but, frankly, they are all lost in the fog of mac. And what a happy fog it is.

I've eaten there twice, and both times the food was amazing! The service is super friendly and they have a pretty decent beer list. Boneyard RPM.... I'll take it! I will go back for sure. Try out the fish and chips, it's the best in Portland! It's not a cheap eat, but you get what you pay for, all the ingredients are fresh and local.

A cozy little spot! Lots of beers on tap, with a varied and extensive menu. I got the turkey sandwich, but wished I had gotten the veggie sandwich like my friend. While all the ingredients were great, it was terribly constructed and basically disintegrated the second I picked it up. However, the soup was phenomenal, and they offer lots of gluten-free options, too!

Came here the other night with my family. We had a great time. Good and service were both excellent! We had the cauliflower fritters, deviled eggs, and pretzel for apps, AMAZING! For dinner, I had the fish & chips w/ a side of minter peas. Again, really good stuff! I'll be back!

I love this place! The menu is creative and offers a number of choices for whatever food mood I may be in. If I feel like being good, and healthy and don't want to go for that amazing burger of theirs, I have more options than just getting a boring old salad. Wait... Their salads aren't boring though... I had one of the mixed greens ones and it was delicious, just the perfect dressing. There is an awesome looking mac and cheese that has kale in it, so I am trying to convince myself that that one falls on the healthy side... Greens cancel out heavy cream, lots of cheese(I think it was Smoked Gouda? Oh man), sausage and pretzel crumbs right? Almost everything on the menu(and I can be a pretty picky eater) I got excited about, and can't wait to go back and try next time, rather than just ordering the same thing every time like I usually do. A perfect blend of glutenous and healthy. How about that burger of theirs? My boyfriend ordered it, and I think I may have seen a tear form in his eye. He couldn't stop talking about that bacon jam, and how damn good it was, really put our conversation to a halt actually. I had the veggie burger. Great texture and made from garbanzo beans, but not like a falafel, I don't know what it is like, except for good. Oh, and the fries pretty much rule. And I am a serious fry snob. Beyond the food, everything was great. Awesome service; we were able to sit right down when we walked in, which surprised us since the place was hopping. Our drinks came fast, like scary fast. As did our food. And it seemed as if there were only two girls running the whole packed restaurant and the bar. Props to them. Speediness is fine, especially when starving, but they were very friendly and patient and didn't make us feel rushed at all, even though they must have been, with all of the million things they were doing at once, but you never would have known it. The only teeny tiny thing that put us off at first was the noise level. It was so loud we had to yell to hear each other. We are easily frazzled by noise though, nerves of a cat I guess... But once we were stuffing our faces with tasty food, we didn't need to talk much anyway. Just the occasional grumbling of content.

Stumbled upon this place while driving to QFC and made a mental note to come back to try and I'm glad I did! My husband had a Caesar and a burger and I had a cup of soup, which was interesting, and their Veggie Tart of the day (eggplant & basil) which was delicious! The food is a step above average pub fare and I really liked the ambience, lighting and service which was wonderful! Also they had the Blazers game on which was an added plus! Will definitely be back!

Based on the first visit, this gets five stars. Went with a group and everyone loved what they ate. It's a fun and surprising menu (appetizers included), but not over the top. I had the quinoa with smoked trout. The trout was excellent and the combination was impressive. For beer aficnatos, it's a solid list of craft brews. Zig's Swig, a beer made just for the tavern, s/b your first taster. Great atmosphere.

Came here with a few friends on a Saturday night and the place was PACKED but we got a table relatively quickly. Considering how busy they were, the servers did an awesome job. As a pre-dinner drink I had a "Ginger Baker", which was an Old-Fashioned made with ginger syrup; it was tasty enough, but not as strong as I would have liked it. I also could have done without the muddled fruit in it, which is not traditional for an Old-Fashioned. Still, not bad. For dinner I had the Shepherd's Pie and a Snakebite to drink. The food was absolutely delicious, right down to the side salad that came with it, and the Snakebite was, well, beer and cider mixed together so it is what it is. The lamb in the Shepherds Pie was tender and flavorful, the sauce was rich and smokey, and the mashed potatoes with smoked mozzarella made a perfect topping for the pie. I'm not sure what was in the dressing on the side salad but it was one of the best I've had. So, service was good, food was amazing, drinks were decent - I'll be back. It was a bit on the pricey side for me so I won't be a regular (my dinner + 2 drinks ran me about $30, so pretty high for what's basically a bar) but I'll definitely come back for a treat once in a while.

Great! We live just down the street and were so happy to see this open. We brought our baby and inlaws the other night. We all raved about our meals... Hubby doesn't dig peas and loved these served with the fish. Minty and fresh. I had a burger and it was amazing. Yum! Can't wait to try the happy hour. Great food and service for being so new. a big plus that we could bring the kiddo until 8 pm.

I love the food and drinks. Amazing. The Brussels sprouts are awesome and just worth the visit. The ice balls are yummy. Very busy after about 7. However, the service sucked. The server was snooty and rude. There's ways to do things and there's ways not to do things. Rude. But...Brussel sprouts are awesome.

Tabor Tavern was one of the first places I went out to eat when I moved to Portland. It remains dear to my heart not only for being my first, but for also having excellent food and beer. During my last outing I ordered the tofuben which was very good (and super filling) as well as the gazpacho (watermelon with a spicy pepper, I believe) which was bloody delicious. Previously I had a crispy chicken sandwich and french fries, which were also very good. My husband hopes the charcuterie makes another appearance on the menu soon :) We tend to frequent Tabor Tavern in the afternoon, occasionally in the early evening - weekend evenings are busier (obviously). I sure hope to patronize to this fine establishment again soon!

Planned to meet a friend here for happy hour, but missed HH by just a bit. Either way was pleased with the food and service. The place filled up super fast for a Monday night, and while they were showing Monday Night Football on TV, that didn't seem to be the draw for this restaurant. I noted that many folks were there with their families, including some young children. I would say judging by the size of most of the parties, it's a very good place for groups, and the restaurant allows you to seat yourself upon arrival. There is a good selection of beers on tap written on the chalkboard wall. They also have a long list of cocktails available as well. We stuck with our usual drink of choice - Boneyard IPA. We started off with appetizers, the pretzels and Brussels sprouts. There were two medium sized pretzels that came on the dish, and it came with spicy mustard - which ended up being much too spicy for me to eat, though I did try it a few times. The Brussels sprouts were very good, covered with bacon and perfectly cooked. Following the appetizers we both had the tabor burger and fries. The bacon jam and bleu cheese on the burger really put it over the top. The fries were also very good, didn't taste greasy or oily like some places can be. Our server checked in with us often and made sure that we were doing good on our drinks and food. I look forward to coming here again to try more items on the menu. Definitely enjoyed this place, it didn't seem to be too noisy and we were able to keep up a conversation in our booth and had a great time.

Well my first review didn't provide enough details regarding this place so I'm re-posting with additional information. I hope the owners don't flag this for removal as I'll just have to re-post again with more details... Most the time it's okay. Not rating the customers as they're almost entirely horrible. Don is p coo. I think Vivian is a witch. Like an actual witch. The bike parking rack indicates you can have your bike stolen in broad daylight. There is no smoking other than out by the dumpster. They make their own house bitters and I'm told they're pretty good. The food seems overpriced upscale bar food. The beer list is usually okay... Zigs Swig is brewed by Lompoc for the bar I assume and is alright. The place gets busy after 6. They have two large tvs for sports people. All the staff I've had interactions with are nice.

This will be short and quick - Spouse had the lamb burger and gave it a thumbs up as well as the deviled eggs. I had the poutine and added the pulled pork - wayyyyyyyy too salty. My SmallOne loved it, but I felt like I was retaining more and more water with each bit. I'll try it again because I love poutine and this is our first time here.

I loved reading the writings on this here spot. It seems lots of people I know go/or have gone here and since my weekend travels haven't varied much lately, I decided to make a point to go further than the usual .07 mile from home on out weekly lunches out. Husband suffering from terrifically wonky jet lag, snooty children, and all were dragged here so I could have the burger and I'm so glad I insisted on it. Having read the reviews it seems like consistency is the biggest downside but Seems I came on a good day. We all did- the family enjoyed all their choices from waffle, to fish and chips to chorizo and eggs. Whatever. This is about my burger. It was glorious. I absolutely loved it and will be back for another one soon enough. The cheese, the bacon jam, the done to perfection patty- all were one with each other creating the perfect song that nobody hates- like; Train in Vain,Big Country, or Werewolves of London. The brioche bun was the perfect texture- donated the fries to my husband who says they were pretty good. This was excellent - speaking of songs and my penchant for non sequiturs, their playlist even had some mighty fine Big Star going. Lunches like today's, are really special when the outside influences seem to become part of the ingredients to the meal as well. Here's where you need to get your next burger unless you've already been here. And you have, I'm just usually late to parties these days. ( cocktail choice- the Don with Vodka not gin )

Tabor Tavern, is one of our staple establishments to dine. We know what to expect. It's one of our go to places. I love, love the kale caesar salad. It's my favorite salad in Portland. We usually get the booths by the window, cozy and like a cat I like to stare out the window. They also have tables outside, which is nice on a sunny day. Their taps rotate, they have different beers every time we go. The tabor and classic burgers, I order medium are always delicious. I like to sub the kale salad for an extra dollar, I am not really into their fries. The turkey club, with bacon jam is a solid choice as well. Simple menu. The only thing I would advise not to get is the poutine. I know, being from Canada, I am a little picky. Friendly servers, chill atmosphere. Friendly neighborhood pub, to grab some beers and great simple pub food!

I live one block from Tabor Tavern, so lets just say I have been here more than a few times and have tried a variety of menu items. Starting with the food. It's good. The thing about TT, there really isn't a menu item that is going to blow you away. It's certainly better than average pub food and they do have some very successful brunch items. "The Cure" is something worth experiencing. As a drinking establishment, TT shines a bit brighter. A creative and diverse drink menu is available and they have a constantly rotating tap list that almost always has a beer you have never heard of (which is a good thing by the way).

Tabor Tavern has food and drinks that range from pretty good to quite good. That said, it's overpriced for what you're getting. They've got a nice beer list, served at $4.75 a pint, which is a little steep, but not bad, considering what they've got. I liked the coffee porter I had rather well, though I wished that they'd labeled it accordingly (usually I don't go for infused/flavored beers before dinner). It was pretty sweet and had strong coffee flavor to it, yet wasn't one of those massive porters that isn't session-able. My friend's cocktail, meanwhile, the "Rising Sun," was pretty mediocre. Refreshing, but a little bland. I generally don't like drinks where you can't tell there's any alcohol in them, and this tasted like some juice blend. She liked it, though, for the same reason. It's got pineapple-infused rum, lime juice, simple syrup, passionfruit bitters, and an ice ball made of frozen sweet hibiscus tea. There's a lot of flavors in it that'll overwhelm pretty much anything (e.g. passionfruit, pineapple), so it's not the making of the drink, but the drink recipe, itself, that makes it taste like a juice box. $8 for this, which bummed me out--there are truly extraordinary cocktails to be had in Portland for this same price, or cheaper. Likewise, they wanted $8.75 for a Manhattan with a mid-shelf bourbon. Not unheard of, but nearing the edge for Portland unless you're at someplace really fancy, which the Tabor Tavern is not. I had the Tabor Burger, which featured bleu cheese, arugula, and bacon jam. It was nice and juicy, and the brioche bun was beautifully toasted. That said, it had a flaw or two. It was a bit salty for my friend's and my taste, for one. We agreed that it might've worked better with smoked gouda, which they featured in other dishes, instead of the bleu, and would've tempered the salt of the rest of the burger a little bit. The bacon jam was hard for us to detect. I thought I had a chunk of bacon on it with one bite, but other than that, I didn't get much bacon flavor, let alone the salty-and-sweetness I've had with past bacon jams. Still, the patty was tasty and huge (at least a half-pound!). The fries were definitely fresh out of the fryer, and tasted good, though they didn't exactly blow me away, either. I wish they had a little more crispiness to their exteriors. All of this came in at $13, which is a little steep for a bacon cheeseburger. My friend, meanwhile, had the mac 'n cheese, which we both found incredible. The smoked gouda permeated every one of the tiny little twisty noodles, and the chorizo (Spanish, not Mexican, I think) gave it a nice, smoked paprika-y kick to compliment the smoke and cheese. The pretzel crumbs uplifted it without making it too salty, and the kale served as a nice vehicle for everything else, giving it a good herbaceousness. $13 is still pretty spendy for mac 'n cheese, though. Tabor Tavern's got a good beer list and excellent mac 'n cheese going for it, as well as a general wealth of good ingredients for its food. It's definitely a gastropub. That said, in this town, if you're going to be pricy, you've got to be special. What they had was good, for the most part, but not quite extraordinary, save maybe the mac 'n cheese. If you've got the cash, then it's not a bad option. Otherwise, there are other places in Portland with a more favorable deliciousness-to-cost ratio.

Tabor Burger: I loved the jam bacon. The bun was perfect. Unfortunately, it had too much arugula, so I had to take some off. I also asked for med rare but it came med well, so that was pretty disappointing because the meat was a bit dry. Overall, the burger was good. It definitely has potential. The blue cheese was perfect. My wife had the gyro which has some issues. They need to lower the price to like 8$, or they need to make a Gyro worth 13 bucks, because the one they serve is food cart quality; It's even wrapped like that. I admit that it was pretty good, but the quality was low and not worth the price. I like the place though; it's pretty big and nice. Very lively. I would like to come back and give them another chance of making a burger.

I've been here twice and both times have been amazing! The happy hour is great with a decent selection for eats. I recommend the $6 burger and add a fried egg and bacon jam. Soo bomb. Today I went there for brunch and ordered the Eggs Benedict with smoked salmon. One of the best Benedicts I've ever had! My friend ordered the Rev - a fried chicken sandwich with an egg, cheddar, and pepper gravy. She loved hers as well. Will def be back for this tavern.

It really pains me to write this. It really does. The food here has been great. However, I'm writing this as I show up at 11:13. We (4 people) walk through the door and ask to sit outside (there are people sitting outside). The following conversation occurs (her part in a super passive aggressive stance). Me: Hey! Can we sit outside? Waitress (named Elizabeth): Um, no. Outside is closed. Me: Oh, no worries. We will sit inside. Waitress: We are closing at midnight. Me: ...Ok? (It's 11:13?) Waitress: Do you want food or drinks? Me: Well, both, please! Waitress: The kitchen is closed, let me go ask to see what I can do. (She goes off and talks to someone who looks like he is in charge, he looks at her like she is crazy, it is 11:13, he motions to her to sit us). Waitress: Well, you can sit wherever, last call is in 15 and the kitchen closes in 10 (you just said it was closed?). Me: Oh, alright, sweet, thanks... The following 40 minutes consisted of THE worst customer service I have experienced in Portland. NO eye contact, NO asking how we were doing, and NOT refilling our water despite walking by multiple times (there were probably 10 other people there). Also, Lets not forget passively aggressively telling someone NOT facing the beer board that it's "over there". 2/5 stars JUST because the food IS good. I will not return. So many nicer neighborhoods.

Great local/neighborhood spot. Sidewalk seating for those summer days and a nice upscale lounge feel without being stuffy. They have a great beer selection, which is always rotating. Wine and cocktails are good there as well. The staff is friendly and very helpful. As far as the food goes, they have some great options. My favorite is the Mac and Cheese, but the burger and fish and chips are great as well. If you get the chance, check this place out. You'll enjoy!

Who suddenly cuts the happy hour to earlier? One of the waitresses we asked didn't even know about the change. Would've gotten another beer but HH was cut to 5:30. Lost a star for poor sportsmanship. But I loved the food (pretzel and macncheese) and the cocktail. So play nicer next time Tabor Tavern, don't jerk us around.

Stopped by early evening on very mild winter day; seated on the sidewalk tables; high noise level from the heavy traffic on East Burnside; waitress friendly and informative; selected the fish and chips, a favorite from a previous visit; and the macaroni and cheese, first time tried. Fish and chips delivered excellent taste and presentation. Mac and cheese was a big disappointment. Seemed to be a hodgepodge of poorly coordinated ingredients, way too much bread crumbs for topping, chorizo was skimpy and hard to distinguish, corn just doesn't fit with pasta, sorry; the kale was really tough and in monster-sized pieces; a creamy cheese sauce might have rescued the dish, but alas there was only a dry texture with only a hint of a moist binding agent. Wine and apricot cider were very fine.

I'm often wary of food at any establishment with the word "bar," "pub," or "tavern" in its name. At the very least, I set my expectations low. Perhaps my low expectations in some way contributed to my being blown away by a lunch experience here. Truly everything that we sampled was a culinary masterpiece. I started with a soup of the day, which was some sort of brilliant spicy Thai coconut. Equally impressive were the quinoa salad and strawberry goat cheese salad. Nothing was incredibly showy or complex, but everything was delicious. I'm not sure how Tabor Tavern holds up in the evening, but if their late night experience is as good as their lunch, I will be back often.

The food options are eclectic, not your standard fare. And this is why this small gem is worth your time and a little extra money. The staff were kind and gracious and had the best recommendations. We loved the cauliflower fritters and Kale Cesare salad. We had no idea what we ordered in terms of cocktails (the explosion of flavors were amazing!), but every risk was worth it. Quaint, high-quality, and we love the neighborhood.

And I did come back, and the tabor burger is insanely good!! Hooray for bacon jam!!!

I love me a good burger and I wasn't disappointed. Tabor burger is a 1/2 pound of local meat, blue cheese, bacon jam, arugula on a brioche bun. Excellent with good homemade fries. Another in the party had fish and chips and while it was not panko breaded, it was very well done and 2 huge pieces of cod. My wife had the lamb burger but she asked for it medium rare and it would be way better medium medium well. Great place if you are in the neighborhood...

Incredible food, shitty service. Our waitress hated us for no reason, she was just one of those angry Portlanders who thinks everything is beneath her. I did see another nice looking waitress who smiled at her tables. If we had gotten her, this review may have had five stars. UPDATE: I returned here after the owner reached out to me and let me know my experience wasn't the norm. I'm glad I did! The food is still delicious and our server was friendly this time around!

The tabor burger is the best burger! Omg- bacon jam! It's really rich so we order it and split with a kale caesar, which is the bomb! Kale salad has good garlicky taste, hints of smokey bacon. Love the atmosphere. It can get loud but ok to take the crew.

Consistently good service, and great, tasty gastropub style food. Always a surprising beer list, wonderful soups, it's great for lunch and dinner any day of the week. Bonus points for off street parking and outdoor seating. Also great for weekend family brunch.

Amazing. The interior is a bit cramped, but the food makes up for it. I had the mussels, which were served in a coconut curry. Simply amazing. I had bites of my friend's meals and they were great. Drinks menu is nice. I'm a beer guy and the selection is top notch.

Was contacted by the owner after a previous experience that was not so great. It was really refreshing to hear a business owner so concerned with any issues I might have had. After a few friendly emails I was excited to visit again and was glad that we did. Service, Food and Drinks were all on point and we had a fantastic dinner. Standing above the quality food and drinks has to be the leave of care and customer service. I am stoked a place like this is in the neighborhood.

WHOAH!! Lamb Burger!! Yum! Preface. I LOVE lamb. When I'm on my deathbed, I want lamb to be my last meal. The BEST meal I've ever had in my entire life was fire grilled lamb ribs while camping. Lamb, lamb, LAMB! And, I almost never get lamb burgers anyplace I go. Why? Because they're almost without a doubt WAY to over seasoned. Usually an hour after eating a lamby, I'm afraid that an there ACTUALLY might be an Alien inside me trying to rip his way out of my esophagus. So I took a chance based on all the positive reviews of the lamb burger. And I'm SO happy I did! Probably one of the best lamb burgers I've ever had. The burger was straight up fresh lamb with maybe some salt and pepper, arugula, and green olive tapenade, and a grilled brioche bun. I was a little worried that the tapenade would be too salty but it wasn't at all and the peppery arugula went amazingly well with the richness of the lamb. And the grilled bun is just how they should ALWAYS be! Paired it with a delicious little side salad of mixed greens, pickled onions, and lemon shallot vinaigrette and an ice cold Boneyard IPA. Salad was really simple but really fresh and tasty. The beer was cold, fresh, and from a clean tap system. I hate on places that sell PNW micros from dirty tap systems! Staff was friendly and didn't pester me. Interior is warm and bright and comfy. Can't wait for a second date with that lamb burger!

Really good food here. We tried the lamb burger with a side salad. The lamb burger was well seasoned and juicy on a brioche type bun. I was impressed that the side salad wasn't an afterthought but well dressed with a tasty vinaigrette dressing! I tried my son' Mac n cheese and it was so good! My son who is pretty picky, loved it and ate almost the entire huge bowl. The servers were really fast and attentive. The only small issue is that it's kind of loud in there and pretty dark. The volume I can understand because it's a small restaurant and seemed quite popular. I'm excited to go back, we will be back and try their other dishes!

There are several things I love about finding great restaurants in the Portland area: 1. You don't have to spend mega money to get delicious food (i.e.; the food carts!) 2. You can have outstanding food in a casual -or- classy establishment (Tabor Tav!) 3. You don't have to be in The Pearl to find a great little pub/restaurant! (Tabor Tav!) I am giving 4-stars ONLY because I had lunch...When I try for dinner, I will revisit my review and apply more stars, if worthy!! I ordered the LAMB burger. Oh! My! Stars! (MAYBE 5!!!) The burger was absolutely delicious! The burger was cooked to MY specifications! YEAH!!! When the burger came out, I was impressed by the presentation - nothing super fancy - but a nice portion, fresh and visually appealing! The burger came with a habanero crème - that was spicy and amazing! The burger didn't need a lot of other flavors to make it any better. The fries were cooked perfect! My mom had the classic burger. Equally as delicious as the lamb. The beer (Caldera Porter) was dark and rich and oh-so yummy! My mom had the best Rum Collins since we arrived in Portland!!! Jody was our server - super friendly and helpful. We were asked (by the owner, I think???!!!!???) how everything was and if our service and food were good. I am thankful that we had so much customer-service while dining. We loved the vibe (low-key YET classy) of the restaurant. I can't wait to go back! The dessert menu looked amazing (RED VELVET BROWNIE!) and I can't wait to try other offerings this lovely little jewel of a restaurant has to offer!!!

Very disappointed with our brunch experience yesterday. We frequently visit Tabor Tavern & are pretty easy going people...so for me to get this upset to write a review is a big deal. I have never had such horrible service in my life. Our server was rude from the start with no apparent reason. There were no drink refills offered and we had no one check in with us during the meal. At one point when we were able to ask her for more water she said nothing & grabbed a bottle from the other side of the table that was almost empty, she set it down very hard, walked away and did not come back with anymore for the rest of us. I am a vegetarian & specifically made that clear & asked for the bacon to be put on a side dish so I could give it to my partner. When I received my meal (from a different server) the bacon was on my breakfast sandwich. When I informed the server this was not how I ordered my meal she gave me an unfriendly look & said "OK" she then took my plate & brought it back without bacon (literally pulled the bacon off of the sandwich and brought it back) as a strict vegetarian this was extremely unacceptable. When our regular waitress walked by I had told her what happened & she just laughed and walked away. A few minutes later she comes out with a side of bacon and abruptly placed it in front of my partner and said "here ya go" I was shocked. I took two bites of my sandwich & could taste the remains of bacon...I was done. I did not even want to have to deal with the server's attitude again. My partner's meal arrived cold as well, he asked if she could heat it up and she said "No." Neither of us ate our meals and she did not even question why. The whole time we felt like the servers were absolutely annoyed and put out to have to serve us. We all paid and left feeling frustrated. I just wanted to let anyone that cares to know you have lost good customers.

This is a great brunch spot. The food was good, the waitstaff was attentive, but I feel like the sauces or something could be a little better. You will not be disappointed, though, and they have a lot of variety at reasonable prices. Check it out!

My wife and I went here for the first time for lunch and were more than pleased. The tavern sits at a good location and had good outdoor seating with umbrellas at every table. Inside was warm and inviting, with a good mixture of booths and tables. It's a small thing, but I also noticed the old fashioned light bulbs and thought those were a nice touch. The menu was small, but featured a nice variety of salads, sandwiches and entrees, each with its own twist. Although I'd never had a lamb burger, I gave it a shot. Not only was it good, but it was one of the best burgers I've had. The meat was moist and flavorful and I especially liked the mixed greens and sauce that came on it. It was a tad on the salty side, but it definitely wasn't "too" salty, and the burger itself was juicy but not greasy, which you don't find a lot. My wife ordered the fish and chips with a side salad w/ ranch. The fish had a light, yet crunchy batter and was cooked well. The salad had a good assortment of greens and she really liked the ranch, which had a good balance of sweet and tangy flavors. I would say that the food prices are a tad high for a bar, but after looking over the descriptions of the food and then tasting its quality, they're spot on. The only real downside is the slightly small menu.

I had never heard of this place but when I came here for dinner, I realized that I used to drive by this place all the time! It was really busy the day I went but we didn't have to wait long for a table. The wait staff was really nice and very helpful. I ordered a moscow mule and it was fantasic! It was a tall refreshing beverage, for anyone who wants a tasty drink when summer comes around. I order the fish and chips...oh my goodness. It was huge! I swear it was like a whole side of a fish. It came with malt vinegar aioli, amazing with the perfectly fried fish. It also came with a side of minted peas. I love peas, especially mint peas! That's one thing you don't usually see when you order fish and chips, some green veggies. The peas were cooked perfectly, not mushy but bright green with texture. It was a fantasic way to spend my last dinner in Portland.

This is the closest eatery to P's house and I have to say, Thank you for moving so close to such a great place to feed my face at. The cauliflower fritters are so good, I could have just had them all alone without a meal but I had heard that the fish and chips were good too, so I ordered them as well. I like to eat a lot of different small plates of food but the portions here are mass ive. If you leave hungry, its your own gd fault! P had a blue cheese burger and was nice enough to offer me a bite and I will forever cherish him for that morsel of heaven. Its a cozy place to have a nice meal and a drink and give a nice hand massage to the person you're dining with! GO!

This was a surprise. The outside of the place is very unassuming and it is located out on 53rd and Burnside where there are not that many other places. But inside the place was kind of classy. And they were packed early on a Thursday night. Service was good. It was very noisy. Lots of people having fun. We prefer quieter places so I gave it one less star for that. But the food was all 4 and 5 stars. We had the pulled pork bahn mi sandwich with fries and the shepherds pie. Sounds like simple dishes but the way they prepare these dishes is not ordinary. Everything was delicious. We will be back.

We went and got the cauliflower fritters and the fish and chips. This place was OK but I kinda feel like like they tried to hard. The beer and wine selections are good. The fritters were good. But the fish and chips wasn't that great. Everything was cooked well and we did eat everything but it's almost like they tried to hard to make it unique that it almost ruined the meal. The service was decent and it was clean. But not really someplace that I am dying to go back to. Just not my thing.

We have been here numerous times and its always just fine, oftentimes great. The drinks are creative and quite good. Its a gift to be able to walk to a local spot with quality food and great drinks. Quality is high here so folks who make it a habit to complain about great food and great service should understand that this is a neighborhood joint trying to please a community, not just the local underemployed blogger.

Went here for Sunday brunch the other day. The atmosphere was really nice and cozy. I ordered the veggie scramble - It was decent but next time I would tell them to hold the roasted garlic cloves ... Whoa. My favorite thing was the toast, brushed with olive oil. Can't complain about good toast!

At first glance, I worried that this place was trying too hard to gussy up the pub experience, but after a few visits, I think they're just gussying it up just the right amount. Their philosophy seems to be to take simple plates, but then engineer the flavors in each one enough to really surprise and delight you. All the flavors are balanced, nothing is heavy or overly sweet or fried-to-death. The beer selection is also well-curated, they have some great specials, and they'll put the game on, but the place never devolves into sports-bar territory, where the focus of the entire place is on the game. Great place to while away a rainy afternoon. So nice to have a place of this caliber in the neighborhood - I hope they stick around for a long time.

I've only been here for lunch. This place is high quality---atmosphere, food, rotating draft beer, wine list, friendly welcoming staff/owner. Would like to check out their brunch it sounds very nice and possibly their happy hour. I've had a great sando-Pastrami-----and delish draft beer. I love the feel of this place, great location. It's authentic, but new.

This a great little tavern with lots of good food. Great for groups and kids. They have a great happy hour and fantastic drinks! The service was slow today, but they were real nice. The Mac and cheese is not their best dish, but they have a great Brussel sprout appetizer and a great brunch too! They make the best bloody Mary's, yum! The prices are little high but you don't have to wait long to be seated! There is parking too!

Had the gyro.......very disappointed. If your looking for a gyro sandwich this is not the one you want. The meat was dry, not flavorful and frankly it wasn't even gyro meat. The sandwich was bland and dry. Very disappointed!!!!! My boyfriend got the shepards pie, which was very good! That's the only reason I may return. Do yourself a favor skip the gyro, stick with a burger, or try the shepards pie.

Another case of wanting the hometown kid to succeed, even if the hometown kid's not your first pick in the fantasy draft. So take the four star rating of mine with a grain of salt (and lime ... and some Patrón if you're buying). I'll always root for the businesses of my neighborhood. Believe me, Tabor Tavern was a hard sell at first. I love having a friendly neighborhood pub. I love the huge photos on the walls and the grand but efficient placement of the bar. And I love that they sell upscale bar food. But I visited for snacks and happy hour dinner on a couple occasions and, try as I might, I did not love the food. When your pretzels are too salty - even with a full beer on hand - and the pretzels are just the start of the meal, you know there are going to be issues. The fried chickpea appetizer, in a similar fashion, turned out to be really dry beans flaky with too much spice. And the mac and cheese was perfectly acceptable, but nothing special. It bummed me out! I wanted to shout from the rafters with praise for the new neighborhood tavern. Instead, when people asked about it, I'd muster up a polite, "It's mkay, mkay?" And it really is OK, even better than OK based on some friends' acclaim over the Tabor Burger and the poutine. The salads are also good. And ain't nothing the matter with the drinks. In honor of election night, they even ran a special that involved tallboys of PBR with shots of Old Crow. So we toasted to A'murrca and joined the other patrons in their whoops and applause. And, perhaps thanks to the whiskey, I was proud not just of the U.S. voting populace but the hometown kid doing better, making East Burnside/North Tabor/whatever my 'hood is called a nicer place to live.

There's a new tavern on Burnside, and it's a game changer. Hello poutine with onion gravy so rich, so dark, so perfect on a cold night. The atmosphere is casual, comfortable, and pulled together. The place is often packed, and the servers, though busy, are on top of their game. Drinks come quick enough, and the bartenders are well versed in craft cocktails. This isn't the sort of place where you have to play it safe and order what's on tap or a cocktail with a single alcohol and one mixer. This is the sort of place where you can branch out with ingredients like ginger simple syrup, or giant curried ice balls. Live a little - they won't let you down. I plan to get to know this place a whole lot better over the course of the fall and winter. I'm not saying I'm going to carve my name into a table or a corner barstool...engrave it, maybe. Organize a UYE or two, fo' sho'. This place must be experienced. It must be Yelped. It must be reveled in. It's just what the neighborhood needed.

Happy hour.... The cocktails weren't awesome and the food was too expensive for what it was- My burger was totally naked with a teaspoon of white sauce (do other people like naked burgers? Not my thing.) Fries were seasoned nicely but were mostly bits. Food was typical of a mcmenamins style food. To owner: sorry for the unfavorable review. Staff was pleasant.

This place is extremely loud and you have to yell to hear people. The wait staff was nice and accommodating but the food lacked luster and was greasy and overpriced. Good drink selection and I have heard that the brunch is good and it isn't crowded. I may give it another try.

This afternoon I found myself running errands over on the east side and decided to have lunch at Tabor Tavern--and what a great choice I made! The look of the place isn't memorable and although it wasn't very crowded, eating at the bar felt cramped. I'm as narrow as they come, yet every single person who walked behind my REALLY uncomfortable bar stool, bumped into me. It's a silly thing to comment on, but I was bumped enough times to remember I'll never sit at the bar here again. But that aside, the Tabor Burger was wonderful! It was superbly executed--from the beautiful grill marks on the perfectly toasted bun, to a precise ratio of blue cheese and bacon jam to each mouthful of beef. I eat my burgers medium and the doneness was flawless--this is one perfect patty of beef. It's not a fussy burger by any means, it's just delicious. The best part was the meaty, but tangy bacon jam. I had thought it would be more salty but it's the perfect compliment to blue cheese. I ordered my burger with the salad which came with a lemon-shallot vinaigrette which I thought was divine. It was bright and fresh--again, nothing fussy, just tasty. I was at Tabor Tavern during brunch so I treated myself to a Caesar, a bloody-mary like cocktail with clamato. Although I guzzled it down because anything with New Deal snuggled in it reigns supreme in my book, it was bit of the weak side for my taste. I loved the heat level and the hints of black pepper but the icing on the cake was a curry-pickled piece of cauliflower in the garnish. That added spice with the rest of the drink was great song in my mouth. Two waitresses where running the show when I got there and they did a banging job. Both really friendly and professional. Had I not had such a crappy seat, this would have been a 5-star adventure--my next trip out here you'll find me in a booth ;D

Good outdoor seating on a slightly busy street. The service was pleasant and fast. I had the Veggie-Q which had insanely tasty sauce on perfectly grilled tofu steaks with cabbage and some other stuff I think. It was quite impressive for $10. They're right up there with Lardo's.

Gf ordered fish and chips and it was like a 12 inch huge piece of battered cod! The fries here are as good as it gets. They appear to be handcut but theyre so crunchy on the outside and perfect inside. I dont know the trick theyre using to do it! Atmosphere was nice. Service was very good. Server was knowledable of the menu, came back frequently but wasnt interupting our meal or conversation. I would give the place 5 stars except i probably ordered the wrong thing. The spicy chicken sandwich was just Meh. Its called "spicy" cause they splat a little huy fong chili garlic sauce on the bun. the chicken was plain/bland. the batter was crisp and looked excellent but was also a little bland. We will be back and I'll try something else!

Comfort food at its finest, that's what this place is. We've been here a couple times now and both experiences were good, if not excellent. The food and ambiance is really what we come for. The mac and cheese is not only unique, delicious and comforting, but it is of epic proportions (and it makes me feel better about myself knowing it has kale in it.) The burger is simple yet perfect - they actually cooked it medium like I asked! The fish and chips are not only wonderfully breaded and deep fried, but it could feed a small village. The brussels sprouts will make you want to go home and recreate them. The lemon zest is a perfect touch. Scotch egg? Amazing. The cauliflower fritters were good, however it really could've been any deep fried vegetable and I wouldn't have known the difference. If I may offer some constructive criticism to Tabor Tavern, it would be two things: 1. The signature cocktails are fantastically crafted. They however came in a tumbler that was only filled half way. It's just...well...weird. Mentally, it makes me feel like I'm not getting my money's worth. Maybe put it in a martini glass, or perhaps charge $2 more for a full glass. Something. 2. They could really benefit from a hostess, or maybe one more waitress. At least working during peak hours. Both times (a Wednesday night and a Saturday night), our experience was what seemed to be overwhelmed waitresses waiting, clearing and cleaning tables, working the wait list, etc. The front was left unattended for long periods of time and waitresses quoting wait times of 30 minutes when a myriad of tables cleared only minutes after the customers left because of the wait; they would have been seated within 5 minutes. Lord knows we don't need another McMenamins on our hands (service-wise.) The two of us had a cocktail each, an appetizer and two massive entrees for $50.00. We will happily come back to support this lovely neighborhood restaurant with most excellent and brilliant food.

After visiting Portland for over a week, we decided to return for more! I absolutely love the beers and cocktails and was impressed with the congenial servers once again. Our waitress gladly brought out a dessert we bought, with a candle in it for my dad's birthday. Also, we had to buy some more bacon jam!

Small-ish Portlandia restaurant with a great vibe in a super cute neighborhood. 3 of us ordered the sautéed mussels and poutine. More than enough for 3 hungry people! The food was absolutely delicious. The mussels were a bit too spicy for me, but I am also a wimp when it comes to spice. The only suggestion I have for TT is to include bread with the sautéed mussels plate!

Comfortable relaxing spot to pop on in and have a sit in a booth. Fun lights above.. lots of warm wood and brown tones. Folks working there are easy going. Felt like the neighborhood was embracing the place giving it that relaxed feel. They've got a decent happy hour as well as a decently priced regular menu. I started off with the Lavender Lady of course. Gin and lavender? Great combo, they add lemon juice, Cointreau, which makes it even more lovely going down. We checked out the food menu and ordered a fusilli mac and cheese with gouda, kale and hold the sausage (that might have created a visual). The mac and cheese was creamy and smoky. They've added corn which gives a little bite of sweet here and there. They top it off with pretzel crumbs. Perfect combo. They spiced it quite nicely. Plenty enough for 2. We also split their arugala salad with almonds, beets, herb vinaigrette on the side. The salad was not quite enough for 2, and the price was 8.00 but the mac and cheese filled us up. I must confess I don't always know how to pronounce some of the pastas like fusilli. Husband reminded me about some old tv skit where they were making fusilli people and that's why he was able to know the correct pronounciation because of that educational show. I then went to youtube and found it for your dining pleasure. youtube.com/watch?v=p5nc…

Hubby had a physical at Providence PDX and we needed food QUICK at four thirty after he'd been fasting all day for his bloodwork. We had kiddo with us. What to do?it's our old 'hood, but we are not so familiar with the new yummy places. After a quick check of yelp, we headed here. Happy hour, cheap eats! and kids can come until 8pm. SWEET. Now, I realize not all of you have kids so you don't think that is so sweet, but there are plenty of places that DON'T take kids at happy hour... go frequent them if you're not up for the kiddos. Ours is mostly well behaved. She reads a book and eats. Only the occasional whiny day. This was not one of them, thank goodness. I had a delicious Lavender Lady after Hubby said he was too hungry to drink. Bummer for him, good for me! It was yummy. Much like a lemon drop only more interesting. We had corn fritters, fish and chips, Caesar salad, white bean spread with crostini, DH had iced tea, and princess had mac and cheese and lemonade. Nitpicking? the salad pieces were too big ( hubby), the bean spread needed more than four crostini ( me), and the mac and cheese was not super hot ( Princess). But overall, good flavors, nice presentation, yummy sauces. Especially the harissa honey with the corn fritters. It was delicious. Fish and chips? perfect. Oh, and they don't have rootbeer. We think this should be fixed. Princess always wants rootbeer at taverns and several in town have a good one. Otherwise, our food was delicious, my drink was awesome, the prices are in line, and it was a good experience. Our server was initially a little rough ( she thought husband said "LSD" instead of "iced tea" WTF?) but it got better as we settled in, so maybe that was just us and not much about her. My only other comment is that it is LOUD. They have some tiles on the ceiling but really, there is a lot of ambient noise in there, which can get a little old. Or maybe I'm the old one, eh? We'd go back. Maybe not on a Friday night, but definitely it's a cool place.

This new one just sprang up in the neighborhood so we knew we would eventually try it. Wow. I'm glad we did because they cater to just about everyone. There are both vegetarian and gluten free options on the menu so you can't go wrong there. Great atmosphere and friendly helpful staff along with free WiFi. This is not your typical bar food and a step up, I'd say. It's refreshing to have decent food in a bar, isn't it? Now all we have to do is try the Sunday brunch

Cozy and delicious. I've been here twice and had the bunless Tabor burger both times. It arrives on a small bed of arugula and is arguably one of the more delicious burgers in town with the crumbles of blue cheese and bacon jam (BACON JAM!). The pickled beet and chevre salad with hazlenuts and arugula was totes good. The boy kept stealing bites. My fiance had the lamb burger and it was insanely good. It was smokey, lamby, and whatever green aioli it was resting on was perfect. He also had the smoked tomato and olive soup. What spoonfuls of it I could wrestle away from him were unexpectedly good. We both agreed the soup was the highlight of the meal and are awaiting our next meal here, if for nothing else than that soup. One small kvetch, when asked how I like burgers cooked, I always answer "rare." I rarely get it rare anywhere, but I ask. The Tabor burger was not even pink in the middle, though it was juicy enough that I didn't send it back. Please, at least tell me you refuse to make a rare burger rather than leading me to believe my request will be honored. That's all - everything else was stellar!

A few hours after going to Tabor Tavern, my friend reflected, "I feel like this is where we should have gone this whole time, instead of all those 'hot spots'." I wholeheartedly agree with my friend. From the moment we arrived, the waiters were incredibly friendly and kind. After my friends and I finished a bottle of water, the waitress instantly brought us another bottle of water, we didn't even have to ask. The food was pretty good. I got a nice croissant egg bacon sandwich that had a delightful marionberry jam. I also got this Bloody Mary that had the right balance of pepper and spice. The coffee was good too. My friends and I left pretty happy. This was my last brunch in Portland. I am leaving for an indefinite period of time. My friends and I had put a lot of eggs in the Tabor Tavern basket, hoping that this restaurant would provide the right space for our final goodbyes. We chose well.

I did not have the fish and chips, but I saw the mammoth fish and was super taken back. I did have the mac and cheese hold the chorizo, but with kale and corn. Its expensive at $13, but a large portion. The creamy consistency of the mac and cheese was good and loved the crushed pretzles on top. Wasn't a fan of the sweet corn addition. That being said, for $5, one got two pretzels and mustard. Pretzels were very good, but was hoping for a beer cheese sauce as well. Still most in love with the pretzels as Hub. Its an odd location close to 82nd and busy Burnside so monster trucks are making their carbon foot print while one eats at the picinic tables outside. Inside very nice wood and tavern like. About 8 beers on tap as well as cocktails for the feminine side.

Amazing! Very cool vibe, beautiful bar, great service, and the food is incredible. I had the fish 'n' chips - very generous portion with fresh, meaty fish and nice, light batter. My husband had The Rev sandwich and it was decadent and delicious. It's a great place for lunch.

FANTASTIC burger. Great beer selection, comfortable spot to hang. Good spot for a couple beers while placing a to-go order.

Great neighborhood joint. So envious we don't have stuff like this in the Bay Area. Visited on Friday night, and there were two seats free at the bar around 7pm. I ordered a martini (great!) and my cousin ordered the cider beer (awesome!). We enjoyed our evening there. It was pretty busy, but we had great service and could tell everyone else was too. For dinner, I had the fish and chips. I had seeem what others were saying about it - so I already had an idea what I was going to order. Plus, I had been craving fish and chips for weeks, so I was delighted that this didn't just quench the craving but also was unbelievable! Oh, and the fries...nice! The amount of fish was quite a bit too! My cousin had the turkey sandwich...and I could just smell it and had to take a bite. It had this awesome onion chuntey sauce stuff on it. And the turkey was fresh. Finished the night with the spciy margarita. Has a good twist to a normal margarita! Tip: make sure you mix it a little when it gets half way or so drank...as the good stuff floats to the bottom. All in all, we had a great night. Spent a couple hours there, talking, eating great food, and having the best service.

We have been to the Tabor Tavern sevearl times now and it never disappoints. To me, it is the classic neighborhood tavern, Portland style. The food is always good, from burgers to salads, good selection of beers and the atmosphere is nice and relaxed. Bacon jam? YES PLEASE! Get it, trust me. You'll love it. The kale cesar salad is delicous as well. If you get dessert, get the butterscotch pudding. OMG, the best! They have Wifi and my hubby says he's going to just work from there from now on. He works from home. He's joking of course, but that's how great the place is. The waitstaff is also super friendly and relaxed. They seem happy working there like they are all friends. It makes for a very pleasant atmosphere. The outdoor seating is great too. I think the price is very good for the quality of food you get. If you are looking for a 'dive bar' with cheap food, this is not your place. You get what you pay for. And $12 for a really good cheese burger (with BACON JAM!) is well worth it to me.

I typically try to reserve judgement on a restaurant's service if I'm there at a busy time and they're having a hard time keeping up, but I'm happy to report that, despite my most recent visit being at a peak time, both the service and the quality of the food were impressive. They kept me, and a restaurant full of others, happy. Each time I've visited, I leave with a the feeling that our neighborhood has a very welcome addition in Tabor Tavern.

5 star brunch! I wouldn't change a thing about my experience here for Sunday brunch. Service was top notch and everyone's food was excellent. I ordered the eggs Benedict with pulled pork. So good! My friends ordered the breakfast Sammie, which was bigger than I expected for a croissant sandwich. One person ordered the fried chicken sandwich which looked colossal. Fair price, too, my breakfast with coffee was $12.

It's a neighborhood joint, basically a bar hang out, parading as a real restaurant with high class interesting food. I read the reviews and waited months before giving in to what I knew was going to be disappointing. Tonight I ordered a medium well hamburger to go. The litmus test. It was five minutes to my house. The patty had no heat left in it. It was rare...very pink. The bottom bun was so soaked with the ugliest grease that I could have wrung it out. Instead, I threw it away. Nobody in their right mind would want that in their arteries!! There was a somewhat interesting soup which did not at all make up for the inedible burger. I look at all these Yelp reviews and think...who are these undiscriminating people? They are certainly tricked by a tavern, parading as a good restaurant!! No need to go back!

Service was excellent. We ordered the kale caesar and it was a hair salty but still wonderful. Then the chipotle sweet potato soup. I licked the bowl clean. My guy got the turkey club. The bacon jam is very tasty. We'll be back.

Dropped in the the Tabor Tavern the other night, on a whim, and boy were we glad we did. We liked everything. Perfect lighting and ambiance, cool remodel photos, and old train system artwork... the food was so yummy. I ordered their caramelized Brussel Sprouts, and signature burger... with bacon jam! Delicious! We will certainly visit again, and often.

Decent British style pub. The food was above average for a pub. I had a lamb burger and the wife had this great quinoa, kale and cranberry salad with smoked tofu. The smoked tofu was out of this world, I think they make it in house. We ate at the bar. The service was a little slow and the wait staff seemed a bit more caught up in what was going on between them behind the bar rather than making sure that the patrons were taken care of. Overall, this place is perfectly serviceable and we would definitely come back for a low-key dinner and beer.

Love the atmosohere. My lamb burger was perfectly cooked and fries were crispy. The habenero creama was WAY too hot (and I love spicy!). Menu looks great and can't wait to try other items.

We stopped in for the first time today at 1:00 for brunch/lunch. There were four of us with differing tastes, so we got a good shot at the menu here. Interesting menu. Everything looked good. One had the Tabor Burger, two of us had the Lamb Burger, and one munched on their Turkey sandwich. Fries and salads floating around too. Everything was just excellent. Very imaginative dishes, and served promptly by smiling, polite people. (No pouty, frowny, new-agers working in this place!) We wound up with excellent desserts and spent another hour here just talking. We like this place a lot and will definitely be coming back. There are some other things on the menu that bear much closer inspection. Breakfast sounded great as well. I'm really happy we found the Tabor Tavern.

Amateur hour bartender and manager. From the movie, "When former Verizon wireless customer service employees get service jobs". I guess you gotta get your experience somewhere. Maybe I'm getting old, but I remember when people got off the script and treated others like people.

Moved into an adjacent neighborhood and were looking to find a great local pub with good food. Found it here. Small and cozy but we always seem to get seated in a reasonable timeframe. Simple menu but full of great options. Fish & chips with the minted peas is great. Their charcuterie plate is also great - especially the bacon jelly. Yup.....bacon jelly. Great beer choices as well. Love this place!

Caramelized Brussels Sprouts with Bacon, Shallot and Lemon. Hell. Yes. Amen. Hallelujah. Etc. Etc. I kind of want to leave it at that. I realize, however, that that would be a grave disservice to this delightful little establishment. The fish and chips and veggie mac n cheese were also fan-effing-tastic. The mac usually comes with chorizo which I think would have been too rich for me. The veggie option was plenty rich and flavorful. I loved the flavor of the kale in the mac. The fish and chips were also a standout. A GINORMOUS piece of deep fried fishy goodness on a bed of salty chips infused with malt vinegar flavor. So so good! This place is super cozy and the service was attentive and friendly. Looking forward to going back soon.

This place is so great. Never a packed brunch, amazing food, great drinks. It's our neighborhood secret. I don't even really want to tell you this, but I can't keep this place to myself in good conscious. It's just too good and every bit deserving of a five star review. The food is stand out delicious, the drinks are great, the staff is super friendly and awesome. Looking for brunch? Quit looking, come here, you're welcome.

Wow. Truly impressed with Tabor Tavern. It seems many places try to do the British Pub thing and though you often can't go wrong with real down home British food, this place just does it right, and with an extra finesse as well! I ate here a few days ago, we were greeted by a very friendly waitress that sat us immediately (I can't remember her name but she was awesome!) They were fairly busy in the restaurant but she took our orders and we received our drinks almost immediately. The food was not far behind. And oh the food! I ordered the Shepard's pie which was huge! It was by far the best Shepard's Pie I have ever had (And I have eaten some damn good Shepard's pie namely in the UK). Anyway, it had a nice little spice to it, the perfect ratio of meat to potatoes. The cheese on top just added an extra little heavenly taste. The side salad served with it had great dressing!! My friend ordered the Mac'n'cheese...which I was torn between ordering. It literally puts a whole new meaning on macaroni and cheese! Ah the smoked gouda, the kale, the tad bit of sweetness, it was a flavor whirlpool of creamy deliciousness. ( I put hot sauce on my bites, but it tasted equally as good without) My other friend ordered the Tabor Burger. I should have written about this first. This is why burgers were invented. This is seriously one of the best burgers I have ever bit into. He got it with pickled onions and the malt aioli which I don't think came with it (He had eaten here before and apparently knew how to order!) The bacon jam on this made me a little nervous at first when reading it on the menu. It could either be really good, or well not so good. Oh my was it good! Good is an understatement. I want that on everything I ever eat again, with the arugula and the fluffy bun, this burger is everything a person could want in life. The fries were awesome as well, they were super crispy and had a tinge of sweet malt vinegar taste to them which made them impossible to not keep eating. Everyone who has not been here, you are missing out. I really hope this place sticks around for a while because now that I have been here, I'm not going to be able to stay away! Oh and the decor, and feel of the whole restaurant is comforting and welcoming. Not a single bad thing to say about Tabor Tavern. Thanks for an amazing meal I look forward to my future visits!

Love. I had the cold fried chicken sandwich with sriracha mayo and blue cheese. I haven't stopped thinking about it for the past month. My husband had a burger and maintains it's the best he's ever had. The service was friendly and fast, and the selection of beers was pretty good.

I've been here quite a few times since it's in my neighborhood (lucky me!). The food and service has always been great. Their fish n' chips have to be the best in Portland. The sweet malty drizzle and lemon zest take it over the top. I've never had bad service here. In fact, I've had stellar service - particularly once when 7 of us came barrelling in for dinner. We were able to get seated right away (brillantly orchestrated by our server and a couple that had just sat down) and had top notch service the entire time we were there. I'm happy that this place opened in my 'hood.

Ventured over to Tabor Tavern after some Hawthorne shopping to meet friends and family. I didn't personally order any of their signature cocktail drinks, but I had the pleasure of trying a few of them, as well as ordering a few dishes to try. Tasted their Moscow mule, French 75, and their Anjou Collins. The Anjou Collins was fantastic, the rest were a bit sweet for my liking. But I don't like super sweet drinks, otherwise they were winners. They've got their menu down. Their quinoa salad is full of flavor, and I would most definitely recommend this dish. Lots of Kale, so a nice healthy bar item!! Major points in my book. The red onions are super strong smelling (in my opinion), but the rest was delightful, fresh, and healthy. The bacon wrapped blue cheese stuffed dates are quite excellent, although I immediately wished I was drinking a glass of wine to pair with this. It's tough to do anything wrapped in bacon wrong...but these were an extra dose of yummy! I loved the blue cheese and the lemon dipping sauce. The folks next to us had the fish and chips, and they looked phenomenal, and lasted all of five minutes! So I feel confident in saying their fish and chips would be a fantastic choice as well. If I had a bigger appetite when I was ordering I would've opted for their brussels sprouts, they sound delish! Please try those too, and yelp about it! :) The bartender was friendly and lively, a perfect energy for this location. I also love the atmosphere and lighting in this spot, they really nailed i!! Oh! And extra props for on site parking....as a west-sider, crazy narrow neighborhood parking will be the absolute death of me. I enjoyed this spot, they didn't sweep me, but they do a lot right. Definitely a neighborhood attraction, and fun energy. Enjoy!

Waited a couple of weeks and went back to try something else on the menu. Kai remembered us (which really surprised me). I'm not a huge Brussels sprouts fan, but the appetizer sounded tempting. Carmelized, with shallots, bacon and lemon zest. Three words: Oh... My... God! I was seriously tempted to lick the plate. Our lunch was delicious, but I can't remember what we ordered... all I can think about are the Brussels sprouts.

My first 5 visits I have this place 4 stars for no particular reason other then I am stubborn and did not want the owners to think they had nothing to improve. Well, I concede. After taking friend after friend here, their service and food has always been consistent. My friends have all said "great choice!" I have never had the same server and ALL have been genuine. Tabor Tavern thank you for your consistency and amazing bacon jam.

There is only one thing keeping this from being a four-star review...and that, dear ones, is variety. It actually IS the spice of life and the thing that keeps me interested in a joint. Being relatively new-ish, Tabor Tavern is very good. But they aren't so new that more entrees couldn't be added to their menu. We've visited twice for dinner, and I long for just a couple more options, so I don't get forced into ordering the same thing every time. That being said, my hubs thinks the Shepherd's Pie with Smoked mozzarella is almost as good as being back in Ireland. And their signature burger is also very tasty. The chalkboard o' beer selections is local and well-rounded. We will be tackling brunch here soon-ish, and I expect my updated review will be amended to cuatro stars.

Mmmmmm. Poutine, tasty, tasty poutine. How can you go wrong with fries, covered in cheese curds smothered in gravy? Well, some places do go wrong, horribly, horribly wrong, but not Tabor Tavern. Imagine if you will perfectly cut, seasoned and cooked fries, top those fries with actual real cheddar cheese curds. Now comes the piece de resistance, the gravy. Tabor tavern puts this dish over the top by using onion gravy and not just any onion gravy. This gravy is like really good french onion soup simmered down until it is just a little too thick for soup but perfect to smother those yummy fries and make your cheese curds all melty and delicious. I have sampled this wonderful concoction several times over the last few weeks and always found it to be a perfect dish of artery busting tastiness. My cardiac surgeon highly recommends this dish as he does have kids to put through college. I also highly recommend the Fish and Chips and the Lamb Burger. The Fish and Chips is a whole fillet of haddock friend to crispy perfection served with some of those perfectly cooked fries. My only comment is the sauce on the top of the fish can be a little strong for some, you might want to get it on the side. The Lamb Burger was perfectly cooked and dressed with a mint yogurt sauce and pickled onions. Tabor tavern wraps all of this tasty food with good, friendly attentive service and a drink list that has decent, inventive drinks that you don't have to google the ingredients to understand what you are drinking. All in all a great addition to the neighborhood.

I gave it 3 stars because the food is good but way overpriced for the total lack of ambiance both inside and out. It's also noisier than almost any sports bar I've ever been to. The real deal breaker though, is the service. It has been rushed (in spite of having to wait forever to be noticed) and kind of rude all three times we've been there. Thought about going there a couple nights ago and my husband said " But they charge way too much for their burgers and the service is terrible!" Really a shame since the kitchen definitely has their act together.

For right now I think this place is okay, but I think there is a lot of room for improvement. Located on Burnside this cozy little tavern brings a great new hot spot into the neighborhood. The ambiance supports a low lighting and woodsy environment. They have some nice booth seating and an expansive bar as well as a few tables in the center. Tables are also set up outside when the weather is nice. The beer selection is okay. There are 10 beers on tap and all very different. More on the dark side of the beer options. I have to say that I went here with two other people and a small infant. It was pretty kid friendly but the waitress did seem a bit annoyed when we put in for a second order of sourdough for the kid to munch on. The food we ordered was in general okay but everything we had was a bit on the salty side. Consistently all three dishes were too salty. I told the waitress this and she took a discount off of our tab. I thought that was a nice gesture. My friend ordered a margarita and it was perfect. Not too sweet and not too salty....just right. I will give this place another chance for sure. I would recommend increasing the beer selection and using less salt in the entrees.

Disappointed. The food was just ok by Portland brunch standards and the service was terrible. I ordered Eggs Benedict with no meat or fish and asked to sub Brussels Sprouts for the side. The server said "ok." Most places offer extra veggies, or tomato, but I was happy with the greens and eggs and muffin I was expecting. Also no mention of price difference for subbing the Brussels Sprouts. First my Bennie should have come with arugula, which last time I checked was not meat or fish, instead I got two poached eggs on a dry, store bought, under toasted, English muffin; the hollandaise was good but hardly worth the $10 price tag that was not discounted, and they charged the full $7 for Brussels Sprouts as a side...$17 for mediocre at best breakfast. I asked the server about the discrepancy and was told they weren't allowed to make substitutions. As I started to explain that she should have mentioned that when I ordered she walked away from the table mid sentence with my credit card. Making the experience that much more annoying was having to flag down a server multiple times for coffee and water refills that were treated as an inconvenience. Definitely won't go out of my way to dine here again.

Heard good things about this spot. Decided to try it and I'm not sure how to feel. The food was decent. Better than bar food, but not amazing, and I may have liked it more if the service was good. It was busy, but our waitress seemed to not have time, and was not discreet about it. I may give this spot one more chance, but am still undecided.

Food was great, drink was great. We went for happy hour tonight and were going to stay for dinner when our friend joined us. However, before we were even done with our drinks, a woman stopped by our table to ask us how long we were staying because there was a 45 minute wait and they were concerned about how long we were waiting for the additional person for dinner and the fact that we were occupying a table still. We were going to order more drinks while we were waiting. Instead...we opted out of dinner, paid our bill, left, and we will not be back. It was shockingly rude.

I hoped and prayed it'd be good. The interior impressed - it's a unique look for a cookie-cutter building shape. Old photos and sweet light bulbs take you back to a simpler time. Seated ourselves right along the windows. Outdoor seating looked nice, but didn't want to roast in the late Sunday sun. Service was PROMPT. Beer selection - awesome. Ordered and got our food quick. Highlights: kid's mac & cheese is AMAZING, not that nuked, orange crap. But watch out, it's served HOT. I had the vege sandwich with smoked tofu and bean spread. OMG, amazing. Cheddar soup was a small cup with BIG taste. My folks both had the turkey sandwich - great bread, pickled onions, the works. Want to go back badly and have this burger + bacon jam everyone is raving about. THANK YOU TT for creating a kick-ass food option in the higher 50s. You are a welcome addition to the neighborhood, please stay a while. (PS - Could have done without the over-served man in the Steelers jersey, but from your eye-rolls and dismissive head shakes, so could you.)

I totally overestimated the height of MT tabor...I guess I assumed "mount" meant a mountain?.... So it took me a while that when people told me I needed to check out The Tabor Tavern "in MT Tabor' I endlessly looked for a pub next to a mountain....my bad... The Tabor Tavern is the essence of a neighborhood pub....in the 21st century..full bar...decent rotating beer selection..and an ample upscale and generally healthy menu offering. Although things like the quinoa salad are enticing at times I've leaned towards the smoked deviled eggs...the Tabor Burger is a no risk choice and the flat iron steak is dependable....the staff appears to be consistent and I see many of the same people waiting on tables and behind the bar....so it's nice to get a "nice to see you again".... Another plus is that rare parking lot next to the Tabor if you aren't walking or biking...and although this does not pertain to my personal situation..."minors" are kicked out on the street after eight pm...they actually seem too nice to kick you out...literally. So the Tabor Tavern is the perfect neighborhood pub...al a 2013...this would be a perfect hang for George Jetson -the 21st century pub...but Elroy would need to stay home past 8.

Please go to the Tabor Tavern and order the soup. It is always delicious. The chef who does the soup should open a soup cart. I would follow him into the pits of hell, fighting off all manner of unimaginable torment, just to eat this soup. ORDER THE SOUP HERE.

The Tabor Burger -- with the aforementioned bacon jam -- is the best burger in Portland, hands down (Toro Bravo coming in a solid second). And they always seem to have Boneyard RPM on tap. If you're after a burger and a beer, theres on better combo in Oregon.

This is our favorite go to spot for brunch, lunch and dinner in NE for several reasons. First of all, the mac and cheese is THE BEST I've ever had, and with two children I consider myself an expert. Secondly, they are very flexible with menu substitutions, especially for the kiddos. Third of all, they make excellent cocktails and have a delicious wine and beer selection. Finally, the menu caters to all tastes and diets/non-diets (see mac and cheese comment above). We love the ambiance, the wait staff, and the location. The only thing I would change is making the yummy yummy grits a menu staple.

This is one of our current favorite go-to neighborhood spots. The staff is always friendly and efficient. The food has been great every time. We've had sandwiches, burgers, and the soup is AMAZING. I get the soup every time, no matter what it is. Even if it sounds a little odd--apples and cabbage with blue cheese, or beet and something, they are always rich and complex. Cocktails are fun, I think they just changed to more summery drink list. I had a drink that was sort of like a mint julep, but I think it was made with gin possibly? Very crisp and refreshing. But if you like soup, TRY THE SOUP.

My 2-star review relates to the service, not the food. My husband and I were so excited to finally have a "date night out" from our 10-month old (as much as we love her :). We got there around 5:45 on a Friday night, just in time (we thought) for happy hour which goes from 4-6. But after we ordered our drinks, the waitress did not come back until right at 6:00 and said we couldn't order off the happy hour menu any longer. It wasn't her fault and I'm sure that's just the rule, but we thought she would be a little speedier to come back and she was also pretty quick to say "no" even though it wasn't a minute past 6. We should have come earlier, granted, so that part was definitely our fault. It just wasn't the best experience. It seemed a tad stingy, and my husband was not even halfway through his beer and we were given the check. Overall the service left us feeling kind of negative and definitely put a damper on a much-overdue night out. The food was pretty good, but I don't know that we will choose to go there again.

Went to Tabor Tavern again with friends and one had the fish and chips. These are the best fish and chips in the city. I've had fish and chips in London (as well as many places in the US) and they were not as good as this. Rarely do you find this quality of fish. The breading is crispy and the fish/breading is not soggy at all. It is made with rice flour with a malt vinegar and honey glaze that adds to the crunch factor, as well as the flavor. My friend, who has eaten fish and chips all over the country and is usually disappointed, proclaimed these the best she's ever eaten. I've also got to say that the burger is at least among the best in the city, if not the best, with bacon jam and bleu cheese and arugula, and perfectly cooked.

I've been to Tabor Tavern twice with my wife and two kids. If you live in the neighborhood, you know this place is a godsend. There's not many if any places nearby that offer a full menu of food, great cocktails and allow kids until later in the evening. We went on opening night and I was prepared for things to be a little bumpy. Much to our delight, everything was fantastical. We started with the chickpeas, soups, veggie chili, salad and Tabor Burger. Throw in a few cocktails and dessert and we rolled out of there satisfied. Our only minor complaint was that it was a little dark in the back of the restaurant but that's small potatoes. Went back a week later and had another fantastic meal. Everyone was friendly and the food was spot on. I'm looking forward to coming back with the Mrs. and enjoying a few cocktails sans kiddos. I think think Tabor Tavern has filled a void in our neighborhood. Remember folks, they've only been open two weeks. Give them a chance!

What an awesome addition to west of 82nd/east of 39th/Burnside-ish area! There are some jewel restaurants and spots around these environs, but the majority of spots cater in the delights of the deep-fried variety and video poker with a side of UFC Tap Out meathead-ness. We now have a gourmet tavernesque option to our commute home with Tabor Tavern. With a robust selection of fresh beers on tap, full bar, generous happy hour and creative and delicious food, Tabor Tavern promises to be a hit. We went two nights in a row, taking in about half of the menu and I'm counting the days until we can go back and explore the rest. The mac n' cheese is the best I've ever experienced- hands down. Spiral noodles, gouda, chorizo, bread crumbs, kale and corn made for a monumental experience. My husband had the pastrami sandwich and loved every bite of it, especially the huge slices of artisan bread and sprigs of arugula. The white bean spread was an epic offering to their vegetarian dishes, served as a starter spread served with grilled bread, and on their veggie burger. For it being the first week of opening, the service was great. Very friendly, personable staff eager to make good and open to suggestions and ideas. We will definitely be back. Great addition to the neighborhood!

****Best Tavern/Bar food I have ever had. And that's not an easy thing to say. This place has a very inviting atmosphere, a bar to belly up to generous table sizes, outside seating and great natural light. My favorite thing about new pub in my neighborhood IS THE accessible menu for women/health conscious individuals/foodies without lacking the mac & cheese, burgers and fries that you would expect to get at a pub. The service was PDX perfect and our food came out quickly. I had the arugula salad with Chicken. The chicken was a generous portion, the almonds were seasoned, the beets were perfect and the dressing was light and fresh. I have had a PDX favorite salad for years and the Tabor Tavern just stole it away. My boyfriend had the lamb sandwich and soup. To ever get him impressed about food is an amazing accomplishment. He loved them both. And said to me as we left: "we will be regulars here". Welcome to the 'Hood, we are so glad you are here!

Tabor Tavern is an ok sort of place. During the happy hour, when there are food specials, the place is crowded and there doesn't appear to be enough seating. The food is fine. From looking at the photos, I'd say the mac and cheese looks very doable, though the prices are a tad higher than the value received. The crowd mimics its area - basically a cross between a Laurelhurst and a Mt. Tabor vibe, flavored to some extent by the main Providence Hospital nearby, I'm sure, but definitely a notch or two up than some of the frumpier places on the East Side. The thing I liked the most about this place was the black and white wall art with the old Mt. Tabor streetcar, resembling a San Francisco cable car, displayed in 4 segments on the rear left wall. The Mt. Tabor area was probably in the hinterlands back in the day, monikers such as hipster and granola were not yet coined, and neither MAX nor Subarus could cart you around. Imagine that ... a Portland that was more conventional than weird. Tabor Tavern is fine. There's really not much else to say about this place.

We had the Brussels sprouts appetizer, a root beer (excellent) and a turkey sandwich, this was an excellent lunch... Got a little ripped on the fries but this was a really great lunch, some AC or fans would have been great... The burgers looked good also... Great spot

This is a great neighborhood spot for those days when you just want a burger and some beer. The crowning glory? Bacon jam/spread. Not only does it MAKE the burger, but they sell it separately so you can win the heart of your next party hostess (great hostess gift), or take someone's Christmas stocking over the top. Tabor Tavern rotates the beer they have on tap, as well. There's something for everyone, and a few wine selections for those few Portlanders who (like me) prefer a little vino generally speaking. We've enjoyed the cauliflower fritters, the veggie burger and salads. It's all good. This place is generally full, which is a good sign. It isn't the kind of place that's worth an hour wait, but it'll hit the spot!

This is our neighborhood go-to. Some of the best fish n chips in town. The only reason I can't say it's "the" best fish n chips is only because Portland has a very competitive arena for fish n chips. I guarantee the fish n chips are better than anything you'll find in your hometown (unless you're a native Portlander). They also have a strong salad game.

Do not order the Gyro! I repeat, do not order the gyro! Get a burger like I should have. I have had a burger from here on takeout a couple years ago and it was amazing. I wanted to try something different the 2nd time around and I wish I wouldn't have. I was very happy to actually go in and sit down and try the place out. Super friendly server and a damn good bloody mary to start. I ordered the gyro and my boyfriend got the tabor burger. My gyro sucked. I'm sorry, but it did. It was bland and just all wrong. I've had amazing gyros from food carts for 1/2 the price. My boyfriend's burger was amaze. This place is good. I just ordered the wrong thing. Silly me.

Eating at Tabor Tavern is akin to drinking a Capri Sun. You can stab and stab and occasionally hit the sweet spot. Or you can watch your straw slide and break as you die of thirst and wonder - why me? Pulled pork sandwich = broken straw. Cheeseburger with bacon jam = sweet spot (but don't get the smoked mozzarella, it smells like bandaids). Bacon brittle dessert garnish = broken straw (and possible broken teeth). Poutine with onion gravy = sweet spot, like OMG, yassss moar please, sweet spot. So glad they brought it back. Family friendly until 8 so you can dine without feral children if you go a little later, which I appreciate. The staff is always friendly and super efficient. I've only had one bad service experience here and I think it was due to the server dipping into the cooking sherry, if you catch my drift. Also, bacon jam is available for purchase! I was like Oprah this Christmas "you get bacon jam, and YOU get bacon jam, the whole family gets bacon jam!" So, yeah, give them a try, but be prepared to call your mom in tears if you have to cut open your Capri Sun like a nerd. Or something like that. Metaphors aren't really my jam. Bacon jam, however, is.

Happy Hour with the kids. Ordered mac and fritters for them, I got the kale caesar with chicken. Skeptical about the quinoa in the salad (generally I'm always skeptical of quinoa), but it was delicious! I've been dreaming about it every since. My son loved the mac. Service was good. We will be back!

This place was okay, and so was the service. I got the veggie chili which was okay. The bread it came with was good. I got the hoprageous (sp?) cider. That was the best thing I had. My boyfriend got the burger and the fries were good. It has a nice old timer style but new, and definitely feels like a portlandia crowd. I haven't had their breakfast, but I'd recommend happy hour.

I was kind of sketchy about bringing my nephew and neice here. I didn't think this place would be kid friendly, but I was wrong. We were seated promptly and was served very fast. They accommodated us and made sure the kids were comfortable and happy. Food was great and of course the beer was top notch. There's something about the Mac n Cheese because we kept eating off of my neices plate and didn't really care what we ordered. Good thing she doesn't eat much because we devoured her food. I think she wanted to take some home... oh well too bad. Tip for Yelp: GEAD

Food was decent but waitress lost points by giving me flack for having my burger without their special sauce. She just had an attitude that is not as common anymore in Portland. Nothing awesome and since it's farther from our house and not great service we don't think we will be back.

My boyfriend and I have passed this place many times on our way to Target and always made a mental note of stopping in. Well we finally made it and I was not disappointed. There were seats outside that would have been great with the weather, but unfortunately there was no table service. That was alright and we were seated at the bar. The brunch menu looked great and I ordered the Rev, a fried chicken sandwich with gravy and a fried egg (yum!). The food came with a side of fried potatoes that were cooked perfectly, but they were a little salty (and I like a good amount of salt so it's a little hard to over salt for me). My boyfriend got the Cure, which had some amazing pulled pork, but the fries were overly salted. The atmosphere was comfortable and the staff was friendly. I will definitely be coming back for more!

There have been very few times in my life where I took my first bite and then felt unworthy. The tabor burger here at Tabor Tavern is a revelation. The fresh bed of arugula comfortably sitting atop a mouth watering pure beef patty, between a soft pub bun. It's delectable. The wait staff was very friendly. (Not in the Jamba Juice kinda way which is good.) The beers were great and at the proper temperature. The decor is also really great, dimly lit with a woodsman kinda vibe. All in all this is a good place for a date night, or to grab a beer with the guys. Phenomenal overall experience. I'll be back.

We have been in here many times and it's a pretty consistent feeling I have every time I go but I'll focus on my last visit which was last Sunday afternoon. I had been cooking and eating thanksgiving food for 4 days straight and had to get out of the house or I might finally lose my mind. Brunch was just ending and upon walking in I could tell they had been slammed for hours and there were no open tables but we saw folks leaving so we decided to wait. We are not usually ones to wait long and always have a back up plan instead of a wait. Anyway: We got seated in about 5 minutes, waters and menus right away and though our server seemed tired she was prompt and attentive. Holiday weekend: I think everybody was tired. We had a couple of beers - they always have a varied and local beer list on the chalk board. Also had the fritters which I always order and enjoy - the menu changes slightly every time we go but there is always some version of fried corn bread with dipping sauce yum! I thought we were going to order more but I finally hit my wall after stuffing my face all weekend so that's it. More next time. This is a nice comfortable easy place to grab a good snack and a bevy. I like to go during slightly off times otherwise they are jam packed.

Tabor Tavern has a really solid selection of beers on tap and a unique cocktail menu to peruse. The food is always awesome, whether you choose a burger, vietnamese pork roll, or fish & chips. The service here has been consistently attentive and friendly.

So good. I'd been to this location when it was Bangkok Thailand, it was a favorite of my other halfs, so when I moved to Portland 5 years ago we would frequently dine there. When Bangkok was closed and turned into the Tavern we were sad, my other half had visited with his mom and reported that it was anything to write home about so I didn't concern myself with going. I should have not taken his word for it. He's not as much of a foodie as I am. That being said lets talk about the decor briefly then we can go to food. I love the interior, way better than the use that was made of the space before. Very homey, very taverny, and the bar was a great focal point along with the arrangements of photos. Loved it. Now the food. Amazing!! So pleased. I had the tabor turkey club. I wasn't sure about the bacon jam, however, it really made the sandwich. The combo of sweet to salty was wonderful and the turkey itself was just the texture I love. I'm very picky on my sliced meats. The salmon chowder was perfect as well. Very generous chunks of salmon. The service was good. Not overly personable but friendly. I will definitely be back to try more of the menu and enjoy the atmosphere, I can only image its even more quaint in the evening hours.

Mmmm Tabor Burger with Bacon Jam...delish! The meat was juicy and perfectly cooked. The amount of Bleu Cheese to Bacon Jam ratio was excellent. Every bite was packed with flavor. My tastebuds were jumping with joy on every chomp. The spicy fried chicken was fried at the right temperature. Crunchy on the outside and moist inside. My only complaint is that the sweet chili sauce made the bun soggy so it had to be eaten with silverware. The fries were homemade but left more to be desired. Obviously the attention was more towards the burgers and sandwiches then the side item. Sorry Potato, you are just a tater. This place was jamming on the weeknight we went. Shortly after ordering the place seemed to clear out. The ambiance was nice and the wait staff was great. Come here to try the Tabor Burger at least once.

Had the Tofu Reuben - tough, I know but... NOPE! The tofu was so thick, it's all you could taste. Not enough kraut to save it. Mussels? SALT BOMB and over cooked (embarrassing, really... They're mussels) Nothing could save this dinner: the boring atmosphere, the insincere staff, except for the bar up the street.

As promised since you responded to my first review I've been back, a couple times actually. I appreciate your tentativeness and your reply was polite while showing genuine concern. I'm giving you a star more then my first review because your staff was very nice. The beer selection is also pretty good. The food I still feel is hit and miss, one of the times I went back we just got appetizers, some where ok, some where pretty good. The other time I got the poutine again, dirty style with pork and BBQ sauce, I again thought it was not very good. The temperature was a bit cooler then it should have been and I think that kind of ruins it and the fries didn't seem very crispy either. The first time I went back I had two different cocktails, both not very good. The second time I stuck with beer which is a safe choice here. Not a bad place to meet up, nice environment, decent beer selection but the food is hit and miss and so are the cocktails in my experience.

This was our first stop in Portland, and it definitely set the mood for our vacation. We arrived around 9:00 PM and were told to "sit anywhere" by the friendly but at times oddly curt waitress. Most people were just having drinks, but we were hungry so we settled in a booth. Both of my companions decided on the Tabor Burger, one added a fried egg and the other added avocado, and respectively they went with the fries and the Tomato soup for their sides. I was not hungry so I ordered an Alameda Black Bear Stout. My friends let me have a taste of their food. Both sides were spectacular. The fries tasted fresh and very crispy, perfectly done. Even the ketchup tasted premium with them. The tomato soup won me over though. It was smoky, flavorful and warmed my belly to the fullest. We spent the rest of our trip in search of tomato soup as perfect as Tabor Tavern's, to no avail. The burgers were moist and well thought out. Every element was necessary and worked in harmony with the rest. From the bun (brioche) to the cheese (blue) to the greens (arugula) down to the very BACON JAM... despite being full from my last meal, I wish I had ordered one myself! #regrets My stout was smooth and chocolatey. It was everything you would expect of a stout and more. And it was my introduction to the crazy cheap beer prices of Portland. I expected to pay at least $7 for that beer, so it was a nice surprise when it only came out to $4.50. Awesome sauce!

Just walked in and sat at a table. A booth opened up so I got up to move and got yelled at across the room . Bartender yelled "can you wait for someone to clean the table off?" I replied "can you please not yell at me across the room? " Then the table was cleared and I sat with my mother and daughter for 10 minutes and waited. Very disturbing ... The food is lovely and the place is cute and clean!

I may just consider moving to Portland for the cuisine at the Tabor Tavern. Caramelized Brussels sprouts with bacon, lemon zest and shallots = amazing. Adult version of Mac & cheese w/smoked Gouda, kale, corn, chorizo and pretzel crumbs makes your eyes roll back in your head. And the schilling ginger hard cider is imminently drinkable. Deep sigh.

Our breakfasts were oily and pretty bland. The Rev...the cheese and bun are totally unnecessary, the fried chicken was mediocre, and the gravy was sorta blah. My linguisa scramble was fine. Again, too much oil. Not greasy just...limp and damp. The house bloody marys we ordered weren't very good either. Sour, weak, watery, and not spicy but obviously filled with hot sauce. Our server was equally sour faced. "What do you want?" "Here its is." "How is it?" then the check was dropped and she was gone. The place is nicely decorated, they have a decent looking whiskey selection for a small neighborhood place, and there is a parking lot. That's about all I can say for my experience, and I really don't feel the need to return. Meh.

"The thrill that you spill down my brew, wakes me up and I feel so new, they've even got benedicts too! I couldn't dine with another, oh, I couldn't dine with another, groove is in the brunchhhhh..." This place is deee-licious: not too crowded on a Sunday morn, tofu sammie made me feel like a unicorn, just the right blend of savory and sweet, needed something light as I'd already had some meat. Service was spot on and very nice, for more coffee, didn't have to think twice. C'mon down and grab some grub, the brew is tasty, so dub a dub, dub-dub....

Even if I didn't live 6 blocks away from Tabor Tavern it would still be one of my favorites. The fact that we can walk there in 10 minutes is a huge bonus: Lunch/Dinner: If you haven't had the Tabor Burger or something else with Bacon Jam, you're missing out. It makes normal food exceptional. It's a savory, sweet concoction of bacon, caramelized onions and other secret ingredients all made into a jam that adds magic to any dish. They also have the BEST SOUP I've ever had. The chef is amazing at combining different flavors Most recently we had a horseradish, beet, cheddar soup (forgive me if I messed that up...but that's what I recall). It was so good. We often just order the soup, and their fresh soft pretzels and make a meal of that. It's tough to go wrong. Brunch: How much fun is it to wait in line for 30-45 minutes for brunch?....not any fun at all. Tabor has become pretty dang popular, but we can almost always get right in. It's not yet the Jam or Tasty and Sons of the brunch world...which is shocking because their brunch is AWESOME! If you're looking for something light...keep looking. Tabor specializes in substantial, satisfying Brunch food. They also have a great brunch cocktail list. We love their bloody mary or their bloody Caesar! My only wish is a larger mimosa...I find the Champagne Glass sized mimosa so tiny compared to the other drinks. Drinks: This is really Tabor's specialty...they have a great beer list including many local brews on draft, always a cider and usually an interesting brew on nitro...in addition they have wine specials and a creative cocktail menu. We usually go for a draft (beer for my hubby, cider for myself), but when we veer off of that list we've never been disappointed. All in all, it's a great place, great service....nice little touches like remembering things about us from our previous visits (which I love). The food is so good (particularly the bacon jam and soup). Did I mention their outdoor seating in the summer? We're glad to have Tabor in town...and will probably see you there!

I've been here a few times, most recently last week. Service is always very good and I like the extensive options on the rotating menu. I also like the sit "anywhere you like" hospitality. Though, because of Tabor Tavern's popularity, there may not be many open seats in the restaurant. The last time I was here, I went with the "Bangers and Mash", which were two hefty-sized link sausages, mashed potatoes and arugula lettuce. The sausages were seasoned strongly. But what turned out to be a winning way to eat was to cut the sausage into very small places, which allowed the sausage flavors to meld into the mashed potatoes nicely. The arugula provided a tart light contrast to the rest of the dish. I noticed on the menu that they serve weekend brunch at Tabor Tavern, observing that "The Cure" (potatoes, kalua pork, gravy, cheddar cheese, eggs, pickled peppers, arugula lettuce and toast) is available. That's a good thing. Cuz, as everybody knows, the instinctual thing to do after a night of drinking is to feed a hangover with a hot and heavy breakfast.

Kinda average Portland place. My gf is vegan, we were excited to try it out after the employee on the phone told us the veggie burger was vegan. Unfortunately when we came to dine, we found out from the server that it had egg in it. Anyways the server directed us toward a salad with tofu, which was okay. I tried the chicken burger. Fries were a bit soft and chicken was lacking flavor. It was overwhelmed by the celery-heavy slaw. B Everything else was okay. The server was nice and helpful. Average local beer selection. Not too crowded. Not pretentious. An okay joint.

Tabor Tavern is your typical Southeast Portland (yes, it's technically in Northeast) hipstery restaurant/bar. The pictures on the wall remind you of a better time of Portland streetcars (aside from the carnage in one picture that we never quite figured out the point of - but enjoyed), so that was kind of sad. The service was as expected. The waitress put me in charge of the table a time or two for some reason, for some unknown reason. She wasn't the most helpful person in the world throughout the night, but she was attentive enough and got the job done. The food itself was good. It wasn't enough to make me want to hurry back, but it was good. Of course, "spicy" in their mind is not spicy in mine, but that's common everywhere. Don't go out of your way to eat here, but know that you'll be perfectly happy if you do end up eating here.

Never have I eaten at a restaurant where I felt like being a customer was a burden to the wait staff. We were checked on maybe once during our meal. Our water was never refilled, we had to ask for a refill of soda, and coffee was never refreshed. When I asked for another bottle of water, the waitress simply reached over and took the bottle from one end of the table and placed it in front of me (it was maybe 1/4 full). Then she never came back and we had to get our own bottles after that. One meal order was incorrect and the waitress made no apology and just said "okay" and took the plate away. It was still missing a side order and when we mentioned that to a different waitress, she laughingly said "okay" and brought out the side. Again, no apology. What happened to common decency? We won't be back due to this experience.

It's not just that I believe in my heart of hearts that Tabor Tavern has the best Mac & Cheese in the world. It's not just that their watermelon with fresh serrano blew my freaking mind, nor that my hangover DEMANDS their fried chicken sandwich above every other. It's not just that the owner, Zig, and the Chef, Chris are two totally stand-up guys who I had the pleasure of working with for a while while in the seafood business. But all of these things together make for a five-star establishment, and one of my favorites in the whole city. Did I mention they have an awesome beer selection and the service is always top-notch? You simply can't go wrong at the Tabor Tavern: you can't go wrong with their specials, their soups, the signature dishes, their tried-and-trues, their service nor their libations. All across the board, Tabor is a winner, and I'm stoked to live within close stumbling distance.

I've noticed that there are some pretty polarized reviews on this Yelp page. I think this comment from Amy S. is an accurate representation of the more negative sentiments: "It's too bad this place sucks, otherwise we'd think of it as a nice option for casual, neighborhood dining since for the most part their food tastes good and the ambiance is nice." What the fuck does that mean? Saying a place sucks in spite of good food and atmosphere is....cryptic, to put it politely. I've been here twice in two days and the servers were nothing short of lovely. Both times there were 5-and-below kids in the party (three of em in our visit today) and I didn't witness any rolled eyes or nervous shudders. There's ample space for groups -- we called in minutes before arriving with a group of 10 and there were tables already pushed together right as we walked through the door. I didn't recognize any of the beers on their bright, legible chalkboard -- an exciting discovery (I am new to Portland, so feel free to call me a philistine for never having tried a fresh-hopped nitro pale ale before). The turkey club is delicious. The fish n' chips are divine. The median price for an entrée is $10 and for the quality? A steal. Apparently the menu is changing on Thursday, so head there soon if you'd like to order a filet of fish as big as your quadricep and at least four times as juicy. If I were a bigger douche I'd attribute the minus-one-star to the bad light that slants into the booths just before sunset, but really it's because I've been dishing out 5-star reviews like hotcakes recently and need to tone it down. I'm sorry that this overall positive review is at the mercy of my critical anxiety. But I hope the owners will take solace in knowing that they'll have my business well into the future. Cheers.

So far everything I have eaten here has been great. The pricing is average, but there are many interesting things on the menu I am looking forward to trying. The deco is wonderful and gives this place a really nice atmosphere. I have found the staff to be attentive and helpful.

Much better food than your typical beer pub. Good beer selection, and they rotate them frequently. The space is nice, and the service has been good to excellent every time I've been there. Really, what more do you need in a beer place? The only negative is that it somehow feels kind of chain-like, even though it's not. Whoops, one more - it can also be unbearably loud.

Horrible food Horrible service Horrible management!!!! Horrible = Tabor Tavern Please read this and don't waste your time even going here just head to the Woodamans Tavern on division st. I over heard some of the staff talking and they had such potty mouths it was unreal!! I believe the one girls name was Brandy! I couldn't believe how trashy these people were espically this Brandy girl. WOW Tabor Tavern learn how hire class not trash! Kristen: How dare you question my validilty... I'm a very reliable source. What happened to good ol customer service these days? I will never return to your establishment so why would I need to talk to the owner? So he could what talk to me and apologize. I just want everyone in the pdx area to know about this place and the type of people who work for you. And I really don't appreciate you feeling the need to wrote me back on here! If I wanted a response I would have called, like I said earlier I will never return so no need for calling!

Just walked over to Tabor Tavern as we love our neighborhood spot. Arrived before 7pm and waited at host stand. When finally approached we were told they couldn't seat someone with a child past 7pm, even though we arrived prior to 7 and had just watched another family be seated right before us. As we were talking to hostess I pulled my phone out and it read 7:01pm. I'm super bummed that I don't want to return to a favorite neighborhood spot of ours...

Tabor Tavern is a fantastic neighborhood pub and I'm honestly baffled by some of their other reviews. They have a great, cheap happy hour with food ranging from $2-6. Their food is awesome, well made pub food. Burgers? Delicious. Caramelized brussel sprouts? YUM. Kale Cesar with Bacon? Yes please. The cocktails are great. Outdoor seating is awesome. The atmosphere is relaxed and I've always received great service. I've been here just to read a book and grab a burger at the bar, for dinner for 2-4, and have gone with a large party of 10+ people and was well taken care of every time. All in all, Tabor Tavern provides great food/drinks at a reasonable price with a relaxed atmosphere....an awesome addition to the neighborhood.

I highly highly recommend either the Mac and Cheese or the Tabor Burger. Best case scenario, go with someone that wants to share, get one of each and split it. You won't be disappointed! Also, their bacon jam is life-changing. The atmosphere is fantastic! It can get a little busy at times, but I mean...it's Portland..if a restaurant is never busy, you should probably be concerned.

New favorite place. Friendly people, carefully crafted and inventive food (raisin potato soup = out of this world), and sublime flavor profiles. We were there at lunchtime on a Tuesday and it was not crowded. Love love love! Try the fish and chips. Far from ordinary, it comes with crispy fries and minted green peas. It's quite a large piece of fish. I shared it with my mom and we both got plenty to eat. The shredded lemon peel on top of the expertly fried fish elevated the dish to better than your normal pub food. Zig, the owner, gave us a taste of the house made bacon jam (they sell jars of it) and I can think of many ways to use this delicious treat. He suggested using it on ice cream. They serve it on a burger with blue cheese. I'm thinking of ways to include it on thanksgiving appetizers. Should be a hit.

Tabor, I want to like you, but you're so stinking rude. Your delicious drinks and food can't make up for the shoddy service I've now experienced 3 times in a row. 15 minute waits for service, grumpy waitstaff. Don't bring even the happiest, quietest kid because they can't deal. For a neighborhood pub, you're not very neighborhood-y.

So delicious. A friend and I recently stopped in for lunch. We were both craving burgers so it seemed the perfect opportunity to try the Tabor Burger. This burger was so marvelous I think I took 4 or 5 pictures of it and then sent evidence to a friend to brag about what was about to go on in my mouth. The Tabor burger is slathered in bacon jam. Bacon flipping jam. It is then dressed in a smattering of blue cheese, topped with arugula and served on it's own plump little brioche bun. It's damn sexy. Like the burger equivalent to Ryan Gosling. When he had a beard. It was delicious, as were the fries. For some reason neither of us imbibed in any adult bevs but the tap list looked better than decent. I will be back shortly to explore that part of TT further.

Delicious food! Really thought the bacon jam was gonna be overrated but it's no joke! Had the Tabor Turkey Club and the bacon jam with the smoked provolone was amazing. Decided to go with a cup of the veggie chili and was not disappointed. The atmosphere was chill but warm... Cozy and welcoming... Not too tight but not a big empty box. It was a bit smoky inside from the cooking and dim, too, which made me a bit sleepy. Easy to get to, good parking for Portland. Kind staff and attentive.

Food was innovative and yum. Server was so friendly and smiley but it was a little hard to get her to the table at times. Nice tables outside on a sunny day. Mussels in curry was delish.

I had lunch today with a couple co-workers. This was my 4th time eating lunch here and it seems like it has gotten better with each visit. Not that it was ever bad because it's been very solid since they opened. I suppose good to great is the best description. It was my co-workers' first visits and both of them were very happy and satisfied. Great job Tabor Tavern. (The homemade ketchup is an amazing touch btw)

Tabor Tavern is a solid choice, but it didn't quite live up to the hype I heard about it before going. (To be fair, none of the much-hyped restaurants in Portland I've been to have fully delivered, except maybe Nong's and Ox.) I would give Tabor Tavern 3.5 stars. The atmosphere is standard Portland tavern: wood, Edison lights, brick red-brownish walls. The old Mt Tabor Streetcar photos are a nice throwback. The service is good. The staff pays just enough attention to you without being overbearing. The servers are unpretentious, which is a big plus. The food is (moderately) elevated bar food. Nothing super fancy, but a number of solid options. Here's a run down of the things I've had: Banh Mi Sandwich: Okay, but nothing to write home about. Wouldn't order it again. Filet Mignon (Valentine's Day special): The filet was great. I requested medium-rare and that's exactly how it arrived (a sad rarity in Portland is a chef who knows how to cook a steak properly, I'm glad Tabor Tavern hired one of them). The horseradish mashed potatoes that accompanied it were bad - too much horseradish, which led to not a spicy but a surprisingly bitter aftertaste. Poutine with Onion Gravy, add Pulled Pork: Good comfort food. Salty, in that you'll need a lot of water after eating this, but it was tasty nonetheless. Could have used a few more cheese curds. Tabor Burger: I have not tried it, but my dad and husband both like it. Good fries. It reminds me of a house burger from one of my favorite Chicago restaurants, so that's big points! Lemon Macadamia Crumble Jar: Best thing I've had and I'm not usually big on lemon desserts. Creamy, sweet, and just tart enough. I could eat just this and be happy. This is a place I'm sure I'll frequent, because the food is pretty good and it is walking distance from my house. However, I don't know that I'd be compelled to make a special trip for it.

Nice place a good meal over all good local bar. This place has a nice menu and our server Erin made the night cauliflower fritters were tasty the mac and cheese was awesome well cooked and well seasoned we had an issue with the poutine which the fries were cooked in over used oil Erin fixed it right away with a new entree. I will return to try the poutine again and due to Erin's service

Had a marvelous dinner here. We ordered the delicious fritters with the tomato/bacon jam, deviled eggs and then the Tabor Burger, as well as The Club. Everything was shared and I have to say, Yuuuummmmmmmm!!!! I also ordered a couple cocktails that were both full of amazing flavor. Definitely will be back.

We have tried so many times to like this spot. Good food program, poor operation. Living in the neighborhood, it's so frustrating. A group of 5-9 of us in the hood always go out together, we're almost all industry professionals. I've been embarrassed to visit here with a group of friends and here's why: Several bad visits with staff displaying bad attitudes for arriving within two hours of posted closing time. (You know the feeling when you walk in and eyes roll and watches are checked?) Checks dropped at our table when were still drinking and eating. (One hour before close) an issue with inconsistent closing times. (Often find door locked 45 minutes early) The downward spiral of what used to be good drinks... (What happened to the those good cocktails?) Please just stay open or change your posted hours! Close at ten if the shifts are too long? I would only go back for lunch togo.

Sadly, Tabor Tavern does not live up to its potential for a great neighborhood eatery. We would come here a lot more often if it weren't for their repeated carelessness and lack of quality assurance. We have had so many issues with this place that we have no hope it will ever improve. For example, I had what was probably the worst cocktail I've ever tried in Portland. Ever. It says a lot about the bartender because she recommended the drink as one of her favorites on the list - it sounded good but tasted awful. I barely drank any of it and the bartender never offered to replace it, even though it was clear that she noticed it sitting there. She also charged us for it on the bill. Additionally, we've had cold/bad fries at least twice (dining in the restaurant), and have waited longer than normal times for our food on more than one occasion. Most recently I placed an order for a salad for pick-up during lunch. When I got back to work, I found that they totally screwed up the order - giving me chicken instead of salmon, and leaving off the roasted tomatoes that were a main ingredient of the dish. It's too bad this place sucks, otherwise we'd think of it as a nice option for casual, neighborhood dining since for the most part their food tastes good and the ambiance is nice.

My favorite burger in Portland! Whenever I'm craving an incredible burger, I go here. The arugula, bacon jam and blue cheese on the tabor burger is absolutely perfect. And it's less than 10 bucks during happy hour! I recently tried their cauliflower cheddar fritters. OH. MY. LORDY. So delicious.......... The wait is never terrible. The service is great. Atmosphere is simple and lovely. The price is super reasonable. It's a fairly new neighborhood staple!

PDX Paloma- well mixed and refreshing. Good beer selection. Lompoc are one of my fave breweries and they had one of theirs on tap. Done deal. Poutine app with pulled pork- I would recommend ordering without the pulled pork because it was overly salted. Pretty much inedible. Not sure if that's how it is all the time or we came in on an off night. I think with correctly seasoned pulled pork the dish would have been delicious. The onion gravy is french onion soup-esque and kind of sweet with all the carmelized onions, which I enjoyed. Turkey club was fantastic. Turkey + bacon Jam + smoked gouda + toasted bread = delicious. Tabor burger with beer cheese soup- soup was light and creamy surprisingly and not super heavy like most beer cheeses I've had. It had a little spice kick, just enough to add good flavor and was well balanced by the cheese. Burger was correctly cooked to order. Mild blue cheese and bacon jam as well on the burger. If I were to do over again, I would try a different cheese as something about the blue cheese and bacon jam didn't sit right. It just didn't seem to meld together as nicely as I wanted it to. Brioche bun was nicely toasted so the burger didn't fall apart which was lovely. Could have used some tomato, pickle or some kind of mayo for some added juiciness. Wait staff was friendly and helpful even though we offered feedback about the overly salty Poutine they were acommodating and asked the kitchen to make another.

I ate here once for dinner and left feeling "meh". Typical pub food with a twist. But seemed a little steep (price wise) when all was said and done. However, I was driving down Burnside with my dad to get lunch and had him pull in. He asked to go to a pub and it was the closest one to us. And my gosh, I am so glad we stopped in. Our server was so polite and friendly. The food came out very quickly. We went around 1:30 and the place was nearly empty- it was nice that it was quiet so that we could have a great conversation. We ended up having brunch (served until 2 on Saturday and Sunday). I DO NOT REGRET THIS DECISION ONE BIT. I had the fried chicken sandwich with the over easy egg. My dad had the kahluah pork fries. BOTH WERE DELICIOUS. This definitely makes me want to go back for dinner and try more selections. And you can bet that I will be back for brunch!

Wow. I live in the neighborhood. Just brought my 13 year old daughter there (for the first and last time). At 7:03, as we stood looking for a decent table for a few minutes, the NASTY waitress stopped her and said "Excuse me, are you 21?" She's 13. "Well, we don't seat minors after 7, because they have to be off site by 8." It's 7:03. We were in the place before 7. We were going to try the place for dinner. Edit: The response I got says it all. The reality is that as much as we've tried to like this place, they won't let us. The service is painfully slow, the food is mediocre, and they are lousy neighbors.

I knew I was at a winner after one bite. This is my kinda place: not too foo foo where I need a magnifying glass to spot the sliver of why I'm paying $35. Not too low end where I'm looking for Lysol. I'm conservative with my 1 and 5 stars, but quite comfortable giving these folks the highest kudos. I'll keep adding to the following as I work the menu: SNACKS The Bubble and Squeak serves as an entree if you're dining solo. Hard to go wrong with a crisp potato pancake and beer-braised oxtail; I just wish they would serve this hot rather than very warm. I didn't connect with the Corn Fritters like others did as they were too "bready", but would drink that Harissa honey if it came in a glass. Still, seven pieces for $5 was quite the deal. The Brussels Sprouts were scrumptious; sautéing versus steaming makes a big difference. Dare I say it, but there might have been a little too much bacon (blasphemy I know.) SOUPS Understated stars of the show (many reviewers rave about them) Tried three excellent soup du jours: cheese-based, mustard green, and curry chickpea. SALADS The Quinoa with grilled tofu was a healthy and tasty meal. The cauliflower puree topping makes the dish. The Arugula with Haddock was also good, but couldn't really taste the blood orange vinaigrette. SANDWICHES and BURGERS The Pork Meatball Banh Mi has been the only slight disappointment so far. The beer bread just didn't work. Traditional Daikon radish and jalapeños would have improved it. However, the heralded Tabor Burger delivered: a perfect medley of toppings, and the bun was not an afterthought. MAIN The Fish & Chips is probably their top seller; the largest portion I've seen in town, moreover, it was super delish. The peas compliment the meal wonderfully. My benchmark has been The Frying Scotsman, but now rank Tabor's version #1. Mac and cheese is one of those dishes for which everyone has an opinion: I liked, but didn't love it here. The Beef and Blue Pie had incredible flavor, the oxtail so tender. I realize it's dense, but didn't care for the ramekin-type bowl. Conversely, you get a very ample portion of their excellent version of Bangers and Mash. BRUNCH The Chip Buttie had all the right ingredients, but I wouldn't order it again. If the sandwich was a little larger and had green slaw rather than the less-flavorable purple kind, then maybe. The Chorizo gravy is soooo yum, order a side for home dipping. The Pastrami Hash is the first item listed on the Brunch menu, yet I found it just meh. Maybe a little less Pastrami and the addition of another ingredient would improve the dish. Service has been excellent each time. They are open during the restaurant dead zone of 2-5 p.m. Low key neighborhood so parking isn't an issue.

I gave it three stars only because the service is generally good and so it the beer. I typically end up spending about $50 for a lunch for two, but for $50 your money is better spent elsewhere. They charge $15 for a $8 burger. I think I've eaten here for my last time today because it just isn't worth the overpriced menu.

I love coming here! The staff is always welcoming and attentive. They have a great selection of micro brews including my favorite - Boneyard RPM IPA. I went with a couple of my lady friends and to start we shared the Ploughman's Plate. The assortment was delicious! From the bacon jam to the pickled blueberries - I couldn't stop snacking (or would this be appetizering?)! For dinner I had the koftkas. They came with a delicious dollops of goat cheese. I was able to sample my friend's brussels sprouts and I know I will definitely be ordering them for myself when I return. They get all 5 stars because not only is the staff great and the food DELICIOUS - the bathroom has everything I look for: seat protectors, paper towels (sorry hippies!), a purse hook (seriously - why don't all bathrooms have this), a trash can by the door to toss the paper towel you used to open the door and, though not a full length mirror, I was able to thoroughly check my rear to make sure I wasn't walking out of there with tp hanging out of my dress.

Time for an updated review. My family thought I've been much too harsh; they're right. They've insisted on us continuing to come to Tabor Tavern, and after many other meals, I'm now embarrassed about my previous assessment. Yes, every one has an off night; that was theirs. Both before that review, and since, they've been great. They're my neighborhood tavern, the food is creative and wonderful, and it's an easy place to grab something, and then know it will be excellent. Even ordering a turkey sandwich is an experience (have I mentioned the Bacon Jam?). If I have any complaints, it's the noise level. It's okay most of the time, and certainly a reflection that they're always busy, but it can get loud in there. Tabor Tavern, my family (and I) love you.

Great neighborhood bar, serving not your average food. Fantastic comfort food, kicked up a notch. Top quality homemade all around. Bacon jam was fantastic as well. Creative dishes, but still doesn't lose the classic quality. Cider on tap was great too!

The tabor burger is the perfect burger! Just enough of the bacon jam to make it a bit sweet and salty. The blue cheese is the perfect compliment. Love the toasted bun ..the fresh meat and the arugula gives it a touch of pepper. The fries are great. Good beer. Perfection

Service : solid Atmosphere : decent Food options : many Drinks : good Follow Through : poor Meaning, the spicy chicken sandwich was burned black, the garlic sauce would have killed a city of vampires it was so strong, and the chicken was so thick you couldn't eat it like a proper sandwich should be eaten. Great idea but the sandwich needs refinement. I will be giving them one more shot because some restaurants have off nights.

Great find! Nice interior, well-lit with a reasonable amount of seating. We were lucky enough to find a parking spot outside. The service was a wee bit slow but it was busy and our server was very nice so we didn't mind. They serve Tazo tea brand here and although the server accidentally gave me the wrong flavor she gave me a fresh bag when I asked for the Earl Grey that I ordered. No big deal. Hubby was pleased to try a pint of the Zig's Swig which is a dry-hopped Golden Ale made exclusively for the Tabor Tavern, by Lompoc. He said it was light and hoppy. For starters we shared the cauliflower cheddar fritters with pear chili chutney. The chutney was a perfect blend of spice and fruitiness and complemented the fritters. This was a real hit with us two! Next up we had a classic burger with the house-made quinoa and beet veggie patty and a veggie version of the Banh Mi with pickled veggies, sriracha aioli, serrano, cilantro, pretzel baguette. Both were tasty and we enjoyed the veggie patty; it was moist and flavorful. The veggie banh mi had a good little kick to it without being too hot. I would definitely get that combo again. Food here is above average for pub fare; it's more like a Gastropub. Friendly service and decent range of beers. We plan to go back for more.

Been here a few times, just wanted to give credit where its due. I really enjoy this place. Tabor Burger 1/2 Pounder blue cheese, bacon jam, arugula, brioche bun Bangers and Mash had Extraordinary Sausage. Fish n Chips - Huge piece of Halibut - tempura beer batter, minted peas, malt aioli Soups are always Great. Watermelon Gaspacho was a highlight over the summertime last year. It had Pickled Watermelon Rind. Always Great Beers On Tap. Service Is Prompt and Friendly. ....Bacon Jam. ....Bacon Jam. ....Bacon Jam.

LOVE the creative menu of Tabor Tavern! We found this place on our last trip to Portland, and have been craving their amazing Fish & Chips and grownup Mac-n-Cheese ever since. Seriously - the best ever, hands down. Our server was excellent, too (wish I could remember his name). The atmosphere is casual, with an urban flair and a gorgeous handmade wood bar top. Even though the restaurant was busy, the noise level was very comfortable, and our table had no problems conversing. Can't wait for our next trip to Portland - we'll be back!

Took my parents (visiting from Philadelphia) opening weekend. LOVE the decor, the lavender cocktail was superb, and that smoked gruyere mac 'n' cheese was to DIE for. And being from Philly, I appreciated the soft pretzel appetizer (as did the rest of my group, as it took quite a long time for food to arrive, presumably some kitchen kinks that'll work themselves out). My husband & I look forward to returning. (We live just south of Mt. Tabor - not too far of a trek.)

Very disappointed in the brunch, both in the food and the service. We arrived shortly after they opened on a Sunday, apparently just before the rush. We were sat immediately and asked about beverages. We ordered coffee because we hadn't had an opportunity to look at the cocktail options. The place filled up fairly quickly after our coffee was delivered to our table but or server was good about getting our food order, even checking on us after we were not ready the first time. It just went downhill from there, however. After taking our food order or server brought silverware. My fork had a crust of greenery dried to it. Our server never checked back on us to refill coffees or see if we were ready for cocktails, even though she twice visited a neighboring table and only needed to turn around to ask how we were doing. We didn't get any more coffee or a chance to order a cocktail until we could ask the kitchen runner that brought our food. Once ordered, my wife's Tabor Mary did come quickly, though. Now, to the food. My wife and I ordered one of Tabor Tavern's signature dishes, The Cure - French fries topped with eggs, kalua pork, cheddar, black pepper gravy, pepper relish, and arugula, served with buttered and peppered ciabatta toast; and the fried chicken and butterscotch waffle; plus a side of potatoes; all to share. The Cure: First, over-easy eggs should still have fully cooked whites. Ours were runny, which isn't a problem for some but to me is disgusting. The pork was tender and the arugula added a nice touch but the pepper relish was far too sweet. In fact, that was the problem with practically everything we ordered. Chicken & butterscotch waffle: It's probably a bit unfair that I had the chicken & waffles from the Screen Door within the last two weeks. Still, I tried to be objective. Tabor Tavern tries to set theirs apart from others by offering a butterscotch waffle with a bruleéd banana and bacon jam. The bacon jam was very tasty but the dish would be vastly improved without the banana and the substantial amount of butterscotch frosting. Much too much sugar for me or my wife to enjoy this dish. It felt more like some odd dessert than brunch. Potatoes: more like kettle chips than we were expecting and served with a very sweet house ketchup. Tabor Mary: I didn't try it. I'm not a fan of Bloody Mary's but my wife is. She described it as "watery" and "nothing special," and thought the choice of sweet pickled vegetable garnish with all the sweet already pervading the menu was odd. I wouldn't mind giving them a chance at dinner sometime but we won't be back for brunch again.

Still great. I come here 2-3x a month (most of the time with my friend). We always sit at the bar. Food is always fantastic. The mac and cheese is my current favorite. My only complaint is they're becoming so busy in the neighborhood that we occasionally get forgotten. No big deal because the staff usually rectifies. Yum. My favorite neighborhood spot.

This place has been very inconsistent for me. The salads I've had were great. The crispy chicken sandwich was jerky dry. The meatloaf was served cold. The brussel sprouts were amazing the first go around, the second time, they got no char on them and were just kind of a soggy mess of bacon and greens. They rotate an amazing tap list, which is really the best reason to go.

I've tried, I really have. Seemingly, every time I go, I enter with cautious optimism and every time I leave, I am essing my H. I'm probably picking the wrong things on the menu but is that really my fault? On the most recent visit, the kalua pulled pork sandwich leapt off the menu for me. LEAPT. Pork, pineapple and sriracha on a bun? Yes, thanks and thanks some more. However, it was so very Very VERY salty that it was inedible. I had two bites and both gave me a salt burn going down my throat. It makes me want a Gatorade just thinking about it. I think if I had finished it, there would have been an AG raisin by the morning. And this is coming from someone who is pretty salt tolerant. Overly salinated food isn't typically the problem here but it's always SOMETHING. There seems to be a lack of quality control. I can't imagine a chef with functioning tastebuds sampling that pork and thinking it was perfectly seasoned. The owner took it off the bill and that was much appreciated. Because of that, I would have liked to simply bump my original rating down one star but it really needs to be two based on my current level of enthusiasm for going here. I'm sure I will end up here again in about 6 months and will remain trepidatious about what I'll be served. There's always hope I'll be won over again but it is dimming.

The food here is excellent. The lamb burger is exceptional. Fish and chips truly fresh fish and a large serving. This place has great food, and the staff are friendly and attentive. I have enjoyed some of their menu items that seem to go out of their menu rotation, and on my recent visit, the lamb burger was not available. The lamb gyro was ok, but lacked what the lamb burger excelled in. My husband got the fish and chips, and it was wonderful. I had dish envy! I still give them 5 stars.

A song of praise is in order. The veggie scramble is goat-cheesy goodness, comfort food that is also virtuous. Breakfast sammy (even the save-the-pigs version) is marvelous. I must recant my previous review of only three stars. If I could give them 4.5 stars, I would. Rarely do I come back to rewrite a review but these guys have stepped up their game and consistency is a strong suit now. They've made it through their first year+, the menu is dialed in and I now know that every time I come here, I won't be disappointed. A few notable things for anyone who reads this review: tap list is always legit, if zig is working, sit at the bar and enjoy his company, order the lamb burger, and take home a jar of bacon jam. Even if you don't do exactly that, you'll still have a good time. It's nice to know that the local spot within walking distance is awesome and comfy-especially since north tabor can be a bit of a desert in terms of cool spots to frequent. Bravo, tabor tavern! Way to hold it down!

100th Review!! I've been to Tabor tavern for dinner and brunch several times. I have not been disappointed at all. The food here is very good. The tabor burger and the lamb burger are no-brainers! They both are awesome. The Mac & cheese here is special. Add a little hot sauce and your knees will shake in a very good way. It is a great choice if you are craving good comfort food. Brunch here is hearty and very good if you are hung over. They do some unique takes on classic brunch dishes. It is awesome cause it will stick to your ribs and you won't need to eat again until dinner. They have a full bar and a very nice rotating beer menu. They have lots of local brews and ciders. Bloody Mary's for brunch are awesome and all the pours on mixed drinks are healthy. Service here is very good and the staff is knowledgable about the menu's. The food menu has it all, comfort food, great appetizers for sharing, healthy alternatives, and the desserts are good too. Anybody could have a great time here.

Came here on a Sat afternoon and it was buzzing but not too crazy. The food here is PHENOMENAL. Staff is friendly, service is quick, and prices are pretty damn good. The Tabor Burger with the bacon jam is SOOO delish!!

Brunch would be better with biscuits back on the menu. They used to have really great biscuits during brunch then stopped it over a year ago. The Rev is just not the same with a roll and otherwise it's just a basic brunch menu to me. I don't go anymore. Let me know when biscuits are back and I'll be back. Not sure why this whole neighborhood is a biscuit desert. 3-stars for Brunch. Dinner is off the charts delicious. The chef's really know how to put bright flavors on a plate which translates into an amazing dining experience in a casual atmosphere. 5-stars for dinner.

This place is great. Solid food and service. I've been here a bunch of times and have liked everything. Wish it opened earlier on the weekend.

Service was outstanding & the cocktails were tasty. Will definitely be frequenting here.

We went here by recommendation last week, I'm so glad we did! We were out to celebrate his birthday and decided to "go big" on food. We ordered the pretzels and deviled eggs to start. The pretzels were good, he loved the mustard - there are a lot of tasty pretzels in this town and theirs were midway down the list. Now to the deviled eggs. Holy goodness, I'm pretty sure they were the best deviled eggs I've literally ever had! get them!! For dinner he had the classic burger. They forgot his cheese but took it back and remade (from scratch) his burger so it wouldn't end up over done. He loved it, and he knows his burgers. I ordered the PDX veggie que sandwich. This may be the best sandwich I've ever had! Blackened tofu, cabbage coleslaw, and spicy pepper jelly - sooooooooo tasty! Service was fantastic - our glasses were never empty and they were quite pleasant. Looking forward to going back!

Went for dinner recently - love the atmosphere, and the waitstaff were all really friendly. Great beer selection. Also: FRIED CHEESE CURDS. 'Nuff said about that. The fish & chips were a little sweet for my taste (maybe there's honey in the batter, not sure?), as well as being gigantic - but our meal was a good one overall. Think stepped-up bar food. The pricing might be a little high for what they're dishing out, but I would still return.

1st time here and it was good: Really good burgers, fries, wine and beer. The menu was much more varied but we just wanted the basics today, and they were done well. We will come back for sure.

Very underrated pub in Tabor area. Everything I have ever ordered is excellent, some of the best brunch drinks out there. Dinner is also superb, and the best part, there is almost never a wait! Please stay the hidden gem that you are Tabor Tavern!!

I've been to Tabor Tavern several times since it opened and I always enjoy my food, drink and company immensely. The food is a little pricey for tavern food, but is high quality and just excellent, so it's well worth the price. My favorite items on the menu include the Tabor burger, kale caesar salad, and koftkas. Yum!

i find that that some of the menu selections are great, some are really off the mark. The beer and wine menu, as well as the service, is much more consistent-usually great, but not necessarily unusally so, for a PDX place. The room acoustics are quite noisy- made the mistake of trying to have a business lunch here, but we couldn't hear each other so we had to get back to the offuce to finish.

Asked for extra aioli sauce for my very large portion of fish... In fact I asked for two. How does such a large portion get one small teeny tiny cup of sauce? Waitress did not pre-inform me they were extra 50 cents. She shoulda just let me know....

You thirsty? Tabor T serves lots of beer & cocktails. You hungry? Tabor T will feed ya. You have kids? Tabor T don't mind. Well, until 8pm then they gotta go. Remember the time you ordered fish & chips, at the place well-known for their fish & chips, but ended up getting fish the size of a McDonald's chicken nugget & one of them was shaped like George Washington's head & instead of taking a photo & calling all the news stations you could think of, so you could get your 15 seconds of fame, you decided to eat all the mini fish along with its chips & later that evening you succumbed to food poisoning? Tabor T wasn't that place nor will it ever be. The beer-battered fish & chips here are an incredible site to see. My photo doesn't give it justice. The haddock went from my elbow to my fingertips. Yes, I sized it up with my arm because it was ridiculously the largest plate of fish & chips I had ever been served. Not only was this an incredible site but it had incredible taste, texture & aroma. I prefer tarter sauce over their aioli dipping sauce but eh, no need to dock a star for that. The fries were, ugh, so good but get them out from underneath the haddock. They'll soak up the fish batter juices & end up being a soggy mess if you don't. The mac & cheese on the other hand wasn't as great as the fish & chips. An extra side with the entree may have helped make the dinner worth $13. Skyway Bar & Grill in Zigzag has by far the best mac & cheese followed by Leroy's Familiar Vittles & Mac! Mac & Cheesery! If you enjoy heavy, thick amounts of melted Gouda smothered in noodles then this may be more fitting for you. The kale, grilled corn & crumbled pretzel topping was a pleasant addition though. Appetizers range from $4-$9 with choices of fried chickpeas to white bean & rosemary dip to cured trout. Pub fare such as sandwiches & burgers range from $8-$12 & the main dishes are $13 & $14. There are gluten-free options, too. New Deal Distillery & Makers Mark make up most of the cocktails for $8 & the beer is at $4.50 a pint. There's plenty of street parking & a private lot. If seating inside is full or it's too loud for your liking then grab a seat in their outside seating area. Happy Hour is from 4-6pm Mon-Fri. Eat, drink & be merry. Tabor T will thank you.

We love going to the Tavern. It's close to our house, the place is very comfortable and the service and food is great. They also change up the menu often with interesting twists on American comfort food. I recommend the burger and fried chicken sandwich. The bacon jam is also a must on any sandwich as well. They also have great happy hour. The only suggestion is to get a little bit more daring with the beer list. More high gravity beers on tap like a DIPA, maybe a belgian strong ale or an Imperial stout. Some of the choices are just a bit too tame...especially for Portland but that will not stop us from coming back. The place is solid.

Their pear cider in a bottle is inferior. Ordered the bang mi sandwich and it needs more meat. The flavor is delicious. It comes with a house salad perfectly fresh and has home made dressing. Kiel ordered the Tabor burger and it needs no improvement. the pear marionberry crumble is just the right about of sweetness and satisfying. It could be bigger but I'm glad it's not.

I drive by this place every day to and from work and I've been wanting to go ever since they opened! Whenever it's sunny, the outdoor seating is full so it looks like a good fun place to meet up with friends. It was a gloomy day when I went so no one was outside, actually on the inside it seemed kinda slow but I didn't mind. The service was decent and we didn't have to wait too long for our food. They have a pretty good looking happy hour menu, so my husband decided to check it out since it would be a good way to sample their menu. We had the fried pickle spears, tabor burger, dirty fries, and the mac and cheese. Fried pickle spears were okay, came out slightly over fried, batter not very flavorful. The horseradish crème fraiche that it came with was different, slightly refreshing to see a different sauce served with this dish. Probably won't order this dish again. Tabor burger came with a side of fries. It was a simple burger on a bun with some aioli. The burger was cooked to medium, and SO JUICY! Maybe a tad salty for me but I still enjoyed it very much and will order this again! Dirty fries came in a bowl topped with parmesan cheese, herbs and red bell peppers. It was flavorful but I wish the fries were a little bit more crispy. I would order this again to share if I was dining with more than one other person. Mac and cheese was really good! Topped with pretzel bits and made with gouda, just cheesy goodness. It almost tasted like it had pieces of bacon in it which made me like it even more, but I think it was just the gouda. I would be ordering this again! Overall, I liked my experience and I would return for the burger and mac and cheese.

I had the Tabor Burger and it was very good. Husband had Shepards Pie and he ate almost all of it, it was very large and lunchtime so it must have been REALLY good. Beer was good service could have been a touch better but alright. Will most likely return.

A great new spot in the Mt Tabor neighborhood. They've got a decent tap selection and a casual, friendly atmosphere. Opening night was packed and super-noisy making the service a bit slow, but I expect they'll work it out. The chickpea appetizer was yummy. Visit #2 was less impressive- the food menu is mostly average, including lukewarm fries cooked to rigor mortis. The beer selection is fine, but don't get your hopes up on the food.

This place has a really nice, classy feel and the food and drink is good quality. The staff was attentive. We had the Tabor burger and the only thing I can fault is that they serve those limp 'fresh cut' style fries which don't appeal to me. All in all a nice little place for a beer and a bite.

Food WAY TOO SALTY!!! Bread was inedible, had to send it back after we each had one bite. Mussels were marginally too salty. The lamb burger had been coated with salt. We ate it, but now feel sick. We love supporting our local food places, but they can't serve salty food. Service good, friendly, prompt, and attentive. Atmosphere fine. Just spare us the salt shaker. We can add our own!

I love the Tabor Tavern. The food is amazing and I love that there is always something new, do not pass up the specials, they never disappoint! The Brussels sprouts and the Tabor burger are my favorites but the soups, desserts and tarts are always so delicious. The chef here knows exactly what he's doing and the atmosphere and staff are fun and thoughtful. I want people to know how great it is but I kind of also selfishly want to keep this a secret just for my myself and my neighbors!

We went here for the first time the other night, just my husband and me for a sort-of date night. Our neighbors had good things to say about Tabor Tavern. I'd say it was OK, or pretty good. I don't know how I feel about TVs with sports on. Is it a sports bar or dinner spot or what? Our server was cheery and nice, but it looks like they're told not to write down the orders. I ordered the arugula salad but without the beets; my husband ordered the fish and chips with extra sauce. Of course, I got lots of beets that I had to pick out under very low lights, and my husband didn't get his extra sauce. And they were out of a special drink, the sangria. I should have told them how to make a sangria, not that hard. My salad was good aside from the beets, and my husband's fish and chips were good except for this wierd sweet sauce that covers it all. The fries also get soaked in it. He was looking for basic fish and chips, and the sauce pretty much spoiled it. There was nothing in the menu about that, so it came as a unpleasant surprise. I hope the owners/chef rethink that dish. It appears that others like it, so just having the description spelled out on the menu would be helpful. I know we should try it again, but it's discouraging when you don't go out real often.

I love this new addition to the neighborhood. The Tabor has amazing food and great beer. I had their smoked trout app and it blew my mind. Highly recommend it. Also the Burger kicks ass. It has bacon jam on it that make it taste amazing. Special Kudos for the guys who own it for bringing such a cool and flavorful place to the neighborhood

So happy to see TT come to our neighborhood! Been twice. Lamb burger was juicy and delicious - fries sooo good! 1/2 # burger also juicy and full of flavor. Fish and chips generous serving, cooked perfectly and will order again! Great selection of brews. Loved the space - and yes, it's crowded and loud - but it's a tavern and people are having a great time. Love the " no kids after 8 " policy. If I wanted to have dinner with someone else's screaming kids I know several pubs around here we could hang out at. TT will definitely be on our rotation a lot. And the staff is friendly and made sure we were comfortable and served well. Thanks for coming to our neighborhood, TT!

Came in for a late lunch with friends, on a Sunday afternoon. We had just missed the Brunch hours, but settled into a booth in the dark corner against the wall near the beer/wine specials list for some lunch. We started with fried chickpeas and "devils on horseback". The dipping sauce for the "devils" is super sweet but compliments them lovely. We all ordered cocktails, though frankly I think I may have ordered the best one: the Ray Ray, which comes with a perfectly shaped ball of ice, curried ice! It was delicious. My friends ordered the Dirty Betty (beet juice and pepper vodka martini) and the Anjou Collins. The DB was too spicy for me, and the AC was too sweet. The table also ordered lunch: fish and chips, shepherds pie and and the tabor burger. Everything was delicious. The haddock comes with a vinegar glaze that really seals the deal, the tabor burger's clincher is a bacon jam and the shepherds pie is a bowl of lamb-potato-cheese goodness. Based on this selection, you are in good hands.

After reading a good mention of Tabor Tavern's burger in a Portland Monthly article, we thought we'd give it a try. We went tonight for Happy Hour with our 7YO kid. The atmosphere is nice enough, but overall, seems caught between cool hipster tavern (like Woodsman or Grain & Gristle) and bland banality (boring furniture, TVs with the football game). Sadly, the food was about the same. I think it wanted to be better, but just couldn't make it. We had corn fritters, fish & chips, shepherd's pie, house salads, and the kid's Mac & cheese. They were all just okay; nothing really sang. If Tabor Tavern were somebody you met at a party, you'd have a nice enough chat, but you wouldn't remember them the next day.

Greasy ordinary food with a decent beer selection. My fish and chips were soggy and uninspired-The Brussels sprouts were yummy, though the bacon was heavy handed--and the macaroni and cheese was meh....

Absolutely love it here! Delicious food, great vibe and wonderful service. Exactly what this neighborhood needed. I've been dozens of times and never been disappointed. The owners, Kristen and Zig, are delightful. They know their way around the service industry and have created a wonderful atmosphere. Perfect for dinner or apps and wine with friends - you'll never feel rushed either way. Go now - it'll surely be a favorite of yours too.
