I wouldn't usually blog about a Subway...after all, isn't a Subway, a Subway...as is all Subways? You'd think so, until you visited this Subway. Can you say "efficient"? Hello! Four guys busted their tails behind the counter, running customers through their orders with streamlined perfection. Kind, polite and getting the orders right! I forgot to add patient as hell!! Holy moly, my kids were taking forever, there is a line behind us and the guy at the register did not rush us, but instead kindly helped my kids make their selection in chips and sides for their meals. So nice! Then, the same guy actually helped a disabled women carry her food to her table. Seriously! Talk about customer service! When the guys heard that the table we were about to sit at was a little dirty, they insisted on wiping it down for us, instead of letting me just brush it off with a napkin. Then, as we ate, I watched them meticulously scrub down the outdoor tables, windows and ledges. Did I mention this is a SUBWAY! Someone knows how to run a business! You all rock!! Wish you worked closer to my home!

I've been going to this Subway for years and have found the staff friendly and their customer service excellent, and the sandwiches are always tasty. However, tonight they stepped it up to a new level and why they deserve the full five stars. I walked out of the shop without my sandwich. As I ambled along toward home, I heard someone come up behind me and say, "I hope you have a nice evening." As I turned, it was the gentleman who had made my sandwich, and once he saw I had left without it, he ran two city blocks to bring the sandwich to me. I was truly impressed and touched. I will not only continue to patronize the shop, but also recommend it to friends.

It's Subway, you know what you're getting. Staff is friendly, the place is clean. Good sized parking lot if you drive.

It's 3am. I'm on my way to work and think I'll stop here for breakfast. Well that was a bad decision. What a fucking shit show. Was every foul mouthed asshole of a taxi driver here? There were about 7 men. All with the loudest and filthiest mouths you can imagine. Now, I don't always talk like a charm school graduate and have been known to utter my fair share of curse words but this was offensive even to me. We won't delve into why they were so disgusting. The dude working at the counter should have taken control of the store but didn't. Plus he was super slow due to his stupid banter with the assholes. I left and went to the Tanasbourne location where I didn't feel uncomfortable, unwelcome and disgusted. I used come to this Burnside location quite often but this store is dead to me. 2015 - Review # 30

Some people like to hate on Subway. I'm not sure what gets their goat, is it the fresh bread? Maybe they think baking should be some secret alchemy restricted to carefully vetted initiates. Maybe it's the veggies? Yes it would be nice if every store had a garden on the roof, but we have to recognize the impracticality. Some stores don't even have roofs. But this stuff is good. I've seen way more slimy lettuce in my fridge than in Subway (infinitely more, because I've never seen slimy lettuce in a Subway. Wait, once, but they instantly threw the rest of the tub away and got more). Oh, the service? The quick, friendly, I'd-never-be-this-good-on-minimum-wage service? I'm sure somewhere there's a jerky or incompetent Subway counterperson but I've yet to see one, even in the filthy hinterlands of Lents/FoPo. I know, it's Subway's encouragement of entrepreneurship via franchising in the face of corporate monstrosities, or maybe their commitment to fitness and nutrition instead of burgers that are the RDA for calories, plus fries. Is it Jared? What kind of punk hates on Jared? Y'know, I think they're just snobs who should get over themselves. Upper West Burnside can be sketchy, I've certainly seen some unwholesomeness at the Freddy's and Taco Bell just down the street. But this Subway is consistently clean, speedy and well staffed, and they make a pretty damn good sammich with no attitude for less than a steak at Ringside (I'm looking at you, Kenny & Zukes!). Admittedly the oven baked chicken breast patty is slightly unnerving. But it's also only 340 calories (not including cheese or condiments). No legislative action required for that disclosure.

I don't know what the other reviewers are talking about - for a Subway, this is a pretty decent location. The staff was super friendly and greeted me (and everyone that followed me) as I arrived. Before adding veggies to my sandwich, the guy making it realized that the bread was rather hard and tossed it in the trash in exchanged for new bread. I've never seen that before - and I've had my fair share of bad sandwich bread. The prices here for the meal deal are better than at other Subways I've been to. I will say that the drink area was kind of sticky and messy and really needed to be cleaned up. When I arrived no one was inside the place so it seemed like they could have been working on that then...I can understand why they didn't later on because a steady stream of people continued through the door while I ate my sandwich. But that seriously needed to be cleaned up!

    5. 5 dollar. 5 dollar footlong. Each time I sing this song, the more I realize how you deceived me. I loved you in college...back when I would pay $2.99 for a gallon of Papov at Ralph's, or $1.00 for 10 packages of Ramen. Before I knew what "get what you pay for" really meant. And now...as your catchy little jingle runs through my head...I realize that you can easily make my footlong sandwich for $5. In fact, you can probably make my footlong for a fraction of that. And that is nasty. But I won't lie. I indulge...but only with a vat of Boones farm.
