I used to love the spicy sausage pasta they had here until I turned vegetarian.

My partner and I spent New Year's in PDX and went to Serrato upon the recommendation of our innkeeper. With her help, we chose it based on the location, menu and price range. I would say that the experience was a solid 3.5 stars. I would have rounded up to 4 if the service was just a little bit better, but the whole experience was, well, kind of average. First the positives. The ambiance at this place is amazing. So romantic and comfortable. When you walk in the kitchen is right there and open, pizza hearth blazing. For a cold December night you cannot beat this coziness. We also ate on the upper floor, overlooking the main bar, and comfortably settled into gorgeous leather chairs that made me want to linger all night long. Lastly, the music was just perfect. I couldn't tell you who was on the playlist, but it was wonderful for the setting and just the right volume. Now, the negatives. Our server was good, but not very friendly or attentive. Our appetizer and salads came back to back right away and on top of each other. At a small table, I just find this annoying. Plates should be cleared before the next course is announced. Also, our water glasses were not refilled until about half way through the meal. I would understand if the place were full, but since we didn't sit until almost 9pm, this was also just annoying. After the mad rush of our first two courses we then waited almost 45 minutes for our main dishes to arrive. This was actually ok with us, given that we were slightly anxious about being rushed. My partner had the chicken and I had the halibut. Unfortunately, both were a a tad well-done and on the dry side. The fish itself was a nice cut and size but it was really overwhelmed by the corn chowder beneath it, which was over the top buttery and a strange chunky consistency that didn't blend well with how supple halibut usually is. Because it was well done, the two main ingredients of this dish really clashed for me. After three courses we did not partake in dessert, but the options looked very good. The decaf coffee we finished with was piping hot and fresh, a nice change from what we are used to. So, in general, I wish I could give this a 4 star but will have to stick with the 3 star "A-OK" this time.

No. Just no. This was not the dining experience I had hoped for after seeing such great reviews. Unfortunately I haven't been able to make it in for what sounds like great happy hour deals-but the dinner has got to be better, right? Sadly, it was not. The main problem I had with the food is how un-memorable it was. Nothing wonderful, nothing terrible, everything was simply uninspired. Beet salad was blah. Wild boar tagliatelle was boaring. As a French onion soup connoisseur I found sadly that Serrato's soup was so salty it just plain sucked. It was way too heavy on the beef broth flavor, and I had to dig a bay leaf out of my mouth before accidentally swallowing and/or choking on it. The service was efficient and decently friendly, but that ain't enough to warrant a return visit anytime soon.

Can I just say how much I LOVE Portland's snacky happy hours? I LOVE EM. Even better than sugary cocktails is a great menu at half the price. And the portions aren't puny either. Serrato's hh is a great place to preview a fancy restaurant's menu without paying a fortune.

Nice atmosphere, delicious food, good service. Sea scallops were awesome, rigatoni was really good, and mushroom risotto was good as well. Antipasti appetizer was alright but a little steep.

I came here for dinner expecting good things in accordance with the good reviews, and although parts of our meal were fine, nothing blew me away and everything was bland overall. What really got me though was that my ravioli was in the most watery sauce imaginable. It was like eating pasta out of a cup of water. Mek! On top of which it was expensive. Such a hard meal to pay for...

Portions are not large on happy hour, but omg they are so worth it. $4 to $6, and the burger is amazing.

Very confusing entrances made more confusing by deer in headlights help from the waitstaff upon entering. The happy hour menu is good and a good value. Way too much dressing on the spring salad but the pizza was delicious. Would rate the place higher if it were not for the "who cares?" attitude from the waiter. 2/10

Great happy hour, $5 drinks and select glasses of wine. The food selection for happy hour was really good too. I got the oysters and they were delicious.

Have only been to happy hour here, and love it! Decent wine and a great burger! But I finally stepped away from teh beef this week and had some other terrific appetizers. Calamari was light, good and decently sized. The pasta was fabulous, lot of flavor and not too much sauce, again a well sized portion. and the lamb meatballs completed the trifecta, might have liked a few more though! :) VEry good, highly recommend. Great atmosphere and service too.

You know, this place is great. We came to PDX back in October for our anniversary and had dinner here. It was one of our better meals then, and when we came back on this trip this past week, it still lived up to that. We had fried calamari and the smoked meat/cheese plate for our appetizers. The calamari was good, nothing too fancy, but the meat/cheese plate was SO good. I had been having a craving for weeks, and I finally got to have it. Thinly sliced salamis and prosciutto, paired with toasted almonds and warm olives. They had four different french cheeses, which we were told change daily. It was absolutely perfect. For dinner, I had the Parmesan crusted chicken, with mashed potatoes and brocollini. It also had an amazing jus drizzled around the plate. Moist, delicious, and my only complaint is that I wish there was more broccolini! My husband had the rigatoni with sausage, which was also very good. Tomato sauce with spicy italian sausage with sauteed onions and peppers. Classic Italian comfort food. My father in law had the fried empanadas, which he really enjoyed. The dressing on the frisee was a little salty, but coming from a guy who doesn't use salt on much, it was probably okay for most people! The server recommended a really great Pinot Noir to enjoy. They staff really knows their stuff! Polite and willing to help pick out the perfect accompaniment with your meal. Dessert was a creme brulee (classic) and a lemon cake with a vanilla cookie and fruit compote. The menu read blueberry, but it tasted more like blackberry to us. Delicious either way. Very moist cake.

Solid. Not going to change your life, but is a good italian option. Good menu options, some interesting dishes. Good wine list too. Huge old-growth ceiling beams in the dining room are a great conversation topic.

When I worked in NW, I ate here a few times for lunch. While this is a very nice restaurant as far as ambience goes, the food has always been just OK. I ordered a pasta dish each time, and felt my meal was overpriced for the quality of the food. Not enough flavor! Service was attentive and good, however - even for the busy weekday lunch hour. Perhaps I might go back again and try something besides pasta next time. I have also heard good things about the happy hour here.

SO dissapointed with the service that it basically ruined our celebration. Food was 2 dishes good and 2 just OK. But looking all over for water and not even being given a chance to order dessert at 9:00 on a Friday night--well, so sad, as this was our #1 place to go until last night.

Serratto is a gorgeous, sexy, swanky Italian restaurant that is perfect for large groups as well as an intimate dinner date. The meals are hearty, the wine list is luscious, and the ambiance is romantic and elegant. If you're up for something a bit more casual, Serratto's lounge is lively and spacious and is a great place to meet up with friends for an after-work drink or light bite before heading out for the evening.

I live in New York, a city known for its Italian food, so when I say that Serratto is fantastic, I know what I'm talking about! Rather than predictable standbys, Serratto's menu manages to be unique and creative without straying into strange experimentalism. The service is excellent-- friendly, attentive, and well-informed about the menu, without being overbearing. The trout that I ordered was fresh, flavorful, and very memorable, in the best way possible-- I highly recommend it. And be sure to try some of the homemade ice cream or sorbet for dessert!

Serratto is a great restaurant - and a fun place to hang out. An Italian focused menu and a very friendly and competent staff add to what is simply a great space. The vibe and energy are half of what makes a visit here enjoyable. On top of that Serratto has some amazing food at great prices. The staff in the kitchen clearly love food and work hard to reach perfection. I have tried a lot of items on the menu and never been let down. All of the pasta at Serratto is house made and there is a large open oven in front of the bar that cranks out great pizzas. The kitchen takes full advantage of local producers and varies the menu accordingly. The wine is Italian-centric and also includes some local, French, CA and WA gems. There are some real whoppers in there. Ask the staff for help choosing a wine - they are all passionate and knowledgeable.

Went here for dinner based on the strength of reviews of other Yelpers, and was pretty let down. The staff was quite snooty, and unjustifiably so, since the food was incredibly medicore. The duck confit risotto with snow peas and fennel sounds delicious (right?), but the confit, which I had imagined served crispy-tender on top of the risotto, was mixed in with the rest, so the flavor of the duck was nearly lost, and the crispy-tender texture that confit can have when it's best was totally absent. The girlfriend's goat cheese and squash ravioli were over-sweet, without a hint of the chevre. All in all, a thorough mediocre dining experience made worse by high prices and a snooty staff.

Went here with my husband and two kids (ages 4 and 8) during a recent trip to Portland. We all loved this place! They have a kids menu which kept the kids happy and a great cocktail menu which kept the grown ups happy. The burger was amazing (loved the barbeque sauce), the risotto was delicious and creamy and garlicky, and my Sazerac was perfect. We are always on the lookout for a place that is kid friendly but also serves good food and drinks for the adults. This is that kind of place. We'll definitely be back during our next trip to Portland.

My boyfriend and I have this monthly anniversary romantic dinner thing we do. So Serrato was our January choice. It was definitely romantic and quite. Its never too busy! We shared an appetizier (chips with mackerel dip and avocado mayonnaise), a cup of red wine, an entree (vegetarian risotto), and a dessert (raspberry creme brulee). Not too expensive, but can be spendy. The appetizier came in a bigger portion than we expected. The entree is a bit smaller, but risotto fills you up fast. And the dessert was just delightful. Not too shabby! Best of all, no wait!

Its called Italian but doesn't seem very Italian or at least what we are trained to call Italian. Checked in with the hostess and we got a free glass of sparkling wine while waiting. The food was really good. A little weird but good. The portions looked really small but we were full afterwards. So that worked out. Not sure if the salad was really worth $8. Overall, a fun place.

So disappointed. The snooty hostess told us that there weren't any tables available but there were several. We ended up sitting at the bar and heard two groups who came in after us with no reservations got tables. I couldn't believe it.

After being denied Happy Hour seating at another eatery due to having a minor (2 year old) we went to a traditionally good standby in Serratto. Having been here a numerous occasions I knew that we were in for some good food. Unfortunately, we hit one of those nights that occasionally occurs when everything seems sub-par. The Happy Hour menu is enticing with brilliantly described items that don't necessarily equate to what we were served. Prices are above average for Happy Hour. We ordered 6 dishes that were below average. The 2 year olds' Mac & Cheese was hot, creamy, but devoid of any flavor. The 'adult' items were Calamari (traditional presentation); Sautéed Shrimp (tender, average size, and spicy); Mussels (served in Italian Wedding soup?); Simple dinner salad (lightly garnished with candied walnuts); and a cheeseburger (ordered medium - came out rare). Aside from the M&C, all items were either luke warm or cold when served. Wine was really expensive for HH - $8 for 3 ozs of house Gris. I certainly would go back again to see if things were just an anomaly - but with so many other options in the hood in may be awhile.

The menu changes frequently which always keeps you on your toes. The quality of food and setting (mood/feel and utensil quality) match the pricing--reasonably priced. The service is average on the knowledge part pertaining to the dishes but good on friendliness. Some dishes have small portions so read descriptions thoroughly. Very yummy!!

I took two Bay area visitors (who know good food) to Serrato last weekend. The atmosphere is great -- would work for a date night or a casual dinner out with friends. We had a reservation and were seated promptly, even though we were a few minutes late. We were very impressed by the server's knowledge of the wine list. We asked for a recommendation among the Montepulciano d'Abruzzo selections and the waiter gave us a lot of information about one particular vineyard and its winemaking processes. We appreciated that the wine he suggested was the least expensive for that varietal -- it showed that he wasn't simply trying to push the most expensive bottle on us. And the wine turned out to be a great pairing with our food. The food was very good. One member of our party had the spinach salad, which was presented very nicely but was a bit overpowered by the bacon vinaigrette. For main courses, we had the scallops (excellent!), grilled shrimp skewers on a very tasty bed of fried capers, and rigatoni. All of the entrees were well-flavored and served in large portions (much to the delight of one of my hungry friends). We opted to head over to Jo Bar for dessert, but the menu at Serrato looked quite yummy! I'd definitely recommend this restaurant to friends and would happily return for another quality meal.

Serrato is consistently good. Great ambiance, good food and all for a reasonable price. Just under my favorite restaurants list. I would recommend it to anyone. It's one of the best in town. Service is exceptional.

Delicious food, well-chosen wine list (BYO is okay too), and a truly beautiful space. Lunch prices are more than reasonable, and while dinner isn't cheap, it's not over the top expensive either, and it's totally worth it. Ask the servers if you can't decide what to have. They're not shy with their food and drink favorites, and they're usually right on.

After the spread in Portland Monthly about pizza places, we decided to go back to Serrato. For some reason this place always looks hipper from the outside, but then we go in and feel surrounded by stuffy 50 somethings dressed like Tom Hanks in Bossom Buddies and their business guests. Anyway, back to the pizza. I had the Pizza Bianco with sausage/fennel/cheese and my husband had the Pizza margherita (standard basil, mozzarella, tomato pizza). We also had "simple salads". Well, the waiter brought the wrong wine, and then took it away and agreed he had tried the wine before he threw it out and thought it was awful too. So the pizza was pretty good, awesome crust which was thin and dry, with good ingredients. The salad was just greens, a few walnuts that managed to find their way to the bottom of the plate and your standard vinaigrette. We shared Bread Pudding for desert---topped with apples and cinnamon but sadly sitting in a deep bath of irish cream. Stick with the pizza and get dessert & wine elsewhere. Summary: pizza FANTASTIC, wine EXPENSIVE bad wine, dessert AVERAGE

This restaurant is beautifully decorated. I actually took more pictures of the decor than I did of the food, which says something. I didn't like the table bread. It was too crunchy and not doughy enough. * Mediterranean Blue Mussels (chorizo, red peppers, onions, white wine-garlic broth) - good, but not spectacular * Cavatelli (Dungeness crab, brussel sprouts, fennel, shallots, lemon zest, Pernod crea) was actually BAD. There was no actual crab and not even the slightest hint of crab flavor, which makes me think it was missing because Dungeoness crabs are in season right now and so deliciously sweet ... when they are actually present. The only positive thing about the pasta was that the fennel provided texture. * Pizza Margherita (fresh mozzarella, tomato, garlic, basil) was eh. It was about as tasty as the Trader's Joe's frozen one, which isn't bad, but it was 4xs more expensive and smaller. * Bay Leaf Creme Brulee had a really interesting flavor, but the execution completely failed. The brulee wasn't hard enough and the temperature of the custard varied wildly - refrigerator cold in some parts and warm in others. We had an early dinner because we had to go to the airport and this was a special, so maybe they hadn't quite worked it out yet, but a good chef at a fancy restaurant should know when to pull the plug.

I just got back from a long weekend getaway in Portland. Sorry to say, since Yelpers recommend this restaurant, that dinner here was the worst part of our Portland trip. We rushed out of Bar Mingo, where we were having fun, so that we would be on-time for our reservation. Luckily, they are right next door to each other. Upon arriving at Serratto, I was told that our table would be ready in a few minutes. It took almost 45 minutes to be seated. Yup, we stood, on the entry stairs, for 40 minutes! The only positive thing I can say is that they gave us champagne (Korbel, I think) while we waited. Of course, they did that for everyone, including the walk-ins. Anyway, we were finally seated and ordered quickly. My veggie entree (polenta with roasted vegetables) was ok and the size was fine. Others were not as happy -- they felt that the portions were small, especially considering the high price, and the food was just so-so. Part of that feedback might have been grumpiness from standing so long, but I'm sure there was some truth in it too. Although we told the waitress about the wait, she made no effort to adjust the bill or offer a free drink. I know this goes against the advice from the locals and Yelpers, but I have to say -- do not go to this restaurant!

Friend and I stopped by for happy hour, hearing how lovely the pomme frites were. Were seated at a table with the stipulation, "this table has a reservation in an hour." It took the disintretested wait staff fifteen minutes to take our order, which was surprising, considering the time constraint. Margaritas came lacking any resemblance to tequila and we honestly wondered if the bar tender had forgotten to tip the bottle. When debating between the lamb and calamari, asked the wait staff - go for the calamari, it is awesome. The barely beige limp calamari that arrived were not awesome. Shared a burger, which was fine, but a little overpowered by bbq sauce. The big disappointment was the pommes frites which were under cooked and cold. No wonderful here. My twelve year old son knows to serve the frites piping hot. Had to hurry and eat the food because of the impending reservation and glares from the staff. Could not eat the calamari which remained sad, rubbery and under fried on the plate. Never asked if we enjoyed our food. Needless to say, we won't be back.

Let me first start by saying that the food at Serrato is amazingly delicious. No complaints about the food, extremely yummy. That being said, I have a few complaints. First, it took an extraordinarily long time for our food to come out of the kitchen. We had 3 courses, and we were at the restaurant for 2 hours. This is not an exaggeration. 2 hours. Second, the portions were very small. My husband and I ate practically an entire loaf of bread trying to feel satisfied. Now, one could argue that the food took so long to come out that we were just getting hungry all over again between each course. That is also a distinct possibility. Be that as it may, for $100, one should not have to fill up on bread just to feel satisfied. So, does the deliciousness make up for the fact that it took us 2 hours to be served tiny food? I'm not sure yet....

This review really only applies to the happy hour menu, but is fabulous: one of my favorites so far in Portland! Happy hour in Portland is a dream come true for a broke foodie like me, and Serratto serves up about 15 delicious sounding options in a nice setting. It is definitely more on the upscale side of happy hour, so being able to sample their normal menu items for $4-$6 is a treat! I don't think they shrink portions for the happy hour menu either, so thats always nice. I was having trouble deciding because everything on the menu looked great, so I chose the burger on the waitress' recommendation. It was good but I wish I had chosen something more unique or at least Italian style so I will be back soon. The burger was very good with white cheddar, yummy thick cut bacon, bbq sauce, and fried onions. The bun was a tiny bit dry though. Friends got ribs bbq ribs which were good, (although this portion was a little small) and cheese pizza which had a thin and tasty crust. I would have added some toppings, the cheese pizza alone was a little lacking in flavor for my taste. We also got the pommes frites for the table, which came with 3 different dips and were thin and crispy. There are tons more things on the menu that I want to try: french onion soup, baked rigatoni, and steamed clams come to mind. They also have daily changing specials on red wine ($4) white wine ($3) and cocktails ($5), BUT: you don't HAVE to get a drink in order to get the happy hour prices. For those days when you are feeling especially broke and would like to drink away your money woes but cant afford it, a little faux fine dining on the cheap is a nice pick-me-up! Also nice because since it is more of a restaurant than bar atmosphere, minors are allowed to do happy hour if this is ever an issue. 4 stars for very friendly and attentive service (no signs of irritation when we all ordered *sigh* water, and they kept it coming!) very good food, nice atmosphere, and variety of options. I only took away a star because like I said I am a foodie, and even though the food was reallly good, especially for the price, it wasn't perfection! I would have given 4 1/2 if possible. Hopefully that is fair, I'm new to this...

Wow, thanks again yelp! This place was one of the best dinners I have ever had. The waiter was friendly and the service was very good but the food... DELICIOUS! For an appetizer we got the margherita pizza which was the best pizza I have ever had hands down. Then we got the ceasar which was alright but I dont really like ceasar anyway, my mom just wanted to split it. Next we got the ravioli with roasted butternut squash, chevre, and sherry cream sauce with delicious toasted hazelnuts on top. It was amazing and the ingredients flowed together beautifully, like good italian food should. For desert we got the bittersweet chocolate cobbler which was to die for! It had a big scoop of vanilla bean gelato on top that evened out the rich chocolate goo underneath. I highly recomend this place but recommend making a reservation!

I liked Serratto. The food was unremarkable but good all the same. Why 3 stars? Read on... I found the service people to be very attentive and kind. However, I was a little miffed that the bread on the table was hard as a rock and I was a little surprised to see that the baked macaroni and cheese actually was made with a rigatoni type pasta. the dish was not great and I probably will not get it again. I don't know what was wrong with it, maybe the combination of cheeses was not to my liking, I cannot put my finger on it. I tried a couple bits of the burger with the bacon and crispy onion slices and bbq sauce and it was good but no better than the one that I had at Red Robin's a week ago. It is hard to mess up a burger with bacon and bbq sauce.......so this compliment doesn't count for much. In any case the dessert which was bread pudding was amazing in both taste and quantity. I thought $8 for bread pudding was excessive but the thing was massive and well worth it. I will probably give them another star the day I see a good Semifreddo or Zabaglione on their dessert menu, because no self respecting Italian joint doesn't have at least one of these. The final price was a bit steep for the quality of meal that we enjoyed. It was good quality and I will likely come back but it was not worth "that much" . I am new in the area and I really hope that this is not the best Italian place that Portland has to offer me because it was just okay, good for a night out but not good enough for anything special. I will give my final judgement after my next experience with them.

I love the atmosphere here, and the staff almost tries too hard to please. However, it has a very slow pace for taking the order, getting the food and refilling drinks, getting dessert. Plan some time and go with someone you need to catch up with. The simple salad is fresh and tasty, although my companion's ceasar looked anemic with almost white/yellow lettuce. I had the cavatelli, the only pasta option with no meat. I was looking for some comfort after a hard day and was generally pleased with the presentation and ingredients. It was a little salty for my taste, but browned butter tends to be somewhat salty I guess. I ate the half portion and it was just right! My companion had the Ahi Tartare for an entree (it is on the appetizer menu), and it was odd. The ingredients were stacked and covered in potato chip art. It was not my favorite when I took a bite. When stealing a kiss hours later, the kiss had a lingering fishy spice, so it is not a good choice on a date. I would go back and try it again, but I am not sure it has enough options for my vegetarian leanings.

My dinner at Serratto last night brought me to tears - and not in a good way. Boyfriend wanted to take me out for a nice dinner for my birthday. I was craving Italian and there aren't a lot of options on a Monday night. Serratto had good reviews and a nice looking menu so we thought we'd give it a shot. We ordered 4 items and split them all. Highlight of the meal was the Ken's bread and olive oil, and things went downhill from there. Calamari - Very standard presentation. No flavor to the breading and slightly over-cooked. Came with an aioli-ish sauce which looked too much like tartar to make me want to try it. Had to request lemon wedges separately, and should have asked for marinara - but after the waiter dropped off the calamari he disappeared for the next 10 minutes. Caesar salad - strangely dry dressing. I can't quite explain it - the salad wasn't over-dressed yet it was kind of glopped on. Again, nothing at all remarkable about the flavor. And it also could have used a lemon wedge. Tagliatelle - we split the half portion which was plenty. The noodles seemed home-made, at least - and the sauce was tasty. However, it was supposed to be garnished with Pecorino Romano but it came topped with what appeared to be shredded mozzarella from a bag? Lamb loin chops - less said about this the better. We waited for 20 minutes between pasta and entree course. When it arrived the lamb was extremely undercooked, fatty, and gristly. I took two bites and spit them both out. By this point we were over the whole scene and asked for our meal to go. We had it boxed up and threw it in the nearest trashcan outside. And of course, to cap off the evening, I woke up at 1 AM with sharp pains in my stomach that left me scrambling in the dark for the nearest bottle of Pepcid. I don't get it - perhaps the chef had an off night? I've heard good things about this restaurant in the past, and the service was not terrible - but the food was way below subpar. Next time we'll just wait for DOC to be open later in the week.

I'm a regular for Happy Hour, I never get tried of this place. Fantastic HH Menu and it's a wonderful date night location as well. The food is always tasty and the service is consistently good. In a neighborhood of dive bars & shotty service, Serratto is in a class of their own.

Good neighborhood restaurant. Nice roomy and airy atmosphere with good service. The food is pretty good and the menu is just about right. I would come back again if I had a specific reason to (like someone else picked the restaurant) but it's not something you crave or write home about. It's a good Italian place but not very good. We had the four different entrees: Halibut - Quite nice and tender which is typically not easy to achieve for restaurant fish. The flavor was average. Pork Belly - Nice presentation and good portions. Scallops - Small portions but pretty tasty Hamburger - Nothing special, average. Dessert: Panna Cotta - Not very good and sour from the fruit topping If you're in the neighborhood, it's a great place to walk right into but I wouldn't go out of my way to go here.

Serratto! My favorite part of Serratto is the décor and ambiance; beautiful!!! As well, the plating of the food is excellent since we do eat partially with our eyes. The food is very good from the house-made sauces, sausage, salami and salads. Standouts my friend said were the house-made sausage and salami. The pizzas are classic Italian with a nice chewy crust (not too chewy) and mouthwatering sauce. They are also larger than other classic Italian pizza places I have seen with 10" to 11" pizzas vs. Serratto's 12" to 13" pizzas. Serratto is also a great place to entertain having two gorgeous private dining rooms that can seat up to 40 people. And, if you need a quick bite that tastes really good early evening go for their happy hour from 4pm-6pm; every day of the week. The happy hour menu has a good selection and the pizza is only $9. Add two salads for $4 each and a delicious dinner for two is just $17.

I ate there for a training session a few months back, and the food, service, wine, ambience were really great. However eating there privately with friends from out of town this past weekend: I selected the house Cab by the glass. I have NEVER had such a splitting headache the next day from a wine as I got from that. It was terrible and I was on the couch the whole day. You know a hangover when you have one, and that was the worst rotgut wine I have EVER had. It tasted ok, a bit sharp and tannic'y, but really if you're going to charge me more than $10 for a glass of wine, please, try not to kill me. The salad was ok, the food looked ok that our friends had. I was surprised to see they downsized the number of sea scallops from the last time I was there. C'mon. $32 , throw some food on the darned plate! Also the chairs where they seated us...most people had big padded comfortable chairs, we had wicker bottom that the bottoms were falling out and were about as uncomfortable a chair as you could find. All in all this visit was a huge disppointment, especially when taking out of town guests there. We decided today we won't be needing to go back. Sorry guys. Maybe your experience will be better, like mine was the first time, but the memory of that headache from the wine...no thanks. There is certainly better around. Portland is getting competitive for fine dining, we don't need to be uncomfortable and sick when it's over.

Used to love this place. Have been going there for years. Went there twice last month and both times it was not spectacular. Even the wine wasn't living up to the past standards. Portions also seemed smaller for some of my favorite standards. Food was OK but not chef alchemy magic I've come to expect and now know some places that are a lot cheaper that are delivering some magic.

Very tasty Italian food that isn't too heavy or rich. Very delicate flavors along with smaller portions. Their happy hour is wonderful and I would suggest getting the shrimp. Service was good and I love the atmosphere with large breezy windows and lots of light.

All I can say is a resounding YES!!!!! to Serrato. The staff was pleasant and offered a drink while waiting for our seats. We had the margarita pizza for an appetizer and it was delicious. The drinks were die for; we then ordered our salads and I had the Kale salad. This was a first for me and I think I have a new type of salad. Our main entrees: The ranch chicken and braised beef cheek was so good and had the best taste. Went down very easily. Def a come back and chill again place.

Me and my beau had dinner here for the 1st time last weekend. LOVE IT. Fantastic service and a real yummy menu. Feels like I'm somewhere in Europe or what I think it would be like if I had been there. The roast chicken was excellent, my boyfriends polenta was great even though it didn't have any meat. We are for sure coming back. IMO a much better dining experience than what we had at that Italian Place on Johnson in the Pearl.

Came here last night with my 92-year-old, self proclaimed burger connoisseur grandmother. She is a feisty little lady who likes her burgers cooked medium. This burger came out perfectly medium, I tried it and it was so delicious. She kept saying how good it was too which really means something because she never says how good anything is. I ordered the salad with beets, pear, and chevre and it was really tasty but the size was REALLY disappointing. There were like 4 lettuce leaves. To add insult, the little old lady had swapped her fries for a side salad and her salad was almost twice the size of mine. I get that mine was supposed to be a fancy little starter, but at least put some lettuce on my plate...just felt skimped on the most important ingredient. Service was nice and prompt which also impressed the tiny boss lady.

I have come to this place once for dinner and three times for happy hour. The dinner was fabulous, and although it has been almost 5 years since I went there for that purpose, I still remember it. The homemade pastas and sauces are delicious. I also love the Ken's Artisan Bread that you can get with your meal. Simply delectable, if you are a bread lover. Unfortunately I do not eat gluten anymore, so I just have to imagine it from now on. The happy hour is excellent, but be warned the plates are quite small. The deviled eggs with smoked trout small plate consists of only one deviled egg (two halves) but is delicious. The arugula is simply garnish, and not really a part of the dish, so I am surprised the menu bothers to even list this detail. ( I kind of expect that if a nice restaurant lists an ingredient, that it is actually more than just a garnish.) The sautéed shrimp with garlic and chilies is absolutely delicious, with a delectable butter garlic sauce that you will want to dip your bread in. My boyfriend had the spaghetti bolognese from the happy hour menu, eight dollars, which was a petite sized bowl with about four ounces of food. Not quite the meal you'd expect; you would need 2-3 of these to make a full meal and at that point you might as well order from the regular menu. The house wine pours for happy hour are rather generous, with a relatively good wine each time I have been there. All in all, I would recommend the happy hour if you aren't very hungry, otherwise I would opt for the dinner menu. If you're just looking for snacks and drinks, go for it!!

This place has great deals on happy hour food and drinks. Came here with my boyfriend when visiting Portland from Seattle and were very happy we found this place. There was tons of seating inside and it had lovely decor. We both started with the red wine on happy hour although I couldn't tell you what it was, other than delicious. We ordered the bread ($1), French onion soup, and a pizza. This was my first time having French onion soup so I didn't really have anything to compare it to. All I was thinking to myself was why had I never tried it before now? It was the perfect amount to share and really flavorful. Finally the pizza was a great sharing size as well and was really good. Can't remember the type of sausage that we ordered on it, but it was mildly spicy and had the perfect amount. Can I just say that as a visitor I really enjoy not having to pay tax when dining out. Our bill came to less than $25 for all of that. The service was on par and everything was amazing. Next time I am in the area I would definitely come back here. P.s--stay in the bathroom long enough and you can learn some Italian!

I ventured to Serratto's yesterday for the first time with a friend to try out the happy hour, which is served daily from 4-6pm. We ordered the stuffed piquillo peppers, deviled eggs, white wine shrimp, the pizza del giorno and the painted hills burger and pommes frites. We were not disappointed by any of our selections. Every menu item we ordered had its own delectability, and the preparation and presentation of the dishes were in sync with the sophisticated vibe you get sitting in the restaurant. The deviled eggs are served with a smoked trout and arugula that pair perfectly well on the palate. The white wine shrimp is served with a generous amount of garlic and basil to awaken your taste buds and enough chile oil to dip both the shrimp and if you choose pommes frites (thin-cut French fries)! The stuffed piquillo peppers have a delicious blend of quinoa, grilled corn and slivered carrots, basking in a small bath of chile oil. Hands down, the painted hills burger was by far the most delectable! We shared one burger, which had a tantalizing blend of crunch and chew, and tied our tongues with juicy goodness! The chefs cooked a tender, medium-rare burger, which was a juicy burger on its own, and complimented the patty with white cheddar cheese, aioli and barbeque sauces, tender bacon and crispy, fried onions, and slightly-toasted brioche bun. This masterpiece of a burger is one of the best burgers my friend and I have ever tried! Compliments to the chef! The pizza del giorno was served last and had a delicious pairing of mouth-watering cheeses and spicy, Italian fennel sausages on thin-crust. The pizza was also a fine balance of texture and taste, and gave our palates a nice, savory finish. "Mmm.." Happy hour pricing was very reasonable for the portions served and for the sensational taste of every food item. And the staff were friendly and inviting. My friend and I left Serratto's satiated, with smiles, and in agreement to come back and try the items we didn't order on the happy hour menu! Highly recommended!

I attended a dinner here and was awestruck at the beauty of the restaurant. It is both cozy and open, with large windows that I'm sure make things very bright during the day, and dim lighting to make the evenings intimate. I had a series of different things off the menu, from sea scallops to the Painted Hills Burger to the Spokane Speedball (espresso+Baileys=yum). My favorite dish of the night was probably the burger, which I realize seems so silly, but it was just so well-balanced and moist and delicious in all the right ways. I also enjoyed their ravioli, Muscovy duck confit and the apple turnover. Their wines are exceptional. My favorite was the 2009 Mandrarossa "Bonera"--for which I would like to just be set up on a constant refill setting. I could foresee this restaurant being the setting of both a gorgeous wedding reception, as well as a quiet night out for a small group. The executive chef Tony Meyers came out and addressed the group, and was sweet, appreciative, and approachable. Overall I would highly suggest this restaurant for a celebratory meal out. I've heard their happy hour is also quite good. I intend to investigate :)

I am going to round this place up to four stars. The food was uneven, but the atmosphere was comfortable and relaxing. I came here for happy hour which ends at 6pm. It was a Friday night and we were lucky to get seating for two, as half the restaurant is reserved for the regular dinner menu. We sat at the wine bar island, which I think is used for wine tastings. A few dozen wine glasses helped form a barrier from the other couple communally seated across from us. One plus of this area is that the servers are always passing by and using the undercarriage of the island to bus their tables, so service is quite attentive. I had the rigatoni, which was served in a nice, tart tomato marinara with spicy sausage. It was a little bit too cheesy, but overall pretty good. I also had the calamari, which had a thin batter that was not particularly crisp. I don't think the calamari was very fresh either because it had that fishy taste. The quinoa-stuffed pepper was rather forgettable. Like every restaurant in Portland, there was a happy hour bacon hamburger & fries, though it had no discernible Italian slant. I ordered a medium cooked burger but it probably was undercooked or it wasn't rested because the blood soaked through the bread. For some reason, it was unappetizing to me. Plus, the meat was missing the classic char of a grilled burger. The bacon and the fried french onions kind of made up for the undercooked meat. I did peak over the wine glass wall and saw that the pizza was decently sized and a lot of food for just one person.

Stephanie S remarked on poor service at Serratto. Her review was recent, so I was surprised because we got excellent service there. There were five of us. We had a personable and helpful waiter and an equally so bus-boy (man, not boy!). The menu was interesting and the food delicious. Our group ordered Caesar salad, beet salad, crab ravioli, osso buco, pork shoulder done in a Middle Eastern way, and corn cakes. Everything was beautifully presented and delicious. My pork shoulder was a tiny bit dry, but that was the only complaint anyone had. I'm stingy with stars, and seldom give 5, so Serratto was a very positive experience all the way around.

We've been here twice, once for happy hour and another for pizza takeout. The interior of the restaurant is very cozy and warm, and you can watch the chefs in the open air kitchen in the center of the restaurant. Our happy hour experience was excellent, and the wines of the day (a Grenache and a white blend) were both very pleasant. The desserts were delicious and are worth saving room for, especially the cheesecake. The pizza del giorno has been very good in both instances, and we will be back soon to sample our way around the rest of the menu!

This was a 3.5-4 star experience for me. I think they make enough money to have a few servers, but apparently not. The service was lacking. I hear the happy hour is great, so I might be back for that. Hopefully they have more servers. The bread is good, the caprese salad is excellent (and small), the cavatelli is delicious and complex, the tagliatelle was underwhelming and simple to the point of boring. The pasta was not cooked very well and it was definitely from a box. It didn't help that I was at A Cena 3 days before coming here. It was just disgustingly heavy. I don't even remember the last dish we got. Must've been so-so.

It is not a place where you close your eyes, sit back, and say, "Ah yes, when I was in Toscania there was a place like this." I tried this, and was told this wasn't the place for that. It sure is nice, though, to sit on the sidewalk and have a margherita pizza and a glass of Oregon pinot. It wasn't anywhere near my top 50 pizzas, but it is exactly what you should be eating on a Portland summer evening. The raviolis were good, too, but not sublime. Service was better than most places around here.

I like this place. I've had good soup and an excellent burger. THe burger is great, but would be even better if they put it on a better bun. . i think they used a house baked brioche bun. If you want a salad instead of fries they charge a little extra. The wild boar pasta was good here. I think it was better at Piaza Italia.

We came here a few weeks ago(on a Sunday). I've been here before and have had a great experience. But the server was rude and we felt rushed. Also, they forgot a salad. We didn't say anything as we were told when we sat down that a large party would come within the hour and need the tables. Later, I let a manager know how the experience went. He was very nice and apologized. I appreciate that. However, even though the food is good I'm reluctant to give $ towards ( perhaps) another uncomfortable experience.

expectations were not met. the place looks fancy, the food sounds delicious. i can only say that i was let down, perhaps due to expecting greatness, but only getting something passable. the calamari app was pretty disappointing (very fried outside, moist/wet inside - sauce was not good at all - the marinara sauce i asked as substitute was much better) the bread was good. my pasta dish with boar ($18) was pretty decent. the spaghetti was ok as well. service was both good and bad at the same time (if that makes sense to anyone else) $10 house wine/glass? nothing knocked my socks off and given the price tag won't likely explore their menu further

This place is heaven. I primarily come here for bar/happy hour visits. I've had dinner and lunch in the dining room-delightful as well. Spacious, comfortable feel Great regulars who dine at the bar Knowledgeable, Erudite bartender Tues-Fridays. Kurt is stellar. Happy Hour Menu - fun for an upscale place. $8 for their Pizza Del Giorno-perfect to share Extensive Wine List 3 TAPS-but rotates local beer Dinner prices medium to high (exceptional NW/and Italian type cuisine) Slow Food Movement My favorite is an after dinner cocktail or ale in the wintertime Great date place, catch up with a friend, or come on your own and meet a new friend.

The vibe and the service might be a bit better than the food, but only a bit. Has a real homey feel to it, with comfortable chairs and elegant romantic lighting. Parking is a bit annoying but I had long since forgotten about that by the time I was seated. Spinach salad was excellent. Calamari was exceptionally tender and flavorful. I overheard the people at the next table complaining about it, so I suppose it's possible that it isn't consistent. But mine was outstanding. I had the rigatoni with spicy sausage and it was excellent as well. Unfortunately it left me too full for dessert, as there were a couple options I wanted to try. It's likely I will return if I am in the area again. Four stars.

My wife and I received a gift certificate for Serratto from friends. The place is very nice and the ambiance is really great. The service is top-notch. Overall appearances are that this is pure class. Small menu of tasty items, nothing terribly expensive and quite a dishes that are in the 14-18 range. We ordered calamari, which was extremely tasty but their version is to serve it a bit on the browned side (not burned, just really well done). It arrived with a tasty tartar sauce that was better than most I've had. She ordered Ravioli: forest mushroom, caramelized onion & Chèvre filling, brown butter, sage, pecorino , which was bland and too salty. I ordered Rigatoni: spicy Italian sausage, garlic, onion, tomato, fresh mozzarella, basil; too salty. The spice in the sausage was great, the flavor of the sauce was good, but WOW was it salty. Our waiter was awesome so we tipped & left, never to return (on my dime).

So sad. Sad when service brings the rating of a place down so much. We came to Serratto with no reservation on Friday at about 6:30 and were able to sit at the "wine bar" with no wait. Bonus. We were seated quickly and that's where the service ended, with the exception of the bus boy, who was busting his hump. We came for Portland Dining Month's 3 course meal for $25, which was a great deal given the normal prices at this restaurant. As my guy and I have different dietary needs (I'm allergic to anchovies, so no caesar and I don't eat pork...), we ordered everything they offered for this deal! Caesar salad, simple salad, shrimp cavatelli, hangar steak, and creme brulee. Crusty bread first with a little pour of olive oil. Very chewy bread, decent crust with a rustic floury outside. Good olive oil too. The waitress took a good 10 minutes to come take our order. Our salad was brought out by someone else pretty quickly. Lots of gorgonzola on the simple salad, great candied walnuts, and a light vinaigrette. Decent, but if I had paid $7 for it, I would have been disappointed. The caeser (I snuck a bite...) had awesome house-made croutons of the crusty chewy bread. The dressing had a bit of a kick, but was wonderful. Lots of shredded cheese on top too. Next, 20 minutes later, came our entree. My shrimp, I will say, were PERFECT. decent size and plump and firm and properly cooked. The sauce was tomato based and had fava beans (like 3), peas, asparagus, and pasta. The pasta was great, the sauce was good, the veggies still had bite to them. We both enjoyed it very much. The hangar steak with morels and potatoes was a bit of a disappointment. The "medium" steak was very rare. And overall the whole thing was a bummer. Some crispy bacon pieces, 2 or 3 morel pieces, 3 whole entire quail egg sized potatoes, and a slice of blue cheese butter. So the pasta was the way to go for sure. Then another 20 minutes, maybe more. Mind you, there were 2 of us. Only 2. Then came the creme brulee. And THAT, was worth the wait. It was so good. Great flavor, sweet, not too sweet. Perfect sugar brulee all the way to the edge. A couple of berries on top and this baked twist with a bit of sugar and cinnamon. Very tasty. I would just go order that again. And guess what... Another 15 minutes after our plates had been cleared by the super-bus boy before our waitress even notices we are sitting there with no drink, no food, no check. She finally says "Oh, I'll get your check. Sorry, I just got kinda busy." During that 15 minutes, we got to watch the manager (we are assuming, only staff member in a suit) chew out our waitress for messing up the input of a drink order resulting in incorrect pours, that then sat for over 10 minutes without being delivered. Very professional.... Then he YELLS across the dining room at the bus boy who is resetting tables "I don't care about the tables, I need food out now!" Seriously dude... All in all, the food was decent. 3 star food. 5 star creme brulee. But the service? May as well have been at Denny's, probably better there. I think we would consider coming back in for happy hour where we won't be worrying about service. Almost 2 hours for dinner for 2 people was insane, especially since it wasn't our choice, we were just ignored.

Serratto has been around for so long that it gets forgotten about as a true Portland foodie experience. As others have come, been hyped, and then gone, these guys have been cranking out the hits since the 80's. I was guilty of forgetting their greatness but was quickly reminded as soon as the Ken's artisan bread hit the table. Then the perfect Old Fashioned, followed by the amazing salads. But the star of the show was the braised wild boar pasta. I feel sorry for anyone who engaged me in conversation the following 5 days because it was all I talked about. Don't sleep on this Portland giant.

We dressed up and expected a wonderful evening out. Well, although the service was Ok,it was just average. I noticed that the things that were good were not actually cooked or prepared by the kitchen. The wine was good.(expensive.) The cheese & bread were good. Our pasta(ravioli) was expensive and there wasn't much of it. The sauce was not great. But it was not cooked! The edges were doughy. Ick. The salads- seriously you would be better off with a $3 salad pack and your own oil & vinegar. It was lettuce with a whiff of dressing. I looked for the candied nuts and found 3 under the lettuce. My companion's spinach was not dressed, although there was a couple of tablespoons on the plate. The soup was ok-average. The ambiance is not special. It's a bit loud with the hard services. We won't be back. There are too many great places in Portland.

Been here once and had a great experience. I had heard the burger was good so I got it. They only had one kind of burger and it was sooooo good I shared it with my bf because I couldn't finish it. And he got a pasta dish with wild boar and hazelnuts. It was also delicious I wish I remembered the name but those 2 ingredients stood out when I read it on the menu. The service was good and the staff was friendly and always kept our glasses filled. My only complaint would be the loud table sitting next to us about 6 older men who looked and talked like characters out of Madmen. The table arrangements are close together whenever I got up I literally would have to suck in and squeeze around them without bumping into other customers. That won't prevent me from coming back because the food was really good. I'll just ask to sit somewhere more open.

A fairly nice place....cozy, comfortable and friendly. The space was upscale and the food nicely done. Our waitress was very friendly and engaging, but the standards of finer dining ( re-silvering, checking in, etc.) were ignored. Not a bad place for the dime, but they could easily improve a few things to up the experience!

In short (at least for me): *Great location *Great atmosphere and decor - really loved the feeling of the place when I walked through the doors, lots of different seating areas, open and airy yet warm and comfy. *Amazing staff - I dropped tarter sauce all over the ground, my dining companion and myself, the staff cheerfully assisted in cleanup and even cracked a smile when I made a comment about my grace. *Pretty darn good food - a little on the salty side for my personal palette - but overall very tasty, generous portions, good quality food. *Tasty cocktails - $5 for a good Lemon Drop *Super Happy Hour selection - Calamari $5, Cheese Pizza $6 (it was really big), Lamb meatballs $5, a Simple Salad with Candied Walnuts $4 - were some of the tasties we enjoyed.

What a fantastic find for 2 tourists on a rainy Valentines night. Walked in w/o a reservation and got the last table for 2. Rigatoni with a nice ragu and just enough heat was great, Scallops were nicely charred with a butternut squash on the side. The bread was surely baked in Italy:) Cesar salad was crisp and nicely balanced. Local wines here speak for themselves in excellence. The Alphabet district has numerous hot spots to dine and Serratto is at the forefront.

Love the food and drinks there. I just can't stand the hostess. She is so rude! I've never seen such a rude hostess in a restaurant. I understand that they don't make much money, but she should leave that attitude at home. This is Portland and the restaurant is not THAT elegant.

Nice setting. We ordered Calamari which were hot and tasty. A tad salty, We all had salads to start. The Kale one was good, the Caesar and House were just OK. Our entrees were mixed. Ravioli was tasty. Osso Buco was OK. Rigatoni was not so good -- acrid sauce. For the price, which is on the high end, I would go elsewhere for more inventive cuisine with more finesse. They did credit us on the Rigatoni. Wouldn't recommend.

We were in Portland for only 1 night and read through restaurant recommendations given by the hotel. We were close to Serratto in the Nob Hill area and decided to give it a try. It was excellent, one of the best meals I've ever had. The scallops were cooked to perfection and my companion had the fish special, which is enjoyed thoroughly also. Service was great and I highly recommend this place.

Happy Hour is where it's at! $5.00 Lemondrops? You bet! A pretty great food menu for HH as well. The bartender is always friendly-there's definitely no attitude at this NW haunt! So yes, barkeep, make me another!

Came here for the Happy Hour and were not disappointed! The food was good as well as the wine and beer. Our server Tony was cool and helpful and even kept the truffle oil off of my fries! We had the Calamari, Piquillo peppers, Beet salad and a burger, with 2 glasses of wine and 2 beers all for around 40 bucks. I will be back for the Wild Boar! Not sure why it says not god for kids in the scrip. We brought our little one, 9-months, they let us park our stroller in the entry way and handily had a high chair ready, Tony even brought some of the other servers by to ogle over the baby. Bringing kids here is just fine. =)

Went there for Sunday lunch. Bread is good (from Ken's). Burger is GREAT (ordered medium, but got med rare, altho I didn't mind). French dip was okay. I like the warmth of the space - nice big windows. Service was slightly on the slow side, especially for desert for some reason.

Really good food and cocktails, but the portion sizes were you-must-be-joking small. Everyone at our large table furrowed their brows when the food was served. I think I would like to go back with just my husband or a friend to see if maybe I order differently when I'm not concerned about the fact that my boss is paying.

The boy took me here for my birthday last week. It was an all around crappy week (I hurt myself mountain biking, fell off my rode bike, my cat broke her leg, realized I'm broke as hell, and had a minor emotional breakdown) but our trip to Serratto kept it from being a total loss. First of all, the bartender was a slightly older guy that seemed like he'd been doing it a while and took it pretty seriously, not some tattooed hipster kid. When they were out of an ingredient for a drink I ordered he offered a substitution, then came over to our table to make sure it was ok and offered to bring me something else if I wasn't happy with it. It was delicious, and I appreciated that he came out from behind the bar to make sure I was happy. They have pasta in two sizes, so you can do the Italian thing and get a smaller pasta portion and still have room for an entree (those Italians are genius), or larger portions if you just want the pasta. The boy had something with fresh mozzarella and basil (he's a sucker for fresh basil), it was good, but my butternut squash ravioli was definitely a better choice. It had a light, creamy sauce and hazelnuts, yum! For our entrees he had the pork which he loved, and I had the duck. I don't eat duck very often, and the last time I did it was almost orgasmic, so this paled slightly in comparison, but was still very good. Everything else on the menu sounded delicious as well, I don't think you could go wrong. Oh, and when I decided to have a glass of wine but couldn't decide which one our server brought me generous samples of her favorite as well as the bartender's so I could choose. Thanks to Serratto for being the one bright spot in an otherwise craptastic week. I was able to put my worries aside and enjoy my birthday for a couple hours. Hopefully I'll be back for happy hour soon.

I have been here for happy hour and brunch... brunch is good, and happy hour is great. I especially like the happy hour since I can get a vodka martini for $5. Usually you only get some fruity drink on the happy hour menu, but not here. So for under $20 bucks you can stagger home, and not have to cook. Good deal. Their pizza special is usually pretty good, as are both of the salads (Caesar and beet). The atmosphere is fine, you can sit at the bar, in the lower bar/dining area, and they have couches up on a higher level. Waitresses have always been great, and take good care of you. Thinking about it makes me want to head over now... happy hour starts in a few minutes... hmmm. So just remember... Happy Hour is great.

LOOOVE this restaurant, great Pacific Northwest cuisine with a Mediterranean twist. I regularly come here for special occasions cause they are a little pricy for my pocket book but I could see this place being great for a nice lunch as well. I almost always get the chicken which is $18. This restaurant is almost always has multiple vegetarian options. This is one of the first places i recommend to people visiting.

Serratto has nabbed a spot on my permanent list of places to rely on. They have yet to go wrong on the food, and the atmosphere is pleasant. It's great for small or large parties, and their lunch and happy hour menus make the place approachable for those on a budget. While I recommend trying the rest of the menu for a more creative meal, the burger is among the best I've found so far in Portland.

Perhaps it's unfair that I started out with unrealistically high expectations: I had a love affair with Tuscany Grill, which used to be next door to Serrato (where Bar Mingo now is), and I was told that Serrato and Mingo are run by the same people (who ran Tuscany Grill). It was so much, "a bit much", but then not quite enough where it counted. It was difficult to locate a good protein choice for myself -- I'm a meat/fish and vegetables woman -- and while there were a lot of "interesting" choices on the menu, there weren't many that stood out as exciting to try. My companion was really in the mood for pasta, and the server was OK substituting that for the potatoes that were meant to go with what he ordered, but he remarked that the pasta wasn't that great. I found my protein in the burger, and while it was good, there was so *much* of everything ... the burger was impossible to eat like a burger, so I slid out the meat and ate it alone, getting just a nibble of the unremarkable shoestring potatoes. It was good, for a burger, but the entree overall was disappointing for a $18 (yes, an $18 burger). I'd like to see them up the quality, and drop the quantity a little, considering the prices. I can't believe I ordered the burger, but nothing else on the menu that had a decent portion of protein really grabbed my interest. Also lacking are good descriptions of each dish; this may be why it was difficult to find something that really stood out. Again for these prices, it's worth Serrato spending a bit more money on printing their menus, to include more information about the ingredients in each dish. The atmosphere was nice, so I might repeat the visit another time when atmosphere is the key ingredient -- but there are too many other good choices for food, to keep coming to Serrato for that.

Had a great dinner here with my sister on Chistmas Eve, how nice of them to be open! I don't remember well what we ate, but I remember how warm and inviting the restaurant was. Just a wonderful ambiance, and we were very satisfied with the entire experience of this restaurant.

This is a nice Italian spot in a really nice neighborhood. We came in outta the rain, soaked as two Angelenos would be(obvious rain rookies). The atmosphere is great as is the service and the wine selection. Full bar is a great bonus. I started with the mussels which were the best I've ever had. They were big and meaty. The sauce could've used some work. It seems like its prepared to order and I'm not sure if thats the best way to get a really flavorful broth. I had the parpardalle with boar for a main. The portion was BIG. The boar was delicious but the pasta was overcooked. It seemed like they didn't let the pasta settle before adding the sauce. This place could be amazing if they worked out some of these details.

I had not been to Serratto for a long time, as we have been trying to branch out and eat other places. After getting a horrible meal a few blocks to the south, we decided to try and save the night by going to Serratto and eating at the bar. Service was excellent, the bartender was phenomenal, and the food was great, especially the chocolate peanut butter cobbler. Great food, great service, and great ambiance. You can't go wrong with Serratto.

Well, nuts. I hate to be the person to give a place the lowest review. I think this is more like 3 and a half stars, but on the low end so I had to round down. The husband and I headed there for the happy hour menu. First, let me start with the positive. The service is excellent. Attentive without being TOO attentive. We sat outside and they didn't forget about us. No drink minimum at happy hour which is nice because the husband isn't down with the booze (I know, I know. How did we end up married?) I had the calamari and the Caesar salad. The calamari had an excellent flavor, but it was underdone so it was really greasy. It was also way too salty. I hardly ever complain about salt. I'm a salt fanatic. The salad was only okay. Frankly, I like to offend strangers on the street with my garlic breath after eating a Caesar salad, but that's just me. The husband liked his pizza but he subscribes to the "Sex is like pizza. Even when it's bad, it's still pretty good," school of thought. However, I'm not ready to throw in the towel on this place yet. Next time I will order the French Onion soup and the pomme frittes. That's what I really wanted today, but you know I'm on french fry detox. So in insurance speak, "I reserve the right to amend this review at a later date."

Went there 2 weeks ago and looking back, nothing really stands out. OK place with OK food OK service but nothing special. Wait, the bloody Mary was fantastic but when a cocktail is the highlight you remember, I doubt a return visit is in order. Wish I could be more positive but Portland has so many great restaurants now that they have to keep raising the bar to stay in the game.

Had dinner at Seratto last night with family and have mixed reviews. Wile the bread, food and drinks were great, we cut our meal short due to uncomfortable seating in the back area. Tables were situated against the wall with half our party on a padded bench, two of us were in large wooden chairs with wicker seats. By the end of the meal we were playing musical chairs to give our butts a rest. I wonder if management has ever sat for a meal in these seats? I won't go back unless I can reserve a leather chair in the front room.

One of my new favorite places for insanely good pasta. After a heated internal debate over whether I should order the risotto, mac & cheese or manicotti, I asked the waitress to choose. I was not disappointed. The manicotti was baked in its own little dish, with the perfect crust of crispy cheesy goodness. And the boyfriends chicken, mashed potatoes and broccolini dish was enough to tempt even a life long vegetarian such as myself. Ok, I've got to stop talking about it. I think I might have to return for lunch today.

This restaurant is the reason I like an out of 10 rating. This is more like a 7 out of 10 then a 3 out of 5. The restaurant fell short from a 4 stars due to lower end ingredients. The mixed greens for the salad are boxed mixed greens, basically the same greens you buy at Fred Myers. They do have a great food happy hour but I was not impressed with the wine or drink selections, but I go out to eat for the food anyway. The Good: Pizza, good pizza and great value. I did not get the fennel flavor in the salami, but still good. Burger, awesome, strawberry farm ground beef..what a deal. The fries are thin fries from a bag and not hand cut, but the burger makes up for the poor fries. Rigatoni, this is really good homemade pasta. To me it tasted as if they make it in house rather then purchase from the local vendors. I would order this again for sure. The okay Calamari, just a touch to salty and the remoulade sauce was not good, but all in all the Calamari was pretty good. I'll Pass The Caesar salad. Again, low end ingredients really show on a light salad. Make better croutons and buy better romaine and this would be a hit. Ceviche, way to much citrus. Either they needed to cover up the taste and smell of old/bad seafood or they just don't know how to make Ceviche...I was done after one bite, and I hate to waste food, but it was simply not good. Serratto is the type of place I will take my parents when they are in town. It will be a awesome meal for anybody who is used to eating at chain restaurants, but does not really 'get' great food.

You must go! Late night is my favorite time to have dinner at Serratto because it's quiet and leisurely. The manila clams are amazing and I won't even bother suggesting an entree because I've had at least a bite of each one and all are tasty. The atmosphere is perfect for a date!

Wow! What an incredible burger for lunch. That burger ranks number 2 on my all time list. For only $10, you get an amazing burger on an incredible bun with OK fries--but who needs fries with a burger like that. Atmosphere is great. I will be back soon.

This place is killin' me! OK, I was going to keep it at 3 stars because they have a fantastic Caesar Salad, alas, due to the utter incompetence of the wait staff, Serrato has been dragged to the bowels of 2 star ratings for this Yelper. So s...l...o...w..., yes I knew this going in. But my goodness, at least make it pleasant & get the damn order right! Seriously, you can screw up an order for a table of only 3 people, of which 2 people order the same meal? My friend & the hubs order the same dinner, I order something else. When our food arrived, we ALL got the same thing! When I informed the server my order was wrong, she looked at me like a confused puppy, & asked me, "Are you sure?". I know it was a long time ago, but I am fairly certain I can remember my order when I gave it! Here's where it get hilarious! She picks up my plate, walks about 3 steps away, brings it back, puts it back in front of me, & tells me, "Here, just eat this until I get what you ordered." OMG! Then, she brings my order out, & with no warning, swaps the plates. Granted, I wasn't eating the first dinner, since I didn't want it, & didn't want to ruin my appetite for what I did order.... but still! I can't believe I'm saying this, but I will go back...... ONLY for that amazing Caesar Salad......... & if they screw that up, it's definitely over for good!

First meal in Portland. Not bad. Our server was so nice, I loved her. This fine establishment is located in the Alphabet District a couple of blocks from our hotel. Serratto is nestled in a great little neighborhood. Now, onto the meal. First of all, I have to toot my own horn. Please amuse me. My kids (5 & 8) have these amazing palettes. They started with the steam clams in saffron broth. this dish is absolute perfection. The sweet tenderness of the clams compliment the perfectly seasoned clear broth with a pleasant punch of saffron. This was a really big appetizer. The kids moved onto Atlantic salmon lentil cous cous shaved fennel and blood orange gastrique. The female offspring was in heaven. She enjoyed every morsel of the fish. The male offspring did enee minee mo between the tenderloin of strawberry mountain beef with potato galette, some sort of wine reduction and the burger with house made BBQ sauce white cheddar crispy onions with pomme frites. The burger won. It had a nice flavor but it was still a burger at the end of the day. The spousal unit ordered the wild boar ragu tagliatelle with orange zest. That was just phenomenal. Now, I could see that if it were fresh pasta, it would be grounds for orgasm. Then, he moved onto almond crusted seared trout with oyster mushroom and farro. He stuffed himself silly. He was uncomfortable. I think in the end he ordered everything right. Me, that's a different story. I ordered the special appetizer of the night. Duck confit goat cheese red onion pizza. The idea is good. The execution, not so good. The dough was over work, tough and had burnt edges. The duck was almost non existent. The cheese was overpoweringly mozzarella. There was some goat, but again not much. I moved onto the loser of my son's two choices. The presentation is beautiful, the flavors were good and well seasoned. The sauce was a perfected consistency. However, my steak was more medium than my request of medium rare. It was also somewhat too mealy. This is a result of over cooking and from a grain fed cow. Overall, the food was fantastic. The Oregon Pinot that we ordered was like drinking grape juice, yum. Atmosphere is cool but loud. We like this place.

I went back with my husband and a dear friend and discovered that not only was the waitress I met last year still there, the story of a stranger's kindness in buying my dinner is now part of restaurant legend! The waitress is Heather and she is a dear so say hello if you go in. The food is still good and the ambience perfect for romance or hanging with friends. definitely a place we'll return to.

A true neighborhood gem! This place is simply fantastic! The ambiance is delightful and warm, you never feel rushed, and the waitstaff is knowledgeable and willing to make spot-on suggestions... not to mention the *amazing* happy hour food. What's more, the entire staff is so personable that it truly feels like you're eating amongst good friends. Case in point: I recently became obsessed with the paint color that they have on their back wall- I love the feeling that it brings to the room, and a good blue is hard to come by! When I asked the owner about the paint color via email she contacted the janitor, who pulled the paint can, and they let me know the name, color ID, and maker of the shade. Truly impressive! For the food, for the feeling, for the folks- you've simply gotta try Serratto!

Absolutely loved this place. My family was in town for my graduation, and the six of us all thoroughly enjoyed our meals and the overall experience. The service was quite good. We had a reservation and were seated promptly which is always nice. The place was packed on a Saturday, but the service didn't suffer because of it. Our server was attentive, but not overbearing which is exactly how we like it. We started out with some wine (excellent), cocktails (nothing fancy, but quite good), and appetizers. Everything arrived quickly and tasted great. A few of us got salads, which they were happy to split for us, and we shared the calamari and the pom frites. I can't speak for the calamari, but the frites were very tasty. For dinner, we had a little of everything. The parmesan chicken was excellent, as were the broccolini and mashed potatoes it was served with. Other people in our party had the scallops (which were reportedly delicious), the steak (which my partner says we'll definitely be returning for), and the prawns which were also very good. Main dishes will run you anywhere from $12 - $30, but the portions were generous, and the meal cooked very well. For a nicer dinner out, it was exactly what we hoped for. We ended up sharing a chocolate soufflé between us, and it, too, was delightful. The only thing that's stopping me from giving Serrato the 5th star is the fact that I've only been in once. After going back, if the experience is similar, I'll definitely change this to a 5 star review. Delicious and great experience.

Went there for my birthday, my daughter made reservation online with the request to put a candle on my desert which didn't happen, as a matter of fact the desert came a very long time after a the waitress seemingly not up to the task placed forks and knives on the table for desert, not to mention she put only 2 sets, we were a party of three. In addition I had to ask for my drink ( ok., it was only a soda, not a 12 $ glass of wine) which I have ordered. My question for specialty sodas was answered in disbelief and poor knowledge, "no, we don't have special sodas", but they had Izzy Blackberry soda.....???? They only served their delicious bread on request, my daughter got the wrong salad and the bill was wrong. The food itself was mediocre. A little disappointing all in all

Nice place. Good service. They were pretty busy on the Friday that we showed up with no reservations. They said it'd take 45 to an hour to seat us, so we sat at the bar. Nice bar keep and kind people at the bar. Luckily, a table opened up sooner than we were told, 15 minutes. Pretty cool. For pupus, we had the calamari and some wine. Mmmm good. Dinner was good. I had the Rigatoni, housemade pasta. Yummy. My wife had the Seared Sea Scallops to perfection. Overall, great dining experience. I will go back again. Mos-def.

One of my favorite restaurants in Portland. I've eaten lunch and dinner here dozens of times and never had a meal that was less than excellent. It amazes me with all the hype about the Portland food scene that you never really read or hear much about this great spot. In fact, I'm a little embarrassed I haven't reviewed it until now. My favorite dish is the Rigatoni with Italian sausage. The homemade freshness of the sauce is just incredible. Also, the have the best burger in town. I've had some of the fish specials before which were also great, and the salads are nice and a little different as well. Always had good service, and love the homey vibe of the inside, without it being too loud. It's not cheap but if I want to guarantee a nice meal and ambience, Serratto is it.

HAPPY HOUR Surprise! One of the best burgers in the city! Also award-winning spicy rigatoni. And stone-oven, wood-fired pizza = YUM!! Such exceptional food -- at both Happy Hour and at dinner as well. Inside, it's a nice, understated place, or sit outside along their sidewalk. Drink Specials $3.00 drafts; $5.00 red or white house wine $5.00 cocktail specials I love it, IIloveit, ILOVEIT!

My boyfriend and I have started a Valentine's Day tradition that includes dinner at Serratto! We are typically late for everything, so when we arrived late for our reservation we were not surprised that our table was given away. However, they were able to accomodate us and totally did it with a great attitude! We are super grateful that our evening was everything we wanted it to be, and we owe it all to the great staff at Serratto! We absolutely love this place! The vibe and atmosphere are just what we love, the service is exceptional, and the food is absolutely amazing! We will continue to tell all of our friends what great experiences we've had, and have already booked our reservation for next year...for fifteen minutes later, this time! Thank you again for making our evening a wonderful and memorable one!

Upscale Itaillan food ? Serratto may be your place. Yes, they have the pizza but I ate dinner there and they concentrate on a more interesting and diverse dinner. I had Muscovy Duck, my partner had lamb shank, another; roasted chicken and another ordered the special; prime rib steak. Pastas are a good part of the menu but as you can see by our selections; not limited to the typical fare. For starters we had deep fried calimari which seeemed rather ordinary and of not much taste. And we tried the meat and cheese sampler and fries. The fries were fries, but the meat and cheese was of mixed reviews. We all loved the Roqueford cheese, it was creamy and strong tasting. the meat was paper thin sllices of what I assume was a fatty panchetta that just came off as eating fat. There was a hard cheese and two types of olives, neither of them memorable. We got our main meals and were all happy with our choices. All nicely done with herbs and spices; strong but complimentry to our mains. I was disapointed in the size of my serving with only three very thin slices of duck. We all tasted the desserts, the volcano cake was typically decadent, but the cream Brulle was excellent with a good creamyness to it as well as a crispy carmelized top, not too overbearing in sweetness. We brought our own wine and the sevice was excellent. One big complaint was the noise level. It was hard to even hear one across the table.

Like so many Portland places, Serratto offers a great happy hour and a pretty average dinner experience. My boyfriend and I tried the happy hour just before Christmas and found it to be a great value. Some places offer no drink specials for HH and some places offer their least appealing food for HH. I think Serratto offers a really nice variety of like 10 things ranging from salads to appetizing appetizers and a cheeseburger WITH fries. Five dollar glasses of wine or cocktails are also really appealing. Dinner, on the other hand, is kind of generic. The pasta dishes are good but not really any better than other places out and about where you get a plate of noodles and sauce for around $14. My friend had the fish and it was kind of greasy and overcooked. So, 5 stars for HH and 3 stars for dinner=average 4 stars. A nice, comfortable, attractive dining room makes Serratto a valuable asset on an otherwise questionable street.

Elegant, trendy and comfortable at the same time. I felt like home. The best pommes frites I have ever eaten!!!! You have not had fries until you had these. They serve them with garlic aioli and ketchup.

Went in for lunch on a Saturday. Ordered a draft beer, a small salad, and the daily special pizza. Beer was good (of course). Salad was $6 with greens and candied walnuts - $2 for Gorgonzola. Salad arrived - handful of greens - 5 walnuts and a tablespoon of Gorgonzola - really?- for $8?! Pizza was good, however.

Had dinner there last night. The ambiance, in my opinion, was really, really nice -- inviting, comfortable, and both casual and romantic at the same time. Pretty good wine selection (by the glass), extensive list by the bottle. For an Italian restaurant, though, food was probably a B-minus. Not straight 'menu in Italian' style, which is fine, but slightly lacking in fresh 'pop-in-your-mouth' flavors. The Risotto, however, was very, very good, and my friend believed that it had not been cooked in chicken stock, as is normal, but vegetable stock -- we asked the server, and she knew the answer immediately (vegetable stock), so product knowledge is obviously very important for Seratto (which would take me to my other opinion about Portland cuisine: while it not might be truly unique or special, there is so much pride in it. Anyway...). Based on the potential of the food and the wonderful ambiance, while not a top restaurant food-wise, I plan on returning several times to work my way through the menu. I expect this ranking to go up.

I went here one night to meet with a bunch of people. Because of the size of our party, we were put in a private room which is cool and all except for the fact that we felt ignored most of the night. It seemed to take 20 minutes for the waiter to come back each time...20 min to get our menus, 20 min to place our drink order, 20 min to get our order, 20 min to place food order and it kept going like that (a little bit longer for food but that's understandable). The food was pretty delicious but the portion was pretty small even when I ordered the regular size (my pasta dish was given two size options, a small and regula); one of the other guests got the small size and there did not seem to be much of a difference. Cocktail and food was great but there were too many small things that made the whole experience exhausting and not a great first impression. I would come back for drinks though tentativelly (my dinner guest had two drinks that she hated but everyone else liked their drinks so good odds of another good drink I would say)

I have to say, I really liked this place. The overall feel initially is that this is a place "trying too hard" to work an Italian feel, but this was an unfair assessment on my part. Our service was above par and the food was excellent overall. We had the tuna tartare nicoise and the calamari and both were very good. For main courses we had the pizza margherita (very nice for a place that is not a pizza specialty restaurant ), the risotto (excellent), the lamb sirloin with polenta (very tender and well seasoned), and a corn/bacon chowder (smoky and delicious). I should also add that the wine we had, an Avignonesi Vino Nobile de Montepulciano was very reasonably priced. Overall, a very good meal and we will definitely be back.

I come here during happy hour everytime I come visit Portland. I love splitting the bacon burger and their wood-fired pizza of the day. The salad of course is always a good idea, and really everything they have to offer is pretty great. But seriously, stuck on the burger. The best in Portland! It has to be the juiciest burger with homeground meat i have ever tasted fried onion strings, secret sauce, and bacon!! And it comes with Belgium fries and homemade sauces. I love their pizzas, but I am sad I have not had that one pizza they made once, with lemon zest white bechamel sauce and other stuff i can't remember.. The best part is that their special pizza of the day is a random creation of things the chef finds, bad part is if you love it, you'll prolly never get it again, so write down those ingredients and ask for it again!.

I guess I was debating between 3 stars and 4 stars. And originally slated the place at 4 stars, however with the passage of time and better taste I'm doing a downgrade. My apologies to anyone offended. Service is (generally) excellent. Food is (generally) fine. I've never had a bad experience there . . . I just don't know if I've ever had a real memorable one either.

Absolutely fabulous. I called on Thursday for a reservation for Saturday, Feb 13 (Valentine's!) and was lucky to get a 9 pm spot. Arrived right on time and had to wait about 15 minutes, which was fine, because the hostess offered us complimentary sparkling wine... and when we said we didn't drink, she came back with sparkling water! The food was phenom, from start to finish. The blue mussels in the appetizer were big and juicy, the meat and cheese plate was wonderfully generous. As for the entrees, oh my gosh. I had the braised lamb shank, and it was literally falling off the bone almost melted in my mouth. My boyfriend had the duck au confit special, and raved about it the whole time. Too full for dessert, unfortunately, but I'll definitely go back to try them. The service was friendly and knowledgeable but not perfect, although the place was packed! The decor is wonderfully elegant yet homey, a truly Italian feel to it with scrubbed wood ceilings and pale walls. A definite go-to on NW 21st.

One of our best Portland dining experiences. The restaurant was packed when we got there on Sat night but we still had excellent service from our waitress, Samantha. She made great recommendations and was very knowledgable. While all the food and wine was delicious, the peanut butter chocolate souffle was amazing. Be sure to order it with the espresso speedball.

We popped in for lunch at Serratto last week, and were pleasantly surprised. The mussels as an appetizer were fantastic. There are few travesties in the universe worse than overcooked mussels (except bad crème brûlée, see my review of the Crab Cracker), and I'm happy to report that these mussels were brilliant... great flavor, and sweet and tender. I had the Beef Dip for lunch, pleasant surprise again! The bread was fresh and slightly toasted, and the thinly-sliced beef had a nice crust yet remained melt-in-your-mouth tender (how do they do that??). A generous portion of au jus and tasty fries rounded out the plate. Finally, the tiramisu cake (there was a birthday in our group) was fantastic, and they even spelled everything right. :-) Okay, so I didn't order the fanciest stuff on the menu. But I think if a restaurant can get the basics like Beef Deep right, it's a good sign. I'll definitely visit again.

Extremely friendly staff even when the evening was so obviously near an end for them. We sat at the bar, ordered drinks and a couple rounds of food. We chatted with the bar tender and any servers walking by were happily adding to the conversation. Drink: A liberal pour of Basil Hayden's, a strong Hot Tottie, and a couple of generous pours of various Red Wines. Food: We sampled various items including the soup d' jour (Roast Chicken), French Onion, Rigatoni, and Tagliatelle. Everything was delicious and portions weren't overwhelming nor were they lacking. We'll happily go back here.

Just back from Portland where my husband and I were lucky enough to enjoy three days of sunny 72 degree weather and no rain. We took advantage of the clear skies and walked from our hotel up 21st to see about dinner. Right off the bat we found Serratto and, having read good reviews, decided to sit on one of their sidewalk tables and have an appetizer and a glass of wine. We thought we'd wander up the street and try appetizers and wine at a few places, but the atmosphere, food, wine and service were so nice we ended up staying. We started with a Malbec and a Pinot with the Pizza Margherita. The produce was fresh and ripe and the pizza was truly perfect. We followed that with really delicious lamb meatballs. These were both appetizers but the portions were really generous and after scraping our plates clean we were full. We ordered the wine sampler to enjoy with dessert, and the chocolate cake was the only non-perfect moment. We both found it a little bit dry, though the fresh raspberry sauce added flavor and moisture. All in all it was a really enjoyable meal, the price was right and I'd definitely eat there again next time I'm in Portland.

The saving grace of this place was the ambiance and the fabulous bread. Outside of that--everything we ordered was not good. I had the soup of the day- butternut squash soup. It was flavorless and was the consistency of pudding. Dad had the spaghetti bolognese and it was bland and dry. Mom had the chicken sandwich. It was very blah. Luckily her french fries were yummy so we had some snack from our lunch. I won't be going back.

Big plus: Very strong 'Jamieson on the Rocks'! Of course, at $7.00 USD a pop, they better be. The place was busy for a Friday, but what restaurant in Nob Hi-- er, I mean, Alphabet District (man, I still hate that term)-- isn't busy on the night that ushers in the weekend? Still, it didn't seem as chaotic as most popular restaurants get. Our party of five was sat on time. Claudia was mouthing off at Bailey again but a bottle of Russian River Chardonnay calmed both of them down. We shared several appetizers which were mostly very good. I especially liked their Margherita Pizza, which was light yet flavorful. Their Ahi Tuna Tartare Nicoise and Fried Calamari were also delicious, but the Pommes Frites were a bit of a disappointment. And hand-cut my ass; they looked processed. I had the Grilled Moroccan Spiced Pork Loin as an entree and it was very good. It could've been more moist-- as most things are always infinitely better as-- but it still packed a punch in the flavor department. The bed of almond couscous infused with apple chutney and sauteed spinach on which it was perched made for a healthy and tasty side. I was able to try a bite of the Seared Sea Scallops which Crazy was craving, and it also tasted nice. It doesn't compare to the one I'd enjoyed at Fenouil, though. I also liked the endless supply of artisan bread provided during dinner. And the service was very good. But nothing blew me away. Hence, only four stars. If I'd have walked out of there with my jeans stuck to my loins, it certainly meant that I'd had an over-the-moon experience. But it was still way better than average, which is why I'm looking forward to a return visit in the future, if only for the possibility of a truly epicurean affair.

surprised at bad reviews!! Happy Hour is the only time I have been, it is a spendy high class place. So we go for their AMAZING happy hour, which is 7 days a week from 4-6pm. Weekend happy hour!!! The burger is maybe the best I have had, with white cheddar, sweet bbq sauce, crispy onions, and bacon! WOW. Their fries, pommes frites are phenomenal. Calamari is good, very rich though. Hummus is maybe the best I have ever had as well. Pizza, again, is AMAZING. crispy, thin. BIG and cheap for happy hour. The cosmo drink specials are so yummy, not too strong (but it's happy hour.) Pricey food, so I recommend happy hour specials. Service is great! they are right on. Never had a bad experience. I go like once a week now!

Yesterday afternoon (because it was so warm outside), I decided to finally explore the city on my own. I did my own personal walking tour from the city center and found my way up here because it was nearing dinner time and I was ready to eat. Decided on this place because it had sidewalk seating AND music that I like (lounge-y, sexy brazilian music). I ordered a bottle of pinot blanc (from Elk Cove, an Oregon winery) and their spinach salad with candied walnuts, apples, manchego cheese with bacon vinaigrette to start while waiting for my dining cohort to show up. After being faced with tough choices (duck? moroccan pork loin? boar ragu?) I ordered the cheeseburger with bbq bacon and onion rings as my main dish because I was craving something meaty. I ordered it medium but honestly, it came out to be more on the med-rare side and I didn't mind after all I always order steak rare and I love eating raw beef dishes. The fries were really good too and plentiful...couldn't finish them all. I mean, it was either the wine or the fries. I went for the wine. Bread pudding for dessert was shared. It was pretty good but we were too full to finish it all (I went for the wine, remember?) All in all, I had a good leisurely experience here and the staff was very friendly from the moment I walked in until the end of dinner.

Went to Serratto this weekend for dinner. Hadn't been in about 2 years and forgot how delicious it is. It was especially exciting because we went to France and Italy last month and we were already missing the European Cuisine. Serratto does an excellent job of bringing Italian and French Cuisine together. We shared the Ahi appetizer and ordered the tagliatelle and ravioli for our entrees. Paired of course with Tuscan chianti classico. Food and service were both excellent!! I'll be back sooner next time.

Very warm and inviting atmosphere. Took a bit to figure out where I was supposed to wait to be seated due to the many entrances, but eventually made our way to a table outside. Service was perfect. Gave us what we wanted without constantly asking us "how was everything?" I ordered the cavatelli with dungeness crab. Pasta was too al dente for me, but I'm sure others like it that way. Crab had a subtle lemon flavor and was paired with brussel sprouts cooked perfectly to my liking. Minus the pasta being too firm for my taste, the dish was a hit. I would definitely go back to taste all the other goodies they have to offer. Hats off to Tony Meyer the executive chef.

We came here last Saturday afternoon as the second stop on our Happy Hour bar crawl. They have plenty of seats in the upper & lower bar area which is a good thing because they were getting pretty busy by 4:30pm. Our waitress came over & welcomed us right away and brought glasses of water (always nice not to have to ask). We both ordered a beer (served in the smaller type pint glasses). HH food menu had a lot of great choices and good diversity of types of food. My boyfriend ordered the mussels ($8) and I was torn between the pizza of the day (chicken w/ garlic sauce) or the Painted Hills burger. Our waitress said she hadn't tried that particular pizza but that the burger is one of her favorites, so I ordered the burger ($6). While the mussels tasted great in their red pepper broth, we were disappointed that there were only 6 of them. However, my burger, which had all the trimmings plus bacon, cheese, & a bbq-style sauce and was served with a side of fries, was FANTASTIC! I have eaten a lot of gourmet burgers in places that are known for making the best, and this one ranked in the top 5 for sure. I think it was the combination of high quality, fresh ingredients, that it was cooked medium-rare without me having to request it, and that it wasn't dripping with grease but yet the meat was still juicy. On a picky note, I would have preferred crispier fries, but for $6 this has got to be one of the best HH deals in Portland! BTW, I did see several HH pizzas brought to tables near us. Based on sight/size alone, I would definitely recommend trying one of them as well. The vibe at first seems a little upscale (the main dining room has white tablecloths). But there was a diverse crowd of all ages & clothing styles so we didn't feel under-dressed in our jeans & Merrells. BTW, be sure to check out the bathroom music. They were playing an Italian language tape in the women's and my boyfriend said it was Spanish in the men's. This place would get 5 stars if they had a bigger beer selection (only 3 taps).

I can't comment on their happy hour because I haven't tried it. However, I've been there for dinner several times over the last few years. Maybe I'm easy to please, but here's what I LOVE about Serratto: 1. It's a very big space. I've never had to wait, with or without a reservation. Also, I don't feel crammed in when I eat there. 2. The staff is warm and unpretentious. They're attentive and not snooty. They're very good at anticipating, and they disappear when they should. 3. Great food. 4. Reasonable (not cheap, not outrageous) prices. I've never had a disappointing experience there. Maybe it's not the right place for happy hour--I don't know--but for dinner, it's great.

Ok, met friends for happy hour. They have a great deal on happy hour food during the hours of 4-6:30. A special wine selection, a handful of cocktails for cheap, and a whole bunch of yummy food for a third the price of the dinner menu. Bar is big, but also full of groups. Get there early and hunker down for a bunch of goodness!

I have been to Serratto twice in two years now and have had great experiences. It is busy on Friday nights, but not hard to get into. Service is great. Last night we had the pommes frites (yummy and fried twice!) with the garlic aoli which has the perfect amount of garlic. I had the french onion soup which is the best I have had, but very rich, so I could only finish half. My husband enjoyed his caesar salad. My entree was the crepes stuffed with mushrooms, garlic and chevre, served over braised escarole and purple potatoes. It was so flavorful and filling for a vegetarian dish. I brought home half and enjoyed it again for lunch today -- YUM. Unfortunately, my husband's three cheese fusili fell flat. It was dry and not very flavorful. The waiter offered to bring more cream sauce, which was great, but it still didn't help the dish all that much. I'm sorry, but how do you screw up mac and cheese?? Again, our server was excellent and most of the food was great. $60 plus tip for all that food in a fun atmosphere is a deal. We will be back again.

We took our kids to Serratto on Friday night and we could not have had a more enjoyable time! We ordered the Pheasant Special, Rigatoni with Italian Sausage, morrocan Pork Shoulder and the Roasted Quail. It was pure delight on the taste buds as the first 3 dishes were solid 4.5 stars. The quail was only a 3. Great atmosphere and we cannot wait to head there again and try some other dishes. OUTSTANDING Service from our water & bread guy. He gets 5 stars! We had the nice, but ditzy, server and she gets 2.5 stars. Chefs definitely get 5 stars. The hostess gets 1 star because her attitude was visible a mile ahead of her and sge hasn't learned to smile yet, apparently. So overall, 4 stars and a great night out!

My new GF loves itialian food, so we have been trying out some different italian restaurants in town. We went out on Friday night and were immediately impressed with the ambiance of the restaurant. It is a very nice setting, candlelit and dark. The service was good, but the food defiinitely left something to be desired. The halibut was bland and so was her seafood dish. The bread and olive oil was terrible. I think we were just spoiled because we had eaten at Pastini the time before, which we LOVED. The abiance there was a little less private, but the food was AMAZING.

I really liked the atmosphere here. Had the roasted draper valley chicken, simple salad and a yummy pepper cocktail that I don't remember the name of. Had reservations on a Saturday night but it did not seem overly busy anyway. Staff was nice and refilled water several times. Like other reviewers have mentioned the overall pace was really slow about an hour and a half from order taken until we finished eating with no dessert. I will go back because I thought the food was excellent.

And the hype monster strikes again. [insert dramatic music here] Either that or high-starred establishments are out to get me. I wouldn't be surprised if it's a personal vendetta. In fact, it would be somewhat hilarious. "Oooh, here comes Michelle, let's make sure we make her experience as crappy as possible and rain on her parade. It'll be fun!" The rave reviews have instilled a desire to get my hands all over the happy hour menu at Seratto. It sounded fabulous, amazing, and downright perfect. So many writers that I know and love, and would trust my life with, have nothing but glowing praise. I had to see what the deal was. I had been chomping at the bit to get my butt over there. So my butt and I wandered in a few nights ago. The atmosphere was love, very warm and inviting. It wasn't overly pretentious. I didn't feel awkward. It was great. We were seated in the bar area and were promptly greeted by the most perky server I have met in a long, long time. She was bursting with so much energy, I was tired by the time she finished talking. Menus were laid on the table and water glasses were filled. The rest was history, and no, it wasn't a good history. The premise of the HH was great. $5 martinis, lemon drops, etc compliment great sounding food options. We ordered up a martini and picked out the calamari, hummus, pizza of the day, and ribs. We were using it as a dinner after all. All of the dishes were simple and safe. However, none of it, and I mean NONE of it was good. It was an absolute disappointment. The martinis were a mistake. I'm just not a fan of vodka martinis, I guess. I knew I should have stuck to my gin roots, but I was swayed by the guise of fabulous Ketel One martinis. I'm sure it was personal preference that made these suck, but I'm just not a fan of visibly shuddering with every sip. Needless to say, I only had one. The food was one mistake after another. The calamari came first. I felt like I was dipping deep fried salt into tartar sauce. It wasn't pleasant at all. My mouth would dry up after each bite only to be followed up with that martini of death. The pieces were small, and it reminded me as the bottom of the bag. You know what I mean? We didn't even finish it. The hummus was forgettable. A small dish of hummus was presented with some veggie slices and a few pieces of pita. There wasn't much pita to go around. The pizza of the day had the makings of awesomeness: bacon, onion, garlic, feta, walnut. However, the flavor fell flat. The crust was even flatter, and if you didn't eat it within five minutes of it hitting the table? Watch out for the texture possibly ripping your teeth out. Pizza leather for the lose. The ribs had decent flavor, but were ridiculously overcooked. Charcoal is not an acceptable seasoning. So all that salt, charcoal, and shuddering set us back $40 with tip. I had the same amount of food and drink for $25 with tip at Lucy's Table, and LT was beyond superior. The execution danced circles and squares around it. The only thing Seratto had going for it was service and atmosphere, but to me, those fall flat when everything else fails. You could be saying to yourself, "But Michelle, why didn't you send back the food if you hated it so much?" I'm just not that kind of diner. I let myself be kicked in the ass for making poor choices, and then I learn from those mistakes by not going back again. Besides, it gives me that much more reason to go back to Lucy's Table.

Knock knock? Who's there? Salt. Salt who? SALT SALT SALT SALT SAAAAAAALT! That's who. Serratto kills me. KILLS ME. Here's why. It's really pretty inside. The lighting is that good mix between oh-my-god-it's-so-dark-i-may-have-to-light-the-menu-on-fire-just-to-read-it, and being no-atmosphere-at-all-bright. Lot's of cool giant star lanterns. The crowd seemed alright and not pretentious. The servers are low key and nice. People rave about this Happy Hour. They RAVE. Aaaand it's right down the street from me. How could I not love it? Right? Yeah. uh... talk about a tease. Man. I don't love it. I don't. I...yeah...I don't even LIKE it. We ordered this mythical Happy Hour. The menu looked decent. Lot's to choose from. Here's the run down: 2 Kettle One martinis. House-made Hummus Dry-rubbed, grilled baby back pork ribs Calamari and a special pizza of the day with bacon, red onions, blue cheese, and walnuts. I've thought about this for a few days now. Exactly how to describe this food. Because it is all different kinds of food....but it tastes exactly the same. What does it taste like?....wanna guess? Remember that scene in The Good, The Bad and The Ugly when Clint Eastwood is crawling out of the desert and his lips are all chapped and funky and he can barely move because he's so thirsty? And he looks up and he says "...water!" Yeah. That's how I would describe it. Underwhelming. Too bad because I had high hopes. The hummus was the LEAST salty of the dishes, but that is not saying much. The pizza, while good in theory, left us parched and they burnt the hell out of the walnuts. The ribs were terrible. I know they were "Dry-rubbed" but COME ON. That's too dry. Gritty and hard to get the meat off the bone. And the Calamari. I've never left that much Calamari on a plate before. Just seems wrong. I think our collective facial expressions must have tipped off our waitress that we weren't fans. She came over to take away the two thirds of calamari that we didn't eat. "You didn't like it??", she said her eyes, filled with concern for our stomachs. We exchanged a glance and decided to spare our complaints and dissatisfaction with this person, who is just doing her job and was actually quiet nice. "No it was fine", I heard the lie slip out of my mouth. And with that she took away the plate and left us with the three remaining salty and dry dishes. I downed the rest of my martini and sighed. Couldn't help thinking that even the Morton Salt Girl, if she had joined us, would be like "Damn. That's too damn salty." And I would agree. Did this review make you thirsty? :)

The food here is solid. While I've always almost left happy, I've had a few things that didn't do much for me given their price, and that's why I've given it 4 stars. My favorite thing on their menu is their flat-bread vegetarian sandwich for lunch, and I've been obsessing about it since I first tried it over a week ago. The venue is very nice and upscale. It is very large inside and would be good for hosting larger parties. It is open late (for Portland) and should be commended for that. All in all, a very good restaurant that is worth checking out.

My wife and I stopped by for a light dinner on Friday evening around 5. We ordered : ANDERSON RANCHES LAMB ALBÓNDIGAS roasted garlic tzatziki, arugula, roasted red peppers ....succulent and full of flavor. ROASTED ASPARAGUS fried polenta cakes, summer squash, Manchego, almonds, carrots, romesco...a great array of complex flavors And a Grilled Shrimp over a Cannellini bean salad....the Shrimp were grilled to perfection and the beans were tossed in a great olive oil. For Dessert: Chocolate-Peanut Butter Cobbler...unfortunately it was overcooked so we had a difficult time eating it. Strawberry short cake...Loved it. The strawberries were so sweet in a balsamic vinegar sauce. The short bread biscuit was good too. Overall it was a great summer meal.

I'm not quite sure how this place passes as an Italian restaurant, but I'll take it anyway. Oh, right...they play Italian language CDs in the bathroom. Nothing like hearing how to direct your hair stylist while doin' your biz. Okay, enough. Happy Hour. Fab? Fab! The staff graciously sat a large group of us, even though I could tell they weren't so thrilled. The menu...while not the CHEAPEST HH menu I've ordered from (items were either $4 or $6), it was definitely one of the classiest. Baby back ribs. Beet salads. Mac-'n'-cheese. Pomme frites. And then the glorious burger seemed the clear winner. NOMMMM!! Several said it was perfect with crispy onions, white cheddar, BACON, and barbeque sauce. How could that NOT be delicious?? Awesome. Also, HH include drink specials--$4 featured wines and $5 selected cocktails. Brills! My only complaint was that our food all came out at weird times, and they had a SERIOUS issue splitting the check. They did it weird where if you needed to pay with a card, they would take one card at a time, charge it, and then bring back a revised receipt. Except the charges were weird, and they added gratuity strangely, and at the end of the night, someone had to cough up an extra $5. Not cool. But I'll totally be back with a smaller group. Or a date, perhaps? This place is SEXAY!

After a LONG day of walking, with one friend on crutches and a young girl in a stroller, we came across this place by accident and what a HAPPY accident it was -- excellent food, great service, and fantastic atmosphere. Between the two bottles of wine, yummy bread & olive oil, spinach salad, halibut, macaroni & cheese, ravioli, and tagliatelle with wild boar, we all left with full stomachs and light heads. A perfect way to end the day and jump onto the street car to head back to the hotel. I'll be recommending this place to others for sure.

Gave them another chance after a bad visit last year. Deja Vu all over again. Long time to get seating and then they were in no hurry to take our order as the end of happy hour was getting very near. Portions have gotten even smaller here as the prices have gone up. Lamb was way under cooked. Rest of the food was fine. Waitress brought the wrong beer and didn't bring our Hummus plate until we were almost done with our main dishes, despite telling us it was "on the way" more than once. She never even asked how the food was. Guess I might try again in another year?

It was Dad's birthday this weekend and since I'm the one in the family who's "on that Yelp thing", sister suggested that I be the one to figure out where to go for dinner. So I pondered... where does one take a guy who's a trained chef turned food service director for an awesomely cool meal? A chain restaurant is definitely out of the question. Montage? A bit too much... Trendy Pizza? They'd kill me. But something in my gut was telling me to go for the new Italian type place, and I figured we could give Serratto's a shot. Defiantly consider making reservations a few days in advance. When I called to get a table for 4 at 6 they mentioned that a big party was coming in and asked if we either come in a little earlier or later so we didn't get caught up in the large party. Showing up at 6.30 on a Saturday night, the place was packed. However the tiered layout, big dining space, and high ceilings made it feel like you had room to breath, as well as not have to shout over the noise when holding a conversation. It has a classy for Portland atmosphere. White clothed and candlelit tables dot the hardwood floored dining room underneath iron chandeliers suspended from the exposed timber structure. Large windows look out onto 21st and contemporary art hangs from the walls. The open kitchen and bar face each other and serves whiz from each, giving something else to watch as you wait for your meal. Dinners are a little more expensive, with pasta dishes around $15 - 17 and steaks, seafood, and other entrees between $18-30. I settled on the Rigatoni with spicy Italian sausage, garlic, fresh mozzarella and basil. I typically NEVER order anything with 'spicy' in the title, but for some reason was feeling brave. It ended not as bad as I expected, and was probably underwhelming for those who really go for things with a kick. Paired with a simple salad and a glass of wine, it was the perfect fall dinner... yum. I'm still smiling. We decided to forgo dessert as there was a homemade birthday cake at the house (mmm...) but what went by on trays looked deliciously divine and another reason to go back. The staff might be the best in the area. From hostess, to waitress, to busboy I've never seen such genuine service in town. There's a certain art to attentiveness without hovering, and they really have it down. It's easily become one of my favorite places in town for a fancy night out. And I figure Serratto's might be one of the top spots in Portland, but then again, I do have the bias of knowing what my fellow Yeeps think. So getting in the car I asked Dad what he thought of the whole experience: "As good as it gets." So... 5 stars. And that's coming from a professional.

Happy Hour! Woohooo! Happy! Joy! Booze! YIHHHAAAAAAAAA....!!! That's what I thought when Saturday came along, to the Serratto, I went with my dearest yeeps. I fell in love with the $5 cocktails selection. Hello, Margarita, Martini, Cosmo and Lemon Drop! Food menu was pretty good selection and I had the dry rubbed baby back ribs for $6. It's not a to die for ribs, but it's a solid good meal. The dining room is hugeeeeeee and they have pretty good service until we need to pay for our check. They have the weirdest splitting check system ever. I might come back for another round happy hour, can't wait for another $5 Lemon drop. Yummeh...

Prepare to be Impressed. Yes, that is Impressed with a capital "I". Serrato focuses on using seasonal local ingredients to prepare their delectable dishes. And while I really love everything about Serrato, it is hard to overlook the fact that the food is really amazing - even though I'd come here for the atmosphere alone. They do a particularly good job with their burger & fries, but I haven't met a dish I didn't like. Happy Hour is from 4-6pm daily and a long list of food options are available for anywhere between $4 and $7. The best deal is definitely the pizza of the day or burger - they're both excellent, but they are also very large portions for the cost. The space accommodates a group of Happy Hour folks easily as well. Dinners can become expensive, but given the quality of laid-back and on the spot service, the nice ambiance that escapes pretension, and the great food, its worth the money. Also, every day they offer a flight of wines for tasting, which is a definitely a unique and nice touch.

the service, the food, the wine, the ambiance... it's all solid. i've been eating here for years and i have yet to have anything but a perfect experience... starting with great bread and ending with a perfect creme brulee with so many nice options in between .. trout is great, so are the scallops, and the nicoise is crazy good with in house potatoe chips and raw tuna...soo good. they don't overprice their wine or their food.. best sunday brunch...okay okay one of the top three

Busy Saturday night, no reservation, we sat at the bar for dinner. Really comfy cozy bar with dimmed lighting and a great bartender, not overworked and interested in helping with the menu. The soup of the day, a fabulous halibut ciaoppino, and the mac n cheese rich, creamy, and to die for. My date had the rigatoni and raved. A drink each, and full dinners, our bill was $48.00. Excellent service, dining room was well-lit and smelled fantastic. We will be back often.

Service was horrible. When we walked in at happy hour I wasn't sure if I wanted to order off the happy hour menu or the dinner menu. Instead of letting me sit down and look at both, the hostess made me decide then and there. I'm not sure why this was, there was hardly anyone in the place. Our waitress was unfriendly, and seemed as though she was being put out by us. It was to the point where it was uncomfortable and we wanted to get out of there as soon as possible. The food didn't make up for the service. We ordered off happy house menu). I had rigatoni with italian sausage (hardly any sausage). My boyfriend had prawns. The portion was so small even for happy hour, there were 4 very tiny pieces of shrimp, so he had to order something else.

My wife and I visited Serratto for happy hour last weekend and had a very positive experience. The happy hour menu had at least four choices between which I was torn. I ended up having the ribs with paprika potato salad, while my wife had rigatoni with sausage. We shared the hummus/veggie plate and the beat salad. We were both very pleased with out meals overall. The ribs were tender and flavorful. The rigatoni was better than the one served at Stanford's happy hour. The only thing that bordered on disappointing was the hummus/veggie platter. The hummus was flavorful, but there wasn't enough bread to with it and the veggies were actually just some carrot slices. On the other hand, the olives that came with it were a great compliment to the meal. We really enjoyed the atmosphere. The decor was nice, the vibe was relaxed, and music was fun. With the food I mentioned above, one glass of wine (total), and tip, we got out for $32. That's not cheap by happy hour standards, but it was well worth it at Serratto (especially considering that the average entree on the dinner menu is ~$20).

I'll quote FD's review to the letter. Her pasta was weird, and I'm glad I didn't order it. The duck breast was perfect in every way including the berries that came with it. The onion soup was killer!!! The servers are attentive and friendly. The food is good and I was content.

Serratto has an Italian house-beautiful layout, with the space in the restaurant and bar to push your tables and chair back, talk with your hands, and not be overheard by the tables near you. Their wine flights are usually $12 for three pretty generous pours. They also usually have a good wine or two on happy hour. I go to Serratto for happy hour, wine and pizza, or dessert. The happy hour varies a little, but has filling portions and is a great deal; their margarita pizza always does the trick if I don't like the sound of their pizza of the day, and their desserts just do it for me the way most people's don't. I don't like Serratto for dinner, (even though they give you free prosecco if your table isn't ready) because I can cook a mean plate pasta myself and resent paying someone else, just about anyone else, for something I can make just as well. Service is always a good balance of friendly and attentive, but they give you your space.

Great Happy Hour! I went with a large group that just got larger and larger as the afternoon went on. Our waitress was very attentive to each new person who came in and she was super helpful finding us extra chairs to squeeze around the table. I can't speak for all the food on the happy hour list since every single person I was with ordered the burger. It was fantastic and big enough to count as a whole meal for $6. I completely recommend this happy hour to everyone and I plan to go back again and again.

Horrible experience even though we didn't eat there. I went on their site to book a family diner for Christmas Eve and their site reserved a 6:00 pm table for our party. I get a notification at 3:04pm that the time has been changed to 3:30. I call to reconfirm my original 6 pm reservation and they are no help in getting a table. Great automated process.....NOT.

Happy Hour Daily - 4:30 - 6:00 PM We had: -Crispy fried calamari with lemon caper remoulade - ($5) -Dry-rubbed baby back pork ribs with Spanish potato salad - ($6) -Full dinner-sized (12"+) pizza - ($6) All wells, or anything that doesn't involve more than three steps, muddling or a liquor - ($5) (We picked Gin/tonic, and Cosmo, but only after listing every drink we can think of and asking how many steps a Long Island is, etc. Don't hate the player, hate the game.) We added a white Russian ($7) and milk chocolate peanut butter cobbler served warm with housemade vanilla bean gelato ($8). Everything ranged from "really good" to "OMG. This is SO frickin' good!" (The milk chocolate peanut butter cobbler with vanilla gelato). Service was just right. There were a lot of bugs, gnats, flying things, but this has been true everywhere lately, including the magnificent Casa Kitty. Other happy hour selections: -Mussels in butter, shallots, garlic, parsely and white wine and bread - ($6) -Hand cut pommes frites with sea salt and house dipping sauces - ($4) -French onion soup with Gruyere cheese - ($5) -Ceasar - ($4) -Beet, pear and chevre on baby greens with Dijon-tarragon vinaigrett and crispy garlic - ($4) -Burger with bacon, white cheddar, bbq sauce and crispy fried onions with pommes frites - ($6) -Rigatoni with spicy Italian sausage, garlic, tomato, fresh mozzarella and basil - ($6) -Macaroni baked with three chees and toasted herb bread crumbs - ($6) And the other desserts include: Bread Pudding, Peach Spice Cake, Hazelnut Creme Brulee, New York Cheesecake, Gelato and Sorbetto Parking in the Pearl is a pooper, but if I lived anywhere over there, I would find meself at Serratto's happy hour tons and lots.

What a delicious meal we had here tonight. It took a pretty long time to get served, but everything we had was really wonderful. A Painted Hills burger with garlic aioli, mixed green salad with gorgonzola, pommes frites, breadcrumbed mac n cheese (three cheeses, unbelievable), asparagus with ham, bolognese pasta (fyi: the non-tomatoey kind) and an incredible wild boar pizza with fried egg. Wow!

The first time I went to Serratto, the experience was awful. They brought me an entree I did not order. By the time they brought the correct food, my dinner mate had finished his meal and the salmon fillet they finally brought was so raw that I'm sure if I'd thrown it back, it would have been fully capable of swimming. I like my salmon rare, but that was ridiculous. So, the next day I got on the computer and wrote an email to the chef. He was very apologetic and sent me a gift certificate for $25.00. It pays to complain, just not while you're there. Another friend and I went for a try, armed with my gift certificate. I figured if it was going to be another bad experience, at least it would cost $25.00 less than otherwise. This time it was awesome and we were raving about the experience. I had the Grilled Oregon Albacore Tuna which was cooked to perfection. The fact that they fully redeemed themselves, not only with a stellar experience but the gift certificate as well, prompted me to give them 5 stars. I really like the atmosphere here too. It's open and big with large window. Though it can be a little noisy, it's not enough to be a distraction. Great Job Serratto

So after a pretty terrible experience on Valentine's Day, we returned to Serratto for our two year anniversary (partially because we did want to try the food, but mostly because we had a $100 gift certificate.) I have to say our second trip was a huge success. The hostess was very sweet and remembered us and brought us drinks for our anniversary and maybe to make up for our past experience. The server was very attentive and came back frequently to make sure our wine glasses were always full. We had a bottle of the Mondeuse, which was a good price at $36, but also really smooth and fruity. The appetizers came out quickly. We had the Calamari and the Pommes Frites which were super crispy and delicious! The garlic aoeli was the perfect dip for them. All these people who complain that it's "too garlicky" are insane; there is NO SUCH THING. The main course took a little longer to come out. I had the mushroom Risotto, which was extremely creamy and rich, and my boyfriend had the Anderson Ranches Lamb. We both loved them, but he admitted he liked the flavor of my dish better! We finished with Crème Brûlée, which was tasty, but slightly over torched. All-in-all we were pleased with our experience and were so glad we gave it another chance. We will definitely back to try more of the menu.

I can't say enough about how good of an experience we had at Serratto! I had the Cavalini (sorry that is probably wrong..) and I can't stop thinking about it... All 4 of us had something different and the feeling was mutual around the table about how great the food was. We also all loved our drinks. I had a perfectly balanced Vesper martini. The service was awesome, they were busy we had no reservation, Friday night and they were able to accommodate us still. The staff was friendly and helpful. Overall a really great experience!!

These days it seems we are running out of places to try for HH....we've been to so many! We came here on a Sat before seeing a show. I love how it's split into a few levels, the bar area is huge and decorated nicely with couches and chairs. Not just the "standard" seating. The HH menu was extensive, a lot to choose from and $5 glasses of wine. Sounds great! WE sampled many things on the menu. I really liked the poblano stuffed peppers with quinoa! The pasta is home made and really tasty too! The meat sauce was very meaty and dark, rich tasting, good thing it was a small portion. My one small complaint was the service. We had many people dropping off dishes to our table and leaving very quickly. Almost like a drop and run...felt a bit in the cold side. Our main server was very friendly though. While I wasn't "blown away" by the food, it was good and decent. With so many spots in Portland to choose from though, I may not be a regular at this place for my HH times.

The ambiance is nice and the location is great. The ahi tuna nicoise was interesting. I still like regular ahi tuna tartare better. This one was definitely different and interesting. As it was "nicoise" there wasn't as much dressing or extra flavoring. The flavoring comes mainly from the ingredients, eggs, olives, etc. The full flavor lingers and doesn't quite hit you until you after you chew and swallow. A pleasant surprise. The burger was pretty darn good. That's probably the only thing I would go back for. I'm not sure how you mess up fries, but my fries that day weren't very good. Came out a bit on the lukewarm side. The oil seemed already congealed.

Great open venue. Beet salad was great with pear. Wonderful decor and windows are wonderful on the 21st street scene. Their french dip was terrific with painted hills beef. Their portions were substantial so watch for that. Overall a great place to have a late lunch on Saturday.

the food is good.. but their portions are rather small.. service was excellent the calamari appetizer is a bit bland (needs salt).. and their charcuterie plate needed to have more salumi.. my butternut squash soup was really tiny and was finished within a couple minutes my pacific ling cod entree was good although small.. of note.. the tables are really close to one another and it's pretty loud here..

Great upscale cafe to have lunch with a friend. REALLY good pizza - perfect size to split with another person and super tasty ingredients. Caesar salad unfortunately was drowning in dressing - go light or put it on the side! But I would love to come back and try the entrees. Not many cafes anymore with tablecloths and the like that don't come across as stuffy - Serratto did a great job :)

Serratto is a restaurant I generally like, which I recommend to many people for lunch. I hadn't been in years for dinner and went on Valentine's Day. From the time we arrived to when we departed, it was clear the staff was extraordinarily busy and everyone was a bit off their game, which is somewhat to be expected. Anyone in the industry working this night had their hands full. Yet, from the hostess, to the server, to the food, this was a disappointment. The hostess seemed confused and jokingly accused me of stealing a table when our names were called to be seated. The server didn't know what beers were on tap, which is a problem when there are only a couple. I have no idea if you have to order bread or not, but we were the only table that didn't have any and were never asked if we wanted any (it would have helped since the bread I got with the bouillabaisse was burnt). The lamb appetizer was woefully under-seasoned and a bit overcooked. The bouillabaisse had amazing flavors and was incredibly delicious, but had completely raw potatoes in it. It seemed a wholly unnecessary ingredient, so it didn't ruin the meal, but it was so bizarre, it almost seemed funny. My companion's raviolis had great flavors as well, but were under-cooked. I'll probably be back to try again, but not on a weekend evening.

I was here again a couple of days ago with a friend. We got a seat by an open window in the bar area (we loved it) Anyways nice place for a date or come to Happy Hour and hang out with Friends or eat at the bar! The food and drinks are always good, prices aren't bad, even service is good! Note: they play Italian language tapes in the bathrooms. ...no one is in the stall with you!

Went in with a group of 10 for a retirement get-together during Happy Hour on Saturday. They were not busy and we requested a table to seat 10. No, I did not call in a reservation but did not think that it would be too much of a problem to seat 10. From the time I first walked into Serratto I got the impression that we were an inconvenience. Not a good feeling for the occasion that we were celebrating. An extra person showed up and would not have enough room at the table that they had initially wanted to set us up at so we were moved to another table. AGAIN-I truly felt like we were a huge inconvenience. Tony was the only person that made me feel like it was "ok" to accommodate our group. So Thank you Tony! Was planning on going to Serratto with a group of girlfriends for dinner next week, will I return there, no. I will go elsewhere.

How have I missed you? You have been under my nose all this time and it took someone physically taking me there for me to realize your existence. Boy do I feel silly now. Serratto, I am sorry I was unaware of your existence until now. I will never slight you again. My dinner companion and I enjoyed your mussels and calamari for starters but what I really adored were my seared sea scallops. Do you see my seafood theme here? Well my companion had the beef tenderloin and it was perfectly pink in the middle, and nicely tender. I think I could have cut the little morsel I was given with my fork it was so tender, but I used a steak knife because I am proper that way. It was fantastic. But I was over the moon for my scallops. The ambience of Serratto is quite lovely as well. Rustic, romantic and spacious. All the tables are far enough apart so that you don't feel like your neighbors are listening in on your business. We were lucky enough to have a table by one of the open windows. Now that I know you are here Serratto, I am aware that you have happy hour as well. Your happy hour looks quite impressive and I am looking forward to coming back and checking you out again.

We ate dinner lastnight and we'll definitely be back...My wife and I were both so happy with our selections, ambiance, service, and our server was good, not great. Speaking of the server, this rating would have been a 5 star if we had been impressed with her. Can't win them all, ahh, its fun to be picky, : ) Still wish a nice restaurant like this or other 'Italian' establishments would offer lasagna but you can't win them all I guess, lol....

The boyfriend and I made reservations for lunch in this very elegant and simple place one sunny Saturday. We ordered the Ahi Tuna and the french fries as appetizers (apparently they were popular choices). The ahi tuna was not fantastic. It was one of the worst ahi tunas i have tried in one of these kinds of restaurants. The frites were nothing special, paired with mayo and ketchup. As for the entrees, I ordered the truffle risotto and my boyfriend ordered the rock shrimp pasta (not sure about the exact name). I, again, was not impressed with it. I could not taste the truffles in it and my boyfriend was not impressed with his as well. All in all, this restaurant left us with a "meh" impression. I'm sure you can do without it. Not a place that you have to come if you are in Portland for a short period of time.

Serratto never disappoints. We've been here off & on over the years (since Delfina days) , and recently rediscovered it. The food & service are excellent, with an expansive wine list. The pasta and duck dishes are terrific.

I went here for my birthday dinner two days ago. First of all I had a group of 16. Whomever I talked to was wonderful and didn't cringe at the idea of such a large party, they also didn't ask for a 1,000 dollar minimum which surprisingly does happen a lot in Portland. They also didn't call me a million times to check to see if the number had changed (another annoying restaurant occurrence) The food was great! I love their beet salad, Lamb Ragu and the Don Draper drink! yum! Everyone in my group had a great time, Thanks Serratto!

Diverse menu & delicious food but *stunningly* poor, inattentive service. Three of us came in and asked for a table for 6. There was some hesitation as we were only half the party - though the restaurant was pretty empty - before we were seated at a round table in the middle of the room. Despite being visible to the point of waitstaff being able to trip over us, it took a very long time to be served water; we were hyper-aware of the delay because one friend had just completed the STP ride and was begging for a pitcher. When the rest of our party joined, we were still having a hard time getting enough water (2 other guests had also just completed the STP) but the waitress asked for drink orders anyway. This seemed promising but no; two of us received our glasses of wine well after others' cocktails arrived, one friend *never* received his ginger ale and went back to his hotel feeling ill before ordering food, but we were still charged the $2 for his drink. Our meals were tasty but nothing particularly memorable; the service definitely clouded the evening. We ended with having to personally divide, add, and figure the proper percentages of the included gratuity on our bill for the waitress as she was unwilling/unable to do so. Ridiculous ruination of the meal experience.

Serratto is one of my favorite Italian restaurants in Portland. The house-made pasta is fresh and the sauces zesty and rich. The bread alone is a meal, so don't over eat before the entree comes. Kudos for allowing Open Table reservations, which makes it easy to dine there. I have been pleased with the different pasta choices and wines each time I have visited Serratto.

I really wanted to like this place. Although I've only been here for happy hour, I gave it two tries and unfortunately both times they fell short. Regardless here's my HH review: Calamari: Bleh. Looks gorgeous right when it comes out but it ws undercooked and under seasoned. Very bland with a not-so-great texture Bread: Good because it comes from Ken's down the street- which is an amazing bakery Shrimp: Great actually, comes in a yummy sauce but in the awkward number of five... if you are only eating with two it's always a bit annoying Wine: 5 bucks a glass for house red or white during happy hour- pretty average Service: Sorry to say but absolute crap. Our main waitress didn't check-in once until we asked for our check and everyone switched around dropping things off but really quite cold in general Location: Super cute and beautiful place.

After talking about trying this restaurant out for over a year, my boyf and I came by last Thursday for Happy Hour. The place was packed, but we were able to be seated immediately at the bar. We had the Painted Hills burger, deviled eggs with smoked trout, calimari and lemon drop martinis. For someone who is not typically a fan of full size restaurant burgers, especially since they are so messy and too much! However, I could not put this one down! It was delicious, they soaked the bun in some buttery glaze and grilled it which made it so the bun hold it's form & not fall to pieces like burger buns often do. The deviled eggs with smoked trout were perfectly matched flavors and a good serving size (one for each of us). The bartender was very knowledgeable, helpful and attentive to us. His lemon drops were fantastic-not too sugary like many lemon drops I've ordered from other places are. We are definitely going back ! :)

I always enjoy my time here despite the fact that I try to limit my gluten intake :). It is in great location, close to work, it always looks busy, classy, packed, good ambiance. Few of my friends really like this place, we went there for a co-worker's anniversary lunch, the food was really good and there was enough variety for all of us. The only complaint was our server was inattentive, took wrong order, delay and appeared confused with the billing, not sure if he was having a bad day or a newbie there.

Took a weekend trip to Portland and had lunch at Serratto's. The space is lovely, open and airy - perfect spot on a humid day. RIGATONI - Hearty pasta and fresh ingredients gives a great balance to the dish - not too heavy. Fresh mozzarella is what hooked me & the basil gives the pasta a fresh aroma. The Italian sausage is def. spicy but is balanced out by the tomatoes. TAGLIATELLE - The Wild Boar is melt in your mouth moist & juicy. Wish the pasta was a tad thinner. No complaints about service - friendly and attentive.

My husband and I went here last night and had one of the best meals and service that we have had in a long time. We live in the Pearl District and get tired of the same old, same old (Paragon, Rogue, etc) so we decided to change up our usual and go to Serratto (which we have walked by a thousand times on our way home from Salt & Straw on 23rd). First of all, the service was awesome. We had a server named Erin and she was fabulous. Very attentive, but not too attentive, answered questions thoroughly and without annoyance on her face. I have found living in Portland that good service can be hard to come by because many of these places think they are above giving it (ahem, Stepping Stone Café). If we go there again, I will asked to be sat in her section, that is how good she was. Secondly, the food. We started with calamari, which I thought was very well-seasoned. The aioli was a great dipping sauce as well. The only thing that could have been better was a little fresh lemon to squeeze on top, but it was hardly missed. I ordered the Cavatelli pasta which had shrimp and dill cream sauce. The sauce was to die for and the shrimp were cooked perfectly. My husband ordered the Ribeye steak and it also was cooked perfectly. He described the steak as "succulent." I had a couple bites and it was arguably one of the best restaurant steaks I have had. The sherry cream sauce and veggie "hash" that it was served with were great complements. For dessert, we had the Banana Nut Bread Pudding. The bananas had a creme brulée crust on them which was nice texture difference. The vanilla bean gelato was also very tasty. I will say that the Banana Bourbon Bread Pudding you can find at Paragon does have a leg up on Serratto's bread pudding, but it was still good and a nice change with the walnuts. Finally, if the service and food don't convince you to go there, the atmosphere was the ideal blend of quiet and noise, casual and fancy. It felt like I was in a café in a small European town. We were in view of a window, and people watching is always fun in Northwest. As an added bonus, the prices aren't too bad either--we got an appetizer, two entrées, a dessert, and a glass of wine for $73. For a nice dinner that isn't at a brewpub, I was impressed. I highly recommend Serratto the next time you want to try something different!

We've been here twice now. Once for dinner and yesterday for lunch. Both times the food has been delicious! Very northwest, fresh and tasty! Great feel to it as well. This is our new favorite in PDX. It's a little out of the way from crowded NW 23rd, definitely worthwhile!

My go to place in Portland when I cannot get a seat at nearby Caffe Mingo--but, believe me, this is no put down on Serrato. More expansive and a more diversified menu than Caffe Mingo but what sets this place apart is their exceptional happy hour offerings. They, too, start off with excellent bread (we do NOT get bread in San Diego that is anywhere remotely close to the bread they serve in Portland--but then again, Portland is a foodie town whereas San Diego is not). They have a wonderful Caesar salad, full of flavor and their rigatoni with spicy Italian sausage is excellent. Nice, long bar and an attentive staff....not sure why I am only giving Serrato 4 stars--may have to revisit my rating on my next visit and upgrade to 5 stars.

One of the recommendations from our hosts at Heron Haus B&B when we were recently in town. The food was so delicious! Fresh and local, the trout my husband had was delicate and so tasty. I had the handmade pasta with crab which was sublime. I like that you can also order half portions so are able to try out other items. I enjoyed the butter lettuce salad as well. Save room so you can try the chocolate cake but plan on splitting it! Gooey, warm, chocolate-y, not too sweet, served with ice cream.....Oh my! Our servers were warm, friendly, attentive and delightful! Osmin (sp?) is a delight!

I went here yesterday for a lunch date with a dear friend and was delighted. The wait staff were very helpful and upbeat. The ambiance was open and airy and the food was pretty decent. I had the mussels which were pretty average, but my friend had the almond crusted trout which was phenomenal. The experience was topped off with exquisite desserts, bittersweet chocolate cake topped with a vanilla gelato bomb and a peach custard cake. Dyno- mite!!! One thing though, the staff need to chill out on the music. They cranked Steve Miller Band, Kansas and Billy Ocean.

A great place to take someone special and also perfect for larger groups. This sophisticated yet rustic trattoria offers various well drinks, wines and fresh dishes, such as cauliflower soup with pancetta and truffle oil and crunchy white beans with tuna, red onion, spinach and oregano. (which was by far the most excellent dish). For dessert I ordered simple strawbery shotcake and what came was a scone split and stuffed with a vanilla custard like whip cream covered in strawberry juice that was infused with a little mint oil. YUM! Patio, bar, smaller tables and private room dining available.

Slooooooooooow service, but goooood food. You can clearly see from the graph below that even though it took a while for the food to hit the table it was worthy of 5*s. Time in Minutes (after we sat down on a busy Thursday) 35 _| x (Dinner served) | x (Were told that entrees are 30 _| getting plated!) | 20 _| | 15 _| x (Drinks & Bread arrive) | 10 _| x (Orders taken) | 5 _| x (Water) | |______________________________ (Yelp star scale) I I I I I * ** *** **** ***** Lets talk about the real star here, the food: --------------------------------------------------------- House bread: Crusty and airy, perfect for an Italian meal Risotto (W/ tenderloin): Perfectly cooked and seasoned. Rigatoni (W/ Italian sausage): Spicy sausage in sweet tomato sauce. Al dente rigatoni with fresh Mozeralla, everything about the dish was perfect. )))))))) DO NOT GET THE SMALL PORTION PASTA ((((((((((( It's just not worth it. I paid $11 for the small portion of Risotto and got probably 5 tablespoons of risotto. I noticed the next table got regular portion risotto and for $4 more it looked like three times more!

My fiancé and I have been to this place a few times, once for dinner and twice for happy hour. Their regular menu is a bit pricey, but still very good. However, their happy hour is great. This is the one restaurant has never disappointed me, in service, in food, and in drink. the happy hour is affordable and delectable, the dinner menu is rich, fun, and still not through the roof for what you get. the wine list is superb, and even the "cheap" glasses are very good. the cocktail menu is experimental yet classically good. this is where i go when i just want to have something GREAT, and I'd recommend it to everyone.

We stopped by Seratto on our Alphabet District adventure. They were pretty busy since it was right around dinner time so we saddled up to the bar where we were greeted with warmth and hospitality. The happy hour menu looked amazing and included hummus, seafood, burgers, pizza, salads, but unfortunately neither of us had an appetite at the time. The cuisine on the regular menu seemed to have a French/Italian combination. We decided to try a specialty drink...usually I stick with wine and he sticks with beer. I tried the Spicy Mike - hot pepper infused vodka, saffron and cumin infused vodka, and a mango puree. Delicious and interesting. My BF had the Don Draper - Bourbon old fashioned with a splash of orange. Friendly service, beautiful space and delicious cocktails. We are looking forward to trying the happy hour menu next time we're in Portland.

Someone suggested that we go here for the happy hour and we thought okay, we'll just have a few glasses of wine before wandering elsewhere for dinner. Well, they have a happy hour bar menu, so okay, we'll try a salad too. Then we see other people eating a gorgeous pizza, so okay, we'll try that too. Hmmm, short-ribs with fennel slaw...okay, well order that as well. Blah, blah, blah bartender asks us to move our chairs over to fit other patrons, okay, no problem...How about some more wine on the house? Okay, I think we love you. We have to come visit Portland again and try Serrato for dinner.

I've only been here once but it was a pretty disappointing experience so I doubt I will return. We went for dinner on either a Thursday or Friday night and it was incredibly busy. Our server was friendly but the service was very slow. I often found myself wanting a drink refill but our server would disappear for long periods of time which was frustrating. We were there for over 2 1/2 hours which might be ok for a date night but we had a small child so being there so long was a little painful. We placed orders for our starters and some mac and cheese for our daughter right away but it took quite a while to come out. I had the French onion soup and my husband ordered the pommes frites. The soup came to our table scalding hot and the pommes frites were lukewarm at best. When I was finally able to eat the soup, it was very good but by that time, my entree had arrived so I wasn't able to devote my full attention to it. I ordered the tagliatelle with wild boar ragu. I have eaten boar before but this dish was nearly inedible. The pasta was gummy and the ragu was simply disgusting. I took two bites and returned to eating my soup instead. When our server noticed that I was not eating my entree, she offered to bring me a different dish. This time I opted for the duck but found it nearly as disappointing as the pasta. It was not cooked properly and the accompanying beans were very bland. The few bits of chorizo here and there didn't help. However, my husband had the New York strip and enjoyed it quite a bit. As I was still hungry from my lack of suitable entree, I finished with the bittersweet chocolate cobbler. It was good but nothing special. Honestly, my toddler's mac and cheese was probably one of the best dishes of the night! I did enjoy the soup but not enough to return. I left feeling bummed that we had spent so much money (and time) on a meal that was so lackluster.

Bland, overpriced and service was a C at best. Really spend $12 on a glass of bad, overchilled Chardonnay and then get a $200 check payable to a waitress in jean shorts. This place is a conflict in cuisine and ambiance. I say pass.

I think I wound up eating here at least three times while I was in Portland, simply because someone I knew was having surgery at Good Sam's and well- good food is imperative during stressful times. Serratio serves good, fresh, southern Italian food in a nice bistro-style atmosphere. It's the kind of place you take your parents, because you know there's something on the menu that they'll like because its familiar, and you know there's something that you'll be able to get - because they serve actual fresh vegetables and season things with more than just salt and pepper. The service was extremely nice and professional, and kind to a slightly-hard-of-hearing relative. I'd happily go here anytime.

What have I been thinking? This place is steps from my house, but I hardly go. It's crazy. Anyway, a month or so ago my friend and I went for their brunch. They only started serving it Mother's Day, so it hasn't caught on yet. We were able to snag a great window table. My friend ordered a delicious halibut sandwich. It was huge, and he loved it. I had the Parmesan roasted chicken, which was perfect. It has a nice crisp, flavorful crust, with juicy tender meat. It was what's called an airline chicken breast, which means that all the bones are removed except for the wing. There were also creamy, delicious mashed potatoes and broccoli. All were arranged over two very heavenly sauces. One was creamy, the other a reduction from the chicken. It was a generous portion, so I was able to save some for lunch the next day. Yesterday, I finally dropped in for their happy hour that I've been planning to try. We got there when it was just starting, so it wasn't too busy. The other time that I tried to stop, it was packed to capacity, so try to go early. They have a nice selections of pizzas, a couple of pastas and salads, French onion soup, fries, steamed clams, calamari, and a burger I think. My friends and I tried their $4 wine specials. I had a fantastic Italian white, I think a Gavi. It was crisp and perfect for a summer day. The girls had the red, and were also quite happy with their selection. We ordered the fries for something to munch with the wine. They came with 3 dipping sauces. They were thin and crispy, and slightly darker. Just how I like them. Both times I have had wonderful service. The restaurant is very nice. It has an open air feel with high ceilings, and a lot of light wood, including the flooring. There is a separate bar/winery from the dining room, but all would be good choices to dine. Before these last two visits it had been several years since I had gone. I think ownership changed, so the menu, prices, and staff have as a result. If you haven't tried it, or not for a long time go back. It's hard to find happy hours in this part of NW that aren't just bar food, and are really good. It's nice to have this so close.

Great place to dine! I had the sea scallops and a glass of wine. Their chocolate cobbler is to die for. All fresh and organic ingredients that everyone will enjoy. The service was excellent! The waiters and everyone was so friendly-I would definitely try here if you haven't!

The food and wine at Serrato in Portland were wonderful!! Service could have been much better. We really enjoyed the french onion soup & beet salad and the Osso Buco & Duck. Also, the Creme Brulee & espresso is very good. The place was busy, they have tables inside and out and on a day like today either would have been fine. I recommend this place for a great dinner (I just hope you don't get the same server). Also, parking is hard to find, we parked 3 blocks away and were lucky to find a place. Really cute neighborhood & the first time I had been in this part of Portland.

Great night and great service at the end of our short vacation from SF. Dawn was lovely, everyone is laid back and professional. The Lamb is to die for and the wine list is just the right balance of choice - lots of options, but no too much to take in. They can also do some of their by the glass options for bottle prices - don't be afraid to ask!

Wanted to go someplace 'special' for my birthday celebration and someone in our party suggested this place, We hadn't been here before, and it sounded like an interesting menu. Made reservations through the Open Table link on Yelp, and it worked like a charm, which was great for 7 pm on a Friday. Used the valet parking (a bargain at $4.00) as parking in the 'alphabet' district is a nightmare. The restaurant is a fun, Portland brick storefront style with lots of different seating areas and funky lighting. We were seated promptly and started with rustic bread and olive oil while we decided on drinks while waiting for the rest of our party to arrive. I thought the 'by the glass' selection of wines started out a little pricey (nothing below $8.00), however we found a couple of choices of bottles for $30 and decided to go that route instead. Our party of 4 chose a mixture of appetizers and entrees to share as there were so many things we thought sounded wonderful on the menu. Hubby's pheasant special was delicious. We all enjoyed the fried calamari, daughter said her French onion soup was very good, and her friend loved the wild boar ragu. I ordered the simple salad with candied walnuts and added the optional Gorgonzola, which really made it 'pop' for me. I also had the ravioli stuffed with rabbit and was not as thrilled as the filling was dry and mealy. The hand made pasta was cooked perfectly, but I wouldn't order this dish again. The menu offered two sizes, appetizer and entree, and I would say the appetizer size was plenty generous considering I had shared an appetizer and had a salad, too. Desserts were fabulous! Molten chocolate crumble with marionberry sorbet was awesome. We also ordered a lemon coconut cake, which others said was delicious, too (I'm not a fan of coconut anything). The service was attentive and professional. The only downside was the length of time between apps/salad and entrees. We just ordered another bottle of wine and a round of the great bread and kept chatting. Otherwise it was exactly what I wanted for my birthday night on the town. We'll definitely be back!

My wife and I had dinner last week, couldn't have been better. Food and service were both outstanding. I started with the Ahi Tuna Tartare, which was over the top. Then moved on the the Anderson Ranches Osso Buco, once again perfectly done. We were seated in the front of the restaurant, the tables were well spaced, and the pace of the service was just right. Highly recommended.

I love Serratto. This was recently reinforced after departing Paley's after almost an hour of waiting to order dinner. The wait staff is terrific - attentive but not annoying (true pros). I always feel tank care of. Dining out is about being taken care of - good food AND good service delivered by a pleasant and knowledgable server. Serratto delivers. Thank you Serratto and especially Kurt ( the bar tender) - you are a rockstar!

Serrato was neither an out of the world experience nor a complete blunder - though this should all be taken with a grain of salt as my boyfriend and I were only there for happy hour. Serrato is a place that holds a great place in my heart. Years ago when I was nearly a homeless youth the owners and staff of Serratto threw the half-way house that I was staying at a holiday meal. I don't remember whether it was Thanksgiving or Christmas but I remember the meal right down to having a napkin placed in my lap. Maybe it was this expectation that granted a return visit a mere three stars. The service was not the worst I'd ever had but somehow I expected it to be something more than what it was (see above reason). Though our server made no major blunders neither did she do anything that made the experience any better. Perhaps they prefer to fall on the merits of their food. The food and drink was once again nothing spectacular. The margarita was good and even on the stronger side (a perk). We ordered the hamburger w/fries, deviled egg, and I had the rigatoni. The deviled eggs were really no different than my mothers though the flavors more subdued -topped with smoked trout that had very little smokey flavor to it. The hamburger was a hit with my boyfriend right down to the aioli (which he had asked be taken off) but it was a happy mistake in the end. The rigatoni was good but once again didn't make any lasting impression. Perhaps they don't take happy hour too seriously which is unfortunate. I've always found it nice to get to know a restaurant through their happy hour offerings (a first date of sorts) before taking the plunge for the second (more expensive) date.

How could I have neglected to rave about Serrato! This is another of my most favorite restaurants in all of Portland. If you love good food and fine wine, this is the place for you! They have the best wine selection of any place I've been. I just ask the servers for a recommendation and everything they've picked for me has been the best I've ever had. Just had a Tempranillo the other day that brought joy to my troubled soul. The flavors of the appetizers and entrees have always been wonderful. My last dining pleasure was the Halibut. It was spectacular. The atmosphere is really, really nice. There's something about it that is both really nice, artistic, high quality, and yet very comfortable. Wish I could hang out there every evening. It is a joy just to be in that space! And the service is always first rate. The servers have always been very attentive, nice, and super helpful. Serrato truly captures some of the finest joys of living and you owe it to yourself to visit!

We were here for a birthday luncheon. The service was very good, the setting and decor are excellent, and the food was good. In this city with so many stellar restaurants you really need to stand out and I'm afraid that our lunches were good not fabulous. I have been here for cocktails/appetizers and they were really, really good. So, maybe it was just lunch or our choices that fell a little short.

Great Cocktails, but salty bolgnese We went very late a couple of Saturdays ago. 30 minutes before close and the staff was very gracious. No problem for a late dinner. Cocktails were excellent and my wife really enjoyed her bouillabaise. My spaghetti was cooked perfectly but the bolognese sauce was supper salty!

Abstract: Delicious food is undermined by consistently poor service. Try another restaurant until these people get their act together. HINT: You may be waiting a very, very long time for that (and your entree). I've been to Serratto 3 times, and I swore after the second time we would not return. We broke that vow this past Sunday afternoon, and now I need to write a review to cement this restaurant's gaping flaws in my head. Ambience/Food: Serratto is a beautiful restaurant occupying a mammoth space at the corner of NW Kearney and 21st Ave in Portland. There are two doors, one on 21st, and one on Kearney; the podium is by the one on Kearney, so you have to journey a bit if you enter via 21st. The decor is simple and rustic, with clean linens and friendly host staff to seat you. They have a kids' menu, and provide crayons if you have a little one with you. Their food is quite good. On the most recent visit, I had only a chicken caesar salad and a cup of creamy tomato soup. The soup was delicious, with a subtle spice heat that lingered pleasantly on the tongue. On a cold winter day, it was a delight. The salad had nicely tangy dressing, and the chicken breast was piping hot. It wasn't grilled that I could see, but it was still good. My wife had the same soup and a butter lettuce salad that she proclaimed equally delicious. My daughter didn't really eat much of her cheese pizza, but she was being finicky at the time; we tasted it, and it was also yummy. We have had their pastas in previous visits, and found them to be tasty. I believe many are housemade, though I did not order pasta this time around. I would give the food 4 stars easily. Service: Serratto's Achilles heel is service. Simply put, the service starts well and then disappears. As I mentioned, an attentive host is ready to seat your party on entry to the restaurant, and a server is there to offer you drinks and take your order. However, the latter two times we've dined there (66% of the time, for anyone scoring at home), our food has disappeared. This most recent visit, our soups and our daughter's pizza came out simultaneously less than 10 minutes after we ordered. Our salads - items with generally short prep times, unless the lettuce is being grown while-you-sit - lagged. And lagged. After around 20 minutes' delay from when our soups were *finished*, we asked the host to check on our salads. Shortly thereafter, our waitress checked in to say they were coming up shortly. Another 5 minutes or so thereafter, they arrived. What happened here? It seemed like the dining room turned over shortly after the time we got our orders in. Did the kitchen get backed up? Unlikely; Serratto was less than 1/3 full at 1:20 PM on a Sunday. It seems more likely that our waitress either forgot to put in our salad order or forgot to ask where it was in a timely fashion in the kitchen. The piping hot chicken on my salad seemed to indicate that it had been just made rather than sitting, so I think the problem is that the order got lost. However, the waitress is at fault for not checking in with us in the entire 20 minutes that we sat twiddling our thumbs. For all we know, she forgot to put it in. She and the hostess also left my water glass empty after filling glasses at other tables around us. It's hard not to feel slighted in that situation. When the salads had arrived, they were of course comped. The salads were close to 50% of that ticket, and this was the second time we've had incredibly poor service from Serratto. The prior visit, our waiter also started out great, joking and pouring wine and bringing our appetizers quickly. But again, the entrees seemed to fall into a black hole, and while our waiter was chatting and living it up with a table full of ladies nearby, we got to sit and stew. Again, he didn't check in with us until we flagged him down, preferring the flirtatious company of the aforementioned ladies. When we asked the guy where our food was, he went to investigate and returned to sheepishly say that it was coming. When pressed, he was vague about the order getting "lost." We cancelled what didn't come, and were comped what did (this was awhile ago, so some details are fuzzy). BOTTOM LINE: How does this restaurant stay in business when there are so many superior restaurants with impeccable service in Portland? It really seems like they want to do a good job, but they just can't help themselves, and it all goes to pot if there are more than 5 tables occupied. I keep expecting to see Gordon Ramsay coming out of the kitchen for a taping of Kitchen Nightmares, cursing expansively about the servers. Wherever the breakdown is, it is significant, and it needs to be remedied. We will not return to this restaurant unless it changes ownership and the wait staff are trained properly; the quality of the food is not sufficient to excuse such poor service.

We think it's amazing and the food is always delicious but it is very expensive. We brought a bottle of champagne with us and dinner was still $165 for four people including a 12 and 14 year old. We onlyhad one cocktail and the corkage fee for the table. $13 for a starter salad and $18 for a dish of pasta seems over the top. The prices have really crept up here in the past 10 months. We used to consider ourselves regulars but we can't afford it anymore. It can also be very loud in some areas of the restaurant but it is a beautiful space and the decor and flowers are always gorgeous.

We came in here one night and we were starving. We showed up about 45 minutes before closing and you could tell the staff wasn't thrilled, but that wasn't going to stop us this night. We sat down and ordered appetizers and entrees as soon as the server approached us. The bread here is absolutely amazing. The calamari came out very quickly. And it was good. My boyfriend had the Rigatoni and it was delicious. I wanted to trade, but he wasn't having it. I had the Tagliatelle, I didn't care for it as much. However, my boyfriend devoured the left over 1/2 after he ate his Rigatoni so to say it was bad would be a lie. We had the Ricotta Cheesecake to finish. It was alright, I don't think I would care for a Ricotta Cheesecake anywhere I go so it wouldn't be fair for me to judge it. All-in-all if you want good food and quick service I would eat here. If you want friendly, personable service you should keep looking.

Lovely restaurant, waitstaff that knows what's up--Serratto is good for a casual date or a get together with friends! It's nice without being pretentious or snooty. But not too nice to suggest overly formal so it's still easy going! Been here a few times for different reasons and each time I've been happy! The different dishes are so good and the portions are satisfying (even when they look small, there's often more there than you realize/it's heartier than you think) I like coming here. I like that I'm in the area enough. They also have a happy hour that is worth checking out if you're unsure. It's cute! I'd highly recommend the burger, calamari, risotto and Lemon Drop for a drink :)

We went for dinner on Sat. night. Food was great, service was poor. Asked 1 person for a menu & he abruptly walked away, never to return. And our waiter didn't even remember to bring us some bread, yet had plenty of time to chat with coworkers. We've been here before & loved it but it let us down this time, unfortunately this time was my girlfriends birthday. I'd take the food to go because I wouldn't put up with the service again.

Upscale Italian with some American fare for the specials. Great selection of wine and grappa. Serratto's one of the few places on NW 21 that is friendly to single patrons. Bartenders are friendly and chatty. A good place to go if you're stag for the night. 4 out of 5, because of the price. The food's great, but it can get up there. For those with only a little cash, but want to dine like you're rich, the best thing to do is go there in the late afternoon, for the lunch menu.

We came to Serratto in search of a good meal for my father's birthday but weren't wow-ed. I had the french onion soup, which wasn't fantastic. I expect a french onion soup to be rich and hearty while this one was rather sweet and lacking in hearty-ness. The simple salad was really a disappointment, the vinaigrette was also lacking in any sort of bold flavours although the candied walnuts were delish. Note: When they say small portion of pasta, they really mean it. For $18, it really wasn't enough food. My brother had the burger which he reported was delicious and the frites were good too. My dad ordered the steak, which really was amazing and worth the $30. However, we had the worst service there than anywhere on our whole trip. The staff were unattentive and slow for a reasonably small dining room and not busy at that. The only good service was from the water man, our glasses were never empty. It was an ok experience but I doubt we'll be back.

Yesterday was my 20th birthday and I wanted to eat pasta, so my friends made reservations at Serratto. We ordered the Tagliatelle, Bouillabaisse, Seared Sea Scallops, Pan-Fried Quail, and Caprese. The food was good, for the most part. The tagliatelle was pretty tasteless, though the hazelnuts were really good. The Bouillabaisse, quail, and scallops were tasty and the tomatoes were super juicy. When we were all done eating, we decided we'd head over to Papa Haydn's for some dessert. When the waitress came and asked us if we wanted to order anymore food, we told her 'no' and that we were going to go get dessert. Apparently she misunderstood us because she came back with a dessert menu. When we told her we were not getting dessert, she gave us a look of annoyance and said she would bring our check. When she brought the check, we split it among four credit cards: one of my friends paid for my dish and everyone else paid for one dish each. The waitress looked irritated and said "I guess I can split it..." When she came back, she said one of the credit cards was declined so one of my friends said to put it on her card. The waitress then said "You know, I split the whole check because you wanted it split. And now I have to go back and redo it" even though she only had to make one more charge--she didn't have to re-split anything. We were all taken aback by her rudeness. When she got back, she complained again, saying: "Next time, just write the amounts because I had to split it up myself. Enjoy your dessert." Then, in a kinder tone, she said that it was no big deal... as if that suddenly negated everything she previously said. She obviously just wanted more tip. I had high expectations of Serratto. The food may have been good, but the service here was terrible. Serratto (specifically our waitress) effectively ruined my birthday dinner and I will never go back because it was such an uncomfortable experience. At least the night ended on a good note at Papa Haydn's, where the dessert and service were both great.

I'm sorry but this place stinks! The waitress here was horrible she was dumb! Where do I even begin? We started off with the calamari and seriously they used the smallest calamari that they could find. The french onion soup was ok but a little bit on the salty side. We order two entrees and the scallop was good but a little bit over cooked. I order one of the pastas and seriously I never had that much goat cheese on my pasta before that the goat cheese over powered the taste on the whole entire dish. The place is cute but seriously I had way better Italian food. I hope this is not the only Italian restaurant in the alphabet district. I would not recommend this place to anyone.

Went for a happy hour. Portions were good for happy hour. A pizza was enough to be a meal for someone. It was like 9" in diameter. The price was as usual for happy hour. The staff was friendly. I've had better happy hour food at other places, however. The quality was OK, but was not that great. Still a good place to hang out.

I have to say that this place looked good and it lived up to that reputation. When you walk in, its inviting and definately not pretentious. The layout leaves no one feeling like they got the bad seat which I like. The wicker bottom chairs or whatever they are we all agreed they should ditch since they are not comfortable. I saw other diners with padded chairs so they are the lucky ones. But I quibble here. I started with the French Onion soup baked with a seasoned crouton and the Gruyere cheese. It tasted ok and was not salty which is often an issue that many restaurants have but I thought it a bit dark and heavy. It was pleasant enough to finish but after experiencing the likes of Bouchon, I suppose its hard for anyone to ever reach that. I give this 3 stars. Its ok but nothing that made me go wow. Dinner is where things got really good. The items from our table: Roasted Muscovy duck breast with crispy polenta cakes, blistered green beans, rainbow chard & cherry demi-glace. This was a really nice portion and the polenta cakes were among the best I have had. I really loved that they were firm and crisp which really did a lot for this. The sauce was lovely and the cherries a nice touch. The chard seemed to ball up but I pretty much cleaned the plate. My friend had the Tenderloin of Painted Hills beef with potato galette, roasted summer squash and tellicherry demi-glace . He said it was perfectly cooked and tasted awesome. I have to concur with him on this one. Definately a nice dish. The other folks had the scallops and the trout though I cant really tell you much about it other than they enjoyed it. I see a few not great reviews and I wonder why their experience was not the same as mine. With refards to the onion soup, yeah that needs a remake. As to the rest, well every experience is different and I can say that mine was very good. I would like to revisit and see if they can push it up to 5 stars. I have hopes!

This was tasty, and at a reasonable price. We had the goat cheese ravioli with mushrooms, and the cavatelli (?)....or the pasta with the dungeness crab. Also, we had a lovely potato leek soup to start. I originally ordered a half order of the ravioli, but it was so good I ordered it in full! The service was good, but not exquisite. Overall though, I wouldn't mind coming back for the fresh pasta!

Back in January I wrote, "The Serrato happy hour has the best hamburger in town, hands down." I've been going to their happy hour for a couple years, drawn back by their consistently wonderful hamburger. But last night, no. In a word, awful. A dry bun that tasted like a pastry, was too doughy, might have been stale, and was completely wrong for a hamburger. And the ingredients, though they may have actually been physically unchanged (hard to tell), they were compromised by that bun. The server's explanation didn't work either: "We have a new pastry chef, and she's been trying out different recipes for the hamburger and bun. It changes every day. Yesterday's was good." Special note to ANY restaurant: don't experiment with your guests. Get it right before you serve it. There are many, many good restaurants in Portland. Once served a bad meal there is little reason to go back to see if things have improved. Better to take your chances with a new and different place.

My wife and I really enjoyed our first time here. Our main meals (monk fish and pheasant) were excellent. The mac and cheese appetizer is just okay and wouldn't order it again. We'll definitely go back and would recommend it for a nice dinner out. There is Valet parking around the corner on Lovejoy, have the restaurant validate your parking card it is $4 and you only have to walk a couple hundred feet. If we had not stumbled on this we would have been driving around a lot as there is NO street parking available.

Serratto was a very blocks from where my husband and I were staying on our Portland vacation, and our host recommended we check it out. So glad we took his suggestion. This is a really cute place with a warm, cozy atmosphere and great food. The baked mac and cheese was the best I've had in my life - rich and flavorful without tasting overly cheesy or heavy. I also had their burger and my husband got the antelope - both excellent choices cooked and flavored to perfection. For dessert we split the chocolate torte, which was delicious. Our waitress was a little on the slow side, but very friendly. We went to Serratto on our first night in town and wanted to check out new places for the rest of the trip. Now that it's over and we had the chance to try out other restaurants, I wish we had put in one more trip to Serratto.

Four of us had dinner on a Wednesday evening on a 7:30 reservation. We were seated, had cocktails, ordered appetizers, wine, and our meal. The waitress was rather brusk and business like. The food was good to very good, not out of this world. I would go back for the food, however the service really turned me off. Before we even had all finished our dinners our waitress was slapping down the dessert menu in a "lets get going" kinda way. Come 10:00 they were shooing the couple next to us out the door. The valet came in to hand them their keys and explain were their car was. They were then urged out the door. Moments later our waitress had disappeared and the bartender was basically telling us to get a move on and leave. Something to the effect that "the help is getting restless". I don't think I have even been tossed out of a restaurant, much less at 10:15 PM. Really?? I would expect more for a $200 meal for four. Bottom line: pretty good food, bad service.

I brought my boyfriend here for the happy hour, but mistakenly made a reservation which defaults to the dinner menu. Oops. We seized the moment regardless (read: too embarrassed to ask for happy hour) and ordered, despite the price. The food was a little inconsistent between the appetizer and entrees. The pomme frites were pretty crispy, but the garlic aioli was a little too overpowering to be enjoyable. Boyfriend ordered the halibut (in season) while I ordered the halibut cheeks (surprise, also in season), and we both enjoyed the sauces served with our dishes, as they perfectly complemented the halibut. He actually ate slower to savor the moment, which is very rare when it comes to him eating! My biggest qualm of the evening was the service, which was spotty at best. The dinner floor wasn't that busy, so I was surprised at the lack of attentiveness. Regardless, the halibut was splendid and worth the reservation. Everything else, eh.

My wife and I went here for a special dinner a couple of weeks ago on a very busy Saturday night. First off the atmosphere is amazing and the windows are so huge you feel as though you are outside! Very friendly staff and unbelievable food! Our meals were amazing and the desert was to die for!!! Huge wine list and you have to get a Spokane speedball coffee drink after dinner! If you want to treat yourself to a very memorable dining experience this place should be your next stop!

Hipster douche bag heaven. The tables are so crammed close together, I had to choice but to listen to the incessant drivlle that the 2 women next to me were spewing. I honestly tried to open up my wrist with the butter knife. Food was excellent and reasonably priced. Service was horrendous. Waitress seemed oblivious to me waiting for 15 minutes after I was done to ask for my check. Apparently her conversation with another table was so engrossing she couldn't at least look around to see me waiving like I was going down with the titanic. Came to table once and never saw her again. Wouldn't come back here if I was given ownership of the place

We went here for Valentine's Day and had a marvelous dinner. From the service, to flavor to ambiance, YES! I had the beef cheeks, which were simply PERFECT - my partner had the chicken and was almost licking the plate. Marvelous cocktail menu as well!

We went here with an out-of-town guest for Happy Hour. The server was friendly but forgot bits and pieces of our order. Our pizza was overly salty and greasy (I should have read the previous reviews more carefully). We expected a better piece of pie from a highly rated establishment. Also, we ordered mussels, but looking from our dish, it looked like only half an order. We ordered the mussels because other people's dishes looked appetizing and plentiful. Our dish was less than stellar and looked like it was lacking 10 mussels. Most of the shells were empty and it's not like there were meaty pieces floating on the bottom of the bowl. What happened? The server didn't mention anything not having enough inventory, otherwise we would have picked something else. At least the complementary bread was delicious, the only saving grace to the whole meal. Woo hoo! The burgers look delicious. I want to try other items, but I think others in my party don't want to give this restaurant another go-around. Is this place all hype and no gold, that I'll never know.

My wife and I were at Serratto last night for our anniversary dinner. Yeah, it was Monday, but the staff seemed to be trying to interact with us as little as possible. The noise and music was too loud to allow for much conversation. Good bread and my 4 scallops ($25) were very nice, but the pesto pasta accompanying them was inedible. And don't bother with the gelato. I felt iSorrentto was not competitive with other restaurants in that price range. Today, I am still feeling angry about the experience, and I won't be going back.

We went here for my birthday last week. As far as Italian food goes I was not very impressed. We ordered the clams and the calamari to start and they were both good. Not outstanding but not bad either. I had the beet salad and that was quite disappointing. The greens were soggy and completely overdressed. The beets tasted canned and not fresh. I didn't really see anything on the menu that looked interesting so I opted for the burger. It was a really, really good burger but whatever, this is supposed to be a nice Italian/Med restaurant. 4 out of 8 of us actually ordered the burger. I tried my friend's pasta and it wasn't very tasty at all. For the price you could do much better. Not to mention the hassle of parking in NW on a Saturday night. The service was horribly slow. Our waiter was nice enough but we could hardly track him down for drink refills or bread. He basically just disappeared after serving our food.

I met a friend here for happy hour, but I had visited years ago for dinner. I remembered my previous visit being very positive: great service, lovely decor, and tasty food. So, when my friend suggested it for happy hour, I immediately jumped on board. It remains a very lovely restaurant, but I felt a bit like a redheaded step child coming in for happy hour. The wait staff, while satisfactory, wasn't exactly giving off a warm vibe. The food and drinks were similarly adequate. To be fair, happy hours tend to be a limited menu of small dishes, so it is difficult to judge the entire operation by the happy hour experience. As I said, my memory of dinner there from years before was a good one, but I couldn't help but be a little disappointed that this visit ended up being pretty mediocre.

Wow. We were here for Happy Hour and had the $6 Rigatoni, $5 lamb albondigas, and $5 french onion soup. All of it was amazing. The rigatoni in particular was the best we'd ever had - excellent spicing and flavor, everything fresh as it could be. The decor is lovely - rustic repurposed wood for the most part. We'll be back.

Great experience. Nice charcuterie plate, delicious French onion soup and kale/grapefruit/fennel salad, and the braised boar pappardelle was one of the best dishes I've had in recent memory. Attentive service, cozy but busy atmosphere... What more do you want from a night out? Highly recommended.

Serratto has grown on me, as clearly evidenced by my spontaneous star-vomit. (Am I allowed to say vomit as a prelude to a delicious food review? Sure. No one reads the preface anyway...) Here's a phrase for the new review roundup feature: Happy Hour. Everyday. As in, it's Saturday and I indulged in far too much food for far too little money. Holy rigatoni, they really emphasize the "happy" in that phrase...especially if your happiness trigger is directly linked to your stomach, like mine is. For $6 or less you can get anything from a bacon burger with fries, a selection of enormous wood fired pizzas, french onion soup with gruyere, muscles, rigatoni with italian sausage, a beat, pear and goat cheese salad...hungry yet? I'm not even a quarter of the way through the menu. It's truly madness. And unlike most HH joints, the drinks are special price as well: $4 for a selection of whites or reds and $5 for margaritas, lemon drops, cosmos, or martinis. Really? really? 4 people, 4 drinks, 4 happy hour orders and tons of leftover food on the table for $41? While at first I passed Serratto off as a tourist/corporate credit card trap,I can't hide my love any longer -- especially when I find myself sneaking over there once a week. 4 people -- $41. $41.

I need to come back here! I hate that my first experience here was with a guy who was too cheap to order an appetizer or full sized entree. My little pasta was delicious! I wanted to eat so much more. I will be back for more, Serratto. You were exquisite.

Mmmm Serratto. Ridiculousness in the form of Italian food. The last time I was here was many years ago and I'd completely forgotten what the menu was like. Til a few days ago. Holy shit. I had the butternut squash ravioli and the bf had the smoked scallops. We downed a bottle of tasty wine and then had cheesecake and carrot cake for dessert. Then I rolled my ass out of there and promptly passed out in our hotel room...for about 45 minutes...til I was rudely awoken to the sounds of stupid people (see Jupiter review). Still, my full belly was happy.

I believe I've found my latest food spot -- Serratto. We leisurely strolled into the restaurant without waiting to be seated. Found a lovely spot in the loft area in the back of the restaurant. There were lots of couples sitting by the windows hoping to be seen, but we decided for the loft because it was quiet and the lighting made it inviting. We sat for awhile before a waitstaff stopped and asked if we've been serviced. We indicated we seated ourselves. He promotely finished serving the party in the private dining and brought a waitress to serve us. It was a lovely guesture, especially since we didn't notify anyone. Our waitress was extremely friendly, she always ensured we were left alone when eating, and popped up in time to fill up our wine and water. I had one of the most delicious salad ever -- tabbuouleh; along with an extremely spicy tomato puree soup. They brought us a cesar salad big enough to be a main meal. We ended the dinner with the cavatelli. It was amazing. We ate so much there was hardly space for dessert. Highly, highly, recommend.

My sister and I stopped in here for lunch on a Thursday afternoon while visiting Portland. We each had a small salad and shared the steamed clams. Everything was excellent, especially the Caesar salad and homemade bread! The inside is so quaint and inviting we decided to change our Friday night dinner plans and come here for my sister's birthday! We were so happy we did! The dinner was amazing, service was superb, excellent wine list, everything we could have hoped for! We started with bread, french onion soup and another Caesar salad. All were delicious! For dinner we had seared scallops with lentils, crab stuffed ravioli with proseco cream sauce and the special of the night - sturgeon with smoked potatoes. Everything was beautifully prepared and tasted like heaven. For dessert we had the creme brulee which was also excellent and they presented it with a candle for my sister's birthday. We had a fun, flavorful, memorable time here! Thank you Serratto for making my sister's birthday dinner so special!

The trout and especially the pappardelle with boar off the lunch menu are out of this world. The waiter was a little loopy and didn't hear one of our orders but the quality of the food more than made up for this.

I think 3.5 stars might be better. Been here a couple of times and always enjoyed my food. Usually end up with some type of pork and pasta dish. The food is always good but I wouldn't say wow. I do expect we will go back again. I haven't tried the roasted chicken so that's a good reason to go back. It is a great looking venue and location. Nice date night place and good for walking around afterward. They do have a good wine list to pick from.

Popped in for happy hour. This place is nothing special, the service is NOT good and the food was just OK. The margarita was one of the worst I've had in a long time. Had good company - but I brought that with me! Not going back parking is rough, service is BAD, food noth'in special, and their drinks YUCK

We come here regularly for lunch and dinner. They have some great pasta dishes and delicious salads with fresh, seasonal ingredients. One of my favorite things about their lunch menu is their sandwiches on brioche buns. They have outdoor seating for those nice sunny days.

Serratto, Serratto, my heart sings for you! Lovely atmosphere, the lemonade was delicious, the falafel fritters were great, the pickled mustard seed upon which my falafel fritters were set was insane. Caviar'ish even. The falafel itself was just okay but the presentation with the delicious beet chips, the bread and service was all excellent.

A jolly good place. We went early with the kids who are quite picky eaters. We had pizza from the kids menu but started with the trattoria plate and the lamb meatballs, both of which were enjoyed by all. My wife is on a very restrictive diet and had the roasted salmon with specially requested blanched vegetables. I am on the "see food diet" (I see food, I eat it) and had the lamb shank with couscous. The pizzas were reportedly good, as was the salmon and vegetables. The lamb shank was generous and well prepared, with a gorgeous meaty flavour and soft butter texture. Initially I thought the couscous had been undercooked, but then realised that chopped nuts had been added, creating a delicious crunchy texture. Delicious. I was hoping to savour the bread pudding for desert (I've never met a bread pudding I didn't like), but sadly I was... how can I put it nicely...? Stuffed. Yes. Valet parking $4 with validation in the lot around the corner.

I came here for an anniversary dinner and was very plesantly surprised. Great ambiance and vibe. The antipasti platter was awesome. I had the boulliabase--perfect. My date had the steak with bacon relish. So good. I can't wait to come back to try other things. The chocolate cobbler interests me but I couldn't possibly fit another bite.

Food is not bad, the atmosphere is nice and our service was average (a little less attentive than I would have expected. I had the roasted halibut, it was slightly on the dry side but the flavor was pretty good. The Osso Buco was better but slightly on the sweet side. For $30 an entree I'll be a bit more picky, 3.5 stars. Mingo next door is better if you don't mind the wait.

We recently tried this restaurant for the first time last week after reading the reviews on Yelp. We have kids, so the fact that they had a kid's menu was a bonus, because that tells us that kids are welcome... Most 'nice' places aren't really set up for kids, and there's plenty of family-friendly restaurants, but most of them are a little loud and not great ambiance. Serrato is an upscale place that is set up with a more intimate/romantic couple's-type feeling, and the other end seems to be geared towards family dining. The high ceilings, floor to ceiling windows, warm lighting and lots of exposed wood beams create a very comfortable atmosphere. The service was good. The waitress was friendly and addressed the kids directly - they like feeling like they're included, so that was nice. Drink glasses were refilled promptly, bread was brought out early, and food didn't take long either. The children's menu selections were good and inexpensive, and tasty! The adult food was also quite good. I had salmon and it was great. We skipped dessert because we had our hearts set on St Cupcake. My fish was $25, and there were things on the menu that cost more, but then there's pizza and burgers on the menu for less than $15. This place isn't cheap, but a great option when you are looking for upscale family dining or even a romantic couple's dinner.

Beautiful restaurant nested in Nob Hill serving lunch and dinner. Tall and wide window panes pour natural light into the space. Great place to gaze out the window and relax on a Friday afternoon. Huge wine selection, full bar and cocktail menu. Had the flank steak salad with butter lettuce and almonds. A wonderful salad, but just slightly overloaded with dressing (keep in mind, I love to drench my salads in dressing to a point of embarrassment., so too much dressing is a rare moment for me.) The manfriend had the chicken breast sandwich with avocado, bacon, tomato and lettuce and it was a hit at our table. Service was polite and kind, but a tad off. We had to wait between every transition throughout the meal. Overall, we had a relaxing and wonderful dining experience. Would go back again.

Similar to other recent reviewers, my wife and I were let down by Serratto. We were vacationing in Portland, and had dinner here based on their 4 star rating. The beet salad and wine were good, as well as the environment. But their service and entrees left a lot to be desired. The rigatoni was overcooked and the pizza was burned.

I stopped by this last Friday to try a bite of food and a glass of wine at the bar. I was able to quickly get a seat and the bartender was very friendly and helpful (even though it was busy). He helped me select the manilla clams and a butter lettuce salad. The salad had nice presentation but needed a bit more flavor, like a little bit of blue cheese would have made it sparkle. The clams had a great flavor but I got 6 bites with sand and they were slightly overcooked. I had a rose and sauvignon blanc by the glass and both wines went well with my food. Due to the personality of the bartender, I would give their food another try.

This was a hard one..cause I think I'll review when I got back, but I WILL go back. I got off early on Friday and we decided to do a little "urban hiking" That's what I call a on foot HH exploration. We went to another place first but they only had drinks, so we sipped our cocktails and moved on. I've always wanted to come here and looky here they have a decent HH. The place was super crowded, so we were seated at the little wine bar, which wasn't the most comfy by it allowed to eavesdrop on the servers mighty good fun, and we were in the middle of everything in this busily buzzing place. I got a margarita ($5) which was well balanced but could have used just a tad more tequila. my honey got the house red which was spicy with a nice berry finish. on a side note - their wine list is extensive and fab, but I love me a good kick you in the face super Tuscan or a nice Chianti. My second drink was a cosmo ( ya ya i know, but I've been drinking them like forever, waaay before SITC) so i asked for mine, tart and really light pink. which it was, and i loved that the server didn't give me tude about that. it was delicious. so the food. The list was healthy for a place that doesn't get a large amount of press on HH. We had the lamb, burger, and shrimp. let's start with the shrimp. it was perfectly, i mean perfectly grilled. there was a spicy oil as an accompaniment and it was a lovely dish which we very much enjoyed. if they can do their seafood like that constantly I will always come here. The lamb - beautiful little balls of yumm..i made nom nom noises and a happy dance ( that's when you know I'm pleased) The tzatziki was a lovely pairing, unusual but very lovely with a heavy mint flavor. The burger - a painted hills patty grilled up at a perfect medium. The meat and bun were fantastic, the onion straws for me didn't add anything and the BBQ was tasty but didn't really do anything. it was still an honestly tasty burger, juicy and flavorful on its own. I took the onion straw off and ate them on my own which was just as good. The pommes frites were as expected, very nicely done shoe strings. It was great first stop on our urban exploring. oh! in viewing additional tips, we actually did see several tables with children, I must preface that with extremely well behaved children. enough said.

I hadn't been to Serrato in a while and I forgot how good it was! This time I had the Idaho trout over barley. It was delicious to say the least. The atmosphere inside is really nice and this is the perfect place if you want an upscale, but not snotty, dining experience. One thing to note though, although there is a pasta dish or two, this is more of a northern Italian restaurant.

The afternoon of Dec 22nd my mom and I went to Serratto, as has been our tradition for our "mom/daughter" dates. Unfortunately, we probably are going to change our restaurant choice in the future. We were greeted by their hostess who needs receive either a lesson in what it means to be a "host" or change her job title to something that is more accurate, because welcoming she was not. We were shepherded to a table and given water. I noticed both water glasses were filled with dust and crumbs. It wasn't a huge deal, but pointed it out the hostess who was still near our table, I apologized and asked if could have new glasses of water. Her response? "It's just bread crumbs." And then picked up the glasses in a huff. She returned in a few moments with new glasses of water and, I am not exaggerating, SLAMMED them both down on the table and walked away without saying anything. My mom and I starred at each other in disbelief. We considered leaving, but were so hungry, we stayed. Our server did little to help the situation, and maintained the icy attitude the hostess had begun. My mom and I both felt highly uncomfortable in a restaurant with a staff that seemed to dislike both of us, and left as soon as we finished eating. I write all of this here because, this place has usually been where my mom and I have a wonderful time. This experience was extremely disappointing, because the memory my mom have of our one lunch date while I'm in town is of us just wanting to leave.

After hearing about Serratto from my husband I looked it up on Yelp of course and perused their menu on line and decided I had to try it out as since I was beginning to salivate. Hubby and I checked in for happy hour, arriving early to ensure a table. To our luck it was empty (I know odd huh as it was a Friday afternoon and beautiful out). We had superb service, an empty glass never lasted but a minute. The wine list is impressive and the happy hour $5 drink specials were drinks I actually liked rather than some crazy concoction (margarita, lemon drop and cosmo). In case none of that has sparred your interest, let me talk a little about the food. We ordered 3 items (hummus plate, the cheeseburger and the pizza of the day) and were so full I could not order dessert-which for me is odd as I always stop eating to leave room for something sweet but I could not stop as the food was too good. The hummus was nice and garlicky and served with flat-bread made in- house in their clay oven-so fresh you could tell. The burger was the perfect amount of meat, cheese (white-cheddar), BBQ sauce and crispy onion strips. For me the real treat was the pizza. OMG, but really, OMG! Roasted boar, which I was thinking really, but yes, really it was so good. The meat was shredded and had the slightest gamy taste but more importantly was juicy and tender and was the perfect match on a pizza also topped with blue cheese and peppers. We will definitely go back, I mean I have a dessert menu to explore.

The Painted Hills Burger is the reason I love to eat here. I have had other items on the menu but this hamburger is the best that I have had in the short (5 months) time I have spent in Portland. I hate here within the past week with my wife. We both had a hamburger along with some good draft beer. I like the fact the draft beer is only $3 during happy hour (4 pm to 6 pm). Service on this occasion was very good which has usually been our experience. I definitely would recommend this place. I know when I have family members visit that this will be one of my top choices to bring them as long as they are in the mood for a hamburger!

Serratto, Chef Meyer, my hat's off to you. Your lamb Osso Bucco was amazing. Served with spaetzle, mushrooms and a nut gremolata in the must luxurious sauce. Never have I had so much flavor in an Osso Bucco, the entire dish melded perfectly and that nut gremolata added an amazing texture interest. This dish will stand out to me as one of the best I've had. The Kale salad was money as well, yes- it was a simple dish but on point with a very nice dressing. I could come back every night and do this meal over again and again.

We are here now. First the French onion soup was all oil. I an all oil, wi th barely.any cheese, no flavor and lots more oil. And no savory flavor whatsoever. Their olive oil for the begining bread had no seasonings. Just straight olive oil. The bread was 98% crust. Hard, unchewable crust. Our entrees arrived after 37 minutes, cold. We sent them back, it took over 10 minutes to rewarm it. Still cold. With very small hot spots barely hot. The gravy on my chicken, broccolini, mashed potato plate was absolutely divine and delicious. Too bad it was ice cold. I wouldn't complain about the fact that the most details when I'm completely mashed but the gravy was so good that I didn't really care. This place left such a horrible feel for the town, that we are leaving the town entirely before finding something to eat. When we asked the waitress for the manager, the manager came and tried to play it off like "the meal is cold because you have 1 cold ingredient sprinkled over the top, which was only the one plate of rigatini. Doesn't explain my plate still being cold." Our waitress was very nice up until we sent our french onion soup back. After that, she became snooty and literally you could tell that she wanted nothing to do with us. The only reason that this place is getting to stars instead if 1 is because, they comped our food, and we paid for the drinks. Which u can't screw up wine and soda. So that was no prob. Not a good experience here. :/ Which is sad because she really wanted to like this place. We kept giving chances hoping that it would be an incredible meal after a few - Negatives the beginning. But no bueno. There was a giant fly that kept playing around my place and I hate it. And there was a miniature fly flying around my boyfriends plate. Random annoyance.

This place is good. Some items were much better than others. I would go back Beet salad, sooo good!! 9/10 Tuna tartar 6.5/10 Wild boar with red wine reduction, surprisingly gamey tasting 7/10 Draper valley chicken 8/10 Duck confit, the skin is awesome and the meat is tender! Meat is slightly under-seasoned however 7/10 Creme brûlée 7/10

Wow. What a wonderful surprise! The tastiest food I enjoyed this trip to Portland. The caprese was the best I have ever had. The tomatoes were the deepest red I have ever seen, and delicious. The braised rabbit lasagna was also a really nice surprise.

I have not been here for a very long time, so was looking forward to a return. I would like to give this a 3.5, but the software will not allow me to do that. There were 6 of us for a birthday. The service started a bit sloppy, but improved. It may have helped when I ordered a full bottle of wine. By the way, the wine list is pretty good and we had a nice white to go with the meal on a hot summer day. Three of us ordered the wild boar pasta. It was very good and the meat was tender. They enjoyed it. I ordered the sea scallops; it was also good. Unfortunately, two ordered the French Dip; this is Draper Farm beef, so it is good, but they over cooked it and the au jus was bland. These two grew up on good beef, so know it and enjoy it. It was very disappointing. The creme brulee was excellent. One came free for the birthday girl. The other dessert was good. We enjoyed the meal, but with over-cooked beef, it was a bit of a disappointment. I suspect we will try it again, since the other dishes were good to very good.

Antipasta platter - two types of meat: a prucitto and a salumi, two cheese: one I could distinguish as blue cheese and the other was a lot lighter, two types of mustard, little pickes and pickled onions.. Beet Salad - sweet beets! Good salad with shaved fennel and an oil based dressing. I also enjoyed this dish. Pappardelle with Boar - this one was a great disappointment... the noodles were hand pulled, which was cool, but they were cooked unevenly. Some part were still too raw and the texture wasn't right. The boar itself came in large chunks and too many were inedible, dry, and tough. The sauce was meh and didn't really infuse into the noodles. Really disappointing. Overall, this place was ok. I liked the atmosphere and the decor of the restaurant. It's a pretty big place, but I would recommend Caffe Mingo down the street instead.

Well, I returned to the restaurant this time with my girlfriend to see if the first time was a fluke, I am happy to report it was not. I called ahead to make reservations and as a wheelchair user, I confirmed that the accessible side entrance would be open. We arrived 6 minutes late yet our hostess met us at the door and escorted us to our table. Now here is where small things are big deals, one chair had been removed and the table prepared in ADVANCE for a wheelchair user. This seemingly small action shows thought, respect, and class...NICE TOUCH! I have been a wheelchair user for almost 32 years and I can count on my hands, minus a couple of fingers how many times this has happened. The food and service were excellent once again. I had the scallops (again, I may go broke eating them) while the Girlfriend had the Rigatoni. I did hear mention of a "secret menu" discussed, ask your server for details.

I got their special pizza of the night and though it was good, it was really pricey. My favorite thing of all time from here was their kale salad though, I will definitely be making this from now on!!! So incredible! They have a lot of really nice wines as well. I would come here for lunch again- just for the kale salad alone.

45 min + wait for food unfriendly hostess, very average food. A great location and attractive interior didn't make up for it.

Terrific happy hour, fun, trendy, delicious and kid friendly for our 6 year old. It's more rare than not to find a high quality food experience in a hip fun environment that is kid friendly, but this had it. Great Waiter (tony), burger was amazing, so was the pasta. The wild boar appetizer was just ok, calamari was good, but nothing unique, and the spaghetti another winner. overall food was 4 star (v good) but ambiance l, service and happy hour bumped it up. Also we only stuck to happy hour menu.

Great spot for happy hour in Portland! We were very happy with the menu, there was a nice selection of options to choose from. We had the salad, the burger, and spaghetti. All were really tasty. The decor was warm and inviting - and the service was great!

Pros: The food is amazing. The atmosphere is classy/casual. Great happy hour menu (4-6 daily). Cons: Lots of fruit flies. Not-so-friendly staff.

I think Serratto is underrated. It seems like every-other review starts with the following - "we were on our way to Cafe Mingo and . . ." Well, I for one think Serratto deserves a visit irrespective of other dinner plans. I know that is a rather bold thing to say, especially when considering the richness of Italian eateries in NW Portland - but Serratto is really good. Aside from the great food - they do braised meats really well and the salads (i.e., Beet Salad - GRRReat!) are fresh and inviting - the atmosphere at Serratto is open and inviting. I've gone on a number of occasions over the years and this last visit was the first time I felt compelled to write a review. Why? Well I was just so pleasantly surprised with the quality of the meal and the tone of the service. It was a great evening out. A couple of things to consider - (1) get the antipasto salad, it is great and the meats are just delicious; (2) order the Pommes Frites. I know - French Fries at an Italian restaurant?! They are so good. In fact, at our four top table, we all ordered a bunch of different items - one being the burger and fries. He offered a french fry and I immediately asked the server for an order of my own. Enough said.

5 stars all around! Serratto was a highlight of our stay in Portland. The neighbourhood it is located in is super cute. We sat outside, it was a beautiful warm night. I'm a huuuuge caesar salad fan and Serratto's is definitely one of the best. Our wine was amazing, the Cantine Valpane "Euli" 2011. My boyfriend had the pappardelle, and I had the rigatoni. Both were great, but the rigatoni was the best! Delicious. The service was top-notch. We are still thinking about that amazing meal and dreaming of our next trip to Portland. :)

Sunday spontaneity at Serratto. Walking gave us all a good appetite and we weren't disappointed. I ordered the French Dip; it was exceptional. Everyone helped with my fries. I'll be back soon...

Just went there and had a great meal. The staff is great. They are friendly, but don't smother you, they are attentive but are not ruining your conversation. Now for the food, for the apps we had: Calamari and Pommes Frites, for our salad we had the Kale Salad and Caesars, then we had the Pappardelle Braised Wild Boar pasta dish and the Seared Sea Scallops for dinner. May I just say perfection. They have a distinguished wine selection, some very fine wines and hard to get wines for those who know wine, they also have traditional restaurant wines, but there forte is their knowledge and depth in this category. A must try in Portland! We will be back.

This is one of my favorite Italian restaurants in Portland! In the summer, they have some outdoor seating, but it's been too hot for that! I ordered the Caesar Salad with the Pappardelle! It was DELICIOUS! The atmosphere is great for groups or couples, whatever you want this is a must try Italian restaurant! I have yet to have a bad meal and always feel comfortable referring Serrato to my friends!

Service was good- especially because we were talking intently and intimately during the entirety of the evening. I appreciated that the server let us take our time ordering, let us lingered over appetizers and hardly bothered us until it was time to bring the check. In some cases this could be irritating, but in our case, it was perfectly timed and they seemed to be very intuitive. I had the ahi tartare, which was lovely- beautiful and flavorful. My only complaint was the dessert, which was bland and unexciting. Cheesecake was uninspired, and the creme brulee wasn't the best I've ever had.

We went here after not being able to get into Mingos..this place seemed just as good to me having not been to either one. My friends and I all got the Margherita pizza, which was very good. We shared two bottles of wine but the Nebbiolo that we had was very very good. We all liked that the best. The waiter was attentive and patient and friendly. I liked the place. The salad to me wasn't anything special..was a lot of lettuce..ah well. Overall we had a great experience there! :)

My bf and I went here the other night and I was disappointed. I ordered the butter lettuce salad and the vinaigrette was sour and the salad was bland and pretty boring. I love butter lettuce too so I was hoping for a good one. After the recommendation from our waitress, I ordered the braised Wild Boar pappardelle and it was dry and flavorless. The boar was really dry, it was braised too long and it was in huge chunks. I would have preferred it smaller bites and more moist. My bf got the kale salad and that was better than mine. He also got the chicken and they accommodated him with his special requests for potatoes and veggies. He said the check was good and he did eat it all. Our drinks were NOT stiff either, I am pretty sure mine was straight tonic. No vodka. Our waitress was super friendly and the location was desirable. We sat next to the open window on a warm night so it was nice. That is what saved this place for me from receiving one star. I may return but will definitely try something else on the menu and maybe order wine versus a mixed drink. I wont completely give up on this place due to the service and potential.

6:15 reservation was seated at 6:30 that's to be expected on a busy night. Had the March dining month Prix fix $29 3 course meal. Very tasty choices the (pork cheeks is the better of the two) I had the French Onion soup, it was really good ( must have) the only weak spots were the carrot cake for desert, it was good but, I'm like...I can have this at a work pot luck, why would I have it at a Italian restaurant and the seats are very uncomfortable. Service was nice and pleasent. All and all good restaurant, very consistent, great well prepared food and a romantic setting. Great first date spot.

For happy hour we liked the candied walnut salad, spaghetti with pork and lamb Bolognese and French onion soup. Menu looks a little Italian, French and Mediterranean. French country Decor. Large bar and dining spaces, windows looking out on the alphabet district / 21st st. Very cool mezzanine seating too. Street side tables. Casual to upscale works. Buys from many local sources, i.e., Sauvie islands and Hood River produce. For meat uses Carman, Newman and Painted Hills ranches. While wine is the thing here you can still get a really good local beer, like the Workhorse IPA from Laurelwood. Food, service, decor and location--- such conviviality is A++++ Alphabet district. I'll be back for lunch or dinner!

I was very disappointed in my experience. This restaurant had been touted as one of the best gluten free fine dining experiences in Portland, so I purchased a gift certificate at a benefit event. Not only is there not a gluten free menu, there are few choices. The server was not knowledgeable, clearly giving me incorrect information on his first verbal round of GF options. By the end of his short list, I did not trust that I could safely eat here. Happy hour cocktails were very good and are the way to go; the quinoa peppers on the appetizer menu also were tasty. Skip the main dish and have dinner somewhere else.

I'm so sad to say that the service at Serratto's seriously sucks.(Say that five times fast!) The service has been in a slow decline over the last decade that I've been dining there, but this night in particular was the slowest, most insincere service I've ever had. While our server was busy constantly standing and chatting with her team mates at the service terminal, I was pouring the wine for my out of town guests. Maybe it was our request for two checks at a table of four, or the dairy allergy that bothered her too much to ever return to our table, only except to offer us dessert. What I'm infuriated by is the fact that we never received a single check back, or rather the simple question of whether or not we were enjoying our entrees and if they had in fact, been prepared correctly. And if she would have inquired, she would have then had to deal with our issues of extremely chewy, overcooked duck, a bowl of dry, clumpy pasta, and a curiously bland risotto. So perhaps it is better that she didn't ask. Because we had waited so long (almost 45 minutes) for our meals to arrive, that after a few disappointing bites and countless, shameless attempts to catch her attention, we gave up. and gave into our hunger. My unimpressed guests left me feeling embarrassed for assuring them that their choice to dine there was a good call. It's the last time I ever settle for Serratto, or recommend this place to anyone I even slightly like.

Ten of us came this evening for my girlfriend's birthday dinner. I shall be quick and upfront with my review. The three star review was attributed solely to the service. Our waiter never connected with us. He remained aloof. We were ordering $32 entrees rich in smoke flavor and tomatoes that he said should pair with a sauvignon blanc... For example. I am no foody expert but this was actually a horrific pairing. It was, however, the most expensive wine glass on the menu. We had to order a proper pairing after tasting the two together. (No, we didn't send the other back.) When I waited over 20 minutes for my check, I raised my hand at him, and he literally shook his head at me, as if to say, no... I can't help you right now.... Basically, the vibe all of us ladies got was.... "my 18% is already included, so I don't need to actually connect with any of you!" The food was awesome! The service took a lot of that away. It is unfortunate!

Hands down, my favorite restaurant in the world. I lived in Central Oregon for four years and drove to Portland every month to visit Serratto. The staff is amazing, the food is amazing, and quite simply, they consistently deliver great service and great wine/food. Tony, the Chef should be famous. GO THERE.

The food was good, I ordered the french onion soup, the wild boar parpadelle, and the sea scallops. I didn't really enjoy the wild boar parpadelle and they took it off my bill without me even having to ask! What service does that anymore? The food was good, just wasn't exactly to my tastes, so I wasn't expecting them to remove it off my bill. If that isn't customer service, I don't know what is! I will definitely be back to try some more as the sea scallops were fresh and delicious! It's a cute restaurant with large windows and a beautiful huge mirror near the rear of the place. Atmosphere is definitely really nice and I would take customers/suppliers here for work if needed.

Grilled artichoke 4 star Braised boar pappardelle pasta 3 stars Salmon salad 2 stars Average =3 stars Maybe there is a certain magical fish combo that equals 5 stars.... We did not order those menu items. I also have no idea what they would be. There were specials not on the menu I overheard the waitress telling another table after we ordered. She never told us what they were and they sounded good. The grilled artichoke with some sort of peach colored aioli was so yummy! Perfectly roasted and split in half with that for lack of other words ... De-haired. No creepy cream colored hair in the center. Which makes it easy to eat the heart of the artichoke. (Best part) but the whole thing could have used a bit more lemon. It did come with a small slice of lemon but not enough for my preference. The pasta was ok... My husband ordered it as his main course. She didn't ask if he wanted the small size or the large. He forgot to say small, we received the large. Too much food and he ended up taking half of it home. He describes it as rustic.... Huge slices of cheese and a chunk of boar with hazel nuts (which seems random). He said it was overall just ok. The salmon salad was pretty looking but that's about all. Salmon was dry and black and you could only taste burnt. If the menu had said blackened salmon that would have been one thing.... Large while leafs of butter lettuce adorned the plate and also had hazelnuts and radishes. For some reason I'm not a fan if cutting my own lettuce (that's what I pay the kitchen to do) I almost sent it back but it took so long to make I just sucked it up and ate it vowing to never order it again. Not sure we will be coming back anytime soon.

Yelp is usually pretty reliable, but once in a while it has pointed me to a few forgettable places. Serratto happens to be one of those disappointments. The kale salad was decent, but both service and spaghetti were just the opposite. Kale Salad: This is a decent chopped salad. It's amazing how many restaurants destroy salad with overpowering dressing, but the vinaigrette used here was just right. The diced apple along with the vinaigrette gave this dish a refreshing taste. Spaghetti: Spaghetti Bolognese is not meant to be a cold pasta dish. It was probably left on the pass for way too long, but I had to downgrade the rating regardless of flavor or texture.

What a charming little place. Came here on a Friday night with my bf. Got seated right away as a walk in about 9pm. I love the ambiance and overall vibe of the restaurant, but have mixed feelings about everything else. The food was just okay for me. I ordered the french onion soup for a starter, my boyfriend ordered the boar pasta & I order the rigatoni. My french onion came and it looked delicious. Now I Love french onion soup so I always get super excited when I see it on a menu. However, there were two large pieces of bread in my soup, which is fine because I do like croutons in my French onion, however the pieces were so dense and thick they kind of just soaked up the soap, so I ended up eating wet bread and lots of onion.. A bit disappointing. My boyfriend loved the boar pasta. It was very flavorful. My rigatoni was ok. The pasta was al dente. The sauce was a bit on the tangy side for me, but it had a nice spice to it. The cheese wasn't fully melted into it so I was eating bites of mozzarella. But maybe it was supposed to be that way? The service was overall great. My bf & I drink tons of water & they kept our glasses full throughout dinner. Overall this place is a solid 3.5. But sadly there were some disappointing notes.

Stopped in here because Cafe Mingo next door was full. This place was busy too, but is large with a lot more tables. Despite the size, the L shaped layout around the open kitchen still makes it feel fairly intimate and the decor is light and inviting. While we there, the kitchen was producing quite a lot of aromatic smoke that was definitely invading the dining room, but rather than being unpleasant, it actually added to the atmosphere. We started by splitting a full order of the rabbit ravioli. Definitely the best plate of the evening. It was tremendous. The aromatics emanating from the large bowl were wonderful and inviting, the pasta had a nice bite, and the broth was rich, textured and full in the mouth, without being unctuous or creamy. In fact, after we ran out of bread to soak up the broth, I ate the rest of it like a soup. So good! For our entrees we ordered the beef tenderloin with roasted cauliflower and marble potatoes and the duck with cheesey polenta and Brussels sprouts. Of the two, the duck was by far the better dish, classic, balanced, beautiful and full of flavor. Unfortunately though it was served on a cold plate and was therefore only luke warm when it got to us. The tenderloin was served on a very hot, large pasta plate / bowl, but was not at all what we were expecting. Filling the bowl, and covering (almost drowning) the vegetables was a think, spicy, creamy, orange/pink sauce that felt more Indian than Mediterranean. Maybe it was North African inspired? It was tasty, but it was way too heavy and rich, and dominated the plate such that the beef became a relatively bland sideshow in comparison. Prices were in line with expectations for Portland. Service was excellent. Overall definitely worth a visit, and if they still have it on the menu, order the rabbit ravioli.

Beautiful interior, really great service, tasty dishes all around! The fries appetizer was a bit dissappointing, the fries were so thin and a little too crunchy for my taste. Also, would have gone better with a different dipping sauce. The bread was pretty amazing though! Everyone really enjoyed the salads and pasta dishes. A nice place to go if you don't mind paying higher prices.

Great ambiance and food for a romantic date! I agree with the other reviewers that the calamari was too salty, otherwise it was tender and flavorful. The bouillabaisse contained some of the best mussels I've ever tasted and the wild boar parpadelle was delicious. The restaurant will validate parking for half off, if you park in the specific lot nearby. Service is a little slow, so take your time and enjoy your meal with your date.

*Serratto is a safe play to make for Happy Hour and low key dates* Happy Hour:] Daily from 4p to 6p, more then 10 food options to pick from, $5 for house red and white wine, a few crafted cocktails, and discounts on well drinks. is this real life? The menu changes, or at least it has in the last 3 time I have gone for HH. I have had the joy of trying a lot of the menu items, and the one thing I can't visit without ordering; the Painted Hills Hamburger -this is a delight for burger lovers, a great deal, a thick patty of beef blanketed in crispy fried onion straws, tucked into the burger bed with bacon and aioli sause, such a satisfying order. I find the Happy Hour menu to be very satisfying a few glasses of house red wine, a pizza of the day to share, another dish and if it's cold out -a cup of their french onion soup makes for a perfect relaxed evening. 4 Stars:] The service is great, I think being seated personally rather than the "seat yourself method" keeps the establishment running smoothly and Serratto's is a reflection of that. Some of the food has run hit and miss, while some things are excellent, other items need a little more love. Honorable Mention:] Creme Brulee: visible vanilla beans, a thick, and creamy custard and a spoon equipped to reach every rounded corner of the ceramic dish, watch out as tongues go wagging and I arise with custard on my nose. yums! I had ordered a favorite stable of mine -the Calamari- it came out looking amazing, however the texture was very rubbery, I had hardly touched the dish, and when the server asked how it was I just replied "It's different..." I was not expecting her to do much about it, since I am no one to judge calamari. However when out check came she removed the dish from my tab without my request. I really appreciated that. It was a kind gesture, I didn't think I made a formal complaint about the dish but she made my night that much better. -Street Parking- close, yet far enough away from busy 23rd avenue that there isn't too much of a problem -Sit by the window- they are big and let in lots of natural light, but people watching. -Save room for dessert- duh!

I took the kids recommendation on a recent evening in Portland and we all went to this place to have dinner. We got seated immediately and had good service the entire evening. The place has a pretty decent menu that features very fresh ingredients. Since were in Oregon I don't suppose it's politic to call it California cuisine but it certainly fits the bill. We had a nice moderately priced red wine with dinner. Everyone's meals were very tasty although I will say that my steak was cool. I'd enjoy this place if I lived locally and it would be a regular visit for us.

We came here for our anniversary and I'm glad we did! We started off with the mixed green salad topped with candied walnuts and the French onion soup, both of which were superb. Every table gets French bread accompanied by Provista olive oil, which is amazing. For our entrees we ordered the bouillabaisse and the risotto. Both were fantastic and the risotto is the best I've ever had. Our server (who was great) recommended a lovely white wine that we enjoyed very much. We were too full for dessert, but they had some yummy-looking options. We would definitely come here again. Great service, nice ambience, and wonderful food!

My friends and I were looking for a place to eat and stumbled upon Serratto. What a happy discovery. We made a reservation on open table the day of which was very convenient. Delicious food and lovely ambiance means I'm definitely coming back. POMME FRITES ($5): House cut, fried twice served with garlic aioli. Just average tasting fries but still good. GRILLED KOBE BEEF FLANK STEAK TARTINE ($18) : I really liked this appetizer. Grilled medium rare pieces of steak served on baguette with arugula and yummy sauce. FRENCH ONION ($7): I like french onion soup and this one was pretty good. It was a bit too salty for me but then again so is almost every other french onion soup I've ever had. CAVATELLI ($18): Pasta dish with dungeness crab, shaved fennel and rainbow chard in a saffron-citrus cream. Another great dish. You can really taste the crab. PAPPARDELLE($18) : Braised wild boar pasta with radish, arugula, hazelnuts, and shaved pecorino. Good flavor but it was on the salty side for me. SEARED SEA SCALLOPS ($32) : If I see scallops on the menu, I almost always order it. Scallops were seared perfectly and I loved the roasted brussel sprouts that they were served with. Butternut squash and walnuts were nice touches too.

My first time dining at Serratto was on New Year's Eve. I realize that that's not a good night to judge a restaurant, but I was really disappointed by the service. The food was good, but the service was "throw that dish on your table and run" bad. It was as if they'd hired a local high school troupe to work tables that night. I had the kale salad and the duck. Both were good. I don't recommend desert. I had the bread pudding, which was boring and had been sitting around for a while.

Been here several times and it hasn't disappointed me yet. This last time I brought out of town guests. They were truly impressed. Definitely would recommend. That being said, my only complaint is they don't have a gluten free menu. My daughter's have a severe allergy and it limits what they can eat. They get a bit tired of always ordering salads.

I see there are some 'not that good' reviews but I must say that I have eaten lunch and dinner at Serratto 4 times in the last 6 months and found it to be consistent. The service was good. The ambiance was good. The food was good. I love the mushroom risotto!! Only 2 complaints 1) parking for those of us that have to drive from the burbs. They seem to have remedied that with valet some of the time (not sure schedule but seems to be most evenings.) 2) very uncomfortable chairs so you won't want to linger. I would/will certainly go back. Especially in the summer with the windows open. Love that!

After our last experience, I'm half tempted to give it zero stars but the manager was wonderful so the two stars are solely for him. We were a large party of eight and the restaurant was empty at our 5:30 pm reservation save many guests on the happy hour side of the restaurant enjoying the half priced appetizers and the like. We were seated and had a two year old and seven year old in our party who were exhausted after a long day and so I had hoped to have dinner done quickly get their orders in soon and get through our meal quickly before any blow ups occurred. This was our first evening back in Portland and I had many fond memories of dining here when we lived here a couple of blocks away a few years ago. Unfortunately, none of those times did we have the server we were assigned this night who had such a bad attitude. If we had I would have avoided making a reservation here for a repeat especially with family in town. He had an attitude on arrival, taking our drinks orders and forgetting two of ours entirely. Then when it came time to putting in our children's orders in early he made it seem as though it was a massive inconvenience for the kitchen (again the restaurant was completely empty in the dining room except for a few patrons on the bar side). The last straw was when I tried to flag him back to take our dinner orders (he was chatting with another waitress outside of the kitchen as everyone patiently hoped he would reappear since the two year old starting getting impatient) and he addressed me patronizingly as "hold on ma'am, I'm not ready to take your order as yet." At that point, I asked the manager to get another waiter and he sweetly offered to wait on our table instead. The evening did get better but the sad part is service completely marred our experience. The manager was very sweet and tried to compensate by comping my dish due to the experience. We contrasted that night with our second night when we went to Screen Door and had such an amazing experience with such exemplary service. Serrato's food also wasn't as great as we remember alas (we are fans of Rione XIII in Seattle which has amazing service as well) so needless to say we won't be heading back here again.

Tried rigatoni, parpadelle, soup and pizza and couldn't decide which one was more delicious. Gourmet food for a fair price, interesting compositions of arugula in pasta dish, as well as hazelnuts. Very daring modern italian with a twist of old fashioned italian coccina. And the best part there is a real espresso coffee to top it off. The service was very good and the decor just complimented all of the above.

I was looking forward to eating at Serratto because of its four star average but found myself somewhat disappointed. Between the simple & spinach salads the simple shouldn't even be a menu option. You can't get much simpler than organic greens, red wine vinaigrette, & a few candied walnuts. $7 for simple & boring? I'd rather take a small plate of the candied walnuts. The spinach ($8) was the opposite of boring. I loved the gorgonzola; not too heavy or strong, the spiced pistachios, & the strawberry vinaigrette dressing. Perfect balance of flavors & textures. We both ordered grilled painted hills flank steak. I ordered mine medium while my friend ordered hers medium well. One really can't have their steak grilled to medium when it's so flat; mine ended up medium well. The steak wasn't something so memorable that I would order it again. It was tender still & went well with the creamed mushrooms, peas, & asparagus but I just wasn't amazed. My friend had the same opinion. The vanilla bean crème brûlée ($8) for dessert was my favorite out of the three course meal. I don't recall ever having had crème brûlée before but it was delightful & I'd order it again. Service was decent but slow. While waiting to order we watched three tables around us put their order in with our server & receive their first dish. We also had to wait for refills & when thirsty we sipped the water from the melted ice until a refill arrived. We didn't see our server as much as we would've liked but when we did see him he was pleasant & thankful for our patience. I'll give Serratto another try soon but right now I'm just not a fan.

This restaurant is fantastic. The service was wonderful, and the food delicious. The quality for the price really blew us away. I've been to most of the top Philadelphia restaurants, and this food would easily fit it, but would be priced much higher. If I'm ever back in Portland, this restaurant will be at the top of my list to visit!

Good, but honestly, didn't knock my socks off. In this town and at this price point, location, & ambiance, I have very high expectations and well-fitting socks. What rolled my socks down significantly were the Maraschino cherries in their Roy Rogers. Never tasted anything like them -- they were amazing. The staff knew nothing about them, stating only that they were, "organic" (wouldn't make any difference in a Marachino cherry or not IMHO). Desserts were surprisingly meh. Sounded great, looked great, but were just, well, meh. Socks remained on.

Wonderful food and always have the best service! It is always a lovely experience and I will continue to refer them as one of the best restaurants in Portland.

Kale salad was delicious and perfect size to be split. I had the pan seared rock fish and it was really good. The mushrooms in the dish were creamy tasting which gave an interesting texture with the kale. Service was slow but very nice and accommodating. We were sat on stools since we didn't have a reservation but then moved to a table when one opened up. The atmosphere and service definitely suggests for a long dinner so if you're looking for something quick, this is not the place.

I chose Serratto for a small office dinner this past week. I have been wanting to try it for years and figure I would do so on the company dime. Very glad I did. One of the first things the struck me was that our table for 6 was round. This may not seem like a big deal, but I love big round tables since they make it so much nicer to talk and socialize with your dinner companions and I appreciated this very much. The dinning area is light and airy, decorated in warm pale wood and cream. The nice big windows let in perfect filtered sunshine from it's corner location and the dinning room acoustics were such that you could hold a conversation in a normal voice. The service was fantastic. Not too intrusive but with enough attention that my water glass was never empty and used plates and cutlery did not linger too long in front of anyone. The menu is well rounded and well planned with at least 1-2 entree selections of meat, poultry and vegetarian, with 4 choices of fish. I didn't try any pasta but that selection looked yummy as well ( next time). I ordered Calamari and the Antipasti Platter for the table as we waited for everyone to join us. I am not a Calamari person, but was told that it was very tasty. I am however an antipasti person and the selection of charcuterie and cheeses was excellent. Not too much to ruin your appetite for dinner, but just enough to give everyone around the table a few good bites on the lovely crusty bread that was replenished soon after the last piece was eaten. The soft cheese was served at a perfect room temperature as to be just right for spreading. I started with the French onion soup and for me it was perfect. Thick with caramelized onion and just the right amount of crouton and gruyere cheese. I always order an entree that I don't make a home. For me that was the Lamb Osso Buco. The lamb was very tender and set on a bed of herb spaetzle and cabbage. The gravy ( sauce) was just right as to not over come the dish but to give it and the spaetzle the right amount of moist goodness. I was told that it is their signature dish, and I can see why. 3 of out party had the Alaskan Halibut, they said it was the best they had every had. Hubby loves halibut so if I needed any reason to go back, that would be it. Dessert for me was a light, flavorful Lemon Chiffon cake with raspberries, again perfect ending to a excellent meal. I am looking forward to bring hubby and friends to Serratto in the very near future.

We were late for our reservation, but were still welcomed and seated right away. The scallops were delicious, as were the brussel sprouts and squash. We will very happily make this a favorite in the Alphabet district.

While visiting the Alphabet District, we went to Serratto for lunch, and it was probably one of my most favorite meals on my vacation. I had the falafel dish, which was hardly fried at all--just the way I liked it-- and came on top of a salad of beets and sweet potatoes, dressed in a tahini dressing. If that salad were a dish I would have honestly ordered one to go. The boyfriend had the simple (but outstanding) spaghetti, which was topped with manchego, chick peas, and pesto. Both presentations were also very tastefully done. We also did a rose flight (the Oregon pinot rose was the winner here), and we enjoyed a spacious table overlooking the street. Our service was friendly and not at all rushed, and I wish I wasn't so full since I would have loved to give the desserts a try.

While visiting family during the Christmas holiday, we made a reservation at Serratto and tried virtually everything on the menu from apps to dessert. We started with the calamari which came with a delicious tartar sauce and no lemon. The fish batter was slightly sweet and slightly over browned - but delicious. Then progressed to the beet salad/goat cheese/pear, a tuna tartar, margarita pizza, and a quiona stuffed peppers. The beet salad and peppers were absolutely perfect - the pear and cheese combo was excellent and fresh - the stuffed peppers had a very faint kick which topped it off. The margarita pizza was the weakest link, too much garlic and undercooked. 4/5 stars for appetizers. I ordered the cheese burger - which was PERFECTLY cooked to order and came with a delicious garlic aioli, BBQ sauce, onion rings. I thought the onion ring/BBQ made it too rich and oily, even for a BBQ burger, but was packed with flavor. My fiancé ordered the prawns which were amazing, a truly impressive dish. Several orders of the chicken and potatoes got good reviews from the rest of the party. The salad starters were underdressed and the weakest link of the pre-entree dish. 4.5/5 for entrees. The wine selection was firmly rooted with Oregon and Washington selections. My critique is from the lack of California reds in particular, only 4 in total which were uninteresting. A good selection of 375ml formats was solid however. We ended up with a Seven Bridges Malbec which was evenly balanced but lacked a tannic presence I was looking for. 2.5/5 on wines. The desserts: we went with a lava cake like dish with vanilla ice cream and some orders of gelato that came with a gingerbread cookie. At this point I was stuffed and the coffee was what tasted the best. It was delicious though and wish I could have enjoyed it more. 4.5/5 on desserts. Overall, great restaurant and I hope to return anytime I am in town. Highly recommended and hope you enjoy! Happy holidays, cheers!

Nestles within a quiet residential neighborhood off a bustling street of bars, Sorrento compliments its cuisine with a soothing view (esp near sunset) of the surrounding greenery and elegantly understated decor and ambiance. While I wasn't hungry my soup du jour and seared scallops were tasty and well prepared. Service is good and their wine list extensive. Great place to enjoy a few glasses of wine with apps or dinner and decompress.

Serrato makes the best french onion soup in Portland. Period. Moving on..... The servers are always incredibly friendly, the home made pasta is wonderful, and the painted hills burger is amazing. This a great low key date night spot, especially if you are in NW Portland.

Great place to go to once or twice. It's expensive, portions are super small (even a "large" was small) and they're usually packed. Call in advance if you don't want to wait 45 minutes. We were lucky they had the couch free, so we took that, but the table was small and inconvenient. They serve water from the glass bottles but the water seems stale and warm. It could use some ice. Rigatoni pasta was really good, however, so if you're going there, that's one you need to try. So I'll give them that much.

This is my first review offered on Yelp. I recently relocated from the NY metro area and couldn't be happier living in the Portland area. My experience with Serratto has been uneven. While the greeting at the entrance has been pleasant, the sitting at a back table is cramped and uncomfortable. At first we ordered two glasses of Nebbiolo, undrinkable. We sent back and I decided to purchase an expensive Barolo to make up for the poor taste in my mouth. The server, while nice, has not been trained to deal with the wine opening. The first bottle the cork was dry, broke upon the opening. Another bottle brought out, again the same situation. Upon this the server leaves, does not say what will happen, goes to other tables to take orders and serve, leaves us without drink nor bread, nothing! Bottom line, we received the wine on a decanter after it was filtered. However doing the pour, cork still appears on the glass. We get our order taken, pork chop for my wife, tenderloin for myself, I asked for medium. The pork chop was over-cooked, the tenderloin way under cooked. The steak is sent back, it is rearranged instead of a new steak given. The bill came to over $300, I expect service and quality, not here. Do the happy hour, save your money and keep expectations at a minimum.

Serratto is a great nice place to get dinner. It is a comfortable place with couches to sit on as well as normal seating. We had a great plater, great beet salad, and good french onion soup. I got the duck with polenta pure and brussel sprouts which was really good for $25. My family got the steelhead which was amazing and the wild bore pasta which was nice and tender.

Late night Tuesday dinner at romantic corner spot, Serratto. They seated us at the upstairs sofa at 2000. Umm, no thanks. How to eat pasta bent over a low coffee table?! Their bread: out of this world excellent. Serious skills there. Salad was fresh and awesome. Cavatelli and wild boar paperdelle, small portion ($13) tried. Ehhh----- We both thought the Eveningland and Brooks wine and bread was more noteworthy than the pasta.... Not enough deep flavor for me.... Great ambiance though. Do love that. Not that we did, but could walk 2 blocks west and get some Salt and Straw for dessert! PS they just started a $25 prix fixe 3 course for Mon & Tues nights!! Darn that I missed that.

Came here with friends for happy hour. We ordered a little of everything off the menu and all of us had a couple drinks. The food was all good...except for the Calamari- it was so chewy! Ugh...so disappointing. The shrimp was good and the wine selection is very good. Just very sad about the Calamari...I had high hopes...

We have been to this restaurant many times and have always liked the experience but have never had as bad experience at any restaurant as we did today. We arrived at 12:05 and ordered shortly after. Took one hour before received our lunch and at that point had them box it because I had to get back to work . A table of 4 ordered 10 minutes after us and was served 15 before. The only good part of this was that they did not charge us because it got worse when I tried to eat my lunch back in my office. I had ordered their French Dip Sandwich. I found 3 pieces of string that is used to tie the roast in my sandwich. I don't think we will go their again.

What sets this place apart is that it's ridiculously clean and refreshing. The open windows all around the L shaped dining room let in "fresh" city air, and the sills were all quite clean. It's a pretty minimalist style inside. No dust collects here. The bathrooms were impeccable. I ordered a delicious cucumber cocktail called Garden Party with black pepper, an amazing baby green salad that was so light and gently salted that my 2 year old ate it and asked for more!! She's a good eater, but I was floored. The part where they could earn another star is with more appealing dinner options. It was a hot evening, and my husband and I both ordered the burger despite the gourmet offerings. Both burgers were overcooked, but I'm ok with well done. The truth is that the other entrees looked too tiny in other Yelper's photos. In summary, tasty food on a breezy hot evening with a delightful, cooperating toddler? Yes, please. I'll be back, but for lunch or happy hour 4-6pm.

I didn't hate this place but I didn't love it either. Small portions with high price tag. Service was great especially for it being a holiday when I went. Seems like they tried to squeeze as many tables as possible into the space which didn't leave room for anything else. I think there are better places to spend $150 for a nice meal.

The service and decor here are easily 3.5-4 stars. The space is quite large, and is beautifully lit up for the holidays. I really appreciated our server, she was kind and called a cab for us when it started raining. Absolutely order the Caesar salad here. It's one of the best I've ever tried. I ordered the tomato soup and polenta cake, which comes fried over a bed of tomatoes and eggplant. Presentation on both dishes was beautiful, but... the polenta was bland and heavy from all the oil, I was immediately sick. I spent the hour after I got home throwing up. To me, this shows carelessness for the preparation, ingredients and overall quality of food. It was disappointing, because the menu has so many interesting dishes to choose from. A good meal shouldn't leave you feeling immobile and 30 lbs heavier. Perhaps I just ordered the wrong thing, but I probably won't return to find out.

I will never ever go back. I moved to Portland about a year ago and this restaurant was on a suggested list of must-tries for Italian. After months of enjoyable other "musts", I was anxious to finally try, with a foodie friend visiting from Philadelphia. On a Saturday night. At 8:00. In September. Summer. In Portland. And the place was empty. Should have been a sign I acknowledged and should have moved on by to a bustling and dynamic option. But optimistic me looked on the bright side that empty could mean we would be well attended to. What a misassumption. The service was far worse than the food. Which was luke-warm and flavorless (note: I ordered my sauce with "extra garlic". How do they concoct that sans flavor?) Our waiter, Erik, was bored, aloof, insincere and clearly dislikes his job. Truly a disappointment. Serratto gets 1 star from me because of it's snazzy location. Love 21st St. And there are many other haunts there that receive my business, generous tips and loud acclaim. Don't waste your time on Serratto.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
