Potbelly is like the perfect place to grab a sandwich. It's quick, cheap, friendly, homey, gourmet, and oh so delicious. This particular Potbelly is located at the Streets of Tanasbourne Shopping Center. The restaurant itself is situated in a strip mall as you enter the Streets of Tanasbourne. Some reviewers have had trouble finding a place to park at this location. I came when the store opened up at 10:30 AM and practically had the parking lot to myself. Potbelly Sandwich Shop sports an interior that is clean, comfortable, and really quite large. The menu includes items like sandwiches (of course!), salads, soups, chili, hand dipped shakes, and cookies (baked every day). Most of the sandwiches sell for around $5. However, adding toppings like bacon and mushrooms can easily push your sandwich up to around $7. Potbelly's system works like this: first you choose your sandwich and bread and then you choose your toppings. It's a simple and efficient method of building custom sandwiches. Among the interesting sandwich selections here are Meatball, Vegetarian, Chicken Salad, and a Pizza Sandwich. On my visit I sampled a grilled chicken breast sandwich with cheddar cheese. Absolutely knocked my socks off! Subway gives its customers a myriad of sandwich ingredients (too many in my humble opinion). Jimmy Johns has speeded up and simplified the process. Potbelly Sandwich Shop fits very nicely into the middle. Delicious gourmet sandwiches served up with some tender loving care.

This was my first time at Potbelly, I ordered a Ham and Provolone sandwich with all the toppings they had and it was really good! I love that all the sandwiches come hot out of the oven. Although I wish they had more toppings but my experience here was really good. Affordable prices made it even better.

Since I moved from Chicago to Ft Lauderdale and then to SanDiego one thing that always bothered me is that these places dont have Potbelly.. I went to Portland to visit my friends and seeing a potbelly felt like seeing my first love after ages..I ran inside to get the aroma of the delicious condiments and spectacular bread....too bad I could only go here once during my trip but I asked my friend to eat my share too.. Oh potbelly please come to San Diego...

Potbelly is delish! Those peppers and such really make the sandwich. The Wreck is where you want to go, its got all the necessary meats. I go Italian over pizza, since the only difference is they add marinara....a very tomato globber heavy marinara at that, which isn't really my bag. Not as good as Jersey Mikes and cant touch Monkey Subs but kicks subway in the ballz!

Just ate Potbelly for the first time and I have to say it was delicious! Not necessarily the best sandwich I've ever had but great nonetheless and the experience was very pleasant. The staff here is phenomenal!

Definitely a step above your subway or your quiznos. I went to this place as Chipotle had a line out their door. I'm happy I was able to finally try this place as i've heard good things about it. Not sure about the name of the place but the sandwiches were good.

Great sandwich and price and atmosphere. I will be back and will highly recommend this place

Just like the ones in Chicago but in a Beaverton strip mall. Solid sandwiches and super friendly sandwich people. I would pick here over Subway any day. Try the Werks or Italian. Malts are good but I avoid them due to the redic calories that go into every milkshake.

Just a hungry yelper looking for something easy, off the beaten path, and free from logos and slogans. Well, the place wasn't as independent as I was hoping. Still a fair commercial feel going on inside complete with â„¢s on the menu. Corporate places can get the theme down and polished but sometimes lack in authenticity once the place is running. The place is kind of like a cross between Quisnos and Jimmy Johns. The sandwiches are very meat-centric. The feel of the place is like they were trying for a bit of an east coast vibe but the only part they really got to was the random yelling of words by the staff. I get to the line, browse through the quite large bottled beverage selection to see all the typical mass-produced overly sugary selections. Passed on the beverages. Moved passed to order my sandwich. Opted for A Wreck for myself who's ingredients read like an Italian sandwich, and a Hammie for the kiddo. It's ham and cheese. I was a bit impressed with guy1's calm demeanor in a place that's still fairly busy at a peak dinner time. Was preparing the order ahead of me while simultaneously taking my order and writing nothing down or entering anything into an order and he took the order calmly and confidently and didn't make me feel rushed and his demeanor didn't make me feel like he was rushed or over-worked. The odd part is the yelling. Once I put in my order he yells out my order and the other two yell the order back to suggest that they heard him. This is a cheap gimmick pulled from fish markets and east coast shops. Guy1's like "Hey, I'm making a sandwich!" and the other two chirp back "He's making a sandwich/That guy's making a sandwich!" Is this really necessary? Guy2's whole job is to take the meat and cheese bread off the toaster that Guy1 put in place and put your choice of 9 different condiments and vegetables on the sandwich for 8 hours straight. Should he really be so surprised to find a sandwich manifest itself onto his side of the toaster without the guy yelling into the side of his head from 3 feet away? I'd like to see some headsets secret agent style where they whisper into their sleeves that the customer who just walked passed them and the sign on the door that says "Potbelly Sandwich Shop" is indeed here to order a sandwich and is definitely not lost. I'm such a slacker on receipts. I forget to take them and when they tell me the total of my order they might as well be telling me what they heard on The View last night, because I'm not listening. A Wreck reminded me of a toasted version of The Italian Night Club from Jimmy Johns, but toasted and on ciabatta and smaller, but I think I ordered the smaller one. The hot peppers actually have some spice to them, where Jimmy's are sweet and zesty these have a mild spice that slowly accumulates until the end of the sandwich where it's still tolerable to my sensibilities. The cured meats actually kind of taste like cured meats, which is always a bonus. Sometimes at these shops it just tastes like a slightly more flavorful bologna. I nabbed a bit of the Hammie from the kiddo. (for science). The ham was quite flavorful where many others just taste like muted versions of themselves. Notes of smokiness and well hydrated without tasting like it was reconstituted in it's own juices like the turkey packets you get at the grocery store. It's truly noteworthy that most of the sandwich made it into the kids mouth! You parents know this means something! To test the practicality of the yelling, I've decided to make this a practice at home when I'm up at 6:30 making breakfast. "I'm making Cap'n Crunchâ„¢!" I'll update and let you know how it works in a week. (No I won't).

Warning!! Rant to follow. I apologize for length. I am dropping Potbelly a couple stars based on our experience Monday. 2.5 I really wanted to go to Whole Foods for a burger. ( different review but their burgers are solid: Sustainable, organic, delicious. ) Mom, said Princess, I really want broccoli soup and a milkshake. Ok. Potbelly I guess. ( not excited about forfeiting the burger but she wants broccoli after days of only wanting pho. And I mean days). I couldn't promise broccoli soup at Whole Foods. They rotate their soups. Its 2pm. The parking lot is pretty empty. Its Veteran's Day.Usually this lot is nuts. Theres a handful of people outside at tables and just a couple inside. .We stumble in to give our order to the girl at the counter. I order the chocolate shake first ( because it takes the longest ), then the bowl of soup, then a chicken salad sandwich on wheat( "multigrain" she says) then pick up some pop chips and head to the register. Ma'am? What sandwich did you order again? Chicken salad. Oh ok. She says. At the register my sandwich is sitting on the counter next to a tray (?) And I say " is this mine ? And he nods so I pick it up and put it on the tray while he rings it up, then he notes the pop chips, reminds milkshake maker to get the shake and says " a bowl of soup" and as he rings it up says " we are out of broccoli soup" and "you can have garden veggie or southwest chicken." He asks my daughter, "do you want to taste them? " Um no, says Princesses' facial expression, there are ONIONS in those. ONIONS are from Satan. Lets be real, neither of those choices is particularly kid friendly unless a parent has made them knowing what the kid will tolerate or if the kid had no food issues whatsoever. I don't have that kid. Mutely, pretty sad really, she shakes her head. She whispers to me "I don't have to eat." Grrrrr.Really?! Then he goes and erases broccoli cheese soup from their board. If, when I had ordered broccoli cheese soup, the girl had said " we are out" ...I would have said ok thanks and left. Or even better if I hadn't seen it on the board, I wouldn't have even had to talk to them! ( I do this at Fresh Thyme soup quite a bit. Go in, see what's left on their board...they're good at updating...and leave if nothing left will work). I couldn't do that now because I had a sandwich. Not a burger. Sigh. The helpful register man gave us a free cookie to make up for being out of soup at 2pm. So my child had a milkshake ( which she ended up not drinking btw), a cookie we gave her dad later, and my chips that have less nutrition than dirt. I had a sandwich I didn't enjoy. This was not a successful lunch. Afterwards I took her to Java Mama's for a bagel. I needed coffee. Will we go back? Hmm. Maybe not for soup. What a wasted trip to Potbelly. It is cheap. But...they need to tighten up their ship a bit. *Disclaimer: The Princess, by royal edict, is not eating sandwiches currently unless its grilled cheese.

Ok people so the parking lot is small park in the lot for the hotel that is what I always do they have plenty of parking. It's a sandwich shop that's what they do. I have eaten here a few times and it's pretty good. The ham and cheese is yum same with the roast beef. The sandwiches are hot which I like. It gets busy but they are fast here. I guess my only beef is sometimes they just go overboard of the sauce and your sandwich turns into a soggy mess. The hot peppers are nice but often just too much for the sandwich, it over powers it.

The server is ever smiling! Love their skinny combo for $6.80 which contauns a regular sandwich & a cup of soup. Their breads are fresh & soft. Beware of the hot peppers...they truly are hot!!!! Plenty of soups to choose from though a personal favourite and recommendation is the chicken noodle soup. Good for elderly & children!

Stumbled in here over the Nyr's eve holiday. Wasn't sure what to expect but I have heard of Potbelly before. Wasn't sure what the Potbelly referred to until I read the menu and what they were about. Glad I didn't try to just guess, I would have not guess right. lol. So I ordered the vegetarian sand and cup of the spicy veggie, wow was that soup something else. DH ordered the pizza sand (which I heard was amazing) and he had chips and dessert. It all looked so amazing I was ready to faint right then and there! I am not really a sandwhich person and rarely go. Maybe Subway every now and then and I really did not like Quiznos.. but this place blows any of those out of the water. The guys here were really helpful and I will definitely keep them in mind for my catering needs. I was amazed to find out that wherever you go that the sand tastes the same. The ingriedients are stocked consistently over the stores, so you'll never get something different. Go in and try them out. They are nestled in a little corner area by the Streets of Tanasborne, easy to miss but you will never forget where they are after that.

Very good sandwiches. Even better cookies!!!! Holy crap their cookies. Started ordering lunch for the office from here so we have seen nearly everything on the menu. Extra meat makes them great!!! Also love that they will slim down the bread for you. Awesome place.

  • Brandon T.

Very friendly, reasonably priced, high in calories and not bad on a cold day. I got the Italian and enjoyed it well enough to consider going back again. That said it was nothing special and I expected more of this shop because they have a pretty good look going on. The one thing that this place really needs is a better bread selection. I tried to call in an order and was shocked that they don't sell sourdough. In fact they only sell regular and multigrain bread, which is kind of a let down because I know their sandwiches would taste great on sourdough or Dutch crunch.

  • Jenny H.

Eh, mediocre sandwiches at best. I tried both the pizza sandwich and roast ham sandwiches and didn't feel either was particularly good. I actually prefer Subway or Quiznos over this place which is saying a lot. Being a carboholic, my biggest complain is that their bread is just dry and flavorless.

First off. I'm not a big sandwich eater, let alone a toasted one. I decided to give this place a try after driving by it all the time as I'm getting sick of the same old, same old . I think i found a new favorite place. Walked in on a mid tuesday afternoon. Just missed the lunch rush so I wasn't pressured to hurry along on my first time in. The guy working was really nice and talked me through the order. Everything tasted fresh and flavorful unlike subway where everything is precut and pre made in some factory in ohio a week or two before it enters your mouth. I had the "wreck". I guess its one of their main sandwiches. It was like 10 or 20 cents more then the regular sandwiches It had Salami, roast beef, turkey & ham with Swiss cheese. I had it with regular bread, but you can order it with wheat and I believe some low carb one. It had just the right amount of meat and toppings on it. I also had some BBQ kettle chips that come from New Orleans and a soda. Came to $8.00 even. Between this and Jimmy Johns. I think I'd choose Pot Belly. Would I call it gourmet? not really. Fast food? No. more like fast casual. You still pay at the counter, get your own drinks and seat your self, but its a whole lot better then some of the other guys.

Yup, I like it! A toasty sandwich made fresh for you with super friendly people behind the counter. Try the cookies! Co-workers keep telling me to try the chili too.

The wreck or the grilled chicken & cheddar are bomb dot com. I was a giddy school boy when I saw this was opening close to where I work. Chicago spots moving west! This place is quite busy during lunchtime so come early or call ahead. The parking around the spot is tough to get I recommend just parking the apartment spots near the back and walking 100 feet to the door.

When left I left Texas I was so sad to find out Portland did not have potbelly shops. I nearly peed my pants when I saw they were putting one into the shopping center close by. OMG LOVE THIS PLACE... the fun thing is.. No one really knows about them and they are NEVER busy!! DONT FOR GET YOUR PICKLE and COOKIE!

Wife and I wanted something new... Saw potbelly move in near our chipotle so we decided to give it a try. Arrived at noon, parking lot full and about 8 people in line before us. Line moved swiftly with plenty of help behind the counter. Wife decided on the farmhouse salad while I had the wreck sandwich on regular bread with the works. Sandwich was 2$ cheaper than the salad, and after seeing the size I understood why. However despite the disappointing value per square inch, it was very tasty. Hot peppers, toasted, great seasoning etc...I just wanted more of it for 5.10$ that said I know I don't need it. But it does not stand up to the value found at our other go to for sandwiches on the west side, monkey subs.. The salad was... Well a salad, not pre made, fresh crisp and tasty. But again 7$+ There is nothing that had us saying we need to come back here... That said we probably will not unless there is a meal deal including soda and chips for around 7$ we will watch the local rags for any coupons or promotions to bring us back.

Yet another worthy offering in the Tanasbourne district, within an easy walk of the brand spanking new Kaiser Hospital (which isn't officially open for bid-ness until August, but still....). I have yet to try Potbelly's Sammies, having only yet had their salads and they were terrific, plenty of chicken, bacon, etc that didn't need dressing, whatsoever. They also have a jar of enormous dill pickles, and if you have any appetite left after one of them big-ass salads and bigger-ass pickles, you are truly a beast, and a far better glutton than I, and that is really saying something! Potbelly's also had live music featuring some enthusiastic young hipster dude, complete w/the boilerplate scruffy beard, Buddy Holly specs and of course, skinny jeans. There was something a little incongruent and a little cliched about his being there, but also something a little sweet and endearing. The guy could play la guitarra and could sing, and I had no compunction about telling him so. Bonus: did you know one way of saying "hipster" in Spanish is "Inconformista", which is hands down the coolest thing I've seen or heard all week. Thanks for the tasty chow, good music, and vocabulario lesson, Potbelly!

This place is a great addition to the Tanasbourne area- quick service every time, fresh ingredients, accurate orders, and warm, toasty goodness to enjoy. I'm always amazed by how much one regular sandwich fills me up! I've not tried the milkshakes, but the cookies (as long as they're not out) are to die for!

Not quite sure what I was expecting from this sandwich chain. The name and the branding seem to purvey a more upscale, foodie kind of vibe, but that's not really the case. Potbelly is a pretty standard sandwich shop. There are so many of these joints in the area--Subway, Quiznos, Jimmy John's--I'd think the new kid on the block would need to do something different to really stand out. Nothing very different at Potbelly. I like the spicy pickled peppers. That's different, I guess. They really loaded up the "A WRECK" signature sandwich when I asked for "the works". That's a plus. Not nearly as stingy Subway. All of the toppings looked and tasted fresh. The bread was run through a toasting conveyor like Quiznos. Nothing amazing about the bread, but it was good toasted. I'm really giving a 3.5 rating. Didn't knock my socks off. I'd go back in a pinch, but with Jimmy John's willing to deliver a sandwich right to my desk during a busy lunch hour, I'll probably be just an occasional customer of Potbelly.

I have been here exactly one time. It was busy which is always a good sign. It was so busy, however, that I couldn't find a parking spot and headed across the street to park in the Streets of Tanasborne. I'm not opposed to this or to the walking, I just wasn't prepared for the extra time and with only a 30 minute lunch break, I was late getting back to work. So lesson learned, be parking prepared or walk yourself here. I had placed my order ahead with their handy online ordering service. My sandwich was ready when I got there and still toasty. It was also freaking delicious. I will say the best part of the sandwich is the Potbelly hot peppers! OMG! Amazing! And they sell them by the jar so I am all over that and then I will put them on everything. Serious yum factor. I think this is an above average establishment that will meet your sandwich needs and it's a great, higher quality alternative to Subway. They have some other goodies that I have yet to try: salads, soups, shakes, etc. but they absolutely have this sandwich thing handled. If it was a little closer to work, I would most definitely over-frequent.

Potbelly sandwich shop (est. 1977) They also have soups, salads, shakes, cookies and soda pop! A great addition to the Tanasbourne mall After shopping, grab some food at this corner stall I came upon a busy lunch hour on a Wednesday Surprised that the way you order is similar to Subway Where you tell them the type of meat and regular/multigrain bread After my visit here, I should've gotten the "Pizza Sandwich" instead But, I opted for a sammie under their favorites line The thinly sliced Angus roast beef + provolone cheese was "just fine" I added toppings such as: mayo, mustard, lettuce, tomato, onion and oil Then they wrap it up in wax paper and aluminum foil Prices range from $4.90-$5.10 for just a decent 6" sub It's a decent place if you want quick, lunch grub There's a good amount of seating within the area But during this lunch hour, it was a bit of "hysteria" Possibly because the employees needed some help I was standing in line for a couple minutes and "checked-in" on yelp I wish the employees hired a bit more staff So that everything will move smoothly and without a gaffe! I also tried their Oatmeal Chocolate Chip mini cookies Not too bad for fresh, baked goodies! I will come back for that "Pizza sandwich" since they just opened For it could be too early that I have spoken **Dedicated to my 700th Review** PDX 30 Day Yelp Challenge #23 of 30

Got sandwiches from here recently. The bread was good but unexpected; its crisped on the outside like a panini but a little bit soft and chewy inside, like a flatened sub bread or something. It's good but different. I had a turkey sandwich with bacon, letuce, tomato and a little mayo. I don't like a lot of mayo and most places really over do it but when I asked for just a little mayo they listened and I really appreciated that. The guy who gave it to me said "Get ready to have the best sandwich you've ever had," I've had Po'boys in New Orleans, so no it was was not the best sandwich I've ever had. That said it was pretty good. I also like that they have milkshakes and icecream treats along with sandwiches, salads and soups. My husband liked his Italian sandwich and returned. I would happily eat there or grab a sub to go again.

Stopped for a quick lunch. Service was good. Italian sandwich on wheat bread was tasty. Not too heavy and overall good meal. Not crazy enough to buy their stock though. :-) However I would probably choose this place over Subw or Qz.

I was excited to see a new sandwich place. Sandwiches are my thing. I didn't like the nickel and dime aspect of ordering, pretty much everything is extra and no combo savings at all. I was craving a chicken salad sandwich but they guy taking my order says the chicken is low quality and recommends I order something else. Whoa. It grossed me out but I appreciate the honesty. I ended up with a very dry boring turkey sandwich that I could have made at home.

    Great sandwiches. Great service.

Loaded baked potato soup does the job. The sandwiches are good compared to subways and Quiznos. The smoothies are way to sweet even they say they use fresh fruit.

In theory, its just a sandwich shop. However, I can't stop coming here. I order the same thing every time: a turkey sandwich on multigrain w/ everything except mayo, and a mixed berry smoothie. It costs me $8.10. I've probably eaten this combo 100 times now. The jalapeño / spicy oil adds some kick to the sandwich, which awesomely complements the smoothie. Their smoothies are virtually identical in both taste and texture to a milkshake (made with frozen instead though), and this is a plus for me (I confess, during my early days here I got the mixed berry shake instead, it was probably not until my third week that I tried the smoothie out of concern for my heart, and was delighted it tasted no different). So I can't speak to anything else on the menu, but I've never had a bad experience here and come often. Oh, except once they were out of mixed-berrys and I tried strawberry. It wasn't as good, IMO.

Oh my gosh seriously my favorite sandwich place when I go with my wife she'll get salad and she loves it but for me I stick strictly to the sandwich I get the wreck with bacon it's a beautiful combination of meats little cheese and then it's toasted when it comes out that put the toppings on wrap it up and you're good to go I highly recommend this place for anybody that enjoys a good sandwich the staff is always fantastic and nice

  • Aaron R.

I guess I just don't get what's supposed to be so great about this place. I had their take on a club sandwich, which was alright I suppose, but was entirely too salty. The portion sizes are a bit small for the money, and there aren't many choices to customize. It's not a good deal at all. The space is a conundrum. It's supposed to be homey I guess, but their faux-authenticity is betrayed by the fact that you probably parked between Starbucks and Chipotle to come here. They try to relate to Hillsboro by putting up some historic Oregon pictures, but then fail to spell these historic things correctly (Eugene has a "g" in it, guys). I will give them credit for serving Coke AND Pepsi, which means that they get that there are two sorts of people in the world. Overall, however, I can't see where a return trip would be likely. It's a less than great deal that tasted kinda icky in a so so space.

My favourite sandwich place in the area. They dont have theBig sandwich I've seen in Austin, but the Wreck is as good, the staff very friendly, and the prices very low! Any day prefered over other chains. Only problem for me is the timing.. they close a bit early.

    (5)
  • Darbie E.

Meh. It was just ok. I'm not particularly fond of toasted sandwiches, but because they par-bake their bread, customers don't have a choice. The place was clean & the staff was friendly, but we won't be back. It's like Togo's but with mandated toasted sandwiches.

This is a great little sandwich shop. 5 different handmade soups. This is great in the cold weather. You have many choices, if you get overwhelmed just go alacart. Really nice crew. This are all over the Midwest. Nice to see them here.

Potbelly kicks Quizno's in the junk and makes Quizno's beg Potbelly to do it again. OK, maybe it isn't quite that dramatic, but Potbelly figured out how to make it in the fast food, hot sandwich market as Quizno's is shriveling up and dying. Potbelly serves up tasty sandwiches, soups and chili, made with quality ingredients...they even have multigrain bread and even milkshakes. My wife really likes their soups and I enjoy their chili, which is decent for fast food. The staff is helpful with a touch of quirkiness. Prices are a tad high and certainly above Subway, but the quality of Potbelly blows away Subway. They often have live music, but the acoustics in the building are poor and it makes ordering difficult. That's a minor complaint. The amount of stuff on the walls makes it somewhat confusing for a newbie, but the staff is good at directing you along. They cater too. Definitely a good work lunch joint.

This is a solid 3.5 stars for me. The inside is adorable. They just opened, so they don't have their sides available yet, and they aren't set up for "big" size sandwiches - just regular. Their meatballs taste pretty horrible, but the rest of their meats were good. double meat is a good idea on the regular size sandwich, so just do it. Trust in me. The garden vegetable soup is delicious and tops any other chain sandwich shop's soups. The pizza sandwich with hot peppers is the way to go. I highly recommend getting a "dream bar" before you leave.

One of my favorite restaurants from when we lived in Chicago. In Chicago and Florida when we would eat at this restaurant we would wait in line for several minutes before getting to the counter to order. The secret is not out yet in Oregon they seem to be relatively slow I don't know how because the sandwiches and soups at this restaurant are absolutely awesome.

5 stars for the sandwich but 2 stars for the service. I made mistake on ordering my food realized it when I am paying. I was okay to pay for another sandwich so I got what I wanted but the girl told me she can make me a new one with HUGE attitude. I even apologized but I guess I was stupid to make a mistake when I placed an order so i deserved the attitude from her. It was my first time there because I am looking for catering so I wanted to try them out. I'm kind of bummed because I like the sandwich but I really don't like how I was treated.

Didn't have the best experience here. First, I wasn't overly impressed with the quality of sandwich (I got the grilled chicken and cheddar). I felt it was fairly generic and forgetful; pretty much what I expected from assembly-line style sandwich-making. I even asked for everything on it since I might as well go all out to see what the fuss is about. "EVERYTHING, YOU SAY?", mocked the man behind the counter. Yes, everything, please. But go easy on the sassy sauce, thanks. In addition, thanks to the slow service I only had a few minutes left for my lunch break. Back in my office I bitterly stuffed my lukewarm sandwich into my face; half-gagging on dry bread and hatred. I was full, but not satiated. Also, very thirsty. Like I said, not the best experience and I hope to avoid this place altogether in the future.

I love Potbelly! When I moved to Oregon a few years ago, I missed it so much since there were no Potbelly shops in Oregon. When I saw a Potbelly sign come up so close to my house, I was beyond thrilled. My staple is their Chicken Salad sandwich, with their standard ingredients except mustard and pickle. I generally go light on hot peppers too... they have their special hot peppers that are so so good, but too many don't go well with my stomach. They have soups, salads and milkshakes as well. I have tried some of these things every now and then and they have all been reasonably good.
