Great sports bar! The atmosphere is certainly conducive to good times. The drinks are strong and the service is timely! It's right on the water, too. Also, the waitress is a looker for sure !

Not a bad spot to grab a quick brew or some late night eats. I enjoy that it's right smack on the waterfront and has some outdoor seating as well. It's a simple place. Sports memorabilia plastered up on the walls with a few flat screen TVs for catching the games. Pretty decent HH prices from 3-6 and some good ol' local brews on tap. Staff is on par and from what I've seen the food looks decent but I have not tried it yet. Good place to stop and grab a cold one!

Steak bites are pretty damn good! Could use a better beer selection. Good place to watch the Ducks

"Intimate" and probably a fine enough place with a few friends... if y'all find a spot to sit.

Excellent little sports bar. I am at a training class at the nearby Residence Inn (which is also the Ronald McDonald house for OHSU- Coolness there) and have visited this place twice-today and yesterday. What brought me back today was there Chili, now it won't win any awards at the National Chili cookoffs but hey they don't make chili the way I like, this place does. It was so good that I came back and ordered it again. I am thinking I may go back tomorrow for another bowl. The service was good, the owner/manager/waiter/server/jack of all trades was pleasant, friendly and took good care of me. I will admit both times I went it was for lunch and the place wasn't crowded, which made it even better. I would highly recommend it if you are in the southern part of the waterfront district.

Good, fast service. Bartender changed the tv to the game we wanted and the garlic fries were to die for!!!

This place is great when the sun is out, because it is lively and it is just filled with great energy! Today, it was a gorgeous day and it was just great to see others enjoying the sun, eating and having a beer. You do no necessarily have to be drinking to enjoy this place, but it is great to have a sandwich outside with the sun beating down on you. Yes, when it rains, you need to go in to this place, but once again, the inside atmosphere is great. The owner is there most of the time and he is out there working, waiting tables, running food, even though he has help. It is a small business, so it is great to support a neighborhood business.

The drink pours have gotten smaller. The food is still blah. Been going there for a couple years and the staff - while friendly - still don't know my name. We haven't been going in recently.

I went out on a date with a girl recently and we decided we would just walk around and decide where to eat. When we walked by the Portland Sports Bar and Grill we noticed the Blazers game on inside and decided to eat there so we could watch the game. There were Blazers posters all over the walls and a person I am assuming was the owner was wearing a Blazers jersey himself. I was thinking this is my kind of place, I'm a huge Blazers fan. The food was average overall. Neither the gyro or the burger were that great but the fries were perfect. The beer was 4.50 a pint and the service was average. Everything would have been fine except for the fact that at 9:15 the owner turned the volume of the game off. When we asked what the deal was he explained that they close at 9:00. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! A sports bar that closes before the home team is done playing?! My date asked if it would be o.k. for us to stay to finish the game and the owner said a couple minutes would be o.k. but that with time outs it would be more like a half hour before the game finished and that wouldn't be o.k. We left and went across the street to finish watching the game. The waitress there explained that they must have just changed their name because it had been called Cypress Mediterranean grill the previous week. I looked it up on-line and it had tons of bad reviews. I'm assuming they decided to change the name and start afresh because of the bad reviews. Only problem is that they are total idiots and don't understand what a sports bar is. ITS A PLACE TO WATCH SPORTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mediocre at best. Nice friendly folks for service. Food was not of value. Great location and convenient if you are in the area.

The drinks are average. Average price. The happy hour food? Get the Burger, nothing else. The waitresses are usually all pretty nice and on top of your needs. The location is awesome you can see the water and some bridges right in the heart of the Marina downtown. The outside seating is awesome, lots of seating. Great place yo grab lunch with friends.

    - Locale Destination - It's on SW River Dr and SW Montgomery St in Portland, OR. Neighborhoods: Southwest Portland, Downtown It's a small, casual, and normal sports bar. It's right by the harbor, so it's nice to drink beers outside! Many people seem to be

Great place to sit outside and enjoy Portland's waterfront. I live in the neighborhood and stopped in the other night with my roommate. I ordered tater tots and he ordered a Gyro. The food was average so the place get's 3-stars as A-OK.

I'll start with the good. The service was pretty good. Our waitress was quite friendly, and did a good job of handling a group of six, although the place was fairly empty when we went in. As far as the service, it was better than the rating I'm giving it. The problem was the food was pretty bad. The people who got the veggie burgers were okay but nothing special. My grilled cheese in garlic butter with shredded cheese on it was just terrible though. The cheese tasted burned, and I was worried I was going to break a tooth on it or the bread. I'd compare it to burned croutons with cheese inside. The fries were okay, but way too greasy. There was a puddle left on my plate when I was done, just a big puddle of grease. Our waitress was so nice that I hate to leave a two star review, but if I ever go back I'll eat somewhere else first. The food was just unacceptable.

I have been coming here for several years now, and I feel that it only keeps getting better. This is for several reasons: 1) Jon, the owner, is there pretty much all the time. He is super friendly and the drinks come out fast and good. What more could you want? 2) The food that they do offer is yummy. You have to remember this is a small place, so they have limited faire, but unlike other small places I have been, the whole place does not smell like grease. The garlic fries is a must have, as well as the hummus. They go great with the wide selection of martinis. 3) Drinks! The main reason to go is the $4.50 happy hour martinis. They are great, and Jon can make way more than whats on the menu. Just tell him what you are in the mood for. 4) I should mention all the TVs that have sports games on, because well it is a sports bar. But I go for the above reasons and this is kind of a bonus. 5) The outdoor seating. When its sunny, you can sit outside, enjoy the sunshine and have some yummy martinis. I think this is a great place to just go and hang out. Its never overly crowded and I always have a good time there. And seriously, 4.50 martinis??!! Can anyone else beat that?!

  • Michael L.

Good food, small and quaint... suitable for a game and a beer. Emphasis on the beer, because I wouldn't make the food your reason for making it a destination.

    (3)
  • Diana L.

$4 martinis during happy hour! i would say that that is kind of amazing, especially when you're sitting outside on a sunny day. happy hour menu and service were pretty decent as well. no complaints :)

    (4)
  • Yusing W.

If you sit down and get the young, blonde server, you might as well get up and walk out. Two major complaints for my experience. Went there for happy hour and sat outside on a sunny day. 1. We'll start at the end - I'll note that the prices on our bill were higher than the happy hour prices noted on their menu. Big no-no. 2. The bigger complaint - the worst service ever. 30 minutes after ordering drinks and food, our server comes out and notifies us that she forgot to put our order in, and tells the next table over she thinks she gave their food to someone else. She takes our order again, and then appears again because she forgot our order (we were only a table of 4, and yes she had our orders wrong again). When we get our food, we all ask for water. We get 1 water glass. We ask for 3 more. We get 1 water glass. We ask for 2 more. We get 1 water glass. We ask for 1 more. She couldn't screw that one up, other than forgetting, but by a miracle, she did not. We then ask for napkins - remember, we are a table of 4 - and we get 3 napkins. Despite forgetting our food, all-around crappy service, no discount given on our order, no free appetizer offered, nothing but extended crappy service. Even getting our bill was a hassle.

I hate giving one star reviews, I really do. But there's just no other option for this place. After two visits I don't think we will ever come back. Our waitress was one of the most unenthusiastic servers I have ever had. I get that she was at work and nobody wants to be at work but at least maybe pretend that you're almost kind of okay with being there... even just slightly! The owner? He's an absolute jerk. Handing out beers to his buddies and telling everyone else he's closed. We walked by again 30 minutes later and he was STILL handing out beers to his buddies. Completely rude to customers. I don't know how he stays in business. Even putting aside the aspersions I have cast on the owner and staff, the food is really not great. And for the price it's REALLY not great. The tater tots are meant to be seasoned with cajun spices and while that may be the case, the spices were incredibly stale. Or maybe the oil they were fried in was incredibly stale. "Stale" seems to be a trend here, as the burger bun on our first visit tasted like it had sat on a shelf for a month or two before being toasted to the consistency of an overlarge hockey puck. Protein-style burger it is, I guess. Don't order the soup, it comes straight out of a can. If I am wrong about that, the chef has an incredible ability to make things taste like they have recently come from a can. Think you're safe with a salad? Think again, it was brown on both occasions with some partially rotted leaves. The boneless wings? Tasted like the deep dark depths of a freezer. The martini? Partially warm. The beer? Okay, the beer was fine. There you go. It's a real shame that we won't come back to this place, considering the proximity to our apartment. Ah, well. Maybe something better will open up in the vacant cooperstown bar and grill. Fingers crossed!

Tried to go here for a few beers yesterday. Me and a friend rode up on our bikes. All of the tables outside were full up so we waited for about 15-20 min. outside standing. When a customer paid and got up me and my friend sat down at the table. Waitress told us that she would clear the table in a minute. We said ok no worries. Then a few minutes later some guy (bartender maybe?) came out and told us the tables was reserved. We were like what we have been standing here waiting for a table for a while now. The guy had nothing so say so we left. Well , I called the Portland Sports Bar & Grill today and asked if I could get a table reservation. The guy who took the call said no we do NOT take table reservations. So, this is a one star rating. Like one or two mentioned before this place obviously does not like cyclist or something. What's the deal?? Telling cyclist to move on and or that a table was reserved? This Portland. The #1 cycling city in the USA and I'm proud to be part of it. To bad this place is not cyclist friendly. Or any kind of friendly for that matter. I mean the guy could have said sorry, I will get you the next table, or told us come on inside to sit down, or maybe even offered us a glass of water on a hot day.

I was there early waiting for my friends. The hostess/waitress were extremely friendly and encouraged me to grab a happy hour drink at the bar. The bartender was attentive and got my drink quickly. The waitress was very patient as one of my friends and I waited for another couple of friends to join us. Once they came, she was right over to take our orders and the food came out hot and tasty. Great service, great food.

When the Pilsner Room lost volume on their big screens for a Sunday/Funday football game, we ate there then came here for drinks and to finish watching the game. And glad we were! They have happy hour on Sunday and plasma screens in every direction. A late-comer friend showed up and ordered food, which looked delicious, but since we'd already eaten, we tried numerous drink specials. I went for a spicy mango martini and then a berry flavored one. Not very "sporty" for football viewing, but I can pour a beer for myself at home. This are needed something low key for days you just want a beer and to watch the game. Well, I do, since I don't have cable and often have to go elsewhere to watch. If you cant afford to go to the actual game, come in here to catch a game and get cheap eats and drinks.

Came in while passing by, ended up sitting outside as it was a nice day. The service was decent, nothing to brag about but food came out, drinks came out yadda yadda. Cool vibe. I'd stop by in future.

While moored at Riverplace Marina, my mate and I decided to stop in for some drinks around 10:30 on a Friday night. The bar's name is congruent with the venue: a simple sports bar, a little divey and uninspired. But, we just wanted drinks, on the waterfront. We weren't feeling picky. Problem is, we ordered our drinks and the server brings them... With the check. Here's your hat, what's your hurry. In fact, now that I think of it, her first words to us, delivered in a flat tone, were, "We're done serving food." Um, OK. It's a bar. At 10:30. On a Friday. In a tourism city. On a beautiful waterfront. We would have ordered more drinks, but I guess more business isn't a priority for this joint. So, I tucked my nearly full Corona under my arm, shot my Jameson, and we shuffled down to our boat to drink from our own bar. No reason to return. Lots of better places to be. Nothing more to see here folks.

We came here on a whim for dinner after having drinks at Newport Bay. It was packed with dragon boat peeps. Really packed, like no seats available, we had a party of four. We waited along time for food, enjoyed the company and the drinks. Ended up with some awesome burgers! Just delicious! The bartender ended up serving us! A great relaxing place for dinner and drinks. Worth the wait!

Great people and great food. It's the best local "everyone knows your name" type place. Drinks are good, burgers and salmon are delicious and the staff is amazingly friendly. A must stop by place.

I familiarized myself with this place when I worked close by. I love the drinks. Best Martinis I have tasted. Especially the blackberry drop! Mmmmm!! Super friendly staff-very personable and get to know you by name, and drink-if you go often enough. Set right on the waterfront which is also great!! Two thumbs up!

I've been here twice. Having recently moved to the South Waterfront area I was looking for a spot to grab a few beers and watch a Trail Blazers game, maybe a bite to eat. Not a big shocker to see nothing vegan/vegetarian, or even healthy on the menu except maybe the hummus. The hummus did look good (some guy near me ordered it) and came with large round pieces of "naan" (see the menu. Not pita. I know it's basically the same kind of, but really, it's hummus, call it pita for the love of Zeus). If they offered falafel I'd probably try it despite all the poor food quality reviews. I did not see any flirting between the bartender and waitress like mentioned in other reviews. My waitress the first night was super nice and attentive. The second time I had a different waitress who was pleasant toward me, but I heard her share some rather disparaging comments with the bartender about some customers who were sitting less than 10 ft away. 3 stars for being a close spot to go watch a game by myself.

    (3)
  • Annette S.

Where do I start? I've only been here twice. The first time wasn't bad, it was during the day, I sat outside and had some of their over priced, mediocre, happy hour food (don't get the hummus). That constitutes 3 stars! Not horrible, but it's not great either. The second time I showed up around 9pm, the place is dead, which should of been the first red flag. The waitress is nice, but the owner is extremely rude. He has the hots for my friend so he's always chatting it up with her while me, my husband and her fiancé are completely ignored. Not to mention I saw him rubbing the waitresses back, so that tells you where his priorities are, but who knows they could be in a relationship, regardless that kind of behavior is tacky when you own an establishment. He didn't even card my husband, not that he looks under 21, but hey kids if you look a bit older you should stop by here and get wasted. See how nice I am? I'm directing more business your way. Continuing on... there were a group of guys sitting right next to the door smoking cigars. I'm allergic to smoke, to say the least I woke up this morning and felt like I took a bath in cigar ashes. It was so thick and pungent that I couldn't smell anything else. My husband asked if they could close the door, the owner snapped at him and said, NO! So we sat there for two hours doused in thick cigar smoke (Which is illegal? There's a law that you need to be a certain amount of feet from an establishment), I'm guessing these were friends of his. So clearly this place is very unprofessional and the owner is a huge sleaze ball. Give it up, she is never going to sleep with you so stop sucking up to her. You probably fantasy about her you perv! I'm sure you're wondering, "Well Annette, why didn't you just decide to sit outside?". A) I'm a customer, I shouldn't have to sit outside just so I don't inconvenience the old boys club puffing away like hey have a death wish for us all (don't you kids know second hand smoke kills?). They should of either closed the door or asked for the smokers to move. B) I didn't have a jacket C) I didn't bother asking the owner to get the smokers to move since he was too burdened to even close the door. There you have it, my fantastic review on a fantastic bar. I hope you enjoy the top 10 billboard hits while getting wasted at a bar that looks like you should be at a rave.

Can't beat this place for a local good vide, great oyster shooters and a great deal. Being from San Diego I don't get to venture into the oyster territory much and it was a pleasant surprise. Don't pass this one by.

I stopped in on 7-2-14 at around 12:30 and decided to try it out for lunch. The waiter/bartender was very friendly and attentive, the sun was out and the mood was light. A few people sitting at tables inside and out, but overall a nice atmosphere. I ordered the Philly and fries and it was pretty good. The spicy BBQ ranch sauce was a nice touch as well. (Used for fries) Overall a nice play, simple and clean, food was good and staff was nice. Not a whole lot else to say other than I'd recommend it for a quick lunch stop, mostly since I don't drink alcohol and can't attest to the bar which appeared to be full service.

This place is OK. It's small but the servers were nice and they have a good hummus and pita plate. The decor is all over the place. They have random jerseys and pennants hanging all over the place but it seemed so thrown together. I personally would do an all Portland/Oregon theme and I'm not even from the NW. This part of downtown Portland doesn't have many bar options but this place gets the job done.

Not a bad place, but no reason to go out of your way for it, either. I happened to be staying at a nearby hotel and didn't feel like driving anywhere, so this looked like a good place to grab a burger and a beer. Their beer selection is just so-so, but luckily they did have something I liked. The burger was actually pretty good. I probably would have given 4 stars, but the service was average, at best. Slow, and not very attentive. Not especially friendly either. If you're in the area and in the mood for a burger and a beer, go for it. If the weather is nice, they have a lot of outdoor seating.

I have lived in the apartments above this bar for a year but have only gone to this bar twice. The first time was early in the summer on an exceptionally beautiful day. It was perfect to sit at their outdoor seating to people watch and enjoy a few cocktails. The martinis were very reasonably priced during HH, but nothing to write home about. I was also disappointed with the garlic fries. Crinkle cut fries with too much garlic oil that made the fries way too soggy. I returned to this bar tonight only because the next door restaurant was already closed for the evening. I must confess that a big part of the reason I never frequent this place is that it feels a bit intimidating. It's a very tiny space but the bar is always packed when I walk by. And it always seems like the same crowd when I walk past so I always feel like I'd be like a huge outsider intruding on the regulars' routine. But I was desperate for some food tonight. I snagged an open table under one of the TVs tuned into the Sunday night football game. The bartender came out and took my drink order and returned a few minutes later with my brew, ready to take my order. I had a question about their grilled cheese which sounded delicious. Unfortunately they were out of bread so I wasn't able to try it. I decided to order the burger instead. I think it's fairly reasonable - $8.50 for a burger with cheese and with two of the thickest slices of peppered bacon I have ever seen. And it came with the largest side of fries. So much food on one plate. I must say the fries tasted better tonight - plain rather than garlic style. I think crinkle cut fries are best enjoyed solo. No need to make them soggy when turning them to garlic fries. I also had a pleasant surprise when I closed my tab. The bartender rang up my pints under HH prices ($3.50 instead of $4.50). Definitely can't complain about that. Not sure if it was a fluke / bartender being nice / or if they have some un-advertised Sunday night football special. You won't see me complaining about that though. HH food & drink specials daily from 3-6pm.

Two words: Don't. Bother. Unless you're somehow stuck at the waterfront and the good places are filled, seriously, don't bother. If you're not part of the bartender's little clique that he likes to talk to, your service will suck and your drinks will be weak. I've actually been here a few times, and sitting outside just to have a beer is not so bad. But forget the food-- Worst, absolute WORST attempt at French Onion soup I've ever had (Think brown water and something that may be cheese), and a "Jalapeno Cheeseburger" which was neither very Jalapeno-y or very cheesy. Just weak sauce all around. I guess I shouldn't bitch, this sort of thing is endemic to the waterfront, where they mostly cater to tourists. But seriously, to call this place a "sports bar"?!? Yes, you do have the requisite Budweiser NFL thing on the wall, but I got news for ya, Buttercup: Just putting ESPN on your lone TV ain't gettin' it done. You're no more a Sports Bar than Morton's is a vegetarian restaurant.

Portland Sports bar is not your all night party club, but I must say I am a fan! My husband and I found it after a long walk down the waterfront and decided we'd stop in far a drink before we made the trek back downtown. The atmoshere is laid back, the owner is very friendlly the drinks are great! They offer regular $6.00 Yeager specials and have a great happy hour cocktail menu. for $4.50 I had a delicious Kool-Aid Martini and then had the owner make me another happy hour special $4.50 martii which was not on the drink menu... Both were amazing! They had a decent beer selection offering a few local brews and the Happy hour food menu offered typical bar fare at prices all under $6.00. We had the boneless buffalo wings and were very happy with both the portion and the flavor! After reading the previous reviews I asked the owner how long he had been there, he said he had owned it for just over a year after parting ways with his former partner with which it opperated under a different name... My overall oppinion is that this place is a great place to stop for an after work cocktail or, like us, tourists killing time looking for a great drink!

This is a pretty small bar but the people were nice enough to put on the Coug game for me during a Duck game so I was more than happy. A little disappointed they didn't have more delicious Oregon beer on tap but the Ninkasi is always a great option. The hummus was a nice snack and the waitress was friendly. This place has no identity though - random team jerseys everywhere and random decor on the walls make it seem generic. It has more potential than what they've got going.

Well we went down to the waterfront to go to Cooperstown but found out they closed. So we tried this on. The burger was a reheat flat patty. The fries were cold. Beer was cold- good thing. I don't know how this survived and Cooperstown did not.

This used to another place some time ago.. a Greek place but can't remember the name of it. It had awesome food though. I remember this place well. At first when my friend said to meet her there I thought I had not been here but I recognized immediately when I got to the area. I love this place and the bartender was pretty good to us. This was the start of another drunken night. We had several other things on the docket. Would definitely go here again if in the area. I love this area.

The disappointment continues. Call us crazy...we wanted to give it another chance. It has only gotten worse. The smell of burnt cooking oil hits you before you enter. The waitress (owner's gf?) wants your drink order in a hurry so she can go back to standing around at the bar flirting with the owner. Too much attitude for us....one drink and we went to Lil Cooperstown half block away.

Nice quiet find while staying at the Riverplace Hotel down the street. The service was pretty good. The drinks were well priced and the food was definitely a surprise. If you are staying in the area and don't want to deal with the rain or taxis. Stop by, the food will hit the spot and drinks, well are drinks. The bartender was also very accommodating with our request to change one of the channels on one of the TVs. You stole our business with that gesture.

I'm not even sure how this bar is still open. The owner isn't what you would call a "people person." In fact, he's a complete jerk and he doesn't seem to care. He wouldn't serve us at the bar and he TOLD us to go sit outside and order with a server. Well, the server never came so I went back in to order drinks and I see him sipping off of 2 drinks that were about to be served to customers. He says he was just smelling them, but I know what I saw. I chose not to order a drink and I will never return. I can't imagine they will stay open after the Newport Grille closes, because those are the only people that will put up with his BS.

In any other part of town it would be an unremarkable place to slurp beers and watch some TVs. But in the midst of the wasteland that is the south waterfront, PSB&G is a wonder. I really can't give stars for scarcity of supply, however. I dropped in recently for a beer and a hot dog. The hot dog was pretty good and the beer came quickly. The menu looks pretty standard with some Mediterranean stuff added and there's a pretty typical list of fancy cocktails.

  • Shawn H.

Ten of us went there yesterday...yeah 10! The manager guy (grey haired) denied us, told us he wouldn't serve us. No real reason. We all were on bikes, and were parked out on the street. So ALL of us went next door and gave all of our business to the sushi place. A much smaller group of us comes here on Friday nights that will stop too...realize how much money this equals?

So I visited Portland, Oregon for the first time a couple of weeks ago and stumbled upon Portland Sports Bar and Grill while walking along the waterfront. The vibe was right up my ally...great scenic view, laid back atmosphere, cool Indie / Alternative music playing, cute staff, and my favorite beer, Stella on tap!! The best part was the personality of the bartender on staff, Tara. Even though I was from Texas and clearly a stranger to the place, Tara made me feel at home, introduced me to some of the regulars, and entertained everyone there with her quick humor! As a result, I met some potential business clients and made some new friends in a place where I knew no one. I ended up visiting it 3 times during my vacation and was able to try a few of the menu items. The Philly cheese steak was awesome and the rib-eye steak was great for being under $15! Everything was reasonably priced. I'll definitely visit again when up in Portland!

  • Bartek K.

Love this place. Jon, the owner, is usually behind the bar with a smile and dedicated service. It's his house and he wants you to feel welcome. There's a large outside area in the heart of the waterfront people watching. Best time to come here is before you go out for the night. Jon closes shop usually by 10 so you've got the perfect amount of time for well priced libations before you hit the town and wonder where your paycheck went.
