Downtown at 12:20, not the ideal time to be looking for something to eat. I'd been here before, quite some time ago and decide to wander in. Lunch rush? These guys fear no lunch rush! I was apprehensive upon entry, there were a lot of people standing around although the seating was mostly empty because of the sunny weather. My order was taken within maybe 5 minutes (note: use the codes on the board, they don't want to hear "chicken salad sandwich", they want "D2") and my number was called pretty quickly after that. Maybe 10 minutes altogether. They have a good selection of stuff, hot sandwiches, cold sandwiches, bento and breakfast items. Behind the counter was kid bear on the cash register, mama bear cooking and papa bear moving the orders out. He knew a good half dozen of the people by name (it's in an office building). Their dance was intricate and fast tempo without being frenzied. Everyone was friendly, even to the douchey guy who claimed he'd ordered a wrap with bread instead of the tortilla (douche) but they didn't have a ticket up for it (douche). There's also a good selection of drinks, Pepsi fountain, Snapple, juice, even G2 bottles. Sandwich (they put those red raisins in their chicken salad, odd but tasty) & Snapple cost $7. They even have daily specials. For a teeny tiny office building cafe! Win. Total win.

Stopped here Friday AM to grab a couple of sandwiches before going hiking in the Gorge. My wife, who normally won't even touch a sandwich is still raving about her chicken salad gourmet sandwich on a toasted whole grain. I had the turkey, cranberry, avocado gourmet. We each had half. Delicious, wonderful mix of textures with sunflower seeds and romaine, The guy in charge (owner?) was wonderful, helpful, obviously proud of his place. They even labeled our sandwiches "his" and "hers"-a nice surprise when we opened them.

I went to Portland on business this little deli is across the street from the Marriott (Waterfront), Mike makes an outstanding breakfast burrito. The service was tip notch, he made me and my friend feel like we were his regular everyday customers.

I was walking from SW Portland to the OMSI when a sudden pang of hunger hit me. Well...sheit. Alright, so I look to my right and what do I see but a deli. I head on over and open the standard door, walk down the standard rubber edged stairs and look at the fairly standard menu, where I see good point number 1: cheap. Upon scanning the menu I note that they have several vegetarian options, which is always appreciated, star 2. While I was scanning the menu, I saw the interactions of the people who worked here and I could tell this was a real family-owned small business, star 3 And when I finally got my sun-dried tomato sandwich and sat outside with the nice view of Hawthorne bridge and the riverfront park in the sun, I reflected....yes, this is a 4th star. I bit into my sandwich.....not toasted? well, 4 is what you are getting Plaza Deli. Learn to toast your bread and you will be much better off I'm telling you.

Enjoyed the ramen bowl with tofu made with medium heat as requested. Located convenient to waterfront attractions.

Randomly walked by this place and had to try it out for breakfast. I'm so glad I did. It's a quaint place family run with fresh ingredients. So delicious!

Had been going to this place for 6 years. It was always convenient first, decent food, and always very rude service. The younger man working behind the counter is always rude but hey, it's convenient and decent. As of the past year the prices have gone up, the service has gotten more rude, and the food has declined. This all culminated recently when a breakfast sandwich was made incorrectly (instead of cream cheese with ham, it also had a hot egg on it.) This of course made the cream cheese melt and was a mess. The fact that I have ordered the same sandwich the same way for years was odd, so I called to ask for a remake. The most unbelievable part about the call was the younger man at the counter (see most rude) actually told me it was made correctly AND that he didn't need my business and would not remake the sandwich. It was amazing but it also was in a way, the best thing that could have happened. This incredible act of horrid customer service encouraged me to explore some of the other spots very close to the area for breakfast, and I couldn't be happier. Better food, lower prices, and nicer service! For those of you who have locked into the Plaza Deli for reasons similar to mine (previously) I strongly encourage you to explore other options. . They are well worth it.

Didn't thought about coming into this place right next to hotel where I was staying at. But my friends and I decided to pay it a visit since it's right across our hotel and we were in desperate need of finding a place to get hot breakfast. It's tiny inside with about 4 to 5 (2ppl) tables in there. We managed to grab 2 tables and combined it into one. Got a breakfast omelet with wheat toast. My friends got burritos and vegetarian omelets. I love their hash browns! I was surprised that it was not those tiny bits, but a huge piece. Wish we had a similar place like this back at home. I would definitely go there every single day to get breakfast.

Homemade, hot, and reasonable. Hubby and I found this little deli across the street from our hotel on day 2 of our 3 day stay in Portland. I had delicious, hot burritos both mornings -- one was vegan and the other was eggs, avocado, hash (vegetarian) with hot sauce all wrapped up in a warm, soft tortilla. It's a Mom & Pop (and son, I think) shop which we loved. Everything was cooked while we waited, so yummy -- we wished we'd found it on Day 1 of our stay in Portland. 2 hot, hearty breakfasts for about ten dollars! If there were a place like this near my home, I'd be a regular for sure. It did seem like they have a lot of regulars as the proprietors seemed to know a lot of the people coming in in the morning and the burrito specials are named after their regulars. Highly recommend.

If only this place had fresh items, more vegetarian items and basically anything better than what they have now. There are so few lunch spots in the area that I'd love to frequent it, but I can't find anything worth buying here.

After being frustrated in finding good breakfast spots that serve food outside from cooking bacon in a microwave and using prepackaged "scramble egg" in my breakfast sandwiches, I finally stumbled this place and HALLELUJAH! I found a cafe with a GIANT menu where the cooks use REAL, FRESH ingredients! Ida the owner, heard my food frustration so she even gave me a sample of her delicious chowder (she made from scratch) to prove that they are one of the few cafes in the business district still dedicated to freshly prepared food. Reading from previous reviews about rude service, I was afraid that I would get the same treatment. But Bill was such a sweetheart in helping me choose what to order and explaining how Ida and her son cook things from scratch so I didn't have to worry about eating anything processed. He was even kind to tell me about the specials they make on the daily like their Korean kalbi wrap on Fridays! AND he informed me how many customers go there so much, especially from my work building, that the cafe puts up their regular customer's breakfast sandwiches in their menu along with their names. So fun! The french toast I ordered were surprisingly nice and moist. Boy was I happy when I saw the size and realness of their bacon! NONE OF THAT OSCAR MAYAR MICROWAVED BACON I am usually familiar with in downtown eateries. I will definitely do lunch business with Plaza Deli from now on.

The first time I visited this place (5 years ago) I was so put off by the rudeness of Bill (counter guy) who acts like he owns the place and doesn't that I stopped going there. However, after encouragement from some co-workers I started going again for the breakfast burrito, the crazy thing is.. I realized that Bill is just a no-nonsense give me the order kind of guy and really doesn't have time to walk you through it. Over the years I've actually enjoyed Bill working there and when he left for a few months to pursue other job opportunities the environment changed in a bad way.. i'm glad to have him back. The breakfast burrito is 5 stars.. it's got a mind of it's own and deserves it's own restaurant. The owner is the cook and everything is cooked on an old diner style grill... she grills the meat, grills the hashbrowns.. throws some eggs on and some cheese to get all melty.. douses it in the hot sauce of your choice.. then wraps it up in a tortilla and grills that too... you would be hard pressed to find another burrito.. and if you call it in.. it's ready in minutes. I'm just knocking it down a star because of the service and the state of the place.. kind of a wreck.

I'm lucky enough to work very close to this deli. They make a delicious breakfast burrito that's also affordable! There's a great selection of hot sauces, and the temperature of the burritos is perfect. They're also very nice. Today they gave my coworker and I a free piece of pound cake for Christmas! I go here almost every time I am starving at work and/or suffering on a Monday after a wild weekend.

Rude staff, especially the man with the goatee. We only work 2 blocks away and while i have had their food -- i can consider it good. However, when someone walks to a place -- we should be treated as customers with at least a sense of courtesy. I have worked in the restaurant industry and I have handled my fair share of complaints. I haven't given a "one" star, but this place does deserve my bad review. I apologize to the owners for my review -- but to hear from more than 3 coworkers that the crew is rude and just not happy for paying customers -- then I will sincerely will refuse going here.

What's not to love? Cheap, customizable eats. Veggie burrito was outstanding, and I loved that they had a variety of options named after long-term customers who had designed their own treats. Would eat here every day if I could!
