I'm here in P town on business staying at Crown Plaza. Found this place on yelp and walked 3 minutes to get there. Sunday morning around ten and the restaurant was busy. No place to sit so I took my Reggie Togo. All I can say is DAMN!!!! That was stupid good. $10 out the door with a Stumptown coffee.

Several other reviewers have noted it, do let me pile on: I didn't even realize this place was here! The little industrial pocket just north of Broadway and west of MLK is, well, not completely desolate anymore. I only found this place when I Yelped locations (thanks Yelp!) to grab the closest county ham, egg, and cheese to fortify me on my way out to the Columbia gorge for a hike. This Pine State location is pretty deluxe and a big step up from the original Belmont walk up location (R.I.P). They have a good amount of indoor seating and actual plates and silverware. And of course the amazing biscuits that make me home sick for North Carolina still figure prominently as a platform for eggy, chickeny, balcony, gravy goodness. They even have two big screens to entertain you while you wait. I'm watching bowling while I wait for a Reggie Deluxe right now! Bowling on TV is fawking awesome! The other screen has hockey. Suck it football and basketball! Line can be long, post usual, but other than that, what's not to love?

I was sooo excited to come here on our roadtrip from Seattle. I could never pass up a good breakfast spot! Driving around, this spot is a little hidden. Inside, the place is small yet bright, clean, and cozy. You walk up to the register to order. We had the Reggie and the Reggie Deluxe. They gave us a number and we went to grab water, silverware, and napkins for ourselves. I, personally, am very used to these kind of self serve restaurants as there are tons in my area so I don't really mind it. There were less than 10 people in the restaurant at the time but we ended up waiting for our food a little longer than I had expected. When it finally came out the guy mentioned that the plate was very hot. Usually I heed the warning but I HAD to get an instagram pic so I moved it a little bit (all about the angles!!) and found that the plate was not hot at all. Not only was the plate not hot, the gravy was MAYBE room temperature as well as everything else except for the fried chicken. I found this to be really strange since they did take a while to bring the food out and I expected it to be steaming hot. The dish was goooood, I loved the peppery taste in every bite. I wish the gravy was hotter and I wish there was more of it. I also thought the egg was a little weird because it wasn't over easy and it wasn't scrambled, it was kinda beat once or twice then thrown into the pan. Despite all of this, my meal was still extremely tasty! Just a little off in some aspects. Would love to come back when I visit again.

Ordered The Reggie. It was good, but nothing special. The fried chicken was actually cooked wonderfully-- crisp outside and tender inside. What bothered me was that the gravy was lukewarm. My plate and biscuits were hotter than the gravy itself. I'm a little surprised that we would run into this problem because with about 3 people in front of us, my girlfriend and I waited for about 15 minutes for our food. A little warmer and I think I would have enjoyed my biscuits and gravy a lot more. The inside is small, comfy, and gives an industrial vibe inside. I would love to come back and give this place another chance. If you are in town, check it out if you have the free time! PS Ask for extra gravy. Not enough gravy for the biscuits and fried chicken!

Worth the stop and the slight wait. Biscuits are solid, very buttery. Bacon is awesome. Huge, gooey cinnamon roll. Biscuit with apple butter is good too.

We dropped into Pine State early Sunday morning for breakfast and coffee. The place is very clean and modern chic on the inside. The cashiers were friendly enough and the food was great! No complaints.

    (4)
  • Lane D.

Why so low? The bisquits were good, but not 'the best I've ever had'. The service was someone taking your order at a counter. The setting was sort of 'stark industrial chic', was conjuring 'granny's kitchen' before going. It seemed a long wait for a bisquit that I know is already baked and waiting. Being you can see the cook staff, they sure seemed like they were taking their time preparing the order. Would/will I go back? Definitely.

"I love Pine State biscuits" is not how you begin a 1 star review, unless you are Caleb apparently. Know what's wasteful? Driving cross town and idling your car on Alberta street while your friend waits in the rainy line out the door. This popup style take out spot is efficient and offers another place to stop by and grab some of the best biscuits available in the northwest. Do you know what isn't wasteful? Offering 100% compostables and recycling in store. There is literally no garbage can for customers to throw things in the trash. If you wanted to bring your own takeout container, they seem like a place that would accommodate, but I guess it's hard to do takeout on your fixed gear unicycle. I'm from the South, I love a good chicken biscuit, and this location's was just as good as their super popular Alberta shop. My only gripe is they aren't in Seattle!

Referred to Pine State Biscuit by the concierge at the hotel, a great recommendation. Easy parking on the street out front. Very nice and helpful staff, great suggestions. The food was fresh, hot and well prepared, very low key. Good portions for the price. Was busy but not over crowded on a Saturday late morning. Fast service. We ordered pancakes, we were told they are made from scratch and take 15 minutes. They were, they did and they were worth the wait. A happy find, I'll be back.

Delicious food! Biscuit sandwich was delicious and the hash was out of this world.

  • Jenny M.

Feel very bleh about this place. The food was super heavy, and did not like the mixed savory and sweet flavors, not to mention the service was HORRIBLE!! We are out of town guests and when we asked what we should order the response was " Reggie is popular". Ummmm ok, two minutes later anything else? "I guess the pine state club". Someone was clearly having a bad day. Won't be coming back.

  • Jack B.

All I have to say is YUMBO! The apple cider is UNREAL GOOD!!! And Marion Berry jelly! OMG!!! The cornmeal blueberry pancakes this morning were made to PERFECTION!!! Please try and be patient. God forbid you wait 15 mins. It's sooooo worth it!

Came here on a boiling hot Saturday before a hike to Punchbowl. There's a line so be prepared to wait about 30-45 min just to get to the register. Once there we ordered the Reggie Deluxe, the McIsley, and the shrimp and grits. We also ordered the Nitro to wash it down with. Due to the long line, we surprised at how much available seating there was inside. The Reggie Deluxe was delicious, just the way a classic biscuit sandwich should be. The McIsley however would be the sandwich that would keep me coming back. I'm a huge mustard fan and I loved the tangy mustard sauce they slather on here with the addition of pickles. The shrimp and grits tasted good, but a little less buttery than what I'm used to. Skip this dish and just get another biscuit sandwich.

one of my favorite places! I originally chose this place when my sister was visiting and she loves biscuits and gravy. Boy was I glad that I came! Location: in a business/back street area, not hard to find especially with their little sign on the sidewalk. Parking: street parking. We chose this location because we figured there weren't going to be that many people there considering its one of the newer ones. and yup, we didn't have to wait but it is small so try to go early to beat the crowd Service: quick, efficient and friendly Food: So amazing! two suggestions: The reggie deluxe (Fried chicken, bacon, cheese, gravy and egg sandwiched with biscuit) and the shrimp and grits! overall: This place is one of the restaurants that i suggest to my friends when they come to portland. its basically your comfort food, what more can you ask for.

Great low key place, food is amazing. All their biscuits sandwiches are delicious! Tried the steak biscuit, the meat was fresh and tasty!

  • Chris M.

Wow! Wow! Wow! My mouth is on fire as I write this. I ordered the Reggie; fried chicken, bacon, and cheese with sausage gravy on a biscuit. The chicken has some kick to it. It is so filling. I was thinking biscuit sandwich...maybe too little? I took pictures. It was huge, delicious, and spicy! I want to come back to Portland just to try other things on the menu now! Go here!!

  • Jason E.

Loved the food and atmosphere. Had the Reggie, money ball and hash browns. Everything was amazing.

  • Jennifer P.

Vegetarian options? Yes! I love Pine State. The Moneyball with shiitake mushrooms is delicious, as are the fried green tomatoes with the dill sauce.

  • Aarika A.

The "Wedgie" is so, so good! Requested the dressing on the side because I was worried about eating the sloppy mess. Made the mistake of ordering the "Cajun fries" for one... definitely need to share! Recommended for your tastebuds, not your waistline

    (5)
  • Gerardo T.

Pretty damn good! the seating needs some work, but they have a few locations around town. I had the reggae bush with cold press stumptown tu-tu coffee. great for b-fast.

    (4)
  • Trevor W.

Definitely not as good as recommended... Was in this morning around 945am and it was mildly busy. Once it was my turn in line the person at the counter just looked off into space as if lost or not all there. I finally said, "hello" and she slowly responded, "do you know what you want?". Anyways I tried the Reggie with egg ($9!!) took my number and waited, and waited, and waited. 15 min later got my food. It was just ok. I liked that it was different from the normal breakfast sandwich. The gravy had a nice little spice to it but the sauce was too much on the sweet side foe me. The biscuit was dry and unnoteworthy. The bacon ok and the egg cooked right. The chicken was the best part of it. Juicy and flavorful. All in all it wasn't worth $9 but not bad. The coffee was about empty and the staff inattentive to the customers but maybe it was an off day. All things considered I'll save my time and money for Portland's many other fine offerings, not here again.

I couldn't help but getting some for a few co workers that haven't ever tried it and one told me "mouth-gasm". so i think that explains it pretty well.

  • Bear B.

Holy sweet Buttery lord in fatty heaven. I got the chat field and as a southerner from Louisiana and Texas I appreciate a crusty tender biscuit, perfectly fried chicken, and apple butter! Wow. These people churn out biscuit after biscuit in delicious combos that go from savory to sweet. Toss on some Texas Pete's and you are talking about a killer breakfast. Good portion size without being heavy and ridiculous and the prices are decent. They put some soul in their food and it shows. Would recommend for anytime you have a comfort food craving.

  • Pam S.

Always a great place to have breakfast. Consistent great food. Friendly staff. Good coffee. A Portland staple. I'm so excited they opened a new location off Broadway.

    (5)
  • Annie O.

The food was good, not great. The chicken was a bit overcooked and dry. The sausage gravy was good. The flavors were good. The service was good.

    (3)
  • Kazu O.

The Reggie Deluxe.'Nuff said. I felt like I was gonna get a heartattack after eating that fried chicken, doused in gravy, with a fried egg, sandwiched between delicious biscuits.. but it was totally worth it. The price tag is fair, and they do have dine-in service, good music, and all the usual things you'd expect from a fast-casual restaurant despite what the other reviews say.

    (5)
  • Anni H.

They now have plates and real utensils. There is even a two top table off to the side, too bad there are not a couple more tables for people who don't like sitting on bar stools. The Pine State Club was awesome. The Hash ups with Steak were crispy and seasoned just right. I will definitely be back. For those of you who are unfamiliar with this local chain, they only do a few things but they do them extremely well.

  • Jan H.

This place is fantastic! I've been here once a week in the past month and it's been top notch each visit. If it's your first time then get the Reggie. The sausage gravy is amazing and I order a side of it with anything that doesn't already come with it. Their Arnold Palmers are so refreshing and they offer one free refill (which you can take to go!). If you're in Portland you need to check it out.

    (5)
  • Adam L.

Didn't even realize this was here, I have been a avid fan of the location on Alberta for years. To find out they had a new, quick, to-go business model store front near the Rose Garden (Moda) made my day. Think all the same amazing options as the Alberta and Division stores, but quick and easy and ready to go. I Always recommend the Reggie Deluxe!!

    (5)
  • Paul S.

I don't get why they didn't make this a small sit down restaurant rather than take out. It's not like it's surrounded by a lot of businesses with employees trying to grab and go with lunch. And pancakes in a rectangular narrow container? GMAFB. Pancakes were good, service great. Yes, there is seating here, but everything is served in take out containers. There is a garbage can, contrary to comment in earlier review. And they have music. No omelets on menu at all. Bad. Prices are good. Only ice tea they offer is sweetened. Bad. No need to go back given the damn containers.

    (2)
  • Mike T.

The ONLY reason this is not 5 star is that the place is small and there is some construction going on. The food is 5 star. I and others with me have tried many different items that they offer, and all have been absolutely bonus. The coffee is outstanding and there never out. The quality of the biscuits and the Applebutter are mind blowing. Go early to avoid lines, but if you do get there and it's busy the line actually moves pretty quickly and everybody gets taken care of. Staff is super friendly.

    (4)
  • Caleb B.

I love pine state biscuits. This low rating is due to the particulars of this location. This location is geared exclusively towards take out. All orders inside were still served in to go boxes. Even the coffee was in to go cups. Big bummer about all the waste that's being created. This is fine and dandy if I want a sandwich to go, but I won't be back to sit down.

  • Bella M.

Loved this place and so wish we had something like this in DC. $7 shrimp and grits? Insanely delicious shrimp and grits. For $7. Husband had the cornmeal blueberry pancakes and loved them. $6! Will always hit up Pine State Biscuits when we are in Portland from now on.

  • Gloria C.

we hear about how good this place was and it was OKAY! The service was alright and the food wasn't so bad 3.5 but it wasn't flavorful, good portion/reasonable price but this is nowhere I'd wait in lines to get into

  • Edward B.

I've written about the food at other locations, so this review is just for the physical space here. First, I want to say it is not hard to find. Come on, people. Schuyler runs parallel to Broadway, one block over. This part of town is on a grid. It's not difficult. It is a bit out of the way though, in the sense that there's not much going on in this neighborhood. As other reviewers have noted, this location used to be takeout, but they now serve on real plates with metal utensils. My pancakes came with little plastic tubs of syrup, butter, and apple butter. That was unfortunate, but no big deal, and certainly better than those horrible foil-wrapped butter pats. My apple butter had a lid on it, and it was cold; those two facts combined tell me they have these staged in the fridge. Hey, I don't want cold apple butter on my hot pancakes! I was told there's no music, but there is. On my visit, it was 60s/70s hits with a bit of a motown/R&B flavor, like Al Green and Bill Withers. No real tables, but a few counters/bars. Mostly live-edge with bark, a nice conterpoint to this stark space. One wall was unfinished OSB, which seemed tacky, but then I realized it probably has something to do with ongoing development of this building. Long-term, I think this will be resolved. The bus cart was just sitting out in the open. Not really attractive. Again, this might be temporary. We'll see what this space looks like in a few months. Overhead door goes just down to the street-facing counter, which is a nice touch. It allows them to open the place up when weather is nice, but minimizes the warehouse ambiance. A wee bit o' art on the walls, two big TVs. Not as themed as the decor at the other locations. Just realized I didn't see restrooms. Is it possible there are none? Considering this place started out emphasizing takeout, maybe there are no customer restrooms. Something to think about if that's important to you. Another warning: When you walk in the door, you go up a ramp to the order counter. As you walk up that ramp, you're at eye level with people facing you eating at a bar-high counter, seated on stools. If the place is crowded, this can be awkward. You might find yourself standing right next to somebody eating, so close you could lean over and take a bite from their biscuit. Later, when you're eating, you'll encounter the same awkwardness from the other perspective. It's nice that there's a place for people to wait where they're sheltered from the elements, but as small as this place is, maybe that wasn't the best space utilization. Oh, and why no sidewalk seating?

This place rocks! Biscuits are so fresh and any of the combinations of eggs, bacon, sausage, fried chicken, are fabulous! A treat to eat! Service is good too.

I had a reggie deluxe yesterday morning to get the taste of the previous nights pot and pabst out of my mouth. It worked well in doing that while also satisfying my ravenous hunger. In addition I proceeded to smell my fingers the rest of the day to savor the experience. Haven't done that since the morning after senior prom.

  • Sam G.

Had the Reggie which was ok but not as hyped as I have read. After we finished our meal we wanted to order some plain biscuits to go but the cashier said that I had to go back in the line? Or call by phone to order? I just had waited half an hour then 15 minutes for my lunch and then they won't let you order more after your initial order. Because of this I will not be back for a mediocre breakfast.

The biscuits were 5 star worthy!!! If it hadn't been for the long wait to get them this review would be too :) All kidding aside, I lived in Texas and these biscuits could have been made there... But the sweet tea not so much :(

Newest location, close to Rose Garden rocked brekkie for us. We had Reggie Deluxe- deep fried chicken, bacon, cheese, eggs and a cup of sausage gravy all over a biscuit; is to die for. And if you continue eating these for brekkie everyday you will die from them. However, once in a while this is a treat worth of Gods and five to ten miles on a treadmill. Lines were long, but service amazing so it took us less than 15 minutes to be seated and get the food.

  • Diana K.

This was one of the best breakfasts I've ever had! The biscuits were perfect and so was everything in between. The gravy they used was out of this world! The staff was very friendly and quick. Our food came out fast and was nice and hot. We were able to sit and have a nice breakfast before a full day of exploring Portland; it was the perfect start to our day!

  • Beverly H.

In town for a conference, and decided to check this place out since it's very close to our hotel. Was hoping for more of a "dine-in" experience (definitely more of a take-out place), but glad we have it a try. The shrimp and grits were delicious, as was the biscuit with mushroom gravy. If you're looking for quality and quantity and a reasonable price, this is the place!

    (4)
  • Jeong H.

Wow. Just wow. The Reggie deluxe was beautiful. Would come here very often if I lived in portland. The gravy is delicious and the chicken is fried just right. Every part of the food fit well together!

    (5)
  • Ziva S.

The food is delicious and the prices are reasonable too! The classic biscuits and gravy is amazing, but their biscuit sandwiches are awesome as well. The seating can be a bit tight so you really have to watch the other parties like a hawk and swoop when they get up which makes it a bit stressful. The back and the kitchen seem huge so you'd think they'd rearrange and create some more seating but that's just my two cents. Overall, great eating!

  • Corey O.

I was delighted to find out that pine state opened up a new location in the NE. However as soon as I walked in it felt so creepy. There is no line, and everything is Togo only. There are some bars to eat at but the walls are bare and there is no atmosphere. It's like eating a yummy biscuit in solitary confinement. No music, eerily quiet and I wolfed my biscuit down in order leave quickly. Very very disappointed in this place. If they wanted a Togo place they should have just made it a Togo window instead of this half assed establishment. If you want to enjoy your biscuit you should stand in line at their other restaurants. I won't be coming back here again.

  • Adrienne C.

My husband and I ate here today and was pleasantly surprised. The restaurant was smaller than we imagined, so there is not a lot of places to sit. The employees were very friendly and welcomed us with open arms. We waited about thirty minutes for our food. I ordered the biscuit and gravy and my husband ordered the steak biscuit. The food was absolutely delicious. Fresh biscuits just like my grandma used to make. A little taste of the south in Pacific Northwest! We will definitely eat here again.

    (4)
  • Kirsten W.

Coming from NC, I've definitely had a better biscuit. The biggest thing though is the wait! For having 5 people cooking in the back, it should not take 30 min to make a 2 biscuit order when you are third in line. Disappointing Pine State. I thought Carolina boys could do better.

A business model based on disposable containers has no place in this town! Even recyclable/compostable are significantly less sustainable than washing. What gives Pine State?

    (1)
  • Debbie S.

I was very excited to have biscuits and gravy...so disappointed! Yes, I had biscuits and gravy, however, the biscuits were hard and the gravy was cold! What a bummer - I paid $10 and tipped - for poor service (waitress gave my order to another customer) and mediocre food. So so so bummed!

Amazing! To die for! Flaky biscuit topped with spicy fried chicken, cheese, bacon and Apple butter. Yum!!

  • Jennifer D.

Was excited to have another wonderful Pine State experience at the new NE location for my weekly Brunch worship today. While the location and brevity of wait were excellent, it wasn't the dining experience I was anticipating. Same menu, but only to-go orders. About 20 bar seats encircle the small space, but no tables, no ambience, no music and only bare white walls. Was told I couldn't order a small side of hash browns, even though it's listed on the menu. Several people choose to dine-in, which quickly overflows the small compost receptacle with compostable to-go-ware and food scraps, which seems more wasteful than necessary. If you just want some yummy Pine State Biscuits to-go, then this new location is excellent!!

  • Tiana R.

Oh my GOD. I had been looking forward to this place since the moment I started planning my trip to Portland. It exceeded all expectations. We had heard of people waiting in line for 2 hours, even just after opening, so the boyfriend and I woke up extra early to come here. We needn't have worried. We arrived at about 7:15am and there was only one other person in the place. We ordered the Reggie and the Reggie Deluxe, plus a side of Fried Green Tomatoes. Despite the fact that we felt like the most slovenly, gluttonous humans ever, the food was heavenly. The portions are also nothing to scoff at; I couldn't finish mine! Trying a Pine State biscuit is a must, IMHO. Apparently there are multiple locations, so if you're looking for a less crowded experience, this is the place!

  • Sheena L.

Get the shrimp and grits, as well as the pine state fried club you will be amazed with the glorious concoction of flavors and biscuit excellence. I would definitely come back if I'm in the area.

  • Lezley L.

I think Pine State is starting to outgrow itself quicker than it can keep up with. Like any other local chain that pops up all over the city, the quality of the food declines. The same applies to Pine State. Don't get me wrong, biscuit sandwiches are good but I don't feel like they are worth standing in line for especially for the price and size. We happened to find this location in search of breakfast where the lines weren't insane. Luckily this location is fairly new and was less crowded. This quickly changed as we waited for our food. The only warm thing on the plate was the egg, everything else was cold or lukewarm. Did someone forget to turn on the heat lamps for the chicken or turn up the burner for the gravy? Pine State used to be good but that was before they started putting up a new location on every corner and lost focus of their food quality. What a shame. Thank you for reminding us why we don't go to Pine State anymore. Honestly I think Miss Kate's food cart is a bang for your buck compared to Pine State. The biscuit sandwiches are bigger, made to order and a little bit cheaper.

BEST breakfast I had in Portland hands down and one of the top breakfasts I've had in my life. Reggie deluxe with an egg and a side of apple butter: a crispy fried chicken topped with bacon, egg, and cheese and smothered in gravy in between 2 large fluffy biscuits. The apple butter was very flavorful and sorta helped balance the richness of the rest of the dish. Everything here was delicious. My other friends got the potatoes and shrimp and grits and they all said it was very good. There was barely a line on Tuesday morning at 10 am, but if I'm ever back in portland. I will be here for sure.

  • Linette F.

I am a huge fan of mouth watering scrumptious biscuits. If I could give an award to for that I would present it to pine state biscuits. The biscuits are made in house and you can see the kitchen staff in the back making these gourmet biscuits. The texture is perfect. Not too hard, not too soft and had the extra oomph crunch on the outer edges. From biscuits to gravy and even to the breakfast sandwich, this place is the place to get your biscuit dance on! Of course, everything just makes it even better with a side of warm Stumptown coffee. Bon appetite!

  • Tina A.

OMG the best thing I've had in Portland so far! ! The Reggie Deluxe -perfectly soft buttery biscuits -juicy fried chicken with light outer crisp and the perfect amount of seasoning, not too salty or overbattered /overcooked at all! -melty cheese -fried egg -DELICIOUS GRAVY! This is the best gravy in the world! ! You must try this place, it will certainly not disappoint! !

    (5)
  • Jennie K.

All you need to know is The Reggie Deluxe. This is one of the best biscuit breakfast sandwiches I've ever had, actually I take that back. It is THE best biscuit breakfast sandwich I've ever had. It's not the best biscuit I've had, but the complete sandwich is delicious! The Reggie Deluxe is basically a biscuit breakfast sandwich with fried chicken, bacon, cheese, and egg and smothered with gravy (your choice of sausage or mushroom gravy). Make sure to add extra gravy to your Reggie Deluxe because you are going to want every morsel to be covered in that scrumptious sauce. I seriously wanted to lick the gravy off the plate but alas I was sharing my dish with other people. The Reggie Deluxe is quite heavy so you should seriously consider sharing it with one (or two) other people. If I ever come back to Portland, I will make sure to make a stop at Pine State Biscuits.

On point fried chicken sandwich, unfortunately Portland set the bar so high that I couldn't give them 5 stars but a solid 4 for sure. A must if you're ever in Portland.

If you like biscuits, you must try this place. If you like gravy, you must try this place. If you like biscuits and gravy with a piece of fried chicken and an egg on top, then you HAVE to try this place. Awesome joint that executes a simple and traditional dish perfectly. The Reggie deluxe and the money ball are absolutely amazing. This is a great restaurant that you got to check out if you haven't already been there.

Have you ever eaten something SO delicious that you get SO ANGRY while eating your meal? This is what happened to my boyfriend when we dined here. After a 7 mile hike and a max station ride, we came to Pine State Biscuits for the Portland Hype! I am a HUGE biscuits and gravy fan - so this place was a MUST GO TO SPOT when visiting the city. I got the Money Ball which is simply biscuits and gravy with an over easy egg on top. It was the perfect size for me and thinking about it now makes me drool. Best biscuits and gravy EVER. I am extremely sad that I cannot get this meal at least once a week. Boyfriend got the Reggie - Fried Chicken, Bacon, Egg, Biscuits, and Gravy. His first comment, "Am I supposed to eat it like a breakfast sandwich?" There were no second comments because he was too busy being angry about how good it was. This location is newer so it was not as packed as we thought it would be. Also came around 1PM, so it was a bit after brunch/lunch time on a week day. Service was great, the guy behind the counter definitely answered all our questions politely. There was LOTS of hustle and bustle in the back though, saw those guys pounding out biscuits like no other! COME EAT HERE! IT'S DELICIOUS. We stayed on the East Side of Portland and the Max Station drops you off maybeeeee half a mile away at Covention Center, so the walk was easy.. and totally worth it.

Are you kind of annoyed people keep telling you to try Pine State Biscuits? Well, don't be. Those people are trying to help you help yourself. Get biscuit high. Go on a biscuit journey. It's basically an odyssey of the mind kind of experience. This order-at-the-counter spot on NE Schuyler is a good location to check out if you don't want to wait in line on Alberta. Although, I think the word's gotten out - there wasn't anywhere to sit at 11am on a Saturday. So, get your biscuit to-go, then lean up against the wall and read 15 minutes worth of New York Times articles on your phone (that's how long it takes). Then, voilà: biscuit heaven. Cherubs will basically dance for you as you eat these things... a perfectly delectable biscuit... softly fried and yet moist, tender chicken... The apple butter on the Chattfield is thick and divine - almost spicy, even. I'm going to try every god damn one of these things. I'm on the Portland biscuit wagon. GET ON BOARD.

I had to visit Pine Street Biscuits after reading the reviews and seeing all those mouth watering photos. This place is in a great location off of Broadway so there is available parking close by. I was pleasantly surprised. When I walked in it smelled great! The space is small with minimal seating since this is mainly a takeout location. There were only two people in front of me. Ordered "The Reggie". A split fresh biscuit, topped with a fried chicken breast, bacon, cheese and sausage gravy. A masterpiece and finger licking good. :-) The place is very clean. My order was ready in 7 minutes. I also got a Stumptown coffee which was delicious. Couldn't find a thing unpleasant about this visit and I'll be back. 2015-46

Uh... ummm... how can I be like customer number 4 or 5 at the most?!!! early morning start for me, place opened up at 7:00 Biscuits and gravy, simple enough order. Wait was decent enuf, no problem there.. enjoy the day's news offerings. My plate came to be absolutey lukewarm.... I hadn't the heart to complain. Seriously... some thing is not going on smoothly in the back end. No queues to push them, no pressure whatsoever.. by 7:20, I was making a grimace and crestfallen. I loooooove PSB with a passion. No bueno for me.

I had some friends visiting and they wanted to check out Pine State Biscuits. I had never been so we were all excited to get some brunch. We arrived on a Friday around 11am fully expecting to wait in line. As anticipated, there was a line just around the corner of the building. The line didn't look too bad so we joined. The line moved quite a bit at first, but as soon as we made it into the little alley it stopped. As we got closer to the door we realized there was a ton of open seating so the hold up was at the register. We quickly observed, I mean we had plenty of time, the lady at the register was also making drinks. She was barely at the register despite the line around the corner. When we finally made it to the register after an hour in line, she disappeared. She didn't say a word, she was just gone and then she came back and made a few drinks, still not even an acknowledgement. She chatted with some co-workers and then finally came to take our order. We had to repeat part of our order because she wasn't listening. We tried to swallow our annoyance as we headed for the table. The food took about 10 minutes to hit the table, which felt like an eternity after being in line for an hour. I ordered the hash ups, I know who goes to the biscuit place and doesn't order a biscuit, but the hash ups was exactly what I wanted. Unfortunately, it was a huge disappointment. There was absolutely no seasoning at all and when I added some of the table salt it didn't help. The steak also had a weird marinade and was chewy. I was so sad and disappointed and starving! I covered it in Ketchup and ate it anyway. I ordered my little one the special of the day, a blueberry biscuit. The biscuit was swimming in blueberries and whipped cream, her 2 year old heart was so happy. You really can't screw up a biscuit with berries and whipped cream and they didn't. One of my friends ordered the Reggie and she enjoyed it. My other friend got the shrimp and grits, which a friend had recommended. They were good, but not the best I've ever had. I would not return to this location based on our experience. I don't mind waiting in line when your business is appreciated and the staff is working hard, but the neglect was blatant. It is really upsetting to make people wait for an hour in line because one person is working slowly. The food definitely was not worth the wait.

Want some math? You get some math. Fucking delicious biscuits + No lines = Win. Sure this version of Pine State lacks some of the charm that the other joints have. It's not as rustic or hipster or put together. But they make the same delicious biscuit sandwiches, they have cheerwine, and as an added bonus - TV's. Rumor has it that they play Blazer games. Why would I go wait in line somewhere else when I could get the same thing here? The location? Oh sure, it's weird. But I'll do weird to get my biscuit fix. Never been? Need a recommendation? Skip the Reggie. It's really good, no doubt, but man, my jam is the Wedgie - a biscuit piled high with a wedge of iceberg, a fried green tomato, fried chicken and either ranch or blue cheese. BOOM! That, and the McIsley (Chicken, pickles, mustard and honey) are the two best sandos on the menu. Hands-down. I just wish they would start serving shots of gravy. Like their Moneyball, only just a shot of gravy. The Money-Shot. Mmmm....

Ehhhh it was okay... Just kidding! Pine State Biscuits was a great choice for brunch. The only down side is that this place is tiny. At first we thought we'd gotten the wrong address, because all we saw was car dealerships and industrial looking garages. It looks like they'll also start serving pizza in the summer, but there's more than enough yummy goodness on the menu now. I decided to be greedy and ordered the shrimp and grits, and a side of fried chicken for $3. The prices were more than reasonable and I'm glad I decided to be greedy, because the shrimp and grits was so flavorful. It had big pieces of shrimp, and thick, crispy bacon bites... *drools* Delicious down to the last bite. The fried chicken was excellent. Juicy, crispy chicken breast with just enough flavor on the breading. I know people rave about the gravy and the biscuit, and I wish I could've tried EVERYTHING. We came here around 11:15 and it was packed, but the crowd quickly died down around noon. Seems like 12:30 or so is a good time to come. Don't be discouraged if you see a long line. They do a great job managing the crowd, getting everyone seated and getting food out. Everyone was super friendly and helpful. Get a biscuit and some jam while you're waiting!

Awesome place! Asked for an over medium egg on my sandwich and the second I cut into it, the yolk burst out all over my sandwich. Something not a lot of places can accomplish, as simple as the task can be. Awesome biscuits, awesome vibe. Will come back.

Pine State Biscuits is a Portland must! I was happy to find out there was a location near our airbnb location that we just walked. This location is kind of hard to find, but it provides an intimate take out experience. I assume the other locations are sit down and a little more formal, but I appreciated how everything went. I'm sure the menu is exactly the same anyway. I picked up The Hash Up with steak, with a biscuit and strawberry jam. The hash was to die for!! Great hot breakfast combo with very well made steak. I knew I had to grab a biscuit, because it's in the name of the restaurant! I had a hard time deciding what I wanted the biscuit to go with but the jam was good. The biscuit was buttery, thick in size and made perfectly. Girl loves her carb. It was a satisfying meal. Customer service was great too! It was also inexpensive.

The other pine state biscuit locations are by far superior. The seating is very horrible and awkward at this location. It's like they want to put less and less seating every time they open up a new location even though they know it's going to be busy. The longest skinniest tables, it was comparable to eating off of a snowboard. They only had 3 long skinny tables to choose from and only one of the tables was made so you can face the people you came with. I couldn't fit my entire meal on the table and I had to have strangers lingering around staring at me while they waited for a seat to open up. There is no where for them to wait, so they just flooded the dining area and looked unpleasant. I felt uncomfortable because I was saving a spot for my girlfriend that was on her way, that I already ordered for, and every 3 minutes I had to upset families by telling them they couldn't take my chair. I shouldn't have to feel that uncomfortable in an establishment. I wouldn't recommend any group of people eat here. They didn't have chocolate milk, they said it's not available at this location, probably because most people know to order to go and don't get beverages. That's fine, I'll just have water. Then they told me they didn't have the cinnamon roll that was advertised at the counter on display that they told me they had been out of for a few hours... So then take it out of your display, right? Now let's get to the good stuff. The food was great just like all the other locations and they had the friendliest female worker that was going around and talking to all the tables and helping confused people order and maneuver in the cramped seating area. She also talked up some desserts for me and convinced me to come back to try the cinnamon roll. I really love pine state biscuits and wanted to enjoy this location. They will be opening a sizzle pie next door and it looks like they will be combining the two locations into one building, so maybe later this summer I will try it again once they have a bigger less cramped space.

Kick ass biscuit sandwich! When I come back to Portland will definitely be coming back here. So glad I caught some breakfast here before heading to the airport. I tried the Reggie Deluxe - which was biscuit + fried chicken+ bacon and cheese + delicious fingerlicking gravy! I couldn't help but dip and redip my biscuit into the gravy which was amazing. The fried chicken was really nice and juicy. With a mason jar full of freshly squeezed orange juice - it was pretty satisfying morning. :) My friend and I also shared an order of hash browns which probably wasn't needed but still pretty good, nothing too to special. Come here for the biscuit sandwich for sure you will not be disappointed!

Out of towner & the hotel recommended this place. It was so-so: the biscuits were not anything special and the gravy wasn't anything to write home about. Friendly service & I do recommend the cinnamon roll!

I lived in Atlanta for five years. While living there, I came to the conclusion that what typifies southern cooking more than anything else isn't BBQ, or Chicken Fried Steak, or boiled peanuts or collard greens. It's biscuits and gravy. I found some good ol' southern cuisine in Portland at Pine State B&G. The fact this place is across the street from a church actually made me think I was back in the Peach State for a second. I had a Reggie which is a very healthy bacon cheese and fried chicken sandwiched in between a biscuit with some mushroom gravy on top. For that plus a coffee I think it was somewhere around eleven bucks. Not bad for the amount of grub you're getting. Having walked there from downtown and back I felt the calories were needed, anyway. Honest. This location is small. When I walked in and ordered "for here," I was a bit apprehensive I wouldn't have a seat by the time it was ready, but the diners moved in and out all right. So does it rival my experiences in the south? In theory, yes. In practice, there is something about a region that can't ever be reproduced outside the region, and if you're playing Ray Charles' "Georgia On My Mind," that kind of proves my point. But aesthetics aside, it's a close enough approximation and that's good enough for me.

"Hash Ups: Golden hash browns with chopped country ham, grilled onions, mushrooms and melted cheese" Sounds great, huh? But what I got was a Denny's style hashbrown cake with a dollop of tasteless gravy on top. I could *see* bits of ham, mushrooms, and (unmelted) cheese in the gravy, but I sure couldn't *taste* these things. There's a picture on the web site that's supposed to resemble what I got, but surely doesn't. Training issue?

Seiously yum! This is the kind of local business I love. They pick one thing and do it right. Our favorite thing was the biscuits and sausage gravy, it was just so good. They make their own sausage and biscuits, so be sure to get those things. We also had the hash browns and they were cooked to perfection. The cornmeal blueberry pancakes were also very good. If I get the chance to visit again, I want to try the fried chicken biscuit sandwich, it looked great. Such nice friendly staff too.

Ordered the Reggie deluxe with sausage gravy and no cheese...and let's just say I think I found my favorite brunch spot. the gravy was jus perfect..it was creamy, thick, good amount of sausage. Best I've ever had..biscuit of course made fresh and it was moist and the bomb....Had a great menu which I will be back tomorrow to order something diff. I'm sure it will not disappoint..make sure you come early since they do open til 3pm. Line gets a little long...we got there early so we got lucky......enjoy..

Delish biscuits and hash browns. Awesome customer service. You can order their speciality biscuits or customize your own. Keep in mind the hash browns take about 10 minutes to make, but one order is enough for 2-3 people. My husband ordered the "Reggie" speciality biscuit and I ordered mine with plain old egg and cheese. The biscuit is soft on the inside and crispy on the outside. This is also a convenient location and it's easy to find parking nearby. My only regret is that there is not a closer location!
