What is better than heavenly biscuits? Heavenly biscuits smothered in delicious gravy, topped with fried chicken, bacon, melted cheddar, and of course an egg. This is the Reggie deluxe and it is every bit as good as you imagine it would be. Atmosphere is very casual- order at the counter, seat yourself, and be courteous in not hanging out too long at the table if others are waiting. There are about 10 seats at the counter, a half dozen two-seater tables and a big table for groups of 4 or more. Coffee is self-serve and top notch. They have some adorable cocktails for the tasting. I was tempted to try the Poor Man's Hattan (well bourbon and cheer wine), just for the novelty. Whatever you do come hungry and post-workout....portions are hearty, and it tastes so good you'll definitely want to clean your plate.

Meh. We came on a Monday morning, no line, no problem with ordering. Good service, a bit spendy, then a long wait for the food. I ordered the biscuits and meat gravy, my brother ordered the chicken club and my boyfriend got the steak hash up. Having lived it the south the biscuits don't hold up, neither does the gravy, corn meal in biscuits isn't my thing and the gravy is very northeastern. The chicken club was good but the best dish was the steak hashup. We saw someone get kicked off the patio for having a dog, so heads up this place doesn't follow normal pdx patio rules. I don't care one way or another but putting up a sign would be better than having the staff have to run off every dog bringing customer. Honestly it kind of butts in on the meal. The fact that this is biscuit focused and the biscuits suck really is what gets this place 3 stars. I won't bother again.

Food is very heavy. Coma-inducing, comfort food that will have you wearing sweats the rest of the day. Good quality food though and an interesting dynamic. Glad I went but probably would never go back.

This review written by my 5 month old dog Agnes: "The food looked absolutely delicious, but they just wouldn't let me have any. After my owner had waited for an outdoor table, ordered food, and finally received it somebody came outside and told me I had to leave. This was very confusing because I've never been told I wasn't allowed to sit in the outside seating area at any restaurant in Portland. I was just laying down waiting for some crumbs... not bothering a soul... Please be aware that this is NOT a dog friendly establishment." The food was good, but I thought the management could have handled the situation much better than they did. It's generally assumed that outdoor seating is dog friendly. If it's not you should probably post a sign so people don't wait 20+ minutes just to be told they have to leave.

I've driven by this place many times and decided to go in on a Monday around noon. A long line greeted us, but it went quickly and gave me a chance to look over the menu. I ordered the Reggie Deluxe and the bf ordered the Moneyball, each with a coffee. There were two choices for full caf coffee, which I appreciated. Then we sat and waited. And waited. We saw people who were behind us in line sit down. We waited some more. The other people got their food first, and it was the same as ours. At this point, we had been waiting for 45 minutes. I went and spoke to the food runner, inquired about our food, and was told "it should be out soon." No acknowledgment of how long it was taking, or if they misplaced our order, or even a half-assed apology. It was about an hour until we got our food. It was tasty and filling. The same woman I spoke with then delivered our food. Again, no smile or apology. The bf went and spoke with a manager afterwards. Pretty standard communication. Now, I've worked in food service for 7 years, so we tipped 20% when we paid. I wish we hadn't given the service. Probably will not return.

I saw this place featured on some tv show so wanted to try. I'm always looking for good breakfast places. The wait line was long which sometimes is a good sign. Unfortunately that wasn't the case for us. I was not impressed. I had their 'stump town'coffee...big mistake a cheap bitter blend. I hear about stump town coffee so I wanted to try it. I don't know if that is what stump town always tastes like, I hope not. It reminded me of the cheap brands you get at some chain restaurants. I will never know I won't order again. The biscuit was nothing special. The chicken was dry, overcooked, and flavorless. The gravy was the only thing that had a little flavor and there wasn't enough to have some with each bite. Sorry to say it's not worth another visit.

The food here is fantastic, of course. However the speed the food comes out is painfully slow. I came here--not during busy hour--and we waited patiently for over 30 minutes for a 2 plates. I've came to pine state before and know that the food takes a little time, especially since they are a very popular restaurant. There was something definitely wrong here--I will go to a different location next time.

Portland you guys do have some of the most awesome place to eat at... Spent my birthday wknd with my family in Portland, Or PDX. Before my trip I had made a long list of all the places I wanted to eat and sure enough, I didn't eat at any of the places I wanted to eat because I didn't have time. Pine State Biscuits was not on my list. It was my baby sister that wanted to take me here. I'm always up to try something different. I don't eat at a lot of locally owned business and so I didn't even know about the "buss your own table" I had to laff at that LOL. Over all the experience was great. I enjoyed my meal, although it was a little too heavy for me. I'm more of a French toast, eggs, & sausage kind of girl. Oh & the place is small... it's not good for big groups unless you wanna sit out side and freeze (coming from a Cali girl I'm not use to Portland's weather) =)

You would think that a place that had Biscuit in their name would be putting out a knock your socks off product, unfortunately that was not the case for me. Had the biscuits and gravy with an egg, The Moneyball, honestly left me wanting my Money Back, gravy was somewhat flavorful but not quite warm, egg was okay, but the biggest letdown for me was actually the biscuits. Not sure if they were a day or two old or just over kneaded but I found them to be hard and dry and not very flavorful. As far as the décor, they are trying to achieve something but I think they really should try to achieve getting the dust off the fixtures as well as the kitchen hood, almost as thick as the gravy. Will I go back?? Seriously doubt it

Okay, it may have been while since I've been here last, but it was sure yummy this morning! I had a hard time deciding if I should have the Reggie or something else since it had been about 4 years since we had been there last, and we had to eat it while it was raining out of a to go container on our lap last time. Now that they have a bigger eating area, however, I actually got to enjoy my Reggie in all of its awesomeness! The biscuits are to die for (and I don't really even like biscuits)--all moist and fluffy and browned and warm. Then there's the bacon--done perfectly--not too crisp and not limp either. The chicken was perfectly fried and crispy yet moist and seasoned well! I actually ate my Reggie in half--one side of the biscuit with the bacon and sausage gravy and the other side of the biscuit with the chicken and sausage gravy. Beautiful weather for a drive down to begin my day with a piece of heaven named Reggie...and my husband of course! :)

No matter how many locations there are in Portland, it is always busy at any given time that they are open. My friend and I were hungry for a savory meal after the Chocolate Festival...we wanted real food. She has never been to Pine State Biscuits before and I have yet to check out the new Division location. Parking was difficult to find with all the businesses and the popularity of the Richmond area, I remember when there wasn't anything there! You order at the counter then take your number to an available bar/bench/table. We lucked out, a family as getting up from a bench so we waited for them to finish busing their table and sat down. It was busy at 1:30pm on a Sunday afternoon, it took a little while for the food to come out. I normally get the Reggie but had a mad craving for a hot dog, they have an Andouille sausage hot dog on the menu. I didn't care for the taste or texture of their cornmeal batter--I did like that the serve it with honey and I declined the mustard, but wished they had a ketchup with it. I think I'll stick with the Reggie next time. Three stars for the inconvenience of parking and waiting, however, four stars for the biscuit sandwiches and that they have Cheer Wine.

I was excited to go to Pines, however my meal was ok. I ordered the Chatfield. It was good. Everything was hot, it was just too sweet for my taste. I would come back and try a different sandwich. My organic apple cider was good also. Something with gravy is more of my style.

Pine State Biscuits is a nice little spot. My husband and I stopped in for our second time this past weekend. We hale from Seattle and we had gone the first time on a recommendation of some folks at our church and absolutely loved it! We are apparently not the only people who felt this way as the line was even longer than it was on our first visit, which was probably about 20 min to wait in line to order and another 10 to wait to get our food. This could be improved by more space for them to work in since they are just so popular, also maybe a designated waiting area for to go food, cause we kinda felt in the way for a bit before someone recommended waiting near the back wall. Fried chicken and pickles is one of my favorite combinations so I chose the McIsley and my husband went with the Reggie (I cant remember the full name but it was the extreme one with all the bells and whistles) and he loved it! Overall, if you have the time to wait it's a great little spot. Friendly staff, stupendous food, and a funky atmosphere!

Best biscuits ever! We got the reggie with sausage gravy and a couple biscuits with honey and butter spread. DELICIOUS. Also the staff, especially the manager, were so polite and attentive. honestly, I couldn't have asked for more from this place. My only regret is that I didn't order the bloody Mary, which looked fantastic. They are open late (til 11) which makes it a great stop after apex or beermongers just across the street. Tell your friends!!

Definitely worth the wait! The Reggie deluxe is by far the best dish here, but you can't go wrong with anything on the menu

From the Pine St. myself and had to try it while in town. It was great and lived up to my expectations. A must while in Portland. Go early and expect to wait, line is out the door.

This was my first brunch in Portland. I ordered the Reggie Deluxe. Homemade biscuits topped with fried chicken that was super moist (I would have liked a little more spice), bacon, cheese and a fried egg. What not to like and it was nice and comforting on a cool Portland morning. The only bummer was the long line but it was fun watching them make the biscuits. I will get up earlier next time and hopefully beat the crowds!

Unfortunately with all the hype. Not impressed. Our food wasn't HOT. WE ordered the wegie and the chicken was Luke warm. Eh...it wasn't that great. And then we ordered the shitake mushroom double down. Again not that hot. Bisquits are thick and doughy not flaky and hot. Disappointed. Probably won't go back:(

Mine and my bf's first meal upon arriving in Portland. We came around lunch time and there was no wait and plenty of covered outdoor seating with heat lamps. I ordered the Reggie and a classic bloody Mary, and all I can say about this meal is YUM; it was absolutely delicious. I loved the combination of the warm biscuit, crispy fried chicken, bacon, cheese, and a hefty serving of gravy. I washed it all down with their savory and spicy bloody Mary. This is definitely a spot I will surely visit next time I'm in town.

My mouth is watering while I am writing this review. I have had most of their sandwiches and really one is better then the other. It is definitely a must stop. I would tell you to share one because there are a few other great stops on the same street for foodies like salt and straw!

This place came highly recommended as a must try while in Portland. We went to the northeast district location, but the line was around the block and we had a pretty tight timeline so we found this location. Was really hard to find parking and the line also ended up being pretty long which would not have even been that bad waiting if we had not been stuck behind 20 yr old stones for 30 minutes! Yes I mean we are at a biscuit place, I should have expected it, but wow. When we finally ordered (after the stoners ordered EVERYTHING off the menu) we realized what hold the line up is the the girl who takes the orders and money also has to make the drinks. The place is seat yourself, with an outside patio, and they bring the food to you number. I had biscuits with the mushroom gravy which I did not like but the biscuits with honey butter and apple butter were amazing. I believe my bf got a biscuit with fried chicken and a few other things on it which he loved and kept him full almost all day. I would go back again, just maybe not during peak hours (if that exists!).

Its all about the base. The base of this place is the biscuits. Which can lead to a little confusion because it says Fried Chicken on a big sign lit up and visible from the street. Then there is the menu. Well its limited. I am not saying that is bad but it seems like a little more could be done. I am always skeptical when I see things like we use this other restaurants Pork or meat then we just pit it on a biscuit. Admittedly I stayed away from those options because of my own phobias. The good news the Reggie their most popular biscuit sandwich is like a open faced sandwich of deliciousness. There is bacon fried chicken and gravy all coming together under a biscuit that didnt skimp on the butter. I dont know call it the cardiac killer but I think my belly says it was worth it. Cheesy fries were not so cheesy. I guess if I am paying two dollars more for cheese I expect a little more cheese. Here's my three star reasoning cause the food is four star all the way. I am turned off by the get your own food bus your own table get your own water. But before hand give me a tip. What exactly am I tipping for? You taking my order? Go for the food just not a regular stop. Sorry I want to go out and be served good food. If I wanted to pick up and take out maybe I would have felt differently.

Delicious fried chicken on a biscuit with bacon, cheddar and Apple butter! Yum! Warm and filling...also recommend the pecan pie with whipped cream. Even on a cold, rainy day the patio is heated and comfortable. Don't let the line deter you, it moves quickly.

Danger Will Robinson - This isn't worth the trip. Okay so I bought the stuff from the DDD show on this restaurant, so we went with high hopes. I ordered sweet tea, and biscuits and gravy. The tea was very very weak. More like colored water with sugar. The biscuits and gravy were awful. Not the worst I've ever had, but certainly a contender for being the worst.

We came here hungry and left full. The queue on a Saturday morning was long but the food was worth the wait. I had a biscuit with egg and cheese. The biscuits are a pretty decent size, and tasted lovely.

Biscuits glorious biscuits! Reggie Deluxe! Street parking plentiful, seating inside is not. However, you get seated pretty quick and people don't seem to linger. Gotta check it out.

After seeing it on TV, and visiting from Dallas....we HAD to. Truth be told, this location is new--and is FAR from ideal. Teeeeny tiny, with long lines, and six tables. We hope that that changes. We waited in line maybe 15 minutes, then 15 for food. Then the rub---no where to sit....NO where to eat. (Portland is a bus yourself town, not a service town). The server saw my panic....and my frustration. She did the best she could to help. We shared a table with another couple, which is a humbling experience. The food was great! The Reggie was a hit, and the hashbrowns were very nice. For a restaurant--a new one at that--the ceilings were filthy, and cobwebs were everywhere in the rafters.

    (4)
  • Kaelin B.

All of their biscuit sandwiches looked amazing. I got the Chatfield. Honestly, their apple butter is some of the best, if not the best, I've ever had.

  • Stamper W.

Great place! It's counter service/bus-your-own table. Sometimes you have to wait a while, but went there early afternoon on a sun and ordered and sat down in like 10 min. Grits were great! Mushroom gravy was tasty! Had the build-your-own biscuit sandwich with the sausage patty! Really good, well spiced/seasoned patty! Perfect sizes! If you don't mind the wait, it is completely worth it!

  • Renee O.

Food was five stars hands down. Amazing biscuits! It's a must go to for breakfast. Four stars because the seating/ambience isn't great, and neither was the lady at checkout. It's nothing fancy here, but you don't need fancy for good food and they prove that :)

I've wanted to try this place for a few years now...I finally had the chance this weekend and now regret that it took me this long. I ordered the Reggie deluxe and was below away... My wife had their hash brown concoction that was amazing.. Do yourself a favor don't wait like I did... Put it on the shortlist.

I am soooo Mad, they had the experience, they are already busy because of triple DDD show. There biscuits are great, but I could not believe and still can not stop thinking about the horrible horrible seating, a brand new facility and it was designed by an absolute imbecilic non business person. Ridiculous bottleneck at the register, and Napkin holder and dirty dish holders. The most insane design of any place I have ever been in all my travels. That makes this a double header, First and Last, great biscuits or not.

  • Monsieur N.

This place is great. It features a long line, cashiers who are annoyed with you and tasty luke-warm gravy on a rich, buttery biscuit that is heaven. I would kill for that gravy it is so good, well, if it was served on the high side of warm. I think they know this and want to keep Portland safe. Oh, and if you ask for a sausage on the biscuit they'll be sure to put it on the side and glare at you as you walk out. 10 out 10 would recommend!

  • Vivian W.

I had high expectations for pine state because of all the hype but I thought it was just good. I didn't get anything of their special items but it was just average for me. I do appreciate the cleanness of the food and cheap prices. And really enjoyed their gravy, would highly recommend it. But overall, it was worth a try but not my favorite bunch place...the search continues...

I have been such a fan of this place for so long until today My father was visiting from GA and wanted to return here for the 2nd day in a row. When we arrived at 1:30pm you were out of eggs--there's a New Seasons just a few blocks away. You can't really call yourselves an American breakfast place and not have eggs. Seriously. My dad got a sausage and biscuit minus the egg and cheese he wanted and well, I had water. Very disappointing experience today.

  • Curt D.

The food was pretty good once we got a chance to eat it. WAY too small of a place and WAY too many people trying to get in there. Yet, the staff was friendly and patient. More stars if they would expand the square feet to match the crowds. Just a personal thing, but I am never at ease to fully enjoy a meal when I am perched on a bar stool, elbow to elbow with the masses.

    (4)
  • Matthew W.

Wait in a too long line for a delicious fried chicken on a biscuit before enjoying your liesurely second cup of coffee under the intense stare of hungry-eyed dogs stuck in that same too long line.

    (3)
  • Kevin M.

Dare I say better than the original? Flavors are savory and creamy beyond compare. The indoor space is larger and more comfortable than Alberta. Sweet tea is a must-get but don't fool yourself w/ the fries -- you'll need at least 4 people.

    (5)
  • Tim M.

Reggie = Delish. First bite blew me off my seat. So simple yet so complex. They could ease off the black pepper a bit, hence the 4 stars, but still a terrific meal.

    (4)
  • Conrad B.

Dang, I should probably pick less popular times to come here - have waited 30 minutes, and 60 minutes now! Never had to wait much at the now-closed Belmont location, or the alive-and-well Alberta location, but I don't mind waiting at a place where I know the food will be solid. Of all the times I have been to PSB, I've always gotten the same sandwich The Chatfield ($7). Sandwich comes on a biscuit (duh), with a nice piece of fried chicken, bacon, cheddar cheese, and delicious apple butter. Oddly, I'm not the biggest fan of biscuits and gravy, so I have yet to try a gravy sandwich. I will one of these days! I'm a huge fan of The Chatfield because it evokes all the feelings of brunch on a plate (well, adding an egg is optional...) - sweetness of the apple butter, saltiness/richness of the cheddar+bacon, some heat from the chicken breading, the freshness of the chicken itself, and finally, a really darn good biscuit. I find the apple butter balances out an otherwise very rich set of flavors. Nothing wrong with a rich set of flavors, but, I like that this is a bit mellower. Wish it was open later than 3PM!

Great food! Great staff! Definitely a unhealthy habit of mine, I'll be back soon. The best thing on the menu is the Reggie Deluxe, and the runner up is the BBQ Biscuit.

Perfect starter for city adventurers! While one of our (large) group went a bit overboard on biscuits, the majority had a solid feed and didn't need to eat again until dinner. Seriously, these foods are filling. Get biscuits and hash.

3.5 stars. Sorry to all my friends who told me that when in Portland, I must come here. If you are ready to go drive that tractor all day on the farm or just feel like eating some comfort food, come here. Just don't plan on having to eat the rest of the day. Hubs had the Reggie. It was good, the fried chicken was pretty juicy, but I couldn't eat more than 2 bites of this. The mushroom gravy was tasty, but I didn't like it with the Reggie. I had the Moneyball: biscuits & gravy with an over easy egg. I thought the sausage gravy was better than the mushroom, but overall, I really wasn't wowed. I've had better biscuits and better gravy. We came here at 8 'o clock on a Saturday morning and there was no wait.

Any food that makes me say "My sweet Jesus" multiple times and makes me venture out in the drizzle in my synthetic hair must be worth it! I had the Reggie and the sausage gravy on top of the perfectly seasoned chicken was awesome! My spawn had the corn dog and she was barely willing to share the honey with mustard seeds that came with it. Not much of a wait at all and we got seats right away. Sooooooo, when are you coming to Oakland? :)

Always enjoy PSB when I'm in PDX. My boys and I make sure we go there at least once. The new location is very nice and much more convenient than the Belmont location.

So the first time I had a Pine State Biscuit was at the Portland State University Saturday Market, they set up a booth there and people were lined up on a cold Saturday morning. I tried the simple biscuits and gravy. Their biscuits are a little different than your regular biscuits I'm used to. It's a little more bread like, less "made with pancake batter like". Not sweet like a scone but it's texture reminds me of the mouth feel of a scone. With that said the star was the Gravy, Sausage gravy, thick but not too thick, and just thin enough to penetrate but not soak and "soggify" the biscuit. So today my family and I tried going to one of their restaurants. The food is great, the people working their are nice but the service is very slow. I ordered the Reggie Deluxe (Fried Chicken, cheese, bacon, gravy, topped with an egg), Really enjoyed the sandwich but I actually enjoyed the Fries more. They have a Fries order that I think I will get next time (had them plain today), topped with cheese and gravy, can't even imagine the calories on that one....

I'm afraid I'm going to disagree, strongly, with most of the reviews I'm reading about this place. First of all, who waits in long lines to get into a place where you aren't even served, but it's basically a DIY cafe? Stand in line, commit overhead chalk menu to memory. Place order, get little flag to place on non existent table. Have the staff try to hand you your beverage before you find a table, unless you want coffee or water, in which case you fetch it yourself. Finally get table, learn you must now find utensils and napkins. Finally get your meal. Generous portions of something called "country ham" ( which is pretty much salty ham jerky) or other forms of meat. Complete meal and bus your own table and, get out. Oh, and there's a tip jar, for some odd reason ( you are doing all the work). If this is a Portland highlight the restaurant scene must be very bleak. Travelers to Portland, beware. That Fiere guy is wrong. Avoid this place. Resist when your Portland friends wax on about this great funky restaurant. Wrestle them to the ground and pour coffee down their throats until they come to their senses. ( If it's Pine States coffee you wilk prevail, cuz their coffee is plain awful!)

    (2)
  • Jason A.

The food is great, but I struggle with the restaurant culture of minimal service offered. They only have one indoor table that sits more than two people together, which doesn't make it very family friendly. The outdoor space has more, but it's not heated. The servers will bring you food, but not silverware or napkins. You order at the counter, and kind of linger over people eating until they are done. If I give it another go, it would be for takeout

Back in SE! Yay! While I miss the Belmont location, this location is bright and lively. Same wonderful biscuits and fried chicken. Coffee is great too!

Very bad experience at Pine State this morning--both biscuits I ordered (one with ham and egg, and one plain with butter and jam on the side) weren't warm enough to melt butter and the ham was so incredibly salty as to be nearly inedible. Probably won't risk another visit.

Delicious food, sad about the things I saw. After I ordered I stepped back towards the entrance. They have a little window view of the kitchen. They had some biscuits sitting out on the counter with a fly just camping out the whole time I waited, while the employee just stood there next to said biscuits texting on his cell phone. Not very sanitary. I'll eat my food regardless, unless there's a surprise in it. But you might want to keep the phones out of the kitchen and the biscuits in the oven. Very dirty.

The best breakfast or brunch food in Portland. Everything we ordered this morning was perfect, I could sit there all day and eat. It is a quick service concept so there is no table service except food running. Thats just an FYI. If you are in Portland for any reason you must stop by.

Kay so i went here for my birthday lunch. We waited for about a half an hour. I got the reggi deluxe.. IT WAS FANTASIC, The Biscuits YUMMM!!!! fried chicken palate spicy but not burn your mouth spicy. The reason i gave it a four because THE SEATING. YOU GUYS NEED TO EXPAND THE DINING AREA, we had to cram in 6 ppl in a 4 seater. not cool dude... not cool. The food was good. but the seating and the wait was ehhh.. not a fan. Thats why i gave a four. :)

I've heard so many good things about Pine State biscuits that when I finally went there I was a little disappointed. I had stopped into the other location previously but was in a bit of a hurry and was unable to wait in line so when we finally decided to come to this location I was ready to wait in line, and that's just what we did. I felt like with the amount of staff working that creating a line and making people wait is almost intentional (because consistently having a line out the door means it must be fantastic right?) The service was so-so and so was the food. It wasn't bad but I certainly wouldn't say it's great. We waited in a line out the door, we waited for our order to come and when we got it you can't help but feel rushed to eat it as the dozens of people still waiting in line longingly watch you, hoping you leave soon so they can get your table. Not to mention they got my biscuit order wrong but I dare not say anything else risk more waiting. If you have the time to wait in line for breakfast or brunch I would suggest Screendoor or Tasty and Sons where the food is worth the wait.

ATMOSPHERE: This is the newest location in the PSB empire, so I was concerned it might be huge and lacking in charm. I was shocked at how small it was. Seating for about 15, +5 at the kitchen-facing counter, +5 at a weird little counter facing the patio. I'm guessing there's more seating on the patio than inside, but I didn't think to count. Overall, it was pretty much what you'd expect from PSB, but maybe slightly less warm and charming than Alberta. I was struggling with a way to describe the ambiance, and it finally occurred to me: If PSB were to open a location at PDX or at the Rose Quarter, it would probably look about like this. SERVICE: Pay when you order, they give you a number, you bus when done. Everybody was nice, no attitudes. FOOD: I've always wanted to try green fried tomatoes, and the menu showed a side for a buck, so why not? Breading was too heavy on cornmeal for me (possibly traditional, I don't know) and too oily. Too salty. Tomato was acidic, but I suppose that's just the way they are when unripe. I didn't care for this at all, but glad I tried it. I had a Butternut Squash Bread that was dusted with powdered sugar, but other than looking nice, it was a disappointment. It was cold, and I don't just mean room temp. It wasn't refrigerator cold though, it was as if it had been sitting in an unheated storage room. Not a big deal, but they really shouldn't serve it like that. It was a bit boring. Some pecans or something would liven it up. Or maybe a dollop of whipped cream. Finally, I had a cinnamon roll that looked great on the specials board. Unfortunately, it was just a cinnamon roll. Like the squash bread, it needed a little something. Nuts, or cream-cheese frosting, or something. It was a bit underbaked at the center, which drives me crazy. Raw food isn't good. But if you like raw cookie dough, this might suit you. Coffee was plentiful and refills were self-serve, so you'll never run out. I love that. That's actually an important criteria I use when deciding where to get breakfast. Was it good? I don't know, coffee isn't something I know much about. It was fine, I guess. A gripe that applies to other locations as well: online menu wasn't a perfect match to the in-store menu. If they're not willing to update the website, they should offer a general description of their fare on the website, rather than presenting a precise menu that isn't valid. PRICE/VALUE: My green fried tomato side was only a buck, so I didn't expect much, but one little slice came as a shock. I mean, even if all you're doing is adding it to a sandwich, this wasn't enough. True, I didn't really want any more, so for me it was fine, but still. The Butternut Squash Bread was barely worth the $3. Obviously $3 doesn't get you much, but this is just sliced off a loaf, and it's nothing special. Compared to what you can get at a real bakery in the $3-$4 range, this wasn't a good value. Cinnamon roll was a horrible value. Five bucks should get you an amazing kick-butt cinnamon roll of the finest quality, but this wasn't. I was shaking my head in dismay. Breakfast sweets are one of my areas of expertise, from a consumer standpoint. I've had cinnamon rolls (and similar baked goods) at all the top-tier portland bakeries, and I'm thinking PSB might be about the worst value in town for this item. I'm slightly angry, but really mostly amused. I mentioned that the atmosphere felt slightly like an airport/arena PSB, and I guess that's what they're aiming for with the pricing too. RESTROOMS: Two single-occupancy restrooms out in the hall, pretty much open to the general public (although discreetly tucked away so that passing transients and druggies aren't likely to notice them). The building is newly remodeled, so the restrooms are modern and cleanish. My door lock was broken though, so had to just get down to business quickly and hope for the best. OVERALL: Glad I finally tried the newest PSB, but can't really recommend it enthusiastically. I feel a little bad about two stars, because it wasn't really awful, but the price I paid for so-so food left me disinclined to give three stars.

We(my spouse and I) work in the industry so we rarely get the chance to go experience a morning out. When we do I love to enjoy a mimosa, something sweet and something savory. I make it the meal most people go out to dinner for, I'm all in. I was excited to try Pine State, I'm new to Portland so I hadn't been to the original in NE. We are early eaters and we arrived shortly after they opened. I was surprised by the size, but there were open tables so I wasn't concerned. I quickly read over the menu and made a selection. (We felt a little rushed to order as there quickly became a line forming behind us, out the door.) I love bacon but not on things, so I requested to substitute an egg for the bacon on the Reggie. Seemed reasonable: protein for protein(eggs are cheaper than bacon). Instead the cashier told me she'd charge me a dollar more for the Reggie Deluxe and just leave off the bacon. She let me know that is how I should order it next time. This interaction lit a fire inside me, I calmly said fine. My spouse ordered the biscuit and gravy(one biscuit on a 10" plate, uncut smothered in gravy to the edge), also disappointing. I preceded to order my son's meal, despite the fact they lack any sort of Children's Menu. I was so off put, I skipped my usual mimosa. The chicken was delicious. The self serve coffee was hot(reason for the two stars). The biscuits reminded me of Grandy's(semi-fast food) and the gravy was just sweet enough to make it kinda gross. No one checked on us once they dropped the food off at our table. They also lack any space to changing station in either restroom. We left bummed that this was how we were starting our day. We won't be back.

The Reggie is so good! I can feel my arteries clogging but it's worth it. We had a bit of a wait but we showed up around brunch time, so it's to be expected. I'm normally not a huge fan of biscuits and gravy but love pine states biscuits and sausage gravy! I can't wait to go back, it's affordable and delicious!

Rude counter guy, sub-par food, uncomfortably hot and crowed. I ordered a sandwich which when I got it looked like a 6 year old with seizures had put it together, all the time standing there listening to the front counter guy be rude to customers. When I saw the single sandwich, I had been waiting 25 minutes for it looked so terrible and was so bland that I threw the slop in the bin and went down to Son of a Biscuit down the street and spent the same amount for a full 3 piece chicken meal with a huge homemade Biscuit(Pine State's looked like a Bisquick biscuit) , pickles, huge side of potato salad and bread, that looked as amazing as it was good and I got to listen to Cypress Hill and The Beastie Boys instead of a rude counter guy talking down to the poor people waiting in line for the slop at Pine State.

Lots of progress to make - I have to say... 30 minutes for an egg breakfast sandwich, coffee grounds in my coffee and lame SE hipsters letting all their hungover/drunk friends cut in line! I am so over the 30 minute stand in line and wait thing for pdx - get over it and pick up the pace picante!

I give this place a 5 star recommendation! Everything on the menu is great! Personally I go simple with the biscuits and portobello mushroom gravy! The flavor is awesome and it is very filling.

I've never really had food like this before because I'm a New Zealander and in my country most of us genuinely believe that places like Carl's Jr and BK represent the pinnacle of American culinary expertise. This assumption is, of course, wrong, and my fellow countrymen should pay a visit to places like Pine State in order to educate themselves on the sheer delight that is a Reggie Deluxe. My wife is from North Carolina and is, naturally, a devout vegan who deplores practically everything south of the Mason Dixon. Despite this, bless her heart, she took me to Pine State for my birthday because she loves me and was able to momentarily put aside her hatred of totally kick ass, boss caliber, next level, turbo charged biscuit and gravy awesomeness. This pretty much sums up my review. My wife could have bought me a Cadillac that day, and that is what I would have showed off. But once I had invited the guys to hop inside the plush leather interior for a tour around beautiful SE Portland, I would have told them about Pine State Biscuits and how I wanted to dip my head in a tub of whatever that gravy was.

Prefect Portland restaurant! Biscuits are light and buttery the menu is amazing biscuit nirvana. After you have exhausted the regular menu hint- Reggie, save room for dessert

Good food, but only come here with a group of two, on a weekday. Seriously, it's not that the line is super long on weekends, but that the place is packed with people waiting for tables - after you order, you have to stand right in the way of the self-serve utensils, hot sauce, and bus tubs. There is only one table for 4 and a handful of two-tops. If you have a group of 3, they will cram you at a table for 2, with 2 people sharing the bench seat and trying to eat off too small of a table. Even if you are a group of two, you may have a group of three on either side of you, so it gets way too tight. I've been here twice and both times found the situation to be unpleasant. I'm just baffled that they didn't think through it better when planning the place. It's just too small for what they are trying to do. That said, the biscuits, the sausage gravy, and the runny-yolk eggs are all great. They do local (or good local-ish) sourcing on their animal products, which is very important to me. Service is fine. I like the window that lets you watch the biscuit making. Parking is probably difficult here.... we walked.

I love this place! I've had a few different items but I have to say the best thing on the menu is the Reggie Deluxe. I also love a place that serves a mimosa in a real glass not some dinky little champagne flute and they did not disappoint with the mason jar serving. If you're planning ahead try and get there early, you will wait, but it's totally worth it.

The boys had the Regina - a definite favorite among many others, I had the Chatfield (I want to go back and get just a biscuit with the apple butter which is amazing), and my picky eater was quite happy with a piece of chicken and hushpuppies. We also tried the fried green tomatoes - delicious, and a side of hash brown with more of their delicious gravy topped us off. Thank goodness we stayed nearby and got to walk off the food coma we were in afterwards.

So Glad I live in Portland and we have these tasty places to go! Pine State Biscuits location on Division is sweet. New, comfortable, BIGGER and the food is outstanding as always. My girlfriend and I both had the Money Shot Biscuits & Gravy which was... $money$. I ate all mine and she ate almost all of hers, nuff said. I grew up in NC, have lived in Portland 20 years and this place makes it feel like home just that much more. Nice work PSB.

This was the first time i have visited the new location since they moved to division. The food was good as always but today everything in the restaurant just seemed off. The atmosphere was boring and plain, all the employees werent engaging or present, and it didnt feel like a quiet little portland restaurant anymore. I guess all good things eventually come to an end. Will still make it once or twice a year for a reggie sandwich.

Wow! over the top delicious. Don't let the warnings of crowded scare you away, just be patient and a booth will open up. We are from San Diego, but have family in Oregon. Pine State Biscuits is a must stop on any visit to Portland.

Really fantastic biscuits, made fresh. Seriously fantastic. Sausage gravy is delicious, expertly seasoned. Excellent perfectly crisp hash browns take up an entire plate - sharing is recommended. Great coffee and fresh OJ. Plan on a crowd - word is spreading.

Wow! That was the best lunch I have had in a great while. I had the basic chicken, bacon and gravy sandwhich. It was fabulous. The gravy was nice and peppery and the fried chicken has a nice spice to it. My husband had the BBQ biscuit. It was also really good with a nice tang to it.

Let me just start off by saying that if you're going to be known for your homemade biscuits, you should probably learn how to make a fluffy, delicious biscuit. I don't get all the reviews claiming how amazing these biscuits are! Maybe I visited on a bad day? The biscuit I got was small, over-baked, dry...just really bad. My husband ordered biscuits and gravy and they put ONE biscuit on his plate! I've never seen biscuits and gravy with only ONE biscuit! The gravy was good but really, ONE biscuit? I just don't get it any of the hype. I guess now I know...and I won't be returning.

The first time I went there I had the Wedgie. The fried green tomato really made the sandwich into something much more than just a fried piece of chicken between two biscuits, lettuce, and dressing. The tastes complemented each other really well. The chicken was juicy, not dry, and had the perfect amount of breading. The biscuits, of course, were buttery and delicious. The second time I went I had the pulled pork (I forget the name...) sandwich. It wasn't the pulled pork I had been used to but it was tasty paired with the coleslaw that had accompanied the 'wich. I would have like the pork to have a bit more of a sauce or something to it. They do have them available however so if I were to go for that option again I would definitely add some sauce to it! I also ordered fries and they were a very large amount, enough to share between two people! The wait times were both decent as I went about half an hour before they closed and on a weekday. All in all, a good experience and worth it for some good grub.

A Casa DeMarco B&B recommended place! A somewhat limited menu but excellent and worth the likely wait. The best biscuits and gravy meat or meatless, a big piece of fried chicken on top and you can even have an egg on top of it all and have a complete and well balanced breakfast!! You won't need to eat again until dinner! The line sometimes stretches out to the sidewalk but it moves pretty fast. Weekends this place is busiest naturally.

This is a great place. It has many sandwiches. There are places that mash up the modern look and the diner experience. Then there are places that eat up that with the great food. I've had Pine State Biscuits. The Pine State Biscuits are wonderful. The high and mighty sandwiches are delicious, tall, and filling. The Reggie sandwich and the other one with apple butter is very appealing. The food is delicious and the service is quick. It is quick and right there. There are so many drinks. I would highly recommend this place. Parking is on the street.

Outstanding! I'm from the south and the sausage gravy was very authentic. The biscuits are good, not the classic while flour buttermilk that you'll get in the south but excellent in their own right. The fried chicken on the "Regie" was outstanding. Go for the "Regie", it is excellent.

Food was great. Everything our table ordered was superb, even down to dessert and ice tea. Don't understand the logic behind the limited service though. Self serve water, coffee, napkins, utensils, condiments... okay, but telling customers to "kindly bus tables" kinda puts me off (though I always do that at cafes out of courtesy).

We found Pine State Biscuits about 6 months ago and if we lived closer to one, we would probably eat there an unhealthy amount of times. My husband and I were able to go to New Orleans for Mardi Gras last year and while we would never ever go back for that celebration, we dream about the food of NOLA all the time. The shrimp and grits at Pine State are so crazy good and remind us of the south. I also scarf down one of the McIsley sandwiches with pickles, stone ground mustard, honey....yum! We have tried to take friends here but we didn't make it before they closed for the day but we were able to take a family member who absolutely loved it and she has talked about it multiple times since then. It's 8:30 at night and I'm full from dinner, but a Pine State Biscuits meals sounds delicious! The wait to order can be long and the seating area only has like 8 tables, but we think it's worth it especially once the weather warms up and we can sit outside.

the steak club. jeez, why don't u just call it ground burger meat slapped on yet another bisket with some lettuce and a chunk of tomato. if its the worst thing on your menu, why bother having it on ur menu? its crap, and a weak attempt to pad a menu with at most 8 items that are actually decent original creations by ur company. other than that, offering this is not variety, it's giving customers crap when they could've chosen something of decent quality, but left with 9 bites of a sandwich they will remember as crap for now on. oh, and isnt it Oregon law to wear beard nets at least? some proactive sanitary cleanliness for the hipster cooks would be appreciated.

This location seems on par with the Alberta location and definitely a big step up from the original location on Belmont. The menu seemed pretty similar to the other locations, and the food was just as delicious (this would definitely not be a good place though if you were more a fan of a simple Continental breakfast). They must be doing a soft opening, it was pretty quiet when we were there earlier in the week. While it's not a huge space, there is definitely a decent amount of room to sit, certainly way more ample than the Belmont location.

We heard the food here was good! We decided to try it on Father's Day, but the line was clear around to the corner. The wait would have been at least 1 1/2 hrs. They do not take names, or ask how many in your party. It is first come first serve, We did try again today around 10 am on a Friday. The line was only to the front door so we were able to enter quickly. That is where everything went down hill! You order off of a menu board, and pay upon entering just like (Mc Donalds.) You have about 2 minutes to decide what you want. After ordering you pour your own drink, coffee etc. and wander around looking for a table. The seating is very limited so you just stand around waiting for someone to finish and leave. We found a table and sat down, but a minute later they asked us to move because they had a party of 6, and we only had 4 people. We waited until they could seat us. They had 1 person move down at the counter so we could sit together, because our"food was ready" but we couldn't find a table. Right after we sat down two small side by side tables opened so we moved again. The seating consists of two short counters, around 5 tables for 2, and one that seats 6. You are literally elbow to elbow especially if the table next to you tried to get a third person in. There is no time to have a conversation with people in your party because people are standing two feet away starring, and waiting for you to finish. We ate as fast as we could because we felt uncomfortable. We Bused our table (because that is what you have to do) and left. This was our first and "last" meal at Pine State Biscuits. My Biscuits & gravy was OK! The other 3 liked their chicken sandwich.

Pine State Biscuits lives up to its reputation! The Reggie Deluxe (Fried chicken, bacon & cheese topped with gravy and fried egg)- was awesome. The gravy was very flavorful and really made the dish. The chicken was moist and the biscuit was perfect. The Shrimp-N-Grits (shrimp sauteed in garlic, green onion, mushrooms, and bacon, served over a bed of Ayers creek grits)- were AMAZING! The mushroom and bacon added great texture and flavor to the grits The shrimp were perfectly cooked and the sauce was just right. We got there around 9am and the line moved quickly. I can't wait to come back and try the rest of the menu.

Got the pot pie, which was absolutely worth the 20 minute wait, and a wonderful Bloody Mary that was spicy the way I love it. Super friendly staff and nice atmosphere. Will definitely be coming back for a biscuit :)

This was hands down the best meal I had while visiting Portland for the weekend. It ended up being my last meal for that weekend on my trip but I am glad we got to save the best for last. I ordered the Reggie Deluxe with the mushroom gravy and got it without the bacon. Every bite was absolutely DELICIOUS. (Although, it also felt like every bite was guiding my body to a future heart attack or obesity) If you want the ultimate foodgasm in your mouth and you like fried chicken as much as I do, this is the one place I would recommend as a "must go" while you are visiting Portland.

Cajan fries topped and smothered is the way to go. They were my favorite out of all the food we ordered. The pancakes were too gritty for my liking, my sausage patty was extremely over seasoned. It was either Rosemary or something similar that made me regret ordering the sausage and wished I would have stuck to bacon haha. The fried green tomatoes were good, the side of ranch was a nice touch. My friends let me have a taste of their regie and it was pretty good! The biscuits are perfect, they melt in your mouth! The sausage gravy is great, I'm glade I ordered that because it was simple but delish!

Pine State Biscuits is great anytime of day! We took a late flight into Portland on a Friday night and this was our first stop. The Reggie Deluxe is life-changing! Delicious biscuit with perfectly juicy, seasoned fried chicken, bacon, cheese and a fried egg covered with sausage gravy! Finish your meal with some banana pudding and you're in for a food coma. Can't wait for our next visit! Wish we had one here in the Bay Area :(

When my local friends mentioned about taking my boyfriend and I to a famous place where their known for their biscuits to start off our foodie trip in Portland, I was skeptical, not because I didn't trust them but I just thought to myself how can you get biscuits wrong or what's special about them, but man, was I proven wrong, these biscuits are amazing! Walking towards the entrance we were greeted with a line out the door into the sidewalk, so this was definitely a good sign. We didn't wait too long, maybe about 15 minutes to get to the counter where you order your food. But before you get your order, there's a window where you can see them making the biscuits from scratch, pretty cool. We ordered the Reggie Deluxe. Its fried chicken, bacon and cheese, egg with gravy. My first bite, I immediately turned to my friend that proposed this place and nodded and reiterated that these are pretty darn good biscuits and thanked him for bringing me there. Not sure how else to describe it, but the biscuit was delicious, it was nicely baked that it didn't fall apart too easily. The chicken and bacon were on point, plus the gravy in the dish is the perfect combo. A very simple sandwich but the added specialty of their biscuit and gravy was done right. There's indoor and outdoor seating. Parking at this location is a bit challenging, so if you see any street parking, make sure to grab it. I'll make sure when I'm in town again that I have to visit this place. It's definitely not hard to please me but since it WOW'd me, I can't help by rave about it.

My own special biscuit haiku: Biscuit honey love Mixed with Marionberry You're my dream come true If I died and went to biscuit heaven, I'm pretty sure this is where I'd end up! Pine State Biscuits opened up one night just for our group and it was one of the highlights of my trip to Portland. There were a myriad of biscuit sandwich combinations to choose from, but I opted for a simple plain biscuit with butter, honey and marionberry jam. Ah-mazing! My only regret is that I live in Hawaii and I'm separated from Pine State Biscuits by an ocean. I have to enjoy this long distance relationship but if you're in the vicinity I implore you... Go there, go there now, and enjoy the simplicity of biscuit heaven!

This new location is great but parking may be tricky during busy dining hours. Very clean and friendly workers. We went late night last night. 10pm and workers were beginning to clean up (they close at 11 on Saturday) but they were more than happy to take our order. I got the biscuits and gravy with mushroom gravy - it was perfect and not too salty. The biscuit, of course, was amazing as always. My hubbie got his usual McIsley and was in heaven. We got stuck by the darn train for 30 minutes after we left which is on the street right next to the entrance. We should have gotten round two as we waited in the car!

Delicious, inexpensive, and filling. Pine State biscuits is a testament to simple comfort food done right. There are numerous reviews written for this place and it's already a well-known Portland establishment, so my opinion is probably just superfluous. But I enjoyed my Saturday brunch so much that I had to write something! I guess there's something to be said for writing one of the first 100 reviews for the new location, right? The Reggie Deluxe is a beacon of love and awesomeness that you should try at least once in your life. Filled with bacon, fried chicken, cheese, sausage gravy, and an egg, it's an assault on the human circulatory system. But it's so flippin' good. Just take some lipitor and don't worry about it. That fried chicken is so spicy-good. If KFC could find a way to get that in their 5 buck box (or whatever they're called), it'd be all over for me. The coffee was really good as well. There were a few different options and I liked them all. I believe they were featuring Stumptown, but I think one of the options was this Argentinian stuff that was really good and had enough caffeine to wake my hungover ass up! They do have a couple beers and a few cocktails on the menu too if you're looking for a little hair of the dog. The wait is annoying, but it's worth it. I would anticipate that the wait is typically around 30 minutes on weekends. Also, if you are planning on eating at the restaurant (not carrying out), know that the tables are first come first served and your ability to sit at a table is probably dependent upon other people understanding that you have to leave as soon as you're done eating. Be aware that you're going to stand over people watching them eat for a few minutes until a table opens up. It seemed to me that everyone was respectful and left when they were done, but if you end up going there when there's nothing but irreverent hipsters, you might be standing and eating. I think they could also cram a few more tables in that outdoor area and it would mitigate the seat-vulturing that occurs The service is a little bit of a grab bag. The girl at the counter was visibly stressed out, but everyone else was friendly. But service aside, this place is amazeballs. I highly recommend you make a trip to one of their locations. I know I'll be back!

Came to this place while visiting from Long Beach, CA. Came on a Thursday at 1100 and man oh man was it fucking amazing. I got the shrimp and grits and my girlfriend got the Reggie Delux. I finished mine and half of her meal and am not over stuffed. I had the buoy beer co IPA to wash it down and it complimented both of our foodsGreat place to eat and relax. 10/10 would try again

This place is solid! It is one of my go to destinations for a Sunday brunch when I find myself waking up at noon hungover and hungry. The best part is that they have a discounted happy hour menu that starts at 3 pm. I have fed five people more food than they could eat for under $25 during happy hour here. The menu might seem a bit limited after a while but the quality for the food is consistently good.

For all the hype I heard about Pine State Biscuits, it turned out to be a tad disappointing. That being said, I heard a LOT of hype. So really I was expecting pure unadulterated biscuit bliss and when I didn't get that, well, you know. The line was an immediate turn-off. Yes, I'm used to lines, but this line was particularly strange/annoying because it just wasn't MOVING. It's one thing if you're waiting for 45 minutes and it's moving quickly, but this one was a snooze fest. It should've really taken 20-30 minutes tops given how many people were actually in line. But I was still patient and excited (ok and yes, a tad hungover) to try these biscuits. My boyfriend and I went balls to the wall and ordered two Reggie Deluxe's - a biscuit with fried chicken, cheddar cheese, thick slab bacon, sausage gravy and a fried egg. "We'll take two heart attacks for here, please!" They were definitely tasty. The fried chicken moist and nicely seasoned, the egg perfectly runny. Everything was great but for some reason I wasn't WOWed. Maybe it's because there was way too much going on to enjoy the simplicity of each of the rich ingredients, maybe I was too hungover, or maybe I was simply comparing it too much to my favorite biscuit place in Seattle.

Amazing place, this is why I love Portland's dining scene. Unpretentious and a good value. The food was fresh and delicious. Very enjoyable and can't wait to go back. PS: Aardvark hot sauce is sublime.

Top notch, quality biscuits and fried chicken and gravy and pancakes and everything they serve! And reasonably priced.

My co-workers and I were fortunate to dine at Pine State Biscuits last week while up in Portland. The restaurant generously closed their doors to the public and hosted our hungry crew. So how was the food? Well, it's seriously hard find to fault in a fried chicken sandwich served with bacon & cheese on top of a home-made biscuit and topped with gravy (it's called The Reggie, BTW. And for a $1 extra, they'll add an egg to your sandwich). Throw in some Cajun Fries on the side for another $3. When all is said and done, this delicious cardiac arrest will only cost you about about $12 (minus tax & tip). So you're certainly getting plenty of bang for your buck! I was also pleasantly surprised by their cocktail program. I had a variation of an Old Fashioned that was out-of-this-world (perfectly balances and totally potent). The restaurant serves a variety of biscuit-themed sandwiches. Some come with fried chicken, while others come with either steak or pulled-pork. They also offer other comfort fare like a Chicken Pot Pie, Shrimp-N-Gritts, and an Andouille Corn Dog. Like I said, none of this food would make your cardiologist very happy. But as for me and my co-workers, we were in fried culinary heaven! Definitely worth revisiting the next time I'm in Portlandia.

Coming from New Orleans, the Land of the Stretchy Waistband, I can honestly say I'd get chubby in Portland and Pine State Biscuits would probably be the culprit. While I didn't have to wait in a monumental line (I loathe lines and they seem to be a thing in Portland) and I was dismayed when I couldn't take my Bloody Mary out on the patio, I had a 5 star experience in my mouth at Pine State Biscuits. Like I mentioned our wait in the line was short, but it's fun to watch the peeps making these fluffy biscuits in the window. I ordered a special, I believe a BLT biscuit, and a Bloody Mary while the entire fam ordered Reggies and an order of the Steak Hash Ups. My Bloody Mary was a thing of beauty with a spicy rim and a fresh crunchy okra which I think should be standard for all Bloody Marys, just sayin'. While seating inside for larger parties is limited, we loomed over a table until they decided to pack up their messy babies and head out. The waitress quickly cleaned up the crumbs and we had a nice big booth for our soon-to-be big bellies. When the Reggies and plate of Hash Ups arrived with my lone Special, I immediately had entree envy for these smothered, covered biscuits of pure joyful gluttony. Y'all...the secret is to ORDER The Special, make everyone feel bad for you when really my BLT was crunchy, fresh and damn delicious in between those fluffy buns, and get the rest of the table to baby bird feed you their Reggies out of pity. My sister was the true victim since I puppy-dog sad-eyed her into picking off pieces of her fried chicken and dipping it into the Southern approved gravy to feed to me. The Hash Ups deserve their own love letter because they were the best steak hashbrowns I've had in my entire life. The topping of perfectly cooked, not-at-all-chewy steak bits, onion, mushroom and light chives was so good on the crispy, not-soggy hashbrowns. If you had any left over, you can then dip it in any leftover gravy, unofficially called that lagniappe back home. I'm very happy I went with the Special because the Reggie put the rest of my family in a walking state of comatose for the rest of the day so I do prescribe a post-meal nap if you're going to go heavy at Pine State Biscuits. I will definitely be back when I visit Portland again, with fingers crossed I get lucky with no line again!!

I've been to the other location of Pine state and am a huge fan. Came here for dinner last week and was a bit disappointed with the Reggie deluxe which I've had many times. The biscuit and meat were not piping hot, and really they were very stingy on the gravy (which is the best part by far). Guess I'll stick to the Alberta location..

Totally bad ass! I have been to other Pine State locations but this one (new?) is big, bright, and QUICK! Always a stop on my way out of Portland, Pine State is a staple for me. The food is ridiculously good, and in true Portland style, it's cheap too! Spend less than $15 and you'll get enough food to feed yourself for two meals straight. The Andouille sausage corn dog is a must, and of course so are all of the biscuit sandwiches. But don't stop there! Get a plain biscuit, some butter/honey and some Marionberry jam. Go nuts, you won't regret it. There are poutine style fries, cocktails, and massive booths for you and all of your hungry friends. Just get here and eat already!

Honestly, I was a little disappointed after visiting this place. The hype is that it's the best, and a must if you are visiting Portland, but I was pretty underwhelmed. The food tasted pretty good, however my friend didn't really like it. I got the Reggie deluxe, and she got the moneyball. We ordered the pop tart to share, but 15 minutes after paying they said they had run out for the day and I'd either need to wait 3-5 days to get a refund, or buy something else. I was disappointed they made me charge $2 and some change to my card instead of just giving me the other thing I ordered for the inconvenience. The customer service here is lacking, and definitely could use some attention. Overall, glad we went, probably won't go back.

In Portland, gravy is practically its own food group, and that's in no small part thanks to Pine State Biscuits. If you're going to start your day with a gut bomb, it should definitely be worth the pain and calories. Ladies and gentlemen, Pine State Biscuits is well worth it. Get the Reggie Deluxe. Sure, they offer a regular Reggie, but when the word "deluxe" is thrown out there (and in this case signifying the addition of a perfectly fried egg), you go all the way. Fresh biscuits served up with fried chicken, bacon, cheddar and the all-important gravy, and if you followed my advice, a runny fried egg. This is comfort food at its finest. I have ordered a couple of other items such as the chicken club (fried chicken, bacon, lettuce and tomato topped with blue cheese or ranch) or the blueberry cornmeal pancakes. Both were good, I promise, but with each bite I tasted a hint of regret for not ordering the Reggie Deluxe. I'm telling you, Reggie is my main man. But here's the one negative about PSB: they're so good and so popular that often times you'll have to resign yourself to wait in a line around the block. To that, I have to pass. Instead I go early in the morning (before 9) or on a weekday and I can get in and out quickly, but typical weekend breakfast/brunch hours? Forget about it. If you don't mind waiting in line in general, this place would be good any time. But if you're like me, cater your visits to when the rest of the world is still sleeping or locked up in a cubical.

Pine State Biscuits is the mecca for stick-to-your-ribs comfort food. While food this rich is insanely delicious, it's also not something you can eat often. So when you do indulge in a biscuit skyscraper of epic proportions, enjoy it! Their signature sandwich is called the Reggie Deluxe, a fitting name for something that sits on a liberal bed of gravy and is topped with a fried egg. Because I wanted something with a hint of sweetness, I went for The Chatfield, which was comprised of the most perfect fried chicken, cheese, bacon and a healthy slathering of apple butter. Maybe a bit heavy on the apple butter, but nonetheless this tower of carbs and fatty accoutrements was sinfully spectacular! We also tried the banana pudding, which to my delight contained real whipped cream. 2.7 million calories later, we were escorted out of the restaurant via heavy duty wheel barrows. Make no mistake, PSB is a must-try whilst visiting PDX!

I'm not exaggerating when I say that Pine State Biscuits made me tap out of food for the remaining 8 hours I had in Portland. We stopped in for Brunch on a Monday morning/noonish time and ordered the Regina Sandwich, the Hash with eggs on top in lieu of meat, and then I got a biscuit covered with the mushroom gravy with a fat piece of fried chicken on top. I dove right in, scooping as much gravy as I could, and about 3 minutes later... I hit a steady halt. The gravy still makes me salivate thinking about it, but obviously, any meal with biscuits and gravy is bound to make you feel like a scoop of lard instantaneously. This meal, however, was totally worth it. The hash was likely my favorite part, but do not miss the fried chicken.

AMAZING.. just simply amazing. My first time in Portland and I knew I had to give this place a try when I came upon the pictures of the Reggie Deluxe. Came here on Friday at 10:00 AM and luckily we were able to beat the rush. I definitely recommend having your friends save you a table as you order. It gets really crowded here and can be hard to find a seating area. Ordered the Reggie Deluxe (Duh), The Hash Up With Steak, & Mimosas. The Reggie Deluxe was delicious and tasted amazing with the gravy! Do not be deceived by how small the Reggie Deluxe portion is because it's actually a really heavy dish and I recommend sharing with your significant other. The Hash Up Steak was also the best hash browns I've ever had. I'm usually not a huge fan of hash browns, but I really like how thinly cut the potatoes are here. The marinated tender steak on top is also the perfect topping for my hash browns. Pine State Biscuits is a must whenever you're visiting Portland! It's inexpensive, very filling, and the best biscuits you'll ever devour in your life!

It's over. The search for the perfect biscuits and gravy has come to an end. After 30 + years and countless restaurants all over the country. Pine State Biscuits is the winner! The coffee on the other hand was awful.

I tried Pine State Biscuits for the first time today and I had an overall pleasant experience. The environment was very busy, but despite the line, I was able to order within 30 minutes and had my food brought to me about 15 minutes later. I had the Chatfield, which is a fried chicken, bacon, cheese, and apple butter biscuit sandwich. The biscuit and fried chicken were tasty. However, the Apple butter almost ruined the dish for me because there was so much. But after scraping some off, the flavors blended pretty well together. Overall, it wasn't a bad experience but it wasn't something that I would say is amazing. I'll probably come back and try another menu item. Maybe apple butter just isn't my thing.

Pine State is Portland in a nutshell. Take a standard diner atmosphere, throw in fresh ingredients, delicious chicken, amazing biscuits and a whole 'lotta hipster flair and you've got one of my favorite places in the city and one hell of a chicken biscuit. You can't go wrong with anything here. Literally, nothing is bad. The Reggie is superb; the Reggie Deluxe is a gut-bomb food coma delivery system. A special I had a few weeks ago was a spicy chicken salad biscuit. Unbelievable. TILT may have slightly better chicken, but you won't find a better biscuit anywhere.

Was about to take off after a trip in Portland but had a couple hours to kill. Pine State was the one 'must have' place that wasn't checked off. We rerouted our car just to see what the hype was about. That was one of the best decisions of the trip! These biscuits are melt in your mouth delicious with impeccable fried chicken and a gravy that is just to die for. I'm not even big on gravy, intact I didn't even order it on my dish, but after having a spoonful from my husband, I pretty much stole the plate. I went up to the counter to ask for a small size to finish off my sandwich and they let me know I need to go back to the front and pay for it. I was almost done with my meal so I decided to just skip it. Well lo and behold about 5 minutes later the server came out and said its on the house. That was uber sweet. I ended up getting back in line and buying biscuits and 2 pints of gravy to go. Yes packed up, and taken with my carry on, its that good!

Location: I'm not from the area but from what I got from coming here is that it is fairly close to the university. No parking lot but street parking is everywhere and it didn't seem busy when we came that we found parking right away that was literally a couple of seconds of a walk. Customer Service: Our food took a little longer than we expected but I guess the good food makes up for it. Decor: When you walk up you see that there is a small patio like seating area where picnic tables are set up and then there's the restaurant which is small in size but it's cute. I'd say about 6-8 tables I didn't really get to count that's me guesstimating Presentation of Food: Zomg! These biscuits are huge and if it's your first time here like us we were "wow'd" right away!! How did the food taste?: We got the Reggie Deluxe, the egg really does make a difference! The fried chicken was soooo crispy and good and the gravy wasn't overbearing! Overall Experience: The hype was worth it for sure! Wish they had something like this in the Bay Area! Self service, you bus your own table after you eat fyi! Would I Come Back?: Yes if I'm ever back in Portland!

The Reggie Deluxe is a melting heart attack on a plate, but you'll scoff it down and be tempted to order another. Their biscuits are like nothing I've ever had before. I left part of my soul in PDX at the Pine State Biscuits. Some say its still wandering today looking for another biscuit. Such fluffy, much butter.

    (5)
  • Donna K.

Yes their biscuits are amazingly fluffy, but their fried chicken is not worth ordering. The best dish to order is biscuits and gravy with an over easy egg! Anything fried chicken ruins the biscuit, even though there are lots of fried chicken options. . be warned! The line is quite redunkulous, but since food comes out quite quickly, the line is not the worst thing about the place. The hidden gem is the butternut squash bread slices! think of zucchini bread or banana bread with a tasty spice! It's probably a good idea to order a dozen biscuits togo. Bonus: fries and hash browns can be added on the side.. but no home style potatoes...

The reviews make it clear that the Reggie is the popular choice here, but I have to put a plug in for a few of Pine State's other items. I am a huge fan of the McIsley (pronounced mick-eye-lee). That mustard, pickle, and honey combo is something special. I've also tried the Chatfield. As others have mentioned, the apple butter is worth getting on any of the sandwiches. I've had a bite of the blue cornmeal pancakes, and I wouldn't mind getting a full order for myself at some point. If you're willing to get here before 9, you won't have to wait long at all. After about 10, expect a line, but I think this place is worth it. Also, I seriously think they have some of the best breakfast cocktails in town.

This place came highly recommended from a friend and we were told we had to try it on our vacation. It did not disappoint! Food: my boyfriend had the Reggie Deluxe, I had the Chatfield, and we shared fries. It was soo good. My boyfriend loved the sausage gravy and egg was a nice addition to the chicken. I loved the sweet and savory aspect of mine. I can't say no to apple butter. It tasted amazing with the cheese. The fries were crisp and perfectly seasoned. Their ketchup was delicious, too, tasted house-made. I also got a plain biscuit and honey to go and was in love with the local honey they served. Ambiance: it's a cute place and there is some inside seating. We were not fond of the metal stools they had inside. If you're serving fatty food make chairs average/large people can sit in comfortably. But there are nice picnic style tables outside. We never had a hard time finding seats. On a side note, we loved this place so much we went back a second time on the day we left town. This time we tried the huge corn dog and it was also great. On my next trip to PDX I'm coming here for sure.

Great creative menu with lots of options. Great twist on southern cuisine. The pop tarts were wonderful. Would recommend anything on the menu. Long lines for breakfast but they are fairly quick. Would highly recommend.

I was suspicious that pine city biscuits would really live up to the hype. the boyfriend and I shared the Reggie deluxe (thanks to its praises here) and the hash up with steak. I'm not exaggerating here, the Reggie deluxe is the best biscuits sandwich I've ever had. every element on its own was incredible: the biscuits, the perfectly fried chicken, the GRAVY (better than my southern family recipe!). this sandwich is lifechanging. the hash was excellent t but couldn't compare. it's not it's fault, it must be hard to shine in the shadow of the most perfect fried chicken sandwich.

So good that we braved 30 degree outdoor, unheated seating to nom it up, twice. The wait time was much better than any other brunch place - maybe 25-40 minutes to order. Food comes out fairly fast. Self-serve for the most part, self seating too. THE GRAVY MAKES ALL THE DIFFERENCE! Do not doubt it like we did - months prior, we browsed Yelp pictures and thought "who the hell cares about gravy and biscuits?" WHAT. FOOLS. WE. WERE. Anyway. Since I'm not much of an angry seat fighter when it comes to brunch (I'm more of a peaceful, fork wielding warrior) my partner and I settled for hot food in the cold. I don't recommend this, but if you're hangry, you're hangry. The Reggie Deluxe is a MUST when at Pine State - buttery and hot biscuits with a perfectly fried does-not-fall-apart fried chicken breast, crispy bacon, cheese, country gravy (!!!!) with a fried egg. Good for one person or shared if you get some sides. The Hash Ups (with steak) were perfectly crisp! These took the longest to come out, but I could see why. The hash was cooked perfectly, but I could have lived without the steak. I wish I got gravy on it :( Extra gravy! Embrace the wait! Eat everything! Mmm.

We came here because of all the great reviews but I'm not sure what all the hype is about. We came here on a Friday afternoon. There was no line and the place was half empty. We ordered the Reggie deluxe and the Chatfield. The biscuits were tough, not light and flaky like I had expected. The flavor of the Reggie deluxe was ok and edible only because of the gravy. The apple butter on the Chatfield was plentiful and too sweet to eat. I don't know if we came on an off day, but we won't be coming back here.

No, thank you. I just wanted to say thank you for the wonderful meal that is The Reggie Deluxe. Half way through, I didn't think I was going to finish it which made me sad. Wishing I had Rocky's coach to help me push through the fullness, I saw a glimmer of hope on my partner-in-crime's plate. Raspberry jam. I took the jam, smuthered it on my sandwich and was able to dominate my Reggie. If I do say so myself, not only did the jam give me strength to complete my duty as a Pine State customer, but it made a killer addition to The Reggie Deluxe. I would recommend to make it an optional pairing with my two thumbs up. Yours Truely, Amy (Chicago)

Came here pretty late so we only had the Happy Hour menu to choose from. We ordered biscuits with sausage gravy, chicken club, and the chatfield. Enjoyed them all though the biscuits were my fave. Could of passed on the chicken club because the lettuce on it was quite large.

The Reggie Deluxe proves that it's pretty much necessary to order something with a fried egg and cheese. Also, the lemonade was a bit sour, which was perfect. BRB, trying to convince myself to hit the gym so I can return here frequently.

I ordered the pine state club because it sounded unique, a trio of little "sandwiches". The fried chicken with spiced honey was fantastic. I also liked the country ham wrapped cheese (nice if you are craving salty) and the pimento cheese topped with a fried green tomato too. Each sat on a corn cake which was a bit much to have a corn cake for each one. Husband got the biscuit with apple butter and fried chicken. The apple butter was really overwhelming to me but he liked it.

I had some egg thing with mushrooms and onions, minus the onions. Whatever they did to the nusgrooms, I couldn't get enough of them. I don't usually like mushrooms much but they were good. The cinnamon roll wasn't very good. Nothing like Bette's Place in Hood River. Overall though I really enjoyed my breakfast and the atmosphere. It was kinda fun watching a guy make biscuits.

Decided to check this place out on our weekend trip to Portland. The food was delicious. My boyfriend and I tried the fries with gravy, the Reggie, and the Chatterfield. The food itself was delicious, service was pretty bad due to the one server. He was busy chatting with another staff member for several minutes while the cook in the window kept hitting his bell trying to get the server too pick up the food for multiple tables. When the server finally turned up he said he was, "busy talking to someone has actually cared about ". What was the most annoying service blunder was that when we finally got our food the server came back and swiped a dish right off out table right as my boyfriend was about to cut into it. Apparently he'd accidentally given us the version of the Reggie that comes with an additional egg. Pretty sure that you're not supposed to swipe food off customer's tables once you've already given it to then then go feed it to other customers... Good lunch. Bit heavy but perfect for a nice brunch as long as that 1 server isn't working.

I loved the homey, cramped quarters of the original Pine State Biscuits on Southeast Belmont Street, but this sparkling new shop on Division is much more comfortable. You no longer have to push through the crowds of people. They have the same quality biscuits and you can even throw together your own combination in case you don't like theirs. They also kept the open kitchen design so you can watch the bakers at work. Same friendly staff.

Ahhhh, Pine State. Always a safe bet. Boneless fried chicken at it's best. Southern, no-holds-barred, cooking also on its A-game. A paradise of deep fried, breaded, buttery, cheesy, eggy, gravy goodness to behold. The McIsley, a fried chicken patty with pickles, whole grain mustard & honey, accompanied by a stellar Bloody Mary, is the perfect Sunday brunch option. Another great option is the steak club, which is smothered with the best house-made blue cheese dressing you will ever have! Most anything you might order on the menu, will be above par, so you will undoubtedly be pleased enough with any item that you will certainly return for more. WARNING: if you are practicing a low-calorie diet, you should stay away

BOOM! After many, many moons this location of Pine State is finally open! And boy is that not good news for my waistline. I could always count on the distance and difficulty of getting my lazy ass up to Alberta to keep me away from these calorie-and-carbohydrate-packed bundles of delicious joy. But now they have an outpost in my stomping grounds again. Ugh... I mean YAY! Gone are the days of the walk-in-closet-sized Belmont store. The Division Pine State has more room, a great open layout, counter seats, and coming soon... an outdoor seating area that's under cover! So for those 11.5 months of the year when it's raining in PDX, I can still stuff my maw with tasty, biscuit-y goodness. The open kitchen is clean and shiny, and they've added a few perks like a little biscuit window so folks in line can watch them rollin' dough. Oh, the food? It's awesome, as always. Down-home cooking dreamed up by three dudes from North Cackalack. Serious business, this fare. Cream-top biscuits, biscuit sandwiches, biscuits n' gravy, fried chicken biscuits, bacon biscuits, egg and cheese biscuits, you name it. And some other stuff too. My favorites of course include the McIsley (fried chicken, pickles, honey and stone-ground mustard on a biscuit), the Reggie Deluxe (chicken, bacon, egg, gravy and cheese on a biscuit) and of course the Moneyball (BnG with eggs on top). They're all delicious in that 'I'm-gonna-need-a-nap-after-this' kind of way. I should add a disclaimer - these guys are my homies. But even if I didn't know them (which I didn't when I first started dining at Pine State), I still have always loved this food in a more-than-five-star way. It hits the sweet spot between comforting, delicious, and pretty to look at. Just like your mom. And no amount of difficult parking or constant road construction can keep me away. Just don't tell my doctor about this little love affair.

I've been here twice and the food is pretty good. I've gotten stomach aches both times, I think something is too strong but that's probably just my weak stomach, dunno. It gets very busy and this is a pretty small place so keep that in mind 'cause I had to sit outside my first time and ate in the cold which was a bummer; I was there minutes after it opened. My second visit was okay, but the cashier was none-to-excited to be there and the people I had the crappy luck of sitting by me were probably worst humans. People also tend to show up early with their whole family taking up about 2/3 of the available space. I guess this place should be eaten at, at least once but really isn't worth the drive (for me) nor the diabetes. I'm generally not a big fan of places where I'm asked to tip where I do essentially all the work except the cooking - that's why I came out for breakfast. My original post was a little nicer and higher rating but after seeing them shown on local social media I realized just hour mediocre this place is. It's also much more expensive than it should be. You make the decision if it's worth a second try.

Congrats to Pine State on their sparkling new SE Division location! What was once a humble farmer's market cart has blown up and is a Portland standard, as you all know, over the last several years. This location is no exception. Parking is even more scarce near this intersection than the NE Alberta one, but fear not! Before we know it, that new SE Trimet Max line will be up and running (next year), and this location is mere feet from it. Liquor license is still pending at this time, but they're only soft-opened and I am certain the booze will flow soon, and in no time the trademark line-around-the-block for this joint will become common. This is definitely going to give Genie's (across the street) some competition for the weekend crowd. All the same famous PSB dishes here: biscuits. Gravy. Fried chicken. Eggs. Hashbrowns. And a bajillion combinations of those things. Veggie options available; my favorite thing from Pine State is actually their mushroom (v) gravy, and I've seen many a meat-enthusiast prefer that one, actually... on their chicken. In addition to the biscuit sandwiches and b&g, they have a few other signature dishes as well. Pro tips for first timers, the in ways of the State of the Pine: It's an order at counter, bus-your-own-table setting. Know what you are doing before you start ordering. You get one chance. Don't be that guy that takes 10 minutes to order or you risk being mangled by someone behind you in a greater need of a Reggie Deluxe than you. You'll need the salt shaker. You're looking at around $10ish bucks for a generous amount of food. I can't even come close to finishing a plate of the hashbrowns. They are not served as some measly scoop, either. It's a full nine inch plate, and they are greasy. I mean that in the nicest possible way. If you are super starving, godspeed on a full order, but otherwise, see if you can split with a buddy. Bonus points for hangover cure. Best wishes to them in their new spot! I happened to be there when they got their first phone call and adorable cheers erupted. Seating at the kitchen counter, plus about 6-7 tables. It's bright and airy in there. The building seems to be evolving into something similar to Union Way... a cool, contained, multi-spot retail hub. Very cool, excited to see what else goes in there.

These biscuits are delicious. I am from NC and these guys know how to do them right. Also they sell Cheerwine which is made in Salisbury NC and hard to find in the Pacific Northwest. Get the Reggie. Great fried chicken on a biscuit. The chicken was very juicy.

Yum yum yum. This place has such delicious breakfast food. I got the Reggie and was pleased with the combination of crunchy, buttery and creamy textures all in one dish. The hash browns with all the toppings were also great as a shared dish with the table. I might even go back just to order this as my main dish. If you are counting calories this is not the place for you. But if you want a yummy meal that warms your soul then you must drop in!

What a great place. Prices are fabulous for what you get. You wait a bit but it's well worth the wait!!!

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to eat a breakfast sandwich full of stuff that seemed to be combined by a kitchen staff throwing darts at a board with a list of random ingredients? Well if you think that it wouldn't be very good, you would be so freaking wrong. It turns out that whatever you throw into a PSB biscuit is instantly the best thing you've ever put in your mouth. And if you never thought you would eat apple butter on fried chicken, then you would be missing out on one of life's grand combos (The Chatfield). This location is so much better than the Belmont location I don't even know where to start. Well, that's not entirely true. Ahem, booze. But there is also more seating, an expanded menu, better atmosphere, and just a general, accomplished sense of "this tiny food cart has arrived, Portland." I definitely put PSB on my list of places you have to check it out if you're visiting Portland. If you're lucky enough to live here, then get down here pronto and dive in. You should probably walk here, though. Because they're not pulling any calorie punches. Thankfully.

Great biscuits indeed! We order cajun fries with cheese and they were good. We split 1 biscuit and gravy and that too was good. The biscuits are moist and light not heavy and dry where a lot of times you need the gravy to digest the biscuit. I got a chicken pot pie, it was good made with fresh veggies, corn, carrots, string beans and lots of diced up chunks of chicken. My beau ordered the Reggie with a fresh scrambled egg! It was not that typical nasty egg scramble mixture that's a bright yellow. It too had gravy and fried chicken with bacon. So moist and delicious! We washed it all down with Arnold palmers, tangy delicious lemonade with ice tea. Come to Cali we'd love to have ya!

There was a line, even though we got there early. No big, since it did give us a bit of time to decide what to get. The downside with the line, it gave me too much time to check the menu because by the time I got to the front, I wanted to get everything. Ended up with a cinnamon roll, an order of Reggie, two orders of Reggie Deluxe (as an egg), hash up with steak, and biscuits and gravy. All gravy was the sausage kind. Very good and tasty. The biscuit was light and fluffy. The steak on the hash was good, but the the overall hash was "eh". Service was friendly. I think we got a "trainee" at the cash register, because other staff kept "helping" her, even if she really didn't ask for it. Then again, the order was placed smoothly and came out OK.

I just reviewed the other location, where I had the Reggie Deluxe. I was visiting Portland for 5 days and had to come here again. I came to this location to check it out since I already went to the other one. I ordered the Chatfield. Pretty much, it's the Reggie, but switch out the sausage gravy with apple butter. Oh....My....gonna die. Why is it so good? WHY?! If you're in the mood for savory, Reggie all the way. Sweet and savory; Chatfield! This place is solid. When I go back to Portland, I'm going to keep coming back here until I've tried everything on the menu. It's simply fantastic, delicious, done-right food.

The joint was spotlighted on the Food Network's 'Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives' with Guy Fieri. I can only assume that this was (in part) the reason why we encountered a line that led out the door and onto the sidewalk of SE Belmont. Moreover, it may have been the reason why we waited for 47 minutes to get our order. OR, it could be that Pine State Biscuits at 3640 SE Belmont is a great place for good food. As you may have already surmised: Pine State Biscuits serves (well) biscuits. Crispy on the outside and light and fluffy on the inside, they taste great after they've been drown in Shitake Mushroom gravy and served hot. I had come to eat breakast. After scanning Pine State's short, but interesting menu: I decided on 'The Reggie'. For a mere 7 bones and nearly an hour of hunger, I received a piece of buttermilk, fried chicken with cheese, bacon and not nearly enough gravy. I would've asked for more, but feared for the wait. Regardless, the sandwich was delicious. For sides, I ordered the hash browns and a sausage patty. The patty was thick and juicy with a hint of spice. It was also cold. I can only imagine that it had been waiting longer to meet me, than I...it. Pine State focuses on the old fashioned and does- it- up homestyle: Collard greens, grits, hot apples, fried green tomatoes and sides of huckleberry jam and apple butter. I wanted to try it all. They also serve an andouille sausage corn dog with mustard and honey that undoubtedly sticks to your ribs, as well as to your arteries. On the beverage menu you will find old-school, bottled sodas: Cheerwine, Bubble Up and NuGrape. The fresh-squeezed, organic OJ looked good, as did 'The Champs Gourmet Chocolate Milk'. Not sure what was in it that made it "gourmet", but I will sample it on my next wait...I mean...visit. Pine State Biscuits is all about Portland. It's located in an an old house that contains residents on the upper floor. Not sure if they have to wait as long as the rest of us to eat, but I digress. The dining room has room for four or five, small tables and is staffed by a couple of cooks and a cashier. It is as quaint and charming as it is hip and trendy. If you intend upon experiencing Pine State Biscuits, my advice is to get there early, or just before they close at 2pm. The wait might be cause for frustration, but the biscuits and gravy are cause for celebrating. Got-n-get 'em.

I've been to both the original location and the Alberta restaurant. This new location was so well designed, so well planned out. It made me fall in love with this restaurant all over again. Still serving delicious, high quality food. Pine State Biscuits is a MUST for anyone anywhere near the Portland area. I inundated myself in their drip Stumptown coffee. Lovely fresh squeezed orange juice for $3 was a bargain. I guess I could have skipped the fried green tomato on the side, but nothing else. My son and I split two things. The reggie (steak with lettuce, tomato & ranch) and the biscuit with fried chicken, cheese, and gravy. I also tried the shrimp and grits (because I'm a true sucker for grits). All the food was heartily consumed. Yum yum and more yum. Get in line, order, seat yourself, bus your table. Enjoy.

Sunday morning isn't complete without a Reggie Deluxe. Be ready for a 30-45 min wait but oh man is it worth it. Bring a friend and share a hand dipped corn dog or the decadent banana pudding. Simply irresistible!

We had heard about this place for awhile and finally went to try it out. Boy were we glad! The line outside on a Monday at 1pm was still about a ten-fifteen minute wait, but good food rarely doesn't keep people waiting. We ordered at the counter, hash-ups with ham, reggie deluxe, and the special for the day, the spicy chicken. Everything tasted so incredibly good. The fluffy biscuit with fried chicken, egg, and cheese all topped with gravy was definitely our favorite (the reggie deluxe). The hash ups we also good. The spicy chicken had a slaw on it that was to die for, but my own idiocy led me to not be able to eat it. When they said spicy, they meant SPICY and I was unaware of how little heat I could handle. My husband wolfed it down just fine.

I've been here a few times and every time I go there's a huge wait, except for this time. Pine State Biscuits has three locations now and my friends and I went to the newest one on Division. Apparently, it's still pretty new bc the line wasn't super terrible when we got there on a Sunday around noon (waited about 10-15 mins). In the past, I've had the reggie deluxe and the moneyball so I wanted to try something new. I got the steak club with dressing on the side and it was delicious! It felt so much healthier/lighter than a reggie or other things I've had, but still flavorful. The steak was still a little pink and tender, the veggies were fresh and bright and the biscuit was fluffy. Overall, I don't think you can get anything wrong here, everything I've tried so far was really good! Highly recommend if you're in town.

We are lovers of Pine State Biscuits, but have only been to the one at the PSU Saturday market... until now! Warning: The dining area at PSB is limited (first come first serve) and a line is almost guaranteed. If you go here when the weather is nice, you can sit in their outdoor patio area. But if it's cold out, finding a seat to eat can be tricky. It's not a great place for large groups, as many of the seats are doubles or singles at the bar. Regardless, go early to beat some of the line! The food here is spectacular. The biscuits are the best in the city in my opinion and they have awesome creations and build your own options when you order. My favorite is just a simple bacon, egg, and cheese with a side of apple butter (sooo good). My husband loved the Chatfield, which is bacon, fried chicken, cheese, and apple butter. This one is EPIC, but go hungry, as it is extremely filling with the fried chicken included. They have some great biscuit options with their gravy, but I'm not a gravy gal :-( we also ordered the cajun fries, which were awesome... but we hurt afterwards from all the food! They also have good bloody mary's and serve up Stumptown coffee... Overall, a GREAT breakfast place!

This place is amazing ! I have eaten biscuits and gravy at a lot of places and pine state has the best ever ! Their biscuits are so perfect and the sausage gravy is perfect ! I had the Reggie wich is a biscuit with boneless fried chicken on it with gravy, cheese and bacon. I split an order of Cajun fries with my hubby and they were good. Their biscuits with butter and Marion berry jam is delicious. The service was excellent too !

After being mislead to a non-existent location by another food app, we regrouped, found the actual store locations, and then drove to the Division Street store. This was our first time at Pine Street Biscuits after our daughter told us how good the food is, a confirmation of the Yelp reviews. We found the staff to be very friendly, the food very good, and the coffee excellent. My wife and I both had the Reggie and my only complaint is they kind of scrimped on the sausage gravy which was worth removing a star to me. Otherwise I would given them 5 stars. As noted by other Yelpers, parking is tough in this area, so you have to be patient and a little persistent. TIP - A huge benefit when dining at this location is that there is a fantastic German deli and market, Edelweiss Sausage Co. and Deli, less than a 5 minute walk away. Prices are a little high, but the place was packed and you get what you pay for. Give them a try too.

I got a biscuit and mushroom gravy and a plain biscuit with Marion berry jam. They were both delicious. I was so full after I wasn't able to eat again until 10pm. The ambiance of the place is super cute. I also recommend their chocolate milk.

Self serve venue, you get your own utensils, seats, bust your own table, and you just have to W.A.I.T.! Food is a simple biscuit, super small portion, with super large price. Can't really figure out how their staff operates, but they're there! #foodporn #foodfailed #omg #food #failure

I love this wonderful place. Much like any brunch establishment in Portland, it's all about understanding the wait and planning ahead. My approach? On weekends, get in before about 8:15, and you're pretty much set: if I time it right, I can usually get in and out with a to-go order in 10 minutes. After that, uuh...good luck. My personal go-to is the biscuits and gravy, but obviously, you can't go wrong with any biscuit sandwich. The steak club, lacking Pine State's mythical fried chicken, is an underrated sandwich that is most delightful -- if you find yourself showing up in the afternoon, it's a solid lunch option. My traveling companions and I have never been brave enough to venture to the right side of the menu, though. One day. I was more than pleased to see that the Division location is finally open beyond 3:00! I'm curious to see how the line is looking in the evenings, though I haven't had a chance to check it out yet. I must -- there are strategies to plan and biscuits to smuggle!

Long line and wait for a relatively empty restaurant. Friendly staff with a complete lack of hustle. Food was lukewarm and not very crispy despite employee claims that items are freshly made. Maybe the other locations are better. Go to Popeye's / KFC.

These biscuits are 100% worth the monumental wait in line. I arrived pretty much an hour before close; about 1:30 if I recall correctly. I figured at the tail end of a lunch hour things would be clearing out a bit. Nah. I spent 25 minutes in line, and another 25 minutes standing around the pass waiting for my food to come. During these 50 minutes I pondered just how much time was collectively spent in line by the good people of Portland, while also wondering if smartphones just gave restaurants a reason to make service even slower. Nonetheless, we eventually got our food, I took it back to the car, and awesomeness ensued. I got a Reggie Deluxe, which is a nutritional disaster wrapped in the guise of a flaky biscuit. And oh, that biscuit. I don't know what the magic ingredient for the biscuit is. I suspect bacon fat, with lard coming in a close second, and no matter what, copious amounts of butter are involved. It is the best buttermilk biscuit I've ever had, and I've scratchmade a god-awful amount of great buttermilk biscuits. It's hard to go wrong once you have a biscuit that good, but the fried chicken? Great. Bacon? Crispy, flavorful and delicious. Egg? Sinfully runny and making the whole thing creamy. And the gravy softens the biscuit just so, but stands out very well on its own--the right texture, great sausage flavor. My wife concurred; she got one with jelly that was just a little bit sweet, and another with honey that burst with flavor. Pine State Biscuits is a great use of your time, and you might spent a lot of it in line here. Don't worry about it. Just think about the biscuit that you're about to have.

Favorite must visit place every time I visit Portland! My go to biscuit is the biscuit with mushroom gravy (vegetarian!) The biscuits are super moist and flakey, and it is covered in a generous portion of gravy so that you have enough to smother each delicious bite! My mouth is watering right now just thinking of this...

I'm already a fan of PSB, but this was my first visit to the new Division location. Husband and I never stray from The Reggie Deluxe, never... and i'm not upset about it either. Food, as always, never disappoints! The biscuits were buttery and flaky, the chicken moist and crunchy, the bacon, the gravy, the CHEESE, the egg.... OH MY GOLLY! I appreciate a closer location in which we can now sit. We sat in the covered patio which was really nice. Food came out fast and hot. The only thing we disliked, at all, was the hostess was a B. She was beyond not interested in taking our order, and since we know what we want it's not like we're on of those irritating indecisive people who ask a lot of questions. So that was a bummer, but hey Portland is a magnet for hipster douchies

I can't explain to you how much can I love Pine State. SOoooooooooo amazing. I've never put a single thing in my mouth there that wasn't the best I've ever had of that particular thing. Pine State makes me proud to be a Portlander and is the first breakfast place (that or Cameos) that I take any out of town guests.

This spot is very popular so don't come on the weekend before 1:00 PM if you cannot stand on concrete for a long wait or if you are just impatient. We enjoyed the food and didn't mind the casual setting but, again, they're popular, so if you don't like the idea of possibly sharing a picnic table with strangers like we did this isn't for you. Also very casual service...they are polite but very busy so if you're looking for more personal service this that kind of place. Most everything we ordered was delish--the infamous Reggie Deluxe, regular biscuits and gravy (half meat/half mushroom), fried tomato, and the warm spiced apples. I was a bit disappointed that the fried tomato was red not green but it tasted fine. We really enjoyed the food, and we will be back but not at the busiest time of morning on the next visit. Good to know: *The majority of the seating is outdoors in a covered area that is closed in with heavy plastic (clear vinyl?) draping. I was thankful they thought to add outdoor heaters to the space, it makes a big difference on a rainy Portland day. *Parking spaces in front are only 30 minutes. Park futher away and walk to PSB or take your chances and hope you don't get towed before you finish your meal. *Close to public transit (Trimet #4, #70, two blocks from #9, #19 and #17 and MAX is coming soon) and fine for those on bikes or on foot.

We came here today for the first time at 12:30pm. There was a 40 minute wait out the door (in the cold) before we could place our order at the counter. There was another 5 minute wait for a table to clear inside and another 34 minutes before our food arrived. Unfortunately, we witnessed 3 other tables receive their orders before us, even though they ordered and were seated after us! Our food finally came out shortly after I asked a staff member to check on our order. Honestly, the food was just okay, but definitely not worth the long wait. The line out the door stayed steady until we left. Seating is very limited unless you're prepared to sit outside. We ordered the Reggie Deluxe, 2 Reggies along with an order of cajun fries, lemonade and old fashioned rootbeer. The Reggie is a biscuit with a deep fried chicken breast, bacon, cheese and country gravy, the Deluxe comes with a fried egg. I know the biscuits are homemade since you can watch them make them at the counter, but the fries seemed premade. Coffee, water, getting silverware and condiments are self-serve and you have to bus your own table. If you plan to come here, be prepared for a long wait.

I've been to this new location twice now. The service is fast and friendly and I've never had to wait in line or for a table there yet, though a line had formed by the time I finished at 10 AM on a Friday. The food is the same goodness as with all the locations. However, the sandwiches have always left me wanting more-- more salt, spices, and contrasting flavors. The Reggie Deluxe is the best I've had, having The Wedgie this most recent time (which didn't have the blue cheese flavor like it should have.) They also serve the best coffee in the world, so that's a plus as well!

Okay, now I see what this place is so popular. I popped in here this morning to check another breakfast spot near the office. Since I grabbed a 30-minute spot on the street to park I was a bit concerned when four people walked in just before me. I was worried I wasn't going to have enough time to wait to order and then wait for my food. I worried for nothing, people. I surveyed the menu and finally decided on The Chatfield. Since I was ordering to go, I avoided the yummy offerings that had gravy. It was a difficult decision but I chose what I thought would be the neatest biscuit to eat in the car. The place was pretty packed inside, though there were all kinds of picnic tables on the patio that were empty. I quickly popped in to the restroom and by the time I was done, so was my sandwich. I grabbed this neat little bundle of goodness and headed out the door. I ended up eating the sandwich on the picnic table at the office instead of the car so the gravy wouldn't have been a problem after all. But I did love what I got. Succulent, fried chicken, thick cut bacon and cheese slathered with apple butter and encased in a gigantic biscuit. Who wouldn't enjoy that?!?!

I'm certainly a fan. Got the Reggie Deluxe based on previous reviews, and I was certainly happy. Went in around 10pm on Friday night and there was no line. Service was quick, friendly and the restaurant was pretty clean. It definitely was worth the trip out for it, and I'll definitely be back.

I've had biscuits, gravy, fried chicken, and bacon, but never combined into one delicious meal. Needless to say, Pine State Biscuits managed to achieve a pretty good amalgamation of the aforementioned ingredients. The biscuits were soft, thick, and flaky, and the chicken was crispy, moist, and not overly-fried. The bacon didn't taste like anything special, but it got the job done by adding a bit of texture and saltiness on top of the chicken and biscuits. The gravy seemed like it had a mushroom soup/milk base (I might be completely wrong on this), but I enjoyed it and liked the little pieces of meat mixed in with it. Overall, the whole meal was pretty satisfying. If you're looking for a hearty breakfast as early as 7 am in the morning and aren't on cholesterol-lowering meds, then this is absolutely the place for you to eat. I can't eat this every day, but it was unarguably good for what it is -- a rich and tasty American breakfast. Parking is pretty easy to find early in the morning. The line also seems to get longer the once 9am rolls around.

This place is always busy every time I go by. I had to take myself to breakfast there. It was total comfort food. The biscuits tasted like Mom's homemade recipe. I got a pulled pork BBQ biscuit sandwich and tried the flat iron steak hashbrowns and the fried chicken sandwich with apple butter. Yummy but too much food! So in a way I got to eat there twice.

We went to the division street Pine State for a Sunday breakfast. We haven't been back to Pine State for about a year. I remember freshly fried and not greasy chicken of the Reggie on a fresh biscuit and sunny side egg. There was some passion and care in the preparation. A year later and it seems the passion is gone. The chicken was a little cool and definitely not prepared to order. The biscuits still taste good, but a little on the dry side. The egg was completely over cooked and no attention to preparation. The sausage gravy is still tasty, but just barely dusted the plate. The Bloody Mary is still nice, and the hot sauces do somewhat save the dish. The staff were friendly and helpful. I really want to like this local establishment, but they seem be going the way of other restaurants that open new doors - mass producing and limited quality control. I will give them another shot, but only one more chance. We will see.

Affordable deliciousness. I've tried a pretty wide range of goodies from Pine State, and haven't had anything there that was bad. Quite the opposite, most of the things I've tried have been fantastic. My favorite is probably the Chatfield (their apple butter is drool worthy delicious). The hubs loves their biscuits and gravy, and the hush puppies with Aardvark hot sauce. We both enjoy the rustic feel of the place, and the drinks in big mason jars. It can be a little tough to get seating here, particularly if you have a large party, but all the food is pretty easy to take to-go too. It's self-bussing/cleaning here, but you can waive down one of the staff and they'll wipe down the table for you. TIPS: Avoid this place during Sunday brunch, the line can get ridiculous. Try to avoid eating too too much, because the biscuits really expand in your stomach. And, (if you're not feeling a heart-attack inducing biscuit sandwich) their cornmeal blueberry pancakes are really, really good too.

Amazing biscuits, you want more? These are really amazing biscuits that are worth the wait. This is a meal that will stick with you through the day. I had the Reggie Deluxe. This is a huge house made biscuit with fried chicken, and egg, bacon and cheese topped with gravy. Hangover cure perfected on a plate. It was done perfectly. I know my doctor is going to kill me for this, but I also had the Andouille corn dog. This is house made sausage done corn dog style with a killer honey and mustard mix. My wife had the Wedgie; fried chicken, fried green tomato, a wedge iceberg lettuce and blue cheese dressing. Pine State took my favorite "salad" (salad is a loose term when referring to a wedge) and made it better. You are going to see lines, but they move fast. The service is great and the food is greater.

Reggie Deluxe is what I always ordered every time I go to this place. A combination of fried chicken, egg, and gravy are always yummy! You just need to order at the cashier, and they will call your order to pick up your food and you can sit wherever you want. simple enough.

The biscuit sandwich is unfortunately one of the few innovations that we can lay claim to in Portland. We don't have Microsoft, we don't have Boeing, but we have a bunch of people who can lay around in the kitchen putting chicken between biscuits. It turns out well due to sheer excess. The gravy, eggs and bacon only compliment this masterpiece. Southeast has always had a lot to do, so it's naturally fitting to bring Pine State Biscuits here. I walked in and they served The Reggie to my table very quickly, in about five minutes or so. It was good, but the appeal is declining. We might need to shake up the sandwich scene. It was once a jaw drop to put fried chicken between biscuits, but that is no longer. The chicken was crispy and the biscuits were well made. They served it circular on a predictable plate, yet without the crowding that the Alberta Arts District has had. It was easy to pickup and I didn't get much on myself. Pine State Biscuits is onto something.

Waited 20 min in line for this place and it was worth it. I ordered The Reggie Deluxe (fried chicken, bacon, cheese, topped with shiitake mushroom gravy and a fried egg). It is very large and I split this with my man. The chicken was slightly dry and the fried egg was not cooked fresh, which was disappointing but overall was tasty. Also ordered a house made biscuit with marionberry jam, my husbands favorite berry. This was excellent. They need to expand into the building next door to provide more space overall. There are only 6-7 seats here, so eating here likely won't happen for you.

Let me start this by saying that I've been in an anti-chicken phase for some time now. No idea why, I just avoid chicken. So when my buddy suggested I try Pine State, I was skeptical. I mean, the reviews are great, and there's almost always a line outside the door, but it's _chicken_. I finally agreed to check it out. I ordered the Chatfield--haven't had apple butter in years, and it sounded good. I'm pretty sure I heard harps and angels when I took the first bite. There may have even been a unicorn. It was that good. The chicken/bacon/cheese/apple butter flavor combination was perfect. And the biscuit? The biscuit was better than my mom used to make (sorry ma.) I definitely recommend doing a late lunch here, as there isn't much room inside, and the line can get pretty daunting during the "normal" lunch hour. But go. For the love of all that is good and holy, go sink your teeth into their biscuits.

After a year of living in Portland, I finally made it the Pine Street Biscuits to see what all the hype is about. Safe to say, Pine Street lives up to the hype. We ordered the standard fare, biscuits & gravy with a few sides. The mushroom gravy was the perfect consistency and the taste was decadent but not overly salty like some 2nd-rate southern cafes. The grits were hearty and also boiled down to the right consistency. I was a bit disappointed with the portion size but maybe it was for the best in the long run. Overall, I give Pine Street three thumbs way up!

This place is a must see. You will not only get the best biscuits and gravy in the city, but you can watch the friendly crew assemble them. Seating is limited but customers do a great job of bussing their own tables and remaining courteous to those waiting. A+

OMG! Blubber on top of blubber on top of blubber in between two slices of blubber with blubber poured over the top! Translation: Delicious fried chicken with cheese and bacon on top, in between a biscuit with gravy poured over the top. Throw a little hot sauce in the mix, and, BAM! You've got a meal that keeps full for most of your drive from Portland to the Bay Area (started getting hungry right before I got to Vacaville. And I am ashamed to say that this was the first time I actually got to try some Stumptown coffee, and I have to say, even out of one of those thermos containers (which i normally poo-poo on) it was delicious! I would definitely recommend this place.....even if you are on a diet (it is worth it). I went in on a Monday morning, so did not encounter the long waits that everyone keeps talking about. Walked in, sat down, ate, and left.

Yummy biscuits and amazing cheese and gravy fries make this place a PDX hotspot. Overall the comfort food vibe here is solid but even though the meat gravy is one of the best I've had the biscuits were just OK. There was something just sort of blah about them. They lacked the flavor of your grandma's home made buttery biscuits recipe and were not as good as my mom's iron skillet version. Very nice and helpful staff make this busy spot a joy to visit even if the biscuits don't blow you away. But the gravy... Oh that stuff is good. Very good.

I'm a recent convert to Pine State and I must admit I've already settled into a predictable pattern of "regular orders". Their biscuits are so delicious. Soft and chewy on the inside with a nice, brown crisp on top. I keep it simple with an egg and slice of cheese and all the flavors stand out. Their sweet tea is usually amazing and their fries with cajun spice keep me coming back for more. Service can be hit or miss but if you are flexible about outdoor, covered, enclosed seating options - you can usually be in and out in 45 minutes - for those of us who grab brunch in between meetings and other commitments. Highly recommend.

I had my last meal here and I realized Portland is not a place for healthy eating, but a place with a lot of breakfast and brunch spots. So if you love love love brunch, pine state is worth the wait. Biscuits are ok but I wish they were flakier. Gravy was good. smothered fries really yummy. I also got the biscuits with pulled pork which was a nice change from all the breakfast fried food and eggs (not saying it's healthy at all). Pass on the pecan pie. Wish I had room for the cocktails. Large portions which is probably cuz they know you'll probably be hungry after the long wait!

Wow. This eclectic little biscuit bar has everything you would ever need. Homemade everything, and the best damn fried chicken biscuit this country girl has has this side of the Mississippi! You can sit in the outdoor area with your canine companion and enjoy the view and wonderful staff. A+

The biscuits are to die for, when you think biscuits you think kinda dry like bread, nope pine state's biscuits are definitely moist and soft with a semi toasted outside . The place is overall pretty small so definitely consider going with a smaller group , I went with a group of 6 and for one if the biggest tables, but probs Ly a size of 2 or 4 would be recommended or even going by yourself! It has a unique system where you bus your own tables, get your own utensils and sauces, and get your own water its definitely different than being served but it works out which is nice ! The food is definitely to die for their food mainly involves either biscuit sandwiches with fried chicken , the most popular is "The Reggie" and "The Reggie Deluxe" it consist of a biscuit sandwich with fried chicken, cheese , and bacon lathered in their delicious sausage gravy! The difference between the two is the deluxe has an egg while the normal doesn't . we also had sides to share as a group , Cajun fries and hash ups the hash ups were amazing I'd recommend it if you like hash browns or any potato like foods!

For the line that we waited in..I don't think it was worth it. Maybe Pine State Biscuits was overly hyped for me so I came in high expectations but it just didn't do it. While the food was good, it wasn't great and it definitely was not the best biscuit I have ever eaten. I'm attributing this to a off day since a lot of stuff were already sold out by the time we arrived - around 12ish on a Sunday. I really wanted to love you Pine State Biscuits!

Another outpost of PSB is now open, and while it should cause cheers, I think they're still ironing out some of the kinks. When it's busy, there is WAY not enough seating. As soon as we were done (like literally, as soon as the last bit of food was gone) they asked us to leave so our table could be vacated. I get it, you're busy, but that just sours the experience. The food was...just okay. The hash-ups just were not up to par. The edges were too crispy and the middle not cooked enough. The cheese on the biscuits wasn't melted enough, either. Seems like they're suffering from that classic expansion problem where the food suffers. I'll stick to Alberta, thanks!

This place is so tasty. And not just their biscuit sandwiches, but other things too. I'm a big fan of their shrimp and grits and the hashbrowns are just great as well. The price of their menu is really reasonable and it's great having this place within skateboarding distance of my worksite. See you guys soon!

I had Pine Street bookmarked, but I was pretty excited to see this new location, we were hoping not to wait too long. When we arrived, the line was out the door. It is counter service, so you place your order and then fend for yourself when it comes to finding a place to sit. We stood in line for approximately 40 minutes, and after placing our order, the stars aligned and a group was getting up to leave, so we were able to grab their seats at the counter. I couldn't decide what to get, so I decided to get two items, the food is pretty reasonably priced, so you just have to. My first item was The Chatfield, Fried Chicken, bacon, and cheddar cheese topped with apple butter. Heart attack on a plate. They had me at apple butter. I love the stuff. This was so good. My second order was the Pine State Fried Club, comes with 3 different items, fried grits topped with fried chicken and spiced honey, fried green tomato, and country ham and white cheddar. The country ham and white cheddar was simply amazing, I would get this item by itself. The fried green tomato wasn't that great. I washed this all down with apple cider served in a large mason jar. They were able to accommodate my vegan friend, although she said her dish wasn't that great, under seasoned, I guess they have a better vegetarian menu than vegan. It was cool to watch the guy make the biscuits while sitting at the counter. What wasn't cool was having people stand near you while you ate so they could grab your sit when you leave. This place was packed and there really wasn't a place for people to stand that wasn't in the way. They serve Cheerwine for you folks who are fans (in the bottle, not in the fountain) I have only had it in NC, wasn't a fan, tasted like cherry Dr. Pepper to me. Overall, I enjoyed my breakfast.

My first time going to Pine State Biscuits and it was amazing. We all ordered the Reggie Deluxe and we all decided it was the best!! The gravy was so creamy and tasty.. I would recommend Pine State Biscuits..what a great place!!! The Bloody Mary was great too!! And I heard the Mimosa was yummy. Definitely will be going back..

Could possibly be the best sandwich in Portland! OMG I am stuffed. Got the Reggie - biscuit , big ass fried chicken breast (cooked perfectly), bacon, sausage gravy & cheese. There can be long lines, but dammit it is well worth it. Be ready to die & go to heaven! Don't walk - run there and try their kick-ass food...., Cannot wait to go back. UPDATE: I've been back 2 more times and still love this place. The food is so damn good it makes me tear up. Today I tried the chicken salad & wow - best chicken salad I have ever had and loved it on their amazing biscuits!

Wanted just a "light" breakfast so opted for the biscuits with sausage gravy - 2 biscuits in a gravy puddle for $5. It came out super fast. The biscuits were nice and buttery and the gravy was spicy (surprise!). Perfect for breakfast. While waiting in line (10 min wait on a Tues morning) a couple behind me was commenting that it was sad how this was what passes for Southern food in PDX. They said the fried chicken was only okay so I chose to pass on it.

The food here is good. However, the overall dining experience is a big let down. First, the big line you need to wait in to order. I'm not a fan of the ordering food at the counter and get a number style of food delivery, but I can manage. What I don't want to deal with is a 45 minute wait at the table after the wait to order. Sorry, that's way too long. My dining companion tipped them 20%, a lot for counter service IMO, and requested a mimosa "light on the OJ." Unfortunately, they gave him a standard one, mostly OJ. The second one, which he had preordered and after he reiterated the "light on the OJ" thing, was given to him in a tiny glass, with less OJ, but with about two shots worth of liquid. The staff just had an attitude which gave the impression they thought we should be honored to be eating there. No thanks.

My pal and I went here to try out their biscuits. Since it was my first time I chose the Reggie which is chicken, gravy, and a biscuit. Now I've had food like this before but warning, if you're not used to thick hearty food, be prepared. The food literally sticks to your ribs and you won't want to eat anything else for the whole day, which can be a good or bad thing. That being said the biscuits were good, service was fast and friendly. Pricing is super affordable. It can get busy so get there early. They have seating inside and outside as well.

Went on a Wednesday morning around 9am. Mixed crowd, some groups of 3, and 2, like 15 total. Line was pretty quick. Cornmeal pancakes- great texture/tooth feel, just a really good pancake, perfectly cooked and the blueberries were not too sweet and not too sour, just great flavor. Reggie deluxe- the gravy was great, fried chicken had great flavor, the biscuit is awesome, it's a great dish. We put ketchup and tabasco on it and it really gave it the kick it needed. Shrimp and grits- i love grits and these were great, the shrimp had good flavor and you can never go wrong with bacon. Steak Hashups- this is a solid dish, steak, hashbrowns, cheese, some seasoning, it's really good. I will definitely come back here, the service was good, they provided to go boxes and they took care of our reggie that had some sort of foil in it, i think it was the cap to some sort of bottle, like the protecting seals. They also serve stumptown coffee and it was really good.

Being a vegetarian, this has to be the pinnacle of the biscuits and gravy experience... Creamy, rich, packed with umami flavor and a few pieces of mushroom for texture, the gravy is the best I've ever had... The biscuits are the perfect compliment.. fresh and crispy.... Buttery ... The Everest of biscuits and veggie gravy for me...

A cut and paste, with a few changes, from the location that closed, or to be more correct moved to this location. If your only experience eating the classic American biscuit is McDonalds, Cracker Barrel, Denny's or some chain do yourself a favor, go to Pine State Biscuits. Pine State makes the best biscuit I have had since my grandmother passed away many years ago. Pine State's large fluffy biscuits can be made into a sandwich with a number of well made fillings. My favorite is the Reggie Deluxe - huge biscuit, fried chicken breast, bacon, cheese, egg and a good helping of southern gravy, ad a side of grits. Everything in the sandwich is perfect. Health food it's not, perfect American southern fare it is. FYI - the gravy is out of this world. Ask them to top their hashbrowns with some gravy, wow! Better yet how about a stack of Blueberry Cornmeal Pancakes with a piece of fried chicken covered in gravy on the side? I'm not sure if they squeeze their own orange juice or if it comes out of a carton, but it's some of the best I have had. The food is easily 5 stars, better than 5 in fact. Bottom line if you're in Portland and want to sample the perfect American biscuit you must try Pine State Biscuits.

One of our favorite breakfast spots to go to in Portland! Love their biscuits and gravy with hash ups on the side or a classic Reggie Deluxe! Their gravy is the best gravy I've ever had. Wish they would put more on the Reggie Deluxe instead of just a couple tablespoons but I guess they have to cut costs somewhere. When we first started going 2 years ago the Reggie used to be HUGE, there would be so much left over it would last two more meals but it seems they kept the price the same and downsized on the biscuits. Even when it's really crowded we've had decent luck 90% of the time getting a seat, the other 10% we had to eat in the car cause there was no place for us to sit (even outside).

Been coming to Pine state for a few years, and I love the food... well, sometimes i do. For the last year, every single time i get the reggie, or any chicken for that matter, it's overcooked, dry, and tough. Every.Single.Time. I don't know why, or what happened, but it's a major disappointment. I would go so far as to say that it's actually one of the worst fried chicken places in portland. The service at the new location is terrible too. Apathetic hipsters that could really care less about your experience, and their attitudes towards you. I always feel slightly unwelcome when i go. Sadly, I think the legend of Pine state has outgrown itself, and they no longer care about maintaining food quality and creating a friendly customer experience. I used to love this place, and i will still eat here for other things. (the trio is insanely good, aside from the chicken. The country gravy is the best I've ever had as well.) STOP OVERCOOKING THE CHICKEN AND HIRE FRIENDLY PEOPLE....PLEASE.

Mr. J had the The McIsley ‐ 6 (Fried chicken with pickles, mustard & honey) he loved it but it need less mustard & honey sauce..it was a bit over powering. We shared the Andouille Corn Dog ‐ 4 (Homemade featuring Otto's Andouille Sausage served with stone ground mustard and honey)...DELICIOUS! I had Shrimp-N-Grits ‐ 7 (Pacific caught shrimp sauteed in garlic, green onion, mushrooms, and bacon, served over a bed of Ayers creek grits). Pretty yummy however it lacked salt, acidity and less butter or oil on the plate please :) It was very filling and I would order it again! I had the Bloody Mary and Josh had the Arnold Palmer, both super yum! We waited in line for about 35 minutes or so and spent $25 for brunch/lunch for the two of us...not bad:) We are definitely coming back to try...ummmm one of everything else on the menu!

The owner dislikes dogs!! I had my dog on the patio which is outside! They said they don't allow dogs. I asked why since we are outside, they said "the owners decision." I really can't support a place in which the owner dislikes dogs. My dog is my son and I feel like fellow portlanders probably feel the same way. He isn't bothering anyone and we are outside! I hope the owner reads this and I hope u step in dog shit today!

Biscuits are good fluffy only slightly chewy in a good way. And good flavor. We had the chicken club, which had a great portion of iceberg lettuce and perfectly fried chicken. We also had the Reggie deluxe with mushroom gravy as an option over sausage gravy which I'm sure is great. That was good as well. To drink I had lemonade which is made with real lemons and a small amount of sugar I added sugar to sweeten it up a bit. The Apple butter is excellent as well. We also had the bbq pulled pork biscuit. I really wanted to like this, it has a vinegar based flavor, I just wanted a little more flavor from the pork. Overall it was good.

I love Pine State! This visit I had the Reggie Delux, just thinking about it makes me want another. Oh, I didn't mention I had a bloody Mary ,coffee, and a side of hash browns too. Great place to go , but please don't camp out there ,the seating is limited on a busy day. everyone deserves a great experience. Yum! Cheers!

It's not worth the 60-90 minute wait in line. The sausage gravy was noteworthy. The house made sausage tasty. Hush puppies were savory and delightful. The biscuits were like hockey pucks. They detracted from the delights of all the other aspects. And as a namesake, expectations were high, and missed by miles. It's just not worth it.

Well worth the 1.4 mile walk from our hotel! Read about the waits and was nervous but I think we came at the best time- around 10AM on a Thursday. There were only 2 people in front of us in line so it went quickly. My husband and I shared a reggie deluxe along with another biscuit + jam. The reggie deluxe was out of this world, not much more I can say about it that hasn't been said already. I almost wish we'd each ordered our own! The biscuit and jam wasn't quite as special but still hit the spot. Wouldn't hesitate to come back.

Do not be fooled by the half empty seating area. Although there were over 30 unoccupied seats, we waited in line for 80 minutes to order. There was only a single cash register. The guy rolling biscuits looked really busy, but some of the other people in the kitchen were just chilling. Operations seemed really inefficient. The guy at the cashier warned us that the hash ups would take 20-25 minutes, but everything else ended up taking that long too. I was okay with the wait time itself, but the food was not very hot when brought to the table, suggesting an issue with timing. The meal was disappointing. I had the Moneyball, a biscuit with shiitake mushroom gravy and 2 over easy eggs ($8). A couple of my friends ordered the chicken club with either ranch or blue cheese dressing ($8), and the chicken was not very crispy. The hashups ($7), which we ordered with steak, were bland and also not crispy. My friend's corn dog ($4) was soggy. My Bloody Mary ($6) was watery.

I asked my LA friends to recommend places in Portland to try, and Pine State Biscuits was unanimously suggested by all of them. The hype is real, guys. The biscuits by themselves are great and their sandwiches are delicious and filling. + REGGIE DELUXE: From what it seems, this is the most popular dish people order. It has their fried chicken, bacon, gravy, and an egg...what more could you ask for? The Fried Chicken is amazing...even with their gravy, the chicken is crispy. The gravy really adds the magic to this dish. It's pretty difficult to eat as a sandwich, so get ready to get a little messy! + BBQ PORK: Since I ordered the Reggie Deluxe, I wanted something with a different meat and a different flavor. This one was very good as well, the BBQ sauce on the pulled pork is mild and sweet. Add some hot sauce for a nice kick to it as well. + BLT: This was the special for the day, and the only one that wasn't sold out, so I figured might as well try it. The BLT was just ok for me, it was hard to eat, and it's pretty basic. Solid, but wasn't anything otherworldly. + CAJUN FRIES: I was tempted to add all the fixins to the fries, but since I ordered the Reggie Deluxe, i couldn't stomach ordering fries with gravy as well. The cajun fries are delicious and great for sharing. Good side to get with your biscuit order!

Damn fine food. Damn fine. I ordered the Reggie (A biscuit sandwich with fried chicken, bacon & cheese topped with gravy). I cleaned my plate. Considering how limited their menu is, I felt like it was kind of a long wait for the food. But still, I cleaned my plate. And the employees seemed more interested in talking to one another than serving customers. But still, I cleaned my plate. And I think I shaved 10-20 years off my lifespan by inhaling this meat and carb fiesta. But still, I cleaned my plate. Yum.

So plan for a nap after a meal at Pine State Biscuits. Waited in line for over 30 minutes with a cast on my leg and I have to admit, it was worth all the trouble. I ordered the Reggie Deluxe, fried green tomatoes and another biscuit with Marionberry jam.. I wish that the biscuit sandwich was warmer, but it was tasty nonetheless. The sandwich was so hearty that I had to save half of the biscuit for later. I could have skipped the fried green tomatoes, but my favorite part of the meal is the Marionberry jam and butter on the reheated biscuits I ate later on. The jam is a delicious marriage of sweet and tart. I would definitely return for a biscuit.

Tasty. Flippin'. Biscuits. Food: After a long walk across the Tilikum crossing (we happened to be in town on preview day!), we made our way to Pine State for a snack. It was a super-hot day and a glass of lemonade and a biscuit sammie sounded great. I had the special sammie, which was fried chicken and hot buffalo wing sauce with lettuce and bleu cheese. Outstanding biscuit, crispy chicken, and spicy sauce. It was fantastic! Others enjoyed their biscuits as well - Reggie, Reggie Deluxe, and even just plain biscuits with butter and jam. Nice selection of cocktails and beers. Awesome snack! Service: Counter service, which works out great. A little wrinkle was when one of the kids in our party got overheated, drank too much icy lemonade, and got sick on the outdoor patio. The staff was very cool about it all and took care of things quickly. That was great. Vibe: Not-yo-grandma's-biscuits-cool. Indoor seating, patio seating, and relaxed all around. A great place to enjoy some tasty biscuits and drinks. Family-friendly: Absolutely. Even when one of them boots all over the patio. :) Summary: This is a great location to go to, especially when the Alberta street location is jam packed. The biscuits are great, the drinks are wonderful, and it's an easy place to have a snack or a full-on meal. I'll be back for certain.

This place is very well known so if you're going here you likely know this. SHOW UP EARLY. There is almost always a line and while it does move somewhat fast, if it's around the corner there is still a long wait. The food is amazing. All of it. Not one thing is bad. The photo I attached is of the Reggie Deluxe and the Berry Biscuit. One thing I want to say is while it looks like super heavy stick to your ribs food, they don't go crazy on portions so it's really not as heavy as you think. Don't get me wrong, it is filling, but it's not overkill. Must visit when in Portland.

We had high hopes of dining at Screen Door for fried chicken & biscuits, but the line was too long - a few bus rides later we found ourselves here at Pine State. We waited in line for a good 45 minutes before ordering and sitting down. Food took another 15 minutes but once they delivered the goods to our table, it was go time. From their intriguing menu, we ordered: - The Reggie Deluxe - The Wedgie - Side of Hash Ups All were tasty, large in size and beyond filling. If you're planning on coming here, I'd suggest splitting 1 biscuit and 1 hash ups, because the hash ups are a meal by itself! If you're ok with waiting in a line and want to dine in a cutesy area with lots of shops and what not.... PSB is your spot!

This is more like a 4.5. The Reggie is amazing...and a 5 on its own. If I went back I might even go for the deluxe. Everything melds together perfectly with just the right amount of fat and salt...it somehow doesn't feel as excessive as it looks after you eat it. All of the components are good enough that they would be delicious on their own. So why 4.5 instead of 5? I thought the collard greens were mediocre. The only other thing i will add is that next time i will ask for extra gravy. Aside from the greens though, I would absolutely be a regular if I lived in the area.

When I asked people about food recommendations in Portland, this place kept being suggested so I made it a mission to eat here. I'm glad I did. If you look at their pictures on here, you will realize that there's a trend. Most people order The Reggie Deluxe and if you don't order it or The Reggie, which is a eggless version of it, you're just being silly. It can be inferred that The Reggie is the best item on their menu if people keep ordering it. You should do the same. We ordered the Reggie along with a strawberry dessert with you guessed it...biscuits. The Reggie is basically fried chicken with gravy and cheese in between two biscuits. I cannot emphasize how much I enjoyed this meal. Both my boyfriend and I split one and I instantly regretted the decision as we finished it. The biscuits were not dried out and paired well with the gravy and chicken. If I lived in Portland, this place would definitely be on my monthly visit list. Please open one up in San Diego or Los Angeles. I'd be eternally grateful! Thanks!

I can say pretty confidently that Pine State Biscuits is my favorite thing to eat in Portland. It's delicious AND cheap... What's not to love?! We went to the other location last time, but I like this location better. The outside seating is perfect for a nice day! We went with the following: BISCUIT & SAUSAGE GRAVY - So simple and yummy. The biscuit is buttery and fluffy and the gravy is perfect! So creamy and savory. Love it! REGGIE DELUXE - Always a good choice! The perfect mix of biscuit, gravy, fried chicken, fried egg, and bacon...Awww yeahhh! CAJUN FRIES - Good fries and seasoned well this time. MIMOSA - Very champagne-y! I'm a light drinker and this got me a little tipsy! They offer a multitude of different sauces for your dipping pleasure which are by the window sill near the door to the patio. That's where they have the utensils and napkins as well. Directly across from the sill on the left is the bussing station were you can drop off your dishes after you're done! Great meal! Great value! So much love for this place!!!

So I was referred by a couple of friends that were in oregon in the past. Waited in a really long line, this place was packed at 10:30am. Payed and sat down. I ordered the "reggie deluxe" and my girlfriend ordered blueberry buscuit breakfast special. The reggie deluxe was awesome, my only drawback is I wish they added a little more gravy. The special hot sauce was good with the meal. The sweet tea was good as well. All in all its a pretty legit place to eat. PS. I was visiting from Los Angeles. Food in cali is hard to beat. Portland is pretty much hit or miss when it comes to food. Thai food is on everywhere is is mediocre at best but when it comes to a buscuit sandwich I would have to say this place is one I'd love to come back to eat over and over. Good eating!

I had no wait on a late weekday morning which I'm very grateful for. I ordered the Reggie deluxe which seems to be the popular menu item. In retrospect, I would not have gotten the egg since it was an egg over medium and i was hoping for sunnyside up goodness. The fried chicken was perfectly fried, well seasoned and entirely moist. The biscuit was fluffy and delightful but I ended up not finishing it because the dish was a bit heavy. The gravy was the piece de resistance, tied the entire breakfast dish together nicely. I would come again if it was less than a 30 minute wait.

Delicious as usual. Im giving 5 stars for one dish, because that's the only dish I ever order because that is what I drive to PTown to get to kill the krave. The dish? The Reggie. It's what you should order. It's a perfect balance, biscuit, chicken, cheddar, bacon and gravy. All the components are top notch and make for a superior meal. Sooo good. Today I treated myself to an extra biscuit with strawberry jam and butter. Mmmmmmm. I'm a very happy man. Thank you Pine State.

Incredible! From out of town and stopped in for a quick breakfast only to find an amazing biscuit called the "Reggie D". Do yourself a favor... get it! But you may need to share, it's huge! I may come back here every day we are here. Amazing!

We were daunted by the long line but it moved fairly quickly. This is an order at the counter and then take a seat type of place. I was doubtful we were even going to find a table after ordering, but the crowd control of the line seemed to work out okay. I ordered The Wedgie - fried chicken on a biscuit with fried green tomato, wedge lettuce, and blue cheese dressing. The combination was pretty darn good if I do say so myself. The fiance ordered the Chatfield - fried chicken with bacon and apple butter. I was pretty jealous about the apple butter bit and unfortunately didn't remember to try a taste before he devoured it. We also shared a biscuit with whipped butter and honey for dessert. Some people might think the meal had too much biscuit involved, but nuh-uh, not me. Yumminess all around.

I've always had a great experience here. Food is delicious, staff is friendly. Line is long but HEY, it's Portland. We wait in line for ice cream in December. Make sure you have good company with you. Wait for food can be a hit & miss. This last time I brought a friend here for her 1st time & we waited probably over 45minutes for our food. Luckily we kept ourselves entertained & chatted. Amazing biscuits & friend chicken! Gravy could use some salt though! That's just me!

This is comfort food at its best. For all the flavor with an equal does of cholesterol, look no further than Pine State Biscuits as the go-to spot for getting your grub on. My co-workers and I basically took over the place for an all-out bacchanal where we were encouraged to shamelessly sample the menu to our heart's content. Of course, this is easy when you have a menu that basically consists of everything your dietician warns you never to eat. I settled for a the Chatfield, a sandwich that consists of Fried chicken, bacon and cheese topped with apple butter served on - of course - a fluffy biscuit. The apple butter made this sandwich for me. Paired with a tall beer and some zesty cajun fries, I was in glutton heaven. I was tempted to order a second round but instead decided to wander the floor and sample off other people's plates instead. The restaurant selection in PDX never ceases to impress me. You can add PSB to the top of a long and exceptional list.

Maybe it was the takeout. Maybe it was an off day. But to me, Pine State didn't live up to all the hype it gets. I have no problem waiting half hour or so in line for brunch--but unfortunately when I did get my meal, I was underwhelmed. Not that anything was truly bad. I did a make-your-own biscuit sandwich, with chicken, egg, cheese, and apple butter. The problem is that everything, both individually and combined, was just mediocre. The apple butter was by far the best thing about the sandwich, which was dry and lacked flavor for the most part. A decent biscuit sandwich. But in no way the best I've tasted, or one that left me in a rush to hurry back.

The ultimate in Roman themed gluttony, with a Pacific Northwest twist. I really can't say enough good things about this place. The service was great, the food was undeniable, and the food was un-de-ni-able. That's not a typo. Pine State Biscuits, held a special dinner for the West Coast CMs during their yearly pilgrimage to team building mountain. This location is normally a morning & daytime spot, but they opened up at night just for us and we were made to feel super special. Who doesn't like food hugs? The menu is here is direct and to the point: Biscuit Sandwiches, Biscuits n' Gravy, and Other. "Hmmm, I'll have the biscuit sandwich". My meal's official name is the, "Reggie Deluxe". The "Reggie" has fried chicken, bacon & cheese topped with gravy. The "Deluxe" version simply has a fried egg on top. I tried to tackled this monster like it was a traditional sandwich, but it was simply too strong and I had to bust out the hardware. You'd think the flavors in a sandwich like this might get lost because there's so much going on, but each layer of flavor heaven shined. The biscuits had a little crunch on the outside and a pillowy inside, yet they didn't get mushy after a generous gravy bath. The fried chicken was very flavorful and extremely moist, and the gravy was chug worthy. To top it off, the egg was cooked perfect and when the yolk was broken it coated this dish in golden happiness. As a table we shared a plate of fries and ordered them, "covered and smothered". This meant both cheese and gravy colliding in a foodie battle royal. Yes. These were great. Pine State Biscuits also offers a bevy of made-to-order specialty cocktails and a solid beer selection. They have to have good beer, it's Portland. If you're traveling to Portland soon, bookmark this place, it's must. They have three locations so take you foodie-loving traveler.

Another day in Portland, another wait in line for food. We drove by here a few times and always saw a line snaking onto the street, so we figured it had to be good. After a 30min wait, we both ordered the Reggie Deluxe, along with a side of fries topped with cheese and smothered in sausage gravy. Overall, not the best biscuit sandwich I've ever eaten, and not the worst. The fried chicken was good, but my egg was overcooked, which was hard to overlook. There's nothing better than a runny yolk mingling with biscuits and gravy. Amirite?

PSB is the best. These guys have built a local empire, and this new(ish) location is a testament to their ongoing success. We always take out of town guests here at least once during their visit. Pine State is so quintessentially Portland that nobody should visit without stopping by. It is also so quintessentially greasy that making it part of your routine puts you on the express train to an extra 50 lbs. The how to guide: -If you come here and you don't order something with biscuits, you're stupid. Biscuits is what they do. -So the question is whether you want a biscuit sandwich or just biscuits with stuff on them. Both are perfectly valid choices, but expect greater quantity with a sandwich. If you're not that hungry, I'd recommend just doing biscuits and gravy (maybe with an egg on top... that's called the Moneyball). That way you get the two things that PSB is best at without all the extra stuff. -If you're going with biscuits and gravy, you have to decide if you want sausage or mushroom gravy. If you're vegetarian, congratulations: the decision is made for you. But if you're not, this is a tough choice that I grapple with every time because they are honestly both great. -If you decide on a sandwich, your decision isn't as difficult. Vegetarians should get the Regina, and omnivores should get the Reggie. Deluxe if you want an egg. Dump some hot sauce on top if that's your jam. -Get some coffee and drink it. This location is relatively more spacious than their NE Alberta location. Outside seating is great, but there is ample space inside too. If you have a table, don't be a jerk. Get up and let someone else have a table when you're done. And if going to a restaurant isn't your jam (which, for the record, would be odd), they have a cart at the PSU Saturday Market on the South Park Blocks. The moral of the story is: come here. Then try to restrain yourself from coming back every day.

For the amount of time that you wait in a line at pine state I do have to admit I was kinda disappointed, I am not sure what all the hype is around this place. For a place who specializes in biscuits I thought they were kind of a let down. Portions are on the smaller size, I ordered the money ball with an extra egg, it's one biscuit smothered in gravy and topped with two eggs. The biscuit was small so by the time you are finished your just left with a plate of gravy. The gravy is nothing to write home about its very greasy and just has over chopped sausage in it, little on the papery side. They do have brunch drinks and a coffee bar, not really into restaurants where I have to walk through crowds to bus my own table, or get up and fight a crowd for a refill on coffee. I have tried two different locations now and both have kind of left me disappointed I must say. I think when it comes to breakfast there are many other places around the Portland area, I've waited at some for just as long and had a outstanding meal. Probably will not return after coming to this location, it seems the lack of customers service from the unfriendly staff is a common trend. They do however make a pretty awesome Bloody Mary but the slimy okra on the drink is kinda gross, I would consider replacing it with something else.

I've finally gotten the chance to give this place a go! This place is okay, it's not bad not great either. Maybe I just came in on an off day, the lady at the front desk was new, it was gloomy outside, who knows! Anyways, I got there with only two people on line. I got at the cashier and ask for a recommendation, since this is my first time here. The lady said, well everyone gets the Reggie, since that's what they are known for. I then asked if she had tried the gravy, she said once and shyly confessed that she is new and in training. Okay, make sense, I went for the Reggie deluxe, sat down and got my food in less than 10 minutes! (Now that's lightning speed in my book!) I dig in and it was just okay. Not a fan of the chicken, the biscuits are alright. However I have to say, that the gravy was the star of my meal! I could have sat there and be happily content just eating the darn gravy! Ha! It was that good! I just felt that with all the hype and every single person I spoke with raves about this place, I came in expecting to have my mind blown. (Like insane to the membrane good!!) I'll probably come back, since I really loved the gravy and now know better to go for the Money Ball!

    - Great ambience, fast service - There's a short wait, but well worth it - Fair prices - On the heavier side, I'd get a sweet one to match with the savory choice (The Reggie) - The Reggie was filling; sausage gravy on the saltier side but the biscuit help

This was not bad, but for how much everyone seems to rave about it, I thought it was just ok. I like Serious Biscuit in Seattle a lot more! I built my own with fried chicken, egg, and mushroom gravy. The sausage gravy was better though (my friend got biscuits and gravy so I snatched some). Nothing in particular stood out to me. Another friend got the Hash Ups, which was a lot of of hash brown topped with some meat and other items that I do not recall. I love hash browns so it was good for what it was. Pretty spacious outdoor patio seating. Small amount of seating inside.

This location is great for lunch. Not overly busy, limited seating inside but plenty out in the covered tent area. This location is clean, good signage to keep flow of traffic moving and friendly. Order your food, get a number, bus your own table at the end. I ordered the The Moneyball, which is a biscuit, gravy and topped with an over easy egg. Tasty goodness is all I can say. I'll definitely return again and/or check out the other locations.

Service stinks. Well phone service at least. This is one of those places that is more than happy to say they take "to-go" orders but actually will tell you to go-fly-a-kite when you try to make one. Fried chicken is sub-par, but the corn dogs and biscuit sandwiches are pretty great if you can deal with snotty service. Might not be at all locations, but for sure at this one. Won't be going back. I spend my money at places that treat their customers with respect. If wanted to pay to be treated like shit, I'd see a dominatrix. PRO-TIP: Don't offer services your business can't consistently offer.

I went through a phase during college, where all I wanted was biscuits. Several times a week, it was homemade biscuits. I had a blue mug that I would use to press the biscuits--it was just the right size. After months of this, I had nearly perfected my biscuit recipe. They were pillowy, but flaky, and somehow still crisp. They were easily de-layered, perfect with butter and jam, and the peak of biscuit perfection. As is often done, life marched on. My attention turned to other matters, and I left the issue of biscuits. If I could go back in time, I'd tell that younger me to keep going and push the biscuit further, wider, deeper in to the world of culinary exploration. That's what the owners of Pine State Biscuits have done. They've taken the humble biscuit--once relegated to sloppy Southern breakfasts heaped with gravy--and made it a sandwich. Still available sloppy, still Southern, but oh so much more. From the Reggie with the egg, to the Chatfield, to every single combination on that board, you've got a new something: a biscuit for the 21st century. Add an old school soda and you're washing down history and looking the future in the eyes, topped with crisp bacon.

Shared the Reggie delux for the hubby and got a biscuit and egg for the kid. Total came out to 13!! Definitely hit the spot and perfect portion for 2!

Delicious biscuit sandwiches in a low-key setting. Order at the register (line moved on the slow side), then find a table (we found one easily for brunch on Sunday) and wait while staring down the other tempting plates being brought out to other tables. The Reggie sandwich (fried chicken, bacon, cheese and gravy) was delicious and comforting. You generally can't go wrong with that combination but the gravy was incredible - peppery and meaty. The green salad was a great complement to the heavy, rich sandwich.

Yum yum yum! This location is just as good as the Alberta location! It's pretty small but the line moves quickly and you don't have to wait too long for a seat to clear up. Keep it simple and always get a biscuit with jam or honey butter.

Looking for biscuits like the make in the south, this is the place. When we first arrived, there was a line that went out the door. It moved pretty fast. At first you order, then the cashier gives you a number and you next have to find a table. They cook everything from scratch so by the time our meal was ready we had found a table. My husband ordered the money ball, I did a build your own, and our children had the biscuits with fruit. Best comfort food ever! The gravy was perfect and the biscuits were light and fluffy. It was filling but did not leave us feeling stuffed like gluttons! This is going to be our new favorite brunch spot!

Pine State isn't a local staple for no reason! And having a location back in SE Portland is nice. The sausage gravy is delicious and I've been told that the mushroom gravy is as well, though I personally wouldn't agree being that I don't like mushrooms.

I grew up in the South. And it pains me to write this review, but I've waited far too long and given this chain several re-tries (I remember going to this place when it was just a single outpost on SE Belmont), and have arrived at the same conclusion - this is one of the most overrated chains in Portland. I know I'm going to get alot of hate for this review, especially given how many people LOVE this place and the lines that stretch out of Pine State every weekend morning (which I just don't get). Don't misunderstand - I'm grateful that a locally owned start-up of this kind exists, and the concept of Southern fried chicken biscuits is perfect (not to mention all their locations have cool, industrial looks). Plus, they do serve a pretty great sweet tea. But, as much as I hate to admit it, that heinous, homophobic, conservative-owned chain Chick-Fil-A does a chicken biscuit 100X better than this place. Let me break it down - The biscuit: it's big and it's fairly good, but it's very very dense, not at all fluffy or buttery, and there have been a few times when the texture has almost been hockey puck-like. The fried chicken: this has been consistently average. I've never had a particularly juicy or moist piece of chicken (although it has often been hard to tell because of all the other toppings they dress up their sandwiches with). Additionally, I've always felt that the breading just tasted like pepper and flour - with no additional spices or flavors. And I'm sure there are other spices, but the pepper flavor was always so overwhelming, I didn't get anything else. And - the worst part - the breading often came apart from the chicken, in chunks, so you had the chicken, slightly dry and bland, with a peppery piece of breading sitting on your plate. What I will give them credit for is a vastly creative menu, with different offerings in terms of topping combinations. But, ultimately, the heart of these sandwiches - the chicken and the biscuit - just run average, at best, for me. I doubt that the momentum this place has is gonna change anytime soon (unless some Chick-Fil-As open up in the area), and people are still going to come out in droves for the food here. Which is great, because local businesses keep Portland interesting and unique. I just wish the food itself lived up to all the hype.

Ordered the Reggie with no bacon using mushroom gravy instead. Just thinking about this sandwich makes my mouth salivate. The biscuit was perfectly flavored and baked. The mushroom sauce was amazing. And their house hot sauce is probably the best I have ever tasted . Definitely going back.

I arrived there at approximately 10AM on a Tuesday, the line was kind of long for a breakfast restaurant, arround 15 people, and it was well worth waiting. I ordered a buscuit with sausage gravy, over easy egg, and a side of fried chicken. The order came out appearing completely homemade, the flavor was amazing for buscuits and gravy along with a fantastic boneless fried chicken breast. It was absolutely perfect combined! This place is perfect for a country breakfast with an urban feeling! I'm sure I'll be back!

Pine State Biscuits is so worth the hype!!! My cousins and I ordered the hash up with steak to share, I ordered the Reggie and a biscuit with whipped butter and local honey, my cousin ordered the Reggie Deluxe, and my other cousin ordered the Chicken Club. Everything came out delicious... I tried the sausage gravy with my Reggie and my cousin tried the mushroom gravy with hers... both were very good. The only reason this isn't a 5 star review is that the service wasn't the best. Ordering was fine, but they said the hash up would take 15 minutes to make and come after our food. Well, it actually was the first thing to come. Followed by my Reggie and my cousin's Chicken Club. However, the Reggie Deluxe didn't come out for another 15-20 minutes, and we had to remind the girl twice just to get it. Thankfully my cousin ate the hash up while she was waiting for her real meal to show up.

Came here on a Saturday morning and had to stand in line although having great company helps. Had the wildly popular Reggie with shiitake gravy in all its desiccated glory. Fried chicken was dry and tough. Cheese was melted like plastic and stuck to the biscuit. It makes for a great work out for your jaw in the morning.

It's clean, the staff were friendly, and the wait was bearable. The decor is modern and I like that you can see them making the biscuits. But really, why do I go out to eat? For the food. And the food here just really didn't so it for me. I found the gravy to be over peppered but otherwise not memorable, a little runny, and the biscuits just didn't have that light yet buttery goodness I was expecting. The fries were also pretty bland. Overall, it was a pleasant breakfast, but I don't think the food is worth the hype. Left feeling a little disappointed.

Decided to try this place after not wanting to wait for Screen Door (which I will try eventually...) I was not disappointed. I love fried chicken and Pine State Biscuits concoction is amazing. I got the Reggie Deluxe with a Kentucky Devil and it was delicious. Girlfriend got the Pine State Club with a John Daley and although the drink was a little light, the Club was equally delicious.

What are you waiting for! Get to Pine State and get one of those BISCUITS! The line was longer than most, but the wait was well worth it. We had a couple Reggie's and oh boy, that is the best darn breakfast we have had in a long time! Cannot wait to get back to Portland, because we are going back!

Ordered the Reggie: fluffy-melt-in-your-mouth-biscuits with fried chicken, bacon and topped with gravy. Total food coma. Tip: Do go early or prepare to wait in line as there is limited seating available.

I've been here twice, at different locations. The staff is efficient in getting your order and delivering food quickly. I really enjoyed the sausage and mushroom gravy. In fact, my husband doesn't usually like biscuits but he gave Pine State's biscuits and A++.

They make their biscuits right there. You can see it while you're in line... A line that is long but moves fairly quickly. Food: REALLY GOOD. I had biscuits and gravy with the egg on top (forgot the name). Yeah, it's real gravy too. I went to school in the south and this is real southern style homecookin'. Locally sourced. Bacon was superb. Coffee: Tasty! Have lots! Service: Helpful, quick, friendly. Decor: Fresh, industrial, modern. Cleanliness: The place is clean. Bathrooms: They're clean and spacious. Just past the line outside the door on the left side of the hall and still inside the building, there are two unisex bathrooms. Helpful tips: - Do not save tables while you've got other people in line. - Be mindful of other hopeful diners who would like to sit. In other words, if you wanna be all chatty after you're done eating, maybe take your post-breakfast conversation to a nearby coffee shop. They won't tell you that, but I will. - The napkins, condiments, and flatware are on service stations. I believe there are two, but there might be only one.. or maybe more? But that's where they are. - The bathrooms have this handy lock that lets the person on the outside know if it's occupied with a sign, like on an airplane. All the knocking is unnecessary and interrupts the flow. Read the sign right over the handle.

The Reggie deluxe is AWESOME! Bloody Mary was good too. This year I have visited Portland twice, and both times I ate at pine state and got the same Reggie deluxe and bloody Mary. And I will do it all again the next time I return! Chicken was flavorful and juicy, biscuit was nice and fluffy. Some good stuff.

It's ALL ABOUT THE GRAVY! The biscuits are great... yada yada yada, but so are so many other restaurants in portland, but, what is amazing is the GRAVY! We ordered the Chicken gravy biscuit and a money ball, the chicken was on the dry side for me, but the biscuits and gravy, seriously amazing! Atmosphere is relaxed with limited indoor and outdoor seating, none of waiter/waitress crap, you order your food at the register and they bring it out. Don't be surprised if there is a line out the door... you know your at the right place!

The blueberry cornmeal pancakes and the hashups are the best alternatives when you just aren't feeling the biscuit sandwiches. Wait can be a little long especially on the weekends but they've also added more seating outside which will be nice for the upcoming summer months!

GRAVY. We stick to the Reggie deluxe (a+) Shrimp n Grits (smooooth grits and spicy shrimp) and always a MUST; the MUSHROOM gravy and biscuits! Southern spin and all really good though none of us like the coffee option. Rely on a line but worth the wait unless it's a blizzard outside and you're really hung over. Even then many would find it worth the wait. Very casual, noisy, bargain prices, bus your own table.

I was expecting "spectacular" but my expectations fell flat. I had the Reggie, but found the chicken to be too dry for my taste. The gravy is good tho, and if I go back again I'll make sure to ask for extra as this is a sandwich that could use it.

I waited in line with my friend for nearly 2 hours on a Sunday. The food was good but not great. My biscuits (I ordered the McInsley and an additional biscuit with jam and butter because they were sold out of the fresh peaches and biscuit option I originally settled on while waiting in line for ages; my friend had the Moneyball--I do love their menu names here!) didn't taste fresh though I'm sure they were made earlier that day. The portions were smaller than I expected (which was fine because I wasn't amazed by the flavors) for the price and given what I'd read and heard about. Also, I saw one of the kitchen staff very skillfully unwrap several individually wrapped squares of bright yellow cheese (looked like American to me, but I have no idea) which he chopped up and added, along with some pepper and other ingredients, to a tidy container of what appeared to be some kind of sauce. I'm just not a fan of American cheese (on/in anything... ever) and can also appreciate that it melts and maintains consistency in a special way that other cheeses simply can't. Pine State Biscuits is a solid option for sure but I think the real issue here is me. See, my Mum's always uses Tom Douglas' biscuit recipe and it's pretty much ruined me for any other biscuit. :-/ If you're not interested in making your own, then Pine State Biscuits may be a good option. The fact that the delicious apple cider I ordered wowed me more than my entree was a sign to me that I am happier eating elsewhere BUT I definitely recommend people go here at least once if you're exploring Portland's breakfast/brunch scene. You should especially try this place out if you have limited or no experience with homemade biscuits because they'll probably rock your world.

Four times burned over the course of 8 years...I'll never go back! I had tried this chain three times before and each time I am more than disappointed! But, I kept hearing good reviews and wondered why my experiences were so different. With all the good press I thought I'd give it another try as I must have hit it wrong three times. So, I took my brother who confirmed that I am not crazy. The corker was when I asked for some jam - they CHARGE $1.50 a tablespoon or two of jam! I couldn't believe. I complained and the manager told me the cost of the jam is expensive because it's organic... You know what? I make jam and that jam, whether it's organic or not, did not taste good. There are too many GOOD restaurants in Portland -- I'm not trying it again.

The food is a clear 5 star plus. But NE site is soooo popular, you think when the opened a SE back up they would plan for more room. But no. The line is out the door, out to the side walk and to the corner. So after waiting in line, you finally get crammed into a seat, and it feels like eating in a fish bowl - everyone staring through the glass. That is my only complaint - but a big one. I have brought people down here several times, only to have to come with with an alternative. And coming from Troutdale is too much for that. So my son and I (and at least 3 other couples left today)
