I had to get away from my hotel and the chain restaurants. So I walked a mile in the dark and drizzle to Pho Dalat. Once I got to Pho Dalat, I was a little surprised that no one was there on a Friday. In fact, at first I was hesitant to go in, but after that chilly walk I needed some Pho to warm my bones. I got one of the house specials, D1, which was rice noodles with pork slices, quail egg, imitation crab, shrimp and fish cake. It arrived super heated and accompanied by the usual lime, jalapenos, sprouts and sprigs of cilantro. It was a nice bowl of soup on a cold night. I wanted to give more stars but some things bugged me. For starters, the tops of the Sriracha and the Hoisin were nearly crusted over with ancient sauce, which gave an overall sense of not caring about cleanliness. Initially, I did not like the pho. When it arrived, the top was covered with four large leaves of iceberg lettuce or cabbage. I did not really like the flavor that imparted on the top layer of broth, once removed, problem solved. I would give them another shot someday, but not sure I would walk a mile in the dark and drizzle again.

THE BEST peanut sauce around. Love the spring rolls, and the chicken teriyaki. Service is always great, and even when they are busy they make sure you have tea and water immediately.

Worst customer service you can imagine. So bad in fact that they didn't want to take my business because it was 30min to closing time on a Sunday night. Is the food so good that they would rather turn down business than work until closing time. If they don't care for my business, I certainly will be happy to go elsewhere and guide all my pho loving friends elsewhere as well.

Yelp Challenge 365 # 133/365 Located across the street from my hotel, this place became an easy place for me to pick up some take out and go back to my hotel after a day's work. Looks like its run by a family; brother and sister definitely. Maybe mom and dad were in the kitchen. Food was simple, the broth was great. I think the broth makes the pho, and Pho Dalat hit it with the taste. The service was great, the restaurant is clean. Maybe next time, I will stop in for a meal off the menu rather than just pho.

Not the newest or best appointed place I've been, lets be honest, its a dive...but the staff was pleasant and prompt. Food came out quickly and was hot, tasty and flavorful. Pho was accompanied by cold crisp bean sprouts and fresh Thai basil with limes and jalapeños. (pho with beef and beef meatball). Absolutely couldn't beat the price of $6.50/huge bowl

I can't say how good the food was, because I had to leave due to the ants at my table. Never going here again!

3.5 stars. Seriously YELP... Allow the half point system. Went on a Saturday and enjoyed myself a large bowl of Pho. Was just what it is. Im not sure if I am experienced enough to know what super good pho is vs bad pho but they do a good job. Service was good, people were friendly, food came out fast and I filled up my belly with some salad rolls and a large bowl. Great cold remedy. When I am feeling a little sniffly i go to the nearest Pho place, which in my area is not hard to find. On average i'd say a large bowl of Pho goes for 8.00 and 4.00 for the veggie rolls. this is pretty standard for the industry.

The Pho was ample and the broth flavorful. My bro ordered the fried rice and it was soo tasty he ordered a second and was ready to order a third until I stopped him. That guy can eat. Prices were reasonable and I'd definitely go back.

Been coming here for years and is my go to place for my asian cure all. I am a big fan of pho. I was introduced this dish when I was 16 yeas old. This bowl of noodle soup is very similar to what I grew up with as a child except for the fact we didn't use sriracha and hoisin sauce to flavor the soup accordingly. As a child we didn't eat cereal or eggs and toast in the morning. We ate a bowl of noodles similar to a bowl of pho which was a staple growing up. As an adult we often reminisce about things that bring us comfort as a child and for myself memories of some great meals is something that has brought me a lot of comfort to me. Eating here at Pho Dalat brings much joy to me not only in the comfort zone but also of those fond memories as a child. I come here right about 1-2 a week during the spring summer months and up to 3-4 a week during the fall and winter months. I've become such a regular here that they don't even give me a menu any longer and ask me if I'm going to order my usual or something different. Of course for me its always the usual. The C-1 which is their Pho Dac Biet. Their heaping bowl of Pho is a very savory beef broth with eye of round, tendon, beef meatballs, tripe, onions, cilantro, with accoutrements of bean sprouts, jalapeno, thai basil, and some other asian vegetable that I'm not familiar with. Mixed with your sauces of Sriracha, chili garlic paste, chili oil, and hoisin sauce to your desired flavor and you have yourself a meal fit for a king. I definitely recommend this place for their pho and other traditional vietamese dishes. They have reasonable hours and great customer service. Get your pho on! Happy Eating Everyone!

I have been to the Pho Dalat on se 39th, and did not have a good experience. I had the opposite at this location. I called my order in and they had it ready when I arrived ten minutes later. my order was correct and the broth is fairly flavorful for veggie.

I calls this type of food mama food. This is not where you take your mom, this is how your "mom" or "aunty" cooks, it's thick hearty and kicks any colds butt. steamy and delicious with a thicker hearty broth the usual accompaniments. the only gripe would be they only carry lean brisket, what up with that? Oh yeah.of course, the place is dingy like an old dennys, but hey whatever i think it adds charm, and unlike most places on hawthorne there's a parking lot. crispy rolls are tasty, as are the salad rolls, I'll have to come back and try the moon crepe at some point.

If ever you have a long night of drinks and need a afternoon pick me up, or need to kick a cold you come here. Amazing pho service is friendly but sometimes a little slow. They also have an awesome cashew chicken and bubble tea!!!! Highly recommend

Pho Dalat is a converted hamburger joint, and still sports the molded plastic dining booths to prove it. They've moved things around to suit the current use and as a result, if you slowly spin around in a circle, you'll see about six different floor tiles. There were quite a few people inside eating lunch, and we were greeted by a nice aroma. We sat at one of the plastic burger-booths and were brought hot tea. I ordered vermicelli noodles with spring roll and grilled shrimp. When the entree hit the table a few minutes later, it was a big, nice looking, bowl of noodles - but here is where it got a little weird. If they were trying for a texture of thermal gradients, then this dish was a masterpiece. The fried spring rolls were straight from the fryer and burnt my tongue. The grilled shrimp were about ambient, and the noodles went from ambient to refrigerator cold moving top to bottom, respectively. The thermal texture was all that was interesting about the food however. It wasn't bad, but certainly not remarkable. The spring rolls looked like they were frozen and store bought. The cilantro and bean sprouts were maybe a day passed being fresh, and the use of salt was a little heavy for my tastes. The service was pretty matter-of-face, but efficient and prompt.

My Hmong and Viet friends have recommended this place to me for years. I am a huge lover of Pho' and am always on the lookout for a great bowl. I got the C1XL and my life changed. Best bowl of Pho I have ever had, the meat was amazing the broth perfect and the noodles the EXACT firmness i like. We drove all the way from Salem for just this and will easily do so again.

This location is a little different from the one on 39th but it is still very good. I love the veggie pho here also nothing wrong with their rice dishes or noodle dishes...pretty much everything I have tried here I have liked.

  • R W.

Wow, I think I've probably been here close to a hundred times in the past seven years. In that time, it's probably changed hands seven times. Unfortunately, none of those times has included any renovation. Lots of guys with big necks here. Most people here come for the Pho, which is good. The other items on the menu are pretty safe too. I like the chicken salad. The salad rolls aren't great - just okay, skimpy on the protein. The service is very quick for lunch.

This is my favorite Pho Place. I have tried some others, and will probably never stray again. Here, they just do it right. For me at least. I always get my pho to go. It's so filling that I have leftovers, and to go, the noodles, veggies and meat don't get soaked and mushy. It's all separated for future use. Also, to go, they give you the perfect amount of sauce to make the broth taste just right. I have their number programmed in my phone, so whenever i have the pho craving, I call up and order a C-6 Pho, (Lean Brisket) Next time I'm there I should check out the menu and mix it up a bit, maybe the round steak, but they're always so fast that it's ready to go when I get there. Pho, by the way, is a great sick cure. When you feel a cold coming on, give it a try, I read that somewhere and now it's part of my cold routine, Pho and Zinc Lozenges and I rarely get past the runny nose. I noticed a lot of the bad reviews are from the location on 39th. I think it is a chain, but not like McDonalds, I think this location knows what they're doing, it's consistantly good. Compared to other places I've been, Pho Da Lat gives all the veggies you could want, and lots of them, in a large bag on the side (to go) I get 2-3 dinners out of this, and am always sad it's gone. Definitely give this a try, especially to go. You very possibly might have a new favorite Pho. Definitely hard to find them out toward Gresham, so especially us further out folk, can have the best ;)

oh no no no NO NOO NOOO NOOOOO!!! Don't do it... don't go spending your money on sub-par pho here... please don't do it. Not good. At all. 1.5 stars cuz I'm not mean

Not very sparkly. I think I already tried the best so it makes it really hard to go backwards? The owners were very nice and hospitable but it was like no frills compared to what I've had with Pho before. The place always had folks in there however throughout our visit and some were truly slurping up the noodles.

This is a good pho place when you are in a hurry. They are quick on service and food. This is not a place to bring your boss or a first date, its kind of run down. They have an average selection of pho, but also a good selection of other Vietnamese items. Good and Quick, Average Service, Good Selection and Cheap Price. Go here if you just want a quick lunch or bowl.

  • Michael S.

Pretty good considering the scrubby location. Solid 3.5.

    (3)
  • Hayden N.

Pretty decent Pho compare to most places I have been. Like most Vietnamese Pho restaurants, they are efficient and fast at bringing out your meals and similar to other Asian people--they were stingy about stamping the same card twice for two people.

  • Kat N.

I've been here quite a few times and it's always hit the spot. The broth is pretty good and the staff is always friendly. I've had the pho here, apps, hu tieu, wontons... everything was good. Nothing was ever bad, but it was never amazing either. This place won't blow your mind with its food, decor or location, but it will fill your belly for a decent price. Come between 2:30-5:30pm for their "happy hour" and all their appetizers and beverages are half-price!

This Pho not so good. Bean sprout, herb side not so fresh. Broth not so hot. Everything seem like it been sitting out for a few thirty minute before being serve. I have been to this location and location on 39th...both the same. after feeling a bit anxious about getting too far from toilet afterward both time, I will not be going back.

This is where I was introduced to Pho. I have little doubt that it has affected my view of the food ever since. First off, when you see this place from outside, you really don't want to stop. It's kind of scary looking. But if you look closer, you'll see that it is often packed with patrons. There's a reason. I have no complaints about this place. The ingredients are fresh and delicious. The noodles are in a nice little wad that comes apart with just some prodding and stirring. The thin sliced top round is usually still pink when the food arrives at the table. The broth is fantastic, not too salty or greasy. The condiments are plentiful, with limes, jalapenos, three kinds of chili sauce, fish sauce, soy sauce and plum sauce. The staff is friendly, but very busy and can seem a bit hurried. I visit a lot (it's right by my work) and it's just the ethic of their business. I don't see anyone standing around or wasting time or chit-chatting. The staff all knows me and my coworkers, which is nice. The best part is the value. A small bowl of pho costs $6.50, and a large only $7. None of us can finish a large. Anything you order comes with free tea, and usually a bowl of fresh hot tapioca pudding as a desert. For free. It's really a deal. They also have a punch card, where you get a free pho for every ten visits.

  • Tonneli G.

EXTRA LARGE PHO THE SIZE OF A SMALL CHILD. This is an incredible value. Pho Dalat also offer a punch card on the back of their business cards. The pho here is soooo good easily my favorite soup spot in the Portland metro area. The broth is a cut above! Don't stop just at the pho here, Vietnamese omelets are fantastic savory treats. Also the egg rolls are not to be missed, beautiful authentic rolls with cute little shrimp tails peeking out of the wrapper- just daring you to try one!

I squeaked my order in for some takeout pho vermicelli with egg rolls and an order of shrimp spring rolls just before closing time on a week night. The guy who helped me was super friendly and had my order together in no time. The food was good and very comparable to the same dishes at another vietnamese restaurant that I frequent. The decor is kind of dated here, but the food and service make up for it.

Mr. Kupcakes and I use to love this place. I'd actually like to go back, but my husband says no way. Last time we were here they messed up on our order and instead of complaining my husband thought he'd be adventurous and give the mystery meat a try. Needless to say, he got sick from it. Really sick. For days. We brought the leftovers home and gave some of the "meat" to our dog. She also got sick. I'm sad this happened at a place we loved so much. I don't think I'll ever be able to get the husband to go back. Let alone, even eat pho, again.

So I ordered some pho to go from here today. When I got home and opened my double knotted take out bag I had my own little build your own bowl of pho kit. 1 container of broth. 1 bundle of sprouts, basil, onions and cilantro. 1 lime 2 containers of magic sauce, etc... and then a container of raw meat. Hmmm... I didn't personally have a problem with it, but I do wonder if health inspectors allow restaurants to give out meat in its raw form??? The broth had cooled on my travels home. It wasn't hot enough to cook the meat, leaving me with the task of cooking my take out on the stove. It wasn't the best, but it was pretty tasty. The tendon chunks were a little too funky for me. This definitely isn't going to be my new fave pho spot by any means. The search continues...............................

Had the flank and eye round Pho. Was pretty good. Broth was a bit on the light side but the flank was really good. Noodles wernt mushy and were pretty perfect. The side of tea was nice and the waitress came around and gave us this warm tapioca coconut pudding thing, which was free and even if it wasn't your thing, was a nice touch. Staff very friendly, large bowl is $7.50 so cheap.

I'm not sure about the mixed reviews, or if this place is consistent or not, having only been there once, but having tried pho around many metropolitan areas, I found this to be surprisingly flavorful. The surrounding area and ambiance leave a lot to be desired, but compared to what other places that are located around the airport area, this was very tasty. I went with the large size pho with the rare steak and beef meat balls. If you're not trying to entertain someone and you're staying close to the airport, I'd say go for it!

How does this joint get such good ratings. Yes, it's edible, I'm not telling you to stop going here if you are already a fan for some reason, but there are a h@ll of a lot of other good Pho choices in this town that don't taste like watered down gringo soup. My vote, skip it and pick another.

My friend took me to this restaurant because it seemed to have more variety of dishes than other Vietnamese restaurants in the area. When I ordered in Vietnamese, the lady gave me a very strange look. I'm not sure if she was surprised or offended by my pronunciation, but it was very awkward. I had the Hu Tieu with rice noodles. It tasted a little different from what I was used to. They put something in it that made it taste a little like celery, and I don't really like celery. Other than that, it was a pretty good dish. My friends had the Pho, and they seemed to like it.

I love pho. it is the ultimate expression of nourishment. it is a soup. it is a meat dish. it is an adventure in noodlery. it has a DIY element that appeals to my inner sous chef, allowing me to tweak various flavor sliders at the restaurant or in my own home; increase sweetness! (hoisin sauce), increase spice! (chunky red pepper "cock" sauce), add citrus acidity! (lime wedge), etc. it is a perfect food, and difficult to get wrong. I have sampled pho in cafes across our great nation, from the sagging scrotum of South Florida to the yeasty armpit of Los Angeles and all up and down the west coast, and I have never once been disappointed in my meal. ... until NOW. *dramatic sting* I spotted Pho Dalat off of Hawthorne while ferrying a friend to work just this past week. we both agreed that the inviting facade inspired a craving that could not be ignored. later this same day, I decided to take a crack at my very first NWerly Pho experience. HERE COME SOME BULLET POINTS. DUCK AND COVER. - Pho Dalat is a charming place. the staff is very friendly. they do that thing I love where they bring you an ice water when you ask to see the menu for take-out. that's old school. it's one generation away from traditional southern hospitality. the day I find a place that offers mint juleps or cold sweet tea while I'm perusing the take-out menu is the day I swear off anyplace else until the end of time. the music they pipe through the speakers behind the counter is another story. close your eyes (ears?) and imagine what they might play in the elevators at the cheesiest '70s lounge in existence along the Vegas strip. now imagine there's a smiling Vietnamese chef in the elevator with you making you soup. - I expected a 5 dollar meal. this wasn't a major snag at first, and it's still not a dealbreaker, but here's what happened: the announcement on the yelp page promises a small pho dish for $5. this deal is no longer valid. a small is $6.50, and there is a$0.50 charge for take-out. I've never been to a place that charged extra for take-out, and it was a bit of a letdown. still, good pho for $7 isn't a bad deal. - that brings me to my final point. for the first time ever, I was not happy with the taste of my pho meal. during preparation, I had high hopes. the raw meat looked perfectly red and thinly sliced. the broth I sipped off to make room for the other ingredients was unique and flavorful. but the end quality of the meat was shockingly mediocre. the tendon (which I have admittedly never had before) was flavorless, and the brisket was fatty and bland. even the flank, which should be a home run no matter where you go, was a wash. I wound up eating around the meat, and not fully enjoying even those portions that were meat-free, no matter how much heat I added to the broth. maybe I caught them on an off day. maybe I made a bad selection. maybe Leo was in Venus, and the tidal pull of the moon shifted the orientation of my taste buds. YMMV. but I can't recommend Pho Dalat for an epic pho experience.

Go! Go! Go! If you want great pho at an amazing price - Pho Dalat is the place. I've tried most the others in Portland, always with a sense of disappointment - Pho Dalat has spoiled me, especially with their Pho Ga. The chicken is tender and succulent, and they're one of the few I've been to that have all the right additional ingredients as well, brought fresh with your meal on a separate plate. The atmosphere is simple, it's all about the food.

Pho Dalat has quickly become our favorite place for good, cheap pho. Sure, the place itself is an old Taco Bell (or something similar) and it has bare bones tables and interior. But damn... they make some tasty broth with noodles and beef bits. Bean sprouts! Thai basil! Jalapenos! Should I go on? Cuz I will. Unlike other pho joints I've been to, they offer 3 sizes of pho bowls. Small, Large and Extra Large. Unless you're the Vietnamese version of Chris Farley, I don't recommend the XL. The broth... oh, the broth. Aromatic with subtle hints of anise, cinnamon, and other lovely things. The best pho broth I've had in Portland. Service is friendly, if minimal. They have a good selection of other non-pho dishes and drinks include tea, smoothies, and bubble tea (which I have to say was really not very good). Not somewhere to take your boss if you want a raise, but great neighborhood value and quality.

Okay, so the atmosphere sucks. However, I've found the food is some of the tastiest of any vietnamese place in Portland. I'll admit that some dishes are a bit on the greasy side, but overall quite tasty. Their pho is the most flavorful I've had in Portland. For full disclosure: I tend to stick to Pho Ga and Mien Ga. I've actually found the pho can sometimes taste different depending on the day of the week---must be different cooks, and they must not use the same recipe. Despite that, it is always good. The service is generally quite good too. If you're there when it isn't packed--mostly in the evenings--they'll generally sample some things on the menu for you--like a different soup or dessert. Yeah, it is pretty far out NE, but if you're in the area and looking for a cheap bowl of delicious pho noodles--definitely give this place a shot.

This was probably the worst noodle soup I've ever spent money on. After having a major pho jones all day I finally decided to try Pho Dalat out of location convenience plus other places were closed because it was a Sunday. I know traditional pho has beef broth so I am always grateful when a pho restaurant has a vegetarian option. My theory, however, is if you're going to serve something in your restaurant it better be something you can be proud of, not something you threw together to appease the hippies. My broth was atrocious (it actually reminded me of bad chai), the vegetables were either limp or browning and the whole thing lacked the freshness and spiciness I was after. Next time I'll drive the distance to satisfy a craving.

This not bad Pho, in fact it is pretty darn good. Yes I am Asian, and I have been to the others in the Portland area. The meat selection is not quite as great as Pho An Sandy, but the broth here is delicious. Overall, this was an outstanding ending to a cold rainy Portland evening.

    (4)
  • Jamie w.

Hit this place up for the Pho. The broth is it and there are plenty of things to go into it. The tendon is always a good choice. There may have been some comments on the service, but it is minimalist by design. That is just the manners of the place. They give you your privacy. They don't like to interrupt your conversation.

  • V M.

Read some reviews and decided to try it since it was across the street from my hotel. Surprisingly, the Pho was yummy! Service was ok....I don't think the waitresses understood me half of the time. Definitely a good place to go since it's almost always rainy in Portland. Food keeps you warm and full. The egg rolls weren't bad either!

  • Izzy N.

I think this place is pretty OKAY, but not the shittiest bowl of pho I've had... and trust me I've had some poor excuses for a bowl of pho-- especially in the midwest where terrible asian restaurants were abundant. Not mind blowing, and I probably wouldn't go out of the way for this place. For the moron that posted that this place is pho da rat. or was LIKELY meant to be named that.. um yeah. Da Lat is a city in vietnam ya idiot and I don't think asian immigrants speak that way... atleast people in my family sure don't. I just find comments like that highly offensive and a cheap shot at other people's accents... based on your experience with "oriental" peeps. On your next review you should go find a restaurant run by blacks and make fun of the way they speak and the place of their operation. I'm looking forward to that one:)

  • Mark B.

This was my second visit to PhoDaLat. I have the Pho Tai and hot tea. The second visit the broth was better than the first visit. Like many Viet Pho houses this one is simple and clean but dated. It looks to be a family owned and run establishment. It always has a small crowd. Many folks have given 5 star reviews which prompted me to go. However, I have had much better pho. The salad rolls, what some other Pho Houses call Spring rolls, have less flavor with out the mint, basil or cilantro which has been replaced with lettuce. I prefer the micro greens for flavor and nutrition. This establishment is close to my home and work so I will be visiting often.

The pho at Pho Dalat didn't really make me nom-nom-nom, but it was ok. I guess you could say it was pho, but not pho-nom-inal. Ba-dum-dum ... HEY-YO. Ya, that joke, like the decor at Pho Dalat, is way uncool. ... You are correct, sir! Pho Tai Nam (C5 - Large $7.75) was fairly average Pho Rice Noodles and Beef Broth with Top Round Steak and Flank. I prefer the steak in Pho Tai Nam to be rare (and served on the side) and the noodles to be less of a lump, but I've had worse Pho. (3 stars) An order of Cha Gio Egg Rolls ($4.50) was 4 crispy rolls with Pork, Shrimp, and Glass Noodles served with a Fish Sauce. The sauce wasn't unique which was perfect for the unremarkable egg rolls. Like the pho, they were ok, and just ok. (3 stars) I love the fact Portland is weird, but I'm still not a big fan of weird service at a restaurant. With 3-star cleanliness and grub plus free parking, the final difference maker for rating Pho Dalat was the service. Sadly, it was a strange mix of shyness, awkwardness, and rudeness. I'm not sure why it was so weird. Probably, it's not you, it's me. If you are east of the 205 and near the PDX airport, this is seemingly the Vietnamese Pho to get.

I love this place. Their pho is amazing. Really flavorful, and I love when pho restaurants have sizes. Small when you are totally starving, large for (lets be real, I usually get a large) for when you are and x-large when you want to share (or maybe you don't..) :) their staff is wonderful, very sweet, and attentive. But I usually go for the salad rolls, because I love me some salad rolls. Tofu salad rolls are hit and miss here in Portland, but these don't disappoint. They make then fresh for you order, and they keep it simple. No fancy things just tofu, lettuce, sprouts, and rice noodles. So great. The peanut sauce it comes with is amazing, tasty/savory/a tad sweet/crunchy. Yum. I probably stop here to frequently, but they are so good!

Ordered a small C1pho. The meatballs were tough and had an odd flavor. I couldn't eat them. The portion of tripe and tendon wasn't even close to the size of my pinky finger. Talk about sheisty! This is probably the worst pho place I've been to.

The have an extra large pho! This bowl is so large, you will probably be full for an entire day if you are able to finish it. Prices are very low for the amount of food you get. The food comes out quickly and parking is always available. This place is never really crowded, so it is a good place if you are looking for a more quiet dining experience.

We randomly found this place while searching for some Asian food. As a Vietnamese, I'm not exactly satisfy with bun bo hue bowl that I ordered. I prefer fatter noodles, not hu tieu noodles. Also, they are missing shredded cabbages, as well as blood cake and some other stuff for a perfect bowl of bun Bo hue. The soup was kind of plain as well, not a lot of meat, meat tastes like pho meat, basically a huge bowl of lots of liquid soup than actual food. I rated this place 3 stars, not because of their food but because of their service, the staff is very polite and that's always a good thing !

Came here with my husband and son... Got 3 bowls of different types of pho. All were delicious. Service was quick and friendly. The restaurant itself isn't anything to write home about, but the food is great and affordable. :)

I got the house special pho in a large size. It was big enough for me to not eat it all and I can eat. It was delicious. I would definitely come here again.

Some of the very best/authentic Phó you can find in Portland! Other dishes (rice, noodle, grilled meats, spring & salad rolls) are also exceptional. Staff is attentive and friendly... One of my all-time favorite Vietnamese restaurants in Portland!

I am no Pho fancier, however, I have had my fair share of "meh" and flavorless Pho to know where to go and where to hightail away from. This is a "to go" when I'm wanting some hot, quick pho for lunch. It's definitely no thrills, nothing fancy and used to be something else clearly based on the hard-as-bricks benches. However service is polite, free tea and lots of choices on the menu for pho and various other bits of tasty. I've gone with Top Round Steak, Flank & Tripe for the pho and have never been displeased. It's not the most tender cuts but pretty flavorful with the broth. The noodles are tender and chewy. If I want to, I'll spice it up with some rooster sauce. The veggies - sprouts, basil, lime, etc - are always fresh and crunchy. I'll be - and have been - back.

So after going back several times, I've realized two things: 1) If you go on a Mon, Tue, Wed your broth will be freaking *delicious*, but if you go on a Friday, Sat or Sun, then you'll most likely get the clear, watery & greasy broth. I suspect they make a big batch on Sunday and then serve it all week. 2) The service varies on who is there. If the older lady is there then you can pretty much expect that you will get great service, if it's just the older guy and a bunch of teens, you're kinda screwed and you'll be lucky to get a refill on your water. Oh and hold off on using the bathroom if you can, it's nas-tay in there!

Great Phone at a great price. They have a good customer base which confirms consistent quality.

I eat there about 3 times a month. Their pho is good and cheaper than most pho restaurants. They recently painted their mens bathroom but it is still a bit grody. They have a halfprice mid-afternoon appetizer menu which is good. Mostly blue collar customers.

Great pho with a large bowl but a low price. The beef broth is the best I've ever had.

Service was slow but not the end of the world. I was surprised at the quality of the meat being so poor. Don't expect much from this place. It's one of those restaurants that make you scared to think what the kitchen looks like.

Worst experience ever! Ordered pho with grilled chicken and a rice plate with chicken. When the soup came out had no chicken in it, and tasted very odd. My friend who ordered rice bowl got a metal/thick staple peice in his chicken!!!!! They didn't apologize and still charged him for his food!! Absolutely gross, unprofessional, and horrible customer service!

We grabbed a late lunch here before driving to the Mount Hood area. My parents had pho and I chose a vegetable and tofu stir fry. Our food came out quickly, which is always appreciated. Everyone enjoyed their pho. I enjoyed my stir-fry, but I wish it was a strict vegetarian dish. I'm over seafood. Tea was served with our meal. This place has been around for 10 years and the decor is pretty dated, but it's clean and doesn't smell. This restaurant is owned by a family and seems very homemade. Note, this place isn't vegan friendly, but for pho lovers, it's a must visit.

Food was fresh and hot. Those are two of the most important things. Great flavor, not over spiced. Loved the soups! The only downside is the location as it looks like an old fast food joint with wobbly tables and a greasy feel in the air. Other than that, I loved it!

The Pho was delicious although could've come with more lime than 1/8 of the lime. Service was good and people are friendly. At the end asked to split the check with my coworker and my balance was correct but they overcharged my coworker by 8 dollars....was a nice tip i guess. We were in a time crunch so were unable to dispute, so watch your check at the end!

I frequent the 39th and Salmon location and it's hands down the best pho around! The customer service is usually good ( one regular server is amazing but the others lack his speed or personality) but honestly, I don't expect to have my ass kissed for a $7 bowl of soup. All I want, and I successfully get every time, is flavorful, hearty, perfectly seasoned broth with perfectly cooked noodles, fresh herbs and a full bottle of hot sauce. Life is good

Price is a little high compare to other pho restaurant in PDX. Food was decent but I was grossed out by the filthy bathroom. It made me wonder: If they don't take care of the bathroom cleanliness, what about their kitchen? The male bathroom may not have been cleansed in weeks or perhaps months. I have photos but don't want to gross others out.

Let me just clarify something first. I give this place 4 stars not for the pho though, but for the whole menu of the restaurant in general. The name of the restaurant has Pho in it but I have been to places where pho is a little more special. The pho broth is tasty and clear but the different cuts of meat are not that excellent. They are not as flavorful and they lean more on the tough chewy side. Portion is moderate according to me. I can finish the whole large bowl. So maybe a very hungry big guy might need to order an x-large instead. They many other types of noodle soup. Some of my favorite are the house special egg noodle soup, crab meat noodle soup, and wonton noodle soup. They are very authentic. I also like their rice plates. I highly recommend the combination rice plates with meat loaf, shredded pork skin and some type of grilled meat. They also give you a bowl of soup and some preserved vegetables on the side. If you are lucky, they might give you a mung bean, tapioca coconut milk dessert. Service is very friendly and fast. However during lunch time, I do advise to call in ahead of time before you come in.

one of the better pho places in SE Portland that isn't 82nd. I do wish they would at least serve beer and wine. Also not sure if their vegetarian pho is really vegetarian, luckily this doesn't bother me because I eat meat.

In the crowded Portland pho market, Pho Dalat competes on three things: price, convenience and customer service. First, menu prices are slightly cheaper compared to other, nicer pho places. Still, you get what you pay for. The beef cuts is fattier and chewier. And the dingy diner setting is not the kind of place you'd take a date or out-of-town guests. I'd be willing to pay more for higher quality food and a more inspiring atmosphere, but I guess I'm not the target market. They do kill the young hipster demographic. Second, with the departure of Pho Van on Hawthorne, Pho Dalat stands alone as the only place in inner SE to score some solid pho. Plus, the convenient Caesar Chavez location, parking lot, and proximity to Hawthorne make it too easy to stop in for a quickie pho break. Third, the service is always prompt and friendly. They are not stingy with frequent water service. And the complementary hot tea to begin and fortune cookie to end make me always glad I stopped in. As a consequence, I end up here more often than the quality of the pho would alone justify. By default, Pho Dalat is hard to avoid if you're in inner SE.
