Decided to try this place after reading the good reviews and seeing they had meatloaf. It's a cute little restaurant. We had the curry soup and french onion soup. Both were ok. The french onion soup was a bit too strong for our liking. We enjoyed the gnocchi with sausage and tomato sauce and the meatloaf (wrapped in bacon with a slightly smokey taste). For $14, the portions were a bit small and could have included a green veggie or just been more like $10. The silverware was a bit cheap as were the plastic water cups. As some of the entrees approached $20, the decor and tableware could be upgraded.

One of the best brunch places I've been to. The eggs ben stood out! The onion soup was really, really good! From the caramelized onions to the perfect cheese! Very nice and welcoming ambiance.

We came to eat at Petisco, last Sunday around the brunch hour. An overworked server seated us and we looked at the menu. I selected the White Tuna sandwich and DH had the Clam Chowder and a Roast Beef sandwich. Both sandwiches came with a house salad. DH says that the Clam Chowder was the best he had ever had in his entire life - and that's saying something because he is pretty old. He also said that the Roast Beef sandwich was amazingly delicious. My White Tuna sandwich tasted so fresh - as if the fish had been caught a few hours ago. The seasonings were just right. All in all, a great lunch at a very reasonable price. The server, even though she's the only one, with a large crowd, she managed to give us good service and a smile! (Why can't everyone be like her?)

Petisco is a delicious little joint in Portland between NE 14th and 15th and Broadway. A nice cozy atmosphere with 10 tables; two tops and four tops. Happy Hour M-Sat from 3p-6p; omg sandwiches are only $6 and house-made sangria by the glass and pitcher are discounted. On Sunday from 4pm to close bottles wine is half price; with the exception of the house pour red and white. One a month they have a paella night!!! Service is very friendly. The food is freshly made, very good and unlike the name of the place, Petisco which means "savory tidbits" in Portuguese are anything from tidbits. They are nice sized portions. Worth the visit!

I really enjoyed myself but wish we'd been able to order the paella. I guess that gets made at certain times and you must be on the reservation. Alas, we each ordered something different and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. I ordered a blue cheese and walnut salad with a side of chicken salad. I know, weird for breakfast but it was pushing lunch time. The only snafu was being served a whole order instead of half, because it was huge and way more than I can eat. Had I kow thee was a choice (which I didn't notice on the menu) I also could have saved a few dollars. Since salad doesn't save well for leftovers, I just ate all the glorious toppings and said "Phooey" to the lettuce. I also ordered the sangria, which was on special and only $4 or $5. It was lovely, especially for that price! Midway through breakfast/brunch, our server had to leave and another server was assigned to our table. She didn't know we wanted separate checks (there was 9 of us) but she rolled with the punches and was completely accommodating. Petisco is small-ish (not quite as small as I was told when I called to make the reservation) so we had to limit our group to 10 people. That worked out just fine. I'd recommend a smaller group, of maybe 4, and going on a sunny day, so you could dine outside in their adorable courtyard area - gated and surrounded by plants so you get a private feel while still being able to people watch.

I was craving some gnocchi and there weren't really any Italian places in the area. This place worked out perfect.

The staff was friendly. The service was alright. The price was acceptable and the portions were solid. I ordered the seafood bisque and the special of the day, a lamb sandwich with tzatziki, goat cheese, onion and tomato. The bisque was mediocre...fairly fishy without a lot of good spice. The sandwich was also mediocre...the lamb was a bit bland and the goat cheese overpowered everything. Overall I thought this place was good but I probably won't go back

I have been searching for the perfect Italian sandwich. This place comes close. I tried the Angry Sicilian and The Prosciutto and Moz. Can I say that these sandwiches makes me want to be a better sandwich eater? Yes, it made me want to get a sandwich press but than I realized i will also need to learn how to make delicious bread get the awesome meats and in the end, it's just easier to come to Peptisco. The bread is crunchy and chewy. The meats are savory and the balsamic vinegar is a nice touch! The waitress was fast, attentive friendly and never flustered or far away. The place is small and cozy. Can't wait to try their HH sandwiches and sangrias.

I have mixed feelings about this place. Absolutely love the service and location. The food was pretty good, but I found all the plates to be overly salty. For kids the best option available is French Toast with lemon sauce and whipped cream, I wish I had omitted the lemon sauce as it was teeth tingling sour. Overall and excellent experience, will definitely return. I highly recommend baked eggs.

This a little gem! I've been visiting Portland for about two months and am so glad to have found this place. Small and cozy, great food and great service. There happy hour is wonderful (3-6 tue thru sat)

  • David S.

Food was just OK.... It's kinda lazy. "Salad" with you sandwich is just mixed greens with dressing (no choices offered). The sandwich although good was not sauced or offered with any. Not sure if they have an ice machine but my room temp water was not getting any. The service was good but like I said the food was a bit lazy. Probably won't go back with as many choices that we have around portland.

Overall it was pretty good, great service, but... First time for me so I ordered some small sampler plates. Soup of the day was chili. Pretty tasty and only $2.50 for a cup. Next came the Petisco salad, also pretty reasonably priced for the small plate. It was a good palate cleanser after the chili. The biggest disappointment for me though was the fruit and cheese plate. The brie was amazingly good. But the blue cheese crumbles and the other variety of cheese slivers (Parmesan maybe?) were so salty that I was craving more fruit to expunge the salt. Unfortunately there were only 6 micro slivers of an apple, some dried apricot slices, and a morsel of some kind of jelly/jam. So I'd recommend a higher fruit to cheese ratio. But my primary gripe with this platter was the baguette. A baguette to me is a crusty French or Italian loaf that has its own flavor and needs no olive oil or, God forbid, butter. But what arrived on the platter were thin slices of a soft, pretty tasteless bread loaf. You could easily get a baguette with better flavor and texture profile at Costco or even the neighborhood Safeway a couple blocks away.

The service could have been better but they made the best French onion soup ever! The roasted beet salad was tasty and the vegetable cannelloni was very good. I think we will definitely go back.

Had gaspacho, great taste, crunchy peppers. Great soup for the summer. I highly recommend this restaurant. Great service and environment.

  • Stuart B.

The good: Tasty sandwich, good chowder, stump town coffee, and a very nice server. Salads were well prepared - great food overall. The bad: The kitchen made the wrong sandwich and it was 50 minutes to get said sandwich. Also, the place seems to be unventilated, there was a barely visible fog of panini press smoke hanging in the air. A lot of sandwich shops have this issue and I can't stand it - leaves your clothes smelling like hot oil and my contacts were stinging after I left. They need to put the sandwich press under a hood. But, overall a nice sandwich shop except for the slow food and aforementioned oil smoke. I'd recommend checking it out despite.

Cute date night spot for girls that don't want to look like they overeat on the first date and for guys who want to eat bacon wrapped meatloaf! They have salads if that's what you're in the mood for. It goes great with a glaas of sangria!! I didn't really go here on a first date, but I did go here with a girlfirend. It's equally great of a place to go if you're having lunch or dinner with your best gal pal. The only thing is their dessert is a lagging. The cobbler we had, seemed like it was microwaved.. but you can always skip out on the dessert, no biggy! Bonus: they serve expressos, for those dates that you never want to end, so you order coffee and sip on it for days!!

  • Patti F.

I really like this place, so far I've only had the sandwiches - but all come either hot or cold, on ciabata or baguette, and with a small salad. Their entre salads look like a good portion as well. Sundays after 3 p.m. is half off bottles of wine!! Also they make wonderful sangria (red or white). There are dining tables inside as well as outside, with table service.

The Eggs Benedict with corned beef and seasoned potatoes are to die for. Not to mention the delicious grilled caprese sandwich and the beet, goat cheese, arugula, apple salad topped with carmelized nuts. The prices are very reasonable the service is friendly and accommodating. My only grievance if I had to have one would be that the special of the day is not served at lunch (and that is not written anywhere). The description was mouthwatering...ravioli filled with grilled pear and Gorgonzola tossed in a brown butter vinaigrette topped with hazelnuts, parmesan and herbs. Yummmm...looking forward to our next visit to try this!

Excellent, friendly service. Menu has a good balance of healthy and sinful dishes. Best corned beef hash ever!

We were a party of 3 who ordered salads and a carafe of white wine sangria to share during happy hour on a busy Thursday evening. Given the space on the menu devoted to salads, I think we were all expecting our salads to be a little more interesting than they were, but for the price they were OK. Same could be said for the sangria, good but not remarkable or even particularly interesting. I'd say for the price, you can't really go wrong with this place but I'm not sure I'd go back again given the amazing selection of other restaurants in the Lloyd center area.

First time at Petisco, tonight. We came at dinner-time, were seated immediately, and had a wonderful experience. Our server, Reese was always available, helpful, and knowledgeable. The chef, Marcus made beautiful plates, perfectly prepared and seasoned. The two of them ran that whole place like they were born to kick ass together! I would recommend Petisco to anyone, and will definitely be back. Thanks!

These fools know how to make dlish chow. The atmosphere is devastatingly cozy, the staff is friendly though there aren't many of them- so try not to be impatient. It's worth the wait, I promise! Fall in love with the paella. Don't miss dessert!

We heard good thing about this place and decided to try it. The food here is amazing. The French onion soup is the best I have ever had. The meatloaf tasted fresh and had amazing flavor. If your looking for a excellent meal come here

Solid 4 stars. Sometimes worth 5, but I can't give a 5 of its not always a 5. The food is usually great, but sometimes, like today, a part falls short. Today, that part is my salad. I got a big mouthful of not quite fresh greens in the middle of my lunch. My sandwich, on the other hand, delicious - really truly an amazing sandwich - though I had to remember to ask for light honey mustard or that's all you taste in the turkey and brie. Service is usually great as well. But today my waitress couldn't seem to find the time to ask if I wanted a drink until halfway through my sandwich. She dropped off the menu and then disappeared. Got my food order and then disappeared. Dropped off my sandwich and then disappeared. Half my food gone and I get a 'everything alright?' And then she disappeared. What I would have ordered at the beginning of my meal is one of their amazing sangrias. Their white sangria is always truly fantastic - and huge. Hit them up Tues through Saturday 3-6 for happy hour, $6 sandwiches and $5 sangria. You will thank yourself

I can't wait to go back! My boyfriend and I practically licked our plates clean! I'm exited to go for happy hour and try their white sangria! I had the ravioli and he had meatloaf, both fantastic! I work at a hotel down the street as a concierge and will be sending guests down as much as possible!

Meh. Nothing amazing. We had lunch with sandwiches. The bread was pretty hard and not worth the price. Our waiter was pretty awkward and he didn't seem to want us there. Maybe the dinner is good, but we won't be back for lunch. Sorry guys...

I love this place. Great sandwiches and brunch. The service is always good and they have great out door seating. The prices are reasonable and portions are generous.

I love Petisco. I love it so much I've been putting off this review because I'm afraid too many people will start going and make me have to start waiting for tables and service. I'll start with Happy Hour. All of their sandwiches are 5 bucks at Happy Hour and come with a small side salad. I have yet to eat one that's not totally awesome. Throw in a $3 Sangria the size of my head and it's a pretty Happy hour indeed. Next: Specials. They have a special ravioli daily and do a Paella night once a month (you need reservations as it fills up). They also have some of the best brunch specials in town. More on Brunch: I have NEVER had to wait to get seated and EVERYTHING I have had here was, in my opinion, better than anything I've ever waited an hour plus for at any other Brunch place in town. One of the best things about Petisco is that I only live a couple short blocks away, so I can easily grab a meal when I just don't feel like cooking.

Great little brunch place tucked away in the basement of a old victorian style building in SE portland. Very european feel to it, and they have the food to match. Had the french onion soup (which was decadently good) and the angry sicilian sandwich which was top notch as well. I heard they have excellent Sangria as well and I really wanted to try the Duck Confit Benedict, so will be back for sure :)

    (5)
  • Alison V.

This is the best place for Sangria. White or red, it was very sweet it really tasted like juice. For $3 you can't beat this in a large wine glass. One is probably good for many. Happy hour is on Saturday as well, which is perfect because I'm only a few blocks away. It can be hard to spot on the street as you walk down a few steps to get to, but definitely worth checking out. I need to go back for happy hour food as I just had drinks. The desserts looked delicious, and they change all the time.

We have been coming here for probably 6+ years, and it has moved to my #1 spot. After dining at the fanciest places in town (le pigeon, Andina, and Castagna are favorites), and enjoying decadence at its finest, we always resort to the Petisco for an everyday, reliable, low key, affordable, but top notch - talking food = 5+. place to eat. Recommend the beef carpaccio, duck, french onion soup, corned beef hash, and of course, their daily fresh ravioli. All dishes I've had never have disappointed.

Petisco is one place along Broadway that I haven't had a chance to frequent yet. After this lunch I will again...for sure! It is small place that can be easily missed if not looking for it. So just look for the Petisco sign. After looking at the reviews I decided before going that I would probably have the Angry Sicillian, which I did. With that I also upgraded in price to get the French Onion soup which I haven't had in a restaurant in years. The soup was the best French Onion soup I have had yet. The beef broth was rich in flavor, the bread top and cheese were easy to spoon thru without spilling it all over. The sandwich had great flavor with the red peppers making an appearance thru the prosciutto, salami, sopressata, hot cappicolla, grana padana cheese and tomato. You ask why no 5 stars then? Reason was service was passable once I got it, but it too way too long to order and was pretty much left alone during the meal. But not in a good way.

  • Paul S.

Really yummy affordable sammiches. Had the Angry Sicilian with a dish of olives. Very good. Buddy had the Roast Beef. Both of us gave the place an A. Oh, bonus for introducing me the the seasonal treat from Elysian Brewery the Superfuzz. Holy youknowwhat. Grapefruit infused beer = yummmmmmm.

Joe K, A local Response to a sad attempt to a written review. Clearly this customer has no idea how alot of places work when it comes to food service. Room temp water is a common way restaurants get their customers to buy a drink of some kind. However if you had asked for a glass of Ice, you would have gotten one. I'm a local and someone who goes to Petisco often. I know the Owner and the staff. I've never been disappointed with my food here, and if I was I would mention it in a kinder manner then the silly man below. For a Mom and Pop like place, For the rich smells and Local breads and fresh foods. The fact I can watch them cook, prep and serve my food... Tells me alot about the food itself. For any reading comments on this place, I enjoy this place because its real, taste wonderful, and its not too often you can meet the Owner and watch him cook too. Its personal and comfortable.

One of the cutest little hole in the wall sandwich shops I've ever eaten at. I found this place randomly on yelp by looking for "sandwiches" however based on their menu they have more than just sandwiches (though my sister and I stuck to the sandwich menu). I got the proscuitto sandwich and it was absolutely to die for; the meat was salty and the mozzarella was gooey and delicious. All sandwiches came with salad which made it feel healthy. The service wasn't super fast, but they also only had one cook and one waitress for about 25 seats. The bathroom was decently clean as well, not what I expected for a 1 seater unisex commode! Order the peanut butter pie, it wasn't what we expected (more like a peanut butter cheesecake) but it was absolutely fab!

My #1 place for Sangria. There seems to be two common varieties of this sweet nectar: deep wine-like and fruity punch-like. Petisco offers the latter, whether you opt for the red or yellow. The food is much better than average; a few dishes stellar, a few sub. I didn't connect with the heralded Bacon-wrapped Meatloaf, but others seem to like it. The beef in a French wine sauce and the salmon were both excellent. The bread that accompanied the former was nice and crisp, good for sopping, but rather flavorless on its own. I didn't love the special Sunday night Paella, but again, others did. The breakfast sandwich for $5.50 is tasty and a good deal. Ambiance, service (especially by the Julianne Moore look-a-like) and happy hour prices are A1. Great spot, even more so when outside seating is available on a sunny day.

This place is great. It was very cute and cosy and the food was fabulous! I had the chicken-chicken salad and my bf had the special... The greens in the salad were so fresh and delicious! The french onion soup rocks! I'll be back :)

Fine little eatery on NE Broadway. Can be (kitchen) smokey at times. Excellent sandwiches on house bread. Angry Sicilian with just enough salty bite to top pretzels. Comes with fine tossed salad. Highest praises for an exceptional and memorable french onion soup. I will be back.

Nice place food was not bad just. Felt like a basic deli or sandwich shop. Service was good.

  • Katy L.

Great service, our waitress was very attentive without being a pest. But, I wasn't crazy about the food. I ordered the salmon with collard greens with sweet potato hash with pancetta. I didn't care for the sweetness and that might have been because it was basted in vanilla almond butter. I guess I'm a purest and the simpler the better. I also shared the Caprese Salad with my dining partner. I'm guessing this would be a better choice in the summer when tomatoes are in season. The food just was ok, and kinda blah. Nothing too exciting.

This place is reliably good. Yummy bread and meat! I've enjoyed all of the sandwiches I had (besides the roast beef-- too much horse radish!) Whenever we can't decide what to eat near our place, we go here. Also-- happy hour with $5 sandwiches?! Amazing.

Super friendly tucked away gem! I love their sandwiches that please everybody in my crowd from the vegan to the super carnivore we love them all. Great sangria and bread that I can't stop eating. The only reason I took away a star is because this place is replete with one of my biggest peeves , wobbly tables. Every one I've sat at in three visits wobbled, fix that and I'll be super happy.

    (4)
  • Kalie P.

Such a cute atmosphere and great menu selection- I ordered the pork gnocchi which was boiled to perfection and the sauce was amazing. The only reason I'm giving four stars instead of five is because the place was a little small, and it'd be hard to have a big group here. Otherwise I thought it was amazing.

    (4)
  • Robert B.

I have been here three or four times for happy hour, and each time I have been impressed. Part of the reason I'm giving this five stars is price: very inexpensive, tasty house wines and great appetizers. In the summer it's especially nice to sit outside on their little patio . . . . I think Petisco is one of those little out-of-the-way gems that's easy to miss!

    (5)
  • Jessica G.

Great hidden gem in NE! They have delicious sandwiches, salads and entrees. We've been here a bunch of times with great service and totally reasonable prices, so I will keep going back! My favorites have been their pasta special (delicious every time), roasted portobello sandwich (which you can also do as a salad), and their cheese plates. The only downside is that they don't update their website so we never know when they're doing events and I can never remember their happy hour specials...which I think works to their advantage because I've just ended up walking down there to see and end up staying!

    (5)
  • Conrad B.

The Happy Hour here swept us in, and no doubt will again soon in the near future. $5 for any sandwich with a small green salad alongside is a great deal...because the sandwiches are spectacular. There's a Happy Hour special on wine and sangria too...will have to take advantage of that next time. I hope I'm not making a mistake by sharing this secret with the world...I want it to be here next time I return to PDX! :) Angry Sicilian (cold, on baguette): Well, it didn't feel that angry to me, but it was jam packed with flavor. Not too salty, but no skimping on the richness (prosciutto, classic italian meats, evoo, dang). The side green salad was a much welcomed accompaniment for such a meaty sandwich. Rare Roast Beef (toasted, on ciabatta): This bad boy was the angrier one - the horseradish cream brought the beef to life and was gently accented by the manchego cheese, and appropriately sweetened by the classic addition of roasted red peppers). We also opted for a couple of items not on Happy Hour discount: - French Onion Soup (cup ~$3): Delightful, delightful, delightful. There's a wonderful sweetness emanating from these onions, which pairs wonderfully with the crispy melted cheese atop the cup. Best I've had. - Chocolate ganache ($5): Well, my friend opted for this one, and he was too busy devouring it to have much to say about it (read: two thumbs up!) Seriously, the bill was under $20. I love this place. Not to mention they have a Paella night, and daily housemade ravioli. I hope this Happy Hour deal never goes away...thinking about a Scrabble session during an afternoon with a healthy helping of soup and sandwiches.

Tried this place for brunch - not so many breakfast food options. But, whatever we ordered turned out to be great. Liked the atmosphere - small and cozy. However, the waitress didn't seem genuinely nice. As someone else had mentioned, I don't remember her asking how our food was. Would like to come back to try a few other items they had to offer. Hopefully with a different waitress on-clock...

$5 sandwich and $3 sangria during HH Tuesday-Saturdays 3-6pm?! YES, PLEASE! What a great little meal. I had the roast beef served hot and it was perfect! The horseradish sauce they used was delicious! I would definitely come back, even during non-HH times. The tomato soup was the perfect appetizer for the lovely meal. The sangria felt a little light, but for $3, who can complain? They pack quite a bit of fruit in it as well which was lovely. Check out this little place! I'm sure you'll enjoy it! =]

Intimate little eating place (kitchen) in Portland. Friendly attentive service. Everything is handmade and very European. Their hot sandwiches are outstanding like other said. I ordered OxTail stew, expecting tradition Oxtail soup - like stew. But no. It's a hearty aromatic dish of meaty stew. I wish we have place like this in Seattle! Will be back to try their Paella feast.

Wow. What a lovely surprise to find this gem hiding away on Broadway of all places. My girlfriend and I were looking for a place to grab a bite to eat pre beer fest and happened to walk by and glance at their menu; we were sold. Great prices and an interesting mix of salad, sandwiches and entrees. We had sandwiches (roast beef and prosciutto) which came with salads instead of fries; it was a nice change from the usual. Side salad was lightly dressed and fresh, sandwiches were hot and delicious. I'd recommend this spot to anyone.

We sat down at Petisco opposite a woman who was sitting alone enjoying a piece of pie for what must have been twenty or thirty minutes, and I thought, what a lonely lady! Then the food arrived, and it's the kind of food you cut into ever smaller bites to savor, rolling each mouthful around to get all the flavor and a lesson in how mindfulness and devotion can elevate a simple meal into art. Appreciate it, folks.

Enter the cozy, warm atmosphere and get met simultaneously by a greeting just as warm and the oven fresh smells that make you want to settle in and enjoy. We ordered the cheese plate, with its assortment of cheeses and meats, olives and breads. With that we enjoyed a glass of Tempranillo and a glass of rosé while we waited for our sandwiches; an "Angry Sicilian" and a Portobello mushroom and pepper. Both delicious. All in all excellent, and we will return soon.

Lovely outdoor dining area on a sunny weekend. Great brunch menu and sandwiches. The sangria looked fantastic, but our order was "to go" so no booze involved. Staff was pleasant and friendly, and seemed super efficient delivering gorgeous-looking sandwiches to happy diners. The Tuna Melt was quite wonderful. Keep up the great work. Yum!

Petisco is awesome. The food is delicious, the service is friendly and fast. I had the salmon and it was just delightful. Save room for the flourless chocolate cake!

What a surprise! The girlfriend and I made a trip to portland and while we were in this area, decided to check this place out. We each had a different sandwich; both were very well priced, and absolutely delicious. The server was friendly, and after enjoying the meal as much as I did, I couldnt resist trying the pumpkin cheesecake. Out of this world. :) Check it out; you wont be disappointed!

Recommendation: Give it a try Petsico turned out to be the perfect stop for a late lunch! Good iced tea to start! We indulged in: Two hickory smoked ham sandwiches. One hot. One cold. Both equally delicious and served on fresh bread. Fresh Mozzarella panini. Good and reliable. The soup was French onion and hit the spot. Petsico is located in a basement level and is a quaint, private, cozy and very comforting atmosphere.

My husband and I found our way here for dinner and really enjoyed ourselves. He had a turkey sandwich (hot on ciabatta) and I had a chicken salad sandwich (cold on baguette) and they were very good. We also shared a slice of Nutella pie (not on the regular menu) - so delicious. The server was very friendly and helpful.

This is a great place. I was let down by the Reason I went there. Angry Sicilian - Prosciutto, salami, sopressata, hot cappicolla, Grana Padana cheese, tomato, roasted red peppers, balsamic vinegar & extra virgin olive oil. There was a only one slice of each style of meat on the Sandwich. I'm sorry But it was more of a SAD and WEAK Sicilian. The only thing Angry was me due to the small meat portions....What a bum deal.. But.... I just realized I could take it home and throw some more meat on it, Pepperoni, ham, Provolone. So I Stopped eating it, had it Boxed up and ordered another Sandwich. Rare roast beef - roasted red peppers, Spanish Manchego Cheese and horseradish cream. This is possibly one of my top 5 roast beef Sandwich experiences ever. Next time I order it I will ask for extra roast beef, but Im not going to complain about the portion that i was served. Great Staff & Friendly service. Looking forward to my next visit.

Been wanting to try this place for a while so the wife & I finally ate lunch here last week. I had a cup of the tomato soup and the bacon wrapped meatloaf, the wife had a cup of the french onion soup and the clam risotto plate. My tomato soup was really good and creamy, my bacon wrapped meatloaf was ok. The gravy used is on the sweet side which isnt my thing and the meatloaf itself was very bland even w/ the bacon. My wife's french onion soup was also sweet tasting which just seemed a little odd for french onion, her clam rissotto plate was good (lots of clams) but a $16 clam lunch plate should be better than good. I was really excited to finally try this place, but I think that their cooking style was just out of balance w/ my taste buds. I would recommend people try it for themselves...we both liked the decor/location of the restaurant and wait staff was very nice.

Oh my little sanwicheria gem....come out come out, don't be shy.... Such a quiant little deli/cafe/wine spot you are! As others have said, it has a feel of a European eatery. The food is priced extremely reasonably. I tried a half of the angry sicilian, and i LOVED the dainty meats included and the rustic bread was RE-dic. The cup of french onion soup was one of the best i've had, great crusty cheese armor protecting the spongy squares of sourdough beneath. And then they had to do it...yes....yes my yelp friends.....they served me the BEST meatloaf i've ever had. THE BEST. Not your typical ground beef, this one has i think 3 kinds of ground sausages in it, a drizzle of fantastic red wine reduction sauce, and a crown made of bacon. All HAIL THE MEATLOAF KING!

Love coming in for an Italian style sandwich. All the sandwiches have great ingredients and the side salad is light and tasty. Have eaten dinner here a few times as well....the bacon wrapped meatloaf is one of my favorites. Oh....and I almost forgot my favorite thing here....the sangria. Happy hour sangria is only 3.00 a glass. I prefer the red but the white is good as well. The portion size is more than generous. My type of place.

Always great food! Always friendly service! I have no complaints about Petisco AT ALL. It's a cute little "garden level" restaurant on Broadway with both outside seating and inside seating (if you're not much for people watching). The portion sizes are perfect and they rotate menu items regularly, so there's usually something new. Definitely a neighborhood favorite.

We went here for Sunday brunch because Milo's was a 40 minute wait. When I looked up the reviews my expectations were instantly raised. The coffee (Stumptown) was fresh and hot and the server kept the refills prompt. I ordered the biscuits with chanterelle mushroom gravy and my wife had the eggs benedict (standard ham version). I also ordered a side of bacon for good measure. I'm not sure if portions of our food were prepared ahead of time and not kept warm, or if the server just left our dishes at the window too long, but everything was cold. My biscuits, the gravy, the potatoes my wife's ham, all of it was cold. I also thought the biscuits were a little tough. We at it and didn't send it back because we were hungry and had to be somewhere, but I would have expected more attention for the price and staff/diner ratio. Maybe they were preoccupied with the paella dinner planned at the restaurant for that evening. I thought it was telling that the server never asked how everything was, or else I would have told him my thoughts about the temperature our breakfast. The flavor of the food was good, and I would give them another chance, but my wife thought the error was inexcusable. I guess we'll have to get to Milo's earlier next time.

Beautiful little spot! I was tired of eating at the sam spot for lunch, so I decided to try something new! And what a TREAT! The sangria was delicious, the food was yummy and the clam chowder what the best I have had in a very long time. The waitress was wonderfully attentive and kind! I would suggest this place to anyone!!

I found Petisco hidden away when looking for lunch yesterday. It really is a hidden gem. It's in the lower/half-basement level of a bldg/house, with the top portion occupied by a Thai restaurant. Very unassuming, but also very comfortable, meaning casual, and inviting interior. Plus the server was easy-going and personable. I picked the place by chance, just based on what the menu out front said. I read through some other reviews right after I sat down, and it seemed that I just had to try the meatloaf. So I did. Wow, it was good! The meatloaf is a mixture of ground beef and pork sausage. That really pumped up the flavor. Much better than the typical hamburger & bread crumbs. Plus, they wrapped a slice of bacon around the generous, thick slab of meatloaf. Even more flavor. The loaf was topped with a demi glace, that was more like a fruit or red wine reduction. That was a good thing. It added a nice bit of a sweet element, that also went well with the tasty, firm mashed potatoes that accompanied the loaf. Yes, this was a simple, quick lunch visit. But it was executed perfectly for me, and left me raving as I finished up. Here's hoping your visit there is the same.

Went here for brunch on Sunday morning around 9:30 AM. Pretty empty but I have no problem with that! We were seated immediately by our server (who was super nice). They had a few specials (quiche, frittata, french toast). We ordered the special frittata (parmesan, pepper jack cheese, red potatoes, brussels sprouts, scallions, crème fraîche) - super tasty! - and the mushroom omelet (crimini, goat cheese, herbs, caramelized onions). I had a coffee -- they serve Stumptown. I thought it was so cute in there, a semi-European vibe. But it was a little smoky in there and our clothes smelled like food afterward... I'll dismiss that minor thing for now. There isn't a lot of ventilation in there but I presume it isn't always smoky like that in there. During the warmer months, the french doors open up to the patio, pretty neat. The happy hour specials seemed pretty great: Tues-Sat 3-6 pm: $5 sandwiches, deals on Sangria, house wine and beer. I'll definitely come back to try their other food!

First time in Portland and last evening found Petisco via Yelp just a few blocks from our place. Loved the casual, intimate atmosphere, prompt and friendly service, and the food was simply exceptional. We would recommend the "Angry Sicilian" hot panini, the ravioli (best we have ever had), and the flourless chocolate ganache and fig-apple crisp a la mode for dessert. We could not have been more pleased with the food and the service.

We were there for early dinner on a Friday. We could of had outdoor seating but went inside. The three of us had the turkey sandwich, the mussels, and a halibut special and all shared bites. We agreed the sandwich was the best entree. The mussels were OK, and the halibut was good but the rest of the plate, the risotto, was too buttery/greasy. The real disappointment was the service - slow and uninspired. If we return it will be for lunch, but like the wait staff we are not in any hurry.

Sweet little nugget of a bistro, tucked under the big bottom of a house on Broadway. Quiet, unassuming and hard-working little place that has way more charm than the costs of things would suggest. In fact, I found myself wondering what the hell was wrong with these people, why is EVERYTHING SO CHEAP??! Turns out nothing is wrong, in fact, it's all right in Petisco-land. We both started with the chilled ginger soup since Portland was in the grip of a mighty heat wave, and that little cup of goodness cooled us right down, coupled with my tub of mango sangria and boy-o's delicious organic local brew. We feasted on warmed sammies served with a lightly dressed green sidekick and took a piece of flourless chocolate ganache cake to eat later, while lounging on a hotel bed, soaking in the air-conditioned air. Good gods that was amazing cake, dense and rich and altogether unhealthy but worth every calorie. With all the restaurants in Portland it's rare we return to a place we've already tried but Petsico demands, albeit politely, that we return and enjoy their hospitality.

I've never noticed this place before, but sometimes I'm just not very observant. We were actually looking to eat Sunday breakfast at another restaurant nearby, but the place was packed. We were walking back to our car and spotted Petisco. They has some nice little tables out front. The restaurant is located in the lower, basement level of an old house. There's a Thai place upstairs. The dining room looked cozy, and the specials on the blackboard looked interesting, so we decided to give it a try. They had biscuits and gravy on the menu, so that's what I HAD to order. Got a side order of Applewood bacon, too. My wife ordered the baked eggs. The service was decent, although I only got one heat up of my coffee toward the end of the meal--seriously, I was just shoveling the last bite into my mouth when the waiter came by with the pot. Nevertheless, the food was pretty good. I really liked the sausage gravy and the biscuits were darn tasty, too. My lady thought there was a bit too much cheese topping her eggs, but that was the only complaint. Nice little restaurant. It appears they have a decent happy hour from what I read on the board. I'll definitely be back.

Great place for lunch or brunch. The Angry Sicilian was good but it wasn't stellar. I could make it easily at home with ciabatta, cold cuts, and cheese. What was good were the brunch dishes. The special of the day was scrambled eggs, housemade chorizo, pesto, and cheddar on ciabatta. The eggs benedict looked good too. Price is really fair for the amount of food you get, too!

Ok, it's time for some audience participation. I'm going to say some things, and you, the audience, will repeat after me. This is a fun association game, so everyone play along! First, can everyone say "Sandwich happy hour"? Yes, that's it! What is sandwich happy hour? It's a time in the afternoon on many days of the week when all of the sandwiches on the menu are $5! Wow, right?! Second, can you say "giant $3 glasses of sangria"? Yeah, you've got it! Good! $3 huge (maybe 12oz or more) glasses of red and white sangria during this same happy hour. Not the best sangria I've ever had, but so easily drinkable (I uncharacteristically had the white, which was filled with chunks of tropical fruit) and at $3, a steal! Third, can you say "Ham with brie on a delicious ciabatta"? Wow, really, you're a great audience. Yes, that was a pretty darn delicious sandwich with tasty mesculin greens for $5. In fact, I wouldn't have been disappointed to pay the normal $7 or $8 for that nicely pressed yet not too greasy sando, but at $5, wow. What a steal Finally, can you say "cozy, cool, shady patio set down from the street level"? Yup! No joking! It's a cute little patio that drops you down a few feet from bustling Broadway, but it might as well be 100 yards. What a great little hidden spot. Ok folks, that's it for the audience participation. Now stop talking to your computer monitor (your co-workers think you're crazy enough already) and make some plans to go get you a great sando and a huge sangria for $8 STAT!

I visited Petisco for the first time today. What a hidden treasure! The atmosphere is intimate and inviting and the staff was very friendly and helpful! I tried the Petisco Platter and a cup of their French Onion soup. Both were phenomenal! I cannot wait to come back and sit outside on their adorable little patio during the summer!

I am reluctant to say how much I adore this place because I want to be able to go without it being over crowded. Petisco is a delightful little bistro with delicious food and attentive and kind staff. Their happy hour is fantastic- $5 sandwiches and $3 sangria. They do a red and white sangria and both are delicious. On Sundays they have half off bottles of wine. I have ordered several items here and never been disappointed. Their brunch- wow. The house made duck confit Benedict and the house made corned beef hash are both suburb. I love this place.

Sunday Paella was awesome. I've had Paella in my life many times before, and this one was as good as it gets. Not only that, but the other courses were also excellent. The service is friendly and prompt. The atmosphere was relaxed and comfortable. The owners are very approachable, and they allowed me to take pictures with my vintage Polaroid.

Petisco, you may be Irvington's best kept secret. Many places on NE Broadway peddle sandwiches with coffee to Irvington and it's residents. A lot of them offer beer or wine even. Do anyone of them offer sandwiches that could be 12 bucks for a shockingly low price of 7-8 bucks? Me thinks not! To make this place even more enticing, Petisco even has a *happy hour*. Yes you read this correctly. Petisco has a HAPPY HOUR. Sandwiches with manchego cheese, European meats, fresh baked bread, and fresh Sangria drop a few bucks in price. Petisco has an outdoor patio which is perfect for gulping down that fruity Sangria with your sandwich that is just the right amount of this and that made with love. They are starting up nights where they have a special menu so they can cook up Paella over an open fire on that patio for spring. This is what keeps me coming back. Dinner plates that start at 9 dollars with stuff that you can get at places downtown for half the cost. It's really worth it to visit any time of day to check out their menu because I assure you that you will come and eat yourself into a foodgasm. It's a bit crammed inside so it's not the best for groups. I also don't recommend this for children. Petisco is a great place for hungry couples to come and dine at candle lit seating with European style fare. You won't be disappointed. ---Update. I went on Mothers day for Brunch. Gotta say that brunch was hands down super duper yummy. I had the baked eggs dish with manchego cheese and herbs. A creative dish that I am happy they serve for so inexpensive. The prices here cant be beat, all meals of the day and night are great! Thank you yet again.

If you are tired of the factory made sandwiches with cheap ingredients that lack nutrition, at Jimmy Jons or Subway or Quiznos, try Petisco. This sandwich cafe has a cute cafe and patio, more like Europe than Portland. The sandwiches are amazing as well. I have tried several different sandwiches and every one is as delicous and unique as the next. Today I had thin sliced chicken breast, with prosciutto, sauteed green beans, and balsamic vinagrette on it. Delicous! Complete with a mixed green salad that was not smothered in dressing. Just lightly tossed, to perfection. I had to try the apple-marionberry crumble special, too. I try to spend less than $10 on lunch usually, so this place is more of treat. But it is priced right for the ingredients and preparation and service. Sandwiches were around $9 and the pie was another $5. Totally worth a try, and I'll be back soon enough.

Our server was really pleasant and prompt and it was dinner time. It's a very cute, quaint little place. The food was so delicious. We had soup and bacon wrapped meatloaf. The gravy in particularly tasty. It's a little different menu than I've seen at other places, which was a nice change of pace. I would defnitely recommend.

Great sandwiches and HH is a steal. For $5 you get a sandwich and a vinaigrette dressed salad. The two versions of sangrias are nice. The location is warm and staff friendly. This place is a true gem in the Lloyd center area.

Well, folks. I finally found it. After looking for it (it wasn't in the cushions of my couch) for a long time, I finally found it. I got out there and I found it and I feel pretty damn good about it. What is it that I found you might be asking yourselves. Read on. I finally found a good prosciutto and mozzarella sandwich in Portland. It is at Petisco, but you probably already knew from the fact that you are currently reading a review for Petisco. I usually don't like too much other stuff on this sandwich, but Petisco dresses it up with tomatoes, basil, olive oil and vinegar. That's fine. I'm not against it. I'm happy with the prosciutto, mozzarella and the baguette roll (you can also choose a hot panini) and anything extra is just filler to me. Either way, this is a damn good sandwich. Now I'm going to get all east coast on your bums. The thing that bothers me about the batch of newer sandwich places in this town is the price to quantity issue. I'm still used to getting a very big sandwich (on the east coast) for what I pay for a tiny sandwich in this town. Sometimes the sandwiches back there are less money than what I pay for a tiny sandwich out here. I still don't get it, but it is something I'm adjusting to. I'm happy I finally came here and had this wonderful sandwich. Next time, I might be more inclined to come during happy hour when the same sandwich is only $5.

My friend and I hit Petisco for a weekend brunch and it was great. We brought the pup and sat outside. The staff was so welcoming and dog friendly! I always get a little edgy when the dog starts sniffing at everyone's table, but we were able o keep her under control. I had a great hash and delicious mimosa. Perfect spring spot!

I had to come back and update my review to 5 stars. This is in my top 3 favorite sandwich spots in Portland! I've had almost all of their sandwiches and I haven't been disappointed with any of them. Especially if you hit this spot for happy hour. $5 for the same size sammy and perfectly dressed salad! Totally bummed I don't work in the area anymore!

This is a great meal without breaking the bank. Perfect for a date night. The fig and prosciutto plate was light and tasty. We ended with a floorless chocolate torte that was rich and smooth. We enjoyed the atmosphere with the candle light and cozy feel of the small dining room. The server was friendly and helpful. We had a slow meal, enjoying the wine, appetizer, entree and dessert. It was relaxing and satisfying.

What a perfectly awesome little place. Don't walk right by it! It's just a few steps down from the sidewalk. Sit outside if it's a nice day. All the food is absolutely amazing but personally I stick to the sandwiches even for dinner. They never disappoint.

I have a weakness for a good caprese sandwich, and I thought I might have died and gone to heaven when I saw the beet salad with apple and candied walnut on the menu. I ordered them both and rounded it out with the fig and raspberry shortcake. All pretty good... all not particularly fabulous. The shortcake was a bit dry, the salad was overdressed, and the sandwich could have stood some ripe tomato and about five times as much basil (this last bit being the only truly major disappointment). And don't go thinking that I was expecting too much because tomato is out-of-season as I write this; I started my review when I actually ate here -- last August, when there's no excuse for a half-ripe travesty on any plate in town. That bit of unpleasantness aside, though, the ambiance is really what sells this place, along with the friendly staff. I definitely agree with those talking about a strong European vibe. It made me miss Paris. I won't say the service is great, since I sat there with a completely empty glass for maybe an hour, but the staff all seemed like lovely people.

I sometimes forget that Petisco exists and when I remember, I'm always happy that I did and I go there immediately. It's everything you'd want from a small cafe in Europe, only it's in Portland. Petisco is small, cute, has excellent food, has attentive servers and the daily specials really make it difficult to decide which delicious dish you should choose.

First visit lunch and sat outside on front terrace - casual step down from sidewalk. We had the chicken salad sandwich, white bean soup, and salmon raspberry salad. Everything tasted fresh, hand made and with the right balance of ingredients described on the menu. Bread was perfect. The white bean soup was a delightful surprise - 5 stars. Service was friendly and quick for a busy lunch visit.

This place is a gem and a taste of Europe. We have gone to Petisco many times, and take out a couple of times too...brunch, lunch, or dinner...its great all day and all the time. Amazes me to see long waits for other paces not to be named across the street while I can walk in and have a table here.

Lovely surprise! The chicken salad sandwich was delicious on the ciabatta, full of pine nuts, cranberries and delicious chunks of chicken. The salad that came with the sandwich was not inspiring, bag-o-mixed greens. Will return to have brunch.

I had very high hopes for this place due to the 4.5 stars on yelp. Yelpers, you led me astray! This doesn't normally happen but I thought the food was extremely underwhelming. I had duck confit with brussel sprouts. The sprouts were sautéed and were so light they almost seemed steamed. Definitely needed some crisp to them to pair with the duck. Extremely disappointing. The truffle risotto was mediocre at best. The risotto was crunchy and the goat cheese was just plopped on in lumps over the dish. I would have to say that the most tasty dish we had was my nieces plain ham sandwich. So disappointing. But I will say they have a great, intimate space and the staff was friendly. My recommendation is to order a sandwich and call it good.

The location is small and quaint in size but the food is big and flavorful in taste. I had the salmon salad that was fresh, healthy, and delicious. It's one of those dishes you feel happy about eating versus guilty. My mother had the chicken-chicken salad which she said tasted amazing and wanted to try it out in the sandwich form. Lastly, splurge on the Sangria!

Me and my buddy chose this restaurant because it was walking distance from the theater we were at. The prices seemed decent and we liked the menu. We arrived at 3:00. We were hoping to try the dinner menu, but it wasn't available as yet. Which is understandable. No biggie. Very hot day outside, but we found a nice table inside by the AC Ordered 1 Carpaccio and 2 Angry Italian Sammiches ( prosciutto, salami, sopressata, cappicolla, parmesan, red peppers, Balsamic, EVOO) The Carpaccio was pretty skimpy on the meat, and heavy on the salad. I'm afraid I wasn't impressed. However, the Angry Italians were very good. Came out nice and hot (had to even let them cool down before we could pick them up) and despite that, the bread wasn't make-your-teeth-bleed hard. Also, we noted that the EVOO/Balsamic dressing on the sammiches didn't make them gooey or soggy, and it wasn't so strong that it overpowered the taste of the meat, which was delicious. The waitress was helpful, nice and unobtrusive. I would go again - probably later so I could try the dinner menu. Other than the note about too much salad and not enough meat on the Carpaccio, we had a nice lunch.

Very quaint and cozy. We really liked the outdoor seating. It's not right on the street. I got the salmon and I have no complaints. Actually it was really good. The service was fantastic. The only reason I didn't give five stars is the menu is limited and nothing really stands out. It's worth going though. I would recommend.

My lunch at Petisco was like eating summer in a sandwich. I ate a prosciutto, fresh mozzarella, and tomato sandwich on ciabatta with fresh olive oil and basil. This is not a new flavor combination, but I've never seen it offered as a sandwich. It was very good. My son-in-law had a plate of salami, goat cheese, and fig, another great set of flavors that play nicely together. My daughter's cheese plate, by comparison, was fairly uninspired.

We got a chicken salad sandwich, pear & walnut salad, and an order of mac & cheese to go. The sandwich tasted like it was missing flavor, like a kick of seasoning or an additional condiment. The salad, and the mac & cheese were pretty good. Nice restaurant vibe & friendly staff.

Petisco is a cute, European-feeling bistro in the heart of Irvington. I've been to Petisco multiple times for lunch and now for dinner, and have a good sense of what it's like. The food, wow! It is so good! And, they are so generous with their portions! I love their tuna Nicoise (so fresh and flavorful)! They have a wide range of alcoholic and nonalcoholic drinks, (and a sangria I'd love to try -- alcoholic), as well as decadent-sounding desserts. Tonight, for dinner, my partner had their bacon-wrapped beef and pork meatloaf with incredible mashed potatoes; it was like a deconstructed Shepherd's pie! I had their salmon that was PERFECTLY cooked: so moist paired with sage with an incredible vanilla sweet potato; it sounds odd, but was incredible! Our server was not very attentive, which is why I gave Petisco 4 stars, and not 5. She wasn't often available, and when we gave her cash and a really nice tip, she just took the money, no thank you, and didn't say goodbye as we left. It was odd. Not the end of the world, but not as good as some of the times we've been there. That said, Petisco is a really charming restaurant with incredible food!

It was late Sunday morning and the place we were looking for wasn't open. So, when we stumbled onto Petisco we thought we'd hit it good. As soon as we walked in the door we were actually greeted by the cook, which I thought was a nice touch. There's outside seating which would have been nice but I think in the interest of staying cool, we opted for an inside table. It kind of felt like we were sitting in someones basement as there are no windows in this place. Nope, not a single one. Lighting was OK but not the greatest. I think the greatest disappointment was the service/server, who didn't know the food and could not tell us what quince was, which was something that came on a cheese plate my friend had ordered. We were also met with a bit of an attitude when we asked about the additional menu posted outside, which was not available. We kind of felt like idiots for asking, which is not a good thing. It also seemed he was the only server in the place. It was an OK brunch with salad, sandwiches and desserts. Frank was playing softly in the background so there is no annoying loud music. That's a bonus. OK, this is going to sound a little picky but if you're going to try to be a bit on the high end side, please don't serve my food with the absolute cheapest flatware and buffet plates you picked up on special at the local restaurant supply store. The dessert, peanut butter pie, is why I opted to give them 3 stars. It was amazing, served with chocolate chips on top, whipped cream and an Oreo crust. Whoa! I recommend it highly.

I love Petisco! I'm pretty sure I've tried everything on the menu (excluding brunch). My favorite sandwich is the chicken salad. It is delicious on ciabatta. I love that the sandwiches come with a small salad, perfectly dressed. Depending on the time of day I'll have a red sangria or a glass of red wine from Montepulciano. They also serve my favorite bread pudding in the neighborhood.

Our first night in "Foodie Town" Portland, we were lucky enough to find Petisco. My husband had the night's special - ravioli - and I had wonderful, creamy, delicious risotto. Everything is house made, fresh and wonderful! We shared a chocolate pot du creme for dessert - fantastic! Our server Rachel aka Boots made great recommendations and helped make our dining experience even better! And we got great recommendations from other diners on activities for the next day! A great introduction to Portland Then we saw part of the Nude Bike Ride - what an evening!

Love it- the sangria, the atmosphere the French onion soup is lovely as is the beet and goat cheese salad. This place is really lovely and worth searching out- Fantastic wine and not at all ( in my experience) pretentious.

The only reason I am deducting one star is because it took a lot longer to make my sandwich than I consider normal. But when it came out, it was one of the best I've had. Ever. I dined al fresco in the covered patio and it was perfect. Service was great. Food was amazing. They have local beers on tap. What more could you want?

I am so sad that I don't live within walking distance of Petisco anymore. It was my favorite brunch spot in the Lloyd/Sullivan's Gulch area. They have great specials and standard fare, and I have never been disappointed (though I do think that some of the more kitchen-sink type items, such as seasonal scrambles, tend to be their lesser items - opt for options that are simple but technique-heavy to really see where Petisco shines). Petisco also makes a great date night, perfect for sharing a bottle of wine (they make great recommendations) and having a nice entree and dessert in a romantic, small venue. In the summer, the sunken patio really feels like it's set away from the busy street, making outside dining a romantic and peaceful option in a location where you generally wouldn't think such a thing would be possible.

Best french onion soup, made with a little sweetness from balsamic. I had a special with brussels, beets sw potatoes, goat cheese etc wrapped in a thin pasta. Amazing. He had Angry Sicilian sandwich hot, very good. Place is small, a little difficult with a 2 yr old but a few tables outside so it worked perfectly. Staff very accommodating and nice. Will make it a point to go back

This little gem, tucked underneath several other businesses in what feels like a casual basement cafe in Europe, was one of my favorite spots that In tried while vacationing in Portland recently. We stopped in for lunch and had a lovely time. The two paninis we had were the best I've tried yet. We sampled the prosciutto and mozzarella, as well as the daily special, smoked pork with cheese. Served with mixed greens, it was a fantastic lunch. This is the kind of place where I would be a regular if I lived nearby. There wasn't much on the menu that I wouldn't love to try.

Stopped by quick on a Saturday night for a drink before meeting friends for dinner. Best. Sangria. Ever! Went back after dinner for another glass and dessert. I can't remember exactly what dessert was called but it was simply heavenly...Chocolate & flourless....imagine a pie slice that taste exactly like a truffle. I'll definitely be making a trip back as the menu looked amazing and the food my kinda food. Love the atmosphere, reminds me of being somewhere in Europe. Can't wait to go back!

Lovely dinner at Petisco tonight. Bruschetta appetizer was delicious, and the salad of arugula, pear and "Oregonzola" was beyond heavenly. Sooooo good. Not quite as good was the chorizo/seafood stew (my entree), because the italian sausage didn't hit the spot nearly as well as the seafood in it. But it still was filling and nice. This chef knows what he's doing. Excellent service, intimate and warm atmosphere, reasonable prices. It was quiet on a Saturday night in late October, which I liked. Tables are small; not for large groups. We'll definitely be returning. Next time will save room for desert, a good handful listed on the nightly menu, made in house. I expect they'll be like the rest of this place--Yum.

MUST GO HERE AGAIN. Disclaimer: I am not a fan of sandwiches. For some reason, I have been predisposed to not liking sandwiches, pizzas, and pasta. So... giving 4 stars to a sandwich joint is a huge plus. The following are the reasons for my "Yay! I'm a fan" status. -Warm, romantic atmosphere. Located underneath another restaurant, this place is the ideal place for bringing your date. -(Piggybacking on the previous point) The waitress accommodated my family well. (My brother, sister-in-law, 4 nephews and nieces, and myself.) Phew. -Great, great sandwiches. Like I've said before, I am not a fan of sandwiches. But this place has got me to believe in it again. I got the Angry Sicilian, and it was grilled and made to perfection. All the ingredients worked. My nephew got the turkey sandwich, and it tasted fresh. Very fresh. -I'll go here again to participate in their "Sandwich Happy Hour." Awesome prices, awesome food!

I have been here a couple times for a yummy breakfast but finally made it here for happy hour. $3 sangria and $5 sandwiches (the angry Sicilian was amazing!). Thanks Petisco for reliably good food & drink!

This place is just so darn charming and quaint. You really can't beat the atmosphere and the food is great to boot. The sandwiches were ridiculously good and well priced. I noticed that they have sangria on happy hour, so I'll definitely be coming back for that. There was a nice little outdoor seating area as well, that I'm sure is great in the summer. When the weather warms up, I can definitely see myself sitting outside with a glass of sangria, snacking on some cheese, salami and baguette.

I never would have noticed this little hole in the wall off Broadway if not for yelp. Lovely little cafe. Great sandwiches, good wine selection, great service. We went there for a bite to eat and free wifi and were pleasantly surprised. I would recommend!

The food is amazing. The people are amazing. Even a simple turkey sandwich (for only $6 too!) is mysteriously incredible. And even though there seems to only be two people working at a time, even the busiest nights have great, timely, friendly service. This place has been my gf and my go-to date place for the past year, for all of these reasons. IMPORTANT NOTE: My gf is vegetarian, I'm not. They have a lot of great meat-centric dishes and specials, but can easily mix up a custom plate without meat for vegetarians and it's just as good! Who does that?! This place rules.

When my parents visit, I, like Costanza, gotta prep. I need a couple of anecdotes, a few you-were-right-abouts -- it's a whole procedure. But above all, I need a set of restaurants to take them out to. They have to have high marks for food and service, provide good vegetarian options for my mom, have a comfortable and quiet space, and be low on the tattoos and piercings quotient. Which brings me to my point: my parents will love Petisco next time they visit. It is the perfect storm of stuff my parents like: 1. friendly and attentive service, 2. amazing sandwiches (including the best portobella mushroom sandwich I've ever had), 3. daily specials that will knock your socks off (last time I went I had a grilled flank steak sandwich with roasted peppers and Irish cheddar that I can't figure out how to describe without using profanity) 4. a gorgeous, convivial front patio, and 5. that giant, strong sangria, as described (prescribed?) by Don. Petisco will be on the parents' restaurant list for years to come, and I'll be returning often in between those parental visits, you know, just to check up on things.

Located on Broadway a couple blocks north of the Lloyd center, this little gem of a restaurant offers excellent food at great prices. During their happy hour Tues-Saturday 3-6PM, all sandwiches are $5 (regular prices are $6-8) and a bottle of Miller High Life costs a buck. I ordered their Angry Sicilian which was a tasty combination of prosciutto, salami, sopressata, hot cappicolla, Grana Padana cheese, tomato, roasted red peppers, balsamic vinegar and olive oil on a hot ciabbatta Panini. The sandwich was delicious and was paired with a small green salad. I also ordered a High Life and topped off the meal with their chocolate ganache (with whipped cream, chocolate sauce and lemon crème anglaise). The waitress suggested one of the dessert special of the day (and apple dish that came with ice cream). I asked her if the ganache came with ice cream and she answered that it didn't but it could. She included a small scoop of ice cream free of charge. The dessert was a amazing slab of dense, rich, chocolately goodness that probably contained more calories than I would want to know about. The waitress was cute, super friendly and really good at her job. This was my first visit to this restaurant and I brought a few friends here based on what I read on Yelp. We were all very pleased with my choice and thought Petisco was a fantastic bargain.

My wife and I were out for a walk in the Irvington District to see the old homes. We walked along Broadway and came across this restaurant. Yelp reviews helped so we gave it a try. this place is a keeper. We will be back next time we are in the area. I had the Angry Sicilian grilled sandwich. You can chose cold or hot on sandwiches. They serve beer and wine. My wife had the French Onion soup and enjoyed it. I had a salad with my sandwich which was good as far as salads go. It has a positive and friendly environment and the serving staff treated us well. they serve stumptown coffee which I finally tried for the first time. Affordable meals make this an all around plus.

We like to try out new places so I checked out somewhere to eat on yelp and this popped up. We both thoroughly enjoyed our meals. I had one of the specials, it was a delicious ravioli and he had the Angry Sicilian and a cup a broccoli cheddar soup. Everything was so fresh and flavorful. Prices were fair and service was quick and friendly. I will definitely be back to this little place to try their homemade sangria! Update- I had ordered the chocolate cake to go; exceptional!!

Absolutely adore this place. It is a neighborhood gem and my husband and I usually eat one or two meals here each week. The menu has a lot to offer and the servers are always really polite and friendly. Everything tastes very fresh and they are also very accommodating for food allergies.

Great place for a sandwich. I anxiously await an opportunity to join them for breakfast. I lived in Florida for a couple years and the Cuban sandwhich here is the best I've ever had. Fun ambience, very friendly staff and the food was great. I will definitely return.

Had lunch with a friend. It was my first visit; very glad I stopped in. I ordered a salad with prosciutto and warm black figs. Not sure how the good have prepared it any better. Just the right portion. The dressing was subtle; there was just the right amount. My friend had a chicken salad sandwich; they held the mayo. He had a smile on his face. The service was prompt and pleasant. I felt at home. I will definitely come again.

My experience at Petisco wasn't as I'd hoped, but because it might be my personal preference, I'll still rate it 3.5-stars. When I arrived for lunch I noticed there were no seats available (even for 1 person). I was okay with waiting, but no one greeted me until I came to the counter to stop someone to ask for assistance (they were nice about it, though). I ended up ordering take-out, and got the Salad Nicoise. I'm definitely used to a different kind of Nicoise, so I didn't enjoy it. My last Salad Nicoise was at Chez Machin, which uses a beautiful fresh tuna steak. Petisco's was (in my opinion) basic field greens with a scoop of tuna salad that wasn't great. I knew it before ordering, but was hoping the flavors would somehow work. Still, Petisco had a cool outdoor area which I'd like to try next time I'm there.

Came here for lunch last week and it was a pretty solid place. I got the angry Sicilian and my friend got turkey and brie. I like that they came with salads, it forced me to eat my veggies. Plus the salads were very lightly dressed and were just a great accompaniment. I definitely want to come back and try some of the fig and prosciutto and goat cheese offerings.

Everything was very good here except that damn speaker. But first.... it is a very unassuming place. It is like a little hole in the wall European family restaurant complete with rickety chairs. There is also an area outside. And the inside is Air Conditioned. Great for hot days like today. There were only 3 working. The cook, the waitress, and the busboy/ dishwasher. And they all three hustled. Some waiting but good service. We ordered the bacon wrapped meatloaf with a wine gravy over mashed potatoes with red beet. We also had the Nicoise salad. Both were really good. As for the speaker.... It looked like they had only one in the room and it looked like a desktop computer reject that had been blown years ago. They were playing some great music, I think, in an effort to add some more atmosphere. But what came out was tinny and distorted. I kept thinking... can't they hear that? Despite the speaker the food was great and we will come back!

There is nothing better than sipping Petisco's white sangria on their patio on a hot day. Pair that sangria with the hot turkey and brie sandwich and French onion soup and a chemical reaction will take place in your body that results in pure happiness. But then again, maybe that's just the wine talking. Either way the food is delicious.

Small, cute, nondescript restaurant with a limited but impeccable menu. Sandwiches, salads and a few special items are your dinner entree choices. That may sound disappointing, but I've eaten here several times and have loved every dish I've tried. Most notably, they make red and white sangria, which is close to heaven. The white wine sangria is cold, refreshing and filled with sweet fruit chunks. Definitely my favorite item!

I want to bathe in their hollandaise! So fresh and delicious. I had the eggs Benedict with ham and arugula. Spot on flavors, perfectly cooked egg, delicately cooked arugula and nice shaved ham. My husband had the daily special - Al Pastor Hash. Also phenomenal. Delicious layers of flavor. Unique blend of a hash and Benedict-style eggs. Ambience is quaint, intimate and inviting all at once. Feels somewhat like a little French cafe. Small and polite staff. Food came out prompt. Wish I lived here so I could try more things on the menu.

I joined Yelp just to rave about these guys. The whole place is like a cafe with a very intimate setting. The staff was literally running around during lunch time working like crazy but they still managed to slow down and put a smile and was gracious every time they came to the table. I have been coming here on a regular basis for a long time now and the portobello roasted sandwich is the best! And please don't leave this place without trying out their lemon pie. I'm almost starting to suspect that they are putting some addictive substance in that lemon pie because I can't stop eating them.

After a hard afternoon of helping my brother and his girlfriend move to their new place, we needed food. I hadn't been in the Irvington neighborhood in quite some time, so I forgot what was around. I was thinking sandwiches and nothing hot, just because there was enough heat on a Sunday in July that no more was really necessary. A quick Yelp search and I found Petisco, and lo and behold my brother had a review and they had been here a few times prior. Off we went. The sandwiches are the thing to go with. The menu is is eclectic European and the sandwiches heavy on Italian. I saw the Angry Sicilian and I didn't look any further. Prosciutto, salami, sopressata, cappicolla, parmesan, red peppers, Balsamic and EVOO. All on fresh bread. We had the option of hot or cold and yes, cold was the way to go. The AS was a beautiful mix of salty meats and wonderfully tangy Balsamic vinegar with the roasted red peppers adding a mild accent. It was a perfect size and the side salad that was mixed greens and tossed in a vinaigrette went well with it. Add a couple of beers, Legunitas Lil' Sumpin' and it was a meal worth the going up and down stairs for way too many times. They also had a strawberry apple crisp with homemade vanilla ice cream that we all shared for dessert. The plate was dressed with powdered sugar and caramel. Excellent. Our server was good and the shade was appreciated. Overall I'd go back just to try more of those sandwiches. I also believe there's a sandwich happy hour? That's AWESOME! I will be back there soon. Enjoy!

This is a nice place to enjoy an outdoor meal--the room inside was a little stuffy and not well ventilated. However, the food was pretty good with a reasonable portion considering their price. I must say that their french onion soup was nice and cheesy! Lastly, the servers there were extremely nice and welcoming, which contributed to a pleasant dining experience for me.

I've been here for dinner and brunch and have enjoyed both menus and experiences so much! Both visits were suggested by other people who also love this little spot! I'm surprised there isn't a line for weekend brunch, but I hope it stays that way! I love that it feels like you are stepping into a wine cellar for the indoor restaurant which is darker, more moody/intimate but can enjoy the patio seating in the front of the shop where there is plenty of light and great space. Excellent service every time and food was fantastic and appropriately priced. It's definitely worth the drive when you want good food alone, with a friend or several.

We decided to stop here for lunch based on our location and reviews. Seven of us are here and every single one of us enjoyed our orders. The mimosa was mixed well and the toasted sandwiches were fantastic. I highly recommend it. It might be better to sit outside as it gets smoky in here when it gets busy.

THIS IS A BRUNCH REVIEW I have to admit, I was scared when we walked in at 10:30 on a Saturday and there was only one table with customers. Sure, we had bypassed Mothers, Bijou, Simpatico and a host of other popular brunch places when I called and they said there was no wait, but I didn't expect a completely empty place. Fast forward a little bit, and it turns out the food is really good. I had the eggs benedict with arugula, my friends had the migas and some savory bread pudding special. Everything was well seasoned, properly portioned and nicely plated. I couldn't get enough of the spiced crispy potatoes. Side note, they also have Chipotle Cholula :-) . It was a hit! The only downside I see is that they don't have much in the way of "brunchy" drinks, only mimosas. Oh well, drink some sangria and be happy you didn't have to wait an hour to get a table!

What an awesome meal. Came here for brunch. Great eggs bennies. Fantastic corned beef hash. Excellent coffee and service. A grand slam. Out of the ball park kind of meal. I would have given it 10 stars but yelp won't allow me. Almost forgot. The French onion soup was also fantastic.

We came here for dinner on a Saturday evening. The place had a few customers but not too crowded. I like the decor/atmosphere of this small restaurant. Our waitress was nice and attentive. My gnocchi dish was delicious but the portion was kinda small (or maybe it was that I was starving!!) for the price. I also had the onion soup which I thought tasted a little too strong for my taste. Overall good dinner. I don't really like to have sandwiches for dinner so I will have to come back for lunch to try one of their sandwiches.

I really wanted to love this place. Their wine list is extremely limited. I ordered a glass of red wine which I drank while waiting for my ravioli. The glass was cheap and heavy. Water came warm in a plastic glass. When my ravioli arrived I was out of wine so ordered another glass; and I waited and waited while my pasta got cold. I finally sought out the server and asked for my wine; she seemed annoyed that I asked. The ravioli was heavy as lead and simply awful. I do not understand the excellent reviews of this place. The menu is an odd mix of dishes, i.e. meatloaf, risotto, salad, etc.

It's a cute little cafe feel with indoor/outdoor seating. We tried the cream of broccoli soup and the caprese sandwich. the soup was a bit salty but still tasty and the sandwich was delicious! $3 yummy large sangrias during happy hour 3-6pm and $5 sandwiches

I love the atmosphere and the food here! They took a basement like space and made it feel very cozy and inviting! There are not too many tables inside since its such a small space so its always a very intimate feel. The staff are very friendly and efficient! I also love art they have. My favorite dish is the crab rissoto but i have been here several times and all the food is awesome!

Petisco is thoroughly amazing. Most importantly, the people are so friendly and helpful - Mike and his crew are the BEST! Also, the place is adorably cute and the food is incredibly delicious. Don't miss the happy hour deals. Plus, they are now open Sunday night for even more dining pleasure! The patio is the perfect place on a warm day. can't beat $5 sandwiches and $4 wine! if i lived in the neighborhood i'd be a regular here, and judging by the clientele they have a lot of regulars. i may not take out of town visitors here to show off portland's food scene, but it's a solid spot to go for a relaxing, low key, and reliably tasty meal.

Agree that this is a hidden gem in the inner NE. We have been frequenting this restaurant for the past couple of years and the consistency and quality of the food and service is exceptional. Toady we had gravy and biscuits with two eggs your style which was fabulous. The breakfast, salad and sandwich choices are great and have had many of them and have never been disappointed. Recommend this for breakfast, brunch, lunch or dinner.

I was in the mood to have lunch at a new place as well as have a nice long walk to get there. The 4.5 star average and 1.1 mile distance from the office led me to try Petisco. The place is very small and intimate, having about 15 tables tucked away underneath a Thai restaurant. The specials of the day were a turkey/avocado/hard-boiled egg sandwich and seafood paella. The sandwich with salad and a mini cup of the paella was just right and priced nicely. The paella was incredible, full of nice seafood. And the sandwich was declicious and very interesting. Haven't had slices of hard-boiled egg on a sandwich, and it added a great touch. All of this along with quick and friendly service added up to a great lunch. I'll be back for sure.

Yum. I work in the Lloyd 700 building & we walk to lunch here very often. We can always count on good food. Also, this food comes at a very reasonable price for the area. The only complaint I have is that there is only one waitress most of the time (if not all of the time) & service can be a bit slow if they are very busy. So don't go if you are in a hurry.

The lone diamond in the rough in a sea of crap along NE Broadway between 21st and 13th Aves. Great food and good people running it! Sandwiches are always filling, filled with HQ ingredients and tasty. The other day I had a non-sandwich special (pulled pork w/ Brussels sprouts topped w/ cheese), and it was ridiculous. One great feature is the $2 cup of soup. I can never understand why more restaurants don't offer something small but affordable in case you want something a little more than the sandwich/salad. For example, Thai restaurants make salad rolls in advance, but they never have an option for just one salad roll at half the price of the regular order of two. Some days, I want one salad roll to go w/ the meal just like some days i want a small but affordable cup of soup to go w the sandwich at Petisco. Don't waste your time worrying about whether Petisco is as good as the other big-name sandwich shops in town (Bunk; Meat Cheese Bread). They're all good but all very different. Apples and oranges, and i like apples and oranges. But sometimes I'm in the mood for one over the other (or at least closer to one).

After debating my father-in-law as to the accuracy of reviews on yelp, I proposed we settle it by looking at what the top 5 restaurants in PDX were, according to yelp, with no filters or anything like that. I read off the top 5, I believe Petisco was 2nd at the time, and that Beast and DOC were I think 1st and 3rd respectively. Anyway, that really blew his mind because he was sure that value (ie. quantity for money) would trump simply delicious food at any price when viewed through the yelp lens. But Petisco simply defies this explanation. For while others have noted that indeed Petisco is in the $ price range, it truly serves meals you would be happy with in the $$$-$$$$ price range, and the portion sizes are perfectly modest. Thus the fact that the common wisdom of yelp put it in league with DOC and Beast, irrespective of value, was truly astonishing to him. Yes the dining experiences are very different, and yes, the service and menus are different, but truly, as with DOC and Beast, this is a 5 star menu with 5 star dishes. While I have tried many items, I heartily recommend the Angry Sicilian as far as sandwiches go, and on my last occasion, the beef bourguignon on butter noodles was simply the best example of that dish that I have ever tried. Just another reason to one day move to PDX.

Excellent waitress, friendly, smiling and welcoming. The tomato & mozzarella was excellent and the rare roast beef sandwich was very good! I had the sandwich toasted along with the side salad which was very fresh and good as well. Definitely recommended!

This place is quaint. And I love it. Simple salads and sandwiches. An unpretentious wine list. Delish white sangria. attentive service. I ate salad nicoise. Which had all the usual ingredients not seared tuna but lightly dressed as chopped. My friend ate one f the roasted paninis and as loved it. It's nothing fancy but its good and has a small patio that is nice when the weather is. Will definitely be back.

Amazing. Amazing. Amazing!! Always great food and service. Happy hour is Tue to Sat from 3-6, $5 sammies and $3 sangria - so good. The Angry Sicilian is the best! Only quality ingredients are used, and everything is in perfect portion sizes. Restaurant has an unique atmosphere and if the weather is nice, getting to enjoy your meal outside is a true delight.

i have trouble resisting a cup of soup to go with my sandwiches, especially when it's cold and windy out -- so the french onion soup was seductively calling my name. i made the right decision indeed... i think it was quite possibly the most delicious bowl of perfectly balanced french onion soup i've ever had! most french onion soups send your blood pressure skyrocketing and/or have bubblicious-worthy cheese that takes some serious mastication. petisco's french onion soup is perfectly flavored, with just the right amount of sweetness from the onions and topped with crostini and cheese. my panini was also very tasty, but somehow my fork kept creeping over to my husband's plate of crabcakes with eggs and fried red potatoes -- i can't wait to go back and try something else from their mouth-watering menu!

This place was awesome! Ordered the chicken salad on the baguette. My mom ordered an Angry and the husband ordered roast beef. His was by far the best, the horseradish dressing was perfect - spicy and sour and wonderful. The baguette is really really tiring after a while, though tasty.

Excellent food. Very cute atmosphere - perfect for a date. The food was incredible. We had the risotto & bacon wrapped meatloaf for dinner and it was to die for! The service was excellent and our server Reese was so nice! We will definitely be coming back here for another date.

Their white wine sangria is fantastic! I came here with my family based on yelp reviews. We started with the cheese platter, portabello carpacio and a salad to share. All three were delicious--but I particularly recommend the cheese platter. Then we had the angry sicilian and a mozzarella sandwich. The Angry Sicilian is to-die-for! it was soo good!! I would highly recommend stopping by this cute little restaurant.. keep in mind that the food is fresh and it's not particularly fast!

Italian meat and cheese lovers: do yourself a favor and stop by during Sandwich Happy Hour for the Angry Sicilian. You will NOT be disappointed. Prosciutto, salami, sopressata, hot cappicolla, Grana Padana cheese, tomato, roasted red peppers, balsamic vinegar & extra virgin olive oil. Y-U-M. I'm also a fan of their chicken salad (it comes with pine nuts and basil, a quirky addition that is deelish), although I wish it came on a different bread because the french roll is a little too thick/dry. Paella night is well worth the measly $30, and the owner works his magic right out in the courtyard for everyone to see while enjoying their drinks and apps. A great neighborhood restaurant that combines the atmosphere and quality food of a high-end restaurant without the high-end prices.

Yay! My new favorite place. The sandwich I had (turkey breast with brie, honey mustard and tomato) was absolutely amazing! And as if that wasn't enough, it was only $5 during their happy hour! Factor in the $1 Happy Hour Miller High Lifes and I was a happy, happy girl. The service was friendly and attentive, but casual at the same time. This place is LEGIT! I look forward to trying the many other delicious-looking items on the menu. Five stars for sure!

Petisco is a lovely little sandwich shop, but I might venture to say that it is more of a bistro than a sandwich shop. I didn't have a sandwich, although they did look great and this may be their claim to fame, but the atmosphere and the decor screamed bistro; cozy, warm with sidewalk dining, serving great Italian dishes as well as a nice little wine list. Bistro. I did have the wild mushroom ravioli with an olive oil and balsamic vinegar. It was wonderful! Often when you get ravioli the sauce is the star. Not so with this dish. The olive oil and balsamic vinegar where lightly drizzled on and were but a compliment to the raviolis. The service was great, the ambiance was delightful and the price was incredibly reasonable. I will be going back.

Originally my wife and I were going to stop by to try out Petisco's $3 sangria during their happy hour. It just so happened to be their monthly paella night (Sunday). The chef was out front on the stone patio cooking up a family style paella (This image will give you an idea: laudisio.com/images/phot… ) For $30 a head, we got hors d'oeuvres, lobster bisque, green house salad, paella (with second serving if requested) and an apple/berry cobbler for dessert. Everything tasted homemade, and was very, very good. Atmosphere was perfect for a date, out on the patio. However, I would say the crowd tended to be older: 50+. No matter, the food was delicious and service perfect. Next weekend is Italian night. Make sure to stop by this friendly place and ask about their themed dinner nights like these.

As someone who spends 40+ hours a week in this area, I can confidently say that this is hands down the best place to eat lunch anywhere near the Lloyd Center. Every sandwich I've had here has been amazing - never too heavy but always flavorful, and the salads are also perfectly sized and delicious. Don't tell my boss, but I've also had a few glasses of lunchtime sangria - their white wine sangria is full of fresh fruit and so so good! This is not a super quick place, but it's got a great vibe and a cute patio - perfect for lounging, drinking sangria, and waiting for your food. I can't wait to come here for weekend brunch or one of the special paella dinners they have on occasion.

I've been here three times--twice for lunch and once for dinner. The lunches were excellent--Petisco has a way with sandwiches. And I loved my Nicoise salad the second time. The patio is lovely--a little sheltered from the street which somehow adds to the mediterrean atmosphere. Dinner was less successful--I had the ravioli special, which was a little undercooked, and even though it looked interesting, it wasn't...not really. /There wasn't anything wrong with it, mind you--just not up to the standards of the two lunch visits, which were GREAT. I have to give points, though, for the service. It's attentive and speedy. For our dinner visit, one staff person was taking care of the whole restaurant, and she did a great job--even made it look easy. I'll go back for lunch any day. But I will probably go to nearby Milo's or Pastini for dinner.

I stopped here with a big group for brunch. There was a bit of a wait, but considering that about a dozen of us had shown up unannounced to a small, fairly crowded restaurant, they really got us in rather quickly. Our waitress was enthusiastic and lots of fun. In short, the service was awesome. I ordered the pain perdu (New Orleans-style french toast) and it was absolutely divine. Definitely some of the best french toast I've ever had. That said, it was just about the only thing on the menu that really appealed to me (and, granted, I'm picky). The only weird thing was that even though I was with a bunch of young twenty-somethings that easily could have been under 21, no one got carded when they ordered mimosas or prosecco. Not exactly a minus, but a little bit strange. If nothing else, it was authentically European.

Fantastic little place. Had wine there that I dream about. The sandwich was amazing as well. We sat on the patio which was sunken below the sidewalk that made it perfect for people watching. I had one of those lunches that makes your realize that places like that make life worth living. Only bad thing was when the server abruptly corrected my boyfriend on his pronunciation of the wine we got. It was a Spanish wine--which my boyfriend speaks fluently. But even she grew on us after that. :)

One word sums up this wonderful 8-table restaurant: Paella Once a month, usually on the last Sunday, there is a paella night that Petisco hosts. The dinner begins with a wonderfully inviting pan of paella being prepared on the patio, over an open fire, where you have a chance to see the main course being prepared and chat with the owner Michael. When you walk inside you are greeted by the lovely and vibrant Sandra with an amazing selection of hors d'oeuvres. After helping yourself to hors d'oeuvres (which vary by season) the courses begin... oh how they begin! For June, a tomato based gazpacho was the first course. Followed by a perfectly timed delivery of the arugula salad with candied walnuts, chevere and fresh pears. When you think that the flavors of the soup, salad and sangria have reached perfection - a generous plate of paella reaches you! (There is always enough for a small second serving if you like). This incredible dinner was topped off with a berry crisp ala mode that left the table of sharp witted folk speechless when asked how everything was. This is going to become a regular event to attend. Easily. My goodness. After having stopped by for a late lunch on a couple of occasions I was not surprised when Petisco provided their only-once-a-month dinner with 100 times the pizazz of one of their sandwiches.

We were in the neighborhood running errands and I found this place (and a couple others) on Yelp prior to leaving. As we were reading the menu outside of the restaurant a couple was leaving and told us to stop reading and just get inside and have lunch. THANK YOU THAT COUPLE!!! est advise I've gotten in a long time!! It was great - French onion soup we almost wrestled over it. My husband had the angery sicilian and I had Eggs Benedict with pork shoulder - very nice change fm ham. Latte - perfect and a super cute waitress!! Cannot wait to go back and to be there for Sunday paella!!

WOW. Just wow. I checked this place out during happy hour and was blown away. I ordered the ham sandwich. The bread was outstanding. It was lightly crispy and slightly chewy. The ham used was also outstanding. The brie, mustard, mayo, and tomato finished off the work of art. Also, the side salad was outstanding as well. I can't wait to explore more of the menu. This is one of those places that you can feel confident ordering anything on the menu. You know it will be good. So, the next time there's a rainy day in Portland and you need something to cheer you up, go to Petisco's.

Went to happy hour, sandwich and side salad (which is just mixed greens tossed with a vinaigrette) for $5 bucks and the sandwich was awesome. I had the Angry and it was real bomb. My dude had the Ruben which was the special for the day..that was bomb too. We shared a glass of the $3 red Sangria which was awesome too.

We discovered this gem of a restaurant when friends introduced us to it last weekend and my husband and I returned tonight. The first thing I thought about this place is how un-Portland it felt. Don't get me wrong, I adore Portland and all of our hip, fresh-from-the-farm restaurants but this place makes me feel like I stepped into a little bistro off a side street in Paris. Or in a hilltop village in Italy. Set below street level it is cozy, intimate and unassuming inside and the charming patio will be perfect when the weather warms up. One thing you notice when you walk in is that nearly everyone has a big wine glass full of a red, juicy looking drink in front of them. Sangrias are the house specialty and are divine. How fun is that to start the evening off with a big, lush sangria?? Now the food. Everything we ate both nights was perfect. The waitress told us that Petisco means "snack" in Portuguese. You will find a lot more than snacks here but it is the type of place that you can have a quick bite or a more leisurely meal. The soups are lovely - French onion soup (I love that is isn't sickeningly salty like they can be) and a gorgeous creamy tomato. Other deliciousness we ate: salad Niscoise, crab cakes, pear and brie ravioli with browned butter, insanely rich chocolate tart of some sort and the best flan I have eaten in Portland. Our friends had risotto, arugula salad with goat cheese and red velvet cake. All YUM. Loved the charming waitress too. Can't wait to go back for one of their reservations-only paella nights.

So we got here at 9 on a saturday night and got seated right away. Awesome. I was worried about that on the way down...anyway... Hot damn this was a good find. I've been craving a panini for days. I got one at a place at home in the Couve but it didn't satisfy. The Angry Sicilian was just the thing I was looking for for a few days. And it was only 8 bucks! Oh and served with a small light salad. The app bruschetta was great and only 4.50. The bread was toasted crispy, but not cut your mouth crunchy which has happened to me. Mmm blood on my bruschetta. No thanks. My only complaint is that the iced tea was a bit stale. Not enough to lose a star after a great sandwich and great service though. Ambiance is cute, candles, art, and photography from Italy, France, and Spain give it a european coziness with no pretense. I'm going to rate it as moderately priced since sandwich, soda, and tip would be more than 10 but I took half of my sandwich home so it was one and a half meals for me. You could drink only water or get your sandwich to go to save a few bucks if you felt so inclined.

I'll admit that it's not often I go for a $9 sandwich, but they're just so good that even for the price tag (some are less, yes) I feel happy and not sticker shocked while eating. The space is really comfy and service has always been very friendly and attentive. Many rave about the Angry Sicilian (known inside the doors as 'the angry'), and it is good. It's also a salty meat bomb. I had the special recently, which was ham, brie, and apples. Fantastic. A bite of my wife's 'angry' was enough, and I was very happy with the special. On a previous visit we split a pitcher of the white sangria. Dunno if I'll do that again. It was very juicy and delicious, but while I could do a few glasses of wine given time, downing a few glasses of sweet juice turned into a chore after a while. I'm a red guy anyway.

I've been waiting for an excuse to try Petisco, and was so happy to have been near there at lunch today - YUM. The caprese sandwich on baguette with the side salad was lovely. Simple and lovely. With a limonata on the side, perfection. Can't wait to try other sandwiches. Great personable waitstaff and decent prices. ( Feel terrible for them as they said they just got A/C and it was pretty stanky hot inside. ) Looking forward to lunch on their patio very very soon.

We have been to Petisco many times, and have never been disappointed. It has become one of our favorite spots for a quiet, delicious, affordable date night. Whether we are stopping in at happy hour for for a gorgeous marinated portobello mushroom panini and side salad ($5) and a quick glass of house wine or sangria ($4), or later in the evening for a multi-course dinner and dessert, we always find the food to be fresh, flavorful, unpretentious, and well prepared. The service has always been excellent - attentive, yet relaxed. The atmosphere is cozy, quiet, and intimate without being formal. And the prices...considering the quality of the food, this is truly one of the best dining values around. Petisco deserves to be busting at the seams every night, but somehow they always seem to have table space. It's refreshing to be able to walk in on a weekend night dinner hour and get a table right away, without standing in line for an hour. I think Petisco is one of central Portland's best kept secrets...if you haven't tried it yet, it's time.

I love Petisco! So reasonably priced and the food is delicious! Fresh veggies and fruits, as always. Plus the service is great. Recently had a great pork dish with braised brussel sprouts! Yum. And it is a great location, easy to walk to and a cute little patio in the front. Today, I had some catered nosh and sandwich trays for a work function and Mike brought them over himself! Everyone loved the food. Thanks Mike!

The happy hour here rocks!! The $5 sandwiches are a killer deal. A friend and I came here on a Tuesday evening, split three sandwiches and got a glass of wine each and spent under 30 bucks for everything. The bread they use for the sandwiches is awesome. All the ingredients were really good, it blew my mind that we could get such quality for the cheap price. Also, you get a complementary salad with the sandwich. Service was excellent, very attentive but not invasive at all. Nice atmosphere in the small indoor space, low-ish lighting, casual and relaxed. It was raining when we were here but in nice weather the outdoor patio would be a great place to sit and enjoy great food.

Soo good! I love this restaurant so much, and I go there all the time. One week, I went there three times. Sure it helps that it's near my house, and that the prices are reasonable, but there is truly so much more to this restaurant. The food is amazing. They offer a well balanced menu ranging from light appetizers to hearty, yet well proportioned entrées. Everything is prepared excellently by Michael, the owner, who's always working hard and was a former chef at El Goucho. Thank goodness he's decided to take the quality food from El Goucho and leave the ridiculous pricing. The wine list is decent, but I do wish they had more local wineries. (I'm biased because I work for a local winery, but they should have it anyway). This is truly the best hole in the wall restaurant I've ever found. After they'd been open for 6 months, I only noticed them because I literally tripped on their sidewalk sign. They're tucked away under a thai restaurant with a patio that is a few steps below the sidewalk. Anyway, I looked at the menu and came back a day later, and have never stopped going back. This place is great for lunch, dinner and breakfast. The service is great, personal and with a hint of fire-y latina if you catch Michael's wife as your server. Bottom line is you need to go to this restaurant. You won't regret it.

um, wow! I went here for Sunday brunch and was floored by how good it is. I had the crab cakes with eggs ($11.50) which came with a horseradish cream sauce, roast red potatoes and toast. My partner had the roast pork hash (about $9) which has scrambled eggs, potatoes, peppers and rapini. The crab cakes were delicious and are served with two eggs over easy and an horseradish cream sauce. Potatoes not super crispy, but good. And the roast pork hash? Excellent. The pork was very moist with great flavor and the addition of rapini into the scrambled eggs was an ingenious touch. Stumptown coffee here. It is a charming small cafe that is advertised as having a European feel. There are many photos of Paris and other parts of France adoring the walls. It's very cozy and they also have a small patio on the front that is going to great in the summer when I go back as I will so be back, many times. Can't wait to try their lunch and dinner menu. A Must Go To if you are in the area.

Consistently great, staff is lovely, and the house wine is quite tasty. Chicken parm is my kind of comfort food, and they do it great: crusty crunchy without being over breaded.

I went here for lunch this past week and really enjoyed it. I ordered the Turkey Sandwich with Brie on it. It was very good, and the salad that accompanied it was also really good. The service was quick and very friendly. The overall setup is really cool, almost being like a wine cellar of the house above it. I'd definitely come back to try out some other menu items.

For SURE my favorite lunch spot in Portland. I've recommended this to EVERYBODY who asks where to go for lunch. He's also open for dinner/happy hour too. I think I read somewhere that the owner left a restaurant to open this sando shop up.. They have about 8 sandos, and they're all AMAZING. Ones like fresh ham + brie + red peppers, a "best I've ever had" chicken salad, a portobello pesto pepper, the angry sicilian that everybody else here mentioned, and others I can't recall... his menu is online at Menu.com or something similar, if you google it you can find it. there's great outdoor seating in the little courtyard, and inside has a cool decor. i went the first week it opened and went back once a week since, and have seen it transform into something pretty cool. I seriously recommend this place. Just amazing flavor combinations.

We live in the neighborhood near Petisco and have been longtime fans. But what is motivating me to post this is due to the awesome job they did catering my husband's birthday party. The chef, Michael McFarlane, whipped up an amazing menu of seafood paella, roast beef, crostini, pear salad and an antipasto platter. It was all absolutely fantastic, and our 20+ guests kept asking, "Where did this food come from?" They do paella night once a month at the restaurant -- ti's well worth making a reservation. Happy hour at Petisco is a really good bargain, and it's close to Lloyd so you can stop by to grab a bite before a movie. The meatloaf is one of the best I've ever had -- I think there's andouille sasuage in it -- it's irresistible. The gnocchi is another favorite dish -- velvety pouches of gnocchi in a cream sauce. YUM. We love taking our son there; they are very accommodating in making a grilled cheese or mac and cheese. Plus you can get the breakfast sandwich all day, which is one of our son's favorites. Brunch is also fantastic. You can't go wrong at Petisco.

Blink and you might miss it - I've probably walked by it a thousand times on my way to Yuki and only noticed it today because the owner's wife was chatting it up to people passing by. Sushi was calling but I decided to try something new, and I'm glad I did. Stumptown coffee and a simple but tasty "Napa Valley" - scrambled eggs with goat cheese and roasted veggies. The potatoes were fantastic, perfectly crispy on the outside, and the artisan bread for toast was a nice change from the standard "white or wheat" most places offer. I was a little disappointed with the Smuckers strawberry jam in the little packet - it would've been a nicer touch to have it in a glass container w/spoon - but that's my only beef and life's too short to be so petty, and anyway, I'm sure they will get there soon. It's a nice open space inside and there's lots of patio seating as well. I liked the casual, nonmatching furniture feel. The service was excellent. The best news is that they have more than two veggie sandwich options, and as everyone has stated, most are in the $6-7 range, so I will definitely be going back for lunch.

The Angry Sicilian sandwich on Ciabatta with greens was very good and the price very reasonable, just $8.00 -- and that is Petisco's highest price for a sandwich. The Nicoise salad was excellent and the chicken salad very good, again for very reasonable prices. The beer list was short but good, typically $3.75 for a 12-ounce bottle. Wine was $5.50 to $6.75 a glass; Sangria, $5.00 a glass. Service was friendly. Our only criticism was the unavoidable fact that this Broadway sandwich shop's otherwise pleasant patio suffers from a lot of traffic noise. However, you can eat inside and you'll have to look long and hard to find a better value near the Lloyd Center.

A must go for dinner! Nice cosy place for a date night, the waitress is super nice and the chef can give you a few pieces of advice on a slow night.Try the bacon wrapped meatloaf, comes loaded with flavor and is one of the best I've head.

I was so excited to try this place but I was a little disappointed. I had the mushroom ravioli and thought I would see actual pieces of mushroom inside the ravioli, nope. Inside was a mushroom and cheese "paste". it wasn't very appetizing. We also tried the pear crisp for desert, the sauce was weird and it wasn't a whole poached pear as you would assume reading the description. Small portions. The place is small and the waitress was weird. The manager also told us we were being un-inviting because we were crammed into a table in the corner and we tried to spread out 'blocking' the path into the restaurant. That was incredibly rude IMO

  • Chelsea A.

Great sandwhiches, that is all that needs to be said. Well ok, the owners are freaking awesome! Plus, the whole place is kinda cute and their patio section was spectacular during the summer with a glass of wine (or as Don B. mentioned $3 sangria!).

My wife and I had lunch there. Nice patio...downhill from there. No wait to get a seat, then we waited almost an hour for our food. The salmon salad and butternut squash ravioli were no more than average, but by the time we got our meals fried dirt would have been appetizing. I like a relaxed, not snail pace to meals. We're one and done here.

There's a dearth of high quality - high value casual eats along Broadway near Lloyd Center. Not any more. Petisco isn't trying to be a "destination" dining spot (thank god). I've had a couple of great sandwiches there. They use quality bread, quality meats and toppings, the portion size is perfect (who needs sandwiches as big as your head???) and the price is great. Start patronizing Petisco NOW for lunch and dinner (except on Mondays when they are closed). This neighborhood needs a place like Petisco (especially when they get their alcohol license)!!!!

I had only stopped in at Petisco for lunch from time to time (which was also excellent) but had never been in for their dinner....and WOW I was missing out! Petisco offers a variety of seasonal dinner plates that range in price from reasonable to very reasonable! The creativity that is displayed in the dishes (at a good price) is so refreshing! Last night for an appetizer I had a crostini topped with chevre and wild mushrooms! So good! I also split a bottle of wine with my sister for $12!!! yes that's right $12!!! It was happy hour so the wine was a bargain! The restaurant is cozy and gives off the feeling of a little french Wine bar--nestled below the street in a little quaint cove. I will be back!

I fell in love with Petisco a couple of years ago. Their sandwiches are amazing, the house wine is always good, and it has a great cozy little atmosphere. In keeping with the sandwich theme this week, I decided to try that new sandwich hotspot, Petisco. How could I not, when they advertised a sandwich called the "angy sicilian"... it's like waving a bottle of 2 dollar scotch in front of my friend Ben S.... irresistable. Easy parking on broadway.. VERY nice looking space, lots of table space. nice menu...looks like some good choices.. but I zeroe'd right in on the angry sicilian... make that 2.. one for me, one for my buddy paul. Super friendly server brings them over... we both look up and are like .. wtf... " this sandwich doesn't look angry at all".... turns out, it's only slightly aggravated. Great bread... a little bit of some cured meat and cheese... with a blah salad of greens on the side. Not a bad sandwich... just not worth passing by bunk for it. I think that this restaurant would be a fun place at night for wine, drinks, and tapas ... but for sandwiches? meh.

Breakfast at Petisco's is always a treat. The coffee is wonderful, and you do not have to pull open the little half and half containers that are served at so many places. You actually get your own little pitcher of half and half. The eggs are wonderful and taste farm fresh,as good as when I used to get eggs from my own chickens. The hash browns are crispy red potatos. All ready thinking about going again. The service is wonderful too.

Petisco is one of those places I don't really want to tell people about because it is so small and perfect. The sandwiches and salads are delicious and the service is always extra friendly. I have mainly gone for lunch, and never been disappointed. But go for dinner if you want a great meal for a great value that feels like it was home cooked just for you. I love this place.

This is the best restaurant in my neighborhood. My boyfriend, our families, and I come here all the time for dinner. Recently I even cheated on being vegetarian to enjoy their Paella night. 1. Value: for what you pay, the quality of the food is amazing. Everything I've had here has been fresh and delicious. I don't think I've actually seen a dinner entree over $25, and the Paella night set us back around 70 bucks for sangria and a five course meal (appetizers, soup, salad, paella, dessert) for two people. 2. Atmosphere: This is a little oasis from the dreariness of Northeast Broadway. Their patio is fabulously shaded and, while you still get some street noise, a more protected al fresco than is standard in Portland. The interior is cave-like and mellow, and a great spot for a romantic date (although be aware that Petisco is family friendly, so there might be noisy wee ones). It's not overly fussy-I'm comfortable here. 3. The sangria: it's damn good. Just get a pitcher. Also, the wine is a bit more fairly priced than I've seen at other places. 4. Service: I think I've only ever seen two different female servers here, plus the fellow behind the range (I think his name is Michael?) often makes the rounds. The service is consistently above average, friendly, and excellent at making real recommendations about which of the entrees to choose. They provide just the right amount of service-not overbearing, but still attentive. 5. Finally, the most important part, THE FOOD: I love everything I've tried here. I've even made my own reproduction of one of their salads at home, as a girl cannot eat out every night of the week. Entrees seem to be around 12-18 dollars and are perfectly portioned and wonderfully consistent. I recommend trying either the Petisco or Cheese plate or the Oregonzola/candied nut salad to start. Whatever entree you choose will invariably be delicious. I've tried the mushroom risotto, the chicken (often a nice safe, boring standby at other restaurants-not so here-it was flavorful and perfectly cooked), the brussels sprouts, and many of their sandwiches. My boyfriend loves their bacon wrapped meatloaf. Spring for a dessert too-you still won't break the bank.

We had a few sandwiches for happy hour tonight. The chicken bacon club (tonight's special) was very good as was the roast beef. My only complaint was that it was poorly lit and the food was a tad salty. All in all the $5 sandwich happy hour special is a great deal! I'll be back!

This place was great. A little tight but a gem of a place. Service was great. Got the a yummy salmon salad special and gnocci dish that was the perfect dinner before running to a movie. The (large) white sangria had ample fruit and a hint of passion fruit! YUM! We'll definitely be back.

Delicious sandwiches! I had the ham and brie, my husband had the "Angry Sicilian" (lots of meats). Really extremely tasty, I can't wait to go back. The hot chocolate was good too, not too sweet. The server was really nice, the environment is warm and cozy. A+

Great attentive service! Not your average sandwich shop--sit down meal, varied meal options from sandwiches to pasta and lamb, fantastic seafood soup, decent drink selection in a casual comfortable atmosphere. Perfect Friday evening meal place to wrap up the work week. Delicious!

I got the angry sicilian to go and it was absolutely delicious. Great sandwich. Only quibble is that it's on the average size and I like a big sandwich, but most people will be happy with the size and thrilled with the taste.

we just went to petisco for lunch and it was delicious! we had the special roast beef which had a kalamata olive spread on it. the meat was rare and shaved super thin. soooooo good! we also had the prosciutto sandwich, warmed on cibatta bread that included mozarella, basil and tomoato. having it warmed was perfect. loved this place and will totally go again.

Really surprisingly good sandwiches. Good quality meat, cheese and atmosphere. A little long on the wait time, but the friendly waitress made up for that with her insights on the menu. Sitting outside was a plus as well.

Outstanding. I wish I had tried this place earlier: between food, atmosphere, and service, Petisco is absolutely tough to beat. The place is tiny with no more room for maybe 25 people, in a random Broadway basement location, but the experience is excellent. Also, there is some outdoor seating when the sun comes out in Portland. Highly recommended.

Friendly, affordable, and most importantly, delicious. I took the advice of another Yelper & got the Angry Sicilian which - untrue to its name - made me quite happy. The flavors all married together well an you gotta love a sandwich with lots of meat piled on. Go! Enjoy!

Read about them in the Oregonian so we gave them a try. Incredibly good food served by friendly people. We were set on one of their regular menu sandwiches but ended up with a pork sandwich from their Specials menu and were blown away. Don't usually visit the same restaurant within the same week but were back a few days later for some more. Looking forward to the warmer weather so we can enjoy their food on the deck.

oh my god. have no idea why this place is listed as just -- sandwiches (though the ones they have are so very good). more like an Italian deli sandwich shop by day with lovely entree specials, full on family dining of traditional italian, but cooked like your at someone's tuscany family home, not at a chain restaurant. everything about the place is like being in someone's nice home -- from the food to the service to feeling like mom is serving you a great lunch out on the patio on a sunny day. yes, the sandwiches are great -- the angry sicilian being a charcuterie piled high with more great deli than you can imagine. the entrees are wonderful home-style dishes that may make you want to move in, or closer to this irvington find, and never leave. +a really great wine selection. ++a sagría that is delish and makes everyone a bit giddy & giggly. +++wifi. ++++very friendly wait staff that treat you like family. need i go on? go, enjoy -- Mange!

While posting yoga fliers for the Broadway Sidewalk Sale, I passed by Petisco glanced at their menu and made it a point to visit. The menu offers a nice selection with fair prices. Not knowing what was the best option for an appetizer I asked the waitress and she suggested their cheese sampler plate but we decided to go with the Beef Carpaccio and the Bruschetta along with a red and white Sangria. The appetizer were great. The Sangria came in large wine glasses and were enhanced by fresh chopped melon and pineapple. I do have to admit I have had better Sangria. It was mediocre at best. We finished our apps and I requested our check. Our check was promptly brought to the table and I then placed my card down awaiting the waitress to return to pick up the check. While the waitress was picking up my check I was speaking to my boyfriend and did not see her. After finishing my conversation, I went to pick up my glass of Sangria only to notice that it was gone! As a former server, the first lesson you should learn is that you ALWAYS ask your guests if they are finished before picking up their food/drink. You never ever assume. She was at a table by us with my drink in hand and my boyfriend kindly asked her back over to our table to get my drink back. I explained that I was not finished with my drink yet. She then replied "Would you like a spoon or a fork for your drink?"! How rude! Then end our our dining experience really was quite unfortunate. We will sadly not be returning for another visit as we deserve to be treated with respect.

Wow, this place rocks! They could make a peanut butter sandwich taste fantastic. They have amazing Ciabatta sandwiches that are toasted and extremely full of flavor and fresh ingredients. The staff is great and I love the hole in the wall feel that is reminicent of something you might discover strolling around in Rome, minus the Italian decor.
