I just moved to this neighborhood and Nonna is by far my favorite bit. It's cozy, the wine recommendations are enlightening and delicious and the food is simply great. Two of us usually share some bread, a couple starters, a plate of pasta each and split something like the yummy brisket and lentils. I need to try their happy hour.

We were going to Docs and thought we'd try this instead. Wow!!! Fresh and exciting flavors. Great value for the succulent dishes. Will definitely be back for the best Italian restaurant I've been to in Portland.

Good food. Good drinks. Friendly service. We were seated at a table near the door, so I got cold whenever the door opened. And there's not much space between tables so I had to try hard to ignore the loud conversation next to me, but those are both minor criticisms. I liked this place and I will return.

My husband and I went on opening night and everything went off without a hitch. Excited for another great restaurant in our neighborhood. The Brussels sprouts were delicious!

This place rocks! It has a great reasonably priced menu with well pick wines. The brisket was amazing and only $10.00. There's also a pleasant atmosphere and great service.

Disappointing. The restaurant was so warm, almost hot inside. We noticed waitstaff trying to prop open a back door, unsuccessfully. We traded going outside to cool off while attempting to eat the too salty manicotti. During our meal, we were not served any more water, and the one glass of wine, never replenished. Could not wait to get to our car for water. We sat at the bar and were all but ignored. Food not impressive, service poor. We dine out often, and love to support our Portland local businesses. However, had to write a review here, we had such an unpleasant experience.

Wow! I don't know if I'm more picky than the rest of you or what but we went to Nonna Friday night based on the reviews here. Boy, were we disappointed. We tried the brussels sprouts, rapine, pipettes and manicotti. The brussels sprouts were good and the polpette were OK, everything else not so much. Manicotti was too dry and had been in the oven too long. We couldn't scrape it out of its little skillet. Service was v-e-r-y slow with only one server in the back room. We will not be back.

When I saw that DOC (which I LOVE) was opening a casual restaurant/wine bar, I was really excited. I went once and didn't have a great experience, but gave it a second try, thinking that I had maybe ordered wrong, or that they were still working out the kinks. After my second experience, I decided that I will never go back. The wine is reasonably priced (around 30/bottle), but their list is very boring. Nothing exceptional or off the beaten path, as you would expect from a place connected to DOC. The food was OK, but much of it was so salty that it was inedible. Portions were small (and seemed to get even smaller between my first and second visit?), to the extent that after spending $100 for 2 for dinner (including a $30 bottle of wine), we were both hungry afterwards. I kept thinking how much better my money would have been spent at any other restaurant. Service was very good, but not good enough to make up for lackluster wine and mediocre food.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
