Go here for the great view of downtown and the wine... Not the food. Most of the meals I've had here have been unimpressive. The onion rings are actually bad, and the rest pretty bland. But it's a great place to try some wine flights and sit out on the balcony on a pleasant summer evening.

A meal adventure fit for nobility. This farm to table gives new meaning to the concept. My salad, a creative and tasty delight, was grown on the rooftop of the building which has a LEED certification. The veggies may have been as well. The flatiron steak was tender and tasty. The salmon was nicely done and served with an unusual but excellent squash and shrimp combo side. We were intrigued by the rooftop grown veggies and herbs and asked if we could see it. Not only did we see it, but were expertly guided by the owner! What a treat; the views and vibes were great too. One of the best dining experiences ever!

Came here for happy hour on my trip to Portland with my boyfriend and loved the amazing Patio and view! They are located on the 4th floor so the patio has a view. The service was really nice and friendly. They have a good happy hour menu Monday - Friday from 5-6pm. Not an extensive menu but good for grabbing a snack and some drinks. The draft beer was great at $4 and we ordered the onion rings and fries for $3/each. Great patio spot and highly recommended

POOREST VALUE FOR MONEY. Menu described chef special as Pasta with Braised Tips for $19. And what I got was a very small dish of pasta with NO MEAT. That right, I could find no braise tips. It looked like there was a small sprinkle of ground pepper on top. Turns out, those tiny crumbs where the braised tips. WHAT A JOKE AND A RIP OFF. Other than being a very poor value, the place looked clean.

Came in on the night before Christmas Eve and this place was packed. You take an elevator up to the top floor of a new building and the restaurant is right there. Service is very attentive and they have a few very well selected beers on tap as well as an extensive wine list. Lighting is dim and the room is really laid out for the view of the west side of Portland. Roomer has it in the summer all the windows open up and the place has a cool indoor/outdoor dining experience. I started with the avocado and and watercress salad, which is phenomenal, one of my favorite all-time salads. It has a nice little bit of spice to it. Another member of our party had the butter lettuce salad that was also very good. For a main course I had the flat iron steak frites. The steak was cooked to rare perfection (You don't have a choice) and the fries were crisp and perfectly cut. It also includes grilled romaine, definitely a plus. Other members of my family ordered the black cod, unfortunately it came out from the kitchen a bit cold. Other than that, the food was all excellent. Definitely one of Portland's better nice restaurants, I wouldn't have a problem coming back.

Atmospheric for starters especially out there on the roof. It's got a spaciness feel to it mixed with intimacy and then loudness, at least this evening. There were people being romantic, mixed with 2 huge tables full of women having some sort of celebration.. I swear I could not figure out what they were celebrating, though they were wearing feathered boas and carrying presents. Sun in our eyes, and then wind came round.. definitely had the elements of all sorts out on that roof. We just went with it all. Had a bottle of champagne and their Crème brûlée. I saw a number of different plates go by that looked pretty yummy so I will go back for sure. Even just for the view itself.

Noble Rot has been on my long list of restaurants to try in Portland for a while now. We decided last week to check it out. We have a loft in the Pearl, our 2nd home but get there a few times a month. We tend to stick around the Pearl but venture out always in search of a new place to dine. We drove over to Noble Rot and went upstairs and immediately loved the place. The ambience is lovely, well lit for dining or just a cocktail and it felt warm and inviting. We were seated promptly and enjoyed our meal and drinks and asked for a tour of the roof top garden. It was already pretty dark but chef Joseph took us up to see the garden and we tasted strawberries and rubbed herbs and enjoyed the scents. I had a special that included ricotta dumplings fried in browned butter with some squash and delicious endive salad at the beginning. The staff was attentive and very nice. I highly suggest you add Noble Rot to the top of your "restaurants in Portland to go to" list and enjoy it! By the way... I believe they normally give roof top garden tours at 5pm but call ahead to be sure.

I'm compelled to assign star ratings regarding specific facets of this Portland Burnside tradition. View- in the summertime 5 stars - amazing dusk views ...In the winter - You can barely see the Doug Fir from here- 2 stars Vibe -3.5 stars...Its sleek, modern in that early 2000's kind of way ...maybe time for a refresh? Drinks 3.5 stars ..Wine list 300 plus a nice selection....not much feedback on cocktails but the Pimms Shrub is a must. Beer Selection - as they say in Scotland ..." its Chraap"...kidding , there are 4-5 choices ....nothing stellar. Happy Hour -1.5 stars Pricing is decent but a 1 hour happy hour? Appetizers 3.5 stars I've stuck to the meat and cheese plates -good value and good selection. Entrees - N/A yet to be inclined to eat there. I've been there a number of times between 5-7 pm....for a drink- apps and it is usually crowded...I sense a large number of corporate events and parties. The staff is friendly but honestly so far, nothing exceptionally great or poor...in fact I cant really remember the service....and that's not a great sign. The Noble Rot is a great stop on a Kearns bar hopping excursion ...so far I'm not compelled to linger composite score? 3 stars

They have a wonderful selection of wine flights- which I'm finding more and more difficult to come by. The food is great (loved the bright green soup that was obviously made fresh from their roof top garden) and the views are beautiful. Only small hang up is the service can be a bit hit or miss. Otherwise, a great place for good wine and food.

Food choice was a little limited, but the selections we made were all cooked perfectly. Believe it or not, the highlight was the french fries, which were some of the best I've ever eaten! Service was good, we were seated promptly per our reservation time, waitress was attentive. A very good meal overall.

At the outset, the setting with a unique view of Portland is spectacular. However, that is the only accolade that I can give you from my meal at the Noble Rot. The server was surly. Perhaps with a guaranteed 20% gratuity from our party of 6, he had no incentive to be polite. I believe that this gratuity policy is over the top. A party of 6 is not an overly large group warranting such a policy. The food was mediocre at best. I had the special fettuccini with chorizo which was too salty and not very special. Another member of our party had the flat iron steak which he also found too salty. Is there a trend here? Finally, the time to plate our meals was inordinately long. Given it's reputation, we had especially looked forward to our dinner at the Noble Rot and were completely disappointed. We will not return. Do not waste your time. There are far better eating establishments in Portland.

I'm in a list making mood. Here is why I enjoyed my Noble Rot experience: 1. the view from the 4th floor (?) outdoor patio of downtown Portland is fantastic 2. the hostess and server were friendly and not pretentious 3. good moscow mule 4. cheese plate and olives were outstanding 5. it's pretty and "romantic" the end.

Definitely a foodie restaurant. Great vibe, with a fresh, local menu. One of the best halibut dishes I've had in a long time. Not to mention it was very affordable given the quality.

Noble Rot came highly recommended by a trusted foody friend. Tight, little fourth floor place with a marvelous view and eclectic selection of wine complemented by a full bar. Started with a very nice Rooftop Salad and Potato Soup. Also ordered an Oregon Pinot Noir flight. First glass was bad, which the waiter replaced.., much better. Ordered chicken for me, salmon for wife, who specifically requested it cooked through. Salmon arrived charred on top, raw on bottom. Sent it back, where they microwaved it and replated. Chicken was quite salty, which for me is saying a lot. Dessert was good, thankfully. They comped the salmon and one dessert, but it was still a disappointing meal.

I went here with my wife for a nice anniversary dinner. Wife liked the place. I found it be somewhat pompous. The menu item selection was not great, and the serving staff not impressive ( they forgot about a wine order my wife put in until we reminded them). The waitress we had explained the meals in a very stuck up language and attitude. Very dismissive. The Salmon my wife had had burnt spots on it, and my Halibut was miserably small serving. Overall the value for the dollar was very small. The Beer was good. The view was good. Bathrooms clean, noise level very acceptable. All of those things aside, the primary reason one would go to a restaurant - the food - disappointing. Maybe a less attitude prone waiting staff would change the experience. We will give them another chance to redeem.

I made a reservation for a table with a view this week for my ladies birthday when I got there the blinds were down. A bit disappointing the whole point of going was for the view I i wish someone would have suggested a better time for a good view but the food was incredible tpp bad you cant smoke on the patio oregon smoking laws suck

Came here for dinner expecting to be wowed... especially considering the price point for their entrées ($24 for fried chicken? it better be battered in GOLD FLAKES) I was unsure of what to order and ended up going with the server's recommendation of the aforementioned fried chicken and it was totally tasteless. I've actually never had a more disappointing plate of chicken in my life, like, really. KFC is better. Two friends ordered the pasta special... equally bland, and another friend got the goat cheese panini... all of us complained that we could literally not taste the food. This is hands down the worst meal I've had in Portland, and it's just not justifiable with what this place is charging. I guess it serves me right for assuming a correlation between price and quality, because you can get MUCH better meals in portland for a fraction of the cost.

What an atmosphere! Beautiful from the moment you step foot into the restaurant bar to the covered patio to the uncovered balcony area. What a place! I would recommend it just to stand there and enjoy the beauty, but add delicious drinks and a crafty menu on top of that and you have one spectacular night!!! Fried avocado salad was to die for! Have you ever thought of that? I can't wait to do this myself! And I can't wait to come back!

UPDATE My first experience at Noble Rot was only 2 stars - and now it's jumped up to FIVE (yeah, I went there!) The reason is simple: the Noble Rot burger. This burger, in all its simplicity, is somehow the most magical, delicious, melt-in-your-mouth burger I have ever tasted. I came here and had this and literally could not stop thinking about it to the point that I had to go back two weeks later and have another one. And it was just as incredible the second time around! Note: As much as you are tempted, go with the noble salad as your side rather than the fries. It is the far superb option. Second Note: Spring for the cheese for the extra $2 or whatever it is. I can assure you you will NOT regret it. OK, my mouth is watering again...

One of the best roof top views to see in portland. The patio area is great during those warm summer months and heated during those nights when the weather isn't quite as nice. Take your date here! Major points for the view alone. Panty-dropper.. The ambiance is perfect and the noise level is just right.

One of the best skyline views in the city. Very nice food and varied selection of tasting flights. Also a great place to take a date.

Loved it! GREAT cocktails, good happy hour (and prices in general are less than you might expect), and, obviously, a GREAT view. We went right when they opened at 5pm and got sat immediately, but I've heard from others that reservations are wise in this small space. I went with a friend visiting from out of town, but this also seems like it would be a great date spot. Service was a little stand-off-ish, but friendly enough to be getting on with. I will definitely be back - maybe even for my anniversary in a few weeks!

NR has great drinks, soups, vegetables (which they grow from their garden on the roof) and sometimes great salads; however, the actual entrees are poor and they are sorely overpriced given their quality, taste and design. The service was excellent, as was the atmosphere. We deeply appreciate quiet, well designed spaces that decrease street noise and mute inside sounds which increase intimacy and the enjoyment of the drinks & meals. It is important to mention that NR does have the best view in Portland, which makes it one of the best places for a drink, appetizer and a good conversation. In sum, we will return here for the atmosphere, drinks and an appetizer, but not for dinner.

Location, wine and food were great, service was very slow. Great location on Burnside with unique view of Portland. Stellar wine list and bartender was knowledgable about the wines. Halibut with carrot ginger purée was perfectly cooked and tasted very fresh. All other dishes from the meat plate (awesome terrine) to the cardamom lemon cake were inspired and delicious. Service was friendly, but very slow as they seemed to be quite understaffed.

The view was beautiful out on the deck, the cocktails rocked, the wine list amazing. The food was amazing, but the portion very tiny for the price. Would try again to see if perhaps it was just my chosen dish that was disappointing.

I give this place 5 stars. In your mind, imagine everything you could want in a restaurant.......most likely you'll find it at Noble Rot. I went there for a special occasion. Very impressed with the place. Not very big, but not very small, just a good size. Not super loud either, so you can absolu The ambiance is awesome, the view if you can get a outside seat is great......and the food is top notch. I highly recommend.

Food is ok based on the high price. Also, the place was cold and our table wasn't nice (although many other better tables were open). The views are worth the visit, but maybe for a drink.

I came here for my birthday with a big group of friends. We had happy hour with lots of wine, an awesome sandwich and french fries. Great view, great staff. Later in the evening, I couldn't find that sandwich. I was lost.. But then I found it and ate the rest and my birthday was the best ever.

Noble Rot sits on its throne atop a 4-story building at the crest of the incline on E Burnside where it intersects Sandy. The view of downtown from atop this pillar is quite stunning, indeed. In fact, one does feel a bit like royalty when looking down upon Buckman while dining on fine foods and fancy wines. But lo, at what great price does this opulent visage come? A hefty one. For the Rot does bear a striking appearance to many a Portland restaurant, with its fancy menu of small and medium plates and its striking wine list. Well, it does smack of wine bar with restaurant food a bit more that restaurant with wine, but aside from that, think nibbles, bites, salads, pastas, fish and meat dishes that range from $12 for the mac n cheese to the $30's for the 'Kobe' beef ribeye. The wines come by the glass, bottle or flight and range from the okay to more-expensive-than-they-should-be (example: $13 for Argyle 2007 brut?!). While some of the flights prove very intriguing and well-thought-out, I was not impressed with the larger-than-average markup on many of the wines. We sampled some Italian reds and whites while dining in a nice window seat under a weird Italian molded-plastic light that looked like a cross between something you'd see at a rave and something you'd see in someone's basement. It didn't match the much nicer and more well-thought-out decór in the rest of the establishment. The wines were mighty nice, that's for sure. And we definitely paid a pretty penny for them. Our food consisted of the roasted almonds, marinated olives, the pasta of the day (house made fettucini in a creamy mushroom sauce - $18) and the sturgeon (with brassicas - brussels, cauliflower and broccoli - atop a cooked grain - $24). The pasta was delicious but woefully small for the hefty price tag. After all, it is the highest-margin food in the restaurant. And while we don't expect Olive Garden portions, this was much smaller than average. The sturgeon was good as well. A bit overcooked but tasty. Not on the caliber of some of the more known restaurants in town that charge the same price, though. Even the burger was close to $12. In the end our bill was $92 for 2 entrees, 3 glasses of wine, a flight ($18) and two nibble plates (like bar pinchos, not full appetizers). I do think that a good 20% of that is premium for the view, as I could pay the same for a similarly-sized meal at, say, Le Pigeon which will have a pretty high quality of food (and a decent portion ratio). While I did enjoy my meal, I found that the value proposition simply was not there for me. I would definitely return to sip on some fine wines and enjoy the view, but I would stick to wines I don't see elsewhere (since I know I'm paying a premium here) and I'd probably stick to HH or appetizers.

Great views and prompt, friendly service. The food is excellent. I enjoy the Happy Hour burger very, very much and the Spiced Heaven Cocktail is great. The rest of the happy hour food menu is great and varied. There is also a good wine list. Lots of fun to be had here.

We came for coffee, dessert, the view and to see what all the hype was about. I can see why so many people love this place. It is great on so many levels. It's rather a departure for me to have such a great view of the beautiful city of Portland from the east side. I don't venture from downtown much as I tend to avoid driving if possible. I suppose I could even walk to Noble Rot and that's really not a bad idea as next time I come, I'd like to have a few glasses of wine. I also saw several items on the menu I would like to try. I think it is wonderful that so many of the items on the menu are actually grown on the rooftop garden. There is nothing better than fresh, garden produce. The view of Portland is amazing from the terrific patio. There are overhead heat lamps on the covered side for those chilly evenings which are a wonderful touch that I appreciate. On the uncovered side of the patio, I did not see any free-standing heat lamps in use but did see a free standing heat lamp outside in the entry way as we were leaving. I wish that it was in use and near our table that evening as it was a bit chilly. The coffee was smooth and flavourful; perfect with the crème brûlée which had that just right crust on top and the custard had that just right consistency...not too runny, not too viscous. We were duly impressed, the view, the menu, the service, the elegance and we will be back!

Very nice. My wife had the halibut with blackened rice. It was pretty good. I had the grilled lamb. Mine came with a delicious salad, but I felt it shouldn't have been paired with the lamb....both dishes were very rich...very good though. We'll be back

Seeking a glass of pinot g and a snack, cruising Burnside on foot after sadly accepting the fact that Kir had already closed, ended up at Noble Rot on a gorgeous evening, just perfect for outside dining. "Hmm, fourth floor... do we take the stairs?" Heck no! We're bein' fancy tonight, friend, elevator toute de suite! Upon entry, we were warmly greeted by the hostess and given our pick of seats on the awesome patio. We were a bit too late for the regular menu, but the late night menu was just fine. A couple $5.50 house pours later, and we were all set to take in the view of the city (and Rose Festival, oh hello!) and act all fancy. Tried the panino, which I thought was pretty darn good for $6.75, with a salad. I have definitely paid way more for way less quality sandwiches all over town. Thin slices of roasted butternut squash, caramelized onions, tangy chevre on pressed como. The salad was ai'ght, butter lettuce with sunflower seeds and house vinaigrette. On the cheeseplate, $9, decent portions of a variety of cheeses - two Wisconsin, one Oregon, and one California, with a bowl of sliced bread. A handful of dried fruit or some sliced apple or something would have been nice, but I was too distracted by the view and shenanigans happening below us on Burnside to complain about anything. Our service was excellent. Knowing that lots of their veggies are grown right there on the rooftop (and you can take home a head of roof lettuce for $1!) is pretty cool, and I'll definitely come back to this place again. We were out of there for less than I would have spent had I stopped by one of many of my usual late-night snack stops on the way home, and the fancy factor was just an added bonus.

Who would bring a 3-year old to a restaurant like this? Umm, that would be me and my family. When Grandma and Grandpa fly all the way out from Minnesota, they only have two things to accomplish on a visit out to Portland- eat great Portland food and hangout with the grandkid as much as possible. Thanks to smartphones and an accommodating staff at Noble Rot, it all worked out and there were no annoyed grown ups. As far as we could tell. We asked if a child's plate of pasta could be made and they were able to whip up a half order size of pasta for $9. For a preschooler- this half order lasted 4 meals. Not bad! The grandparents were blown away by the view. This is definitely a place to bring out-of-town guests to, for not only the beautiful view, but the fresh food as well.

Many Portlanders don't realize that this place has the best view of any venue of the east side. Stunning views across the river into our fair city of Portland. I love the fact that they grow so much of their ingredients above the heads of the diners and drinkers. Fresh ingredients for great food. This is the perfect restaurant for winos or even people who are just getting into wine and want to try some great ones. Order a flight or by the glass or bottle. The wait staff is knowledgeable and happy to offer suggestions. Happy hour from 5-6 only on week nights and it fills up quick so go early.

Noble rot hit's the spot- if the spot is enjoying good company and getting liquored up. Come here for booze, not food. Their food selection is very limited because they focus on the booze, but they do booze well. So nothing to be sad about. I hear the food they DO serve is good though. Also, during the summer the outdoor balcony offers a super view of the city, but there are no umbrellas so the full sun in your face while drinking is a little rough sometimes. Definitely order the wine flights (wine tasting in flight, afternoon de-light!) and take a tour of some delectable selections from Walla Walla or Willamette Valley. I mean, it's always fun to get three glasses of wine placed in front of you at the same time, am I right? The wines are fantastic, but the real gems at Noble Rot are the cocktails. Specifically the Green Flash. It is so clean and refreshing and creative! It's the perfect drink to sip on a hot summer's day. Which is what I did. And it was awesome. The cocktail selection is not expansive- i think there are 8 in total, but they are all unique and VERY different from each other. It'll be a fun evening to choose a cocktail and try and guess what it will taste like (you'll be wrong, but still try). I hope somebody out there understood my song reference.

I came here on a perfect spring day, and was able to experience the beautiful view of the city. The interior was slightly sterile, but the service was very welcoming and attentive. They have a great bottle list with a nice variety, though I would have hoped for the same with the glass pours. Their happy hour food is excellent! Overall, a nice experience and I will definitely be back.

The first time I went to Noble Rot was quite a few years ago, when they were still located at the old address. I remembered the food was decent but not being a wine person, I had no reason to come back. I returned years later enticed with the talk of good views and food specials on Sundays/Mondays and I'm glad I did! The whole place is nicely decorated with a warm feel. The booths are big and comfy looking - definitely a place for a nice date night. The view from the Atrium was very nice, you can see the famous "Portland" sign over Burnside bridge. The service was excellent because it was just right. We have a table for 10 and he let us mingle without being felt ignored and he was there when we needed something. The Sundays/Mondays food special was a smoking deal too! You can get a 3-course meal for $24 and pretty much everything that we ordered that night was excellent. I will definitely be back again, maybe for a special date night ;)

There are so many great places in Portland to eat, we don't need to put up with bad service. And the service we got here just SUCKED!!! The food and drinks we have had here before was very good. We recently stopped by for a nice glass of wine and some snacks after work. The place was packed without even a seat at the bar. We told the hostess we were happy to sit at the bar if a couple places opened up. She got us each a $15 glass of Pinot and ushered us to the waiting area by the elevator. After 20 min there and 10+ people leaving we went back in to check and the hostess didn't recognize us or remember we were waiting, even though she took our name, which she couldn't find in their system. She ushered us back out by the elevator for another 15 min after we again reminded here we would sit at the bar if it came open. When I went back in there were 4 seats available at the bar and she again said "Welcome, can I help you?" I ask if we could sit at the bar and she said "Oh sure, if you like". We paid the $30 for our 2 glasses of wine and left. So if you really want to try their great food and wine you should only go late at night and not on the weekend, cause you won't get the chance to get a table or the bar otherwise!!!

One of our favorite Friday spots is Noble Rot. The onion rings are worth the fat and calories. The salad that comes with my burger is such a yummy, healthy option with a vinaigrette that it leaves room for a guilt-free brownie and ice cream with caramel sauce for desert. I'll gladly pay for it in extra sit-ups. When my burger is good it's really good, but when it ain't, we'll, it's a bummer. A while back I had two bummer burger visits in a row so we took a Noble break for a spell. My last few visits have been perfectly yum. Service is ALWAYS great, and they aim to please. Had I griped about my errant burgers I know they would have worked to make me a happy camper. All in all, with Noble Rot, I am.

Big comfy booths - check. Amazing view of the city/city lights - check. Good happy hour - check. Great wine selection - check. All these - 5 stars. Service - amazing, attentive, prompt, LOVE! The food - well, I expected more, so I'm going 3 stars on the food. Happy hour boasts 3 veggie-friendly items (mac and cheese, squash/goat cheese panino and salad), not including fries or onion rings. I thought I'd go straight for the "real" menu - again could have had the panino or mac and cheese on the "real" menu too, but opted for the lentil, quinoa and oat cake stuffed with mozzarella cheese. Sounded good, tasted good - but the outside of the cake was almost burned, and the overall entre was surprisingly lukewarm. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't great like I had expected. However, I went back later the same evening and got the mac and cheese - VERY tasty, and I'm glad I tried it. Although, again the breadcrumb topping was on the verge (not quite) of burned. I don't mind, it WAS late, and the dish was tasty. That's just a nitpick. I will try again, and I will get the Panino - as it was calling my name and I didn't listen. But I will next time ....

The view is definitely worth the trek... but I was a little shocked at the prices. I mean... shouldn't happy hour leave your wallet happy too?! The happy hour food menu has some good grub - I would recommend the panini with grilled onions and butternut squash. The cheese plate was a tad small though - maybe the perfect size for mice? The service was completely respectable, and everyone was generally jovial. They even accommodated one of our orders that was off the menu. The large booths were also a huge plus - I need my personal "bubble" space.

Reservations made thru Yelp. Easy and convenient since I made the reservations same day. Food was good. My table had the Trout/Kale/Lentils and a plate of Mussels. Drinks decent. The service was ok..Nothing to rave about but also no complaints. The view was great on a crisp fall night!

Love Noble Rot! Amazing East Side view of the river and downtown. Incredible fresh, superbly spiced food. The drinks are to die for, original creations with fresh herbs and juices. Good wine selection, and I always appreciate a wine flight option, which they have. Love the friendly knowledgable staff and the cool grown up atmosphere. What a great spot, especially for date night and happy hour.

I really wanted to love this place. Upon entering I was digging the vibe and the view, but the food fell short for me and the pours were skimpy. Started with the cheese plate - very good. Butter lettuce salad was great, but a little pricey at $9 for a simple salad. Our server suggested the cod entree and I was very underwhelmed. At $29 for a piece of cod I want to be full and happy. I was not. The dish just didn't hit the mark for me. When I walk away after signing a $180 tab for 2 I'd like to be stuffed, satisfied and dying to go back. Unfortunately, I found myself wanting to dial up an order of fries from the hotel room service. Sigh.

While visiting Portland and the Willamette Valley on a recent business trip, Noble Rot came highly recommended by a local friend, and it did not disappoint! We liked it so much that we took friends there at the end of the week! The wine selections are top notch and well thought out. Our entrees both nights were fantastic. As everybody says, if it's a nice evening request a table on the patio! Go and enjoy!

This is a staple in my book although I have watch the mac and cheese price go from $7 to $12 ?!??! Perhaps worth it for the view alone of the city on their deck! Reservations on sunny, clear days a must! Their Noble Rot salad is like a whole endive head with blue cheese and hazelnuts. Also recommend the onion tart. Staple date and out of town place.

I really want to give them 4 stars, but the hostess...I'm so over snotty blonde hostesses that are bored to be alive and clearly above their job. I don't understand why restaurants put up with it. Why would anyone let their customer experience start with the disdain of a dim whited twit? The food was good and the drinks interesting, if not a bit pricy. I don't have anything else to say on the matter.

4 stars is definitely for the view; if it were in another space it wouldn't merit more than 3. Good food, but nothing that you couldn't get at another place in town, but definitely a better than average wine selection. Very friendly staff. A place I'd take out of town guests to show off Portland; sit out on the balcony

Modern natural food. If your not a wine drinker this is not a 5 star as the menu is short. Our group of 6 shared 4 bottles and the salmon was perfect.

Went here tonight for drinks with a friend! Loved the view and decor! Great service! Got the cheese platter & onion tart (both sooo good!) We shared a couple flights of wine and ended with a delicious new dessert they are offering called Peanut Butter & Jelly. (Peanut butter ice cream on a warm bread pudding with homemade strawberry sauce (from their garden) NOM!

Great east side view! The staff is pretty friendly and the bartender is super cool. This place also has applejack which is apparently really tough to find in this town. They have some killer drinks here folks and the menu isn't bad. I could live without the clientele most nights but then again I could say that about so many places. Dear Portland, grow cooler people. K thx.

I dropped in here a few nights ago as my first stop on a swanky night on the town. The view was awesome and the atmosphere was cozy and hip. It's a great spot for a date. We each ordered a flight of 3 pinots and the selections were interesting and delicious. We also ordered some fries as an appetizer, the obvious classy choice for wine tasting. They were really good. Crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. We didn't get to try the dinner as we had reservations elsewhere, but everything looked delicious. Overall, Noble Rot made a good first impression. I'll definitely have to go back and try the entrees.

Ok seriously restaurant of the year in 2003? I don't no what happened but I won't be back. Started with the cheese plate which was good, the bread was a bit dry? perhaps they cut it too early. Hubby ordered the cod and I the ham and cheese panino. Saturday night the place was busy and the view is great. Waiter was polite but maybe had a few too many tables as we waited a bit for everything. My "sandwich" was good but i must say i prefer Grand Central or Laurelhurst if I am going to have a sandwich. It came with a salad but they had way too many onions on it. While it is attractive piled high with full leaves of lettuce it is impossible to eat without a knife and the waiter took mine with the cheese plate. Had he come back to check on the food I would have asked for one... Hubby said the cod was good. Portion size on the fish was small (this is a plus for me btw I hate large portions). As I ate only half my sandwich and no salad we decided to give the desert a try. Bad Decision. The flourless chocolate cake was to quote an earlier review "Duncan Hines, Pillsbury or Betty Crocker like" plus it had some nut brittle that was so burnt I couldn't get the taste out of my mouth without brushing my teeth. We also ordered the Plum brown butter cake which was overcooked and dry. Maybe the chef is having a bad day? As we walked out my husband almost bumped into an overworked waitress, the annoyed look with heavy sigh and eye roll convinced us we will never return. Bummer. I would give you 1 star but as I cannot comment on the wine bar but i will say it looked impressive and again the view is great. Eat before you go or limit yourself to the cheese as they just cut that up. At 75 bucks there are a lot of better places in portland i can spend that kind of money.

This review would be 5 stars based on the food and atmosphere and service. It is one of our mainstay places to take out of town guests and go for a wonderful late-night meal. Some food is so local it is grown on the roof. Leather (the Chef) is almost unerring in his flavor combinations, which are creative. Especially wonderful are soups and salads. The portions are not large, but they are adequate. Wine is well-chosen. A stand out is their well water- which exemplifies the sustainable theme. The view over the city canot be beaten. A little less great are the cocktails, which is sad given the excellence of the restaurant. Stick with the wine and have a 5 star experience. Get a cocktail and it drops to 3.5.

Went here with some friends and my lover for a night out (friends treated). I had the lamb with falafel which was actually quite tasty. And I tasted the scallops which were very good. The place is nice, the views are great, but the prices just dont justify it all. The entrees were around the $25+ mark. I just think its too steep for Portland. If they'd lower the prices I'd return, otherwise, not on my dime.

Not impressed at all with the food. A few things were O.K. but when the billed tallied up the quality of the experience became even more suspect. I also thought the staff were under dressed, it looked pretty trashy for a such swanky joint. Wine and appetizers on a clear night for the view, but don't waste your coin on buying dinner here.

We had an amazing night. Packed to the gills, but our server never rushed us during our 58 questions about the menu and wine list. We got 6 entree's without a dud in the bunch. Very, very good.

Awesome burger. In Portland? It's true. Squirt on tap. Supposedly it tastes better because they have some fancy well. And the brownie was fantastic.

This is a nice place to come and have wine and appetizers. The selection of wine is good, and the wine flights we had were great. We also had a nice (large) salad and a really good cheese plate to accompany the wine. The dinner menu didn't really appeal, though, and we went to a restaurant to eat. Also, it was winter, so the big windows were not open. The nice, big comfortable booth we were in would be even better during a warm summer evening when everything is opened up.

The atmosphere was great. The view is great. The service left a lot to be desired, even as we sat at the bar. The bartender couldn't remember our order and asked us to repeat it more than once. The prices were rather up there. The cheese plate was nice, as was the wine flight I had. I might return if I wanted to meet up for drinks with a gal pal.

This was my first time at Noble Rot. I loved the atmosphere and city views. Had a great glass of Rose wine, which is not easy to find outside of France. My dinner was just OK (house salad and a panini). I will definitely come back.

This is a great place to go on a beautiful day. It is on the 4th floor and overlooks Portland. I went with a couple other people for happy hour. A couple of us ordered the house shiraz. It was ok. What can I expect for $3.50 per glass. I ordered the ChaCha. It was delicious. The other person ordered a vodka cran. The cran tastes like they use fresh cran juice. Much better than the average cranberry juice used. All of us had the happy hour burger. I rarely eat beef but this was worth it. It was delicious.

My hubby and I stopped in here for some drinks and a small plate before hitting up a Yelp event. I had wanted to go here for a while as I've heard the views were epic. We sat at the bar because the patio was full, which I was initially bummed about. But I was happy to find that the geniuses who designed the joint placed a huge mirror that runs the length of the wall behind the bar, allowing for an awesome view without even having to turn around. The bartenders had awesome personalities and were happy to recommend a wine flight and help me decide on a small plate. The green bean salad may sound simple but it was exploding with flavor and was SO fresh. It could have something to do with that roof garden that supplies the restaurant with much of it's herbs and veggies. I can't wait to come back for some sips and grub!

My boyfriend and I went to Noble Rot on our anniversary. The service was great and the food was amazing. I loved the view of the city and their Moscow mule was quite memorable; it was served with a lime infused ice cube! If it wasn't so pricy, I would be a regular customer. Unfortunately, I can't afford to eat there unless it is a special occasion or something along those lines.

I took my girlfriend out for dinner and a bottle of wine. An excuse to dress up really. Reservations were easy to obtain. Point of fact, I made the reservation through YELP! and it only took about 1 minute. We arrived and were promptly seated near the window. Our waitress was very courteous. I asked for the driest bottle of white wine they had. She delivered just that. The menue is small. Very small. Veeeeeeeeery small. But what they do have on it is tasty and done well. One does not go here for the food. It's more of a drinks & chat type place if you ask me. You should go here at least once. Don't let my 3 star rating fool you. If it was simply a bar I'd give it 5. But since the food is so limited, I have to rate it a 3. Oh yes. The dessert's here are delicious. Have the chocolate brownie with caramel and vanilla ice-cream. Great ambiance, fantastic view, superb staff.

I've been to Noble Rot twice now and the ambiance is quite wonderful. They have a patio area where you can see all of Portland and prices (for drinks) isn't too bad. The second time I went there, we ate dinner and the appetizer was good (cheese plate) but the main entree wasn't too great. The price was high and the quality of food did not live up to the prices. I would go there for drinks but not to eat. They have a lot of different flights to try out (highly recommend) Their chairs are very comfortable. Noble Rot is a great place to take your friends and catch up. This place would have gotten a 5 but I wasn't a fan of the food so a 4 will do =)

We went out for drinks and snacks with our Vegan friends the other evening. Don't get me wrong, I'm not slamming their dietary choices, but it does make it challenging to find a place that has something everyone can enjoy on the menu. I am also sensitive to their sensitivities, so I'll go veggie when we're out together. I mean, I'm not going to sit there and chow down on a plate of chicken wings while they only have a bowl of peanuts to pick at. That would be rude--hilarious, but rude. Noble Rot did not have any Vegan friendly entrees on their menu. (There were several meaty ones that I'm going to go back to try.) They did have some appetizers that worked, so we decided to just go for the little plates. Our friends asked the waitress if they could make one of the dishes without cheese, and she explained that they were pre-constructed in the morning, so it couldn't be done. No biggie. We weren't complaining. When the waitress delivered the appetizers and our drinks, she told us that the chef wanted to prepare a special Vegan entree for us, if we so desired. Wow, we weren't expecting that. Of course, we accepted the offer. While we waited for the food, we enjoyed our unique drinks. So many places go nutso with the "signature" cocktails. They toss in everything but the kitchen sink and the result often tastes like Kool-aid with a splash of paint thinner. Not so at Noble Rot. The drinks were exceptionally well-crafted and quite delicious. We also enjoyed the spectacular view of the city from the enclosed patio. The sky was clear and the sunset was beautiful. The chef, an affable fellow named Leather, delivered his special dish to our table in person. The plating was absolutely gorgeous--like something straight out of Iron Chef. It looked so good, I didn't want to eat it. It was made primarily from rounds of grilled squash, stacked with oyster mushrooms, atop a beet puree and some kind of fava bean pesto. There were roasted beets and greens from the rooftop garden on there, too. Delicious! Leather also prepared us a special Vegan dessert with candied strawberries and mango. Awesome! We felt like VIP special guests instead of annoying people with picky eating habits. The service was excellent, too. Very friendly and spot on. We always had fresh drinks when we wanted them and they are obviously willing to go far above and beyond the call of duty to make sure their guests have a good time. Noble Rot has an up-scale, modern ambiance but there is no snooty 'tude. This was truly one of the best dining experiences I've ever had--EVER. We'll definitely be back soon!

The Noble salad is awesome - a huge stack of butter lettuce with light dressing and pine nuts. Some of the dinner dishes are on the pricey side, but if you mind that, then stick to burgers/sandwiches. They are just the same cost as other places in town. Beautiful view, great happy hour!

This is a go to spot for me and my husband. The food is always good and the service is great. The burger and noble salad are definitely favorites. It's a really nice change of pace to have an amazing view of downtown Portland while enjoying a nice meal. Hands down one of my favorite restaurants in town. I highly recommend making reservations! It'll save you a headache.

This place gets two stars because of the balcony. That's what everyone talks about, and that's what this place has going for it. Beyond that, I can't recommend it. Drinks and food were OK, but certainly nothing to write home about, and definitely not at those prices. Noble Rot is the kind of place that is talked up by youngish to still-trying-to-stay-youngish white people who make fairly good money, but who are painfully mainstream. Yes, that's a judgment I'm making, which I try not to do, but my experience here just screamed "We (owners, servers, bartenders, customers) think this place is really hip and edgy, and better than you unless you look at least as 'good' as we do" (good being defined, again, as painfully mainstream, but in whatever way youngish, well paid, white people who generally live in the burbs think is trendy these days). Getting the picture? You've got ordinary mainstream, and then you've got places like Noble Rot that think they're trendy (and are viewed as trendy by a certain set of people) because they've broken out of the mold and dared to go where every other mainstream place that's designed for youngish, white people has gone. No real originality, but a lot of attitude that thinks its really original. If you show up looking remotely edgy in any actual sense (defined here as something not painfully mainstream) you will be viewed as worthy of contempt by many of the clientele and employees because you are clearly socially retarded, and - bless you - you've tried to pull off hip and trendy, but failed spectacularly. Now if you'll just take your cues from them, maybe you can avoid being looked at like a freak next time. And just maybe you'll be able to climb that corporate ladder...

My husband and I LOVE Noble Rot. The cocktails are fresh and the food changes all the time. The ambiance is very good. We typically sit at the bar but we have sat outside and enjoyed the view over SW Portland. The rooftop garden offers a freshness to the food that I really appreciate. Soups are always to die for. Peanut butter and jelly for desert is a must.

This is one of my favorite restaurants in Portland. My husband and I have been regulars since they were on their Ankeny location (where Coalition Brewery is now) and mourned when they left the neighborhood. But we still go and even look forward to the walk up 4 flights of stairs to culinary delight! Two standouts on their appetizer menu: THE ONION TART - omg get this!!! The Noble Salad - AMAZING Their burger is quite good and actually makes this place super affordable to pop into casually. In fact my new favorite thing is to pop in here, sit at the bar, order a drink and a burger, and really enjoy the cheap tab at the end. But if you are looking for a more substantial meal, you can get it here. You can enjoy flights of wine, port, cognac, etc. and delight yourself with course after course of amazing food. DO IT. You won't be sorry!

Yes, I gave only 3 stars.... The place was gorgeous when we walked in, the view of downtown Portland was the first I noticed thru those huge picturesque windows. Definately has the "wow" factor! The booths of white leather and concrete window seals complimented the chocolate colored walls perfectly. I liked the place already....but the staff was a bit on the trendy, hipster side, just meh service, nothing outstanding. We only had a few glasses of wine, we caught the tail end of happy hour. My bubbly Limencello was very tasty.. the smells coming from the kitchen were intriguing, more so than the actual menu, but it was not enough for us to order any of the food this time around. Cool music, gorgeous views of the city, but a bit on the hipster/trendy side for me to be a regular.

The best part about Noble Rot is the amazing view you get. If it's a nice day, and its usually not, try to sit out on the roof top to enjoy the amazing views of Portland! I like that this place is super into serving fresh, clean food. I applaud them for trying to keep its patrons healthy while satisfying their palate as well. I go here for the ambiance and the drinks, its a very intimate and cozy atmosphere here. However, I personally did not really fancy any of the things on the menu. I just had a butternut squash sandwich, which had decent flavors but I was not in love with it. The selection is definitely interesting but just not my style of fooding. I'll be back though because I enjoy the drinks and the overall vibe of this spot.

Great view, GREAT staff, super attentive and on top of it. We had a very large party that went from 9 to 14 on short notice on a Saturday....The wait staff didn't even hint that it was a pain (although Im sure it was....). We stayed without pressure to get out of there, the staff was super on top of it and all around really great time.

We wanted a glass of wine on a friday. Noble Rot fit the bill. We enjoy the rare view of Portland's skyline from an Eastside location. The specials on the food menu were surprisingly good & creative. 8/20/2010

Fourt floor swanky, sleek and modern bar area opens up to a covered deck/balcony with fantastic views of downtown Portland. Cozy vibe with predominantly well heeled, young clientele. I had the grilled cheese with cheddar, ham and mango chutney - I could have done with less ham but it was otherwise tasty. I wasn't particulrly adventurous on the cocktail menu, but the Tom Collins I did order was spot on - not too sweet, not too boozy, light & refreshing. Happy to have happened upon this unexpected find during my one night sojourn in PDX.

I enjoyed a fabulous dinner at Noble Rot this week while visiting Portland for a work trip. I was treating a friend to a belated birthday dinner and the restaurant came highly recommended by my chiropractor of all people! I made reservations for two through Open Table. I was running late and called ahead to let them know - they informed me they wouldn't hold the table longer than 30 minutes which is typical of highly regarded and well-frequented establishments. Fortunately when we arrived, there were plenty of tables and we probably got even better seating than if we'd shown up on time. My companion isn't old enough to order from the wine selections but I enjoyed a very nice flight of three Willamette Valle - Oregon Pinot Noirs: Evesham Wood, 2009 Brooks, 2008 Runaway Red The Eyrie Vineyards, 2008 They were all very different from each other and paired well with the meal. The Evesham was my favorite! For an appetizer we started out with the cheese plate which had generous selections of five cheeses varying in strength. Delicious! This also came with a healthy amount of bread. We also had a bean salad - manchego, roasted red peppers, a yummy sherry vinaigrette and perfect size for sharing. The beans were from the roof-top garden and as with all home grown veggies, you could taste the difference. For entrees we shared the grilled butternut squash, caramelized onions and goat cheese panini and the eggplant, tomato & squash gratin with basil aioli. Both were full of unique flavors and we savored each bite. For desert we shared the creme broulee which was the perfect ending to a fabulous meal. The decor, view and ambiance of this place is great. There is outdoor seating for an even more amazing fourth floor view of downtown Portland. Unfortunately there was a large group having dinner beside us and became quite loud and obnoxious but it didn't deter us from enjoying our conversation, meal and wine.

5 stars for ambiance, 3.5 stars for food/value. As picturesque a setting as it gets, on a 4th floor rooftop balcony at dusk, seeing the 4th of July fireworks over the Portland waterfront. We were in a party of 5 (I consider myself the Matthew Fox of the group...in my head. Anyone getting the Party of 5 reference? Good.), and we all ordered drinks and appetizers, as well as main courses. Reviews on the drinks were mixed, but I liked mine, which is all I really care about. Appetizers were good, we had a duck breast app, a cheese plate and something else I'm forgetting. For my entree I got a steak, my wife had the mac and cheese. Both entrees were good, but not legendary. We also had a dessert that was good, but the main thing obviously was the company we were with, and the views are stunning. It's worth going there just for drinks to sit on the patio and watch the sunset. Definitely recommend.

Wine with a view? Yes Please! Beautiful bar, cozy full wrap around booths and a swank view atop the fourth floor patio. Late night menu is perfect with a glass of wine and good company to go along with the stellar view looking west to the sun setting over the west hills of our lovely city. I'd like to mention there is also an element of gawking down below to the street level of east Burnside. It's a fun place for a late night glass of wine, or cocktail I imagine. Wind down and watch the sun set on these long summer days of Portland with some good company and good food & drink. I'll definitely be back for more. Cheers!

We were a twosome celebrating my wife's birthday on a fairly busy Saturday night. Both of our cocktails (Mia Farrow and Crux of the Matter) were fun and excellent. Our onion rings appetizer was solid. The rib eye steak was prepared perfectly, tasted great and the potatoes and veggies on the plate with it were perfect. Very good. Unfortunately I can't say the same thing about the nightly special of grilled lamb shoulder. For the first time in my life I sent something back - the meat tasted rancid to me. To NR's credit they handled the situation very well. They explained that the dish did taste as intended (gamey) but if I was not satisfied with it they'd remove it from the bill and let us order another entree. I appreciated that. We ordered the halibut, which was served over greens, a tasty clear broth and a crunchy element that I couldn't quite make out. It was very good, nice and light. One hiccup was that they missed my request to do something for the wife's birthday. But after a little embarrassment over sending the dish back I didn't want to ask about that. I also loved the space with the views of the city. Although there were a few misses, the restaurant is obviously very good and we will be back.

My original rating was 5 stars. However; last night I was left feeling let down by the service. The food was still good and our server did fine, but upon entering with a home made cake I was told there would be a $15 "cake fee". Corkage fee? Fine. No problem. But our birthday girl is highly allergic to pecans and wanted a German Chocolate cake. I doubt the restaurant could or would have accommodated. I refused to cut the cake and pay the $15 - on principal. After spending 30 minutes trying to figure out our bill at the end (because they will not do separate checks), our group discovered we'd overpaid (after the 18% gratuity) about $15. Unsure who put in too much money, we decided to use it for the "cake fee" after all. I felt bad for the few guests who'd purchased $5 desserts prior, but being the gluttons they were, they ate cake anyway. There are plenty of restaurants in town that will give separate checks, so I am at a loss as to how separating a large groups checks differs from separating all the smaller tables checks around them. Funny how there is an enforced 18% gratuity on the tables that get the least service. Needless to say, I may be back for happy hour, but I probably wouldn't bring a large group back for dinner.

I've always had a warm spot for this place, but tonight's service was a disappointment. Our food arrived after 45 min ... cold. Not a good thing for a pasta special, which did taste good after it was reheated. Didn't ask how. The unfortunate part was that the server was really unpleasant about it, which made for a less than happy experience. We left without ordering dessert.

Best meal I have had in a long time. We started with olives and a cheese plate. I had the lamb and my husband had the new york steak. The salad the occompanies my lamb was amazing. It was a feta, beet and carrot salad that was so full of flavor that I awwed and oooed after every bite. We also sampled three of the wine flights. The Willamette Valley Pinot flight is my favorite. I will be back here for every special occasion and any excuse I can come up with to have another party with my olfactory and taste buds. Amazing service with knowledgeable staff for the not-so-knowledgeable wine/port drinker. Noble Rot, you are now queened my favorite restaurant.

Noble Rot got the honor of being my last happy hour in Portland before I moved back to California. We arrived just at the beginning of happy hour (literally an hour, from 5-6pm) and it was impressive how much of a view they could get for being on the 4th floor. I guess Portland is generally pretty flat, so even the 4th floor is pretty high! All the drinks specials on the happy hour menu looked good, and thankfully there were 4 of us, so we got one of each. I think my favorite one was the vodka with pomegranate and mint...don't remember the name, but it was like a mojito. The sangria, lemon drop, and bubbly were yummy too. I got a burger, which ended up being half the size of my face...it was one tall burger. =P Delicious though! It did strike me kinda funny that they asked me how I wanted my burger...I've grown up learning in school (as I was a science major) that you should never eat ground beef in any way but well done. Maybe they've got super antibacterial practices here or something...who knows, but I went well-done on my burger just in case. Love the ambiance here, I'd definitely recommend this one again. I much prefer staying on the East side for happy hour...parking is so much easier!

Drove right by it but once I found it and got upstairs, I was impressed. Nice atmosphere, big round booths for groups, candles, and great view back towards downtown. Next time I would request window table looking towards downtown. Wine flights were tasty, had almonds & olives at bar, all was good. Got seated at our table, server timing was appropriate, ordered salads. I got the endive beet blue cheese. Tasty but WAY overdressed, not what I was expecting. Dinner came before were done with salad so that was awkward. My cousin had daily pasta (small portion on this child size bowl I must say), I got the pork shoulder. Both our dinners were overly salty, borderline inedible. My pork was fatty and had weird sauce on top, current pilaf was gross and the carrot riata salad was bland. For $140 for two I expect more. I'll give them one more try as maybe it was sous chef screwing up, and my cousin has been there before and said it had been much better.

We were visiting from Seattle and we found this place through OpenTable. We had a fairly late reservation and the place was full but not loud. The view and atmosphere were great, as was the service. I also liked the comfy booth. The food was really good, but not necessarily memorable. I had the butternut squash, caramelized onion, and goat cheese panini and my husband had the short ribs. Both of us liked our meal, but weren't totally wowed. All in all, would go back here for the view, the wine, and the great service. Oh, and the cheese plate was incredible.

I just get so tired of being cold all the time, and this place keeps me nice and toasty. And that's BEFORE I started drinking wine... The wine list is pretty decent. The prices are about what you'd expect. They might be a touch on the pricey side, but like I said, I expect that. They do offer flights where you get a 2oz pour of 3 different wines. So it's fun if you want to try a few things. The food was okay. I had a burger, and fries. The fries were like McDonalds, and the burger was very average. At least it was cooked to order, so that was nice. The decor is great. One thing I really like about this place is the feel. It's welcoming and just a tough fancy w/o making you feel like you're out of place wearing jeans. The lighting is perfect - not too bright, not too dim. The dude behind the bar was nice enough. Not exactly on top of it, but not below it either. Overall just about average. I guess I would expect more for the price that I have to pay... It's definitely worth a visit, but with 2 people, 2 glasses of wine each and some food - you're looking at dropping about $80. And we were kinda conservative.

Fun location, good staff, salt, great fondness and knowledge of wines. The food(salt) has promise of good ingredients and thoughtful presentation, but almost everything except desserts way, way way over-salted. Did I mention salt? That is almost all I remember. Such a wasted opportunity.

I think this place LOOKS cool, has a nice view, has this great concept of a rooftop garden...but the service and food left my group pretty disappointed.

Friendly to both hipsters and non alike. Great service, attentive to keeping a cold drink in front of me. The food is excellent, there are always a few unique items on the menu, always surprised by how good they can make simple things and how the more complicated items work well with my simple tastes...the patio has one of the best views in all of Portland (best on the eastside for sure)...i need to get back here it has been too long!

On the plus side, they accommodated a large group reservation with only 24 hours notice. Although our waiter was really nice, the service was pretty terrible, especially when they told us we only had 15 minutes for dessert, so we felt like we were being kicked out. My dish was good, however a couple of people in our group sent food back to the kitchen. I feel like I can get a great lamb dish AND excellent service somewhere else.

My wife and I arrived at opening on a Thursday. We were quickly seated, served drinks and appetizers, then nothing. We had to flag another server for a second round and had to flag the receptionist to get our check. The food was good, the drinks OK, and the service atrocious.

Wow, what an upgrade from the old hipster location near 28th St. The new restaurant has a simply awesome design. Such a cool blend of materials, colors and light. All the food we ordered was top-notch. Entrees were reasonably priced too. FYI - they take reservations only for groups of 6 or larger. Oh, and I liked the variety of music they were playing and that it was at a volume that did not overwhelm our conversation. JP and I started with the potato leek soup. Extremely delicious and original. It came with little cubes of baked potato and collard greens in a heavenly sauce. I ordered the halibut. A great piece of fish with a garlic basil crust. It came on a bed of (apparently) canned corn in a absolutely delicious sauce (that more than made up for the fact that the corn was canned). JP had the sturgeon. It was about as good as the halibut. We wondered if it came from the Columbia River. Joe had the pork shoulder that was delicious and extremely tender. Rich, who was especially snarky tonight, had a pasta dish that looked and tasted great. For dessert, JP had a clever dessert named "Apple Carl Sagan" that came with pralined ice cream ringed by a cracker (that made me think of the planet Saturn) and a spiced apple compote. Very good. Rich and I both went with the piping hot chocolate brownie with vanilla ice cream. Damn near the best brownie I have ever had. Joe had a glass of Rocha port for dessert. JP also had a Pocas Ruby port with his dessert. I found it a bit too sweet for my liking. The only real minus on the evening were my martinis. But that actually might have been a positive because I did learn more about liquor. I like Tangeray with a splash of Cointreau and a twist. My first martini was made with Tangeray but the splash of Cointreau was more of a dash than a splash. So knowing that, I ordered my second martini with a "heavy" splash. What I got was a drink where either the Tangeray or the Cointreau had been substituted with something else. I told the waitress (a cool gal that had the calm demeanor of an accountant) about my drink and she checked with the bartender. She remarked that I had a sensitive palate. Apparently, they had run out of Cointreau and had substituted something called "orange curacao" and they didn't think I would notice. I noticed. After dinner we went outside on the balcony to take pictures that would take advantage of the great downtown view. Unfortunately, I don't think the radiant heaters they have on the edge of the balcony's ceiling made a tinker's damn of a difference in heating the area, especially with that ubiquitous cold Columbia Gorge wind blowing into town last night. But on the whole, we had a great time, and I love the new and improved Noble Rot.

What a perfect place. Noble Rot is extremely romantic - the sunset views from the balcony are incredible. The food is terrific, local, clever and with good portions. The wine was amazing. And the staff has always been attentive without being obsequeous, and just the right amount of energy, and quite knowledgable. I highly, highly recommend a visit.

Fantastic spot for scenery, drinks and food. They have a salad with grilled peaches, mustard greens and goat cheese was so good that I had it before dinner and then we split another for dessert.

Made a reservation day of on a Saturday. Got sat at an awkward table to which my friend asked us to be moved to a window seat. Ordered drinks and onion rings. The onion rings were GREAT! We ordered entree's and more cocktails. And waited. And waited. Finally we asked about our cocktails and ordered more onion rings. The 2nd order of onion rings came, and finally they brought our second round of drinks. Entree's were M.I.A. We asked about our entree's (again) and finally they showed up. My friend had asked for a cheeseburger plain and I ordered the razor clam special. She received a over-salted cheeseburger with no bun but all the fixin's. I received over cooked razor clams (3 for $25) and a burnt black rice patty with under cooked greens. Both the burger and the rice patty were over salted and, my rice patty was also burnt (understand that maybe the cook would have a hard time telling when it's done due to the originating color.) Very disappointing! My friend was in town from L.A. and I had chosen this place for the view and atmosphere. Those were both up to par however, I'm shocked at how much the kitchen and front of house missed the mark. Coupled with the fact that we got lousy service (from the G.M. apparently) I made a complaint. We were excited to try the Creme Brulee but after our experience we left as our expectations were low. They did comp our food however, since this was a special meal with a friend from out of town, it didn't matter much. It was never about the money.... That being said, I will try this place again, just not on a weekend night. Maybe the everyone can get it right when they aren't so busy.

I am not sure they can list this as a wine bar. They never presented us with a wine list, other than the small one on the menu, or boasted about the wine they had. It was a good restaurant that had three wine flights. Both my wife and I enjoyed our time here. The place has great ambiance. The booths were great for us to snuggle up in and it looked great for a group of friends. The view was nice. The food was good. The onion ring were light and crisp, not greasy at all. My wife had the soup, greens and potato. I tried it and the flavors were wonderful. The rib eye was perfectly cooked, but a little under seasoned. My wife wasn't impressed with the mac and cheese. I thought it had to much bread crumb topping and lacked a good cheese flavor. The service was pretty damn good, Helpful and attentive without feeling like they were trying to get us out for the next group.

Why you should go there - Beautiful night views of entire west Portland, downtown, OHSU, the lights sparkling in the hills. Beautiful. Perfect for a romantic date for two. Also, you get to sample flights of wines, which is cool if you want a sampler. Why you shouldn't go there - Kind of pricey, and food is so so. If you want to the best desserts or onion rings, or even small finger foods, there are far better places. Unless you're a doctor and can shell out the dough. The diners all seemed pretty trendy and well-healed. So, if you're looking for a laid back atmosphere, this may not be for you. Verdict - I think it's a cool place to have a small gathering or a romantic place to take your date.

Outside, on the patio, with the sunset and three wonderful friends, I had a most spectacular dinner with glorious Oregon Pinot Noir! The friends got it on with the various vodkas but I thought they were missing out! Sarah was our server and she did her job well. She made excellent suggestions and wasted no time executing delivery of each course until we left giggling and sated! The creme brulee was a wonderful finish! The view of the Portland summer sunset was spectacular and made the evening that much more beautiful! Noble Rot will be a regular stop from now on.

The service here was wonderful. I called with a reservation a week ahead, and ended up having to change it a couple of times, and they were more than willing and happy to accomodate. The wine was great. I had the pinot noir flight and then ordered a glass of the Love and Squalor pinot; oh so good. Ordered the cheese plate for an appetizer, and the server came around on her own and noticed we were out of bread and brought more so we could finish our cheese. Those little details are big in my book. The cheese was yummy! Dinner was where I wasn't so amazed. I had the butternut squash and goat cheese panino with carmelized onions. It wasn't that it was bad, it just wasn't anything special. This is mostly the reason for the 3 stars. A friend ordered the grilled pork and said it was "alright". Compared with the price of things, it just didn't seem up to par. The location is awesome! The view was beautiful, and walking up to the building you don't see how it could be possible to have a city view but it delivers on this promise! This would be a nice romantic date night, but I do recommend making a reservation if it's on a weekend. Place was full. All in all, a cool place but could work on the food a bit.

Beautiful view, absolutely breath taking, very romantic. I almost gave it a two because it was just your ordinary dining experience, nothing stands out but then again I only ate the burger. The menu was boring. The interior Design inside was awesome, the outside...well I sat in a plastic chair hahaha. But again the view made up for it. The salad that came with my burger was so good I actually ate with my fingers (it was a whole leaf salad so I just rolled it up and ate it the lazy no manners way...I know right!!) Oh, and the onion rings were delicious!! I didn't try any wine because I am not the biggest wine fan, sorry, I know thats the point of this place but...

The main downside is the small size of the place and no reservations unless you have a really large group. Awesome views - last night was clear and the city lights were great to see along with the red nose on the Made in Oregon sign. Have been here twice in the last month. One time for dessert and a flight of dessert drinks. Excellent brownie with ice cream and they are very generous on their flights. Last night for dinner with the family. They have fun American food with a little twist. They dress it up but don't make it so far out there that you can't enjoy it. Everything was fresh and very tasty. Everyone loved the onion tart. I would put their burger as one of the best in Portland and they even offer you catchup! The fries were excellent - I ate too many of them. Another flight of Spanish white wines. All five us were able to have a couple of sips of all of them. The waitress was very down to earth and helpful. It's not a snooty trendy bar at all. The atmosphere may be trendy but the place is pure Portland. I look forward to summer again when I can try out the patio and see the view in the daylight.

What an amazing experience! My husband and I haven't been to Noble Rot in a while, and this time around proved to be such a fantastic experience, I had to write about it. Although I wished we could have sat outside, c'est la vie! Our server (Joni? Josi?) was quick and amicable, suggesting a wine flight when I just couldn't make up my mind. What a great idea! I was able to sample varieties from different regions and when I asked our server about them, she had all the answers. Tip of my hat to Noble Rot's always educated staff. I started with the endive salad, and the blue cheese dressing was creamy, thick and flavorful, but not enough to overpower the crispness of the salad, which was fresh and clean. For dinner, I got the salmon on the servers suggestion. It was served over a bed of mixed veggies, ones I never thought would go well together, like okra and corn. But the salmon proved a perfect tie-together for the veggies. It was cooked to perfection, light, with not too much of that "fishy" taste. I relied on my server once again to make the proper wine pairing for the salmon, and the wine she suggested was a pinot noir from the northwest! She said she had been doing some research and that a light pinot noir will not overpower most foods, and that they do not usually have large amounts of tannins. It proved to be an excellent match for the salmon, one I may never have tried. Thank you! No room for desert, but you can bet we will be back again sooner than later. Do yourselves a favor and enjoy a meal here, the staff is super friendly, the food amazing, and if you can get a table outside, the view incredible. Thank you Joni or Josi for making our night a memorable one!

Nice tables, friendly service. Main course of steak was expensive for the amount of meat served. It came lukewarm. Upon bringing the plate back to our table the meat was overcooked. The mac n cheese appetizer was good. Pricey experience though.

We came specifically for happy hour (5-6). I wasn't really sure what to expect, all I knew was that it supposedly had one of the best views of Portland. We arrive and easily find parking on the street. Walk up to the building and pretty easily figure out it is upstairs (or elevator) on the top floor. The building is a touch funky but mostly non-descript. First impression - nice staff, really cool set up and space, AMAZING VIEW... So far so good... We get seated on the balcony. Food takes a bit to arrive but we did arrive right at opening and the place almost immediately filled up. Waitress is adorbs and super helpful and attentive... Like'n it.. Food arrives, tasty tasty. Portions for a happy hour are quite filling. Not the best mac-and-cheese I have every had but definitely up there, especially considering the price tag. My husbands burger which I nibbled was HUGE and delish. My best friend got the cheese platter which was quite good. Based solely on the food, I'd definitely come back. View keeps getting better and better as the sun starts to go down a bit. THEN, we notice there is an rooftop garden - we decide to ask if we can check it out. SHWING. 20 minutes later we are up on the roof getting a tour of the garden. WHICH by the way is where they get quite a bit of their produce (even their mint for drinks). Seeing the garden itself was an amazing experience on it's own. 3 people ate for under $40. NOT BAD.

  • Carlie P.

The wine was great, nice atmosphere and view...but the food not so much at all. The server was nice and attentive, but the pasta was really undercooked along with the potatoes. The pork shoulder was really dry and needed something besides the plate of cabbage. Maybe a reduction of some kind. Overall food preperation was terrible for this type of place. I say stick to the mac and cheese or the burger. I probably will only return when I want some wine and cheese.

Freezer Fries? Really? Really? You have all this expensive sh*t, all this fancy wine, and you pour your potatoes from a plastic bag...really? Pleaze. I don't even remember what I ate here. So, meh. Butt, butt, butt -- awesome rooftop view. I'd go here for a drink and the view then beat it out of there in a jiffy.

Great view, good food, interesting cocktails, god awful service. I'm not sure if our waitress was doing the absolute minimum possible because she had guaranteed gratuity from our larger party, or if she was just generally awful...but she was slow and inattentive. She would disappear for chunks of time, didn't mention the specials until everyone had already decided on their entrees, and really put a spoil on the evening. Also, as much as I love olives- their olive appetizer is so not worth $4. The onion rings on the other hand are amazingly crispy and buttery.

Went for an early dinner and were welcomed with a lovely booth near the back of the restaurant. Our server brought us each bourbons with a one inch cube of ice....yay! We had decided on our salads and main course so asked Kristen to help us choose an appropriate glass each of wine for our different meals...she perked up and really gave us a thoughtful answer. I was having the Sole with leeks and tarragon and lemony gnocci - a new item i hear. Well, she picked a perfect white Sylvaner from the Alto Adige region of N. Italy. My boyfriend went with the NY Steak and she picked a Cote du Rhone that worked well. I can tell you I was sad to finish my meal...it was that good! We had obscure dessert wines later and were in heaven. Thanks to this lovely haven we had a comfy and delicious meal. We'll be back again!

Love this place. I go here often when I'm up visiting the folks and have never been disappointed. Food is consistently interesting, fresh and mouthwatering, drinks are fantastic and the view is about as good as it gets in Portland. And bonus, you can eat food grown right there on their roof. Love.

Scary name. Yummy food. They grow food on the roof? Crazy. The tart (bacon, cheese, mushroom) things was awesome. The panini that's not called a panini was great and seminola bar, surprisingly yummy. next time want to try dumplings and other salads. House red was great. No room for dessert, maybe next time! Great view, but becareful not to sit where the sun's in your eyes or you'll be blind without sunglasses!

mmmmm, wine. What I love about this place: The big comfy booths in the bar section with great views of downtown Portland. The wine flights (brilliant idea!). Friendly service. What I'm not so crazy about: Although the food is good and I admit I haven't tried a whole range of items, things seemed overpriced for what they were and I didn't see many things that I really wanted to try (a personal preference). While I love this place for happy hour, or drinks with friends, this probably isn't somewhere I'd put at the top of my list for a dinner date. Fantastic views and great wine. That's all a girl really needs, right?

Went here last night for a last-minute date night dinner. Wonderful experience and surprised at the quality of the happy hour. The bill was surprisingly cheap too. We ordered from both the happy hour and regular menu. 2 cocktails, 2 beers, olives and cheese plate and the hangar steak... bill was about $50. The food was outstanding the service was excellent... will definitely be back.

  • Neill P.

The food is rather good, but the portions are small and the prices are high for a doubly-whammy kick in the wallet. If food were the sole consideration, it would be possible to eat as well or better for a similar price as what you'd pay here. I've learned that their burger is delicious and a pretty good deal at $12 or so, and it has become my new entree of choice. The ambiance and view are the reasons you come here, and I suppose that is what you are paying for. It is a cool place to hang out on a date or with a group of friends, so I would recommend it.

  • Sophia C.

This place has a good reputation, and my experience didn't live up to that expectation. The staff was not very knowledgeable about their wines. When our wine flights came out, she read off a list the different wines that were in the flights and didn't elaborate on any of them. Not only that, but also we didn't like any of the wines in our flights. Out of 6 different tasters, we did not like any of them. It was a pretty disappointing experience that results in me being pretty determined to not return again.

The view here is amazing, but I went last night 7-10-12, for dinner and I was very disappointed. I got a Onion Tart and Noble Salad. The tart was so salty and the onions were highly overcooked it was hard to eat. The salad was awful there was like a pound of pepper on it and the lettuce was bitter. The waitress rarely came over and by the time see finally did AGAIN, we were done and very disappointed and so ready to leave. Not a good experience :(

You must check this place out!!!! LOVE IT!!! A little on the spendy side, but just go for it tiger. Great food with the best mac & cheese I've ever had, drinks are fantastic and the wait staff are very nice. The kicker of this place is the GORGEOUS view. Just budget for it. Not oober expensive, but definitely not cheap.

Ok go, I acutely kinda like this place, i have visited the Rot on several occasions and have had positive experiences. I will highlight the amazing atmosphere and jaw drooping view of down town p town. On this occasion had the chance to make it for happy hour and was impressed that you could actualy get an great glass of wine for $3.50 that didn't taste like 2 Buck Chuck! It was wonderful to watch the rat race on the Markham bridge as the sun set over the west hills as we lounged on the over size pleated leather bench seats. My friend had a coulple of glasses of the bubby Limencello, wonderful refesment and flavor, MMM!. This is kinda a quant hipesterish kinda place with a refined interior and great wine, would like to experice more especially the covered patio this summer. The staff is friendly and helpful but give them your full attention they are a little soft spoken. I"ll Be Back!

Came here for wine and dessert. It's a really great space with a long bar, comfortable booths and a ceiling decorated with colorful glass sculpture. It was surprisingly empty for 9:30pm on a Friday night. My wife and I each had wine flights - Oregon pinot noir and Italian reds, respectively - and shared a nice cheese plate consisting of a manchego, a bleu and a triple-cream. The service was attentive but our waiter that evening seemed unsure of himself as he described and set our our wines. While our flights were very nice (and reasonably priced), we were never quite sure what we were sampling. If the wine flights were laid out with notes or labels, and displayed with confidence, I'd consider bumping them up to 4 stars

I spent a very comfortable evening out on the rooftop patio here the other night, with out of town guests. I've been on the patio several times before but never on a cool clear night. The heaters kept us warm and the view was excellent. One guest had the hamburger and raved about it. I split the Ham & Cheddar Panino with mango chutney; and the Butternut Squash with caramelized onions with goat cheese Panino. Both were scrumptious. Another guest ordered a glass of pinot noir and ended up with a pinot flight, having ordered it by mistake. She was pleasantly surprised. I've always liked the fact that they serve wine flights here as they did at the original Noble Rot on Ankeny, whose space, I must say, I miss. But I am warming up to the new digs, after all you can still get the Creme Brulee. And it is still fabulous.

Another one on the top of my list! Friendly, quick, attentive staff. Great menu (small but good) includes many items from their roof top garden. The view from the top is pretty damn sweet too! Pricing is what I expected. Good selection of beer/wine. I had the butternut squash sandwich and it was delicious!!!!

Cool spot but surprisingly horrible service and booze. I sat at the bar and ordered a Patron Anejo neat. The temperature of the tequila when it was given to me was extremely warm....it felt like it had just been microwaved. I asked why and they staff told me that it has been sitting under the lights and all the liquor is warm from that. My question of "why do you put it under the lights?" was answered with a shrug. Why would you ruin a $60 bottle of liquor? Clearly they are a bunch of hipster, Portland, Dbags with no real knowledge, respect or concern fo the product they are selling at $14 a glass. Don't heat up the liquor....please? What's wrong with you? How is that cool? Go get another tattoo, primal ear piercing and continue your lost life of finding yourselves....in the meantime I just want to drink and I spend a lot of money doing it. I won't be doing it here.

Noble Rot is one my favorite places in Ptown to go because of the great view, nice drinks, good food, and wine flights. The food won't blow you away, but pretty sure it won't it disappoint. The quality has dropped a little since they moved from their original location. (Hey Noble Rot, when are going to put some braised beef back on the menu?!) They have this beet and endive salad that is pretty rad...but it's really just an excuse to eat a plate of chunky blue cheese dressing. Really good old fashioned too. The salad, view, and the old fashioned bump it to 4 starts.

I came here to have the cheeseburger with some friends. Also came for the wine and the view. From the first time I called to make a reservation, the staff was very friendly. Even as I had to call them back several times to confirm how many people and what time I wanted a table for. (Thanks indecisive friends. LOL.) The service was stellar! We got there and was greeted by the friendly staff and seated immediately. The waitress came by and offered drinks and explained specials and so on. We ordered the burger and off she went. The food came out and it was good. Not the best. The burger tasted a little on the bland side. It came out super hot (temperature) and that was a feat in itself considering all 6 of us had burgers. The fries were good as well as the drinks. The interior of the place is really nice. Candles and lots of glass and mirrors to expand the small area. The view is great from the 4th floor and heightens the experience. Soon after we got there the place filled up and there were no open seats. Great atmosphere. Great place to go for wine and atmosphere. One of the better wine bars I've been to.

Wow, what a view! Book a table on the patio for 4th of July stat, along with a delicious Proseco to toast this awesome wine bar (and our pretty fab country too) and I am pretty much positive you will have the best perch for fireworks show in the city! We had a yummy bottle of Proseco, as well as another bottle of what I believe was a red (this was not our first stop of the evening). The decor was cool, the heating lamps on the patio were very helpful although they could have been turned up even higher, and the roof-top farm sounded amazing. The food was where they lost a star. The fries were sub-par and the pannini that a friend ordered was deemed passable. I don't go to wine bars to eat though so that is why they still have 4 stars. I would absolutely return and love that Sunset Magazine gave them their award for best wine bar in 2009. Way to seek out a unique gem!

My priority for choosing this restaurant was based on the view and the wine which were both amazing. The steak was amazing (but brought out warm, not hot). I found the cheese and meat appetizer plates to be WAY over priced. The worst part of the evening was the service. We had a total douche that didn't seem to care about our party of 10. Since he was getting 18% gratuity, he didn't offer any help, insight suggestions or even a smile. He kind of brought down the vibe for a bit, but we soon got over it. All in all, this is a great place for a view and wine and friends. Just hope you don't get the waiter that we got.

"My darling Biff, where shall we dine tonight?" "Shall we dine at the wine bar near that silly Hippo store and the nudie club, my love?" "Oooh, you wish to slum it tonight, do you, my dear?" "Why yes, my dear Muffy. We shall dine at Noble Rot and drink wine at Noble Rot and have a fine time at Noble Rot while we gaze imperiously at the troglodytes on the ground." "Shall we take the stairs, my dear Biff? "Ha ha ha ha, you silly Muffy. Stairs are for working folk. We shall take the lift!" I neither had nor heard such a conversation when I took the lift to Noble Rot, but something about high-rise wine establishments makes me wish I did. There were a lot of wishes for this trip, and maybe if I had more time and more of Biff and Muffy's imaginary trust fund at my disposal, more of those wishes would have been fulfilled. But as it happened, I wished I had gone to the Report Lounge downstairs instead. It pains me to admit that because the view of Portland's skyline from inside Noble Rot is pretty spectacular. I could totally see myself on the balcony there with a rum-based cocktail on a warm summer day or holed up with a few glasses of cabernet for company on a rainy day, just drinking in the scenery with my alcohol. But if you want food added to that scenario, the happy hour specials will not equal what you pay for them. The finger food options are $3, including onion rings that have a tempura-like batter and hit the spot just fine. But you'd have to be a numbskull to mess up onion rings. It's the heavier, meal-like foods that disappoint. For $6, I expected a salad laden with different vegetables and textures. Instead, I got a plate with a pile of butter lettuce leaves and a sprinkle of sunflower seeds. For variety, there were a few onion shavings. Yawn. It's true - you don't make friends with salad. I thought that surely, the meatier option would bring it. I've had some amazing happy hour burgers in the East Burnside-ish area, from my beloved Bonfire burger to the dearly departed Wine Down burger. That was not the case here. The happy hour burger was a medium rare (the server didn't ask, and the person who ordered it prefers his burgers less pink) $8 grease bomb. It's not like I'm opposed to burgers being greasy. I just don't expect them to be that way when they're small and priced closer to the double digit range. Maybe it's a different experience if you go for the regular dinner menu. Or maybe it's better if you skip the food altogether and stick to the wine. It could be meant for the Biff and Muffys of the eastside. I guess fictional uppity couples need places to drink, too.

Need a view of Portland? Shuffle yourself to here. Need some tasty Olives? Walk on over to here Need some Wine Flights so you can school yourself on what your taste buds fancy? Take the Bus to here ( don't drive). Need some Cheese education? Run, Don't walk to here. Need some restaurant recommendations for the area? Seriously, just go here, the staff is knowledgeable on the foodie scene. I feel weird saying foodie, cause I am not one.......but if you want to pretend for a night. Do what I did, went here had some wine, ate some cheese and olives and talked to the staff and learned more about the area. Its a great find. Two random, different people recommended this place to us during our trip. I did not eat dinner here, so my review is based on the wine/cheese/olive/staff experience.

Great happy hour prices and offerings, trendy spot, but still low key and a great view to boot! The wine selection is great and a lot of great local choices. Came here on my first visit to portland, was only in town for 10 hours, and Noble Rot definitely set the bar high for Portland!

I really wanted to like the NR more than I actually did, as this was my first time here. When I looked up the NR before I went to see what people were eating I saw the comments were mostly about the view and the happy hour. That should have been my first clue. I was there on a Monday night, and the place was packed. Not sure if the service was so slow because they were not expecting that many people, but it was a beautiful sunny night, so they should have anticipated the crowd and had enough servers for the restaurant. I would think it is paced every summer night. The food was OK. I had the onion tart because someone on Yelp actually did write about it. I also had the pasta of the day, which sounded delicious with tons of their homegrown vegetables, pasta, and mozzarella cheese. Nothing to write home about. Also had the grilled ham and cheese panini, and that was surprisingly good. For desert we shared the peanut butter and jelly and the cheesecake. PB&J was fun, maybe the best dish of the evening. Will I go back? Probably not.

What is Noble Rot? A Breath of fresh air..... You feel like you are in new town checking out the cool rooftop bar! But your not, your in Portland and wow I needed this place. Give me a view, beautiful interior, tasty food and healthy greens grown from 10 feet above my head on the roof! Local art and great drinks.....I am in LOVE with this place. I suggest the Butternut Squash, caramelized onions & goat cheese Panino Served with a small salad or fries GET the salad...Blue cheese dressing! Not too thick, just right! In a fine place like this, you wouldn't think that you could ask for Sriracha ... Oh but you can, I ordered the Mac and Cheese and made it spicy Mac! Well done Noble Rot, well done!!

I'm a sucker for almost anything duck. When I saw that they had a duck confit dish, I was all over it. When it came out, I could tell it was going to be good. And it was. Loved it! Can't wait to go back. This place would have been a 5 star if service was better than decent. Overall, I liked this place.

One and two star reviews of this place? Great spot, good food, reasonable prices (happy hour that is), with wonderful wine, in a self sustained (partially) restaurant with an incredible view. Let's. Get. REAL.

Noble Rot came highly recommended as having some of the best house pours of wine, great views, and awesome ambiance, but the beauty of Portland is that there are so many places to choose from that I can choose never to come back solely based on a waiter with an attitude problem. There's no shortage of good wine in Portland. A significant portion of our party had worked in the service industry or restaurants so we know our faux pas. As an 8top we were there at 6pm on a Monday. There was plenty of space and we weren't holding up any valuable real estate. We are always nice to our waitstaff and tip well. Perhaps bringing birthday cupcakes is a little in the gray area, but it seems you guys addressed that with your euphemistic 15 dollar "cake cutting fee" which we were fine with. It would have been nice if you told us before bringing the bill; not because we are cheap, but just because it seems shifty to tack it on at the end without telling us. Half our party left to rush off to the Symphony while three of our friends paid - apparently the waiter made some comment to our friends paying about how he thought we weren't going to tip above the 18% large party gratuity. Each one of them had planned to tip on top of that until he got huffy. It feels like a bad relationship where the other person slowly steers you towards doing the very thing they are afraid you will do and when you do they then proclaim "SEE! I knew all along that's how you were" This evening was like a first date with a crazy chick. I won't be calling back.

Other than the view... This place is a little too big for its britches.. The menu, which includes, in CAPS the items that were grown on the ROOF, included RADISHES the night we ate here (late night on a Saturday). I was not impressed by the "wine bar" fare that included relatively bland pasta dishes, and was short on options and short on interesting choices. The view is fantastic and there were some reasonably priced wines. If you do find yourself at Noble Rot, order the meat and cheese plate to start- or perhaps order just that- it was the best thing any of us ate that evening.

Best view I've had yet in Portland! The stars are for the view. Had a glass of bubbly and some creme brulee with my guy. Both were delicious. The service was nice and accommodating.

Went to dinner last Friday night with friends at Noble Rot, it was packed, apparently a popular spot...or I haven't been out on a Friday night in a while...anyway, it was outstanding! I got a butternut squash/grilled onion panino and who knew a sandwich could be so amazing, truly melted in my mouth! The wines were fantastic, the atmosphere was lovely, the staff was attentive...ahhh what a nice experience!

WOWZERS. Gorgeous view of downtown Portland. Go at night to see the wonderful, sparkling city. It just melts your heart. Went for a quick cocktail with my friends. It's really pricey. Like if you were to get a meal and 2 cocktails you could easily spend $50 bucks on just yourself. On the flipside, it's a gorgeous space with beautiful people. I will only go back to have a drink and show all my visiting friends how pretty it is from up there. I won't go and spend money there to eat or anything. So many places in Portland to get a quality, creative, local dish and it won't cost you a buncha dollaroos.

I had a fantastic time here with my G.F. and by B.F.F., and so I truly couldn't write a sour word about Noble Rot other than the somewhat-lofty prices on their menu, but hey, that's fine-dining for you. Money-matters aside, this place has everything a great wine-bar should. It is beautifully located on the fourth-floor of an arty building on inner East Burnside, so the view of the city lights is absolutely perfect from that vantage point, maybe even better than the view from Portland City Grill. A very romantic setting, indeed, and I can't wait to go here on a warm summer night when the enclosed patio area is opened up. The service was great. The noise level was a bit high due to a large party seated near us and the music over the speakers was at a competing volume. If I went here on a 1-on-1 date I'd hope for a bit more of a relaxing atmosphere. The indoor portion of this bar is one of the more tasteful, warm and sexy restaurants I've seen in Portland, extending out from the overall arty-ness of the building itself. Quite lovely. I tried four tastes of wine, first a fun flight of Vouvray from France's Loire Valley, and then a taste of my friend's Roederer Estate Alexander Valley Brut, which was peachy and stunning. We ordered the olive sampler and cheese plate to share, and then our own individual salads. The olives plate was a plentiful variety and of the cheeses, 3 out of 4 were stellar and the fourth was still an interesting hard, aged goat cheese. The salad I had was a plate of endives, hazelnuts, blue cheese and red beets dressed lightly--pricey, but delicious and satisfying. I'll definitely be back to Noble Rot for a happy hour so as to take advantage not only of the view once again, but also of some better deals on food and wine. This is probably one of the more apropos date spots I've been to around town. Take your sweetie here, for sure.

I must preference this review by saying im a los angelino and am used to paying a pretty penny for a quality dining experience. That said, We lucked out and had a window table and the weather put on a beautiful show. The service was attentive but not quick. We read yelp reviews on the ride over and decided to order some cocktails and apps. My friend and I had the Gypsy Rose Lee and my hubs had the Green Flash. They were quality cocktails (complex flavors with smooth approachability). Between the two, we all agreed Green Flash was the best. To start we had the onion tart (which my UK husband and I found remiss of Branston's pickle relish). Nothing exceptional but savory and enjoyable nonetheless. We also shared the endive, blue cheese, hazelnut salad which was elegant in presentation and on the palette. For mains i was torn between the salmon/scallop ceviche and wild salmon. Thankfully the waitress suggested the wild salmon because my hubs ordered the ceviche and there was no comparison between the dishes. The wild salmon was crisped on the outside and perfectly flaky yet succulent inside. There was virtually no "fishy" flavor and instead I was ensconced in the lobster coral broth and peas and fennel. The flavors were clean, balanced, complexed and layered. Unfortunately, my husband found his ceviche grossly lacking. There was minimal to no acid and the accompanying avocado salad had a fish clang that he can only attribute to the sous or other prep chef not washing their hands for. The wine flights are fun and provide one with an opportunity to try out new varietals or in our case appellations. We went with the Botrytis to end the meal and were fighting over the last sip of Tokaji. On the whole it's worth it and I would recommend it.

Noble rot was the perfect end to an evening entertaining a visitor from The City that Never Sleeps. After a delicious dinner at the Farm, we selected Noble Rot for our wine and dessert. The new location seems a little odd from the outside and on your way up to the fourth floor, but the warmth, windows and wine inside will assuage any concerns quickly. The view of the river and downtown can't be beat and the ambience makes Portland seem like a quietly classy city. Our visitor was a bit of a wine connoisseur, and was duly appreciative of the wine selection. The service was great, and I'm tempted to find a reason to have a reception this summer out on the balcony. We ordered a 2006 local pinot that was fantastic. The crème brulee and the brownie sundae satisfied our sweet tooth, but the crème was a bit too runny in the brulee. Overall this is a great place to bring any out of town guest who might not be appreciative of the seedier side of our fair city of roses.

It gets a whole star just for the amazing view. I've been here once before, for happy hour, but it was in the middle of winter on a stormy night so I didn't even notice the view. Fast forward 6 months later to a May evening with schizo Portland weather and it's a whole different story. It was pretty busy and we ended up waiting about 45 minutes for a table--it was a Thursday night, we understood. Plus I had a fabulous drink "Making Love at Midnight" to keep me company. Great drink, funny name (from the Pina Colada song). I think they're going to change it--we voted for "Caught in the Rain". I wasn't too impressed with the choices on the menu--nothing really stood out to me but opted for the pasta of the day (spaghetti with braised chicken, tomatoes, cheese and there might have been some spinach in it.) It was nothing to write home about but I was hungry so down it went. I wanted dessert (chocolate covered peanut butter pound cake with nutella and whipped cream...yum!!) but found out 10 minutes after we put in the order that the kitchen was out of it. Pooey. I'd probably go back, just for the view. And that drink. And in hopes of trying that dessert.

Went here for a date night with friends. Made our reservation through Open Table and then used the smartphone directions to get us there. Great table by the window with a view of Portland from the Eastside. That is not a common view. Enjoyed a flight of Willamette Valley Pinor Noir with a great salad comprised almost fully of items from their rooftop garden. Then sturgeon for main course. Excellent. Hubby got a chocolate brownie for dessert and I got a spanish coffee. Rivals Hubers. A great spot. We'll go back for sure for a happy hour!

Trendy spot, but still super low key and not pretentious. Amazing view; can't wait to check out this spot in the Spring/Summer! The wine selection is great and a lot of great local choices. I tasted the Oregon Pinot flight and was pleased as punch! We had dinner there and it wasn't too shabby :) I had their soup de jour as well as the scallops and my date had one of their delicious salads and the duck. We were both very please with our meals. The happy hour menu looked great and I look forward to going there for HH soon! Wish the service was a bit better, but hey they let us move tables mid dinner with no fuss...can't really complain there :)

NW and SW Portland tend to get bragging rights when it comes to beautiful Portland views, but Noble Rot's jawdropping view keeps the Eastside in contention. We sat at the bar, but pretty much looked out the gorgeous windows the entire time. Their drinks were yummy. I got the Pomegranate Lemon Drop, and THANK YOU Noble Rot for keeping it sour. A good girly drink can go bad fast when they make it way too sweet. This drink was perfection. I may have found my new favorite non-divey bar. Please don't tell anyone.

The main reason I liked this place is because of the creme brulee. I have never had such amazing creme brulee in my life!!! I dream about it and want to go back just for that. My entree on the other hand was not so good. I ordered the quinoa and brown rice crepes and they sucked. The were jam packed with quinoa and rice and were extremely dry with no sauce to accompany them. Did not enjoy. My friend got the burger, soup, and fries(which the server forgot). Overall I did enjoy it because our server was very knowledgeable and the view was amazing at night.

Amazing view and that's about it. Went last night and service was not good. Lame excuses for running out of entree after order was taken and food delivered to rest of party of 7. Had to wait over 15 more minutes for an additional entree in its place. Sturgeon was over cooked and dry. Short ribs were delivered cold and without much meat. One thing was that the salads were very nice.

Love the view and the wine and those onion tart things... I forget what they are called. Anyways, been here manybtimes over the years starting when Rot was on Ankeny St. Did I mention the view? Best on the East Side. Steady, consistent -- Rot is a must visit formout of towners. And just a fun, relaxing local spot to enjoy a wine flight or a meal. Always excellent service. Side note-- I will never understand the whiney reviewers who sign up for Yelp just to leave a 1 start review because of some small issue that in no way reflects the overall business. Rot deserves 5 stars.

First time at Noble Rot - WHAT A LET DOWN! Noble Rot needs to improve their happy hour or get rid of it. Happy Hour is from 5-6. I Went tonight 07/13/12. Noble Rot opens at 5 officially, but today they opened the doors late. By 5:10, when they finally opened, there were more than 20 people waiting. Because my group had 5 people they asked us to wait to be seated while groups of four who arrived later were seated ahead. Once they started to seat the waiting guests, hosting staff claimed - despite many empty adjacent 4 tops and empty tables on the patio - that they could not accommodate a walk-in group of 5 unless we sat in a booth inside, and we promised to be done by 6:30. so they could seat a reservation coming in at that time. We should have left then, but we stayed since we were all coming from different directions and going in different directions to get home. We sat at the bar. The bar staff did not seem pleased to have to accommodate guests at the bar when they were busy making drinks for all the happy hour customers at the tables. As the hour went on the drinks were fine and the food was good; the bar staff was somewhat pleasant although they made minimal eye contact, even when asking if we wanted more drinks. But I really don't like being a paying guest in a restaurant and feeling like I am in the way, uninvited and putting the staff out. Yes, there was a happy hour crowd, but some tables were empty the entire hour and a half that we were there. The tips we left were too big. My friends were uncomfortable with the situation and it put a damper on our time together. Seriously bad service. Oh, and when you are opening the door to your establishment and you are running late, it is best not to say, "we are closed tonight.......just kidding." I think this set the tone for the whole experience. I really want to like this place but it was such an unpleasant experience.

I can absolutely see Noble Rot becoming one of the new "it spots" in town. Easily earns 4*s, likely worthy of a fifth but I'm reserving that until I've tried them for dinner. To begin with they make the absolute best of their new digs. From the minute I walked in the door after climbing the steps to their 4th floor location (they have an elevator for those who need it), I was totally impressed. Cleanly elegant, there's a good energy and flow right from the entrance, pulling you all the way to the beautiful patio. On the left there are a number of nice, low booths and tables - each with a great view of the city to the east - on the right is simple bar seating at the rack. Good views abound, even inside, but the [smoke-free] patio is where it's at! Doing their best efforts to accommodate the demand for al fresco seating, Noble Rot packs in the chairs a little more tightly outside than in, but it's not overly crowded. The views are quite magnificent; depending on where you sit (or how far you crane your neck) you've got better than 180-degrees of gorgeous downtown PDX skyline, Willamette river and bridges, inner SE and Tabor views! I'd estimate that 2/3rds of the patio is covered, meaning we still enjoyed ourselves even when it started to sprinkle a bit, and as the sun starts making it's presence known more than a few hours a day, there should be ample shade at The Rot. I really don't think you're gonna believe me until you've been there, but I can't think of many places in PDX that have been as pleasant and memorable in which to unwind with a drink or snack. I'm gonna call this a MUST VISIT location - especially for my out-of-town friends who wonder why I love Portland so much. The great staff was totally up to the task of maintaining the high you get from being on high. Quick and attentive as they navigated their way though the many tables of happy patrons, our primary server and the 2ndary "busser" never let our glasses (booze or water) go empty without checking to see if we needed anything - bonus points for stopping by just before the end of Happy Hour (which unfortunately really is just an hour, 5-6pm) even though our drinks were relatively full; it never hurts to get one more round of HH discounts! Speaking of, HH will net you discounts on glasses of House wine or pints of beer (each $1.50 off their regular $5 price, if I recall), as well as at least 1 daily special cocktail ($5.50). These days I'm a "beer guy", so offering just 3 taps doesn't blow me away, but at least they were really good picks (Ninkasi Believer, New-Old Lompoc IPA, Bitburger) and the pours were to-the-rim, very little head, solid pints - and not a drop spilled in the delivery! The oft-neglected "wine guy" in me (I used to live in Sonoma County) really appreciates, and looks forward to sampling, some of the amazing selection of wines and reasonably priced rotating flights poured at Noble Rot. A quick glance at prices seemed fair, and they proudly proclaim you can buy a bottle for retail +$7 (as cheap or better than any other wine bar in town) - I have no reason to doubt this claim. They also have a smallish list of HH food items - though the pricing on some didn't seem that deeply discounted as compared to the regular menu. We tried a few different items: the dish of olives was quite nice - priced right, good variety; the onions rings were a little disappointing, thin and a little oily; the cheese plate (while no great bargain) had 2 really nice selections, one A-ok, and one that wasn't for me - but they did bring us plenty more bread to go with it (without us even having to ask). While the space (with views) and the service in my opinion justify the slightly higher regular prices, I left with the impression that you need not go out of your way for Happy Hour, as the price differential isn't that large. And considering the very tempting sounding Grilled Leg of Lamb (with green herb yogurt, chick-pea fritters, and salad) was the most expensive item @ $19, it seems you could have a very nice dinner (assuming the execution is good) with couple glasses of wine for right around $30 (+tip) or less. Again, not bad given the fantastic ambiance - and there are cheaper items (paninis cost just $9). All of this comes with the backdrop of knowing this is a LEED-certified "green" building, that grows much of their produce on their own 3000 sq.ft rooftop garden, and buys locally at least 75% of all food ingredients. They compost 100% of food scraps, buy and serve organic and sustainable products when possible, and are sited on top of their own underground aquifer (and will even fill up your bottle before you leave). Whether it's for a beer and snack, relaxing with glass of wine, a full dinner, or dessert and a cocktail, I KNOW I'll be back to Noble Rot. I need a few more visits (and must try more substantial food) before bestowing a 5th star, but I am quite optimistic they'll earn it!

  • Brooke h.

Great ambiance, great wine list, good crowd, good/friendly service, great back porch with view of city. would be nice if there were a few more menu items that were substantial or more interesting, since most of the plates they offered weren't really a full meal but also were priced so that I didn't want to order two just for myself. I'm used to small plates as I frequent tapas bars and wine bars very often, but I like when the plates are a bit more filling so I don't have to eat again afterwards...;)

LOVE this place! The grilled butternut pannini with caramelized onions and goat cheese is my standard! The fourth floor patio is wonderful on a warm summer evening. The sommelier was knowledgeable and willing to accommodate our party with a special vintage. The only reason I couldn't give 5 stars...the onion tart was VERY salty and I was brought the wrong drink on 2 different occasions.

I've been to Noble Rot a couple of times at their new location. Great view, interesting daily cocktails, wonderful and friendly service, very good food. Their house wines are really nice, and all beverages are priced well at happy hour. All in all, this is a great place to go after work, convenient to downtown.

Coming from SF, I've visited a few wine bars in my day. We stumbled in around 1030, so we were on the late night food menu. $5 mac and cheese was pretty good. I'm pretty sure they took the McD's french fry recipe. Cheese plate was all rich...these are all great things in my book. The bar itself was cool circa 2005, which is pretty when culture passed me by anyways. Comfortable, sleek, some older techno tunes. Roof Deck offers amazing views. Had a tasting flight of Australian reds, was good, not great. Good list, I just hit a few that didn't hit the spot. Staff super attentive. 'Nuff Said. Overall if you're looking for an easy wine bar and you are over the age of 30, this place works.

My fiance and I stopped in on Friday night for a drink before dinner at the Screen Door. There was no room at the bar and no tables available, so we sat in a communal booth right at the front. After walking around the restaurant to catch a glimpse of some views, my fiance asked the hostess if we could sit outside at the empty tables. She said the outside wasn't opened so we couldn't do it. Bummer.. About 5 minutes later, she came up to us and said we could sit out there but couldn't get serviced because it was a tight squeeze between inside tables and would disrupt guests eating. That was fine with us - we already ordered a drink and didn't mind being out there alone. We thought it was really nice that she offered to let us do that and we had a wonderful time with the Portland view.

My friends and I used to meet here for our monthly book club. It's great! You get the city feel + suburban atmosphere in a garage like setting. I speaking of the old location. The food is very good and the price is reasonable. The servers are great, very friendlly. I find their selection of wines is decent, and very off the wall, since you wouldn't expect it.

I've had a few bad experiences here but love the setting so I tried it one more time. We arrived at 9 (closes at 10) were told by the host/manager? that it was last call since they were slow... poor business. :( I will be back, because and only because our server Sarah was really sweet, informative with the wine selection and just plain lovely.

The view is sensational, the service is courteous and efficient, the wine bottle menu extensive (and by the glass choices are plentiful, too), and the food is borderline outstanding. I think you need to shell out the big bucks to really eat right here. But I was lucky enough to get a tour of the amazing rooftop garden which makes me want to come back again and again, knowing the food on my plate is about as fresh and local as it can get. Also, apparently there's an aquifer under the bldg so the water is uniquely refreshing.

Every time, we are impressed with the service, the food, the drinks and THE VIEW!! Small, friendly, always a new twist on the menu. Went most recently for drinks and apps to start a progressive Birthday Dinner, and the wait staff were so friendly, recommending fabulous drinks, even put a birthday candle on the cheese plate. Above and beyond. And there was a full moon shining down on the 300-degree view of sparkling Portland. Perfect.

I was so excited to visit Noble Rot after years of hearing/reading great things about them. It is a great atmosphere, with incredible views of the city, but their wine list was sub-par. For a wine bar located so close to Pinot Noir country, their by-the-glass and flight options were very basic. I decided to venture out of my comfort zone with the food and try a butternut squash panini. The sandwich was very oily. I wouldn't write Noble Rot off after just this experience, especially after being named the best wine bar in Portland for a few years, but with such saturated wine bar competition in Portland, they better up their game.

I loved this place and was shocked that on a Saturday night it wasn't that full at all. First of all, it's in a pretty random location meaning the 4th floor of what looks like an office building but you walk in and it has a GREAT ambiance. We started with the marinated olives. Normally I'm not the hugest olive fan but these were delicious. We also ordered the salad with Gorgonzola and beets. Also delicious. Both appetizers were reasonably priced and had so much flavor. I'm assuming that they were made with quality, fresh ingredients. My only complaint was my entree. It was a pasta with mushrooms in a cream sauce. The cream sauce was just too too rich and overwhelming and almost made the dish difficult to eat. It was good but way too rich. Total bill for 2 apps, 2 glasses of the house win (very good bang for the buck), and 2 entrees and whopping $50. Very reasonable if you asked me. It also helps that Oregon has no sales tax. You should definitely check this place out!

My husband and I stopped here for a drink and loved this place! The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. We sat at the bar and ordered some wine flights. We saw some of the plates and it all looked and smelled great! I can't wait to go back to try their food. The views are beautiful to boot!

I really want to give this place 2 stars, but because the food is very good, I don't feel I can. Having been to NR on two separate occasions I can say that their menu is always interesting but their service and their wine philosophy borders on awful. The servers here will vanish for over 15 at a time, and they project an attitude of indifference that really makes the diner feel unwelcome. The wine flight BS that they currently have seems pretty counter intuitive. Why let the customer sample three wines and then not let them order a bottle of their preference? I really hope that NR makes some changes to these issues, because the food and the view make the place almost worth visiting.

The views from here are great! The wine list is superb, and the house wine is not only good but also cheap. The food is surprisingly good for a wine bar and the menu offers many vegetarian choices. I came here with a group to learn about wine tasting and the host was funny and very insightful. Unfortunately, everyone in the group was around twenty years older than me but I still had a great time.

The view here is everything. The best place to go for happy hour (very short one 5-6pm) on a clear day. The wine is decent and the cheese plate is quite good. They offer different types of cheese every day.

I really wanted to like this place but after my experience last night I won't be back. I went here with my best friend and we decided to get the onion tart for an appetizer, it was really small, salty, and burnt tasting. For Dinner we decided to have salads, she had the noble salad and I had the endive salad both of which were very small for dinner salads. My friends salad had an overabundance of pepper and not enough dressing. My salad was just horrible, the endive was very strong almost like it wasn't ripe or harvested too early, it made the whole salad taste awful, and the presentation was bizarre. Our waitress only came to the table 4 times, once to take our orders, then to bring us our appetizer and our food, and then last to bring us the check, she never asked us if we needed another drink or if our food was ok, and when we tried to tell her about our food she wasn't very helpful. This will be the first and last time I go here!

I love this wine bar/ restaurant. My hubby and I went here for a date night and sat at the bar for dinner. I enjoyed our meal, wine, service, view and overall, elegant atmosphere. This will be a regular spot when we can get a babysitter. Nice to have this wonderful establishment on the East side!

Happy hour with a glass of $3.50 Shiraz, a beautiful view and the best onion rings I've had in a long time...Definitely worth checking out. My only nit-picky complaint is that some of the decor is left over from the last restaurant here. The spacey ceiling decorations don't fit the vibe of the place anymore. But of course, the view out the window is so nice, it's hard to care.

My girlfriend had some money from a new job selling dog food at a chain pet store, hence we dispatched with haste thus. Joint was jumping, kinda a middle-aged hipster place. Had to wait 20 minutes for a table, but sat on a nice couch and had a drink. Full crew to man and woman the place. Friendly staff. The onion rings are great, light and thin and crispy. The brownie with a scoop of ice cream is somehow really, really hot and flavorful. A real pleasure to savor. My girlfriend laid some cash on the table and we dispatched with haste yet again thus. With fantastic atmosphere and decor, one of the best rooftop patios in Portland, and amazing cocktails - Noble Rot should rate more than 3 stars from me. As a bar, this place is perfect. As a restaurant, it's just slightly off. The menu is extremely limited and the portions are tiny. With such a great atmosphere, Noble Rot is a place I'd like to spend a few hours over several (or even many) glasses of wine or cocktails. If only the menu had 10% more on it that I wanted to eat! I love a small, curated, seasonal menu, but the expectation is that it changes daily with ingredient availability. Of the three times I was at Noble Rot this summer, the menu was essentially identical each time -- couple of salads, the same burger, salmon, chicken and steak each time. The quality of the food is very good, but you don't get much. The good news is the prices are reasonable and it's hard to complain when you've got the incredible 4th floor view over the city. Worth a visit, just don't arrive too hungry.

Drink menu was great! We had a seat on the outdoor patio and got to watch the sun set with the Portland skyline. I had a local Pinot Noir wine flight. Perfect. I heard the food is great. PB&J is one of the desert choices, hah!

This restaurant is located on the fourth floor of a modern building with a good view across the Willamette River of downtown Portland. The entry off the street is very unprepossessing and the elevator worn and dirty. In the restaurant proper the furnishings look relatively new, the bench seat I used comfortable. The menu is limited, but looks very good. I had a pinot noir wine flight of three small servings from 2010 and 2011 from wineries I had never heard of. They were unobjectionable but very similar to each other. I ordered one dish, braised pork with beans, carrots, olives and winter greens. The vegetables were reasonably good, the pork cooked hard and very uninteresting. The dish blended poorly. Another choice might have given me a very different impression of the restaurant or perhaps a night other than Monday. As it is, I cannot recommend it.

Although I'd heard lots of good things about Noble Rot before I went I found it lacking. I went with three other friends and two of us didn't get our food cooked to order, while what did come cooked to order was decent, but not extraordinary. The food was also forever in coming, as were the drinks.

The watermelon soup: obviously it sounded weird but was AMAZING; the poached Salmon: PERFECT. Robust selection of wine by-the-glass. Go for the food and wine, linger for the unique view of Portland's skyline.

I went to Noble Rot tonight and I was extremely disappointed!!! It sucks to becuase I was so excited to come here... Our Bartender (Kierre) was terrible, we put in an appetizer order and we noticed the people next to us got our appetizer- I'm sure they thought it was a free cheese plate and olives and were probably stoked until the bill came...The service overall was just plain bad, no social interaction, she never asked if we wanted another drink after we were done, never had a follow up-Like "how is everything" and never even considered that she just gave our order away. I mean 2 orders and an appetizer, how hard is it!!!! My salmon was raw, should have asked for rice to roll up a sushi roll! From most of the reviews I have read it looks like most say they have terrible service, they definitely live up to it... I work in the Hotel industry and recommend restaurants every day,THIS WILL NOT BE ONE OF THEM!

Probably one of my new favorite places. The french white wine flight was amazing. The hamburger is probably the best burger I have ever had, and my girlfriend enjoyed the grill butternut squash pannini. Great views of the city while enjoying fabulous food and wine.

Great eats! Great drinks! Great views! I confess to ordering the onion tart twice: once for an app; once for dessert. Great wine selection. Chef Joe and his roofttop garden totally rock!! Definitely come for the local food, stay for the gourmet cuisine and great wines!

Liked this location better when it was Rocket, liked Noble Rot better when it was on Ankeny. Somehow this place managed to make me feel uncomfortable even though this was formerly one of my favorite haunts as Rocket, also wine list was frankly mediocre and presented by not all that knowledgeable staff even though it is a "wine joint" - otherwise service was friendly, Pate was honestly inedible, cheese plate was good, french flight of reds... eehhh

well, the view is good, so maybe this is a good place for drinks only. anyway, the service was slow, and took some time for us to be acknowledged and for our food to arrive. when food arrived, the lamb was incredibly tough, even though it was prepared medium-rare. thank god we had a chinook book coupon, otherwise it would have been much more of a rip-off. however, we did make up for the lackluster night by stealing a butternut squash from their display. maybe i'll make some soup with it that is worthy of more than two stars.

We arrived with the plan to have 6 people for Happy Hour. Within 20 minutes, we expanded into a group of 12. The servers were very helpful and we found space on the balcony. The service was excellent. I've been here a few times and always had really great service, but this group was large so I was really happy to find they still delivered. The food was good as usual.

The view and service here is outstanding. We had their meat plate, mac & cheese and a pork entree. The meat plate was delicious. The entrees, however, left us wanting. Considering what you can get around town for $25, it just wasn't worth it. I would, however, go back, if only for apps and wine.

Doesn't it suck when the ambiance trumps the service? I have been wanting to try the (no longer new) Noble Rot location at 11th & Burnside (note to owners: calling information, they give the old address! ahem!), and we got a beautiful spot on the balcony just as the sun was setting. Our waitress took our wine order, brought it, and never came back. She didn't ask us if we wanted something to eat, didn't offer us water (everyone else seemed to have water), anything. Just disappeared. When our wine was in the final sip, another person came by and -no, they didn't ask us if we wanted to order- we asked for the check. It took a good 10 minutes after giving my credit card to get it back. Needless to say, no tip. What sucks is that the interior is GORGEOUS, the sunset view was LOVELY, and who knows, if we'd have been offered, maybe the food was good. However, $26 entrees? $13 for a tiny cheese plate? Overpriced. Overrated. For those prices the chairs could have been a wee bit more than K-mart quality. Oh yeah, and our waitress? Sitting at the bar as we walked out. Gee that's great. Note to Noble Rot: don't rely on your view to get you business. It was a lovely night and the place wasn't even half full. Now I know why. Total disappointment.

Not bad, not bad. Pretty good food a la Americana, albeit a bit bougie...my poor ass definitely only belongs there during happy hour. The fourth floor view from the patio, although obscured partially by trees and other unattractive buildings, does give a nice view across the river. They grow their own lettuce on the rooftop, and that shit is mad tasty (buy a head from their garden for only $1!). Warning to lazy folks who are trying to get on a diet: too damn bad they serve their salads just straight up in the original leaf form. I guess that's cool if you're into that DIY-food-is-art-and-cutting- your-own-salad nonsense...whatever.

We have been here a handful of times now and it has been consistently good on all fronts: service, food, vibe, vino. The view is great and they have large comfortable booths where you can squeeze in plenty of people without being on top of each other. Their new lamb dish with tzatziki foam is delectable.

i came here on a thursday afternoon for cocktails and some bites - the menu is good, and cocktails not so bad either! the vibe is trendy, but you do see some families here with younger kids. i imagine in the evening it changes moods - but overall great experience. service was good, price points good - i plan to go back! as a tip: don't sit on the patio if it's hot outside, there aren't umbrella's or any coverings for shade!

Noble Rot restaurant smells like it sounds...like the sweet nectar of fermented grapes. The space is beautiful, with an indoor bar and lounge, a semi outdoor side room and an outdoor patio on the fourth floor. We were seated outside, which proved slightly nervous wracking, we traveled back in. I went with a wine flight, my companions went with a beer and a refreshing pink cocktail. Is it the place to pregame before going to Doug fir? No. But it is a refined change of scene, and a great place to take the folks. Our servers were gracious and accommodating.

I suppose I'm just not the person who loves swanky, up-scale restaurants. My experience in these types of establishments is limited, but I can say that not very much about this venue really impressed me the way I had expected it to. We were brought here on more of a triple-date night, chosen by our friends who like to frequent restaurants that take part in farm-to-table. Noble Rot grows a large majority of its ingredients on its own roof, which is pretty sweet in principle, but shouldn't this at least save the customers a LITTLE bit of money? Not so much. The views of the city were, as promised, spectacular and we had great seating on a hot July night. Fans provided just enough breeze to where it wasn't miserable to sit down and eat a hot meal in the middle of summer. I had the pasta special of the night which was very flavorful but a bit on the small side, even for being a "special" item. I also had the Willamette Valley Pinot Noir flight which I can honestly say was probably the best purchase for the value - very good wine for a very decent price ($14). I finished off the night with a rhubarb and peach dessert which was also very good but definitely not worth the hefty price tag. Cocktails are a huge expense here, so be warned. Fancy shmancy, yes, but definitely overpriced. The service was good, not great for what you'd expect. I guess in order for me to not feel so bad about paying so much money for a meal that I could honestly get at another place with a better vibe and atmosphere, it really has to be something spectacular and this place just didn't do it for me. They have an "A" for effort as far as trying to be something special, but they're just not quite there.

This place is rad. Amazing views as its on the top floor. Huge wine selection and the food is spot on as is the service. These people know what they are doing. Just make sure you ready to drop at least $150 on a meal for two before hitting this place. A decent bottle will run you $80+ but the wine is amazing & it's an average 50% mark up from buying it from a vineyard.

Lovely view, good service, and nice atmosphere. I met friends on the patio on a warm spring evening. We had dessert and drinks here. I didn't try a wine flight, but had a cocktail instead. "Sex with a view" was my drink of choice, and it was fantastic! They used ingredients from the rooftop garden to garnish this sassy cocktail. Their menu looked very appetizing, and I chose the peanut butter and jelly dessert. The peanut butter ice cream accompanied by the brioche was impeccable. I will be coming back here again, possibly for a nice evening out with friends or family.

I've heard good things about Nobel Rot and wanted to check it out for myself. The main reason why I wanted to check this out is because of how green they are. They have a 3000 sqft garden on their roof (ask for a tour) and have an aquifer which provides them water full of mineral for the plants! Another reason why I came here was for the patio view. The restaurant is on the 4th floor so the patio had a great view of Portland. Food here was amazing. We ordered the roof salad, daily pasta, HK pork shoulder and the crème brulee. The roof salad consisted of all the things grown from their roof! It was probably one of the best salads I've had out. The daily pasta was a tomato base fettuccini pasta with ground pork and basil and it was delicious. It reminded me of the quality of an Il Corvo dish I've had in Seattle. The HK pork shoulder was very tender (you can cut it with your fork) and had brilliant flavors, but the fried rice it sat upon was a little salty for my liking. As for the creme brulee, there was nothing very special about it, pretty standard/good. Service was amazing here. Everyone was very friendly, knowledgeable and genuinely love their job. My girlfriend and I had the opportunity to tour the roof and it was awesome. The tour guide/chef was very passionate about what grows on the roof and the quality of the ingredients he use for his dishes. I will definitely be coming back for their other seasonal dishes!

Nice view from the East Side. Unique and different menu. The restaurant use their roof top garden for some of their food presentation especially their fresh salads. Small restaurant but easy to find parking available. Reservations recommended especially on weekends. Drinks - Wine by the Glass may be expensive ($26) so make sure you check the price first. Must try Brownie dessert!!!! I am still craving for it. So delicious! I'll definitely come back again! :)

Noble Rot is amazing! It isn't that high up (four floors, I believe) but it still offers a great view of Portland. Parking is relatively painless in the area. I love coming here at night time. I highly prefer this place over Portland City Grill-- the food is better, the service is better, and the overall ambiance of the place is better.

Great view and layout of restaurant. Rooftop salad was excellent. It was so fresh and never tasted tomatoes that were so delicious. Onion rings were delicious and crisp. The double cut pork chops were moist and mouthwatering with the peach combination. Mac and cheese was good with the right amount of texture with breadcrumbs. Dessert was ok.

Went here for an early dinner. Had the macaroni and cheese it was great. Loved the pasta special of fettuccine lamb sausage. It was hard to stop eating! Drinks are great. Bathe happy hour special violet drop was sweet and light, loved it! Friend got Whitesnake cocktail and was not loving it, it tasted like it was missing something. Without saying anything they brought another and it tasted perfect. Great service and a lot of attention.

I wanted to like this place but it had too much against it versus good. We were sat in a corner that was warm and their fan was not strong enough to cool us down on a 99 degree F day out. Their menu items do look appetizing but the prices were just over the top! They automatically add 20% tip of you have a larger party. One of my friends had ordered the burger and they asked her how she wanted it cooked! Um, how about cooked to the temperature that will kill ecoli O157:h7 which would be fully cooked to 160 and nothing less. This is such a health violation, and I don't know how they are able to get away with this. The waitress was friendly so I will give them that. Unfortunately we didn't have much of a view so I can't really comment on that. Based on their prices and the other factors I mentioned, I don't think I will be returning. Update: I spoke to my friend a few days after we had dinner here and she said she regretted ordering the burger meat not well done because she claimed that she was up that night with stomach cramps and running to the bathroom constantly.

The things that were amazing: -cocktails -brownie for dessert -fried chicken -mac & cheese -onion rings -view -service -use of fresh, local ingredients Things that were less-than-amazing: -the price on somethings -the rotating menu means your favorite entree may soon be gone We loved this place, and can't wait to go back. I enjoy the rotating menu, as we get to try different things, but I miss our favorite dishes when they're gone. I like to check the menu before going, because the entrees can vary in how tasty they sound to me (I can be a picky eater), and their prices vary. There are always a variety of dishes at different price points and to appeal to vegetarians and meat eaters alike.

I rate 4/5. The view is amazing, the service was kind, but could be faster. They were very busy so I understand the longer wait. Both the beet salad, side of fries, and burger were on-point and delicious. The Grilled flat iron with potato, mushroom & green bean hash was ordered medium well, but came out over-well done. The mushrooms and potatoes were black. The beef was dry and ooooover salted. The idea of the dish was great, the execution failed. I'll definately be back and maybe this time i'll be able to give it 5 stars!

I came here on my first trip to Portland about two weeks ago at my friend's suggestion for dinner. When we came on a Thursday night, it wasn't too busy that we could still manage to snag a table with an amazing view of Portland's downtown and urban core. I decided to order the HK pork shoulder, which comes with sausage fried rice and peanuts. The menu also says that there's supposed to be some mint in this dish, but I couldn't taste it. I didn't think the portion was all that generous for a $25+ item. I also didn't think the pork shoulder was especially outstanding or delicious - it was very average; I'm not sure what exactly about it made it "HK" style, which I assume means Hong Kong (other than non-Cantonese people appropriating the title to make the food sound and taste more interesting to a generic American palette). The fried rice was decent, but why order something for $25 to get the accompanying side that tastes better than the actual dish? I think the highlight here was the peanuts. On this note, I wish the menu had more options. There didn't seem like a lot to choose from. Service: Our waiter was pretty nice and diligent about checking up on us. Bottom line: Great view and ambiance (I also enjoyed the lights) and average food. Come for the view and such but don't expect wonders out of the food.

OMG, this food was great. I love that we ate food from their roof top garden. Can't get much fresher than that unless you eat at my Mum's farm in New Zealand. The hamburger was excellent, although perhaps only worth four stars, overall this place is definitely worth 5 stars. Loved the view from the 4th floor patio too.

First of all: Fresh is always best - nothing tastes better. What they grow on the roof, when they plate it, is just superb. Their charcuterie is really well done. Fresh pasta always tastes wonderful (though I prefer my pasta to be less dainty/more robust). My only (petty) complaint is that I thought the tasty Lamb Merguez sausage that was grilled would've benefit from having a little more fat in it; it would be juicier vice drier, and the flavor would have been amplified better. And we kind of fell into the large party/divide the check confusion at the end, which wasn't the ending I would've preferred. And don't forget, it is one of the best Eastside seats with a terrific viewpoint of downtown+Pearl. Enjoy!

HOLY VIEW. Even on a foggy February night, we had a great view. Definitely make reservations and enjoy the wine! Such a swanky place, don't be afraid to wear your fancy threads. There's a coat rack at the entrance so you can keep an eye on your fancy threads while you eat and cavort. I loved it, want to go back, need to make about twice what I do. Until then, I can dream.

This is my second visit to Noble Rot. We started the meal with the Rot Meat Plate and the Onion Tart. The waitress was very sensitive to my mushroom aversion. She placed the Meat that involves mushrooms on a seperate plate. There wasn't much to write home about on the Meat Plate. The Onion Tart, by contrast, is a hard act to follow. My entrée was the braised beef with polenta and Turnips. The beef was awesome as was the Polenta! The Onion Rings were awesome too! The Macaroni and Cheese was not quite what I expected. I couldn't get into it. Our server, Christine, was very informative, friendly, and attentive. The hostess was also awesome! Overall the restaurant is a nice place and ranks a solid three stars against comparable establishments.

Loved this place... The salad and chilled soup were inventive, fresh combinations which were absolutely wonderful to experience. The chef's flavorful, unique, combinations are right on the target! The salmon with miso braised oyster mushrooms was incredible! We told the waiter what kind of wine we liked and he recommended a lovely Pinot blanc we both enjoyed. The views are great and the decor is edgy! The noise level is a bit on the high side, but other than that I will definitely be returning!

Super fresh food direct from the rooftop garden! Olives and cheeses to start were delish. Salads with rooftop greens and edible flowers were not only tasty but also quite beautiful. Avocado and champagne mango was a favorite. Can't wait to try the basil ice cream. In a city full of restaurants, this is one NOT to miss!

Best restaurant I've visited in weeks. The view is as amazing as they say, and the ambiance is chic and cozy -- a great place to hang out with a group of friends or retreat for a romantic date. I started with the cold melon soup, and it was amazing. I followed with the salmon, and my husband had the lamb, both were complex and delicious and I would order either of them again in a heartbeat. But there were so many other things to try that why should I?! On the list for next time is the mac and cheese; it was a huge mistake not to order it as an appetizer to split. The wine list is extensive, diverse, and full of treasures. My husband is very particular about wine and rarely finds one by the glass that he likes, but even he found he couple that he ordered to his liking. I finished with the olive oil cake, and it was the perfect ending to a great meal.

First visit to NR. So glad I finally made it here. The onion tart was amazing and unlike anything I have had before. The wine flights are a great idea for trying a few wines at once and our server was super knowledgeable. The endive salad and scallops entree were also standouts. My steak came with some great sides and an amazing curry sauce. Great view too :-)

We had a really good dinner here. The restaurant is located on the 4th floor (elevator or stairs from lobby) with seating available inside or on a very spacious patio. They have a 3000 sq ft roottop garden that supplies most of the herbs and some of the vegetables they use. Tours of the garden are available Monday and Tuesday during happy hour with a chef escort. It is recommended that is you want to tour the gardens you submit that request when you make your reservation. We had a Oregon Pinot Wine flight which was excellent. Dinner was a housemade pasta with housemade tomato sauce -- excellent with just enough zing. We also had the summer squash stuffed with eggplant -- the stuffing was tasty but the squash could have been cooked a little more and it was a really big portion. Dessert was Peanut Butter and Jelly which consisted of a housemade brioche topped with Peanut Butter ice cream and a blackberry coulis. Incredible -- it was just the right blend of flavors. Service was attentive and leisurely.

Caveat: one visit only The short version: absolutely miserable server, mixed verdict on food, wine only ok, no access to Atrium or garden permitted. Exceptional hostess Lea and some excellent soup each net a star. The longer version: Server Kierre (#1026 per receipt): either: 1) was having a bad day, 2) hates her job, 3) hates her life, and/or 4) disliked me intensely. I'm a friendly person, and usually get it back, so I tend to notice when I don't (it's pretty darn rare.) I offered at least 5 "thank yous" during the course of the meal, hoping to break the ice. She didn't acknowledge any of them with word or even eye contact. I genuinely don't believe I did anything that would set anyone off. My personal suspicion: She's not a happy person and/or was having bad day + I think she judged me by the way I looked/was dressed (casually sexy, more beachy LA, not so Portlandish.). She was nicer to my companion (89) but not by a lot. Shortly after sitting down, before any order was taken, I did ask her for re-seating further from the door (very politely, and perhaps not firmly enough.) There were at least 4 tables available further from the door (2 two-tops and 2 booths.) My senior companion was getting a strong chill on her head/neck. I saw her repeatedly fussing with her jacket to try to cover herself. Our server's reply was to point out the A/C was probably the culprit and suggest that I switch seats with her. I was surprised by her resistance to re-seating but I did. I wore no jacket, and so froze throughout our meal. As a result, we skipped the dessert we'd intended to have, along with a second glass of wine. (NOTE: We went to Salt & Straw for dessert instead, where their friendly counter service vastly exceeded the service at Noble Rot.) My freezing was better than the alternative, but not a really helpful solution. (Suggestion to restaurant: Fixing/redirecting the overpowering AC blast that hits one seat at the 2-top across from the booth nearest the atrium entrance would be a better idea.) When I asked a question about the menu, I got an answer with attitude. I did get the sense that the restaurant was catering to several larger parties that night. The only saving grace was hostess Lea. She was so charming. Friendly, smiling - I should have asked her for the re-seating. She was pitching in to help the servers, and generally working harder (and with a happier attitude!) than anyone else in the dining room. View/ambiance: This is their asset, but if you're coming for the atrium or garden seating, call ahead to ask them to guarantee it. The night we visited, the entire atrium and outdoor area was off-limits due to a large private party. We couldn't even SEE the outdoor area, let alone enjoy it. The view from the main restaurant area is unexciting, although the decor is fun. During the course of our entire meal, the Atrium/outdoor area was empty save for two super-early-arriving guests who milled about aimlessly waiting for a much larger party. As I'd requested outdoor seating on our reservation (we came primarily for the view/ambiance) we had another reason to be disappointed (NOTE: they called me the day before to confirm the reservation, but did not indicate that our seating request could not be accommodated.) Food: Hit-and-miss. The fresh soup of the day was deceptively simple and yet amazing. The rest, including the wine, was ok to good, but unremarkable. Verdict: I definitely can't recommend to my Portland family and friends (I had hoped to) and probably wouldn't return myself. If I did, I'd call ahead to guarantee seating, be careful where I sat, and order only the things that seem to come primarily from the on-site garden. But that seems like a lot of work....so I think this spot has promise, but is ultimately a FAIL for me. It's also VERY rare that I leave a tip under 18%, but I think we did here. P.S. If you have a party larger than 4, I think you absolutely want to make a reservation, and you want to call to confirm special requests/seating.

My new favorite. Outdoor and indoor seating available. It gives of a really modern and high class vibe but the prices were average/affordable and the view from the 4th floor is spectacular. The service we received was both attentive and friendly and we will be frequenting this place from now on!

Seated outside, the view of sunset was gorgeous, great selections of wines and the server was very knowledgeable about the wine. Food was very creative, loved the beets salad with endive, needed a little twist for poached salmon with a bed of garlic spears. (My opinion). Only complain (or more like my desire) I had was wish they took us to a rooftop tour, said on website available on Tuesday happy hour and it wasn't crazy busy when we were there, and we spent good $$$ (two bottles of wine) and some dishes, and wanted to show it to my friend from San Francisco...

Went there for the view and the wine (room temp warm) & had a nice enough experience except were relegated to bar (backs to view) while row of booth tables sat vacant that would have made this a potential five star experience. When called in advance was told no reservations needed (and clearly none were), but their website talks about the view and to make those ordering wine and apps (and spending over $100) sit at the bar when we would have spent $200+ had we been seated in one of the vacant booths...

Salmon entree was amazing. Actually the best cooked salmon I have had in a long time. Highly recommend! The chicken special was pretty heavily salted but we tend to shy away from salt so it may be palatable for others. The wine flights and amazing and server knowledge top notch. Keith made this review jump from a 3 to a 4 with his friendliness, knowledge and by just being a great waiter. All in all, I'll be back...just not quite 5 stars.

DISCLAIMER: This is a long one! WOW, I could not wait to get home and write this review. What an amazing experience. We were looking for a rooftop bar for dinner during our family vacation in Portland, so naturally I turned to the Yelp gods. From start to finish all three of us were WOWED. First off, they have their OWN rooftop garden, from which the herbs and veggies are used on the menu items. Secondly, they have their own aquifer (the tap water around Portland tastes like pool water). We loved this because my boyfriend's family has their own aquifer as well so we are major water snobs. It was heaven finally having some good, healthy water to drink. Service: Our waiter (I can't remember his name!) was fabulous. We had a million questions and he answered them all honestly and thoroughly. He was very attentive without being overbearing. We loved him! Food: Every single thing we put in our mouths was to die for. We enjoyed a few bottles of the 2009 L'Ecole No. 41, Columbia Valley (Cab Sauv) which was amazing. We had a lovely cheese plate to start, which paired nicely with the wine. I ordered the Roof Salad with herb vinaigrette, all ENTIRELY from their rooftop garden. Needless to say it was the best salad I have ever eaten in my life. I paired that with the special of the night which was a beef stew (not as thick), very light and healthy, also made with veggies from the garden. My boyfriend ordered the King salmon, summer squash, pickled onion, couscous, with a basil puree (from the garden of course). I am not a fan of cooked salmon but I had a bite and it was melt in your mouth delish. My sister ordered the Noble salad: butter lettuce, red onion, sunflower seeds; vinaigrette and the special of the night which was a mushroom risotto. Both AMAZING. After all of that, we got our bill and our jaws dropped from how reasonably priced it was! 2 bottles of wine and dinner for 3 was less than $150 (we came from the bay area where one drink and some bar nuts will cost ya). Wish we had a place like that here, I would go all the time (maybe we do and I just need to search for it!).

What a fabulous meal! From the appetizers (cheese and olives) to the desert (rhubarb and mango crisp with basil ice cream) we were delighted. Very friendly service and a great view of the city. My favorite were the salads which featured greens and flowers grown on the rooftop garden. I will be back.

Best service in Portland and I am a stickler for service. Wish I could give more than 5 Stars. If you go during the summer (or on a nice day) they will give you a tour of the rooftop garden. Ladies- do not wear heels (wedges ok) but your heels will sink in the roof. You also have to climb a upright ladder so don't wear a skirt/dress. I got a show from the poor girl ahead of me, bless her heart. The food is always to die for and the menu is always changing. I have never left without the daily pasta (always SOOO AMAZING, I crave it all the time). Their pork belly lettuce wraps are equally amazing. We got the cheese plate, egg in a hole and the steak frites before as well, all so unique and good. I say unique because its even though they are simple things, they are seasoned and presented so well. Mychal the bartender is beyond amazing. He is very knowledge and you can tell her loves his job. Go you wont be disappointed. Not to mention there are always beautiful views of Portland. Oh PS get the peanut butter and jelly desset..... so good! YUM

I've heard good things about Noble Rot from a couple friends. I finally got the opportunity to go with some friends. We came around 7:15pm and I was pleasantly surprised that there wasn't a wait for a table--I don't know if it's because it's a weekday or that people haven't quite figured out that this awesome spot exist. The decor is very chic and trendy. Love the large windows, you get a gorgeous view of the city from every table in the restaurant. It's a fancy restaurant and people are dressed nice, but not at all pretentious. Extremely courteous service. Food was ridiculous good. I had the Endive salad which had blue cheese, hazelnuts and beets. Shared french fries, onion rings, macaroni and cheese with my friends. I have to rave about the onion rings! It was fried perfectly, you bite into it and the batter doesn't fall apart--it's light and not greasy that you don't hate yourself after you eat it. My friend ordered the Creme Brulee, it was so creamy and smooth. She said it was the best she has ever had and I'll have to concur. Everything was delicious! I reheated the leftover macaroni and cheese for lunch today, it still had a crisp crust on top and tasted good the day after. Noble Rot, I'm definitely going to be back but please don't get too popular in the mean time!

For the setting and atmosphere, I would compare this to the likes of Portland City Grill, East side edition. A nice view and I would say unique in that matter, not the standard side of the river and downtown. So yeah, this place is cute. I love that they tend to use produce from their garden when in season. Super cool! Their food menu seemed a bit limited for a restaurant, but they still had mac & cheese, which was good with me. I also tried a wine flight which was fun and I got to try some different wines I wouldn't normally order on my own. I think this is a better place to go and grab a drink as opposed to go and sit down for dinner.

This place was able to seat a large group of us for Sunday evening get together. The good, service, the view, patio. Drunk selection and prices were okay. The menu had variety, but was so high folutant that it was intimidating. Special pasta which bf had was way over priced. Portions were small. Not much value for your buck, but that is probably typical in this neighborhood.

Best view of Portland. Great service with friendly servers. The food was pretty bad. The burgers were soaked in grease and the patty crumbled apart. The patty had no flavor either. The fries were thin and few to be seen.

The food and service was horrible. The panino I ordered was way too salty. Even tried the butternut squash panino and it was way too dry! Only thing great about this place is their drinks and view. Other than that, I would suggest saving your tummy for somewhere else.

This is based on drinks only. Quick efficient service. The flavor profile of the frisk were thoughtful and presented well. I had the sex on the roof and it was well balanced and not too sweet. The view is cool for an east side joint. The decor is trying too hard like Vegas, but I was there for the view. Large 6 person booths. I will be back to try the food. They have a rooftop garden and use their harvest for the restaurant.

One of my best dining experiences ever! That's saying a lot. Everything about this place was perfect. Even when our reservation got screwed up, it wasn't an issue. Even when they didn't have a table for us. The awesome hostess rallied and made it happen and while we didn't get on the rooftop patio like we wanted, we had a booth inside with a spectacular view. Complete with fireworks at the end of the night too. Brilliant! Everything here was incredible. The food is so fresh, since they grow a lot of it on their roof, (being a rooftop gardener myself, this is something I hold dear). Very innovative and creative dishes filled with flavor and surprise. Biting into their thick cut house made bacon is not something I'll forget anytime soon. A must get is the rot meat plate - I hear it changes quite a bit, but you're in for a treat if you're a carnivore. I had the the butter poached halibut, with radish, fava beans, fennel; carrot & sorrel salad and it was hard to share with the BF. Thankfully he ordered something equally amazing so it made it less painful to cut in half. BF had the king salmon, rhubarb glazed pork belly, black lentils, carrots & pea tendrils. There's just something about salmon and pork belly together. It's perfection. The wine and cocktail list is superb! I stuck to wine and enjoyed several varietals, but my favorite was the white burgundy flight. VERY generous pours for 3 gorgeous wines for $14. Are you even kidding me? BF was smitten with every cocktail he had. All were scotch and whiskey based and quite delicious. Dessert was shared by all at the table, so there was more to love. Peanut butter & jelly, which I can't begin to describe other than it was wicked and wonderful. A must have! The ice cream sandwich with dark chocolate cookie, graham cracker ice cream & meringue - stupid good and the black pepper profiteroles with strawberry ice cream; balsamic caramel - what a combination! Service was excellent, the vibe is chill and relaxed and again, the view cannot be beat. A truly fabulous experience.

Three strikes and you are out. Consistently mediocre food (in a city over run with great restaurants) and abysmal service have really sunk Noble Rot for me. Waiting ten mins to get a wine list, having our server forget to order some of our apps, cold food etc. just doesn't cut it. Yes they have a great view but that is simply not enough.

This is my favorite restaurant in Portland, next to Meriwether's. What I love about Noble Rot is that it's different from many of Portland's nice, expensive, trendy restaurants in that it's on the top floor of a nondescript building on east Burnside and the views from the east side are actually spectacular. Everyone kind of assumes the best views in Portland are from west to east because you can see Mt. Hood but I'd argue this one is pretty amazing with the river and downtown. Not only are the service and views impeccable, but literally everything was divine - the drinks, the compressed watermelon salad, my fish entree and the panne cotta with a dessert wine trio to finish. I can't say enough good things about Noble Rot and I can't wait to go back.

I am only taking one star away because it is getting so crowded which can be frustrating. This does not take away from the yummy food, drinks and view. My girlfriends and I have gathered here on numerous occasions. Besides the wine, they also have fabulous drinks with the entertaining HUGE ice cubes. At my last visit, I had a tomato salad - tomatoes grown on the rooftop - amazing and my friend had a tuna entree which she called exquisite. The view is divine. The service was a little bit slow, which is fine as long as you want to hang out and visit with friends. I would recommend reservations, if you can get them - even on a "slow" day. The next time I tried to visit was on a Sunday night and there was going to be a 45 min wait without reservations, so we went somewhere else.

Rot it's not! Stopped in for happy hour and had a delightful experience. We sat at a window table with a nice view of Portland and it's west hills. Bonus: a storm was rolling in and we got to watch that too. The butter lettuce salad and onion rings were delicious and priced right. The beer was cold and the choices were diverse enough to be interesting, and the wine list is extensive; if you are unsure which deliciousness to try, you can order a taster flight. The staff was pleasant and welcoming. We didn't feel hurried or pressured to order more. Good eats. Good drinks. Good value. Good ambiance. Noble Rot has earned a future return visit. Rot is hot!

I've been to Noble Rot 3x -- I would recommend that you go for drinks/the cool, "hidden gem" atmosphere, but skip the food, because it is consistently disappointing. On my last visit our table ordered 2 steak frites and they both came out cold -- not luke warm, but cold. How could the kitchen send them out like that?!? Bizzare. The kitchen tried to "fix" them, but they returned still cold, but rubbery?!? Blech. If you should decide to try a visit, stick with the wine flights and you should be good to go.

Food is new-American inspired and okay... but you really come here for the view and the red wine. If you want a different view of the city -- on the east side looking to the west side of the river then this is the place to be.

Lovely ambience and view! The food was absolutely phenomenal! Love that their produce is locally sourced! Great for a date night or even a business dinner. The staff was friendly and efficient. For a wine bar, I was surprised with the lack of wine recommendations/knowledge from our servers.

You really can't go wrong with this place - even if you've got vegans, gluten-frees or medium-sized children in the mix. Noble Rot is in a little bit of a weird location for a Portland standard, with most of our swank being concentrated in the Pearl, but it's not technically out of the way. In fact, I probably drove by it a bazillion times without ever knowing it was there. It's right on Burnside before it meets Sandy so it's easy to miss. Plus, it's one of those "go in a random building, kind of, then up an elevator, and then there's the restaurant" type restaurants, which is confusing if you're me and have a sense of direction that's entirely driven by landmarks (turn right at the strip club with the ironic marquee, then left right before that one painted school bus that never goes anywhere). Anyway. Due to the aforementioned elevator, it's got a pretty swell view. And, the atmosphere can't be beat - it's one of the few places in Portland that can be described as truly swanky. It's intimate and there's an actual *gasp* coat rack for your military-inspired trench coats, repurposed punk denims, pimp furs and standard pea coats. Which really wouldn't set it apart in any other city - but Portland's restaurants are weirdly obsessed with forcing you to fold your damp outerwear on your lap while you eat, so a coat rack (or heavens to betsy, a real actual coat CHECK) is much appreciated by this diner. On to the food. It was good, well-curated, and beautifully presented. Everything we ordered was seasonal, save for the pasta and beef. The cocktails were well-mixed, and I would come back to try the wine flights I keep hearing so much about. But like a lot of others said, everything seemed to be just a titch too overpriced. Take the pasta and beef, for example. Plain white egg noodles with somewhat unimaginatively prepared shredded beef. I was not impressed, especially to the tune of $30+. Meh. All that being said, if you have some Fancy People coming from out of town, or an anniversary dinner of some sort, or just generally enjoy impressing other people with atmosphere, Noble Rot is a great choice. I'd come back for a happy hour, provided it wasn't too crowded, or even a dinner - they take reservations which is another Portland rarity, which I appreciate deeply.

When considering a review I try to be realistic and consider, ambiance, pricing, taste, wait time, service, etc etc etc. This place is outstanding. The menu is brief and simple, while the taste is complex and delicious. The place is down to earth and you feel at home. The pricing is a good value considering the portions and qualify of food you get-it's actually quite a bargain. The staff are AMAZING! The wait time was non-existent...we did have reservations and they were right on time to welcome us. (Allow some extra time to find a parking spot.) The Noble Rot is my new favorite...I can't wait to share it with out of town guests.

Tonight's visit to Noble Rot was disappointing. The cheese plate was tasty, and the endive salad was good, if a bit on the garlicky side. But then it was followed by an expensive braised beef that was so fatty that every bite was slimy. I ate only the polenta around it. Our server's response was "well it is a fatty cut of meat". Anyway, we then moved on to creme brulee which, sadly, was burnt. Our server was polite enough, but not extraordinary. The view was amazing. I'm no wine connoisseur, but enjoyed my flight and glass.

This place is hit-and-miss for me. I've had a risotto so unctuous and savory, a potato puree soup so smooth and rich, and a creative roasted squash entrée assembled with interesting vegetables and seeds that have been very good. I also recall a cake and ice cream dessert that was a fun take on peanut butter and jelly. But, I've also had a disappointing cheese and charcuterie plate, sub-par beef dish, and wasn't impressed by the almonds and olives. The ambiance is lovely, with a nice view of Portland's skyline, white table cloths, candles, and friendly service. But at their prices, and with inconsistent food, there are better places. I also found their water to have a soapy taste to it. Apparently they get it from their very own aquifer, and I find it strange they brag about this seeing as Portland water is better. I'd come back here for a special occasion if I was with someone I wanted to impress, but not necessarily wow with food. There is better food out there, but Noble Rot is still a good restaurant in its own right. It's worth checking out if you have not, but I wouldn't add it to my list of go-to's. Maybe I'd like it better if I drank wine.

I had heard of this place through a friend. My wife, sister-in-law and I arrived at the restaurant at about 6. We did not have reservations. They gave us a table and said we needed to be done by 8. The table was reserved by someone else at that time. We started with drinks and olives. Specialty drinks were very good. I decided to try the three draft beers on tap. All three were tasty. Our wait staff was great also. Especially Mychal, kudos to you. You made our visit super. Now to the food. Mac & Cheese was very very tasty, it has horseradish in it. This gives it that unique twist. Highly recommend. All our dishes were well put together and great tasting. Steak Frites,Salmon & Pork Belly and Fettuccine Shrimp & peas from there garden. Finally, We ordered a special dessert that was just for that night. Angel food cake with lavender, lemon curd, blueberries, and mint. Heavenly! All in all, I would most definitely recommend this restaurant to all. :)

    I. LOVE. THEIR. BURGER. Get it. You won't regret it. Their mac and cheese is decent too, but really. Do yourself a favor and get the burger. It will blow your mind. The view of downtown is spectacular. This is a cute date spot, and a great spot to sit outside during the summer. Their desserts are pretty tasty too--I think last time we had the brownie or something like that, but really, all I can remember is the tastiness of that burger. Make a reservation--this place fills up quick.

We brought my daughter to Noble Rot last week for a birthday celebration dinner, and got reminded why we love this place so much. First, the location / views / ambience are all wonderful. Since it was 95 degrees out, we opted to stay inside rather than dine on the patio this time. We began with one of the (several) wine flights offered, this one all French rose's. Every one was a winner, a perfect way to beat the heat and settle into a cool evening. It just continued to get better from there. Although the menu is not extensive, there's a good variety to meet most appetites and preferences. The secret at Noble Rot is in their execution - spot on! Every dish, from appetizers to entree's to creme brulee', impressed - first the eye, then the palate. Yum! Standouts for us were the salmon, flatiron steak, and lamb chops. This is not the least expensive dining option in town, but we share the blame for that since we got a little carried away and didn't want the evening to end. Beware! May be habit forming.

All my stars go to the wine list. Service is terrible. 15 minutes to put in a wine order. 35 minutes for a food order that never came and 20 minutes for a check. Overall the feeling I get is the staff doesn't care about customers. It will take a couple years before I consider this place again or ever recommend it.

Drinks are good but not great. The view is nice and for the east side is as vertical as you can get to see the city. But so many other places to choose from. Food is middle of the road.

Stellar view of the Portland skyline from Southeast vantage point. Nice selection of wines. Last time I went, I wasn't crazy about the wine I drank but that was probably my fault. I should have asked the wait staff about it first. The new location up on the hill over Burnside is top of the pops, yo. Great place for a classy date. Hit Noble Rot and then sashay down Burnside a few blocks to dine at The Farm. Or just eat at the Rot. The food is quite good.

Simply not a better view in Portland. With a craft cocktail menu to die for, fresh produce from the rooftop garden, and wine flights galore Noble Rot offers a low key, elegant, mid-century feel without a hint of pretension. Plus, they have Squirt. I love Squirt.

Came here during memorial weekend. View: Great, the downtown/ china town? view Food: 1) pasta of the day: $18 shrimp w/ garden basil and pea. The pasta was bit hard, they should had cooked or simmered 1 min more.... However, it was pretty fresh and I did like it . The portion is a bit small compared to regular US pasta portion 2) Ham sandwich, it was ok , regular ham from supermarket and cheese. If you like the taste of homemade ham sandwich. U will like it

Noble Rot is a bit of an oasis in a city that loves to be funky, hip and ya know, weird. I'm all for that, but whether life is feeling a little tough or hella awesome, there are times you need a glass of champagne, a server without attitude and a kick-ass view. You would think the food would be subpar with the stellar view but the kitchen is actually sending out some very solid items. The burger is always a great choice. My friend had the smoked sable mousse and loved it. Sadly, the waitress described it as, "Kinda like tuna salad, but chef would kill me for saying that". Ok, so maybe the servers need a little more work but at least she knew she was throwing chef under the bus. My friends also got the cheese plate, mussels and french fries and everyone was satisfied. You can go big or basic at Noble Rot. There are great wine flights and lots of bottles (we got a lovely and reasonable priced bottle of champagne for my friends birthday), but there's also happy hour if you don't want to break the budget. And that's the thing overall about Noble Rot - it can kind of be whatever you want. Girls night out? Check. Impress out of town visitors? Definitely. Romantic date night? Well, personally, I'm still working on that one. But when I find a man in Portland with a job and without a grizzly adams beard, that's definitely where we're going to go!

First visit last weekend. The service is impeccable and there are very few restaurants that I would say this about. Our cocktails were very good. Everything we ate was delicious. The menu is creative while including all the great foods we know and love taken to the next level. We were in a bit of a rush grabbing dinner prior to a concert, would of liked to have more time to relax and enjoy dessert. If you want to sit on the patio for the best view definitely make a reservation. Part of the patio was enclosed so not too breezy, which is nice. I saw many tables with bread and butter which was not offered to us but we did not ask figuring we didn't need the extra calories. The decor is very cool, with a Madmen retro vibe, but the noise level did get very high when the room was full, and I was suprised I didn't hear any background music, but maybe it was down low? We will be back, with a reservation and more time. Highly recommend.

GREAT food and an AMAZING view....but...the prices leave me sour. 2 appetizers, 1 dish, 2 flights of wine were 85 bucks. The average glass of wine is 14 bucks. I think that is really steep in my opinion...but hey...it is just MY opinion ;)

Cool view. I love their beet salad and the fact that they grow their own vegetables in a greenhouse on their rooftop.

Really enjoyed going to Noble Rot. The location, decor, and view are great. I ordered the endive salad and the rare tuna. We also had some tasty marinated olives and some french bread and butter. All really good. Their twist on peanut butter and jelly was a good closer as well. At the end of the meal I ordered a flight of botrytis wines which never appeared, so minus one star for that gaffe, but I'll certainly be back again. Service was otherwise good.

Fantastic date night spot. Noble Rot has an incredible view, perfect lighting, comfortable oversized booths, and a great menu. We were sat at a large booth and came for drinks and snacks. Our service was very good. The waiter was knowledgeable and had no problem with us sitting at a booth and not ordering dinner. We had already ate, but many people were eating dinner and the food looked good. I love that they have Wine Flights. I had the Oregon Pinot Noir flight and all of my wines were good. Their cocktail list is short, but is creative and well executed. My husband had the The Elder Statesman, which was gin, elderflower, and sage, and was delicious. The Lucifer's Billfold was also delicious and the perfect winter cocktail. Think spiced Manhattan, this drink is rye, black mission fig, all spice and ruby port, and can warm anyone up on a cold night. I also had an amazing glass of bubbly Brut Rose, and a fantastic Port wine flight. The 1991 Port was by far the best I've ever tasted. So good. They also have Cognac flights and a multitude of dessert wines and cordials. We snacked on almonds and marinated olives for $4 each, and they were great. The house marinated olives are the best marinated olives I've ever had, they have a fantastic thyme and citrus marinade. Be sure to try them with your wine. The dessert menu looked delicious as well, next time we come we will be sure to have dinner here. The only complaint I can say is that the Host was very intense and not friendly. I wish he would have smiled and been a bit more welcoming in the start of our experience.

Great atmosphere, amazing service, wonderful hidden secret. I should come here on a regular basis, and I will now. Beautiful skyline view and great food, I suggest the asparagus, oyster mushrooms, poached egg, herb bread crumbs, it was absolutely delectable!!!

Noble Rot is a beautiful wine bar with one of the best sunset views of Portland from their 4th floor veranda. Also notable is there rooftop garden where they grow some of their own greens and herbal ingredients. We stopped by for a quick dinner and while the food was fresh and well prepared you couldn't help but feel you were paying more for the atmosphere and view. 1) The Pork Belly Lettuce Wrap was good and refreshingly complimented with their pickled vegetables and mango slaw. While I would have preferred a slightly more fatty cut of pork belly the dish is great for a light dinner. 2) The Rot Meat and Cheese plate offers a fantastic pairing of exotic meats and uncommon cheeses, a must order starter. 3) The Avocado Soup topped with Tuna Tartar was better in my head than in the bowl. The soup base was bland except for the few bites accompanied by the tuna tartar. Not really worth the price. Overall the food is just 3.5 stars but the fact that this is a well regarded wine bar and the group wasn't in the mood for wine, I will give it the benefit of the doubt that we missed some key elements of the Noble Rot dining experience. Will look forward to giving it a second try next time in Portland.

I arrived at the airport last night after a week in Montana and Rebecca headed to one of our favorite places for dinner. They were too busy, so we stopped in here. We had not been here for a long time and not sure why. We had a wonderful meal. Noble Rot has a wonderful deck with a great view of downtown Portland and the west hills. We have been to their old location a number of times. One of our favorite items on the menu is their onion tart. It is still excellent. We had their Noble salad. It was designed to look like a rose and very nicely done. The dressing was a blue cheese vinaigrette. It had a good delicate flavor and did not over power the greens. Our meat dish was a lamb sirloin, cooked to perfection accompanied by a cooked stuffed tomato. We also had cooked peach. This is a place that normally sells its wines in flights, which is a great way to sample different wines. However, we saw a nice wine from the Minervois, so we gave it a try. It worked great. The price was also very good and very fair. All in all, it was a perfect homecoming. Great location, wonderful food, fair price, perfect company. Back again; another great meal. We just love their onion tart and always start with it. The food was great. The service was great. Th wine was great. The price was fair. It met all of our expectations. Come on in.

We had a flight of the red wines which were all exquisite, ranging from velvety to tart to smoky. Just delightful. We also enjoyed the cheese plate which was small but excellent and diverse. Don't come for a hip scene; this location is a bit obscure and not for a younger crowd. Come for the gracious atmosphere and intimacy --an excellent date spot.

I was so excited to try this place for the first time. we went there for Happy Hour, the Almond was good but the Olives were dyed red and were tasteless! then I ordered a burger, medium well, it came out burnt, the bread and meat both were blackend with the bad smell, so I told the waiter and he said, how about you keep the fries and I get yiu another burger here he came with another burnt burger, with no fries. there was no way I could eat that burger, it was so black and burnt. my friend also got one and his was tbe same way. then when the waiter came and asked us if we want to take our burgers home, I was like, no thanks. and I told him that the sefond one was burnt too, then he said I am sorry that you did not like the taste of our burger. .. anyway, they never accepted that and they told me I was wrong. so much for customer service here, I would never go back.

If you want the douchey hipster version of Portland, this is your place. For $25-$30 a plate, the food is inconsistent at best (though it is nice that they offer a $12 burger option for your poor friends) and the service is entitled, like I should be lucky they just let me in. Next time, I'll stick to old world Portland at a place like Higgins.

Noble Rot is the ultimate date night spot. With views of Portland's beautiful downtown, come here at sunset and watch the city lights decorate the night. While the prices are a bit high for me, I go every now and again and think the bill is justified by the experience. I've never been let down at Noble Rot. Their wine selection, obviously, is fantastic. The servers are knowledgable about their pours, but never snooty. Though I have noticed, the bigger the group, the less attention the server gives (perhaps because of a built-in tip?). The food is always outstanding. I am a veghead, so I can't speak to the meaty entrees- but the vegetables ones have always left me wow'd. That said, I do wish there were more vegetarian options. The ingredients always taste so fresh- perhaps it's because some of them come from their rooftop garden. I think this place is a real gem. While I would recommend making a reservation, the staff is also great about accommodating patrons who show up on a whim.

I was intrigued when read in the local literature that this restaurant grew much of their produce on the roof of their building. We decided to give it a shot, and I am glad that we did. When we were seated, the host put us in a spot to give us more privacy. We also had a great view of the city, as it appeared many seats in the restaurant did. Aside from that, the service was okay, but nothing to write home about. When we got our drinks, my girlfriend got the lemonade, which tasted incredible. I got a Sprite, so it was pretty standard for Sprite. We ended up splurging and getting an appetizer, The Rot Plate. It was an assortment of the different meats in the restaurant paired with a chef recommended condiment. It was a bit pricey but it was fantastic, and I recommend it if you like meat and you are there for a special occasion. The meals we had were both very good. We had steak frites and the tuna. The tuna came with a corn based side dish that was incredible. It literally made me say "wow!" I'm from Iowa and enjoy corn... but I believe that is the first time I ever had an outburst as soon as it hit my taste buds. With an appetizer, 2 drinks, and 2 entrees, our dinner was $79.00 before tip. It's not a terribly priced meal when you consider the food, ambience... and highly accessible parking. I was torn between giving this restaurant a 4 or a 5 star rating. I ultimately gave it a 4 because for as great as it was, it fell slightly short of a restaraunt that I feel the need to go back to immediately. With that said, when I am back in the area, I will likely return.

Atmosphere is excellent from the view down to the tablecloths. Food and drinks are expensive but close to being worth it. Portions are small as I like them to be and the wait staff is excellent.

I really like this place despite a few drawbacks. The biggest drawback is the food quality to price ratio. Okay. I really like the food here. I've had multiple appetizers (fantastic cheese plate), salads are incredible, quality entrees. However. 25-30 dollars for scallops, or duck, or flat-iron with accompaniments that are perfectly fine, and that's all, is too much to pay for what we can get from other restaurants in Portland. The patio is amazing, the wine selection for the flights is ok. I'd keep coming back if they lower the prices or step up the quality of food. The service, while good, was very heavy on up-selling.

great place to sit and have a drink last night- this review is not about dinner. bar was full but they gave us a beautiful table by the window, 9pm so after dinner rush, it was pretty quite. We were just having drinks so we ordered by our friendly waitress who didn't judge me for knowing nothing about whiskey except that i like and and i don't want to pay much. the drinks didn't come for probably 10 minutes, which was a bit odd in a quite place, but we were just chatting and not too bothered. instead of having to ask about where our drinks where, the waitress came over and said she was sorry they were taking so long (it really didn't feel that long) and said they were on the house.... well that's a good business model. i've waited a LOT longer for a dink in this town and usually i'm made to feel like I"M the inpatient one, so we were impressed by their willingness to please us. we also had the brownie sundae which was out of this world. really you can't beat the ambiance, view and vibe in my mind. we will be back to check out dinner, although i will say, the menu is pretty small in my opinion and not cheap.... but we'll give it a go since it's such a nice place to spend a few hours.

Incredible!! Absolutely amazing food with stellar service. Dealt with my obnoxious food restrictions with grace and panache. The steak was melt-in-your-mouth perfect; Paired stunningly with the Rioja flight. The rooftop salad is not to be missed! Gorgeous! I will recommend this establishment highly and return myself when I'm in need of a good treat. So tasty!!

  • Kelly S.

Avoid the Braised Beef!! It is burnt and the sauce is over reduced. Meat was extremely fatty also for being braised- fat is supposed to melt off in to the sauce, not be conjealed into every bite of the meat fibers that weren't burnt. Two people at our 6 top ordered the braise and we immediately started discussing our disappointment and others at the table agreed it was not good. Spoke to waitress about the dishes but she just claimed it was caramelized!! Nope, it was burnt! I've made braised beef at home and never had this taste before. Why? Cuz I don't burn the beef!! Was a really nice night beside this unnecessary mess. Boy am I really irritated that the crappy meal cost me $28. The tip was included in the bill and the waitress did a good job otherwise. Maybe she had already had too many complaints about the beef??

  • C. W.

Dear Noble Rot, What miracle did you perform to justify charging $13 for mac and cheese? Does it feed a table of table of 6? Did you add truffled lobster? Did you use gold flecks in place of the golden yellow powder? I ask only because your menu simply lists this item as "mac & cheese," leading me to believe that you are insane if you think I'm going to pay $13 for mac and cheese. Sincerely, Not insane Also, your wine was all 'meh' at best. Shame. Shame. Shame. The price were high enough for you to serve really good wines. That deck must be lovely in the warmer months.

Wine list is impeccable, food is delicious (especially happy hour!), patio is gorgeous in nice weather. The only downside is that it's often crowded (so I'd highly recommend a reservation), and the staff is not always friendly.

The views at this place are wonderful. I wish I could come back at nighttime to see the lights in he city. I had the special pasta of the day, which had sausage in it. It was just the right amount and I neither felt hungry or full. I also had a sparkling wine that was just sweet enough for my tastebuds. In all, it was a relaxing dinner.

My friend and I were deciding between Noble Rot, which we'd heard about for years and never managed to visit, and Slow Burger, which we both love, for happy hour. The new experience--Noble Rot--won out and boy was I grateful. Wonderful drinks ($3.50 wine for happy hour, by the way), great cheese plate and a burger that won my heart. The waitress said, "I dream about that burger and still crave it after working here for two years." Right she was. Dreams of beef will ensue.

Great view...you must be a super foodie to like this place, which I am. Odd, creative foods. The staff is just as excited to serve them to you as you will be to eat them! I enjoyed the Willamette wine flights. An opportunity to try 4 different reds without getting schnockered. An excellent food experience. Not for picky eaters.

Pros: Great view, delicious food, AMAZING desserts, lovely wine selection, pleasant staff. Cons: A bit overpriced and we had to deal with a computer error where we were charged twice. It pended in our account for a week. Yikes!! I am a fan though. Maybe I'll just share a meal and pay with cash next time. Or go for wine and dessert!

Dinner was romantic and the restaurant is beautiful, with a great view. The food was delicious but a little heavy for what we had a taste for that night. We started with a great cheese plate and a flight of Oregon pinot noir's. We ordered the braised beef and a squash/zucchini dish.

Best pasta I've had in my life the two times I have been. Will absolutely make this a stop everytime I make it up to Portland. Price is worth every morsel, the wine is fine, the view is outstanding.

Disappointing overall. We were seated at 7:30 pm, and a few minutes later we learned that they were already out of their Soup of the Day, which is only one of two specials that they offer. Waiter was supercilious and pushy (he tried to convince everyone to get a salad with their meal). The french fries were disgustingly salty and poorly presented. Squash dish was lukewarm and over seasoned. Shrimp gratin and cod were good, but both way too salty. 3 out of 4 desserts that we ordered were good (I'd skip the creme brûlée...very average and not worth the $7). Pb&j was yummy (bread pudding, raspberry jam, and peanut butter ice cream).

  • Alexander M.

The view was wonderful, as were the cocktails. The food, generally, was average but overpriced. The gazpacho was fresh but more peppery than I thought it would be. Service was congenial but slow. For dessert we got a salted chocolate tart, which was virtually inedible; the crust was tough and chewy and the chocolate was WAY over salted.

Noble Rot, in a word is noble. Unlike the Noble Rot fungus that attacks the grape to produce a sweet wine. This Noble Rot has mastered itself in Portland's sustainable culinary delights. The Food: our party had the Puréed Onion Soup - Fantastic , Endive Blue Cheese Salad - Superb, Boston Salad - Good The entree's We're just phenomenal...... Wild mushroom and egg tart, ribs ( yes ribs) and truly out of this world was the wild salmon. The service: Well if I were back in Miami, the service wouldn't have survived. It would have cost the restaurant big time, mainly because in Miami, the customer is rarely right. The jails are full of pissed off customers. Here in Portland, I think civility and kindness brought me down a notch. Service started out strong, are server her eyes gleamed when she talked about the food at Noble Rot, she was angelic and displayed confidence; however, she was also assisting the bartender so we lost her and not for a short while, but a long while. Our wine glasses were empty and the wait staff was walking by us like a bad smell. Our lovely angelic waitress was behind the bar assisting the other bartender. THE IDEA: Just as every great disaster in life comes a brilliant idea, I think this idea should be copied, and used to tell restaurants who have servers, who are blind, deaf and dumb, that we really appreciate them. I used to do this when I was 12 and yes trouble would follow, this time my moment of brilliance got us quick and apologetic service, and I got to try someone, something I have done in a while. I don't think Portlanders try enough people as you all are to nice. The Deployment of the Plan: My brilliant idea, instead of begging for service, as servers near and far walked by, call the restaurant and watch the poor Schlub who answers the phone squirm. Our table needs help as the hapless line began. Our Schlub, who I'll name Darwin, after the science teacher, since he looked like the missing link, graciously answered the phone and went on a search for our table as I pleaded for help, it was like the game of "Hot and Cold" . Sadly our food arrived while we were playing, and then the fun began. Yes like Romney likes to fire people, I like to call people on the carpet. But, the moment they say your right, I feel wrong, and our angelic waitress did just that, she successfully defended that star I wanted to take away. It was the time that it took to bring the food out, it was the tween time, when wine glasses are empty and you see everyone else around you downing it like there's no tomorrow. But take note, you can't get your waiter or waitress, don't raise your hand or genuflect like a fiend, make a phone call, make them search you out, you'll get a laugh, I can assure you they won't!

Should have made dinner at home for valentine's day. Me and my husband were so disappointed by the food. The starter was a fried white rice ball, then it was a chicken sandwich with chips (wtf!), then the flat iron steak tasted charcoal, finally the dessert was not impressive at all and required a dental instrument to pick it out of your teeth. On a positive note the drinks and the views were excellent but definitely not worth $167 for two.

Came here tonight for dinner. I ordered a dish called carrot ginger halibut. It was amazing. The halibut sat on a bed of black rice. This place is really good. I've been here a few times and it's a beautiful restaurant with great food and drinks and an amazing view of the city. I definitely recommend.

If you are looking for creative, craftily made, and delicious cocktails, look no further than the Nobel rot, where the bartender Mychal will stir you up a wonderful concoction. Our server Christine was very helpful and pleasant, plus you can beat the view! Check it out if your ever in Portland!

If you want a view of the city with your drink, this is the place you want to be on a nice day. Limited seating outside, so plan ahead (reservations or call to check). A nice hybrid atmosphere, a little wine-bar swank, a little blue-jeans casual. The menu is a hybrid too - you can go with fancy and delicate or down home hearty.

Disappointing. Had high hopes for this place based on all the reviews & made a special effort to be there. Arrived for happy hour as a single business traveler. Enjoyed my prime bar-room seat overlooking the city, but missed out on the rooftop experience due to rain. The view was nice but not what I'd call spectacular. The couches and open bar seating area are well laid out, but the overall atmosphere is somewhat sterile and non-descript. There were four wine flights available; 3 whites from France and then 3 reds each from Oregon (Pinot Noirs), Italy, and Argentina, respectively. Most places that tout themselves as a "wine bar" have more than four flight selections -- most I've been to have anywhere from six to ten flight selections if it's an actual wine bar. Certainly more than one white wine flight would seem appropriate, especially if travelers like me are looking to try or support Oregon wines (not just the Pinot Noirs). If you're going to have a limited flight selection in a wine bar, then there should be a wide, extensive wine selection of wines by the glass. Again, this was a major disappointment. The wine selection by the bottle was decent, but the choices of wine by the glass were limited. I guess they try to cater to dinner crowds who will purchase a bottle with a meal. But again, if you're a "wine bar" and many don't come for dinner, then I'd think you'd have more of a wine "bar" selection by the glass. Wine bars I've been to have extensive choices for flights & wines by the glass. My server could not have been more detached or dis-interested when I was first seated & I had to flag him down (there was no crowd) to order an appetizer (a good, not great pannini). During my visit, the entire staff seemed more pre-occupied with their own conversations than with customers. However, my server did redeem himself as I was departing. For some reason, he became much more conversational then and was extremely helpful in terms of other recommendations for the evening. If he had been as friendly and attentive when I was first seated & when I was debating about appetizers, then I probably would've stayed for more wine and maybe even dinner (locals said their dinners were very good). In any event, you might want to go to see the rooftop area (which I missed) & maybe try a wine flight or some Happy Hour munchies with wine. I won't be back though.

Fantastic place. Love it. Their endive and beet salad is my favorite. The chunks of blue cheese and hazelnuts are addicting. The port and white dessert wine flights are the best!!

This place had an amazing view. Open area yet cozy. We went on a Tuesday night and we sat right away. I ordered the grilled Caesar which was absolutely amazing. Not too oily and had a bit of the grill taste. Perfect. I also tried to fried avocado salad and the asparagus salad, both of which were also good. For a meal I got the gnocchi which was great! I actually liked the fried artichoke, peas, mushrooms, etc. service was fantastic. I would live there if I was from Portland.

Having dined at the Noble Rot several times over the years they always impressed me. However, this was the first time I had dined at their new (or not so new) location. The environment was fine, the views were good, but the service was so so. We had to order our appetizers and drinks twice because apparently the order never got put in the first time. Also it seemed like the menu was very limited compared to what I remember from many years ago. Would I go back? Sure, but I hope they improve on their service and menu.

Service was horrible even when they were not busy. The bartender paid no attention. Do not get the burger, it was under seasoned, the bun was burnt and had a sour flavor, and the fast food french fries that came with it were terrible. Ended the night watching the staff talk amongst themselves and continue to ignore patrons.

Ate here on Valentines day with my husband and we had a wonderful time. The view really can't be beat. We weren't seated directly by the windows, but it looked as if you could get a glimpse of the view from pretty much any table. And if you go at night, it really is amazing. We ate from their Valentines menu and I went ahead and did the chosen wine pairings with each course while my husband had a couple different cocktails. All of the courses were really amazing, and the wine pairings went perfectly with each dish and I'm SO glad my waitress suggested it. What really sealed the deal though was their amazing lemon tart with lime meringue, mandarin sorbet, and mixed citrus tuile. WOW. We left very happy! Also, if you're into cocktails definitely give the "sour barron" a go. One of the best egg white cocktails the both of us have had.

I don't want to be too critical of this place because overall I did enjoy my meal, but sadly my expectations weren't met. Usually service isn't a huge factor for me since the food is typically how I give my rating, but I couldn't ignore how slow everything was. I'm hoping this was due to one of the following reasons: a) I was with a large group; b) trendy restaurants expect that you want the full dining experience, which in turn leads to a lengthy dinner. I could go on and on about what I liked/ didn't like about the food, but in this case it's easier to make a comparison with another popular Portland restaurant. In my opinion Noble Rot was a less tasty version of Wildwood Restaurant & Bar, with the added ambiance and hip atmosphere. I ordered the double skin chicken and based off the name I was expecting it be crispy, fatty and greasy. It ended up being the complete opposite, which was probably for the best since I left feeling somewhat healthy after eating what really was a light meal. The flavor was so-so and I was more impressed with my salad and soup than I was with my main entrée. With that being said, I would still recommend this restaurant for a cool place to grab drinks or have happy hour. I probably need to have a 2nd dining experience here again before I decide if I would recommend it for dinner or not, so consider my review TBD

This place has a limited menu ... but in a good way! Everything is fresh, and some of the veggies they serve are grown right up on the roof. This was my second time eating here and I enjoyed it very much. My mom was in town experiencing Portland for the first time, so I brought her here for great wine and food. Beware - if you want the beautiful view from the outside deck, try to get there before it gets too chilly - since they don't have space heaters out there.

Beautiful views and a very smart interior design. The wine selection was quite good, but ultimately I would not recommend this establishment to my friends or family. Side substitutions? "Politely declined" (even with a $28 steak order). Portion sizes? Small to medium (I don't recommend that you show up hungry) Groups of six or more people? 20% gratuity added as a default. Separate checks? No. Attentive server? Also no (this could have to do with the 20% gratuity mentioned above) My partner and I spent nearly $80 to get a few small plates, soup, salad, and two glasses of wine and two draft beers. I can't say I was impressed with the value. Noble Rot is a beautiful spot to take friends, but there are many better options in Portland that provide a better value and ultimately a more enjoyable experience.

Amazing view. Food is to die for. Service was average last night, but the other times I have been have been out of this world. There is a server there who wears a wine opener charm necklace (sorry for blanking on the name)...she's the best! She describes the menu and wine in such an artistic fashion...she really makes your whole experience unbelievable. We didn't have her last night unfortunately which leads to 4 stars. I like consistent top notch service. Other than that this is a must go to place for people who appreciate a view, fine food and wine pairings. It's totally for foodies or soon-to-become-foodies. Amazing!

Came on Sunday, 2/3/13 - Enjoyed several of their wine flights & rot meat plate last night. Was a great place! Quiet (last night anyway!), great view & our server was well-informed of the wine options, etc. The meat plate app was really very good and exactly the size and quantity we were seeking. Only 4 stars as we didn't try much else! Will certainly return! We even arrived just before they opened and they were super polite and had us seated just before 5pm. Would like to give their happy hour a go! Decor was great & I love that they have their own garden on the rooftop!!

You get to the restaurant by entering a crummy looking building alcove where you are looking over your shoulder to make sure you're not going to get mugged. In case you are unaware of it Portland has a huge homeless population - at least in the warmer months. Anyway, you get off the elevator and the restaurant is lovely. Very sleek, hip, nice view of the lit up city. People in the know would have reserved a balcony table (they are very limited). The service was excellent and the food was great. The food could of been better but it was more of a upscale bar selection. The best part was the dessert. It was something of an orgasmic experience. Yum! It was this small bite of heaven. It is quite pricey.

we returned to noble rot after 2 yrs, to show our friend...i had an amstel light, my partner had a violet collins, and our friend had a ginger lime-aid ...on this hot day, all hit the spot...we didn't have a reservation, but somebody had cancelled, lucky for us...2 of us had the happy hour noble salad, which was out of this world...i had the happy hr fish cake with greens, and my partner had the salmon: Salmon, snap peas & garlic scapes; miso braised king oyster, and our friend the pork croquete...everything was amazing, and the server went above and beyond...she had the cool glassed, green shift,a nd neat belt...didn't catch her name...excellent.....she was so friendly...we asked to view the rooftop garden again....the server checked with the chef, and we went up ...saw all the veggie, herbs, and view..thx for a superb meal again!

Our first time up on the 4th floor of this Central Eastside location...amazing view, far too hot to sit on the patio, had to wait for a table inside. Super attentive and old school bartender who declared that "Every single drink I put out of this bar is the best...even the funny happy hour ones." He took his job seriously. Wine everywhere. Most people were dressed a step or two above the typical Portland shorts/t-shirt/flip flops. Nice, pleasant, neighborly atmosphere--struck up a nice conversation with our bar stool mate. Dinner was delicious...really, really good food. They grow much of their own food up on the rooftop! We had grilled corn on the cob with lime salt and butter, Noble salad with a really delicious not-so-strong blue cheese dressing, and the pasta of the day which included the aforementioned home-grown corn and super sweet grape tomatoes. Definitely would go back. It's noisy and the cost is high for the size of the portions and I will never understand why anyone would bring a child in a stroller to this type of place. The wait staff was really attentive and worked hard. Definitely a Go-Back!

Why can't there be more places like this where I live! This is set on the 4th floor of an old concrete building. If you are going here and there is good weather, make sure that you sit on the belcony. The belcony overlooks all of Portland and it's beautiful at night/during sunset. I ordered the eggplant dish and it was delicious. Also, I can't remember the drink I ordered by it had ginger in it....it was soooo good! Most of the food here is made from the organic vegetable garden that they have on the roof top. Amazing place!

I love this place. Great View's great staff and great wine. I usually like beer but when I'm in the mood for wine there is no better place in Portland.

i tend not to favor wine bars, but with an awesome happy hour that includes cocktails and onion rings, not to mention great service and view, I'm all about it.

the view was amazing. totally unexpected, and amazing. the atmosphere was great. the service was okay, not great, not bad. so why two stars? the food was supremely disappointing. this restaurant hit all the marks...except for the food. SO bad. i can't stress how bad the food was. don't go here to eat. maybe for a glass of wine and a view...but then who wants wine without dinner? with a name like 'nobel rot' you can't have food that tastes...well...rotten.

Love Noble Rot! My husband and another couple had the pleasure of having dinner at Noble Rot recently. We made reservations on Open Table. Located on the 4th floor, there is a beautiful view of the West side of Portland. The decor and ceiling is perfect for a wine bar, comfortable and luxurious. Our server was very knowledgeable about the wine list, explaining the flight options. I chose the Pinot Gris flight and everyone else chose the Homegrown flight, which was three Pinot Noirs from Willamette Valley. Prices on the flights were reasonable. For dinner, I had a Noble salad while everyone else had a burger and fries, which they all enjoyed. Some of the entrees were pretty expensive and seemed a little over priced; about 25 plus dollars. Noble Rot is the perfect place to enjoy some good wine, in a great environment. Our reservation was at 6pm and I expected to be rushed out by 7, however we didn't leave until 8:30 and did not feel rushed at all.

I brought my mother to see the view of portland, have a great glass of wine and a good bite to eat. Noble Rot fulfilled all 3 needs. I will go back there again. Great Service too.

I was a huge fan of Noble Rot in their old location near 28th Avenue, where it was small, dark, and super cozy. I personally love to unwind in cave-like environs. The new location is a complete departure from that, and I guess if I had to work someplace, I can't really blame them from moving from a dark cave (they probably felt like blind cave fish in the old place) to this new spectacular open space. Both times I have gone to the new NR, I have been impressed by the airy views. If you get a seat outside on the patio, it is AWESOME out there, although the cozy booths indoors looked rather appealing as well. I do miss some of the classics on their old menu (the roast pork was one of my all-time favorite dishes), but they still serve up some tasty food, like the hamburger, onion rings, onion tart (I love carmelized onions), and other delicious hearty fare that pairs well with one of their wine flights. I like to sample, so the wine flights are just a perfect and fun way to have just a taste of each wine (3 small pours from each region). My only complaint is that the service we had last time was ATROCIOUS. I mean really horrible. Our wait person had to be new--first she didn't even come to our table at all for like 20 minutes, and then she totally forgot about us for very long stretches at a time...to go focus on her more profitable table of six, I gather...and was about as detached and forgetful as any I have seen (brought us the wrong food, charged us for something we didn't order, etc.) If this had been my first time there, I probably would not have gone back since she completely ruined the dining experience for us since we were crawling out of our skin with irritation by the time we left, but since I love Noble Rot, and have had other great experiences there, I am hoping this was a one-off. One more tip: they offer a SUPER happy hour menu, but you have to get there fast to enjoy it.
