Very fresh good food for a low price. Very fast friendly service. I had the bean and cheese burrito, for something so basic they totally nailed it. This is our new neighborhood favorite for sure.

Man so many great taquerias popping up everywhere, and this one was not even on my radar. A friend tipped me of that it was just down the road in my neighborhood. The tacos were so good. Double wrapped corn tortillas, with healthy portions of meat and toppings. Tried the carnitas, pastor, and chicken tinga. Everything was excellent. You pay a slightly higher premium than most standard street taco joints, for service and cleanliness of establishment, but that's ok with me any day of the week. I'll be back many times over to enjoy this place. Want to see if they do Marg's, and eager to try the mole burrito too. Great to see FoPo continuing the trend for quality establishments along this corridor.

Great food especially the mole. Closed Sundays.... Wish they would update website because it said open we made a special trip to eat there today and we were disappointed that they were closed

Great neighborhood restaurant. Came on a Friday evening. Food came super quick, staff was very friendly and our dinners were tasty. I had the mole chicken enchiladas and they were delicious. Next time we plan on trying the ceviche!

Our new go to in Fopo. The food is great. Over 10 choices of taco options mostly under $3. Burritos for $7. Fresh ingredients made to order. Also, an entire vegan/veggie menu. But the customer service from the owner is what really makes this place deserve 5 stars. I would give it more if I could. In a city where lackluster service and a care less attitude prevails-he goes above and beyond daily. He greets everyone with a smile, recognizes regulars, and takes the time to get to know you. We frequent this place because of him. We know we always will get great service, quick, and with a smile. I wish more places in Portland were like this. He makes me smile every time I go in. Thank you Nayer for for not fitting in to the standard of sub par service in Portland.

This place is a gem! Our friends live right around the block and took us here one night. I was blown away--Nayar serves some of the most vibrant Mexican food I've had in the states. So far, everything we've tried has been a winner. I really appreciate the large menu, which has a nice variety of tacos, salads, and entrees. It's great that they include so many seafood items and are willing to accommodate many dietary restrictions. The margaritas are tasty (not too sweet) and the owner, a very friendly and welcoming guy, always seems to stop by for a chat. Be aware; it's a no-frills kind of place.

I don't live in the neighborhood, but this place is worth the trip. The food is amazing -- particularly the chicken mole burrito, the al pastor tacos, and the chicken tinga tacos. I find myself craving them. And it's a very friendly, family-owned place. They really seem to take pride in their food and their service. It's nice to see a successful small business on Foster Road. It makes me think about moving so I can be closer to where the new action is!

They are amazing!! The BEST Mexican food I've ever had!!!! So juicy tasty and there's so many ingredients in every dish they really take so much time and effort into everything they make! And the owners are so nice and personable!

Oh, Nayar. Our love affair was so sweet but much too short! I can't tell you how glad I am that we stopped in at Nayar on our recent visit to Portland. While it was a little bit out of the way, we figured that all the raving yelp reviews about their food couldn't lead us astray and that it must be worth it. Well, it was SO worth it. I'm still dreaming about their tacos now. We tried the mole chicken, chorizo, carnitas, and shrimp tacos. All of them are hefty and threaten to bust out of their corn tortilla shells, loaded up with lots of the good stuff. Every taco we had was delicious, but my favorites were definitely the chorizo and shrimp tacos. The chorizo was so flavorful and went perfectly with the onions and cilantro. The shrimp taco was the best taco I've ever had in my life, and I've had a lot of tacos. The freshly grilled shrimp with the slightly sourness of the pickled red cabbage and the bite of the jalapenos makes for the perfect combination of flavors, and it was so good that after I had eaten my four tacos, I had to really restrain myself from buying another whole plate of shrimp tacos. Awesome food aside, it's a nice looking space with friendly customer service. All you Portland people are lucky to have this place so close by. As for me, I'll just need to plot my next trip to Portland so I can rendezvous with my shrimp tacos again.

  • Mack J.

Heard this was the top rated spot on yelp. I concur. The shrimp taco plate was exquiste. I had a piece of the shrimp quesadilla as well. Wow, do yourself a favor. Go here when you're in the mood for mexican.

Best burrito in Portland. Simple and to the point. One of the best burritos I've had outside of San Diego. Importantly, I didn't have to ask for my burrito to come without lettuce. If you think lettuce belongs on a burrito you should stick to Taco Bell or find somewhere that serves overrated Mission style garbage. This place knows how to do it and they do it exceptionally well.

The service was friendly. We kind of just went in for a light snack, so I can't comment on their larger plates. But the chips and guacamole were tasty (though I like my guacamole better) and the tacos were all pretty darn good. I don't know if they're the most memorable tacos I've ever had, but I wouldn't count them out for a future visit when the mood strikes. (P.S. I don't know what that guy means by "NO PUBLIC RESTROOMS". If you're a customer and you go in there, there's a bathroom to your left from the cash register. I used it. It exists.)

One of the more decent Mexican establishments here in Portland. I've been here a handful of times. The owner is definitely friendly, and so is the rest of his family. The restaurant is very simple. I would definitely give out more stars, if I were to write the review on my first visit it probably would be five stars. We came and dined in one night, and had waited awhile. They messed up on our order, and gave me soggy nachos. I didn't want them to re-do it, but my significant other wouldn't let me eat anymore of the soggy nachos. The owner said he was sorry, and re-did the order. They knew it had been sitting for awhile, because they screwed up our order. My stomach wasn't that happy the next day. I know now, that if something doesn't taste right, I need to voice that opinion right away! I will definitely still give Nayar's a second chance. Order the carne asada burrito wet with green sauce. It's one of the best burritos in the area. Also, when they do it right, the nachos are pretty amazing.

Chicken Mole enchiladas! I keep thinking I'll order something different, yet I can't; thankful for friends who let me sample their wonderful options as well! Going back to PDX in a couple of months, and this will be my first dinner stop!

Everything was over the top delicious. Lost one star for the slow service, but that is not a deal breaker. I recommend this place highly

This place has done it right! The margaritas were full and flavorful. The guy running the place was beyond helpful. He came by to ask how we heard of the place and we informed him that we lived down the street but have had friends that have stopped in. So this place spot serves you a full plate of great tasting mexican food. They got extra kudos from me for putting my rice next to my beans! I really don't like when most places separate the two with whatever main dish you ordered because then i have to rearrange my plate. The food has some great authentic tastes and lots of items to choose from on the menu. I feel like some of the other reviewers in that I almost don't want to write the review just so there won't be a line around the block. But with great service and food i can't deny them the opportunity to shine. The prices are right so you won't feel like you took a huge hit for a great meal. If they made tortillas in house then i might consider that last star. Fine print notes: This place is order at the counter so grab a menu and take a look since the menu tells you what is in each and the menu above the counter has less detail. And it is also a bus your own table place so help out.

Being from California, I've heard many Californians say that they'd never consider living in Portland because of the lack of decent mexican food joints. I'm here to tell you that this place proves all those nay-sayers SO wrong. Every single thing I've tried here has been DELICIOUS. I'm not even a big seafood fan but their Salmon and shrimp tacos are where it's at. Some other winners are the Classico Relleno burrito, Piccadillo, Al Pastor, Carnitas...heck everything there is GREAT. The quality of the food isn't the only thing to rave about- all of the staff here is just so down-to-earth friendly! I can't give this place enough thumbs up. Worth the trip even if you don't live in SE PDX!

  • Dana S.

I love the tacos. I love the chips. I love the salsas. I love the margaritas. I love the friendly family who runs the place. I love that I can walk here. But I seriously, seriously love the tacos. They're all well done, and there are some really interesting versions you don't usually see--like the picadillo, which reminds me of the Chilean empanadas my dad makes. Easily the best tacos I've had in pdx.

I love this place! I just moved to the Foster neighborhood, and have been searching for my new local Mexican restaurant, and BAM - I discovered Nayar! Some of the best chicken taco's I've had. Super nice staff too. So thank you Nayar, I'll be back for more!

First time here. The reason for only four stars is because food was not hot enough but it was still amazing. Service was above par. Inside was relaxing.

Should have taken a photo! Tried the Alambre and now I can't wait to come back. The house made red chili sauce was delicious. The service was super great, can't believe I didn't know this place was here.

This is a great little spot on SE Foster. FoPo needs more places like this. The owners are friendly and the food is fresh. They always accommodate my specific tastes and I'd recommend this place for simple, fast, fresh Mexican food.

Everything I have tried from here has been amazing. The star truly is the mole sauce mentioned in other reviews. Staff is always very friendly. A wonderful place to enjoy a good meal or acquire some takeout!

The street tacos here are superb!!!!! I really enjoy the carne asada, carnitas and chorizo tacos, but they have plenty of delicious tacos to choose from. I also recommend the carne asada burrito. The guy that runs this place is super friendly and very helpful. Not terribly huge space but great for both adults and children. Usually a soccer game on the TV. Very much recommend this place for authentic Mexican food and friendly atmosphere!!!

  • J T.

Delicious and healthy with several vegetarian options. Affordable, perfect portions (no waste), laid back atmosphere (good for kids but not too loud). Super kind man served us...he was positive and helpful. Wish we lived around the corner rather than in California. They just need an answering machine to note their hours on holidays. :-)

My husband and I had the good fortune to meet a very nice couple at a wedding recently. Small talk revealed that they were the owners of Nayar Taqueria. Since we adore taqueria food, we decided we would check out their place. Wow! No, seriously! Wow! The flavors are so beautiful and authentic. Hands down the best taqueria I've been to. I had 3 tacos: fish, carnitas and tinga. I'm not sure which I loved most. They were all so flavorful and tasty! There is more I want to try, but I was stuffed after eating my tacos. We will definitely be back. As a side note, it was lovely seeing Alma again. She treated us like VIPs and made us special beverages to try. They were awesome! Fantastic experience!

I really, really wanted to like this place. It is near my house and I love Mexican food. The other reviews are great so I'm really hoping it was just an off night, but we left very disappointed. We ordered ceviche to start, two tacos (carnitas and chicken mole), and a taco salad with shrimp. (A relatively simple order.) And then we waited. And we waited. And we waited some more. We waited an hour and ten minutes for our food. After we'd waited an hour or so, the owner came over and asked us if we had eaten yet... that was not a great sign. He then came back and told us that "seafood takes a lot longer to prepare." FOR REAL?? First, don't blame the customer's order for the food taking forever. Second, shrimp takes literally NO TIME AT ALL to cook. In fact, it is way easier to OVER cook shrimp because it needs so little time. We could have been most of the way to the coast to gather and prepare our own shrimp in the time we waited for the meal. The food tasted pretty good, but the wait was a mega bummer.

I've had A LOT of really terrible Mexican food since I moved to Portland. I had given up. Recently, I gave Nayar a try since it's close to my work. I've tried over a dozen menu items so far. Everything has been either good or excellent. The prices are also very reasonable and the portions are generous. The service is fast and very friendly. Try the tortas. They are easily one of the best things on the menu. Also, the house verde sauce is a great compliment to many dishes here.

  • Danielle H.

I had enchiladas and my husband had chile relleno. We both loved our meals and the owner came over to chat with us after we ate. We didn't know about the bussing our own tables thing, so as we were leaving he gently told us.... "for next time". (But, they might consider a sign somewhere that flat out reads "bus your own table".... that would help). Everything is pleasing to the eye here...the space, the food....and not that this really matters, but the owner and his wife are both very good looking people too. There is no denying it, attractiveness is nice.

  • Stacy W.

Go here. It is really nice inside... Small but nice. The staff is really friendly and FAST! And in my eternal search for good mole', they nailed it. Margaritas too. Just a cute, clean remarkably great gem in Foster/Powell neighborhood. Yum.

  • Jason D.

I go the shrimp taco and a chicken burrito. Shrimp taco was perfect, dang, full of flavor, definitely would order again. The chicken burrito though... not so much, lacking in flavor, even with the sauces added. Something else about it wasn't right that I can't put my finger on. If I'm back over there I'd probably stop in for more tacos and to try other dishes.

My siblings have been singing the praises of Nayar Taqueria. The first time they took me here, they wanted me to approve and like the food as much as they did. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case--I had a few Lengua tacos and it was alright, nothing about seems spectacular to me. Every time they someone suggested Nayar Taqueria, I would decline. It was my brother-in-law's birthday and he wanted to go for dinner so we went. I was surprised to find that it was cleaner and more refined because they had remodeled since my first visit. There was quite a bit of people dining compared to last time. I skipped the tacos this time, I got the chicken enchiladas de mole and it comes with Mexican rice, black bean, and guacamole. It was pretty tasty. I can't pinpoint the exact flavors of the mole sauce, it was definitely different from any of the moles I have tried--almost more of a chili flavor, similar to Berbere spices mixture than chocolate-based. The guy that takes the order and serves the food is so kind and welcoming. I am glad that I gave it a second chance.

This is the friendliest mexican restauraunt ever. They care so much about your experience. Go for the dishes that are unique, like the pineapple salmon tacos. The regular street tacos are also way better than average.

  • Melissa D.

If you're like me, and sick of waiting in the seemingly nearly constant hipster line at Por Que No?, you should give Nayar Taqueria a try. Just look over the fact that it's on dumpy Foster; once you get inside and have a belly full of their delicious food, the location won't matter. I have only had a variety of the tacos and burritos there so far, but each and every one has been amazing. Fresh quality ingredients, awesome hot sauce, pretty fast prep time, and a nice, family owned atmosphere, you can't go wrong. They also make great horchata, and have the usual Mexican beers and drinks to choose from, including pretty decent margaritas. It really looks business is picking up there, since between two recent different visits they had done some nice expansion and remodeling of the space, and it seems to only be getting better and better. Went there the other night for dinner, and it was fairly packed; it looks like the word is starting to get out about Nayar. If you are looking for a new Mexican place to try in SE, I can't recommend this place enough! I know we will be coming back for more!

  • Carla W.

They have a great selection of authentic street tacos. The carnitas was exceptional. I also tried the salmon which had a delicious pickled onion and cabbage slaw on top. The carne asada was good as well. The ingredients were fresh, the place is clean bright and cheerful, and the staff was nice and helpful. I will be going back.

The vegan options are pretty decent, for being a non vegan restaurant. A good place to go with non vegans.

Hidden Gem... This place is so amazing! I almost do not want to post, because I don't want the line to wrap around the block. The freshness of the ingredients, reasonable price, tacos to die for and Ceviche San Blas is incredible. You can tell the owner takes a lot of pride in his cuisine. I will be back!

The Tinga chicken sets this place apart. Their sauces say we are the best around. Nayar may be my favorite Taqueria. but i am partial living in this neighborhood. I do really enjoy spending my $ where the owner is friendly and cares. This place is wonderful. Oh the flavors. Check it out!.

  • Zach R.

Love that Tortalandia has some solid competition now. It is a little less expensive than Tortalandia which is a huge plus. The outdoor seating is also a plus. They close at 9pm everyday if the week, which is pretty early! I love both of the gems, so please don't make me pick which one is better!

  • Brad D.

We came here expecting a stellar food experience but alas I was disappointed. I ordered the pollo mole and we waited about five minutes, so points for snappy service. When the chicken mole arrived, the mole sauce was watery and lacking that distinct mole flavor. The black beans that accompanied the meal were lukewarm and I believe I could make out two beans in the black bean watery puddle on my plate. The Spanish rice was a bit on the cold side as well. That being said, the service was impeccable which is why I relented and gave two stars.

    (2)
  • Alisha P.

The owner took time to ask what I really wanted when I was being indecisive and just tried to order a burrito. They made nachos that were vegan for me and they were great. The red sauce is amazing, I love that they have tempeh. The chipotle tofu taco was really good. It's so nice to have another tasty, inexpensive Mexican option. Next time I'll have to try the rice.

  • Tim E.

Went there with my family tonight and our consensus was that we wouldn't go out of our way to go back here. In fact, we'd probably go a few blocks out of our way to try something different. Closer in, comparable taquerias aren't as expensive as Nayar. I felt like they justified higher prices with decor and a chalkboard menu. In fact, my theory is that decor and slightly higher prices might make gringos a bit more comfortable here. But the food doesn't live up to the price. My wife had few complaints about the taco salad, but it wasn't impressive. The guacamole seemed a bit too full of stuff that wasn't avocado and my wife was suspect of the flavor. I would really warn against the chicken mole burrito. This mole was quite heavy on Indes spices. Very clove-heavy, like a flavor hammer of distraction. And it was more sauce than chicken, which compounded the awkward tastebud confusion. On the positive side, I don't currently have a stomach ache.

  • Amy L.

This is the best Mexican I've have in Portland. I could eat here every night. My Grandma immigrated here from Northern Mexico and I am pretty certain Nayar stole her tamale recipe. :)

    (5)
  • Nina S.

I chose this little place for my birthday dinner. I didn't want too expensive, wanted a margarita, and authentic Mexican. This place was perfect. Don't let the order at the counter process scare you- it makes for faster service! Food made to order and the tacos were awesome. Chips warm and perfect- margarita fit the bill. All in all, great place!!!

  • Steve H.

Nayar is great to have in our neighborhood. Food temperature can be a little iffy (occasionally lukewarm when it should be hot, i.e. the rice and beans) but flavorwise it's very good, and the fish tacos are super, with tasty meat and delicious pickled cabbage. And, as others have commented, the owner and staff are super friendly.

    (4)
  • Christopher P.

They have a great amount of vegetarian options and some outdoor seating when the weather cooperates. The salads are wonderful and the staff is friendly. The atmosphere could be better but they do okay with the space they have. Also, if you're calling in your order, give them at least 20 minutes.

  • Kerri F.

my review got stuck on the Ma Tona's page, but it should be for the delicious food at Nayar! I LOVE this place! My man and I had seen signs of it's impending opening while out walking the dog and finally got a chance to visit a couple weeks ago. Wow, what delicious food. We have been in about 8 times now (yes, in 2 weeks, don't judge) and have tried almost all of their enchiladas and many of their tacos and love the burrito classico relleno and enchiladas de rajas. Such fresh, vibrant flavors. The dishes fill you up without making you feel bogged down. The staff (owners, I think) are so friendly and welcoming. The space is open and airy but is still a work in progress, but who cares when the food is this great. Do your taste buds a favor and eat some of their tasty Mexican fare. YUM!

First, the good: Great neighborhood taqueria with good food and friendly owners who appear to be invested in making a positive contribution to the surrounding neighborhood. Lots of food options, margaritas, and neighborhood/casual atmosphere. The not so good: I've been to Nayar multiple times, and while the food's always good, there tends to be something lacking each time. No lime with tacos; order got messed up; long wait. The bad: My last trip was marked by a 30 minute wait. Granted, it was a large to-go order, but the wait seemed excessive. Also, upon opening the various boxes later, one of the orders (three tacos) were missing. It appears as if the staff/owners get pretty overwhelmed when busy, perhaps for being understaffed, but it shouldn't justify bad service/missing food. In summary, this is a fun little neighborhood taqueria that usually does the trick if you go when it's not too busy. It definitely adds a good vibe to a once-drab part of Foster Road, and the owners' friendly demeanor usually makes up for any hiccups in service. My guess is they'll get better over time, but until then you'll have to take the good with the bad.

the food was great, the owner was lovely. This is a very casual place. They need to do a little decorating to make it seem a bit homier. I would go back.

  • MAX B.

When I go here, I like to get the juicy chicken tinga, the enchilada de mole, or anything with their savory black refried beans. The food is very, very good. I'm going to keep coming back. The taqueria is decorated not sparsely, but sparely and cleanly. The concrete floors and exposed wooden beams in the ceiling reflect this honest, no nonsense stretch of Foster. While I was waiting for my to go order, the owner helped a family's daughter order in Spanish - joking they only charge 50c per wrong word. He treats everyone like a regular, even if you don't come in as much as you'd like.

The cora bowl with carnitas - it was elegantly simple and delightful. I would have liked to have eaten it there but I had a schedule to keep. Since it was a salad, I was not surprised that it was prepared quickly and I appreciated that. The meat was tender and flavorful. It made the salad a satisfying meal.

This place rules! Seriously. The food is amazing and the variety of flavors are awesome. I speak spanish and the family that owns the joint are fun and supportive to communicate with. The salsas that come with the meal are both fantastic. Horchata is not too sweet, which is great and the margaritas with fresh squeezed limes are super tasty. Super friendly atmosphere, I'll be back a lot. al pastor ***** colorado *****

I would give this place 4 1/2 stars! I have had a lot of trouble finding REALLY good Mexican food in Portland and have finally found a spot. The restaurant is family owned and they are so nice! The Enchaladas Rojas are amazing with the green sauce and the bean & cheese burrito is on point ( get the black beans). The green and orange sauce is pure heaven! Place is clean.

Went here one night with a friend after looking for a new mexican place to try. So glad that we did! The owner is super nice and attentive, ready to strike up a conversation or even turn up the heat for you. The food was yummy, and the sauces were great. Got three carnitas tacos and devoured them! I cannot wait to go back!

Add half a star...margarita generous and so yummy!! None of that crap commercial mix. Lengua was tasty if not scant on bf's burrito. Fish taco was very flavorful. Chips could be better. We ordered the chicken mole enchiladas and the wet chorizo burrito with half red sauce and half green sauce. Best mexican meal we've had in Portland! The mole was perfectly balanced. The burrito was filled with the right amount of ingredients and the sauces were both delicious. I highly recommend them.

This place is so close to mi casa I am bummed it took me so long to get here... now that I have been they wont be to keep me away! Delicious! The gentleman working was so personable and friendly. I got the chorizo, fish, tinga and picadillo taco and sweet lord they were all wonderful. I also got the mexican salad that was light and tasty. The fish taco was one of the very besr I have ever had...ever. So so good. I cant wait to walk here again with my pup and enjoy some amazing good in the sun with a beer and about 30 fish tacos! So glad they are in my neighborhood! YAY!

So so good. We discovered this place about 2 months ago and have come here nearly a dozen times since. Definitely rivals chachacha and the location (relative to my residence) is fantastic. I am from Tucson and have trouble finding what I consider to be great (Sonoran) Mexican food here in PDX. This place definitely soothes my near-constant craving for good tacos. Both red and green hot sauces are yummy. My husband gets the green chicken enchiladas, our two yr old gets the al pastor tacos, and I change it up but almost always grab a carnitas taco. Never disappointed. Horchata is a powder mix, so minus 1 star. Great service!

Well...I may as well write a review about this place since I'm here almost everyday! I walk in the door and everyone who works there knows me and what I like to order (Nora nachos with carnitas and a margarita) which either makes you feel special or makes you think that you eat out too much. Genuine good service and good food! The owner is super friendly and you can tell her puts a lot of heart into his business. I love this place! It blows the neighborhood Mexican food competition out of the water!

I seriously love this place. The owner is attentive, friendly and always makes you feel at home but that's just a bonus. The real reason you should come here is the food which is both tasty and authentic (I've lived in Mexico so trust me when I say that's not an easy thing to find in Portland).

I was surprised by how good this place is. It is significantly better than the previous business, Ma Tonas, that was in the same store-front. I am not yet sure if it is my favorite taqueria in Portland. I need to sample more menu items before I can say if it is my favorite. I can say with certainty that this is the best taqueria to go to in the Foster Powell neighborhood. The owner of the business is constantly making improvements to the restaurant. I also would really like to see a salsa bar. They have two very good salsas. Both salsas are not that hot. I would like to see one salsa that was considerably hotter, but then again I have a pretty high threshold for spicy. If you're in the neighborhood, and you're looking for a taqueria, you can't go wrong here.

Stopped in here on Monday night because it is in the 'hood and is new. I always try to support local businesses. It was surprisingly good! The menu is a good representation of real Mexican taqueria itemsI I would like to see more condiments (cilantro, guacamole, salsas, limes, etc) for the tacos but the seasoning is quite good. Their mole sauce is one of the best ones I have had in pdx. I will be back to try more their menu and to enjoy the friendly service. I really wanted to give this 4.5, not quite there for a 5 though.

I'm not an expert on Mexican food, but I lived in Texas for a big chunk of my life so I've probably had more than my share of Mexican food over the years. This place is great and I'm lucky to live just a few blocks away. In particular, their mole chicken is some of the best I've had. It's not too sweet and has just the right amount of spice. And the service is quick and friendly. It's definitely worth checking out!

I love everything about this restaurant. The owner, Elisario, and his family make for a very friendly atmosphere, and I've never been disappointed in anything I've had there. I haven't had everything on the menu, but what I've had (various tacos, primarily) has been delicious, fresh, and well-made, and comes out of the kitchen pretty quickly. Some Hispanic friends of mine from Houston say Nayar is the best place to eat in Portland, if that tells you anything.

This place is still great and has great flavors and sauce. However, I asked if the burrito had guacamole in it, was told yes, and then found no guac in my burrito :( I'll be back but please don't forget the guac again!

Super friendly neighborhood taqueria. The food is tasty and the place is clean and enjoyable to be in. They've got soccer on nice TVs and the owner really pays attention to detail!!

Yay a new Mexican food place. The food was here and the margaritas delicious. I have been looking for some down home good food that has good quality. The waitstaff was pleasant though they def need to have a few more workers. I also would make a suggestion that they def see what they can do to get another bathroom.

I stopped by here on a whim for lunch. So glad I did! Living in the area, I'm always looking for tasty vittles, preferably in walking distance. So based on a sample of 3 tacos, I will be back for dinner to try the plates and drinky-poos. The tinga (spicy chicken) and chorizo (which they make in house) rocked! Reasonably priced, clean, friendly, and very yummy. Yay! Tell your friends, but not all those hipsters that frequent a certain taqueria on Hawthorne. Screw that long line, folks, and eat here.

I just moved to the neighborhood. A friend and I were looking for a place to eat and she suggested we try Nayar Taqueria. I got the Al Pastor burrito and it was quite honestly the best burrito I've ever had. Absolutely delicious - every single bite. The people working there are friendly and charming - exactly the kind of people who you like to give your business to. This place is a real gem. You must go!

As an Arizona native and have been to Mexico several times I'm picky with good Mexican food! I have to say this place is awesome! Really damn good food at a good price and good margaritas too. The owner is really nice and funny as well! A must try!

Best taco and burrito place in our neighborhood!!!! The chorizo burrito is off the chain, and so are the margaritas!!!

Lovely family owned taqueria. Fresh, delicious and affordable. Shrimp tacos, so good! Chile Relleno burrito mmm. They have tofu and tempeh for the veggies among us and the joint is super kid friendly. Heaven! Come one come all. Just what SE Portland needs!

Pretty standard, tasty Mexican food. I had the mole chicken burrito and enjoyed it. The fish tacos are OK. The drink selection is limited, but there's something for most people. No major complaints, the family that runs it is super friendly, and the prices reasonable. But if you're willing to spend a bit more, Torta-landia is next door, and has the best fish tacos and sweet potato fries in PDX.

I love this place. The food is delicious and the staff is always super sweet. I am originally from San Diego, so I am very picky about my Mexican food. This place is the best in town. I don't mind that you have to wait a few extra minutes because the cook it fresh, it's worth it. I like that their prices are the same as a taco stand, but with much higher quality.

It can be difficult finding delicious Mexican food this far north of the border, but look no further! This place is absolutely delicious! I will definitely be back with my buddies for some tacos and burritos! Also, they have Vegan options!!!

Easily the best burrito I've ever had in Portland. I've been looking all over town for years to find a taqueria that's comparable to the ones in the Bay Area. This is it. Plus, their margaritas are amazing. They use fresh lime juice and puréed raspberries. The owners are super friendly and genuinely interested in making sure you're happy. I'm so glad to have this place in my neighborhood.

This was a great little place! Originally, we were just stopping by in order to grab something quick to take home. The owner/operator, however, said we needed to experience the way it was 'meant' to be: hot, fresh off the grill and with a presentation that would not be captured if it were thrown in a box and sent to my kitchen table. So, we folded and stayed....and ordered their special margarita and a mojito....both acceptable. The food was great and the guy was truly interested in what we thought of his labor of love. We will be back for sure...it's comfortable, laid back and pretty darn good food! We ordered to plates that came big as they can be and really flavorful. They had beans and rice accompanying them and it was piping hot and fresh for sure....love it! We've only been here once but we'll be back :)

Finally FOPO gets a taqueria, not sure how this neighborhood went without a taqueria for so long. The food is excellent, pretty standard taqueria fare. I would have made it a 5 star review if they had better vegetarian/Vegan options like Los Gorditos or Robo Taco. Either way the food is good and its in walking distance. FOPO is one step closer to being a fully livable neighborhood, now if we can just get a decent grocery store. Foster Myer will never count as a decent grocery store as long as the main focus seems to be on bottle returns over quality groceries.

Adequate selection of vegetarian and vegan items (tofu and tempheh) which you don't often see at Mexican restaurants. Very friendly staff. Owner came over to chat it up with us and explain the philosophy of their menu and use of fresh ingredients.

We ate here and had great food but it wasn't a good experience because the service took a really long time. We arrived around 6, placed our order and by looking around the little restaurant space figured we were third in line. Looks like they choose to fill walk up take out orders placed after us as a higher priority than a hungry family of four. By the time the food arrived (over 30 min wait for veggie tacos and burritos) we were starved cranky and the kids were too hungry and tired to behave, let alone eat. At no point were we checked on or reassured our food was coming. It appeared there was one line cook, one prep cook and two people taking orders/running food. The margaritas were good. The horchata was heavy on the cinnamon. The food was good but next time I think we'll do take out if we ever decide to return. Watching everyone else eat while feeling forgotten and hungry will make me think twice.

I too had given up on good Mexican food in Portland. Boy what a delightful surprise!!! Taqueria Nayar has wonderful, regionally specific delicious food, pleasant, friendly staff and the owners really care about the customers and their experience. I have recommended this place to anyone who will listen.

I live in the area and am kicking myself for not going sooner. I had a Colorado burrito that I will order again when I come in. Heads up; the orange salsa is hot so use it sparingly.

Our little neighborhood is still a bit gritty, but it's gems like this that are helping to turn Foster into the next big (as yet undiscovered) thing. We were excited to try this place out, since we'd heard great things. Our dinner was absolutely wonderful! We had the chips + guacamole, chicken tamales, enchiladas de rajas. All were delicious, but the star was the enchiladas de rajas with their smoky poblanos, tangy crema, and tomatillo sauce (I'm a sucker for a good tomatillo sauce). The black beans were exceptional as well. The owner was very welcoming and it he has obviously developed a regular following, as he greeted all the other customers by name. We will become regulars too!

I live around the corner and I've tried this place 3 times now. Not impressed at all. I don't understand all the positive reviews. Yes the staff is friendly, and the place is nice and clean. But the food is subpar. Last I checked carne asada, ment beef steak right?? I ordered a carne asada burrito, when it came to me it was enormous not even a burrito more like a burro. I was hungry and excited at first until I bit into it again and again and found almost no meat at all. for $9 you would think there would be more meat in it. It was full of rice and refried beans. It didn't taste bad, it just wasn't what I wanted or expected to get. Why did I find corn in it? I think they use a lot of filler to make up for the food cost . even the guacamole is weird having more things in it and less avocado. If I decide to go back I will just order a bean and rice burrito. It seems to be the least expensive thing they have, and is probably what you r going to go get anyway.

I just stopped by for lunch today after driving by several times. I had a Lengua taco and a fish taco, and both were excellent. Two tacos and a Corona for $9...a perfect lunch. The owners were both there and were very friendly and excited about their restaurant. I love supporting local businesses and they have made it very easy for me to support this one!

Amazing Mexican food and fabulous friendly service. Today was our first time in, we just happened to drive by and live in the area. The owner definitely made it a point to make us feel welcome, he was great. I had the alambre (in the specialties section), and it was marvelous--very flavorful. The rice was also just how I like it. Please make it a point and stop by this relatively new business, would like to keep him in the area! House made margaritas were also very good and not overly sweet, couldn't get away with just one :)

Wow, just ate here and it was terrific. The food was great and the owner spent time talking with us, making us at home. He's continuing to work on making the venue more appealing (maybe a patio for summer?!?!?) and the menu has expanded. All the way from really inexpensive but good tacos to specialty plates that were marvelous. Plus cervezas. Plus even veggie stuff for folks who need that. The tamales were heaven. Y'all come!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
