I walked in to use their ATM, located near the back on the left hand side, just past the end of the bar. As soon as I stepped in, I heard the sweet sound of live blues music, promptly followed by an older gentleman grabbing me by my elbows and proceeding to dance his heart out! I love dancing and it was terribly hard to resist in that atmosphere. I just wanted to use the ATM and ended up having so much fun! I didn't eat (mistake) but the food smelled as you would expect, greasy and appetizing. The seating was cramped, but then I assume they switched things up to make room for the live band and dancing. The lighting is sort of romantic, and the whole place has a 50s diner feel to it. It's obvious that there's people doing a nopo bar crawl, tourists and of course the regular. The age range seemed to be mid 20s-mid 50s. Nobody behaving their age. Swing by, it's a nice crowd even on a Sunday.

I've been here on multiple occasions, usually looking for brunch and a wee hair of the dog. This neighborhood spot (maybe surprisingly) wins on so many levels from food to service. Some #ProTips: * If they have pudding shots, get one. Or two. I won't judge. * If the Huevos Rancheros is on special, and you're a vegetarian, get it. With veg sausage. So good. The right marriage of crispy and hearty. Nom. * If you're omnivorous, get the BLT. Seriously. Bacon and lettuce. In Every. Bite. Just enough mayo and tomato to bring it all together. So crispy. So soft. So good. /sigh

This place is small and a bit worn, but perfect for a local watering hole - friendly staff and swift service. I've had probably half their menu now, and most of it is tasty though just the standard pub food (burgers/etc and fried foods) but their breakfast on the weekends is sizeable and definite hangover-cure fare. Happy hour offers some discounts but really, their prices aren't bad and they pour a stiff drink. Back patio is small and feels a bit exposed since the neighbors are houses (as is the bar, originally), but quiet, heated in the winter and has birds visiting in the summer. If you can avoid the smokers in the corner its great on a summer after work to sip a cool pint and watch the sunset. Avoid the women's bathroom in the summer if you can. The heat builds up in there and it isn't vented properly, so it feels like a sauna.

Love this place!!! Best bar food, best staff, always fun, good energy, and great drAnX!

Such a quaint lil spot. Greasy spoon, good folk (mostly) and quite the beer back. The backyard reminds me of my great grandmothers house )a good thing) and I love hitting it up before I check out goodwill across the street on Sunday's. Not five stars cuz they gotta stop doing live music shows. Too small, too loud.

Sometimes I come here for poker on Monday's. Service is pretty slow, but friendly enough (they seem to be constantly short staffed). Anything with fried fish is pretty good and the burger is definitely delicious grease monster. As for the chicken strips, the portion size is smaller than other local bars, like Greeley and Twilight Room. Keep in mind food will come out slow since the kitchen is tiny. Their patio area is fairly large. I heard they have free blues jam nights and a cheap breakfast, so there is probably more to this bar than meets the eye.

I heart this place. Like really. Not only is the staff really nice, but all of the patrons are too. A real sense of community here. I came on a Sunday morning, and decided to give their $2.99 breakfast special a try. A short stack and bacon, both surprisingly good, for super cheap? Hell yeah! For drinks, I got a Bloody Mary. Now, I'm pretty picky about my bloodies (not too spicy or watered down). This one lived up to my expectations.

I normally would rate this bar a 4 or even a 5, but last night our server, Aaron, made me change my mind. The staff is usually always so friendly. Come to think of it, he's really the only staff member there that doesn't seem to be all that friendly. Me and my guy both ordered food (which was delicious), of which he got my order partially wrong (all I asked for was no onions on my salad) and the poor cook felt horrible, he didn't seem to care - or even ask us how our food was. She did though, she's fantastic! (female with shorter, blonde hair - super nice) Oh dear.....I made the mistake of asking him for a refill on my water. He paused before replying, then said, "um, you know there's a water station over there (pointing)?" me, "oh, I'm sorry to have bothered you." He doesn't say another word, grabs my cup and refills it for me. Was it really that hard to walk 5 feet to get me more water? You were going behind the bar anyway to get my guy another drink. And yet I still tipped you 20%. You're welcome! Overall, I love this place. Great food, good music, typically awesome staff. I think Aaron just needs the boot or a wake up call!

When I first moved to Portland and discovered this concept pf drinking booze with your breakfast, I used to come here fairly often. I'm pretty sure they do this back in Boston as well, I just never used to join in the brilliant tradition. But I hadn't been to Mock Crest in years maybe and Restaurant.com offered up a coupon - so count me in. A great way to go on a lazy rainy Friday. A tap beer and a whiskey and coke to start. I even had call whiskey choices. I went with Black Velvet. If it's good enough for Kojak, it's good enough for me. Our nice and enthusiastic waittress told us the specials. Stuffed pork loin, stuffed with stuffing and served with mashed potatoes. She was especially enthusiastic about that one so we got it. It was superb. The only thing that would have made it better was gravy, but no biggie. We also got the deluxe burger with fries. Both were excellent! I AM a fan! Out in the lovely "bier garden", (it really is lovely, and clean) we smoked butts and engaged in some discussion of Kevin Costner films and old school bands with some nice guys. Wasn't till I was going back in did they point out the heater! Only thing I don't like is too many video poker machines. The place just isn't big enough... they should take half of them out! But a buck is a buck is a buck. All in all I'm glad I added the Mock Crest back into my repetoire!

Old fashioned tavern place. They have super cheap beers (different ones different days): $2 per glass. They also have other specials... there was chocolate mousse shot: very good for $2 or less. Their burger was good. Fries were okay. Service was really good.

Best BLTs in town, hands down. I like the atmosphere and the staff here too, but i come for the BLTs.

Throwback Portland style. All friends are welcome. Very low key and comfortable. You won't find a lot of young people on the prowl for a Saturday night hook-up. Very relaxed, casual atmosphere and the barkeeps are all super friendly. Live music regularly. If Sneakin Out is playing- this place gets packed and gets rocking. Come as you are. Great bar food and reasonable prices.

Five stars across the board in food, drinks, ambiance and ALL the staff is great. Back yard and deck are wonderful and my partner and I love to kick back with our drinks and a cigar. Musical guests are varied and we love to come and see whoever is playing on Friday night. This is my go-to spot to relax away from home. The staff all treat us like family and by the second visit, had our names memorized.

  • High S.

There is always a local band there. Just like middle aged men dancing, there's a 50/50 chance you'll be entertained. The staff is ornery unless you spend your retirement fund wasting away in front of the poker machines each week. And, boy, do those regulars know when a newb walks in the door. Their food is what you'd expect for a neighborhood bar, not a dive. It's greasy, messy and valuable if you are extremely hungover. There is an outdoor space that's popular with the summer smoking crowd. If you don't fancy the cooler vibe of the Foggy Notion, you can trade stories about your combover at this place.

My husband and I went all the way from Beaverton to check this place out. We are so glad that we did!!! We really liked the food we ordered; hubby had a classic bacon cheese burger that was really good, and I had the blues bird chicken sandwich...it was fantastic!!! Usually I don't order chicken crispy sandwiches, but this one was recommended by the server after I couldn't decided between two items on the menu. She said it was an original from Mock Crest Tavern, so I had to try it. The chicken was cook perfect, it wasn't at all greasy or oily, just juicy and crispy, I really enjoyed it!!! I still salivating just writing about it. The four stars instead of five, was due to the fries that were served with my sandwich, they weren't as crispy as I like them, they were a little bit soggy, but they had a good taste, just average fries. In the other hand husband had tots and said they were good. The ambience was good, the service was excellent, overall a really nice place to go to have great food, cold brew and live music....what else can you ask? We can't wait to go again.

I moved to Portland almost a year ago, and from day one Mock Crest (around the corner from my house), has been one of my staples. Such an absolutely perfect neighborhood tavern. Good drink prices, tasty food, live music, lovely patio and super friendly servers who actually learn your name. LOVE IT!

Love it ! First of Sept., sat outside in small lush patio/outside. Service-friendly, familiar, attentive Food-Great-to-Good. Home, Comfort food Loads of poker machines for the space Couple TVs to catch sports Great beer selection (for 8 taps) they will switch up their micros & their best quality. Live Music ! Local, Local, you will make a friend here---even if you are shy. The owners are nice and also own Greeley Avenue Bar and Grill. Support them, too ! I had my birthday here, and they gave me a shot with a candle in it. I wasn't even a regular. But I am now. I wish they had hot wings.

A hole in the wall dive in North Portland that serves great food at great prices. The patio is great. Only downside is that service is s-l-o-w

Yep 5 Stars for sure. I love a low key neighborhood dive bar. Mock's decor is divey but really in a good way. The layout of the long narrow bar reminds me of old town history and locals siding up to the bar, chatting with whoever is listening. The drinks are cheap and even cheaper at happy hour. A cheap dive bar with a happy hour..that is bonus in my book!! I had the happy hour burger and it was pretty bland. However, the fries were awesome. I love the "hand cut" fries with the skins on. Tim likes the fries too so I really have to watch him. Our group had to wait a bit to get service so I had to go up to the bar but really, that doesn't bother me in the least when I look around and see how busy it is for only 3 waiters and one is also the cook. They also do Groupon deals and my friend happened to get one that day. It was awesome!

  • Tevvy H.

Couple good TVs, good beer on tap, spacious patio. EXCELLENT, sweet, attentive service is what sets this bar apart though. Bonus: pudding shots. I didn't try them but I love that they have them and that they're listed on their menu not on the booze but the "appetizers" section.

  • Aaron H.

You go to love jalapeno poppers. I do and this place has them, thus I ate some, then I found out I got a free beer with my purchase...even better to was that creamy spiciness down with. Yum I can't wait to return to venture the menu further.

  • Kirsten H.

Great dive bar for a heavy handed after work drink. Servers are friendly and the food is fried. Sometimes the regulars get a little rowdy and loud, but that's what dive bars are good for. Also has outside seating.

  • Jennifer P.

Mock Crest Tavern has delectable pudding shots and a few local beers on tap, but they have a terrible speaker set up (read: blown). Apparently they have bands playing on a regular basis, but they are stuck over in a corner and it's not really gig friendly with all the video poker machines. Overall a nice neighborhood bar with friendly staff; I just wouldn't go back if it was a music night.

    (3)
  • Carl B.

GREAT neighborhood bar! Small, intimate, with excellent staff, live music...just a fine place to gather with friends. Food is so-so but the friendly atmosphere makes up for it. Only legit complaint is that the live music is sometimes just too loud! Makes it difficult to chat with table-mates.

I had never been to Mock Crest before but since it is in the neighborhood we decided to try it. We arrived just before happy hour ended and choose to order off the HH menu. There are not alot of choices but we choose to have a side salad, tater tots, 2 half BLT's, and a cup of soup. The soup was salmon chowder and it was great, The BLT's were also good along with the tator tots. The salad arrived and had red onions on it which we couldn't handle so they took it away and were going to make us another one but then didn't bring it until we were done eating. They took it off the bill. Overall is was ok. We will go back and try breakfast sometime.

This place isn't for everyone but staff is always nice, food is great, and the drinks are good as well. I'd say their specialty is their burgers which are seared to perfection and not too greasy with great tasting and very fresh veggies/ special ingredients to top. Nice cozy bar atmosphere that tends to have 80s pop and obscurities playing. Also boasts live local shows on a regular basis. My personal pick? Their bacon cheeseburger saddled with a cold Molson. Noise level? Depends on if there's a show of course.

Dearest Mock Crest; I avoided you for months because my boyfriend's shitty roommates drink in you. Now that he doesn't live with them, I can rekindle our friendship. Thank you for your large front windows- the light streaming in on a Sunday morning us delightful. Thank you for the delicious hangover-curing breakfast. You've saved many a Saturday. Most of all, THANK YOU FOR LETTING ME BLOW OUT MY OWN FLAMING DR. PEPPER. I love you, Mock Crest. You're like an old friend that I don't talk to often but who still remembers the details. Good job.

Portlandia writers - listen up. i'm a recent immigrant from Brooklyn, NY. My wife discovered this little bar off the beaten path and dragged me to it. It would appear to have all the charm of a little dive bar where everyone knows you name. Looks like it's been around since the 70s. Motley little band playing covers stuck in the corner. Mixed age clientele. Multiple games of Kino on various screens - check. Jägermeister machine - check. Security camera of the smoking yard on screen - check. Sign that says - 'we cannot serve you if you are inebriated'. Wha? Oh well... wife has two rum and cokes... i have two beers. And then order a shot of Suaza.... shhhhhhuaza...(pointing to the bottle). It's not my label - i don't know how it's pronounced. 'I can't serve you', says the bartender At age 49, for the first time ever, i've been told i can't be served... after a whopping two beers. I would say this is some sort of anomaly in this town but about 5 years ago, while visiting, i was told i could not buy a six pack of beer at Whole Foods because my 43 wife (not me) who was standing next to me in the line did not have her ID. Miss bartender, i didn't say anything to you when i saw you inhaled a pile of nachos smothered in melty cheese. What gives here? What's with the prison guard - don't use common sense - mentality that i sometime sense in this town. If i am in bar and I'm able to sit politely on my bar stool - i'd like to have the freedom to sip my poison til the cows come home and not be concerned if I appeared tired... or lost in my thoughts. If i'm a drunk jack ass - hell, i'll help you toss my ass out - but come on! You are a bar for christ sake! People aren't their for your ice berg salads. One star for the band, one start for the 70s looks, minus a star for kino and security camera,.... and PLUS one start for the bartender for making my day. Seriously, lady, slow down on those nachos.

I'd like to thank Daniel for his live performance @ Open Mic. View his music at: SoundCloud (McKay Whitman) Adding more Lower-Table Seating, would be great. Also, adding, two more bathroom stalls. Good Service. Playing Keno (every 4 minutes) and putting in $1 into a slot machine was tempting, but I was there for the blues open mic. Have yet to try their food. On a slower-paced, day, I'll go back and try their food.

The Mockcrest is the perfect neighborhood bar. The service is always friendly and prompt. The atmosphere is terrific. It's one of those bars where, when you look around, you imagine it could be anywhere in the country, any time in the past 70 years. The food can take a long time to come since it's a one person kitchen, but last time I ate breakfast there, the check came with pudding shots as a complimentary breakfast dessert. Can't beat that.

    (4)
  • D M.

I love this place. Neighborhood bar. Wish the live music would be played slightly lower though. The staff is wonderful and the food is actually surprisingly good for a bar. Get the pudding shots!

I have been here a few times and have been impressed. Food-wise, I've only had breakfast. Good food, in abundance, for a neighborhood Tavern. Service is friendly, as well. Also, has my favorite beer on tap. Definitely worth a try if you are looking for that cozy, relaxed outing. Just realize that it's closer to a bar than a tavern...

Great place... totally feels like "Cheers" seemed to be. Kinda tiny, so if there's a band or you plan to meet a group of friends - get here early! Love it. :)

I was pleasantly surprised at the low hipster turnout. And they took my Yelp Deal for alcohol - unheard of!!! I will definitely return for more booze consumption.

A couple weeks ago, my friend and I hung out at Mock Crest Tavern. I didn't know what to expect, I've only driven by this place dozens of times. It is a casual neighborhood bar, not sure I would classify it as a dive. It's a little nicer than a dive, I think. The drinks were fine and the service was great. Everyone inside seemed to be having a good time. Isn't that what it's all about? Yay!

I've driven by the Mocks Crest countless times and have always been intrigued by the $2.99 breakfast. My internet was down at my home and I noticed a sign in the window that said "Free Wifi" so I popped in to get some work done. When I attempted to log onto the network both my computer and my phone were unsuccessful. I reluctantly asked the bartender to reset the router. I was shocked. She smiled, dropped everything and less then 20 seconds later the Wifi was working. I ordered their famous Blue Cheese Chicken Sandwich. What arrived destroyed all of my expectations. The food was amazing! The portion was generous. The Staff is beyond friendly. I'm so happy I discovered this little gem. Mocks Crest. DON'T CHANGE A THING!

Went here for the first time because I was randomly hanging out at Kenton Park when a band showed up. And then a lady with free drink tickets to this place and Greeley Avenue Bar and Grill showed up and handed me one. I'm all about free drinks. This is actually a very nice dive bar. It does that very well - the bartenders and waitstaff are friendly, the food is greasy and nothing to particularly write home about but it does the job, and you can get cheap cheap beers on tap. The outside seating arrangement is very comfortable, and they even have overhead heaters if you sit on the patio. The clientele here is also friendly - every time I've gone here alone I've ended up striking a conversation with somebody, and every time they've been a little bit loopy, but not creepy or threatening. They have the best live blues bands I've seen in Portland - I'm originally from Detroit so I'm not expecting miracles, but this is definitely the best in the area that I've seen. Saturday nights are music nights. So, this place is friendly, the libations are affordable, the blues is good when you get here on the right night, and the owners give out deals at random concerts in the park. What's not to like?

Great burgers and fries. The only complaint I have, I parked on the side street, had just purchased a 1995 Honda Del Sol, my 1st day of having it. While we had our burger, someone bent the license plate, (getting new ones anyway), threw a rock, which chipped the paint on the hood, and made a rock chip in my front windshield. Really people what is wrong with you. I should have gone around the block and parked up front. I wont drive it there anymore

  • Tiffany M.

This place is pretty cool. My friend is a regular so we met up with her and it was a blast. The bartender was a super sweet heart and after only one visit she already remembered my name. It gets loud and crowded when the band plays, but didnt stop my fiance from getting me up to dance. Just an all around comfort place and the food was pretty good as well. Service:10 Food:7 Price: 9 Atmosphere:6 Definitely should check them out and enjoy a drink and some good conversation. :)

I came here on a challenge from the manager Laurie to try the burger (a friendly one though based on my stated preference for the burger at Slim's). I went with the blue cheese burger and it was really good. You have to understand though that I only started to eat blue cheese about 3 minutes ago so for me to say this is a compliment of the highest order. As for the rest of the place...it was great! The back patio was like sitting in someone's back yard with about 40 of your closest friends. Loud, laughing, and relaxed! The staff buzzed around taking care of everyone efficiently in a super friendly manner. I only walked through the inside quickly but it seemed to be a nice place to hang out, which we will do sometime soon.

I definitely have a soft sport for this divey little jewel. It's refreshing that Mock Crest doesn't try to be something it's not. In fact, I think they define what a GOOD dive should be: -character= check -characters= check (plenty of fun random folks to chat with or just watch) -burger fare= not shabby here, and the cook is a sweet lady who always gives you a sushi bar style hello and goodbye with a smile. -Music= check So, if you find yourself in this end of town and want a cheap beer in a cozy clean little loveable hole, this might just be the place.

    (4)
  • Patti F.

My definition of dive bar: When you walk in and instantly double the number of teeth in the place. ;-) This is a dive bar, dive bar food - free music. Friendly service from all of the servers. Food is good and greasy, drinks are, well... just don't order wine. Yeah, I know, I must be some kind of snob to expect decent wine at a dive bar...but I keep trying...

  • T D.

Decent watering hole on a listless stretch of Lombard. There's a few decent bars in the area if you wanted to do a pub crawl, but there are twice as many that are trashy. Bartenders are nice and the patrons are friendly.

Left a tip already, just want to rate this place as awesome! Good beer, good food, good service and football on a lot of tv's! What's not to like?

  • Nick B.

The bleu cheese sauce for the burger/chicken sandwich. Is it bleu cheese mixed into cream cheese? I've never had anything like it and I love it. Also, they have surprisingly fresh vegetables, the music is usually good, it's got a great sandwich board sign outside and is just a fun place to drink.

An interesting place to hang out if you are in the mood for a dive bar and bar food. We sat at the bar - some nice swivel bar stools. Just make sure, if you are not a smoker, to not sit next to someone who's been puffing outside. Free blues jam - but I'd have to pass on whoever was thhre last night. Friendlly service. Don't even think about drinking wine. If it was in my neighborhood I would frequent it but to go there from any distance further- might be a stretch.

  • Mr S.

Just has a nice feel to it. The employees are nice, and the food is good. The clam chowder is tasty. I like that when bands play, it tends to be at a reasonable level. You can actually talk to the person you're having dinner with.

The Mock Crest is a nice alternative to most of the other bars on this stretch of Lombard. The place is tiny but has a lot of charm. It's hard to ignore the Video poker player/ machines but it's sort of exciting to watch them play. The bartenders are always nice as are the regulars. I known the Mock is too small for it, but a pool table or pinball machine would be a nice addition.

  • Manda B.

What isn't to like about Mock Crest? It's an awesome divey bar that is filled with locals that are just wanting to chill out and let loose. I've never had a bad experience here. The staff is ultra chill and friendly and the atmosphere is welcoming. The food is nothing to write home about but it hits the spot with a nice cold one. There's seating out back with green grass you can rub your toes in. Good happy hour specials, oh and make sure to check out the daily drink specials. Lagunita's Wednesday, anyone? Heck yes.

  • Timothy B.

I'm not going to lie. I went in the tavern to beat the heat. A sign out front bragged about the air conditioning. Yes, inside it was cooler, but not by much. The AC unit needs a tune up or something. I had $2 draft beers, my wife had $3 well drinks, and the happy hour snacks were $3 each. The fried pickles were yummy and served with a side of thick blue cheese dip. The menu said they make their own hummus and it was quite good with bit of a kick. The two servers who helped us were excellent. And yes, the place is small, but otherwise enjoyable. We'll be back. Work that AC for another star. :)

One of my favorite hangs in Portland.... They have live music usually 3 nights a week. (Thursday, Friday and Saturday) Staff is very friendly. Great Happy Hour food and drinks as well as daily specials. John makes great food during the evening hours. Breakfast is just as good as well. Drink prices can't be beat and they don't skimp on the booze with their mixed drinks. There is a nice patio out back and a couple of new TVs in bar to catch whatever game may be on.

  • Jarrod S.

"Who are you, and why have I never been inside you?" I thought to myself as I sat at the bar eating delicious fried pickles, and sipping on a Rouge Dead Guy Ale all on happy hour (3.25 micros). The place is like everyone else says, kinda divey, and that is a complement in the best way. The drinks are stiff, the people are real, (and quite friendly), and the frozen food gets deep fried... the awesome staff, razor sharp flat screens, and bright big windows make it more of a neighborhood joint than anything else. Bleu cheese is on several menu items and they even make their own sauce which was good on the burger, but not really worth the price of the plate. The burger is a frozen one, and not loaded with flavor, and gets lost in the talent of the cook and the spices at her disposal, kudos on that sandwich as a whole. They have 7 or so different beers on tap, the specials change daily, and happy hour occurs with equal frequency. After 11 if you order a pitcher, they throw in onion rings and tots for fucking free! They have wifi, and will even let you use a laptop of theirs. Live music on many evenings. juke box rest of the time. Jello shots, Video lotto, sports and fried stuff with cheese?! Found a new go to...

  • Melissa S.

I love this place. The food is great, the staff are super nice and welcoming, and they have Tootsie Rolls in a jar. It's my fave casual neighborhood place to hang out. It's a little dive-y, but not that much so. Way cleaner than your average dive. You can watch a variety of sports on the multiple TVs. They have live music almost every night. When they don't have music, they have free poker. This place also really make you feel like they appreciate their regular customers. Since the staff started recognizing me and my boyfriend, they give us even better service. Oh yeah, and they have jello shots.

  • Emilie S.

Kind of a perfect tavern. GREAT back porch and really good bar food- breakfast, lunch or midnight. I wish they had just a bit more space for live music, but whatever. Fried pickles. Really cheap happy hour and the cheapest (edible) breakfast I can think of.

Best $3 breakfast in town! The burgers are awesome and combined with tots can fill up the hungriest eaters. Great neighborhood bar.

Judging by the facade I expected a complete dive but was delighted to be wrong. Awesome patio, more of a back yard vibe than a restaurant, except you get friendly and prompt table service. They had Dead Guy and Lagunitas on tap so I drank my dinner. My buddy had the Blue Burger and loved it. Definitely will be back.

Everybody knows there's good plastic surgery and unspeakably bad plastic surgery (Uh. Can you say, "Trout Pout?"). Very little 'twain the two extremes exists. Yet so very few feel comfortable speaking about it to any length.... Mock Crest is a fine example, I'm happy to convey, of "Good" plastic surgery. Their turn in the juvenation machine was a fruitful one and----to my judgment, worth every penny. From the outside, it looks very much the same as it has for decades, I'll vouch. But it is a classic example of the difference a fresh coat or two of paint can make on a place! The inside is another story altogether. Total makeover city. Wow. The innards are pretty dazzling, compared to the woebegone coutoure of yesteryear, brothers and sisters, yessiree. The clientele too, of course, is significantly younger and more life-like than the old guard. who spend a significant amount of their retirement in cozy little watering holes very much like the Mock Crest Tavern, all across this great land of ours. All of the large flat screen tvs blared ESPN and were in good repair, as were the many video poker machines, only of which a few remained spoken for while I was there... It's undeniable that success breeds many imitators, but why is it that so many local hipsters hone in on Zach Galifianakis as their obvious fashion template?? I mean c'mon now! Zach's a hilarious fellow, no doubt about it. But he's not gettin' paid b/c of his looks--- it's DESPITE of his looks. Does ANYONE disagree with this? The thought did occur, as I kicked back enjoying immensely my evenings of beer swilling and people watching @ Mock Crest Tavern recently, that perhaps Zach G. was filming in town, and had a small army of replicas out and about, to deliberately stir the pot and keep the heat off him??? There were no less than a half-a-dozen ZG lookalikes there in my recent outings @ this fine neighborhood pub, are ya tellin' me it's THAT out of the realm of possibility??? The food offerin's at MCT were nice. Their breakfast is offered round the clock which is all aces in my book. Love their scrambles and egg-white omelets! Also loved the fried pickles, chicken strips and mac n' cheese off the appetizer menu. Odds are you'll walk out of the joint happy, completely not hungry, or thirsty!,.... and amazed at how little you had to spend to achieve this only-too-temporary state of bliss....! Now. Can somebody please tell me who decided the "Trout Pout" look was sexy? Do women really look at other women rocking the "Trout Pout" and say to themselves "oooh, she is TOO cute! I just gotta get me some a' them ri-dic-ya-luss lips,,, hey boyyyys, dontcha wish your g/f had trout like me? Dontcha???"

Where friends meet. This is a really great dive. The bar food is really how bar food should be. Don't expect anything over the top Portland or hipster. This could be an anywhere dive. Enjoy it for what it is!

Too late for music masters KC Murphy, Tom Miller, my dad and others taken out by Smokers Cancers, but the Mock is Now: NON Smoking! ! Alone or meeting friends, I *always* have a good time at the Mock. Locals and regulars are friendly and silly. Laurie's Corned Beef and Cabbage dinner for St Pats was HUGE and satisfying - plenty to share. Breakfast is a bargain too - will upload pix soon. Johnny Ward puts together some of the best combos here you've heard with brass - (see pix above) bringing alive some VERY old songs you'd never hear otherwise...one reason I love Tuesdays in Portland. Weekends too. The Mock is a great place to avoid the purfume crowd - and now, NOsmoke - thank you Oregon legislature, led by now Senator jeff merkly! '09 can continue to be the year of healthy Change. Music: Tuesday -Sunday. Poker Mondays. Regulars enjoy golf & potluck events. Do get on the email newsletter list at the Web Site. The Thursday Open Mic is worth doing, particularly when Rock Star DC Malone hosts. Monthly gigs are worthy too, like First Saturday. I ALWAYS enjoy the Eagle Ridin Papas, Lauren Sheehan, Donna Jose, Sneakin Out, and other regular performers who make you glad you found this relaxed happy place. It's small, but feel free to dance. Someone is bound to join you. Food is affordable, and there are daily drink specials. Breakfast is served and an email list will let you know who's playing weekly, and clue you in to Breakfast Specials, Potlucks, and Holiday Parties. TIPS: The # 75 Bus come here, links to MAX and runs from downtown St Johns along Lombard, MLK, Dekum, & 42nd, all the way along 39th to Milwaukie. Runs often & hauls bikes - so ferget drinkin and drivin and payin for gas for a ride that could send you to jail. If you use a Cell Phone, kindly use the outside garden. Artists really depend on Tips for their daily grub, so DO. If you're too broke, why not walk the tip Jar around the room during a wildy good song, to help them make their Rent and Safeway budget. All appreciate it when you do that - with a smile. (no pressure is needed) Thankyuhverymuch. PS: yes, a Bier Garten outdoors welcomes you, even nicotine addicts, I bet. But please stay clear of the door & others if you stink! And breathe a few clean air breathes before you re-enter the club or get on a bus. Thanx.

This is one of my favorite taverns in Portland. The staff here is always fantastic. I don't live near here but have friends who do so I meet up there once a month or so. The atmosphere is comfortable and friendly. The beer selection great and the food pretty ok for a tavern. This is a place I would even go to alone and have a beer. During the summer the outside area is homey and sunny.

This place is SO comfortable. Its small and compact. The staff is great ... hard working folks just trying to get by like the rest of us. The bar top has the original linoleum from the 40's: look at the wear marks from thousands of elbows and beers. The bar stools look like originals too. The music is great and free. Stop by and have whatever beer is on special. Suck in the atmosphere. Its great!

I stumbled into a quaint neighborhood bar in north Portland this past weekend, Mock Crest Tavern, which I can't wait to hit this summer for its backyard bier garden. This place reminded me sort of a pub in Germany with a variety of good beer on tap and a charming garden patio in the back. The menu isn't fancy and it doesn't have to be. You can get a good burger and even better tots. If you're alone, you can borrow one of their laptops for free and get online. They also have free music, which is another plus. Tip: Try their homemade soup on a cold night.

i'm giving this 5 stars because it is a truly laid back, friendly neighborhood bar. It's kind of old looking on the outside and inside it's no frills either and I happen to like it that way.The employees are all so nice and friendly and the drinks and food are cheap especially during HH. I love a bar that serves food. I'm gonna miss this place when my tattoo is finished over at Infinity across the street because I've been coming here usually after my sessions and I'm almost finished. I live on the other side of town so I wouldn't go out of my way just to get a beer otherwise.

I friggin' love this place. Great Vibe and people seem really friendly and helpful. Can't beat the pitcher prices. The only thing I thought it was missing was a kick-ass jukebox but maybe I didn't see one. The live music makes up for it though. I saw Colin Lake there on Saturday.. what an awesome band!

  • Courtney S.

I love the Mock Crest! I always have fun here. The service is always friendly and competent. The food is consistent and available late. The beer garden is lovely and a lot of good bands play here for free as well year round which can make it pretty loud in the winter months as it is pretty tiny.. If you live close give the Mock Crest a try, you will not be sorry.

So I have driven by this place literally...1,000 times and have always wanted to stop. So, left work early on NYE and my co-worker and I, who also lives in the hood, decided to stop in for a quick drink. Awesome place. Met a new friend, Dan (thank you Dan for all the other recommendations) and had a STIFF Grey Goose and soda. Will be back fo sho! Friendly people behind the bar. Great mix of people and good prices. Yay No Po!

If you love being a generic Portland Tool you will love the Mock Crest. Come join the hapless masses in their frolics listen to almost musicians playing the same stuff they did last night and the night before and ....... Eat some generic bar food in a generic smoke filled atmosphere with a generic group of servers and the same bar sitting a holes you've seen your entire life. If you want a little adventure see about getting in a knife fight across the street at the Blue Parrot (actually happen while I was there, not to me. See review) Mock Crest is about the same as ever other Dive turned cool Portland scene.

Live 2 blocks away and love to come here. Perfect small place to get a burger and fresh beer. Service is friendly and consistent. Dont really enjoy live music night b/c of size of place. Same owner owns Yorgos. Keep it in the Hood!

This place serves great food and drink with passion! I've been going to this location for a year or so, and they have been consistent every time. There are quite busy every night, but they are able to keep up with every order. Atmosphere: TVs everywhere you look with the most popular sports of the day. Elevated tables, short tables, and bar seating - and the patio in back is designed to make you feel at home. In the evening, candles and dim lights add to the comfortable atmosphere. They also host a free poker tournament on Sundays and Mondays, which bring in another crowd of friendly people as well. (You'll often see one of the owners playing among his customers!) WiFi is here if you need to get some homework done, and they even have an open computer and laptop loaners for their customers! Food: Worth every penny! They buy quality products and serve awesome food! The tater tots are the best if tasted - ever! Burgers are simply the best and even salads are filling and made to perfection. Service: The staff here are great about looking after customers. It is like you are the most important thing to them at the moment, which makes you feel attended to the entire visit. They are quick and accurate. I've not had one mistake or heard one complaint about the service. The regular day cook evening stops by to ask how I like my food because she cares about what people think. Now that is service with heart! Whether you want to stop in for a cold beer, good food, TV sports, great music or free poker - this is the place to go!

Okay, I have been on Yelp for exactly one year and just wrote my first review yesterday... not sure what my problem was. As I sat and pondered what establishment I would write my second review for, Mock Crest popped into my head. Here's why... I live in the neighborhood and think of Mock Crest (the MC) as my neighborhood bar/meeting place for co-workers & friends. I am SO excited that the sun is coming out again because sitting in their outdoor patio area, day or night, on a nice warm day is like a little piece of heaven... or, at least, a peaceful haven. The service is always friendly & done with a smile. It really does feel like cheers when you walk in. Plus, they have live music & the blues burger (with blue cheese) is worth craving (as far as bar food goes.) If you are in the mood for something lighter, the hummus platter is big enough to share & goes well with the Stella on tap (served in fancy Stella glasses). I can't wait to head back to The MC... maybe on Friday:)

I like this place. Its loud inside, but that's okay. Drinks are dirt cheap and show up fast. Can't ask for more than that.

Probably the dive bar with the most soul in the 40 blocks west of Interstate and north of Lombard. A full neon bar, cheap beer, a pint-glass-of-pickles appetizer, and live acts all the time. They've also got a little patio out back. The service is usually decent too.

OK, I'm adding a star because I stopped by again recently and was reminded of the love. Like visiting a family member you haven't spoken to in awhile, then leaving thinking everything is all patched up but you still might not want to hang out with them every day...

The old house was three blocks away from this place. We found ourselves there at least once a week. Now that we have to ride a bus to get there we only go every few months. Always have the chowder, taco casserole, and the mac n' cheese. The drinks are strong, and the beer is cold. Chris, Laurie, Rochelle, and Emily always made us feel at home. The beer would be on he bar before I sat down. Can't wait for it to be smoke free in '09.

Because I'm a believer in the local dive, and this is my new neighborhood, I'm giving this 4 stars. The staff is friendly, nobody cares who you are and there's no lines on the weekend. They have breakfast and you can start drinking in the the a.m. I'll be back here, especially if I'm dining solo and can grab a bar-stool, read the news and fill up for cheap.

Can't go wrong... Great music, good friends, cheap beer and above average bar food (If not close to the best bar food around). The attention to detail at this place will make you smile. I met my wife at this bar and can not say enough about the world famouse MCT.. I moved about 20+ minutes away from this special place and I still make the drive on a weekly basis.

A great neighborhood tavern. The fried pickles are a treat for just $3! The service was great; three different folks waited on us, and they were all friendly, fast, and completely natural. A couple of musicians played, and their music fit the night's mood perfectly.

Mock Crest Tavern is like a home away from home. The staff and the regular patrons are friendly and open. This is a working man type of place where folks go to blow off steam and meet up with their friends. They have a regular music line up with some occasional good blues musicians and fun acts like Sneak'n Out. They feature a menu with standard bar fare that is always thoughtfully prepared, large portioned and tasty. When the weather is nice, there is a lovely garden out back. Mock Crest Tavern is a perfect blend of locals and transplants and has a great neighborhood bar atmosphere.
