I can't give five stars yet , given I have only have eaten here twice and each time I ordered thee chicken and waffles. I've never had the or opportunity until I walked into this place. And I have to say it's a damn good dish! PBR as a refreshment --as I am a PBR kind of guy-- I will most likely return since it's only a stones throw from PCC -Miss Delta-

We ate here on Monday, 2/16/15, and the food was very good. There were three of us in our group, and we each had a poor boy for a late lunch. I had the grilled vegetables with jack cheese, and my companions had the catfish. The salad with my entree was delicious, as were the fries with the catfish. (Yes, we did some sharing.) The only problem was the service: it was abysmal. I cannot remember the last time I did not leave at least a minimal tip, but this time I did not leave a single penny. I have done food service work, and I know it is difficult and challenging. However, the FIRST duty of the waiter is to take care of the customer's needs, and this was not the case at Miss Delta. When we arrived, there were no tables available large enough for three, so we were seated at the bar. While waiting for menus, we saw a couple get up and leave without ordering. At this point we asked the waiter to move two small tables for two together so we could be moved away from the bar. The waiter refused to do so, saying there wasn't enough room. He told us that if we didn't want to eat at the bar, then he would put us on the waiting list, and it would "be a while". Since we were hungry, we returned to the bar. After about ten minutes, the waiter returned to take our order. Water arrived as did our drinks. A table for four became available, but despite our previous request, the waiter did not move us to the empty table. As we waited, having to ask repeatedly for drink refills, other diners who arrived after us were served and left. Finally, after about 35 minutes, I saw our order sitting on the kitchen pass through. The waiter said our food would "be ready soon", and began cleaning up and restocking the bar. As our food got colder sitting on the pass through, he proceeded to, while we watched him, clean and restock. When he was done, he finally brought our order. I would return for the food, which was very good. However, if this same waiter was on duty I would turn around and walk out without hesitation. The couple we noticed that left without ordering probably did the smart thing.

Had the blackened catfish with cole slaw and collard greens. The catfish deliciously seasoned and on another level than the blackened catfish I recently had at Clay's BBQ Smokehouse. The collard greens better than those served at "Eat An Oyster Bar" by a mile. Good eats. Come again.

Came here a few times for dinner and once for brunch. The dinners were good. I had fried chicken both times. Fried Chicken was slightly over cooked one time so I don't know what is typical. I wouldn't recommend the collard greens, they definitely weren't my favorite. Overall the meals were tasty especially the mac and cheese. I think my biggest complaint is the pieces of chicken for the price are kinda skimpy. I would say if the portions were slightly bigger, it would be 4 stars. I know it's a bit lame to ding them for one star but I lived in TX for 4 years, there is SOOO much really cheap great soul food/fried chicken there. The brunch was definitely good here. Portland is a huge brunch city, this place is usually pretty available while the line is out the door at Gravy. If you're in a pinch for time, you should check out this place.

Great Bloody Marys! Great Food! Great Service! I didn't get the Southern Stack but I was VERY jealous of my friends who did. Definitely going for that next time...

Move over Gravy, there is a new kid on the strip, a dark horse overshadowed by your frenzied hype... Miss Delta is the shit!!! I was hesitant to even write a review in fear the best kept secret on Mississippi would ruin my new found haven of breakfast goodness... Have you ever had a biscuit so buttery, flaky, chewy, melt in your mouth that its actually comparable to visiting Mecca? Well, I have never visited Mecca but I have experienced love at first bite with Miss Delta... I love a place where I can eat a vegetarian option and be completely satisfied alongside my carnage loving friends... No wait for Saturday Brunch, no pretense, just down-home, scratch cooking... It was really fun to eat like a king while watching all the lemmings flock to Gravy for an hour wait and sub-par food experience...

While there was a LONG a** line at Gravy's we just walked right in and had our table! I really enjoyed my brunch! The Chicken and Waffles were absolutely delicious, the BEST!! Thanks for the great service too!

Kind of addicted to Miss Delta right now. There are a few things that I like to try when I'm trying new places. The Reuben, The Burger, and The Eggs Benedict. The burger is essentially a barbecue burger with cheese of your choice. But the eggs benedict is the winner of the menu (I bring family there so I can try more things). They do a slow smoked pulled pork eggs benedict on a biscuit with homefries. You can split this thing easily. If you like rich foods, and you are getting the benedict, you'll love this. They also have a collards and tomato eggs benedict that is also very good. Oh, and the chicken and waffles is fantastic as are the ribs. The sweet tea is ridiculously sweet so be warned. The service is very friendly I agree with Jenni A that the new owner Marcus is doing some really delicious things over there.

This place is out of this world !! Very reasonably priced. Everything is made from scratch and it shows. Good Quality. Their biscuits are better than Pine State, yes, I said it, BETTER BISCUITS THAN PINE STATE, in my opinion. They are light, buttery and flaky the way your Grandma used to make them. I ordered the Chicken Fried Steak and it was very tasty with just the right seasoning the gravy which I ordered on the side was also excellent. My friend ordered the Southern Belle which was a vegetarian option and she raved and raved about it. The service was friendly and the space is welcoming. It is right across the street from GRAVY. It is truly a hidden gem. Why wait in line with all the Lemmings at Gravy when you can have a first rate delicious meal across the street without the hour wait.

I've been a patron here for a couple years now and the quality of food has really gone downhill. I've had a bbq tofu po'boy that arrived looking like it was soaked in cold water. Food comes out cold. I keep going back for the mac n cheese and greens, but i think last night was the last visit I had an order of red beans and rice, the greens, and mac n cheese. The rice in the red beans was crunchy and tasted old. The mac and cheese was just kind of off - like it had been reheated too many times. It was soupy and lacked ...cheese! The greens were very good and flavorful as usual. my partner had shrimp creole. when it came out, he wondered if the shirmp was cooked all the way...it just looked funny! And afterwards, well, something was just off. You know how you feel after a sketchy meal? yah. Like that. I do have to say service has improved. the sweet tea is awesome. and their cocktails are always excellent I'm so bummed because i love the drinks, menu and atmosphere.

I want you to know that I desperately wanted to start this review in some kind of Larry the Cable Guy/Cleatus the Slack Jawed Yokel type voice. Because I'm just that kind of blue county elitist dickhead. Anyway. Me & Brandon met some friends of hers here for dinner a bit ago. Except we met them at Crow Bar next door because Miss Delta was full and didn't have anywhere to wait. After pounding a few Old Crows and somethings a cell phone rings and we're in. We had plenty of time to peruse the menu because the staff was SLLLOOOOOWWW. Like every movement was a lazy drawl. Fortunately I opted for the 40 oz PBR, so it wasn't like I was going anywhere any time soon anyhow. I ordered the chicken fried steak. Most stuff comes with two sides and right now I can't remember what I got, but it was good. We did share an order of hush puppies and while they didn't have too many jalapenos in them I will still never understand why people louse these things up with the devil's pickles. Lame. Actually it was kind of a theme. Everything I had at Miss Delta, except the PBR, was just almost too spicy. I guess that's a wash. I'm glad they didn't wreck my mouth with chemical burns but the food would have been still better if they hadn't bothered with the capsaicin at all. Anyway. A-OK for Miss Delta. Food was good, service was friendly but they really need to get a bit of a move on.

On a drizzly Friday night in the Mississippi district, it can be hard to get a table. Everyone is crammed in the bars, yelling over the music, pushing their way to the front in hopes of getting a drink in less than twenty minutes. Alot of these bars feel like meat markets, and a woman out alone in search of a decent meal and a glass of whiskey might have a hard time finding a place to sit and relax. Enter Miss Delta. Delicious vegan food--black eyed pea fritters! Top shelf whiskey. Smoked clam chowder that is better than any I have ever tasted. Did you go to Miss Delta once a long time ago? Maybe it was kinda greasy and not so great? Try it again. New owners, new menu, new vibe and I left with hope in my heart and fritters in my belly. Thanks!

A true hidden gem. Was introduced by a friend who works in the area. The southern stack is amazing and a true sweet tea served in a mason jar. If you want some true to the south cuisine this is a must!

My boyfriend and I have eaten our fair share of southern food. In the south and elsewhere. I was surprised how good the food was at Miss Delta. DAYUUUUUUUUUUUUM. He had the Jambalaya and I ordered the Steak Solomon (bleu cheese on top) with red beans & rice with shredded pork and mac & cheese for my 2 sides. The mac & cheese left a little to be desired. It wasn't southern style to me. They need to take a trip down south and get some mac & cheese from Voodoo BBQ and go in that direction. Or hire Paula Deen! My steak was amazing. Perfectly marinated, nice and tender, with tons of bleu cheese on top. His jambalaya was delicious and I will say that it tasted authentic. Very good on spice, nice amount of shrimp. I saw that they had fried pies, but I didn't get one. I figured the bleu cheese and mac & cheese had a zillion calories already.

Chicken and waffle! Delicious brunch and lunch items. I have never had such juicy and flavorful chicken. The service there is friendly and quick. Great place to take people out of town and experience excellent Portland food. Sweet or savory you have the options you need. Breakfast is served till 2 which is perfect if you are a sleeper inner like this guy! Enjoy!

I went to Miss Delta with my wife for St. Patrick's Day. Not much of a wait; about 15 minutes, so we walked around for a bit. They called and didn't reach me right away so they almost gave away our table. They didn't though, so we sat down. The girl had an old-fashioned and I did a NA beer and ordered up an appetizer of black-eyed pea and corn fritters. They were delicious! I forget what kind of sauce but it was SO good!!! They didn't even need a sauce, really. Moist and terrific. We took our time ordering, because everything sounded so good. The trashy mac was my wife's first choice but she changed over to the fried chicken at the last minute. I asked the couple at the table to the right of us about any suggestions, and heard nothing but raves about the pork ribs. I was hesitant at first because they only serve four ribs (and two sides) for the 16 buck charge, but it turned out to be the right choice. The fried chicken (comes in either white or dark, and she went with the white meat) was dry, for some reason. Maybe it was under a heat lamp for too long. I dunno. She had the side garden salad and mac n cheese sides, which were delicious. The ribs! Loved them. The sauce had a unique taste that I havent tasted in years (and I know ribs)! OMG I loved them so much. I had the black-eyed peas over rice and pork collard greens. The collard greens were wonderful and leafy. The peas and rice were bitter for some reason, and NOT a good fit for the meal. Fair warning. They need about 25 minutes to prep fried chix, ribs, and meatloaf. The atmosphere was AMAZING! It wasn't quiet but it wasn't too loud. Just the right environment... Oh, I almost forgot about the service. The service was great. I felt that she was personable and genuine. I asked for suggestions and she gave them. Just great... I would give 5 stars, but there were issues about the quality of our food. I will, most likely, go back there.

We walked around Mississippi neighborhood before head out to a show at Mississippi Studios. We were hungry and it was Mardi Gras, so I insisted on Southern food. We found Miss Delta and we were lucky to found a table for two. Our server came with menus and took our drinks orders. I ordered the Sweet Iced Tea and it came in big size of Mason jar. Oh sugar coma. The sweet tea was really good. I couldn't stop drinking it. We ordered our food, I ordered the Catfish dinner plate with a side of Collard Greens and a side of Red Beans and Rice. Jesse ordered the Black & Bleu Burger (burger, southern sauce, blue cheese, and veggies) which also came with Coleslaw and Hush Puppies. I love my fried Catfish. It was cooked perfectly. Collard Greens was delicious, Red Beans & Rice was meaty. Yes, it had a lot of shredded pork in it. Not enough rice in my opinion, but I ain't complaining about the taste. Jesse loved the Coleslaw & Hush Puppies that came with his meal, but not so much on the burger. I had couple bites of it and I agreed, the blue cheese is not a good pairing with the burger. The southern sauce is spicy and has a lot of kicks in it. That sauce was really da bomb. Too bad, the whole combination didn't really work all together. We were so stuffed, I didn't even get the King Cupcake that they serve for Mardi Gras. Why can't I have a XXXL size of digestion system? Overall, I have to say this... Miss Delta, you are oh so attractive. Your menu offers outstanding Southern cuisines with pretty decent price tags. Your decor is oh so charming. Your service is fast, efficient, and friendly. I don't know why I waited this long to get to know you, but I'm glad that I took that chance.

I came with a friend and some nervousness about eating with my gluten allergy. I have a love of New Orleans, and the gumbo and jambalaya I ate by the bucket fulls prior to my gluten allergy diagnosis. I was really looking forward to just smelling the stuff! I was pretty tickled pink that I could dine on the sweet potato fries and get a salad to meet my needs. My friend ate the gumbo with an "amazing" cornbread muffin. It looked great, and on a second hand review, tasted amazing. His portion was large, and considering the prices, I consider this a reasonably priced restaurant. I thought the service I received was great. My waitress was pleasant, and this was a fairly busy Saturday lunch time. It seems that there is a lot of inconsistencies in service, so my guess its all about who is working and when. I did adore the atmosphere of the place. The decor and ambiance is very New Orleans. Its just missing a little scat, humidity, and super slow pace of NOLA.

I decided to come here on a recommendation of a friend, and the fact that there isn't a crazy wait....wait, why isn't there a crazy wait? I came here for brunch with my boyfriend, and wow, it was delicious. He had the Southern Belle, and the portion was portly. He said the gravy, and veggies were delicious. I had the Fried Oyster Po' boy, and added a biscuit out of envy from watching other tables. Damn, the fried oysters were crispy, fresh, and delicious. The biscuit was one of the best I've ever had. It was fluffy, buttery, melt in your mouth deliciousness, and it was Huge! The service was friendly, and the atmosphere was casual. And the prices are very reasonable. Definitely check it out

It was time to use or lose my Groupon so it was off to Miss Delta for dinner. We got there early so we decided to eat off the happy hour menu. We started with a greyhound and a bloody Mary. The greyhound was nothing to write home about but the bloody mary was not only a dollar less but spicy, balanced and overall one of the better bloody Marys that I've had in PDX and I've had few. As a starter we got an order of hush puppies and one of corn fritters. Both were nicely Fried and not too greasy. They were good but they really needed pepper jelly and not the bland mustard sauce or pea sauce that come with them. For dinner we went with a couple of Mac & cheese and the collard greens with pork. Toss a few drops of Crystal hot sauce on collard greens and they are almost addictive. We shared two macs, the meatloaf and the gumbo Mac & cheese. Both were good but a little bland. It may just be me but I like a little cheddar in my Mac & cheese. The pasta was cooked just right soft but still with that al dente toothyness. Finally, for dessert we went with the bread pudding and the mixed berry hand pie. The bread pudding was unique. I'm not a big fan of bread pudding but my wife enjoys it and this was the first time we'd seen bread pudding made with cornmeal. Maybe a tad dry but tasty and different. The hand pie on the other hand must have come from dessert heaven. It had the flakiest crust that I've had since lard went out of fashion. The mixed berry filling was sweet but not too sweet and with a small scoop of vanilla ice cream the berry hand pie may just be good enough too skip dinner for. Overall Miss Delta was a fun food trip and definitely worth consideration the next tme you find yourself on Mississippi St.

We knew what we wanted within five minutes of sitting down!!! Fried Chicken +1 Grits and Cheese +1 Fritters +1 Jambalaya +1 Mint Juleps +1 5 stars for the food!!! Breakdown of the service: Seated Immediately +1 Service with a Smile +1 "Thank you" received upon payment +1 ***Warning: If you do not like introducing negative energy into your life then stop reading now because from here on out my review is one big ol' complaint. Service "breakdown": 30 minutes before order was taken after sitting down :( :( :( *I asked for someone to come over to the table after 10min* 20 minutes before mint juleps were served (after order was taken) :( 40 minutes before food was served (after order was taken) :( No refills the on water, after food was delivered :( :( :( :( "Here is a TEA SAUCER". Maybe they were out plates? :( :( :( :( No complimentary bread to hold us over :( No apology of any kind for any of this :( All in all we waited 75 minutes between sitting down and getting our order without table bread, an apology for the wait or a thank you for our patience. When the food finally came I had to eat my meal off of a tea saucer and they took away our water pitcher but never brought a refill for my really cool drinking jar....are you kidding me?!?!?! I felt like I was on punked or silent library or some other show where they mess with people for sport. Miss Delta, what did I ever do to you to deserve this kind of treatment? I want you to know that you didn't deserve that 15% tip. See I usually give 20% and I thought 15% would "teach you your lesson" but now I realize that no tip would have gotten the message across much more clearly. I'll only be back to pick up a to go order, the food was really good after all.

I was in the mood for some serious comfort food. I just wanted some good country fried steak and potatoes. Didn't think it was possible to screw that up. BUT they did. There was an over abundance of rosemary in the gravy and breading of the steak. It was so over powering that I could barely choke it down. The greens left something to be desired. They were busy when we walked in but got a table relatively fast. The server spent more time chatting with co-workers and other "guests" to really care about event taking our drink order. Once the drink order had been placed it took an exceptionally long time to get our drinks and even longer to get the food. If I want good country fried steak...I will go to iHop. At least I know theirs will be edible. Will never go here again.

The yam fries were greasy, jambalaya was not tasty, the gumbo was blah. Ok service, it took them quite sometime to bring our food. Killer Corn Bread though :)

The restaurant is atmospheric, the breakfast is great, and the decor is eclectic. I'm a biscuits n' gravy fiend, so naturally, that's just what I ordered when we stumbled across this place on one typically rainy, dark, and windy Portland morning. It was absolutely delicious... Although be warned- If you finish your meal completely, you will be left in a food coma for at least one day. It's totally worth it, though.

Had some impatient friends from out of town who weren't willing to wait for our foursome to be called across the street at GRAVY. We saw the cute storefront of Miss Delta, scanned the menu and figured 'why not?' It's a very cute place that had the promising smell of meat roasting and absolutely no wait. They serve Stumptown piping hot in chic glass cups and have trendy chalkboard-painted tables along with chalk for the (too long) wait. My friend and I got the eggs benedict--his with collard greens and tomato, mine with pulled pork--and sides of bacon. Eggs were cooked completely through, he got a lot of potatoes on the side while I had about 10 small cubes, and the bacon was overdone. The vegetarian friend got the Belle sandwich or something and said it was cold and 'just okay.' The boyfriend got the chicken fried steak which was nice and tender, covered in yummy gravy and came with some legit, but luke-warm, grits. This brunch came to $51, which was too much for a strictly mediocre meal. Too bad.

In our ongoing quest for fried chicken in Portland, my friend and I tried Miss Delta. We agreed that it's very disappointing; in fact, so disappointing that it has inspired my first review in Yelp. The Caesar salad was good and the waffle was not bad. For the chicken, a sharp knife was required to saw through the rock-hard crust and arrive at a vast mass of gummy and flavorless breading. A pathetic piece of chicken was swimming deep in the core of this mass. We were able to gripe and bitch about the food without worrying about giving offense, because they turned the music up unbearably loud as 6:00 approached. Their prices are quite high compared with various places that don't have the upscale Mississippi St. ambience but have better fried chicken and maybe more character.

This place is wayyyy better than the stars on here reflect. They have the best fried chicken in town. It is crispy flavorful with just a little bit of scald on it. PERFECT! Everything else I have had here is great too just all around a great meal.

I've been coming here for quite some time after finding it to be a reliable no wait brunch place. I usually get the southern stack and got it again today. It was better than its ever been and I wish I would have split it because it was just too big! The service is fantastic. I'd be willing to wait for this place.

The menu at Miss Delta gives you a great selection of Cajun food and cocktails - so I was excited as soon as we sat down. I was not disappointed. Service began immediately with the waitress asking us for a drink order right away; we sent her away as we were with our 4 year old, but she was back in a perfect amount of time. Great selection of wine too - which is what we were in the mood for. I had the Jambalaya - dirty rice, chicken, shrimp - hot but not too hot. My wife had the shrimp and grits - awesome and spicy. Side of collard greens made us happy with hot sauce. Corn muffin rocked with lots of real corn in it. All the entrees were generous and of course filling - no fried pie for me. Waitress checked in often, but not too much and was really pleasant despite being ridiculously busy. She got a great tip - we left fat and happy. Looking forward to trying a po boy for lunch soon. Thanks Miss Delta.

So we want to give 3.5 but I'll drop down to 3 for now. We'll try it again and see how it goes. Funky little place with fun decor for Halloween. We beat the crowds so sat right away. It seemed like people didn't have to wait long as they came in later. We tried one fried chicken meal and one pulled pork. There is a lot of competition in Portland for both. Fried Chicken: We would rank the fried chicken in the middle. It was good but not Screen Door or Bernie's great fried chicken. You have to pick between white or dark meat and it is skin on. The flavor was pretty good but if you don't eat chicken skin (probably a lot of people now) you miss out on the flavor some. We did like it better than Country Cat and some others not even worth mentioning. Pulled Pork: Very good quality meat and didn't hit any fat areas or dry areas. Nicely pulled apart so it was tender all the way through. I always ask for the slaw on the side. The flavor was mostly on the sweet side but now and then I had a bit of vinegar sneak in there. Sweet Potato Fries: I always have an issue with restaurants that serve yams and call them sweet potato's. If you buy these in the grocery store they are yams - you know orange in color. They were unique and I did enjoy them very much. Very thick cut and baked. The portion is very large so make sure it is for more than one person. Maybe next time we'll get there in time to try happy hour. Note they charge $1 to use Visa or MC so bring some cash.

My friends and I were all visiting Portland and staying in an apartment right across from Miss Delta. We initially planned to get brunch at Gravy, but due to the long wait + freezing cold weather, we decided to check out Miss Delta. So glad we did! Talk about a satisfying breakfast. We were seated right away (no wait, compared to 45 minutes? YES PLEASE), and the service was great, my fresh juice was delicious and the soul food-style breakfast offerings were tasty. I had the Chicken Fried Steak with cheese grits. The cheese grits were fantastic, the chicken fried steak was a little on the mushy side, but lord knows it was fresh. Overall I'd come back here. Such a quaint little neighborhood too!

My grief with Miss Delta is in the greens. Full of stems, undercooked, gritty! Meatloaf and sweet potato fries were OK. Our waitress was attentive and sweet - no problem with the service. The drinks were also delicious. Poorly washed and stemmy collard greens, however, are kind of inexcusable for any restaurant that calls itself southern.

Have you ever walked into a place where happy hour wasn't even on your mind only to be presented with a happy hour menu? I imagine it is like opening presents on Christmas morn, but since I don't celebrate Christmas, I wouldn't really know. Moving on. I love me some southern food. Still probably my favorite type of cuisine. Yes, it can be greasy. Yes, it can be a bit difficult on the stomach. I don't eat it often, but when I do, I dive straight in and with abandon. Walking around the Mississippi area (I don't get up here very often, but when I do, I always wonder why I don't get up here more often) looking to get some drinks after a friends art opening, the company (names not included to protect the innocent or slightly innocent) I was with made mention of this place. I've been to the Delta Cafe many times, so trying Miss Delta was on the radar. I forgot that it was in the Mississippi neighborhood, so I'm glad she mentioned it. The place was slightly packed when we got in after 10 on a Friday night, but we found a table at the front of the restaurant and were promptly greeted with a hello and some menus including the happy hour menu. Happy, happy, joy, joy, some happy hour food I will try. Don't come here for the beer. The pints are $3 at happy hour (always a good thing), but they don't have much of a draft selection. Next time I'm in this part of town looking for beer, I'll head up a block to Prost. My company and I each ordered the Southern Sampler which is $6 off of the HH menu. With this dish you get your choice of 3 sides which include Collard Greens-slow cooked w/pork or vegan, Red Beans and Rice-simmered w/ham hock or vegan, Mashed Potatoes-with chicken or veggie gravy, Mac and Cheese, Black Eyed Peas-served over rice-vegan, or a Green Salad-w/caesar or apple vinaigrette dressing. I had the Collard Greens, Mac and Cheese and Red Beans and rice. This also came with a corn bread muffin which we were told they were out of, but clearly they weren't. The waitress even gave us an order of hushpuppies on the side because they said they were out of corn bread. Score!!! I finished every bite of everything that was presented to me. My company was impressed with my eating technique. I'm not sure if I should be proud or ashamed. I'll go with proud for now. Service was extremely friendly and prompt. The place even closed while we were there, but nobody forced us to leave. I'm sure that would have eventually happened, but we didn't overstay our welcome. I like this place. I like it a lot.

I really like this place! The service is AMAZING! Most of the food is AMAZING! My favorites are the Wedge Salad with blackened chicken, and the gumbo! Very flavorful! This place also has very nice mixed drinks, my fav is the Outlaw. House infused ginger whiskey with home made lemonade?!? ILL TAKE IT :) 5 stars!

came here with my husband and two friends on Monday night. I wasn't sure after my last experience but can't complain about a single thing. everything we had was wonderful! we arrived around 7:00 and only had to wait a few minutes for a table to open up. since it's all night happy hour on Monday, our eyes were definitely bigger than our stomachs with everything we ordered (but we ate it all!!) we started with fried okra, hush puppies and sweet potato fries. the hush puppies arrived first. there are 4 to an order, so it was the perfect beginning to the feast we had to look forward to. next came the fries and okra. the okra was delicious but the fries were unlike anything we had ever tried - cut lengthwise, they were baked instead of fried and served with applesauce. yum! next we had our sandwiches - all $6 each. two of us had pulled pork and the other two had po boys (oyster and shrimp).the pulled pork was great and everyone else enjoyed their sandwiches. the sandwiches were huge and we still ate everything. they all enjoyed cocktails while I tried another mason jar full of lemonade. it was a bit sweeter this time which made all of the difference. the only negative came and the end of the evening as our server was a bit confused as to how we wanted to split the bill, but it all worked out in the end. can't wait to return again for happy hour, though the chicken fried steak looks amazing!

Much closer for me than either Delta Cafe or Montage, and several notches above either, quality wise. To be more precise, I USED TO really love Delta, but they keep slipping a little more, each time I go back, especially in the service/congeniality dept. Montage, well Montage would have to go a long ways to undo the deeply-ingrained impression already cemented by 20+ years of their boo-yah. Everything I've yet tried @ Ole Miss Delta has been really good. We particularly loved their shrimp and grits, collard greens (w/ham-- they also have vegetarian style), the great big, tasty catfish fillets-- deep fried of course--and the fonky mac 'n' cheese w/gumbo was a unanimous winner. They've been in businees here @ the trending rejuvenated N. Mississippi alley for 5 years now, and hopefully they have no plans of going ANYWHEREEbut continue to keep sending us to the moon w/their dynamite recipes and mongo portions! The place always seems to be busy, w/a vibrant youthful buzz. Some day I'd sure like to sit down, dine in and have a few well considered libations. But Dag, Ole Miss Delta is *so* much better than the fallen Montage, oh how I wish they'd stay open late like Montage does! That'd make it this a 5 star rating, no problem-o!

I was impressed with the atmosphere of this place. We had so much fun and the food was yummy! I can't wait to go back. I love that Portland has so many neighborhoods with excellent restaurants stashed within! Portland Rocks and I will go back to Miss Delta! My dessert was fun and our server, Lauren, was an absolute Doll! She really made our trip fun. Thanks for the great food. I would send friends there in a heartbeat!

Last time I stopped in with friends, they had $2 sessions, which was the start of a very crazy hazy evening...... But I remember the hush puppies! And I also remember being AMAZED at how many plates and bottles were on the table, compared to how low our bill was. Not a bad way to spend a Monday night.

Walked in for dinner on a whim because the place was very busy at 9pm on a Friday. I sat at the bar with my BF because we couldn't tell if it was a seat yourself situation or not (I asked later and they said it was unless they are really busy). Our waitress Lauren was really nice and answered all of our food questions in great detail. We ordered a sausage app off the daily menu (delicious especially with their dipping sauce), corn bread (nothing special - I'd pass), bbq brisket sandwich with fries (great - perfect smokey taste and bite to the bbq), and mac-n-cheese (TO DIE FOR - 4 or 5 cheeses and homemade). He had a micro brew and I had a class of house red wine (would recommend it) and a scoop of their homemade ice cream for dessert. The break-down: Food: Delicious, heavy (duh it's southern style), good size portions - I took leftovers home Price: About what you'd expect, apps $4-8, entrees $9-18, sides $3-8, cocktails $8-10 (but they locked good and a bit unusual), ect - Not cheap eats but not a wallet buster either and once you taste the food you are really okay with the prices Atmosphere: fun, causal, beautiful old brick interior, great HUGE bar seats - sooo comfy, great place for couples, friends, and even family - I wouldn't have a group larger than 4 or 5 though Staff: Friendly once you proved to be friendly (typical Portlanders, if you are nice then they will usually be nice), knowledgeable on food, good for a quick side chat, knew the regulars I heard that their breakfast is killer so we will have to go back soon.

I refrained from writing a review for Miss Delta after my first visit, mostly because it was a really underwhelming experience, and also because I was just a bit hungover. When you need a meal as quickly as I did that day to get myself standing upright, it isn't fair to judge what happens next. I did, however, find my way back here recently, and am sort of sad to say my experience was pretty much the same. I had a Caesar with chicken, and my guest had pulled pork sandwich. They were both fine, don't get me wrong, but the wait was fairly epic, like 40 minutes for a salad... and in the end I couldn't help but feel that although they were crowded, they likely wouldn't be if they weren't occupying prime real estate on Mississippi. The sweet tea was tasty and definitely the high point of the meal!

Yeah, the food here is mostly A-OK, especially if you're from the South and you know what fried chicken is actually supposed to taste like (aka way greasier and saltier and better). But the happy hour, 5-6 and 10-close every day, is a great deal. Stick to appetizers, sides and beer and you'll be fine.

when the owner of the s.e. delta sold out to open the miss delta i didn't think much of it. i live in s.e. so thought "meh, i don't wanna go all the way up there." that was the dumbest/laziest thought process i have ever had. i finally got up there and it was great. i got really friendly service, and real belly friendly food. the dining area is small, so if you wanna eat during what we all know to be the busier times keep that in mind. p.s. -to the s.e. delta- Hush yo moufs an hide yo faces. you don't compare. wear it.

Being that this place is on the ever- growing, popular, Mississippi avenue, I had high hopes this place was going to be awesome. My family stuck to the traditional meat BBQ dishes whereas I chose to have a wedge salad. Disclaimer: I'm not on a diet, I friggen love ribs but was craving a salad. The wedge salad had huge chunks of bacon and bleu cheese alongside another meat of your choice if you so desire it. Yes, the food was incredible and the atmosphere was great, but what disappointed me was the service. From the time we were brought to our table, I knew our waitress wasn't exactly the brightest. Not once did the waitress come by to refill drinks unless my father wanted another beer (he was the only one who got refills). On top of that, my mom ordered soup as a side dish and it was brought to our table cold, so we requested the nuking of her soup to avoid problems to save time. I put my judgements aside because I was super hungry. Everybody's meat dishes came out first. It took the chefs an hour to prepare a salad, incorrectly and additional few minutes to doctor their mistake. My salad had been ready before everyone else's food but I asked for catfish on my salad and they put chicken on it. I love chicken and was going to be fine with the mistake but the waitress walked away before she could hear my request. They fixed the salad and I went ham on it. Super yummy! Though there was the mistake and long wait for my food, the waitress was very kind and eliminated the cost of my salad from the bill. I will be back again :)

The mint julep was sweet, minty, and an amazing way to start my weekend! The happy hour menu was surprisingly hard to choose from and I went with the fried oysters, tasty. Looking forward to making a return trip to try the gumbo or jambalaya.

Stringy & dry fried chicken, crunchy (raw) rice, watery whiskey drink. Someone is not minding the store. Does not hold a candle to Screen Door.

I give it only two stars because of the lack of service and the extensive wait to get a drink, to place an order, and to be served the meal. It took about 60 minutes to finally get the food. It appeared they were grossly understaffed and could not keep up. Too bad that the poor service is more memorable than the food experience, which was actually pretty good. Don't know if I'll go back. It looks like other reviewers have also had similar service experience.

I have to say that my one time at Miss Delta made me appreciate the original Delta much much more. The food was OK, but it just couldn't match the real thing. Maybe it was an off night, and I'll def. go back to try, but at this point in time SE wins!!!!

Great dinner and service! I'm not a southern snob so I can't speak to it's southern authenticity, but who cares, it tasted great. The collared greens and cornbread are done just right and my entree (cheesey something that I can't recall) with tomato sauce was incredible in taste and texture. This is just darn good comfort food that will leave you feeling satiated.

I wasn't around PDX for the heydey of the Delta Cafe. However, it was one my first dining experiences in Portland and I loved it, crappy service and house flies be damned. That's why I was excited to stumble across Miss Delta in the old Pasta Bangs diggs on N. Mississippi. I was hoping for the same great (or even better) food with a professional staff an more upscale setting. Miss Delta mostly delivered the goods on both fronts. While I wasn't blown away, I thoroughly enjoyed my dining experience. The biggest problem of the night was getting seated. We were a group of 10 and there is really only one place in the establishment built to handle a group of that size. We made reservations for 8, a full two hours after the previous large group's reservations. We didn't get seated until nearly 8:45, but that really wasn't the restaurants fault; the previous group just lingered at the table for an exceedingly long time. The group started out with a mixed bag of bottles of wine and cocktails. My buddy coerced me into going in on a bottle of cab-franc. It wasn't bad, but at $23, i think i would have gotten much more utility out of the $15 cab-sauv/merlot/shiraz blend. I didn't really get to sample the cocktails, but they were well received by my party. A round of hush puppies and fritters came next with the hush puppies winning out as the table's preferred appetizer. I'm not a big hush puppy guy, but the cornbread inners were nice and moist and they were deep fried a nice golden brown. The fried chicken was a popular choice and our table got the last three available. It was delightfully crispy and juicy without being greasy. I snagged a few bites, but ordered the blackened catfish. It was tasty, but it could have been a little crispier/crustier on the outside. Flavor was excellent with just a little spice. I loved the greens and the mac and cheese was creamy and garlicy... think bistro montage (though not quite as good). The steak was okay, but slightly overrated in my opinion. The best part was the blue cheese, which doesn't say much for the beef. Those who actually ordered it as their entree seemed satisfied though. Overall the food was quality and the service was attentive without being overbearing (just the right mix). Dark, moody lighting gave a mysterious feel without any angsty brooding. mix n match decor with a stately bar tied it all together. I don't know if it's the best southern food in portland, but it's certainly a quality establishment with good eats.

Talk about underwhelming. Over-fried chicken, burned beans, inauthentically sweet cornbread, incorrectly made cocktails. My jambalaya was ok, but ultimately weak. I can pay less for better food at Montage. At least our server was pleasant - those two stars are for her.

We had the shrimp and crawfish boil( Tue night special) and it was fabulous and a great deal for $12!! It easily feeds 2 people as it includes corn, sausage and potatoes. But we added a rice and beans and a hush puppies order. Excellent rice and beans. Would pass on hush puppies. Service was good but a bit slow. Good place for families. Our bill with food above and 2 iced teas came to $21!! Great value for price. I love the Montage for many many dishes and its hard to top them. However this is a great neighborhood joint with good food and good prices. I would return for sure!

Really cool ambiance and different, delicious food. Mr. T and I went in about eight o'clock on a Friday night, and it looked pretty crowded. I wasn't in much of a mood to wait, but the low-light, cozy-looking tables and plates of fried chicken persuaded us to put our names in. A waiter came by and we asked how long the wait would be. "How about this table right here?" he said, seeming to pull a table out of his hat. We were stoked. Mr. T started with an Old Fashioned, which he liked quite a bit. I worked on a mug of very-sweetened, delicious iced tea. We got black-eyed pea fritters as an appetizer, which were fried to high heaven and pretty delicious. Next time I plan to try the fried okra. For dinner Mr. T had the jambalaya and I had the shrimp gumbo. They were both pretty good, though not as innovative as the dishes I've had at Montage. The dishes were accompanied by dense corn-bread and collared greens. The greens were a bit much for me, actually; I got them the pork-cooked way, and the hoggy taste with big old pieces of pig was a bit too much for me. I'll probably try the vegetarian variety next time. Just depends on how much you like pig. Portions are big. Next time, Mr. T and I plan to split, maybe one of the po' boys, and save some room for dessert. Service was friendly and efficient.

This is a great place to go to self-medicate with bourbon and mashed potatoes. It's also a great place to go to enjoy a very epic meal with a buddy at a nice little table, under some sweet chandeliers, fanning yourself over a plate of gumbo or a really, really serious bleu cheese-crusted steak. I always get the caesar salad, which is super- garlicky and has fried capers, and is charming. The waitresses are pretty and the cocktails are delicious (and occasionally deadly). I'm partial to the Miss Ruthie's Lucky #7, which is what I wish a mint julep tasted like (though they make those too). I have no idea if this is authentic Southern food or not, but it's definitely in accordance with my personal vision of what the South ought to be like, based entirely on various films I have seen. It's little and gets way cramped on the weekends, but what are you gonna do. I'm docking one star because of the whole stunt they pulled by offering brunch (a.k.a. Pork Belly Benedict, the Most Delicious Brunch of My Life), only to totally destroy me when I showed up several weekends later, starving and bereft to find them closed because they decided to to discontinue serving brunch (a.k.a The Most Tragic Sunday of My Life). What am I supposed to do, go to Gravy (ew)?!

i often walked by miss delta without thinking about stopping in... until last weekend: i'm not sure if it was because the people i was with (we were all tired, hungover, hungry), but it seemed like a while before we got our food. i ordered the captain's platter- an assortment of fried fishies (oysters, catfish, shrimp)... the serving size was HUGE and SO artery clogging GOOD! i'm eager to try some more southern recipes!

i really wanted miss delta to be just like the delta cafe over on woodstock. it's not. it's just missing something. it's great that miss delta is closer to my place, but i'd go the distance to eat at the original delta cafe next time i've got a craving for it.

wow, okay I guess it's opposite day. after reading all of these reviews about the terrific food and the terrible service, er, uh... the service was awsome! seriously! she was attentive, sweet, and wore a cute cardigan! and the food came out fast! but the food was really mediocre. A previous review mentioned loving this place unless your gramma was Paula Dean... and okay I'm biased... grew up in NOLA with a cajun gramma; which is why I won't judge the shrimp and grits (that's south carolina low country, love the stuff, but don't feel qualified to compare) other than to say this is the first time I've had the dish where the grits were fried and quartered more like polenta than grits. and the shrimp were bland, and frozen. not necessarily bad, but definitely not authentic. more meh (based on the shrimp alone) than anything. oyster po-boy... oysters were great. Bread was horrid. Advertised as "dressed" which in NOLA po-boy speak means lettuce, tomato and mayo: menaspalace.com/menu.php But at Miss Delta "dressed" means a funny tasting remoulade served alongside coleslaw. Cornbread soggy, red beans and rice had CARROTS in them (WTF?) which I could overlook if actually tasted good. Friends, I've got hamhocks in my freezer (I'm not joking.) Come over for the real stuff anytime. but again, the oysters were pretty good, and my dinner companions both seemed to enjoy the meal overall, and I'm tired of being the resident curmudgeon on all things southern. so, there. it's fine.

Recently brought a large group out to dinner at Miss Delta, and everyone in the group truly had a great experience. The food was amazing and rivals any Southern food place in the city, including Screendoor. The mac n cheese was perfect, the ribs were flavorfull and literally feel off the bone, the meatloaf was to die for and so tasty, and the fried chicken was delish as well. Our server was a very nice young man who was so patient with our large and (sometimes) rowdy group and he was quick, efficient, and friendly. I truly appreciate him being so nice to us. We will be back! And the prices - awesome!!! 10 people for dinner and drinks and the bill was $189 - can't beat that! We will be back!

Have you ever wondered what would happen if your life had taken a different path? Would it have made a difference if you had met that artistic free spirit with the Hugh Grant hair just after college instead of after you started hanging out with the human Goldendoodle? What if you had taken that job with the start-up company instead of staying in the ivory tower? Would you be where you are now? Or would you be lazing on a beach in Capri? Rooted in suburbia generating 2.5 children? Bopped in with some friends after doing some eye-opening people watching up north. If we hadn't gone to another Southern mecca first (*cough* Screen Door *cough*) I suspect that this place would have a different place in our queue. Came in toward the end of the dinner rush & most of the tables were taken. They whisked the reserved sign away & gave our group of 4 the large table in between the bar & the kitchen. Super efficient: the table was quickly set & water magically appeared in front of us. Our waitress was very friendly, patient & spot on in her recommendations, & had that rare balance of attentive but not looming. I must say that Miss Delta's cocktail namesake was divine, the perfect combination of tangy, sweet pomegranate goodness with just the right kick of vodka. The sidecar had an interesting twist with fresh OJ & bitters which overwhelmed the subtlety of the play between the tangy juice & the sweetness of the brandy & sugared rim. Capt Hook's Outlaw: bourbon, ginger, bitters & simply syrup was just a'ight, lacking that punch of flavor that makes you sit up & say, "Wow!" Apparently earlier in the evening some large groups had descended & gobbled up all the ribs & sweet potato pecan pie. But truthfully, if you put fried chicken on the menu I have a hard time looking at anything else. Even Superman had his Kryptonite, right? The fried chicken was well cooked, very juicy & tender. The breading was very crispy but rather bland. Chose the mac & cheese and red beans & rice with pork for my sides. The mac & cheese was disappointingly bland, truly forgettable. The red beans & rice with pork was seasoned well but a bit too soupy. Had some of my friend's hush puppies which were moist but a little bland. The fried catfish was tender but had a very fishy & oily tang. Our other companion who's no longer a growing boy was still hungry enough after his fish & 2 sides (collard greens & black eyed peas) that he had to snarfle some of my chicken. Capt Hook's dinner special was easily the star of the meal: stuffed pork chops with poached pear slices. The succulent pork with savory bread stuffing paired well with the sweet pears. His sides of mashed potatoes & garlic green beans were delicious; creamy starchy potatoes with a little bite from the skins, perfectly salty garlicky green beans cooked just right with a little crunch. The Grand Marnier crème brûlée was the only dessert left after the gastronomic locusts had departed. It was very creamy but with a pasty consistency & had no discernible Grand Marnier/citrus flavor. So if the artsy Hugh Grant had made an appearance before the human Goldendoodle & the plucky little start-up had tipped the balance the other way, the tally might have been different by an additional star. But really who knows about the road less traveled? 1 star for the great service. 1 star for the great drinks. 1 star for the pork chop special. -1 star for the bland inconsistency of the regular menu items. -1 star for the pricey drinks ($7 for less drink than you'd get for the same or slightly cheaper price elsewhere with similar execution).

I had been wanting to try out Miss Delta for eons, and when we stopped in for happy hour last night we were not disappointed. The happy hour menu is full of great stuff and I *loved* the bbq riblets with blue cheese dressing on the side (even if the dressing was runny rather than chunky). For only $6 I expected a smaller portion and instead felt like I got dinner! Good in a way but definitely one of those things the waitstaff needs to tell you when you ask if it's good for a snack for one person. The sweet potato fries, however, were bad. I love that they were served with applesauce, but the flavor was almost nonexistent - like those ones you can buy in the frozen food aisle. My friend had the po'boy which she really liked. Cocktails? Awesome. The ginger drop rivals the one I get at Clyde Common but unfortunately so did the price (not much of a deal on cocktails at happy hour). The Miss Delta, which my friend had, was pretty awful though - like a liquid jolly rancher or Kool-Aid with vodka, kinda scary. Great dimly lit atmosphere and good service, although our waitress seemed definitely overloaded, often going behind the bar to mix our drinks along with helping customers. Let's get her some help! One last note - please wipe down the menus, they were both sticky, eww! Either way, overall a good experience and I look forward to returning to try out more of the items on the menu (and have another drink!).

Tough ribs, sauce was 'eh. Tried someone's chicken-flavorless. Jambalaya tasted like it came out of a tub from Costco. And I was surprised they could mess up red beans and rice but somehow they microwaved it too long. I won't be going back, and if you can, just go to the Screen Door or EAT and have a good meal. I must say the service was good, but I can smile an serve you a mud pie and it doesn't make it taste any better.

The mashed potatoes and mac and cheese were both delicious, but the fried chicken was sub par. It was crispy on the outside, which is nice, but fairly dry and not very flavorful. I love hushpuppies! These ones had jalapenos in them and came with a sour cream dipping sauce. Not a traditional hushpuppy, but still very good. My dining partners loved what they got, and my sides were good, so I'd be willing to come back. The service was also great and my soda came in a (clean) mason jar! Cute!

I love food. My favorite foods lately are mac and cheese and mashed potatoes. Miss Delta serves both. I happened upon this lovely gem of a restaurant last night. I overheard some people talking about the gorgeous fried chicken and I am a sucker for fried...anything pretty much. They were right!! They served the best fried chicken I have ever tasted in my life---crispy, crunchy, spicy crust. And the mashed potatoes were served with vegan gravy, but it had that delicious artery-clogging yumminess that makes gravy so appealing, so you couldn't even tell it was vegan. The mac and cheese was good too, not totally amazing, but good. My favorite part about Miss Delta was that the waitress seated us at a booth with a tiny Dia De Los Muertos replica of PORTLAND. It was very detailed---with little paper skeletons and impressing accurate depictions of Portland haunts. The waitress was really nice, the atmosphere was dimly lit and decorated with haunted-looking photos, and the food was great.

The food was fine, typical fare for a Pdx restaurant featuring southern style food. However, I will never go there with a large group. We had 13 people, but were in several smaller groups. The waitress refused to give us seperate checks, requiring us to spend about 20 minutes after a relaxing meal figuring out who owed what. It was a frustrating experience that ruined everyone's night, and not because anyone was trying to get out of paying. If you want to add a small fee to ensure you recoup the .24 that you are charged each time you run a card, do it! But if your waitress can't be boehered to work at least as hard as someone in any diner, I'll take my business elsewhere.

Sweet tea! I'm hard pressed not to order the special everytime, or their meatloaf (if it's not the special). My personal favoite sides are the mac and cheese (sometimes I'll just get a double mac and cheese to go and rent a movie next door for a nice night at home) and the collard greens will knock you over! It would be silly not to mention the balckened catfish, either the salad or the sandwich, you just can't go wrong!

A pretty good place overall. The food is really heavy, which isn't always bad. The portions are enormous. I had a cajun shrimp dish which was so so, but the corn bread and red beans and rice were really nice. I also appreciate the mashed potatoes with sausage gravy. Why doesn't everyone eat their mashed potatoes that way?

Great southern style food. Meatloaf and mashed potatoes were amazing. They even tasted good cold the next day for dinner. If you like traditional southern food this place is for you. Very friendly and pleasant staff / decor. Bloody Mary loaded with spicy extras which was a delicious addition to our meal. Eat slowly as food is VERY filling and they give good down home size portions.

This place claims to be southern, but I'd say it's more southern-fusion, as evidenced by the blue cheese-pear stuffed meatloaf special I got there the other night. Whatever it is it was quite tasty, with a fun atmosphere, specialty cocktails, and open late!

I am a Yankee. A tried and true norhterner with almost no personal experience in the deep south. Sure I spent a weekend in Memphis and consider Bourbon County, KY to be my true home but I can't say that I am any expert in southern cooking. I know what I like though and Miss Delta fits it to a T. I don't have any problem with innovation in cuisine and I had no problem with the fact that some of these dishes might not be the "standard" recipes. I went here on new years eve with a party of 12! No reservations just a gaggle of hungry fools looking for feed. We called in advance to see if it was even worth the effort and were told right up front that they could hook us up but only if we showed up promptly at 5:00 and were finished by 6:15. Fair enough. We showed up a couple of minutes early and immediately set up with drinks. It was a cold day and about half the table ordered Hot Toddies. Raves all around. Dinner and app orders were taken and snakatizers came out quickly. Black eyed pea fritters and sweet potato fries were excellent -especially the fritters. Dinner orders covered a lot of ground but with a high volume of pescatarians the catfish proved to be especially popular. I think 4 or 5 people in our party ordered it and all agreed it was excellent. Other hits were the mac and cheese, jambalaya, and veggie greens. I personally partook of the meatloaf of the day - blue cheese, bacon, and apple - with a side of the collard greens -with ham hocks please! - and mashed taters and vegan gravy. First let me say, I am picky about meat loaf and rarely order it out. This was far and away the best meatloaf I have ever had. The quality of the meat was excellent not over ground or extra bready. Perfectly cooked with a crunch on the outside but juicy on the inside. The bacon was mixed in but the cheese and apple was ribboned through the center and infused the slice with a sweet, rich flavor. The greens were excellent with a big hunk o' ham. A little salty but not over salted or oppressively smoky. The mashers were a good consistency. Not starchy and the gravy had a nice mushroom flavor that complemented the meatloaf well. Service was excellent, friendly and attentive and never made us feel rushed.

Delicious meat loaf with blue cheese and apples! The drinks are great and old-timey. I like this place SO much better than the Pasta Bangs restaurant it used to house. I'm not sure you could call this place authentically Southern, but it's good anyway.

I'm from Texas. First time going to Miss Delta. Best fried okra I've ever had. Cheddar grits with shrimp were a very interesting take on the dish. Not what I was expecting, but GOOD. Fried catfish was perfectly done, a really nice cut of fish. Red beans and rice were stellar. Service was great. Very friendly, very prompt. No complaints at all. I'll definitely be going back to Miss Delta.

Take it from me, a former New Orleans resident, Miss Delta has the best southern cooking in Portland. Excellent food, though sometimes the service is slow. But, that's also southern:)

We walked in from the rain starving and looking forward to the comfort that only delicious southern food can bring. Then we waited. And waited. And waited. Then we waited some more. Eventually, we were served. By that I mean the waitress said hello and took our drink order. Then we waited some more. And more. After 40 minutes or so, we finally got to place our order. Then guess what we did? That's right! We waited. And then waited more, our appetizer never materializing, even though we reminded the waitress that we were still waiting for the hush puppies (which by the way, are usually pre-made and just need to be thrown in a basket). Eventually, our food arrived, and it was incredible, it really was (coming from a southern boy). However, since I have personally had better service from reluctant, surly Russian servers in a country that is known for its lack of customer service, I cannot give this restaurant more than 2 stars.. I mean, the service here is really really bad. Well, maybe it was only last night, but there really is no excuse for restaurant service to EVER be that bad. We even had to skip the movie we had planned to watch, since going to dinner took more than 2 hours from sitting down to walking out the door. Most of that time was spent waiting for service. At least they gave us the hush puppies for free, since they couldn't be bothered to bring them until they brought our entrees. That fact is the only thing that raises it from one start to two. We will most likely never go back - though the food was delicious and we would love to eat it again, the annoying lack of service basically makes the place very un-appetizing.

Laid-back atmosphere, delicious southern food, and good beer. Their mac 'n cheese night (Thursdays) is awesome-the cajun mac is my favorite! Good service-casual but efficient. Can't wait to get back there for another meal!

I agree with Lizzy B. below- DRINK the Farmer's Daughter! Iffin that don't do it for ya, eat pretty much anything on the menu. I was, however, a tad disappointed in the sweet potato fries. I was expecting them to be crispy and they were soft, but still delish... The fried chicken is made from giant mutant chickens so bring a large appetite and/ or a desire for leftovers!

this place is such a gem.. the atmosphere alone is so lovely.. only thing i want to say is it was noticeable last year or so when they changed their menu prices.. taking out the corn bread and side with the jambalaya was disappointing. it seemed obvious to me they had someone who came in and told them how to cut costs.. but even still i go there.. for it is fun and festive and mostly still as good..

first off let me just say that I have yet to actually eat here and that the one star I'm giving is for service. We just left the delta (hungry & irritated) after sitting there w/out service for 20 mins, at which point the bartender (we sat @bar) asked us if we'd been waited on yet. He was surprised when we said no yet we were sitting there with anxious looks of anticipation & without any beverages before us. And dude!!! We were @ yr bar- at the very least a hello, or "have you been helped?" would've been nice. Needless to say after all the waiting, he finally came over to take our order only to let us know that they were out of 4 out of 5 of the items we wanted. On top of that, he admitted that he"d heard us "working out what we wanted from the menu"....um, but for some reason allowed us to wait for minutes on end before coming over and then letting us know that they were out of just about everything?! Infuriating. I know it was a groupon night, but still... no excuse for the lack of acknowledgment/awareness when it comes to your customers. **UPDATE** Since we have a damn groupon I figured we should go back and give them another chance last night (just a couple days after my initial review). This time around they did have mostly everything on the menu, and we didn't have to wait AS long. We still had to wait awhile before getting even so much as a hello from the bartender...the same bartender we had the first time around. In fact, my boyfriend was the one to greet him. Honestly the guy just seems ill-equipped for the job. It was a packed restaurant but not crazy busy and after the last time around and us getting up and walking out, he should've noticed us and made sure we got some decent service this time. 'Twas sadly not the case, but I must say, he did make a mean drink (the Russian Princess). The food was pretty blah too. I ate it because it was there, but I wouldn't go back for it again. In fact the longer it sat in my stomach, the more I wished I hadn't eaten it. There are far better places to go spend your calories. But hey, if you're looking to have some yummy drinks in a nice atmosphere, are in the area, and don't mind waiting to be served, then maybe you want to check it out. The food is not the attraction...go to Cannon's over on Killingsworth if you're looking for good BBQ, or EAT in the same plaza as Miss Delta if you want some fried okra, oysters or Louisiana-style food.

I love it here! The vibe is great, and the food is amazing. My favorite is the caesar salad (the best I've ever had) and the black eyed pea fritters appetizer. The sauce that goes with it is perfection. My boyfriend loves the shrimp po'boy. I've never really like southern food before I ate here. The drink list isn't my favorite in town, so I always stick to a nice 40 of PBR. Love it!

For some reason Southern joints in Portland are very good. Miss Delta is no exception. Food is done just right. Wifey had dirty mac and cheese (they should call it heart attack on a plate). It was as delicious as my chicken fried chicken. Oh yeah... bring Lipitor, because you will need it after you eat all that fat :-)

Bloody Mary was a veritable garden of delights, featuring more vegetables than are available in salads at some restaurants. Brunch was served quickly and was reasonably good. Nothing world-rocking, but if you're tired of waiting around in lines for Portland brunch, you can avoid that here.

Here's the deal--while all of the hipsters are huddled in the rain outside Gravy, I'm snug as a bug in a rug at Miss Delta. There's never a wait for breakfast. And there's no reason why Miss Delta can't be just as hip as Gravy--it's got cute decor, tattooed waitstaff, good coffee--and here's the catch--I think the food might be better than Gravy's. Any variation on a biscuit sandwich is a great choice, and I love their praline bacon. The French toast is awfully good, too. It makes me happy that I can have the place nearly to myself, since those hipsters aren't smart enough to come out of the rain.

Very sedate, calm interior with soothing wood grain and plain brick and mortar round out the vibe. We found the wait staff equally mellow and if you're not expecting customer service slammed down your throat like Red Robin, Miss Delta is a winner. One thing you certainly won't find at the aforementioned chain is the incredible Southern food from the Delta. Holy sweet potato fries, yelp fans, Miss Delta has honed her craft. Now I haven't eaten at The Delta Cafe, but word on the street is that the ambience at MD is much more soothing to the soul. You can still get 40's of PBR on ICE, and better yet, you can order Ninaski Oregon brew right off the tap. As someone who can't claim the rights to Southern food in their blood I'll just tell you what I like: The Fried Chicken and Gumbo are the champions of the entrees. Some of the best in the city, with heaping portions that should satisfy anyone. The Gumbo is a steal at $10 bucks with a deep dark roux that draws all the flavors together. The sides are all tasty with perfect Mac and Cheese, small Ceasars, Greens, and very respectable mashed potatoes. The Mac and Cheese for starters is the personification of this classic side dish. It's not italian mac and cheese, but rather the perfect represenation of that mac and cheese everyone is striving to create adjacent to their barbecue dishes. The fried chicken tractor beam is what pulled us into the Delta on this mild summer day. It didn't dissapoint, delivered with a breast and a leg it must've been 2 pounds of herb seasoned crispy chicken. The chicken was equally moist and if you looked up fried chicken on wikipedia you'd probably discover a picture of Miss Delta's fried chicken. My wife cultivating her child hood spirit oooed and awwed over this Chicken. Personally for myself I prefer the chicken at the screen door. I loved the dark meat at Miss Delta, and it was perfect fried chicken. The Screen Door goes a step further where you can taste the spices and herbs in every single bite. The batter at SD is also a lot softer, so really it's a false comparison. They're both great, it just depends on what type of great you want in your day. Kind of like Ken's Artisan vs. Apizza Scholls, you win either way. We'll be back, and next time I'll try my best to try some barbecue and some catfish. That is, if the Fried Chicken death star doesn't bend me once again to it's tasty will.

There seems to be a weird vibe going around Portland lately...or should I say lately the vibe is a little weirder then what is normally exuded by this eclectic city's fine citizenry? Maybe it is due to the recent winter weather that completely crippled the town, creating shut-ins out of a large portion of the population. Maybe it's the hang over from the long and arduous holiday season. I'm really not sure the exact cause, but whatever the reason, this odd aura was firmly on display last Saturday night at Miss Delta. When we initially arrived for dinner, we happened to get there about 10 minutes before they actually opened. We don't normally dine during the blue hour (definition: the pre 5 PM dinner time slot old folks are so fond of), but since we had a show to attend later that evening, and were already in the neighborhood, we thought we would get an early start. As the door to Miss Delta was unlocked, we assumed this was Southern hospitality's way of saying "Come on in". It wasn't. Instead of a warm smile offering us a seat at the bar for a drink, or being given the opportunity to sit down and take an early look at the menu, or even allowing us to quietly wait inside out of the rain for a table, the adolescent looking host informed us that they were indeed still closed and we needed to come back once they were open. Granted, we were early, and I had no problem coming back when they officially opened their doors, but it was the overall snarkiness and 'tude from this wanna be David Spade boy toy hipster that set me off. When we did return, the TLB was quick to key in on a very odd sexual tension between said pubescent host (who was sporting a cold sore above his lip so large it legally should have been on the company's payroll) and one of the waitresses who apparently had nothing better to do then flirt. This was a definite appetite turn off, as watching the juvenile mating dance of the unconcerned and contagious is not what I call good food foreplay. The evening continued to run its strange course when we noticed that heading up the kitchen that evening was what appeared to be a Simon Rex (Dirt Nasty) look-a-like, complete with a large gold donkey chain, wife beater and oversized sun glasses. I kid you not. Our waitress that evening happened to be polite, was prompt and cute in a non threatening Bonnie Hunt kind of way. Yet as with everyone who was working this evening, she also had a peculiar sexually charged vibe going as she displayed a more then professional interest with a singular guest, whom was dining alone in situational seclusion that evening. Well, he must have been feeling his mojo too, for when he wasn't chatting up our waitress, he somehow found the time to throw a couple lame pick up lines at the TLB as she sauntered over to the ladies room. This amazing collection of oddities and strange primal vibes prompted me to call our close friend (my Sister from Another Mister) who adores Miss Delta and has frequently recommended it to us. After relating our amazement at the strange sensual weirdness afoot at her favorite restaurant, the first question she asked was, "What are you on?" Oh, Shananay, while I may be the arbiter of debauchery, and the first to imbibe, my head was securely in place that night. Maybe if I was on something...it would have helped to make sense out of it all. Yet amazingly, despite the staff that seemed to be on the verge of breaking out into some dirty restaurant worker orgy (I was waiting for Ron Jeremy to show up as the bus boy), I have to say that the food was fuc'ing fantastic (even if the staff wasn't...fantastic that is). The fried chicken was on par if not better then what you can find at Bernie's, which has been a favorite of mine forever, with a perfect crispy outside protecting the tender juicy meat on the inside. The mashed potatoes and red beans & rice were tasty and satisfying side dishes that left nothing to want. Flavorful southern food, with just enough grease to please, and Ninkasi Double IPA on tap...does it get any better then that? Hunter S. Thompson once said that when the going get weird the weird turn pro...well this time the weird all decided to turn professional at the same time and turn in their resumes together to work as the staff at Miss Delta. As one known to be a little twisted himself, this strange evening will certainly not prevent me from returning, heck it might have even encouraged a return trip. And while I do love me some good fried chicken, I am curious as to when Southern Food became such an aphrodisiac? So the next time you're craving some good southern food...remember it's Miss Delta, if you're nasty.

Everything I've had here has been delicious, especially the meatloaf. Service is good, and the atmosphere is appropriate. In my experience, the specials are usually really good. Cocktails are okay; definitely not the best in town by any means, but the bartenders are eager to please and helpful. I really enjoy coming here.

Miss Delta is a great place for a date. It's usually pretty packed, but we always luck out and get a table pretty quick, or there's room at the bar to grab a drink and wait. The wait staff is always super friendly and fun. The ambiance - vintage light fixtures, brick walls, old photos you may also find in your grandparents hallway, mixed with the spunkyness of Mississippi Ave. I lived in the South for most of my life - I've had a ton of southern food. I can honestly say - Miss Delta does a great job of complimenting those flavors. There are vegetarian and vegan options, they also offer dishes that are naturally gluten-free. That said - all the veg haters can hush it because the flavors are outstanding no matter what you order. Yes, some of the dishes are very comfort-hearty and don't air on the healthy side, but they also don't leave you feeling like you'll have a clogged artery by the time you finish your meal. Sunday brunches are also extremely amazing. Biscuits and gravy are delish, the grits are a bit different (where I come from, they mimic the consistency of oatmeal - not muffins), but are still very good. Overall: this place is on my list of top places to eat in Portland. It's unfortunate if you haven't been - you are definitely missing out.

Had brunch last weekend. First visit after being recommended. Food was great! Chicken and waffle was perfect, biscuits and gravy were good (prefer Pine States gravy, but Miss Delta's biscuit was perfect. French Toast was good too! Family and I will be back again!

Had a semi-decent meal at Miss Delta in late summer - the food was OK and that they let me have my dog tied up at the table was great. They even brought him doggie treats. Decided to try it again when owed a friend who helped me move and two others who had let me crash at their house dinner. Miss Delta was close, there was no wait and my friend from CA was intrigued that they serve 40s of PBR at the table. So after the aforementioned PBR and some sippin whisky, we ordered the captain's platter for the table. My food poisoning radar should've been going off at the name of a dish that sounds like it should be at Long John Silver's. Everything was fried, natch: oysters were ok, shrimp were so slimy they couldn't keep their fried little jackets on and the catfish..oh god, I think it was the catfish that did us in. My great uncle AJ used to take us catfishing in OK and believe me, this is not what they are supposed to smell or taste like. Main courses included fried chicken, which I thought looked suspiciously like Shake n' Bake. C'mon peeps, REAL friend chicken is pan-fried, not deep fried and there ain't no two ways about that one, son. Ribs were tender but drowning in sauce, mac n'cheese was mediocre at best, collard greens had none of that long cooked-porky taste. Shrimp jambalaya was passable and overpriced Service was beyond scatterbrained. Best part of the night was going home and sipping Fernet and eating Costco baklava

Like a bitchy waitress? This is your place. They convinced me that even though they don't take reservations they'd have a table and I should come in for my birthday with 8 people. Upon arrival waitress snottily yells at me they didn't have a table because I was 10 minutes late. She wasn't interested in solutions only justifying her bullshit. So I left. Lots of places to eat in Portland that don't come with a heaping serving of attitude.

What a great place! We'd walked in before and had a drink, but never stayed for the food. Well, the recent vibe was great and it turns out new owners took over 6 mos ago and are really doing a super job. warm space but most importantly, awesome food and great happy hr choices! More creole style (tomato base) than cajun but the jambalaya was moist and good, the mac & Cheese super large with tons of meat, and the fried shrimp poboy is the closest thing to a real NOLA poboy we've found in PDX yet. Also don't forget to order the 40oz PBR if you have time!!

Loves it! Really really really good mac n' cheese (subtract 1 point = the Bacon Apple Blue Cheese mac was "not" offererd on the lunch menu) but fantastic smoked chicken and pesto w/diced little onions (see photo). Also ordered the "friend green tomatoes (Subtract 1 point = Tomatoes sliced "waaaaaay" too thin-i've eaten rice paper thats been thicker than what they did to it; they used flour based batter instead of a drier crunchier corn meal batter; spoozed this "red sauce" all over the top to help the batter get even soggier instead of coming "on the side" like the other 45 items they serve (see photo). Too bad Leona Helmsley works there - what a "treat" she was-so friendly!! Anyway - can't WAIT to go back - every Thursday they have specials on the Mac n' Cheese. I'd talk more about what we had but now im upset all over again about the sad state of affairs of those poor soggy fried green tomatoes - I hope thats not what i'll get when I order the "Pan Fried Oysters" next time - ACK!

Visited this joint for the first time while Xmas shopping in the neighborhood and really enjoyed it. The building itself was cozy and casual, and the service was outstanding. We had two servers let us know to hold off on ordering our drinks and food for a few minutes so that we could catch the start of happy hour. Our server, herself, was really friendly and easy-going. I went with the friend chicken & waffles special and loved it. The friend chicken batter was unique and damnt tasty. I can't quite put my finger on it, but there was a little something special there. The waffle was great and the whole weird ensemble was truly satisfying. My girlfriend had the happy hour southern sampler plate (my name for it - not sure what it was officially called) and THAT was just as good. The collared greens stood out to me, but the mac n' cheese was legit as well...oh and can't leave out the cornbread. There was a good array of draft and bottled beer and super reasonable prices, plus a lot of specialty cocktails - all discounted nicely during happy hour. Miss Delta's was perfect on a blustery Dec. afternoon and I imagine hits the spot most other times of year too.

Third time around. The second was for cocktails in the late Sunday afternoon. which were very tasty. I'm not sure why we keep going back on a Tuesday, but we do. This time we didn't get the boil which I slightly regret. We ordered blackened catfish and the dark meat fried chicken. sides- red beans and rice, mac'n'cheese, mashed potatoes w/chicken gravy, field greens with vinaigrette. drinks - ninkasi ipa and the miss delta. ninkasi ipa well, it's a great beer and everything a ipa should be, the miss delta i think is my favorite drink, the orange blossom water blooms in your warm mouth, it's crisp and light and a great starter. it's my favorite i think. to the food. The catfish was well seasoned and cooked well. The field greens were delicious, nice and tangy apple cider vinegar. The red beans and rice were super smoky and creamy, we're hot sauce lovers so we did add copious amounts which added another layer. The fried chicken - comparatively I still think country cat is my favorite, nothing has beat that so far. that being said, this was incredibly good, with large visible oregano leaves in the perfectly dark fried chicken. it was moist and flavorful highly recommended, I think i win in dinner choice that night. The mash potatoes and chicken gravy light and fluffy but overwhelmingly pepper heavy, lots of rosemary, it was good but didn't fulfill my craving for that homey comfort dish. The mac'n'cheese although it was nice it was side dish option, i just didn't dig it as much, it was just kind of there, better than average but really just shrug. The service gets overwhelmed but is friendly and picks up as the meal goes along. this is a dependable spot for a decently priced home cooked style meal. next I'll try the brunch.

PIGGED OUT! Oy I am full.. Decor is funky and fun. Music up a tad bit loud so it's sometimes hard to hear each other though you could hear others as they were having to speak loudly. The waitstaff very friendly and prompt. We ordered the fried okra and I figure there were about 3 cups of okra in the bowl at least. They have a dipping sauce that was flavorful. Okra was hot and not greasy. My partner ordered the oyster po boy and I got Arlene's greatest shrimp and grits. HUGE orders and really decent prices. Arlene's dish had the smaller shrimps without the tails. The sauce did not seem to have spent a lot of time simmering so the flavors were not of any mouth popping flavor yet I could not stop eating just the same and it all tasted very fresh. The grits sit at the bottom like grit cakes which was fine. Ate it all, did I say that already? They were out of chardonnay so I went with my usual martini and she did indeed make it perfectly. We may give it another shot next time we are in that neck of the woods. Oh they have happy hour Mondays all day so the food is even cheaper still. And it was filling up for a Monday.

The Good: Happy hour with food! Entrees are around $6 while the appetizers are cheaper. Big portions! The Bad: Since it's small. there is limited seating. Also, there were only three beers on tap. Try: the grits. My table really enjoyed it. I liked the meatloaf mac: mac n cheese with bits of meat mixed in. Don't Try: the jambalaya. It's okay, but it wasn't as thick as I wanted it to be.

I figured it would be unnecessary to write a review for this place. I figured it would have unanimous five star reviews shooting cyber fireworks. It doesn't so I'm here to help get these reviews on track. :) I I've been here a few times and by golly you can't get a better deal than this for heart un-healthy food. They offer happy hour virtually the ENTIRE time they are open (weekday schedule) save a two hour window between 7 and 9pm. I'm on a european clock, so I don't even think about dinner until 10pm. Each item I have ordered has been ridiculous. My favorites are the Black eyed pea fritters and Meatloaf mac. I'm a mac and cheese fan. A big one. And apparently Portland is becoming a mac and cheese kinda place and this place is definitely high in the running for best (definitely against some favorites such as Montage). Staff have always been pleasant, the decor is great. I love me a "Day of the Dead"-esque diorama. And a tarot card reader adds to the appeal of this place...(which should never be compared the to Delta Cafe). It is it's own little deep-fried heaven... I love this place... I'm hungry....

My family originates from the South, specifically the food capital of Louisiana. Food is in my blood and there were a lot of things wrong with what they call "Southern Food"... to begin.. Southern Sampler (mine was black eyed peas w/ pork, red beans'n'rice w/pork and macaroni & cheese): Macaroni and cheese was fairly bland and as a side note the noodles were overcooked. When this happens the pasta becomes mushy and the cheese clumpy. Needed salt or other seasonings (garlic or pepper) The beans and rice were okay.. excepy again, the rice was way overcooked, almost resembling baby food. The rice we have back home is tender but not overly so, plus the bean tasted like they came from a can and had some prepacked jambalaya seasoning tossed in. The black eyed peas missed that chunky pork taste. The cornbread on the side was just... not okay. Too dense, slightly undercooked and missed some salt, very bland. I was served with a packet of honey, much like at KFC... no thanks. Next I tried the hush puppies and the fried okra. The okra was delicious, perfectly fried with a corn crust, nicely done... one of the only good things that I had on the menu. The hushpuppies would have been good if served with a jalapeno or spicy JELLY, not a warm cream sauce. Again the cornbread was too dense so when it fried it was thick in the mouth, not fluffy nor light like I'm used to down in Lousiana. The final fail was this scenario: Mama ordered some hot wings. The new line cook missed the ticket, thus they were late, and had no idea how to cook the wings. He battered them, fried them and then tossed them into the sauce. The result was a large pile of macerated wings that had this thick goo all over them. Disgusting. The waitress did apologize and didn't charge for them- but the taste lingered and was really rancid. The upside was our nice waitress and the sweet tea... but the food was not Southern cuisine, definitely not like Mama used to serve us. To the general public: come for the drinks, not for the food. The drinks are cheap and maybe you'd be safe with some of the friend items. My recommendation to Miss Delta is to take a road trip down South and spend some weeks in the kitchens of Mamas- because what you are serving is more like 'gentrified Pacific Northwest' Southern food... which is bland and below par.

Review of one single cocktail - but I ate with my eyes Cuz dat benedict looked damn good from over here. Dropped by during a rainy Sunday Funday - I had the ginger martini, could have a better thicker sugar rim on it but really, it's in a lovely dainty glass, it was filled to the rim and it was refreshing and delish. But that damn benedict I didn't have looked so damn good! OH and I love the decor, reminded me of this one cafe in Vancouver BC I went to some years ago. Will be back!

This is southern food the way my southern grandma makes it! I get the fried okra appetizer every time I visit Miss Delta since it's so hard to find that dish done properly any where else. True to southern cooking, their dark meat fried chicken sells out fast, so get there early if you want it. I've yet to have anything from their menu that I didn't love, and their staff provide true hospitality.

We got there during happy hour (which ends at 7pm) and ordered fried chicken wings, jambalaya and cheese grits for $6 each and the black eyed peas and corn fritters for $4. Cocktails were $1 off during HH so I had myself a mint julep. The bad thing was finally getting the food way after happy hour ended. For some reason the wait for the food took a really long time. We were seated immediately but the food just took a while. When it did arrive however, the eating was good. The fritters were my favorite, hands down. The mint julep was decent though I'd like it more if it were served with crushed ice in the metal cups.

Absolutely delicious home-style southern soul food cooking surrounded by some pretty funky decorations and a full bar. SIGN ME UP! I had a brunch here recently, and will definitely return. Their brunch menu has enough to satisfy the breakfast or lunch hungers depending on what you're in the mood for. The catfish po' boy and the biscuits and gravy were outstanding. Not to be missed is the basil mimosa. Going to be making these at home now, too! Minus one-star for a rather disorganized seating process, and the rather LONG wait that it causes when your server has to spend 20 minutes seating people instead of tending to customers.

An impromptu dinner for 10 was gladly accommodated with a couple days notice. Usually I cringe at trying to organize such a large group because service can really suffer. (I think, for the most part, service in PDX sucks anyway) I did want to share with a few newbies one of my favorite spots though, so I went on. At no point in the night did we have any issues at all with service for a larger group. No attitude, no problems when people weren't perfectly on time and no issues with a couple of the party just there for drinks. An 18% gratuity was added (and expected). The food was great as usual, with menu items as well as specials ordered. The bacon + praline beignets special as a starter instead of dessert = best choice ever. I had pork ribs, my GF had the etouffee special and both were good. Other members of our party had a steak salad "done perfectly" and meatloaf which also got good reviews. So...I recommend Miss Delta for anyone, solo or with a larger group, with confidence now.

Trying cajun food in Portland for a change. Very good food. Was here for dinner. Had the hush puppies and fried okra for appetizers. Really liked the okra. Had the veggie grits which were great too. The portions are huge so you may want to keep that in mind when you order.

This review is for the happy hour. Came here with a few friends for happy hour. Since it started at 5 and ended at 7 it was a good place to pick up some late HH. Too bad the food really sucked and the prices were kind of high for happy hour. The jambalaya tasted like it was made from a rice a roni box. The mac and cheese was bland and boring. The only thing good about this place was the 40oz PBR served on ice. Skip this place for HH, maybe the dinner menu is better (I highly doubt it though).

OMG. SO good. SO good. And once more, for good measure, SO good. Seriously though. I got the fried chicken and it was perfect. PERFECT. Light, crispy batter. Juicy, plentiful meat. I couldn't ask for anything more. And literally couldn't have consumed any more. I also got the black eyed peas which were super tasty. There could have been more peas, less rice in the bowl, but they were good. And honestly, I was so stuffed I didn't NEED more, I just wanted it. My other side was the mac and cheese. I am a bit of a mac and cheese snob and this was good, though not the best I've ever had. The waitress also gave me some free cornbread because it took so long for my food to come out, though I basically just inhaled it, so I can't speak to the taste. Based on the silence that overcame the table when we got our food I think the others also enjoyed their meals. Def would stop by here again.

There aren't a lot of restaurants selling southern-style comfort food where I come from, so I was excited to try this place. It was busy and we waited a while for a table, but it was well worth it. I loved the fried okra and hush puppies. The collard greens and mac n cheese that came with my steak were also delicious.

I ordered the steak rare and he ordered the fried chicken. Well. My steak was beyond rare and I actually sent it back, never have I ever done that. it was literally lightly seared on both sides. He ordered his chicken fried. It too came rare. He was too nice to say anything. I was refunded for half the cost of the steak and the service was good. Maybe they just need better lighting in the kitchen. I also didn't like the sauce they had put on the steak, it seemed like an experiment gone wrong.

After my second visit here, I now know that want to marry Miss Delta. We would have a beautiful courtship where I would gain 40 pounds from all of the wonderful southern food she feeds me, and then Tom Arnold could narrate our big redneck wedding on CMT. I brought an actual southern boy with me on this visit and he gave it the authentic seal of approval. I also discovered my new favorite drink: The Farmer's Daugher. Cucumber-infused vodka, sour mix and a splash of cranberry. It's basically a cucumber-fresh lemonade. Yum!

So, I have eaten at this restaurant at least 10 times since moving into the Mississippi neighborhood. The majority of the time, I am not let down. Sometimes... well. Miss Delta does a decent job representing Southern comfort food in heart of their tiny kitchen, but spice is slightly lacking. While you can choose between gumbo and jambalaya, both are pretty mild as far as kick is concerned. There is a decent amount of meat in both dishes, though, and you get a yummy little cornbread muffin to soak up your gumbo with. Portions are large enough to split if you buy an appetizer. Cheese grits are awesome, smothered in a vegetarian creole sauce. You can also add meat for extra $$. The meatloaf changes daily. My boyfriend is almost always a fan. There was a caramelized garlic meatloaf though that OVERLOADED with garlic. I love garlic, though. I ate it for him. The blackened catfish, fried chicken, and chicken fried steak are all worthy of what they represent. The portion on the chicken fried steak is definitely quite a bit bigger than the catfish, though. Skip the po boys. Appetizers are what I come here for, though. I know, judging from my profile, you can see I have a weakness for sweet potato fries (which are plentiful on Mississippi Street). Last summer, the fries were always crispy. As of late, they have still been plentiful (and come with applesauce for dippin') but on the sad and soggy side. I've usually resorted to coming in for fries on Mondays when Mississippi Station is closed. The fried okra, however, is AMAZING. Crispy, golden little nuggets of slightly greasy goodness. The hushpuppies are alright, but you don't get near the bang for your buck as you do with the similarly priced okra. The sides have all been successes in my book. The collared greens are yummy, never overcooked. The drinks are decent. I am a whiskey girl, but I am unimpressed with the Hot Toddy I finally tried on my last visit. The bloody mary and spiked cider are both tasty, winter drinks.

really not impressed. the fried okra was the only thing good about our meal. i was too optimistic after reading the other reviews. i lived in new orleans for a year and half. i wasn't expecting anything on that par, but i was hopeful for something more than what we got.

This review is based only on happy hour experiences, though I really want to go back during dinner hours to try the fried chicken! The Farmers Daughter drink is reason enough to go to Miss Delta. It is light, refreshing and delicious. Their happy hour food menu is pretty good as well. The hushpuppies were really yummy and the sweet potato fries were unlike any I have had at a restaurant. They were more like sweet potato spears with the skin still on them and either baked or fried just a bit and then served with apple sauce. They felt healthier than normal fries, though I may be just telling myself this. Overall a fun happy hour spot on Mississippi.

We have been here 3 times since December and probably won't be going back. Our last visit was May 18th and as we found out when we get there is the menu has been drastically pared down. Gone is my favorite item, the chicken fried steak. I even checked the menu online before we went, though 3 weeks have passed and the menu online is the old menu and hasn't been updated to relect the current offerings. I want to add that we have had the fried oysters all 3 times and the first 2 times they were wonderful and the last time they were horribly done, under-cooked and the breading was falling off, nothing like the first 2 visits. We never really had an issue with the service. It might be a little slow as it was our first 2 visits, but I personally don't mind as long as the food is good! I guess it is time to try Delta Cafe which is a little more of a drive for us.

Atmosphere is great... Service was friendly & good. Highlights: Jalapeno hush puppies & ribs & cucumber infused vodka cran. Only thing they need to work on is giving you a blanket and couch when you're done eating to nap it off.

I wish I could give 3.5 starts but not possible. The reason being is last time I went in definitely a 3, but the previous times were 4-5 stars. I guess we picked the wrong night. It turns out there was a 20 top reservation in the back, the rest of restaurant was full with a total of 2 servers running the show. For 2 servers, they did a remarkable job getting to everyone and always with a smile. We ordered the gumbo and the jambalaya. The jambalaya was pretty good (I would have added a few more spices to make it less bland). And the bill took a little while to get to us. However, I've been to Miss Delta several times over the year and I can say it's top notch and maybe the last time I went was an anomaly.

stopped in miss delta last saturday while on a mississippi ave bar crawl I created to take my mind off the pain of having 30+ inches of snow on the mountain, but the wind forcing them to close :-( Super nice staff.. young and hot bartender.. ( hey.. we have five senses right? attractive and friendly waitstaff makes my food taste better ) The apps were awesome.. and our beers were cold and beery, as they should be. The only downer was the fried okra.. it was cooked perfectly, lightly breaded in cornmeal and deep fried quickly, crunchy and fried without any oily-ness. The only downer was that they served it dry.. I asked for sauce and was given a choice of thousand island or tarter sauce... Seriously? The owner was standing there and I told her that I loved them, but that a garlic aoli or something similar would make them truly awesome.. she commented that they don't use garlic aoli for anything else, and prob wouldn't make it. Oh well.. can't win them all.

Somehow I happen to be craving some jambalaya when we happen to come across Miss Delta, and voila, they specialize in southern cooking!!! Aside from satisfying my cravings for jambalaya, they also offered a great variety of other southern comforts during their happy hour, so we ordered the poboy sandwich with fried oysters and a side dish of fried okra. One thing I've come to learn about the northwest is that they have bigger portions, so even their happy hour portions seem like regular entrees to me. I didn't get any of their drinks, but they had this spiked honey tea drink that sounded amazing!!!

So, wow, went to Miss Delta yesterday after asking the gang at Mississippi Records where to go for happy hour... the restaurant is beautiful with a really wonderful use of the space. Our bartender was friendly, prompt and even though she knew we were just there for the cheap eats and a drink, treated us like royalty. So a nice Ninkasi IPA for $3 and a perfect Gin Rickey for $5 and we were happy. Then the $6 side sampler came... we were expecting the food to be tasty but we weren't expecting three giant portions. We chose the mac and cheese, the mashers and gravy and the greens. All three were so well prepared that I'd say each and everyone of the dishes were nearing perfection! Plus, it came with a surprise corn bread muffin. We walked out full, happy all for $14! Plus, they had our locals, the Decemberists, playing nicely in the background. I'm going back for a Po' Boy and more sides!

Ooo, this place does a damn fine brunch. Tasty drinks and very filling-without-being-heart-stopping food. I had the chicken-fried steak, which was very good (the gravy was awesome and the steak was not over-cooked) and my companion had the Chicken and Waffles, which sounded weird but works really well. I was also surprised that, despite everyone being packed in tightly into the small space, that this place was not overly loud. Being able to talk with the people you're with without shouting is always a nice bonus on Sunday mornings:)

I need to expand my Southern food palette -- I had no idea Gumbo could be so good! Every chunk I picked out of the awesome stock was basically all kinds of food I like: shrimp, sausage and chicken. I think I really picked the exact dish that would've made me happy this evening. Give it a try! The food was so heavy (what? Southern food heavy?) and I didn't get a chance to try the corn meal muffins -- they're waiting for me in the fridge. I did get a chance to try their version of sweet potato fries: real sweet potatoes (not yams) deep fried, skin-on and without batter. I appreciated the different style, but it was pretty "eh." The accompanying side of apple sauce somewhat recovered the dish. I'd come here again, especially since the prices were incredibly reasonable. It's one of the better Southern restaurants in town. The service was adequate and I should note that they box your meal up for you (hey, they don't do it everywhere). Try the gumbo!

Had the Yam Fries for ap which were tasty, oyster poboy was spot on as was the slaw on the side, the red beans and rice my friend had were excellent great rue underneath that dish, his pulled pork plate portion was generous and not over sauced with the smokey porky goodness spot on - a bad pulled pork is always covered up with sauce and that was not the case here. Drinks had a very well made old fashioned and a PBR tallboy. Service they were busy but did not feel neglected. Great NOLA like ambience and experience.

Rolled in at 9pm-there were a few people waiting outside so me and my companion seated ourselves at the bar. We patiently waited longer than was necessary to get served drinks. I wish I could write that the experience got better but it did not. We paid for our drinks at the bar and were eventually showed to a table. We waited a very long time to put in our order for our food. The black-eye pea and corn fritters were the highlight of our experience. My companion had the catfish po' boy while I had the fried shrimp. Both were okay although the catfish po' boy was a little soggy. The shrimp in my po' boy were tiny but plentiful. After finishing our meal, we waited for what seemed like eternity. Finally I pulled out my credit card to indicate I was ready to pay and go. A random server picked up my credit card and disappeared behind the bar. Ten minutes later my credit card slip was delivered with the incorrect amount. The story of poor service continued.... I wouldn't recommend this place. Go to Montage. If you can't get into Montage then go to the Delta, or EAT. Or just back home and save your money.

I've been excited to try this southern gem in the heart of Portland, so I got some girlfriends together for a happy hour date. The first drink I had was called Lucky # 7 and it's some sort of tea, whiskey and lemonade concoction that is magical. I was skeptical, but it turned out to be lovely! The place was packed for happy hour, but unfortunately they only had one guy on the floor and what seemed like one guy cooking. It didn't seem to be too much of a problem until they lost our order of black eyed pea fritters and sweet potato fries. Our server kept trying to get them to refire our food, but somehow it just didn't happen; however, I can't really blame our server because he was working his butt off. They should really have more people on the floor because I've heard from other people that service can be a problem here. But the food we did get was great! The fried okra came quickly and was perfectly fried. Being from the south, I've struggled to find a good place that doesn't have slimy fried okra and this is definitely it. The hush puppies were okay, but a little dry. I prefer the ones at Montage. Overall, I think I will go back to try my black eyed pea fritters and potentially even more. I'm giving it 3 stars for now, but I'm sure I will increase it to 4 if my next visit goes as planned.

Went here last night because por que no? was closed due to a kitchen fire. All I have to really say about this place is: It was packed, drinks were good, so was most of the food, but there was a huge hunk of Pork in our supposed to be Vegan collard greens. Normally something like this wouldn't bother me THAT much in a place that is trying to accommodate a person (when the menu is obviously far from vegan) , but the fact the menu specifically says items are "vegan" several times, I think they could do a little better job keeping meat out of my greens.

Breakfast is absolutely delicious. In a town that's become very foodie, it doesn't get better than Miss Delta. Great for groups or even by yourself. Delicious dishes, including the Southern Stack and French Toast. Can't go wrong with a bloody mary too. This place is not to be missed!

Ooohhh...Miss Delta. You are the answer to my homesick southern prayers. Not only are you oh so delicious, you even gave me nostalgic moments from my Georgian roots with every bite of your skillet cooked goodness . My (also southern) lady friend and I decided to eat at this place after hearing all the fuss about it. I guess I can see what it was all about. The place is cute in a stereotypical southern indie way. The stereo was blasting Tom Waits (thumbs up) and Jenny Lewis (good but kind of tired) as people were seated eating there healthy helpings of grits, collards , and sipping drinks dressed in mason jars. We luckily ordered the black eyed pea fritters, which to our amazement was like lightly fried crack. Then we followed those puppies up with a plate of sides. Everything was great, no complaints. The collards were just right, the mac and cheese was velvety and delectable, the red beans and rice were perfectly seasoned....should I continue? Ummm me thinks not ... I will just let y'all judge for yourselves.

This place feels like a dive bar but with southern food and better decor. The service is very slow or just not attentive. The vegetarian gumbo is just alright, I wouldn't say its the best I've ever had. My friend said their Mac and Cheese is the best in town, I disagree, I think Screendoor is way better. Also, the platter (3 sides of your choice) $9.50 is quite small compare to say Screendoor's $13.50 platter which is twice as large and more sides to pick from. The fried catfish are pretty good. The collard greens are a bit too vinegar and sweet for me. It tasted over cooked. Though I heard the drinks are better here. The food is good but I wouldn't say its the best deal in town.

My first time at Delta was ok. My server was absolutely great! We ordered a lemon drop that wasn't up to our standards and she made another that was great. As far as the food. I ordered the ribs and my girlfriend ordered the fried chicken. They were out of ribs so we both just ate the chicken. The chicken was good, but couldn't used a kick in flavor department. The Ceazer Salad and Black Eyed Peas were great!!! I can't wait to go back and try the ribs.

I had the most wonderful, friendly waitress ever and the food was amazing. The atmosphere is really laid back and my mimosa with Sunday brunch was great too. What more can you ask for from a restaurant? I love Portland because there are places like this at which I'm not expected to have a ton of money in order to receive great service and delicious food, just to be a decent customer (which I always am unless given obvious reason not to be). Both facets were well above my expectations here. I'll admit this is only based on one experience, and the only downside is their hours because I've been wanting to go again!

I ate here about a year ago, before I had a Yelp account, but the experience was so incredibly memorable I felt the need to post a review after the fact. I REALLY WANTED TO LIKE THIS PLACE. I'd had a long hard day. I cruised Yelp for places with great reviews and settled on Miss Delta. I was so ready for some delicious Southern comfort. After a long wait outside, then at the bar, we were seated in a corner. We'd already perused the menu, so we were ready to order food, but our waitress had yet to come by. We sipped our beers and waited. Ten minutes passed. We waited. A large party was seated right next to us (practically at the same table). We tried to get the hostess's attention, unsuccessfully. We waited. Twenty minutes. I was getting hungry. My fiance finally got up and asked if we'd be able to order soon. Someone came over. No apology. We ordered and we waited. We watched the large party next to us order. We waited. We finished our beers and our water and our empty glasses sat there, neglected. Another 30 minutes and more unsuccessful attempts to flag someone down, finally an assurance that we "hadn't been forgotten", another beer order. The beers never came, but the next table's food did. My fiance got up to remind the waitress of our beers and our food order. She assured him that everything was totally normal. FINALLY, after over an hour of waiting, NOT counting the time we spent outside and at the bar waiting for a table (by this time, the restaurant had nearly emptied out and the large party was finishing up) our food arrived. I was near tears, out of sheer frustration and hunger. We dug into the food like we hadn't eaten days...and my fiance's food was perfect. My food? Was completely COLD. I am unashamed to say that I left a REALLY bad tip.

Having been raised in Mississippi, I know a thing or two about true Southern food. From New Orleans to Pensacola, I've had it all. I've actually been here a few times - even to the Delta on Woodstock back in the day. I went the other night and felt it was finally time to write some stuff. As per usual, there was a bit of a wait upon our arrival - there's not much room to stand so be prepared for that. The service is a bit slow which can be a bit unnerving when you're standing by the door but once you're seated, is not that bad. We grabbed a few drinks from the bar during our wait which always alleviates things. Not much on tap for beer but decent bottle selection and a fantastic selection of mixed drinks (and very reasonably priced). We were sat and pretty much already knew what to order. The meatloaf of the day sounded too good to pass up (feta, red peppers, bacon) served w/ mashed potatoes and my choice of two sides! Score. My little one ordered some gumbo and nearly ate up all the hush puppies once they arrived. I was definitely into the remoulade / tartar sauce that came with. Their cornbread is great. The meatloaf was fantastic. My drinks were superb. The gumbo...was ok. There's no standard on gumbo - so long as you get the roux right, you can be a little creative. I've seen gumbo thick and brown (much like theirs) to clear and runny like soup. I will say that the gumbo came appropriately filled with meats and for $10 was a bargain considering how heavy it is. I don't go here much - maybe three times a year - I will say their fried chicken is amazing. I like their fried catfish, too. I just like this place and I'm happy it's in my neighborhood.

I was in a bind to come up with a restaurant for date night and since the BF loves southern food I thought of the Miss Delta. I love Delta Cafe and I will admit that's what i was hoping for. I must say the waitress was a blast and even the cooks were joking with us. Miss Delta felt like the younger sister that tries so hard to be just like the older sibling but not quite getting there. I will say the mojito's were fantastic and the BF's drink was good too (just not my taste) and he really enjoyed the fried catfish. Although he said it was far from the best he's ever had. My catfish caesar was next to inedible though. the salad might as well been from a bag and it was swimming in dressing. I am a fan of a little goes a long way and caesar dressing is strong to begin with. There was WAY too much on there. The catfish was bland and tasteless, it looked like there should have been seasoning, but i couldn't taste it over the dressing. I will probably be back to try it again, its a good possibility i simply got a dish i didn't like. I am going to try some other places around the city first though.

A few months ago Krystal and I were at Safeway buying beer where we happened across a 40 of PBR. Krystal was about to take a picture of it and send it to her brother, Brian, because she thought that it was the funniest thing she had seen. I asked her if she had ever seen the 40s in buckets at the Delta and she hadn't. She vowed that when Brian moved here we would take him to the Delta to share a 40. Well, last night that day finally happened. Krystal and Collin bought a place in N. Portland at the beginning of the year so it can be hard to get them out to my hood but, luckily, Miss Delta exists and we could all win. We, of course, started with the infamous 40 which only costs $4! Really, how could you go wrong with a $4 beer that can feed (?) 3 (Krystal had a Bloody Mary which we rated a strong 8.5). You'd think that being a vegetarian would hinder a night out at a Southern restaurant. You'd think that until you see the sides menu! $9.50 for three sides. Holy crap! Well, obviously all things potato were out but then I had the inner fight of cheese v no cheese. Cheese won and I ended up getting vegan collard greens, vegan red beans and rice, and mac n cheese. I, also, couldn't resist a side of fried okra as well. No one else was into the okra as much as I was but that just meant more for me! I was quite surprised when I found a corn bread muffin on the side of my plate. No one else got a muffin. Was the waitress trying to tell me something? After a good 20 minutes of trying to consume my dinner, my tooth won the battle and I had to stop chewing. I popped a handful of Tylenol as the waitress took my meal away and brought it back in a container with individual places for all of my side (told you she loved me). The empty container is now sitting next to me and my acupuncturist never needs to know about my cheese consumption.

I went to the Miss Delta with a group of 5 for a birthday celebration. I ordered the fried chicken which was delicious but my daughter ordered the Jambalaya which was not. The rice in the Jambalaya was not completely cooked and when I mentioned it (very nicely I might add) to the waitress she took the dish and returned to tell me in an extremely rude tone that she tasted it herself and it was not undercooked. It was SOOOOO undercooked! not a big deal to occasionally get a less than perfect dish at a good restaurant, but I will never eat there again due to the rude way she spoke to me. Decent but not great food, bad service.

I'm from Alabama, therefore I think it's my mission in life to "test" every so called "southern" joint in Portland. So far I have not been disappointed. Miss Delta is one of my favorite places to go and pretend I'm buckled into the bible belt again for 45 mins or so. Then I promptly run like hell... because I remember I am scared of belts and bibles. The best part about Delta's for me is the fried okra. It is extremely hard to find okra in Portland, and even harder to find okra cooked "right." Miss Delta cooks her okra just like my Grandma does, and that's just perfect for me. The jambalaya, and mac & cheese are delicious! I am also a fan of the gumbo! The drinks are southern size, and affordable. I recommend Miss Delta to all of my friends, even the yankees.

Num num num num. I've got a little crush on this place. How else did I end up spending 3 1/2 hours here the other night? I walked in at 7:30pm on a Saturday, and after reading some of the reviews on here, was prepared for a long wait. I was okay with that, but my belly was a little grumpy at the prospect. Not the case, my friend, not the case. Was guided to a table, had water before my guest showed up, and both servers who worked the room seemed remarkably attentive. Ordered drinks and food, and *gasp*! The food was out before the drinks were. It took literally about three minutes. Sheesh. Any place that delivers fresh hot vegetarian food to my belly in that span of time is definitely a little swoon-worthy. 2 of us shared the trio of sides--we chose black-eyed peas, collard greens, and mac and cheese. The mac and cheese was bland, but the peas and greens were killer. I'd try the seasonal veggies next time, for sure. The atmosphere was welcoming and cozy, the aforementioned food was aforementioned fast, and the cocktails all looked innovative and tasty, though I had a beer. Nom nom nom nom nom.

Pretty good food if you are in the mood for Southern, homestyle food. The macaroni and cheese, mashers, and red beans and rice are delicious. And they offer a meal where you can pick three sides and it comes with corn bread...how can you go wrong!? The po boy sandwiches are good as well, especially the bbq tofu. The fried catfish was not the best, but there are other things on the menu that will be bringing me back. Can be a little slow at times. It is a small, intimate place and can get busy on weekends, but it is on Mississippi, so it is kind of expected.

more like delta miss. at least at brunchtime anyway. Out for food around noon on a Sunday- saw the crowd in front of Gravy and decided that as AWESOME as Gravy is, I didn't want to wait. So we gave the lil restaurant across the street a go. Big mistake. huge. My husband ordered the breakfast pizza- I just got a small salad and a cup of the daily soup- a "mushroom potato, soup" I was told.( Remember this when I describe it.) so 45 minutes later- with only three other tables occupied in the place, my tiny little salad and cup o soup arrived. Or should I say cup -o-goop. It was so strange and thick and stringy that it would not stay on the spoon. And it tasted like -well, absolutely nothing. I showed it to my waiter who replied "huh, I've never seen anything like that before..." then jauntily strolled away. So I was apparently stuck with my little cup of science project, and started instead on my salad. (Meanwhile my hubby is still waiting for his breakfast pizza.) The salad was well, "meh." FInally the little pizza arrived. Almost an hour for a small pizza? Again, we have a science project on our hands. (Maybe a seven year old was subbing on the kitchen? Perhaps we should have ordered the baking soda volcano instead?)The dough tasted like it was literally flour and water made into a paste and then rolled out til it is about an inch thick and baked in the oven until done. Some flecks of bacon and sausage topped it along with egg. My husband ate the toppings and left the rest. It was so bad it was actually quite hilarious. To quote a back-packing friend- "it'll make a turd." Thats about sums it up. As we left, we looked over at Gravy and realized we could have been eating the challah french toast and an amazing omelette instead of the goop soup and paste pizza. A little tear came to my eye. Oh well, there is always next Sunday.

After reading all the great reviews about this place, I really wanted to try it for myself. I came here last weekend for dinner with my gf, but it wasn't quite as how I expected. I think I had high expectations after reading all these reviews. This place was small and quite hidden. I had to drive up and down Mississippi Road until i eventually found it. There were a lot of customers in the restaurant, but we were seated right away. The service was great, the food didn't take too long and the server checked up on us frequently to make sure everything was okay. We started out with the sweet potato fries. They were soft and not crispy enough, but they were sweet though. I didn't care too much for the apple dipping sauce that came with the fries. It tasted just like applesauce. The gf ordered the fried chicken. That was pretty good, very crispy and big. I thought that was the best part of the meal. I ordered the meatloaf with red beans/rice and mac/cheese. I didn't like the meatloaf too much because it was kind of dry. There wasn't enough marinara sauce that they put on top of it. I did like the mac/cheese and red beans. The red beans were pretty hot with the jalapenos, just the way i like it. Overall, i liked the atmosphere and service. The food was mediocre. But i wouldn't come out of my way to come here.

If your grandma is Paula Dean, you may be disappointed. But if you want a mint julep and some decent collard greens doused in hot sauce, Miss Delta will do you just fine. The Shrimp Creole is meh but the jambalaya is quite tasty due to a high quality, smoky andouille sausage. They offer vegan friendly versions of many dishes, which is weird for southern food, but nonetheless thoughtful of them.

First time I've given 3 stars to a place with food this good... I had a lecture to attend, last night, but I was FIENDING for fried chicken. GOOD fried chicken. Liked the reviews for Miss Delta, sought it out (and, incidentally, discovered the Mississippi neighborhood during a holiday festival), went in. It had a number of tables occupied, but wasn't really hopping. No one at the bar. A server (one of two) noticed us and told us to sit at any clean table. No problem; we chose the cool window seat for its view of the costumed people and the pageantry outside. Yay! We took about 10 minutes to decide our total order, drinks included... and waited for another 12 minutes before our server came over to take our order, despite my catching his eye on 3 occasions before that. (At least, the third time, he said he'd "be right over".) Drinks came. My ginger martini was pretty gingery, but also a little sweeter than my palate prefers, these days. Hubby's bloody mary desperately lacked salt and flavor (kudos for all of the lovely pickledy things onna skewer, though). He drank it anyway (he hates to complain, and we couldn't get our server's attention). Drinks finished. Waited a while longer. Fried okra came (he loves it -- ate it growing up). Crunchy salty peppery cornmeal batter -- yum! Okra still a bit slimy, but tolerably so. (It's an okra thing. I grew up in California; what can I say?) Okra finished. Waited. And waited. And waited. And while we waited, drinkless, noshless, we became aware of how unutterably, ungodly AWFUL the music was. It was some sort of gothic cacophony with plenty of dissonance and guitar feedback, and it was LOUD and INTRUSIVE. We couldn't talk over it without shouting. It made my teeth ache. It made my HAIR ache. They must only play it because it feels so good when they stop... OK, so there were two guys in the kitchen, and one of them appeared to be busing tables and washing pots. But the guy who appeared to be cooking didn't look like he was flying -- pacing himself? I missed my lecture. It had been going on for half an hour (and we'd been there an hour and a half) before the main dishes were served. Collard greens swimming in meaty meat juice... num num. (Did not choose the vegan option, which is offered right on the menu.) Not overdone. Mashed potatoes warm and fresh and swimming in spicy, flavorful gravy. Noshnoshnosh. CRISPY fried chicken, crunchy-spicy and not greasy crust, very very juicy bird on the inside. Delish. New drinks, ordered as food arrived: FABULOUS sidecar. Truly. Hubby's Old Fashioned perfectly mixed, and wonderful. Final drink: we split a "Miss Delta". Not as sweet as it sounded on the menu -- very pleased with it. Price for dinner: average, for food of this quality in the greater Portland area. But seriously, two hours for dinner when it's not busy and we're not dawdling? We chose poorly, for the evening. If you're not in a hurry, the food is worth it. Otherwise, maybe not. And bring headphones.

Some of the best southern food in PDX. I've yet to find a better fried shrimp po'boy in town. And RC cola in a mason jar, ah feels like the south. Their hush puppies and black eyed pea fritters are delicious too. When you step into this restaurant it's like stepping into a dive in the French Quarter. If it was only warm enough for them to have floor to ceiling doors and windows opened to the street it would be a match. Thankfully this place is a little out of the way for us or else we'd probably be eating here once a week. mmmmm.....fried shrimp po'boy!

I went to Ms. Deltas a few months ago. A guy I met on OKCupid.com took me there for dinner with a groupon he had. He told me it was Southern cuisine. I was already excited. Any food designated as Southern/Comfort is my favorite food. I took the MAX up to Mississippi Ave and waited outside the restaurant for my dinner companion to arrive. I got to check out the menu while sitting outside. I also got to watch the two different tables of people eating their food outside. It was fun to watch their smiles and obvious approval of their food while listening to my headphones. When my friend arrived, we went inside, and were greeted by a hip, attractive young woman who took us to a table next to the window. This place is semi-dimly lit, with brick walls, candle lit tables, and a very eclectic decor. My man-date started his meal off by ordering a 40 OZ PBR! "You can get a 40 of PBR here!?" I exclaimed. Our server smiled and asked if I would like one as well. I informed her that I did. What happened next I will never forget. THEY BROUGHT OUR 40'S OF PBR TO US IN AN ICE BUCKET WITH COLD GLASSES ON THE SIDE. Epic. We promptly opened our Pabst Blue Ribbons and started to drink and look at the menu. There were many excellent looking options to choose from. In the end, I was having a dilemma over the Fried Chicken or Jumbalaya. My two favorite foods. The server had to come back twice while I made my decision, but was very patient and friendly about it. In the end, I ordered Fried Chicken with sides of mashed potatoes, and mac and cheese. I decided to just carb it up. After our order was in, I started talking with my date. Sometimes this thing happens when I talk and I drink, and I use my hands. A lot. I ended up accidentally punching my date's PBR glass and spilling beer all over his pants and our table. I am one classy broad. I got up to ask for a rag, and the woman behind the bar was very nice and made a joke about me spilling which made me feel more comfortable. She came and helped me sop up the 1884 Blue Ribbon Award Winner. When our dinner came, I was thoroughly impressed. The Fried Chicken was good. Not the best I've ever had, but still good. The mashed potatoes where the same. Not the best, but not bad in any way. What made the meal for me was the Mac N Cheese. It was unbelievable, and it made me wish I would have ordered one of the Mac N Cheese specials they had going on that night. Our server told us it was kind of a big deal there. The food here is definitely worth trying. It's not bland by any means. The atmosphere is great. You'll be sold on the super high ceiling, brick walls, and candle lit tables. If that doesn't do it, the service will make you smile. If that doesn't do it, throw your PBR at your date.

I went to Miss Delta's with my Groupon this past Sunday, not having very high hopes since I am a vegetarian and southern food tends to be on the meaty/fishy side. Veg options were indeed limited, but less so than I had imagined. Everything that my husband and I ordered wavered between oh-so-good! and excellent. We over-ordered too, not knowing how large the portions were. FAVORITES: 1. Tofu Po-boy (bbq sauce is delicious! I am still thinking about it two days later.), 2. Vegetarian Cheese Grits (packed with flavor), 3. The Black Eyed Pea Fritters (fried to perfection and served w/ green a wonderful chili cheese dip). Also worth mentioning is the festive atmosphere, a creative drink menu and the fact that you can bring 7" singles in on Sundays and have the staff play them for you. If there was a half-star option, I would be giving Miss Delta a 4 1/2 star rating.

I wish I had enjoyed it more but I didn't. We used a Groupon, thank goodness so it didn't hurt quite as bad to be so disappointed. I started with a Mint Julep - it was so strong it was undrinkable. I let it sit on my table unsure if the server would offer to replace it but it wasn't until the end of the meal that he finally noted it and then sorta gave me a hard time about not having said anything as he would have replaced it had he known. I think this was a little bit of both of our faults.. I should have said something but I was trying not to be over-annoying and he should have caught it but he was really busy and ignored us ALOT. For the meal I decided to go ahead and be adventurous by trying the crawfish boil which is a special on one night of the week only. I have had, and still think fondly of, crab boils in the past and was REALLY excited to get this dish again. After waiting a LONG time in a really hot restaurant I was served a huge steaming pile of food on the table. I knew that this was how it was going to served (no plate, just splayed on some newspaper in front of you), in fact that's half the fun, but it was a really bad choice due to the fact that it made the temperature of my immediate area go up about 25 degrees. I was sweating like a mo-fo. On to the food: IT WAS AWFUL! Oh.. I am just shaking my head thinking about it. Why did it have to be so bad??? So sad. The red potatoes were raw - inedible. The sausage was fine but did not lend it's flavor to the overall dish which was absolutely taste free. The shrimp were plentiful but tasteless. I had to order a side of cocktail sauce just to get them choked down. The craw-fish were dirty inside and completely inedible. When I have had "boils" in the past they were hearty and flavorful... I think they forgot to add any seasoning at ALL to the boil because there was NOTHING there. Zip, zero, nada (except for the sausage which was just. fine but didn't make the pot taste any better). So sad. Oh yea... I almost forgot.. they managed to get flavorless, soggy corn on the cob. It's the middle of summer and I'm fairly sure they used frozen corn in this dish. I could NOT believe it. It was SO BAD. I told the waiter about the tastlessness of the dish and he was none too sympathetic saying to me, "those people over there are loving it" but he did take some of the price off the bill and offerred to bring me "something to get you full" I chose the cornbread. The butter was not sweet and the bread was dry. Another failure. My husband ate the pulled pork sandwhich. I tasted the meat and it was pretty sweet and yummy with a nice smoked flavor. However, there was no sauce... which is fine and probably better in some ways because BBQ sauce can sometimes really overpower a dish BUT... it would have been nice to at least have some kind of sauce offered to put on your own desired amount. Nope. Sauce-free. The sandwhich got boring fast w/o the sauce. It was served with coleslaw on the sandwhich which was pretty good and a side salad ... not bad. I was going to order something else because the horrible corn bread did NOT fill my tummy but the waiting, and waiting, and waiting, and waiting over my 104 degree plate in a 100 degree room got the best of me and we finally just paid and left. It was a sauna in there. Hated it.

The restaurant itself is another trendy cafe, masquerading as a southern installment in the heart of Mississippi Ave. Upon walking in we were glanced at by the hostess, who managed sullen acknowledgment but unable to actually smile. OK, she was having a bad night. With a 20min wait, we volunteered to get a drink at the bar and the hostess spun around and returned to sulking. She neglected to mention the lack of a bartender. 20min spent politely waiting at the bar before we were eventually just seated with no beverage. 25more minutes elapsed before we were actually waited upon. We inquired as to the expected wait time for food (it was getting late) and snappily replied to that it would be 15-20min. 45 minutes later, the rest of the restaurant had been served and our waitress seemed intent on dodging our table, having not come over since. We decided at this point to cut our losses and leave. The waitress turned snappy, informed us our food was "on the rack" to which we requested they bag it. It wasn't ready. We waited another 15 minutes before food was in hand (well, they neglected some sides) and the waitress turned into a hostile evil little woman. Would never recommend to anyone. With all your choices on this street, AVOID MISS DELTA. The food? We were split: Catfish was not fresh but cooked well. The chicken fried steak is over-breaded glorified, hamburger. Potatoes are salty and the gravy is subpar. The flat iron steak was apparently amazing, though.

Had happy hour there and for the prices it was really pretty good, had vegetarian grits and some collard greens. The staff was really friendly and service was good. Would definitely go back, next time maybe for brunch...it sounded great!

Nice portions, great taste. Friendly and attentive staff. Great for your southern fix or just everyday eating. I'm comparing to my fave place back in Boston, which makes me say that they need ribs and a large beer menu, but that would be unfair. Breakfast looks like it would b killer, with the cocktails to match. I need to come back and try the other courses asap.

So good! I've been a fan of the Delta Cafe for years. Now Portland has Miss Delta, the Mississippi Avenue sister of the Delta Cafe! Both offer phenominal Southern fare for a great price in a great, casual environment. The ribs are to die for and the jambalaya is packed full of flavor.

I've given this place a couple chances, and each time has been more disappointing than the last. Everything is beyond mediocre- the mac and cheese is whatevs, the collards are meh, but the fried chicken is so flavorless (and dry) that we actually laughed out loud. I get the sense that people are just so excited about "southern" food that they give this place good ratings, but if you want so-so southern in portland, I would try, say, yam-yams at half the price. Or for a delicious northwesterny take on southern, try the Screen Door. This place just seems to be trying to cash in on a trend, and for that price, it's kind of insulting.

Went with my visiting brother on a whim last night after a quick check of a few other places just didn't float our collective boats. One of those nights where you don't want to cook, driving anywhere seems like scaling K2, and you want to eat a pint of ice cream instead of a salad. I suggested Miss Delta, because over the years it's been a reliable, though not great, place for some comfort food and it's a short walk. It just so happens we went on the night that the new owners (we chatted with Marcus, one half of the couple who assumed ownership about six months back) debuted their new menu -- and it was half-price bottled wine night (new wine menu too)! Serendipity!! I was lucky to be the *first* one to order the new and improved etouffee. Crawfish instead of shrimp, of course, and they were monstrous! Claws like a small lobster. And that's not to mention the copious amounts of tail meat throughout. That, and the more pronounced butter and sherry (Madeira?) sauce made this dish borderline swoon-worthy. I had to slap the bro's hands for invading my culinary space. He, being a fan of our elementary-school chicken-fried steak (back when "the lunch ladies" actually cooked food), opted for that with some mac 'n' cheese and porky collards. Other than sticking his fork in my food and commenting on the adorable owner (sorry boys, married with children), he didn't look up or pipe up too much. Full-mouth syndrome. If you haven't been to Miss Delta in a while, it's time to give it another try. They are on the right track, tweaking with things slowly and introducing their own recipes. I'm looking forward to going again ... especially on 1/2 price bottled wine night!

I love Miss Delta. Great range of food to suit various tastes and dietry requirements. The jambalaya was amazing. Coffee is good. Highly recommended. The portions are generous, the sides are very tasty and diverse and it is not expensive.

Love this place, you have to try the meat trio. It's big enough to share. The staff is always helpful and pleasant. I've tried a lot of southern food in Portland and Miss Deltas is the hands down winner. Also, try the Abita Purple Haze beer, unlike any I've tried and that's saying a lot for Portland.

Wanted to try this place for awhile and I was a little disappointed. First the service was really not that great, but they were busy so I'm sure they had their reasons, even though I saw the staff just standing around. Let's get down to the food, since I am all about food. So my fiance and I shared the corn fritters and fried okra and the were okay. I mean not much to okra so really no complaint there, however the fritters were so doughy and flavorless. We each got a po'boy and I could have made a sandwich like that at home. I know there is not much to a po'boy, but if your gonna serve them, make them taste good at least. Not a place I would like to try again.

I sure wanted to like this place but noticed a few red flags that soured my experience. I came in with my mother looking for a fun place to grab a bite while on Mississippi. We came in at a fairly busy time but were seated at the bar 20 min into our wait. The atmosphere was nice, albeit a bit loud. We sat for 5-10 min before having our drink orders taken and then after ordering 2 beers- I proceeded to watch 4-5 staff members walk behind the bar, make drinks and look at the ticket without taking care of it. From my perspective, I couldn't tell who the bartender was since the gentleman behind the bar spent as much time chatting with other staff as he did making a drinks. I have worked FOH, BOH, and everything in between and know that you can't just ignore a ticket, even if it's not your own table. I felt especially irked since I could have reached out and poured the beers myself much quicker. We did get the drinks but only about 5 min before our food arrived (30 into service). I had a brisket sandwich which had a nice sauce but dry brisket. The sides were unremarkable but we did order an okra soup that was bland and lumpy. The wedge salad was good, and we both enjoyed the fries. I love BBQ, if i were you I'd hit up Russell St or Campbells. I might be persuaded to try it again but if first impressions count I'd work on yours a little.

This may mark the first time I literally started yelping right as I left the restaurant. I simply couldn't contain myself -- what a great brunch! And by yelping I mean a grown man going "whew...whew!.....WHEWW!!!" and patting his belly like a jolly prince all the way down Mississippi. I came here with my gal Jake around 11:30am on a Sunday, prime brunch hour. I didn't have to wait an hour in a line, or put my name on a list, and after we finished we weren't rushed to leave. So if you are perusing the Yelp map on a Sunday morning and looking for the "low key" option, this may be a good bet (meanwhile, across the street at "Gravy," a crowd had formed....) Like a couple of douchebags we both ordered the same thing -- the "Southern Stacker," an enormous biscuit sandwich. Jake got the pulled pork; I got the fried chicken with sausage gravy and bacon -- talk about a triple dip! Of course, we traded bites. Jake and I always trade bites. We were definitely "those guys" that day, as in "look at those guys with the big ol identical breakfast sandwiches! They must be having some sort of competition; this must be some sort of tradition for them!" But really we were competing with ourselves -- the Southern Stacker is no joke. I'm a husky guy, and sitting there in my little brunch vest, I was worried I wouldn't be able to finish. This is not a meal you can take to-go: you don't wanna do that to your stomach twice. Jake was nothing but encouraging: "Jack, just head to the pisser and let off some steam." So glad I did! Past the quaint menagerie of antique chandeliers and incongruous, burnt siena tiling, the bathrooms are neatly tucked next to a hutch of firewood, the savory scent of smoke masking any unpleasant odors. After my brief, rustic vacation, I hoisted myself back up to the bar and ate everything. If you're trying to making it a brunch for the ages, get a coffee and a beer. The taps are top-notch, and they've got the Stumptown grounds everyone craves. "Is there chicory in this?" I asked. "No," replied the host, "but we get that all the time!"-- fuck me right?! The service was all charm and no bullshit, and the bill came out to exactly $30.00 between the two of us: a magical end to a magical morning. "No offense, Jack, but don't think I'm gonna pick up your beer!" I'm just glad that Jake and I are so close. A lesser man would have just let me split the check in half. But turns out I got the last laugh: on the easy drive home, I lodged a bulbous dessert mint in one jowl with a toothpick securing my chompers. "I wish I'd grabbed a toothpick, Jack, I already chewed up my mint." Who doesn't get both, right?! Stupid Jake....

Spent a weekend down and Portland and needed a big american style breakfast to finish my portland experience before I headed back to Seattle. And I'm happy to say that Gravy delivers. Gravy's Menu is very simple, biscuits and fried food in all the ways you want. The portions are huge and you will leave stuffed. I had the "Southern Stack" a buttermilk biscuit sandwich and a side of there Mac and cheese and it was large and in charge. Delta's star dish imo, is the mac and cheese. The Mac and cheese is almost worth taking a 2 1/2 hr drive. Great way to end a awesome weekend in P-town.

Friendly service, good atmosphere, and decent prices for the amount of food you get. As a disclaimer, I am somewhat sensitive to salt, and know there is always some in bbq. This had a lot, so much that I had 4 glasses of water immediately coming home after the two I had in the restaurant with my meal. I didn't realize how salty it was until I came home. My husband's pulled pork wasn't pulled, it was chopped, which for him is somewhat of a big deal because of texture and anticipation, as primarily a vegetarian who very, very rarely eats meat. He was disappointed. My brisket was fine, but the bun was perfectly toasted. The macaroni and cheese was quite good though. If we do go back at some point, I'd probably get that.

We had friends in from out of town and we decided to try this place. I asked for a table for 4 and they said "25-30 mins". Great! They put our name on the list, took my phone number, and said they would call us when our table was ready. Over an HOUR later we stop by. Our name is still there, and all of the names above and some below us are crossed off. We decided to continue to wait because we had already waited so long. Big mistake - when the next table opened up, they seated a party of 5 in front of us. We left. 20 minutes later I got the call - "Are you still interested in that table?" Absolutely not. Totally rude and disrespectful. Will never go back.

Do your mouth a favor and go here now. We went last night after a cold, wet, long day of apartment hunting and I can't say enough nice things about it. I was surprised to see all the bad reviews about service because our waitress Nicole was so amazing! Anyways, about the food: I ordered the blackened catfish with mac & cheese and okra (you can sub appetizers for sides for $1). The catfish was the thickest, best catfish I've ever had. The seasoning was amazing and it was so delicious. The mac & cheese was seriously the most amazing, creamy and cheesy m&c I've ever had. The okra was pretty good too but that's pretty hard to mess up. My boyfriend had the specialty meatloaf that had andouille in it and it was incredible as well. His sides were the yummy mac & cheese and some cornbread. The only points I'd knock off would be for the cornbread which seemed overly sweet and dense but that's such a minor complaint and maybe some people like it that way. Overall, the service was great, the atmosphere was nice and the food was out of this world.

Love, love, LOVE this place! It's got such a great vibe and the servers are so sweet. The food is literally the cherry on top. The Jambalaya is my absolute favourite along with the chicken and waffle. I went here for breakfast with my family and I thought I was going to die from a heart attack because of how heavy it all is but in all honesty, I wouldn't even regret it. Some good old southern food never hurts.

Love Miss Delta's! Got tired of waiting in the endless brunch line at Gravy, so I walked across the street to Miss Delta. Love the bluesy Louisiana atmosphere, eclectic drink menu, and creole dishes. I've been here at least a dozen times, and I've consistently had awesome service, excellent food and a good time!

Second time here, thought that it would be different. Fried fish was good and tasty, as usual the sides were horrible. The grits were grainy and course with little to no cheese. We had flies flying over our meal the whole time, told the waiter Andrew about this and all he replied was, "well how does the food taste"......... Don't think I'll be returning..

A quaint little spot with friendly service and unique flavors. The ribs have a wonderful smoky flavor with a kick! The portions are large. The Mac and cheese was a little too al dente for me. The collards were excellent and for people who don't want meat they have a veggie greens option. The fried chicken has a very heavy breading and was slightly over fried. The sweet yam fries were under done and hard but the sauce they came with was delicious. The sweet tea is huge, served in a mason jar, and for someone from the south it was a very welcomed menu option. The mashed potatoes had a nice white pepper type gravy on top. Over all I really enjoyed the meal.

Delish food. Ample portions. Good service. Cool atmosphere. I'm full and content. One thing I'd want for the future... It was our first time there and when I asked about a couple of the main dishes the waitress had a hard time helping me choose. She didn't really have much to say other than "that's a hard choice." Clearly, that's why I asked her opinion. We will definitely be back though.

Small but wonderful experience. They don't take reservations so if there are more than 4 of you be prepared to wait for a table. Well worth the wait! As an extra, this establishment is nestled in a very Portlandia type neighborhood.

My fiance and I went here for a bite and drink on a Thursday night and it was great! I'm from the south and really miss a lot of the classic dishes I used to have before moving west. This place adds some Portland flare to the dishes but it works for the better. The portions are generous and the service was excellent! Our server had just the right balance of being attentive without pestering us. She was very friendly and added to the overall enjoyment of the place. Their beer selection is not the most extensive but has several good options including cider. We'll definitely be back.

As a Louisiana native, authentic Cajun/ Creole Southern food is important to me ! I have to say, this is the best food I've had since we moved to the PNW !!!!! For lunch I had the pulled pork Po-boy with sweet potato fries ... Omylanta !!!!!! It was delish! Large portions and seasoned just right!! My Hubby had Chicken Fried steak and loved it! Our waiter was the cutest lil thing and treated us wonderfully! We will definitely be coming back!! We loved the atmosphere and the decor was cozy and warm! Love Miss Delta!! We went for brunch on Mother's Day. We arrived about 15 minutes before they opened but people were already lining up. In spite of so many people being seated at one time - the staff handled it well. The two things that stood out for us were the Bloody Mary's (nice & spicy) and the Chicken and Waffles - delicious! The fried chicken was really good with a crunchy coating. The waffles were fabulous!

You can't miss eating here! New to Portland I preempted my trip with first hand accounts from dozens of former denizens and visitors painting a picture of a city full of happening foodie hotspots. Nearing the top of a list of must see spots was Miss Delta. I was delighted that I started here. The brisket was incredible, the chicken and waffles superb, and the sweet tea is the best I've had since leaving Alabama! I have since found similarly awesome dining experiences as promised but this is a great place to start.

Great service, great food, and no crazy line out the door! We showed up a few minutes before they opened and the 9 of us were seated immediately!

When I asked a friend of mine who lives on Mississippi where to eat, she told me "just go to Miss Deltas and call it a day". Spot on recommendation! We ordered a meat platter that was heaping with a gorgeous charcoal brisket, spare ribs, and pulled pork all on one plate. This one meal lasted me most of the week. Miss Deltas knows how to do Southern comfort food.

Soooo... Originally I was trying to make it to screen door but for 1 1/2 hrs wait. No! My cousin and I came to miss delta and it was less waiting time and more comforting than SD would have been. The chicken and waffle definitely hit the spot! Wished I would have came here first but the SD.

WOW, first time here and impressed. We had jambalaya and 2 kinds of poor boys. The portions were generous and flavors spot on. I've been looking for someplace to replace lagniappe who closed a few years ago. Unfortunately we don't live in the area but we will be back here. There is so much more to try.

Miss Delta has continued to amaze me every time I visit PDX. The neighborhood it's located in has become congested, commercialized, and somewhat obnoxious. That won't deter me from returning to Miss Delta and I advise you be patient when looking for parking. Okay, now to the nitty gritty. We meet some some friends for dinner on our last visit. We shared fried ocra, hush puppies, and frog legs for appetizer. All were great and was washed down with our 40 oz served in an ice bucket. Our mains consisted of craw fish etouffee, meatloaf, and two orders of Delta's meats. We had enough food to feed the club next door. The meatloaf was out of this world. I found myself mixing some meatloaf with my mac and cheese and I was in heaven. One downside was that the pork served with the meat platter was dry and bland. I'll give them a pass on that one since everything else was on point. I recommend this place to anyone looking for a place to warm you spirit, soul, and heart. I only wish I had something similar back home. Thank you Miss Delta's, you sent us home with a smile and full belly.

When seeking quality Southern food in Portland, Screen Door usually is the first place that comes to mind. However, in my opinion, Miss Delta is just as good as Screen Door. I think that Screen Door wins the fried chicken battle, but the side dishes at Miss Delta appeased my taste buds more. I tried the corn bread, red beans & rice, mashers, mac & cheese, and stewed tomatoes & okra. It all was top notch! The meatloaf is pretty dang good too.

In our quest to try new places, combined with our hankering for BBQ and wanting a nice Saturday evening stroll brought us to Miss Delta. I love the vibe of Miss Delta. Not to put down all new trendy spots on Mississippi, but just wasn't in the mood for that atmosphere and waiting for a table. Walked in at about 7 pm and there were only a few tables taken ( but the place filled up soon after) They have a nice mix drink menu and hubby enjoyed one of their Hurricane's which I had a taste of and they do not skimp on the liquor ( that's a plus) They also have a good selection of beer ( local breweries) That being said I wish their Miss Delta Meats BBQ platter had been as good as the atmosphere, and I really wanted this to be good. You get to pick 2 sides we both got the Mac and the Green beans. Mac was very good, not too cheesy but just right. The green bean side (seasonal) was delicious. It was a mix of green beans with pork, very taste. The meats are smoked brisket, 2 port ribs and pulled pork. The brisket was very nice, good cut with a very tasty rub on them with a bit of a kick afterward. The pulled pork was okay, but nothing very special. The 2 ribs were generous, but they were so fatty and tough I gave up trying to find the meat on them. Ribs are a staple of a BBQ platter and IMO should be the center piece of the meal. I would like to try this place again some time and get a different meal as I want it to be good. But with all the quality choices out there for PDX restaurants not sure if I will be heading back too soon. All and all I give 4 stars for service, drinks and atmosphere. Food I give 3 stars with a 1 star to the ribs.

Went here for happy hour last week and had an average experience. Atmosphere: Smelled funny Prices: Good portions for the price but the price is high for happy hour items Mixed Drinks: I would give these 5 stars!! Food: Flavor is pretty bland If someone asked me to meet them here I would, but I would not suggest the place.

Service was good; food was ok. Mixed up our side items and my order was not correct (asked for certain toppings on the burger, but got everything). I would consider going back again and trying something different, but probably would not recommend.

The food here is actually really good, especially the chicken fried chicken. Solid biscuits, nice quality grits, they have a full bar...but the service is distractingly bad. Maybe the kitchen was backed up? I hope our tall blonde server has a 2nd job that she is not lame at, and only works here on weekends to pay off student loans. It took 15 minutes for anyone to even stop by our table and ask if we wanted coffee, in a dining room with 3 seated tables and two servers. Our food took about...30-40 minutes to come out. For breakfast, that's a little lengthy. They kept having more staff members appear/start their shifts, but that didn't make anything go more smoothly. Annoyingly, these additional people just floated around looking fashionable and confused. The food is good, but it isn't good enough to cancel out their farty service.

Just had a yummy lunch. We began with hurricanes. They were yummy, fairly classic, perhaps a little on the tart side and a little less alcohol than one would want but pretty good just the same. We moved on to lunch and tried a smattering if dishes. The gazpacho is very good, order it if it's available. The jambalaya was also excellent with a good rice to stuff ratio. The Mac and cheese had great flavor but was not what I expected. For those of you who like a baked gooey cheesy mess you'll be disappointed. This should be called cheese soup other pasta or pasta with cheese sauce it is not the lovely baked wedge of casserole topped with buttery crumbs. That doesn't mean you shouldn't order it just be prepared for a different texture. The brisket is also a lovely flavor but is not the tender falling apart meat you expect. It is much more substantial. Nicely smoked but then needs a good amount of moist braising to have the texture we all expect. We gave the corn bread a big thumbs up but ask for extra honey. Over all I'll come back. I want to try the chicken and waffle. The service was outstanding, I hope you're lucky enough to get Yafe.

I waited until my fourth time here to write a review. Now that Miss delta has consistently provided me with amazing food and great service, I feel extra confident to refer everyone their way! Each time I've been in I've been helped and served right away. All the staff have been friendly and knowledgable. I even called on a Saturday night asking if they did to-go orders and even though they were packed, the girl on the phone made it work and was so friendly about it. Moving on to the food. First couple times around I hadn't been able to stray away from the pulled pork po boy. They have amazing sauce and the pork is nice and smokey. They make the yam fries a little too firm for my taste so I suggest the crinkle fries or the blue cheese salad( it's homemade). The past couple times I've been able to try a few new things. The brisket sandwich is DELiCIoUs. They put onion rings in there and amazing BBQ sauce. My friend had the Jambalaya and was a huge fan. Definitely check this place out, you wont be disappointed.

Good southern food with a friendly atmosphere. If you're from Carolina you'll be pleased to know they have Cheerwine which I would guess would make them the only restaurant in Portland that can say that.

First of all, when you go out for brunch in Portland on a Sunday, you expect to wait at least an hour. We got in Miss Delta within 20 min! Not sure if that was just luck :) . Here are the highlights: *Laid-back atmosphere and good service *MUST TRY biscuits & gravy *Outstanding fried chicken *Great bloody marys

I LOVE this place. Been going here now for about a year. Awesome place for a casual dinner, brunch, or drink. Great place to take visiting family too! Some of my favorite dishes: blackened catfish or fried chicken Po-Boy (I call it the Po Joy), brisket sandwich, jambalaya, sweet potato fries, fried okra, and grits. I really like the coleslaw too (which I'm not usually a fan of). Great salad dressings too. The drinks are delicious (they make a great margarita and have awesome specialty menu drinks too). The happy hour is generous and filling. The food is always hot and I always take something home for leftovers. The service: makes me feel right at home. Everyone is friendly, down to earth, but real. I've had great conversations with the staff here. Everyone has great advice about the menu too. My favorite server is a gentleman named Johnny. Always spot on, friendly, and knowledgeable about the food. Lauren, Cassy, and Nicole are all close seconds. The staff is just delightful. I have to add, the brisket is smoked IN HOUSE, which is super rad. Just sayin. I may, or may not, have gained 10 pounds after I first started eating here. Yum. This place is great. Definitely go. If you're going with a bigger group, make sure to call ahead to make sure they aren't slammed. This place is better for smaller groups.

While waiting for brunch is fashionable, sometimes your hangover just can't wait an hour in line for an amazing plate of food. Luckily Miss Delta on Mississippi offers delicious breakfast plates with little to no wait compared to say, Gravy or anything on Alberta. Similar to Screen Door, Miss Delta offers Southern comforts alongside traditional brunch offerings. Waffles, fried chicken, cornbread, country fried: they do them all well here. I recently had their sausage scramble and it was super flavorful, so much that our server was jealous! Their dinner offerings are quite impressive too, though we weren't impressed by how long it took for our orders to come out. They do warn on the website (but not in the restaurant) that fried items take extra time to come out. Luckily our cocktails tided us over before we devoured our plates. B/f's fried chicken was cooked perfectly, and the sausage gravy on his mashed potatoes is laced with crack. My jambalaya had a good heat topped with fresh shrimp. Overall, great experience here with some minor hiccups. I wouldn't put it on Screen Door level, but I would say that if you don't want to wait for a table, definitely come here.

Big fan of the mac-n-cheese. A couple of my old favorites are no longer on the menu, sadly. Servers are friendly, but service can be painfully slow even when they're not that busy. Last time it took over 20 minutes for our server to come take our order, even though we told her while we were being seated that we already knew what we wanted *sigh*

I have been trying to find a good friend chicken place in Portland for years, and so far Miss Delta has served up the best plate (yes, beating out even Screen Door). I ordered the fried chicken (and opted for the white meat, as opposed to the dark) with a side of mash and mac and all was heavenly. Everything was super hot (in temperature, not spice) and rich with flavor. The mac was creamy and could be a whole meal in itself, while the mash was delightfully light and fluffy. The skin on the chicken was crispy with lots of flavor too. I recommend slicing the chicken open a bit prior to biting, since it was pretty hot. While I ordered up a fountain Coke, my husband ordered the lemonade, which is top-notch! He didn't finish it, so I polished off, and had no guilt in attempting to drink every last drop. Our server was an absolute doll, and chatted it up with us in a very nice and friendly way. The ambiance is fantastic too. Brick walls are adorned with fun pictures while chandeliers dangled from the ceiling. The bar is nifty too - hammered copper featuring Portland images. While I filled up quickly with my food I couldn't resist ordering a slice of the Black Forest cake to take home, which was equally yummy. I look forward to many return visits.

I said I wasn't coming back the last time but the kids wanted BBQ and it was after 9 pm , so I did anyway tonight and it was a huge mistake!!! Look this is Portland, Oregon and if you want to claim you do southern soul food you need to bring it! It's really unfortunate that the new owners didn't keep some of the old owners food quality . The hush puppies were so over fried that they were burnt on the outside and soggy dough balls on the inside. Sent them back.. No "I'm really sorry" let is fix that, it was do you want another order or take them off the bill. Are you kidding me? The Screendoor on burnside might be a hell of a wait, however you know the quality is going to be off the chain! The sweet potato fries are cut so thin that they too were burnt crispy. Loved the days of large thick cut sweet potatoes served with applesauce ...mmmm Now the okra, well I'm not really a fan but outside is crispy but slimy on the inside... Next... Now this rating is in the food quality only, I can honestly say the servers are WAY friendlier than days gone by, yet I don't care how nice you are it doesn't make up for the poor food quality The clincher tonight was the rib plate! The last time I was here the ribs were honestly over done to the point of burnt to a crisp but tonight however I couldn't cut the meat with a knife . Underdone pork is a no no. Having to naw the meat off the bone like a wild animals is not the way pork ribs should be presented. If you can't flake the pork with a fork then you need to put them back on the BBQ ! Can you screw up a burger, well you can if you automatically cook the meat with out seasoning till it's dry, my son said the only thing good about it was the bacon! Look, stop cooking on HIGH, rethink your prep and get it together on Mississippi ! And to all the 4 and 5 stars voted on here obviously have not visited some of the other amazing soul food joints in town!!' My southern born and raised grandmother would have raised her brow and said lord this is a hot mess ! The Queena

I went back to give Delta another shot after a response from one of the owners. I mean if they're going to take time to respond to reviews why not try it again? Trust me, we went to town on this visit. Ordering at least 4-5 plates. The fried okra was good especially that dipping sauce. Yes I will admit that I was expecting & hoping that it battered instead it was lightly dusted with corn meal? At least it made me think that it was slightly healthier than the battered ones. I ain't gonna lie it actually was a fairly large portion but I ain't complaining. Chicken fried chicken, chicken & waffles and pain perdu, yes still as good as my last visit. I'm beginning to think we should stick to these two dishes. However, I decided I wanted to venture out and try something off their lunch menu...I choose you Smoked Brisket plate! So I hear you've been smoked for 8 hours eh? Oops I think they forgot to put some seasoning on you before they smoked you. Could we use some BBQ sauce to mask your dry spots? Hello Mac & Cheese, what do you taste like? Oh did they let you leave the kitchen looking and tasting like that? They must not have introduced you to Mrs. Salt and Mr. Pepper. I believe the cheese was there too but the heavy cream was dominant and made it taste like Elmer's glue. My other dining guests were not impressed by the meat plate. I'm really not trying to diss this place because it can be good but if it's going for some Southern flair you want your flavors to pop. Like your collard greens with pulled pork...usually ham hocks salt the greens and give it a smoky flavor. Your pulled pork doesn't. And trust me I'm not really a sodium filled person so when I have to add some, it means it's lacking flavor. Thank goodness for that sweet tea! Chicken fried chicken, chicken & waffles and fried okra are the better dishes thus far. Heck if I visit again, I'll try these biscuits the others speak of.

I have never returned food before. This was the worst tasting pulled pork I've ever had. The iced didn't have refills... For some odd reason, they had fried okra as a appetizer and the batter just fell off. Lame as hell.

I have been here several times and I come to the area usually intending on trying something else but the allure of miss Delta always pull me in.. I believe they have the best greens in Portland and by far my favorite chicken and waffles I've had to date, I chose to try something a little different this time and I got the blackened catfish po boy and it was off the hook good! I could not imagine it being any better anywhere else hands down the best po boy I've had in Portland. My 11 year old son ordered the biscuits and gravy and did not say a word until his plate was as clean as hell. I don't know much about anything but being a big old boy I do know one thing if you like good grub you really need to get this spot a shot

We ordered fried chicken (dark meat) with sides of mac and cheese, red beans and rice, and mashers takeout to enjoy at home. The fried chicken was almost black and over fried, not what we had in mind. Perhaps they were using frying oil that was too old and needed changing? I'm not sure, but I wish I could have sent it back. They sides were all very tasty though, especially the rice and beans. Overall, we were disappointed with the meal. Search for decent fried chicken in Portland continues.

So after a alcohol consuming binging night and in need of food, we went to Gravy. They said it was a 45 minute and we said screw that lets go to a bar for some hangover medicine, and right across the street we see one and ended up here. We got the last table available, ordered bloody marys, beer, and yes.. One of my friends ordered a shot at 12 in the morning. PROS: - very cool, attentive staff - awesome food CONS: - can't really think of one To be honest, if you come here, do yourself a favor and order the meatloaf trashy mac and cheese. I don't really remember much else cause I was hungover and drinking a beer while eating... But my very memorable moment here was when everyone ordered breakfast food, I ordered my trashy mac, and everyone asked to try it. When it came out, it was so good we ordered another one for everyone to share.

It's a pretty small restaurant, so there might be a wait. But it is DEFINITELY worth the wait. I had the ribs and my boyfriend had the fried chicken. The ribs were amazing! A little spicy and not too sweet, just how I like it. The fried chicken was some of the best fried chicken I've ever had. All the meat was very tender. You can tell that the Mac and cheese and mashed potatoes are homemade, so delicious. I also LOVED the corn bread, very soft and there are pieces of corn in it..mmm..still dreaming about the food there. The service is also great, quick on drink refills and super friendly! Any time you're in Portland, this is the place to go!!! I can't wait to visit Oregon again so I can eat here!!

Made my second trip in three weeks to Miss Delta last night. I had the same thing both times - the giant combo platter of ribs, pork, brisket, cornbread, and two sides (don't remember the exact name of it). The ribs were great both times, the pork great both times, and the brisket great once and mediocre the second time (pretty tough) but that happens occasionally, not the end of the world. The mac and cheese is a great side, as are the green beans. The cornbread is really good and really big - altogether a lot of food for $20. Service was friendly both times and average to slightly slow pace both times but not to the point of being unpleasant. They have several good draft beer selections and make a few good mixed drinks. We'll definitely go back again.

Excellent southern food in Portland! For drinks the Hurricane and the Mississippi Mule were strong and tasty. Beef brisket was tender. Mac & cheese had some spice to it but soooo good. Jumbalaya was very spicy and had a good mix of shrimp and sausage. Hush puppies were cooked perfectly! It wasn't too busy on a Sunday night about 8. Dim lights and bluesy music transports you to New Orleans :) Server was on top of it, checking in with us plenty but not too much!

I received the worst customer service at this restaurant for my 1st time visiting. Me and my sis tried to call in an order, the bartender/manager Nicole told us we couldn't order a kids meal unless we brought the kids in so she could see it was for them, she then put my sis on hold cause she said my sis wasn't ready to order (but we calling in an order and my sis eat there all the time) then hung up the phone. I called back and she kept picking up the phone then hang up. When she did answer she said me and my sis were the same person. We go down there, she told us she couldn't help us cause there were other customers in there that she needed to help then 86'd us. Mind you that was my FIRST experience with that place and I will NEVER spend my money there. When I called to speak with the owner Nick, to explain what happened last night, in a nutshell, he basically told me that his bartender was right and me and my sis were wrong...smh...I PROMISE this smelly, small, racist, rude restaurant will NEVER get a dime from me!! In response to Nick, you are correct you were not there. Funny you say your manager tried to diffuse the situation but your bartender told us she was the manager when I asked to speak to the manager, so how is that? The customer you are referring to did NOT try to diffuse the situation, in fact, did she mention that she called me and my sister names as well?? I came back in the get my wallet that I thought I left in there and the same woman stood up and said to me"Don't come over here and you better not touch me..." when I wasn't even thinking about her or the bartender. So saying I came back in to cause more trouble was a flat out lie.The bottom line is me and my sister were the only people of color in the restaurant filled with caucasian customers so it was a race issue. I know other people who experienced the same discrimination and they will also be putting their review on yelp as well. I will NEVER spend a dime in this restaurant and I suggest other folks do the same...if they are of color!

Went here today for the first time. Was disappointed that they couldn't make me a hurricane, as they were out of an ingredient but the farmers daughter cocktail they made me was good, just not what I wanted. Got the fried chicken po boy, it was amazing. I didn't realize it would have pickles, would have done without them. Chicken was tender and juicy, and the breaking was peppery and spicy. Overall, great experience!

With the influx of Southern Comfort food in Portland this place really doesn't stand out but it does fit in with the other similar restaurants. I had the Catfish Po Boy, House Salad and a couple of beers. The catfish in the sandwich was wonderful and the House Salad was, well... just a House Salad. I can safely add this to my list of restaurants to visit in the neighborhood and recommend to friends/family

All I wanted was something that could rival all the andouille-laden gumbo and jambalaya, but vegetarian-friendly Found it. Luckily they have a few options that are veggie friendly, I'm not sure about vegan (but I think so too). Of course, being on Mississippi it's a must to be at least one-dish veggie-friendly, but I ate plenty of food so there were more than a few options for me. Yippee!!

The scene: It's 90 degrees out, I've just given myself heat exhaustion like a true Portlander. Tried to up my mileage in the full sun without bringing along water, smooth move! Instead of resting, kept running. Derp. Just as I'm about to turn the sprinklers on 'icy cold' and run through them, I remember I have to meet some friends for dinner. Oh, joy. I'm feeling pretty queasy, and all I really want to do is lie down in the shade and cover myself with ice packs. Instead I rally and venture out to the hot crowded sidewalks of Mississippi, Portland's favorite study in gentrification. After collecting my friends, we wander up and down the street, passing clumps of impossibly hip 30something baby-wearers pawing through the sidewalk racks of shops selling overpriced kitsch, looking for a suitable nosh spot. Waiting for a self-important host/ess to get around to seating us sounds like a snore, so we settle on Miss Delta almost solely because there is no line. And I am so glad we did. I don't know why I hadn't heard of or been to this place before, but somehow, over the course of the meal, I recovered from my horrifying heat-induced haze and actually - gasp! - began to enjoy life again. We were ushered in and given our choice of booths by the world's nicest dude. For really reals, this guy was awesome. He was also our waiter and was attentive and patient and unobtrusive and prompt and patient and all those things that the service industry in Portland is NOT known for. I don't know if they have a graduate school for waiters anywhere, but if they do, this guy was totally a teacher's pet. The service can do a lot to influence your enjoyment of a meal and in this case, he added a star at least. He even smilingly put up with one of my friends pulling a cliche and asking where the meat came from. "Was it happy?" got a straightfaced answer. Kudos, server. Were I you, I would have cracked up and walked away. We started off with the hush puppies (because hush puppies are delicious, DUH), and naturally I ate the majority of them because I am a jerk and hate to share, plus they were amazeballs. Everyone but me got boozy drinks, which they were entirely satisfied with - and the cocktail menu was varied and creative. Ooh! And! Somehow, this place has Abita beer. I had been living life under the impression that one could only procure Abita in Louisiana. Either they've got a smuggling operation going on, or I was wrong. I prefer to think the former - so Southern beer-lovers of the world, take advantage of its availability now before the beer gestapo shuts this shit down. My lady friend and I split the meaty mcmeato meatpants platter (that's not what it's called) which came with ribs, pulled pork, brisket, another kind of meat that I forgot about, cornbread and a couple o' sides (we picked greens and red beans 'n' rice, both of which come in porky and veggie versions). It was all mad delicious (and it's a plate that absolutely must be shared, unless you are a very very hungry lumberjack with a hollow leg). The pulled pork was the standout for me, while ladyfriend devoured the ribs like a champ. The conclusion: D-lish. I love Southern food, and this place does it right. They smoke their own meat, make their own sauces, and don't put on any airs. The service is swift, deft and delightful. We'll be back.

Cajun food in Portland?!? My family în southern Louisiana would say you're crazy! After a long day and our last night in Portland we decided to give it a try. Miss delta definitely did impress my southern roots! The gumbo was great, rich dark roux chocked full of sausage and chicken and shrimp. In my opinion it could use a bit more heat, but I understand you gotta cater to the masses. Cornbread that came with it was large and full of flavor. My wife got the fried catfish, crispy and flaky without being greasy. Sweet potato fries with the honey mustard complimented it perfectly. Has a great southern charm inside. A must do when on Mississippi st.

Miss Delta is one of THE most underrated brunch (dare I say, "secret") spots in NE Portland. Why wait in line at Gravy when you can go right into Miss Delta, be greeted with fantastic service, bloody mary's and AMAZING brunch. When we went, we had, hands down some of the best brunch service in Portland. We were very impressed and pleasantly surprised. I'm so over going to "trendy" brunch restaurants that may have delicious food but the servers act like they want to spit in your face. PROPS to Miss Delta. I ordered a bloody mary (not the best, but definitely tasty) and a southern stack, which was HUGE. Great fried chicken and the gravy is fantastic. They don't open until 10am which helps prevent those crazy line out the door waits.

The Basil mimosa! this sounds wrong but its so right! I would've had 3 of these but had to drive home...fresh muttled basil. I'm a fan. of this place and this drink ! Parking can be a hassle at time but, it's worth it.

Had the fried chicken sandwich, macaroni and cheese, and a half sweet half unsweetened tea, it was all super delicious! The iced tea came in the hugest mason jar! Yum!

We have come to Miss Delta more times than any other restaurant in Portland. The Mac and cheese has never let us down, and the brisket, fried chicken, and cornbread are all amazing. Definitely five stars.

I came into this place because the wait for gravy was too long, I've heard great things about this place and was excited to try it out. There was only two servers so it took a few moments to be seated. I was there with my boyfriend and the girl said to sit anywhere placed for two. After finding a clean table for two we sat...... And sat and waited for 20 minutes! The girl waitress walked by us constantly and didn't say anything. I assumed the man was our server, but over 10mins with no drink order is ridiculous. I was surprised she said nothing to us or our server. We walked out and I will never try this place again.

Remember that one time you stumbled into a bar, drank a beer, drank a shot, drank and drank and then walked out on your lips & had a nasty hangover to help you recall the mistakes you made, well Miss Delta is that place that you must go to to undo the pending brain aneurysm of a hangover you will have the following morning! For the realist in us all, This is the best spot on Mississippi to soak up the alcohol with some trashy Mac, a fried shrimp po'boy, and water served in a wide mouth mason jar, plus they have a tasty well priced Happy Hour list -how do you keep from walking past it! Dinner] Man o man I am a fan of southern food, weather it be creole inspired, some sort of fusion or southern infused... (I'm sure its out there somewhere) Miss Delta sure does a good job of taking care of my Jambalaya and corn bread fix! The food isn't the best I've ever had, but it does it's job! Happy Hour] 4-6p daily and 10p to close Friday & Saturday. here's why I love Miss Delta's HH: $4 Hush Puppies and Corn Fritters $8 tasty pork spare ribs, trashy mac, fried shrimp po'boy, and JAMBA-LAY-A!! what a meal deal homie! The breakfast just doesn't do it for me, tasty but lacking portion, and but definitely not lacking salt, at least I know that's not all Miss Delta offers because their dinner and Happy Hour menus come through. the service at Miss Delta has always been great, the servers are always cool and joke back and I've never feel like I am just a tip at a table- they are always on working their A game, keep the refills coming. The environment is great for a small group or just a dinner date, they have a full bar and the noise level isn't bad either and I just like this place.

Heard amazing things about this place and decided to try it. Had lunch there today with my mom and the food was just okay to good. The wait was rather long ,the staff was not able to check in as often as they should have. The couple next to us left because they were waiting over an hour for their food. I ordered chicken and waffles and my waffle was cold the butter wouldn't even melt on it. Nothing to write home about.

We waited an hour for our food and the place wasn't full..... My salad had black and slimy bits..... But the worst part was the rude server. No eye contact, slammed our food down.... Just seemed unhappy to have customers.

I've said it before and I'll sat it again: their blue cheese dressing is the tastiest I've ever had from a restaurant -- chunky bits of cheesy goodness and a touch of spice (probably hawt sauce) that just makes it...perfect. The staff was really friendly and engaging and the food left me feeling stuffed and satisfied. I ordered the mac n' cheese with bits of Andouille sausage from the Happy Hour menu (yum!) and I plan to try their gumbo, next time I'm there. Oh yeah, their Dixie Blackened Voodoo Dark Lager is only $3 and one was enough for me to call it a night (and, no, I'm not a lightweight). All-around great experience.

Worse experience I have ever had. Sat at the bar and did not get any agknowledgement from the staff for 20 minutes, after ordering our drinks 3 different times and not getting them, and watching the couple that sat down next to us, after we had already arrived, get drinks and a meal before our drinks were ever started, we decided to leave. the staff was cynical in their apologies and did not offer to make our experience better or compensate us in any way. This was the worse experience ever in a restaurant!!!!

We absolutely loved this place. There were 5 of us and every single dish we got was just fantastic. Chicken and waffles (not on menu), deep fried catfish, pork spare ribs, shrimp and grits, greens, mac n cheese, cornbread.... All of them were cooked and seasoned to perfection. They also had local beers and wines, as well as a nice range of mixed drinks. The staff was super friendly and knowledgeable. The restaurant itself was small and cozy with the perfect amount of lighting. We will definitely be going back soon to try the banana pudding. We ate too much to try it this time.

Had the spare ribs, mashed potatoes, mac n cheese and corn bread. Overall petty good. 1/4 rack of ribs was 3 very large pcs, couldn't even finish this amount. The sides also are pretty large portions. Sides were excellent and the ribs were just slightly above par but I will definitely be going back.

Like the screen door with out the wait! Happy hour prices really iced the cake The fried chicken and waffles is delicious and Sub a salad when you want to lighten it up. The atmo is also very nice No reservations needed

Went twice in one week, so that says something. First night: brisket sandwich with a salad. Really great sandwich even if the slathering of bbq sauce, provolone cheese, and a couple onion rings deviates from the usual setup. Usually prefer a chopped brisket for my sandwich, but the sliced did not disappoint. Looking over the menu made me wish i was hungrier. Waiter did screw up a bit on my friend's drink order, but he made up for it by comping the beer she got (as well as the appetizer since they were out of the special). Good service in my book. Second night: chicken fried steak. Been looking for a good one ever since moving up here from Texas and very pleased. Great gravy, fork tender and the proper cut it seems, without an overabundance of breading nor the dense, granulated breading that betrays a freezer cut. My wife ordered the fried catfish and was pleased as well. Our sides were nothing to sneeze at either, though the mac & cheese felt a little one note on the cheese. Also great to see a place with fried okra that, while a little under breaded for my taste, was very tasty. Probably the crowning achievement was when my wife took a sip of her sweet tea, made a face, and said "wow that's the first Georgian style sweet tea I've had here".

OMG so good! I ordered the short ribs with a side of mac and cheese...so good!!! I loved Miss Delta and its style. Kept the menu short and to the point. When your food is good no need to fancy it up with fillers. Everyone was very friendly and attentive and I will abosolutely be back!!!

I split the jambalaya with a friend and it was almost still too much to share. Delicious and huge chunks of everything all slathered in amazing-ness. Only downside was they had promoted their "patio" which turned out to be two rickety metal tables on the sidewalk. With no seats inside we took a seat outside, but it wasn't the most comfortable situation as it's also the unofficial smoking area for one of the businesses next door. Service was ok, but price was great considering one dish filled two of us!

I've been here three times now, and I have to say there is a reason I keep coming back - the food is more than outstanding and it is a great value. The menu is fairly short, but has everything you would wake up wanting. My favorites are the chicken & waffles, savory stack, and my 8 year old loves the pancakes. I will also say every entree feels 'special' . Whether it's pecan butter, or cinnamon and nutmeg in the pancakes, it is all delicious. The service every time has been pretty slow, and has been forgetful on occasion, but they are friendly and professional!

I'm a bit if a fried chicken junkie. I was in N. Portland and heard about Miss Delta. Wow the Fried Chicken and Waffle was great. The service was friendly and efficient. They have a few nice beers on tap. I had a Dixie Lager from New Orleans in a bottle for the first time and was impressed. I will be back!

What an appropriate place to eat being as I'm from Mississippi. The food here was..... awesome, so was the service! In my opinion I don't think there's anything they can do to improve. It took me back to feeling like I was home for about an hour out of today.

It was a good breakfast and didn't have the wait that Gravy had so we went hear. Definitely has better service than Gravy. I liked the environment and was comfortable in my seat. I'm sure I will be back at some point.

Woohoo! As good as it gets! We went here on Easter for brunch. They open at 10:00a, we got in just before 10:30a. NOT A SINGLE PERSON IN LINE!! I didn't know this could happen in this town. The food was delicious, our waiter was hysterical, and the atmosphere was pretty awesome with exposed brick throughout and some pretty rad family photos all over the restaurant. Definitely coming back!

Went in today for brunch with my girlfriend. She decided on this place over another place downtown after we ran a few errands nearby and her past positive experiences. And, I'm a sucker for southern food. First and foremost, the service was great. Our server was the bartender, most of the tables were full and she took care of us. Not that she did anything overtly fantastic, but she was on the ball, timely and didn't hover. The food also came out very quickly and was hot for sure. But, overall, our food and drinks were less than what we (she mostly) expected. She picked up the grits and pulled pork w/eggs and I had the Jambalaya. Her eggs were barely cooked, with the inner whites still being clear. The grits were so-so, slightly runny and the pork was somewhat unflavorful. I tasted the pork and while it had some nice charring and crunchy bits, it definitely wasn't overly flavorful. My meal was decent but the tomato sauce used seemed canned and underwhelming. Canned is fine since nothing is in season but cajun/creole is built around the spices and seasonings and nothing seemed to be showing the true flavors of the cuisine. The sausage/meats were pretty good and the rice was well prepared, although the shrimp seemed like the frozen brands. The corn bread was quite good, though, so definitely get that for sure. Also, my bloody mary was very underwhelming. I'm happy to have a boozy drink. But, this was mostly vodka with plain tomato juice. There wasn't a whole lot of seasoning or spice and it really did just seem alcoholic. Being a connoisseur of that drink, I was definitely disappointed since my girlfriend told me they had really great ones. I can't complain about their pickled accoutrements skewered in the drink. They were good and almost a meal in and of themselves. After spending a lot of time in the South, I was definitely bummed about the food, considering the other options in the city. I know it was the day after Xmas, but if they did only have the B team that shouldn't be the excuse. Being that I live 4 hours away, I'm not sure we'll be visiting again when I'm back in town to visit her. We both had high hopes after her great reviews and we both felt a bit let down. Hopefully it was simply an off day, but with that being said, I'm not convinced I can come back to test out that theory.

Great Jambalaya and Shrimp and Grits. Some of the best sweet tea I've ever had. Cool atmosphere. Friendly and thoughtful waitress. Just go. You won't be disappointed.

This place is solid and charming! I'm a major mac & cheese connoisseur and this place is one of my favorites. One time I stepped out of the box from my usual mac ordering and got the vegetarian "Po'Boy" sandwich (made with tofu). I'm not really big on this type of thing anyway but it was amazing! Great location too and keep in mind that if you go during normal dinner hours especially on a weekend, it will be busy.

Love Miss Deltas it's our go to place for Chicken and Waffles, But we start out with the black eyed pea fritters and cheesy dip. YUM! Chicken is a boneless breast seasoned and fried to perfection. Waffles come with Butter with Pecans in it and Syrup. We must got there every couple of months and they now know us know, that's nice. if you don't see chicken and waffles on the menu, ask, they will make it.

Not sure why it took us so long to get to Miss Delta. Perhaps partly some lack-luster reviews? I looked more closely and noticed improvement over time in that area. Also noticed favorable reviews from folks I respect. We arrived at 5 so we could partake of both happy hour and dinner. Fried okra was first rate - lightly breaded and not greasy. I had to go with fried chicken (dark meat, of course) and I'm glad I did. While not the best I've ever had, it was quite good. For sides I chose cole slaw and blackeyes. The slaw was quite tasty, if a bit heavily dressed. The blackeyes were a disappointment for both of us. There was a somewhat overwhelming herbal flavor - oregano, I think. Ronda also had fried oysters and collards off the happy hour menu. These were both excellent. Service was fine and atmosphere appealing. Both happy hour and dinner offerings are quite reasonably priced. I have my sights on some Miss Delta ribs for our planned return.

Personally, I'm a Ball fan. Kerr just doesn't do it for me. But the sweet tea they serve in big ole Kerr jars is good. I'd say second best in Portland for Southern style sweet tea. Overall the joint is modest, not too fancy, which is a nice change from some of the other restaurants in Portland that take themselves too seriously. The big bar right in the middle of the place is annoying. The quality of the food outweighs the need for a bar. I'd rather see more elbow room while you are dining than that pretentious thing. But their drinks are tasty and have fun names (a big plus). Food is great. Just plain ole good country-style cookin. I'd love to expound on this place more, but I can't get over their portioning. I'm pretty sure they use the lids from their Kerr jars (not wide-mouth jars mind you) to portion out their mashed potatoes. I think they think Yukon Gold potatoes actually have gold in them. Newsflash. They don't. According to the Bureau of Labor statistics potatoes, are you ready for this, cost less per pound than rice. Rice. Less per pound than rice. When you see the photos of their potatoes on Yelp it looks well portioned. Nope. Here is their cook's instructions as I imagine them on the wall above the mashed potato bin: 1. Scoop up some precious mashed potatoes (possibly seasoned with the spice from Dune?) with a small Kerr jar lid. 2. Scrape off the excess leaving a smooth surface. 3. Dollop it onto the plate. 4. Scoop up some gravy and use the bottom of the spoon to ream out the center of the mashed potato pile. 5. Ensure potatoes are stretched out as far as possible to make a ring. 6. Pour copious amounts of gravy in the ring of mashed potatoes to give the illusion of a large portion. 7. Deny any and all requests for more mashed potatoes. Potatoes are a precious commodity people! What? Do you think they just self propagate? That you can just cut up a potato and drop it in the ground and make 20 times the amount from one potato? Get real! No extra potatoes!!! Dear Miss Delta, The Great Famine was due to more than potatoes. In fact, the country of Ireland exported and had an ample amount of potatoes during the Great Famine. Don't let misinformation ruin your business. Yours truly.

For $7.50 you can get the heart attack special. It starts by taking the well-known culinary indulgences of the South like friend chicken, biscuits and gravy and putting it together with breakfast staples of bacon and eggs (slap on a slice of cheddar for good measure) to create a cholesterol behemoth known as the Southern Stack. Miss Delta is very charming as is the Mississippi District. So fucking charming you anticipate seeing a yuppie family perfectly coiffed, outfitted in Patagonia, pushing a jogging stroller with golden retriever in tow. But I digress... It's sinfully tasty, as you would anticipate, with fat accompany fat garnished with fat. You know it's something when the healthiest item in the dish is a fried egg. I dare you to find piece of vegetable matter in it

Best. Playlist. Ever! It was so good the cook was jammin' the whole time! I had to bounce in my seat too! The staff was very attentive. It was clean. We had a cozy table by the wall. The food, I feel mixed about. The greens and chicken and waffle were not great, but good. We had hush.puppies, I didn't care for though. They were out of corn bread which was disappointing. My hubby had the mac n cheese, he liked it. The happy hour menu is awesome. All in all I will definitely go back.

Really amazing food. Went there for dinner. I had the chicken fried steak and my friend had the catfish. Both of us are picky eaters and we both were in heaven. The coleslaw was bland, but I don't think that most people realize that coleslaw in the south is kind of bland. It's a great contrast to the spicy and flavorful entrees. But if you judge on its own, you will for sure be disappointed.

I've eaten here twice now, and I'm willing to give it one more chance. The food is okay to good, but not what I would hope for. The food here is more southern fusion than straight southern. The fried okra is great, but the blackeyed peas have an odd seasoning. My cornbread was very dry and hard. The second visit I tried the gumbo. I grew up in SE Louisiana, and I was rather disappointed. The roux was way too thick and heavy. Not what I expected. Service is friendly and the atmosphere is nice. In all, it's okay. I'll give them another chance.

i really have nothing but the best things to say about this joint. i've been here for brunch & dinner and they've never let me down. the meatloaf was seriously the best meatloaf i've ever had - it was crumbly, yet moist, and had bacon & mushrooms in it. soooo good! i'll be back - i always am.

Went here last night for my husbands birthday- it was our first time and we both agreed we will be back for sure. We got awesome, friendly service and great recommendations for our dinner choices. Hubby got the meat loaf which was probably the best we've had, mashed potatoes were unreal, mac and cheese was exactly how you want it to be, and the gumbo was awesome. The gumbo comes with cornbread which was served with sweet butter and honey. All in all, great experience, delicious food, friendly staff.

First off, props on the cleverly appropriate name, given that this is Mississippi Avenue and you're serving Southern food. I see what you did there, and I approve. Miss Delta has a nice selection of Southern plates, with an emphasis on New Orleans cuisine. It's located in one of those quintessential east side PDX buildings shaped like a shoebox: long and narrow, with brick walls and dim lighting. And blessedly, wasn't too crowded, even on a warm Saturday night during the prime dinner rush, when the streets were otherwise bustling. We walked right in and sat down, and the scruffy, bearded server (another Portland prerequisite) immediately lit the tiny candle on our table, adding to the ambience. So far, so good. We ordered cocktails and an appetizer of hush puppies. Service was prompt. Almost too prompt, as our meals arrived ahead of the appetizer, which our waiter had forgotten about. He apologized and rushed out a new order. Any complaint over the oversight was quickly forgotten as we dug in to our food. I ordered the fried chicken and opted for the dark meat 'cause that's how I roll. It was hot, crispy, juicy, and packed with flavor. Dinners come with a choice of two sides, and after much deliberation I opted for red beans and rice, and stewed tomatoes and okra. Both were outstanding. The red beans and rice were smoky and meaty, topped with shredded pork, while the stewed tomatoes added a nice tang to complement the okra. My fiance opted for the meatloaf, made with premium angus beef, and chose mac & cheese and collard greens on the side. Neither of us had ever tried collard greens before, and I've gotta say, even now - four days later - my mouth waters whenever I think of them. They were tender and intensely flavored, vinegary and salty and ever-so-slightly chewy. I actually think these were the star of the meal. The other dishes were fantastic, as well; the meatloaf was thick and flavorful, and the mac & cheese creamy and hot. And then the hush puppies arrived. By now we were almost too full to enjoy them, but we tried our best and weren't disappointed. Crispy on the outside, chewy on the inside, and dotted with diced jalapeno for a nice kick, they were served with a creamy chipotle-style dipping sauce that was at once cool and fiery. If you're looking for really good Southern food in a laid-back atmosphere where crowds don't seem to be an issue, stop by Miss Delta. You're pretty much guaranteed a good meal no matter what you order.

My first visit to Miss Delta was good, not great. I ordered a few appetizers, which were bland and not very interesting. Cocktails were good, though. Went back for some breakfast cocktails some months back and was charmed into some light brunch snacks by the waitress. I was soundly impressed this time! The breakfast was delicious! What made it even better was that while I was enjoying some spectacular food without having to wait for a table, I was watching the crowds across the street at Gravy, waiting hours for enormous plates of gravy-drenched, mediocre food. Went back to Miss Delta a few weeks ago, this time for the pork ribs. Holy monkey! Fell off the bone and tasted incredible. The sauce was amazing, which is saying a lot. The problem with most barbecue is that the meat loses its flavor after being smothered by too much sugary sweet sauce. Not the case here. The sauce was just slightly sweet and tangy, but not overpowering. And the service was fun and prompt. Good save, Miss Delta!

The fluffy, buttery, melt-in-your mouth biscuits earn a 5-star alone, but some of the other fare we sampled didn't quite meet the top of the cut, so I can't give Miss Delta a full-fledged 5-star review yet. Came for a no-wait brunch and ordered biscuits and sausage gravy, chicken fried steak, and eggs benedict. The collard greens and eggs were cooked to perfection on my benny, but I wasn't crazy about the Hollandaise sauce, and their house Miss Delta hot sauce doesn't taste much different than regular old Tabasco. Chicken fried steak was better than average but also nothing to write home about. Had a nice crispy crust on it though. Miss Delta serves belly-filling brunch fare that I'd happily return to, and not just do avoid the waits at Gravy.

Went back to give Miss Delta another chance. Food was good except the burger was completely drenched in ketchup i could barely pick it up. And it was very very loud. Service was good too. And I didn't get diarrhea this time!

Ate there 11/1/14. Pretty decent southern, but a little tiny bit over the top with some dishes in terms of simplicity, but purely just a personal opinion. The mac and cheese stuff is epic.

Very disappointing. Hush puppies were soggy and had no flavor, rest of the meal was uninspiring. Service was awful. Another party was seated after us, served and left before we'd even gotten our food. Our waitress seemed to dislike us. We've always enjoyed Miss Delta in the past, but won't go again.

Cheap pbr and southern food...what else are you really looking for? If your answer is anything different than "nothing", then you need to stop and re align your priorities. This place delivers quality southern food, good happy hour, and a nice selection of beverages. Staff is friendly but not invasive. I highly recommend.

I went last night to have a bite before watching a show at mississippi studios. My friends and i were delighted to discover you can order a 40oz of pbr delivered in a bucket of ice which went nicely with my bloody mary. we got an order of hush puppies and some fried okra which were delicious. i highly recommend their "trashy mac" of which i have had two varieties. the pesto and chicken is deeelicous. the atmosphere is awesome with exposed brick walls, wood floors, chandeliers and authentic looking New Orleans memorabilia. good times! thank you!

Ok second time eating here and came back because the food was awesome. I was going to eat in the restaurant but there were too many fruit flies flying all over and staff was taking turns swatting the bugs with a bug zapper. Taking my food home!

Finding ourselves on Mississippi just after 4:00 PM, tired after a busy day, and realizing we had not eaten since sometime before 9:00 AM, we checked out Miss Delta's HH menu. My husband saw the magic words, "po boy," and decided we needn't look any further. Always up for anything Cajun/Creole/Southern, I happily complied. We walked in and were told to sit anywhere we like. We chose a comfy table by the window where we got to watch PDX go by -- it was fluctuating between total rain squalls and lovely sun breaks -- while we perused the menu and unwound. Husband ordered the fried shrimp po boy. I believe, at first bite, his reaction went something like, "OMG! OMG! Oh, that's good! OMG!" It quickly disappeared. For my part, I went with the blackened chicken po boy. I can easily say it was the best blackened chicken I have had since I was in THE Mississippi a couple of years back. As I said in reaction to the blackened chicken I had there: Good blackened chicken (or blackened anything) should have a bite, yes, but it should be not so hot you burn your tongue; instead it should focus on the spice. The blackened chicken I had in Mississippi was like that; the blackened chicken I had at Miss Delta was like that, too. I also had a "side" of fried okra -- not greasy at all and coated in a beyond tasty, perfectly spiced, batter. My okra-eschewing husband would have none of it. So, I was forced to eat it all myself. Or, would have been forced, but there was so much of it, there is no way I could. (I have discovered, though, it reheats nicely.) A glass (ok, two) of lovely HH red (that somehow ended up being cheaper on our final tab than the menu indicated) rounded out my meal. Service was friendly. Our server checked in just often enough -- and you really got the feeling that she honestly cared if we were enjoying our food. When we got up to leave, my husband said, "I'd come back here." I'd come with him.

Been wanting to try this place for a while so the wife and I decided to hit up Miss Deltas for lunch on Valentines Day. I ordered the chicken fried steak and the wife had trashy mac n cheese w/ meatloaf plus we ordered a side of fried okra. Overall, I came to the conclusion that the food was good but not great. I would like to come back and try them for dinner...I was a little disappointed, i had high hopes for this place.

My first time going to Miss Delta the other evening was a wonderful experience. As a self proclaimed Cajun connoisseur, I don't know what took me so long to find this place. The food and atmosphere where great, and the wait was fast for a friday. The only reason I'm giving them 4 stars is because they had no cocktail choices with tequila (the waitress did accommodate my request for a Cajun margarita though, that was amazing!) and when we ordered hush puppies, there was only 5, while My #1 favorite Cajun restaurant offers more with a unique jalapeño jelly. On its own, I highly recommend Miss Delta, but there is always room for improvement. :)

I went here with a friend for the happy hour, which is 3-6pm on weekdays. It was a Tuesday around 4pm and there were only 2 other tables taken when we got there so it was nice to not have to wait. My friend is vegetarian and this place is VERY vegetarian friendly. You can even get chicken and waffles, but with tofu! I can't imagine that would taste the same...but to each their own. The server was friendly, but the food took a little long to come out considering there was only one other table that had ordered. I ordered a Miss Delta cocktail and it was STRONG! Delicious, but strong. I guess that's good considering it was $7 even during HH. Their drink menu is not extensive, but it's really creative and I had trouble deciding which one to get--I was driving so I had to limit myself.sad. I ordered the Fried Shrimp Po'Boy and it was fantastic. The baguette it was served on must have been coated with garlic olive oil, so it was like crunching on garlic bread alongside perfectly plump shrimp, tomatoes, lettuce, and pickles. I loved the tang of the pickles and the Miss Delta sauce is great. I added hot sauce, because I like it spicy, not because any extra flavor was needed. I'd say the only reason I wouldn't go back would be because the price isn't very college student friendly, but the food is well worth it.

Went in for brunch on a Saturday and there was no line, which is shocking considering the great quality and value of the food. I got the chicken-fried steak and my girlfriend got the chicken biscuit. Best chicken-fried steak I've had in Portland. The gravy was amazing. My home fries were cooked perfectly. My eggs were scrambled beautifully. The portion was huge and the price was 11 bucks. The service wasn't great, but average for Portland. I cant help but contrast this with a previous experience a Gravy, across the street. The lines are long. The worst chicken-fried steak I've ever had. Under-cooked home fries. Overall disappointment. Avoid Gravy, check out Miss Delta.

I recently took a girls trip to Portland and was lucky enough to find this gem!!!! I ordered the chicken and waffles and it was pure HEAVEN! The service was phenomenal...they treated our group of girls like locals! The decor was really cool too...different than any place ive been to where im from so I was all for it! I got a spicy bloody mary AND a cup of coffee (they serve Stumptown which I'd never had before, but am horribly jealous it doesnt exist in LA!) Love love love. I will definitely go back my next time in Portland!

Friendliest staff. The portions are big. The biscuits were a bit heavy and not super flavorful, and the gravy was kinda lumpy. But the fried chicken my friend ordered was crispy and flavorful.

Love love love Miss Delta. Their specialty drinks are out of control. I ordered my first ever bloody mary and have yet to find one that compares. It is huge, spicy, and with lots of peppers. They even opened a new jar of pepperocinis just to fill my request for extras. Moving on to the lemonade - it was delicious, ginormous & in a mason jar. The coffee was pretty great and came with a glass boot of creamer. It is quirks like this that makes Miss Delta a cut above the Portland rest.

You MUST order the jambalaya. 10/10!! Spicy, seafood goodness. I was sick the other day and eating this made me feel like my mom just gave me a big warm hug. And the cornbread. To die for. Don't leave without it!

This was a sweet brunch place my friend had taken me to. The Southern Stack. Yes, it's a stack, alright.

My family enjoyed our meal here tonight! Kids split the chicken strips. Hubby had the gumbo with a cup of smoked clam chowder. He loved it! I had the jambalaya and a cup of Mac & Cheese. The jambalaya was a *bit* too spicy for me. Admittedly, I'm a wuss in that department. But it was SO GOOD that I ate through the pain. My only complaints: 1) it took a long time (we weren't ignored, good food takes time, but my kids were tired); 2) The lighting was way too dim. The sun was set about part way through our time there & when we left my eyes were aching. I couldn't distinguish anything on my plate. Would very much visit again!

Great laid back atmosphere with very polite staff. Not a very big place so probably not good for parties of over 4 people. Food portions are fantastic and prices not bad for what you get. Tried the miss delta meats plate with Mac and cheese and red beans and rice, great flavor a in everything except pulled pork was a little hard and dry. Tried the chicken fried steak and that was definitely the best country fried steak I've had so far! Highly recommend that dish ! Will definitely go back to try more!

I'm a big connoisseur on the chicken fried steak and this place was hands down the best I've ever had. Corn bread was good, almost like it had a little bit of spice to it. Mac and cheese was decent. Definitely a come back place!!!! Service was amazing as well

The food here at Miss Delta is what brings me back every time. The pulled pork plate ($14) is my favorite which includes two hearty sides. The pulled pork is very tender & juicy. The side of BBQ sauce tastes great with the pork but one might think it's spicy. The two sides you should consider are the collard greens & mac 'n' cheese. I love collard greens & the way Miss Delta cooks up theirs reminds me why I love them so much. The cheese on the mac is thick & gooey but mild in flavor. I did try a bite of cheese grits but the texture of it didn't appeal to me; think hot oatmeal but with cheese. Miss Delta is great for groups but at the same time nice for a romantic dinner. The drinks are spot on & so is the service. This is my favorite place for southern food & hopefully you'll feel the same way once you try it.

*inserts sigh* Miss Delta's Miss Delta's... Oh how I've been waiting to review you!! First let me start off by saying that this will be my longest review that I've EVER done! I was so stoked to write a review about this place particularly because the buzz they get is like the last golden Willy Wonka ticket!! I just knew that it was going to be something to write home about! Sadly I think I was so amped that I didn't prepare myself for a flop! We came here early and chose the window seat (my preference), the ambience is laid back and a bit rustic so upon first glance we liked how we could see everything. Our order consisted of sweet tea that had such a deep tea flavor that I couldn't even finish it (it tasted like the tea bags had sat in the water for far too long) it was more like tea water with a dash of sugar. The lemonade was better and our oyster (snack) had a hard cornmeal batter that neither of us were feeling (needless to say they got thrown away)! His biscuits and gravy was mediocre at best, the ratio of gravy to biscuits was so off and like I've said before: when you can cook something better than a restaurant it's really hard to be in awe! I must say that the biscuits were the star of that dish though. His chicken fried steak was probably the best I've ever had, but I have never been a fan of those so that isn't saying much, also the home fries that they served with them would've been better if they were left off the plate! My Miss Delta's meats: pulled pork, brisket and baby back ribs and cornbread w/two sides: greens and Mac 'n cheese was just okay. The pulled pork had this vinegar taste that I wasn't understanding, the brisket lacked flavor, the baby back ribs were good and possibly my favorite thing of the day and the cornbread was just eh! Now with this highly talked about Mac 'n cheese dish I just knew it would be flawless... Wrong! This was just average too, I've experimented and made better Mac n cheese than this And last but not least the vinegar greens (which is how they should be labeled) were just basic and not at all memorable! We were so ready to go that we forgot dessert all together. I hope you guys who've never eaten here have a better experience than I did!! Happy Yelping...

Nice little restaurant/bar for some pretty good southern comfort food. A little bit on the pricier side, but the food quality and quantity at least reflected the cost. I've been missing Roscoe's lately, so I naturally had the chicken and waffles. Not the best version of the dish I've had, but way up there nonetheless. Particularly enjoyed the praline butter served with it.

Miss Delta is exactly 3.5 stars. The breakfast sandwich with collared greens, egg and okra is HUGE. It's slaughtered in gravy and was delicious at first bite. However, after a while, the gravy gets too salty and heavy. The leftovers were delicious but I seriously ate this massive sandwich over 2 meals and 1 snack. Guess you can't complain about the value you get for $12 though right?

I have had lunch here before and was fine. Tonight 45 minutes from the time dinner was served, cold, cremated and inedible. One meal sent back, two half eaten and one in a to go box. Done with miss delta

Came here for breakfast with a group of six, none of us had been here before so we had no idea what to expect. It was. AWESOME. Everything about it was just amazing. Food took awhile to come but we weren't in a hurry. Bloody Mary was spicy and delicious, don't even get me started on the food. Got chicken and waffles and it was ridiculously tasty. Others got mac and cheese, jambalaya, biscuit sandwich, and brisket. Everyone shared everything because all of us kept saying "holy shit you HAVE to try this!" Service was superb, very friendly staff. Definitely coming back.

Ah man Miss Delta! Unfortunately it's time to update my review just based on how horrible your customer service is. Yes, the food is amazing! That's probably why I choose to return despite having to deal with rude waitresses every time I'm here. Decided to give them another shot and took out of state family to this place and the service was just as sad as last time. Waitresses rolling their eyes and feeling clearly annoyed by us asking for recommendations or personal favorites.

Our first time here. It is has a nice vibe to it when entering. They have put some effort into the decor, which is something I love to check out when dining in different restaurants. It must come from my working days in the restaurant business. We got there in time for the HH which has a good selection of some of their best items. I already knew before coming that I was having the Chicken & Waffles, it was a matter of what else we would try. In addition we had, the Mixed Greens Salad, the Pork Spareribs and Corn Fritters. The salad was the normal mixed salad but with a few too much red onions. The fritters were a little light on the corn filling which made them a little doughy. The Pork Spareribs were smoky, saucy and came off the bone with ease. The star of the night was indeed the Chicken & Waffles. The chicken breast was large and had a great crunch and was juicy inside. The butter that came with the waffle was like a mix of bacon and maple flavor and was terrific. The gentleman sitting next to me had a breast on his C&W that was probably 10 oz. He mentioned that he could never walk by here with out stopping in for the C&W's. The service was attentive and on point. All in all a good experience.

Hmm, this place was really pretty good. The food was tasty but I don't think I would come back. You can only eat artery clogging, give you a heart attack at the table food only so often. That was really all that was available on the menu. I got the brisket sandwich and it was pretty dang good! My boyfriend got the chicken and waffles and he was in heaven! It's worth a try at least once :)

Well to start out, it took a long time to get some drinks in- not that large of a place so was a bit frustrating. The bartenders weren't personable and looked frustrated when asked for anything extra. Then after waiting for close to 45 min-1 hour they realized the kitchen forgot our food, which happens but you think they'd double check at some point. Things are reasonably priced but not too flavorful. Once it got a lil less crowded the personnel still seemed to have no interest in socializing with anyone but themselves. Our bartender Mckenzie just didn't seem into it, plenty of better places nearby

My husband and I came here on a whim (we were leaving an urgent care clinic just down the street and asked someone in the lobby where the best place to eat was in the area, since we haven't been around here before). Let me tell you, we WILL BE BACK! He got the Shrimp & Grits and his exact words were "This is in my top three favorite Shrimp and Grits plates I've ever had," which is saying something because he travels a lot and tries a lot of different places. I had the pulled pork plate with cheese grits and cole slaw, all of which was delicious! However, my favorite thing that was on my plate was actually the mac & cheese that our server accidentally brought me (and then he brought me a second bowl of the cheese grits that I ordered, which were also delicious). I would make the drive here just to get the mac & cheese. A whole container of it, if they would let me. It's so good! We also had hush puppies to start and they were the BEST hush puppies I've ever had. I could eat a whole box of those too-- and with the sauce they come with is to die for! For dessert, I had the peach cobbler with brown butter ice cream and my husband had the blackberry pie (which I believe was one of their specials), also with brown butter ice cream. My husband told me that he was going to divorce me and marry the ice cream. I told him, not if I divorce him and marry it first! The overall ambiance and decor of the restaurant was so homey, too. I felt so comfortable and happy. I'm about to go heat up the leftovers and I already want to go back and eat here.

This place has so much potential to be amazing because the ingredients and menu look awesome but the flavor is seriously lacking. We ordered the crispy frog legs, fried oyster po' boy and the pulled pork sandwich. The frog legs were good and came in a creamy tomato Cajun style sauce, but unfortunately the legs were swimming in them and there was no spoon or bread to soak up the sauce. It was just a waste. The two sandwiches both tasted as if they had about a cup of Morton salt poured on top. My friend couldn't eat more than a few bites of his ouster sandwich and felt bad complaining. I had to ask for a side of BBQ sauce to put on my pulled pork to mask the overly salty vinegar flavor of the pork. The way that the pork was cooked made it so you couldn't even identify that it was pork. I would have given two stars but the service was really great. I would give them another shot but maybe for breakfast or lunch. Hopefully I came on an off day.

I'm all about brunch, so I was excited when my friends and I chose this place to try out. I decided on the Southern Stack with fried chicken, bacon, cheddar cheese, fried egg, and sausage gravy. I also ordered the fried okra to test out. The fried okra was good, but too much of it and I was just feeling greasy. Now the sandwich on the other hand was amazing. The server told me I was going to need a box because the sandwich was huge. I wanted to prove him wrong and finish it, but no way in hell could I conquer that bad boy. It was perfect deliciousness and I'm excited to come back and try some of their other dishes.

Awesome spot for some great grub. We had the chicken and waffles plus the brisket. Chicken and waffles were pretty good and I'd definitely come back. Definitely better than being in line for a long time at Screen Door. Their praline butter was really good, the waffles were soft and not the hard version that you would get at times at other places. The brisket was really good, smoked and not dry. The biscuits was also damn tasty.

The food at Miss Delta is incredible to say the least. I have never had a bad meal there and my favorite dish is the gumbo. The staff is always so friendly and the cocktails are very good. And did I mention the deserts? They are soooo good! You can't go wrong with anything on the menu.

Chicken & waffles. Do yourself a favor when you go to Miss Delta. If chicken & waffles are on the menu, order it. No questions asked. Easily the best I've ever had, and the portion size was enough to feed a small village.

3 guys walk into a bar...I can't remember the rest but our meals were amazing and the drinks came in 32 oz glass mugs. Excellent food. Happy wonderful server. Great drinks. Great apps. Entrees perfect. You get a meal like that on a consistent basis at Miss Delta and you wonder why/how others can't do the same with their service and food quality. I've been gladly going to Miss Delta for many years and rarely go wrong. I'll finish the left overs eventually. So good.

This place was beyond amazing. The bar staff was friendly knowledgable and fast! My girlfriend and I sat at the bar, I had an IPA based on my bartenders recommendations and was not disappointed. We ordered biscuits and gravy collards and cornbread. She ordered fried chicken and Mac and cheese. It was delicious! Best greens I've had since moving out here from Florida. The Mac and cheese was perfect as well! The chicken wasn't as good as grandmas but it was still good. The biscuits and gravy were amazing! All in all I can't wait to come back here and avoid the lines At some of the seemingly more popular places nearby (gravy I'm looking at you) we were able to sit immediately.

Oh my g*damn. New favorite brunch spot for sure. Get on the list early - the wait can be long, but so worth it! The biscuits are amazing. I saw someone else order the cornbread, and I'm already ready to go back and order that. Friendly service, looked like great drinks & lunch offerings as well. Their pulled pork was awesome!

Not impressed. At all. Went here around 5:30pm for dinner on a Tuesday night. Was told the wait would be 30 min. Ended up waiting an hour. Outside. I asked if we could hang out inside and grab a drink at the bar. I was told no. It was too crowded and we were told to stand outside. The étouffée was totally bland. I actually returned the dish and got the po' boy sandwich. It was okay. The red beans and rice was done well. I liked the pulled pork in it. The hush puppies were bland. I just was not impressed and probably won't be back. PS..I went here on Fat Tuesday and the lady at the front had no clue about the parade and no one in there was celebrating. It was weird.

OMG, they do breakfast so good here. I had a huge biscuit and gravy and I can probably say it was the best I've had in PDX. Huge amount too. I took half home. We got in around 930AM during the week and were seated immediately. We got in just before a rush though. If you are coming, come early-ish. I feel compelled to go back for dinner next.

I'm sorry, it just didn't cut it for me. I was expecting something amazing and some amazing Mac and cheese since I saw that's one thing they were known for, but it just didn't work for me. It was pretty runny, pale, and the flavor just wasn't there. Their service was super slow as well when it was a pretty light evening for them. I did like their cornbread, super moist, but overall, I don't think I'd go back there. I'll go to Screen Door instead.

Updating this review bc I am now a full fledged omnivore. Miss Delta Burger, rare, topped with pulled pork and blue cheese, no bun, side salad. $12 * truly delicious. I could eat this again and again. Watch out for the crowds as this place seemed to fill up fairly quickly. Service was attentive and thorough. Our meal was presented with actual good spirits. I liked the vibe, it has energy, isn't too pretentious and is a few doors down from Crow Bar. Combo-ing the two, (as I did) and that's a good night, dear readers, a very good night. No DD needed if you live nearby. Total unequivocal, unambiguous thumbs up. (And if you are reading this AFTER my comments on Crow Bar, I feel I can still state that the condition my condition was in, did not affect my tastebuds unduly. It was a complete, around the table thumbs up.)

Um. YUM? Seriously. YUM. Fried chicken po' boy pretty much overflowing with delicious, perfectly fried, crispy on the outside juicy on the inside, white meat chicken, a delicious salad of greens and veggies with thick, creamy, delicious, homemade bleu cheese dressing, a big ole' mason jar filled with sweet tea and oh yes, I was one happy camper. Can't wait to go back for the rest of the menu. Thanks for the delicious lunch and great customer service, Miss Delta!

This place has been booked marked forevah! Finally gave it a go for lunch yesterday. The menu has all the traditional southern faire and I went with a biscuit sandwich with fried chicken. I had a hard time with the menu and didn't realize the sandwich came with an egg and bacon. Needless to say it was a ton of food! The flavors were good and the chicken was done well but it had a ton of dough compared to chicken and it could have used a lot more gravy. Now a huge pet peeve of mine is soggy bacon and that is what I got, it wasn't done all the way, and the fat was looking mighty raw. It was the day after NYE so maybe things were off. I'd go back.

Been here about a half dozen times and every time it is amazing. Didn't have to wait today but have a couple times in the past. Usually get the oyster Po'boy or anything with gravy. The chicken n waffle was pretty damn good. Love this place way more than Gravy across the street. Also they are not messing around when it comes to boozy brunch. Always get drinks here and today's huge shot of Jameson with a 40 of Pabst to follow was great. Wish I could go more often

This is my go-to spot on Mississippi Street. I've probably been here at least 10 times. Whatever I order is always delicious. I can vouch for the trashy mac, meatloaf, brisket sandwich, brisket, fried chicken, chicken fried steak, and probably other entrees I am forgetting. Often places like Miss Delta have great meats, but the side dishes are disappointing. That's not the case at all at Miss Delta. I always get their macaroni and cheese, but the rest of the sides are good too. Their seasonal sides are exceptional as well. I think my wife could eat their clam chowder all day. Service is usually pretty average, even by Portland standards. And one time it took me 15 minutes to get my bill, even though the restaurant was almost completely empty. It was so bad I emailed the owners about it (never heard back). But the food is so good I keep coming back. One minor suggestion: perhaps put the meatloaf of the day on the chalkboard next to all the other specials.

Very good representation of Southern cooking at it's country best. And, I am a pretty hard sell on such things. I am giving this place 4 initial stars because the brisket was pretty dry (but still tasty). Still, this place handily kicks The Screen Door's bee-hind into next week. Overall, the selections were vast and came in hearty portions. The mac and cheese and hush puppies were very good! But the real winner, and ultimate test of whether it's real Southern or not, was the red beans & rice. By golly, they are the real deal. Incredible and authentic, thank you very much! Also, the bar is well stocked and the staff are very friendly. Will be going back and hopefully I can change this to a five star review.

Oh Miss Delta. One of my favorite places to eat in general, let alone for Cajun food. This place is small, but the food is stellar. I'd like to say I'm a catfish connoisseur, and let me tell you, MD knows what they're doing with their blackened catfish. Pair it with the mac n cheese and red beans and rice, and wow! You'll get the perfect amount of spice and creaminess that'll leave you wanting more even when you're full. Haven't tried their drinks yet, but that'll be for next time. I recommend going on a Friday or Saturday night - I like the cook better on those nights.

Wow! My fiance got a recommendation from his barber to check this spot out while we were on Mississippi. I am so glad we listened! This street offers so many dinner options, and walking north on Mississippi, we almost stopped at a Thai place, but then saw a sushi place, then a mac and cheese place, and we felt our lack of information would lead us down a lame dinner. However, we were so happy and surprised with Miss Delta. Walking in around 8pm, the place was fairly empty. Normally a bad sign, however as soon as we were seated the joint filled up quickly. The service was top notch. We had drinks and food fairly quickly, but it wasn't a overbearing type of service. She made some good recommendations and worked with my fiance's dairy intolerance. He ordered the pulled pork entree with collared greens and rice and beans. The pulled pork had a sweet and tangy sauce that I loved. I'm a sucker for collared beans, and these were the best I have had. I wish I had ordered a separate side of them. I didn't try his rice and beans, because he was giving me the death glare, and I know better then to reach across the table for his plate when he gets that look in his eye. I had the fried chicken (white meat) with macaroni and the seasonal green beans with bacon. Holy cow, it was a lot of food! First off, the chicken is amazing. Just out of this world, juicy, but with lots of crunch and flavor. I don't normally order macaroni, butt the waitress said it was tasty, and oh, it was. Creamy, cheesy, not too salty or oily. Finally the greens with bacon had a LOT of bacon, so you definitely get your value here! I couldn't eat everything, so it made for a great lunch the next day. To top it off, with 3 drinks our bill was under $40. Not bad at all! We really want to try the brunch, and will come back.

Smokey goodness. I had the wonderful brisket with the mac n cheese and collared greens. I will pass on the Mac next time and try something else. The brisket and greens were a 10! My two friends visiting from out if town also enjoyed their dishes; ribs and jambalaya. The Sazerac was very good. I've been told the VooDoo Tea is also very good.

This was my first time here and I thought the food and service were very good. It was super hot inside, they may want to invest in an air conditioner. We started off with the hush puppies, they were very tasty and big. For dinner I tried their crab cakes with slaw and a side of Mac and Cheese both things tasted great. I will be back but not until the weather cools off, restaurant is too hot, everyone was fanning themselves.

Miss Delta is an often overlooked destination on Mississippi, which is a shame because it has a lot of good things going for it. It is located directly across the street from Gravy which may have something to do with it, but on more than one occasion I've gone here for brunch when I didn't feel like waiting across the street and been pleasantly surprised. Miss Delta serves southern comfort food, including items like fired chicken, ribs, pulled pork, as well as sides of collard greens, corn, mac n cheese, cornbread. I haven't had anything I really disliked here but some things are definitely better than others. Their mac n cheese is amazing and one of my favorites in portland, especially the gumbo mac n cheese or trashy mac. It is super creamy and rich, and very well seasoned. For brunch, their chicken and waffles is a good option. I've had better but it is definitely good. My favorite brunch item is probably the biscuit sandwich with fried chicken, cheese bacon, covered in gravy. It's great if you don't want do anything for the whole rest of your day except sit in a shadow of self doubt and loathing. I've never had the pine state biscuit version of this so I don't have a comparison, but it was excellent nonetheless.

My boyfriend LOVES Miss Delta. I really like it too, but its because of him that we go so often. I usually get the brisket sandwich and its always amazing, the melted cheese and the onion ring really take it to the next level...my BF like the jumbalaya and the pulled pork. I also reallyyyyy love their lemonade! The service is always on par and everyone is super friendly. We had their blueberry cobbler last time too and it was amazing.

Today, my life has changed. Have you ever experienced a moment in time so profound and original that when it ends, you find yourself still sitting within it? A perspective so significant that it has the capability to create within you an entirely new reality? As though what you thought to be a temporary vacation in bliss had become a permenant stay? Such is the experience of Ms. Delta's chicken fried chicken. Our feathery-haired server, introducing himself as Johnny, sang the words, "this magic moment..." as we took our first bites of these angelic creations. The lyrics repeated in my mind with every following bite, and soon I realized that this simple recognition could apply to other aspects of my life--that to have your health is to be so blessed--that happiness can be found within the darkest corridors of one's short journey through this brief period of history. Thank you Johnny. Thank you, nameless chefs with the magic hands. Thank you, Ms. Delta.

Miss Delta filled my group of 5 with some necessary carby goodness before a bar crawl Saturday night. We stopped in about 7:40 and we were seated by 8, which is not too shabby for a busy night. 3 of us opted for the Trashy Mac with gumbo, which is really the epitome of comfort food and made even better leftovers post-drinking. The other two went with catfish, original mac, and coleslaw plates, which they said were great. Miss Delta's cornbread is not my favorite but my friends really enjoyed it, so the table as a whole was pretty happy. They have an interesting drink menu full of southern concoctions that look like they have summer written all over them. One of my friends had the bartender make her an off-menu drink with gin, St. Germaine, and lemonade that looked pretty envy-worthy. I opted for my normal Elijah Craig and ginger. We took our time with dinner, catching up. We were there about 2 hours and the staff never pushed us to hurry, which I appreciate. I will definitely make a return visit soon.

It was good. Not 100% sure I'll be back, but it was a nice atmosphere and good food. Prices weren't sky high. Cornbread was fantastic. s

Born an raised in Louisiana and this place gets it! The atmosphere is great, but more importantly the food was very close to some of the better establishments back in Louisiana. Just GO! Try it....you won't be disappointed!

After waiting 70 minutes at for Gravy to find us a table, we opted for Miss Delta! We're a fan of their other location, so we figured we'd give it a shot. Glad we did, as the entire table ordered Bloody Marys and Chicken Fried Steak. Quick service, friendly staff, well made drinks and tasty food left us all feelin' fat and sassy! Nearby tables had the chicken and waffles which looked and smelled delicious. New reason to come back and visit! We were promptly greeted and sat. Ambiance was nice, open and airy. Staff super courteous and attentive. Nice buzz in the place, but not so much you couldn't carry on a conversation. I look forward to my next experience at Miss Delta!!!

Visiting Portland for work and looking for a good place to have a late dinner. I was pleasantly surprised I found this place. Went with a coworker and we ordered a storm. Tried their version of a Moscow mule, which is tastes great and refreshing. We order hush puppies and fried oysters to start. Oysters were fresh and the sauce for the hush puppies tasted great with them. We split an order of the fried chicken and the bbq sampler plate, with the sausage added. The fried chicken was nice and crunchy. The bbq sauce was sweet, which I like. The Mac and cheese, collard greens, grits, and black eyed peas...all good. I think I made a good choose in coming here.

After that last disappointment incident @ Clay's, I was looking for a better experience someplace else and we happened to be in the Mississippi area when we saw Miss Delta by Mr. Green Beans. Right across from another restaurant we ate a few months ago! In their menu, they only one brisket to choice from, instead of ribs I ordered fried chicken with side dish of salad & fries but it came with very small (dipping size cup) of coleslaw which to me tasted like my Honey Mustard Dressing. The French Fries dipping sauce that came was too hot for me, so I asked for the same size container to dip my fries using ketchup. My large portion of dark meat chicken plus my salad & fries took the extra space I had, and didn't have room for ketchup! LOL My husband liked the fries dipping sauce! The Tillamook cheese hamburger that my husband had, had a unique flavor that is worth stopping by & trying out. It came with salad and coleslaw. As I was heading to the bathroom, I smell in the hallway, like PEE!?! I went there just to wash my hand, so I wasn't sure where the smell was coming from, but it wasn't from the bathroom. Other than that, the food was awesome, and we will go back!

I had a nice meal here with a work mate. Abita Turbo Dog on draft and the special of the day: BLT Chicken Sandwhich with a side of Collard Greens. I thought the portion was huge and needed a doggy bag. We sat at the bar and the initial greeting was a little weird, but they were busy, one girl was able to provide water then didn't say much else, so another server took over. After we placed food order, everything was prompt and pleasant. I thought the sandwhich had great flavor, a good amount of spice. It was a little messy and goopy, but the flavor kicked! I will occasionally pop in here to have a pint of Lucille - Love that IPA. The place is a corridor style set up seating at the bar and tables surrounding. My bar stool was wobbly, but I didn't mind. Brick wall and some art add charm to the Miss Delta.

I thought jambalaya was supposed to have more things in it beside rice and sauce. I think I saw three small piece of sausage and four small pieces of green onion on top of the dish. The mule drink a friend had was just as bad. Taste like sweet & sour sauce not real lime juice. Might come back to give a second try. Today was a crazy day but not that bad for the food to be bad.

Usually crawfish étouffée has 20 to 30 crawfish tails but these people put three ENTIRE crawfish and that's all. What a joke! And their peach cobbler was peaches in syrup and sugar with no breeding. Nasty. The she crab soup was great, but the étouffée isn't worth $1, let alone $15, and the cobbles is only good for the trash can. Stay away from this place. ZERO STARS

We went to Miss Delta last night for a family meal. The food is absolutely amazing and very authentic. It took us right back to the south. Only the service.... It is absolutely dreadful. No hospitality what so ever. Our waitress and one other lady that was working the shift where so rude.. rude.. rude... No greeting. No smile. No recommendations. Just chop chop - minimum service only. My daughter had to search the restaurant for a booster seat because the waitress didn't even bother to offer one. No chalk for the kids for the tables. Might have been too much work for the waitress to clean up afterwards. When she brought the food she dropped a spoon for a kids meal and didn't even replaced it. We had to call her back and ask. After the meal we asked for to go boxes and she only brought us some for half of our party- no paper bags. We had to go up to the counter and ask. The last gave us one paper bag for 4 boxes - ridiculous. My husband asked for a peach cobbler to go. The waitress declined and rolled her eyes when she left. I would never allow my staff to treat my customers like that. My advise to the management: your place is not reaching full potential due to poor front service. Either re train il your staff of fire them. I am not sure if I would go back. The bad service definitely spoiled a nice planned evening.

I'm not sure why this spot only has 3.5 stars. The food was awesome!! We ordered the chicken and waffle and the southern stack with fried chicken, subbed for mushroom gravy. The chicken and waffle was the best I've had in Portland. Tender chicken with a yummy crispy fries outside. The southern stack was yummmy , the biscuits were a let down but overall great. I was thinking of giving this place a 4 star because it is not the cleanest. There were flys flying around inside but the food was great so went with 5.

We stumbled on this place and it was fantastic. The sweet tea was addictive. Plus, the waiter have me a special refill even though they normally charge. Appreciated the service. We had hush puppies and the brisket plate and Mac and cheese. Please don't miss this southern comfort food gem.

This is one of our few favorite goto places. The worst part is trying to figure out what to get. We have not been disappointed yet and have tried nearly everything on the menu. One of my favorites is the smoked pork chop absolutely the best.

I really love this place. The breakfast blows me away. I believe it was called the grand slam? It speaks to my inner fat girl and shuts her up. We have dinner here quite often. The ribs are amazing. The collards are on point and the corn bread is the best I've ever had.

If you don't feel like waiting in line for Gravy across the street, Miss Delta is consistently a great option for Sunday brunch, especially if what you're looking for is an overwhelming feeling of euphoria in your mouth, followed by your stomach. Every time I leave, about the only thing I can say is UUUGH. But in the best way possible. The food is perfectly fried, smoked or grilled, depending on what you've been craving since 11:30 the night before (usually fried chicken for me, but today was a good day for pulled pork). This is the best Southern comfort food the North West USA has to offer. And don't get me started on the biscuits. They warrant a five-star review of their own. The atmosphere is great; brick walls, old photographs and a big old wooden bar (that isn't sticky). Service is always excellent, and they serve some magical blend of Stumptown Coffee that tastes as if it were brewed in the Andes mountains 1,000 years ago, teleported 1,015 years into the future, and poured into my mouth. So if you're looking for a big honkin' plate of southern comfort food after a night of heavy drinking, or even of Netflix and light drinking, I cannot recommend Miss Delta enough.

Pulled pork, Mac and cheese, collard greens... YUM. Cute atmosphere and nice staff here on my first visit. There are a good amount of people in here for late lunch on a Monday.

Its good breakfast food when you can't get into Gravy's across the street but the customer is not the best. The guy is awesome but the girl waitress is...lets just say not the nicest. The chicken waffles are okay, the chicken is always fried dark and the food doesn't come consistent. Meaning one week I can go then & its hot and good...the next time its not. The prices are good though...drinks are on the pricey side. Overall good alternative
