No mathematical genius required here: getting off the bus and walking right into Mio Sushi adds up to a chance for a good meal. I didn't have any sushi, which might not compute, but that just statistically ups the chances I will return for some in the future. Because I've been on a chicken and rice kick, I chose to have the chicken teriyaki plate which included excellent miso soup and a cold crisp Iceberg lettuce salad with a nice tart orangey dressing. There was a generous portion of chicken and rice, so l was all set, and I thought the amount and quality of the food was healthy and really a good bang for my buck. Service was cheerful, quick, and responsive. I am not a chopsticks user (this is due to the fact I have no manual dexterity with these instruments and have managed to fling food on people without meaning to; don't ask what I've done with bowling balls). ANYHOW, I was provided a fork without asking for it, and I know the Portland dining public can only be grateful. Mio Sushi is immaculately clean throughout. There are lots of windows and good light, a very welcome thing in Oregon winters, and the decor is bright and cheerful as well. All in all, this is a dining experience that adds up in every way where you will get an A grade for your efforts to find a great place to eat!

Mio is my new favorite sushi place! They have friendly and fast service, yummy sake, delicious and fresh sushi, no long lines, and a clean environment.

I like Mio Sushi for it's convenient location right next to my gym. It is a great place to grab some quick healthy food. Their nigiri is really good. I am not crazy for their specialty rolls, though. The fish is fresh and the service has always been friendly. Yes, it is a chain and yes, you can get better sushi in Portland but for the price and the convenience, continue to return to Mio Sushi.

My experience at Mio was mediocre at best but I will start with the positives: Mio has a great happy hour. Large Japanese beer for 4 dollars and some quite complex rolls for 6 or 7 bucks. Their sashimi is fresh and Good quality. The servers were friendly but took forever to give us our check. And now for the bad... The rolls that I had that contained fried components were obviously old because there was no crunch and one of the rolls even tasted like it had been in the refrigerator. Sushi rice should be slightly warm and it was flat out cold. Our spicy tuna roll was so fishy it was inedible and I am not one to ever leave sushi uneaten! The miso soup was overly salty and the eel sauce was outrageously sweet - so sweet that I could not taste anything else in the roll. I will probably never return to Mio because I was utterly disappointed. If it were not happy hour when I went and I had paid full price, I would have given them one star.

I am not an avid sushi eater as I am growing in my experience with sushi and raw fish. I have tried numerous places and just had a hankering for sushi. We made a quick stop and decided to visit Mio Sushi. It was an A+ stellar sushi. I had the COCO. Delish, full of flavor and just could eat it all day. The variety is definitely more than enough and you could have something for everyone. It was more than reasonably priced and very well put together.

One of my favorite sushi spots in PDX. The staff is awesome and the fish is always fresh!

One word: GROOOSSSS!!!! I gave 2 stars because the service was actually alright. They were trying. The food was awful. After dinner my bf and I looked at each other and concluded that it was by far THE WORST sushi we've ever had. The fish was super fishy, the spider roll tasted downright strange, and the flavored were overall lacking. Really all I need to say is bad sushi, and you get the point. Don't eat here.

I'm a teriyaki fan, and their bento combo lunch is among the best. The sauce is a deep, rich soy, but not one-note like some other places. And the chicken is nicely char-grilled. I also ordered a stir-fry chicken dish that was flavorful and spicy. And the prices are remarkably low for a Japanese restaurant. My only gripe is that both times I went there for lunch it took 40 minutes to get served. And the place was maybe 25 percent full. So not a good choice if you're on your lunch hour.

Been here many times. Finally decided to express my frustration with this mio sushi location. My favorite sushi roll is the OREGON roll. Really good. Love the way they wrap the salmon around the outside of the roll. Gyoza ... Always tastes like it wasnfrozen for a few weeks before they finally heated it up for serving in the restaurant. The big problem with this Mio Sushi location is the really slow service. Seems like they just don't hire enough wait-people. Slow service, big problem. The ambience just isn't nice enough to make it worth the wait. We do occasionally order dinner to-go. After all, this is the lessor expensive sushi (not the least expensive sushi) and the kids seem to like the food. To-go orders are consistently handled efficiently. Slow service! Ouch.

I've had sushi from all over the country and I'll admit, I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of sushi on the east-side of Portland. Pros: Price (I paid 12 bucks for 13 large sized pieces, and I'm a big guy - I was beyond full after 11). Flavor - double crunch had that sweet deep-friend orange flavorness to it. California roll was good and the Portland and Oregon rolls sounded absolutely outstanding. My friend got the spider roll and I swear there was a real spider in there haha. Cons: Service..our waitress was nice but after I ordered she immediately tells me "even though I say 5 pieces...it's the same size as the 8"...really? Is this a game show where I just got the wrong answer? Thanks miss... Bathroom was clean (I'm a stickler for that) but the overall decor had more of a Portland vibe then Asian thing which is fine by me. All in all, a decent expierence.

While I have gone to several of the Mio locations, this one is pretty close to my house and doesn't have the wait that the pearl and NW location have on weekends. On average, service has been fairly good with some servers being better than others. In terms of food, Mio is my goto sushi place because they have the best bento box ever. It comes with miso soup, goyza, salad, and two entree choices (I always get tempura and teriyaki). You get a ton of food and it is all really yummy, I always walk out stuffed wishing I would have saved half. Friends that have joined me have liked the sushi and overall I would say this is a good option when you have both sushi eaters and non sushi eaters in your group.

I've been going to this Mio Sushi location semi-frequently lately, as one of my friends lives close by. We're always quick to get a table here, and at night the atmosphere of the restaurant is quite pleasant. The staff is incredibly friendly, as others have mentioned. But this isn't what I love about Mio Sushi. What I love about Mio Sushi is their vegetarian yakisoba bento box. I can spend $9.95 for a large bento box that has vegetarian yakisoba, vegetable rolls, a salad, and rice, and for that amount of money it's enough food for both my girlfriend and I to feel like we've eaten a good and healthy amount of food. When we just get sushi we tend to spend less than $14 for the two of us to feel well-fed. If you're vegetarian, or just not feeling like fish, Mio Sushi is a great place to pick up food.

Mio is ok. It's down the street and next to the gym, so I go there when I am craving sushi and feeling lazy. I love raw fish. I have a fear of mayo and I've never tried their "sushi pizza". I normally get sashimi, miso soup and tempura. Sometimes I get sashimi to go and I am dazzled by the delicious fresh fish. Other times, I've had a bite and spit it out, because the texture is suspicious. Sometimes the cuts are buttery and delicious, other times it's mostly connective tissue and strange. I'm confused by people who "love" mio sushi. I've been to other locations, it's not all that. If it weren't down the street, I wouldn't go. I think if you want authentic Japanese, you should go to Hillsboro. Or go to Sinju and have super white tuna.

I like Mio Sushi; it's close to home, right next door to my gym, the service is friendly and welcoming, and the food is usually just fine. I really like their miso soup and their seaweed salad (a bit pricy, but yummy), and their sushi is mostly quite good. I am a regular customer. A couple of times, I have gotten one type of fish that was a bit less than fresh, and once, a fancy roll I ordered was not made according to the way the menu described it. Except for those occasions, I have found dining at Mio a pleasure. I hope to visit again to try their Happy Hour menu sometime soon.

I was starving after working out next door so stopped in for lunch, usually when you are as hungry as I was everything tastes even better but the fried sushi made me feel sickly, no crunch at all on the "crunch" and the "Mt. Raineer" , I believe it was called was slimy like textured. It felt like ten years was taken off my life waiting for them to make my food too and there were 2 people working on it hmm..... While I was waiting a kid came in to use their bathroom, he seemed desperate and she made him buy a soda to use it??!! I wont go back!

Went around 8:30 on a Wednesday night. no probs sitting at the sushi bar (which I prefer). The service was fast and friendly and the fish was excellent! the prices were decent, too. Went with my bro who hadn't had much experience with sushi and he gobbled it down...a bit too fast I think. Will go back again and possibly expand on this review.

Not bad, they've got a good selection of stuff on the menu. Didn't have to wait for a table, but service and food was a little slow. Can't really blame em too much, there was a lot of people getting to go food. (argghh). I'd definitely go back!

This place is terrible. I will never go back there. I literally had rotten fish served to me. Hamachi should not smell like rotten fish and should not be so ghastly slimy that you have to spit it out. I have been to numerous sushi places nation-wide, but this is the worse food I have ever had. Must be this location, because the NW location is pretty good.

I've been to mio sushi a dozen times and i have yet to be disappointed. usually i get a sushi combo for lunch or dinner to go but today i took my babe and sweetie out for lunch and we got a couple of the bento combos. holy hell! not only was the presentation beautiful , the bento boxes were jut so adorable, but the flavors were divine. i ordered the "california roll, tempura, gyozo, salad, miso, and rice combo and my sweetie got a teriaky salmon, tempura, gyozo, salad, miso and rice combo. I have no idea what they put in the salad but it was amazing. the dressing was orange and i was afraid at first but upon first bike it was like an oralgasm. it was tangy and sweet and yet slightly spicy and everything i love. the lettuce was crisp and the veggies were so fresh. the tempura was hot and crisp and it included shrimp, yam, squash, asparagus and more. they gave us a sweet tempura sauce to dip it in which was great as well. i usually like gyozo steamed and they fried theirs but i was not disappointed. it was lovely. the miso and rice was great as well. not my favorite miso but i did not hesitate to scarf it down. the califonia rolls were perfect and accompanied a heaping pile of ginger, yum! my sweeties teriyake salmon was freaking amazing! the salmon was grilled to perfection and drenched in a sweet teriyake sauce. OMG! i definitely sneaked more than my fare share off his plate. i will be coming here more often for dates to sample all the different bento combos and perhaps their selection of sake and Japanese beers. i would also like to give a shout out to the woman that's always working there. you rock! your attentive and kind and always chipper and friendly. your doing food service right!

The food was good. Service was really lacking. Friday night 7:30 and the two ladies working were clearly overwhelmed. Took them 5 minutes to seat us thinking we were there for takeout. Seated us at a table that wasn't cleared yet. The table seated after us got their edamame and drinks before we got our menus. We got our food eventually and realized table didn't have soy sauce. Just an overall bad experience in service.

I live within walking distance of Mio Sushi and have been going there almost once per week since February. I tend to stick with some of the basics off their a la carte menu, including maki with salmon/tuna/crab/unagi. By sticking with these simple foods, I focus on the taste and quality of the fish. Mio Sushi has always impressed me with their quality and their prices are very reasonable, though not cheap. I am always welcomed and treated very well when I go there. There have been a few times I've caught them during a busy time, and the staff is clearly overwhelmed. Drop by for an early lunch or dinner and I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Love the sushi here. It is always fresh and tasty and the wait staff is so friendly. I have tried various sushi rolls there and have yet to be disappointed. Definitely a great place to go for sushi at a relatively decent price.

Mediocre sushi, extremely slow service. The seaweed salad was good but the portion was tiny for the money. The seaweed in the salad amounted to about two tablespoons, with the rest taken up by cucumber. The udon noodle soup was average. My search for good sushi in a not-superfancy place in Portland continues.

Mediocre and hit-and-miss. Some of the nagiri we ordered was good, some flat. The rolls were similar to the kind you can find in any supermarket. Coming here was a real disappointment.

Listen, I will give almost any sushi a pass so long as it doesn't get me sick. This place barely makes the 2 stars only because we didn't actually get sick, but we did feel incredibly ill after we left. Mio is one of those chains that you usually find something decent to eat. This place is the exception I guess. It had this disgusting antiseptic smell to it and the fish all looked like it had been sitting out too long. My one friend is a vegetarian and her sushi received a passing grade. The two of us who ordered the fish couldn't even finish our orders because it was just not good. I really recommend passing on by this place.

I love Mio Sushi, it's very fresh and tasty. I love the quality food and friendly staff at this location where food and services are very good and consistent. Totally recommended this place.

The Mio locations over by me in Beaverton have waaaaay better service but it is hard to get me to lower my stars just because all Mio locations have my favorite sashimi salads and double crunch roll. I think they just might use crack as their secret ingredient because seriously, their food is freaking addicting. The service here though really is not great - the few times our server actually checked on us she just seemed pretty complacent. The location itself felt a bit weird - I know it is a new area and add but it just feels sort of off the beaten path or something.

You know, I came to this place not having very high expectations, but I will say this is a little bit of a hidden gem of a sushi place in the Hollywood area. Very convenient location (next to a gym) so you can grab a bite after your workout and not feel guilty. There is quite a large selection of sushi rolls to choose from and they are very well made. Some of the more upwardly priced rolls can set you back about $12-15 or so, but I would say they are worth it. I am not sure how busy this place gets, as I went in the evening on a week night, but given the fact that it is close to Providence Office Park I would say that lunchtime probably gets a little crazy. Nice setup inside and you can choose to sit either at the sushi bar or get yourself a table. I recommend this place if you're in the Hollywood area and are hungry for some sushi and don't feel like driving downtown or to the other side of town to get some.

Pleasant service, if somewhat spacy... Yellowtail collar had almost no meat on it, and the daikon served with it was slimy, but bento was a good size. We went because it was close to 24-Hour Fitness. There were lots of fruit flies.

  • Lindsey R.

This place is right next to the 24H Fitness that I go to and I've always wanted to try it out after a workout. Today I had a day of errands ahead of me, so I got a roll (the Mio Roll) and a seaweed salad to go. The salad was delicious, but the roll was woefully mediocre. it lost on all counts -- texture, taste (the rice was way sweeter than I was expecting), and it was somewhere between room temperature and warm which was...weird. Maybe I've got to stop getting take-out? :(

Not bad for an inland sushi chain. Can't say I was blown away but definitely good sushi for the price.

I like this place. And it's the first sushi place I've hit up here. Huzzah! So, yes. There are much fancier sushi places to hit. But that's the thing with me, I don't really like fancy. Because, don't get me wrong, higher quality fish (food) will always mean better flavor, but it means nothing to me if I am preoccupied with thinking about if I am eating it right, or if I am aware the whole time of how hard it's going to hit my wallet. So in comes this place. Nice, good quality sushi for the price. Good variety of rolls, nice choice of non sushi items, and to top it off, one the nicest waitresses I've ever had. I went with family, and while some of us chowed down on rolls, it was nice to see that for once, the non-sushi eaters were pleased with their meals too. The kids bentos actually have a pretty good portion to them, and nothing beats the fact that the waitress kindly presented my 4yr old little bro with those "easy" chopsticks, and how his face lit up when he was able to pick up rice with them. The waitress congratulated him, and he used them for the ENTIRE meal. I was also informed by my mom that the tempura and salmon teriyaki where very good (and she's PICK-AY). The feeling and decor inside the place is nice, and cozy, and chill, kind of like a quaint spa. Maybe it was the paint? I cant really put my finger on it, but we ate slowly, and calmly, and chatted, and really just, enjoyed our meal time, not just the meal. I will be back, and totally not mind that I have not dropped half a paycheck on it.

An old pal said he knew about a great new nearby sushi place, and you can count on your friends, right? Well...this guy might be good for bail money, but Yelp is a more reliable way to find decent grub. Mio Sushi isn't terrible, it's just unremarkable. If Denny's served sushi, Mio Sushi would be better. But, if Applebee's was a sushi joint, they'd be neck and neck. Get my drift? Everything about the place, from the menu design to the decor, screams "chain restaurant," and not in a good way. On the bright side, Mio Sushi is the same at both Portland locations I've been to and in Eugene. On the not-so-bright side (you guessed it), Mio Sushi is the same everywhere. I judge sushi by the nigiri, and theirs is below average, with fish that is neither especially fresh nor flavorful. The rolls are downright bad; my friends ordered a couple of the fried rolls (Volcano and Spider, I think), and they were a gooey, oily mess -- and the other rolls weren't much better! The bento and teriyaki are OK, but who goes to a sushi place to eat such fare? Finally, the service blew. The waitress did the classic drop-and-run, and I had to get up and fetch more wasabi from the sushi chef, and we never did get a second round of beers. The place wasn't even busy, she was just outside having a smoke or three. Sad. If you are jonesing for something sushi-like, there's a Mio everywhere, but otherwise I can't see why anyone would go.

  • Bree C.

Why did I try a combo meal at Mio Sushi for my first time? It seemed like a good deal, but I actually think just ordering sushi is the way to go. The rest of the food wasn't bad, but not great and not really worth the extra money, (small portion, salad+soup is cheap) However, that is my only complaint. Service wasn't totally spot on, but I don't care. The sushi is killer, and the rolls aren't bad priced. I can't wait to hit up happy hour and sushi the hell out of myself. The Alaska rolls, and California rolls were fresh, tasty and decently priced. Tight little sexy bundles of joy, popped in my mouth one after the other, although I did share with my 3 companions. This time... you're on your own next time guys ;)

Great spot to eat at after a nice workout. I've been to other Mio Sushi locations but this location hits the spot! Maybe it's because I got done with a nice workout at 24 hr Fitness which is right next door to the restaurant, but the food was super tasty, the service was great and staff was friendly!

This is my go to sushi restaurant when I want to have dinner with my kids. The fish is fresh and flavorful. The staff are super-nice. The presentation is lovely. They are very kind to my children (and in return I make sure my kids are well-behaved and I tip well). The happy hour is quite good. All their sauces are gluten-free and they carry gluten-free tamari.

Went to Mio Saturday night and got exactly what i was looking for. Some fresh raw fish! I started with an order of edamame which typically I get served hot at 99% of most sushi restaurants but here it was served cold. I prefer it warm/hot. I ordered 3 different nigiri options and was satisfied. The Mt. St Helens roll i had was nice as well. The experience could have gained with a little better service as well as some attention to detail on the items that they are serving. I would return but this place could use a little fine tuning.

  • Lala S.

My rating is a 2 because the food was a 1 and the service a 2 so I'm rounding high on my rating. The service was slow at a time the restaurant was not busy and our server did not get our sushi order correct even though we submitted it to her very clearly on the write-in Sushi menu. The House Salad "dressing" awful: bitter, not creamy and it made the salad taste rancid. We couldn't eat it. The Miso soup, NO flavor whatsoever and it's as if the restaurant is cutting back because it was very watery and little Miso paste was used. We could only consume maybe 3 sips. The Calamari appetizer, it was hard to find the pieces of Calamari atop the Rice Noodles they use for presentation. I've actually never seen smaller pieces of Calamari at any restaurant and when we did find a piece, we were sad to learn it most were only batter. Chicken Katsu Bento, the smallest portion of chicken we've ever seen served; given the size, should be an appetizer not an entrée. Given the price, should not be on the menu! Ramen, again NO flavor (broth watered down) and absolutely nothing special at all. It tasted packaged and not like they use freshly made broth or ingredients. I will stick to much better Ramen at Teriyaki Town just a few blocks away from the Hollywood Mio Sushi on Sandy Blvd. As for the Sushi, I had high expectations because in the past, I have liked Mio's sushi. This time, not at all. First the server got the order wrong even though we used the write-in Sushi menu. The Ahi (Tuna) on the Hawaiian Roll was very very pale, not even close to being pink, let alone red as good quality Sushi Grade Ahi should be. One in our party would not eat it knowing that color of Ahi (Tuna) should NEVER be used in Sushi or served raw. The sushi was seriously nothing special at all. I won't return to Mio Sushi again and I will not recommend it. Don't waste your money here. It's overpriced for what you get and for the quality of products they use. I'm sort of sick about this trip to Mio because I really talked it up to family who I took there this time. Total disappointment!

I was in the neighbourhood and sushi sounded good, so I saw Mio Sushi come up on my little Yelp map and it was a win! Yes, nice service: the staff is friendly. The bento box was a great deal and everything was yummy! I went back for lunch again and ordered the same thing!

Went back the other night for another gullet-stuffing of raw animals. I can relate to sushi: Like the guy with the beard hitting on Diane Keaton in "Annie Hall", I, too, want to die by being torn apart by wild animals. (But then eaten tartar). Sorry, tangent. What was noticeable this time was the ambiance--we were seated, and ordered, to the throbbing pulse of 50 Cent's lyrical masterpiece "In Da Club." In full grammatical honesty, I prefer "The" Club to "Da" Club, but I don't get to make that call. But once you get past such a simple faux pas, you can dine peacefully knowing that Mr.Cent, by his own admission, is meeting a lot of nice girls, dancing in a warm yet safe environment, and apparantly treating everyone like it's their birthday (or Birfday, if you can throw the slang). Who doesn't like birthdays? I felt a little sad for the elderly couple who were clearly not enjoying their hip hop fish dinner. Their faces during the song told me more than words of exasperation ever could: they were in Lil' Wayne's camp.

It's not the best sushi I've ever eaten but it sure wasn't bad! I really liked the miso. It was really flavorful compared to most miso I've had. There are lots of rolls to chose from and the three we got where good. Everyone in the restaurant was ordering big boats of sushi which looked really good as well. The prices are very reasonable. The service was kind of slow but it wouldn't stop me from going back.

I like Mio Sushi cause it's affordable and it doesn't taste cheap. Parking lot close to the gym stinks though (literally! ..at least during the time we visited). I guess with the sweaty people exiting the gym next door infused with several local dogs taking their dump in the gym's parking lot, it makes for a horrible potent killer essence. But that's not the restaurant's fault so I won't tag them for that

Tonight I had the absolute BEST experience I have ever had eating out. I wasn't feeling well when I was working out and suddenly became very weak. I have had some health problems over the last year that sometimes make me severely hypoglycemic...to the point I have not been able to pick up utensils or get money out of my wallet because my hands shake violently. My brain gets funny and my words slur and it is like I am very drunk in every way. Walking out of the gym I realized I would be a wreck by the time I got home and decided as sweaty as I was, still in work out clothes... I was just going to have to sit down at Mio Sushi. As soon as I sat down it all hit and I NEEDED food. With all the dignity I could I begged the sushi chef for a slice of any fish he could pretty much just hand me to eat. He obliged and looked a little worried. I was shaking so bad I could barely pick it up with both of my hands. (I couldn't even get the chopsticks off the table.) I think the chef sensed something was wrong and that I NEEDED food. He just kept making one piece on a plate and handing it to me. And they were amazing. (Some white fish with rice vinegar, a dab of spice, green onion, and bonito flakes.) After about 5 completely different bites, the shaking slowed and while I tried to read the menu two of the loveliest waitresses talked to me and brought me water and miso. They treated me like I was the star patron of the establishment and in no way made me feel bad or weird that I was having a little problem. Once my body slowed down and I could think, then they just talked to me and made me feel absolutely and truly welcome and like I was a friend. I have never had an experience like it. I wanted to just hug each chef and each waitress to me so they could understand how their service was better than how my Mom takes care of me when I am ill. It was fantastic, healing, and deep down I just needed someone to be a little nice to me today. On a scale of 1-10, your service rated a 19 and your food an 11. (I suggest just asking the chef to be creative if they aren't too busy. What he made me wasn't on the menu and was a 100 times better than what I ordered.) Thank you, Mio Sushi.... without your wonderful service, I'd probably be shaking the rest of the night and feeling really bad, instead of enjoying my time at home and feeling taken care of.

We went to this Mio for the second time this Saturday and I have to say so far this is our favorite neighborhood sushi joint. Clean/simple atmosphere, friendly, no wait, and dependable straight forward sushi! We tried the terriyaki & organic sake this time because it was chilly out and loved them both. The bento box terriyaki is a more than generous portion (couldn't finish) and the gooey sauce was super yum! The sake was supposed to be bubbly but wasn't, didn't affect the flavor or how bubbly we were after drinking it. We also appreciated the fond greeting & farewell from the staff.

I fall into the category of "big fan" of Mio Sushi. I've been to many of the Portland locations over the years and currently Hollywood is the one we frequent the most due to its close proximity. I guess it depends on what you order but I've found the sushi to be very good in taste/texture. The baked green mussels give me food orgasm EVERY TIME. Seriously. And, its always great to knock the socks off a friend from out-of-town with the Sushi "pizza". Mio is a casual dining experience, for sure. But the staff is always very nice. Their prices are reasonable. Mio is definitely our standard "go to" when it comes to affordable sushi.

No bueno. Just lack luster sushi. Bland, not a good texture, etc... I've gone back a couple times, because I hate to think that sushi can bad. But it is, here at least. With so many fantastic sushi options in Portland, I would drive a little longer to go someplace worthwhile.

Generic sushi. They had sparkling sake which was mildly entertaining, and getting a table was easy.

This is my go to sushi place I don't even have to look at a menu to order. I love the wait staff and the "Hello" everyone gets as they walk in the door. The service is always good and timely and the food is great.

This is probably my favorite sushi in Portland. In fact all of the Mio locations I have been to have been fantastic. I would say any sushi you get here is top notch, however the edamame and the yakisoba are not quite my favorites in town.

i went in for an early lunch, and straight away, the staff was super cheery and attentive. the food however was not very good. the sushi was warmer than i would expect it should be. the tako was downright gross. i had couldn't finish it. i suspect some of the fish was NOT fresh.

Mio Sushi provides a happy medium between authentic Japanese and daring exploration of flavours. Sushizza (sushi pizza) anyone? Two steps above Sushiland, but below par of some other very good establishments. Pricing is good. Definitely the place for a quick sushi craving as customer service is excellent. Kid friendly.

I took my kids here for a special sushi dinner and figured it would be like other places. We usually go to the sushi track places because my kids only eat the veggie sushi BUT this time we were in the Hollywood area. We needed sushi NOW and the other place nearby seemed too adult-only-ish for us, so we landed at Mio out of convenience. I have to say that the sushi was good, not super awesome but pretty good. It was nothing memorable but then again, I didn't get food poisoning so that's pretty awesome. ;) Having said all this, you might think I'd maybe 4 stars. After all, the place isn't super awesome and it IS a little pricey. It's just a satisfactory place, nothing special. This is where it gets realllll. I ask the server about tamari (which I do at every sushi place and they always look at me like this: O_O). She says, "Oh yeah, we have that! I'll be right back!" and proceeds to bring a bottle of tamari to the table. Anyone who is gluten-free can hear the bells ringing right now. THAT is what earned this place a big fat 5 stars. Gluten-free tamari so that us damned gluten-avoiders can dip OUR sushi too! I think I can overlook the mediocrity just for that fact alone. I'll gladly pay a bit extra to come here!

Mio Sushi is my favorite sushi place, hands down. I compare every sushi place I visit to Mio, and it always wins on price, value, and taste! My favorite rolls are the double crunch, sunset, and Mt Fuji. The maguro nigiri is always delcious, buttery and smooth! I love that the waitresses still recognize me even though I moved away and only get to visit a few times a year. Mio Sushi is always on my list of must-do's when I'm back in Portland. I love this place!!!

Mio Sushi is a nice place to stop into for some light fare. The wait staff is very enthusiastic and friendly. They have gluten free sushi, but you have to be careful about what you order. They can and will replace any krab with real crab, but make sure they know that its for gluten intolerance. Fried foods are cross contaminated, so no crunchy rolls. Just le them know you need the Tamari, aka Gluten Free Soy Sauce For the non-fish eater (aka Me) the Inari is yummy and they have these awesome cold noodles that I get. THey are glutenated, but I'm not the celiac in the equation.

Meh... I know everyone is so in love with Mio Sushi and I am just not a fan. I miss San Francisco for my sushi... *cry* but I have had better places in Portland than Mio. I do love their staff! They are super friendly and always helpful but the food is just not my fav.... Thanks for employing nice people Mio... but I will eat sushi elsewhere =(

We go to this Mio just about every time we eat sushi. The only place I've had better was at Bamboo, which is AWESOME. Back to Mio, though... The service at this location is very friendly and usually they serve you pretty quickly. The food is always fresh, except for one thing, which is why they only get 4 stars, instead of 5, from me. That thing was the berry cheesecake that we ordered for dessert, once. It was still frozen in the middle and tasted slightly freezer burnt. HOWEVER, when the gal came back to pick up our plates and noticed that neither of us had really eaten much of the dessert, she asked if it was ok, and when we told her, she got us a refund for those and gave us this AWESOME free little sushi plate(I don't remember what it was, but it was 4 pieces with some sauce drizzled over it-YUM!). So, it was kinda worth it to eat a few bites of not-so-good dessert and get some free yummy sushi. Even though they are always really nice and they made it up to us about the dessert, I have to give an honest rating, for those who are looking to try this place, that's why 4 stars rather than 5. Despite the less than stellar dessert(who goes to a sushi joint for cheesecake, anyway?), I HIGHLY recommend Mio Hollywood to anyone who is looking for some good sushi at a reasonable price.

Never again! Ordered teriyaki chicken and the chicken wasn't even room temperature, but cold! Disgusting! I had it sent back & told them I didn't want another plate because they'd probably just microwave the dish and after eating a piece if almost frozen chicken I was grossed out. Upon leaving (after my daughter finished her food), the waitress asked if I was hungry and if I'd like something.... Um, I've been seated for nearly twenty minutes and you ask me as I'm leaving. Really? Have no desire to return!

So disapointed...After my workout at 24 Hour Fitness (Mio is right next door) I wanted some good protien. Mio opened at 12pm on Saturday and I got here at 12:05. I ordered Seaweed Salad with crab, chicken, and 2 nigiri sake. It took 30 minutes for me to get my takeout order! I was so hungry I didn't bother checking my food. As I proceeded to try and eat my chicken in the car it was raw inside. I don't get it? 30 minutes for food that takes less than 5 to prepare and my chicken was raw? I'll Pass...

Good deals on food, fills my belly and unique choices. No complaints. Yes, it's a chain and it's not my super favorite, but the happy hour has some great deals and sometimes I just really like to nom out on a giant roll packed with three different species of fish and/or crustacean. Service is a little slow, but they are all very nice and have always made everything spot on.

The quality of the fish was downright dreamy. I'll be thinking about this experience for awhile. We arrived at 2:30pm asking if we were too late to be served, being as they close at 3:00 and re-open at 5:00. The hostess immediately said no and sat us at the bar quickly. We were one of two parties present, but a few stragglers found their way through the doors closer to 3:00. The attitude was still friendly and polite. If you are looking for a way to sustain a healthy diet affordably, this may be your answer! We had Ocean's Spring Cucumber, tuna, salmon, yellowtail, whitefish, crab, kaiware, avocado, iceberg lettuce, carrot, pineapple sauce, Rainbow Crab, cucumber, avocado, five fish wrap with sweet sauce and a large bowl, which I cannot recall the came of, filled with white rice and crisp rice noodles, several varieties of fish and roe. It was delicious. $50 for 2 included the tip. Enjoy.

Ouch.

  • Stacey H.

Not bad, they've got a good selection of stuff on the menu. Didn't have to wait for a table, but service and food was a little slow. Can't really blame em too much, there was a lot of people getting to go food. (argghh). I'd definitely go back!

i went in for an early lunch, and straight away, the staff was super cheery and attentive. the food however was not very good. the sushi was warmer than i would expect it should be. the tako was downright gross. i had couldn't finish it. i suspect some of the fish was NOT fresh.

No bueno. Just lack luster sushi. Bland, not a good texture, etc... I've gone back a couple times, because I hate to think that sushi can bad. But it is, here at least. With so many fantastic sushi options in Portland, I would drive a little longer to go someplace worthwhile.

Ouch.

Meh... I know everyone is so in love with Mio Sushi and I am just not a fan. I miss San Francisco for my sushi... *cry* but I have had better places in Portland than Mio. I do love their staff!

Enjoy.

I was in the neighbourhood and sushi sounded good, so I saw Mio Sushi come up on my little Yelp map and it was a win! Yes, nice service: the staff is friendly. The bento box was a great deal and everything was yummy! I went back for lunch again and ordered the same thing!
