The food was great, short ribs, noodles, and salad rolls were all delicious. The best surprise was a nice little patio in the back, perfect for meeting friends. There are a few choices of beers, if they could serve a nice white wine to go with Vietnamese food that would be fantastic. I will definitely be going back! The owner is a very friendly guy.

Really really great food. I had the tofu banh mi - it was large, inexpensive, and absolutely delicious. Fresh veggies, delicious sauce, perfectly cooked tofu. Not to mention the owner is friendly beyond belief - definitely worth trying!

I was excited to see a place with banh mis in the location. The woman working the cash register wasn't very friendly, but the chef was nice and outgoing. For $5 you get a big sandwich with yummy bread and a fair amount of meat. I tried the beef and the pork and I liked the pork best. There is a toppings bar with veggies and sauce, although I would've liked if the toppings had been added on for me. I like the idea of the toppings bar to add extra veggies, but it seemed kinda lame that I had to add it all myself, especially with the price not being the cheapest in the area. Pickled radish and daikon was perfect!

Ordered a pork bahn mi to go. Freshly cooked meat, spicy with a lot of lemongrass. Substantial and only $5. Toppings bar with crisp pickled vegetables, cilantro, jalapeño, and sauces. Quick and friendly service!

Brand new little spot on upper division right across from Los Gorditos. I've only had a banh mi but it was big, good, and only $5. He has rice and noodles and such. Will try again and report back.

We stopped by on a whim and were pleasantly surprised. The location was clean and their back patio was spacious and comfortable. We both had the Bahn mi and it was great. We would definitely stop by here again.

I've been curious about this new restaurant for a month or so since it opened. I live around the corner and finally made it in for some pho. At first I was skeptical about the $11 pricing for a bowl with everything (flank, brisket, tendon, meatballs, and tripe). Most other places only charge $8.50-$9, but those other places have been open for years, have watered down their broth and can afford it. I got my generous portion of pho and looked around for the staple pho condiments. I was directed to a condiment station where they had everything but the chili oil. I tried my pho without any additional flavoring and was pleasantly suprised at how rich the broth was. I only added fish sauce and jalapeño and a tiny bit of Sriracha and it was perfect. I'm a huge tendon fan and there was plenty of that amongst the generous amount of other beefy bits. I'm a small dude and it's been a while since I've downed an entire large bowl of pho. But I just couldn't stop eating and slurping this yummy richness. Great job!

4 stars, for MeKha! On our way to Seattle, we decided to stop by Portland for lunch and wanted something "warm" so Vietnamese soup it was. My bf searched for a place and found this, en route. The location was a bit off the freeway (non local) but it was worth the little detour. This location was actually fairly new. The owner greeted us, very friendly and nice. We ordered our food, it wasn't disappointing also. I got their Combination Pho, you can't go wrong with pho! It had that hint of difference from other pho which makes it different but good. BF got their fried chicken which was also yummy. Our son loved both dish, which was a good sign. We chatted with the owner, gave us pointers of where to go and we mentioned that we will be coming back to Portland in a few days on our way back to CA. He just happened to have another location down the street from The Grotto. I highly suggest you guys go here too. Search MEKHA and you should get 2 search results. Like I said, earlier this place is fairly new, so don't be surprise if you come here and their upstairs isn't fix yet. The back yard was really inviting to stretch after a long drive. Really refreshing. I think if we ever come back to Portland, this will be on our go back to places to eat!

I hope this place makes it. I am a HUGE fan of MeKha's noodle location on Sandy. In my opinion, that is THE best Vietnamese soup spot in town (HA VL is pretty over-hyped). So far, the two times I have stopped in, have been great. I hope next time I go I won't be the only person in there. The short ribs are GOOD.

Spectacular service from the manager. Service was over the top great. I also loved that got what I ordered extra vegi's and spicy. I have to give the manger credit like any good Vietnamese restaurant he offered and sold me his Kim Chi, I don't think I'd trust his food if he didn't. I bought an extra chicken bahn mi sandwich for my wife. She didn't eat it till the next day and absolutely love it a day old. If your in the 50th and Division area do yourself a favor and pick up some in/out lunch/dinner. Great value for money as well. They also have a nice patio out back.

I've been on the hunt for a decent vegetarian Banh Mi ever since my favorite place that made them closed. I finally found the replacement! The friendly/outgoing owner sautéed up some fine tofu, lemongrass and onion and placed it in a 1 foot fresh roll I swear to Jesus! The bread was perfect! On top of that they have a condiments bar so that you can put as much and as many veggies, hot peppers, sauces as you could possibly want on your awesome sandwich. I wanted for nothing after that. I also ate it all and my craving has been satisfied until the next time! Great place.. and I love that it's CLEAN as that is much more appetizing than some of the other places I've been to searching for that perfect Banh Mi.

First of all the customer service is amazing. The owner is the nicest guy and will often sit down with customers just to talk while they eat. This place has the best Bahn Mi, I've ever had! I bring all of my friends here to try it. I'd say it's once of the best things in Portland for $5.

The Kimchi here is remarkably good--even better than some of the Korean restaurants in town!

This was my first visit here. First the bad--just a couple of issues, which irritate me regardless of where I am. First, they charge 50 cents to use a card. Just raise the price of everything 5 cents, and this will pay for it! Don't charge your patrons extra to use a card. Second, I ordered the salad and it was a mound of iceberg lettuce. Iceberg lettuce has very very little nutritional value or taste. Restaurants should just not use it. Unless you're serving it covered in bacon and blue cheese and calling a Wedge. Now for the good...I told the waiter I couldn't have sugar and he marinates all the meat in honey. BUT, he grilled me some plain chicken for my salad that was really tasty. I also ordered the kimchee, and it was especially delicious--gingery, peppery...tasty! I'll go back.

The service at this place is great! The people were friendly and genuinely wanted to give me the best dining experience. The food was also good. They didn't skimp on the sandwich, and I got all that is in the picture for just $5! I highly recommend

Just wow. This place is pretty awesome. Great owner, food, and space for events from the spacious back patio or the dimmed up stairs. Price is respectable starting at the house special Banh Mi for 5 bucks up to the caramelized quail for 12 bucks. Also serves alcohol so all in all 5 out of 5 for me. I went for the first time earlier today and have decided it was so good made it back for dinner. Open till 9.

I am so lucky to live near this little gem. The salad rolls are so fresh and generous one order could fill me up. But the bahn mi is too good to pass up. But so is the pho! I think it is the best pho in Portland! Great service and personable owner it is a pleasure to eat there. Plus no MSG!

Amazing Banh Mi! $5 for a BIG sandwich, and the ingredients seem much higher quality/fresher than some of the local banh mi places. The owner recognized me on only my second visit and is a very friendly guy. They also have a sizable back patio area that looks really nice for summer time! A great addition to the neighborhood!

I got the Bahn Mi and an iced coffee, it was delicious! Well priced, quick friendly service! It tasted very fresh, and filling. Will definitely be returning.

This unassuming little place on division is quite pleasant. I had their quail entree which was delicious and perfectly seasoned and cooked. The only drawback to the dish was the accompanying salad, which was kind of an afterthought. Worth the visit, and I'll definitely be back.

This place is great! Super tiny spot with a super nice family. The best banh mi sandwich I've yet had in town. It's not the most hip looking place, which makes me like it even more.

Brand new at this location. Been there twice now -- delighted each time. Very fresh (and freshly prepared), with an interesting 'take' on basic Vietnamese dishes. The $5 bahn mi sandwich will feed two people (or last two days). It's not gourmet, but it is good & tasty. The owner-chef is very friendly, and willing to engage you in conversations about history, cultures, politics, religion, etc.

A welcome bricks and mortar addition to the neighborhood. Stopped in today to try the bahn mi and checkout the scene. The owners are very friendly, the space is welcoming and the bahn mi hits the spot. Tender, flavorful grilled pork on a perfect baguette! You can dress up your sandwich at the condiment bar to your liking. Also had a side of kim chi that was fiery and tasty! Another worthy stop in an intersection filled with good cheap eats. Looking forward to returning to try the pho!
