I rarely give one star ratings. But the service at this restaurant has been terrible the last few times I came. Today for lunch, I placed my order, and the food arrived pretty quick. However, with the food was a dirty plate, dirty cutlery, and a little insect crawling along the edges of my bowl. Not a great impression. 5 minute into my food, the waiter came to my desk with a bill. I just started eating, and he was rushing me to leave already although the restaurant was half empty. I paid for the meal on my credit card, and the waiter came back with the card but no receipt. I told him and he came back this time with the receipt but not my card! Then the waiter disappears into the kitchen for a good two minutes. I'm not impressed. Insects in food, disappointing service. Never coming back.

This is my go to for Thai. The Pad Kee Mao is some of the best I've had when it's done right. It has a little bit of a smokey flavor. When it's not at it's top it's still good. The chicken shrimp crispy basil, salad rolls (peanut sauce!), and green curry, among other things, are all great too.

I don't know why I hadn't make this a regular place before now! First of all, they've made it so easy to safely order gluten-free food (most of their menu is gluten-free, and what isn't is clearly marked). Love the unique Curry Powder noodles, and the Thai Beef soup is a welcomed change from the standard Tom Yum (though they have that too). Staff has been friendly, replacing a dish when, really, it was my mistake. Atmosphere is calmer than a lot of Thai places, where I often feel rushed. Prices are decent for generous sizes. Definitely a great neighborhood place!

I finally found some great Thai food in my 'hood! The area I moved to in NoPo has PLENTY of Thai restaurants, but up until now, they were all just mediocre in my opinion. Mee Dee broke that losing streak. Friendly service, actual Thai people cooking in the kitchen, and some great recipes = a winning combination. We had the following: Tom Yum soup with tofu- They don't mess around with the heat here, which I like. They have a 4 star heat scale, we asked for 3 on the soup, and it was definitely hot. The steam from the soup made my eyes water on its own. Great flavors though, lots of lemongrass and kaffir lime leaves. Mushrooms, onions, tofu. tom YUM is right. Papaya "pok-pok" salad- I fell in love with this dish while in Thailand, and I have to order it whenever I get the chance. Mee Dee's version was alright; not as good as the soup or noodles, but still very tasty. We also ordered this at a 3 star heat level, but it came out rather mild. Pad Kee Mao- Excellent, soft noodles, with lots of smoky flavor from an obviously scorching hot wok. The noodles and veggies all had a good layer of char on them. This is probably the best pad kee mao I've had in Portland. Check them out!

Some notes: Very consistent. Better than A LOT of the Thai places I have been to in Portland. Clean interior and nice staff. The vegetables are not over steamed, so I can taste them. Fair portion sizes. Quick take out. Outdoor seating at lively intersection. Affordable lunch specials. Thank you!

Meh. Our search for consistently great Thai food in North Portland continues. Mee Dee has been on our 'to try' list for the past year and we finally got around to having lunch there today. We ordered difficult to mess up staples of Pad Thai, Mussamun curry and Fresh Rolls (salad rolls). We asked for both the Pad Thai and curry to be medium to spicy. I am not a harsh critique but for lack of a better description the food tasted like something you'd get at a mall food court. Too sweet, no spice, the Pad Thai was overly greasy and the rice paper wrappers on the Fresh Rolls were stale and dry. It wasn't horrible however it definitely wasn't worth going back again.

I love their Avocado Summer Rolls. Their Pad Thai is really good too but I've noticed it can be off sometimes when I take it to-go. The staff is always nice and on top of things. This place is my favorite Thai place in North Portland.

We were visiting NoPo and wanted a break from the brewpubs that seem to grace every block. I had passed by Mee Dee on my morning run. After reading the positive reviews, we decided to order take-out from Mee Dee. I ordered three of our Thai food staples: Pineapple Curry, Pad Prik King, and Pad Thai, all with tofu. The lady who took my order was very pleasant, especially considering some teenagers had just run out on their check. I had not specified a desired spice level, but both of the spicy dishes were well-balanced, with the fragrant, perfume-like flavor that typifies well-executed Thai cooking. The vegetables and the tofu were fresh and cooked enough to be tender without being soft or mushy, and they did not skimp on anything. Some of the reviews here have described the place as pricey, but it seemed quite reasonable for the portion sizes. My wife and I ate as much as we could, and more than half of what we ordered is left over for tomorrow. This place is definitely worth trying if you're in the area.

In the sea of Thai restaurants in Portland, there's a gleaming beacon in it all: Mee Dee. This is for a number of reasons (incoming list review): - Great balance and spice in all their dishes. Not too greasy. - Gigantic lunch and dinner portions. A dinner entree can feed two people easily for less than $10. - Nice service. - Their Thai iced tea is great! - Gluten-free options? My friend Karen will love me! - The decor is nice inside. I did have one "bad" experience where they lost my pick-up order, but they were fast to get it out to me (~5 min) and provided water while I waited. For the value and quality, definitely try this place out. Trust me, I'm a doctor.* *I am actually a doctor, but not a medical one. Don't ask me for medical advice.

This place is awesome! The food is incredible and service is great. This is definitely one of my new favorites in Portland. Ask for the house cocktails. They are also great!

Honestly one of the most tastiest Thai Food I have tried in Portland( and we have tried many). The moderate prices and excellent service and flavors really is an excellent take out or restaurant dining. Its not fancy or pretentious. Crispy ground chicken wit basil, pad see ew, curries are all outstanding. I can never understand why there is not a line out their door. In the north/NE portland area, I wouldnt go anywhere else.

Best Thai food in North Portland. I had almost given up after trying 4 other places... I'm so happy I found this place! Seriously, so good... We had chicken pad Thai and the garlic and pepper stir fry. I can't wait to come back to try other things!

We were hoping to have a good meal as we can walk here from home. Mee Dee did not let us down. We were seated promptly at lunch. The only reason they didn't get a 5 star rating is the time it took to get back to us for the order, Once we ordered the ( Chicken Pad Kee Mao) and ( Shrimp Pumpkin Curry ) the food arrived in 5 - 8 minutes. The Pumpkin Curry was very good but the Pad Kee Mao was spectacular. It was the best Drunken Noodles I have ever had and I love Thai food. The spices were right on, the mix of ingredients were in proportion to each other and the noodles were extremely tender. The price even made it better. $7.00 at lunch. I also had the Thai Ice Tea and it was good but nothing out of the ordinary. We will be making more trips here.

Food is better than average for Thai cuisine.. disappointed that I asked for extra veggies with my noodle dish, got charged $1 more, and a handful of uncooked brocooli florets were thrown on top of the noodles.. that's just cheap and tacky. Food has been good but somewhat overpriced IMHO. $11 for Pad Thai is a bit much. Only ever ordered take out so can't speak to dine in service. I'll try them again. If only they would deliver!

This place is the best Thai food in this area of town in my opinion. Really delicious and authentic. Great fried rice, stellar peanut sauce, delicious pad kee mao. The staff are really kind and the service is decent. This is our new place since E-San on Denver closed down. 4/5 because unlike most Thai places that give you portions to have left overs for lunch the next day, this place gives you enough for 1 meal.

My favorite Thai place in North Portland. We've been dining here for over two years. This review is well overdue. MeeDee is super consistent with the food and as time goes on service improves. It's a fairly large place. Good for gatherings and family's. My boyfriend and I go frequently and always do the traditional thai style of sharing several dishes. The Pad Kee Moa is awesome, some of the best in portland. The pineapple curry, flaming beef, hot basil friend rice, crab Rangoon and chicken satay are all super amazing. I'm never disappointed with the quality of the food or the price.

All I have to say is "EXCELLENT KHAO SOI". Probably not the most authentic interpretation, but who cares, it tastes wonderful and is reasonably priced. Highly suggest trying it!

I took my friends there for lunch for helping me move. The place was EMPTY which made me nervous because it was lunch time and near Adidas. Apparently the Adidas employees know something we didn't know. The prices were a little high for lunch in my opinion. We each ordered something different. The food was okay but a tad uneventful (especially for the price) and the noodles were too greasy. One of my friends suddenly looked shocked. There was a sharp piece of red plastic in his food! We told our waiter and he told the cook. No one apologize, no explanation, no free lunch, no refire, no nothing! They acted like this was a normal occurrence. My food ended up having gluten and I got sick. Yes, soy sauce (not tamari) in America does have wheat that is why I asked you to leave it out! Just avoid this place!

I went here a few times while staying in town and absolutley enjoyed everything. The service was speedy and attentive and the food was delicious! If I am back in the area I will definitely be back!

Good food. I ordered the Pad Thai and it was excellent and delicious. The restaurant's atmosphere was very nice and clean. Great place to have lunch with friends and co-workers. It was my first time eating there but will definitely come back for more.

  • Jae K.

Stopped by this place after the Sunday Parkways bike ride. Was located in the neighborhood conveniently. Had Mussamun currry and Pad Thai. Both too sweet and the noodle was over totally overcooked. The service was mediocre. They had one person serving the entire place. There are so many great Thai restaurants in Portland and have not been to too many bad Thai restaurants, yet. This is one of the bad ones that I probably would not come back for more.

Great food! The Green Curry with chicken has been my current favorite. Amazing flavor!

  • Leslie R.

A friend of mine from the neighborhood took me here for dinner. Atmosphere seemed nice & clean, but I was extremely dismayed and disgusted when I found a nickel-sized piece of mold in the bottom of my diet Pepsi. When I brought it to the waitress' attention, she quickly apologized, then took it and left. She came back a good 15 minutes later and said it was a piece of tapioca from the bubble tea. DEFINITELY not! Tapioca is not flat! We were then charged for every other part of our meal. I can understand mistakes happening, but it was completely disgusting, and the lie that followed to save face was very disappointing. And she could've at least comped the appetizer! Never going here again!

I love this place. I eat here way too much (2+ times per week) and it never gets old. Probably the best Thai I have yet had in Portland, and considering how many Thai restaurants there are here, that's definitely saying something. Service is fast, food is delicious, prices are great. What's not to love?

[Mee Dee Thai used to be called Tsunami Thai... not sure if they just changed the name or changed owners.. doesn't seem like much else has changed so perhaps just a name change] Mee Dee Thai is fabulous.... great service, yummy food, wonderful atmosphere. The space is very open, with tall ceilings and minimal and tasteful decoration. I went there with a friend for lunch today, and we had wonderful, quick and very friendly service. Prices were reasonable, they have weekly specials [including pumpkin curry!], and a fairly typical variety of menu items. They serve imitation crab ragoon, which will keep my coming back again and again [in addition to the fact it is less than a block away from my friend's house]... I don't even like crab, but throw in some cream cheese and fry it and you've got me SOLD! We both ended up getting the Pad Thai, which I tend to order from Thai places in order to judge whether or not they pass the test for a return visit... and it was delish! Can't wait to come back and try another dish... and perhaps check out their happy hour selections!

I went here for lunch recently. I ordered off the special end of the menu that offered more authentic dishes. I had something that was ostensibly Pho. It was like nothing I've ever had at a Thai restaurant in the States. It was spiced with anise and cardamom, and has this incredible aroma, not too mention rich broth made from bone marrow. I'm pretty sure if I just ordered Pad See Ew, or Green Curry it would have been good, but nothing that would make it distinct from any other Thai restaurant., which makes it....memorable. Instead of just the generic neighborhood Thai place. Nice, pleasant ambience as well.

  • Kersten G.

This is my 4-year-olds favorite restaurant, hands down. He always orders the Pad See Ew, and it is delicious, the broccoli tender crisp, the noodles soft but not overdone. There are several closer thai restaurants that serve the same dish, but none do it as well as Mee Dee.

We used to come here regularly because it is in the hood, the food is not bad, the staff seemed nice, and I liked giving them business because it was always pretty dead there. Well, they clearly don't want our business anymore, because last weekend we received the rudest treatment by the hostess. Like, hilariously rude. We showed up half an hour before closing, which I don't think is crazy. I never show up any closer than that to closing, because I don't want to be a jerk. Still, the hostess slapped down our menus in a total and very obvious huff. Literally, slapped them down loudly and stomped off. STOMPED OFF TO GO TURN OF THE CHRISTMAS TREE LIGHTS. This was hovering between comical and appalling, and we let it slide. The straw that broke the camel's back, however, and which prompted this review, is the fact that when our food was brought out, we were abruptly told the restaurant was closing soon. Just like that. No kind amending or apologetic words, just a very rude, "we are closing soon" and then she walked away. We just stared at each other agape. It's not like we showed up minutes or even 20 before closing, we thought showing up a half-hour before closing wasn't a punishable offense. WHY EVEN SEAT US, THEN? Or how about changing your closing time if you have a problem with people showing up A HALF HOUR before you close? I'm never going back there again. Good luck with that.

I feel a little bad giving this place 2 stars (although the food honestly deserves no more), but I feel a duty to correct the inflated scores of other Yelpsters. Ambiance was great and service fine, but the food was really disappointing. Here's a description of the dishes we ordered: +A curry dish: watery peanut soup with chicken and veggies. It was shockingly bad. +Fresh rolls: bloated rolls of rubbery rice paper wrapped around white noodles and whiter lettuce. the peanut dip was nothing special. +Tom kah soup: too thick and way way way too salty take on a thai restaurant staple. +Garlic pepper stir fry: flavorful and satisfying. I was pleased with this one. I wanted this place to end my quest for good Thai food in inner Portland, but I'll keep looking.

This is the Best Thai Food in Town! Incredible flavors, and they can happily make most of the items they offer as Gluten-Free - which is important to some of us! Service great, clean, all around great!

Terrible. My husband and I ordered take out for our first time trying this place. When dishing up the yellow curry there was a black hair in it. I can assure you we do not have black hair. Will never try this place again....no idea how the food tastes will not risk it again. Seriously revolting!

THE BEST Thai fried rice anywhere!!!!!! Service is amazingly quick and the quality of the food is superb. Everyone there is so great and take pride in Mee Dee. It is quite a little gem! Also, the prices are more than affordable and the portions are hearty!!! I will definately reccomend this place to others!!!

This is my go to spot when I am in the area for lunch. The food is above authentic and better than most. Spacious restaurant and nice decor. I have gotten the pad kee mao, pad see ew, and curries. They also have thirst quenching Thai drinks and bubble tea. A lot of great seasonal drinks. Drink choices of non-alcoholic and alcoholic drinks. The desserts sweetens the whole meal makes it such a good deal. Service is friendly for dining in and take out. The waitress always has a smile and very polite. As I wait for my take out food they offer me water as I wait. You get your food pretty quickly from my experience. And they prepare it fresh. If you are in the area I would go here instead of other Thai options nearby.

I'm from out of state, so I really liked that their menu had some things that I've never seen at other Thai restaurants I've been to. Everything I ordered was delicious, especially the Summer Avocado Rolls and the Kee Mao Yakisoba noodles. Would definitely give this place a try again.

Excellent service, delicious food. We were very impressed with their delicious crab Rangoon, and delicious pad Thai. I ordered the shrimp Pad Thai and it was delicious. It was enough for two meals for me, and they gave me lots of large, delicious shrimp. My husband ordered the chicken pad Thai and was very happy with it. We will definitely go back again soon - the food was very affordable (compared to nearby Thai restaurants) and the service was excellent. The layout of the restaurant makes it a fairly quiet place to enjoy a meal. We will definitely be back again soon.

Super awesome thai food. My go to red curry was the perfect spice level and was a decent sized portion. Price was very reasonable and everything was super fresh. I'll definitely be back again soon. Excellent customer service too!

Service is great and the employees can be full of conversation if it's okay with you. I learned that their owners are kind and generous and allow the decision whether they're open on holidays (like some restaurants) to the employees -- no pressure to make anyone work, but if employees can work they'll be open if they need to be. This makes me support this local business even that much more: hard workers with a voice. The food is good, but I was slightly disappointed in my pad kee mao -- the bell peppers weren't sauteed long enough to taste fully cooked. Although I did devour the dish, I didn't find it too satisfying as I did to their wings. The Mee Dee's wings are divine and I'll definitely at least two orders the next time around. Had ordered the tom kah and mussamun curry as well and they were good, but didn't differ from other Thai restaurants I've eaten at. I'm not familiar with their spice level so had ordered everything at "medium" and that was a bit spicy. Would recommend mild if you're faint of heart, but still want some spice. Their prices are fair, for about $34 I had ordered: wings, pad kee mao, tom kah, and mussamun curry.

SUPER yum. The best salad rolls in town I think, and their peanut sauce is even BETTER than the salad rolls. Seriously, get 2 peanut sauces. Their Pad Kee Mao is my go to, always consistently delish. Their ground chicken and basil is my second favorite. They are always so quick too, by the time I walk there from my house, about 10 min, my food is always ready to go! Thanks for the yummy Thai food!

My fave Thai Restaurant in Portland. The menu is broad and all good. The Curry Noodles, MeeDee Wings, Avocado Salad are must haves. They are also the most conscious Thai place out there when it comes to Gluten Free needs, brown rice etc. They also have a great Tea selection. Fried Ice Cream is amazing. I take my family from out of town here as an alternative to PokPok. PokPok may be known but it is overpriced mediocrity.

This is my fiancé and I's "go-to" Thai restaurant in the neighborhood. Everything we've ordered so far has been phenomenal. We really don't have a single complaint! The service is spot on too. The servers are always young, enthusiastic, fast and attentive. We like to bring visitors here from out of town. All the curries are Delish and I like to order the sweet sticky coconut rice with mango for dessert. Try all the appetizers!

Once I finally narrow down the type of food I want, further precision is required especially when it comes to Thai! I'm happy to announce Meedee tops the list for all around good thai. They get it right in all the realms; soup, noodles, salad rolls, curry and stir fry. I have a weakness for the Kao Soi, the salad rolls and recently the Pao Kee Mao (spelling?). The service inside is great, the dinning area is comfortable offering big windows for people watching. Thera a tiny parking lot off Greeley but usually street parking is plentiful. Price is on par with others, they give you a little more then the rest and obviously it's amazing or I'd go somewhere else ;-) Try it!!!

Our experience was very unsatisfying! We walked in and were not greeted we had to ask to be sat and once we got seated they never came back to take our order. We waited for about 20 minutes until one of us finally got up to notify the waiter that we were ready to take our order. After a few more minutes we decided to finally walk out. Sad that we did not even get acknowledged!
