I've been here too many times due to it's proximity to OHSU, easy access sans traffic (being it's in the opposite direction of downtown) and given there is plenty of parking. I know there are much more fabulous places to eat, but the happy hour is reasonable, and you can't beat those cajun tots. The patio is nice too, usually not swamped, and open pretty much regardless of the weather since it's screened in/covered. I've taken really big groups and been accommodated nicely. The one thing I would recommend is the beer milkshake. It sounds weird, but it is so not, and last time I got it EVERYONE was jealous!

Great PUB and GRUB in the Hillsdale Neighborhood. Real Food, Real People!

This place is within walking distance of my house, so it gets mad props for that. Decent pub fare, beer would be considered excellent if we weren't in Portland, but alas, it's just so-so to my spoiled ass. I wish they had some dart boards or other games.

Went to the pub with my 18 year old daughter tonight.. I used to live in the neighborhood and went there regularly in the early 90's and loved it back then. Tonight was a huge disappointment! My daughter was excited to see that they had Milkshakes on the menu, so she ordered up a chocolate shake. It was thin and warm. I could have sworn they put some Hershey's syrup in a glass of milk, then stuck it in the microwave to take the chill off. It was room temperature when it hit our table. I ordered the Cheesesteak Sandwich, which had great seasoning and flavor but was unfortunately overcooked and dry. To make it worse, the roll it was served on was dry and stale. Regrettably, overcooked, dry and stale also described the burger and bun on my daughter's meal, so they went 0-2 on our meals. Fortunately our server didn't serve our meal in the same manner he served a later guest however. He delivered the meal in his left hand, while holding a dirty and grimy bustub in his right hand. He then proceeded to bus an adjacent table. I understand about ergonomics and efficiencies, but come on, make a separate trip buddy! I won't be in any hurry back to Hillsdale Brewery, you can count on that.

the only reason i ever come here is the location (or it's too crowded at Salvador Molly's). i can walk home. haha. the food is lame. the beer is not great. the crowd, well, i want to like it! last time i was there there were a group of middle age men who were drunk and arguing over where you could get the best vacation for $30000. I mean seriously. It's bad. I know there are cool people in hillsdale and they don't hang out here. oh, was that too harsh? oh well.

The food isn't amazing and they don't have the best beer, but it's close to home and you generally know what you're going to get: burgers, tater tots, and slow service. But if you know that going in, it's totally fine!

For a McMenamins, this place is pretty low key in regards to decor, and atmosphere, so they get only four stars. This isn't a place to impress anyone, but it is still a great place for grub (to use Nathan B.'s verbage!). They also seem to rotate a lot of specials onto their menu, and I've never regretted an adventurous trip to the "special" menu at this pub!

Say what you will about McMenamins, I LOVE this bar. The food is pretty great-- in fact, they have the best clam chowder I've ever had (special on Fridays) and I'm from New England. Warm atmosphere, friendly staff, superb specials, strong drinks and yummy microbrews. Oooh, and since they serve food, the young'ns are welcome before 10pm. They have two happy hours! And even the small order of french fries is big enough for two. Their cheeseburgers are excellent!

I had no idea this was a McMenamins until I walked in. You seen one McMenamins, you've seen it all. You've eaten at one, you've eaten at them all. Same menu, same cheap happy hour, same friendly yet dismissive waiter, same vibe altogether. I recommend Hillsdale Brewery for a cheap, quick meal during their happy hour. Otherwise, it's probably not worth your $$.

This review is based exclusively on my experience at the McMenamins BrewFest, last weekend. * Each McMenamin brewery in the area got to select one of their beers to compete in this brewfest, for the beer belt chamionship. And the winning beer gets to represent McMenamins at the Portland Beer Fest in July. There is not entry fee to get into the Hillsdale brewfest, but each tray of 10 samples cost $8. We took the bus from downtown, and it dropped us off right around the corner. Super easy. The place was packed! But what do you expect for a beer festival? Everyone was merrily drinking, chatting the tables and deck were full. We put our name on the list. (There was just 2 of us) and waited around in the parking lot for 15-20 minutes. We got our own booth! We ordered each tray of beer samples so we could try them all choose our 3 favorites. There was 20 samples, each cup about 4 ounces. Plus there was a brochure telling about each beer. We took the time to read about each one. I'm sure we overstayed our time. We share our favorite McMenamins burger -the communication breakdown burger. It wasn't enough food to soak up all that beer, we still had a whole tray of beer starring us down. So we ordered the happy hour humus. Yum, $2 bucks for plenty of pita and humus for 2 people. The place was loud, rowdy and the staff was helpful and friendly. I could see us returning if we wanted a relaxed small town feel. But it was the perfect place for this beer tasting activity. We continued on with our beer samples. Finally the beer won, we could not drink it all. It turned to be about 6 beers each. We were ready for a nap. We went back across the street and grabbed the first bus to stop that was heading back downtown. It was a very successful, easy trip. Our bellies were happy, full of good beer and yummy food. We needed a nap.

We live very close to this place so we've hit it quite a few times. One of your most dull McMenamins, but you know what you're going to get at McMenamins and the people are friendly. They usually have a special keg on tap that is different from all other McMenamins... sometimes good...sometimes bad. They had an incredible Belgian beer last summer and I keep trying to go back to see if they're going to have it again, but no luck. Great place to fill up your growler for beer to go. Just across the street is Salvidor Molly's (great Jamaican food)!

My husband and I were craving a yummy hamburger and fries. We got there and the service, first of all, was horrible. I sat without a drink for 20 minutes. We both ordered burgers and they were disgusting. Mine was the color grey without any sign of a grill on the patty, my husbands looked the same. The tots were white and frozen in the middle. It was like the cook put our food in the microwave. It was so disgusting and I will never set foot in a McMenamins again. This was horrible. I felt like they din't care or take pride in their food or service.

Do you like greasy food with lots of grease? I had a burger and fries. My son had "scooby snacks" which are little deep fried corn dogs. I left feeling greased out. Why.

    (2)
  • Claire G.

Ate there with my husband for the afternoon happy hour and only spent $25 on a more than filling meal + drinks (not including tip)! All of the food was good- always a fan of the Scooby snacks (mini corn dogs). If you go for the bbq sweet potato fries, I would recommend requesting honey mustard in addition to the ranch dipping sauce. Most impressively, it was quite busy at the time, and although there only seemed to be 2 guys working there, our server (I believe his name was David) was notably friendly, considerate, and efficient. The decor there is quirky and cozy and I especially like the update to the bar seating area, which now has mini booths.

The only way I can justify the bartenders attitude is that he must have been a ninja turtle in his past life. And with the current job market and the lack of need for crime fighting turtles, he had to settle to being a lowly bartender at a McMenamins. Well, someone should tell him that he should and very minimum say "hi" and "thank you" or at least a half assed smile when a customer approaches the bar.

    (3)
  • Ana R.

Overheard that they were a little understaffed today while we were waiting for our food (we were sitting at the bar), that said, everyone we interacted with had a great attitude. Our food arrived fast and piping hot. Kudos to the staff for the great job while being understaffed. You guys are pros!

Decent food and decent service. No complaints. I would suggest they have the waiters wear deodorant.

  • Madalyn P.

The general manager called me after my last yelp review about them dropping the ball on following up. We had a good conversation and he did convince me that most Mcminimims employees do care. He even sent me a gift card to give them a second chance.

  • Mudcat A.

Standard McMenamin's fare. Friendly staff. But the atmosphere is a little dark. The outdoor seating is trapped in a tent. I hope with Sasquatch in the neighborhood, they will update the decor. Still glad to have them here- a mainstay. And the tater tots....

  • Chris O.

Kid friendly till about 10pm and dog friendly on the outside which is a good covered space. The food is decent, especially the deserts which normally I ignore but they had an oatmeal chocolate thing with vanilla ice cream on top that was really tasty even if quite rich. The beer is excellent all around, I haven't had one I didn't like yet. The staff is cool too so why the low ratings here? Well I can only imagine it's just not as unique and amazing as other McMenamins locations like Kennedy school but as far as basic pubs go it's still great if you ask me.

There seems to be a McMenamins everywhere I look in Portland and I didn't previously know there was one in Hillsdale. I saw it a few Saturdays ago while my Son and I were having Lunch at Salvador Molly's next door. So the next day while the Kid was over at Other Worlds, I wandered for a solo lunch and some time on the iPad (courtesy of their free WiFi). I think this McMenamins was supposed to open at Noon on Sunday, but I finally got in several minutes later. The Lunch crowd was light and I took an inside booth, rather than the patio on this cool and occasionally rainy Portland day. Service was pleasant and relaxed. I enjoyed my Portland Confidential Wrap (sharp cheddar cheese, Cajun tots, peppercorn ranch, romaine & tomato wrapped in a warm flour tortilla) and of course an IPA. I lingered, called Gayle up, read emails and FB posts, and eventually took my leave to walk over and see how my Son was doing. This Hillsdale Brewery location was a nice neighborhood place to hang out.

Servers and bartender were good humored and fun to chat with! The atmosphere was exactly what I would expect of a McMenamin's pub . . . Eclectic!

Great place to go for happy hour in Hillsdale. This place deserves 5 stars for amazing tots and Ruby but the service SUCKS! Waitress is super slow. Example: on Tuesday 8/18 I came in for dinner and the waitress never brought me all the food I ordered, took 20 plus minutes to refill drinks.

I ate here about a month ago and had great service and great food. Not sure why there are more men bathrooms that women, but all else was fine. The Cajun tots are a must at any mcmennamins establishment. The menu has Stanard McMenamins fare but had to check things out with my passport adventure. Great veggie and tuna fish sandwiches.

This is the original McMenamins from which all have grown. It was originally a Skippers fish and chips fast food spot. The McMenamin brothers successfully lobbied the Oregon legislature to allow brewers to brew, measure for taxes and then sell the beer on site. That's a brew pub, and the legal and taxing innovation was nontrivial at the time. This was the first brewpub in Oregon! From the beginning, they filled growlers to go, though growlers is a new term. Mason jars originally. They have the standard McMenamins beers and food menu contributing to the star rating to positive. But you have to give them credit for starting brewpubs, brewing in the Hillsdale area (now joined by Sasquatch) and being a fine Hillsdale gathering spot, daytime to late. Now about the food. McMenamins discloses nutrition information for regular menu items on their website. The holy trinity of American desire is sugar, salt and fat, all unhealthy. McMenamins reduce all. An admirable goal! Can it taste good and be good? That is the question. They have rotating specials available to all their pubs which individual managers select. I tried what sounded like an innovative option from the ingredients, but the anticipated taste experience was lacking. They do offer their food to-go in the A-OK paper clamshells. And on their website they list suppliers - they do a stellar job at local sourcing! The staff was excellent, prompt, communicative. That's great! And I get the very successful McMenamins business model, good ingredients, solid staff treated and supported as they should be, healthy, thin beers, all supporting a spectacular and high quality expansion and renovation of historic buildings. Suggest they experiment with a few marquee beers, equalling the top local brewers, keep up the distilling program, with the same goals, figure out a way to make the food more tasty and tell their story, which is cool. Don't be afraid to order specials, or to be disappointed in their flavor. But if you have relatives visiting with bland food preferences, like from the Midwest, they are a perfect choice!

Yum, j had the best in the show hot dog and it was DELICIOUS, herbed cream cheese, onions, bacon and avocado on a 1/4 pound beef hot dog....it is a must try. I had the ruby beer and it was delicious and light. The service was alright, a little below decent and it did take a while to order our beers and food, but the food did come out quickly and was really good!! I will definitely be back to try out more food!!

This McMenamins is a hidden gem. Not sure if it's good for them, but I love that it is never crowded. Always super mellow. The tots are always the best cajunized. And @ this location you can get a burger with peanut butter, onions, and bacon and it is awesome! They also do a great job on the lettuce wraps. You can't always get peanut butter @ all the locations so this is a pretty awesome feature. And their peanut butter is pretty darn good.

First time at this location. Stopped in for lunch expecting McMenamin's size crowds with it being St. Patty's Day but open seating was available. I read another post that said the two-seater nooks across from the bar are new. We loved the spot. Excellent choice of renovation. Cozy dark wood mini booths compliment the existing seating areas. The kitchen/grill are open to see. The place looks great and has a really nice vibe. Comfortable, warm and friendly. After ordering a seasonal pomegranate cider and an Irish stout to go with the Cajun tots appetizer we decided on the Irish reuben sandwich and the Portland dip. Service was impeccably on point for having nearly every table filled as the lunch hour rush hit the place. The reuben was tasty and the dip was fantastic especially the garlic au jus. I ordered a Greenway Golden brew after doing my Irish duty with the stout. The golden was crisp, clean and delicious. I'd read other posts complaining about the service here but it was hands down one of the best McMenamin's service experiences we've had. Keep up the good work fellas!

My hubby likes to come here for the beer. But when it comes to service, this place can be horrible. We went there (on a weeknight) to meet up with some friends. There were 7 of us, all together, so we got the communal table. A waiter came up and told us that they were 'slammed' and so it would be about a 45 minute wait for food. He passed out the menus and that was the last we saw of him at our table. After about 15 minutes, I flagged down another waiter and said, "I know that this is not your table, but we've been here for 15 minutes and our waiter hasn't even taken our drink order." He very kindly took our drinks order, plus I ordered a hummus plate. (I figured if dinner was going to take so long, we'd better have something to nibble on). He made our drinks and brought them over, then took our dinner order. In the meantime, OUR waiter just ignored us. He had taken orders all around us from folks that had come in after us. What was his problem? The hummus plate was really excellent, btw. And it staved off the hunger. But you know what? The food did NOT take 45 minutes to get to us, once we'd ordered. I think our original waiter just wanted to downplay expectations since he is such a crappy waiter. The food is decent here, probably 3 stars..nothing to write home (or Yelp) about. They need to get a line on their service though. So many of these reviews reflect an overwhelming frustration with the service at this location. This certainly drives folks to the other food options in the Hillsdale/Multnomah area.

BUSY! My first experience with McMenamins Hillsdale Brewery & Public House was for their annual brewfest in February. It was... a very peopled place. Getting a space to sit so you can drink beer and eat some tots requires some patience. But, per usual, patience pays off and once you get to taste the delicious brews the brewmasters have cooked up, life gets good. Because of the nature of the brewfest and the fact that I sat outside in the beer tent for the entirety of my Hillsdale Brewery experience, I can't speak to the artwork or ambiance inside the pub. That's reserved for my next visit. If you're a beer lover and you're willing to fight the crowd, I'd definitely stop in for the brewfest and if it happens to be any day other than that one day in February, I'd still stop buy for some tots and a pint.

I enjoy McMenamins, as a whole! I came in this evening and it was packed out! Wait list only. Usually I would find somewhere else, but, it was a short wait and seemed worth it. The guy with the pompadour said it would be a 15 minute wait an it was only a couple minutes. The food took a while but it was, totally, worth the wait! The service was impecible!

Me: Let's go to Salvatore Molly's for HH. Friend: Great idea, meet you there. Arrive at Salvatore Molly's: Boo Hiss, no seats ANYWHERE. Me: Wanna try that McMenamin's next door? Friend: Sure Me (to server): Hey, I've never been here, can you tell me about this "Pizza Bread" stuff? Server: Umm, yeah, it's like this bread like pizza. Me: I kinda figured that. Can you tell me why it says it's so amazing? What is it about it that makes it amazing? Server: Ummmm, I don't know, let me go ask. I really don't know anything about it. ...........Some time later....... Server: So, we don't actually have that Pizza Bread. McMenamins went to a standardized menu, but not all of the restaurants have everything on the menus. So, we don't have the Pizza Bread stuff at all. Me: I'll have the Caesar Salad. Friend: I'll have the Tater Tots, & a Burger. Food comes. Me: Can I have some Blue Cheese for the Tater Tots? Server: Sure, I'll be right back. Server never returns...... (until we sent up a flare & asked for the bill) & neither will I!!

This review is actually for last nights 15th Annual Brewfest. 20 Mcmenimans brewers presented a beer from each brewery and use your vote to decide who brewed the winning beer! The brewer who's beer was rated number one gets to compete in the Oregon Brewers Festival. It was only $8.00 for a platter of ten tasters. The platter is labeled of course and you are handed a brochure with all the facts regarding each beer. It was fun to meet other beer advocates and discuss who likes what and why. We were done tasting 20 beers in one hour with no waiting in long ass lines and all for under $20. I must say I liked the Bada Bing from the Edgefield Brewery which was labeled as a cherry porter. My runners up were the Lighthouse Breweries OR?Ator-styled as a Double Ale-Bock and the Pale Rider from Dad Watsons Brewery. Yay for Brewfests!~

It is another Mcmenamins. Apparently it is the first pub to have legally opened post prohibition. That's cool. Its a good spot for kids during the day and there is a nice covered patio area. Otherwise, its a mcemens. Most Mcmens that are just restaurants (meaning they aren't theaters or hotels) seem to have lost their charm. Its a bar with friendly but aloof staff and greasy bar food. The hummus plate is good though, and consistent between different mcmens. Their beer selection is varied, but I like PBR. Its pretty good for the price, they never seem too busy and they have beer festivals. So they got that going for them.

Hillsdale Neighborhood Perhaps it is the location as to why not too many Yelpers have descended upon this spot, or perhaps it is how saturated Portland is with restaurants and the many choices Yelpers have, or perhaps it's something else. Either way this place definitely found a fan in me. I came here simply because Salvador Molly's was so packed and this was right next door. My good buddy lives in this area so to keep things simple we went to his "Cheers" spot... funny thing is nobody knew him on this evening... Talk about ammunition! I've known this guy since 1990! We started off by sharing their Buffalo Wings: yelp.com/biz_photos/mcme… and while him and his wife were not that impressed saying they've had better there I actually enjoyed the couple that I had. I have kind of a small appetitie and didn't want to ruin it for my Steak Wrap. These wings had plenty of tender chicken meat, were nicely dressed with Buffalo Sauce that had a nice little zing to them without being too "Vinegary," and were not drown in stomach real estate taking breading! The Ranch Dressing made for a nice cool contrast to the heat of the sauce. For an entree I went with the most delicious Cowboy Steak Wrap: yelp.com/biz_photos/mcme… which is mesquite steak, smoked mozzarella, tomato, frizzled onions, lettuce, & chipotle mayonnaise wrapped in warm a tortilla. Ironically and in a most welcome fashion this wrap had a bacon taste about it. I can easily tell you ladies and gentlemen that this was easily one the best choices I've ever made and cannot thank McMineman's enough for coming up with this combination. Every component just had me so happy from flavor to texture. You get a choice of side so I went with the rarely offered Cajun Tots... again a slammin choice and they had a nice kick to them that is rarely found. I also loved how crunchy they were. I just couldn't push this item enough. Their prices are pretty average, but were made even better with our arrival time during happy hour. The wings were discounted and so were the couple beers that we had. There is a very old school feel about this place, but it is still very welcoming. You don't get the sense you are in any sort of chain at all. Gone is corporate and contrived while present is individualism. Service is extremely nice, attentive, helpful, and expedient, by the whole staff. Their private lot features plenty of parking.

The service here was very slow, but the food was great. It took 10 minutes to take our order and then 30 minutes to serve it. Once the food came, it was great. They have gluten free buns that are quite good and convienent to the gluten sensitive. I recommend the food, but not of you're in a hurry.

I live in the area so having a place with good food within a 2 minute walking distance is a plus but it doesn't seem worth it when 50% of the time you have amazing service and the other 50% is the shittiest service ypu've ever witnessed The other thing I saw at this location more than once while.waiting for a to-go order was the cook touching random things by the stove, scratching himself or wiping his nose with his hand then continuing to cook WITHOUT washing his hands!! Can we say UNSANITARY?

It's clean and everyone was polite. Not a bad spot. But for a Mcmenamin's I would say it has a lot of competition. Some of the others have more creative vibes. Maybe this one needs some sort of theme!?! Aww, well, I guess they kind of do have a vibe. It's very relaxed. I will say its got a great deck with plastic chairs and wooden benches, nice for hanging outside on a nice day. I went outside but it wasn't as warm as I had hoped and wanted to come back in, and everyone was super nice about it. Some places don't like when you move or pick your own seats and I like when people let you do that. My only beef would be that the menu is small. I only wanted something small but I wasn't interested in the new happy hour menu! I want the soft pretzel or the pork sandwich! :) Prices are great, the beer is awesome and if you aren't aware they have different beers at each place so taste them while you are at each!!! So good!

McMenamins needs to become a little bit more competitive for Happy Hour. A dry cheeseburger with no fries for $5 isn't that great of a deal. Wake up and smell the bacon, brothers.

Went there today for lunch, the menu was pretty boring... So I went for the ginger mushroom soup and tried their margarita ... Soup was good, my fiance's steak wrap was ok and the margarita tasted good but had barely any alcohol. I hope they remodel and revise their menu soon.... Especially with all the new restaurants and food carts popping up next to them with very fun menus!

My family and some out of own friends came here and we all enjoyed. We all had burgers and all of them were very good and we all loved the french fries as well. Our service was pretty bad though. It took almost 5 minutes after we seated ourselves for our waiter to even notice us and then it took almost 10 minutes for drinks, mine taking almost 20 because he kept forgetting to go make it. My daughters food came almost 10 minutes before the rest of us. It took a long time for us to get our check and to pay. The food was fine but the service really killed it for us.

Food was better than average McM's. I had a salad that was fresh and tasty, although the dressing I chose was probably not the best pairing for it. But that's my bad. They had an IPA on tap (rare in my experiences with McM's) that was actually pretty tasty. Husband had a red or bitter with Nebraska in the name, which was also pretty tasty. We were there for a late lunch on a house-hunting weekend day, and the covered patio was pretty chill. We'll definitely be back. if only for the fact that it's one of the few pubs in our neighborhood.

Stopped in to get a burger being it is a McMenamins I know what I will get. The server came up after a few minutes and said hi what can I get you to drink ? The wife orders lemonade and I tell him just a glass of water for me thanks. He looks at me and says hey you can't order off of the happy hour menu if you don't get a drink. I mentioned that I knew that and did not come in for the happy hour menu. Ok but I want to make it clear to you no happy hour prices then. With that he left and 10 min went by before someone else came by to get our order. When she took the order she asked did you order any drinks and I said yep but we have not seen them yet. All in all the food is the same as it is at all of them. But the service at this location could use some improvement.

This is the place to go if you want a really good burger and a beer in SW Portland and you don't want to go into downtown. I've had most of the burgers that they offer and they are all fantastic. I've had several of the beers and, although they are more expensive than my favorite beer at most bars, they are very good and there is a fantastic selection. I can't remember the names of their beers, but I'd recommend their red ale for winter and the raspberry one for summer

Service can be inconsistent, along with the food. Can get crowded during happy hour and for special events. When they're on, it's great. On an off night we hate that this is the only pub option. Fortunately they have many more good days than bad, and they seem to be getting better. It's Hillsdale's pub you kinda have to go, right?

How is McMenamins still in business? The food has consistently gotten worse over the decades and the service was never good to start with. The beer is fine - that's what this place is for, and if you for some reason think it might be a good idea to get a meal here - well, think again. I've lived in Oregon since McMenamins came into existence, and it's always been a disappointment. The fries - today I finally sent them back because they are basically just a stringy mess of oil and not cooked at all. The server told me they are switching to new fries soon, as they've never been able to consistently cook them properly. Well great, but it took decades of service garbage and calling them french fries to get that? I asked for a salad after sending back the fries and they emphasized that they weren't going to charge for the salad. Well, great? But since when would it be acceptable to charge for inedible, improperly prepared food in the first place? Oh, wait, that's what you usually get here, so I guess the answer would be "usually." I remember going to the one over by the Lloyd center just for a salad or tots (which are usually at least cooked) as it was across the street from my apartment and they couldn't figure out how to get the soda mixture right FOR YEARS - they always apologized and said they were having trouble with it, but c'mon, it's not that hard and it doesn't take years to figure it out. My wife asked for no red onions and no mustard on her sandwich. Guess what the sandwich came covered in? Red onions and mustard. I have a friend who calls McMenamins "McMarginals," but that would be pretty generous.

I used to come here quite frequently, but it's gotten progressively worse and by "it's" I mean the service. There are a couple of servers here who are pretty awesome, but the majority of them just ruin the entire experience. It's really a shame when the servers could care less about their jobs. One guy completely forgot our food order and this was when there were only three other patrons. We didn't bother to remind him because he brought us our check (saying, "take your time") before we could say anything. He even said that all he wanted to do was make money. No big deal, right? I have a job in order to make money, but I wouldn't announce that fact in front of my customers. A different time, my boyfriend asked for the gardenburger with a side of fries and the guy replied, "you want fries, tots, salad, or soup with that?" Hmm. The thing is, the bad service experiences haven't just happened once, but on numerous occasions. I love McMenamins, but I've had too many sub-par experiences at this particular location and definitely won't be back.

Very McMenamins - nice and slow service, and average food with a cool and fun atmosphere (although I've definitely been to many McMenamins with a much more enjoyable atmosphere). I just wish that they would change up their menu, and get some better beers. Is that too much to ask? I mean, what would be cooler than hanging out with your cool friends in a fun place, drinking some GOOD beer, and eating some DELICIOUS food? Nada, that's what. If you're just looking to enjoy the company that you're with, and don't care that the beer that you are drinking isn't really all that tasty, then this is your place. If you want to eat and drink something good - then go somewhere else.

Don't even bother. There's better places to get some food or drink. Food here is mediocre. It's another McMenamins. We had a birthday party here once - didn't turn out too well. The waitress appeared new and kept messing up nonstop. This place is lame. Their beer isn't even worth coming here for.

Had lunch with two friends here...didn't try the beer or anything. The cheeseburger was average at best and the fries weren't that good. The service was pretty good....it was a slow day. The atmosphere was cozy and kind of cabin-like inside.

I had the worst cheeseburger of my entire life here the other day. Grease on grease, extremely poor quality beef, no redeeming condiments/toppings, and the fries... oh man, were they bad. Cold, floppy, greasy, and just.... ew. What a waste of money.

Wilbur burger with tots, nitro porter x 2, seat at the bar. NBA finals on the flat screen and great service. My favorite pub in Portland!

The Hillsdale McMenamins is exactly what you would expect, great happy hour menu, free wi-fi, it's a great place to have a meeting where you can spread out some papers and talk business. The servers are attentive without swarming. The beer is good, the drinks are stiff (I recommend that McMenamins herbal liquor, it's delicious!), the people are neighborhood types. It's nice and nothing fancy. Nice place to hit up at the end of a workday.
