Probably to far north for good Mexican food.

Every time I come here, I'm always happy. Although, their was one waiter who was rude and slow. However, I've been to Mazatlan about 3 times in the past month and my food is always good and I'm never disappointed with service. The chips and dips are always fresh. Love this place, Can't wait to come back!

It's way too easy to find Mexican food that's much worse than this in Oregon. Mazatlán is a decent place to get decent American-Mexican staples. Meats, cheese, sauces and corn/flour tortillas (mostly flour, of course) rearranged in different combinations. Not very authentic to anything truly Mexican but tasty nonetheless. Chips and salsa are freely brought to the table which is, strangely enough, not standard practice in Oregon. An added bonus is the separate 'cantina' area. It's a nice refuge from the loud and annoying family groups with unruly kids that seem to haunt the place. Service is okay and it's a bit pricey for what it is but such is the Pacific Northwest. The further one gets from the Mexican border the further the quality, authenticity and value of Mexican food plummets. The truth hurts sometimes. (shrug)

This restaurant has maybe the best salsa I've ever had! Like any other Mexican restaurant, they serve chips & salsa before you order, and i had to physically restrain myself from filling up on the awesome salsa. Its got a smoky flavor...trust me, its awesome. I ordered the Deluxe Burrito Manadero and it was very good and very large: enough for two small meals.

My second time at Mazatlan, and I have to say, I do see more of it in my future. Salsa and chips, tasty, mild salsa with fresh warm chips, can't get better than that. Ask for bean dip, wow, amazing! I had a chimichanga for the first time, and I loved it!

I enjoy a Mexican restaurant every once in awhile. Nothing bad to say about the food, very typical actually. I enjoyed the chips and dip (even guac) but i'm giving 3 stars because my water glass was not clean and there was stuff floating around in it. Gross.

I would give Mazatlan 6 damn stars for its history. In addition to better-than-good Mexican food, it have loyally served the St. Anthony's community, and Tigard High sports communities for decades. It's wonderful and friendly staff remain consistently rad, along with its prices, and its famous 2 for 1 combination coupon. Rep to OG Tigard grub.

Craving authentic ämerican"mexican, so we stopped here on a rainy Portland night. First impression was that the place looks a little tired. I did like the bean dip that came with the chips, but the chips seemed a little stale? I ordered the carne asada tacos. Super disappointed when they came and it looked like the tacos were flour instead of corn and all that was inside was little chopped pieces of beef. No sauce, nothing. There was guacamole, sour cream and pico de gallo on the side, but the tacos were sadly stark and dry. I noticed that there was a choice of beans with the dish, but we were not asked for our choice and received refried. I typically order black beans. My husband got a chicken enchilada and he liked it. Nice and cheesy. Just disappointing given my craving earlier in the evening.

Trusting the Mazatlan name in the Portland-metro area, we stopped in after a Costco trip. Let's just say my margarita is rimmed with table salt and tastes like it came out of a jug. Our enchiladas were very bland and the beans were room temperature. I would avoid this restaurant if I was you!

Hitting this place up for lunch for the 4th week in a row and I am loving it, they have a sweet lunch menu with good food at low prices. I have enjoyed my chicken enchiladas and chicken quesadillas! You can bet I will be back next week!

My wife, my sister, two of my children, and I came to this place yesterday (7/11), and it was not a very pleasant experience at all. It was mid-afternoon, and it was apparent that the staff felt inconvenienced by our arrival. Once seated, we had to wait 10-15 minutes just to get water and drinks ordered. Then, after another 10-15 minutes, the waitress arrived with a scowl on her face.... dark circles under the eyes, eyebrows crooked, and mouth positioned with the gesture of bother, as if she were thinking, "well, okay, I guess you want to order; we were enjoying our break with no customers, but you all had to show up"... I felt bad for my kids, for they were starving, and due to the stupid, idiotic, selfish attitude of the waitress, they were both trembling as if they were desperate for something edible. The only pleasant part was the waiter who showed up at the end, Jesus...he should have been our waiter all along. The waitress and her hostess should be reprimanded for their terrible attitude and customer no-service, and fired!!!

2nd try... FAIL You'd think with 6 people helping tables, someone would bring some water, or chips, or hot tortillas... or take our order.. My boyfriend had to stand up and ask for these things three times before we were just ready to leave... then we got home and i felt not so good. I spent the better part of two days on the toilet.. We won't be back

Two stars for decent food. Not the most amazing food I have ever had - but decent, cheesy, standard Mexican/American food. That being said - the service here is atrocious. I didn't write a review after my first time here, thinking "hey, maybe someone was having an off day, it totally happens, I'll just let it go". Even though the wait time to get WATER was over 15 minutes. During no sort of rush period at all. Came back about two months later with a friend for a late lunch (arrived at maybe 12:45 pm). Seated promptly and given chips with beans and salsa. Water followed fairly quickly. The waitress then asked if we were ready. What with catching up with my friend and being seated less than 5 minutes before, I was unfortunately not. Both ordered iced tea. Another patron was seated in our section (this made a grand total of three people). We did not see another employee of the restaurant for another 30 minutes. Finally the woman who had been seated after us went INTO the kitchen to find someone (since there was absolutely no one anywhere to be seen). A waitress then hurried out to take our orders. No apology, no "oh wow, I'm so flustered!", nothing. A few seconds later, the ice tea came out. Food came very, very quickly, but the waitress disappeared again. Didn't see her again until I had to find the waitress to get our check. Bottom line - if you have A LOT of time and you REALLY want mediocre Mexican, the food is alright. If you are hungry, anywhere else is better. I would even make the trip out to Si Señor in Beaverton for their service.

For a Mexican food chain, this place is pretty darn good. Awesome food, fantastic service, best Mexican food I've found so far in the Portland area. I ordered their fish tacos on corn tortillas, YUM! So flavorful and fresh! My husband ordered the chimichanga and enchilada platter, he said it was delicious. Portion sizes were huge! We each had enough for lunch the next day. Our server was incredibly friendly and funny. Service was quick, drinks were good, overall, we will definitely be returning.

Chips and salsa were great, food was pretty good, what you would really expect at this type of Mexican restaurant, service was friendly and helpful, and they are very willing to bend the menu to serve you what you want. I quite enjoyed it, and will be back!

All the food was great. The salsa was very tasty and spicy (just like I like it). It is hard to find good Mexican food, I will definitely be back here.

Before coming to this place, go to one of those nerdy game stores and pick up a twenty-sided die normally reserved for Dungeons & Dragons players. Roll it and that's the meal combo for you to eat. It doesn't matter what the outcome is because it all tastes the same anyway. Food: 2 Service: 5 Ambiance: 2 Value: 4 TL;DR: Good people, meh food, half-assed review

This is my favorite Mexican food restaurant. I usually judge a Mexican food restaurant by its chips and salsa. The chips and salsa are amazing and so is the food. My favorite dish is the Chicken fajitas. I recommend you try this place at least once

We found this place by way of location and decided to venture out for lunch after a long morning of learning Spanish at a continuing class. This location was close to PCC's sylvania campus so it fit the bill. Service was quick and efficient and the young waiter was pleasant in his demeanor. I found the restaurant to be very clean throughout with special attention to the cleanliness of the bathroom. For lunch my girlfriends and I each had a margarita, I has the jalapeño flavored one, which was good but not a knock- your-socks off. Lunch was chicken tacos al carbon and my chicken had a great grilled flavor and cooked well but not too try. We were in and out in an hour which made us happy!

NEVER AGAIN! 2 inch long mexican centipede*google it** was climbing on the wall behind my father. They tried to catch it in a drinking glass, but it ran and fell behind my father! Demanding that I was leaving, they joked about cooking it and putting it in the food. After we paid the $43 tab, they just cleaned up the table and left the bug on the floor. I was appalled that we had to pay our tab, they left the bug, and they joked about cooking it. I will NEVER be back.

OMG I can't believe this place is still in business. The mexican food in Tigard has been lacking good quality for some time. This place is usually busy which astounds me because not only is the food overcooked and dry the service has been questionable. I walked in last week to order food to go and stood in front of two people not doing anything waiting to put an order in at the front desk. The phone rings and one of them starts taking a to go order from the phone after I was standing there for a few minutes with the menu in my hand. Then the other person finally got my body language being disgusted with the hostess taking the phone order before me and asking me to wait. I just said enough I am never coming back no matter what. Plus the food is not even worth taking to go anymore. The place is so old and the bar's TV is something out of a used TV repair shop in this small cramped room. Really a bummer of a place! FLASH ALERT! FOOD AND SERVICE HAVE TURNED AROUND. I just ate there tonight for one last try and it was delicious on 8/17/2010...the tomatillo/green sauce was excellent by my standards and the carne asada tacos ala carte were made to order rare with pico de gallo and guacomole and the chips were fresh, warm and crunchy. OUTSTANDING! thanks guys now back to Los Angeles. Edit - Delete

Went there for lunch last weekend & had a chicken enchilada lunch. It was reasonably priced at around $8. The meal came with rice & beans as well as some delicious enchiladas. The enchilada sauce was good and they didn't skimp on the sauce or cheese. I would recommend going for lunch as the lunch specials are quite cheap..... Also the waiter was friendly and attentive....

I'm wavering... the food is about 3 stars, but the service was a 4.5, so I went with 4 stars. I went here on Saturday night with family friends from out of town who are huge college football fans. Decision maker (he was paying) = my friend's dad. He wanted to watch the Fresno vs. Wisconsin college match-up (they're UofHawaii fans and cheer for the WAC) and for some reason, the staff at the Hilton Garden Inn in Lake O couldn't make ESPN 2 work in our room. Here's how the "where do we eat?" conversation went: Me: So, we've narrowed our choices down to Mazatlan or The Sports Page. Friend's mom: Why two places? Me: Well, we have to find out if it is more important to watch the game, or eat Mexican food. Friend: Dad, do you want eat at a Mexican place, or at a sports bar? Friend's dad: Well, it'd be best if the Mexican place had a sports bar. *Laughter* Friend's sister's BF calls Mazatlan: Do you have a bar? *pause* Is there a TV in the bar? *pause* Do you get ESPN 2? *pause* We might be there to watch the game. *Hangs up.* Friend's Dad: So, let's go! We got to Mazatlan and immediately headed to the Cantina where the game was already on. They let us pull some tables together and it was perfect. The bartender was great. He was also our server (they have a full menu in the bar) and he waited until commercial breaks to take our orders and check on us. He was also cool about us staying until almost closing to watch the end of the game. (Fresno lost, so it was sad.) I totally got jammed because I don't know how to order Mexican food and I didn't order the dish that I thought I was ordering. But, my Chile Colorado platter was pretty good. Everyone seemed to enjoy their food. It came very quickly and everyone else got what they were expecting. The strawberry margaritas were great - all flavors were well balanced! And others seemed happy with their bloody marys - although one had 3 olives and one had 2 - there was almost a fight (haha, just kidding). All-in-all it was a good place for us. I don't know much about Mexican food (I thought I was getting a burrito, not a platter), but this place satisfied and didn't leave anyone feeling ill later. There were plenty of leftovers for the girls, and the guys said they were full. I'd probably go again if someone else wanted to go, but I don't think I'd make a special trip here. That said, their service was great and my friends were impressed (they're sticklers for good customer service). Best part: .. we were able to fulfill the wishes of the guy who treated us all to dinner!

Yuck! That pretty much sums it up. Ate here for lunch a couple of weeks ago and pretty much have to agree with the other poor reviews that the food is terrible. The salsa is tasteless tomato soup, and re fried beans as a dip? Don't waste your money.

Stopped for dinner last night on the way home from the airport (kind a traditional thing for us). Having said that, it is fairly obvious that we have eaten here before and it has always been pretty good. But last night... Maybe I should start with the good stuff, after all I did give it one star. Service was excellent. We were seated right away, server was polite and attentive. So,we started off on the right foot. Chips, salsa, and bean dip were there almost immediately, and were very good - no problem getting refills. Thus, the first star is complete and we were looking forward to dinner. Then disaster struck! We both ordered the Tortilla Soup. I love Tortilla Soup, even make it myself, which, by the way, is five stars! Anyway, who cares about me. Back to Mazatlan. The soup arrived and from the first spoonful it was terrible, not just bad, terrible. How should I describe it? It was as if they put a sprinkling of grilled chicken pieces in chicken stock, floated three slices of avocado on top, then tossed in some uncooked tortilla strips. I know there was cheese somewhere because it stuck to the spoon, but there was not enough to alter the taste of the high salt content of the chicken stock. And because they didn't bake, fry, whatever, the tortilla strips, they were a soggy mess. I'm not sure I can say anything more about this mess they call Tortilla Soup, other than DO NOT order it! You have been warned, so may the force be with you.

Quite a bit of pretty good food (tried the chicken enchiladas, super burrito, chips, salsa, bean dip). Prices are around $12 a plate and that is my second biggest complaint. The biggest complaint is the service. The refills on drinks and chips are sluggish if it's not busy and nearly nonexistent if it is busy.

The bar is great, well done on the drinks. The Monterey shrimp and homemade chili relleno are amazing. Do it.

PROS: Happy Hour til 7:30, plenty of seating, Cantina was near empty; they have plasmas for watching sports, staff is friendly and attentive. CONS: Just your average "Americanized" Mexican food. Nothing superior by any means. $2.50 for a side of sour cream!? Lame. Overall nothing bad about this place. Plenty of menu items to choose from that's for sure. I liked that they brought both mild & spicy salsa out. They also give you beans to dip your chips in. Chips were fresh and warm...as they could be anyways. Salsas were good. Ordered a combo meal that I could only eat about half of...came with a chicken enchilada, beef taco, and tostada. Both the beef and chicken were flavorful and not really greasy. This I can appreciate. HH only had food specials that I could see. What erked me a bit was that HH plasic signage was only displayed on top of the bar...and in small print. I didn't even realize until after I placed my order. I was in the Cantina in a booth where no sign of HH was displayed. Guess I should have asked. Oh well, lesson learned. My combo meal is enough for 2 and it cost $11.50. Not terrible.

Mmmmm, Mazatlan. I used to work close by here & get in here a few times a month. I still seek it out whenever I am in that area. The Chicken Diabla? Diablo? Whatever...is delicious. Great margaritas and chips and salsa with a side of beans. I love the places that do that. Friendly, fast service. Yeah, I will continue to come here when I'm in the area!

A solid 3 stars. I would even call give it a additional 1/2 star if it were an option. There is nothing imaginative about the food or decor. It's exactly how you would imagine the food would be and taste and styled like many other Mexican restaurant. However, where this place excels is in service, price and speed. Also if you can request Louis as your server. He was funny and attentive.

The salsa is delish!!! The food never takes to long. But than again, what Mexican restaurant does? Great margaritas too! So I hear.

My family loves this place. We have two small kids and the staff is very friendly and flexible for giving us what we want for the kids, even if it's not necessarily on the menu. The food is great, portions large and chips warm. I love the salsa also. Pollo Mazatlan is great and so are the enchilads verdes.

Christ on a cracker, this is one of the worst dining experiences I've had in my life. Let's start with the service- 1. extremely unprofessional, and we were talked to in a way that made me feel like I was Ned Flanders and she was Homer Simpson. Biiiitchy. Ripped jeans and a shirt so tight we could see the chest hair of the server who brought our food out, and we couldn't get anyone to speak above a mumble. The food itself was about the consistency of Taco Bell, which seemed somewhat appropriate since there was a Taco Bell right across the parking lot. Taco Bell would have been tastier. What we got was a puddle of red grease with some mushrooms floating in it instead of delicious fajitas. I revisited those fajitas later that night. Ugh. It honestly tasted like someone had just scraped these out of a can. No flavor, no texture... for $22, I think I was robbed. Save yourself some trouble and just go to Taco Bell instead, guys.

Fool me once, shame on you... fool me twice, shame on me. Shame on me for going to this place a second time. The first time someone brought me here, it was with the alluring promise of delicious fajitas. WRONG. Can you say "sauce made from packet of seasoning?" I never take restaurant or food suggestions from that "friend" anymore. The second time was today. My coworkers decided to go out to lunch here and invited me along. Mistake 1: I said yes. Mistake 2: I ate the food. This is the kind of Mexican food I try my best to avoid. The food looks and tastes nothing like the food in Mexico does. Its over-cheesed, over-sauced, and under-good. The refried beans are like paste. The tortillas lack imagination. They serve their burritos (I know, burritos are more tex mex than mex) with the beans and rice on the inside, and the salsa and guac on the outside. I prefer mine made the opposite way: meat, salsa, guac on the inside, no beans, no rice. They agreed to put the beans/rice on the outside, but couldn't bring themselves to put the salsa and guac on the inside. Oh well, I said, as I choked down the nasty slop that is this food. If you like fake American-Mexican food, you'll love this place. Put your party hat on and get ready for some cheezy, pasty-bean gorgefest. If you respect yourself enough to put good food in your gullet, then drive about 4 blocks further south to Tres Hermanos and pay half the price for 10-times the quality.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
