Horrible and scary! I asked for extra rice and pico, the waitress brings out my plate of rice stirring it which instantly make us paranoid. The rice came with a spoon that was heavily used and greasy. She keeps coming by the table asking if everything is okay with a maniacal smile. Then we get the bill and she keeps coming to the table every 30 seconds asking for her copy, I guess wanting her tip. This is the second time we have been here and it's the last. Asked for medium carne asada and it was stiff as a board. Just bad food and bad service. Salsa sucks too...sorry just saying.

If you want VERY american Mexican food this place is decent. Lots of cheese and sauce. I like that they have super mild salsa since the regular table salsa is often to hit for me. I usual order the vegetarian platter which is huge! Enough for 2/3. But I would never get anything authentic there. Not bad not good. If your craving cheese go here.

The good news is the food is good. The salsa and the beans are authentic. I ordered a burrito and it was more like a stuffed tortilla. It was not fully wrapped so I couldn't pick it up. But the flavor was great. It was a bit small if you are hungry. But it hit the spot for lunch. The place is clean and the staff very friendly. I would definitely come back!

They redeemed themselves! I went here again and the service was good and the food was great. I recommend the veggie fajitas. I'm happy that I have them another chance because the food is really good.

Had the carne asada which was good, my lady had the tortilla soup which was also decent. The margarita (large) tasted super weak and had not much tequila and much mix. almost too sour to drink. For $10 you can do better. Some of the other locations offer the bean dip complimentary. we had to ask for it. The service was nice though. We did enjoy the dinner. A 3rd star would be for better drinks. Mexican food as a whole is really hard to screw up and doesnt take much culinary talent at least with these types of places that serve primarily spanish rice, beans, and some sort of meat.

The restaurant is in a strip mall and the outside didn't make it seem like it would be a good place to eat, however it was delicious. We came right at closing and they were still super nice and served us well. I got the chicken enchiladas and there was so much chicken inside of it. Super good food and margaritas. The prices were kind if high for Mexican food in a strip mall (maybe because I'm from Texas and Mexican food is usually cheaper). But overall, good place to fill my craving for Mexican food.

The staff was quick and friendly. The gentleman saw that I couldn't tolerate spicy salsa, and brought me mild. I had the chicken enchiladas de crema. They were tasty and chicken was moist. I'm a very picky eater, I would recommend this place. Atmosphere decent. Staff friendly!

Had a nondescript dinner experience here last night. Chips were stale, although salsa was great, as usual. Entrees were served quickly, but weren't overly warm OR flavorful. We've patronized them for 9 years; may not be back. Service was OK, although constantly hearing high-speed, high-volume wait staff Spanish is kind of off-putting. Since the remodel,we prefer bar seating not only because it seems a bit more private, but because the bar staff seem quite a bit more professional/competent. We were seated at a table instead; should have waited for the bar.

Came here for my birthday today....enjoyed it very much...the service was excellent...I ordered a 3 enchalada meal...i asked for 2 cheese and 1 pork even though pork wasnt listed and was told sure they could do it...was very happy with the result and I think I've found my new fave Mex restaurant...I also liked the salsa though if your not into spicy than be careful cause it was a touch on the spicy side, but that's how I like it...

I've eaten at Mazatlan multiple times and enjoyed my meal however tonight was a unique situation. I ordered a burrito with vegetables and shrimp. The woman serving me stated 'if you want shrimp in the burrito there will be an extra charge of $1.00 per shrimp'. I ordered three shrimp and sure enough there was an extra charge of three dollars. I assumed on the off chance the shrimp would be of the larger tiger variety but alas they were small. I have never ever heard of being charged per shrimp when it came to burritos so I have to give it one star. I spoke to the owner Rene who mentioned that they don't let people eat for free. I explained that was a straw man argument as my complaint had to do with charging patrons a dollar per shrimp, not a bid for free food. Rene then stated that I can eat elsewhere if I thought get their prices were high. I was respectable during our discourse and didn't feel my observation warranted such a rude and ignoble reply. As I consider Portland to be the foodie capital of America I'll take money to a more deserving place, and maybe you should too...

This is some of the best food in town. Shhhh . The staff has been there for a long time. They make birthdays special and are always on top of things. Did I mention it is very affordable for the entire family and clean too. We love Puerto Mazatlan

Fast, Faster, Fastest, Fastest of ALL time! I know that cheese enchiladas are a pretty easy dish. take your tortilla, throw some shredded cheese in it, roll it up, place on plate, sandwich between a huge serving of refried beans, and a healthy portion of rice, and then pour some sauce over it. But I have never gotten my food so quickly! And while this is most impressive, this isn't even the best thing about Mazatlan! Their salsa! They make their own salsa. Thank you! Thank you so much. And homemade tortilla chips- you rock! The food was very simple, served very fast by our amigo waiter, and was worth every penny of the cheap price. Also, if you come for dinner, print out one of the coupons on their website first- for $5-6 off your tab! :)

I love this Mazatlan! The staff are so friendly and attentive. The drinks are amazing! The food is best described as Mexican comfort food. I've never had a bad experience here. I take my family here because the kids menu is great. I come with my girl friends for girls night because the margaritas are fantastic!

My family and I love this place. In the 15 years we have been coming here, we have never been unsatisfied. The food is always great, and the drinks are awesome. But the best part is the service. As soon as you walk through the door you are greeted and treated like family and that really makes the experience amazing. I can't say enough great things about this restaurant.

Mazatlan has some of the most authentic-tasting Mexican food I've had in Oregon so far. I've tried a handful of other places that people swear to have authentic Mexican cuisine but all have fallen short. You can tell that the salsa is made fresh in-house because it isn't that gooey jarred salsa kind that tastes like tomato paste with some onion and cilantro thrown in. The service is very fast and attentive. But be warned, they are almost too diligent about tending to the table. I felt like every time I took a sip out of my water the server was there refilling it. And there are only so many times you can ask me if I need anything else or if everything is okay. But I guess I've rather have servers who are more attentive than not, so I shouldn't complain. I did have one incident where the server misheard my order and I had to send it back. Instead of being apologetic and taking it back right away, he tried to argue with me a bit about him writing down what I said and that what he had given me was what I had ordered. But since I've received nothing but great service otherwise, I wrote it off as an isolated incident. The food itself tastes fresh and carefully made. Also, since this place is never really busy the food comes out in record time. I'd also like to point out that each time I've ordered a cocktail there they come out very consistent - which can be hard to find sometimes, even at a bar.

Perfect small Mexican Retaurant. The staff is super friendly and my husband and I have been coming here for at least two years. Prices are good and the food is yummy. They serve really good home made salsa too! I wouldn't recommend it if you are looking for a 'foodie' Mexican experience, but if you are in the mood for some comfort food and a Margarita it is the best. Their new bar area is pretty nice too.

Our favorite Mexican restaurant! Very family friendly, or a great place to grab drinks with friends! The service is very fast and friendly. The food is great, and the margaritas are the best!

Rene is the owner/operator. Make sure you get the Linda's Margarita because it's named after me. I've been going here for years and years! I'm from San Jose, California, closer to the border, and this Mexican food is as close as it gets to the Real Deal. The salsa is the best and you get medium and mild at the table with delicious warm chips. I feel this restaurant is under-rated and not enough people outside of Tigard know about their fine mexican food and Margaritas. I love, love, love this restaurant for their food, their service and the good people who work here!

This is your totally generic, totally average, covered in cheeses, "mexican" food. This doesn't hold a candle to the smaller authentic Mexican places around town.

After a long morning at OHSU and a long drive ahead to get home, we set out in search of lunch and stumbled across Mazatlan. It was surprisingly empty for it being lunch hour, but we were seated right away. I had the flautas meal and it was excellent! The staff was so friendly and the prices were surprisingly reasonable. One of the best Mexican restaurants I have ever been to!!

This place doesn't look like much on the outside, but don't let that fool you! Its got a great atmosphere, friendly staff and delicious food. The portions are massive. I especially enjoyed their al pastor tacos, and the pollo de la crema. The house margarita uses good tequila, and an excellent margarita mix. It's my favorite on the menu of margaritas, which includes many different options. Give this place a shot! The food comes quick, and there's never a wait on a weeknight.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
