What a lovely place. A fine Americano and a tasty ham and gruyere quiche. Nice farmhouse-y decor, quiet, calm atmosphere... less the annoying old woman on the conference call, but she finally shut up, so judgmental contempt has passed and rustic coffeehouse zen has returned. Just passing through Portland, but this adds to my desire to return and discover other like establishments. PS. Just finished the quiche. Delicately soft egg, nicely portioned cheese and bacon, impressively flaky crust. Way better than I expected from a coffeehouse. Actually way better than I get at most french bistros in NYC. Well done, Maplewood.

Tricky to find but well worth hunting for. This cafe has it all - friendly service, chill vibe, high quality drinks, delicious pastries, a separate area for kids and variety of items offered. Maplewood is by far the best coffee shop in the Multnomah Village/Hillsdale/Garden Home area. I am so glad I finally discovered this place as it will be my go-to coffee shop from now on. My only tiny gripe is that I wish they were open earlier. I start work at 7:00 a.m. on the weekdays so I'd never be able to go before work. And 8:00 a.m. on weekends seems really darn late, as I'm a morning person and like to have my coffee first thing.

We are so happy to have this adorable little coffee shop in our neighborhood. Maplewood Coffee and Tea is in the front of a beautiful old home, that was once an old time neighborhood market. The front/side porch is well used as lovely outdoor seating. They have good coffee, I believe it's Stumptown, Dragonfly Chai(yum), and a tasty assortment of savory and sweet items from Petunia's Pies and Pastries, and The Bake Shop. I'm in love with the Spicy Chai, and Buckwheat Figgy Scones. There is lots of local art for sale, quite a few board games to play, and a bulletin board full of neighborhood activities and job/services postings. Maplewood Coffee and Tea is a great place for a quick stop in, or to spend some time chilling out with friends, as well as a good place to hang out and get some work done.

What a neat place to enjoy some good coffee or tea. I wish every neighborhood had a something like this. It looks like just another house on the block in this cute little hood but hiding inside is a pretty good coffee/tea stop. They use Stumptown for the coffee and so it's quite tasty and the sourced good quality tea as well. There is a good amount of space in the main room and a really large play space for kids tucked away in the back too which is very thoughtful for families and for customers who don't want kids running around up front while they work or read. The staff is nice and overall it't just a charming little spot and I think it will be my new goto for coffee around here, beats the hell out of Starbucks.

Just moved to the neighborhood and I work from home...first thing on the list find a coffee sop I can get some work done at. Walked in and it was automatically so cozy. The girls working and super sweet. Made sure to let me know that free refills with coffee if you are sitting, and a punch card! I've been here sitting about an hour and decided to have the quiche. HOLY MOLY!! AMAZING!! I could have ate like 5 pieces. Today was goat cheese and it literally just melted in your mouth. This is going to be my new go to place! Can't wait to come back!!

This in my humble opinion is the nicest coffee spot in the multnomah village area. It has a homelike vibe(probably because it's in what looks to be an old house/general store type of building) but also plays good tunes(at a low volume) giving it just enough life. Great coffee and noshes available of course...oh and there's wifi. Peace!

It took me decades but I finally found a fabulous space for coffee and company in Portland. A friend recommended Maplewood as it is in our neighborhood and I had the pleasure of going on St. Patrick's day...a little impromptu Irish violin and flute with a lovely lass dancing which was charming and unexpected. Maplewood is very unassuming and they have regulars and followers. An interesting mix and blend of people and I report that it is sans hipsters or wannabes. I foresee a great place to bring work and people watch. Mostly locals, some self employed with laptops and tablets, table talkers, students, and just a good mix of folks. Very relaxed scene and laid back staff without bordering on blasé and indifferent - which seems to be the Portland style present day. Coffee good and I believe they are moving into Stumptown, always a good choice. Portland coffee scene can get overbearing and annoying but Maplewood is just solid and welcoming without all the pretense or bullshit. Service is lovely and I love they have an honor system for drip coffee. There's a special section just for children and I am a devoted fan of that as most coffee places turn ugly when there are screaming kids and typical oblivious parents that allow their darling to scream and claw all over the place. They serve wine and have little small events. Outside patio. Rumor has it the structure used to be a post office and general store back in the day.

If you want a perfectly made latté, a cozy, warm atmosphere, and a play area for your kids, you will LOVE this place. I absolutely adore the fact that it's in a neighborhood setting. It's in an old house they converted. They have a completely separate area for kids to play. Perfect for toddlers and Mamas (and Daddies!) to come. They also have an amazing assortment of pastries and lunch items when you're on-the-go. I also recently discovered they rent their space as well. Check this place out! You won't be disappointed.

So happy I stumbled on this tucked away little piece of Heaven. Affordable , excellent staff, Stumptown coffee and delicious gluten free treats aren't even the best things. It's the warm feeling of this cozy coffee shop that I get when I go there! This place is a must visit!

So, it's even better than before, there's a huge dedicated play area for kids called "the Nest". Its great, parents can sit, relax and sip coffee and wiggly babies can "free range" and play with the toys. The large picturesque windows frame a "living room" like experience that makes you feel right at home. Love it! They also added beer and wine but, it is not allowed in the Nest....oh well, can't have everything, right?

I met my friend to study here this morning, and I'm glad I did. The workers were friendly, the atmosphere was pleasant, and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves and their food/drinks. I had the white lavender tea, which was served loose-leaf in a pot with a small cup and was delicious. My friend ordered oatmeal, which looked great. I'll definitely be returning.

Super cute neighborhood coffeehouse with free wi-if, kids room, and adequate tables to chat/ read. Good pastry options (love Bakeshop, Two Tarts, and Petunia selection). Recommend to anyone in the area looking for a place to relax.

It is a little tricky to find the place if you haven't been here before. There is also parking for a couple of cars tucked in at the front of the building. Cassie is a great barista! She was very friendly and courteous to all the customers while I was there.

Although I do wish they had a larger food menu, this is my instant-favorite new coffeehouse! The vibe there is genuinely friendly; both staff and customers. Haven't found this kind of vibe anywhere else nearby. Closest thing I've found to the neighborhood "pub" I went to in Britain that really was an all-ages friendly place to be around other people. It is in a residential neighborhood, be respectful of the neighbors.

A fantastic community based coffee shop. They carry a great selection of coffee drinks and tea. The oatmeal is delicious and a go-to for me! They truly live up to being a member of the community, I love this!

Our neighborhood coffee house is lovely. The owner ,Jo , has embraced the neighborhood in a warm hug with her attention to our small community values. She restored the shop in the 1900's style it deserved since it was originally the Maplewood store and post office. Warm and welcoming ! The coffee and teas are great. The New York times and the Oregonian are a nice accompaniment to the warm drinks and yummy quality pastries. Try the buckwheat and fig scones. And there is a kid friendly space separated from the front space. They offer wine and beer until 7:00 on weekends. This place is worth the neighborhood walk or a drive from another neighborhood to experience a hidden gem.

Adorable old home converted into a coffee shop. Great service & delicious expresso cake. I don't have any kiddos yet but when I make some, I'm totally bringing them back so they can play in the Nest :)

Such a cute little neighborhood coffee shop. The last time I was in was around fall I think and it happened to be "Figgy Friday" the girl working there had printed off a bunch if recipes that included figs in them and encouraged customers to follow the trail out back and pick some figs for free ad take a recipe to try. My latte was great and the service was exceptional.

We made our first trip to this place today.. A little more of a walk than we were expecting, but well worth the trip. The service was great, the girl behind the counter was upbeat, the coffee was great and the pastries were delicious. I think if you had something inappropriate to discuss or decided to take your spouse there to serve them divorce papers it would definitely lack the privacy you need.. But if you are the type of person who likes friendly conversation with strangers.. This is a great place for it! Some guy on here was complaining about the music.. He must have bad taste. My only nitpick would be the pastries would be better warmed.. But that's just me and I never asked if it was a possibility! We will definitely be back.

Best coffee place in Multnomah/Maplewood. They serve Stumptown and posses the equipment and attention to detail to make a great espresso. I don't usually eat but had the bran muffin once and it was delicious.

I love this coffee shop. It's super cute and it has that small town coffee shop vibe. The first time I went in they welcomed me and asked if I was visiting or new to the area. OK a little creepy but that's now personal they are... they know all their customers. Their coffee is AMAZING!! It takes a while to get it because they put so much care and detail in every cup. It's seriously a masterpiece. They are also family friendly. Lots of stuff for littles to play with. Great ambiance, excellent coffee, and a small town feel. Love it!!!

What a great, peaceful, neighborhood place. Country store meets smart, clean modern, simple... Great pastry selection, including a good array of gluten free, and Stumptown coffee. Since I frequent and often work for hours in coffee shops, my environment is of the utmost importance. Lots of wood, wainscotting, etc. Great windows looking out into the Portland winter green treed neighborhood. Apparently a renovated old general store that had been a residence since the 70's. Simple classical guitar music... Feels good to be here. You could be studying, on a computer, or meeting with people and it would be an easy place to be. The barista was sharp, kind, comfortable in the surroundings. Enjoyed the experience - will be here more regularly. One thing - I'm surprised it's not busier. While I hope more people support the business, I also hope it maintains this atmosphere.

I am in a dilemma writing this review, because this coffee shop is such a hidden gem. I usually drive all around for good coffee+good pastries+good place to read/study, most of the time when the coffee shop fulfills the first two, they would get really popular so I cannot occupy a big table or focus on my own things when the crowd gets too loud. Maplewood has all three, quiet neighborhood, convenient enough, lovely homey atmosphere, nice staff, great for reading/studying, delicious pastries(some are house-made!) and coffee on the top of everything. I am a bit concerned if this place would lose it's unique quality when too many people know about it, so please don't tell people outside your trust circle. Just kidding.

Pleasant neighborhood coffee shop with good drinks and pastries. A nice place to meet-up. Not an abundance of seating but people seemed generally amenable to sharing tables. Adjacent to Maplewood elementary, their were lots of moms with toddlers playing throughout the shop-- not peaceful, but friendly.

I love this cozy charming coffeehouse. Much attention goes into every aspect- the food, drinks, music, ambience, the baristas. As for the food, the selection of all items culminate from exhaustive tastings of all the top bakers around the local region. You can be sure that you are choosing from among the best quality in the area. The same attention to excellence and detail applies to the coffee. They are very knowledgable. In short, you can expect the finest coffee drinks. Also, there is a very impressive selection of teas from Foxfire teas. And there is oatmeal! I love oatmeal. The toppings to choose from are made from scratch using top-grade ingredients. I always enjoy spending time at Maplewood. I feel comfortable and well taken care of. The interior has a quaint, warm historic aesthetic. I strongly recommend finding out for yourself what a gem this place is.

Love this place! What a welcome addition to the neighborhood! The pastries are delicious, the coffee is perfect every time, the baristas are so sweet and helpful. They do everything they can to get your order just the way you want it. They have wifi and big tables, perfect for spending a morning or afternoon working, drinking coffee, and eating a variety of yummy goods, from quiches to scones to muffins. Their hours a little limited, in my opinion, only because I'd love to work there after school (I'm a teacher). I am just glad they're open all summer when I need to do some planning but don't want to go into school quite yet!

Terrific service, excellent pastry, wonderful atmosphere, comfortable seating, tasteful decor, delicious coffee and tea. My only regret is that they aren't next to my home.

I really wanted to like this place. The old building is lovely with old wood floors. However, it is less than cozy and sparsely furnished. The Cashier and Barista seemed completely lost and inexperienced, slightly overwhelmed by the three orders placed. They weren't that friendly and had to ask a couple of times to confirm the orders. The pastry offerings were minimal but did look good. The coffee was just average. The Cappuccino was sadly lacking in foam. This place has so much potential but they need to make some overall improvements and advertise the heck out of it, considering its tucked-away location.

Relaxing atmosphere, staff is as friendly as it gets. Im amazed how everyone, including the patrons, are nice and welcoming to one another. Great place to do homework as they have accessible outlets and WiFi, or even read a book next to the giant window. During the drier, warmer months outside seating is available in the garden out back or the porch. Very community oriented with events like craft night and yoga happening every so often.

What a charming place! Maplewood Coffee and Tea is both rustic and cozy inside a little house, with delicious teas and coffee drinks and an assortment of wonderful-looking pastries. I hear the oatmeal is fantastic! I didn't try the latter, but I look forward to in the future. Very friendly service, too! This is a wonderfully relaxing place to come read the paper, share time with friends, and savor time and good food and drink.

I love this space. It an old store that is clean and tidy and inviting. It is small , but I've been lucky to be there when most patrons were sitting quietly reading or working on their laptop. Every barista has been friendly. I have noticed a little stress when there is a line, but it doesn't effect the service. the pastries are very good. The coffee is fine. Its the whole package that I love. I love the old store space and apparently others do too!

Great stop on way to downtown Portland from south Beaverton. Wouldn't ever have come across this hidden treasure if not for Yelp. Stumptown lattes made near perfection. All baristas are very friendly.

Really cute coffee shop. I had the large vanilla latte, which was really tasty and a great price. The barista was very helpful and patient with our group of four (indecisive) people. Will definitely go there again. Bonus!! They sell hard boiled eggs for $.75.

  • Ruth L.

Maplewood is one of my go-to local places. Their coffee and espresso are excellent and the baristas are friendly and competent. They have a wide range of both sweet and savory offerings. I especially like the quiches. When I enter this cozy space there is often a feeling of community. It's in a charming neighborhood, and if you are a "dog watcher" like me you can sit by one of the windows and watch people and their wonderful dogs walking by. I have never felt rushed there. I am looking forward to the warmer weather, as there is seating on the porch. The only "down" side is that there are very few electrical outlets available, so if your laptop is a little low on battery time and you want to use it while you sip, this could be a problem.

What a hidden gem, so glad I found this place! I stopped by here for the first time and had a delightful experience. The place is super cozy and I love the dark wood floors. Parking can be tricky, so be prepared to park on a side street. Other than that, I feel like I stumbled upon a secret spot and can't wait to return.

Perfect peaceful neighborhood coffee shop. Simple and elegant, airy and intimate, featuring well-pulled Stumptown and a tasty array of pastries, many gluten-free. In particular, try the rustic tart or the quiche, which is especially smooth and custardy. My wife just told me to stop Yelping it because she's afraid her pet discovery will be trampled by your eager boots, so that's all you're getting from me.

I'm so excited to have a real Portland coffee shop in the neighborhood. On my first visit, I wasn't disappointed. The atmosphere is simple but very comfortable and welcoming. The muffin I had was delicious and the coffee was excellent. I found the staff to be very friendly and welcoming. I really like the neighborhood and local vibe. I look forward to frequenting this establishment to support its presence in the neighborhood.

So cute and so clean. A lovely way to spend the morning. I've been on a Saturday afternoon to study, and was able to find a table, eat something delicious and use their free wi-fi. I also have been on a Saturday morning and had a lovely coffee date and a delicious savory breakfast pastry! Super nice baristas. I love the little flowers that they put in cut jars all over the place. It's such a fun place to be!

I love this coffee shop. It is such a cute, friendly little place. They have great pastries (Bakeshop--same goods sold at 'Salt and Straw'), really good coffee (Stumptown), tea (Firefox), and amazing customer service. When I came in the barista was very friendly and asked several questions to make sure she got my drink 'just right'. She added more vanilla to my latte when I told her it wasn't as sweet as I expected. To my unexpected surprise, the shop even has play dates for moms twice a month. I love this coffee shop, and I will stop here often. So glad I stumbled in!

This truly local coffee house has a clean, pleasant, friendly environment. The baristas are well trained and deliver great coffee. The owner has selected several pastry providers and sometimes gluten free and vegan options are available. A great new addition to our neighborhood.

Maplewood Coffee & Tea is absolutely lovely - I wish I lived nearby! Great space, delicious pastries. I'm not a coffee drinker any more, but the hot choc was good! Seems quite kid-friendly with a bucket of toys and a scheduled playgroup, but oddly, no diaper changing table (at least not when I visited two weeks ago). So if you need to change a diaper, your choices are the floor of the bathroom (ew) or places close to food/tables (also ew).

  • Keena H.

I'm lucky to have such a wonderful shop so close to home. There are many choices that aren't available at other coffee places such as almond milk instead of soy or milk. I love roobios chai with almond milk made perfectly by the baristas that are friendly and neighborly. The shop has been a great addition to our neighborhood. Great ideas and plans have been created as a result of having a local place to meet.

I love this place. Their lattes are like a food - so tasty. And their actual food is very good. The quiche is excellent. The service is wonderful, the atmosphere peaceful. Even the other customers are friendly. Lots of regulars and I can see why.

  • John T.

I love this place. My macchiato was the best I've ever had (and I've had a lot) and the 'figgy scone' was delicious! This place has coffee from one of Portland's best roasters (Sterling) and the barista did it justice. I met the owner and she was super nice and welcoming as was the barista. Lots of people were coming through and seemed very happy to have this place in the neighborhood. For a place that has been open less than a week I think it's amazing!
