I had been craving lobster for some time, but didn't know where to go that would fulfill it! A friend explained how these folks import fresh lobster everyday (wow) from Maine, and serve it out of a truck. Sold. I got the lobster roll, which was $14, and worth every penny. The lobster is drenched in buttery goodness, and that's it. Squeeze some lemon on top, and you're good to go. No frills, no over the top flavoring needed. The coleslaw was nothing to write home about, but that's not what I came for, so no worries. Highly recommended if you even faintly want lobster!

I've been to Maine many times and the roll I had would be average compared to what I've had there. My main issue with this cart is that there is zero effort put in the sides. I get that it is expensive to get lobster from Maine to Portland , but throwing 50 cents worth of chips in and a three bite portion slaw for $14.50 I would not visit this cart again. I get that in general carts don't have room for big menus , they are at a big pod and could offer a la cart pricing for the roll and allow the customers to get sides from other vendors. I could see spending $9-$10 for the roll by itself given the premium on transportation costs but not paying a premium on zero effort sides.

It's probably not fair to compare this place to Pauli's in Boston, but that's the only other lobster roll I've ever had. Pauli's serves a lobster roll with 7 ounces of fresh, succulent lobster heaping inside their butter toasted bun for $16. Their roll is served with a bag of delicious Utz kettle potato chips. Maine Street Lobster's roll is pretty good at $14.50. The lobster is tender and the tarragon mayo that it is dressed in is tasty. I think there's about 4 ounces of meat on the bun so not nearly as generous as Pauli's in Boston. The coleslaw that comes with it is not worth eating, and neither are the chips. I would gladly fork out $18 for a more generous lobster roll and a bag of good kettle chips. I'm giving 4 stars because a decent lobster roll in Oregon is hard to come by. Extra points for the Appalachian Trail sticker in the window. After all, it was a recent trip to hike a portion of the AT in NH that brought me to Boston to have my first lobster roll in the first place.

Craving lobster on this side of the coast is like craving dungeness on the east coast but I still needed to try this place. Last time I had lobster was outside of Boston with my 2 sisters and we asked for a table way away from everyone else. We don't shy away from those creatures but devour them shamelessly with shells flying everywhere. This was not like that of course. They sell lobster in a civilized fashion and have it in a soft white bread hotdog (lobster) bun instead with butter. My husband has never had one back east so he was not happy with the bread choice. I told him it was traditional though he still thinks they could change it up since this is the west coast. It was served with chips and coleslaw. I do think they could bring their coleslaw to life more however. Pretty boring stuff but not taking a star away from them as the lobster was fresh tasting, sweet and plenty of it. That's also why I'm not complaining about the price either.

It had been a year plus since I was last at Cartlandia, so we stopped here this past sunsplashed weekend looking for something to tide us over until dinner. My only previous experience with lobster rolls was at Luke's Lobster in DC in 2013. The lobster rolls there were plenty good so when I saw Maine Street Lobster in Cartlandia, I knew what I was going to eat. Yes, the "Maine Street" lobster roll is pricey ($14), but it's majorly delicious. Ample amounts of warm (not cold!) lobster are heaped onto a decadent oh-so-soft toasted and lightly buttered roll. I fell in love with it immediately. They give you a little plastic thimble with melted butter to drizzle on your lobster meat. But really, the lobster as served, doesn't need the butter. It's good enough on its own. The lobster roll automatically comes with coleslaw and a full peck (or so it seems) of potato chips. The single area for improvement might be the coleslaw. It tastes fine, but they really do crush and pulverize the slaw's vegetables, not lending to the most desirable texture. But I don't want the coleslaw to detract from the splendor of the lobster roll. So how good was it really? Delectable enough that we came back the next day for another round!

First time WOW! The warm Lobster Slider on a Sweet Hawaiian Roll is a perfect bite! Clam Chowder is splendid without an abundance of salt. Plenty of surrounding tables and chairs. Parking seems sufficient. I would recommend this Food Truck to anyone!

Absolutely fabulous! A lot of lobster meat on the roll. The lobster meat was nice and warm, as was the the toasted roll. Melted butter on the side for you. The chips and coleslaw were good. Many people knock the slaw but I think it's ok. The roll is a wee bit small, but that's good if you want to try something else. Will definitely come back.

I love the lobster, but lacks a little bit of flavor! Other than that the sweet Hawaiian roll was buttery and crispy and the lobster was fresh!

Good lobster roll priced the way it should be for ($14) for as much lobster as they give you. You get chips, slaw, lemons and butter. I'm not used to dropping $17 at a cart (roll $14 + soda $1 +$2 tip) but a solid treat given the qualify and quantity of lobster they use. Will definitely be back.

Lobster was chewy, roll too delicate it fell apart and had to eat the filling with a fork. Bisque was disgusting, even my husband wouldn't eat it and I can usually count on him to polish off my leftovers. Very expensive for what it was, also quite a long wait and wasn't busy there.

The lobster does taste fresh! I'm just a cheapskate and don't want to pay 14 dollars for a sandwich with a handful of chips and coleslaw.. I will take more lobster filling than the sides if I had a choice! I didn't particularly like how buttered up the roll was. If I could go back in time and order my 14 dollar sandwich again I would ask them to not drench my roll in butter. I know butter may make the world go round for some, but it really made me feel sick. I may opt for sliders to fulfill my lobster craving. The sliders were 5 dollars, but they probably are bite size. What I ordered was Cajun style, which might have added to the problem of butter out of control roll. The po boys may also be another better choice. I guess I shouldn't complain, because there are actually lobster rolls existing in the west coast. Bonus: they are nice people!

We like! Main Street Lobster is a very unique place on the left Coast Portland West. They have right Coast indigenous food which you might find in Portland East. In Maine! There are a few purveyors in Portland you can get this. Less than a hand full. All but one and this are national chains. You will be happier to get it here. To me lobster is a luxury. Eaten less than 5 times in my life. This is 6th! Lobsters have flavors and regions. I was fortunate to have some fine lobster overseas near the equator, East Atlantic, and once in Miami. Northeastern Atlantic once or twice. Main Street has the Northeastern lobster. There is a good argument it is sweeter. The warm water lobsters are an entirely different beast, they even look different, and they are common because they are usually more inexpensive, including in the supermarket where frozen tails are sold. This cart is doing fisher-to-chef across the USA from Maine. Their simple sandwich meals are a sweet cole slaw, rippled salty potato chips, butter, fresh lemon for the warm version.. They star a soft bun overflowing with with lobster chunks. Very gracious cart staff. Preparing your meal can take 5-15 minutes. It being Cartlandia, you can take your meal to the inside spot with a full bar, or the fair weather beer and wine garden. There are a very few places in Portland you can get this treat. But you will be happier to get it here! Supporting small businesses!

So sooooooo good. Roll was buttery and toasted, lobster had great flavor. I liked that they serve a little side of clarified butter for the chunks of lobster that fall out of the roll. Chips were good but I'd love to see some kettle chips on the menu too. I didn't care for the slaw, it had way too much onion for my liking. I will absolutely be back. One of the top 5 lobster rolls I've ever had.

Could care less about the chips and cole slaw, had the Cajun lobster roll, was pretty good, wished it was a little bigger with more lobster.

They have the best lobster rolls! We tried both the hot and chilled versions and they were both great. By far one of our favorite food trucks in Portland.

I have been a tiny bit sad ever since the Hot Boxx food cart went down the tubes. I've been denied lobster rolls ever since. Sure I could go to ABC seafood and buy my own lobster, but for all my Boston area roots, I've never been a fan of boiling things myself. Enter Maine Street Lobster. Sure, it's a drive, but it's a helluva lot closer than New England. I think they do a damned fine job here. I do wish there were a "super size" option - where for, say, $5 more you could get a larger portion of lobster shoved into the roll. I'm used to having to eat all the stuff off the top before you can even think of shoving what's left into your mouth like a sandwich. Other than that tiny request, this is a great lunch option and a delicious change from typical cart food. Also, they brought water out for our dog, which was super sweet and appreciated by both him and us. I like any place that likes my dog, too. Especially because for all my bad habits of sharing food with the dog, there was no way in hell he was getting any of my lobster roll. He did get a tiny bit of clam chowder-dipped chips, so he's not complaining.

The Lobster Po' Boy may have been one of the best sandwiches I've eaten. The cajun seasoning, like their lobster, is flown in from another part of the nation, so the lovely bearded southern man said at the window. You will not find it in Portland. It's what really made it special. The tomatoes and the greens were very fresh and flavorful, oddly enough, for being consumed in February. I made my girlfriend try it who claimed to dislike lobster. I told her she probably hasn't tasted good lobster before. I thought I had but apparently neither of us did because Maine Street's blew our asses through our brains! That means it was good. And she forgave me for spending $14 on a sandwich. They fly their lobster in from Maine 3 days a week, I believe. It helps too that they cook it perfectly. And the bread is fantastic and chewy. I like to rip at my bread. This may cause the fixins to pop out a little bit, but I recommend using your coleslaw fork to jam that pretty shit back down and keep going and stop being a damn diva! I would give them 10 stars but my sides confused me. The coleslaw tasted like they mixed in a little bit of the ocean into it. So I'm not sure if I liked it or not. I'm going to try it again. Also the iced tea tasted like Minneasota lake water. Not a bad memorie to trigger, but not what I look for in an iced tea. I'm going to try it again. Finally there were ruffled potato chips. Perfect tools to scoop up your fallen fixins. Nothing wrong with that. I'm going to keep coming back and try something new each time. That Po' Boy put me in a really good mood and I'm looking forward to that experience again. Highly recommended!

Today, MSLC assisted me with celebrating my long overdue graduation. Three years of grad school hell plus two years of pre reqs, and this is the first place I wanted to be celebrating. This time, in addition to the moist, warm succulant lobster rolls, I also ate the bisque. This bisque was full of warmth, love and flavors so complex, natural and healing that if it bubbled up from the earth and they could somehow pipe into to one of the tubs at Bagby Hotspring, I would bathe in it and not wash for a week. They say that tuna is chicken of the sea. They say that oyster is booger of the sea. They say that kelp is spinach of the sea. They say that chicken is tuna of the earth. They say that orange is the new black. They say a lot of things, but what I say is this: lobster is lobster of the sea, see? There is no metaphor, euphemism or substitute for it. The same can be said of MSLC. In addition to rigorously training each lobster to drive a bus across country, one of the proprietors was attempting to through hike the Appelachian Trail. He didn't do it for love. He didn't do it for god. He didn't do it for his health. He did it for LOBSTER. Instead of Eat, Pray, Love, his story could be called, Eat, Hike, Eat. He never found Maine. Instead, he froze and starved on a mountaintop. It was there that a six foot tall lobster wearing a top hat and a cane approached him. "Mr. Peanut?" he said. "No," said the lobster. "I am Lenny the Landlocked Lobster. I am your Guardian Lobster." "Oh, I see." "No, my son" said the lobster. "Take my claw and eat of it. Lay me down on a pillow of wheat. This, I ask you to do in my name. My son, you will go to Portland Town." "Portland...Maine?" "NO! Wrong Portland! Portland Oregon. You will teach others of my kind to drive a bus. Then, you will play a Kenny G tune of choice on a magic pan flute and sing this song: "Lobster, lobster, rah, rah, rah. Oyster, oyster, ha, ha, ha. Claws go click Legs go clack Lay down in a po'boy and be my snack. First comes love, then comes marriage then comes a driving lobster in a horse and carriage." From my earlier amended review: I rarely admit I was wrong. You see, only one thing in this world offends me: not getting the food I expected. On our visit visit I had been craving lobster for days. We drove a long time. They were not open. Lobster denied I could not hide my stomach's pride I could have lied but then I felt as if I'd died. I wanted 2 make my belly wide instead, I sat with head in hands, with shaking fist, I cried and asked "Why!?! Why?! WHHHHHHHHHHYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" But things were different the second time around, leading to a somewhat more regulated emotional state. 1. they were open. 2. proprietor is a bonna fide Hun Lady. She has the sweetest smile, the kindest eyes, and will find YOU and serve YOU whever you may be sitting in Cartlandia. 3. Lobster and butter is so, so, so, so, so SWEET. You can taste the sea in every bite. Each roll is made with a mixture of claw, tail, and body meat, so nothing lacks. 4. Each lobster has to drive themselves all the way from Portland Maine, to Portland, Oregon. Usually, one lobster will work hard to get their driver's licence, and then awkwardly steer the steering wheel of a large bus with other lobsters, much like Tunces the Driving Cat. Some of these buses arrive intact and some do not. It's not easy to steer with claws. It's not easy to peer through rearview mirror with eyestalks. It isn't easy to press in a clutch, brake or accelerate using tiny, arthopod legs. Really, my hat's off to these amazing bottom-feeding critters.

Better than Menemsha! The price is the same, but the lobster rolls are even bigger and better tasting (and you don't have to fly to the Vineyard to get 'em!). We were hoping for rolls just like "back east" and this place is the real deal. Can't wait to get more.

I want to start by saying I'd never had a lobster roll before and I was truly looking forward to trying this cart for a long time. The server was polite and friendly. I appreciate that the menu is simple. They offer a limited amount of items and typically that means those few items will be done well. I ordered the hot version of the lobster roll, which comes with chips and coleslaw, and I added a cup of clam chowder. The roll itself was small...about the size of a standard everyday hot dog bun. I don't eat a lot of bread, and it tasted fine but I just noted it was small. The lobster portion was also small. It tasted fresh but it was not hot...more like room temperature. I've only had lobster a few times in my life and this was very disappointing due to the temp issue. The coleslaw tasted fine but it was nothing special. The large handful of ruffly potato chips were basic. The biggest let down for me was the clam chowder. Not only was it not hot but it was just plain BLAH. It tasted like there was no salt or black pepper added. Not good at all. There was a strange hot kick in the back of my throat after each bite like some sort of jalepeno or other spicy pepper was in the mix--again, not good. Clam chowder should be thick and creamy. It MUST be served piping hot. And, please, add salt and black pepper when you make it. All in all, a disappointing experience. I wouldn't have minded paying $19 for lunch (well, maybe I do mind a bit) if everything had been, well, just done better. Pros: Lots of parking for this cart pod. They take credit/debit cards for payment. Simple menu. Fresh lobster. Polite and friendly staff. Cons: Lukewarm lobster roll that's a bit small for the $, IMO. Uninspired coleslaw. Room temperature clam chowder with no seasoning (salt/pepper) and an unpleasant hot "kick" in the throat like jalepeno (?!).

This may be one of the first PDX food carts to base nearly its entire menu on lobster. I don't believe a food cart here regularly sold lobster rolls since Hot Boxx closed its food cart many moons ago. It's clear that price is an issue when coming to this food cart. Lobster is expensive, and the owners here get their lobster freshly shipped from Maine. That being said, it's nice to see that there are some ways to make the meal more affordable, such as soups and sliders. I hadn't had a lobster roll in about two years, so I decided to splurge. The Maine Lobster Roll ($14) is a hot lobster roll. Lobster meat is lightly sauteed in butter, lemon, and herbs. Heated sweet, juicy lobster is put inside a buttery toasted (and slightly crunchy) New England-style roll, served with Ruffles chips, a side of cart-made cole slaw, and a dill pickle. I wish I had the bankroll to eat 10 of those. The chilled cole slaw was crunchy, all veggies practically diced or minced. I really liked the Lobster Bisque ($6). Beautiful color and nice consistency, with some lobster chunks. The sherry might be a bit much for some people (unless an inordinate amount was added to the batch I had). Major credit cards accepted here. I think the Lobster Bisque and the Clam Chowder may be the popular items with the cooler weather finally arriving. This is a cart worth checking out.

Generally, I'm just ok with lobster, but a lobster roll sounded pretty tempting on this particular day. The roll was packed with big chunks of lobster (tail and claw meat) and it was sweet (in a good way). Overall, itt was good, but it wasn't wowing enough for me to get it again.

Really good. Portions for $14.50 are kinda small but the large chunks of lobster make up for gutting the price. I'd go again for sure.

Main lobster roll is hot and buttery and DELICIOUS!!! I honestly could eat this everyday for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Also tried the Po' boy but the lobster roll was just such a star... If hasn't tried the lobster roll, Po' boy may have been great.

I can't wait to eat here next time. Their menu and quality of food does not disappoint. They are quick and professional as well as organized. My lobster roll was mouth watering. I would have traded my chips in for extra coleslaw though, but that's just a personal preference. We enjoyed the chef greeting us and his Southern charm. It is worth every penny.

Like another reviewer, I have showed up at this food cart in SE Portland five times during business hours, and they were only open and serving food three of those five. This time I called to verify that they were indeed open, and that they had what I wanted. Affirmative. The previous two times I had hot lobster rolls, I was pleased. I've never had a lobster roll in my life prior to this cart, but the meat was tasty and sweet and the bun fresh. This time was no different. The roll was worth the $14 and the risk of disappointment when the stand isn't actually open (often). I can say that the coleslaw isn't good at all so I throw it away. It's bitter and dry. The potato chips are kind of pointless, but whatever, they always get eaten. So...four stars.

  • David V.

The hot Lobster roll is amazing!!! First time I tried this place, I thought it was a bit overpriced for the portion until I did some research and found out people are paying $20-25 for the same size of roll in Boston. The only reason I'm giving them 4 stars instead of 5 is because the sides are very underwhelming. Slaw is very bland and the chips are just Ruffles chips. I'm okay with ruffled chips but at least use a higher quality like Kettle Brand (salt & pepper please). Also, there have been a couple occassions where they were closed when their hours stated they would be open or they were out of Lobster.

Okay, here's something I never thought I'd see. But this is Portland, land of Maple Bacon Beer and other culinary treasures. What I never thought I'd see: a food cart that serves lobster. This is Portland with a Maine Complex. And it's a really good problem to have. Met up with some friends for a small gathering at Cartlandia, Portland's all-cart "everyone can get what they want" eatery. Nestled off 82nd, a half mile north of Johnson Creek is basically a parking lot with a bunch of food trucks. But these are not your "normal" food trucks. Each of these trucks provides a different culinary style, from a darned decent burger, to crepes to...lobster. Yep, flown in fresh from the northeast coast, lobster plays the starring role in about ten different dishes at "Maine Street Lobster Company". Wife N and I both had the same idea: arrive and make a beeline for the lobster truck, because that lobster roll was calling our name. We ordered, and about ten minutes later the lobster rolls were delivered to our table inside the tent on this cold, blustery, rainy Portland day. Along with the roll came a little bit of garlic butter, some lemon wedges and a small cup of cole slaw. I squeezed some lemon, poured a conservative-as-I-could-be-for-a-guy-who-hates-calories-but-loves-butter amount of butter and took that first bite. Oh, baby, heaven. There are VERY few food trucks from which I've gotten food this good. The lobster was nicely seasoned but the seasoning was laid back enough that the lobster's flavor shined through. The bread was fresh and didn't detract from the lobster highlight. The lobster itself was slightly overcooked---a tiny bit tough, but this IS a food cart, not a $50 a plate restaurant, and so this diner decided to forgive this relatively slight issue. Anyone who's read my other reviews knows I LOVE to cook at home, and I make some pretty decent noms. I've done some absolutely amazing butter-poached lobster. I can say with certainty that there is no way I'd be able to get a lobster tail, butter, poach it at home and lay it into roll myself for anywhere near the $14 I paid here. This is a slammin' deal, and an excellent sandwich for the price. The only thing keeping me from returning in a heartbeat is the fact I live an hour away. Food quality 4.5 stars (can't give them 5 on the slight toughness), service and friendliness 5 stars--the owners are awesome, friendly, helpful, and just dang nice folks, value 5-stars and wishing Yelp had more). Given the price, this is a 5* place. I've had better lobster, but never for anywhere near this price (even at home) and never from the side of a truck. My life is better for having eaten here.

I read an article about how these lobster rolls had won some award so when I ordered mine, I was as excited as a kid on Christmas. However, it was literally so bad I couldn't even eat it. Bland, mushy meat (not even enough to fill the doughy, untoasted roll); no brightness or flavor or savoriness at all. A handful of potato chips from a Lays bag? 14 bucks for this mess. I tried a few bites bravely, then--utterly wilted and dejected--I threw out the whole lot. I wish I could have asked for a refund, but I figured that anyone willing to serve such pale slop to a customer surely wouldn't care about making them happy anyways.

I visited Maine Lobster Company at Carlandia on SE 82nd. Lobster is one of my five favorite foods. I did not know what to expect. So, I stood in front of the menu on the side of the cart contemplating whether or not to try an item. The menu is printed cleanly, descriptively, and large enough to read easily. The man and woman in the cart were very pleasant and helpful. I decided on the Hot Lobster Roll. I was shocked to see an entire claw of meat, intact. FRESH! Did I mention the lobster was FRESH?!!! Of course there were many other large chunks of lobster covering and filling the entire roll. I would have liked more lobster. (But. then, again my size preference is a two pounder.) With lots of butter. It also came with a terrific cole slaw unlike any I can recall. The cole slaw was not mayonnaise. Nor was it overtly vinegar. It was not wet, or mushy. The slaw was crunchy, a bit sweet, and clean. I think "clean" is the best descriptor. I almost wish there had been more. It was in a small plastic cup. I was free to eat it alone or place it on the roll. The basket was filled with a generous supply of wavy potato chips. All fresh. They included a small bit of drawn butter. I was delighted to see the drawn butter. It is my favorite way of eating lobster. I am a purist. Or maybe a separatist. The roll was sweet. This was my only negative. I am pretty set in my ways and much prefer baguette, french, or Italian breads with my lobster. I happily ate the lobster and then, ate the bread/roll. The bread was fresh, plentiful, and dense enough not to fall completely apart had I kept the roll entirely intact. However, I think a sturdier bread might be better for that. The whole meal cost $14.95. I ate it happily. Oh yeah, PLENTY OF PARKING INSIDE the POD! Also, walk all the way around the back. There are carts back there I would not have seen had I not been willing to venture around the back of the beer barn. Aside: Cartlandia and all cart pods should use and have receptacles for entirely recyclable plates, cups, flatware, and food compost. I guess this a persona/cart ownerl choice. But, That is MY preference.

Seriously solid lobster slider. Delicious, well-prepared, and generous on the lobster. The chips on the side were just a bonus. Score! Nice owner. A refill included on the soda. I love it.

Great lobster roll with chunks of lobster meat in a toasted buttered roll. A little pricey but worth the price. Generous portion of cole slaw and chips. Complimentary refill on soda, a nice bonus.

paid $10.50 for a shrimp poboy sandwich...received lukewarm pre-cooked, un-deveined shrimp drowning in what was obviously a 1/2-/12 mixture of old bay seasoning & mayonnaise. The roll was good quality...that's about the only good thing I can say about the sandwich. As for the service, the girl running the window was so distracted by the conversation she was having with someone else inside the cart about a trip to a mall that I had to repeat my order 3x. She was flippant and obviously couldn't give a sh!t about the fact that she was conducting a business transaction at the time. I waited 15 minutes - they didn't serve anyone else in that time, and had to ask the girl three times for a freaking napkin.

I'm updating my review after several more ATTEMPTED experiences here. The food is still good...if you can get it. I have been quite frustrated since I have come here to find the place closed on four separate occasions. This most recent one was particularly upsetting, as I made a drive from Beaverton to Cartlandia, to find they had run out of lobster. To the owners, I would suggest that you better publicize your twitter/facebook accounts and hand out a business card with the cart's phone number to EVERY SINGLE CUSTOMER. That way, every customer knows to call/check before coming, instead of just looking at your hours and coming in. And post a sign on your cart to say you're out of stock! A dimmed open sign just makes me think you've closed shop for the day, with no particular reason. -1 for the extra hassle. I mean, it's a food cart. Fast, cheap, and readily available is what I expect from a food cart. While this cart doesn't handle cheap so well, due to the lobster, it isn't particularly good at addressing the expectation of available either. And if you're out of lobster, aren't there other options? When stating "we're out", I'm guessing you mean out of lobsters, oysters, scallops, soup, and desserts. Everything. There are other restaurants in Portland who serve lobster rolls and other seafood at a similar price point who are open at more regular hours and never have supply problems. -1 for the fact I've been here four times to find your cart closed. It makes customer retention hard.

I'll start off by saying all of the negative reviews for this place are due to inexperience. I'm from the Northeast and the lobster roll is huge in Boston and points nearby. They are amazing, but never cheap. Most lobster rolls on the east coast range between 15-20 dollars and the portions are exactly the same as Maine Street. These guys do an amazing lobster roll and it's on par with everything I've tried back East. I dock one star due to the rest of the menu. I've tried the bisque and clam chowder and neither were impressive. Stick with the lobster rolls, they're amazing and totally worth a 14 dollar splurge once in a while.

I never tried a famed Lobster Roll so not sure if they make it up to par here or not. Maybe lobster in general doesn't wow me; if price is factored-in, then definitely not. I realize market price is very high for this delicacy, so I don't fault the owners for charging $14 for a tiny sandwich. However, I've had Lobster Bisque many times and the version here was meh, the sherry overpowered it. The cart is top of the line, the owner was very nice, the staff wore chef's outfits. 3 stars sometimes gets a bad rap, but it literally means "A-OK" to me, which is a good thing. All the best to this cart.

Wonderful lobster roll! Generous portions of lobster and the roll was delicious and with butter. They are getting four stars because the server was pretty rude. I think she may have been a teenager but still, I don't like it when they open the window and just stare me. I expect at least a hello if anything.

$$$$ I like lobster but come on. Bit pricey for lobster and bread. Lobster bisque was good but nothing to write home about. Spent $22 here and spent $8 at The Good and Evil wrap and was twice as full.

The Down East Lobster Roll at this Cartlandia cart is the best lobster roll I've had that I haven't made myself. It had everything I've ever wanted: light tarragon infused mayonnaise, a splash of citrus, light, fluffy chunks of lobster, a buttery but not-greasy bun, a nice pickle to cut through the rich lobster, extra melted butter (duh) and sides of chips and slaw. Obviously it's expensive, but for the lovely folks at this cart to turn a profit after shipping in fresh lobster, it makes sense. It's not a huge sandwich; if you're still hungry after, there are dozens of other carts at this location where you can fill up on $5 thai or chicken and waffles after your lobster splurge. When you're hankering for a lobster roll, nothing else will do...so come get yours at the Maine Street Lobster Company!

The people that work here are SO nice! The lobster is delicious. The lines are not yet too long. This place is a hidden gem. You need to try it at least once. Be warned, go earlier rather than later. Especially on weekends. Once they run out of lobster they close for the day.

Awesome lobster rolls. I would have liked their slaw to be a bit better, but all in all really good food.

lobster rolls are now available in Portland (OREGON) it is exactly what it is: delicious bits of lobster in a roll with some butter, lemon and a bit of sauce. $14 gets you a fair portion of lobster and a party in your mouth. they also offer some soups. i tried the clam chowder - it is pretty good but, wish it had a little less bacon in it.

Had their Maine Lobster Roll and it was worth the price, even though the chips sucked and it was not nearly enough to fill me up. I had given up trying to buy fresh tasting lobster on the West coast, it can happen, but not consistently in my experience. Their lobster was spectacular today, hope it remains so.

Got the hot lobster roll, and it was tasty, but I guess I expected more from a $14.00 sandwich. I know, it's lobster, I'm cheap. Unfortunately for this place, I decided to pair my lobster roll with a side of jalapeno mac and cheese from Zeek's Cheese Cart and that was so mind-blowingly awesome, anything next to it was destined to be just "average". Next time, I'll probably double up on the mac and cheese, and take the leftovers home for brekky.

Maine Street Lobster has high prices, but restaurant level fare. The Down East Lobster Roll, is what you should order because of its authenticity, has a very heavenly and creamy nature as opposed to the Maine Lobster Roll. There are lots of cheaper things you can order, but naturally there isn't a way to get lobster cheaply. Real lobster is an expensive product. However, if you do order the Down East Lobster Roll it will taste crunchy, creamy and delicious. The rolls took about ten minutes to make. It absolutely would be fulfilling to visit Cartlandia and the Maine Street Lobster Company. When you eat here, you get to eat inside a nice tent and the food is great at Main Street Lobster.

I noticed an eye catching craw fish thing inside the lot a while ago. I went to check it out the next time I was there while I was waiting on my food that I ordered at another cart. I thought to myself.. Lobster? Cool, that's different and new. I'm always down to try new things but prices have to be reasonable and $14 is the highest prices I have ever seen at a food cart. If I was looking to spend $14 a plate, I wouldn't go to food carts. Fortunately the mini slyder is $5. It's been a while since I've had lobster and price was right, so I ordered one. It's about the size of a fast food breakfast biscuit. I got enough lobster of substance rather than small ground up bits as garnishment. The slyder is great if you like having lobster once in a while and just a little bit. I don't dig it enough to justify spending the price of an entire tail but I can justify the slyder once in a while together with a meal. Order whatever meal you were going to get originally at your usual cart but go here while waiting and get a slyder.

This is the best food cart that I have ever been to hands down! The Down East lobster roll is amazing, and I love the coleslaw. Whenever I am in Cartlandia this is my go to place. lllobbsstahhh.

The family and I stopped into cartlandia Saturday afternoon to grab some lunch. It was nice to see a new cart or one I had not noticed before, I'm not sure. It was bright clean and inviting. If you have been to Cartlandia before you will understand the eclectic mix of carts from some that looks like welded together garbage cans to converted dump trucks. Maine street Lobster Companies cart looks like a Diamond in a coal field. BEAUTIFUL! If the food was half as good as the cart looked I couldn't go wrong and I wasn't disappointed. I went to the window and ordered the "Maine Lobster Roll" hot and buttery was the description. It seemed like their signature dish (or most expensive). The service was prompt and the food looked delicious. I wish I had taken a photo of it to share. The bread was lightly toasted and the meat was warm, ample and soft and buttery and melt in your mouth good. YUMMY!!! The sandwich came with chips and I am guessing home made cole-slaw which was equally as fresh and appetizing. Although this is most likely the highest priced cart at Cartlandia I will be going back for more. It is well worth it! Thank you for the cookies the kids loved them : )

Wow... I love the diversity that cartlandia is offering!!! For my first time I tried the lobster slider (cold) $5. And the HM GF clam chowder $5. For the slider I would give it a 7/10 for the roll. Nice crunch, but slightly dry. Sweeter so paired well with the lobster. The main event the lobster was great. Fresh, tender and sweet. For $5 I would love more lobster. I guess I got my hopes up because watching the food channel they featured a food truck that offered lobster rolls for $5 and the lobster was over flowing. Now, I get that it was the east coast and easier to get Maine lobster. I feel like for the amount of lobster it was more like a big bite, or a taste maybe sell for $3/3.50. The other lobster offering was at $14. So either $5 or $14 to try the lobster. Maybe try something in the $7-9 range with a good amount of lobster--I don't need the ruffle potato chips. I want the business to be successful, I just know its still eating kinda outside along 82nd, unless you live close and bring it home (still take out is a little less expensive). So my rating for the slider would be a solid 8/10. Good flavor, texture. Served with lemon and warm butter. The soup was disappointing. Really disappointing. It didn't taste bad but it wasn't as good as even some chain restaurants like mcgraths, Newport or Elmer's. it wasn't bad tasting, just nothing memorable. She made a point of telling me they were focusing on the freshness of the soup and the lobster. Ill be curious to see what other people say about the soup but I didn't get that much clam or bacon:(:( the soup gets a 4/10. The person who served me and greeted me was great. I wish them well. I think the cart will be super popular. It would be nice if they had even handful lobster bites with bacon on toothpicks. Dip in lemon butter sauce. Carrot and celery sticks with dip. I love crab and shrimp. Fishermens stew? If your gonna offer more GF, GF bread toasted open face with shrimp and a little cheese. Roasted red pepper tomato soup as a side. I understand its a cart but I hope the menu becomes a little more diversified. Offerings and prices;) Thanks!

When I discovered this food cart after a trip home to New England last fall, I thought I had died and gone to heaven. When I need my lobster roll fix, these folks are just a short drive away, and much cheaper than a plane ticket home! Today I was in a food addiction continuing education seminar in Happy Valley, so of course lobster was burned in my brain all morning. Thanks for a wonderful, ongoing DownEast experience! I give 5 stars for the lobster roll it was delicious. For my taste buds and what I grew up to. I wish instead of potato chips that actual potato slices were used. It would make it more fresh to go with the lobster roll

My son and I went there a week ago on a Wednesday after reading the reviews that it was good, got the cold roll as the owner said it won something, can't remember what. It was $14 so I had expectations that it would be wonderful! Very, very disappointed!! The lobster was overcooked, very little seasoning, roll was barely toasted. Never going back. While at cartlandia, we tried the pork and cheese pupusa from the vendor next to the crepe place, $2.75 it was made fresh right there, amazing!!

For someone that was raised in the biggest island in the Caribbean eating lobster almost becomes part of your normal diet and without knowing it you become an expert on seafood. Last week I had such a good experience at Maine Street Lobster that I haven't had since I came to America 14 years ago. The flavor is unique and the customer service is really awesome. Definitely "Mobile Gourmet"

not bad for being on the other side of the coast. fresh steamed lobster on a buttered roll. keep the flavors simple and let the lobster with the claws do all the work on a bite. that chilly N.E. water somehow makes them taste and feel like no other lobster. only gripe the bisque could've been a bit hotter.

Real LOBSTER? Wrapped in a buttery bun? Say no more and sign me up! The lady running this truck was such a sweetheart too. She even brought our food out to us in the food tent. She didn't even have a bucket out in front to tip her extra and we totally wanted to! I had never had a lobster roll, so this lived up to my expectations and it was one of the highlight food moments on our trip to Portland.

Why am I eating lobster on west coast? You all know that they shipped those creature all the way from east coast. The owner was very friendly. he offered me to try his chowder, which I think is too spicy. The lobster roll was very fresh but kinda pricy. if you want to try somthing else, there are many other options in the same food-truck camp!

I love this place... Pretty bold move to serve lobster rolls in Portland let alone felony flats. The portions were very fair for the price. The lobster roll itself was decent. Fresh and made to order. Not the best I've had but not the worst either. I will dine here again.

I drove all the way from Beaverton just to try this delightful little cart. Thank you David and Cathy! I am an east coast girl and some Portland folks might balk at $14 for a sandwich but it is a split roll filled with real Maine lobster! Heaven in my mouth, sweet lobster heaven. The owners are also some of the nicest people and knew we were coming out specifically to see them for rolls...if they know you are treking from across town, call ahead and they will make sure to hook you up since they do sell out. They are talking about some new offerings as well towards the Spring Summer! I have tried the hot and cold and honestly I love both. I will definitely be finding reasons to drop by this area!

I agree with most of the other reviews. 1) WAY too little food for a $14 sandwich only. Small hot-dog sized bun filled with delicious lobster. This sandwich is worth $8. Not $14. It is a 2-bite sandwich. The lobster is good though. 2) I have also drove here (Cartlandia is not close to anyone!) only to find the place closed with a sign that said they ran out of lobster (bullshit). So I stopped going as a regular customer. Then last weekend i tried again, and even though there were 3 people in the cart (including one was the owner) they refused to make me a sandwich simply because they didnt open for 20 more minutes. So, I went to Hawthorne Lobster House instead and got a lobster roll there. Was sad to do so, but they couldnt whip up a sandwich for me with 3 people in there?!?!

The selection at Cartlandia is so great that I walked around for an hour before deciding on getting a lobster roll from here. I've never had one before and I am a huge fan of lobster and since I rarely am in SE any more i decided i had to do it. Waste of money. I got the hot lobster roll and was never so disappointed in my life. The amount of lobster they serve for 14 dollars is almost criminal. The lobster was nothing to write home about. If this is what lobster rolls are like in Maine then I suggest that they secede from the union and rename their Portland to something else lest it besmirch our fair city with its pitiful excuse for a sandwich. Please leave.

I have a few things to say about this place: 1) great people. Whenever I am in Cartlandia and they are open, the staff has always been able to put a smile on my face. 2) it is pretty awesome that as a seafood lover you can get lobster quick and easy. I never put butter on it, I like to taste the sea. It always tastes fresh and cooked well. 3) you pay for quick. Although the portion sizes are nice with the lobster, it is still alittle too much for the fast food atmosphere. Wish they got more business so the could lower the price perhaps? 4) only other slightly negative thing I need to say, I usually order the Lobster Bisque everytime I come here. And so thats maybe... 8 or 9 times, and twice the soup was inconsistent. One time being too runny and the other being spicy which is crazy. Now when I think of lobster bisque I think of the saffron flavoring which is mind blowing. Saffron is very expensive. So they use what I can only describe as a slightly Cajun flavoring. So slightly spicy, but it is a bold flavor. I will come back of course because I enjoy supporting these guys, they have a very small nitch in a community that they serve.

I had a lobster roll which came with chips, coleslaw, and a pickle. The lobster had butter and lemon on the side to add at your own discretion. The lobster was fresh and just perfect. Great flavor and texture that you expect with lobster. The coleslaw is amazing. The customer service is really good they both have southern hospitality and brought my food to me in my car.

Reading a review of this place and knowing about it now is what got met motivated to come check it out and Cartlandia today for the first time. Made the drive from North Vancouver. Boy was it worth it! Absolutely hands down the best lobster roll I've ever had. So FRESH! Everything. I went because it was hot out with the chilled version. I can't wait to come back and try the other options out. Amazing! Simply that lobster roll is what I would have to describe in the words of Anthony Bourdain as "food porn." :-) We need places like this across the river in the Vancouver metro area!

Really good - but a bit expensive. Then again, it is fresh lobster! I could go for a $25 hoagie size sandwich of this stuff!

Good service, amazing lobster roll, I ate the whole thing but still left hungry. The portions are way too small. Potato chips from a bag for a side dish? What's the matter, fries are too expensive? The tiny salad was bland and tasteless. I ate the whole roll in one yummy bite and left the so called side dishes alone. The rolls are good, it just feels like $14 for a tiny roll is a bit extreme. Especially with no side dishes. Please add value with side dishes.

I wanted to like it.. I really did. My fault for hyping this place up in my head. I got the cold lobster roll and it was underwhelming to say the least. Smaller than I had anticipated (for the price) and BLAND! I am not opposed to going back to try the hot lobster roll and bisque however.

After reading all the reviews, we decided to give this place a try. I've had bad luck at most of these food carts and haven't recommended any of them, so I had high hopes for this place. Service was fair, nothing to get excited over as we waited at the counter for several minutes and were ignored twice by the owner. We ordered the hot roll and the cold one as well. The hot roll was okay, but the lobster was a bit disappointing in flavor, not sweet like you'd expect. The roll was nice and toasted, basic chips on the side. I found the coleslaw to be a little mushy and bland. The cold roll was not good. The thin, mayo based sauce had no flavor and desperately needed some seasoning, but the lobster itself was so chewy it was like gnawing on an eraser. The worst part was the entire thing tasted "off", really fishy. This was definitely not fresh, as advertised. Pretty bad for $14.00 a sandwich. Bottom line, I guess the hot, buttered roll is the way to go but I probably wouldn't drive out of my way for it.

I really enjoyed the lobster roll as went for lunch last weekend. The pickle, coleslaw, and chips were great as well. Initially I thought the price was a bit high but the lobster was very fresh and can imagine what it costs to ship to Portland. I plan on going back to try the bisque and clam chowder. The couple running the cart were very friendly.

If you like lobster, this is your spot. Awesome lobster rolls that come with a delicious fresh coleslaw. I usually hate coleslaw but this was not full of mayonnaise and was crunchy. I even like the Ruffles ;)

Melt-in-your-mouth, sweet, buttery fresh and meaty lobster on a soft, lightly-sweet roll--what could be better? They don't skimp, either: my $14 roll was loaded with lobster chunks. Accompanied by tasty homemade slaw, it was perfect. The nicest folks run the cart, which is a winner and a welcome addition to the PDX food cart scene. Highly recommend!

  • Michele T.

The real deal, these folks serve up "lobstah" rolls that are full of meat, not filled with celery, and it's served on a genuine top sliced roll that is slightly sweet. Perfectly done! The rolls are impossible to find here in the PNW so the owners have them made locally to their specifications. I know, because I was SO hoping they found a source locally. We had the warm roll because it was a cold, windy day, but we will be back in warmer weather for the traditional cold roll. Worth every penny of $14 and the drive from West Linn.

okay .....if Yelp ever decides to give more than 5 stars..... this is the place that would deserve it!!! First I contacted the owners to find out if we could get the lobster and the rolls packaged separately so that we could travel back to where we live without the buns getting soggy... She wrote back yes, we just need to let her know. I told her she just made us very happy. she then e-mailed us back to say that she had sold out due to all the new articles about her place... I can not say enough of a place that will let you know so you dont drive all the way out there to then find out. Okay now about the food..... lets just take a moment to just appreciate what I am about to say..... I got the Hot lobster roll. it is served with clarified butter and tiny lemon slices chips, pickle and coleslaw as well). I did a first bite just the way it was served... OH-MY-GOD!!! then I put on the butter and a tiny bit of the lemon and OH-MY-EFFING-GOD. It was raining and night when we arrived.....we were soaked, cold and probably looking like 3 drowned rats........then...... I swear with the bite I had.... the rain stopped, clouds cleared, angels sang (could have been Sirens the songs were that good!!!) and I swear time actually stopped for a few moments. Toasted split roll with a tiny bit of sweetness mixed with the hot Maine lobster with the butter is one of the best things I have ever stuck in my pie hole. My friend also got a hot roll and since there was three of us she got a Cold roll like the kind you get in the East coast..so we could all try it... that was superb as well!!! My friend goes to Boston to visit family and said that was indeed just like the ones you get over there. Now.... for those of you scoffing at the price......IT IS WELL WORTH ITS WEIGHT IN GOLD! When you take into account she has to have the lobster shipped quickly and often....and the price on the East coast are actually higher...you are getting a hell of a deal! They also have sliders for the people who are a little more cost aware. We also had the Clam chowder and lobster bisque... the clam chowder to me was great, to my friends...just a wee bit too much pepper, the bisque is a little heavy on the sherry taste but I like it and it was so yummy! I swear if you like lobster.... you HAVE to try this place, you have not lived until you have tried it.....do it.........DO IT NOW!!! I promise you you will not be disappointed. The owners David and Cathy are great people!!! Friendly and not adverse to making each experience the best they can! I can honestly say.... even though they are not from Portland they are definitely Portland foodies at heart!

I've had an amazing lobster roll in New York City. Sadly, this did not compare. The taste was good, not great, small portion size, and bland cole slaw. The owner was very nice, and I'd love to give this place a better review, but it definitely wasn't worth $14.

I've always wanted to eat at the food trucks in Portland because I have heard so much about all the great food. Luckily I found Cartlandia online while searching for my trip from Seattle to Portland. Immediately I was interested in Maine Lobster Company. Seafood is one of my favs. When my husband and I arrived we were greeted by a very friendly man who was excited about the food they offered. We inquired about crab cakes that I saw on the website but were not represented on the menu at the truck. I was very excited to find out that they in fact did have crab cakes because I love love love crab. We ordered two crab cakes with a side of coleslaw, which I also love. We were given a playing card, ace of clubs, as our number that would be called when our food was done. I thought it was a clever idea. Plus it's different which is cool. We only had to wait about 10 minutes. When they were done the crab cakes were presented very nicely and looked good. There was a cajun remoulade for dipping. The first bit was amazing. These crab cakes are in my top 3 crab cakes I have ever had. It was very impressive and definitely lived up to the hype I have heard about food trucks. These could definitely be served in a 5 star restaurant. The coleslaw was very good as well. It made for a great accompaniment. When we were all finished I gave my compliments to the chef and highly encouraged them to update their menu right away because anyone who loves crab cakes will give these two thumbs up. Next time I make it down to Portland I am definitely going back and probably going to get their Po boy sandwich as well because that sounded amazing. This place is a must to check out.

Lobster roll was really good but it was way to small and I didn't like the coleslaw but not a fan of slaw to begin with. Lobster bisque was just ok. The lobster roll and cup of lobster bisque and drink came to $21.25 and I tipped 2$ so 23.25 in total

I was craving lobster....so hard. I looked up all the regular restaurants around Portland and just couldn't stomach the ridiculous prices. I am NOT paying $50 for a side of lobster downtown. Then I stumbled across a link to the Maine Street Lobster Cart. I was skeptical but thought I'd give it a shot. Not only did I NOT wait in line and my food was ready fast, it was probably the best lobster I've ever had. I ate the lobster roll in record time. It was delicious. And the owners of the cart are beautiful people. Good food, good peeps. Doesn't get any better. Highly recommend. Im afraid I'll be going there weekly....

YUMMY!!! This place is great!!!!!! Living on the west coast its impossible to get a good lobster roll. Every time I see one on the food network I salivate. Thank god I don't have to go to Vegas just to get my lobster roll. One day I will make it to the east coast.

Really exceptional hot and buttery Maine Lobster Roll...I would highly recommend it for anyone to try but if you're from back East and looking for a taste of home then this is just the place. The lobster was steamed to perfection. The only drawback is the slaw had a little too much bite for my taste, but did not detract from the hero of the meal...the lobster.

I'd heard good things about this food cart, and found myself in the area so decided to give it a try. I would agree that this is an expensive item compared to other carts, but the lobster portion is fair for the price and I was happy with what we got. I got the hot lobster roll, would definitely make the trip to get it again

During my visit to Portland over the weekend, a friend introduced me to the food cart scene. I was skeptical, having a culinary and restaurant management background with heavy emphasis on sanitation. I was a bit scared of what I would find. After a walk around Cartlandia, the menu at Maine Street Lobster was very appealing, but the cleanliness and professional look of the cart was what sold me. The cart owners were working the cart themselves, and were very friendly. They let me sample both of their soup offerings (lobster bisque and clam chowder) so I could decide which one to buy. I got the clam chowder, which was delicious! I also got a hot lobster roll, which came with Ruffles chips and home made coleslaw, which I loved (actually may have been my favorite part of the meal). Although it was a bit on the pricey side, I was full and satisfied without being over stuffed when I finished. Also, they seem to be the only cart in Cartlandia doing free refills on drinks, which was a nice bonus!

Authentic Maine lobster roll. Huge, fresh Maine lobster claws included. We had warm & cold sandwiches. Both excellent. Bread is just like serve in main. Great service. Nice that Cart area has covered seating & even alcohol. Definitely recommend
