Our group ended up here when we realized that the Hop and Vine down the street did not allow children on their premises after 6pm. I was really bummed and had very low expectations. But I was actually really surprised by this place! I had very low hopes for it since the food at the Hawthorne location was not appetizing to me at all. But surprise, surprise! The food here is good! I had the tuna melt and was very happy. The pizza is also quite delicious. The caesar salad was something special, though. Someone in my group ordered it and I was able to sample it. Wow. I'll go back for that. Also, the Super Dog IPA is one of my favorite IPA's in this city. So, how can you go wrong with that? Yeah, the staff is kinda "mellow" (lazy) and the cleanliness/stickiness factor is less than to be desired. But whatever. A beer or two will make you not care about either one of those things. Yet another kid friendly place with amazing beer on tap. Gotta give love for that.

It's nice to have a Lab in the neighborhood. Don't know why it took me so long to visit but have visited three times since popping my cherry last week. As with other Lab locations, this is a great place to meet a group of friends and have a few (delicious) brews. The pizza is good, and they have it by the slice. Win. Check for specials.

great space, very friendly folks. didn't try any of the alcoholic beverages, but the food is pretty tasty. excellent craft brew root beer, terrible luke warm coffee. good place to meet up and hang out. family/kid friendly.

Love their beer, Dislike their logo (too cartoonish), so I can't find myself buying a Tshirt or pint glass, but I will not turn down their beer. I went to the Lucky Lab in Multnomah Village last time I visited Portland and really enjoyed their pizza and their beer lineup. So, now that I was working up here again, I had to return to pet the Lab and see if he still is wagging his tail and making good beer. My memory served me right, and they continue to serve you good beer. And I was fortunate enough to visit during fresh hop season, so I got to enjoy the seasonal "The Mutt", and OMG amazing... a great hopped session IPA.... definitely try and get to a location when on tap to try this fresh beer.

Pros: Good beer and amazing pizza. If it's busy, we'll order the pizza to go and drink a beer while we wait. Cons: The dog friendly sitting area is right on the sidewalk (a couple picnic tables) unlike the other LL's that have actual patios where your dogs can go play.

Lucky Lab has moved to my hood and I am a little ashamed that it's taken me this long to review it. If you are looking for the best beer in Portland, this is probably not your place. If you are looking for 5 star service with ambiance, good luck finding it here. But if you are looking for a nearby spot to have a sandwich, drink a beer and not get screamed at for bringing in your chihuahua, this is your place! There is a giant chalkboard on the wall that tells you what is available for consumption in the beer department. I like this idea because I am usually the jerk hole who orders the beer that they "just ran out of." In addition to beer, they offer a variety of sandwiches, soups and pizzas. I was just there the other day and had a garlic pizza that surprisingly knocked my little socks off! I usually stick with the Rose Garden when it comes to sandwiches. It's a kaiser roll with hummus and fresh veggies piled on it. One thing that would be nice is if they had fries on the menu but I am not complaining because my pants are feeling snug these days as it is. Overall, Lucky Lab serves it's purpose. Its like the dude that you only kind of like but hang out with anyway, because everyone else is missing in action.

Alright, I love a good beer n pizza joint. This place is cute. It's front room is well designed, the back rooms are kinda too open and weird but whatever.. this place has good beer. What it doesn't have is good sandwiches. The three of us had a No-Po, a 5 cheese meltdown and a pulled pork. Apparently the NoPo was alright, but the 5 cheese was bland. But maybe thats because I had to scrape off the 1/3 of a cup of Jalapeno's on it. And whatever cheese was put on it, it tasted like it was processed. The pulled pork was boring. And dry.. There didn't seem to be any kick, or sauce to it. Why? Slather that shit up! And it took forevah.. to get to us. But that may have been because their was only one person working the counter at the front. On a Friday night. The staff was really nice however, so nothing against them 'tall. Having said that however, the beer was good and we're betting (based on the breadsticks) that the pizza would prob be good. It was local, so that's a plus. I think we'll try it again, but next time.. just the pizza. O yeah, try the Black sheep IPA. Very Guiness-esque. cheers.

Short simple review... Table service prices deserve table service. Get out from behind the bar and help the patrons or no tip for you! Beer Good Food Average Service BAD Great place for large groups. Just don't expect service with a smile.

I enjoy lucky lab ... or lubby lab as my 3 year old nephew calls it. Speaking of kids they run this place on Friday and Saturday nights. Not sure if someone spiked the sippy cups with red bull but lucky lab brings out the crazy kiddos. Its a good thing that there pints are 20oz and 2 or 3 get me to the stage I stop thinking about tripping a kids a they run by screaming...jk. I can tell you the Super Dog is great, I don't bother with anything else. My food go to are the half club sandwich and Greek salad and the pizza is always a solid choice, be careful if you are not a fan of garlic as they go pretty heavy.

Went here with a group of people. There is so much space; you can be in three different rooms under one roof. The tab was good and food was decent. Overall, it was a bit bigger than your neighborhood bar but it serves the masses need.

Big tables make it great for groups. It's a frequent venue for Meetup.com events for this reason. It's in a great neighborhood. I've only eaten one thing here but I liked it.

I've now been to this location several times. For me, this is in close running for the best Lucky Lab in PDX (Hawthorne is still my fave). Not all the Labs have pizza AND sandwiches. This one does. I really really like the sandwiches here and at the Hawthorne location. The pizza at this location is, by far, the best of all the Lucky Labs in PDX. Lotsa beer. Lotsa good food. There is a party space available that we have rented out and it is great.

The Monday afternoon bartender lady, is not very nice. Dark hair, glasses, 40's? wanted me to leave, with my therapy pet, until I enlightened her.

Great food, great space, good beer. If it were great beer it would garner five stars. I love the pizza, specifically their vegetarian choices and their single slices. The salads are awesome, unique and fresh. The mix of people hanging out here nightly are a true testament of how cool NoPo can be. If I wasn't so obsessed with Saraveza and a few other places in the area this place would be on our monthly list.

I had great memories for many years back of the Lucky Labrador and this stop did not measure up. The beer was okay not great. The food was okay, so in summary the whole trip was just okay. I visited their original place many years ago and really liked the Poter, but this time is was just okay.

  • Stephanie A.

This place can be a hit or a miss, but for me it's always a HIT because I always get the same thing, the BIG DOG Pizza. If I'm in the mood for a hearty, meaty, saucy, "not-soggy" thin crust pizza I go here. They never skimp on toppings and I love that, there's always plenty to take home. If you're hanging out they've got darts and an extensive beer selection. The service is never stellar, the atmosphere so-so but if you want a rock solid pizza to satisfy major hunger pains Lucky Lab is for you.

This is quite possibly the worst beer and food I have had in Portland. I have made better beer from home brew kits and that's not saying much as I don't liken myself to a brewer. The beer was flavorless had zero mouth feel and no flavor whatsoever. Neither my husband nor I finished our beers which never happens. The pizza was a floppy doughy mess and was on the verge of being raw(the dough). My husband said that his club sandwich was not bad except for the fact that it seemed to have microwave bacon on it. Really sad as this is a great location and so close to my house but I will never go back. In a town full of fantastic food and even better beer there is no reason to return.

The Lucky Lab is good for one thing - consistency. The beer is good with rotating taps and some familiar favorites. Pizza by the slice is decent and sometimes they run food/drink specials. For the most part the staff seem very unhappy that they are working there and unhappier still that you decided to visit. They are great for groups and can usually accommodate large parties.

  • Alan R.

Great beer and a really awesome ambiance make this a NoPo haunt. Cool with families and that's what makes it a pub, not a bar, that and no liquor. It is a nice quaint relaxing neighborhood pub and it's local, lacking the overly financed out of town money common on the Portland brewery scene

    (5)
  • Khem C.

Nice family friendly bar. Great for lunch/dinner and happy hour. The beer here, if you like IPA, are amazing! Their tap change every so often, so it's never the same.

I guess I like there pizza, it's good. But the service there is kinda annoying, I went there and I was the only person there I asked for a pepperoni pizza, I sat down and 5 minutes later they say:" we're out of pepperoni." I said I'll just have cheese.... They were also out of cheese and that they could make a new one in 8 minutes or so. I waited... Then I look at the time and realize I've been there for and hour. I just forgot about it and got something else, it was a very bad experience

Though my first few experiences were awful, they have improved since. They do need to work on giving proper info on the phone, but the newer staff are friendly and reliable. Growing on me.

This is definitely my favorite neighborhood pub! The vibe is just my speed - relaxed and mellow. My wife gives me a hard time because I request that we come here every time she mentions having a meal out. However, very hard to pass up pizza with broccoli and SUPER DOG or peanuts and Stumptown PORTER!!!

One of the traditions the wonderful UP English department has is taking graduating seniors out for drinks during finals week spring semester. In May 2012, after 3 years of waiting, my fellow English majors and I came here with our awesome professors. I don't like beer so I can't comment on that--though the white wine (chardonnay or sauvingnon blanc, I think) I had was pretty good. We also had some appetizers; the chips and salsa were good though I can't remember what else we had. The food wasn't anything to ride home about, but I had a great time with my friend, classmates, and professors! Also, I'm not sure if the prices are reasonable, cheap, or expensive since food and drinks were not on my dime. :-)

  • Tierney C.

I love this place, but my only complaint is FIGURE OUT YOUR WIFI! It's turrible. I love that I can sit there with a beer and surf my ipad in peace but the WiFi is consistently awful. Staff is super friendly, beer is delicious.

Nice atmosphere. We liked the Mediterranean pizza and will be back to try something else. Good red wine for a beer joint.

I love this place. That's all there is to it. I used to live right around the corner from this place, so I would come here pretty often with my roommates and friends. It's not too loud, you don't have to deal with the stereotypical drunken frat bros, and the service is excellent. They have an awesome selection of beers on tap and they're always bringing in new stuff. So every time you go in there's going to be something you haven't had before, and you can sample anything to make sure you'll like it first. Whenever a friend would visit this is where I would bring them and we never had a bad time. It's a perfect place to get caught up with each other and just enjoy a good drink with some food. The sandwiches are all excellent, and I personally recommend the turkey. It's a big winner. The pizza is pretty good too, you really can't go wrong here. Check out the menu, find something that peaks your interest, then get it. You'll like it. My favorite time to come here is during the Summer. They have some nice tables out front under some great shade trees and it's a perfect place to hang out for awhile with a friend or two. The neighborhood is relaxed, and dogs are welcome to enjoy the scene with you outside. There's something about this place that attracts friendly people, and it's super easy to strike up a conversation with someone. All I've go to say is that you should give this place a shot. It's wonderful.

The one redeeming factor of this place is the wonderful beer. Give me a hop-charged Super Dog IPA or two and I can overlook many things, including the fact that I refer to this location as the Sad Lab... The beer is great. Of course my fave is the above referenced Super Dog, but I am also rather fond of the Stout. However, the selection doesn't seem to be as big as the other locations. They also offer cider and wine for the non- beer drinkers. The food ain't bad, but it sure ain't great either. The main fare is soup, pizza and sandwiches. There's nothing too creative, but it will soak up the beer as good as anything else. There are two things I'm not such a fan of here. The folks move about as fast as traffic on I-5 on a Friday and act like they are doing you a huge favor when they finally acknowledge you. Also beware the numerous wobbling tables here. Seriously. Fix your tables. I think I've lost the equivalent of a full beer over several visits to this nonsense. While I can't quite get excited about this location, it still serves up the same great Lab beer, so it's A-OK with me.

I'm a fan of thin-crust pizza; and their crust is light and crispy. But the best thing about the pizza is the roasted garlic. Its the best! I always buy it by the slice. I get whatever is the meat option of the day. I like the sandwiches here. I also agree with the other reviewers here: get rid of the ruffles. The Bavarian style wheat beer is my favorite they have on tap.

    (4)
  • Mich N.

You've done something right with your sauce and your crust/dough. But why is the atmosphere so uncomfortable and the beer so expensive? Also your sandwiches are just "okay." I dare you to get some other hot food other than pizza. I would be sitting outside and slurping beer and whiskey (if you would even serve the stuff!) and eating the most delicious burger in town ( that is if you made burgers here). I'm just disappointed ... A new restaurant opens across the street and it is over priced and uncomfortable. The pizza is good but never good enough to spend the dough...

  • Christine S.

Full disclosure: I'm a complete pizza snob. Don't get me wrong, I will eat almost any pizza but I do have strong opinions on what is good. My definition of a great pizza is one in which the pizza is cooked at super high temperatures, making a crisp crust with a light interior. The sauce needs to be simple but make your mouth water when you taste it. The ingredients also need to be well balanced and high quality, making sure not to overload them. This is basically the philosophy of Lucky Lab and so far they are one of my top pizza places in Portland,OR! Everything about it was pure perfection. The crust--thin, crispy, with a little bit of fluff. The sauce was so fresh and a perfect balance of savory/sweet. The cheese--top quality--not too much--not too little. I highly recommend you going to your neighborhood Lucky Lab and grab a slice of heaven! -Christine S-

I like the beer here, I do, but it starts off weird when you have a big menu of cleverly named beers, but nothing at all about the style. The 2 times I have been, the person manning the bar has been okay; saying what they like, but not much about the beer. Saying, it tastes like this but with more citrus, or it's like this but less hoppy. It's really not too hard to used simple adjectives like, "Stout" "Lager" or "IPA," seriously, Widmer even knows that much! I can't speak of the food, but man it sure looks expensive! The atmosphere is lame, the music playing was okay, but there was little going on. You can't belly up to the bar, there is no table service despite 25 dollar pizzas, and it's just plain sterile. There are so many good breweries and places to eat in this town, I don't see any reason to come back. Plus, I saw the mini-vans flocking just as I was leaving; and that my friends, is what we call a close call.

  • Abbey M.

I loved the theme but the service was slow (took 40 min to get our pizza and the restaurant was 3/4 empty)...the beer selection was decent, but the pizza was overpriced for it's quality. I would go back for a drink, but not for dinner.

  • Caitlin S.

Not impressed. Only good things were my IPA and the comfy booth. That being said, the IPA was not the best I have ever had, it was meh. We paid far too much money for poor service. The place was empty yet we had to go to the bar to order a very expensive pizza which reminded me of the culinary expertise of Papa Murphy's...which is to say it was ok, and definitely not worth all the money we forked over for it. My boyfriend and I weren't impressed with the service, and we desperately wanted to like this place since we live so close. After having a meal there we determined only if we are desperate for a beer close to home will we go there...but fortunately, we have other options most of the time. Also I didn't see any TVs there. A bar that big should have a television. And the background music? It was metal. I wasn't really impressed, it didn't seem to go with the ambiance of the bar.

    (1)
  • J L.

The only redeeming thing about this place is the Belgian IPA, which was not on the menu when I went last night. The service is poor here. The food menu really isnt that good. Just not that good, but not bad enough to give 2 stars.

  • Wolf L.

I like the set-up of the place. You order everything at the counter, they give you a number (just like Carl's Jr.) and somebody shags the food out to you when it's ready. The food just isn't particularly...good. We ordered chips and salsa. There were a lot of chips on the tray, but they were obviously poured straight out of a bag. The guacamole was also paste-like and clearly squeezed out of tube or tub. The sandwich we ordered was massive and full of meat. The chips were generic Ruffles. There was nothing particularly impressive about the sandwich--not in the preparation or presentation. You could easily make the same food in your own kitchen. I got a slice of pizza, too. It was re-heated--perhaps a couple of times. I wonder how long it had been sitting around that day. Not exactly flavorful and totally forgettable. The staff seemed particularly bored and disinterested. When I approached the bar, one of the gals shot me an irritated look--I was interrupting her conversation with her co-worker. My bad. The beer was okay. Served in a nice, big pint glass and cheap at happy hour. There's a sad vibe at this spot. If my wife kicks me out, my dog dies or I need a melancholic corner to brood in, I'll go back here. Otherwise, there are many more cheerful joints with better atmosphere, food, beer and service to patronize.

We had a great experience here. The staff were happy to answer all our questions, the beer (we enjoyed a pitcher of Copperopolis) was fantastic and the Greek pizza was delicious- it was COVERED in toppings- even if we smelled like garlic all night. We'll definitely be coming back.

This is the newest of three restaurants of the Lucky Labrador Brewing Company, so it can be confusing when you're searching for it on Yelp or elsewhere. We took my daughter's family (including 4 and 6 yr old girls) and had a great time with good food. When I was dithering about which beer to order, the barkeep set me up two samples (without my asking), which made up my mind right away. They have kid-friendly PB&J and grilled cheese sandwiches. We had the Hot Diggity Dog pizza which comes with "spicy sauce" that was plenty spicy, but my wife and I are wimps in the spicy dept (she gave up after 1/2 piece and ordered a sandwich. I was OK with the pizza, but would not have wanted it any spicier). Others had the generous Caesar salad and loved it. We ate on the picnic tables on the sidewalk (but kept the little ones on the side away from the street, as the tables are really close) I'm looking forward to going again

I am so thrilled that Lucky Lab has moved to the Overlook Neighborhood. This new location is perfect, just steps from the yellow line max! Divided into 3 large rooms, the lab is perfect for a quick drink and a slice of pizza or a raging game of darts on their new dart boards. Come and check it out! Gotta love their miser Mondays specials!!!

This place preys upon those new parents who are still young enough to still want to go out but can't always find the babysitter. That's the only thing I can think of as to why this place is always friggin' busy. It blows the mind. It didn't stop me from checking it out, though. I had to see for myself. I've only ever been to the LL in NW for a beer or two, so I really can't compare it to its counterparts. I also didn't get a chance to experience Roux before they got rid of it. What I do know is, whatever you order is what you get. My roast beef sandwich lacked any semblance of effort. Maybe I should have stuck to pizza? But why bother when I can get amazing pizza and beer down the street at Eddie's?

  • LISA S.

I'm not so sure about you Lucky Lab North.... Is it a good idea to trade dogs for screaming babies, open patios for cold exteriors, add a slice of mediocre pizza with no table service? On the other hand, this spot is perfect for groups. The staff was exceedingly nice and charming. The space, albeit cold, was clean. The beer, albeit expensive and got me drunkedy drunk drunk drunk. I had $50 worth of fun, but its pretty hard NOT to have fun when you drop that kind of cash on beer and a slice. I will not be back unless it is with a large group again. Compared to the others, this location is a Meh.

I like Lucky Lab. I don't think they have the best beer in Portland - but they have pretty good beer. I like that this is more local (I wish there were more brewpubs in North Portland - St. Johns could definitely use something not McMenamins) to me. I like their pizza & their sandwiches. Are they awesome? No. But they are good. I've never been overwhelmed by the small children that seem to pester others (and I've been maybe a half dozen times since they opened, twice for lunch, a couple of times for happy hour, and a couple times later). I still frequent Laurelwood, on occasion, even though the number of rugrats in there makes me cringe at times. They don't have table service, but neither do any of the other locations. They don't allow dogs inside, but I know that at the NW location, dogs are patio only as well (also true for the SE location?). I don't have a dog. I don't like dogs all up in my pizza and beer, so I don't care. The atmosphere is definitely different than Roux's (I do miss Roux), but it should be. However, I do think that they could do something different to warm it up a bit - it's lacking something. The reason they get four stars instead of three, though, is a couple of weeks ago, I stopped in for lunch on Friday (it's my Friday beer lunch tradition - don't judge). I was one of three customers. My food was fresh and hot. My beer was fantastic. My second beer was free. Why you might ask? As the server said, it was to compensate me for having to put up with their 'construction.' Their construction was two men installing soap dispensers. Not at my table. Or in the bar. In the kitchen and bathrooms. They obviously didn't bother me, but I sure did accept that free beer! So - maybe they're not the most fantastic brewpub in the land, but they are a great place for a laid back lunch or happy hour. The service is friendly, and they really seem to care about their customers. All wins in my book.

This place was chosen for a lunch date because it was believed that I could bring my dog inside, as the theme of the place suggests. However, due to Oregon laws surrounding animals and food sales, it's not an option, we were sternly reminded. Strike one. We tie my dog up outside so we can order some food at the counter inside. I order a tuna melt and my cousin orders some meat-medley sandwich whose name alluded to upsetting vegetarians. We both wanted coffee (workday...so, sadly, no mid-afternoon beer option for us, even though we're at a brew house). They had to brew a new pot, but gave us half cups of what was left in the last pot. Fine. But we had to come back in to get a full, fresh cup, which is what we payed for in the first place. They wouldn't bring coffee out to us and the attitude was like they were doing us a favor to brew a new pot. Strike two. I know there's no table service, but c'mon. So, we sit outside with our half cups on rain-soaked benches. Our two sandwiches come out with quite a bit of time in between, but it's alright because the tuna melt is surprisingly tasty (maybe a 3 1/2 out of 5 stars). And my cousin was very pleased with his meat sandwich. Unfortunately, both came with those run-of-the-mill potato chips that someone always brings to a BBQ because they're cheap and easy. No french fries. Sadness. We never hit strike three, which I suppose is a good thing. Overall, this was a 'meh' experience for sure, but I was never expecting to be blown away.

Ok, the pizza was good. I'll give them that, but that's all the praise I can give them. After eating a slice of pizza, I grabbed another piece and put it on my plate. I picked it up to take a bite and realized that there were 3 ants running around on my pizza. YES, ANTS!! I very politely brought the pizza to the woman at the front desk and showed her the ants. She said, "oh, do you want a different slice?" I think I was in a bit of shock because I declined and was just flabbergasted at how she handled the entire situation. We left almost an entire $25 pizza sitting on the table. I really wanted to love this place but their customer service leaves a lot to be desired as do their sanitation practices.

Went for dinner & beer with the family. Food was horrible. Stale corn chips, tasteless salad, sweetened and overly sauced pizza, and a ruben that tasted like feet. Beer was good. I was so psyched when Lucky Lab moved to the neighborhood. Please please make it a decent as the one on Hawthorne. The bento there is awesome.

If you're a fan of the Lucky Lab experience, you'll no doubt love the new Lucky Lab Tap Room. Personally, I give them top marks for beer, but I found the atmosphere far from cozy. They took the space that formerly housed Roux and stripped the soul out of it, leaving a somewhat barren feel that is accentuated by the brightness of the lights and the bareness of the walls. Food comes mostly in the pizza and sandwich varieties, which is probably why this place seems to be a popular draw for families with children. Anyway, it's nice to see this stretch of Killingsworth continue to come alive.

I cant believe this place is only a few blocks from where I live and I never went there until last week! The atmosphere is great, very open and inviting. The staff were very helpful, although when I came in they seemed understaffed for a friday night. Great menu of pizza and beer, the best combination anyone could have. I had two of the most delicious IPA's and slices of pepperoni pizza I had in a long time. The staff was very knowledgeable about their beer and everyone patron seemed to enjoy themselves. I will definitely come back for more because supporting local breweries is always a good thing! I felt like a lucky lad in the Lucky Lab.....

I was so looking forward to this...but alas' it was a huge disappointment. The beer is mediocre (for pdx) and the food is worse! Such fond memories of the Lucky Lab in Multnomah Village: the pizza was good and bowl of peanuts or hummus and breadsticks as a snack - great. No longer. Looks like the owners lost touch and are going for quantity versus quality. Please make your pizza interesting, like cornmeal crust or just decent (btw there are three other pizza places on the street within a 2 mile radius - step it up.)

Reading some of the reviews on this, the latest Lucky Lab, left me pretty stunned. Marking a restaurant /pub down because it doesn't allow dogs inside? Some Portland dog owners badly need a reality check. Wow... This new Lucky Lab fits in well with the model of the other locations. The food is simple, including a pretty good pizza, and it's not expensive. The beer is seldom stellar, but it is a good line up of solid brews with a style for everyone. Due to the shifting demographics of the neighborhood, this location is frequented by young families. But the Lucky Lab is not stressing this to the point of obnoxiousness and it has not been annoying (looking at you laurelwood). I like The Lucky Lab's new addition, and I don't even have a dog.

Please see Andrew C's review below because I feel exactly the same way. I came here, had a glass of vino (mediocre), watched other people drink beer they thought was mediocre and ate a mediocre sandwich with some Ruffles potato chips. Come on, ruffles potato chips? You can't come up with something better than that? I mean, throw me a friggin bone here... {growl} It's a weirdly spaced out location and yah, the baby thing, ugh. The place was full, both outside and inside, of young couples with little rugrats. This is NOT what I come to a bar for. Fortunately, the rugrats can have it. I don't live anywhere near there and I can't imagine ever going out of my way again for it. Friends of ours managed to convince us to go and after fighting with traffic for nearly an hour to get there, I damn well know it will never be worth it again.

What a waste of space. They don't even allow dogs, the food is a joke and they closed and told us to "chug-a-lug" our beers at midnight on Friday night. The neighborhood breeders can have this one. I'm over it. I have to agree with the previous reviewers, how sad that they took the beautiful interior Roux was and just made it another shitty pub with no character or class. We need places to go in NoPo but not badly enough to support this garbage.

Can I just say something to all of the people on here bitching about not being able to bring their dogs into the Lucky Lab? THE REASON THAT YOU CAN'T BRING YOUR DOGS INSIDE IS BECAUSE IT IS ILLEGAL TO HAVE A ANIMAL OF ANY KIND IN AN ESTABLISHMENT WHERE THEY SERVE FOOD!!! It is completely against health code...also, they have NEVER advertised that The Lucky Lab is a place where you can bring your damn dog inside. I mean am I going crazy here? I seriously thought that people were a bit smarter... what exactly would you think if you were to walk into ANY OTHER restaurant/bar/brew pub and saw a fucking animal? I would run the other way. I would rather not have animals in and around my food/beer thank you very much. Now I am not trying to hate on dog owners or anything like that. I have 2 dogs and love them more than anything else. In fact, they are like my children...but I still understand an respect the laws and THAT is why I don't bitch and moan when I can't bring them to certain places. You may love your pets like your children, but the plain fact is that they are NOT children and therefore do not belong in restaurant. ** and for all those of you who say that you can bring your dogs to the other lucky labs...that is also NOT TRUE. You can bring them on the patio. The beer is great. the food is good and the people who work there are all different and interesting characters. Get over it

Great place to hang out with your dog. This location is smaller than the others so I would suggest a small dog pack if you're meeting friends. They are also big in the community with hosting events for DoveLewis Emergency Pet Hospital which are always a blast. The pizza is good and hits the spot with an ice cold beer.

Being from New York, I will admit to being a bit of a pizza snob. I usually find that most pizza can't hold a candle to what you get on just about every corner in NY. However,I have never found a place that makes pizza worse than the one I got last time at Lucky Lab. It was a vegan pizza, so right there I should have known better, buy hey the vegan foccachia pizza at Hot Lips is pretty darn tasty, so I thought I would give it a try. Big mistake. First, the vegan pizza is only about a dollar or two less than all the cheesy, meaty options. When I finally got it (about 10 minutes after my friend got her food) I found by vegan they meant tasteless marinara with a few day old veggies on top. Absolutely nothing extra to give it any flavor, not even some visible basil. So I ended up paying close to twenty bucks for a gross pizza I threw away 2 days later after forgetting about it in my oven. I think in the future I will stick to one of the actually good restaurants on Killingsworth.

Overall this place is better than its ranking currently indicates. Don't let the negative reviews deter you from checking this place out. Give them time and patronage and I'm sure the folks at the lucky lab will iron out the kinks. First of all, you should know what to expect from Lucky Lab beer. If you don't, it's good. Not the mind-blowingly awesome, but acceptable by Portland standards, which is an accomplishment in of itself. The pizza is excellent. Doughy, hearty, plentiful. In a neighborhood with no shortage of pizza options, Lucky Lab keeps up with the joneses. The outdoor seating area is not as great as other lucky labs but it is still a nice area to mingle with Overlook residents and their canines. Sitting a mere few inches from the occasional passing Bus can be a little off-putting but overall it's still a pleasant space to enjoy your brew outdoors. It's not fair to compare this location to the Pearl location or even the SE location. The space just isn't as conduce to a wonderful outdoor area. They did the best they can considering the location. The inside seems like its still a work-in-progress. There are some materials scattered throughout the back that give the impression that it's not quite finished yet, so hopefully they tie up the lose ends soon. There is a nice free dart area, which is always a plus. The service has been friendly every time I've been there. Not phony, in your face, friendly; but what service in Portland is? I get the impression that the staff is down to earth and wants everybody to have a good time. What else could you ask for?

My wife and I have been to the Lucky Lab on Hawthorne, and the reason was for a dachshund meetup. It was pretty cool to have a beer, some basic food, and let the dogs run around leash less in a little area separate from the main bar (outside) that was undercover. This was the reason to come to the Lucky Lab. And no, I don't think the dogs should be inside, unless it is a service dog. This location, however, seems quite strange. There is an outdoor area that is uncovered, but it is part of the sidewalk, so it isn't really a place to let your four legged friend roam free. So you can't bring the dog inside (understandably), and there isn't anyplace special outside that can't be found with any other establishment that has tables on the sidewalk. Now add to that, you have the basic fare for food and beer. The beer is just OK from a brew pub standpoint (passable), and the food is just OK. In fact, my wife and I just got a basic sandwich to split with the idea that we would go somewhere else to eat dinner. As others have pointed out, a sandwich should come with something a bit better than Ruffles for a side chip. Tim's, Kettle Chips...anything. So from that standpoint, I would give this three stars, but there is something else that is disturbing. Kids. Lots and lots of kids. Great if you are a parent that is looking to go out and have a few beers and not pay for a babysitter, but not so great for those of us who go to a bar for an adult atmosphere. I don't go to a bar to listen to children scream or watch them run around. If the bar wants to cater to this type of atmosphere (such as Laurelwood), that's fine...just let me know up front. Having a dog friendly LL on Hawthorne and an ankle biter friendly bar on Killingsworth is a bit schizophrenic. Look, when I go to Vegas, I am there to gamble, drink, eat good food, and partake in the more adult-oriented atmosphere. Therefore, I avoid known kid friendly places like Excaliber and go to The Bellagio or The Winn. I know what I am getting up front. Had I known that this was kid friendly, then I would not have made the trip out here. So, it's not that it is kid friendly; it is that it is kid friendly here but not at the other establishment, which set the wrong set of expectations. In short, if you are a family that wants to get average food, drink average beer, and you don't want to leave the kids at home so you can save a few bucks, then this is your place. You can have it.

I was really excited when this place opened then i went there. It's called the Lucky Labrador but you can't bring your dog there. The beer is ok they do have a few good brews on tap, but the food is a joke. The pizza and sandwiches are exactly like a high school cafeteria, except for the inflated prices. I was really surprised at the incredibly poor quality of the meat and bread and lack of anything else on perhaps the flattest driest sandwich in my history. I think that spot is just destine to be expensive and disappointing.

The Unlucky Lab At first when i heard no dogs I thought, wait..can this be??? IT certainly can. But wait. These guys stripped one of the most wonderful spaces created in Portland to a basement identical to the one my band practiced in during highschool. Seriously, what was management thinking? So, yeah, the decor is now urban basement but it feels hollow and cold. Roux had a warm atmosphere which was inviting. Now, welcome to my frat basement. Concerning the beer... Outstanding as usual but the Pizza was C at best. Considering NoPo's options, these guys have some improving to do if they care about making good pizza. I thought it was average and right on pace with Atomic's blandness which is less than 4 blocks down the road. Staff was friendly but not personal. Finally, my dogs view who is a lab btw... She cannot understand how they can use the name they use. There is no space for dogs and I believe they told me they were applying for a permit. Seems to me if you are going to call yourself a lucky lab, you must be uber dog friendly when your doors open. But, I digress... The experience was overall a non-compelling. It was alright, so-so, average, bland, whatever. Certainly not a stout replacement for Roux which was a culinary delight.

I have been going to the Lab for some years now, and I have been a North Portland resident for even longer. So I am happy to see a pub over on this side of town. First things first. For the people who are upset you could not take your dog inside. Well no s#*t Sherlock. Its against health code. And not once have I ever seen an ad saying that dogs are allowed inside. So if you thought that, and your visit was ruined, that's your fault for assuming things. And you know what assuming does? Secondly I also have noticed there are at times an abundance of children. Which can be annoying. But I am 30 and can choose to go to a 21 and over bar if I don't feel like being around it. And I would not give a place a bad review just cause children are allowed in. With that being said. Every time I go to any of them, everyone always seems chill, the beer is good and the food is what you pay for.

Funny layout of this restaurant keeps things interesting. The first time I was going to visit was right after it had opened so it was pretty crowded. Wow - what's up with the acoustics - I couldn't stay because the noise was deafening. It happened the second time I tried when it was again pretty crowded. So now I just go during random times when it's almost empty and i always enjoy the food, beer and general atmosphere. If it weren't for the bizarre noise issues, I'd frequent more often.

The only redeeming thing about this place is the Belgian IPA, which was not on the menu when I went last night. The service is poor here. The food menu really isnt that good. Just not that good, but not bad enough to give 2 stars.

This is definitely my favorite neighborhood pub! The vibe is just my speed - relaxed and mellow. :-)

Went here with a group of people. There is so much space; you can be in three different rooms under one roof. The tab was good and food was decent. Overall, it was a bit bigger than your neighborhood bar but it serves the masses need.

I loved the theme but the service was slow (took 40 min to get our pizza and the restaurant was 3/4 empty)...the beer selection was decent, but the pizza was overpriced for it's quality. I would go back for a drink, but not for dinner.

Very Guiness-esque. cheers.

Nice atmosphere. We liked the Mediterranean pizza and will be back to try something else. Good red wine for a beer joint.

I loved the theme but the service was slow (took 40 min to get our pizza and the restaurant was 3/4 empty)...the beer selection was decent, but the pizza was overpriced for it's quality. I would go back for a drink, but not for dinner.

The only redeeming thing about this place is the Belgian IPA, which was not on the menu when I went last night. The service is poor here. The food menu really isnt that good. Just not that good, but not bad enough to give 2 stars.

I love this place, but my only complaint is FIGURE OUT YOUR WIFI! It's turrible. I love that I can sit there with a beer and surf my ipad in peace but the WiFi is consistently awful. Staff is super friendly, beer is delicious.

Went here with a group of people. There is so much space; you can be in three different rooms under one roof. The tab was good and food was decent. Overall, it was a bit bigger than your neighborhood bar but it serves the masses need.

Sad atmosphere, mediocre beer, inattentive service and tasteless food. Go somewhere else.

I'm just saying maybe the Lucky Lab shouldn't discriminate against cats.
