I went back to the Local Lounge recently and left with the same feeling as the first time I went. I dig this place. The atsmosphere is super chill and the bartender is such a cool guy. The music is loud, too loud for me, but it's good music, so I will keep my complaining to a minimum. The drinks are cheap and strong! and I hear the food is pretty damn good too. I like this place, welcome to the neighborhood Local lounge!!!

I love going to the local for happy hour. Good service, tasty bites to eat and nice cozy atmosphere with a good vibe. In fact, I am going back again tonight.

Where do I start...well, I actually don't live too far from this place so when we went there for the very first time I thought 'how convenient'. The surrounding outside area is VERY 'sketchy-ghetto' but my friends and I gave it a try anyways. The bar is actually pretty nice inside. The owner does a good job keeping it clean, entertaining with a pool table and dance floor. The first time we went was during a barfly a few months back and we had a blast! The second time (last weekend) was definitely a different story...my purse was straight up stolen!! A lot of 'locals' go there and I honestly think they know who the 'newbies' are. SO WATCH OUT!! A girl name Nicole stole my purse and her family members had something to do with it. I don't know what to say about this place...the owner is super nice and I feel bad giving it a bad rating but at the same time I feel like he should be monitoring who he's letting in. I will NEVER EVER go back to this bar again! I would not recommend it to anyone.

For having been open for only about a month, Local Lounge has begun to draw the attention of NE Portlanders. After having walked into the location by complete coincidence, only having been in the area to go to another spot, I have to say that I am both impressed and bewildered by what I observed. But most importantly, I am greatly concerned by what I did not find after having tried to locate some information about the business online. After having conducted a basic Google search, a bit of relevant Social Media inquiry and a review search I was only capable of coming up with a single reference to the location, Google maps (at least people wont get lost trying to find a place they have never heard of). These results are dismal, making for quite a hard time for anyone who is interested in finding out more information about the lounge. But despite the lack of any online presence what so ever, the actual location is great. With enough space to host an event, as well as lottery and a pool table, plus a killer happy hour, Local Lounge has the facilities to really retain a loyal customer base. Local Lounge just needs a little guidance and a point in the right direction. Generation Y Score: 3 out of 5

Stopped in here on a rolling birthday party celebration - great space, great vibe, will visit again.

All are welcome here. Lot of regulars at this bar right on MLK. Friendly owner engages guests and makes you feel welcome. A few rotator taps and drink specials. I haven't had food here. Lots of events - check their window for flyers on upcoming events, music. Love the rotating art pieces. Lottery, clean bathrooms. Opens at 3:30pm.

Nice little neighborhood bar. It hasn't been overly busy the two times I've been in, but have had solid service and friendly conversation. Try the Disco Tots or Fries - very good. I haven't yet been here with any events, so will update if I hit a busier night. They also have a pool table and video poker.

An intimately pleasant gay bar. I was surprised at the neighborhood feel, and the friendliness of the patrons. I fully intend to return when I am back to town. At the end of the day, it is still a bar, but it has a far better feel than so many other gay spots I have been to before.

I love this place. Stiff drinks, gracious staff, friendly customers and a fun atmosphere. I felt like I could be myself and have a good time with my friends.

My favorite local bar. Always nice friendly people both tending and in the bar. Reasonably priced and the food is tasty. Only been to a couple events but have been busy and good entertainment for sure.

This is a fun place to grab a drink and gab with friends. It is sort-of in the middle of nowhere, which is my only complaint. The local usually has decent music playing. The bartenders are friendly, but could pour stiffer drinks... I think it's best to order a double. I'll be back when in town and friends want to go!

This place is soooooo DRY!!! If you truly have no life and/or bored then you go to the local lounge. A.) 2Pac should NEVER be played in a gay club, period. Watching a "Thug" switch with his pants sagging is NEVER a good thing. B.) The lounge was full of girly men & masculine women. WTF!!! C.) 2 big LGBT Rainbow Flags hanging from the building entrance(Ok not really my preference but whatever). D.) The drinks were watered down. E.) The pool table was lop-sided. F.) The music was so loud that we couldn't even hear each other. G.) The food was pretty lame but thankfully there's a Subway next door. GOOD LUCK!!!!

Inconsistency pisses me off. The website shows a totally different menu than what is available. Very disappointed going for dinner based on their published online menus and the menu presented. Love the space and all that. Their website and social media sites need to be synced, they currently are not. Service and bartenders are top notch!

Just like any bar. It is what you want to make it. My suggestion is to come in relax and have a great drink and some food. They have music and a wonderful music. If you are looking for some fun come in during the great special event nights.

This place is the best. They support so many communities, lesbian, bears, artists, even church stuff? Awesome. Non profit fundraisers, acoustic shows, loud dances, birthday parties... You guys are family! I've seen all generations, races and cultures here. I've met straight people who feel comfy there also. The owner is great to work with. Great art, food, and atmosphere. Parking is tough to find, and too small for big events though. It's a gayborhood of it's own! Hugs

My first time to Local Lounge was first Twerk. I wasn't a fan at first because of the small dance floor, but I loved the music so much I have gone back several times. I'm used to the small dance floor now and I just shove my way in there to dance. The bartender is nice and there are seating options available throughout the bar. I have not been here outside of Twerk, though.

I want to say that I came on a Tuesday night. It was pretty empty when I wandered in. I simply wanted to get drunk and this cavern of a lounge did just that. I would like to speak more of the bartender. I didn't get her name. I know that she wore plaid and had lip rings - but then again this is Portland - and that is somehow the dress code or part of it. She was awfully nice. She kept the beer coming along. I would like to commend her about the house salad. Apparently it is a member of the House Specials list for $4.00. I really didn't care about the cheap price. I wanted something healthy - at a bar - which is pretty odd. The salad was served on a modern rectangular dish and piled high with croutons. There was Ranch salad. The bartender went in the mysterious kitchen - which is to the right and in the darker part of the large room - to make it. She came back and it was the best salad I ever had at a bar. I know that it sounds odd but it was good. There was '90's music playing on and America's Got Talent. The beer was good and I'm willing to come back again on a night that doesn't have any people.

Ok, been here a few times and this place is just a mess. They should change the name to "Identity Crisis" because the bar and the bartenders seem to have it. The bar doesn't know what it wants to be.....Sometimes you go, and its all women, sometimes you go and it's all men, by all I mean like 10 or 11. it's definitely not a destination bar as you never know what's going on until you get there. Then you drive almost 20 min to get there and there's a crazy cover charge with like 10 people in the bar. They just seem to try way too hard, like that Chinese restaurant that just opened and they are waiting for you at the door because the place is empty. The two "girl" bartenders that work there seem to think they are alpha males and are constantly macking on other girls and won't give you the time of day while you wait patiently for a drink. There are three or four "regular" snobby gay guys that sit at the bar and judge people, you know, the typical "has been" types that won't give you the time of day either. And then there's the crackheads that are in and out and accost you while you are outside. it's just a really weird vibe, not at all comfortable, the music is hit or miss and the DJ's can be good sometimes, but that's really not worth a trip out there. I really wanted to like this place, but seriously I just gave up.

Great bar! It is about time they started opening gay bars somewhere outside of the Pearl. Nice interior - the decor is fun but not over the top and I liked the layout. Some bars do not have good spaces set up to actually sit and talk to your friends. This bar has lots of perfect spaces set up, pours a good drink for a good price. I will say I am impressed someone finally opened a non dive bar in a dive bar side of town giving people over there options. It looks like they also do a lot of fun stuff throughout the week as well bringing in small crowds.

  • Rick S.

Oh no.. The $5 cover and the pat down at the door should have been a clue. Doesn't seem like a safe hang out. The DJ/music was way too loud. We couldn't even talk amongst ourselves over the music. Friendly bartender. I won't be interested in returning.

Although Local Lounge is waaaaay across town from where I live, I still like trekking over to this little slice of awesomeness. And it's definitely little! Weeknights is normally good for people wanting to grab drinks and food with friends, while weekends are perfect for those who are down to party. I personally enjoy coming for "TWERK," which is a queer, hip-hop dance event hosted on the 4th Friday of every month. First time I went it was ok. Second time - much better! The space can fill up quickly, and when it does, it gets hot in there! No worries though, because you can easily step outside if need be to cool off. The drinks are definitely priced right ($6 for two beers?!?!), the bartenders are attentive, they have some pretty good seating options, and there's a pool table in the back. Me likes this. My friend and I came over for some beers and a couple rounds of pool on a weeknight. It wasn't packed, there was no cover, the games were free, and the music was good. Hells yeah! I've seen some people complaining about the neighborhood, but I haven't had a problem. I love this bar.

Very relaxed atmosphere gay bar and in a "daring" location to open one. I say that though in a proud way - kudos to the owner!!

After a night with friends at some trendy Pearl District joints, my partner and I decided to come here with two of our friends from the dinner jaunt. It was a meet and greet for a rodeo rider. I was surprised that a gay bar on a Saturday night was so sparsely populated. We got there at about 10:45 p.m. and there was maybe 20 folks inside. It was nice to visit with friends though without a bunch of hiphop, thumpa thumpa music and 'gaybies' running all around. This is a nice place to have a good drink and visit with your gay friends.

A welcoming, mellow, inexpensive lesbian bar on the east side...yay! The music is definitely hit or miss but there are always lots of people dancing who don't seem to care that the dj doesn't really know how to mix records. Friendly female staff and only a couple of weird leering dudes. Overall, a fun place to hang out on a Friday night.

I like it here. People are nice. The place is chill. * Just watch out for the big douche in the scarf who cheats at pool.

Stopped by here and got some wings and a drink. The ginger-infused vodka was delicious, and the wings were no joke. It was a lot nicer than I thought it would be on the inside. Very clean. I hope to check out drag night on Wednesday sometime. They have a parking lot to turn into just North of the building. I didn't know that all this time.

Been here twice and The environment is very relaxed and chill. The bartenders are nice. The drinks are good, The only downside for me was the portions of the food were a bit on the smaller side. The tater tot casserole was good but so tiny. I will def be back.

I really love going to Local Lounge. It's close and on a major bus line. The staff is always open and welcoming. They have great drinks and the food is not your typical bar food. They welcome everyone into the bar, but are clearly a LGBTQ bar. You should check them out if you get a chance.

Friendliest staff, good drinks in a fun atmosphere. Yes, they are finding their footing, but well on their way to establishing themselves. My new favorite hangout!

It's a ballsy move to open a gay bar in a strip mall on MLK, and the result is as messy as you might guess. The overhead lighting is off-putting; the music on a Friday night at 11pm in a mostly empty bar was uncomfortably loud and of the cheesy 80s gay bar variety; the bartender was the wrong vibe for a neighborhood hangout; and as described by a previous poster, the decor is straight out of a Barnes and Noble in the 90s. The artwork on the walls is a total misfire. The existence of this place and Hamburger Marys should once and for all disprove the myth that gay people have style.

I see my friend already Yelped about this joint. Seriously-I have never been taken care of like this ever, especially at a new bar. (Not that I normally end up with a friend puking outside). The DJ was accommodating and the owner was Superfantastik! He made sure we had a cab and even moved our car for us. It's not like we were hobknobbing with him all night. He came out of his busy night like Superman - not get the F-out-of-my-bar-man. The staff was great, drinks were tasty, and I don't like to go over to MLK much, but will just to support this venue. Thanks crew! You guys rock. I haven't been WOWed like this in a very long time. They need to be in a Portlandia episode!

How have I not reviewed this place?! Local Lounge brings a little of the gayborhood up in my neighborhood. Compete with drag shows and queeny karaoke, this loveable little bar serves up gay friendly cocktails in a swath of NoPo not usually thought of by those "in the family". So once they served me chicken strips that were a little raw in the middle, but at least 6 other times they didn't. With a friendly happy hour beer that can take you right out of the north portland MLK traffic, who can't love a little Local Lounge.

If you're looking for scene, or the latest and greatest, or the best top-notch service in the world, or some sort of fancy wine, or trendy.....stay away. If you're hard to please or picky......You don't belong here. This is not The Pearl. If you're looking for comfortable, easy, likeable, friendly, warm, welcoming....then stop in. This is a very grass roots, down to earth sort of place to spend a few hours and go home feeling good about it. I've never had attitude from the bartenders or customers. No one stares, no one cares. It's all good. I come here regularly with groups of friends for Happy Hour. I've had my birthday gig here. And I've always been happy. Love the music, the even sun shining through the front windows, the buzz of the traffic outside.

I love going to the Local Lounge. The staff is fun, the crowd is unique, plus there is a late night Subway next door for me to Hasslehoff a sandwich before a cabhome. Nice access to Planned Parenthood for those needed post-abortion cocktails. Really though, I had my birthday party here this year and everyone was very accommodating and let me get belligerent without holding it against me. I will be storming the kitchen and yelling unintelligible things about chicken strips again. They do know my name because I take the time to talk to the bartenders. Herp durp.

Great place!! Staff was super nice and accommodating without being fake. The vibe was very relaxed and then picked up as a DJ/event started. We danced and had a raging good time! Felt safe, good food, moderately priced drinks...we'll be back next weekend. What a hidden gay gem on the east side!

I really like this place. I live 3 blocks from the Local, and most everyone there is super nice and chill. The decor and food menu may leave something to be desired, but that's why it's a bar, not a restaurant. Kat and Erika-Leigh mix great drinks and Steve is getting there ;-) Overall love this place.

Oh, Local Lounge. How much do I love thee? Let me count the ways. Your bartenders are the best in town, especially always smiling Randy and his amazing arms. Kat Dyland and Keegan are the best and I've always felt welcome. The events are cool and it really is a great mix of people, gay and straight, male and female, bear daddies and drag queens alike. The food rocks too! For a gay bar it can go from laid back pub to sleazy leather bar to drag show to executive realness, often in the same night! It's fun enough to get buzzed with your mates and laid back enough to bring your mom. Only complaints are they don't have PBR on draft and there's no patio, so I'm doomed to be single until there is. Go see Randy today (but stay out of Philips chair please)

used to love going here every weekend. cheap, clean, occasional karaoke. last time i went here, we asked about the ever-raising prices and they explained, "yeah, basically these assholes that play kickball down the street would come in here and get drunk, so we had to stop the beer specials" or something to that effect. my friends and i are those assholes.

This bar reminds me of the Gay bars back home with a Portland twist. The dance parties are getting bigger and better, there drag show is incredible and the drinks are delicious and not over priced. I hope that more events start happening here. It's a plus the staff are pretty nice to look at also. Especially the door person.

Went in the other night, ordered a drink and was told they did not have it, ordered food and was told they did not have it. Was told there was a menu switch over and they may have some food, Never heard back. Had hit and miss visits to his place.
