Love the Limelight! I am biased as a neighborhood local but the proximity coupled with the chill atmosphere, solid service, good food, and great drinks make it a no brainer.

OK, I know how this sounds but I only ever find myself here if Kay's is super busy. but I really like this place. I don't go out of my way for it, but I'm not disappointed afterwards. Anyway. My favorite thing to get here is the French Dip. I mean, it's totally diner fare. And in that context, I will always get the Dip, and it's always good. Except these guys do it really well, and really consistently. Which is important. Also, they have GREAT daily drink specials. So keep that in mind if you're out on a Monday and all you need is a $2 PBR. Grab that + their truffle/parmesean fries. You're set for life.

This is a decent bar, but the stuck up crowd that hangs out here is rather annoying. Very clicky when you're there during slow business hours. The atmosphere is modest, prices are reasonable for sellwood. It's slightly divvy, but to trendy to be reckless and fun. I've taken dates here, drank a lot of beer here and been kicked out of here in the last 10 years. I like the place to an extent, but only go to the extent that it has a good location. The place used to be called the intermetso. Try cosmos across the street if you want a real friendly drinking bar.

This place is a throwback to a time before sellwood became yuppified. We love the no frills, inviting atmosphere here. The food is dimple, what you would find in a diner. It's not the highest quality, but it's appropriately priced. Good waterhole on a sunny afternoon.

Perfect Sellwood dive bar, VERY strong drinks! Dark inside, fun, friends. It's a bit loud in there but that goes along with the environment and my friends and I were still able to sit at a table and chat. Bartenders were nice, we didn't have any food so I can't speak to that. I would definitely frequent Limelight if I were a PDX resident again.

Fiiiiiiinally, a breakfast joint that has iced coffee in the summer! I'm so thankful for that!! What's with these places that only have hot coffee in hot weather?! The servers were sweet. The food came out fast but wasn't anything special ... at all.

Come here for the stuff drinks and awesome chicken wings. The wings are seriously delicious. Great service and nice artwork. Hipster but not pretentious. I'll be back for wings and the drink special.

Good happy hour! Nice sunny sidewalk seating. This place is very dog freindly. If my dogs are happy than I am too!

It's a dive bar. I dig it for late night beers and fried food. Bartenders are good. The restaurant on the other hand kinda sucks. The food is decent. The servers are nice, but completely inattentive and amazingly slow for the number of patrons in the joint. I'm glad it's in the neighborhood though.

The service at breakfast time is unmanaged. Some days great, other days horrible! The manager, Amanda, is unresponsive to feedback.

5 stars for this awesome dive bar who makes really tasty White Russian. The bar was kind of tiny, but there are some tables near the bar. The lighting is good and fun. The bartenders are awesome, and the highlight is the cheap price of their drinks. So awesome! We should all meet and hang out here sometimes :)

The bar is fine, classic dive, and clearly where they make their money- which must float the restaurant. This review is for the restaurant. Nice waitresses and good spot to hit before a movie next door, but don't expect good food. And please don't order the ribs. It's my own fault for trying them here I suppose, but it was calling. The fried artichoke hearts were ok, but isn't everything deep fried tasty? I've tried lunch before, and it was also average. I live nearby and wish they served better food, which shouldn't be that challenging, considering their prices aren't low. Most everything is $9-10, or so. If you're in a hurry, this will fill you up, but personally, I'd eat somewhere else nearby and come back for drinks after the movie.

It's okay. Some people think it's a destination, but it's just a competent neighborhood bar. It took a long time to get our drinks (and there were three people working the floor) and one of them was quite possibly the worst old fashioned made in the history of bartending. It's like they forgot to put a spout in the bitters bottle. Our server did split the check without being asked. So that was pretty cool. That would normally be worth an extra star, but the Long Island Iced Teas in carafes is such a bad idea I'm going to withhold it.

We had a good time here. My wife and friends drank a ton.I as the designated drive had one drink early and then water until we left many hours later. We ate dinner. The food was totally acceptable. Most of the drinks were enjoyed. We did get one martini that tasted like someone pissed in it. but all in all a good time was had.

This is a great little dive bar in the West Moreland area. It's dark, there drinks are cheap and incredibly strong, and the service is pretty good. I've been here three times now and two were fairly recent. The first was about 4 years ago and we just stumbled upon it. They had a long island iced tea deal the night we came. I believe it was only $4 and strong and delicious. The second time I came was during a very snowy day where my friend and I decided to bar hop midday. This was our last stop, so it's a bit fuzzy, but I remember the chicken strips and fries being really good. We were there during happy hour and the food menu for HH was right up there! And cheap prices! The third time I came was last Saturday and the waitress never left our drinks empty. It's a great spot to chill with friends and people watch or have people watch you, depending on how many drinks you have had!

Everytime we've been back, The Limelight has been extremely loud. It is a lounge, so that makes sense! The food is so-so and it's definitely not a destination stop, as JW R. pointed out! Agreed!

To be clear....if your comparing The Limelight to anything along the order of "new American pub"... Forget it! Is this a destination? I guess..if you live ...in a foreign country? And, frankly temper your expectations on food quality...this my fellow yelpers is whether you'd like to call it o...a local dive bar... The limelight is a place your grand dad would go for a beer and some cheap food to perhaps catch up with fellow locals....and fast forward to 2013 and it's exactly what it portrays itself to be. A longtime dependable local "joint" Cheap drinks and cheap food .. Very friendly and accommodating bartenders...-a word of warning...they are not craft bartenders and if you are thinking a specialty cocktail? Know your ingredients and they will mix you anything. The beer is cold with typical selection... A PBR fits in nicely A mixture of younger hipsters and salty locals....perfect So enjoy the Limelight for what it is..

Excellent breakfast here! One son had the strawberry pancakes, which were huge and delicious with sliced strawberries between every layer, my daughter stuck with the chocolate chip pancakes, and my second son had a fabulous breakfast sandwich. I had nice, crispy bacon and well-scrambled eggs with good coffee. Kids played shuffleboard while we waited for our food. Service was friendly and quick--especially great because we were running late.

I love this place for lunch. Full disclosure, I've never had any drinks here, because I always go with coworkers for work lunches. However, their food is AWESOME! And so reasonably priced for what it is, which is high quality and fresh. I highly recommend the carne asada steak salad. It's probably the best $12 salad on the face of the earth. Service is usually pretty slow in the restaurant area, but that's nothing wildly out of the ordinary for Portland--service is slow at a lot of places.

I've been wanting to try Limelight for a while, and the breakfast menu was such a pleasant surprise! I was treating a mean hangover, and the cure was definitely a Hair of the Dog mimosa and the giant stack of pancakes. Those fluffy morsels melted in my mouth - coating my devastated tummy with tasty goodness. The prices were super reasonable, and I was entranced with the face-sized breakfast burrito my friends ordered. I will definitely be going back to try some of that Salmon Benedict.

Average in most ways. Very loud. Lots of sideways-baseball-cap-wearing 23 year olds being too loud and too drunk. Most likely place in Sellwood/Moreland to see a fight. Average bar food. Service is hit and miss. Tap selection decent. Weird lighting. Low ceilings. Bathrooms could some additional deodorizing. Again...average in most ways. There are better options close by.

I've gone here for several years to the restaurant side and actually have always enjoyed the food - but I have to wonder if it's been taken over recently by new mgmt, because I had an awful breakfast this past weekend. My wife's biscuit and gravy was a rock - literally could not cut it - but the waitress insisted it was made that day. I ordered the Challah French Toast and felt it was rather bland, along with the eggs and hash browns also. A huge disappointment - time to find a new spot in West Moreland. If anybody is looking to open a good breakfast spot - several for lease spots down here right now - you'd be welcome and appreciated!

JW's account is spot on...except for one minor detail... Let's re-tell the story from my seat: Ron orders a drink. JW order a drink. Melinda's +1 orders a drink. JW interrupts the bartender by jumping up in pure joy that Melinda's plus one has just ordered the Darth Vader, some sort of Long Island+Jager concoction, and jubilantly requests a high five -- completely body blocking the server from the rest of the group. The server storms off, saying over her shoulder "When you're serious about ordering let me know." Absolutely hilarious. 1 star in JW's book. 3 stars in mine.

I was impressed with their in-house vodka infusions, they make a good strong cocktail. The waitress was frustrated that only 2 of 5 was eating, she made that clear, as the rest of us were just drinking. Unfortunately, what she didn't even give us an opportunity to say was that one in our party was underage so we were forced to sit on the restaurant side. Perhaps we ought not be punished for that either way? The food wasn't anything to rave about, standard bar fare.

My second visit to the Limelight was for happy hour, but sadly happy hour wasn't going on when we arrived. Oh well. We started out with some vodka based drinks that were nice and summery. I decided against fried food and got myself a salad instead. The Carne Asada salad ($9.75) is really good here. A nice portion of rare steak with all kinds of goodies like beans and lettuce and cheese and corn chips with a cucumber (?) salad dressing. Very tasty. Highly recommend. Nice service too.

Drinks are solid and they have a nice variety. Service is always proper in the bar. Food is good. Happy Hour is not bad. And they offer daily specials. Good local spot.

My friend and I decided to grab a quick beer here last night before catching a movie next door at the Moreland Theater. We arrived at 8 and were told by the bartender that it was happy hour all night. Well drinks and micro brews were $3.50. W e both got a Dead Guy ale which was on tap. When I took a sip I thought it tasted different...dead guy is usually so delicious. I didn't have much time to think about it there, we kind of had to chug them so we wouldn't miss the movie. It wasn't until later that night when my friend asked me "did that dead guy taste off to you?". I agreed that yes it had definitely tasted weird. My friend said he was pretty positive that the tap had been dirty and ruined the beer. GROSS!

I didn't go for the Long Island Iced Tea because, well, the last time I drank them was in college and was driving the next day from LA to SF. I had to pull over on the Grapevine and heave in the emergency lane. It's bad when you're that toxic the next day. Very strong pours, fairly reasonable prices and zero-attitude bartenders. Someone apparently deposited their paycheck into the juke box and dominated with 80s tunes. Lots of TVs for watching some team called the "Blazers" all you yeeps keep fawning over. I did not have to pull over on Alberta the next day and heave. Plus one star.

Limelight's an a-ok kind of place on a cute strip of Sellwood. All servers/bartenders I have ever encountered there are super nice, and it's a good place to meet my work peeps (geographically, that is). I have had excellent lunches there (great salads!) and always had a nice time with the after-work crowd. Went last week for a birthday thing- pleasant as always. A monumental, bronzed, bejewelled, thumbs up to LL for having shoestring fries. Basic bar fare, but I believe the veggie burger is housemade? That's always a nice touch, and love the brioche bun. It gets the job done for drinks and snacks with no hassle.

My wife likes this place better than I do. The happy hour is pretty good. My dad returned the clam chowder and in my family it is nearly unheard of to return food to the kitchen. In the area, I much prefer Oaks Bottom Public House.

I like my servers with atitude but an atitude with reason. This is a case of busy night and just trying to get by it. Our server was told to be good and fast at first until we (a group of more thn 5 people saying hi's and hello's) came. A nicer and more pleasant remark would be more appreciated. The drink I had is good and sweet. Black Opal will surely give you a good buzz.

What a nice surprise this place has been! My partner and I walked into the Limelight by chance after a screaming baby dissuaded us from taking a table in one of the other restaurants on the block. The menu is reasonably priced, the food is good, the waitstaff is friendly, and my partner says they pour a great drink. This isn't a trendy foodie place, but it's just where we want to go when we want a plate of good food and no BS.

  • Jules T.

Okay, major pet peeve: Servers and/or bartenders who place your drink in front of you by holding it by the rim. Your money-handling hands and my mouth should NOT mix. My server here did this EVERY time. Gross. For that reason alone, I won't be back. But her attitude about ordering a drink when we ordered HH tator tots was surprisingly rude. I intended to order a drink, I just wasn't sure which one yet. Geez, lady. The tator tots were nothing special. (And yes, tator tots CAN be special! Try them at Brooklyn Park Pub if you want to see what I'm talking about.) The carne asada salad I ordered was okay, but too small for the price. 3 slices of meat and less than 1/4 of an avocado, sprinkled with corn and black beans. Meh. And it should have been served in a bigger bowl so I could stir the dressing in without losing half of the iceberg lettuce. The dressing and meat were tasty, but for $9.00 they needed to add more of both. On the upside: the Black Opal was the tastiest drink I may have ever had. EVER. And strong. That's the only reason this place gets 2 stars instead of 1.

Every dive bar has got to come up for air every once again. This reviewer found the limelight basking in the sun of a dive bar that has come of age to realize that pbr in a glass, does not a business make. A solid menu, good strong drinks for fair prices, cute staff and a solid burger ( not slow bar quality but better than a mcmanins meat puck). It's a great sneak joint when yur hungover and the cure is a bloody Mary. Thumbs up!

One of my favorites! I wish I still lived close. Great service, great cheap eats. Chill atmosphere when it's quiet. Can get a little bro-y on free pool nights ...
