From the outside you're thinking, boy, I just don't know about this. Situated on the edge of what could be called the skanky (I looked it up. It really is a word) side of town, the first thing you have to do is make way. I'm thinking about how dangerous this could be during the entire trek. OK, it's really not that bad and once inside there is refuge as you take in the enormity of the place. Just inside the door you're greeted by the bar which makes it even more inviting than you initially thought. A large, wood, mirror-backed hutch contains an array of your future libations. A wonderful color scheme grabs your attention and just as you're taking that all in your eye is caught by table after table, as far as the eye can see. Alas, it is empty. Service is friendly enough but lackluster. After being shown to our table it was soon after that I was reminded of all those abandonment issues from childhood. I longed for attention and just a nod of approval. When he finally came back he was helpful and took an interest in me, making sure I was happy with my selection. I appreciated his willingness to accommodate and talk about the menu. I don't recall a visit to the table after except to refill my tea. There was no mention of the food or how we were enjoying it. Eventually, I settled for vegetarian Pad Thai and ya know? I have to say this is probably some of the best Pad Thai I've ever had. Not at all sweet but very flavorful. My request for a 2 out of 5 heat scale ended up being the perfect blend for my wimpy western taste buds. The tea was iced and green and a nice change from the black tea usually served at most places.. When we were finished with our meal, we were just done but, it took forever to get the check. Couldn't wave anybody down because there was nobody there. Check out can be problematic but OK if you're not in a hurry. Overall, this is a good pick, if you can get past the neighborhood. Not exactly the place I would have chosen but a very nice physical plant once inside. I just wouldn't do this one alone at night.

As the previous reviewer mentioned, this spot has had many various identities. The newest restaurant that has set up residence here is charming and cheerfully colored inside which makes it pleasant to be in. The plentiful streetside windows let in tons of light, too. A friend and I popped in to try out the restaurant earlier today and I was not disappointed. The Negatives: 1. It was a little spendier than I had anticipated, but truly this was not a dealbreaker. 2. There was literally no one else in the restaurant when we went, but we went around 4:15 pm. 3. The location offers very little by way of vegetarian/vegan fare. 4. I do not appreciate TVs and way too much radio pop music disturbing my meal. Some of this noise would have been drowned out by going at a time when there were more guests in the dining room. The Positives: 1. My chicken pho had ALL white meat. This is unusual for chicken pho I get anywhere, and so I was pleasantly surprised. 2. Very friendly staff. I haven't a single complaint about anything; they were kind, cheerful, and attentive. 3. Though the price of the meal was more than I had expected, my friend's $10 curry meal, for example, was a much larger portion than I anticipated. I do not feel that my pho portion was smaller than what I've gotten at numerous other locations and my $9 got me one of my first all white meat chicken pho bowls. I have to say that, for a place that advertises its special at $6.95, asking $9-$12 for standard meals is not really unreasonable. This place also earns some bonus points for being open later than your average restaurant--given its location, this should be good for business. The food itself was neither remarkable nor sub-par. I enjoyed my pho and my friend his curry. Could flavor have been more present? Yes. Could some seasoning have spruced the entire experience up? Absolutely. But I was neither dissatisfied with my meal nor the price I ultimately paid. I'm glad I gave it a shot and I hope that Lemon Grass Kitchen perfects itself and manages to do something many other businesses in the area have not--survive

Went here today for lunch and the place is completely CLOSED down! No customers and employees! Looks like it's under construction. New owners perhaps?

Went to this place after a night out with a bachelor party for a late night meal. The pho is great and the night manager, Nikki, was great at dealing with bunch of rowdy drunks. Loved it so much we went back the next night.

Outside the restaurant they have a big advertisement for $6.95 lunch special but since we were there during dinner time we didn't get to take advantage of that or see what they do offer for that price. Yet, it's pretty easy to expect that the dinner menu would be slightly more expensive than the specials just like any restaurant. I just went last weekend and their prices were okay, $8 for chicken or beef pho and then $10 and up for all the others (I do want to say that vegetarian pho could have been $7 though). I was glad to see they also offer bubble tea, but sad to see it was for $6. I think for $2 more I'd rather just get some pho. Then a couple came in just to do some shots but had something to say for it being $9 a piece; to be fair, who knows what they were ordering, but considering that bubble tea was $6 I wouldn't be surprised if the price was more than expected. On that note, they do have a full bar! I loved the decor! My friends and I were able to get in some few jokes since the place was a gentlemens club before, but still overall they made the ambiance feel right and if my friends weren't so informative, I wouldn't have ever guessed it was a club before. The service was great as well. Staff was friendly and attentive, but nowhere near pushy or uncomfortable. Service was just amazing. Yes the one odd thing about this place is that all the ingredients aren't left out such as soy sauce, plum sauce....and so on. That was weird, but we excused it knowing that it is in a not-so-fancy neighborhood that maybe bums might have taken advantage of the frebbie condiments haha. However they were quick to bring it out! It's just a little inconvenient when we don't know what half of them are called since we are so used to just blindly adding flavor with whatever is on the side. The taste of the food however was just okay. We ordered the veg. vermicelli and beef pho (two of the least expensive items on the menu) and it just didn't really , stand out. It definitely satisfied our hunger. The portion was just average, maybe slightly less than the usual XL bowl of pho we pretty much get everywhere else.

I had a nice lunch here and will be back to track them as they improve. not a fan: -price: I noticed a $6.95 price on the window but the menu had $12 pho. I said that I normally pay $6-$9 for pho with everything and was surprised to see the high price. Based on the waiter's reaction, they hear this frequently. -no condiments on table: Growing pains maybe? -fatty bbq meat: The menu really should have called out that it was fatty pig bbq instead of just saying bbq noodles. My mistake but still very tasty. -music: trashy pop music is really common in young asian restaurants but this was more like trashy US bar music and was annoying and out of context. -menu: There's a full menu and a picture menu of specials. A little more attention could go into both. The picture menu could have better descriptions and the full menu.... needs work. fan! -location: I like seeing a place here and it seems like it could do really well. -food: My dry bbq noodle (bun?) dish was tasty and at $6.95, I'll be back. -interior: The look and feel of the place was great. Super nice for lower Burnside. tip: -Ask for the specials menu as I noticed they did not hand it out with the regular high priced menu.

This spot has been a Cuban restaurant, a sports bar, and a strip club, and now it's a Vietnamese/Chinese/Thai restaurant. The inside is cheerfully decorated and remodeled. I went here today with 2 friends from work, as we're all pho fiends and were anxious to try out the new place. First off, the prices: WOW. I have been spoiled by Pho TNT's great prices ($5 at lunch), I guess, because I was shocked to see a restaurant on skid row asking $9 for pho ga (chicken soup). That's what Silk in The Pearl charges! I ordered it anyway, as I was committed to giving this place a shot. One friend got the pho tai or nam, same price. The other one ordered off their lunch menu, which features pad thai, chow mein, bun, etc., for $6.95. He got the pork bun with a roll. The waitress was very nice and charming. She told me the chicken was all white breast meat. Not quite. There were lots of gristly, brown cuts in there and a couple of globs of what I assume were fat. The broth was thin, but not bad; No complexity to speak of. The beef pho was also unremarkable. Both bowls were very small, too. The bun w/ roll was very tasty and the pork had a good flavor, but the meat had LOTS of gristle. So, we ended having lots of animal carcass left on our saucers. The friend who ordered bun said he'd give them time to get their routine down & try again. I will be going back to Pho TNT.
