Best place for kid-friendly "amexican" American/Mexican food! I love this place when I get the Pbj smoothie and burrito and maybe some chips. So GOOD!!!!!!!

Love the food and the beer selection. Really, they know what they are doing with the healthy, unique, and creative menu. If you go out to eat to be waited on and have interaction with the people who serve your food, then that part isn't what they do at Laughing Planet. I give the food 5 stars.

Laughing Planet is a great healthy option for a quick meal. The bowls are really good and they use great ingredients.

This is my favorite place to come once the weather warms up like today. I like to come before or after Gabriel Park with my dog, and I can easily hook him up around the fence outside. They have amazing fresh food, are veg and vegan friendly, and they seem to carry a stout year round, which is awesome because I drink it year round!

Laughing Planet is my go-to for quick, delicious and healthy meals. I love all the bowls on their basic menu and also the creative season dishes! There is something new every time I go and it never disappoints. Depending on the time of day, the wait for dinning in is occasionally longer than expected because a lot of folks call in and order to go, usually for dinner. It may not look busy in the restaurant but it will take a good 20-30 minutes to get a full order out to your table. That is not say the the staff is not courteous and genuinely nice when it comes to handling multiple orders, they keep their cool. During the summer, I love sitting outside on the patio and then going next door to the Froyo place for dessert. If you don't feel like frozen yogurt, LP's pies and smoothies are bomb. You have to try them at least once.

To the pretty little feminine lady with the shaved head that so courteously helped me decide which bowl to have: You were right, the Thai bowl was the way to go. Tell those boys in the kitchen it made my mouth, eyes and stomach so pleased. Y'all will be seeing more of me.

Tonight's goal of healthy fresh, fast food to go from Laughing Planet was a HUGE fail. We still love Laughing Planet, but they need to handle their phone lines better. Tonight I spent 20 minutes attempting to call in my order. Was put on hold 3 times only to be hung up on. Each time the line was answered "Laughing Planet, can you hold please". I never got a chance to say Noooooo, I've already been on hold and hung up on multiple times, can I just please put my order in. I finally gave up, and drove down. I spoke with the manager about the issue and he said the phone lines are slammed and to use the web site for orders instead. No apology offered, which kind of irked me. I've had issues with waiting 3-7 minutes on hold in the past, seemingly forgotten. I call back in to get straight through to place my order. I will try emailing in my order in the future, but I still think the phone lines need to managed better. It's going to be over an hour since I began attempting to call my order in, until I finally get my food and get home. Hungry, tired and annoyed(grumpy).

Bad food. Bad customer service. Usually Laughing Planet is a top pick for a quick lunch for me, They really missed the mark today. $3.50 upgrade got me a piece of fatty beef smaller than one bite. the beans were watery and the burrito was generally inedible. Desk person handled the phone call I made poorly. Didn't apologize, did't offer to cook a new item. If you can't give basic customer service without getting a manager, then probably a good idea to get trained on this.

Really tasty food. Kids love dinosaurs. Wonderfully healthy and tasty dishes. My two suggestions: Bathroom never that clean and never smells fresh. Would love a very fresh bathroom alongside this very fresh and local food. Veggie Grill for example is so clean and fresh. It can be done! There's a line in menu asking parents to make their kids behave -- we're trying! I don't think the message helps and it alienates some families. Thank you for the dinosaurs which help quite a bit for happy dining.

This particular laughing planet is my favorite. It's really great if you live in the general area and the southwest community center is right across the street. As for the service, you are going to experience the friendliest people. If there is ever a problem, they are very quick to fix it. I haven't experienced this at all locations. So the food, it's so fresh and creative. I love getting the special of the week in a bowl. Some of the ingredients I am not always familiar with and it always gives me good ideas of things to make at home. So good! The Thai bowl and the bubba burrito are some of my favorites. You also, must, must, MUST get a chocolate chip oatmeal cookie-you will have tasted pure heaven at this point and never will look back!

Service sucks here. Staff is inattentive and zombie like in their duties. Food is overpriced and below average.

Came here after a doctor appt next door. So convenient when you're starving after getting poked and stared at for 30 mins. Ambiance is fun - there were dinosaurs everywhere which made my 2yr old son nearly faint from joy. Workers were really nice and patient as we perused the menu. Everything looked delish. Mommy got the Thai bowl. It was super tasty and surprisingly filling considering it was tofu and veggies. I couldn't even finish it. Daddy got the holy moley burrito, which was really yummy too. Tasty and not too saucey. Little Zach got a cheese quesadilla. Guess it's hard to screw that one up. Overall really good experience. The dinos are a nice touch for the kids but I'm always worried about how often they're cleaned, luckily I always have a Dino/car stash in my bag. (I later saw some kids come in and wrangle them all. And some ended up in their mouths. Ew.) I want to explore more of the menu, but it's a bummer it's far from the house and kinda tucked away. We'll be back after our next doc visit for sure.

Wow. First timer here and my taste buds are thanking Yelp for helping me find this place. I pulled up the app and searched for a lunch spot and this came up as #1 and was exactly what I was thinking - something quick and better yet healthy. I had the Bollywood bowl and was surprised when I picked it up and felt how heavy the damn thing was. It was absolutely packed with veggies in a mildly spicy coconut sauce on a perfectly cooked bed of rice. I wouldn't hesitate to try any of the other options after just one trip. Was surprised to see how thorough the beer list was as well - and on tap?! GTFO. Anyways, this place is perfectly for just about everyone from yoga pants wearing basic betches to meatheads just leaving the gym and craving some brotein to just about anyone else who likes deliciously fresh and healthy food. You can order ahead and online as well. Party on LP!

I like coming here for the organic food and because they have a patio where our dog can join us. The food is ok, nothing exceptional but still I find we come by a lot as it's affordable and convenient, nice staff too.

This used to be our "go-to" place, but it has steadily gone down hill. We loved the staff, service and food quality (better than most Laughing Planets), but for whatever reason, the staff has changed, the service has gone way down and the food quality is unpredictable. Sadly, we stopped going here...but I hope they get their act back together soon because we did love it!! Edit 1: One of the staff members at LP contacted me upon reading this and assured me that they are working to improve the restaurant, so I added another star. I appreciate that they care enough to set things write and I definitely will try it again!! Edit 2 (9/24): Due to my complaint, I was sent free vouchers to try the restaurant again. Unfortunately, I left them at home when I went back. The burritos were still unbalanced, although unlike in the past, they contained all of the ingredients listed on the menu--so points there! The employees still seemed unhappy and stressed, which made me sad. (We miss the happy and friendly staff from before). But I need to say, we enjoy the "family atmosphere" and we don't have children, ourselves. It has never been too loud or out of control as others have noted. Overall, I do think they are doing their best to make improvements and I love that they follow-up because they care about making their customers happy. Our experience was A-OK, so I'm going to keep it at the A-OK three stars! :-) FINAL EDIT: (10/23): I finally used one of our free meal vouchers last night and I can honestly say that we will never be eating at this restaurant again. We ordered our food and sat down next to a couple who had been waiting for 45-minutes for their two burritos. They were not happy. We began worrying because we only had an hour to eat and get to another engagement. When the Laughing Planet employee brought over the other couple's food, the order was completely wrong (they ordered two burritos, and were brought a quesadilla and a salad). When they complained, the employee said that their order was lost...they just got a refund and left...which is exactly what we should have done. We also waited 45-minutes for our food. (No, It was not busy. Maybe 3 or 4 families in the whole restaurant and no food was leaving the kitchen.) We were worried because we didn't even have the time to eat our meals (we were actually late to our engagement). Anyway...AGAIN after multiple complaints about not receiving the right meal or ingredients in the meal, we received meals that did not match the description. My Veggies Gone Wild bowl did not contain any Morrocan spiced green beans, it had way too many black beans and it was watery. Not saucy (it didn't have much flavor, actually), but really really watery. Also, I ordered tofu on top (extra $2.50 and literally got 5 small squares). My husband's burrito was not balanced either. The experience was so bad that we won't even be using our second free meal voucher. While I respect that the management cares enough to address complaints with free vouchers, as well as take the time to listen to customer complaints, the dining experience was worse than ever before. This was our favorite restaurant, but we will now start making the trip into the city if we want some delicious Laughing Planet food. Two stars because this establishment used to be great, otherwise they would have just received one... :-(

I would eat here every day if I could. No matter which Laughing Planet I go to, they're all consistently good! Huge burritos that fill you up right. I always get the mondo size burrito...way more then you really need. I've tried about 4-5 different kinds, & none of them disappoint. Fresh ingredients all the time. *note - (if you're not a fan of cilantro, ask them to hold off)

Order the Amazing Grace Quesadilla! Why? Because... It. Is. Amazing. I've always ordered to go as I work within the area, so I've never had the opportunity to hang out in the joint. However, the staff is always friendly and the food is always ready to order. Never a lull moment, constant customer base throughout the day - from locals to distant guests. Definitely worth a try if you've never been! Might I add, the coffee is local and strong... *hint, hint* The only downside about LPC is they charge you an arm and a leg for guacamole and sour cream on the side... It's nearly 1/2 the cost of the burrito bowl or quesadilla! Great selection of food though, but highly recommend the Amazing Grace Quesadilla or the Southwest Green Chili burrito as a bowl.

Burritos better than chipotle: check Smoothies better than jamba juice: check Really super nice employees: check Really, what else do you want? What, you say, you want toy dinosaurs on almost every table? They have that too! And beer, even. And it's across the street from Gabriel Park, so you can get your food to go and have a picnic. The only downside of this restaurant is that they share a parking lot with the OHSU clinic, so sometimes it's hard to find a parking spot.

  • Whitney F.

Laughing Planet is our go-to place, so I'm glad that there seems to be one no matter what neighborhood I'm in! This is the closest one to me, and the staff are very friendly and the service is good--even when it's super busy, we didn't wait too long. This one gets super packed with families, so we try to go outside regular dinner hours. The ingredients are so fresh and I appreciate the variety of vegan, veg, and meaty options. Whether we go for a fast dinner, a warm and comforting meal, or a spicy new burrito, we are pleasantly satisfied. It's also right across from a park, so it makes for an easy picnic. Food: Tasty, interesting, fresh Service: Friendly and prompt Drinks: Nice beer selection, plenty of yummy non-A drinks (try the lemonade)

As my family and I sat at this location and had dinner I couldn't help but notice the large amount if children that occupied the restaurant. Something else that could not help but noticed is the "I'm better than everybody because I take my kid to eat at a vegan restaurant" attitude that the parents had. Don't get me wrong the amounts of children didn't bother me it was the egos that followed. Now you will notice I gave this place 4 stars and that is all due to the staff. The food was just ok, but it was extremely refreshing to to walk in to a trendy Portland food establishment and not get the hipster attitude with it. Not only were they efficient, helpful, and hardworking but they did it all with a smile on their face. It was so impressive that I felt the need to post...

Love this place. Nice outdoor seating in back in the summer. Great food and beer and hot sauce. They don't seem to mind a large knitting club taking up a lot of seats for a long time. That is encouraging for when I start a club where we sit around and b.s. for hours.

I'm so happy to have a LP near my house! It seems like all the Laughing Planet restaurants have a different feel. This one tends to be the most family oriented of the ones I've been to. It is a Mexican/southwest, vegetarian-leaning, casual food place... Burritos, bowls, and that sort of thing. All the food is good. Seriously. Although casual, the dishes are creative, healthy, delicious, and they are all created with a conscience. There are weekly special dishes and soups. Mmm.. It's all wonderful. However, the Che Guevara burrito is so good that I have difficulty ordering anything else! There are a half-dozen good beers on rotating taps. Also, smoothies and juices. This location has nice outdoor seating out front and back and a big open indoor space. Check it out! I think I'll head over there right now.

This is the first LPC I've been to, so I can't compare it to the others, but I'm digging this one very much. Came here for lunch (BBQ Chicken quesadilla) and to hang out a bit and get out of the house to work a bit (since I telecommute). Here's 5 reasons why this cafe gets 5 stars from me: 1. Healthy, tasty, reasonably-priced food. 2. The wireless is free, password-less, and FAST. 3. Nice patio in back 4. Great tap list (Ninkasi Tricerahops IPA? Most beer bars in town don't have this!) They also sell growlers! 5. Easy parking for cars and bikes. Bonus stars: Walkable from my new house! Self-serve water! Lots of hot sauces available to spice up your grub! So excited to find this cafe in my new 'hood.

Yummy! A great little chain with food that's packed with flavor. Hubby got a Paleobowl and loved it. I got a Cuban style bowl and was also impressed by their seasonings. All food seemed organic, local, and/or vegan, etc. The chocolate hazelnut hempseed cookie was yummy! Our only regret is that we can't return to try more since apparently this chain have not spread beyond Oregon :(

This has become one of our regular spots for take out and dining there when we feel like getting out of the house but not venturing far. We love their soups! It's an easy way to get vegetables and so delicious! The split pea, tomato chipotle, butternut squash are so yummy and haven't been disappointed by their rotating selection thus far. The salads are quite good as well and I'm partial to the Sacagawea salad with its pickled red onions, feta cheese, and hazelnuts. After eating relatively healthy :), I always end my meal with a double chocolate chip cookie which never disappoints.. One of my favorite chocolate chip cookies and the quality is always consistent with its moist and chewy texture (shocked that it's vegan).

Portland people love their Laughing Planet. I, however, was unimpressed. The food was decent, at best. Tried the Bollywood bowl and Spanky's Bowl, both were bland. Sort of reminded me of cafeteria food. Also, the Last Mango in Paris Smoothie had way too much turmeric that it overpowered it. Pretty sure you can find flavorful healthy food elsewhere.

My favorite spot for lunch! My favorites are the PB&J smoothie and the Bubba with tempeh instead of chicken. The soylent green bowl is delicious as well. For the vegetarians- you can swap tempeh or tofu for any meat item on the menu. It is a fun and casual spot for lunch. The owner also owns a store that sells action figures and misc. items. which makes up part of the decor. Great fun and great food!!

This is one of my two go-to lunch spots during the work week. That is, when I do eat out. I will admit that I don't make it here as much as I would like since it is quite a bit of a drive from my office in Tigard. That's not their fault. Really it's a compliment that I'm willing to go a little further for some good food. This place is what I lovingly refer to as "hippie fast food." The food is quick, inexpensive and really tasty. Their menu is full of items such as burritos, bowls, soups, salads, smoothies, juice and even beer on tap! This particular location even has root beer on tap! They try to make sure that everything is made from quality ingredients and sustainable sources. I typically order their bowls, although I have on occasion asked for a burrito....just without the tortilla and served in a bowl. They are always accommodating. On this visit I ordered up their steamed veggies, rice and beans with some tempeh added in and then topped off with green salsa. I always walk in and order my food to go. That way I can sip on a Reed's Ginger Brew and read an issue of the Willamette Weekly or Portland Mercury while I wait. Another thing, if you 'like' them on Facebook they post their food and beer specials that cannot be found on their regular menu.

I've reviewed other Laughing Planet locations before and this one is no different. The food is pretty standard from location to location so I don't have anything earth shattering to report about the food. I love the Soylent Green bowl though. It's a convenient place to stop when I am working in SW Portland. Just beware that this location is always overloaded with moms and preschoolers. I'm not sure why this is the primary demographic at this Laughing Planet as I'm not too familiar with the area.

When it comes to food, there are two words that can put stars in my eyes: vegan and cookies. Well the planets were aligned when my friend and I landed at the SW Laughing Planet. Not that the yummy bigger-than-Jupiter burritos and good organic beer weren't enough, but come on, vegan cookies, for heaven's sake; in fact this clean and friendly Laughing Planet offers a whole array of fresh, made-on-site, vegan goodies that are out of this world. So if you think vegan is only for aliens, go try the cookie of your choice and prepare for blast off into a new world sans milk and eggs. P.S. honk if you love Uranus :-)

I wrote a pretty critical 2 star review a while ago, but the staff responded by asking me some questions about my bad experience, which I thought was cool. Lately, I have been back several times and my favorite burrito is back to delicious. In fact, I'm getting kind of hungry for some spicy, mole burrito. . . .

A dream of healthy food. Inexpensive and mostly local food that tastes great and is good for you. The staff is always friendly and the atmosphere is very chill and fun. A definite must go. I love this location because it is close, and the patio is beautiful when the weather is nice.

I got a quesadilla, it wasn't anything special at all. The PB and J smoothie was pretty good though. I think that I will give this place another chance but I have to be honest that I just was not that impressed the first time around. If they offered vegan brownies i would totally have granted a fourth star though because those are the best vegan dessert ;)

Quick summary: Casually served and delicious food, great service, and fun decor at reasonable prices. We wandered in here on a recent rainy weekend- service was quick and cheerful, with menu selections that were reasonably priced and appealing to non-vegetablinarian people such as myself. Since it was raining, I can't speak for the outside seating, but the accommodations are comfy and practical on the interior. Well, as practical as it can be if you're sharing your table with a plastic dinosaur. I'm not sure I'd call the cuisine "Mexican" or "Central American", but most of the entrees on the menu involved some sort of tortilla. The unwashed cretins and I shared bits of our meals with each other- all of them were good, but the grilled vegetable burrito was especially good. I'm looking forward to getting lost in this section of Portland sometime again soon so I have an excuse to eat here again.

Woefully understaffed. Had to wait in line 10 minutes for a pickup order, so it was cold when I finally got it. Great plan for a restaurant, bad execution. And the food is just OK.

Yum! My all time favorite go to place for fast, cheap weeknight meal. All local and natural ingredients and really healthy options including tofu, tempeh, loads of fresh veggies and naturalchicken. Dining that serves my social, health, and finacial conscience all in one. They always have a special burrito of the day that features whatever is in season. Who knew beets and sweet potatoes would taste so good in a burrito. Also, one of the few places that substitutes with brown rice and whole wheat tortillas. They also have awesome smoothies and delicious fresh baked cookies and growlers to go! The location is a little strange as it is in a commercial strip occupied by some doctor's offices, a dry cleaners, and some other small businesses that don't get too much traffic. However, it is a across from Gabriel Park dog park and Community Center, so the summer is definitely busy. I can walk there from my house all year long so it works out great for me! Looking forward to hitting their patio again this summer.

  • Mike F.

The food is good but I would avoid going when busy. Waited 45 min before checking with staff, turns out they lost our order. Would of checked sooner but didn't want to wait in line again (line was almost out the door). Staff was apologetic and gave me a free beer so i cant complain too much. My recommendation is to order ahead for pick up and avoid Wed nights, it's pretty crazy.

One of my favorite places to get a quick bite when I'm on my way to rehearsal, Laughing Planet provides fast, warm food that is unique and vegetable heavy. I really love the Cuban bowl with rice, beans, and plantains. The vegetarian burrito and the chicken & cheese burrito is great as well. The prices are very reasonable. Oh, and the desserts are well worth it. I'm working my way through their assortment of cookies and brownies and have yet to be disappointed by any of them.

My husband and I each had a very bland burrito. It really didn't taste like much other than the large chunks of celery. Celery in a burrito is just wrong to me. There was supposed to be a peanut sauce, but whatever they gave us was definitely coconut based and poorly seasoned. It makes me miss our old burrito spot in Atlanta. Thumbs down.

Interesting place. After a strange little St. Patrick's Day Party for kids at the SW Community Center, my three year old and I walked back across the street to the shopping center where you can park on Weekends and after 5:00 PM. "Do you think we could try to have lunch at that place we went once but we couldn't because there were too many people?" Sniff. She's growing up so fast. I said sure and we walked into Laughing Planet and there were plenty of empty tables and seats, so we sat down in proximity to loads of rubber dinosaurs and other animals and planned our meal. Nacho Momma, Mini-Quesadilla, Roasted Red Pepper and Corn soup, Banana Colada The soup was excellent, and came with a sliver of very tasty focaccia bread that had a hint of rosemary. I added a tiny dash of salt and drop of hot sauce (they have loads, about 10 different types available). The nachos were uninspired, but good for sharing with a picky kid. The quesadilla was a perfect kid size, but I was a bit surprised that LP didn't throw in a couple of grapes or an apple slice or two on the platter. The staff divided the Banana Colada up into two glasses, with my daughter's coming with a lid, which helped hold the straw and was a very nice touch. Which is why, as I was bussing our table as the signs requested, and I didn't ask for our tip back (you order at the counter and there was a tip line). Next time we visit, I think we'll come for drinks and soup. And see if we can find that rubber porcupine again. I kind of liked that guy.

laughing planet is a hippie corporation - oxymoron? it's a chain and this particular location is right across from Gabriel Park - this place is hugeeee. the food here is decently priced between $5-6 on average and they serve smoothies, premium drinks and beer as well.. i kind of feel awkward giving 5 stars to a place thats supposed to be vegetarian and organic (i like meat)! but they also allow you to get some "well treated" chicken for a lil extra. the food tastes great and it's a good value. their cookies and smoothies are great as well. spanky's bowl is delicious and their bbq chicken is yumm. haven't tried most things.. but i look forward to it..

I am a Laughing Planet freak! I love Laughing Planet on NW 21st, and I would always stop by and get a burrito whenever I was in the neighborhood working. When I saw them put up the Laughing Planet coming soon sign I freaked out! This location in SW Portland is a great one for the surrounding neighborhoods. It occupies the former space of Peanut Butter and Ellie's, right across from the Southwest Portland Community Center and Gabriel Park, it's just a few minutes from the major arterials in the area. Obviously, the food is great. It's the same menu as all the other Laughing Planets; burritos, bowls, and other fresh mexican inspired items. My personal favorites are the Black Bean and Spinach Burrito with chicken or tofu, and the Spanky's bowl is a lovely treat. They also have an excellent veggie chili and a rotation of weekly soups served with either tortilla chips or focaccia. The actual space however, is probably the best feature to this Laughing Planet. The dining room is huge. Lots of booths and free-standing tables to sit at, as well as a little juice bar. Then there is outdoor seating. Now, it's not as in-use now with the winter months swinging in to gear, but in the summer there is a large tented area out back with numerous picnic style tables of varying sizes to sit at. There are also about 5 or 6 picnic tables out front. It's a great place to get fresh, healthy food, it's a great place to take kids, and it's just flat-out a great place to have in the neighborhood.

This location is kind of out-of-the-way in regards to the rest of busy Portland, but for those living in SW, it's a nice thing to have around. Not too far from Multnomah Village, either. The space was formally Peanut Butter and Ellie's, and the remnants of it seem to be the large unisex bathrooms, but this review is of the food. I can't say I eat a lot of veggies, so eating a vegetarian burrito (it may have been vegan!) was unusual for me. Not really. I've had vegan burritos before, and this one was good. It was the special of the day so who knows when they'll have it again? It was a Jamaican jerk sauce-based burrito and was appropriately spicy. A bit too spicy for me, but never the less a healthier alternative to whatever I can come up with in the kitchen.

I've never been so happy to find a place for both proximity and quality. My friends happen to live right down the street from here and we ended up there one afternoon for lunch. Very quirky. Lots of fun art and vibrant colors and spacious seating. The beer is decent along with the coffee. I like to warm up with a real mug and sit to vegetate with my laptop. The burritos are a must have and I do suggest you follow the directions for eating them on the table, especially if you end up with any kind of black bean in it. Peel the foil as needed, you remove all the foil and prepare to either be inundated with black bean juice or finish with a fork. Prices are reasonable and the amount you get will fill the most gluttonous person within reason. They also have tons of fun sauces in a little bar you can take to your table with you. Take advantage of the wifi or if its nice out the outside setting is perfect and much larger than you could have imagined. Yeah i love big bloody red slabs of meat too but for a vegan place the pretension is low and the service high.

Good, solid, sometimes delicious, sometimes not. I like that they try different things with the burrito of the week, it can be good, it can be something else. The staff is great, the restaurant is spacious and clean, but the food isn't anything special. Everything else about this place is five stars though. If it wasn't so close to my house I doubt I would ever go there, but I would say give it a try.

This place is a great neighborhood restaurant that makes yummy burritos and bowls! I love the cheesy, delicious Spanky's Bowl and the Southwestern Green Chili Burrito. The staff is laid back and offer great menu suggestions like the Hole Mole Burrito with tempeh. The price is great for the portions and always tasty!

This one has lots of children at times, so enjoy/beware! People that eat here tend to have well behaved children. There's always the back patio area, it's usually very secluded. Oh yeah, the food is excellent!

Imagine all your senses are gone. No sight, no smell, no taste, everything. Then you decide to eat at Laughing Planet. Tasteless and flavorless. I booked a one-way ticket to Bland-ville. Go to ANY burrito cart in Portland and you'll be upgrading from this place. Just because something is healthy doesn't mean it has to be tasteless. Shame on you Laughing Planet. You give burritos a bad name.

Holy Mole burrito with tofu....holy moly good! Chips were nothing special, but the tomatillo green salsa was pretty tasty. Cookies were big and wonderful. Great for families.

I Love this place! I've tried both their locations and have enjoyed both my meals. I appreciate the variety of flavors and the use of fresh local produce. They also serve specials using seasonal produce, which are really tasty. I'm glad to support a place where I can eat healthy tasty food.

Every trip to PDX includes a stop here. The last visit was over the holiday weekend with beer snob G, buds E2 and their happy go lucky sidekicks. We all had delicious tasting lunches that included burritos, veggie bowls and quesadillas; we never have any complaints and the food is always fresh and consistent. G sampled a few local beers which he really enjoyed and went as far as saying that he could tell LPC respects the lines; this was fresh beer and he knows beer. The staff is friendly and accommodating. Great spot for healthy and budget friendly eats. A neighborhood gem.

Laughing Planet is still good, but I think the food/service has suffered a bit since they changed owners. They got rid of their awesome black bean dip and they replaced their Thai-peanut sauce with a lemongrass sauce that I don't care for.

We just ate here for the first time. What a find! This is our kind of food - full gluten-free menu for my wife, numerous vegetarian options for our son, "clean", good-sized portions at very reasonable pricing for us all. Relaxed atmosphere too. Plan on this being one of our main go-to places.

Since discovering Laughing Planet Cafe over on Mississippi Ave, I was thrilled to realize that I had one in my own "back yard"!! The folks here are friendly and helpful... even if they didn't keep the Expresso Porter that I found sooo delicious! (AND helpful to my studying!) I am quite impressed with the consistency, the freshness, and the downright delicious goodness of the food. I do try to break away from my favorite steamed Vegies, Beans and Rice... and have yet to have anything that disappointed! But boy-oh-boy, if I stay away too long, I do get a powerful craving for my Veggies Beans & Rice! This place is also great for working since the wifi is free and, as Melissa pointed out, FAST. Very satisfying!! Well... now, I haven't been here in a week or more so I know what I'm doing for lunch!!

I really enjoyed their soylent green bowl. After spending a very hot day at Mt Hood, I wanted to eat light food (fruits and vegetables) and the soylent green bowl fit the bill (it had chard, broccoli, shiitake, tempeh, quinoa, barley and a shiitake sauce), though I think it's hilarious because the if you've seen the movie "Soylent Green", you'd know that it stands for "soy-lentil" and there were no lentils in the dish (just soy) and more famously, that soylent green IS (made out of) PEOPLE which just cracks me up because it's listed as a vegan dish. It was the perfect hot weather dinner because I wasn't in the mood for something heavy or greasy. Their banana colada smoothie was pretty good too.

Been eating here lately cause its right by the vet, and healthy. I have had some amazing burritos here (vietnamese, southwestern chili, one with edamame) and some just ok ones (southern). They have good beers on tap, the place is clean, staff is generally friendly, outside eating, etc. I will be back often so that my gut doesnt get so big from eating less healthy food.

i had never heard of this place before coming in. some friends brought me here while i was in from out of town and i am so glad they did. there were so many vegetarian options on the menu that it took me close to ten minutes to decide what i wanted. i'd had a burrito for lunch that day, so i decided on the grilled veggie quesadilla with tofu. hot damn was it delectable. freshly grilled veggies with cilantro pesto, pico de gallo, and tillamook jack cheese. dip that in some habanero salsa and put some sri racha on that and you've got yourself a lifetime customer. the beer and hot sauce selection is pretty rad, too. the ninkasi tricerahops is a bold, hoppy IPA which i had never heard of but will look for down in CA, and they have a shelf full of tons of different hot sauces. i only visited this location, but when i go back to portland i will definitely want to visit a laughing planet cafe.

I love all Laughing Planet locations and food! This one is the closest to me and easiest parking situation. The people are super nice. Free WiFi. Clean. Patio in back. All the goods!

Great place to eat! I am always on the lookout for yummy veggie food. My husband could still have chicken and beer. My son loved playing with the dinosaurs on the table. Service was a bit slow, but friendly. Next time I am back down this way I will stop in again.

Our family loves this place and I was so happy to see this new location in SW Portland. Even though we frequented the NW location a lot, the SW location was wonderful for us because our daughter has some sensory issues and sometimes the NW location got a little noisy. This location (in the old Peanut Butter and Ellie's spot) has plenty of parking, a great indoor/outdoor space, and lots of room for kids! The food, like the NW location, emphasizes a lot of fresh ingredients. Our kids usually opt for rice bowls and quesadillas and wash everything down with a shared smoothie (made from fresh fruits). There is almost always a dairy-free alternative, which is great, since my son is allergic to dairy. The kids always finish their food and have enough rubber dinos and animals to play with while we finish a brew (great selection of local beer!) and our burritos. I'm a big fan of their rice bowls too...the chicken is always done well and the tempeh is very tasty! The desserts are great because they are cheap and tasty - cookies and usually a pie choice. I like how they have separated the nut-containing cookies from the non-nut ones, since many kids have nut allergies. Self-serve makes it easy to settle the crew in while you order. I don't mind getting my own utensils, water, and napkins if it helps the food come out faster, so that's a big plus in my book! :) The staff is very accommodating and will make substitutions without issue. And they are *smart*! Both the NW and SW location have servers and cashiers that know how to take orders and serve with a smile. Thanks guys!

Veggie Quesidilla with cilantro pesto, yes!!!! The food here is inexpensive, tasty, and they serve good beers! So glad Laughing Planet has come to SW! Yah. This is my go to place for cheap take out. Love it.

Extremely friendly staff. Lots of options for vegetarian and/or gluten free. I had the vegetarian chilli and was extremely pleased with the flavor of this thick, bean-filled entree. And when I asked for cheddar cheese to top it off, they gave me a cute little ramakin full, free of charge. Oh yeah, plus there's a dinosaur on every table. And who doesn't want to eat lunch with a t-rex looking on.

Best Feature: They can substitute vegan cheeses and tempeh or tofu for the meat in any dish, so nothing is off-limits for veg peeps. You can also sub more kale in place of the rice (in the bowls) if you do the paelo thing, or if you're just not into a heaping amount of rice. Overall, they can substitute and swap virtually anything, and that is fantastic. Worst Feature: Lots and lots of messy, loud kids. We learned quickly to simply get our food to go. I don't mind it much, but my handsome date (hubs) was annoyed one too many times to sit-in ever again. Tables cannot be bussed quickly enough because of the constant kid-pocalypse messes, so it can be hard to find a clean table, and you always wonder about the germy state of the plastic dinosaurs. The food is really good, their specials are always tasty. My favorite bowls are the Thai Bowl, or the Soylent Green. Their quesadillas and burritos are mouthwatering too, if you're not feeling like being a super healthy kale-head. The Soylent Green is what turned me on to steamed kale, so I am grateful to LP for that. Side note: it's clear that some of the employees are driven insane by the kid factor. I'll never forget the look on the face of this one cashier - it was like she was dead inside -- vacant, staring eyes, no expression, looked past us as we ordered. She actually didn't even say anything to us. It still makes me laugh!

Since my previous post, Laughing Planet has constructed a barrier of booths that is supposed to keep the out-of-control children somewhat contained. When I first heard they were constructing such a barrier to address this issue, I was hoping they were building an eat/play area in one of the corners that actually contained the screaming/running children. Instead, the only part of the restaurant that is safe from these menaces are the booths on the back walls. For some reason they constructed this kids' zone so that it is open to the rest of the cafe. So while I do appreciate that some effort has been made on their part to address the problem, I still had kids whizzing by and bumping into me while I was waiting in line in the entry area. I'm glad to see I'm not the only reviewer who feels this way. I will still only take my order to-go at this location.

Food was ok, I got the grilled veggie quesadilla with chimichurri, and it wasn't my favorite flavor profile (a bit too vinegary) but the veggies were cooked perfectly, good and crunchy but not raw. They had 2 salsas, a spicy red and a mild green, the red is sweet and smoky and the green is tart. I didn't like either of those so I went with the tried and true tapatio. My companion had the bubba burrito which he enjoyed. For the price, I will definitely be getting take out from here. Don't get me wrong, I like kids, but 30 screaming children on a hot hot day was not at all an enjoyable atmosphere.

My family loves this kid friendly establishment. Paleo, Vegan, Gluten free and dairy free friendly. One of my favorite parts is the beef is grass fed and the chicken is free range. Very fresh and great quality. Lots of healthy choices.

This place is very family friendly and VERY portland. The food is great but I don't like ginger in my salsa so I use my salsa from home. Their smoothies are awesome! I always go home feeling like I ate something really good for me and I feel great. I highly recommend.

Yum! Love all they've got on the menu, and I'm a huge fan of their Caesar salad. I've tried a few things, and every time I am pleased. Their menu is a little pretentious, I do get that its important for people to know about what food they're eating - but a simple declaration at the front of the menu instead of long winded explanation would be the way to go. Definitely going back!

It's somewhere between 3 and 4 stars. If I had young children, I would give 4 stars, because they are able to run around with impunity. I don't mind being interrupted 6 times during my meal by a 2 year old staring me in the eyes, but the tables here probably have a high concentration of common-cold viruses, so maybe beware of this. The food is average, but cheap enough that it doesn't matter. The bean and cheese burrito had a high bean:rice ratio, which was appreciated, and I liked the cilantro, but it was nothing extraordinary. The do-it-yourself bussing is fine, except that they expect you to sort out everything by yourself. If this is the case, I expect them to tip me $1 instead of vice versa. Since it's close enough to my laundromat, and open pretty late on Sundays, and there's the yogurt place next door, I will probably be back for more.

Hell. Yes. The Che Guevara will forever be my ultimate fantasy burrito/bowl crush. Veggies Gone Wild comes in second for me and I also am crazy about the East Meets West Salad. They're all fab vegan options.

I'll give them 2 stars for their history. Last nights hour wait for three people (as well as other tables) with similar experiences, was a poor excuse for service. Sure the manager was nice, and related that 60% of their business was take out, but I don't think that really explains or solves the in-store dining experience, which was really quite sad. S-L-O-W food might be intentionally good, but not what you expect from a slightly above fast food experience. We finally asked for our money back, though I wanted my hour back also. Pick up the service, or all your customers will be fleeing for better venues.

So delicious! Had a wonderful lunch here this week! Fun to have healthier options in the area. The Jamaican Burrito is delicious, filled with black beans, jimica and sweet potato and jerk spices! The new Korean BBQ bowl is also super flavorful. This location isn't super exciting, it's in a strip mall but still has some nice picnic benches outside. The blended berry lemonade is also pretty tasty. Would definitely go back.

I liked it here, we had a good thai peanut veggie bowl and a burrito that had sweet potato, plantains & BBQ sauce. Both were very good. I like the location because there is not a lot down here but it was close to where we were at the time. I very much enjoyed out visit.

I am a very regular customer. Although I love the food, the portion sizes are unreliable and I have found some of the employees a bit lacking in the learning/listening department and that's frustrating. But the food is great, plus most of the long term employees are awesome and recognize me, which is what keeps me coming back.

Food-wise, this place is fine. All I've had here is burritos and they can be described as a slightly healthier Chipotle. Where the rating comes from is the insanity that happens on the inside. There are unsupervised kids running around, throwing utensils and screaming every time I go in. The staff is less than helpful and it never seems like any of them are aware of what the other is doing. It always takes 5 times longer to get your meal than it should, probably because said staff is taking phone orders every 10 seconds. I gave it a few chances, but will not return.

Not amazing, but pretty ok. Burritos and bowls are nice. Thai sauce is great. "Nacho's" are kind of a joke... Food takes a while but does seem fresh- Service is ok - employees are very, very informal. Not sure they know they're at work? Will return...
