House of T is the best in Portland metro area. I've seriously tried damn near every place in the entire metro area and none of them compare to house of T. I've only ordered the normal teriyaki and the spicy teriyaki, both of them are wonderful. I cannot vouch for anything else, and don't understand why you would deviate from the house specialty. To manage expectations, don't come expecting to be wowed with white glove service or sensitivities to gluten and other random crap. This is a mom and pop place that specializes in teriyaki - and they do a phenomenal job of it. Keep up the good work!

Yeah!!! House of Teryaki is the best. I am new to the area and my friend brought me take-out one night. The rest is history. I have only had the chicken teriyaki and the spicy chicken teriyaki. Both are great in their own way. I love the cabbage slaw they serve too. I don't even know what the dressing is, but it works. Make sure to add that Sriracha too. boom.

We just moved to the area and were looking for some good Teriyaki nearby and this place was great. We got the beef Teriyaki and it was a great serving size and the sauce was amazing! The service was friendly, and it was everything you would expect for a go-to Teriyaki place that's a good kept secret. My only complaint is I have been to similar places that are a couple of bucks cheaper. But at the same time, the food here was better.

Very pleased with my food. I ordered the Tofu and Rice place (not listed on the menu), it was awesome. The tofu was fried, crispy and with just the right amount of teriyaki sauce. The owner was very friendly. It definitely gets busy around 6pm.

I chose this place based off of the other reviews here on yelp. I'm new to the area and I love some good teriyaki so that seem like the place to go. If you drive too fast you'll definitely pass it. It looks a little rundown and it kind it is but the food is great! The price you pay and the portions that you get are definitely worth it. The sauce was great the chicken had a nice charr to it and the flavor was just right. I'll definitely go back.

Chicken teriaki yakisoba is my favorite. They always use good pieces of chicken, and my plate is always clean by the time I leave right down to the last noodle.

so easy to miss this place. not a looker from the outside (or inside) the sign outside says "thrift store teriyaki". lunch special was $7.25, the portion size was good and represents good value. however, for a lunch special i think price should be less and portion should be less as well. the chicken was cooked well, the teriyaki sauce was delicious and not too sweet, the salad was nice and tangy. overall, not disappointed. even though the food is good it's not a place you'd likely want to take a date to.

  • Jennifer C.

I was skeptical when I drove up because of the looks, but man do they have some delicious food!!! Must try if you're in the area!!

Food is good here. Japanese mom-and-pop rice and grilled meat shop. Solid, satisfying and consistent taste and quality food. My main beef with this joint is owners' unfriendliness, at least with me, as I have seen them be nicer to others, regulars, I assume. Gotta learn to be nicer to your customers!

Just relocated to Portland from San Diego...staying with relatives, so have been getting dinner to go from various resteraunts. All I can say is WOW! My cousin and her husband were shocked to have not discovered this gem after living in Tigard for years. The food was delicious...we each ordered a different item and ended up sharing all with each other because each one of us kept saying " this is sooooo good!". Stationed in Japan...this is the real deal:)

  • Jessie L.

Go. Go now to the House of Teriyaki. You will not be disappointed. Order the spicy chicken teriyaki. And while you're at it, get the chicken yakisoba. Actually, order anything on the menu. Yum, yum, yum.

Best kept secret on 99w. This place is great! The owners are so friendly, they remember their guests after a few visits, it's inexpensive, and always delicious! Highly recommended!

  • Andrew C.

Great food, but they had raised their prices $1.50 or so higher than what I was expecting from yelp. I will be back, the teriyaki was great!

  • Jin B.

I was so skeptical when my fiancé drove up to this place. But I was beyond pleasantly surprised! It has really great food and very helpful staff. The people that work there are super friendly and helped us choose something they thought we would enjoy off their menu. They even had a deck of photos that we could look at so we would know what we were getting. Things came in big portions and there was plenty of leftovers...even if we felt like we had eaten so much already! You should go, you won't be disappointed!!

"Thrift Store" Teriyaki is our go to place if we don't want to cook and want something fast. I feel like the decorating comes from a standard package that you get when you open any Asian restaurant, happy Buddha included. We always get it to go and is ready in "about 15 to 20 minutes." The people are nice. Must gets: spicy teriyaki, chicken yakisoba, and the BBQ chicken. the gyoza and egg rolls are good as well and we generally order one or the other every time we get a to go order.

    (5)
  • James F.

Some of the best teriyaki I've had and I've had a lot in my day. Meat has a nice char to it and they give you large portions. Brown rice alternative as well. Their gyoza is crispy and very nice, with its own sauce. The salad with the teriyaki is unique and very tasty. They have plenty of options, even Chinese (american) classics that are delish. My wife and I will get a few different ones, all with fried rice substituted, and share the good eats. I do wish they had steamed vegetables with the Chinese meals but you can order some as a side, at extra cost of course. I will say, I preferred the Sweet and Sour Chicken over the Sweet and Sour Pork.

  • J.c. B.

The spicy chicken is awesome. Don't rub your eyes or pick your nose after eating this. Ouch. Prices are right. Can get very busy during lunch rush, but not bad during dinner hours.

  • Ruthe F.

I've been loyal to House of Teriyaki for 21 years. Teriyaki Chicken is my go to dish w/ 1/2 rice & extra salad. The cabbage salad sauce is incredible and the recipe is a well kept secret. Egg rolls are great too.

  • Tara N.

Worst yakisoba I've ever had outside of a frozen entree from the freezer aisle. The small chunks of chicken were tasteless and had a mushy texture. The vegetables were few. Very disappointing, especially at $8.00, but even if it were priced accordingly (shouldn't be more than $5.50), I wouldn't order it again. I also ordered the crab puffs and they weren't seasoned well either, just tasted like a ball of cream cheese. On top of that they were stale. Service wasn't anything special either. Not rude, but not nice or friendly.

No refills on soda? Really? It's the little things that count and 10 cents of soda syrup cost you a repeat customer and I'm sure I'm not the only one.

  • Vanessa G.

Best teriyaki in town ... Hands down. Good thing to note: her sister owns house of teriyaki 2 in wilsonville and is FAR FRIENDLIER than the husband and wife that operate the Tigard location. I still put up with their shortness to get some dang good teriyaki though while in Tigard. Don't be fooled by the dingy building, this teriyaki is legit. Fairly certain their fried rice is laced with crack .

  • Denise H.

After moving to the Portland area I noticed something very strange- Teriyaki is everywhere. I have never seen so many options for getting some Teriyaki. So my boyfriend and I were hungry one night & it was too hot to cook so we ordered some take out from House of Teriyaki. I didn't go inside nor did I speak to anyone so I can't comment on those aspects of this business. We both ordered chicken Teriyaki bowls, and I was surprised at the huge amount that was in it! I was seriously stuffed when I was done eating. It wasn't the best chicken I've ever had in my life, but it was pretty damn good! Serving size was enormous for the price. I would order from here again!

  • Bryant B.

The food is fresh, relatively inexpensive (especially when the portion size is considered) and above all else, delicious. I usually get either the chicken teriyaki, the spicy chicken or the yakisoba, and none of them have let me down. Ever. In the 10 years I've been eating here. The spicy chicken packs just the right amount of heat, and the slaw that comes with it is actually pretty tasty. The teriyaki chicken is moist and flavorful, and the yakisoba is just perfect. I wish they still served beer, but their food is so good that I can manage without it.

    (5)
  • Megan H.

We love this place. The best Teriyaki on the west side. The spicy chicken is always good and we usually order the Beef yakisoba noodles. It's our go-to takeout restaurant.

  • Melina H.

Dive..absolute dive...clean and totally my scene. Don't blink or you will miss it...and you would be sorry if you did. The spice chicken is AMAZING. Totally AMAZING!!! I dream about this one dish on a regular basis and it is quite honestly the only thing that I have has on the menu in 10 years. Mildly sweet, definitely nose-running spicy - I order it with twice the cabbage slaw and half the rice (same price) - I highly recommend it just like this! The gal at the counter will know you after the second visit, I promise. Simple and so, so amazingly good.

    (5)
  • Broc T.

Hands down the best chicken teriyaki in Tigard and possibly Oregon. I tried this place in 2006 and I never stopped coming back! The whole meal is amazing, starting with the chicken and rice down to the salad and don't forget that egg roll!

    (5)
  • Bryce H.

You are right, to look at the building you might be tempted to drive on by, but you would be missing one of Tigard's great treasures. The food is always very good and a good value to boot. One dish can easily feed two or get it for one and take the other portion for lunch the next day. At work, this is one of our employees favorite goto lunches. From the Kung pao to the spicy chicken or manys fav the Teryaki chicken, you can't go wrong picking up lunch or dinner here.

  • Kevin D.

Absolutely, hands-down, without a doubt the best chicken teriyaki I've ever had (but everything I've had here is excellent). For me, it is the standard by which all other chicken teriyaki is judged. Some have come close, but they are all wanting. I had a six-week gig in Portland in 1998 and tried HOT on the recommendation of a co-worker. I was hooked; some days I ate there for both lunch and dinner. When I moved to Tigard permanently in 2006 I was delighted to find the restaurant was still here, and even more so that the chicken teriyaki was just as I remembered it to be. It's a small place and they get really busy at lunchtime, but if you get there before 11:30 you'll get your food a lot faster than if you arrive between 12 and 1.

  • Hanna S.

The owner is a mean Korean female with a stone cold look. I ordered to go for the 1st time and she was irritated when I ask for the description of meal with meat. Just normal questions but when asked to an abnormal person it becomes a problem. She was quickly slide my card and she said nothing about my order. I was waiting in a crampy small room and 2 years old daughter made a little noise. This lady who was about in her 40's rolled her eyes to my girl and gave her a cold mean stare and made my daughter cry. I immediately had to leave with my toddler without my order because she was scared and could not be consoled. I checked it tonight she took money from my credit card 8.95. She showed what kind person is she. This person will not hesitate to steal or hurt others. I feel sorry for her children and the poor customers that depend on her food. Teriyaki or what ever the menu in there is easy to make. I'm not going step my feet through those doors ever again. There are better alternatives such as the foodcourt at Hmart.

  • Scott R.

OK I admit it, I love this place. A few years ago, I worked nearby and came by 3 times a week. I no longer work close, but when I am in the neighborhood at lunch time, I stop. The order is always the same, Spicy Mongolian Beef. A little bit of teriyaki on the rice, a bit of Rooster sauce to top it off. Perfect, one of the best lunches around.

    (4)
  • Megan B.

NO MSG!!! This is the most solid Japanese/Teriyaki place I've found in the greater Portland area. The yakisoba is some of the best I've ever had and the service is friendly and efficient.

    (5)
  • Mark S.

Love the spicy chicken bentos, other dishes are great too. Small place to eat and it gets busy at lunch time so I always call in the order to go, give them a good 20 minutes to make it.

    (4)
  • Mike K.

This place isn't much to look at, inside or out. And it can be a hassle to drive here, especially in traffic. But the food is very decent, it doesn't cost an arm and/or a leg, and it's fairly quick (but we were the first people to arrive for dinner, so I don't think that was much of a challenge). I like teriyaki so I go to a lot of different places in the tri-county area, and this place is pretty much par for the course. Bottom line: you could do worse.

    (3)
  • Don D.

There's not a better teriyaki joint for 20 miles around this small place in Tigard on Hwy 99. Been going here for 15 years... I just walk in and they know what I want... always good, fresh and friendly!

  • Reina C.

The only reason this place gets 2 stars is because the food is good, and you get quite a bit of it for the price. My friend and I walked in here, and I stood behind my friend a bit while she ordered her food. The lady took her food, walked into the back room, came out, and sat down at a table while she organized some papers or something. She completely ignored me for a good 10 minutes. She wouldn't look up from what she was doing, and I didn't want to be that rude customer that gets uppity when they don't get served right away, so I scooted myself as close to the counter as possible hoping that she would get the hint. Nope. Like I said, it took ten minutes to get my order put in. She walked behind the counter at least three time to fake me out I guess, until finally I stopped her and asked nicely if I could order chicken teriyaki. She got kind of huffy with me and begrudgingly took my order. Right after she took my order, she sat back down to what she was doing. Two other girls walked in and she immediately took both of their orders without giving them any attitude. The food was pretty good. The chicken was tasty, and the portion was generous. I wasn't too stoked on the coleslaw, it was really warm and tasted a little weird. The location is a bit frustrating, good luck getting in there if there is any traffic. If it weren't for the terrible terrible service I might be convinced to go again, but there is no way that after I was treated so rudely that I'll be going back.

I have worked in Tigard for eight years now and eaten at every teriyaki place in all of the surrounding suburbs. This is hands down the best around. It might be a tad pricier compared to others but the flavor and quality are unmatched.

Best Teriyaki In Tigard! Combo Plates are of great value as they are packed with a ton of meat and good veggies!

  • Tim B.

One of the best Terriyaki places in town. Yes, this is the kind of place you usually drive by and think, "mediocre food at a low price." But yelpers steer me right, so I went into eat. Menu is somewhat typical, so I went with the General Tso's Chicken. It arrived and LOOKED just like all the other tons of Teriyaki places in the area. But when I started eating, wow, what a flavor explosion! And it was spicy, like actually spicy without additional sauce. Oh yeah, check it out! Great value!

    (5)
  • Christine D.

I went back there and dined in this week. Still tasty food. The restaurant isn't much to look at but the seating is adequate and the food came up quickly. We were the first ones in for dinner, albeit, it was in the 4:30ish hour but several other diners soon streamed in. I view this as more of a lunch and take out place but dining is fine. There is not much table service but that's ok it's an eat and go type of a situation. I'll continue to be back.

  • Frank Z.

Love this place. We usually just go with the teriyaki chicken plate. I would love to give this place a 5 star, but the lady at the counter reminds me of the soup nazi but in a teriyaki house. She really only seems friendly to certain people. Great food, bad service. Oh well, take the good with the bad.

I went here tonight based on the reviews, which are even better on Tripadvisor. I arrived at about 6:40 and it was busy. I received my food at 7:00. I think that's too long for a joint like this, but they had a few take out orders, some of them large, before me. I suspect that a longer wait is regular here. I don't fault them for this, but thought I should let you know. I probably unfairly compare every teriyaki place to Mashita Teriyaki in Tualatin. I live in Lake Oswego and would love to find something as good as MT closer. Sadly, despite the positive reviews of this place, it just isn't even close. In all ways, MT is better. I'm not saying this place is bad, just inferior. The amount of food (at least for take out) is about half of what you get at MT. Seriously. The $10 worth of food I received here would cost $5 at MT. Also, it wasn't nearly as good. I very regularly split one meal with my wife and my meat eating daughter and we're all full at MT. The one combination meal here didn't even do it for little old me. It was perfectly fine, don't get me wrong, but somehow MT delivers better food in a much better atmosphere, for half the price, and in about 1/4 of the time than this place. For me, that's worth the extra 10 minute drive. My wife said it was mean to give this place 2 stars, so I'm giving it 3 stars. Don't tell her please. I know she won't read this as she thinks I am an "idiot" and a "blowhard". Sorry, HOT, you're not for me. What time does MT close? I'm still hungry.

The food here is amazing! I had the Mongolian chicken with brown rice, and it's unlike anything I have tasted before. The combination of the seasoning for a sweet/savory flavor, without the sweetness being overpowering was incredible. We joked with the woman at the front counter that we will be back every day. She thought we were kidding.....

Pretty standard spicy chicken and egg rolls. Not bad at all, but didn't think it was anything spesh...

  • Matt L.

Occasionally I get the urge to take a trip over to the teriyaki house for a quick lunch. I feel like it's worth the price, pretty average as far as quality goes... The regular rice is a little more cooked than I like it, but that's just my own thing, I realize, and easily alleviated by asking for fried rice instead, or yakisoba. One important thing to note is that the veggies aren't all gross and limp or anything, the sauce isn't super salty or overpowering, and the meat is nice and lean, all of which are pretty refreshing in light of those being common complaints against other similar places. Also, the Gyoza didn't seem fresh or homemade, probably frozen... but tasty nonetheless. So far I've tried the chicken teriyaki, mongolian beef, and beef yakisoba, and they've been exactly what I was hoping for.

  • Jesy B.

If you're looking for good teriyaki, here's a good place to start! My co-workers and I call this place Thrift Store Teriyaki as it's by a thift store that has a sign that overwhelms this poor little store sign. It's pretty standard faire for what you'd find in a teriyaki place - besides the obvious, yakisoba, gyoza, rice, etc. I always go for the teriyak however. The chicken is well cooked and mostly white meat - and I love the sauce, sweet & tangy. The veggies it comes with are also nicely cooked so not soggy, limp or gross in anyway. AKA I usually eat them too. The rice can be hit or miss but I've never been too let down so it's OK with me. I agree with the first review - ordering can be a bit...soup nazi. The woman who runs it is overwhelmingly efficient but just ever so slighty (and by slightly, I mean completely) terrifying.

Ummmm. I stopped in here after a quick trip through Fred Meyer next door, at the end of one of the longest and hardest days of my life. You know those days, where you just want something hearty and good in a bag, and the only thinkable place to eat it is curled up on the couch. For just $9, I got their special, which was half yakisoba and half teriyaki chicken and rice. On the short drive home, the aromas from that bag were just tantalizing. Finally made it to the couch with my generous hot dinner, and it was amazing. The flavors turned the icky day into a completely dim memory. Now that's a food coma. And to top it off, there was enough left over for Miss. Picky-Eater Teenager to enjoy when she got off work a few hours later, for which she was grateful. Turns out, she had discovered the place a few days earlier. And didn't tell me about it. *Dang kids* Hmmmmph.

I didn't try this place for the longest time because it looks like such a dump from the outside but, once I went I was pleasantly surprised. It's clean and much nicer looking inside and the food is pretty good.

I've been on a kick of finding good inexpensive places to eat lately. I love to eat out at happy hours, but even they put a dent in the wallet after a while and you rarely get a great meal out of the deal. Then I went to this place... no frills, just yummy food for a good price. My wife and I got chicken dishes- I had Kung Pao that had a nice smoky barbeque flavor, and she had spicy chicken that was tasty and just-right spicy. Servings were more than we could eat and we left happy happy. I can see us going back here again.

I realized upon sitting in here that I don't think I've ever had yakisoba in anything but a styrofoam container. But please read on. I ordered an egg roll, it arrived on a plate, i let it cool. Once at the safe temperature i decided to bite in. I thought to my self, then said out loud to my dining partner. "This Is The Best Egg Roll I've Ever Had" man. Next came the Yakisoba with beef, on a plate. I proceed to chop up the noodles a bit and have a taste of the beef. Good. Vegetables looked fresh. Comes with a mound of rice, I don't think this is necessary. This is a big portion. And it was great! I almost forgot about how good the egg roll was. Definitely stop in if your in the area.

  • Tobby Y.

I love the Spicy Chicken and Mongolian Beef! And if I ever feel like treatin' myself out to a meal I get the Short Ribs MMmmmMm. Overall, this place is just a bomb place to get some cheap eats. And don't be scared of Mr. Lee, he may look big and scary but he's a funny man with some delicious food!

I have been coming here for 12 years, and even though I haven't been living in Portland for 9 of those years, whenever I come back for a visit, this is one of my stops. They grill their chicken perfectly, their rice is always perfect as well, and all of their sauces and other cooking methods are precise and consistent. It is also run by a really nice family to boot. I tend to order the spicy chicken teriyaki the most often; if you are spice averse, I'd opt for something else though, because I've seen this dish make some rather sturdy friends of mine sweat. This place is the evidence that the best treats are often the most modestly wrapped.

  • Ashley C.

This place Is the teriyaki incarnation of the soup nazi's place. You may have to wait awhile for your food, and deal with the abrupt lady behind the counter, but the food is very good! It needs a serious interior decor consultation but take your Spicy Chicken to go and enjoy!

  • Allen A.

My son and I love this place. He always gets the teriyaki chicken and I get the Kung pao chicken. The veggies are crisp and never soggy. My son loves the side salad that come with his chicken teriyaki. The owners are very pleasant and friendly every time, not sure what all the soup Nazi talk is about.

  • Randy M.

The spicy chicken is the best. This is a place I go when I need a fix.

    (5)
  • Dianne E.

Nothing special here. The yakisoba with chicken was mostly noodles, a scattering of chicken chunks, and hardly any veggies. It came with a scoop of white rice (more starch?) and a tiny bit of soy sauce. Flavor-wise, it was forgettable. As a "lunch special" priced at $6.99, it was no bargain. I won't go back.

Holy teriyaki!!! House of Teryiaki how I miss you! As a San diego transplant/Portland native, I have dreams of eating here again. I had no idea that it would be so impossible to find good teriyaki here, let alone find teriyaki altogether. My dad took me to this place when I was 16. Im 30 going on 31 now. I havent been back since my last trip home, which was 3 plus years ago now and if I walked in tomorrow they would recognize me and be excited to see me. At that point they would inquire where my (ex) boyfriend and my dad are? Amazing! To get to the food... I was instantly addicted. I unfortunately wound up moving to Hillsboro (boo!) and would suffer the 45 min. to 1 hour drive on an empty stomach just to eat here. In an unassuming little (white?) building almost directly across from the Tigard theatres, you can find the best tasting/healthiest teriyaki. I had a hard time ordering anything else but did try the chicken fried rice (d-lish!) and tasted some of my friends bbq pork (outstanding), oh, and the spring rolls, ooh. Bottom line... this place will convert teriyaki haters. If they exist. Chicken breast (which I now know takes great skill to be tasty and wonderful) grilled up on what has to be open flame; just a touch of that awesome blackening on the fringes of the cut. Served atop perfectly steamed white rice, or for us gluttons, atop the best fried rice this side of anywhere. And the salad... oh... the salad! As anxious and shifty I got to enjoy the main attraction (while reading the myriad of supplied magazines) ... I always dug in to this little side dish first, savoring every bite. So simple... small salad with some-kind-of-wonderful dressing which is perfectly creamy and subtle. Yum. So the clencher is now the sauce which they so generously equip you with at every table. Its amazing! I am on a quest to get it sent the 1100 miles to my house in a teriyaki dead zone. Armed with my personal bottle I was always in charge of my own teryaki level of zen. MMMMMMmmmm! Everyone should go here! If by chance you pass it by mistake, you can turn in to the Fred Meyer parking lot and park near the mattress store. Ahh, Fred Meyer.... we'll save that for another review. Go here! Go HERE! GO HERE!!!!!!!
