Their new menu is incredible! Their old menu was pretty good but the new menu had a ton of new stuff! You can never go wrong with noodles. The more noodles the better. I always tend to order pineapple fried rice and my sister orders pad Thai and we share. Their papaya salad Laos style is so mouth watering and delicious, it taste just like my parents papaya salad. Nowa days I always just order kapoun, beef pho, chicken pho or kapiet. You can never go wrong with anything on their menu. Fabulous food and excellent customer service!

It's a small restaurant in a strip mall that has seen better days. Inside the restaurant is clean and well lit. The food is GREAT! Lots of flavors and colors. Spice heat ranges from mild to wild. Servings are generous but not humungous. Staff is very attentive and friendly. I have eaten here four times so far and will be back OFTEN.

I really enjoy the Honey Jar a lot! I usually always get the same thing...... Pineapple Fried rice with Beef and extra pineapple. It is very yummy and I love it. If you aren't going to eat there, I suggest that you call your order in for pick up. BUT, be careful. The last time I called my order in, I went to pick up and they had given my food to someone else. The gal apologized and said it would only be a few minutes, and she would put a rush on it. So I sat there for about 10 minutes. I asked about how much longer it would be, and the cook happened to be out there and said she had put it on the counter. So, they not only gave my food away once, but they did it twice! I was not happy. So they made my lunch a 3rd time. I finally did get my food- and of course it was amazing- as usual. But they didn't offer anything for the inconvenience of waiting for my food for so long or the fact that they gave it away to 2 different customers! Other than that, I really do like this place. We order take out for work a few times a month, and everyone at my work enjoys what they get as well!

The best Thai food in the Oregon, we used to live at SE Portland and now we live in Tigard and still going all the way to that place for some Thai food. We went probably to every Thai food that is around here in Tigard and nothing so delicious like at Honey Jar. They never disappoint us. My favorite dish is fried rice with chicken and beef, and my husband usually gets fried rice with shrimp and spicy.

Just wanted to update and to let folks know that the Honey Jar Cafe underwent a remodel in the past few months since my original review (Sept. 2014). The interior has been updated a bit with a fresh coat of paint, some new wall decor and more tables and chairs. Unfortunately, making all the room meant taking out the beloved doughnut case - which means no more doughnuts in the morning nor a sweet dessert at lunch time. I have been SUUUUUUPER bummed about this after they reopened. So, without the doughnuts, they are no longer opened in the mornings.Instead, they are open late and seem to have more alcohol on the menu. I also noticed a small doorway to your left when you first walk in (unless that's been there all along??) and it leads you to video game poker machines. Eeehhh. HJC will still be my neighborhood Thai place, but I miss the doughnuts!!

Ordered Phad Thai w/ Chicken to-go. It was ready when I showed up 20 minutes later. The restaurant was dark and not very inviting. The furniture was old and it looked as though nothing had been updated in decades. Overall the atmosphere did not instill trust in the food I would be eating. Drove back and brought the food back to my desk. It looked okay but really didn't taste that great. The chicken was incredibly dry and tasted as though it had been cooked days ago and then reheated. The green onions tasted old and were a weird color. The whole dish just didn't feel right. After experiencing the store front, I didn't feel very confident that what I was eating wouldn't make me sick. Only finished half of it and gave the rest to Ben. He thought it was pretty good but he also hadn't really eaten anything all day. After hearing about the free doughnut I way hoping I would receive one with my take-out. Unfortunately this wasn't the case.

Is it a Thai restaurant? Is it a donut shop? Yes and yes. Weird, but true. I have honestly never seen a Thai restaurant that doubles as a donut shop in the morning, but I guess you have to make your money where you can. I stopped by here one morning as I was out in this area and all of a sudden craving donuts. I usually judge a place on their glazed. I bought one of those and a chocolate glazed too, but there are more interesting donuts to be had here. They were nice, light and fluffy. The one complaint was that they were a bit on the cold side. Hot donuts=yum, cold donuts=not so yum. Don't know how long they had been sitting around. They weren't stale, just cold. Oh well. They still hit the spot and I'm sure I'll stop in again if I happen to be out here and the craving hits.

Honey Jar is a mom and pop style restaurant that serves Thai food and pho. Their prices are decent, and the food comes in larger servings than a typical Thai restaurants. They have a very flavorful green curry that comes with steamed rice, and I cannot wait to try their other types of curries. I also love their spicy fried rice and noodle dishes that they make with tofu for us vegetarians. Make sure you ask them because some dishes cannot be altered and use fish sauce. The food comes out piping hot. Keep up the good work!

The staff was friendly. The service was good. The price was acceptable. The portions were big. I ordered the chicken tom yum soup and the drunken noodle with beef. The soup was fairly good but I've had much better tom yum. The drunken noodle was mediocre. The sauce itself was good but there was an off flavor in the beef that I had trouble getting past. The noodles also clumped together. Overall the place was good but I probably won't go back.

Absolutely in love with this restaurant. I've been coming here for years and the food is great: fried rice and pho are my favorite. I recommend this restaurant to anyone, and to those who want a drink, they now have alcohol!

Good 'n Tasty Thai food for a reasonable price. Doughnuts are great, but they have become so well known that they run out before the end of lunch time. Outdoor seating in patio area is available too! Friendly service with a grateful smile always gets my return business.

This place is an odd find that's been here for quite a long time. In the morning it's a donut shop. Donuts and coffee straight up. Nothing fancy-the donuts are the typical fare. French crullers, maple bars, cinnamon twists, old fashions line the shelves and you pick some out and have them still hot with a cup of coffee. Not a bad way to start your morning. At lunch it's a Thai restaurant: The food is low priced and comes in ample portions. (For dessert they give you a donut left over from the am.) Everything I've eaten here is tasty and comes out fast. Perfect for a quick on the go lunch. The Thai food is not very spicy (I like it that way....but if you like it spicy remember to ask.) So if you are in this part of town for some reason.....great little place. (They also have a nice outdoor patio if you like to sit outside.)

I went out with 2 of my coworkers today for our payday lunch out meal. We arrived at the restaurant and was seated right away. The food didn't take that long to get to us. The waitress was very friendly and was attentive to us. They tables were clean, floors were clean. It was not your typical Thai restaurant, but it was a relaxing cafe. I would recommend this place to everyone.

Everything I have ordered here is fabulous! The food has an authentic taste and they use just the right amount of spice, it seems like many Thai restaurants are either too much spice or too bland, this place does it just right! My kids love the Thai fried rice and the special treat of a delicious donut at the end of our meal. I have also always had excellent service from the staff; very friendly and welcoming. I would definitely recommend the food if you're in this side of town, or after a shopping trip at Costco!

I have been going here for around 10 years now, and there is a reason why I come back. The donuts are amazing, and they are very generously priced. I think that it's pretty cool that they will give you donuts with anything you order, as long as they are not all sold out. I am not a huge fan of thai food, but I always enjoy whatever I order here. I enjoy that they have a wide variety meals on their menu. Yes, the burgers at this Thai place are actually good, the sandwiches too!! There are plenty of drink options, although nothing alcoholic.....yet! Overall, the prices are more than reasonable, the family who staffs the place are a wonderful group of people, and the food is delicious!

The food is very tasty with huge serving sizes. The pineapple fried rice is delicious as well as their pad thai.. We will return again. It is small and a bit crowed but we'll worth the value.

This place is HANDS DOWN AMAZZZZZZINGGG!! I've never went to a thai restaurant that has such amazing service and outstanding delicious food! This place will probably be the only thai restaurant that I will ever come to. Trust me, come here and you will loveeeeee it!

  • Avid C.

Best Thai food I have ever had! I life and work not too far from here and I can always rely on their consistency. I think I've gone there too often that they already know what I was in the mood for every time I come here. Service is excellent and food is delicious!

The Pad Ke Mao is pretty good. Pad Thai and Phad See Ewe are ok. I like to get the salad rolls with chicken rather than shrimp, but beware, the peanut sauce has a lot of sugar in it. Perhaps from the honey jar for which this place is named? Can't beat the fact that they will often give you a donut with your meal. If only more places did that perhaps we would be more content in life.

  • Kathryn K.

This place is not for me but if you like spicy food you should check it out. I asked for mild on how hot I wanted my food and it was still way to spicy for me. It had really good flavor and the price was definitely right. I couldn't eat much because of how spicy it was. The donuts with the meal are a major plus.

Icecream Frozen yogurt Soup Salad Sandwhich Donuts Coffee Burgers Bubble tea Thai food (noodles, curry, fried rice) Count-em TEN different items...a jack of all trades, a master of none. Don't expect the best thai food or bubble tea (which sometimes takes 25' for them to cook the tapioca :-/ ) but it's decent enough. They're friendly, and often times they throw in a free donut with a lunch entrée (likely because they'll be thrown out the next day if they don't) Give it a shot if you can't find a better source of the above 10 items in your locale!

I worked in this area for 2 years, and frequented this place for the Chicken rice soup, and some noodles and fried rice that I can't remember the name of. Honey jar was famous around my office. Now I'm in working in the area on a temp job, and exploring my old haunts. So, after years without honey jar, I called in a to-go order of Massuman curry and Tom Yum soup, to bring some home for the hubby, who also has an apple fritter surprise coming. I don't eat donuts much, but this place has the BEST donuts from what I understand, and even I give them a sugar coated thumbs up. Once upon a time, I took my mom here, and while we were eating, this excited looking kid walked in, asked for a donut, and was told that they were OUT of donuts. The look on his face made me want to cry. It was like his willy wonka dream had been stepped on, he sadly sauntered out, scuffling his feet, his sad head down the whole way. I had images of him saving his allowance all week for that one donut, or his mom telling him if he cleaned his room all week he could have one, then his sugar plum dreams were dashed. But I digress. So, the service is stellar, the lady is so sweet as I pay for my food. I couldn't eat much cause it was still too hot, but it was so good I burnt my tongue trying! Really the best, richest yest savory massuman I've ever had, and the Tom yum was delish and not too sweet, which is my favorite kind. I should have asked for more spice though =) But yeah, this place has everything, and everything I've had was good, plan on trying more, for sure. The only negative thing I have to say would be, both things I ordered were really oily, it was swimming on the top, but easy to scoop off, and honestly, that's probably why it was so freaking delicious. I mean, this food was really good. So what's wrong? Nuttin, honey jar. Keep it up!

My work recently moved to NE from Clackamas. I was really worried about the food options (mostly that there was no chipotle in the area). A coworker stumbled on the honey jar and I'm so happy. First the ladies in here rock! They are so adorable and provide the best service. Second, huge portions of delicious food! Order pad thai... it comes with a doughnut! Order spicy noodle... It comes with a doughnut! Order curry... You get the idea. Everything on the menu is delicious (and comes with a doughnut). Eat here... (also, avoid the place next door at all costs)

Pretty good Thai food! When you ask for it spicy, they'll actually make it spicy. It's a bit addicting! The other fun secret is the free donut after the meal! Talk about a sweet deal!

This place is one of my regular places. It's great for lunch. Considering that there's a donut shop inside a restaurant, one could be suspicious about the Thai food. Surprisingly the food is quite authentic. It's decently priced and is great for lunch. Ones of my favorite dishes are shrimp salad rolls, spicy noodles and Tom ka soup. It's not a wow me Thai food but I do appreciate it's existence. Service is nice and quick and you get a free donut for dessert if they like you enough.

My wife for months has been trying to solve the mystery of where our school got our doughnuts. Finally today she found out it was the Honey Jar. After we left the bookstore we drove over. Appearances aren't everything fortunately, and when we walked through the door we were greeted by friendly staff. They have a broad menu ranging from Thai to doughnuts and hamburgers to deli style sandwiches. Don't forget the frozen yogurt and espresso. This place has something for everyone. We ordered the spicy noodles and the teriyaki chicken. The food was nice and hot and has great flavor. During our lunch we received two doughnuts on the house. We got a cake and old fashioned. Both were moist, and the glazed they used is DIVINE. Who would have thought Thai and doughnuts go together? Delicious meal, great service, and all around a good time. Can't wait to go back!

Honestly, this review is all about the to-go experience I just had there. Not about anything else. So I'm sure the food and donuts are good and great and fantastic; I however didn't get to experience this. I came here and went to the counter to order some bubble tea. Though the worker there told me they had it, when I said "do you only have blended or do you also have it milky (or over ice)?" she seemed confused and had to go to the kitchen to ask. When the chef came out and told me they only had the blended kind, I was fine with it and opted for that instead. When it finally came out to me the woman put the drink on the counter and walked over to a gentleman (who just walked through the door) and tended to him, taking his order and his money, even though I was standing in front of the register with my wallet and cash out to pay for it. When I told the woman I hadn't paid for my drink yet (and that's why I was still standing there), she seemed very frustrated with me and took my cash and started punching numbers on the register and didn't exactly know how much it was. I ended up letting her keep the change and walked out. I would be MORE than willing to endure this type of service if the bubble tea was good (for those of you who follow my posts I am an admitted bubble-tea-aholic), but this frothy sea-green powdery concoction (which by the way came in an italian soda-type plastic cup and did not have ANY tapioca balls in it) was NOT bubble tea. I'm pretty sure it's just water, ice and some kind of sweet syrup (which resembles NOTHING like green tea but tastes more like melted ice cream). This place is next to my work, so I MAY come back for a donut or some food (because the prices were pretty moderate). But no, no bubble tea. Not even for a BT-aholic like me.

Went to the Honey Jar today for the first time and WOW! I got the green curry with medium spiciness and it was delicious albeit a little greasy. Only regret is I wish I would've gotten "hot" spiciness instead since it was a little more on the sweeter side than I anticipated. Also, my lunch came with a FREE DONUT! It was light, sweet, and fluffy, comparible to Krispy Kreme without all the icing. I will definitely be making this a regular lunch destination since it is right down the street from my work.

Hidden gem! I've been coming here once a week for four years. It was my first introduction to a variety of Thai food choices. I love it! And the people who own it are so sweet. They offer a variety of different foods, hamburgers (haven't tried those), Thai dishes (everything I've tried was delicious), and Tacos, yes Tacos and some of the best I've ever had! Be sure to tell them if you want your food mild, medium, or hot as they tend to go heavy on the heat. Bonus: If they have any left over you get free donuts with your food too!

  • Ode T.

Friendly and fast service. The only downfall was the way my pho tasted. It was a bit on the bland side and the beef soup was very greasy compared to the pho I am used to. It didn't take long for the grease to first up to the top. Nevertheless, they offer generous portions and have us free homemade donuts. Will probably visit again to try some other dishes.

Honey Jar is nothing to look at, kind of hole in the wall, but good, reasonably priced Thai food with a wacko food combo finish - they give free donuts with each entree. Crazy, but kind of fun. I wouldn't drive across town for it, but if I am by Costco, I will sometimes get some Honey Jar takeout and am a hero with the wife.

Absolutely the best donuts around. I can't attest to any of the food options, but I will routinely drive out of my way to pick up a couple dozen donuts to bring into work. The bear claws are sensational. MmmMmm...high calorie goodness.

This place is great! I have lived in Argay for 4 and a half years, and this place is one of my favorite places to go! They have the cities best doughnuts (seriously, best apple fritters and buttermilk bars ever). If you go in the AM and get a coffee (really good espresso too!) they will give you a doughnut with your latte! They also have great lunch/dinner food too! Their teriyaki chicken is the best I have found. Their soups are also great when it's cold out. Ohh... and when you order lunch or dinner and they have doughnuts left over, they will give you one with your meal! Check this place out! It's well worth it!

Super cheap, good selection and pretty good food. Wow, this place has a big selection, donuts, frozen yogurt, Thai food, coffee, hamburgers and more. I live nearby, and it's great for a quick cheap lunch or dinner. The donuts and Thai food are good, not the best ever, but you can get a filling meal for $7-$10, and I have a big appetite. It appears to be a little family business, the owners/staff are very friendly and usually throw in a free donut or 2 for lunch and dinner. Even the bacon cheeseburger was pretty good, though not great, and Asian restaurants usually have lousy burgers. Service is pretty fast, though usually only 1-3 people working there at a time who look related. I usually get the sweet and sour beef, and my fiance usually gets the coconut soup (which is very good for something I don't normally like). Probably not worth driving across town for, but if you live nearby or are in the neighborhood and want a cheap, filling Thai meal or some good donuts, I certainly recommend them. They seem to have a lot of regulars who chat with the staff/owners. Donuts are best in the morning of course, but they're not bad even in the evening after getting a little stale.

Honey jar has the best donuts! Made fresh daily, yummy delicious donuts. I get the Thai iced tea with my donuts. Friendly staff and owner. I would definitely go again.

You've gotta give at least four stars to any restaurant that offers: 1) frozen yogurt 2) espresso drinks 3) Thai food 4) doughnuts (free with your Thai food! yay!) 5) deli sandwiches 6) ice cream 7) bubble tea Honey Jar's not the greatest at any one of these things, but they have respectable offerings in all categories. I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here, but when I worked in the area it was a great alternative to Burgerville and Taco Bell. And the people here are super nice. I always loved finding a surprise doughnut next to the Pad Se Ew in my takeout bag!

Some of the best donuts in the metro area, a little out of the way but worth it. If you are sick of gimmicky donuts this is the place to go for, Dia de los Donuts!!

Ate here with my family after Christmas and truly enjoyed it very much! One of the proprietors dropped by our table several times to see how we were enjoying the incredible Thai food. We had Paneng Curry, Pad Thai, Papaya Salad, Tom khai ghai soup and other entrees that were all wonderful!!

Donuts are delicious here. There is a variety of food to choose from including thai food. If you work in the area it would be a good spot to grab lunch but as for going out to eat, it's not that kind of place.

I just had a horrible experience. Went during my 1 hour lunch and placed a carryout order of drunken noodle and tofu. I was with three other people. There was not a line. We waited. A few people came in after us. A few with phone in order pickups. The tables were full. While we waited, at least 4 people that placed orders after us received their food. The staff refused eye contact and never mentioned there being a problem. After 45 minutes I asked the server what was going on and she replied "you're in order". At 50 minutes we were a bit frustrated and offered to just get our money back. The same server then was offended and said it was coming up next. We finally got our food. It was not good. I had about 5 little cubes of tofu. It was too salty. Tasted nothing like any drunken noodle I've ever tried. And 2 hours later I am sick. I just called one of the others and they too are sick. I will never go back.
