We have been to Hidden Bay a number of times and it is always wonderful! The burgers are delicious! And the view is amazing! LOVE this place soooo much...

Add a star if you're not hampered by food allergies. The view from the intimate deck is stunning, and we lucked out on sunny Saturday morning for a second breakfast. It was too early for the lunch menu--11am--so we had to order the one breakfast they offered. It's a really small space, so I get it. The staff was friendly and efficient--we ordered at the counter, but they only offered one option for breakfast: scrambled eggs, sausage, fruit and French toast. My husband said it was all good. I needed to opt out on the eggs and French toast because of egg and gluten issues. My food was fine, and it's the way I eat at home, but I was hoping for room to experiment--maybe even gluten free toast. We didn't come here for the coffee, which was a good thing because the coffee was watery and thin. But we didn't truly come for the food either--we came for the view of the bay and the boats, and this place didn't disappoint. We sat on the deck in the sun and enjoyed the privacy. The inside tables were busy-ish with people talking in a small space--I can imagine it gets loud and lively there. We'll come back for lunch to try a bigger menu. For the reviewers who brought large parties to this place and then complained about the service, I gotta wonder at their judgment--this is clearly not the place for parties over 4-5 people unless you rent it out. Even then, there's a key for the bathroom. There are other restaurants that answer the challenge of large parties better than this lovely little gem.

Hidden Bay Cafe was one of the most pleasant restaurants I been to in a long time. You can go to Red Robin and pay $9.00 for a good Burger or you can go to Hidden Bay Cafe and pay $9.00 for a great Burger and a much better atmosphere. The music is current and the view is immaculate. The name "Hidden" is the perfect name. Seeing how this Cafe is not an easy find. Over looking the Marina and the porch grill they cook on, gives you time to absorb the ambiance. The mixed drinks are a good bonus to a good brunch, lunch, or dinner. Not to mention the daily specials (when they are not sold out). This is a great place (though small and Deli like), worthy or your time for breakfast, lunch or Dinner. Check it out! I am sure you will enjoy as I have.

The view of the marina in the spring and summer is really great. Burgers are very good, made on a BBQ on the deck. They do amazing work considering the tiny area they have for preparation and cooking. It would be great if they had more selection, but honestly for what they achieve, their friendly attitude, and the awesome view, they deserve five stars.

Edit: after a 1 hour, 15 minute wait for two burgers that never arrived this past weekend I have downgraded my review. No more weekend visits for us. Review below is accurate for most weekdays. I struggled a bit with rating this place as we know exactly what to expect when you go there...i almost did 4 stars but thats really not accurate or fair to other places ive reviewed. anyhow....this is a marina bar. What you will get is a burger and chips pretty much just like you'd do on your own grill. Nothing fancy, but its very consistent and thats what we like about it. its a quirky spot...and as others have pointed out its tough to find. Drive as far east as you can on tomahawk then turn left into the columbia crossings parking lot, cafe is marina side of the building. on every night except Fridays, you go in and order at the counter. Ive never paid at time of order...always come back in and settle up. Fridays there will be a guy with a guitar, steaks available, and table service instaed of ordering at the counter. This is a bit baffling even as a regular, but it is what it is. Saturdays and Sundays they have a brunch- i havent done it but its just what is being cooked that morning, nothing cooked to order. They are open until dark. Usually crowded on Friday and Saturday nights with locals that prefer it to the place up the street, so we go a little early to avoid the crowds. You wont get an extended dialogue with your server. This place is minimally staffed and the staff is just there to take your order at the counter and bring you the food hot off the grill. It is usually around 10 minutes to get your drinks and another 20 to get your food. Knowing this, it fits with what we enjoy which is a bit of privacy, a nice marina view, and unintrusive service. Price wise for two burgers and 4 mixed drinks it will run in the $40-$45 range. Its really not a dining destination but I appreciate it for what it is and theyve taken our business away from the place up the street.

Here I am again at the request of my Dad for his birthday. The first time here, I didn't do a review but this time I will. The Cafe is very hard to find even when you think you know where you are going. Basically it at the very east end of Tomahawk Island Dr, come to Sundance Marine and look left to see the small sign. The restaurant is on the back side of the building. The view is what brings people here, with a view of the river and boats that are docked at the marina. The food is standard sandwichs, burgers, a few salads and such. I had the Salmon Burger which was good for $8.95 but it just comes with chips. I had the Swiss & Mushroom burger last time that was also good. The prices here are a little much for the food and you have to order at the counter. In all, if the weather is good then come and relax and enjoy the view.

Went to Hidden Bay Cafe after long lines at a different restaurant/bar, what a great little hidden gem! The service was GREAT! The drinks were GREAT! The food is good, it is more BBQ style, burgers and chips. There are only a couple of people working at a time so if you are in a huge hurry I wouldn't recommend it but it was perfect for having a cold beverage outside and catching up with friends! I will defiantly return!

Wouldn't recommend if you are really hungry and in a rush. Firstly, quite hard to find (guess the name isn't joking) Secondly, only have one menu option and you can choose full or half order. Disappointing to me to say the least. With some good reviews, I expected at least a full menu.

EAT AT GOLDEN ARCHES BEFORE HIDDEN BAY CAFE!!! Our first time at Hidden Bay was a 90 plus degree day (with no shady places to sit) and we simply ordered two hamburgers. Well 63 minutes later they arrived and we were sweltering. Now these burgers cost $8.95 with a thin Costco economy beef patty and WAHOO a half dozen Lays Ruffle potato chips...nothing else...nada!!! We should have got up and walked out but at Hidden Bay you pay first for the privilege to wait an hour to eat. We asked to see the manager or owner - we were told none were available. So the next day I called and asked for the owners - Margie and Carl...thought they might like to know their restaurant has major problems. Too busy to talk to us. So I wait two days and call back - still no response - so we leave a message and now a week later no response. It is evident the either don't care or are incompetent to run a restaurant. There is a better river view a few blocks away at the 33rd street boat launch. So grab a $2 buck fast food burger and go sit at the river....but pass on this poor food and even worse service.

If you want to wait 25 mins for a bowl of soup and eat pretty good potato soup with lots of pepper so you can sneeze your bum off & a few very very small pieces of clam then you have found the place! Btw, I ordered Clam Chowder and it wasn't busy yesterday only 2 other tables. Oh well, nice view, service was stiffy, no one made eye contacts because they were too busy talking to each other.

Not nearly as exciting as its island counterpart, the Island Cafe. But this place does stay open year round. The inside space is quite small but exterior seating is nice, weather permitting. The menu is limited but decent. The staff are always friendly.

Awesome place to grab lunch or dinner and always friendly service, even when they are busy they always do their best to get you served in a timely manor.

Harbor boats galore in this spot. We walked ourselves basically across the street from Island Cafe to take a peek at this little cafe. They've got the boat view but not the river. It's relaxing enough. You order your food inside and it's pretty basic deli type food you read off their menu on the blackboard. We only stopped for one last margarita before we left the heat and headed back to town.

My wife and I went over there for a light lunch on a Sunday. It was quiet after the Sunday morning breakfast rush. We ordered burgers and they came promptly. They were delicious! We enjoyed the quiet view of the marina and eclectic marine-related wall paraphernalia decorating the cafe. We will be regulars.

My husband and I had been wanting to try this restaurant for some time. We arrived at the cafe for breakfast on a Saturday morning. We went inside to order, but were told to have a seat and that a server would come take our order. After waiting 15 minutes with the server literally walking past our table several times and not even acknowledging us, I went to her and asked for menus. She said they only had one item for breakfast. Ok . . . fine, I said, but could she please come take our order? She said she would. After waiting another 15 minutes, my husband flagged her down and asked her to take our order. She couldn't answer a couple of simple questions (like, do you have brewed decaf?) but finally took our order. After waiting another HOUR for our food to arrive, we gave up and left. (I'm still perplexed as to how it could take that long to serve customers when you're only serving ONE selection.) By then it was about 11 a.m., so we walked to The Island Cafe nearby and had a delicious lunch that was placed in front of us 20 minutes after sitting down. We will not return to The Hidden Bay Cafe again!

Wasn't the greatest burger, portion was generous just needed some seasoning besides the extra hot spot on the grill. Cocktails were good and location was peaceful.

On a sunny day you just want to be outside somewhere, right? So Hidden Bay Cafe sounded like a good retreat. But while the view was pleasant enough, the patio is arranged in a way that kind of dampens the mood - and the food leaves a lot to be desired. I ordered the Bleu Cheese Burger. But even though they come right off the grill so have every chance at being delightful, the hamburger patty was processed and tasteless, and served with a side of Ruffles potato chips and a wrapped peppermint patti. Not too appetizing. Here's the shocker: The burger and Ruffles meal was $10.50! And a bottle of beer goes for $3.50! (And a bottle is four ounces less than a pint you might get elsewhere for $4.) Nothing about the place rates a $14.00 meal, I'm sorry to say. I'd gone hoping for a nice little find on the water and left with a $30 tab for two for a marginally OK lunch.

A good, quiet place for a drink & contemplation. Hamburgers are delicious as they are barbecued outside. At the very end of the street; easy to miss. You need to order inside.

First off, this place really is hidden! Located at the far east end of Hayden Island, the road actually ends in a not well marked parking lot and then you have to go around to the river side of the building to a literal hole in the wall place. Being that its the "off-season", there was no one in any of the four tables and my first thought was, "wow, this poor chick who has to be here for 12 hours a day with nothing to do." Me and my friend ordered food. Tuesday is a meatload special and she mentioned she had some leftover meatloaf, so I asked for a meatloaf sandwich. My friend is a Bleu cheese fiend so ordered a Bleu cheese burger. We sat for a pretty long time as the waitress(/owner?) milled about making our food. To grill his burger, she had to go outside and use a pretty expensive gas barbecue that is set up outside under an awning. Odd, but actually a welcome change as it brought a hint of "summer" to a pretty dreary Portland day (it was approx. 35 degrees and snowing today.) The food came with little or no fanfare and wasn't horribly big on on presentation. However, the slice of meatloaf in my sandwich was twice as big as the bread and had plenty of trimming. Meatloaf tends to just be meatloaf but this version was fairly good in my opinion. My friends burger was overly laden with Bleu cheese, which he liked since he had a rather dismal version of this same burger at the local burger chain. All in all, I think I'll come back and try some other things. The food wasn't good or bad, but it filled me up and I came away happy so that counts for more for me than the lack of amazing taste, etc.

An odd little spot. I tried to eat here last summer, but left when I couldn't get any service. Figured it out this time, you order at the counter, they have no waitstaff. Everything is cooked on the BBQ on the patio, so there is a limited menu. We were offered the blue cheese bacon burgers for $8.50, which seemed reasonable. We waited a good 20+ minutes for our lunch, since the staff was more interested in who was going on break next. We were the only customers on a weekday at 1pm. Getting the burgers, they looked fairly impressive, large in size and loaded. Upon first bite, it was clear that they were basically just frozen beef patties on a bun with lettuce & tomato/onion. No fries, chips. Nothing spectacular, something I could have made for myself out on my back patio. When we went to pay, the person ringing up the tab said the burgers were $10.50, which we would never have paid, but after some consulting back to the order taker, they had given us the wrong price, and honored it anyway. All in all, it wasn't terrible, but nothing to brag about. I can't imagine what a mess it is when they're busy or on a weekend, this was our experience on a weekday! I won't be back, not anytime soon. I'd rather spend that kind of money at the Island Cafe, or even McMenamins, which is the same price, with at least better beer.

Had a good burger here with my wife last week. It felt like we were on vacation sitting on the porch overlooking all the boats in the marina. Very friendly staff, simple menu.

We got stuck on the island today due to a bridge lift. The traffic was already wound around to the mall, so we decided to cruise around a bit to avoid sitting in the car exhausts. Hubz mentioned he was "starving" and we remembered we had a coupon from the Entertainment Book for this place...so off we went! First off, even with the A-frames signs out every so often, this place is still a bit of trick to find. Got to take the road all the way to the end, park and then go around to the back of the building. Once you get there, you see that really this place is nothing more than a glorified burger pickup window for the most part. There are 2 or 3 tables inside, and everything else outside. Great for a nice day tho! You do order inside, then they bring your food and then you pay afterwards. A little quirky, but um...ok. There were about 6 or 7 different burgers on the menu, 3 salads, a hot dogs, and really not much else. Everything is about $8 and up. The burgers come with chips (Ruffles?!). Hubz got a salmon burger and I got the honey mustard chicken salad. Both were "OK". Nothing great, nothing really worth the higher cost. Drinks are a bit on the spendy side (cans of soda, Sobes, bottles of beer). It was kind of depressing, really. Hubz burger was nothing special - he swears it was a Costco salmon burger. My salad was ok, tho the chicken was a bit fatty for my liking. But then, I'm super picky about that kind of thing. And it was fully cooked, not charred to death, on the grill. The food did take a bit to get, but that might be because it's all cooked to order. The place was pretty busy, since the weather was awesome. The view of the marina is a nice plus, and during such great weather, a welcome site. The staff (mostly teenage girls) were nice. I think they are mostly still new. Other than to drop off our food, not a one came by our table. Since we had everything we needed, that was ok with me, since we got to eat in peace. But, if there had been something wrong, we would've had to go back to the order counter. The gist we got from this place, from the other conversations we heard around us, is that this is where "money comes"...meaning, those rich folks who live on the island, have big boats, etc. Not yuppies, but REAL money. And this is where they come to "slum it", so to speak, and dine on regular food. Not that that is bad, just different, and to adjust your attitude accordingly. In all, not a bad place. Nothing special, nothing extraordinary, but an "OK" place. We'd eat here again if we had another coupon (a bit pricey for us otherwise, for what it is, and its limited offerings - only so much one can throw quick on a grill, I guess).

My husband and I wanted to go to the Island Cafe at McCuddy's but it was super busy so we decided to try Hidden Bay Cafe. We seated ourselves and sat for a bit before we realized you order inside. I wanted the teriyki burger but they were out of pineapple so what's the point. We both ordered bacon cheese burgers. We waited and waited, and waited. I kid you not we waited 50 minutes for our burgers with chips. They forgot the bacon on mine. :( I should have just said never mind, but they took it back and and cooked some bacon. The burger was OK. I honestly think we could have gone to the store and bought our own burger making stuff and BBQ'd our own burger in that amount of time. Pretty disappointed. Won't be back. The view is nice, but not worth it.

So, I had this coupon, see . . . buy one lunch item and get one free. Sounded good, so we decided to explore the east end of Hayden Island and check it out. Hidden Bay is the perfect name for this place, as it is a tiny snack shack tucked in around the back of a commercial marine building. Cute little deck overlooking the chock-full-o-boats baylet, BBQ on the deck, one little table and a couple of chairs. Inside we found 4 tables, postage-stamp size kitchen and a drink cooler. For such a tiny place, it was fairly quaint, with nautical themed decorations, lots of model boats and binoculars available for yacht watching. The blackboard menu showed mostly burgers, a couple of salads, sandwiches and clam chowder. Burgers were around $8 each. We ordered a turkey burger and a half turkey sandwich with a bowl of chowder and two sodas. The turkey burger was big garnished with sliced tomato and lettuce. Tasty and filling, served with Ruffles and a couple slices of pickle. The chowder bowl was of good size and the server brought a whole turkey sandwich instead of the half that was ordered. (and did not offer to correct the mistake or alter the bill) The soup was fine, nothing special; same with the turkey sandwich. Sodas were bottled, with a good selection. All in all, a satisfactory lunch. The rude surprise came with the $17.50 lunch tab . . . AFTER the free turkey burger/coupon had been deducted. The chowder/turkey sandwich/soda lunch cost $15.00 and was worth maybe $9.50. We'll most likely not visit again.
