Fast, friendly and uncomplicated. Reasonably priced food, the only downside is if you have a car parking is kind of a pain in the backside. Other than that, this place is good eats. The mac salad is a mayo lovers dream!

This was my first time here and it was really great food. I had the regular order of teriyaki beef, and it was amazing! The macaroni salad and teriyaki sauce were really good and I would definitely recommend.

It's been a long time since I've eaten Hawaiian food; the location looks like it's a converted gas station. They've done a great job with the place. And there's parking! The food was ok. I had a mixed of the special beef and veggies; I was disappointed that the meat and vegetables were mixed together. Most Hawaiian places offer vegetables to go along with the ordered meat, but not this one. The food tasted good. The macaroni salad was great!

I grew up in Hawaii and came here having read the reviews about the bad service and so-so food, thinking it couldn't be anything I wasn't used to at a typical plate lunch place in Hawaii. While the food was alright, it was skimpy and the chicken had too much sauce. The service though is what really broke the deal. The guy behind the counter did not want to be there. I asked him how he was without him returning the courteous gesture. Instead he stood there staring at the screen looking like he was doing something. I just stood there for a good minute before he looked up and gave a wrinkled brow. I told him my order and he quickly got me out of there. Exceptionally uniquely bad service in my opinion.

Giving this place 2 stars only because the convenient location and limited availability of off street parking. The food and service are average at best. The portions are smaller than you would expect for true Hawaiian food and it is overpriced. Do yourself a favor and go see my buddy Dave at Bamboo Grove off Macadam for true Hawaiian grinds that is not in a former gas station.

Met my sister/brother-in-law here for lunch. First of all, it's in probably one of the most unique settings ever - the restaurant itself is in a converted gas station/auto repair shop. Like you can seriously imagine the gas station it took over. Awesome setting =). The food was a different thing, however. I ordered the #1 beef plate. Marination was good however, the beef was tough - not tender. I've had this type of beef plate at other hawaiian food places where the beef was tender and juicy. The beef here was tough and somewhat dry. The mac salad was overly saturated with mayonnaise. It was gross. Gross to the point where I had to scoop some of it over my dry white rice in an effort to absorb some of the sauce. Good mac salad is flavorful without using too much mayo. Don't need to overdo it. It should complement the other foods on the plate - not overwhelm. The rice. Ugh. It was dry. 90% of the hawaiian food places I've gone to that I ended up enjoying - the rice was moist and fluffy. Not here. If the rice was moist and fluffy, I'm sure I could've put up with the beef being so tough and the mac salad being overly sauced. I really did want to like this place. It's hard to find hawaiian food eateries in the area - and since I'm not from here, I definitely didn't have anywhere nearby to compare it to so I compared it to the choices I have down in Socal. My plate was a disappointment, still, I'm willing to give them another shot the next time I'm in the area. And I'll probably try their chicken instead of beef.

Everytime I dog-sit for my brother and sister-in-law in the Pearl I look forward to grabbing takeout from Hawaiian Time atleast once. The place is housed in an adorable yellow converted garage so it's super easy to spot in the Pearl. I always grab a combo plate of the Hulu Huli Chicken and the Kaluah Pork with rice and Mac on the side; basically enough for 3 meals or 1.5 if you're having a stay-in sort of Fat Day. The price tag is about $8.95 and for the amount of food you get, I'd say that's perfectly fair. The pulled Kaluah Pork is moist and flavorful on it's own, so don't even think about drenching it in sauce until you've tried it on it's own first. The same goes for the Huli Huli Chicken which has been marinated in teriyaki sauce and grilled to sweet perfection. The Macaroni salad at this location is one of the best in Portland, combining the perfect ratio of sauce (ok, let's be honest, mayo) and seasoning. I am one of those people who peppers everything, so I fully appreciate that Hawaiian Time doesn't skimp on the pepper in their Mac. On a side note, there is another Hawaiian Time location over in Vancouver. Each location is owned by different people, and while the food at the Vancouver location is good, the NW Portland location is great.

Great fast Hawaiian food. Love going here for lunch or dinner. It's always a lot of food and I leave with leftovers.

Hawaiin time has amazing food (extremely flavorful) and great friendly service! Even when it's been busy when I've gone they always serve me with a smile on their face and the wait time has never been over 10 min for my food ( and that's when the restaurants packed). Go there!

Recently moved back to the PNW after living in Hawaii for about 12yrs and went to Hawaiian Time with some co-workers. The mac salad was realy good like everyone describes, so good! I ordered the Moana Loa Chicken, HOT but it wasnt that hot which isnt a big deal it still had plenty good flavor. Ill definitely visit the place again.

I had wanted to try Hawaiian Time for a while as it is the only Hawaiian restaurant in the Pearl. The closest Hawaiian food otherwise is some carts downtown. I wish those carts would make a restaurant because they are much better. The one saving grace for Hawaiian Time is that I like their macaroni salad. It was creamy with lots of black pepper. This place isn't too expensive, but Hawaiian culture is known for BIG portions. These were NOT big portions. In the end I wasn't too upset about even that, because the food was not flavorful and poorly cooked. The brown rice was old and dry, to the point of being crunchy. The teriyaki beef was dry. The shoyu chicken was a little better, but not great. The place is set up like a fast food restaurant so I wasn't expecting much of decor. The tables were sticky. I would tell people not to stick around.

Fabulous lunch spot. Quick. Friendly. The Kahula Pork reminds me of my trip to Hawaii. Delicious! Even a Hawaiian friend of mine thought it was wonderful and authentic.

Likes: Cool decor, relaxed environment, reasonably priced, great mac salad, and juicy kalua pig. Dislikes: Menu was a bit limited. Loco moco is pretty much a staple at most Hawaiian joints (at least in Portland) and it isn't available here. Also, the service seemed pretty lackluster, even when I went in during non-busy hours. As if I were inconveniencing them with my business. Overall, not the best Hawaiian in town (consider Noho's, Bamboo Grove, or 808 Grinds for that) but will most likely hit the spot if you're craving some Hawaiian comfort food.

  • Amy S.

Such a delicious lunch spot. Stay and eat or take to go. All of the options I've tried have been something I would order again. I love their Mac!!

Hawaiian Time is awesome! Pulled pork and steak are both delicious. The mac salad is super yummy (and covered in mayo). This is the ultimate best comfort food in Portland.

I was there at 12:30 and it wasn't supper busy but there were about 6 orders ahead of me but they were terrible on getting the wrong order to me I ordered the #3 with no Mac and they have me the #6 with Mac I ordered it to go and didn't look at it until I walked back my office 4 blocks away I have been there several times since they opened and the service is getting progressively worse I will never go back don't waste your time going there

Okay, let's be honest and say that Hawaiin Time is a terrible name for this place because there is really nothing Hawaiin about the food. Now if you're looking for Teriyaki then you should go to this place. The food is decent and served warm. The best part is that the price is pretty amazing and they can deliver it quickly. This is a frequent lunch spot for me and even the cops go here! So you get a two for one: food and protection from crime for 30 minutes. Not bad.

  • Jenn V.

This is one of my favorite places in the Pearl district. They are always so nice, the food is reliably amazing and they quickly get it to you. Lunchtime is really busy, but that just shows you how good the food is.

3.5 stars (cume) is just about right on this one. If you're expecting full-bore Hawaiian menu ala Bamboo Grove, Pacific Paradise, or Roxy's, et al, you're gonna be full-bore disappointed--- this is little other than a bento hut. That means no Loco Moco, no musubi, no katsu-nothin', no Laua; that means pretty mean ONLY Kalua Pig, and/or Hulu Huli Chicken. No Lomi-Lomi Salmon, no chicken long rice, and DEFINITELY no Saimin or yakisobi noodles. I had so many high hopes for the Hawaiian Time out in Milwaukie, I love that they were drive through, but was similarly flustered by the limited menu. Unfortunately that store closed, but the one down in the Pearl is hangin' tough. The few things they do, they do quite well. I get the 2 meat combo plate, and you can expect a heaping plate of steaming, tender juicy grilled meats, over a bed and scoop o' white rice, and their particularly good, peppery mac salad. The staff @ this Hawaiian Time have been unfailingly prompt and polite, and make all the difference as to whether or not I would return again, now knowing what to expect. These folks manage to bring a little Aloha love and sunshine into your life, even on such dreary, gloomy Portland nights as these....

Went late at night right before they closed. Ended up get the pork and chicken combo. This is pretty classic bento box fair, nothing special. Have to visit this place at least once a year.

I wasn't going to write a review for Hawaiian Time, because I really don't have anything good to say except the guy who took our order was pleasant and nice. We came here because of an "online" deal and it was a convenient location to meet up. The quality of the food is terrible. We had ordered several different plates and not a single person in my group enjoyed it. The chicken and beef were extremely shredded up and overwhelmed by sauce. We ordered several different plates, however-- the Korean beef and the teriyaki beef tasted the same besides the extra sesame on the Korean beef. I would expect the price to be much lower for the quality of food that we paid for. If you're looking for cheap Hawaiian food-- it's definitely cheap, but NOT Hawaiian. Low quality bento is what this place reminds me of... not good.

I know my Hawaiian plate lunches and I think this place is just average and spendy for the portions for good Hawaiian grinds go down to bamboo grove on macadam u will not be disappointed

Hard for me to rate Hawaiian time... I'm lucky enough to go to Hawaii every 45 days or so for work...So when you get to enjoy the real thing all the time it's hard to compare...To me Hawaiian time tastes "americanized". This is not authentic Hawaiian food...Maybe it's because I don't have the pacific ocean stairing me in the face? If you want meat with Hawaiian flavors and some mac salad then hit this place up. Portions are good size, price is OK...Just not the same...When is my next trip? Oh, I leave Monday!

    (3)
  • Misty S.

Solid plate lunches. Reminds me of being in Hawaii, grabbing a plate lunch before I head back to the beach. Only this time, I'm grabbing a plate lunch before I head back to work... Oh well, at least half my story is awesome. The food selection is typical of a Hawaiian plate lunch and you get a big portion... Kalua Pig, Huli-Huli Chicken, Teri Chicken, Beef, Mac Salad, Rice, Veggies, etc... There is some seating available but not much. I typically take my order to go, but I've eaten in a couple times. They also cater, and it's always a hit!

I'm not an authority on Hawaiian food by any means, I've never even visited the islands. But I do love macaroni salads, and their salad is quite yummy. My favorite of all the Hawaiian mac salads I've had around the city. Nothing fancy, just creamy and black peppery, all mixed up with white rice and some of the sauce from the spicy chicken. As other reviews have noted, I also think of this place as more as a teriyaki joint, but that's all right, lunch here still makes me happy.

This new Hawaiian plate-lunch restaurant occupies the space of an old gas station on the outskirts of the Pearl District. Hawaiian standards like Huli-Huli Chicken, Kalua Pig and terriyaki beef sandwiches are offered along with Korean-influenced beef dishes. You get the standard scoop of mac and two scoops or rice with each dish. Noticeably missing from their menu are Katsu, Loco Moco, Lomi Salmon and Hawaiian steak (Spam). The portions here are more down to earth than the astronomical meat portions that you'll find at a typical Hawaiian restaurant. All food is served in a takeout box whether you are dining in or not. The Manua Loa chicken had a definite Korean influence - you can order it as spicy as you want. The Kalua Pig had good texture with a heavily smoked flavor. I'm not a big fan of the Mac Salad as it tastes like mayonnaise mixed with a healthy amount of black pepper. Although not the best Hawaiian food in town, it is a welcome addition to the neighborhood.

This is a great place to get the steak, you can substitute the 3 scoops of rice to 2 scoops rice for extra mac making it 3 scoop Mac marinated with their sauce the best! reminds me of Local boys back home in Corvallis,Or on OSU campus.. the closest thing to that!!!

  • Jennifer L.

This is one of the better hawaiian restaurants I've found in the Portland area. Most are just plain teriyaki joints with little to boast about. The server was really nice and the food was great. Hawaiian macaroni salad always has a certain flavor and consistency and they deliver on that. Portions were good and at a reasonable price. The huli huli chicken is highly recommended. Thought it had a much better flavor than other items. The sauce is one of the better ones as well. I would definitely recommend this place, although dining in could be a bit of a problem if you come in during rush since it's a small spot.

This place has decently tasty "island" food. They're not authentic, but they're also fairly priced with satisfying quantities served. If the food carts are closed, this is where I get my Hawaiian food fix. Plus, there mac salad is prepared perfect for me. The servers could use a little more enthusiasm. The cashiers aren't rude... Although they usually seem severely bored with what they do (which doesn't really bother me but could help the business a little). Overall, I'm glad this restaurant is available for a cheap and quick Hawaiian taste.

  • Geoff K.

I was in a rush and wanted a place where i could grab a quick bite and wasn't a cart. Unfortunately I was in the pearl which has very few of these options. So I decided to give Hawaiian Time a try. I ordered the fairly basic teriyaki chicken with rice and macaroni salad. The chicken was overcooked and the sauce on it was extremely salty. The quality of the chicken was also sub par. The rice was good and the macaroni salad solid but it was hard for any of that to make up for the real low quality, poorly prepared chicken.

I wanted to love but I just couldn't do it. Yelp, you lead me down the wrong path with Hawaiian Time. Honestly, I was only hoping for a decent 3 star experience and it just didn't deliver. I got the Mauna Loa Chicken plate with rice and mac salad. The best part of the dish was the rice, it was cooked perfectly. From there the food went downhill. The mac salad while having an overwhelming amount of pepper had an underwhelming amount of salt and flavor. Easily solved though. My true problem was with the Mauna Loa Chicken. It was dry and it tasted like they cooked it in a pressure cooker without enough liquid. The "sauce" had a burnt characteristic to it and it wasn't the spicy/sweet taste as it advertised. I dosed the plate heavily with teriyaki and cock sauce to mix it up. Even the teriyaki sauce was a little off and tasted like it had molasses in it. ? Perhaps, the portions are large but I'm not excited to eat my leftovers tomorrow as I had planned. Sad.

  • Kimmy K.

It's Hawaiian plate lunch. It's your typical entree with two scoops of rice and a scoop of mac. This always sounds like a good idea to me, but this place isn't. It will get the job done, but it's not anything to write home to the Islands about. I wish I could say more, but nothing sticks out from the times I've eaten there.

This food is good and well priced. My less than full star review is due to a lack a traditional fare. I wanted katsu...

I accidentally got off at the wrong bus stop in NW and decided to hoof it to my destination when I came across this lovely little gem called Hawaiian Times. I stopped in, ordered a Kalua pork plate lunch and called it good. No one there puts on any heirs and you have to go pick up your order even though the seating inside misleads you to think that you will possibly be served by a waitress. I can see where this can be confused with bad service but pay it no mind - you'll immediately be distracted by the decadent meal that comes out to you extremely fast. This plate lunch is the real deal. Ever since I went to Hawaii that one time years ago, I always thought this food was something that could only be enjoyed locally and by the time I flew back and crossed that wild blue ocean to the mainland this thing called a "plate lunch" was all just a dream. Hawaiian Times brought the authentic flavor to my reality here in the Pacific Northwest and I recommend this little place to anyone who wants to get that lovin' feelin' back from visiting (or living on) the islands.

Ever had jerky covered in teriyaki sauce served with rice and over peppered mac salad? Well you can here! I've been to and very, very much enjoyed the food at the Hawaiian Time in Vancouver and came here hoping for much of the same. Unfortunately, this place doesn't even come close to touching its counterpart to the North. As if serving rock hard meat (how do they manage to get it to come out that way!???) isn't bad enough, they even manage to ruin mac salad. Want to replicate the taste at home you say? Well no problem! Follow these easy steps! Step one, insert a spoonful of mayo into a jar of pepper. Step two insert in mouth. Step three, vomit. Plenty of other options for lunch in the pearl, do yourself a favor and chose one.

  • Chelsea A.

It was good. The portions are hearty. The Mac Salad was delicious. I had the Teriyaki Steak (my go to, always) and it was decent. The guy working at the front counter had his ear phones in listening to music while taking our order. Which, I guess if you can do two things at one time is awesome but sorta annoying at the same time. No complaints but I wouldn't make a trek to go eat it. Plus they don't serve booze, which, ya know, sucks.

Fill 'er up with regular please?? What's that, no gasoline.... just really tasty Hawaiian food? Based out of a remodled gas station, Hawaiian Time serves authentic kalua pork and teriyaki dishes with the traditional Hawaiian sides of Mac Salad and rice. H.T. is on my way home from work and I've stopped a handful of times when in a rush or too lazy to cook for myself. Admittedly, I've only had the kalua pork, but my Pavlovian response isn't without merit. The rice is cooked to perfection every time, the mac salad is one of the best I've had from any Hawaiian place (albeit a tad on the peppery side for those of you disliking "au poivre") and the kalau pork is juicy and delicious. Warning, this is not a full service restaurant. You order at the counter, pick it up yourself and bus your own table, but go in with those expectations and you won't be disappointed.

My BF and I had just arrived in Portland after a long day of driving from the coast and shopping and all we could think about was what to have for dinner. After a failed attempt to try and find a food truck, we stumbled upon Hawaiian Time and immediately walked right in. They were closing in 30mins and it looked like they were cleaning up, but they still took our order and let us dine in without feeling rushed. I ordered the Moana Loa chicken and my BF had the Kailua pork and Beef. Everything was so tasty and definitely satisfied our hungry stomachs. It was also a short walk away from the vacation rental we we staying at. We definitely recommend this spot for anyone staying at the Everett Street Studios if they want something filling, affordable, delicious and also walking distance!

I think I figured out what was odd about this place . . . it's just an overgrown food cart. Be that as it may, it was still pretty good. I've had better macaroni salad at other Hawaiian places and the meat wasn't the best quality or cooked perfectly, but the flavor was good and it's a pretty good Hawaiian place close to home. The only other Hawaiian I've had and liked is all the way out in St. Helens, so not having to drive out there is a big plus. I'll definitely want to go back. I do wish they had a size between too small and too big, though! Oh well, I'll just have one meal a day when I want Hawaiian.

Really good food! And healthy too! There is a low carb option to exchange the rice and macaroni salad for grilled vegetables. I did taste the macaroni salad and it was amazing! I also tried my boyfriend's steak and pork and it was heavenly. We'll definitely be going back. I would like to have nutrition facts available for Hawaiian Time though. I asked for them tonight and the gal I talked to told me to go to their Facebook page, but there weren't any there.

I hate to be so negative but man, they really know how to mess up a piece of meat. I ordered the huli huli chicken plate and my husband ordered the teri beef plate. My chicken was a dried, carcass with teriyaki sauce. The mac salad was just ok, if not overly mayo-y. My husband's beef was equally dry and almost got stuck in his throat. I don't think we'll be back.

The best Hawaiian food in DNTN Portland. This place is so cool, they built it into an old gas station. The dinning room is simply some tables with benches, so nothing fancy. The food I would like to say is traditional Hawaiian affair but since I have never been to Hawaii I really don't know. I just know that the Kahlua pig and Teriyaki chicken are amazing with so much flavor. They have some very creamy macaroni salad that comes with your meal, it is a little heavy on the pepper for my taste but otherwise very tasty.

If you don't like hawaiian time then I have no faith in your sense of taste. It's simple you order the mauna loa chicken (#6) and you mix it all together with the rice and mac salad and vvwwwwaaaaa laaaaa you have one of the most delicious plate lunches you can get. nuf said

I'd like to express how happy I am that Hawaiian Time took my Yelp to heart and made major improvements in every area I discussed. They now provide ample napkins and sauces as well as have the option for mac rather than rice. It's impressive to see a business respond to reviews in a proactive manner. Even further, taking a step to improve service. Hawaiian time has done both. We're regulars now at their new location and are happy to say so. Nice work, guys.

I'm a fan. I'm lucky it's only on my way home from work and not around the corner from my house. I'm also lucky my job's really physical. This grub sure ain't health food but it sure is good. I'm usually famished by the time I get off work and bike up here, which is good, cause other wise I'd never be able to slay the combo. I usually get the kalua pork and the huli huli chicken variant. The meat is on a bed of rice and you get an extra scoop of rice and a scoop of mac salad. The mac is SOO good! Sometimes they're out of the pork and I have a sad:-(. They also serve everything on those compostable BUT disposable container thingys. I don't like that. For the quantity of food you get, the price is pretty fair. There's a goodly amount of meat and a whole lot of rice. Rice is pretty cheap though. I'll keep coming back, this place has some right good eats!

Say, "Hawaiian." Ahhhh, thoughts of palm trees swinging in the salty air, people laughing and playing in the waves, surfers to the left, surfers to the right, Mai Tais made perfectly fill my head and I am happy. Hawaiian Time food tastes like Hawaii and makes me happy. If only I can salt water teased hair and a tan from eating it! There are three different sizes the Dakine (plenty of food). The regular (enough food for lunch, dinner and even 4th meal... or you could be Hawaiian and mix it with Spam and egg and have it for brunch). The Alii... I think it is reserved for Samoan football players. Is it the best Hawaiian? Give me a Mai Tai and let's talk :-)

The first thing I did when I moved to Portland about 2 years ago was to find some good Hawaiian food, I tried just about everywhere but nothing could touch what I was accustomed to eating 3 times a week when I lived in Eugene accept Big Kahunas up in Nopo which is just to far away for me to eat at. So... I was super excited when I found out Hawaiian time was opening locations in the Portland area (it is my second favorite sport in Eugene) Its a great place for a quick filling and delicious lunch, my favorite is the #6 Mauna Loa chicken. The only thing keeping it from a 5 star place for a lunch spot is the price, the Da Kine size is to small to fill me up and I find my self getting the medium which is $8. If you like simple plate lunch affair give this place shot. Awesome very simple food, and a great addition for a reasonable lunch spot in the pearl where I find myself struggling for a good quick lunch option every day.

I came by the week they opened. To sum up my experience: -- They ran out of Kalua Pork, that's a big no-no -- Teryaki chiken was not fresh of the grill and it was covered in grease. -- Macaroni salad was OK. -- The meal cost me almost $9. I'll give them one more shot.

    (2)
  • David S.

I go here every week and I've had pretty much everything on the menu, but the mauna loa chicken with white rice is my go-to. Make sure you get it Super Hawaiian style, meaning it comes covered in Thai chiles and an extra-spicy sauce. The staff is awesome and the food is delicious. Not everything on the menu is great but since I get the same thing every time now I could easily eat here every day.

Reminded me a lot of Aloha Mixed plate in Lahaina. Why is everyone complaining about the mac? In Hawaii that's how they make it. I don't like Hawaiian style so I paid the extra dollar for the veggies. Good sized portions, friendly staff, amazing pork, I will be returning.

Just finished my second and hopefully last meal from this place. Tough, dried out, overcooked and over salted meats. I actually liked the peppery mac salad. The last time I also ordered the "grilled vegetables", which was another mistake. Turned out to be some very old looking mix of vegetables, barely warmed through on the flat top. I'm going back to this chain ever again if I can avoid it.

Food was tasty but they got my order wrong. I asked for the plate which included seasonal veggies but did not get any veggies. I was in a hurry so I didn't have time to get it corrected. Willing to try it again.

I don't think this place has done their homework before opening. But maybe it's not to late if they can make some changes. A lot of traditional items missing from the Menu. Where is the Katsu chicken and pork? Those are my favs. Also, I ordered Chicken & Beef Teryi and it tasted nothing like Teriyaki. There was more fat than actual meat. They don't offer a green salad instead of Potato salad. Another thing. If you're going to start a restaurant in the Pearl you have to know people will DEMAND healthy options. I would consider adding white meat chicken to your menu as an option instead of dark. Also brown rice instead of white. Green salad instead of the mayo laden potato salad. The atmosphere is pretty good although I would have to say that the Hawaiian attitude isn't there. At good Hawaiian places you see big friendly Hawaiian people. Didn't see any here.

It's fast, it's declious and the medium #6, $7.95, feeds two. The service is FRIENDLY which I really appreciate! macaroni salad + meat + rice.. holy balls.

Yum. The wait for food can be long. But if you like meat & carbs & flavorful sauces & affordable prices then I think you'll like this. If you don't like those things then we probably can't be friends.

I've given this place right down the street a few tries now and have to concede that it is not worth a visit... Would love to see something succeed in this cool space with a high turn over, but this ain't it!

Ok, not great. I wouldn't recommend this place. Maybe it was the time or day? Or maybe because it was too new? I am going to give this place another shot, for now it's getting 2 stars.

Going to school in Eugene was quite the adventure; mostly bad. However, there were a couple of bright spots and Hawaiian Time was one of them. I'm so glad they made the migration up I-5 and opened up shop in the Pearl District.

Hawaiian Time is awesome. I started going to them in the 90's when they started in Eugene in 24 hour Fitness! The Huli Huli Chicken never disappoints and the mac salad is great. I love Hawaiian Time!

Hawaiian plate lunch joint. Food was pretty good...macaroni salad was awesome...price was a little steep for a Styrofoam container of carbs.

Too little food for too much money! HT is the 3rd lunch spot tried on that same corner, and just like the others, it will fail due to high prices for not so great food.

This is a funky little place that reminds me of a Hilo type place good food, a lot of it. tried two thing pork and one of the chicken dishes. Like them both. very casual.

The five star rating is partly nostalgic and partly just because I love one of Hawaiian Time's dishes more than life itself. First a story... I first experienced HT about 15 years ago when it was just a single, poorly run shop by Autzen Stadium in Eugene. They would regularly run out of ingredients and close for periods of time. The customer service was also ridiculously bad back then. Despite all the negatives, people kept going back for three reasons: the Mauna Loa Chicken, the macaroni salad and the teriyaki sauce. Fast forward past the new owners and new locations and those three things remain at the core of what makes Hawaiian Time great. The other menu items at Hawaiian Time are good, but your experience will not be nearly as awesome as it could be if you don't follow this recipe for success: 1. order the Mauna Loa chicken with an extra scoop of macaroni salad 2. mix the chicken, rice and mac together in the container 3. douse with an extremely liberal amount of teriyaki sauce (the rice should be floating in sweet brown liquid) 4. devour

The food is tasty enough, but they lose a point for lacking variety. It's just meat, rice, and Mac salad. Throw some pineapple or green pepper in their guys, it'll be healthier and tastier. Tables were sticky, staff was friendly, and service was fast.

Delicious. The huli huli is my favorite and the "scoop" portion is generous. Their mac salad is not my absolute favorite but it's still good.

The decor might leave a lot to be desired, and it might look like a gas station from the outside but the food is incredible and authentic. The beef is perfectly seasoned and cooked. The rice is the perfect amount of sticky, and the macaroni salad is fresh and tasty!

WOW! The guy on the phone didn't know anything about the menu! Had no idea if the place served spam musubi or not and didn't know what furikake was. It's seaweed flakes sprinkled on top of the rice! Know your menu! Know your shit! The food is mediocre. I've spent many summers in Hawaii and this food doesn't even compare. Go to 808 Grinds if you're looking for good Hawaiian food.

The reviews were so mixed here; some loved it and some hated it. I decided the only way to know for sure was to try it out myself. On my way out of the office, my boss mentioned that he'd been here once. He enunciated the word "once." I got the Mauna Loa chicken, spicy, as many Yelpers recommended. Sadly, my chicken tasted like it was literally slathered in only Huy Fong Foods Garlic Chili Sauce. You'll know what I'm talking about if you've been to any traditional Asian joint. The kicker? Not much kick, just a mouth full of chili paste and some sliced peppers. The meat itself was very dry/chewy and oddly enough, chopped very inconsistently. Such a weird thing to think, "man, my chicken pieces don't match in size." However it was apparent as some pieces were huge square blocks and others were small strips. They also skimped on the meat portions, I ordered the regular and it seemed like the small size other similar places offer (especially for a Hawaiian joint; a namesake Hawaiian joint). The macaroni salad wasn't flavored very well, all I tasted was mayo and pepper. Our food wasn't awful by any means, however it wasn't worth the $8.95. Especially considering the amount of great eateries within a few blocks. The only thing that Hawaiian Time has going for them, is the fast turn around. We were in and out within 5 minutes, even during lunch rush hour. The service was friendly, too. I'm bummed, as this is two blocks from my work but like my boss, I'll probably never go here again.

WORST PLACE EVER!!! Where do I begin. The overall appearance of the place is so tacky and unsophisticated, it looks like a gas station. The wait staff is for lack of a better word lazy and unaware of how to talk to humans. And finally what kind of restaurant doesn't have an air conditioner? No one likes to be hot and sticky while eating. They might as well tear down the very dirty and disgusting tables they have left and be a fast food joint. Did I mention I had to wipe down my own table just to eat. Frankly if their food didn't taste acceptable that place would have been torn down years ago!

I wanted to try this place for a while, and well...this place was just alright. Reminded me of typical Territory food, not much Hawaiian about it. It wasn't horrible and was satisfying, but there are a lot of other better food options out there. I ordered lunch here since I was at a workshop near by and got a 2-meat combination plate with two different flavors of chicken. My meal looked good, but for $10 I feel like there should have been more meat. The servings were somewhat small. It came out with the meat layered on some brown rice (which tasted and felt sort of dry and low quality) with another scoop of rice and macaroni salad. The salad was well peppered and tasty without anything else in it. It was pretty solid. The meat was very oily and tasted low quality as well. My main concern was I didn't taste much distinction between the two different meats I got. I think one was titled "Volcanic" and it wasn't spicy at all. Overall it felt like fast food quality stuff. It was worth giving a shot, but I don't really recommend this place. Especially for "Hawaiian" food. Maybe I need to explore the menu more though. Any recommendations for some good Hawaiian food anyone?

I really enjoy the food here (tip - sub the rice with lettuce!) , but everything is always SO STICKY!
