Absolutely fantastic experience. Dick is funny and personable, and makes kickass breakfasts. Our room (the Eastlake room) had a private roof deck, and was cozy and clean. The house is gorgeous and well-kept, the garden is beautiful, and the roof deck is stellar. We will definitely be back the next time we visit Portland!

The Georgian House is wonderful! Willie is a gracious, charming and delightful host who is funny, friendly and so very helpful. My husband and I ended up in Portland after our travel plans fell through. When that door closed another opened and we had the fortune of staying at the Georgian House. The home is located in the Irving Historic neighborhood, walking distance from a few restaurants and bars, Pete's coffee, and Wild Oats. It is a lovely neighborhood to take a leisurely stroll or ride a bike. A short drive away is a shopping mall and park with a free stop for the light rail that goes into downtown. We stayed in the East Lake room, a queen bed room which has its own patio and shares a bathroom with the Pettygrove room next to it. Breakfast is basic - scrambled eggs with toast, a cinnamon roll and fresh fruit, blueberry pancakes with a bowl of fresh fruit, etc. If you are looking for a gourmet breakfast, you won't get it here. But for the super affordable price you'll get a very warm and inviting atmosphere and you won't leave hungry!

Willie and the Georgian House are a perfect place to stay in Portland. The house is spotlessly clean, the rooms are comfortable and cozy, and the hostess Willie is always willing to help you find what you need, and fun to talk to. Her breakfasts are wonderful (we had french toast with blueberries grown right in her back yard, homemade jam and syrup, fruit, juice and coffee). The area that the B&B is in is beautiful and quiet but close to shops and about 5 minute drive to downtown. Her prices are a steal--I highly recommend this B&B! You wont do better in Portland.

My wife and I just spent a splendid 3 nights at the Georgian. Smoky air in Spokane drove us to Portland to enjoy the clean, rainy climate and spend a few days with our son. On short notice we found the Georgian and what a stroke of luck. We found a turn of the century home, full of western antiques and old country charm. The home is near downtown but far enough away to deliver that quiet small town atmosphere. Lots to do near by with fantastic eateries and museums. But the best part of the stay was a fine gentleman named Dick. Dick Hall is the owner/proprietor of the Georgian. What a hoot. Dick made our stay so enjoyable. His sense of humor interspersed with local knowledge really helped us design our weekend. AND THE BREAKFASTS!! Every morning a different presentation, all healthy and ample. You must beg him for his pina colada french toast. It is fantastic, and complemented well with either maple syrup, or is soon to be famous blue berry/blackberry preserves made from fruit grown right on the property. The king bed in our room was so comfortable, and once Dick showed this dummy how to work the antique shower, we really enjoyed the full bath just a step from our room. Other rooms had a bath in the room, so there never was a wait to use it. We plan to visit our son in Portland again soon and will be staying at the Georgian again. It beats the high priced busy, crowded hotels with expensive parking all to pieces.

We were on the west coast on vacation for a couple of weeks, and at the last minute called the Georgian House to see if they had any vacancies. We were lucky that 5 minutes earlier, a couple had cut their week long stay short by a couple of days, so we were able to stay in the basement suite. Very nice house in a very nice neighborhood. After reading Bonnie's review, I can only say that our stay at the Georgian House was quite the opposite, at least with regards to the breakfast. Our hostess (Tina?) was very friendly, and went out of her way to suggest local places and things to see. We had homemade pancakes or omelets for breakfast, with a unique local baked bread for toast and homemade preserves made from strawberries and blueberries picked out of the backyard garden. One morning Tina asked if I wanted blueberry pancakes as she was working in the kitchen. When I said I would love some, she handed me a bowl and asked me to go pick my berries. Let me say those were the best pancakes I have ever eaten. The house is well maintained and well decorated. Lots of books and antiques and what-nots all over the house. The house is within walking distance (3/4 mile or so) from some really outstanding local restaurants, and is 2 blocks from the Portland public bus stop. We would love to go back if we are ever back in Portland.

Nice place, well decorated, and in a nice neighborhood. The room rates are much more reasonable than many of the other B&B's. Willie is a great hostess for the house. Each breakfast was incredible and much more than you can eat. I think the only reason that I did not give it 5 stars is that they advertise free WiFi and while that is true, most of the time we could not receive it in the room. But there is a nice common area where it worked fine. Also they advertise Air conditioning. While that is hardly every needed in Portland.... the only AC I saw was a little portable unit in the hallway. Also Willie REALLY likes to talk. We kind of liked it but others may not. We would definitely stay here again.

We booked with this B & B well ahead of time. There is no way to book online, so I booked over the phone and spoke to Dick Canning, the owner. He seemed very nice and mentioned several times that if he was away or "out shopping" we would find the key to the home and the key to our room in the mailbox. Because I didn't have an online reservation, I called about a week before our trip and again received directions on how to enter the home if they were "out shopping." Our reservation was for the Captain Irving Suite, but a few days before our trip, Dick called and said he had made a mistake and that we would have to change rooms in the middle of our stay and move to the Lovejoy Suite. He said that we would get help moving our luggage up the stairs. Well, life is filled with surprises, so no problem. When we arrived. The house was cold and dark. The note with the keys in the mailbox indicated that we were in the Lovejoy Suite, but the key we got was not to that room. The door to our suite was unlocked, and we couldn't lock it because we had the wrong key. Breakfast for the first 3 days was so poor, that we opted out of eating there for the rest of our stay. While the person who "cooked" was very sweet, the meals consisted of frozen waffles drowned in Mrs. Butterworth syrup and chocolate syrup, and very poor coffee (in Portland, the coffee capital!!!). Also on the menu were frozen Costco cinnamon buns and frozen french toast. Not what we expected at all! We never met Dick, since he doesn't live there, just comes to collect the cash & checks one day a week. No, he does not want you to pay with a credit card, so be prepared. The home was very pretty, but has seen better days. There is an air of lost beauty, and a general slightly rundown and dusty feel to the room, although the downstairs is very pretty, if you like artificial flowers, straw hats, and ribbons. The room was ok. The bed was comfortable. But I really didn't feel safe there, given the lack of supervision in the building. There were no fire exits on the second floor, so that was also a concern. Sorry for this pan. I understand that Dick's wife passed away, and that she was the force behind the business. Perhaps it's time for Dick to sell and move on.

We recently stayed at the Georgian House for four nights. Our room - the Eastlake Room - was perfectly comfortable and we enjoyed the use of the private deck outside our bedroom. The house is in a pretty residential neighborhood with many lovely Portland Arts and Crafts style bungalows. The garden out back is very nice. The house is a bit of an orphan and becoming rather shabby at the edges. The deck was quite dirty with old gardening pots in a pile near a green storage tub with a broken lid. The shared bathroom was perfectly clean but towels were not replaced when put in the hamper. While the manager is very friendly, the breakfasts were mediocre at best. Weak coffee (in Portland!), tired fruit cups, and bland eggs were the norm. One morning we were served cheap store bought Danish pastries still in the aluminum pan that they were sold in. I would suggest skipping the house breakfast and walking to any one of the excellent cafes on Broadway or Alberta for a real Portland breakfast. Hot water and coffee was supposed to be available at all times in the dining room. But the one time we tried to get a cup of tea before bed, the water was stone cold. Numerous signs ban guests from going into the kitchen so we could not heat water ourselves. This B&B appears to have been the brainchild and passion of Willie, Dick's wife, who sadly died last year. Dick is now an absentee owner and the personal attention that makes for a memorable B&B stay is lacking. If you no other alternatives, staying here won't ruin your Portland visit but I'd avoid this B&B otherwise.

i stayed at the Georgian House for a couple of days over the Christmas Holiday. it was fantastic. I absolutely loved the neighborhood it is located in. It was nice and quiet and very pleasant to walk around. it was in walking distance to some local restaurants and shops. When I wanted to go downtown, it was quick and easy to take a bus so I didn't have to worry about parking, that was nice. My room was very clean and comfortable. i love the decor at the Georgian. I thought it was tastefully decorated, it felt like home. The breakfast was great. I am on a special diet and the hostess was very considerate of my dietary needs. I thought the owner and the hostess were very nice and they went beyond the call of duty to make my stay there a memorable one. I hope I will get the opportunity to stay there again.

Staying here was something of a last minute decision, but one that I don't regret at all. The room (the LoveJoy suite) was beautiful and cozy, and had a private bath. Our only concern was that the bathroom had glass doors -- even for a very comfortable couple, having a nice solid door between a bedroom and bathroom is a good thing! Besides that, everything was great. We stayed briefly and didn't get to have breakfast (we had to catch a plane), but Willie sweetly packed up a "to go" bag for us and we had sweet rolls and fruit in the car! The hostess, Willie, was very accommodating and sweet, and very gracious. I wish we'd had time to stay longer... The neighborhood itself is astonishing, too. I spent most of the time we were there pretending that we actually lived there. Good thing we didn't stay longer, I guess, or I'd have been out in the garden and tinkering around in the kitchen pretty soon.
