Pretty legit for a hotel bar. Came on a Saturday night and it was pretty cracking. They have a flight of beer for $8 where you can pick four beers from the 10 different types of beer they have to choose from. The staff is super friendly as well.

Located in the Doubletree Hilton which is where we were staying. Nice ambiance. Seat yourself, but we checked before monopolizing a 6-top with only 4 of us. No problem. It was slow, but I think we could have sat there regardless. Ordered a small Caesar. Emphasis on small. No zip to the dressing. Fish tacos. Breaded cod, not my preference, but knew that going in. Disappointing to the point of flavorless. Kids got OJ, fresh squeezed and some fruited lemonade (strawberry?raspberry?) that got a thumbs up. Not much in the way of follow-up from the waitstaff.

A surprising good hotel restaurant and bar in the Portland Doubletree. The lounge is a popular gathering spot for all travelers and includes TVs for sports, full bar service and numerous comfortable tables and booths where weary travelers can relax. The servers are friendly and professional and the food is good, no wonder this is a popular venue in bustling Portland.

Gather Food & Drinks is located in the Doubletree by Hilton. A nice lounge space with a cozy fireplace, a few TVs and a bar - it's a good alternative to the various restaurants in the Lloyd Centre area. My friend and I decided to spend a quiet evening at the hotel. We walked down and no one greeted us. We stood there until a server said to us: "seat yourself anywhere". A sign would be nice. I ordered a Portland Brewery IPA with my meal - the special of the night - rib eye steak with two eggs (done over easy - no option given) and two slice of garlic toast. My friend ordered the dungeness crab mac n cheese and calamari. My rib eye was cooked rare and perfectly seasoned. My only complaint of the meal was the fat that was left on the rib eye and the way the eggs were cooked. My friend's Mac n cheese was good. Cheesy! Calamari was battered with the right amount, but squid size was kinda small. Perhaps a baby? Overall, the place is way better that the other restaurant in the hotel and if you tired and lazy. It's great!

First meal was the burger and fries. Fries were lightly salted with parsley. Despite that, they tasted just like Burger King fries. They had that same sickly oiled flavor. Burger was missing the bacon, although I had asked for no cheese. Lettuce was wilted. While the bun was tasty, the burger fell flat overall. Only the fact that it was made with St. Helens beef was a saving grace. Even then quality was about par with a nearby national chain burger place. I tried again later with the pan seared prime rib. It was OK, but it wasn't great. The gnocchi seemed like it was something pre-made from Costco. There was little flavor in it. The root vegetable mash on the surface sounds like it should have been great but it just fell flat. I also had the breakfast buffet at the restaurant area across the hallway. For the options available, the price was a little steep. The buffet comes with an omelet from the menu which turned out to be made with the type of eggs that are separated in a plant somewhere and then packaged into a milk carton. The buffet options consisted of what I expect from a hotel breakfast. Prepackaged muffins and breads, oatmeal, sad looking fruit, bacon (while the best part of the meal, because it's bacon,) and sausage patties, etc. And lets not forget the orange juice that is from a fountain machine. Two things are obvious here. They're trying, really, to fit meet the quality of food being put out in Portland. Their menu denotes Local, Gluten Free, Vegetarian AND Vegan options. But it's also very apparent that they're buying a few "local" ingredients and then relying on Sysco to bulk out the rest of their kitchen. Taking a good piece of meat and pairing it with three week old vegetables doesn't make the vegetables better, it makes the meat worse. But the biggest problem was a consistent lack of service. For a hotel that hosts conventions almost every day of the year, their processes were incredibly terrible. Their first problem was a lack of staff at the bottom and being top heavy with management types. The second problem is a number of employees who didn't ever seem to be doing any work. I observed that repeatedly, I see one show up, talk to another employee, deliver one or two items to a table, and then I'd never see them again. My first meal was at the bar. Despite sitting directly in front of his primary work space, the bartender didn't ever fill my water glass until near the end of the meal and after I specifically asked. He spent a lot of time "discussing" with another server and a manager the on tap beer options and what to call it in the computer system. It also sounded to me that they were talking about adding a new brand of beer and passing it off as the old one. I hope I was wrong, but I'm pretty sure Portland can taste the difference between beers. The restaurant area was similar. The only person I saw really hustling was the poor girl who's sole job seemed to be to keep the buffet filled. And even then she was failing because there was only one of her. There seemed to be three greeters, but only one of them was doing any work causing there to be a huge line. The other two (possibly managers,) seemed to disappear for long lengths of time. I somehow ended up with two different servers, one who took my initial order and then another who actually served me. Again I had issues getting refills on drinks because all the servers had so many tables to take care of that they couldn't keep up. If they can fix the overall quality of food, and fix the service issues, then Gather can very easily be a four star experience.

I've been here twice now. Once with a large group about two months ago for dinner and just now, all by myself for lunch. When I was here with the large group it took over 30 minutes before they even took our order. We waited an hour to be served. The food was okay. Overpriced, as you would expect at a hotel restaurant, but also just not great. This time staying at the Doubletree I thought I'd give it another try. I was there on a Sunday at 1 pm. It wasn't packed but it wasn't slow either. I was told to sit anywhere. Five minutes later I got a menu and a promise that the server would be back to take my order. Ten minutes later I left, not because it was an absolutely inordinate amount of time to wait but because the longer I sat there the more I thought about how I didn't really want to wait for mediocre overpriced food. There are too many other places to go in walking or tram distance.

Burger=5*. Salmon Po' Boy=1*. the salmon Po Boy was way too light on Salmon and too heavy on Shrimp! Did you run ou of salmon? The burger on the otherhand was quite good and fairly priced d for a good burger at a hotel. the fries are very good with both the burger and Po Boy.

Extremely slow service, FREEZING in the restaurant, food was just ok, not that good. Dry hamburgers.

We're heading to the Portland International Film Festival @ the Regal Lloyd Center across the parking lot from Double Tree which is where Gather is located, EXPECTING to have Mexican food. But . . . the Mexican restaurant is no longer there. Disappointed, we have no other choice but have lunch here! It was crowded, sports & musicians (of some sort) from colleges were staying @ the hotel, but what the heck! Sure, they were expensive, it's a hotel and it's not your neighborhood fast & carry restaurant, it's where you mingle, hang out with your friends, take it easy have a drink. . . . I wasn't sure what to order $15 for LUNCH? I have to make a choice we have 1hr. before our shift, so I ordered the Wild Columbia River Salmon. House greens, butternut squash, roasted beets, roasted cauliflower, green goddess. If I ate everything on my plate, it's just perfect and not a single crumb left! It must be GOOD. Hubby ordered Fish & Chips. Coastal cod, rogue ale batter, house tarter sauce. I enjoyed hubby's Fresh fries, too! He also likes his meal. (Photos on my profile). I started timing them, that way I can mention how long we have to wait, even though they were busy! Took exactly 15 mins. We've waited much longer, in other restaurants. So, I'm giving them 5 stars. BTW: instead of parking on the streets, park here, they will validate your parking for 2hrs.

We stayed here at the Double Tree or rather are staying here for a long weekend. We get around... The setting was casual n nice. We found a seating area with nearby plugs to feed our phones and set about noshing. Burger was decent although ciabatta bread can be tough. Awesome burger n pomme fritas...the sweet potato tots were tooooo sweet. The Genesis Cabernet was a nice change. Our server was perfectly attentive.

One of the better restaurant within a hotel I've been. Convenient and reasonable too.

This is located inside the double tree portland. I sat here to use the Wifi and had a soda. I chatted with the bartender about food and our portland trip. The meals that were coming out looked awesome. It is a small place, however, for what it was inside a hotel I was decently impressed. Prices on the menu were decent.

Pretty sweet, limited not full, little bar. Nice ambiance to it. They have afternoon happy hour which is great! It's connected to the double tree by Hilton if you're wanting a drink or some food late night . Or afternoon. Joel the bartender is great!

I sat at the bar and the bartender seemed less than enthused to be there. I ordered a tomato bisque that tasted like a marinara sauce, I asked to trade it for a minestrone and he simply took it and brought me the minestrone without even saying sorry. For the record the minestrone wasn't much better. Needless to say, I would chose another restaurant/bar if you are in the area.

I've been working in the Lloyd district for decades - I actually park in the Double Tree parking lot, so I've spent a lot of time in the hotel lobby, where everyone knows my name. That's really the trick to successfully navigating the lobby - make friends. You see, most of those people have worked in that lobby longer than the average Yelper has been alive. And they must have one hell of a big fat pinko union in there because the service has always been slow, the food marginal, and the drinks strong. So yeah, it's true that these guys don't run like the German rail system - hell they don't run like Amtrak! But they're friendly and call me by my first name. "Hey Bob, anytime time this month - okay?" "F@%k Y&^ Doug", Bob said. What are you going to do -right? I mean, Bobs family - right? So I know what you're thinking: It's a hotel - right? People don't spend decades in a hotel making friends with the staff, so how is this going to work? Well, it doesn't. People blowing through town expecting world class service in the Double Tree lobby are going to go home pissed off. Me, I don't expect much, and brother, they deliver.

After a long day of travel and shopping, we ate at Gather Food & Drinks in the Double Tree at Lloyd Center. We ordered wings, gnocci, and fish tacos. The gnocci was the star at only $5, followed by the fish tacos. The wings were not so great, we told the server, and he offered to get us something else. The service was a little slow, but the servers were friendly..

I came here for a late night dinner, and it's a great place to eat for a hotel. They had a good extensive menu especially for late night eaters/snackers. We got their sweet potato tater tots which were served with a delicious melted cheese sauce- SO good!!! We demolished those. I also got their grilled cheese- delicious, melted good cheese thick between fresh, toasted bread served with a good bowl of tomato soup. Their burger was really good and unique too- moist meat on a crispy bun with a good ailoi and unique toppings!! The only thing I didn't like was their butternut squash macaroni and cheese which tasted like a heavy cinnamon cream sauce on radiator pasta- not cheesy at all and not really mac and cheese!

The drinks are terrific but the food is even better! I came in last night hungry and tired, and got a fabulous cocktail (Bombay sapphire cosmo with muddled lime and Cointreau) and grilled cheese sandwich with tomato bisque - truly wonderful upscale comfort food. And the Caesar salad was excellent too! The staff are terrific! I would definitely eat here again if I have the chance!

Gross. I was at a seminar last weekend at the Doubletree Hotel and I had lunch here both days. The first time might have received 3 stars but the second day was so horrible I cannot possibly even consider suggesting the possibility that anyone waste a dime of their money here. The first day I had a sore throat so I sat at the bar and ordered a Hot Toddy. The bartender was very busy so I forgave the slow service. The tomato bisque was more than adequate (even good) and the Hot Toddy tasted sweet and lovely but the bar tender had dripped honey all down the side of my glass and served it to me sticky; like, honey dripping down 1/3 of the rim sticky. She was busy and very nice so I let it go. The next day my honey met me on my lunch break. I ordered the carnitas sandwich with sweet potato tater tots and a vodka on the rocks. The meat was no less than 70% fat. It was inedible. The bottom bread on the sandwich was so fat-saturated that it fell apart and we could not pick it up. The tater tots were bland; not even salted. My dude ordered fish tacos; they were burnt and fishy. Really, really fishy. I showed the waitress who didn't give a rat's ass, so I asked to speak to the manager. Then I asked her to exchange the drink she delivered for the one I actually ordered. After flagging her down. That took 10 minutes. After about 15 minutes, still staring at my plate of fat, I asked her if the manager was going to visit us. She said she would see if he was around; she hadn't tried to track him down when we initially asked. He came, apologized our meal wasn't up to par, did not clear our plates, took the sandwich and tacos off the bill, adjusting our bill to pay for the tots and went about his business. He didn't ask us if we needed anything else. We did decide to order the BLT. It was fine. Creatively, it included prosciutto and fried green tomatoes and it sounded delicious. It was extremely bland and would receive a 2 1/2-3 star rating it it stood alone outside of the crappy service. The place is overpriced, the help was indifferent, and the food was inedible. Save your money. You'd be better off at a crappy fast food chain.

For the price - it really doesn't get any better. I stayed at the double tree on a work trip and wanted a quiet place to work over some eats. I thought about running in the other direction when I saw the crowd at Gather, and heard their roar throughout the hotel lobby. However, the menu pulled me in. I tried two things - and I am considering coming back every evening of my stay to repeat. The Salmon Salad was perfect. I am typically weary of ordering anything with salmon. I am from Seattle and I love sushi - and very, very fresh salmon. I am not a fan of salmon on anything. I like it by itself, gently seared - or raw. But I am trying to be healthy so I went for it. My lovely waiter gave it his personal thumbs up, so that helped solidify my decision. It was perfect. I may ask for the dressing on the side the next time around, but that would merely be a health choice, not a flavor choice. The salmon was perfectly seared. Warm all the way through and and the salad was a perfect mixture of arugula, spinach, radish, and asparagus - tossed with green goddess dressing. Yum. I was perfectly satisfied after eating this, but couldn't defeat the call of the sweet potato tots - with a lovely cheese dip that I would have never paired with the perfect little bites of sweetness. Top this all off with a local Amber beer (Rogue Dead Guy), and I was one happy girl. Nicely done, Gather. Way to give a hotel restaurant some flair and flavor. I will savor these tots until I can no longer bare to bite. See you tomorrow!

Gather is an extension of the Doubletree lobby, with any barrier walls from previous incarnations removed. This makes for a friendly, casual, flow-through kind of feeling. I found it better than most hotel-lobby bars I've been to ... but it's still a lobby bar. Since the hotel features a large amount of meeting space, I noted they had a private room tucked in the corner. If you need that, it's there. If you don't, enjoy people-watching from the main space, or curling up in front of the faux fireplace. Their creative, local-flavor cocktails were the highlight of our visits, though the crowning achievement was the fresh berry tart. It's misnamed. It's a rich, dark chocolate tart, topped with fresh berries. On a plate drizzled with caramel. My original plan to share with my partner turned into a "get your own!" on first bite.

This place has been open for what... two or three years now, in a food crazed town, in a very busy hotel, where it did a Groupon offer, and yet it has only 10 reviews, none higher than three stars. Would you like to know why? Cuz it was Mehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

Went here for lunch during a conference at the Doubletree and was pleasantly surprised by the tasty fish & chips meal I had for a decent price. Food was discounted because I was a conference attendee, though I did have to ask the server for the discount, she would have charged me full price if I had not looked at my ticket carefully. I was not very impressed with the number of staff they had working when there were two large conferences going at the same time in that hotel. I would have figured that there'd be a ton of staff, but it seemed lightly staffed, and a lot of people had to wait a while for food and seating.

The restaurant's name is very fitting. Very cozy and welcoming, yet a little loud for my taste. There is no host, so it took me a few seconds to figure out I had to seat myself. I had the butternut squash soup (which was just ok), the black sea salt scallops, and the pear cinnamon creme brûlée which was my favorite out of all three. Service was somewhat slow, but friendly. It would have been better if the dining area was a little more spaced from the bar (there were some really loud, obnoxious drunk people). Also thought this was an independent restaurant - had no idea it was in the Doubletree hotel.

Really? $12 for a vodka-cranberry? Granted, I ordered a double, but it was well and came in a tumbler, not a pint. No, I didn't expect it to be $3.50, but 12 bucks? Seriously? What's your well vodka made out of, distilled unicorn tears? Three stars simply because it seems unfair to give fewer on such a small sampling of their fare; I certainly didn't order anything else that would allow them to redeem themselves.

I had an unsettling feeling as soon as we sat down. I knew it was in a hotel, but I didn't realize it was so ... "hotel bar-ish". Our waitress, a Reese Witherspoon lookalike, greets us and is genuinely surprised when we ask for menus. Uh-oh. We ask if there is any restrictions on what we can get with our Groupon - and she says she doesn't know, can she read our Groupon and then she'll tell us? Uh-oh. So we order... and wait.. and wait... 33 minutes have gone by, and Reese Witherspoon is wandering around aimlessly... and we haven't seen our appetizer or salad yet. Then another server brings out a burger to a table that had been waiting maybe 10 minutes. That's when the bf sees Reese running to the kitchen (obviously the burger triggered her memory of our existence?), and she returns with our salad and salmon together. She says she doesn't know why our calamari hasn't arrived, she'll go check on it... but no, never comes back. After we are finished I get up and find her to get our check, asking her to just take the calamari off the bill. She replies, "Oh, I did, I did." I explain to her what she needs in order to process a groupon app and she brings us the check... and says... "Please don't tip me." We did, of course, but the whole experience was a little ... surreal. Ms. Witherspoon was very nice and at least she knew how bad the service was, but I enjoyed this restaurant about as much as I enjoyed watching Legally Blonde 2. If Gather wants to have any customers besides weary businessmen, they REALLY need to do a better job of training their employees. Don't put out a groupon and then not teach your servers how to deal with them. Oh... and how was the food, you ask? Completely forgettable. Not bad, just ... forgettable. (For the record, apparently the kitchen at Gather was closed, so we actually were eating food made at the restaurant next door inside the hotel). And we had to stop and eat somewhere else because my bf was still hungry.

My first 20 minutes at Gather, I received one flat draft beer and a menu. And then, ignored. Other parties arrived, orders were taken, food and drinks were served, while my untouched beer sat looking for all the world like a large glass of apple juice and my imploring stares were dutifully met with no eye contact. Did I forget to turn off my cloaking device? Was the waitress mortified that she had served a beer that clearly was deceased and her shame rendered her unable to even look in my direction? Eventually a different server took over my section and I became visible again; the flat beer was hauled away and one with actual bubbles brought. I ordered some calamari on happy hour and it was good, not stellar. The happy hour pricing didn't set new marks for value. While I wouldn't chase anybody away from Gather if they were staying in the Doubletree, I can't think of any reason I'd go back.

I stayed at the Doubletree for four nights, and I had the chance to try a bunch of different things during the happy hour specials. The burger and fries here are super good, and a really good deal if you go at happy hour when the food is half off (M-F 4-6pm). I also tried the scallops, and they weren't bad, especially for "hotel food." One was cooked perfectly, one was underdone, and one was overdone. Scallops three ways? My boyfriend also tried the sweet potato tater-tots that come with a cheese sauce, and they were tasty, probably not house made and frozen from a package. We always experienced super amazing service. Never a long wait, or an unfilled water glass (or beer or wine glass either for that matter). Definitely try it while staying at the hotel, but I doubt would go out of my way for it again.

I liked Eduardo's (previous restaurant) just fine, but Gather is AMAZING! The unique menu and ambiance get you reved up for a great meal, and there's absolutely no let-down here. The only advice I can give when ordering is to leave room for dessert. It's hard not to gorge yourself on affordable apps, but their desserts are to DIE for! Definitely coming back with friends and family in the future.

Two soups - tomato bisque & a corn/salmon chowder. Cup is $5/both taste like they came out of a can. The corn chowder is like creamed corn with a dollop of something fish on top. Next item on menu is $9. Wouldn't take the chance.

Happy hour review: an absolute steal, hidden in a generic Lloyd Center Doubletree Hotel. After a remodel, Gather replaced a long-standing Mexican restaurant. It's aims are to source locally and sustainably whenever possible. I had the burger and pomme frites for $6. The burger is Painted Hills beef on a Marsee Bakery ciabatta roll with four-year-aged cheddar, bacon, bibb lettuce, and aioli. The fries are tossed with sel gris. What a tasty happy hour treat. Draft beers, house wines, and margaritas are $3.50. Happy hour is 4-6. Hop off the max at the 11th Ave stop and pop in.

Went to this brand new restaurant bar in the Doubletree. It was late and I was starving. I seated myself at a table and noticed that there were several other people eating and drinking. So far so good. The place was nicely decorated, but a little dark. I arrived close to 9:45PM and was warned that if I placed an order soon I can order off the full menu, but after 10PM there is a limited menu serving until midnight. I ordered the roasted chicken dinner and heirloom tomato/mozzarella salad. The portions were generous. But the roasted half chicken was nicely cooked and tasted fine. The mushy corn stuff with mushrooms all over the plate and the cauliflower was not good. The tomatoes on the salad were mushy. I did like the bread (olives were in it) It came with a spread of butter on one side and this sour tasting cheese on the other. I wished the place wasn't so dark or I would have passed on the cheese. Ordered a glass of wine and it took FOREVER for me to get it. The service was really slow. I even asked my server if she was the only person on duty and she was not. What gives??? I hope this place powers through the hiccups.
