My family LOVES this cafe. I've been in Portland for about 5 years now and this is hands-down my favorite. They serve Stumptown coffee and make it really well. Their deserts are excellent. My wife loves there gelato. My daughter loves their chicken soup. But what really does it for me is their sandwiches. They have some of the best cafe food I've found. Try their Korean Beef sandwich- its totally amazing. The atmosphere is also perfect- quirky and relaxed. Its a great place to go to get some work done (free wifi). The only down side is they're closed Sundays which is a bummer. Check them out!

Mocha is one of the best I had in a while.

This is probably my new favorite place to work. The food is good and the desserts better. Free wifi and soft jazz playing in the background.

stopped in to use the free WiFi for awhile... Tried the Bread Pudding which I understand is made with their croissants instead of just day old bread. Fantastic! I've never had bread pudding that tasted like this. Rich but still light and fluffy. A real treat.

A fantastic new addition to the West Slope area. The kind of coffee shop with a nice relaxed lounge area to sit with friends and enjoy a cup of coffee. Their menu includes the usual coffee and espresso drinks as well as pastries and sandwiches. I finally tried their reuben sandwich that gained high remarks from other yelpers and it is well worth the praise. Pastry-wise their opera cake was delicious, but their cupcakes were a bit on the dry side. In their defense, it was the end of the day so I'm sure it's just that they were made in the morning and dried out as the day went on. Overall, a great place to come to on a rainy day and enjoy a book (or fill out a yelp review).

Been frequenting Emilie Dessert Cafe for a week or two now, and decided I had to yelp. I like to do some of my laptop friendly work while at cafes because the atmosphere helps me focus. Emilie is perfect for that. I've never gone in to find the place packed with no where to sit (happens to me at Ava), and there seem to be sufficient outlets too. They brew Stumptown, and even brew decaf all day long! If you are a decaf drinker like me, this is awesome news (not a fan of Americanos). Coffee refills are only 50c, and they have a whole assortment of baked goodies, and sandwiches. I've yet to eat anything, but everything looked top notch. The place has a classy feel to it, and jazz music seems standard. Very nice. The workers all seem very nice and happy too. You honestly couldn't do better in my opinion. Thanks! p.s. Free wifi

Great food and drinks, and the barista/baker named Eileen was a treat as well! I highly recommend this place if you're in the area.

I was in the area so I stopped in here to use the free wifi and get some dessert. I eyed the dessert case and knew exactly what I wanted, the gianduja. I didn't even have to look at the others because hazelnut is one of my favorite dessert flavors. In the end, I was really disappointed. The top was pretty good, but the bottom was incredibly hard and overall lacking a hazelnut taste. It just didn't seem to be very well made either. The service was great and the lunch and espresso options seemed to be popular. I would give them another shot, but only if I happened to be in the area again. I definitely wouldn't seek it out.

Attention, West Slope/Beaverton denizens. Finally, we have a winner at the corner of 87th Ave and Canyon Rd. Seeking an after dinner treat, we headed over to the newly opened Emilie Cafe. Oasis in the desert: The food: -subtle and simple desserts crafted in the traditional European style. Tried the amaretti cookies and a slice of the mocha espresso cake. -serve Stumptown coffee -a smorgasbord of breakfast and lunch items priced reasonably. The ambiance: - Open, clean, bright - Many seating options (ones for spreading out your laptop + study materials; a kid's coloring table; a sofa for reading books) - Nice windows lookout to enjoy the sun. The service: - Each dessert was hand plated and walked out to your table. - The staff had opinions about the menu items! "Try this if you crave sweet or this if you're feeling like fruit" - Free WiFi Room for improvement: - Use compost friendly, smaller togo/takeaway containers! Go out and support this local business, family owned and operated! We'll be back.

I cannot say enough great things about this place! The staff is fantastic, always nice and friendly. The ambiance is idyllic and has cute and fun decor. You can just sit and relax without feeling rushed. Two words...Almond croissants!!!! Emilie's makes the best almond croissants around. Absolutely delicious. They are tasty, moist, not too sweet. I've tried croissants from all over (including Saint Honore Bakery) and Emilie's are just hands down better. Definitely come try this place if you're looking for delicious desserts and a nice low-key place to hang out for a pleasant afternoon treat!

Amazing, amazing, amazing. This place is hidden half way down Canyon Road, but is still close enough to Portland and Beaverton that ANYBODY who appreciates sublime, handcrafted desserts should be there in a shot! I believe the owner is Korean and a trained pastry chef, and it makes sense that she would branch out on her own in a cheaper area like this. Again, forget the location and come on down, now... The cafe has been extremely tastefully decorated, with a classy yet comfortable ambience and is a really relaxing spot to enjoy a coffee and a desert or sandwich. The desserts.... Oh my... The desserts are freaking amazing. Handcrafted, beautiful, delicate and sometimes unique. My picks so far: Hazelnut Bomb - call ahead to see if she has any in, if not she may well make some more for you. (the service is great here...) This is a chocolate ball of supremely velvety hazelnut mousey goodness over a tasty crunchy crust of... Something delicious. Otherworldly... EmilIes Favorite - This is a distant relative of a chocolate cake, encased by a chocolate shell with some kind of raspberry filling inside. Soooo good. Bread Pudding - the wife just described it as 'borderline excellent' which for her is superlative praise... The lemon cake is great, and there was another desert I can't remember fully from a few months ago that was awesome and reminded me of a British Trifle - it was spongey, had strawberries, and... Er, made me very happy as I recall. If you like desserts and you care enough to be checking out yelp, TRY THIS PLACE! We need them to stay in business! Oh, the Korean beef sandwich is pretty cool too.

I have been going here often since my last review. I also have been trying to convince my parents to come with my wife and I. Last Friday they finally said they would come so we all packed up into the car and drove down here. The lights were on and there were a lot of people there it was 8:30 and the sign outside said they were open Mon - Sat till 9pm. We walked in and were told that they had already closed at 8:30 "So Sorry" and that was that. Needless to say it was probably the worst night that this could have happened, we were embarrassed and ended up having to go home empty-handed. This was something i would have never expected to happen at a place like this. We will not be returning.

Rich coffee, delicate and delicious pastries, a warm place to relax. I soooo want this place to succeed. But I'm afraid it's like a rose growing through crab grass. If the car dealerships on Canyon Road don't dissuade people from stopping, the strip clubs might. I worry that there's not enough foot traffic to sustain it. So those of use who prefer a nice coffee shop to another Pussycats, we'll have to make special visits to support the 'hood.

Fabuluous is a word to describe what Emilie Cafe has to offer. I tried many of their items: coffee, sandwhich, and desserts. Let's review the coffee for now. The coffee is cheap compared to other cafes (at 3.00 for a 16 oz).I tried their mocha and vanilla latte. The coffee is strong, stumptown strong. According to the owner, Emilie cafe puts more shots into its coffee (3 shots for medium, 4 shots for large). So, if you need your caffeine, this is definitely your place. The mocha has rich chocolate aftertaste. Though it takes me by surprise, it is a pleasant and comforting. The latte is even better. Remember the diluted overly sweet starbucks latte, this is not it. The sweetness is perfectly balanced with the coffee and milk. Try it! You won't be disappointed. Let's get to the sandwhich. They have many sandwhich. My sister tried the egg salad and she keeps nagging me to try it. I stay true to my asianness :) and try the Korean Beef. Wow, it is definitely unique. It is spicy like the spicy dish at Korean restaurant topped with creamy sauce and kimchee (Yes, pickled cabbage). The kimchee definitely takes this sandwhich to another level. It hits my palate deeply. So, try it soon! I will definitely try the rest of the sandwhich and add it to this review. Finally, it is the dessert. They have many different kind and they are affordable. Let's talk about my favorite, the bread pudding. Served warm, the bread pudding is simply delicious. It is rich and not overly sweet. The chocolate strikes a tone on the bread pudding while the raisin adds a fruity sweetness. I don't know how to describe it any other way than delicious.

Friendly staff. Excellent service and superb pastry at a reasonable price! Nicely decorated interior and definitely a good place to chill and hangout.

Had been here a few times previously and was generally pleased with their coffee and pastries. I arrived when they opened recently one morning and got a coffee and almond croissant to go. Expecting to bite into a fresh, flaky croissant, I was extremely disappointed. It was clearly a day old. This is REALLY bad practice. If you sell the day olds let the customer know and charge 1/2 price. Needless to say I will not be returning.

We stumbled upon this local gem after randomly hanging left off Canyon Road for an estate sale. Although navigating entrance to the parking lot can be tricky, persistence will be rewarded! Emilie's was a breath of fresh air. We were welcomed by friendly staff (possibly Emilie herself), and were immediately struck by the charming ambiance. The highly recommended cookie was indeed delicious, and the Stumptown coffee was of course divine. But above all, it was the small details that made Emilie's stand out - an adorable arrangement of tiny succulents on the table and comfortable furniture made for spending the afternoon with laptop or good book in tow. We'll definitely be back to explore the free wi-fi.

New to the neighborhood so stopped in to have a look see. First impression is that they need to clean their glass windows and doors. Filthy greasy finger prints and smudges straight away made me feel like no one was paying attention to detail. Looking at menu I thought "average " and none of the pastries looked inviting. Gal behind counter barely looked up so I turned around and walked out. Period. Keep exploring.

I had the best croissant sandwich ever here. Ever. I would like to eat that sandwich every day if I could. As my boyfriend said, it was only a dollar or so more than a McDonald's breakfast sandwich, but a million times better. I gave it only four stars because the mocha I ordered was WAY too sweet.

The Best Rueben EVER! Balance, Hot, WONDERFUL. 3 napkins worthy...mmmmmmmmmm I have been addicted to their BLT Wraps for weeks but.... I may have found a new Vice... ;) And STUMPTOWN Coffee.... I am in Heaven.....

  • Claudio M.

The pastries are seriously good. The sandwiches are filling but not something I'd go out of my way to chow on. But the pastries and cookies (especially anything almond flavored) are especially good. I would go out of my way for those.

Place looked warm and inviting. But croissant was stale. Other pastry was below average. We did take out dessert close to closing time so were cheated on this transaction.

I love this place!!! I go in every morning for coffee. Great service and always wonderful fresh pasterys! I've ordered plenty of sandwich's and have never been disappointed. Their marble rye is to die for! I could go on and on for days about how happy I'm to have them in the neighborhood. They have plenty of seating and a great kids area. Comfy couches and WiFi! What more do you need from a great coffee shop?

Very good pastries and breakfast sandwiches. A great place to walk to on a weekend morning. Raleigh Parkers: We have to support this business! This is the only decent latte for miles.

For me, Emilie is a cute - quaint cafe that serves yummy food/snacks in the form of sandwiches, pastries and homemade sorbet. I wish they open near my work place so I can get more time exploring their selection of sandwiches. Their Reuben sandwich is great (my absolute favorite so far) and their Korean Beef sandwich is a taste of yumminess with a slight spicy kick. As for desserts, I must say, for all chocolate lovers out there, you'd be in absolute bliss when you try their chocolate truffle cake. Eat it with the combination of the Green Envy tea and you'd have the perfect tea time snack or dessert. I also like their homemade coconut sorbet that is served with fresh fruits. It's really refreshing to eat it especially for these days when it's so hot out and hey, I got at least one of my daily serving of fruits while enjoying it!! Finally, another dessert place worth mentioning... delicious, decent priced with lots of free parking too (around the corner of the complex)!!

If we weren't staying with relatives up the street, we probably wouldn't have come across this cafe. I'm surprised at their location - it's surrounded by mostly residential homes on the corner of an intersection, and it looks rather sad and worn down out front, so it was a delight to walk in and find some rather fancy pastries offered. All are made on site as well and very fresh. Tried their almond croissant, almond financier (very moist cupcake-like treat) and had the house coffee which was also very good. Sad we didn't discover this place sooner. On our last day in Portland (Sunday), we wanted to go and grab breakfast before heading to the airport, but they were closed on Sunday. Will definitely make a point to come by again the next time we're in this area.

Had a late lunch today and it was wonderful. The new noodles with wontons on the menu were quite tasty and the strawberry cake was a perfect treat. Smoothies were also great on a hot day. The cook came out to chat. Very nice. We will be back for sure.

Come early or the desserts will be gone! Wenny makes amazing, mouthwatering desserts to perfection. The selection varies - on the day I visited, I tried the chocolate mousse and the black forest cake. Amazin'! It's a great place to hang out with friends for coffee and desserts - it's out of the way enough that it's not too busy on weekend! Quality: 5 Service: 4 Cost: 4

I needed a quick bite before a meeting on this busy street which has slim pickings. Luckily Emilie was found. The counter person, who's name I'm sorry I did not get, was super sweet, helpful, and courteous. She whipped up an egg and bacon for me, was sensitive to my food preferences, was quick, and even gave me some great leads on other eateries she thought I would enjoy. Though I don't live nearby, I can't say I'll be able to frequent the cafe very often, but I am happy to spread the word. Good service is rarer and rarer these days.

What a wonderful find! I first had an amaretti they sell at uwajimaya. Had to find the bakery. They are exceptional. Other pastries great. They have sandwiches and espresso too. Looks are deceiving. Try this!!!

Pricey food and desserts but everything tastes delicious or at least decent. The air conditioning is weak so it's quite uncomfortable during the summertime indoors.

    (3)
  • Amy L.

I highly recommend their cookies. Tried several other dessert items. They were ok. Fruit tart was cold and the pastry shell was hard as a rock and quite bland. Chocolate Crossiant: I can get the same thing at Safeway Chocolate Eclair: Very hard and tasteless, it doesn't taste like cream.....I don't know what they used instead of cream...... Prices were on par with popular French bakeries in town but tastewise and quality was not.

  • Tiff M.

This place is pretty good. I feel, that there are some simple marketing changes that could really uplift this business. First off, take dessert out of the name. This place has great breakfast and lunch options that I almost overlooked as I was not looking for dessert. Secondly, plant some shrubbery out front to add privacy to the outdoor tables. You want the exterior to match the quaint interior. All in all good food, good coffee, good service. I'll probably be back.

  • Andy L.

I live right down the street from this place, and I went there at my family's behest. The location is awful, let's get that out there right away. Getting in and out of the parking lot is a damn nightmare, especially in heavy traffic. But that's a minor quibble, especially once you go inside. The coffee is good, but it's basically the same thing you'll find at any other coffee shop. It's nothing special. What you'll really be coming here for is the desserts. There's a large glass display filled with homemade deserts from lemon bars to eclairs, and every one of them tastes as good as it looks. It's a little pricey, but definitely worth the cost. The staff is usually courteous and friendly, though occasionally I'll go in there and be greeted by a curt young woman who seems to be annoyed by the world, though she's certainly not unpleasant, my previous interactions with much more agreeable staff made this interaction rather jarring. In summary: Typical coffeehouse atmosphere (dark, kind of homey); nightmare to get in and out of; forgettable but enjoyable coffee; and absolutely amazing homemade desserts and foods that will have you returning time and again, even if it's a little pricey.

I am not a big fan of sweets but after being tasked to buy a last minute birthday cake for my aunt I was able to find this adorable bakery/cafe. They didn't have full cakes off the bat but the owner was able to let me sample a piece of the strawberry cake and it was amazing! After telling her that I needed the cake same day the owner was able to work with what she had to compile a beautiful cake with the mini strawberry cakes she had left. I can tell you that I will be back for more cakes!

These guys make a great dry cappuccino. Amazingly good and not a drop of milk touches my espresso. They have a case full of house made desserts and pastries that tempt me every time I go there, and they are a very sweet family run operation. The Cesar Chicken Wrap is a must-try, as are the napoleons....

  • Brandon T.

I called ahead to see if they had almond pastries and the lady on the phone said that they did not. She then asked how many I needed and I said two. She then said "stop by in 10-15 minutes and I'll have a new batch ready for you". This is what I call amazing, over the top, simply spectacular service. The place itself is very relaxing to be in and the staff couldn't be any more kind. As for my order, the almond pastries were the best I've ever had. As the terminator once said, "I'll be back."

Well finally a place that I can call home!! The meal I had couple days ago here was fantastic! Very authentic Indonesian food, not much of choices for Indo food they only have 4 or 5 Indonesian food on the menu daily but the food was fantastic! I ordered mie ayam/Indonesian chicken noodle. I want to try their tiramisu as well next time. The place is small but comfortable, cheap and the owner is fantastic!!! I will return!

3 stars because the weird schedules mean I don't really get to try most of what they offer. Coffee and staff are good, but now I only stop here when pressed for time and only for the coffee. They have an odd business setup for a cafe-style coffee shop. They don't serve breakfast until after 10am - I hear people try and order food before then at least every other time I am here. Only option seems to be very sweet desserts. They could likely double their business if they just paid someone to make food in the mornings. They also advertise for Indonesian dishes, which I would love to try, but they are only offered three days a week and only after lunch time. So strange. They have good seating and it is quiet (usually empty), so it is comfortable as long as you are there for the right thing at the right time

  • Jasmyn M.

One star is pretty low but I really have nothing nice to say about this place. I've been here twice. Once to pick up a few birthday treats for a coworker. Five cakes/pastries = over $25! What? Item quality was suboptimal. Had that cold, fridge taste to them. I bought them around 10am and expected them to be fresh but they seemed stale. Second visit was because I heard they make breakfast sandwiches. Place opens at 7, arrived at 8 and requested a breakfast sandwich only to be informed "We do not start cooking until 10am." So, despite offering BREAKFAST sandos on the menu one can't actually order it until it is practically LUNCH. Needless to say I walked out.

I have lived by this place for 2 years and never went in until today. I had the Korean beef sandwich and it was amazing. The only problem was the burn grilled cheese for my daughter. Everything else was amazing. I am for sure going back.

Emilies Dessert Cafe is a very popular mainstay in my neighborhood in West Slope. Its in an old kind of rundown building and the space has been home to many failed restaurants but Emilies has been in operation for about three years and its always full of customers. I love Emilies because the proprietress, Winnie, is SUCH a great cook and baker. She bakes home made Scottish short bread type desserts and makes GREAT Won Ton Soup. She's also started making some traditional Asian noodle and rice dinners that are really top notch. She uses all natural products and nothing is store bought or manufactured. Her sandwiches are superb and so are all the coffee drinks. I frankly, can't say enough about this little cafe. Its become a very popular local cafe where people go and meet, and use the Wi Fi. Its always busy, every season and she's started keeping later hours too. Excellent food, wonderful, homey atmosphere and great coffee.

I drove over here a few days before Valentine's Day hoping to pick up a few dessert items but their selection was abysmal. I first went on their website to check out what kind of small cakes they offered and there were a few interesting ones on there. But when I arrived at the store, there were only 5 of those menu items available, a quarter of what was featured on their menu, none of which sounded particularly appealing. And there was no indication online or on their menu that these selections wouldn't be available at the store. I can understand being out of a few things because the inventory sold out, but man, what a waste of a trip. In addition, I had to wait a few minutes after walking in for someone to come from the back to help me, and when they did, I was received with a rather tepid greeting. The prices seemed high for such a place, similar to those at other high-end bakeries like Papa Haydn, but without their wonderful selection. I don't know how this place stays in business. I will not be returning.

i'm sitting here right now and had to write a review - this place is so adorable and useful, and i'm not sure that many folks know about it. it's right by my house, which is great. best little cafe in raleigh hills, for sure. they're mostly a typical cafe - lots of coffee and tea drinks, sandwiches, and desserts. lots of tables and chairs to sit or do computer work. it's extra special because of it's location (nothing else like it around), it's sweet and welcoming decor, and it's amazing desserts. so, so yummy.

    (5)
  • Katie W.

I have tried several things at emilies and im really sad. They have great reviews so its confusing. Everything I have had was gross (burnt coffee) or not worth the money ( $8 for a blt with two pieces of thin bacon. Really?) The employees and owner are nice, but the food and coffee make it not worth going there.

    (2)
  • Kris M.

Lovely little cafe. I had an almond croissant that was perfectly flaky, with a great almond filling that wasn't overly sweet or cloying. My daughter had the berry crostata, which was also very good. Lots of small tables for chats, and larger tables and a couch as well. Little toddler table with paper and crayons was very sweet. As we left, the staff gave us a bag of chocolate chip cookies which were a little too brown for them to use in their catering. So nice!
