Omg. Let me tell you, I just moved back from California and I thought I'd never have tacos as I had there. El Guero proved me wrong. They also have great burritos! I've had there breakfast burrito before work and grabbed their carnitas burrito for lunch! Extremely tasty!

Well, the California Burrito was an epic fail. Rarely do I not finish a meal, but tossed 1/4 of it. Guess it's hit and miss (see other review.)

Do you have $6 and the desire for a giant tasty breakfast burrito? Well then this is the place for you. Okay so the burrito is actually $5 but you should give at least a buck for a tip for this monster. Here is the lowdown. The sign says open 7 days a week at 9am. That is somewhat true, he usually arrives between 9 -10am. There are all kinda of options for various Mexican cuisine, but the breakfast burrito seems to be the go to build your own option for most people. If you want it all (mushrooms, potatoes, tomatoes, spinach, peppers, meat, cheese, sour cream, the list keeps going) you can really build a monster and it will still cost $5.

This cart is located at the ROSE CITY FOOD PARK off NE SANDY. FYI, check it out. Great prices, good cooks, awesome Mexican food.

I'm so happy to finally have really good authentic Mexican food within walking distance of my house! What does that matter to you? It doesn't. What probably does matter to you are are the big 3 - quality, value, and service and El Guero has them all. The food is exceptional and the portions are generous. The price is about as good as you'll find anywhere. The service has always been friendly and fast. I highly recommend giving them a try if you like authentic Mexican food.

I'm a bit confused as to whether this cart is now on SE Powell, or still on NE Sandy, as it was when I checked them out, late last year. Value, value, value is the name of the game w/lovely, fledgling little businesses like El Guero. I found the owner and his wife to be highly personable and they seemed like they really enjoyed what they were doing, and there was no question whatsoever they knew exactly what they were doing in the kitchen! Ay madre--- the machaca is an event worth the trip all by itself, packed w/juicy, shredded beef, egg and onion (heavy onions is how I prefer it, w/the spiciest most pepper-laden sauce they carry!). I also enjoyed greatly their quesadillas and steak fajita tacos. There's so much good Tex-Mex out there that it is, to my mind and tummy, very hard for anybody to separate from the pack and earn that elusive 5th star, but these folks come awfully close, and are indeed worth a try. Check 'em out, then let the rest of us know: Powell, or Sandy, or .......? Donde este este coche?

This place is awesome! The breakfast burrito is one of the best I've ever had! The price is very reasonable, the service is great and the food comes fast. It would be great if they used Square but they don't so make sure you've got cash.

(NOTE: At the time of this review, El Guero is at the Rose City Food Park, near NE 52nd and Sandy Blvd) Many people who know me are aware that burritos are one of my many addictions. And because I'm a big breakfast fan, breakfast burritos are probably the first thing I seek out at these Mexican carts. Oh, El Guero also has tacos, quesadillas, and the non-breakfast burritos (with the usual beans, rice, choice of meat, etc.), but it's like my internal target locks in on breakfast items first. It certainly helps if there's bacon. And that's just what we have here. A thick $5 breakfast burrito. A warmed giant flour tortilla gets stuffed with cooked potatoes, bacon, cheese, and eggs. A killer sweet deal, honestly. The potatoes are soft and fluffy. The smoky diced bacon is an automatic win. The proper amount of cheese and eggs for my liking. I can get all the flavors in one bite -- but if I get more bacon, that's perfectly OK. Everything is seasoned properly. Most people should be filled just from this breakfast burrito alone. The burrito came with two sauces, green and red. Perfect for the panda to just drink straight. Other breakfast items include breakfast tacos, chorizo tacos, and omelets. There's even a Chorizo Con Papas Burrito ($4.75) with potatoes, chorizo, scrambled eggs, onions, beans, cheese, and sour cream inside a flour tortilla. The regular cheese quesadilla here ($3.75) also comes with beans, rice, and guacamole. For an extra dollar, try the Special Quesadilla with melted cheese, bell peppers, onions, chicken, and guacamole. Fajita plates are $6. Choice of chicken, carne asada, or a "trio" (asada, chicken, and shrimp). On the regular burrito options, my eyes darted to the El Guero Burrito ($5) and the Chile Relleno Burrito ($4.75). The El Guero option is pretty much a Chile Relleno burrito with steak added. For me, the breakfast burrito was a huge hit, and I hope to return and try some more items! They advertise themselves as being open 7 days a week, at least for now. They may open at 9 am.

My fiancé and I live near by and we are here a minimum of three times a week. The tacos are so delicious and cheap! Nothing fancy, just yummy authentic Mexican. For the price, convenience and friendliness of the staff this place can't be beat.

I went to Rose City Food Park mainly to try PDX671 (which I loved) & ended up ordering the El Guero burrito to take to go because the place I was staying at didn't have great food selections nearby unless you're into fast food. This burrito was awesome! I just ordered something quick that I could eat several hrs later for dinner & just picked this burro off the top of the menu. It's a burrito with chile relleno, steak, cheese, beans, rice & salsa & I'm sure something else. What made this burro great was that they chopped up the steak so it was similar to ground beef. I hate it when they put chunks of steak in burritos at like every LA joint because it always necessitates flossing afterwards (not to mention a tired jaw from chewing tough cuts). Anyways, I'm giving them 5 stars because 1) I came back a 2nd time & ordered the same thing & it was just as fantastic even though it was made by someone different (consistency) 2) it was $5.50 for a really good size burrito. I've had to spread each burro over 2 meals. I recommend it!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
